#zeno's art#i'm not sure if i should tag the show itself as i'm not a fan but i guess its “fan”art so i will#hazbin hotel#charlie hazbin hotel#vivziepop#i was bored and wanted to draw something#my main goal here was to create a design that looked distinct and could (potentially) be moderately easy to animate#of course based on charlie's character i added as many angel images as possible through the hair and bowtie#(i know white on white is a character design sin but i wanted to show the angel wing detail ;w;)#also to express the personality and juxtaposition of a sweet devil her horns are supposed to curve into a heart shape#of course the garterbelts are upside-down/st peters crosses because of her satanic themes#i also tried to go harder into the goat theme but its still subtle i think#i actually think the goat theme is really interesting because of the story of the sheep and the goats in the bible#but i cant remember if it was actually something intended in her original design#i'm not going to draw anyone else so dont even anticipate that#this was basically a cooldown? ok i think i'm rambling now#goodbye#ok edit to say it clearly: i am not a fan of vivziepop or her work. i just wanted to redesign charlie as a cooldown/exercise for fun#because i used to be a fan of the character before i wised up about what vivzie had and has done#and before i matured and noticed the cracks and fundamental flaws in her works#so yea i dont support her at all and this redesign is critical i guess#also the reason why the tag “vivziepop” is there in the first place is so that anyone who has that tag silenced can scroll past#without seeing anything related to her work. in case that clears anything up#its the same reason why i tag “long post” and “food” and the like

prosekai au where everything is absolutely the same except niigo, instead of being a music circle, is a fanfiction writing-ish group. kanade is a writer, mafuyu is her beta reader, ena makes fancomics based on kanade's fanworks and mizuki makes trailers for upcoming fics. and basically that's it. niigo lore but everything revolves around them being wattpad ao3 users

I feel so bad for ATSV animators imagine you animate an entire Gwiles scene for the trailer and few weeks later they tell you to add more details and you think you can just animate them on the already existing scene but no they tell you that you have to animate the whole scene all over again cuz they didn't flirt enough in it 😅

thinking about Frieren and Dungeon Meshi today and just remembered seeing a post/comment or two saying that people have no reason to compare the two stories since they have nothing in common except being non-isekai fantasy. different tones, different pacing, different themes, etc.
i don't know if whoever said that were dunmesh manga readers or not, but i kinda assume they were making judgments based purely on however much of the anime was released at the time, because i think about how similar these stories are a LOT, actually.
[spoilers for the dungeon meshi manga below, and a little bit of frieren manga]
i think that's a pretty fair assessment to make based JUST on the "prologue"/setup arc leading up to the red dragon. while some of the main themes are very in-your-face, others are still being woven into the characters and established much more subtly, and we don't get the full weight and payoff for that early work until later into the story.
Frieren establishes its identity within the first episodes and never drastically deviates from that first impression. on the other hand, dunmesh takes its time to build its foundation...but instead of using it as groundwork to build a house above, it then leads you into the depths of the dungeon below.
the stuff about conflicts between long-lived and short-lived races seem like just jokes/banter and a touch of political worldbuilding, in the beginning, but that tension is absolutely central to both Marcille and Kabru's arcs. both Frieren and dunmesh are about elves facing their (near) immortality in contrast with the brief mortality of their companions.
I think about the ways Frieren, with a thousand years of life behind her, carries the memories of those she's outlived along with her and all the ways she emulates them to preserve their lives and values. I think about the way Marcille, with a thousand years of life ahead of her, clings so tightly to the people she holds dear and fears the future she sees beyond their deaths.
I think about the way Serie talks about training Flamme on a whim, casually dismissive of short human lifespans. I think of the way Kabru resents the way elves treat short-lived species like children and fights so desperately for their agency and right to speak on the same level as the rest, fully informed of the dangers that threaten them all instead of being left in the dark.
beyond that, too--you can really feel that these series come from a place of love for the genres that inspired them. dunmeshi's speculative biology for the monsters and the ecosystem they're a part of, the exploration of how and why different races get different "stat" bonuses (dwarven constitution, half-foot perception, tall-man versatility, elven/gnomish magical affinity), the side comic about "Grease" as a starter spell--all obviously come from deep knowledge and affection for D&D and/or similar rpgs.
meanwhile, Himmel gives thoughtful weight to doing "side quests" for paltry rewards--they help because they're heroes, but they accept scraps and useless items for rewards because no one wants to feel pitied or indebted to anyone. he says they "went the wrong way" if they find the stairs to the next floor in a dungeon, because the "right" way is to explore every nook and cranny first before you progress. it would be very easy to mock how annoying fetch quests are, or make the dungeon bit a pure joke--but this is a story that relishes the process and the journey of it all, down to the smallest detail and silliest quest.
flashbacks to Falin being achingly kind and gentle, and also strange and awkward. flashbacks to Himmel being blindingly heroic and noble, and also vain and goofy.
these are both stories about the weight of death and loss and the things we'll do to see our loved ones one last time, when we are destined and doomed to outlive them. they're about the joy of the journey even when it's painful, thriving on silliness even when things are "serious," and loving the people in your life knowing you will lose them, and how you carry them with you when they're gone. dunmeshi is heavier on the comedy side of things, but both have their fair share of emotional gutpunches, and their themes and values mirror each other.
all this to say, these stories are holding hands.

IT TOOK ME UNTIL TODAY TO REALIZE--
All the other characters directly face each other when they're bantering except Kenshi, who turns his head towards the side so his ear is closer to his opponent's voice.
When you compare, he's the only one who does this.

Pixel art has been really fun to work with. It's not too dissimilar to my usual in that of course it helps to have some kind of background in drawing, but it's also different enough that it can be a bit of a challenge to get things looking how I want them. I'm working up to making a galaxy type scene, but I still need some practice I think. But it's good to learn new skills lol.

Atsushi's back in the game!!! ۶( ˆ o ˆ )
#And Kouyou!!!!#Also. I can say Steinbeck is kinda 👀👀👀#King of the specific category of “I forget I like him until he's on screen”#I'm seriously unlocking memories with this rewatch. Like I haven't thought about it in two years–#but I just know when I was watching the anime for the first time I was being like#“Of COURSE the villains need to spend several minutes each episode explaining in detail how their own superpowers work so that the–#protagonists can get a perfect idea of how to best counter them. Why are villains made so freaking stupid in this show” aljhvwslchvqliyqwb#But. Eh. I guess that's just bsd to you.#Alsoooooo random thought of the day: I don't really favour how Tanizaki's ability was adapted in the anime.#I very well understand they were going for this green Matrix-like illusion effect‚ but every time someone says “... Snow?”#I'm like please explain where do you live that has snow glowing green.#Aamsjgvfaskjhfv sorry this is me being very. Cranky and nitpicky and having terrible audience etiquette in refusing to–#engage in suspension of disbelief. It just bugs me akvakcvqkyb I just feel like... Green is such a non-snow color–#that quite of completely disrupts the Light Snow / Sasame Yuki aesthetic. I would have liked it much better light blue or simply white.#What else. The way the Guild just goes on at stereotypes still troubles me a lot. The “usamericans can't be touched by laws–#because they use money to corrupt anyone” “foreign criminal organization come in our country to corrupt our pure and untouched soil”#Idk. Maybe all of it is true. Can it still be deemed a stereotype when it's objectively something that's happened before–#and will probably keep happening?#I suppose I'm just not a fan of the constant hostility against any foreigner. Idk.#This situation besides is extremely ironical. If you meet me irl it probably won't take long to see me being very outspoken about–#how much I despise usa cultural colonization of all other countries. It's something that really bothers me‚ how rooted and pervasive–#their influence is. So in a lot of ways I can relate to the author's sentiment#I just feel that. If you start treating them as stereotypes and ignore the complexity of a country and the wide spectrum of causes–#that contribute to its attitude in international relations. You end up practicing precisely what you're trying to criticize.#Okay this is the last time I'm getting into the politics of the Guild arc lol#random rambles#This time I took watching the episode slow I feel a little late

Hello love! May i ask for a spicy one but this time Gil teases Thena and gets it back at her. 🩷
Thena glares at Gil as he picks up the phone.
"What?" he growls into it. "Right...yes."
Thena goes so far as to cross her arms at him, raising her brows. Is this really the time?
He chuckles, resuming what he was doing while still on the call. "No, I can talk."
Thena slaps her hand over her mouth as he resumes thrusting, literally completely inside of her as he takes the business call. This is revenge for earlier that morning.
"Right," he grunts, only sounding slightly out of breath as he continues to move his hips against hers, their skin slapping together as he fucks her on top of his desk. He looks down at her, "I'm not available right this second."
Thena glares at him more, but then he hits that sweet spot and she has to close her eyes because fuck! She tries to sit up and support herself with her elbows but that takes too much energy.
Gil moves his hands and pounds into her even harder, "hang on."
She puts both hands over her mouth as she lets out a loud mix of both a moan and a curse. Fuck this man. He moves with that same intensity until he knows damn well that she's getting close to coming. Then, in a flash, he's out of her.
"What was that?" he asks into the phone, completely absurdly with his suit jacket still on and his cock out and rock hard. "Yes, I see."
Thena slams her fists on his desk at the absence of him. She will get him for this. She sits up again, panting for breath and flushed scarlet rouge. "Get back here."
This man - this complete bastard - holds up a finger to shush her with a wink and the cockiest smirk she has ever seen. He is having far too much fun with this.
"Uh-huh, yes," he continues on in his conversation as he comes closer again. "Right."
Thena moans loudly as he kisses her, hoping that it will urge him to put the fucking phone down and resume fucking his impatient partner.
But Gil holds the phone away from them, dampening the sound of her pleasure for those who aren't privy. When he pulls away from her he brings the phone back, "walk me through that part again?"
Thena bares her teeth at him, ready to take matters into her own hands and tell whomever is on the other end of that call that they are keeping her from a very important orgasm.
Gil half turns away, only for his fingers to immediately resume what work he had been doing before. "Right."
Thena moans again, leaning back on his desk with her breasts settling in her new position. This is the kind of thing she used to dream about. Back when she hadn't been working for him for long, and then she would avoid him so her boss wouldn't somehow find out she was having positively filthy sex dreams about him.
"I think that's reasonable," he continues to speak so normally as he hooks his fingers inside of her, stroking that spot with ease. "It's a perfectly acceptable proposal."
"Fuck," she whimpers as, once again, he drags her all the way to the edge before stopping. She could scream, "Gil!"
"Sweetheart," he puts the phone to his shoulder and croons at her, "not much longer--promise."
Fuck this man.
Thena bites her lip. She's so close. She's been close since the moment he called her into his office and proceeded to kiss her until she couldn't think. When he first bent her over his desk and then helped her lie back on it, tits out, skirt hauled up to her waist.
"Hm," Gil pulls his hand back and licks his fingers one by one, "hmmmm."
Thena tries to kick at him, but he catches her ankle and hooks it into the crook of his elbow. He's enjoying the view; she flushes scarlet.
"Let me see," he chuckles into the phone again before turning to face her. He braces himself on the table again. "I'll get back to you."
Thena lets out a shriek as he drops the phone receiver down the same moment he pushes into her again. "Fuck!"
"When did you become so impatient, Naekkeo?"
"Fuck you," she snarls, and sounds just like him when she does. But she's so wound up, and she wants to come so bad. "You owe me."
"On the contrary, Yeobo," he pulls her hips so he can angle himself better. "This is payback for this morning. Now, we're even."
Oh, they would not be even for a long time for this.
"Fuck, Gil, please," she whimpers, positively feverish with need for him. She reaches for his hand, and not only does he hold it, he also uses it for leverage to fuck her even harder. "I wanna come!"
He all but roars as he pounds into her, their hips meeting in a hard and messy conjoining of bodies writhing together. "Fuck!"
Thena comes first, finally free after a very drawn out lead up to her crescendo. Warmth engulfs her completely and she finally lets go of everything that had been coiling within her. She flops back down to the leather deskmat beneath her, hair everywhere, completely exposed. She feels amazing.
Fuck--this man.
Gil comes barely seconds after, hunching over her and his hips giving a last few jerks as he lets his own ecstasy overtake him. He leans over her until he's close enough to kiss her, both of them kissing and gasping for air on different rhythms.
Thena moans as he slips out of her. His office is going to be a mess (and reek of sex for hours). She finally pries her eyes open just to stare at his ceiling. "Fuck."
"Yeah," he agrees, laughing faintly.
She huffs, slapping his shoulder. "It's not funny."
"It's a little funny."
"Gil!"
"Sorry baby," he chuckles, kissing her temple and then down her cheek and neck. "Couldn't resist--and hey, now you know what you put me through this morning."
Thena grumbles as he pulls her up (knowing her core doesn't have the strength in it for her to do it herself at the moment). She nuzzles into his shoulder, "I think you did far worse."
"I think we're even," he refutes, letting her lean on him as he first pulls her bra back on for her, then buttons up her cardigan again.
She grumbles, "I'm sweaty."
He fluffs her hair out for her and kisses her other cheek, "you're glowing and beautiful and perfect."
Fuck, this man; Thena rolls her eyes, pushing at his chest to try and sit up straight on her own. She wobbles a bit, but she does it. "The work day is not exactly over."
"Yeah, but at least I don't have any more meetings," he grins as he fixes his own appearance as well. "Or conference calls."
Thena pouts at him as she straightens herself out a little more, including getting her stockings hooked to her garter belt again. "I should hope not."
Gil helps her off his desk, her knees wobbling faintly as her heels hit the floor. He holds her gently, letting her stand up out of his grasp when she's ready. "Hey."
Thena smiles into his soft and sweet kiss, much more her househusband than her boss. She pats his chest, "you're not out of trouble yet."
"Save it for home, vixen," he both teases and agrees, pulling the hand up from his chest and to his lips. "And ask cleaning to do an extra thorough detailing in here tonight?"
She doesn't look forward to that. It's ridiculous, but she feels like cleaning has some way of knowing what they've been up to in here.
"And Thena?"
"Hm?" she looks over her shoulder a step and a half away from where they were just fucking like animals. She's combing her fingers through her hair and he's collecting his stray papers.
Gil crosses the distance to kiss her again with his sweet, househusband smile, "I love you."
She gives him another little kiss--a truly domestic exchange of affection after a very wild 'meeting' in the middle of the day. "I love you, too."

A Synthesis of Adaptations - Lucas Lee & Roxie Richter
So of the seven evil exists (AN: I will cover the twins in a footnote) two of them are pretty vastly different between the book and the movie. This leads to a problem to solve in the anime, but the anime came up with a pretty clever conclusion.
(This cut text isn't for spoilers, it's just- I write essays, that's what I do. I mean there will be spoilers for the Books and The Film, but I'm talking mostly about Ramona's backstory not... the plot of the anime.)
See, Matthew is the closest any of the exes gets to a 1:1 adaptation. Being first his fight is short, the plot elements around it are easy, and the narrative purpose didn't need changing. So there wasn't any massive revision. The book's call:response format of the song number became Matthew and his Hipsters singing, but that's mostly it.
Todd is the same character, but the movie can't really go in depth on Scott and Envy so it didn't need four different fights (five if we count Envy vs. Ramona). His character is the same even if a lot of his purpose is changed. Gideon is a similar shrunk space issue while staying the same character between versions.
The Books
Lucas Lee, in the books, is a decent guy who is kind of a sell out. He's open and honest (where Ramona lied outright) and generally just- not a very interesting character, there isn't anything there. That Lucas Lee wouldn't grab any attention in a fight scene. Roxie is also painted as 'safe' with how Ramona just lets her stay in her house, and generally isn't painted as a serious concern for Ramona. Ramona isn't worried she hurt Roxie, or that Roxie wants to hurt her. The animosity is Roxie is sure Scott is cheating on Ramona. Another nonthreatening Ex (minus her absolute desire to murder Scott. She has at least that over Lucas).
The Film
Lucas Lee is a bombastic skater boi who is equal parts asshole and sincere, he doesn't seem capable of dishonesty but at the same time you kinda think he needs a punch in the face. He's loud and memorable but there still isn't anything there. Roxie is sassy and pissed, just generally mad at everyone but especially Ramona. She lashes out and is angry and there is no way this Roxie could stay at this Ramona's house. Not if Ramona has any self-preservation skills.
The Synthesis
So how do these polar opposite versions work together? Causation. Taking the books characterization, and having Ramona's haphazard romantic style turn them into the film version. Allowing Chris Evans and Mae Whitman to play fully into skater boi douchebag and feral lesbian goblin respectively. Lucas Lee was a sweet kind dopey himbo until Ramona broke his heart, and on that day he decided his best course was to be a star. Be memorable. Be unignorable. And definitely be better than Todd Ingram. So that gravitas voice Evans does is a part of the trauma Ramona inflicted. Roxie was a sweet, caring, 'there for her' friend/roommate/lover. She was the one who cared about Ramona, share things with her. We can believe that flashback Roxie just cared about Ramona's best interests and taught her Subspace things. And then Ramona left, and it broke her, and she hates everything. Everyone. Until Ramona fixes it. Creating a feral Lesbian hobgoblin who never wishes to feel like nothing again.
It's a clever trick, isn't it. Taking two characterizations each bland in their own way, but making them interesting by basically going with 'both are right' as the answer. One of the anime's better tricks.
Footnote: The Twins
Even if the Twins weren't a nightmare to cast if you're trying to keep race, age, being twins, and hair color all in mind... Book 5 isn't about them. Like Gideon they would be a nightmare to do accurately, but unlike Gideon adapting their plot isn't easy. Gideon is a self-aggrandizing control freak, making that 'he put a chip on Ramona' from 'using subspace to sneak into her mind and fuck with it' is a change, but thematically in line. Book 5 is about Scott and Ramona's love life becoming messy as Scott realizes he and Kim aren't nearly as okay as he thinks they are. Generally they just kind of don't fit into any reasonable narrative without investing too much time for at best a minimum payoff? Their best payoff would be a cool robot fight. (Which I am always for, but again, lot's of invested time.)
