ANIMANIACS(2020) SEASON 3 EPISODE 8
SPOILERS AHEAD
Alright I’ve seen a LOT of controversy about the beginning of this episode. And I’d like to address it with my own thoughts. I don’t doubt I will get backlash for this, it’s the internet, you get backlash for everything. But I still have a right to an opinion and I’m making the choice to share it so I’m accepting the consequences that come with that decision.
If you haven’t seen this episode yet, I’ll give the gist of what happens.
Specifically the “problem” is the little bit where Yakko and Dot are ragging on their brother. Wakko is so hyperfocused on his game that he is completely oblivious to the world around him.
They make comments on how “the animators could only afford to animate the two BEST siblings”. They dramatically go in about it how they “mourn the loss” of their brother, then immediately move on. They start to plan their own duo plot before Wakko is shaken back into reality. To which they respond with monotone and sarcastic phrases like “oh great Wakko’s back”. As if they weren’t pleased to see him.
I’ve seen people absolutely furious over this. Comparing it to a 90s episode where Wakko was about to be taken by Death and his siblings risked their own lives to fight for him back. Begging on their knees to not have their brother taken away.
Which is a both a wholesome and comical episode to enjoy but I will argue that these two situations are NOT the same. That was the actual DEATH practically knocking on their door. You can’t blame them for getting bent out of shape.
This was Wakko just laser focused on a video game he was enjoying. He’s been shown in the reboot to be more drawn to the different types of technologies and is often seen playing around on them. This type of situation most likely isn’t new to Yakko and Dot.
And I guess I will have to be the one to say it, THIS is the reality of siblings. They aren’t going to be wholesome 100% of the time. This is one of the reasons I really enjoy the reboot, it seems to show that side of having brothers and sisters more so than the 90s show.
Personally, I have 4 siblings. I also take the role as the oldest. And seeing this sketch genuinely made me laugh so hard because it sounded exactly like a situation me and my own siblings would be in. It made them laugh too for the same reason. My little sister went “that’s us!” while giggling about it.
Siblings aren’t always going to be kind to eachother. They will taunt and tease and make claims or argue about who the favorites really are. They’re going to find quirks about eachother odd. There will be some times they’ll act unenthusiastic about you being there. That does NOT mean you don’t care about eachother. Behind everything, the love is still there and it always will be.
I’ll make up dramatics and taunts in regards to my siblings, they’ll shoot them right back at me. There have been times where a few will gang up on another one in their antics. Sometimes you are left out of activities.
But the love never ever goes away. I would do anything for my siblings, I will never stop loving and caring about them. There will be wholesome moments of us playing games, giving hugs and affectionate noogies, or watching cartoons, like Animaniacs, together. But the teasing is always gonna be apart of the dynamic. It’s not bad, it’s normal and we know not to go to far. We apologize when someone is genuinely and seriously hurt.
In my eyes, in my siblings eyes too, Yakko and Dot did nothing wrong. This is almost top tier brother and sister behavior. I know from experiencing it myself.
This segment or reboot as a whole does not take away any other aspect of their previous relationship whatsoever. They are still shown to be extremely kind, protective and loving towards eachother. That part never changed, you just need to accept the good parts with the bad ones. And they’re not necessarily bad parts either.
I cannot stress this enough
It’s
Just
Siblings
And I love how that is portrayed in this series. It really hit close to home and despite all the controversy, I’d say the writers did an excellent job.

a rant about S3 ep8
I am so glad that people are fixing the BULLSHIT that was Animaniacs Season 3 episode 8. Spoilers, obviously.
so I am not the biggest Reboot person ( I have a whole post about that in the works) but what makes me borderline hate it is the treatment of Wakko. I will be only talking about episode 8 here though
it also happens to be my LEAST favorite moment in the reboot. so WHAT THE FUCK were the writers thinking?!
the last time Wakko "died" was in the OG series during a meatball eating contest. when Death arrived to collect them Yakko and Dot wanted to go too, and they literally challenged DEATH to a game of checkers to be able to stay with Wakko. so THEY WERE WILLING TO DIE FOR THEIR BROTHER.
and now theres this pile of dogshit that is trying to be a scene (I don't blame the voice actors or animators, (I only blame the writers)) Wakko is in a state where the outside world is basically gone, Yakko tries to get their attention and then says this(I hate that I have to write this): I guess it’s finally happened. They’ve slashed the budget so much that they can only afford to animate the two-Well, I’ll say it. The two best siblings".....then Dot says: "Tragic"(sarcastically at that). yea Dot, it is Tragic, tragic how the writers didn't bother to research the characters they were writing. AND IT GETS WORSE. Yakko says:“I’ve always thought this would work better as a two-hander, anyway.”....NO IT WOULDN'T. when Wakko comes out of the state their in, Dot says "oh, Wakko's alive. horray" SHE SAYS IT LIKE ITS A BAD THING HER BROTHERS ALIVE.
and then later in the segment. they literally have Wakko being the sweetest thing ever saying: "nobody hurts my sister, not even gold sister"....THAT is how the Warners are supposed to treat eachother. they are siblings, they love eachother, yes they fight but COME ON they don't literally wish their sibling to be DEAD.
welp. that's my honest thoughts on Episode 8.

Ripping them a new one
What. The. HELL?! I can't even begin to describe the depth of my anger and sorrow right now.
The following profanity-laced rant represents only a fraction of my true feelings on this.
If you don't know what I'm referring to, I'm talking about the line to start episode 8, where Yakko and Dot say, in front of him, that Wakko is the worst sibling and they don't need him. Well, I thought it'd only be a line, but it turns out they did it MULTIPLE TIMES!!!
And then the stupid fucking cop out that feels like it's mocking us for giving a shit.
I was spoiled on this line over a month ago because someone talked about the storyboard leaks in the Animaniacs tag. Reading about it almost killed my fandom. Right there, instantly, my love for Animaniacs came this close to dying. It took me weeks before I felt anywhere close to where I was before in regards to loving this show. Why? Because the main and only reason I remain so attached to Animaniacs is the Warner Siblings' love for each other. What's the point in angst if there was never any love to test? What's the point in fluff if that love is hollow and empty, if it never really existed at all? Now, I'm glad I was spoiled and had time to recover. If I saw this bullshit raw, in the show for the first time, there's no telling what it would have done to me. I might have just stopped watching.
I don't care about Yakko's flimsy cop out. This is not what you say to someone you love. This is not something you say about someone you love, even if they didn't happen to be sitting right there. You realize what these words mean? They think they'd be better off without Wakko. THEIR BELOVED BROTHER. It's not so much that they joked about him dying and coming back. I can excuse that as sibling jabs, even if I would still hate it. It's that Yakko said he's always thought that their act would work better as just him and Dot. No, you didn't always think that. You BETTER not have always thought that.
Wakko has suffered emotional abuse before. He's been paraded around as the least popular sibling, as smelly and uncultured, as a gluttonous pig. Through all of that, what did he always have? His siblings, boosting him up, protecting him from the noise. Now the noise is coming from inside his family. That's unacceptable. There was one instance in the original that came close to this. When Yakko tried to sell Wakko in their Jack and the Beanstalk parody, because he gets less fan mail than Dot. That was still miles better than this. For one, it wasn't in their base reality. It was in a parody that would clearly be non-canonical. Second, Yakko didn't go out of his way to verbally abuse his little brother and try to make him feel less valued as a member of the group. It was just a hard necessity, as callous as it might have been.
Yakko would never say something like this. The thought would never even come close to crossing his mind. Dot would never agree to a statement like that. If she heard Yakko say it, she'd wonder what alien came in and replaced her older brother. Least of all would they say it right in front of Wakko, as if they're deliberately trying to hurt him.
It baffles me. It truly baffles me. Was this the writer's first day on the job? How do you go three fucking seasons and not know the first thing about the characters you're writing? The way Yakko and Dot are portrayed here is ten times more out of character than they've ever been written in any fanfic ever posted. Worse, this had to go through producers, storyboarders, animators, the showrunner, and they all looked at this and thought it was okay. I can't truly blame the voice actors, because they're under contract and have to do their jobs, but they should have known their characters well enough to know they would never say these lines. That they shouldn't say these lines.
I truly can't wrap my head around it. Where does this come from? What could possess anyone to think this is a good idea, even an acceptable idea, for even a single millisecond? Does it come from the Family Guy writing culture, where absolutely nothing is sincere, even relationships between friends and family? Do they just not know how to write sarcastic characters that also truly love their closest family members?
They had the audacity to claim they were listening to fan feedback for this season. Tell me, look at all the most popular fan compilations on YouTube about the reboot. Are they filled with moments of the siblings being cold and callous to each other, or are they filled with the opposite? How blind do you have to be to misunderstand the soul of your show and your fanbase so fucking badly? It almost feels malicious. Like someone on the writing staff had a bad experience with their own siblings and made it their personal mission to destroy and pervert the bond between the closest set of siblings on TV. I thought they were starting to get it right with season 2. Season 3, they had to look at what all the fans were saying and realize that they could go even further, right? Give us all the sibling fluff we could ever need? Instead they went the opposite direction. It's becoming clear to me that "listening to fan feedback" really meant listening to "Pinky and the Brain fan feedback." I don't mean to drive a wedge between certain parts of the fandom, but that's just how it seems to be. It's absolutely not the fault of any of the fans who talked about the show.
People will tell me to just forget about it, to consider it non-canon or as something the Warners had to do as part of the script. I literally cannot. Have you ever wondered why all my headcanons are so close to canon? I have freaking OCD. I need everything to be in order, I need there to be a way to make sense of everything together. I can't just ignore certain parts of the show and pretend like they never happened.
I can't even make angst out of this. I can't explain it away in a fanfic or with theorizing. This is the only thing in Animaniacs I can say that about. That's how unforgivably bad it is. It just goes so completely against everything about the characters of the Warners and the spirit of the show that it might as well be foreign to it.
This will affect me for a long time. Some might look at this rant and think I care too much. Yes, I care too fucking much. Look at my blog, for God's sake. Being aware of that doesn't change how I feel. Normally, I try to be courteous. I try to give the reboot the benefit of the doubt, because I truly do value many of the things it's added to Animaniacs. In this case, I don't care. Fuck whoever wrote these lines. Fuck every single person who saw them along the way and gave them their approval. Congratulations on a job well done. This hurts my heart and it will continue to do so for years to come, if not my entire life. I am devastated.

I feel like I can do a compilation post of Wakko getting hurt from season 3 alone.
I went from thinking it’s gonna be a Wakko season (season 1 was about Dot and season 2 was about Yakko and Wakko was center of poster for season 3) to watching him suffer. Like what?
Does someone hate Wakko? Or finds sibling bashing funny? Cause it doesn’t work for them. They never did this to each other. They tease each other not bully. They said they looked at fan feedback. Brinky I can see but like did they see Wakko angst? Cause this definitely isn’t angst. It’s not even funny.
It’s too late in the day right now but I was researching for my reviews and realized this. I was gonna do wholesome sibling moments like I normally do but this brings me down. Ugh.

What are some Animaniacs episodes from both the original and the reboot you would recommend to newcomers (like me)?
Thank you for your question!
Well, there’s the first episodes of each series, of course (btw although it is the longer show I’d suggest starting with the original before the reboot considering the reboot is really more of a sequel series).
But if you want less obvious options, I would suggest;
For 1993:
The Warners’ 65th Anniversary Special (Episode 65)
Yakko's World/Cookies for Einstein/Win Big (Episode 2)
HMS Yakko; Slappy Goes Walnuts; Yakko's Universe (Episode 3)
Taming of the Screwy (Episode 5)
Piano Rag / When Rita Met Run (Episode 7)
King Yakko (Episode 10)
Bonus segments: I’m Cute, Potty Emergency, Bumbie’s Mom, Bubba Bo Bob Brain, Smitten with Kittens
The idea of the list is that I’m recommending episodes that I think are good introductions to Animaniacs in general, not just my favourites. These episodes/segments either cover the Warners’ origin, serve as good introductions to what I believe are the best segments of the show besides the Warners, provide a good idea of what Animaniacs’ music is like, or is a good showcase of one/all of the Warners’ personalities and what they do.
For 2020:
Gold Meddlers/Pinko and the Brain/Math-Terpiece Theater: Apples (Episode 3)
Warner She Wrote; France France Revolution; Gift Rapper (Episode 7)
WhoDonut; Mousechurian Candidate; Starbox and Cindy (Episode 8)
Here Comes Treble; That's Not the Issue; Future Brain; The Incredible Gnome in People's Mouths (Episode 9)
Phantomaniacs; Fear and Laughter in Burbank; Bride of Pinky; Things That Go Bump in the Night (Episode 11)
Rome Sweet Rome/Backwards Pinky/Wakko's Short Shorts: Now Loading (Episode 14)
Bonus segments: Suffragette City, Ralph Cam, Roadent Trip, The Cutening, A Zit!, Yakko’s Big Idea
Again, the idea is that I think these episodes/segments are a good introduction to show’s characters and characterisations, songs, tone, etc. So nothing too continuity dependent, and nothing too far into the run (even though I really like a lot of season 3).
If you’d rather have a list of my favourite episodes and segments rather than the ones I think are good introductions, I made a post about them here.
If you do check these out, I hope you like what you see!

Apparently, the 3rd and final season of The Hardy Boys was released on Hulu a year ago? How did I miss that?
Anyway, I watched 2 of the 8 episodes.
Oh also, I started season 2 of the new Animaniacs. Which I knew was out, but season 3 is also available?
I guess I've just not been on Hulu much in the past year. Hmm.

Episode Idea Confirmed?!?!?!
Okay y’all, I’m pumped! You remember that one Animaniacs 30-Day Challenge I created? You remember when I shared a funny episode plot idea for an episode about the Warner siblings hacking into a computer/video game to bug Let’s Players like Markiplier or Jacksepticeye? You remember?! Here’s a link to that initial post.
ANYWAY, I was looking at the plots of each of the new episodes of season 3 coming out tonight. Well, look at episode 8………
Look at it……
Look at it……
Could it be that the idea I had ages ago could be a reality?!? Guess I’ll find out tonight! 😂😂

Man, this year is so much different from the previous...
TIER - Actually Dislike
13 - Velma
I gave it a one shot and have not seen an episode since. But I have been following it via second hand sources and I do not like the direction it is going. Especially how crammed in the Scooby Doo references get. Basically, this is the bottom of the barrel of things I’ve seen this year.
TIER - Still only saw one episode
12 - Clone High
Eh, the Series didn’t really catch on with me. So I had no intention of seeing the rest of the original nor the continuation. Eh, just not for everyone.
11 - Shaggy and Scooby Get a Clue
With the Scooby/Courage episode, I really should have watched more of this series since it helped with that match. Sadly, I never got the drive to look at the rest like the others in the top tier.
10 - Kiff
I did enjoy what I saw. I enjoyed the clips I’ve seen of her and in Chibiverse. Sadly, never really saw a full episode again. Maybe one day in 2024.
TIER - Saw more than one episode
9 - Smurfs
You know how I said I was interested in seeing if Grouchy had a love interest. Well I saw the episode where that scene is from and it's basically your “we want to make a guy who does not smile smile and he totally did that one time but won’t again”. Not enough to put it below the Saw One Tier but DISAPPOINTED!!!
8 - Wacky Racers
Like the one above, I technically saw more than one episode. Granted, it was part of the One Shot review but it is still a technicality. Despite that, and seeing random clips and enjoying it, just never got around to see the rest.
7 - Fionna and Cake
Again, technically I saw more than one episode. But never got to see more of it outside clips. So I know what happens and I know Gary and Marshall are a thing and I’m so happy for them, but never got around to watching the rest.
6 - Hello Kitty Super Cute Adventures
The sad part is this was on the way to being in the Saw them all tier. The problem is new episodes came out and they were two partners. Them also coming out with Kuromi Solo Animations made it hard to follow the rest. Kind of sad when you think about it.
TIER - Saw them all at the time!
5 - Tiny Toons Looniversity
I enjoyed the reboot and saw all the episodes on the first day. It was definitely a fun experience and I do hope it gets the same treatment or better than the Animaniacs Reboot got. Looking forward to seeing my favorite Rabbit Twins in more action.
4 - Twisted Metal
Loved the game lore and I enjoyed what the TV Show producers did to make it their own thing. It seems to touch upon every aspect of the series including the terrible ones people don’t like and made them great. Rest in Peace Granny Dread.
3 - Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
Originally it was not supposed to be here. I thought “there’s nothing I’m going to watch this year that would trump this.” Then a show came out that I also thought would have no competition. So I quickly added it. Then another show proved there was. So sadly Moon Girl gets third place. But still, I highly recommend it.
2 - Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead
All this because of a song. While it took me a while to watch the rest, I did and thankfully I did before the next episode comes out in December. I doubt the series will continue after that, but still, it's definitely one I am so glad I gave it a shot.
1 - My Adventures with Superman
I did not want this to be in the only saw one episode tier. This needed to be in the Seen All Tier. So I did and I am so glad I have. This is the Superman we need and I look forward to seeing what the next season brings. As long as Warner Brothers keeps its ship together.

1 channel down, 1 to go
Through the years, Cartoon Network Studios produced original shows for both Cartoon Network & its late night block Adult Swim respectively. Soon when I started working animation in Los Angeles County, California, Cartoon Network Studios will produce original shows for Boomerang sometime early 2025. Since 2015, Warner Bros. Animation produced original shows for Boomerang such as New Looney Tunes & the Wacky Races reboot. After the premiere of the third & final season of the Animaniacs reboot on Hulu 8 months ago, none of the Boomerang original shows were produced by Cartoon Network Studios. That will have to change when I come to the studio at the new & current Second Century building in Burbank, California to produced a Cartoon Network crossover show by mixing characters from the past Cartoon Network original shows that I watched as a kid & designing new characters for it, & the art style I use will be inspired by Genndy Tartakovsky, Craig McCracken, Chris Savino & more. A Cartoon Network crossover show will possibly be not only on Boomerang in the United States, but a Max original (formerly HBO Max) in mid 2025. Also, Cartoon Network Studios will produce shorts based on Dexter’s Laboratory late next year. In addition to the proposed shorts with Dexter & his annoying sister Dee Dee, Mee Mee & Lee Lee will have shorts of their own making it the first Dexter’s Lab spin-off. The shorts I’ll wrote at Cartoon Network Studios will premiere on Cartoon Network, Boomerang & Amazon Prime Video late next year, after the premiere of second season of Tiny Toon Looniversity on Cartoon Network & Max (streaming service). & then, Cartoon Network Studios will produce direct-to-video films which will be released on DVD & Blu-ray between early 2025 & late 2026. Cartoon Network Studios always made television films based on shows since 1999, although Warner Bros. released The Powerpuff Girls Movie in theaters back in 2002. When Michael Ouweleen’s once again in charge of Cartoon Network & Sam Register’s now the Cartoon Network Studios president since 3 years & 2 months ago, I’ll be sure J. G. Quintel won’t be involved in my projects ether. By the way, my future projects will have the current aspect ratio of 16:9 (1.78:1) & 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound (only used for streaming). Before I write scripts & designing new characters at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California, I’ll make student animated short films at the Animation Academy in the same location which will be released during & after the Japanese premieres of new episodes & shows of American TV cartoons that premiered in the United States 2 years ago & before & during the premiere of the second season of Tiny Toon Looniversity on Cartoon Network & Max. After this year, Dexter & Dee Dee will soon be better than Pinky & the Brain. To me, The Powerpuff Girls (1998 TV series) & Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends are the only Cartoon Network original shows on Boomerang in the United States as of now. Some classic Cartoon Network shows like Juniper Lee in its uncropped 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio (1.78:1) should air on Boomerang this fall, as well as My Gym Partner’s a Monkey. Both Cartoon Network & Boomerang are owned by the Cartoon Network Group of Warner Bros. Discovery Networks U.S., a division of Warner Bros. Discovery. By the way, the 22 minute mark for animated shows will be better than the 11 minute mark.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to copy text from a post.
There were fun tag games from @professormcguire and I cannot figure out how to put them in a new post. Anyway…
8 tv shows - unfortunately, I haven’t watched tv shows in years, so I don’t think I can come up with 8.
1 - Game of Thrones - This is the only one I’ve rented a streaming service for.
2 - Good Omens - I bought this one from the Apple TV.
3 - American Gods - I bought this one on Blue-ray. I lent out season 1 to someone who lost it and then claims that I never lent it to them. I never, ever learn about not lending out my stuff. It gets returned less than half the time.
4 - Animaniacs - Yes!! Just Yes!! I have these on dvd. I don’t think they make them on blu ray.
5 - Drunk History - This is hilarious!! I think it’s from Comedy Central. (Watched through the app on my Apple TV.). They get these historians who are experts in their field totally drunk on lots of hard liquor and then have them tell the story of their field. If you like history, I highly recommend.
… Um, I think this is all the tv shows I’ve watched in the last 30 years. I have a Big Ass TV, but it’s only used for video games, occasional movies or dvds, and Buckeye football games.
Oh! Bonus 6! My ex used to play the tv A LOT, and when I was nursing my kids, Friends was on rerun and it would be playing on the tv when I got home from work and had to nurse a child for a while. So, I suppose I’ve seen a fair bit of at least parts of episodes, but can’t even tell you how many Friends are in the show.

Fixing the mistake made in episode 8. I know I said I couldn't. This wasn't written for the angst. I don't take pleasure in the fact that it exists. This is just something I felt I had to do for the sake of my own mental health. It won't fix all the issues I have, but it might make it a little better.
If the lines didn't bother you, don't read this. For everyone else, I hope it helps. Note that it is still very depressing on its own. It's just depressing in a way that doesn't violate the bond between the strongest set of siblings in the world.

Thoughts on Season 3
Yeah, I know, I'm late to the party. I watched this season weekly (except for episode 8, which I watched the same week as episode 1-I wasn't about to wait 8 weeks to see the CG episode) because screw binge culture I feel that’s just how Animaniacs should be watched (although daily works too). This won't be a review of each episode, just a list of random thoughts I had about the season:
—I already thought Titmouse's animation for the show was phenomenal, but it somehow managed to look even better in “Season 3 and WB”! And it’s always great to see more Nora. If Animaniacs does make another comeback I hope they don’t only stick with characters from the original series (plus some inevitable new ones) because nOsTaLGiA. It would suck if we never saw Nora or Julia or anyone from the reboot again.
—It’s nice to see certain catchphrases be brought back, like Wakko’s “Faboo!” and Dot’s “Boys.” Although it’s almost like a monkey’s paw situation, because Yakko doesn’t say “Goodnight Everybody!” at all this season. Not even once. Has that happened thoughout an entire season of Animaniacs...ever? This isn’t a complaint (it doesn’t really matter), but it’s surprising.
--OK, Cindy's officially my third favourite recurring character the reboot introduced. I'm glad her and Starbox got more segments this season, I like them a little more now!
—I like how “Soda-pressed” and “The Island of Dr Warneau” give insight as to what would happen if the Warners were the perfectly behaved, compliant, innocent children the studio always wanted them to be-they'd be miserable, like GiGi and the clones. The Warners may be chaotic and mess about a lot but at least they have a backbone.
--After "Planet Warner" I wonder how many toons in-universe are rejected pitches...it's gotta be ALOT. I liked the reference to "Opportunity Knox" in Talladega Mice (even the usually narcissistic Brain had to admit that plan was poorly thought out), especially since it's usually the Warners who reference their adventures in the original show, whilst Pinky and the Brain almost never reference their past adventures in the original show or their spin off in the reboot. Also, "D.I.Why?" is gonna be stuck in my head for ages, particularly Wakko's verse.
--I REALLY wish "Fantasy" and "Teeniacs" were longer instead of being cold opens. A Warners/Pinky and the Brain crossover and the Warners in high school? I would've watched an entire half hour each of both of those! As they are, they're both still good though.
—There are six Warner siblings now. Sorry I don’t make the rules.
(Seriously though, the clones were so cute! And I commend the segment for having a great moral about cutting out toxic family members.)
--Fun fact, "Global Warnering" was supposed to be in season 2! It's nice to see the Warners go up against another toon/talking animal again, it felt like pretty much all of the "special friends" in the reboot before season 3 were humans. They were mostly humans in the original show too, but some were talking animals. Also my goodness was "Here Comes The Sea!" catchy. Pretty brutal that the Warners basically kill the guy at the end...but let's be honest he deserved it.
--It's nice to know that canonically Brain did feel guilty over what he did to Julia. Ironic that in trying to deal with his feelings of guilt be ends up repeating the same mistake as before-trying to have complete control of Julia, just In a less overt way. I've seen people say that this was an awful thing to do and his way of dealing with it doesn't make sense because it doesn't actually fix anything but...I'm pretty sure that was the point you guys. Brain's an emotionally unintelligent narcissistic control freak, and always has been. In the spin off he once referred to himself crying as his eyes leaking. What Brain does get is math and science-so he did the only thing he knew. He's not in touch with his emotions and is content with sticking with what he knows doing the same things over and over again, which of course leads to him making the same mistakes. Meanwhile, Julia is in touch with her emotions and is willing to change. Julia's his foil, this whole storyline is basically deconstructing Brain as a character. The only thing I don't get is why is he in love with her? I'm glad the feelings clearly aren't reciprocated, but last time he met a mouse that seemingly became as smart as him (Billie) that was a turn off for him. Or maybe he IS at least a little threatened by Julia's intelligence and that's why he programmed her to be a housewife?
--Basically, I do have some issues with the Julia storyline (as funny as she is they could've done something more interesting and nuanced than turning her into a Saturday Morning Cartoon villain, I could do without Brain actually having feelings for her, and I think her trying to take Pinky away from Brain because she genuinely thinks he'd be better off without him would have been more interesting than her basically ignoring Pinky most of the time) but showcasing Brain's flaws isn't one of them. I'm glad the real Julia showed up in episode 7, would've sucked if what's unfortunately probably gonna be her last appearance in anything ever technically didn't even have her appear. I'll admit I don't really see the point of having two Julias now but I'm guessing they would've done something cool with that plotline. Maybe one day they will! Hopefully the idea for season 4 was that Brain would finally attempt to make things right for real.
--I liked episode 8 overall, but yeah that first scene sucked. I'm not gonna debate this with anyone in the comments-I don't like it. Not just the comments about Wakko, the "boomer" joke and the "lol girls don't play video games!" joke in 2023 were pretty lame. But I'm not gonna rant about it, plenty of people have already. That being said, the Warners looked great in CG, and the rest of the episode was actually funny. They even referenced the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Game Boy Animaniacs game and got a studio (Flystudio) who actually worked on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to do the 3D animation!
--Also, did not expect Starbox and Cindy of all things to get some sense of closure, with it seeming like Starbox will eventually warm up to living with Cindy. Yeah there's that cliff-hanger...but the clone will probably end up like the last one lol.
--One of the scientists who conducted the "Learned Helplessness" experiment on Brain appears near the beginning of episode 9. I swear he even has more white hairs now, neat detail. Also, I guess Yakko being lactose-intolerant is now officially a constant thing in canon and not just a random gag, that's cool. "How The Brain Thieved Christmas" was fine, but Brain is basically learning the same thing he learned in the original PatB Christmas special. That dub-step remix of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" was unexpected but awesome, and "We Could Try to Do It, Santa" was great too!
--If "Some of Humanity's Wins" ends up being the last full Animaniacs song we ever get (with the Warners' og voices at least), then that's not a bad song to go out on, I like the optimistic message! And I'm so glad to hear Sherri Stoner as Slappy again, she literally sounds the same as she did decades ago, that's amazing. Slappy being retired makes way too much sense.
--So...about that ending. Apparently the meteor was more of a metaphor wasn't meant to be taken too literally. Even if you ignore what Gabe Swarr said on Twitter about how the Warners survived (plus Everyday Safety likely being an in-universe filmed sketch anyway), Yakko has outright said he's impervious to physical harm in "Yakko Amakko" and Wakko said they're immortal in "WARnerGAMES". So I'm just gonna assume the Warners are fine. And although it does technically count as a downer ending, the comedic timing of the meteor's impact was too good for me to hate it. And hey, unlike the original series there was no implication they'd be locked up in the water tower this time so...yay...?
--Here's my ranking of the episodes (from best to worst):
3, 7, 6, 10, 9, 5, 1, 8, 4, 2
I'll keep this last paragraph brief, this post is getting pretty long. The best moments in season 3 are some of the best of the reboot, period. I'm gonna miss this show, I wouldn't even be into Animaniacs without it, and it deserves to have more episodes.
I like to think maybe some day it will!

When Michael Ouweleen’s once again in charge of Cartoon Network & Sam Register’s now the Cartoon Network Studios president since 3 years & 1 month ago, I’ll be sure J. To me, The Powerpuff Girls (1998 TV series), Codename: Kids Next Door & Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends are the only Cartoon Network original shows on Boomerang in the United States as of now.
