Supporting Animal Welfare Organizations: Grants to Limit Animals Used for Research

In recent years, the global community has increasingly recognized the ethical and moral issues associated with the treatment of animals, especially in research settings. This has spurred the growth of animal welfare organizations and animal rights NGOs that advocate for the humane treatment of animals. Securing grants for animal welfare organizations has become a critical step in promoting these efforts and developing alternatives to the use of animals used for research.
The Role of Animal Welfare Organizations
Animal protection NGOs and welfare groups focus on various aspects of animal advocacy, such as sheltering stray animals, rehabilitating abused creatures, and campaigning Against Animal Cruelty. A significant part of their work involves addressing the ethical concerns of using animals in research laboratories, which often subject them to painful experiments. These organizations emphasize the importance of replacing animal testing with innovative, humane alternatives, such as in vitro testing and computer modeling.
Many groups, such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Humane Society International (HSI), have been at the forefront of pushing for legislative changes to protect animals. However, their work requires substantial funding, making grants for animal welfare organizations and initiatives a vital resource for achieving their goals.
Animals Used for Research: Ethical Concerns
The Animals used for Research has long been a contentious issue. Millions of animals, including mice, rats, rabbits, and primates, are used annually in experiments for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and scientific studies. While some argue that animal testing is essential for medical advancements, animal advocates highlight the cruelty involved and the availability of alternative methods.
Animal Rights Ngo contend that subjecting animals to invasive procedures violates their fundamental right to live free from harm. Many experiments result in pain, suffering, and death, often without yielding results that are directly applicable to human health. As awareness grows, the need for funding to support alternatives becomes critical.
Grants for Animal Welfare: Supporting Change
To combat the unethical treatment of animals used for research, securing grants for animal welfare organizations is essential. These grants help fund initiatives like:
Developing Alternatives to Animal Testing: Grants provide financial support to researchers and organizations working on advanced alternatives, such as 3D tissue models, microfluidic systems, and artificial intelligence-based simulations.
Educational Campaigns: Funding enables animal protection NGOs to educate the public and policymakers about the ethical issues surrounding animal research and advocate for humane legislation.
Shelter and Rehabilitation: Many animals used in research need care after being retired from laboratories. Grants ensure they are placed in sanctuaries where they can live peacefully.
Legal Advocacy: Grants support organizations working to introduce and enforce laws that ban or restrict the use of animals in specific research practices, such as cosmetics testing.
For example, the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS) and the Alternatives Research and Development Foundation (ARDF) offer specific funding to advance alternative research methods.
Animal Funding Organizations and Their Impact
Animal Funding Organizations, such as the Open Philanthropy Project and the Animal Welfare Institute, play a pivotal role in driving change. These entities provide financial resources to Animal Welfare Organizations and individual researchers. By channeling resources into innovative projects, they help reduce dependency on animals in research and encourage the adoption of ethical practices.
Such funding also bolsters the work of smaller, local animal protection NGOs that may not have the visibility or resources of larger organizations. These grassroots groups often focus on immediate, on-the-ground impacts, such as rescuing laboratory animals or advocating for local policy changes.
Funding Challenges and Opportunities
Despite the growing awareness of animal welfare issues, obtaining consistent funding remains a challenge for many organizations. The competition for Grants for animal is fierce, and many groups rely heavily on donations from compassionate individuals.
To address this, some organizations partner with government bodies and private corporations to secure funding. For instance, some cosmetics companies fund alternatives to animal testing as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Additionally, the rise of crowdfunding platforms has created new avenues for funding. Websites like GoFundMe and Ketto allow individuals to contribute directly to specific campaigns, such as building sanctuaries for retired laboratory animals or developing cruelty-free research methods.
Advocating Against Animal Cruelty: A Shared Responsibility
While funding and grants are essential, the fight against animal cruelty in research also requires collective societal action. This includes supporting legislation that bans unnecessary animal testing, encouraging industries to adopt cruelty-free practices, and spreading awareness about the plight of animals in laboratories.
Educational initiatives are especially crucial in shifting public perception. Many people remain unaware of the suffering endured by animals used for research or the viable alternatives that exist. Animal rights NGOs often lead the way in educating the public about these issues, but they need resources to expand their outreach efforts.
Veganism and Animal Welfare
Another significant movement tied to animal welfare is veganism. By promoting a lifestyle free of animal exploitation, veganism indirectly supports the goals of animal welfare organizations. Many animal funding organizations also back vegan advocacy, recognizing its role in reducing the demand for industries that rely on animal testing.
The Future of Animal Welfare and Research
The future looks promising for those advocating for animal rights. Advances in science and technology are making alternative testing methods not only possible but also more reliable than animal models. Governments worldwide are introducing stricter regulations on animal testing, and consumers are increasingly demanding cruelty-free products.
However, continued progress requires sustained financial support. Grants for animal welfare organizations must increase to ensure that they can carry out their work effectively. Collaboration between governments, private sectors, and animal protection NGOs will be crucial in building a future where animals are no longer subjected to cruelty in the name of research.
Conclusion
Supporting animal welfare organizations through grants for animal welfare is vital in the fight against the unethical treatment of animals used for research. These organizations, along with animal rights NGOs, are at the forefront of advocating for alternatives and educating the public about cruelty-free practices.
Through increased funding from animal funding organizations and active public support, we can create a compassionate world where animals are no longer exploited in laboratories. Efforts to replace animal testing with humane, innovative methods are gaining momentum, proving that science and ethics can coexist. By standing Against Animal Cruelty, we pave the way for a future where the rights and dignity of all living beings are respected.

Trump may be about to sign the death sentence of the National Institute of Health, and, by extension, the Office of Lab Animal Welfare.
He gutted research animal protections.
Any vertebrate that isn't a mammal will have no rights.
Neither will mice or rats.
If NIH grants are stopped, researchers can't pay anyone. They can't perform research. They can't pay for veterinary services.
They won't be required to provide veterinary services.
The only medical research that will happen will be self funded by big pharma, and they can torture the animals and skew all the lab results that they want.
Just like Musk did to the primates in his neuralink research.
I don't know what's going to happen to me or anyone else at the university where I work. My job is to make sure the animals are treated humanely and to provide veterinary care. I'm especially scared about what's going to happen to those research animals if veterinary staff gets laid off. The USDA only covers mammals, and it doesn't even cover all of them. Every rat I've ever made a tiny paper gift box full of marshmallows for, every mouse I've ever watched grow up, every rodent I've ever separated from an aggressive dominant brother and then treated their tiny wounds, they have no protections if NIH goes down. Decades of research into humane handling, euthanasia, and animal behavior will be tossed aside and wasted.
Please, do everything you can. Protest. Contact your representatives. Anything you can do. Do it for science, for medicine, for people's lives, for people's jobs, and for the animals.
Edit: thank you to everyone who's spreading this, but please reblog the updated reblog that I have pinned to my profile. The NIH is no longer frozen, but "indirect expenses" limits is just as big a threat to lab animal welfare, scientific integrity, and people's jobs as an NIH freeze.

actually no i need to talk about the green witch arc. ciel and his band of merry fools go to germany and learn that this forest is haunted by WEREWOLVES and in it is a village full of WITCHES with cursed amulets and potions and whatever
and the immediate vibe is "lol what a bunch of bogus" which is really just batshit coming from the kid with a demon butler
and then woah big reveal! it wasn't werewolves or witches it was a covert military operation REPLETE with radar tracking (not a thing until wwii) and electronic displays (most likely crt screens, which again weren't fully developed until the 1930s) and TANKS. for reference the first "tank" was put together by a guy in 1899 who mounted a machine gun to THIS
absolute paragon of engineering. the panzer (the exact model of tank in the arc) was not a thing until wwi.
and. and ciel and ESPECIALLY the Demon Butler in question are like. ohhhh yeah that makes more sense. the amulets were just transmitting our exact locations through technology that won't exist for another three decades. whew glad we sorted that one out. man wouldn't it have been CRAZY if it really was werewolves.
#i love toboso's narrative style#i can picture her thinking like. ok whats gonna trump the cursed village red herring#oh i know! Technology#and like yeah they're A Little surprised by everything#it's really just that it's framed as the more reasonable explanation#as opposed to supernatural entities in the story about supernatural entities#ciel: yeesh i cant believe everyone thought this place was cursed. anyways time to use my magical demonic servant to get out of here#if you can't tell im very excited for this to be animated#black butler#kuroshitsuji#sebastian michaelis#ciel phantomhive#green witch arc#sieglinde sullivan#this is the long awaited sequel to my “black butler is camp” spiel#i also love sebastian's reaction to it#“humans have such interesting ideas!” buddy this shit would be straight up sorcery to an actual victorian#i think the faustian contract you have with the thirteen year old would be an easier concept to grasp#sieglinde was the only one reacting appropriately and bursting into tears#also less important discrepancy but after reviewing the panels the bunker's screens really just look like led displays#which didn't exist until the 1960s but i digress#i flipped through eight chapters and did so much research for this

Dandelion News - March 22-28
Like these weekly compilations? Tip me at $kaybarr1735 or check out my Dandelion Doodles! This month’s doodles, like every third month, will be free to the public, so take a look!
1. Crucial and heartwarming: see world’s first-ever wild jaguar translocation in Argentina
“Miní[, an offspring of rewilded jaguars,] is the first-ever release of a wild-born jaguar that’s been translocated for conservation purposes. […] Miní has joined two previously captive female jaguars [in a park] where a small, all-male wild population had been dwindling.”
2. Illinois Gov. Pritzker stands up for LGBTQ+ community in fiery HRC speech
“The governor particularly spoke out for transgender youth, saying we must not sacrifice the most persecuted for the most popular. [… “]Bullies respond to one thing, and one thing only, a punch in the face.”
3. The UK’s First ‘Stork Village’ Takes Flight
“For the first time in more than six centuries, white storks are calling Britain home again thanks to a dedicated conservation initiative to save the species. […] At the end of 2024, breeding numbers saw egg-straordinary results with 27 nests and 53 baby storks, doubling the previous year’s numbers.”
4. A quiet shift: The grid is being redefined by household consumers who no longer need it full time
“With rising adoption of rooftop solar, batteries, and electric vehicles, households are gradually altering their relationship with the grid. […] This redefined relationship doesn’t signal rejection — it reflects the growing capacity of households to meet part of their own needs.”
5. Europe’s Wolf Population On The Rise

““The recovery of wolves across human-dominated landscapes of Europe has been continuing during the past decade, with their population growing to over 21,500 individuals by 2022—a 58% increase in a decade,” the authors wrote. [… O]n average wolves killed 0.02% of livestock each year.”
6. Hospitals awarded funding for solar power work
“The investment of £8.5m by state-owned Great British Energy will enable rooftop panels and solar car ports to be installed at [several hospitals]. […] "Together, these panels will generate estimated savings of more than £635,000 a year."”
7. Nebraska Boards Sponsor Grain Bin Rescue Equipment, Training for Fire Departments
“[Nebraska Corn and Soybean boards are] donating two grain rescue tubes and two training sessions to fire and rescue departments in Nebraska. [… T]he initiative aims to equip rural fire and rescue teams with the knowledge and tools to respond to grain bin entrapments effectively.“
8. Sugar beet pulp fibers show potential for nutritional supplements and sustainable plastic alternatives

“New technology can separate the fibers in the sugar beet pulp left over after sugar production. Part of the fiber can be used as a nutritional supplement due to its anti-inflammatory properties[… and a]nother part of the fiber, the cellulose, can be made into components to replace, for example, plastic.”
9. Osmotic Power: The Next Wave of Renewable Energy
“Sweetch Energy’s technology could [produce] around 20 or 25 W/m2, a significant leap compared to the 1 W/m2 achieved by previous membrane devices. Moreover, by utilizing a biosourced material readily available within the industry for their membranes, the company anticipates the cost of materials would be reduced to one-tenth of the current price[….]”
10. Renegade Colorado Farmer Pushes Deeper into Unconventional Agriculture
“The grasshoppers stayed in the [pollinator] strips, and that triggered praying mantis to come in and eat. […] An agrivoltaic system […] has reduced moisture consumption by significant levels[….] “Local food nationwide is how to counter the industrial scale food industry.””

Help a college student graduate by answering a survey!!
Hey!! Are you over 18 and in the miraculous fandom? Then this is for you!!
Hi everyone, this is my last semester of uni, and one of my final projects to be able to graduate is to write a scientific paper. I'm writing an article about adult fans of children's animation, specifically Miraculous Ladybug. My goal is to understand what makes adults (like us) want to join fandoms centered around shows aimed primarily at children, and to do that I'd love to hear directly from the source! The survey takes around 10 minutes to answer, it's 100% anonymous and it would help me immensely!
I need at least 30 people to answer, but honestly the more the merrier! I've also made a little thank you gif at the end, so if you see it let me know! If you have any questions feel free to send me an ask, as well!
Please reblog so it can reach more people! Thank you so much!
#what do we love (or hate!! I know people are here bc they dont like the show as much too) abt miraculous that#makes us want to spend so much time thinking and creating things for and about it?#miraculous ladybug#i am once again asking for your support#insert bernie sanders meme here#alskdjasd#no but really if you answer this it would help me so so much#and i'll be so thankful#i will reblog this post a bit frequently so please be patient with me 😭😭#also the point of this is not to shame anyone for watching kid's shows in any shape or form#i just love animation and kids cartoons too#my first intentions with this research were to ask why do we mostly view animation as a kid's genre instead of a technique to tell stories#in the west at least#but it was too broad of a question and I dont have enough time to dedicate myself to it#so i narrowed it down to something i'm familiar with#which is why i went for#so uh anyway#pls reblog#and answer my survey#thank you so much

Oh this is scathing

#German memory culture is so fascinating#Also to some extent french#My mother often claimed that we had Jewish ancestry and that a great-grandmother of mine was Jewish#Turns out she'd based that on ''Women talking a weird language'' coming to visit her grandmother#anyway after a whole round of genealogical research we learned that i actually have an Austria-Hungarian great-great-great#grandfather#that is; my great-grandma was talking her mother's home language with cousins that were from three towns over#and they spoke very bad Serbo-Croatian amongst themselves and often just switched to french#but my mother constructed in her mind this whole thing about us being part Jewish and she used to be fascinated by#Woody Allen Roman Polanski Claude Lanzmann the Marx Brothers Jewish humor etc.....#(My mother also spent six months in Germany as a teen during student exchange. i blame them)#But yeah this idea that since i'm neurotic and i had a big nose i was somehow secretly Jewish was drilled into me#She also thought that since my grandpa is Andalusian he probably had some Sephardic blood#Which. What exactly is supposed to be meant here by blood ??? Völk ? Blut ? one-drop rule ??????????#anyway this brand of philosemitism is becoming more and more repulsive to me#Jews are not an enlightened scholar-priest-stand-up-comedian caste with magical blood. They're an imagined community#Same as every other nation; religion; family; culture. Like everybody else they are as good or bad or interesting as imagination allows#And if we have to do weird philo-ism of an outgroup devoid of content let us do what writers have done for 500 years and#Write about talking animals#I'd rather we all collectively hallucinate the houyhnhnms as the quirky fun minority rather than cast real people in that role#or the pigs Napoleon was part of or whatever

ART MASTERPOST: Rebirth by thisisapaige
In the Woods somewhere there is a creature. A creature that lures people deep in the forest. Sam Winchester, Dean's ill, little brother follows the temptation and it changes his and his brother's life forever. If you want to see what happens with the brothers later and also reading about one of the most interesting entity in the forest, than you should definitely check out Rebirth from @thisisapaige on AO3.
Not just the brothers but I was also lured in by this mysterious creature of the woods. I loved everything about it/him (?) and loved the idea of it being actually the forest. As someone who lives in the northern hemisfere and saw these kinda forests it was fascinating to learn how diverse they could be depending on the exact location. I was looking for plants, animals and fungi and chosen a lot of them to build up Castiel's character. One of the first reason to claim this fic, beside obviously the awesome story, was the opportunity to draw Castiel with flowers and moss. :D On the second art you can see one of my favourite characters of this fic, the little will'o'wisp.

Yk sometimes I forget that not everyone is as autistic about cats as I am cause people will just Say Shit sometimes and genuinely believe it’s true like no, your cat isn’t exhibiting “orange cat behaviors” that’s a kitten they’re all like that, no your cat you bought from a breeder that’s barely felt grass is not an indoor outdoor cat Do Not Let It Run Around Your Fucking House On The First Day You Bring It Home Without Somewhere To Hide Safely, for the love of god don’t pick it up like that what are you doing man
#sry I’m thinking abt that show we watched yesterday people just don’t. do research before getting an animal to live with them#when you get a new cat adopted bought whatever man your supposed to put it somewhere safe not near sharp or heavy objects that can fall over#like a bedroom! so it can get used to the house sounds and smells for a few days. let it have a safe spot#yea cats are mostly independent but you still gotta pay attention to it and give it pets and respect its autonomy#holy shit dude people get cats and just. don’t understand they don’t like things. you should give respect to pets and stuff regardless but#it’s like a code of honor with cats if your gentle and quiet and let it come to you it’ll be more comfortable around you!!!#they’re not cold unfeeling creatures they just need to know you first!!!!!!!!
