Okay so as a sister who has a younger sister with a big age gap I feel qualified to put some tiny headcanons on Marco and Mariposa

Marco tends to spoil Mariposa when he goes out grocery shopping/snack shopping with snacks much to his parents chargin

Because he’s usually watching Mariposa when his parents are busy he ends up watching the shows/movies she likes and gets emotionally invested (A few examples are Sofia the First, The Lion Guard, Elena of Avalon, and Bluey)

Yes he will sing alongside her with the songs

He is never going to out loud admit that he cried during True Colors but Janna knows and blackmails him. Tom makes fun of him at first, then he watches it and is full on sobbing as well.

Mariposa sneaks to use his phone but instead of using it to play games she uses it to take silly photos of herself and others (Karma will strike because he keeps most of them)

She ends up picking up a few of his mannerisms and habits. Like poor conversation skills. (He kinda feels bad about that one)

Their parents definitely track her progress via Marco’s own past and they wouldn’t have minded if he graduated early if this didn’t end up messing up their mile stone map.

All that said Marco does his best to teach her from his own mistakes. Yes she thinks he’s dumb for doing some of that stuff but if talking about it keeps her from doing it he’ll live with it.

Okay, so when she’s still young he knows it’s important for her to learn and to practice walking but she’s just so cute and Coe on who wouldn’t want to hold her?

More than once Angie has had to pry Mariposa off of him.

Raphael doesn’t care. It’s cute AF.

Since Marco’s parents were absent a lot when he was younger (canon based on comics) they’re a lot more attentive with Mariposa and as much as Marco’s happy for his little sister there’s a small drop of bitterness in his stomach knowing he didn’t get that.

As with any good older sibling, the best way to overcome jealousy of the attention is to also give the new sibling lots of attention.

Despite being so young after high school and entering college he makes sure they have time to talk.

She talks to him about her day, what she and her friends did, what he and his friends did, and complaining about school.

Sometimes this is at dinner, sometimes it’s right before bed, sometimes it’s on their devices but they always have a chat.

Despite also being pretty smart, Mariposa tends to struggle getting started on school work and Marco having gone through this is always offering advice and tips.

Mariposa loves riding Nachos and Marco’s ‘safe kid’ reputation comes into play as he convinces their parents that if she’s responsible Nachos is sweet just like any other pet. (And incase of emergencies Mariposa is well equipped to drive her)

My Thoughts on the Star vs Pitch Bible

So, a few months back, the pitch bible for Star vs the Forces of Evil leaked but nobody (including myself) really noticed. It wasn't until the recent major leak of multiple pitches and pilots for both released and unreleased shows that the svtfoe pitch bible was reposted. It was only then that I found out about it and downloaded a copy for myself. I have to say it's pretty... interesting to see what the show could have been

Below are my thoughts/reactions to the things I read

Echo Creek Academy was originally a boarding school? But Star still lives with a host family??? It does get called a private school later in the bible though…

Moon was originally named Moonbeam. Slightly less on the nose

Wand is stored in case by Queen until the princess turns 14 Star had apparently always wanted to go to an Earth school and longed for a normal life. Wonder why they changed it so that the Queen keeps it until then

The Diaz family was originally The Juans (note: Juan is apparently a Spanish given name but I did find census data indicating that it is used as a surname, commonly among Hispanic families)

…yikes…

So St. Olga's darker nature doesn't seem to have been thought up yet.

Proto-Ludo is even more obsessed with the wand than canon-Ludo

So multiversal travel was through finding and entering cracks between worlds instead of dimensional scissors in the earlier drafts. Interesting

So Proto-Rafael and Proto-Angie were tree doctors/world travelers who were particularly obsessed with Mewni and were chosen as Star's host family because of this

Proto-Ponyhead was not just a ponyhead. She's just like that because she can detach her head from her body and fly around??? And they would cut to what her body's doing in at St. Olga's??? Apparently she also spied on Ludo for Star

Yikes again….

Proto-Marco (aka Sol/Santiago) practiced Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art that's based on Karate instead of karate itself. He's also pretty into Japanese culture which apparently makes living with Star more manageable

The "How it Works" sections all but confirms that the show was pitched as an episodic comedy about Star and Sol's adventures. This unfortunately means that all the worldbuilding, twists and plot hooks introduced much later in the show's life means that they were likely conceived of right at that late point in production. That does explain a lot sadly…

Also, Ludo uses a secret passage way to get between Mewni and Earth, which is apparently the only other way to travel between worlds No mention of the Monsters being the victims of colonization, oppression and genocide. They're apparently just "hideous and unintelligent" creatures who are "mostly gullible" and Ludo rules them because "he's smarter than them"

Toffee. We've had conflicting statements about his motives. He's apparently both "a Magneto-like villain doing the right thing in the wrong way" and someone who went to all the trouble of corrupting magic to "just get his finger back". With the pitch bible, I was hoping that, even if it's just an early idea that was scrapped, there would be some hint of what he was originally wanting out of his plan. And I got it Toffee, in the earliest form of the show, was just Ludo's advisor who planned to takeover if/when Ludo gets Star's wand. He wasn't a charismatic general nor rebel fighting to end the oppression of his race. He was just a guy that Ludo hired.

Admittedly, Toffee treating the whole deal like a 9-5 office job is kind of funny. No matter what; he clocks in and out on schedule regardless of any chaos or impending disaster, he sticks to his legally mandated breaks and puts in his 40 hours of week because he refuses to be paid a flat fee and Ludo won't pay him in overtime. Not to mention how he apparently he has a family he comes home to complete with a kid to take to soccer practice Still though, the fact that there is no hint of any greater mystery or conflict in his sections pretty heavily implies if not confirms that every mystery, plot hook, even the few answers we got via the finale AMA about Toffee and his motives were thought of the moment their respective episodes were written/the moment the question was asked on reddit

So the Proto-Diazes live in Echo Creek because of the mystery surrounding it and that it's a "weakening dimension"… It was mentioned earlier in the pdf that it's the place where the dimensional rift is particularly thin and accessible

Star…. Star, just… Just don't

YIKES. NEFCY WTF?!?! This does explain how the fantasy racism metaphor was written in the final show but still... Why would you have two of your very few poc characters in your pitch say this to the BLONDE WHITE GIRL MAIN CHARACTER???

Oh, hey it's the bully character from one of the og Star comics. Neat! Followed by Proto-Starfan who's not as concerningly obsessed

Apparently August (Proto-Alfonzo) and Proto-Ferguson had crushes on Star. Considering the shipping mess in the later half of the final show, it's probably for the best that it was dropped

Oh, hey it's another og comic character! Who is apparently Sol's cousin and was sent to Mewni in the foreign exchange program! Poor kid

Apparently there was another antagonist early on that would be after Star. That wanted to steal her hair for her collection. Eh….

So Cashew from the og comics would have been Sol's cat instead of Star's. Then was written out completely

And we end this pitch with some members of Echo Creek Academy's faculty, one of which is a prototype Skeeves. Kind of interesting that there could have been more presence from the school staff instead of just Skullnick.

I did not know who to use for Hekapoo so I wanted to try Kelly, it was a rare mix but I liked the ending.

It took me a long time to make Angie because she did not know how to make her dress or her hairstyle, but in the end I liked her loose hair more.

Marco stared at the scarf his parents got him for PrideMonth. It was: pink, white, purple, black, and blue. The Genderfluid Flag. "Your papa and I wanted to get your something special for Pride. Something you could wear when you feel like Marco or Turdina. Do you like it?"

Tears prick at his eyes.

"It's...it's perfect," she whispered, a smile forming. She rubbed at her eyes as she looked up at her parents. She had to correct them on something, or else go down with a name she had made in a rush. "But, actually...it's not Turdina."

"Oh?" Her mom gripped her hand, her smile warm and safe. Her papa hovered next to them, his presence solid and warm. "Then what would you like to be called?"

"...Elena."

It Always Comes Back To Running With Scissors

Hey everyone,

So I’m still pretty quiet at the minute as I’m still processing my Grandma’s passing away, however someone recently liked one of my old trans Marco posts from the SVTFOE fandom and it has triggered a SVTFOE idea.

Now, as those who were following me back in the SVTFOE fandom will know, “Running with Scissors” had to be my most revisited episode. I seem to recall @marcodiazisatransgirl once calling me the expert on this particular episode. When it came to the trans Marco theory, many viewed this as the spanner in the works. The episode has Marco travel to a dimension called the Neverzone and grow into this hypermasculine adult version of themself with seemingly no dysphoria. Also time moves faster in the Neverzone, so Marco did actually age into adulthood in this reality by about 15 years if memory serves.

Over the years, I had so many explanations for this episode. So many theories all of which I really felt strongly about. For me this episode wasn’t the spanner in the works, it was a source of so much trans Marco evidence hidden in subtext. My key theory when it came to the Neverzone was that it was a form of escapism for Marco, it wasn’t an ideal reality but it was anywhere but the one they came from.

The post that recently got liked was me looking at “Running with Scissors” in comparison to Season 3A. Around this point Marco is living on Mewni and they seem very off as a character. They seem different and not quite like the Marco we know and love from Season 1 and 2. They actually seem quite comparable to Star early on, in being often pretty reckless although I would need to do a rewatch to give examples of this. It has been awhile.

It is interesting in this Season that Angie mentions that Marco needs a “French summer”. A time to find themselves away from Echo Creek and the people they know. Which brings quite neatly back to escapism. As I said in my previous post regarding this, for those of us bound to this Earth, escapism will often come in the form of video games, etc. But Marco actually has these whole other realities they can visit where barely anyone knows them and they can explore who they are with little or no consequence. In these worlds there is buff adult Marco, there is Princess Turdina, there is original Marco, etc. Marco gets to explore themself in ways they simply can’t on Earth. Mewni and the multidimensional escapes Star’s world brought were probably a God send for Marco.

Now, Star Vs The Forces of Evil ended with no canonical confirmation that Marco is trans but also the destruction of magic and all the dimensions merging into one. Something I have never thought of before, is Marco in essence loses their escape away from Earth, these multiple dimensions they could visit to explore various aspects of themself safely away from Earth are now gone. It makes me wonder, what are the consequences of all Marco’s worlds now colliding into one?

I’m gonna mull this over and once I am feeling better give SVTFOE a rewatch as I think this could be a great starting point for a new theory 😊
