Undertale Tarot Cards Review

These are from Fangamer.

So I’m only doing the Dreemurrs for now. Maybe more later.

Frisk:

So it’s Frisk. We see the knife and locket, then the stick and band aid.

I’m guessing this is either to tie the beginning to the end or to tie Chara and Frisk together (narra Chara theory go brrrr)

Toriel:

A fireball to reference her magic, of course. The shield because she’s your guardian (or it’s just to reference the Deltarune she has on her robe.)

A snail because snail pie, and a pie because, well, your momma cooks you good pies.

Flowey; Asriel

So Flowey and Asriel are my favorite of these. We see a pie and a locket to tie Asriel back to his best friend and his momma. But it’s also sad, because we see Asriel over Flowey sort of “falling into” his new form. We also see a hollow/clear soul, representing his lack of soul. I don’t think I need to explain the flower petals.

Meanwhile, Asriel’s card is, well…. He’s such a dork, haha. He has a childishly drawn meteor, heart, flower, and star to show that, despite his form and immense power, he’s still just a little kid playing pretend. The flower calls back to his mindset and who he is- Flowey.

There’s a lack of soul where Asriel has a cracked one in the bottom middle for Flowey’s card. Really rubbing in his soullessness. Artist really went after the poor little guy ):

Omega Flowey is just showing off his possession of six souls, with the torment of one more. Lots of flowers (and small Flowey faces) to show this is *his* world. He controls everything now. It also has a unique crown to show he’s the prince. Neat.

Hyper’s card has four save points, again representing the control he has, but also that you can SAVE something else. A rainbow save star over the center heart because it looks pretty. Also all those rainbow attacks.

Chara:

Chara is scratched out on the name here. From an out of game standpoint, it’s because *you’re* supposed to name Chara whatever you want. From a thematic standpoint, this might be because Chara is sort of erasing the past memories of her family and all that.

ATK, EXP, LV, and HP are here because, well, that ending speech. Also standard RPG terms. Chara being edgy and showing what a gamer she is.

Also the soul is being stolen.

This one’s just straight up creepy.

Asgore:

This one’s interesting.

The red soul in the middle, showing his goal, but on one side, the “frame” is broken. Maybe to show he is broken inside, he isn’t a fan of what he’s doing here. He wants to not do this. This is his breaking of the mercy button. He doesn’t want the mercy he knows Frisk will give.

The other symbols also represent the acts. A sword for attack, a sound wave to represent ACT, and a little bag to represent items. Also a Deltarune Angel at the top. Neato! This is on all of the cards, but I just figured I’d mention it on Asgore’s.

Premise: An undertale swap au where the swaps are decided by a wheel and i try to make a coherent story out of said swaps

Asgore:

The seventh fallen human. His fall was broken by a bed of seaweed.

The SOUL of Patience.

Makes the best tea!

Loves nature. Specifically has an interest in flowers but still adores animals, forests, etc

A natural leader. Fell down while trying to reassure other kids that there was nothing to be afraid off on Mount Ebott

Has back problems. Carries around a cane as a mobility aid.

Is notably taller than most kids his age.

Very calm and mature. Has a comforting, gentle presence.

Weapon is the Sturdy Cane and Armor is the Flower Crown.

Sturdy Cane

Info: Helps you move around. Can be used as a weapon in a pinch!

Flower Crown.

Info: Crafted from the Buttercups growing at the foot of the mountain.

Sealy the Seaweed

A weird, talking patch of seaweed that challenges asgore to a fight upon seconds of meeting him and almost kills him instantly, all while insulting him for being weak. Is fortunately swatted away by a stick.

Claims that Asgore has no chance of making it through the Underground. Killing him right now is Sealy's way of showing mercy.

Calls Asgore: "Punk" and "Snot-nosed brat."

Calls itself: "The Just Hero The World Needs."

Despises laziness with a passion.

Is begrudgingly pals with Mettacrit, whom it gives tips to in order to help him on his goal to becoming a well-known vigilante in Snowdin. In return, Mettacrit gives it makeovers (which it absolutely despises but tolerates for the sake of maintaining its friendship with Mettacrit, who it secretly cares about but would never admit it, instead claiming that it is purely for selfish reasons) and watches The Cute and Adorable Alphys' magical girl show: 'Petite and Cute~ Alphys sama!" With it

(Sealy pretends to hate it and find it cringe but is secretly drawn to the action of the show and 100% believes it's real)

Frisk

The caretaker of the ruins, despite their young age, and the sixth fallen human. Nobody outside the ruins knows they exist

They wear a crappily sewn lion mask whenever they exit their home in the ruins just in case someone manages to get in somehow. They're very paranoid

After falling down, they decided to stay in the ruins in order to guide and protect any other human that fell down

Very stoic and neutral. Almost impossible to read and very intimidating to the monsters of the Ruins.

When you get to know them, however, they can be very silly, making jokes and being overall very goopy. It becomes heavily apparent that they simply want to keep their loved ones safe and happy

Are also quite good at understanding monsters and resolving conflicts. They are considered an honorary monster to the ruins monsters because of this.

They don't want asgore to leave because they blindly fear the rest of the underground, going under the belief that since the monsters in the ruins were aggressive enough when they first arrived, the monsters outside would be worse

Befriended a kind someone who lives in snowdin. This strange someone kept playing pretend all by themselves, right next to the Ruins door.

One day, frisk decided to play along with them, coming up with their own character on the spot in order to join in on the imaginary adventure the strange person was making up.

Their friendship blossomed from there - with them meeting up often in order to roleplay.

..eventually, frisk ended up asking them to make a promise.

Butterscotch-cinnamon pie is replaced with the Cinnamon Bun.

Papyrus

An aspiring royal guardsman!

Lives in Waterfall. Son of nobody in particular :)

Has memory issues concerning his past. One of the reasons he wants to join the royal guard is because he feels his mysterious past has something to with the royal scientist in some way or another

That and he just thinks it'd be cool and that everyone would like him and that'd be sick :)

He goes to the Ruins often in order to contemplate what he needs to do in order to achieve his goal

Is completely oblivious to the fact that frisk is a human. They get into looney toon ass scenarios where papyrus is like: "HELLO LOPHEADED LION PERSON!! I HAVE A QUESTION.. WHY DOES YOUR MOUTH NEVER MOVE WHEN YOU TALK??" And frisk is fucking sweating while Papyrus very closely inspects them.. and then proceeds to say just a few moments later: "...I AM SURE IT IS NOTHING! GOODBYE NOW LION PERSON!!"

when asgore first meets papyrus, he is having a dramatic monologue about what he'd do if he had the fortune of capturing a human.. only to turn around and see one right in front of him.

Ghost sandwich is replaced by 'spaghetti' and 'laying around feeling like garbage' is replaced by 'posing heroically in order to feel cool!!!!"

Asriel

Lives in snowdin with his sibling, chara, while their mother does very important work for the Sovereign.. but chara prefers to visit waterfall, so they aren't really home most of the time

Befriended mettacrit shortly after moving into snowdin. he hangs out at his house a lot :) (he doesn't like being forced to acknowledge the empty house he lives in. Makes him feel lonely)

Admires mettacrit and is basically his sidekick in his heroic adventures.

Greets asgore as he exits the ruins, introducing himself as his new best friend :)

Is a bit of a pushover and lets metta drag him around

Secretly likes imagining himself as the almighty Absolute god of Hyperdeath - a legendary angel destined to protect and guide monsterkind to the surface.. maybe in another life.

Does his very best to fulfill a promise he made with a certain someone, even if he can't be everywhere at once like sans can.

He wants to get into flowers but doesn't really don't know where to start.. especially since snowdin doesn't have any. Perhaps asgore can help him?

(His equivalent to the sans grillby hangout is him and asgore bonding over flowers until he asks.. the question about a certain other plant. If you say yes or no, he will simply brush it off, saying: "I'm sure if Mettacrit likes them, they can't be all that bad!")

Bakes asgore sugar cookies shaped like the stars chara told him so much about!! They heal half his hp and can really come in handy.

Helped make chara's costume!! (Had help from toriel but he did the wings!! Sure they're a little.. oversized but who doesn't want huge wings??)

Mettacrit

The star of the show himself!!

The little cousin of Sovereign Napstablook. They were very close growing up and dreamed of becoming stars on the surface

But.. one napstablook took the throne, they ordered he be sent to Snowdin Town, not wanting to burden their cousin with their presence :(

Ever since then, they have been seperated.

Mettacrit's main goal is to entertain and distract the Underground from their..situation. As such, he likes to put on a grand and exaggerated facade. He often pretends to be a vigilante known as: "The Fabulous Tonton!" Alongside his sidekick, "The Meek Azzy."

So when he first meets asgore.. who is he to pass up this golden opportunity?

He got inspiration from his favorite TV show- "Petite and Cute~Alphys Sama!" Which he absolutely idolizes and forces asriel to watch it him often

Asriel also tries to talk him out of fighting asgore, to no avail. He does still help, healing asgore after every turn and stealing mettacrit's special attack

During his date, asgore gets to see a softer and more genuine side of mettacrit as asgore gets him to open up by simply being himself

Ghost sandwich replaces spaghetti.

At the end of the date, he reveals the unfortunate plot twist: the truth is.. he is not interested in asgore. Though who would blame him for falling in love with someone as perfect as him? Fret not, my dear, for there are plenty of other fish in the sea.. but for now, he would simply prefer to be friends.

Chara:

The fourth fallen human.

Wears a dragon costume. It has a smoke machine in it that makes it look like they're breathing out smoke, courtesy of toriel.

When he first gets into waterfall, asgore sees the silhouette of a child-like shadow running through the darkness, seemingly stalking from..

Only to disappear the second he turns around.

Eventually, it stops observing and starts throwing knives and fireballs and chasing him down.

We officially meet them as they stand atop a cliff dramatically, blowing out plumes of smoke.

"Greetings."

"I am CHARA."

"You..you are a human, correct?"

"..."

"You needn't speak. I would recognize one of your kind anywhere."

"You.. are a threat to the monsters of the Underground."

"Though you haven't hurt anyone so far.. that is merely one of your tricks, isn't it?"

"You act kind, and then stab others in the back once they get attached to you-"

"That.. is the true nature of humanity."

"..I have no clue as to why the Royal Guard hasn't apprehended you yet."

"But.. I will remedy their mistake."

"As is tradition for those who have taken on this role in the past, I will tell you the tragic story of Monsterkind from beginning to present."

"..."

"No."

"Someone of your species doesn't deserve to know."

"You would probably find some way to use it to your advantage, like the little rat you are."

"... I would know. After all.."

(They take off their mask)

"I am one of you, regrettably."

"... When you work up the nerve to face me.."

"Take a step forward. I will show you the true power of Monsterkind.."

"Channeled through my blade."

(Asgore steps forward)

"...Hmph."

"Typical human. Too cocky for their own good."

(They then jump down)

Chara corners Asgore at Hotland, and is about to land the finishing blow when asriel suddenly shows up, panting because he ran all the way there.

Chara is about to ignore him and do it anyway, saying that it's for the safety of monsterkind, but asriel brought backup.

Toriel suddenly walks on, doing her signature stare, which makes chara stop trying to kill asgore and begrudgingly go back to waterfall, asriel following behind.

Later, asgore visits chara.

(The replacement of the undyne hangout is chara's secret spot - the echo flower field!)

though at first they want nothing to do with him, they eventually open up.

"...What is that in your hands, human?"

"..Tea?"

"You.. you wish for me to have it?"

"...I decline."

(Asgore shrugs before sitting down next to them)

"...Why are you not attacking me?"

"...No one knows about this place except for me. You could kill me right now and no one would never know."

"..."

"Ha..haha."

"I have become my worst enemy, have I not?"

"Cruel. Heartless."

"I am a hypocrite. No better than the rest of our kind."

"I knew m-Toriel should have let me die that day, that way I would've been useful to Monsterkind-"

(asgore hugs chara)

"You..you.."

"You are an idiot."

"An idiot too kind for their own good."

"..Just like Asriel."

"..."

(Asgore hands Chara a cup of tea. They shakily take a sip.)

"This tea is.. acceptable."

"...I don't have good experience with humanity."

"They have done nothing but neglect, abuse, and discard me like a child's doll."

"It's the reason I even climbed up this mountain in the first place."

"For the longest time, I blindly hated them. It didn't help when I learned the situation of the Monsters."

"But..but you.."

"You never laid a hand on a single monster, did you?"

(Asgore shakes his head)

"I thought so. I just.. didn't want to admit to myself that you were so kind without any ulterior motives."

"I..pushed away Azzy, after you left. He only tried to make me feel better, and yet-"

"I am a horrible person. A real monster."

(A silence fills the air the air. After a few moments, asgore pulls the bulb of an echo flower and sticks it in Chara's hair.)

"...3 SOULs."

"That's all Monsterkind needs before they can break the barrier that keeps them down here.."

"And reach for the stars."

"...This morning, I wanted nothing more than for Monsterkind to reach this goal by any means necessary, no matter who got hurt in the process."

"...But now, I can't help but hope that somehow, some way.."

"You won't have to give up your SOUL in the end."

(Chara laughs bitterly)

"...Stupid humans."

"All they do is hurt."

TW: mention of abuse/child abuse and mention of suicide

haven't seen many people talk about chara's potential need for "purpose." like:

"At first, I was so confused. Our plan had failed, hadn't it? Why was I brought back to life? … You. With your guidance. I realized the purpose of my reincarnation. Power. Together, we eradicated the enemy and became strong."

how many people would come back to life and think, "what am i supposed to do with this?" instead of "why has this happened and what do *i want* to do with it?" purpose is a very specific word choice here.

it makes me wonder if chara is someone who is defined by a lack of autonomy in their life. probably linking to the angel prophecy, though also probably going back even further to their original life on the surface world. assuming they were mistreated, this hints they were very closely controlled by their human guardians. and then to fall down, be accepted by a loving family, and then hear of the angel from the surface who's supposed to set the monsters free?

this makes sense as to why they'd even kill themselves to help set monsterkind free. because it's their grand, prophesised "purpose." and, failing that but coming back to life, surely there must be a "purpose of [their] reincarnation"?

well, watching frisk/the player at work, they can either learn to trust in kindness, mercy and love, forgiving asriel and hopefully forgetting the whole "purpose" talk (hm. susie deltarune quote) OR be shown that they were not only right to use violence, they in fact should use it against everyone, they have been wronged and humans and monsters must suffer for it, they must attain power so they can eliminate this wretched world.

and they can't unsee what you've done, the purpose you've shown them, so they will use your soul to carry it out again on a post-no-mercy pacifist run.

thinking about it, they do also talk in a very grand way. not like flowey, who acts menacing and sinister and taunts you constantly. they talk very calmly (in a no-mercy playthrough) thinking about the world in a very "the grand scheme of things" way, a rotten thing that needs to be destroyed. i think, if someone believed their purpose was to destroy an entire world, they would come to speak about it and talk and think in that sort of way.

i think it adds a lot of depth to chara. they're not just an angry kid who can be swayed so easily by what you show them. they're someone who has defined themselves by a need for purpose, to do whatever they were destined to do.

it also shows, that no matter how calm and confident they seem, that they are a kid who latches on to whoever shows them love or alliance.

Transcript: Hmmm. I just realized something interesting about Chara. All these headcanons about ‘evil Chara’ and weird stuff like that? And how everyone hates those?

They seem to have forgotten that Chara, at the end of the No Mercy route, IS evil. Evil Chara is perfectly applicable on a second No Mercy, and would be especially applicable on something implausible like Dusttale.

The reason why they’re evil is Frisk makes them evil. After all, they share a very important bond, don’t they?

I can’t excuse anyone who calls No Mercy Chara/Frisk the Angel of Death, though. That’s just wrong. That title goes to Asriel.

oh, and the Player is a deltarune concept that really is only kind of vaguely mentioned once in Undertale by Flowey, so it’s okay if someone doesn’t take that into consideration.

Small Synopsis:

Mercy comes from an AU where several souls were pulled together to form an ‘Angel’ to set them free with little repercussions.

The previous test subject had failed, their last hope was Frisk, a human who had fallen underground… and with patience they eventually succeeded, it cost Frisk and several souls to make a new one; with this came another problem a vessel to hold it.

Retired scientists came together and reinforced metals to hold them in one place, and now here we are… a new person, new body.. An angel to protect the underground.

She had recently completed her tasks, and now roams freely in the Omega timeline... trying to find friends, and help those in need.

Recently a few letters have been finding themselves in her hands, she's excited to answer what is asked of her.

I feel like in Undertale the Delta Rune was misinterpreted. Everyone thought it was like this:

There’s an Angel who has seen the surface, that’s the circle with wings. The three triangles are monsters.

But I think it’s a little more like this:

The three triangles actually represent Chara, Frisk (triangles facing up, they have seen the surface) and Asriel (his faces down because he has only lived underground)

The “Angel” isn’t just a singular Angel. It’s supposed to show that those triangles all take part in emptying the underground.

Chara:

- has seen the surface

- made a plan to free monsters, which led to Asriel’s and their own death

- Asriel dying led to him becoming Flowey, eventually leading to the end of true pacifist. The memories Asriel has of Chara help him give up fighting. (Also if you believe in the NarraChara theory, Chara’s presence makes Frisk shout their name, making Asriel remember

- their presence and plan helped Asriel remember

- (they erased the world in the no mercy run, technically clearing the underground)

Frisk:

- they have seen the surface

- they shout Chara’s name, helping Asriel remember himself

- they fought Asriel and befriended the monsters, which Asriel took the souls of

- (they also cleared the underground in the no mercy run…)

Asriel:

- he has seen the surface

- he broke the barrier

I've gotta wonder how Flowey's potbot would change in the dark world? Like does it count as his clothes in which case Az just gets a new look, or does it count as inventory like Kris's pencil (which makes a sword) or Susie's hairbrush (?) which becomes an axe, in which it would completely change form and maybe even grant him some new magic. Or maybe not, since unlike the deltarune monsters, he already has magic. One thing, I know, is if Frisk had the stick, it would turn into a cool staff or broom capable of flight. Also, the kids costumes, weapons and roles do seem reminescent of dnd classes, like Susie's a barbarian, Ralsei's a cleric, Red's a knight/paladin (someone says Kris would probably fit better as a rogue if on their own and I agree), and Noelle's a White Mage. So I'm gonna say Frisk would be a bard, because of the flirtiness and silly showiness, and Asriel would be like a... warlock or sorceror? something cool, edgy and god of hyperdeath like (or maybe just another barbarian, he is pretty agressive and impulsive sometimes...).

And I'm pretty convinced that you bring Chara to the darkworld and their beloved dagger straight up becomes a flaming sword, fit for a persecuting Angel =)

You activiated my brain, friend! Thank you! Anyways, I couldn't decide if this would be their Darkworld looks or just their DND looks, it's up to you. Either way I got a little too creative.

Asriel still wasn't able to fully get his real body back in this world, but thankfully the potbot transformed with him and still serves as his body and while he looks crabby in the picture, he really warms up to it and loves this form (and yes, his bangs are also his flower petals!) I had trouble deciding what class he would be, but landed on him long ago being a cleric (like Ralsei) then turned into a soulless druid, then turned into a fighter (still a druid but with a soul now?? I dunno, send help) ( either way, the armor-body and chaos saber helped me decide)

His Chaos Saber is now a Gold Flower (Chaos) Saber, but it's cursed and whispers things old Flowey used to say, but Asriel whispers back and tells it to shut up and never listens. (It's a lot like Finn's grass sword issue with Fern (Adventure Time))

While he plays a guitar in Growing Pains and even sings some, I was unsure if being a bard would have fit him because Frisk enjoys singing so much more than him and even later becomes a professional karaoke singer...

OH WAIT, what if he eventually transforms his saber into a guitar and transitions into a bard too? DOUBLE BARD TEAM, NOW THEY'RE A BAND! (Again, send help.)

Now to Frisk, I really liked your idea for them being a bard because you're right, it does definitely fit them, they prefer talking and flirting their way out of situations than fighting.

Their stick becomes and magic mic, it makes their opponent listen to them (depending on their level) and they can either sing like they're a professional karaoke singer, using their song to support Asriel and make him stronger, or, they can act as a comedic therapist to either distract the opponent with laughter, or get in their head and make them cry with a single powerful word. (The therapist method is extremely effective but it rarely works/makes Frisk very tired)

(In their Angel of Mercy AU I made of them, their stick is actually part sword, and I think it's an optional route for them if they ever wanted to shake things up and change classes, but perhaps they become a sorcerer or cleric and their sticks grows and becomes a wand?)

Like Kris, their color pallet changes and they become pink/purplish/gold, but I couldn't decide what to do with their hair and skin, so I kept it mostly the same but made it cooler.

400 Follower Special - OMORI Guardian Angel AU: Ask Them Anything!

Hello folks! Here it is! I have official reached 400 followers (roughly, I now I got rid of most bots) and now I have to do something about it! I first had a thing I wanted to do but I have decided to do that for 500 followers, so for this milestone...

...I’ll let them do something instead!

Ask your favorite RPG protags (and their spectral companions) any question you want! (mostly) Want some thoughts on their current feelings? Want to know some hidden lore? Do you want to know Chara’s favorite food? (Spoilers!) Just send an ask to my askbox before March 25th!

My take on Kindness SOUL

I was struck with inspiration the other day, and I just felt the need to draw them!! Kindness is my favorite SOUL type so I kinda projected a little bit with their overall aesthetic, don't mind me.

I saw the name "Sunny" around a lot for them and instantly fell in love!!

The idea with the apron is that when Sunny fell down, it was a coral pink "Cooking Apron" instead of a "Stained Apron" (because my favorite color is pink and again, projection). It was left in Hotland for a long time after their SOUL was taken, and the color faded and was instead stained with the orange in Hotland's flooring (which I'm imagining to be like slightly loose clay or something). So by the time Frisk finds it, it's become an orange stained apron.

On the pan, originally I thought it was funny that at one point Sunny burnt it and they just keep it around as a self defense tool, but then someone gave me the idea of it originally not being burnt and at some point during their adventure Sunny blocked a fire attack and it got burnt. Then I had the brilliant idea that before it got burnt it had the ability to parry attacks (either keeping them as normal or turning them into green attacks depending on Sunny's intention) and after it got burnt, it lost that ability cause it got damaged!!

For a potential genocide route, I was thinking of them as a sort of "mercy killer" or "angel of death" maybe. In their eyes, killing the monsters would be kinder than letting them rot underground for all eternity, or seeing them as pitiful creatures and death would be the kindest thing Sunny could give them.

(this was posted on both my Reddit and yt account under the same name, so if you miraculously find those I’m not stealing don’t worry XD)

I wanna do more art and post it, and I also have an undertale au that I wanna maybe make a side blog for but it’s embarrassing and hard to fight off my fear of judgement :D

Not real evidence, but another thing that I think strengthens the narrator theory for me anyway is this.

The first two are from the boss fight against Asriel when he's transformed into the Angel of Death, his goat head with long horns atop a floating, legless, triangular body with long clawed hands in gloves and giant, rainbow-colored wings spread out that are shifting colors. Face scrunched up, he's wailing and shouting, "So, please… Stop doing this… And just let me win!!!"

The next two screenshots are from much earlier in the game: the first is in the tutorial fight against the Dummy in the Ruins, which the player has spared. The narration reads, "You won! You earned 0 XP and 0 gold." The final screenshot is from killing an enemy. The player is LV 4 and the narration reads, "You won! You earned 100 XP and 140 gold. Your LOVE has increased."

End description.

The whole game, the narrator has cheered us on most any time we win an encounter with a monster, whether we fought or spared. The only exception is when we beat the boss at the end of the area, again whether that is sparing or killing (eg Toriel, Papyrus) - there is no narration when a boss encounter has been won. The only exception ironically is if you spare the injured Flowey after the Photoshop Flowey fight: the narration simply says, "Flowey ran away." (If you kill him however, the narrator says nothing, as with the result of every other boss fight.)

(Tangent: The Doylist explanation for this is probably that these are the main characters and their words to us when defeated is supposed to be what sticks, so having the narration say "Yay, good job! You got this from that!" might break up the mood in a way Toby didn't want. The narration for "Flowey ran away" is used instead to drive home how pitiful he's become with his tearful reaction to the Mercy spam.)

It just feels like something Toby would do, ya know? Asriel, the antagonist, pleading with Chara, the narrator who's been letting us win the whole game, to let him win. And then, even though they were jabbering excitedly earlier in the fight, they stay silent and say nothing back to his pleas, perhaps because they know he's talking to the wrong person and won't be able to hear them anyway (Frisk is the one he's fighting, not them), or perhaps because they can't bring themself to say anything else after the flashbacks (the narrator does fall silent suddenly after the flashbacks; the reality of it all hitting home for Chara and choking them up?). And of course, with the narrator saying nothing back, Asriel then ends up "losing" as he cries and has his change of heart.

Thematically, it's just too cool that, along with everything else, it makes it really hard for me to believe that Toby didn't intend NarraChara.

It would also make sense as a game the two used to play and perhaps the reason Chara is so quick to start narrating everything for us. Asriel has his Absolute God of Hyperdeath character the narrator is quick to recognize and describe, after all, so it wouldn't surprise me if this was a game they played: Chara the DM describing the world and enemies around Asriel as he, the hero of the story, ventures forth and battles enemies. Drawing their stories, recording their games with the camera. Flowey, the one-time hero of the story, turned villain, wants to keep playing but can never hear their voice again. And Chara, now reduced to just their voice, never able to speak to their friend again and now fated to narrate the real-life, life-or-death adventures of strangers in different worlds (with the silver lining that they at least seem to enjoy Frisk's and Kris' company).

It's also interesting to consider in light of this from Chara themself.

The only time Chara, our otherwise plucky faithful narrator, won't let you win. They deny you winning in a much more brutal way than the sad silence they give Asriel on Pacifist, and should you do Pacifist again after this, they make sure to snatch that victory from you too.
