So this week is going to go down as maybe the most sapphic week in animation history. It’s going to have a great case, there are so many sapphic shows or shows with prominent sapphic couples airing this week.

Don’t know what I’m talking about? Here’s a quick rundown:

Yuri Is My Job!

Premiering on Crunchyroll on April 6th.

Yuri is My Job! is based on a yuri manga of the same name. It follows high schooler Hime, who cares deeply about her image as sweet and helpful, even though she’s actually selfish. She accidentally injures the manager of a cafe, and agrees to work there to make up for it. But this is no ordinary cafe, it’s like a cafe dinner theater where all the waitresses play characters from a fictional high school and act out skits for the patrons. Hime’s character is supposed to be in love with one of the other waitresses’ character, but she starts actually falling for the girl. Only problem is, behind the scenes the other waitress seems to hate her.

Yeah, that sounds kind of bonkers! I can already see the story now, Hime starting out playing a role, and eventually having to legitimately earn the love of Mitsuki.

Birdie Wing: Golf Girls’ Story

Season 2 premiering on Crunchyroll on Friday, April 7th

Ah Birdie Wing. If you saw season one, you know just how delightful wacky this show is. It follows the stories of Eve, a golfer that plays in illegal underground golf matches for the mob, and Aoi, a golf prodigy and the new sensation of the golf world. Their lives crash into each other and the chemistry is overwhelming and immediate.

Technically Eve and Aoi aren’t canon as of the end of s1, but it’s hard to imagine that the show isn’t heading in that direction. It makes no effort to hide the fact that these two are into each other.

I’m so excited to see what season 2 has in store for these two. Birdie Wing is just a delightfully weird little show.

Princess Principal: Crown Handler Chapter 3

Premieres in theaters in Japan on Friday, April 7th

Alright, so this won’t be useful to a lot of people reading this, as this is only premiering in Japan this weekend. But I wanted to mention it because (a) it’ll come over to the US sometime this year, and (b) Princess Principal is awesome and I want to promote it when I can.

Princess Principal was a 12 episode series that aired in 2017, and Crown Handler is a six-part sequel OVA series.

In a nutshell, Princess Principal is a steampunk spy thriller set in an alternate universe European kingdom that has been divided by a wall, Berlin-style. It follows a team of spies, masquerading as high school girls, as they try to prevent the two sides from going to war.

I know, “why is this on a list of gay shit?” Well, because it is. Two of the main characters, Ange and Princess Charlotte, are big-time into each other and while the original series does the anime thing of “we’re only allowed to go so far with this��, the OG series has a lot of intimate scenes between the two and does end *SPOILERS* with the two of them sitting on the beach together while holding hands.

And perhaps Crown Handler, being made years later, can finally take their relationship farther.

RWBY Volume 9

Volume 9 episode 8 airing on Crunchyroll on Saturday, April 8th

RWBY has been ongoing, and the current volume has been airing since February, but there’ll be another episode this Saturday. Right now RWBY is in the middle of dealing with a lot of trauma, BUT, the bees are canon and dating so every episode of RWBY is now officially gay. So says me.

The Owl House: Watching and Dreaming

 Series finale airing on the Disney Channel on Saturday, April 8th

I’M NOT READY TO LOSE THIS SHOW! 😭

*ahem* The third and final season 3 special airs on Saturday, and promises to be mega emotional and super gay.

I’m grateful that this show had a chance to finish its story, something a lot of sapphic media doesn’t get to do. But I am still pissed about it getting cancelled in the first place simply because it didn’t fit their “brand” (read: this show is too gay for Disney).

But I just know that Dana and her team put together a sensational finale.

Mobile Suit Gundam: the Witch From Mercury

Season 2 premiering on Crunchyroll on Sunday, April 9th.

Affectionately called G-Witch, season 1 of this show was a revelation in the fall. It follows the story of Suletta Mercury, precious cinnamon roll and the most talented mobile suit pilot around, and Miorine Rembran, daughter of the president of the Benerit Group, a mega-corporation that has massive political power.

The show revolves around a school that’s mostly full of the children of powerful people. And then there’s Suletta, a nobody that just wants to be a normal girl and have a normal school life but through a series of events ends up in a mobile suit duel that she easily wins, earning her the title of Holder, which makes her Miroine’s groom.

At first, the two treat the arrangement as a business arrangement, both seeing practical value in this arranged engagement. But it’s obvious that Miorine is actually pretty into Suletta from the start, and we see Suletta slowly falling for Miorine too.

G-Witch is incredible. Part awesome mecha fights, part political intrigue, part romance between two useless girls who’d rather die that admit their actual feelings.

I am SO EXCITED for season 2!

LGBTQ media hasn’t had it great as of late, with a ton of frustrating cancellations and it almost feeling like Hollywood is going backwards in terms of its commitment to giving us space to tell our stories.

But animation, both in the US and in Japan, seems to be making great strides, being our light in the dark.

All five of these shows are airing episodes this week, and Crown Handler will be in theaters this week and on streaming/blu-ray later this year. RWBY has been airing for weeks and its been the gayest volume yet. the Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady just finished airing and was wonderfully sapphic. I’m In Love With the Villainess is scheduled to air sometimes this year. And just maybe we might get Arcane season 2 before the end of the year.

I’m excited for how sapphic and yuri animation is progressing, I hope it keeps going forward.

“guess who~”

Someone covered your eyes, appearing out of nowhere.

“you’re back early” you smiled, before the man who appeared behind you covered your eyes tighter

“You didn’t guess”

“ugh you- I mean my wonderful and amazing boyfriend, the one and only, the greatest man in Teyvat, Lyney!” You said sarcastically, Lyney chuckled as he felt you rolling your eyes.

“oh come on now! Don’t you want to see something cool?” “look Lyney- I’m- ah rosseland no go back!” you felt the cat rub against your leg, you got tickled a bit.

lyney chuckled at the sight, pressing a kiss to the back of your neck, causing you to get tickled more

“ah-lyney” you laughed “stop!!”

He chuckled before letting go of your eyes

“tada!”

and just like that, your canvas was gone. “hey where did you-“

when you looked back, you saw him holding a bouquet of rainbow roses. You blushed

“why did you…”

“you said you were running out of inspo right?”

you nod

“and you know how I’ve been in a lot of missions lately right?”

you nod

“well I.. charlotte told me in a mission that rainbow roses signify romance and passion. And well… I got reminded of you”

you blushed, averting your gaze

“they’re fresh too! I Just picked them”

he smiled, sitting on a chair behind you and hugging you from behind.

“wait..picked them?”

“mmhm, I grew them myself.”

you were shocked, you didn’t even know that he had been growing flowers for you.

“just like my love has grown for you”

AND THAT WAS IT. That was the last straw, at this point you were a flustered mess and you didn’t know how to thank him. Let alone even look at him.

“Tsk…you shouldn’t have-“

“No- no buts! I wanted to, I love you”

he smiled, holding your chin to make you face him. He laughed, “my you’re so cute like this!” “shh!!” You crossed your arms, as your lover planted a kiss on your lips.

He moved the chair next to you and with a snap, the canvas re appeared and the roses in a vase in front of it

“can I Watch?”

you nod, and he lays his head on your shoulder as you start to sketch.

“your art is so pretty… I’ll never understand how you do it so well…” he mumbled as Rosseland hops into his lap. and just nuzzles against him a lot.

“I think rosseland agrees as well” he smiles. Looking up to see you for a bit

“still speechless Mon ange?” He chuckled, wrapping an arm around your waist.

“I love you”

La vie amoureuse de Louis XIV

Marie Angélique de Scorailles was a French noblewoman and one of the many mistresses of Louis XIV. A lady-in-waiting to his sister-in-law Elizabeth Charlotte, Princess Palatine, the Duchess of Orléans, she caught the attention of the Sun King and began an affair with him in 1679.

Died: June 28, 1681, Port-Royal Abbey, Paris

« Belle Beauté et Port-Royal

Mademoiselle de Fontanges a passé comme une comète dans la vie amoureuse de Louis XIV. Patrick Daguenet, dans une biographie confrontant pour la première fois la quasi-totalité des sources disponibles, évoque avec sensibilité le destin tragique et méconnu de la dernière passion du Roi-Soleil.

Le 17 octobre 1678, la princesse Palatine, belle-sœur de Louis XIV, reçoit au château de Saint-Cloud une nouvelle fille d’honneur : Marie-Angélique de Scorailles de Roussille, dite Mlle de Fontanges. Sa famille, d’extraction chevaleresque, est originaire de Haute-Auvergne. Pendant la Fronde, son père, Jean-Rigaud de Scorailles, s’est illustré en 1651 au siège de Montrond. Mais il n’est pas un courtisanet c’est dans ses châteaux auvergnats de Cropières et de Roussille que le guerrier prend son repos auprès d’une épouse réputée pieuse à laquelle il fait neuf enfants.

La duchesse de Fontanges lance une mode qui fait fureur… après sa mort 

Marie-Angélique de Scorailles de Roussille, qui devient duchesse de Fontanges en 1680, est célèbre pour avoir été la dernière favorite officielle et éphémère (1679 – 1680) d’un Louis XIV vieillissant qui épousera ensuite en secret Madame de Maintenon. Malgré la beauté (remarquée par tous les contemporains) de sa nouvelle conquête de dix-sept ans, malgré sa douceur et sa bonté, le monarque quadragénaire se lasse rapidement de son manque d’esprit et de culture. Lorsque la duchesse de Fontanges décède prématurément à l’abbaye de Chelles en 1681, elle laisse en héritage une mode tenace qui affole les dames : la coiffure « à la Fontange » ! Plongée dans les recherches nécessaires à la thématique du mois de septembre dans l’espace membre du Cabinet Secret intitulée « À vos cheveux, prêtes… coiffez ! », je déborde de trouvailles

CABINET DIT « DE LA DUCHESSE DE FONTANGES »

Vers 1680, bois d’ébène et de palissandre, marqueterie de cuivre et d’étain, 186 x 114 x 60 cm

L’histoire de ce meuble est royale. Il avait en effet été commandé par Louis XIV pour l’une de ses maîtresses, Mademoiselle de Fontanges.

La beauté de Mademoiselle de Fontanges était fortement commentée à la Cour du Roi-Soleil.

« Les portraits faits de Marie-Angélique s’accordent avec les discours locaux à propos de sa grande beauté, témoignage unanime de ses contemporains. Sa chevelure claire, blonde, un peu rousse, de la couleur du miel et bouclée soulignant son teint éclatant.

Marie-Angélique de Scoraille de Roussille, duchesse de Fontanges est née en 1661. Elle entre à la cour en 1679 en tant que fille d’honneur de la Princesse Palatine, qui la décrivait ainsi « Belle comme un ange, avec un cœur excellent ». Elle devient favorite du Roi à l’âge de 17 ans, s’attirant ainsi les foudres de Madame de Montespan, alors prête à tout pour l’écarter de Louis XIV. Le doute planera sur les circonstances de sa mort, en pleine affaire des poisons. Elle laissera à la postérité la célèbre coiffure « à la Fontanges ».

Marie Angélique de Scorraille de Roussille, duchesse de Fontanges, née en juillet 1661 et décédée le 28 juin 1681, était une favorite de Louis XIV. En 1679, elle tomba dans les bras du roi, lui-même alors âgé de 41 ans. Elle fut la dernière à ce titre dans la vie de Louis XIV, dans la mesure où la relation du roi avec Mme de Montespan était alors finissante et où Mme de Maintenon ne fut pas à proprement parler une favorite puisque le roi l'épousa.

On pense que Mlle de Fontanges naquit au château de Cropières, dans le Cantal. Elle décéda à l'Abbaye de Port-Royal de Paris.

Princess Principal

It’s been 4 years since I last watched Princess Principal 💞 I missed them all sooo much, especially Ange and Charlotte 🥺😭💖

After recently watching the 1st movie that was released this year, I’ve decided to rewatch the entire season 1 again

It reminded me of how beautifully made this anime is (with all the details, scenes, OP & ED, OSTs, voice acting, well-written stories, and more) and unique in various aspects

I’m totally looking forward to the 2nd movie and other upcoming films (up to 6)
