“Night speeds by, and we, Aeneas, lose it in lamenting. Here comes the place where cleaves our way in twain. Thy road, the right, toward Pluto's dwelling goes, And leads us to Elysium. But the left Speeds sinful souls to doom, and is their path to Tartarus th' accurst.”
— Virgil, Aeneid

Arboreal Salamander (Aneides lugubris) bite a finger!!!, family Plethodontidae, found in California and Baja California
Arboreal, these salamanders have prehensile tails, and will use their limbs to glide or "parachute" from trees, if they need to.
They can deliver a nasty bite.

And my little Stardew valley profile thing, even if it’s now inaccurate!

Hello yes don't forget to show off the lovely art you did for Tales of Aneid Bay (shortlived as it was)
Okay! Especially since you did the actual drawing of it :)

Animal of the Day!
Green Salamander (Aneides aeneus)
Conservation Status- Near Threatened
Habitat- Appalachian Mountains
Size (Weight/Length)- 12 cm
Diet- Insects
Cool Facts- Like many species of salamander, the green salamander is extremely habitat-specific. They need an undergrowth covered in thick moss to keep their skin moist and even then they rarely leave their rocky crevice homes. Every so often, the green salamander will take a trip up a tree to find a hollow or crack to hang out in. The less sunlight, the better. They are the only salamanders in North America to have green pigment in their skin. A prehensile tail aids the tiny dudes in climbing over a mega sized world, even fallen logs pose a monumental effort. Male green salamanders are seen as one of the most aggressive salamanders. They are highly territorial towards other males, taking toes and even tails from their opponent.
Rating- 13/10 (Hibernate in the winter and return with the first rain of spring.)

Kinda wild we had to use the American Civil War for why Camp Jupiter and Camp Halfblood were at odds with each other.
And not anything from mythology like the Iliad.
Like I get it was the Trojan’s vs the Greeks but pretty sure you could’ve just clobbered the Aneid in there and involve Romans that way.
Because well let’s be real here it’s not like we’re being faithful to the actual myths so like we could’ve had something cool.
And not…which of us are fighting in favour of slavery.
Same with the Big 3 swearing off kids like did we need to make Nico’s half brother Hitler for that to happen.

classics major gf says that this whole thing where the trio are treated as pawns with one monster after another telling them that their family is fucked up and they'll never get the approval and love they want from their parents and even when they do everything right, they'll fail their quest and be blamed for it, that this is all like the aneid and I don't know anything about the aneid but I do know that as a greek story that can't be any good

Aneides lugubris better known as the arboreal salamander is a species of climbing salamander native to the US state of California and the baja peninsula of mexico. These primarily nocturnal amphibians tend to inhabit thick chapparal shrubland and oak, sycamore, sequoia, and redwood dominated forests. These amphibians spends there days hiding in moist tree hollows, leaf litter, root bundles, rodent burrows, or cracks and holes in rocks, emerging at night to hunt insects and other invertebrates. These moderately social amphibians may share there hidy holes with as many as 10 other salamanders, and communicate with one another by barking. As there name suggests arboreal salamanders are excellent climbers, sporting large feet with strong elongated toes and a prehensile tail. It is known to jump between branches, angeling its limbs and tail to act as parachutes and help it glide. Reaching around 4 to 7 inches (10 to 18cms) in length, the arboreal salamander sports a broad triangular head packed with unusually long and sharp teeth for an amphibian. The coloration is dark brownish purple to gray with yellowish or white spotting that varies between populations and in some cases is absent. The underside is a solid cream color. The breeding season occurs from late spring to early summer, after mating the female lays twelve to twenty-four eggs in a moist hollowed area such as a rotten log or tree hollow, where she will care for them until they hatch some 3 to 4 months later. Under ideal conditions an arboreal salamander may reach sexual maturity at around 2.5 years of age and may live upwards of 10.
