I agree with all of this. I think it's also worth mentioning another problem: the concentration of certain industries in certain areas with the expectation that you must work on-site and thus relocate to do so. For some industries this makes sense; anything ocean-related, for example, you do probably need to be near an ocean. However, for industries like games, film, technology, etc., there's no reason with the advent of remote work that we all need to move to Los Angeles or San Fransisco.

Years ago, I moved thousands of miles away from my family in the DC area to work in games. I would have loved to stay there and do that, but because the industry there is so small and hostile to people early in their careers, I had to move to the West Coast over a decade ago. The bulk of that industry is still concentrated in a few small geographical areas in CA and WA, and so that's where I ended up. The studio I work at now is fully remote, so I work from home and probably could move back if I really wanted to, but the reality is I've put down new roots here so the damage is done.

Sure, there's something to be said for a community of people already in an industry, but imagine if there were lots of small communities scattered around in lots of places? I think there's a longer, more detailed indictment of the game industry in here somewhere, but that deserves its own post.

My point is, you should be able to live wherever you want for any reason you want. Cost of living is absolutely a huge contributor to breaking up families. Another one is the honestly unreasonable expectations of employment in some industries.

Genuinely so angry I can't live in the places I grew up because they are fundamentally too expensive for me to go home.

I miss San Diego. I miss Monterey. I miss my home so much every time I go back and visit my parents. But living in the place they live, in the place I grew up, is so wildly expensive that it might as well be Narnia. All I want to do is go home, and I simply can't. There is something fundamentally wrong with the world.

I don't care what anyone says, High School Jess was still good for Rory. I agree he wasn't the best person and he treated her like shit at times, but this is also coming from a kid who never got a true family experience and who never understood what it felt like to be truly loved and cared for, and I think he just didn't know how to respond to it. And that's why he left in the first place. He thought that she deserved better and he would never be good enough. That's also why he went back to her after all those years, and why he never stopped loving her. Because she was the first person to treat him like a human and not just the local degenerate and he was hoping that she would see how much he matured and was hoping that he would finally be enough for her, but by then she had become immature. They swapped places. But he knew he got better and was hoping she would too, hence him STILL not being over her in AYITL. Jess was the best Rory boyfriend, not because of how he treated her, but because of how he wanted to and how he never lost hope for her even when he lost it in himself. Happy (very late) 12th Anniversary to RC9GN ^_^

i haven’t gotten the chance to draw or make anything since i’ve been stuck in a hospital bed for the past few days, but i wanted to say that this show has impacted my life like crazy and its really such an amazing cartoon.

its one of the very few series i consider a comfort show so yah. i can never stop smiling every time i watch. its been helping me out a lot especially now with what im going thru.

Its a huge shame we never got a third season, Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja really had SO much potential. i <3 RC9GN. sometimes i can’t believe its a real show.
