New Painting entitled: "EYE am MOOR, than U know" Medium: Acrylics and Marker on canvas Size: 20inx24in Price: DM me. . Summary of painting: After experiencing the awesomeness that is called @asherald paintings in Chelsea and researching earlier works of Mr. Barkley Kendricks monochromatic work. I started this series of paintings also inspired by the art of Ludwig Deutsch, the painter who painted the goings on of The Muslims from Africa who were called "Moors" who brought civilization to Spain and stayed there for centuries helping to evolve that culture technologically, spiritually and physically. I wanted to show simplicity but vibrance thru color and minimalism with one figure and small text ( which reads Moor, more, Muslim, Spain). Only serious inquiries please.... . . #moorsofspain #muslimsinspain #andulasia #spain #islam #khatees #KHALIDSABREE #dopeart #muslim #blackmuslim #themuslimmale #swizzbeatz #ArtGallery #bilalian #granadaspain #blackmuslim #eidmubarak #nyeid (at La Alhambra, Granada, España) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2Z79yBjUtV/?igshid=hywwdz7cw0x4

dont get me started on giselle's outfits in enchanted - tam :P
THANK YOU TAM ILY
boooooo it deleted my initial response. trying again.
the outfits giselle wears in enchanted (except the last two? i believe?) can be categorised with two styles/periods: 1830s and regency.
the first dress is sort-of regency sort-of medieval, with disney embellishments. it’s fairly form-fitting at the top and flares more further down (medieval), but it’s got a very low neckline and an empire waist (regency), plus see-through sleeves and a long ribbon (disney, but the ribbon can be medieval if you’re being nice.) (it’s also very pink and has no apparent panels or seams, which is both disney and regency.) (plus her hair is down, which is solely disney and very impractical, but that’s a rant for another time)
the second dress, however, in silhouette alone, is an 1830s dress: it has a massive skirt and giant sleeve puff things, and the waist is more or less where the natural waist is. it was the 200s. i’ll let it slide. in colour (sparkly white) and cut of the skirt (weird off centre parting thing!! i really do hate that!) it’s very disney.
BUT by the time we’re at dress number three we are BACK to regency-style clothing, with short puffy sleeves and an empire waist and a low neckline. the ONLY thing that’s keeping this not solely a regency imitation is the panel(?) in the front of the skirt, which is much more reminiscent of pretty much every earlier period (except, funnily enough, medieval styles.) i guess also the neckline isn’t very regency-esque but the bra-cup-thing is a disney thing i assume.
(and then the next two dresses are kind of ugly. like the short one with the flowers? gross. waist should be at the natural waist and the skirt is too bell-shaped to look nice. the dress she wears to the ball? disgusting. abhorrent. i hate it so much i can’t believe that was the big reveal.)
WHICH BEGS THE QUESTION: what the FUCK period is andulasia meant to parallel? the answer is none of htem, obviously, as this is a disney movie and disney doesn’t do research. BUT if i can be pedantic (and i can) i’m going to look at the other clothes people wear there.
(sidenote: the dress nancy wears at the ball is prety much completely accurate for, like, what i think is the georgian era? in any case it’s got 3/4 length sleeves, a wide skirt at the hips, a flat low neckline and a crap ton of lace. basically it’s like the best thing in the movie it made me very very happy, even if it’s not the prettiest in colour)
okay so i was going to look at the evil queen’s dresses next and see if that told me anything but NOPE! cannot put a period on that if i tried. it’s just Evil™ bits. like it looks nice and she’s very cool but holy shit what is that
which leaves like three more possible routes to take: nancy at her wedding (pretty much exactly the same as giselle), edward, and nathaniel.
EDWARD i have no clue about, since i know next to nothing about men’s historical fashion, and also because i think they were just going for over the top sleeves with that one. NATHANIEL, however, i can get to a single decade based on the trousers alone (1650s). i’m not going to assume that’s completely correct, but if i were to make a broad guess i would say he’s vaguely early modern.
so where does that leave us? literally nowhere. i don’t know how hard it would’ve been for disney to choose a silhouette and stick to it? i really don’t. like the long loose dress is fine; the giant hoop skirt is fine. both of them together? with nathaniel fitting into neither of those time periods? horrible and awful. also it was made in the 2000s, which was the worst 10 years for fashion literally ever.

Is Dorne more Hispanic or South Asian? I've been told its more like Andulasia but I see Bollywood fancasts
West Asian, actually. GRRM says that the closest real life equivalent to Dorne is the Moorish influence in Spain. He also compares it to Palestine and goes on to use many elements that heavily overlap with MENA. @lyannas has a couple of excellent posts here and here that analyzes the Muslim and Arab influence in the depiction of Dorne. I highly recommend you read them but long story short, Dorne closely parallels MENA. India was never a part of the conversation at all. So the Bollywood actors thing is not accurate in the slightest and is actually upsetting on many levels (we’re not all interchangeable y’all) but I’ve learned to mostly ignore it, same as I’ve previously trained myself to ignore the fact that they keep casting Filipino actors for a story that is a part of fucking Arabian folklore. But that’s actually part of the problem because fancasts rely on existing material and Hollywood has a tendency to either cast white people in PoC roles, or cast any PoC they find as if we are monolith and our cultures and histories are all the same. South Asian actors play MENA characters a lot.

Catch up blog. Off to Lake Atitlan. It is a beautiful lake in the Guatemalan highlands. It is 130 Km2 and is surrounded by volcanos. Huxley of Brave New World fame called it the most beautiful lake in the world. It has all the beauty of Lake Como in Italy and also has the volcanos. The Atitlan volcanos are, for the most part, dormant. But of course we could see Fire belching smoke from around Antigua. We ended up staying in Santa Catarina Polopo village, which is about 6 harrowing miles from Panajachel, which is the largest city around the lake. Mostly we see small villages, little white or coloured villages that dot the high hills around the lake. They remind me of the white villages of Andulasia, Spain. Luckily we had booked a lovely resort facing the lake with a great restaurant, a swimming pool and a hot tub (not normal in this country) . Villa Santa Catarina was a great choice — until, of course, the festival started at the church up the hill. It was a holy celebration, a grand celebration that included decorating the church with fresh flowers, a band, a sound stage, and chairs set up in rows in the square in front of the church. And then there were the Bombas. That might not be spelled properly. But the bombas were fireworks that sounded like cannon shots. First there would be a Big Bang. We would cover our ears. Then there would be an extraordinary bang. Like a cannon next door. At first I was ducking. I was thinking we were being shot at. There would be a puff of smoke in the air. This went on until 10 pm . There were also smaller fireworks, but we were obsessed with the Bombas. Crazy. No one, other than the Canadians, thought there was any problem with these loud exhalations of joy or grief.
On the way back to Antigua we stopped to pick up our Quetzal bird which a man was making for us from Jade. What an experience to have the owner create the piece for us. Back to Antigua, with a quick stop at a Mayan site the name of which I have forgotten. And off to a cooking class. And wasn't that fun! We made tostadas with guacamole, radishes, and other such goodies. And a chicken stew with a green sauce. The sauce had all green things — onions, peppers, cilantro, green tomatoes which we chopped and then blended and then added to the soup. We toasted sesame seeds and red tomatoes on the wood stove, then added to the soup. The rice had many vegetables in it. The end result was a fresh green chicken soup, thickened with rice. Delicious. What a fun night. Wine and beer and a tiny little Mayan woman directing us.
First thing in the morning we leapt out of bed and went to ride an ATV up a mountain. As is common in many countries the helmets are loose and not secured. The visors are so scratched that we cannot see out of them. But we have a wonderful guide Geo. He speaks perfect English. Bestie questioned him. He learned it from TV. He watched TV with Spanish subtitles and learned the language. He has an American accent. Visits to a modern chocolate factory and a wine store. Hadn’t seen that before! Then we climbed to a spot where we could see Agua— Water. A huge volcano that has a history of gathering water in its crater then releasing it. We could sometimes see Fire and Acatenango. They make up the 3 closest to Antigua. And also Pacaya (the volcano we scaled). Fire throws out a puff of smoke several times a day. AT the top of the trip we left our ATVs as they would go no further and jumped in a 4 wheel drive truck and crawled up a narrow little road to come to Hobbitenango. Who knew? I thought Hobbit town was in New Zealand. But no. It’s at the top of a mountain in Guatemala and little Hobbit houses dot the hillside. Lots of hobbit games — like games of axe throwing, zip lining, archery etc… we did not partake but it was as cute as a button. And big. We had a wonderful meal in the kitschy little restaurant and then jumped on our truck and headed down to the ATV’s. Dusty and dirty but very happy. So much fun! Thanks to Geo! Our tour company Heart of Travel organized all of this. Sylvan, our guide, is such a help.

isn't dorne based on moorish spain when there was a significant northern african population rather modern spain? like clearly the stony dornish parallel the basque/pyrnees region, the sandy dornish castile and the salty dornish andulasia.
I covered that in my Dorne’s Not White essay.

Remembering Allama Iqbal at Mezquita de Córdoba [Cordoba Mosque]
Remembering Allama Iqbal at Mezquita de Córdoba [Cordoba Mosque]
I had immense honour to visit Mezquita de Córdoba [Cordoba Mosque], whose grandeur left Dr. Allama Iqbal to tears and he penned beautiful verses that glorify the muslim rule in Andulasia.
