DBH Prompt 001: An Emergency Substitute RK Unit

Some android takes a bunch of humans hostage and will only negotiate their release with an RK model because he's a fanboy with delusions. Wants to be the next Daniel but show off how he's better or something. Problem: Connor and Nines accompanied Markus to DC for some big android rights thing with Congress (60 stayed dead, or went with them, whichever), and there's no way to get them on the scene in time. Solution: They stuff a reluctant Gavin in a fake CyberLife jacket, give him a mic and wire connected to Nines to feed him lines, and convince the crazy guy that they have a top-secret infiltrator RK model that was made to pass as a human. Homicidal android fanboy buys it because all the RKs are classified to hell, and also they're badasses, so why wouldn't there be an infiltration one, too?

Bonus Points: Gavin has a prosthetic arm and deactivates the synthskin to "prove" he's an android, that's why they picked him over Allen or whoever. (This would probably tie in to the Kamski-is-his-brother trope.) OR Plot Twist: It's actually the truth. The jacket is real. Nobody knew.

Once upon a time I watched this movie, I watched it over and over. And to this day I still fall asleep watching it, It's My ultimate comfort movie. I used to watch this movie and daydream about finding a love like this, finding someone with that much patience and kindness and understanding, and I honestly was starting to believe it didn't exist, not for me anyway. And then surprisingly and suddenly I found exactly what I was hoping for. (Which in itself is kind of annoying because that's what every good romcom and every well-meaning person with advice will tell you, "it'll happen when you least expect it")

So here I am, continuing to rewatch my favorite movie, and it's completely mind-boggling to me that I found the love that I was looking for. I'm so thankful this movie exists, it gave me so much comfort for such a long time, just to see that amazing and gentle and healthy love exists is such a big deal ❤️

An engineer enters through the gates and into the precinct's bullpen, folder and pen in hand as they shout out to the room.

"Is there a Gavin Reed present?"

People's heads turn over to the person before one scruffy guy shoots his head up.

"What is it?"

The engineer walks over to Gavin's desk with a sort of...weirded out look?

"You are the RK900's partner, correct?"

Gavin stares st the engineer for a bit, trying to figure out if they were bringing in some news or if he had something on his face. "Uh, yeah? Fuck does that gotta do with me?"

Ignoring his crass words, the engineer continued. "We're going to be needing a few more hours with the RK900-"

"It's Nines, and why the hell are you hoardin' him for longer? Wasn't that check up service only for less than an hour? This guy was up and out yesterday." Gavin points his thumb over at Connor's desk, to which Connor started to pick up on the conversation out of curiosity.

"See, that's the thing. The RK800, otherwise known as Connor, had sustained minimal damage to his physical body. The RK900, or Nines as you refer to him as, does have damage to it."

"Huh??? What fu-"

And without shame, the engineer spoke perfectly clear and loud enough for the people around to hear well into what was going on.

"Nines does not have any physical damage to his external body, he however, does have injury in his voice box, alongside rust beginning to form in the crevices of his vocal cord. We had to further investigate on what had caused the rust and damage,"

They brought up their folder and took out a piece of paper.

"To paraphrase the notes made by the leading engineer, please refrain from engaging in vigorous intimacy with Nines as it can strain and cause ruin to the inner workings of his oral cavity and throat. On that topic, please refrain from letting him ingest any foreign fluid in copious amounts since it interrupts his ability to break down contaminates. His mouth is meant for forensic analysis, a feature meant to be used delicately. If you wish to continue your engagement, please do so in a gentle and safe manner."

Gavin was sat in his chair, bitting his bottom lip and a face full of furious blush. Not only that, but the bullpen had quiet down to take in what was just said to Gavin.

He then nods his head slowly, eyes averted to the floor instead, and spoke up lowly. "I understand."

The engineer just nodded their head as well and showed Gavin another piece of paper. "Please sign right here." He did so and then went the engineer to return back to the android repair center.

Gavin kept his eyes on his desk, staring holes into it with how intensely he was staring, desperately trying to ignore Tina and Chris' laughter from the distance and Connor's baffled face of horror and red LED from the corner of his eye.

I adore Android Gavin AUs, because somehow I watched all of the approximately five minutes that man was on screen and my brain went "OMG this is either a godawful metaphor for internalized homophobia and that man is a closeted robot, or else someone needs to District 9 that phcker like right yesterday."
