saw the national theatre live screening of present laughter today (incredible, showstopping, amazing, best performance ive seen out of andrew scott etc) but they ended it with fuckin. happy ending by mika. and the play isnt sad its the funniest thing ive seen in a while. but like. the ending is also Something. and like. happy ending by mika???? happy ending????? who chose that. if i'd seen it live i would have cried

I expected a deluge of emotion watching All of Us Strangers, but I was not prepared for the complexity of it. It really hits on so many levels... I don't know how to categorize anything I'm feeling right now. The film is a masterpiece. Don't wait to watch.

After six years of waiting (and wondering if it would ever come into fruition), Richonne's journey has finally came and went.

I could have never imagined how privileged I would be to have Richonne as my favorite ship. I could have never imagined getting everything I have ever wanted for this ship, especially in a series that was purely dedicated to said ship. Like do you know how lucky we are to have this happen for us when most people who ship characters in other shows don't even get their happy ending? AND to have the actors who portray said ship love the characters' relationship as much as the fans do? It's almost unimaginable. But we got it, and I couldn't be more thankful. I got my happy ending, and that's literally all I care about.

I have not taken a single L ever since 2015 when I first thought to myself while watching the show for the first time, "Hey these two characters work really well together. They have something special. I really hope they become a couple some day." I thought I was privileged enough to have my ship go canon, but what's extraordinary about all this is that it also went above and beyond everything I could have ever hoped for.

I want to give a huge thank you to Danai Gurira, Andrew Lincoln and Scott Gimple for loving Richonne as much as we do and dedicating their time and effort into not only concluding Rick and Michonne's story, but also making sure it was made special specifically for Richonners. Assuming this really is the conclusion to their story, of course. If it is I need to see Andy and Danai work on other projects together. It would be a shame if that phenomenal chemistry went to waste.

I am so so happy for and jealous of people who can see Andrew Scott and not instantly associate him with A Certain Show. It’s not that I don’t think he’s a phenomenal actor whose work speaks for itself. It’s just that he’s right up there with “plugging in my phone in the dark” in terms of concepts haunted by my dark past.

Last song I listened to: Weak In Your Light by Nation of Language

Last thing I read: I fell down a Cat Sebastian rabbit hole (all the blame goes to @voylitscope) and read her Cabot Trilogy (mlm romances set in the late 50s to early 70s, mostly in NYC) within a few days. Her books are a little fanfic-y in ways that I find both delightful and frustrating at times, but mostly I'm having a blast. I've now read four of her books and I'm starting to recognize certain recurring patterns when it comes to characterizations and romantic/sexual dynamics, but luckily it's the exact kind of stuff that I like, so I'm not getting bored yet.

Last movie I watched: All of Us Strangers, which worked for me more as an emotional experience rather than a movie, or a coherent story, but I think that was the intended effect. Absolutely phenomenal performance by Andrew Scott.

Last tv show: I'm currently watching Shōgun (excellent in every way) and Fallout (bonkers gory fun), and I finished 3 Body Problem (the good parts were good, the bad parts were almost laughably bad—I'm surprised I made it to the end, tbh). I also tried to watch Manhunt, the limited Apple series about the Lincoln assassination and the hunt for John Wilkes Booth, starring Tobias Menzies. "Tried" being the operative word here. I've made it through 3 episodes and it's just not grabbing me at all. Even worse, some of the narrative choices make me actively angry. I doubt I will continue. Next up: Ripley and yessss, Kings.

Last thing I googled: "iwtv season 2 release date" (It's May 12th!)

Last thing I ate: chocolate cookie

Sweet, salty, or savory: I mean all of them are good but if I have to choose: savory!

Sleep: Would love to get some. Or at least more than 3 hours at a time would be fantastic.

Currently reading: Dreamland by Adam Soboczynski, which I find entertaining as an anecdotal memoir, but I had hoped for more insightful commentary on the cultural tensions between East and West Germany post-reunification as seen through the eyes of a Polish immigrant. But maybe that's just a case of false expectations on my part, rather than a flaw of the book.

All of Us Strangers is a monumental film. Not only for gay men or for people like me who were kids in the 80s but for everyone who feels lonely in a city, who is missing a parent, and who thinks of the past with nostalgia for their family life. But yes, this film will shatter gay men and especially those who not only had to come out to their parents but had to do it during the 80s, at a time of AIDS and in a society on the brink of becoming what it is today, but not there yet. Thankfully, those kids had the 80s British pop music to turn to for solace. And thankfully for all of us, the director of this masterpiece, Andrew Haigh, was one of those kids. By turning inside to his own family trauma and even filming this at his old family house where he grew up as a kid, he has managed to create a piece of art that talks to the hearts of every human. Gay or not. Andrew Scott is phenomenal, as are all the actors. Paul Mescal, Jamie Bell, and Claire Foy. They give performances that will haunt you in scenes you'll carry forever. The cinematography is amazing, London feels real and magic at the same time. And the music, and those songs... My God. I grew up listening to the radio when Frankie Goes To Hollywood had their first top-10 hit. I never knew their songs would feel so powerful 40 years later. This is the most powerful finale in a movie in ages. One of the best films not only of the year but of the last decade. Don't miss it!

Y'all, if you haven't listened to the audible version of 1984 with Andrew Garfield and Andrew Scott.... DO IT NOW!

They are both such brilliant actors and the whump *whimpers* is sooooo good. I'm not a big audiobook person, but Andrew Garfield whimpering and getting tortured (it's incredible), Andrew Scott being a twisted villain, and the loyalty to the actual book is phenomenal.

So please go listen. You won't be disappointed.

aaaa i love this movie!!! might actually be my favourite right now!!! just beautiful cinematography and like all the topics of loneliness and love and family and grief. paul mescal and andrew scott gave phenomenal performances.

all the colors and the warmth of film camera!! they achieved so many amazing shots. I especially loved this shot and any shot with reflections!!

important questions following: should i watch angels in america. will i be emotionally devastated. should i do it all in one sitting or in chunks. is it a good idea to watch it with people or is it a better alone experience

ooh boy this is a doozy of a question that i'm very happy to answer!! here we go:

so there are a couple of versions of angels in america what with it being a stage play. there's a miniseries from 2006 (that i haven't seen but is apparently a pretty faithful adaptation) and there's also a bootleg with andrew scott that's quite popular. the one i watched was the 2017 ntl production with andrew garfield as prior walter which was absolutely phenomenal so obviously i will recommend that one. it's quite hard to find online if you're not able/willing to pay money to rent it but it is possible (i can help if needed :))

personally, i watched the whole thing in one go, but i'd understand if you don't wanna do that because it's about 7 hours in total and not everyone has the time of day in this economy. tho i do think watching both parts close together is good bc then you can really experience the scope of the thing in the way it was meant to be experienced. if you can i'd recommend watching part 1 earlier in the day, having a break (and also pausing during the intervals if you need to), and then watching part 2 later in the day, since if you saw it live that's what it'd be like.

i watched it alone because i didn't have a choice (all my friends were at university and i was at home 😔), so i can't really comment on that part. it's hard to say bc if you saw it live you wouldn't be like, turning to the person next to you and talking so... idk, but i will say once you finish it you immediately want to scream from the rooftops about it so maybe having a viewing buddy would be good. whatever floats your boat.

(though i will say the subject matter can be quite... heavy and maybe it's not for everyone. it's very existentialist and doesn't shy away from the homophobia of the 80s. viewer discretion and all that.)

and yes, you will be emotionally devastated but in like, a very cathartic way (that's how it was for me at least). it's such an amazing play and i highly recommend it and you do come out of it feeling like you've ascended and have a galaxy-brained understanding of the universe and such (maybe an exagerration, but it's a good feeling). so yeah :)
