Harry Potter Spells Tag
Hi guys!
I was nominated by @jadeyraereads, as was everyone else who watched her latest video... but hey ho I wanted to have a go!
1. Expecto Patronum: A childhood book connected to good memories
Tumblr media
The first one that comes to mind is Gingersnaps by Cathy Cassidy. In the first years of high school, so between the ages of 12 and 14, I loved Cathy Cassidy. This book in particular I just absolutely loved, I think I read it about 8 times. My high school took me to a Q&A session with her, where I managed to get my copy signed.
2. Expelliarums: A book that too you by surprise.
Tumblr media
For this I’m going to say Midnight Sun by Trish Cook. I saw that a film had been made of this book, but didn’t really have the confidence in it being an amazing book. It’s quite small and the cover wasn’t too enthralling, but wow I loved this book! I gave it 5 out of 5 stars and I even wrote a blog post all about it, which you can find here.
3. Prior Incanto: The last book you read.
Tumblr media
Well this one is easy. Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel; it’s the last book I read. I finished it yesterday in fact. I gave this book 2 out of 5 stars – it was a bit of a let down to me…. But more of that in my upcoming OWLs blog post.
4. Alohamora: A book that introduced you to a genre you had not considered before.
Tumblr media
I have always struggled getting into historical fiction in the past, but I recently read Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. I listened to it on audiobook and gave it 4 out of 5 stars, it was a really powerful story. I need to read a historical fiction as part of my OWLs so I’d say Salt to the Sea opened me to the experience.
5. Riddikulus: A funny book you’ve read.
Tumblr media
I don’t really like funny books, so I had to consult Goodreads for an idea to answer this question. I laughed at how bad How Hard Can Love Be? By Holly Bourne was… does that count?
6. Sonorus: A book you think everybody should know about.
Tumblr media
I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson. I LOVED this book. I read it in one sitting on my phone on holiday and ordered a physical copy to arrive on my doorstep when I got home. I will link the blog post here for you to see more of my thoughts.
7. Obliviate: A book or spoiler you would like to forget having read.
Tumblr media
I’d like to remove Nightshade by Andrea Cremer from my memory – I have no more words.
8. Imperio: A book you had to read for school.
Tumblr media
My favourite book I read for English Literature at school was The Woman in Black by Susan Hill. If you gave me my exam on this book again, I’m sure I could pass on the amount I still remember about the themes and symbolism…. Loved it! I’ve got this ready to read again for my NEWTs reading challenge (this might be some time coming, I have until the new year to read a LOT of books).
9. Crucio: A book that was painful to read.
Tumblr media
I read a lot of books when I’m away on holiday, normally reading a 400ish page book every day. But I took You Can Run by Steve Mosby which is only a small book, but it genuinely took me about 5 days to read. It was okay in the end, and I passed it to my mum who enjoyed it more, but it was quite a painful experience.
10. Avada Kedavra: A book that could kill (interpret as you will).
Tumblr media
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by, of course, J.K Rowling. I recently finished this book and I could definitely say, I wouldn’t want to be hit over the head with it. Just Jesus, what a book – it’s huge.
So that’s it, thats all the tags! As I mentioned, keep an eye out for my OWLs blog post, it should be with you soon!

One of the books I'm #currentlyreading is Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer. Not gotten too far yet - I'm prioritizing other reads - but I am enjoying it and I love the way these three novels complement each other :) #bookstagram #books #trilogy #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookworm #bibliophile #wolfsbane #nightshade #bloodrose #andreacremer #shapeshifter #wolves #beautifulcover

Holiday Reading
So I am back from my holiday and I had a very productive time reading. I read each of the nine books I planned to, and I also read an ebook that I managed to download. Below you will find my rating of each book, and a quick comment about why I gave it that rating.
1. Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver: 4 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. I completely didn’t see the HUGE plot twist in this book, which never usually happens to me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time reading it, and I’m going to hang on to it so that I have another chance to see the plot twist coming.
2. Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman: 1.5 out of 5 stars. This book has been on my TBR for ages so I really wanted to love it. I liked the characters, and the storyline, but there were major flaws for me. I feel like there are many books that manage the two groups of people in society with one having higher power, with no mention of how they happen to be classed. This book focused too much on race for me, which drew from the story as I got easily frustrated by the smallest pieces of the story.
3. Nightshade by Andrea Cremer: 1 out of 5 stars. This book actually made me angry. I was so disappointed in all of the choices made by Calla. She was such a stupid and unlikable character to me that I didn't enjoy the book. (I do have a spoiler-filled review on my Goodreads profile).
4. It Had To Be You by Ellie Adams: 3 out of 5 stars. I don’t really have much to say about this book. I enjoyed it, it was a cute summer romance read, but there was nothing additional to that for me. I found the characters really likeable and I was invested in the story. If I saw another Ellie Adams book in the charity shop again I would pick it up, but I don’t think I’d hunt her out as an author.
  5. The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa: 3 out of 5 stars. Definitely not the best vampire book around but I enjoyed my time reading it. I don’t really have much more to say about it; I liked the new idea of the world but there was nothing absolutely amazing about this book.
  6. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: 4 out of 5 stars. I wanted to absolutely love this book because of the hype it gets through Booktube/Bookstagram etc, but I didn’t love it quite that much. I really liked it, and I thought the concept was really cool, but the snippets of fanfiction and the books they are based off didn’t really do anything for me. I tended to skip them in the end unless Cath was reading them aloud, and I don’t think that detracted from the story at all. That being said this is going to be a permanent feature on my bookshelf for the foreseeable future.
  7. This Secret We’re Keeping by Rebecca Done: 3.5 out of 5 stars. I really liked this book, but there's just a couple of things that I'd wanted to be different, mostly with the actual storyline. I did like how the chapters were written, with present day Jess and past Matthew, it was easy to follow.
  8. You Can Run by Steve Mosby: 2 out of 5 stars. I branched out here and read something that I wouldn’t normally pick up. Not my cup of tea - but I did finish it. Passed it on to my Mum because I thought she'd enjoy it more than I did.
  9. I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson: 5 out of 5 stars. This was the ebook I picked up On finishing it I had to order a physical copy immediately. I absolutely loved this book - I thought it was entertaining and I loved the two perspectives of Jude and Noah. I will have to read this again to have some more profound thoughts on it.
So on that note, I did order some books to arrive on my return home.
Tumblr media
I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson.
Goodreads rating: 4.13
Number of pages: 429
As I previously stated, I read this book in ebook format while I was on holiday. I gave it 5 out of 5 stars and had to buy myself a physical copy.
Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Goodreads rating: 4.29
Number of pages: 525
If you haven’t heard of this book, where on earth have you been?! This has been on my Amazon wishlist since it became known on booktube and it was finally in a good deal when I purchased I’ll Give You The Sun so I had to grab it!
Scythe by Neil Shusterman
Goodreads rating: 4.35
Number of pages: 435
Again I’ve wanted to pick this book up for a while now. While I was purchasing a birthday present for a friend (which I won’t list here in case she sees it!) there was a good deal on adding a certain value of books so I made sure to pop this in here.
Perfect Chemistry by Simon Elkeles
Goodreads rating: 4.07
Number of pages: 368
I don’t really know too much about this book, but why not give it a try?!
That’s about everything from me now - remember to follow my Goodreads to see what I read, when I read it. I also have a Twitter account linked to this blog, which is @ChloeReadsBooks.

I BOUGHT MORE BOOKS (Charity Shop II)
Tumblr media
I bought even more books!! What is wrong with me?! I've just made my summer TBR, just selected my book for my monthly book club challenge... and then I buy five more books!
But, I did get them at a very good deal - 5 books for £5.09, and the money went to charity, so maybe I should feel good about myself. I feel bad for my bookshelf though, it's wobbling under the weight!
Tumblr media
1.  The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert
Goodreads rating: 3.66
So this is the book I'm most excited for. I've heard it recommended by so many Booktubers so jumped at the chance to buy it! I do prefer the US cover, but sadly this is the edition that's on offer to me.
Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice's life on the road, always a step ahead of the strange bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice's grandmother, the reclusive author of a book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate - the Hazel Wood - Alice learns how bad her luck can really get.
I am very very excited to read this book! It'll hopefully be sooner rather than later!
Tumblr media
2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J.Maas
Goodreads rating: 4.23
I am picking up my first Sarah J. Maas book, which seems to be too late! Everyone loves this author so even though I don't really know what this book is about, or if I'll like it, I better just follow the hype and see whats going on!
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Reading the synopsis doesn't make me feel overly confident about whether I'll like the book, but it's better to just give it a go!
Tumblr media
3. Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver
Goodreads rating: 3.59
Now we're moving on to the books I know nothing about, but they looked cool. When Dara vanishes on her birthday, Nick thinks Dara is just playing around. But another girl, nine-year-old Madeline Snow, has vanished, too, and Nick becomes increasingly convinced that the two disappearances are linked. Now Nick has to find her sister, before it's too late.
I think this sounded really intriguing. It's a bit of a mystery so I might leave it for a while and stick to lighter books, but it sounds entertaining nonetheless.
Tumblr media
4. Vendetta by Catherine Doyle
Gooreads rating: 4.03
With a fierce rivalry raging between two warring families, falling in love is the deadliest thing Sophie could do. An epic debut set outside modern-day Chicago.
I'm getting a nice Romeo and Juliet feel from this book - I really like the cover and think it looks like a really cute summer read.
Tumblr media
5. Nightshade by Andrea Cremer
Goodreads rating: 4.03
Calla Tor has always known her destiny: After graduating from the Mountain School, she'll be the mate of sexy alpha wolf Ren Laroche and fight with him, side by side, ruling their pack and guarding sacred sites for the Keepers. But when she violates her masters' laws by saving a beautiful human boy out for a hike, Calla begins to question her fate, her existence, and the very essence of the world she has known.
I have never ever heard of this book, but I'm very excited for it! It'll probably be left till much later in the year but it's excited me nonetheless. So that's that! I'll be sure to keep you updates on how these books go and post some little reviews up for them.

"People say that time slips through our fingers like sand. What they don't acknowledge is that some of the sand sticks to the skin. These are memories that will remain, memories of the time when there was still time left." 📖
