I WILL NEVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN- Jason Dean x Reader
TW: Violence, cheating, abuse (alcohol related), smut?, alcohol, drugging, using (using a person for something), bad mental health. (Also I may change to personal pronouns halfway through I apologise in advance.)
(I forgot to add in part 1 that this is set in current time LMAO sorry lads and that the way I’m imagining this is Jamie muscatos JD) Also I’m sorry if these are really short and not very well written 😭 Only experience I have with writing is essay writing when I was in secondary school… AND IF I ACCIDENTALLY SAY “mam” OR “lads” ITS BECAUSE IM IRISH AND I TEXT LIKE THAT SO ITS A HABIT SORRY 💀
Part 3
Part 2!
What did I really expect? That the super hot guy would completely ignore the pretty popular girl and go for a complete nobody like me? Pfft, don’t make me laugh. Veronica is gorgeous and I’m just bland. She’s popular and bubbly and I have like 4 friends and boring. She goes to party’s. I stay home and watch horror movies all night. Why am I surprised he likes her more? What I’m trying to say is IM JEALOUS. IM SO JEALOUS OF THAT GIRL. SHE WENT FROM LOSER TO LOVER ITS NOT FAIR.
After I left JD in the English classroom with Veronica I felt sick. Sick to my stomach. Like somebody just punched me in the gut and ripped it out.
I walked down the halls highly aware of everyone around me. I felt weird. Different. This can’t be normal. He’s just a teenage boy that I spoke to for half an hour.
A few seconds later I heard my name get called.
“Y/N!”
I looked back and saw half of my friend group waving me over.
We spoke for a bit before rushing off to 2nd period.
The class went by quick and next thing I knew I was sat at a table with my friend group in the cafeteria.
I was talking to my friend, Erica, and then heard obnoxiously loud laughing.
I turned to see who was making the annoying noise and was not surprised when I saw the 3 heathers and Veronica sat at the table watching Martha dunnstock open a letter and read it. The poor girl goes through hell because of them.
I watched as Martha got up and walked towards Ram Sweeney with the note in her hand. But before she got there Veronica swooped in front of her and started talking to her.
At least the girl has some sort of heart.
Martha then walked past Kurt and Rams table after a few minutes of talking to Veronica. The heathers were not happy.
I watch Veronica start to walk across the cafeteria back to the heathers.
Just then, when I turned around, I was greeted to J.D stood next to me at the side of my table.
“Hey”, he said with a small smile.
“Oh hey, how’s your first day going”, I replied politely with a small smile.
I seemed normal but inside I was screaming and felt like I was about to go bright red.
He was talking to me! He came to me instead of going over to attempt to get Veronica’s attention! Ohmigod Ohmigod OHMIGOD!
“It’s not too bad”, he said.
His gaze then slipped from me to somewhere else in the caf.
I looked to see where.
Of course, sawyer. It was so good to be true hey?
“Hey, what’s sawyers deal? Is she single?”, he asked.
I have two options.
I tell him the truth that Veronica’s single or..
I say she’s either dating someone or simply that I’m pretty sure she’s gay.
Ima go with the gay.
“Oh yeah I think she’s a lesbian”, I say trying to hide the giggle that’s trying to force its way out.
“Oh, right. That’s cool”, he says, clearly faking a smile.
I could tell her was disappointed but it’s giving me a chance I guess.
“Ya wanna sit here? There’s definitely enough room for you to sit here”, I say patting the bench next to me after moving up the bench a good bit.
“Oh, yeah sure”, he says with a tight smile.
I introduced him to my friends and then we went to talking about ms Fleming and her random bursts of energy in class.
Before I knew it the bell rang.
Fuck I have German.
“What’s your next class”, JD asked.
“German”, I said with a groan.
“Well it’s your lucky day because I have German too”, he smiles with a wink.
“Oh my god. Thank Jesus. Let’s go before Ms.Macy shits herself”.
I grab him and walk out of the cafeteria before Veronica can see him.
We spent the whole next class talking about movies.
Horror movies come up in the conversation.
“I can’t handle horror movies well”, I whisper to him.
“Awh come on they’re not that bad”, he whispers back with a breathy laugh.
“How bout after school today we go to my house and we watch one. Sound good?”, he asked.
IS THIS A DATE? No. You’re getting ahead of yourself Y/N calm down.
“Yeah I’m down. My moms working till pretty late anyways she won’t mind”, I say.
“Cool”, he replies with a smile.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The school day past quicker than I expected. And next thing I knew I was sat on the back of JDs motorbike. I looked around me. He hadn’t started to drive yet.
“You feel safe enough there?”, he asked.
“I guess..”, I said shifting myself a bit.
“Wrap your arms around my torso when we start driving. And grab on tight”, he said looking back at me with a smile. He gave me a helmet.
“What about you? Aren’t you gonna wear one?”, I asked.
“No. I’m fine. I never wear it”, he said.
I gave a breathy laugh in reply.
In the corner of my eye I could see Veronica staring over. I looked at her and gave her a wave (just to be petty) but made it look real.
She gave a tight smile and waved back.
“Get ready”, he said booting up the bike.
I wrapped myself around him. Tight.
I smiled against his back. It’s not creepy right?
We drove through town really fast and ended up at his house.
I texted my mom to let her know I’d be home later today.
Hopefully she’s in bed when I get home.. I cant put up with her on Friday nights.
MONDAY MATINEE MUSIC VIDEO “Visions” by Ryder-Desmond https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZv2fP0zh-k "Visions" is a New Wave power pop single, first issued on DJM Records in 1981 (remastered-reissued in 2023). Ryder-Desmond was Chris Andrews a.k.a. Kris Ryder + Andy Desmond. They’d been collaborating for a few years, and their combined careers intersected with Roger Daltrey, David Essex, The Kinks, and other notables. The Ryder-Desmond duo had obvious potential, and they worked well together on Kris Ryder’s 1979 solo LP, but as a duo they lasted for but one single (now highly collectible). Andy later became a musical yoga master and changed his name to Miten. Kris/Chris pressed on as a singer-songwriter and collaborator with Davy Jones (Monkees), and Chris is cranking out new music to this day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZv2fP0zh-k
Rookie Critic's Film Review Weekend Wrap-Up - Weeks of 5/8-5/14/2023 & 5/15-5/21/2023
My apologies for the review interruption over the past couple of weeks. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom came out and that has taken up all of my free time. HOWEVER, I have still be watching movies like normal, so here's a slightly condensed Weekend Wrap-Up for ya.
Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (2023, dir. Kelly Fremon Craig) This was wonderful. I already wrote a full review on it, so I won't gush any more about it here, but I have literally 0 complaints. Just a beautiful, fun, and heartfelt look at pre-adolescence and motherhood. A good time for all ages.
Score: 10/10
Only in theaters. You can read my full review of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. here.
Hypnotic (2023, dir. Robert Rodriguez) Robert Rodriguez sure knows how to write twists and turns in a plot. The directions that Hypnotic's story goes in were pleasantly unpredictable and exciting. Sadly, the film overall is very tonally uneven. It's got traces of Rodriguez's signature camp, but they're just that, traces. The movie as a whole tries to play itself a little more seriously than a plot this crazy requires, and it ends up overshooting the entertainment value into territory that feels a little disingenuous. Ben Affleck and William Fichtner, who really needs to be in more stuff, were both high points of the film, and the color correction on certain aspects of the movie felt really inspired. Rodriguez got the the look down to a T, I just don't think he quite stuck the landing.
Score: 6/10
Only in theaters.
BlackBerry (2023, dir. Matt Johnson) What an unexpected masterpiece of comedic historical dramatization, this was. The comedy was excellent, the acting was excellent, the stylizes cinematography was excellent. Everything about this film was engaging, fun, and satisfying. It's also, as a side-effect, incredibly informative. I haven't done the research into fact vs. fiction on this one, but if even half of the stuff that happened in this was true, what an absolute farce history of Research in Motion and the BlackBerry was, and I mean that in the most grateful, loving way possible. We wouldn't be where we are today without this little device, and as much of a clusterfuck as the history of it's existence seems to be, I'm glad we're here. This is easily one of the best things I've seen so far this year, and so far it seems to be flying severely under the radar. If you have a theater near you that's showing this, do yourself a favor and catch a screening of it and BUCKLE UP for a wild fun ride.
Score: 10/10
Only theaters. Plus, @prozdvoices was in it, which really makes it an 11/10.
Fool's Paradise (2023, dir. Charlie Day) I wanted this to be so great. I absolutely adore Charlie Day and when I heard he would be directing his first feature film with the cast that this movie has I got so excited. To its credit, the first half of the film is genuinely hilarious, an homage to Keaton/Chaplin-era physical comedy while exhibiting the beginnings of a biting satire on Hollywood, but somewhere in the middle of it all Day's script looses its footing and never really gets it back. The slapstick goes out the window, the comedy stops being funny and trades that in for bewildering, and the conclusion to it all ends up being wholly unsatisfying and, honestly, made the whole thing feel like a waste of time. If the second half had been anywhere near as good as the first, this would be a very different review, but it wasn't, so here we are. Better luck on the sophomore feature, Day.
Score: 4/10
Only in theaters.
Fast X (2023, dir. Louis Leterrier) I really don't understand the poor reviews this one is getting if other entries in this franchise have been well received. It's not without it's issues, as most of the FF films aren't, but it is still one helluva ride. I will say probably my biggest complaint with this one is that some of it just looks.... odd. Like the CG is whatever, I'm down with the shitty CG in these movies at this point, that's just part of the Fast & Furious charm, but there are shots that just look strange. I'm not really sure how to put it, like the foreground is at one FPS and the background is at another. Just very uncanny valley. It gives the film a look and feel to it that's unlike any of the other films, and in that way I wasn't a huge fan. That being said, the crazy car action is second-to-none and nearly non-stop, and the script handles the Family being split up for most of the film way better than past installments have with that same setup. This will most likely be my full-length come Wednesday, so I'll leave it there for now, but just know that, if you like this franchise, Fast X is going to give you everything you've come to love about it and expect from it.
Score: 7/10
Only in theaters.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie - (2022, dir. Andy Suriano & Ant Ward) This was watched as part of my college friend group's movie nights at the request of a friend whose birthday was coming up. I've never seen the show and don't really know anything about it past what I've been told by said friend and just my general TMNT knowledge (although this iteration of the heroes in a half-shell is very different than what most people would be used to). It was genuinely wonderful. The animation was spectacularly breathtaking (seriously, I can't hype up how gorgeously animated this film is), and the story, as Days of Future Past-y as it was, felt very fresh. The personalities of the Turtles are different from the original, but it's all a very welcome change. Raphael and Leonardo are practically flipped, with Raph taking on the "big brother" role that's normally occupied by Leo and Leo taking on the "aloof and antagonistic" role that's normally occupied by Raph. Donatello is more or less the same, a genius idiosyncratic inventor, but in this version he canonically has autism, which is represented well and the laughs that come from his character are never at the expense of his disorder. Similarly, Michelangelo is basically the same as his original counterpart (even moreso than Donnie), but in this story he canonically has ADHD. All of their clashing personality types meld together so well, and the chemistry between them is even more infectious, I would say, than the original versions of the characters. They could not have nailed what makes the central four brothers work, while also giving audiences a entirely new central four at the same time, than they did. As far as the villain of the film goes, the way the Kraang (who are depicted here as an entire race of creatures) are represented here is truly unsettling and almost in a Cronenberg/Lynch vein that I absolutely loved. RotTMNT: The Movie drops in you into its world, doesn't mince words, and gets you out of there in a cool 86 minutes, and it was a stellar time. I will, without question, be checking out the show as a result. If you're the kind of TMNT fan that's receptive and open to different takes on this world and these characters, then you'll love this.
Score: 8/10
Currently streaming on Netflix.
STILL: A Michael J. Fox Movie (2023, dir. Davis Guggenheim) This has got to be one of the most unique and intriguing documentaries I've ever seen. The way Fox's story is told here is stunning, using a mix of modern narration, dramatic re-enactment, and archival footage (acting as both legitimate archival footage and as a narrative device at separate times) to accent and highlight the actor's life in the most poignant, striking way possible. Fox himself has such an electric personality it's hard not to fall in love with him over the course of the film's 95 minutes (that is, of course, if you weren't already in love him before). I read somewhere that there's nothing particularly revelatory about STILL, but I beg to differ. I'll admit, showing the portrait of a man's life who had it all, had taken the world by storm and was running away with it, only to be knocked down in his prime by something wholly out of control isn't anything too new. However, what makes STILL work, and what sets it apart, is that the story doesn't stop there. Fox refuses to give up. He's not fooling himself at the reality of his situation with Parkinson's, but he remains hopeful, he remains vivid, and he remains electric. Fox refuses to quit, to back down from his life, and is actively maintaining any control he can still have over it. It's inspiring and heartbreaking all at the same time, one never replacing the other, both coexisting in every moment, and that's not a particularly easy thing to pull off. I was quite taken by this, and urge all with access to check it out.
Score: 10/10
Currently streaming on Apple TV+.
An iconic song refrain.
Some interesting background information about the song (mostly Wiki):
The song was composed by British songwriters Chris Thompson, Andy Qunta and Maggie Ryder in response to an anti-nuclear demonstration in London's Hyde Park in 1985.
Chris Thompson intended to attend the rally, but he overslept. (More than 100,000 people attended the rally.)
As his 'penance' (for missing the rally) he decided to compose a song emphasising the importance of personal choices/volition for political change.
Chris Thompson knew the singer John Farnham (as the teen idol Johnny Farnham), but was doubtful he could do justice to the required singing.
John Farnham at that time was in heavy debt ('very bad business decisions'). He had sold his house and car to pay debts, and was living in a rented house.
Hearing the demo, John Farnham knew this could be a make-or-break moment for his career.
In his basement, he recorded the song, changing the bass (from the demo) for bagpipes.
The song was heard by many studio executives and refined/improved every time.
BUT no label was ready to release the album, nor were radio stations keen to play the song, because of his "Johnny Farnham" image (he was a teen pop idol in his early years - 1967 to 1979). See Johnny Farnham's 1967 UK song Sadie (the Cleaning Lady): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0c55lXRAeg
It was ultimately released by his talent manager's (Glenn Wheatley's) label Wheatley Records in 1986 as a single before the album release.
Whispering Jack eventually went 24× Platinum, with sales of 1.68 million in Australia alone.
It was the third-highest-selling album of all time in Australia as well as the highest of any Australian artist.
Whispering Jack outsold The Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in Australia. (Source: https://facts.net/celebrity/22-astonishing-facts-about-john-farnham/)
It was the first Australian-made album to be released on compact disc within Australia.
Funny: Australia gave him the Australian of the Year award/honour in 1987. At that time, he wasn't an Australian citizen (I guess they didn't know, since he was around for so long). He (quickly) became an Australian citizen in 1988. [Had to dig on and on for 2 hours to verify what I had read years back. All chat AI initially only says he was already an Australian citizen.] And No - it doesn't change anything about him or the award. Respect.
A lot more trivia here: https://www.nfsa.gov.au/latest/interesting-facts-about-john-farnham
Completely unrelated: This wild goose chase on You’re the Voice started with the intent to find out more about Brett Garsed’s music.
Lyrics:
We have the chance to turn the pages over We can write what we want to write We gotta make ends meet, before we get much older
We're all someone's daughter We're all someone's son How long can we look at each other Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it Make a noise and make it clear Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo We're not gonna sit in silence We're not gonna live with fear Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo
This time, we know we all can stand together With the power to be powerful Believing we can make it better
Ooooh We're all someone's daughter We're all someone's son How long can we look at each other Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it Make a noise and make it clear Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo We're not gonna sit in silence We're not gonna live with fear Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo
Ooooh We're all someone's daughter We're all someone's son How long can we look at each other Down the barrel of a gun?
You're the voice, try and understand it Make a noise and make it clear Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo We're not gonna sit in silence We're not gonna live with fear Oh-wo-wo-wo, oh-wo-wo-wo [4x]
Fellow Travelers (Pilot Review) | Love in the time of...Obstacles
I finally got to it and boy oh boy did #FellowTravelers managed to surprise me. #JonathanBailey and #MattBomer are amazing in this show and there's a subtle jock in the pilot that I like. #TVSeries
Okay, I’m just going to explain about the Siren Malcolm thing here. It’s kinda cringe so be forewarned about that.
My ex (still friends) and I were talking about Malcolm on discord and I brought up the idea of sirens because we do know Malcolm has powers at least according to Julian about persuasion (at least that’s the way I interpreted it but I also trust Julian about as far as I can throw him) for reference look up Andy’s second voicemail to Malcolm (I believe it’s the second one he sent) and we got to talking about it and thus Sirens Malcolm was born.
Does anyone have some cool theories, or wanna info, dump about a voice from darkness? I just wanna hear somebody rant about it
Do you have any headcanons about Michael Yew's mortal family?
*cracks knuckles*
Oh boy do I. I've been hinting at it in a few fics now and it will continue to be mentioned/explored in future fics, but I have an entire thing constructed around his family and I have yet to be able to just dump it all so as you asked so nicely... here goes!
[warning here for abusive relationships and child abuse, sorry Michael]
Okay, so, Michael is the eldest child of one Tracey Ryder née Yew. Tracey is a nurse and does love her son, let's make sure that's out there, she just... didn't always do the right thing, and her husband didn't help (read: she ended up stuck in an abusive relationship, Simon Ryder did not like Michael, Tracey didn't manage to protect Michael).
Tracey and Simon met when Michael was a toddler and that was basically the beginning of the end of Michael's enjoyable childhood with his mother. I haven't settled on Simon's job yet but I'm tending towards cop, which is its own warning, I think.
Michael and his stepfather Simon hated each other right from the start, to the point that when Tracey married Simon when Michael was four, it was unanimous between the two of them that Michael wouldn't be changing his surname to Ryder, instead keeping Tracey's maiden name of Yew.
Tracey and Simon had a further three kids together - Jenny Ryder was born out of wedlock, two years younger than Michael, and then there were the twins Ellie and Andy Ryder two years after that, and then Tracey had one more kid that everyone thinks is also Simon's, called Tommy Ryder (he is not Simon's son, but even Tracey believes he is until he turns eleven and ends up finding his way to a certain camp, but that is a different story and right now all I'm saying is no, he is not Michael's full-blooded brother, and he doesn't make it to camp until a few years after Manhattan).
Simon fully encouraged his own children to pick on their older half-brother. Michael was subjected to much pushing, shoving, hair-pulling etc. from his younger half-siblings, which got worse as they got older and Michael ended up shorter than first Jenny, and then the twins. The fact that he healed unusually quickly was simply considered a bonus by Simon - most bruises disappearing overnight meant there's no evidence, and sometimes it wasn't just the kids doing the hitting.
Any attempts Tracey might have made to protect Michael from this quickly died out against Simon; she made half-hearted attempts to stop her other children when Simon wasn't around, but they listened to their father over her and didn't back down easily.
Michael spent most of his free time hiding up trees, using his size to escape to the highest branches - while he never came face to face with a dryad, the guy in his dreams all the time who was always nice to him and promised he didn't deserve the way he was being treated had suggested he ask trees' permission before climbing, and the dryad of the tree in his back garden was delighted by the tiny demigod child asking if he could hide in their branches and also unimpressed at how he was being treated. Word spread, and trees became safe places for Michael.
Eventually, when Michael was nine, he reached breaking point and ran away - encouraged by the guy in his dreams, who gave him a few suggestions that ended up uniting him with a satyr to bring him to camp. Tracey did try to look for her missing son, but Simon considered it more or less good riddance, figured he was dead in a ditch somewhere, and got the searches stopped as early as he could. It's notable here that Simon never knew that Michael's biological father is Apollo (he assumed his father was a waste of space that ditched Tracey), and while Tracey did, and was also aware of the existence of Camp, it never occurred to her to ask Apollo for help, or to take Michael to camp early, having originally been told by Apollo that kids went there when the monsters started coming for them when they started puberty and didn't realise she could send Michael there earlier - and perhaps there was also an element of selfishness where she didn't want to let Michael go, either, even though it would've been best for him.
They never found out that Michael didn't die then (or, later, what happened in Manhattan). When Tommy made it to camp, Michael was just a name on a bead so maybe he knew the name as a camp hero, but he never made the connection with Michael's surname and his mother's maiden name.
Jenny was the only one old enough to really remember Michael (or Mickey, as they called him) as she grew up, and got somewhat of a reality check when he disappeared, presumed dead/written off as dead by her father. She started acting out in school instead of at home, which caught teacher attention and with their help she grew out of the bullyish behaviour Simon instilled in her (the lack of a target helps, as did the sudden realisation that with Michael gone, she was now the eldest and they'd been taught to pick on the eldest... her relationship with the twins was never the best after that). As an adult, she ended up going into teaching herself (elementary-level) and was well-loved by her students - and made sure to move a few states away from her parents.
The twins were vaguely aware that they once had an older brother who died, but were only five at the time, so they forgot most of the details about him over time. Unlike Jenny, they didn't get a big wake-up call, so while they didn't grow up as bad as their father, they didn't really recognise how bad he was to them as well as their siblings, and even as adults didn't move too far away from their parents.
Tommy was only one when Michael left, and had no memories of him at all. He grew up not knowing he ever had two older brothers instead of one (and then he finds his own family on the other side, and Simon was not impressed at having a changeling child, although Tommy was still a summer camper and came home during the school year. Tracey took the brunt of Simon's wrath over that, despite the fact she never knew Tommy wasn't his until the monsters came. She still never admitted to Simon about Michael's parentage, even after Simon learnt about Tommy's - and hated/was disinclined to believe it - but listened to Tommy's stories of camp with bittersweetness, because she knew Michael would've loved it there, and never knew that he did, in fact, make it).
Michael, for his part, cut his mortal family out entirely. As far as he was concerned, he had no siblings of any sort, nor a step-father, and avoided mentioning his mother whenever he could, too. When he made it to camp, he was incredibly defensive, especially when he discovered he had more half-siblings, given his prior experience with half-siblings, but the Apollo cabin worked hard to welcome him into their family and once Michael finally believed them enough to let down his walls, became the amazing, protective big brother that Simon denied his younger half-siblings of having, although Michael never really let in anyone outside of the Apollo kids.
So... yeah. Not the nicest of backstories for poor Michael, but still one I've spent a lot of time building (and it does have variations depending on my various Michael lives AUs as well - in occasional AUs, Michael and Tommy meet through/because of camp, and in one he actually reunites with Jenny!).
4th Anniversary of The Eye on the Galaxy
Released four years ago on Christmas Day, this is the one fan fiction of which I’ve become rather proud. Not only does it transition nicely between Season 2 and the still-sitting-on-the-shelf-because-the-higher-ups-assumed-nobody-was-interested-in-more-episodes Season 3, but it gives many side characters a chance to shine, even those who haven’t spoken since Season 1. I already have a background made for it. I’ll get around to making a visual for the shorts… eventually.
Just to recap, here are the shorts, their summaries, and the featured interviewees. The ones in bold were seen in The End of the Galaxy while the ones italicized remain unclear. Whoever has an asterisk (*) may be hidden in the crowd even though we cannot see them.
So there you have it.
Of course, I’ve yet to know exactly who would be on the formerly secret planet and climb aboard the Star Nomad. That’s why I wish to share this information with Craig McCracken himself and gather anything that only he and the crew would know. In case you haven’t guessed by now, he has an account on Bluesky. As long as the fandom thrives, we’ll learn something new about WOY in the future. What could be more exciting?
And with that, happy holidays!
