I'm not very active on tumblr much these days, but as a Gundam fan I should probably pop in to talk about GQuuuuuuX. Because I sure have some opinions on it.

The basic overview is that I think the show had a very interesting framework. But everything was so rushed that I found it all to be very shallow, and I didn't enjoy it as a result. It especially hurts in my case because Beginning and the early episodes really drew me into Machu, Nyaan, and Shuji, and they were the part of the show I was most interested in. Unfortunately they felt completely overshadowed by all UC stuff in the 2nd half, which did not interest me anywhere near as much. That said, there are two things from the finale that I'm particularly upset by:

1. Bringing back Furuya as Amuro.

I don't care that production on the show started before his behavior came out. I don't buy any of the excuses. Bringing him back was an awful mistake, full stop. He confessed to his actions long enough ago that even if his line was recorded before hand, there has been plenty of time to recast and re-record one line. Having him there is a black mark against the show.

2. The Machu x Shuji Confession.

You can go through my post history on bsky and see that I never expected GQ to be yuri. In fact, you can find me rooting for the polycule more than anything. But damn, was the het absolutely terrible. Machu's attraction to Shuji is completely one-sided, and they don't even see each other for half the show. There is even a whole moment in the final episode that built up to "Shuji loves Lalah." It all perfectly clicked into place. And then it's like someone burst into the writing room and shouted "NOOOOOO! You have to make Shuji get with one of the girls, or people might think it's gay again!" What follows is a completely out of left field kiss and love confession, none of which felt remotely earned.

Meanwhile, the relationship between Suletta and Miorine was the core of G-Witch's story. They share multiple moments of mutual affection throughout the show. They end the show married. And yet, they couldn't kiss on screen. They couldn't directly say the words "I love you" to each other. By all accounts the staff were handicaped by Bandai in how they were allowed to depict Sulemio's relationship. And while the staff did succeed at making it textual, they had to get creative to do it.

In any other context I would say "Ah, forced het because he's a boy and she's a girl. Must be a day ending in Y." But to get served that right after G-Witch? After all the hoops Sulemio had to jump through? Yeah, I'm a little insulted here.

Sapphic romances work so hard and can be so good, they can be the core theme of the story. And they still get less than the most lazy and uninspired het romances in media. And make no mistake, bigots will be tripping over themselves for years to say that Machu and Shuji getting a kiss and "I love you" makes it a better/more legitimate relationship than Sulemio.

I don't outright hate GQuuuuuuX. Like any Gundam series I don't like, there are still things I enjoyed. Nyaan, Shiiko, Deux, the Gyan and GFreD, the animation, the ED and the fact Machu & Nyaan live together after the finale. Conch, my precious robot crab son, who I'am so proud of. Hell, I'm still talking about it over two days later, something I can't say about other recent Gundam entries I didn't like (Metaverse, RfV, Silver Phantom). But this entry missed the mark for me.

On a personal note, I am so glad that this got delayed and Suletta was our first female MC. Suletta was such a great starting point for female MCs: she felt like the main character of her own show (a show actually centered around women!), and her personality and motivations didn't revolve around a boy. And GQuuuuuuX had far far more misogyny problems than G-Witch; they wanted to make a show about a female Gundam MC and they failed Machu in just about every way. Considering Gundam's often problematic issues relating to it's female characters throughout the franchise, Suletta feels like a miracle, and we somehow dodged the bullet of first female MC being plagued by those exact same issues.

Hugs you whenever you are upset, pestering you with little kisses on the face to the point you just get annoyed by it and forget about what originally made you upset, and now you are smacking his face instead. He will laugh it off and take you to eat or drink something to cheer you up.

Anaxagoras

Will take you on a ride with Dromas!1!1!

On a serious note, you will be the only one allowed to call him Anaxa without getting scolded. He will also try not to be too harsh on you.

There will be times when he regrets things he said since that literally shaped you into having a sassy mouth like him.

Anaxagoras will sometimes consult Cerces on how to deal with a younger sibling, especially when the two of you get into a fight. Needless to say, the titan of knowledge likes to be on your side most of the time.

You often like to read a fashion magazine, quietly marking stuff you wished to buy when you get the time. Anaxa knows about this habit of yours, and he will buy the stuff you want without you knowing, leaving you confused about how these things came into your room.

He also lets you study things you like. He learned to hold his mouth whenever you came to ask about something; after all, making you upset over something he accidentally said out of habit is the last thing he wished to do.

When in Okhema, Anaxa would take you to see Dromas together. From feeding them and riding on them together around the city. Though the two of you rarely exchange words, you can feel both you and him enjoying each other's presence while the soft wind washes through your hair.

Mydeimos

Though not the best at teaching, Mydei tried his best to teach you Kremnoan Language, alongside it's now lost tradition. He specifically teaches you some ��things’ to call Phainon.

Commissioned a matching earring for you to wear so people will know both of you are related.

If Phainon is the type of brother who will let you sit on his shoulder as the two of you walk through the city, Mydei is the type to hold you closer to his chest. It calms him to be able to feel the warmth of your body and to watch your eyes curiously gazing at the scenery of the place.

He would go to Castrum Kremnos just to retrieve some books for you. He even goes as far as to ask Trailblazer to help him so he can teach you all about the fallen city.

Talk to you in Kremnoan Language whenever it's just the two of you.

He teaches you how to fight, yes, but he will also scold you if you were to just pick a fight without a reason. He keeps reminding you that a true warrior holds virtue and is wise about their situations, not easily swayed by emotions. And after scolding you, he'll carefully caress your hair and apologize for being too harsh, then promise to bake you something sweet to eat after dinner.

After a long day and pay day coming you decided to treat yourself and buy a lot of new make up. You couldn’t decide what lipsticks look best. So you decide to try them out with your fellow ghost partner.

Mr.Crawling:

At first he was confused at what you brought home. usually you bring some food home. But what are this new objects.

“Lipstick” sounded weird and looked funny. Is in fact not edible. :(

You put it on and the color appears on your face?? Very cool!

“This make me look pretty?” He always thinks you’re pretty! “Always pretty!” You look away from your mirror.

Then you tried another color! “This more pretty?” He was thought they both look beautiful on you. You giggle a little at his confusion.

You kiss him on the cheek with the lipstick. It seems it isn’t transfer proof as it claims.

You try another lipstick on. Another kiss on his nose. How can this claim their transfer proof if they still transfer!!

Many more lipsticks in different shades later and a Mr.crawling smitten after all the kisses later.

You laugh at how silly he looks and show him the mirror.

“Me many kisses you” you point out. He just giggles in adoration “many more me desire!”

Turns out it was transfer proof lipstick you just didn’t let it dry properly.

He has lipstick stains on his face even after removing the prints.

Loves ever second of attention from you.

Wants to return the favor and put lipstick to kiss you all over your face!

Mr.Scarletella

He sees you with a bag in hand. You pull out a tube. He usually seem you put it on after every body you dropped in his territory. But now he can see if up close

“Lipstick” you show him the tube. It’s the same color as his coat. He loves matching colors with you.

Conditioning him by accident. For ever you pretty a kiss with a different shade lipstick. His face was covered in kiss marks he loved ever second of it. You showed him his reflection. He loved it

Dose not want to take it off.

You kissed him. It’s showing your together. He likes you. You kissing and getting close is you two being together.

You end up taking the stains off unwilling to his dismay.

Every time he sees you pulling out lipstick he says “You pretty.” and waits for his kiss all while leaning down to you level.

His wrapped around your finger. Anything for a kiss. anything.

However don’t play with him he dose not like to be played around like that. He will stand on business.

Mr.Gap

He thinks it’s interesting. He has painted nails! He has been more times in the human world then another of the the other ghosts.

“This pretty?” You show him the color. He shrugs. He dosnt really care. “Can kiss you?”he doesn’t understand kisses; all he knows is that it makes him special. He likes to be special to you.

This man doesn’t understand or claims he doesn’t feel romance but also want to be special only to you.

His just staring at you letting you perform the “kiss”

After the first kiss he stared at you and then disappears.

Comes back after a bit of time.

“Again” you do it again and he disappears

3-4 more times of the same thing before he stays there and lets you continue kissing his face all over

He says he doesn’t understand or maybe he doesn’t want to.

He just likes being special to you.

He is crusty will try his best to keep the lipstick marks. You will have to force him to remove them.

Will trade your stuff for a kiss, not often but will settle for a kiss if you don’t want to give your heart

I HAVE BEEN READING ZDARSKY BATMAN, AND I HAVE DECLARED: I FREAKING LOVE IT!!

I'm reading the Batman Zdarsky run in reverse. That way if I see any bull I can back out at anytime: and to be honest--besides a few things. I really enjoy it

LIKE YO, THAT IS JUST STRAIGHT UP TIM DRAKE RIGHT THERE. It knows who he is as a character. his motives, it's great.

Screw the people complaining "oh why is tim still robin :((", THIS IS WHY HE IS STILL ROBIN. Because this is when he's at his BEST. When he gets to hit his character purpose, WHEN HE GETS TO BE HIM AT HIS MOST HIM. It's FANTASTIC.

Reading in reverse because I know I hated the first story, it was so contrived and ridiculous.

But this--this is some good shit.

Tim being an underdog fighter, having to use his wits to win the fight? MY DAWG, MY DUDE, MY GUYS, MY GALS, MY THEMS, MY THEYS, THIS IS SO TIMMY DRAKE. This is so damn Tim Drake, guys. Oh, my gosh, I am loving this so far.

Dick has his temper back? And trust me, he isn't normally like this. But he's hitting a limit AND IT'S SOMETHING NEW, NOT JUST A REFERENCE. HE'S ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING HE'D DO, 'CAUSE HE'S AT HIS LIMIT. That's wonderful, man. That is so wonderful.

Plus Tim is the heart of the Bat-Family again? This feels like someone actually went back to read these characters before writing it. I'm not saying everything is perfect of course, but these high marks are exceeding all my expectations. And I STOPPED reading comics because of how the beginning of this run destroyed any hope I had.

You guys have no idea how much I'm enjoying the few issues I've read. Besides the cussing (I remember after a bit they decided Tim was someone who used funny words instead of proper cusses), this feels like the Tim I know and love during the era I especially loved him.

Tim comparing himself to his predecessors? Tim not being a natural? A WRITER REMEMBERING THAT?? It's been so long since I've seen that! Most writers treat him like he was another prodigy when he wasn't. AND THIS GUY REMEMBERED THAT!

I shouldn't be so happy at just seeing Tim do Tim things, and serving his character purpose. BUT YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IT'S BEEN SINCE A WRITER KNEW WHAT TIM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE.

Only complaints I have is that Jason feels like a typical Bat-Family member, and not the sketchy outsider that he is. Making him so close makes his character more bland in my opinion. And Steph is--also generic af unless she's wacky quirky...which is a characterization I hate for her, because she started off so damn interesting, but they made her a freaking trope instead, which is such a disservice to her, but she barely does anything so far, so whatever I guess. Doesn't mean much.

This is the first honest thing I've seen that I hated.

They're not a sitcom. The conflicts, and uniqueness of the characters is what makes things feel alive and well.

This stuff is cheap fanservice for the fanon demographic that doesn't buy comics to begin with.

Fanon doesn't belong in canon.

I mean sure Tim could be drawn smaller, the gag of him looking 12 when he's nearly 18 doesn't work when he's bigger than Damian who is 15 (and contrary to some bullshit comics isn't meant to be small. that was a random thing added for writers who aren't clever to write better humor. it actually contradicts things that were already established).

Don't see the big deal though for most of this.

Can't wait to find it, though. Oh boy.

This whole obsession with Zur Batman, is way over done though. So--I wouldn't be shocked if that was the problem, because my golly does that plot point not seem to be stopping--and it was there from the start and part of the reason why I didn't read it 'til now.

Good Tim tho, at least. So heehee, yey for that--I think--I guess.

Oh, well.

It let me peak at a pseudo-version of an AU I made up years ago. So that's pretty freaking cool.

Always a plus.

And redoing Red Robin story beats but better? Normally I'd hate references to Red Robin, 'cause that changed the perception of so many characters for the worst, but ayy, a bit of redemption isn't bad.

Man, just seeing simple stuff like Tim and Bruce being good ol' classic Batman and Robin warms my heart. It's been so long since Batman and Robin has acted like a proper classic Batman and Robin. It's dynamic that's been sorely missed by many.

OH, MY GOSH, WHY DID THE FIRST STORY HAVE TO STINK SO BAD. THIS STUFF IS GREAT.

Like, DUDE, this is such a Tim thing for him to do!!

And he's showing emotion?? He's crying like how he does?? Because he's not a typical Bat-Family member who just angsts his way through?? THEY'RE MAKING HIM STAND-OUT AGAIN BY MAKING HIM, HIM??

WHY DID THE FIRST STORY HAVE TO SUCK SO BAD?? THIS IS GOOD SHIT.

Like this part is why I originally stopped reading, not because Bruce should think Tim is his soldier, and not his son, THE FREAKING OPPOSITE.

But because the original story has Bruce acting weird when unneeded, just to say this was so unneeded, and adding in all these stupid corny Bat-Family moments was so groan worthy.

This run started off with a story that was a total turn off for me.

To end up being a run that could've kept me enjoying DC, rather than running away from it from as far as I have.

Chip Zdarsky started off awful, but really, he ended up great.

And I've seen people complain about his run, and TRUST ME, there's stuff to complain about. But I have only ever seen the stuff worth complaining about, or stuff I WOULD complain about.

WHEN MOST OF THE RUN IS GOOD

At least when Tim is around.

Go figure.

Maybe I should've paid sole attention to how he wrote Tim and nothing else at the very least for that first story.

'Cause even in the first story, Tim was well-written--it's how cheap the rest of the story telling was in that first story that turned me off--and the weird knew about the movie plans that I am still fully judging harshly. (Love the new Superman film suit, though)

SDV QoL Mod Recommendations

(1.6 Edition!)

Some years ago I made a big list of some of my favorite Stardew Valley mods, because I am a mod gremlin and there are so many fun and cool things you can do with your game! Modding has changed a lot since then. Some of the old mods have been abandoned and aren’t compatible with 1.6, and lots of new ones are popping up all the time to help keep this 8 year old game fresh and interesting! So I’ve put together a list of mods that currently work with 1.6. Since there are so, SO many mods, I’m just going to list quality of life mods for now. Let me know if you guys are interested in recommendations for expansions, cosmetics and other fun stuff!

Firstly, if you’re new to Stardew modding and don’t know how to start, I highly recommend checking out Salmence’s How to Add Mods video on YouTube. He walks you through all the steps and makes it very easy to get the hang of it! And without further ado:

The Mods

UI Info Suite 2: I’m new to this mod, but now that I’ve got it, I’m not sure how I lived without it! It does so much! It shows your daily luck, any birthdays, if it’s going to rain tomorrow, when tools are ready with Clint, when the traveling cart is in town and more! It also shows the range of your sprinklers, scarecrows, bee houses and junimo huts, and if you mouse over your crops, it shows when they’re ready for harvest! Super useful, and the daily icons are small enough that they don’t feel intrusive. I usually get all my mods from Nexus because it’s easy and reliable, so I had put off trying this one since it’s only on GitHub. I absolutely should have tried it ages ago.

NPC Map Locations: Shows where everyone is on the map. No more running around trying to figure out where someone is to give them a birthday gift! This is an essential mod for me, it’s such a simple but good improvement!

Look Up Anything: This one basically eliminates the need to have the wiki open in another window. Virtually everything in the game can be clicked on to give you more information. Mouse over Shane and press a button to see his birthday, how many hearts he has and how many points to the next heart, and all loved and liked items (with items you have on hand highlighted!) Select the hardwood in your inventory to see how many you have total (including storage you don’t have on hand,) everything it can be used for and how many you need for each thing, so you know how many you need! Almost everything can be selected to give more information!

Visible Fish: Useful AND pretty! It shows all the fish currently available to catch swimming in the water, so you don’t spend ages trying to catch something that doesn’t spawn at a certain place or time! Also it just looks really nice. I love seeing the fish in the river when I’m just passing by!

FriendsForever: Eliminates friendship decay, so people don’t hate me if I forget to talk to them for half a year! Also works on animals, so I can ignore my pigs all winter and they still love me.

To-Dew: You can make a to-do list that will appear on the screen and can be marked off as you complete different tasks. No more will I take a trip to town for seeds and forget that I also wanted to donate to the museum and give Caroline a daffodil! You can also set items to be reoccurring on certain days of the week, if you want to remind yourself to look for forage on Saturday, or make Thursday your designated day to empty and refill your kegs. Very customizable! I also like to make lists of all the seeds I want to buy every season.

TreeTransplant: Robin can now move trees around your farm just like she moves buildings! I’m really bad at planning my tree placement, and it’s so frustrating to have to cut down full grown trees to change my farm layout. Now you can move trees anywhere!

Fishing Made Easy Suite/Combat Made Easy Suite: I love these mods over others that make fishing/combat easier because you can decide the exact degree you want to make things easier! You can make fishing anywhere from 5% easier to 99% easier, if you want to just take the edge off the difficulty, or make it impossible to fail a fish. You can take just a little less damage from monsters to make the Skull Cavern less daunting, or become unkillable and oneshot everything. They also have options to do fun things like put legendary fishing in fish ponds or craft magic rock candy. You can also make things harder, if that’s what you want!

Automate: Machines can pull items from chests, process them, spit them back out into the chest and pull in the next item automatically, without you having to do anything! It can be a little op early on, but it’s super handy when you have a million machines to keep track of. I especially like it for things that have shorter processing times. I can stick a chest of ore and coal next to some furnaces and let it do its thing! Or put a bait machine, recycle machine, crab pot and chest all together. The crab pots will empty and refill every day from the bait generated by the bait machine, deposit fish and trash into the chest, and any trash will be processed by the recycling machine! There are tons of fun ways to combine different machines!

TimeSpeed: Lets you stop, slow or speed up time! You can select time to freeze at certain locations (I like time to stop when I’m inside a building, like in old farming games,) set time to move slower or faster in general, or press a button to change it on the fly!

- a lot of people get the idea that its you two following makoto around like a lost puppy, when really its the opposite. he loves you two for your independence, and encourages you both to be your best selves.

- you and koto like to show up to yukaris shoots to cheer her on

- in return, the two of them support you in whatever youre passionate about.

- art ? they could watch you paint for hours and they probably have your art framed somewhere. whenever someone comes over to your apartment, they immediately lead the person over to the picture. "hey, look at our S/O's art ! isnt it pretty ?"

- music ? they show up to your performances, be it a silly practice or an actual show.

- something more professional like psychology or science ? they could listen to your nerdy rambles for hours, although makoto likes to tease you for being a nerd. (he thinks its cute though, but dont tell him i told you that)

- with yukari being in the relationship, she obviously has great taste in style. anytime she sees something she thinks would look cute on you, she buys it and has you try it on.

- you give each other little fashion shows !!

- "you look so cute !" "youre much cuter !"

- lipstick marks all over each others' faces ..... makotos too. not that any of you mind. you and yukari do turn into giggling messes after though.

- going back to the fact that makoto lost his parents early on, some days are harder than others. sometimes he finds himself listening to you and yukari breathe quietly as you two sleep, being relieved that youre both okay.

- yukari didnt have the best home life during her early childhood. you and makoto give her the affection and care she missed out on while allowing her to be independent. thats her favorite part of being in a relationship with you two.

Welcome to the In-between Space! Where multiple Players from different Roblox games can meet with each other and interact with people from outside, YOU!!!

The Player's that are NOT stuck in "In-Between Space" can enter there only when they're fall asleep. Their story is still happening outside

Available Players (and their nicknames):

• Pressure Player - Expendable (EXP in short)

- They are aware it's a game/experience. But they're unable to leave it, not until they manage to beat it. (They weren't able to do it yet) After each death, they respawn in the lobby.

- They can be slightly violent, considering their criminal past, but they're trying their best to change it. Quickly get angry.

• Blackout Player - Agent

- ( ❗ Only Eclipse gamemode because I'm too broke to buy killzone ❗)

- They WERE NOT aware it's a game, until they died. They ended in the In-between Space after their death, permanently stuck there.

- They are skilled with all types of weapons.

- They're quiet and have a lot of scars from different types of injuries.

• BT Player - Sword

- After events of Demo 4

- They are NOT aware it's a game.

- They're really quiet. Almost unable to feel fear, greed and solitude. After collecting Firebrand, Hatred slightly returned. They hear voices.

- Sometimes, but rarely you can still see them being somewhat adventurous. Like they were before obtaining the Ghostwalker.

• Hangout Player - Runner

- They are aware it's all a game, but because of the events of the games they can't leave the game, or respawn.

- They are tired and have trouble keeping still, because they spend a lot of time constantly running. They are feeling guilty about freeing the Smile.

- They blame themselves for not doing more to keep their team alive.

• Doors Player - Door

- They are aware it's a game. They can't leave the game until they finish the whole story. And since the story is still being made, they're stuck there. They can respawn.

- A curious and adventurous person that saw a lot of weird things, to the point of being used to odd stuff.

- They will constantly look around themselves when in dark room.

• Piggy Player - Detective

- They are NOT aware it's a game. For them the game events are a real world they lived in.

- One of the most mature Player, they're a police officer. Dealing with the infection made them cautious and always aware of their surroundings.

- Likes to solve mysteries in their free time. Dislikes talking about friends they lost and things they saw.

• Regetevator Player - Elevator

-They can't speak regular Roblox but talk via Voice chat (it's a more different and complicated language)

-They know the whole Regretevator because of Scag's Floppies

-Can "Poof" items out of thin air (aka buying items)

-Stays quiet most of the time but does have stuff to say in Voice chat

-Very good at running and Parkour

-just drinks Gray stuff for fun, they find the taste kinda interesting

-When they hear "THINK FAST CHUCKLENUTS" They instinctively run to the nearest wall

-There elevator is extremely chaotic so they are used to weird stuff and odd things

• Something Evil Will Happen Player - Survivor

- They are aware it's a game. While they can respawn and leave the game, the things they experience might have an effect on their physical and mental state.

- They love chaos and pulling pranks on others.

• GASA4 Player - Nooby

- They are aware it's a game. Ended up permanently stuck in In-Between Space after the true ending of the game.

- Sometimes like to cause chaos and always try to test all possibilities.

- Loves any sort of Snack and will try them...even if it's wet concrete.

• NPC's are becoming smart Player - Chaos

- They are aware it's a game. They can leave if they want. But things they experience leave a mark on their mental state.

- They like to test every possibility, trying to get every ending. They care about their NPC friends.

- Chaotic person that likes to joke.

• WATPP Player - Slice/Pizza

- They are confused and too tired trying to figure out whether it's a game or not.

- They are tired and overworked for running the entire pizzeria by themselves, they also have burn scars from ending up in the oven. Sometimes can snap at others.

- The C00lkidd hacking incidents happen during their shift.

• Natural Disasters - Weather

- They are aware it's a game. While they can respawn and leave the game, the things they experience might have an effect on their physical and mental state.

- They have quite a knowledge about different disasters.

- They experienced C00lkidd hacking incidents.

• SCP 3007 - Builder

- They ended up in the IKEA by incidentally glitching through the ground in different game. They can't leave since.

- They are constantly keeping an eye on things that might help them with survival.

- Don't like to be in open spaces when it's dark.

• Item Asylum - Item

- They are aware they are in the game, they can leave but choose not to due to it being extremely lonely

- Has 3 random weapons on them at (almost) all times

- If They get jumpscared by memes cuz they think it's a weapon and act accordingly (ie "Dodge" and throw a weapon at you)

- There both extremely chatty and super quiet at the same time, one second there yapping and when that ends there comically silent

Aventurine as an undercover uni student AU Part 2

Part One here!

Like ever since i made that first post, I've been thinking about one thing in particular with this au ever since. The first part thinks a lot about Veritas Prime. Haven't really been given much lore yet, but everyday I pray for more Ratio lore so hopefully the day will come.

This idea came to me in pure vibes. Like Aven going down the hallways after class and sees Ratio in the hallways. He isn't supposed to know Ratio in public so he has to keep on moving forward as if he isn't going a bit feral over seeing him. They make eye contact (yes, through the plaster head). To him, its giving The Meeting on the Turret Stairs (1864)

Anyway. Veritas Prime and Ratio: like be so fr that uni is MILKING its relation with ratio and i wouldn't be surprised if the students similarly idolised Ratio like how the researches during the Mundane quest idolised the Geniuses oof

-> considering that Ratio has a pass rate of 3%, i imagine that any students who passed his classes are probably gossiped a lot, especially becasue there aren't a lot of them lol.

->I'm plannning on Aven having two flatmates who actually passed one of Ratio's classes and are now stuck with him for another semester hah. They both complain about having 9 AM lectures with Ratio. Let's just say that Aven's living situation whilst in the uni was not a randomised event ;)

Whilst the uni cannot use Ratio's face for every single piece of merch (tacky and maybe illegal, depending on whether Ratio is cool with it), so they can make merch inspired off of him. It's just ducks LMAOO. So ofc when Aven attends he just buys all of the merch relating to ratio just "for the bit" and to "tease Ratio". Anyway I don't think any of the students there would be sane so i wonder if there is like illegal underground Ratio merch. Like those scammy ones that say stuff like: "buy this shirt with a distinguished lil duck on it and you will pass your final exams. Ignore this and you will have Ratio next semester". Speaking of that, considering Ratio's celeb status like i decided that there are defo shady ass legends surrounding him like: "if you turn off your bathroom light and chant into the mirror 'nous was right' 100 times dr ratio manifests himself and gives you a pop quiz and kills you if you don't get a passing grade (99.9%)

-> why are my braincells focusing on a fictional uni's societies instead of my own uni assignments smh. Anyway i thought that having a duck watching society there would be a cute idea, especially if Ratio was once the President of the society back when he was younger (the only way he interacted with his peers back then RIP)

-> secondly i love how the fandom (including me) saw that he likes rubber ducks and decided that it was a core part of his personality. Wonder if people have unironically tried bribing him with prestigious rubber duckies

-> every single year there are rumours that if you go to the duck watching society you gain enlightenment. after a couple of weeks it leaves only the people who actually like bird watching there. Aven checks it out of boredom.

The schedule of a Stoneheart is probably hella long. In comparison it feels as if theres nothing for Aven to do whilst in uni apart from 'having fun' and 'discovering himself', basically one of the big reasons why people consider going to uni/college

-> i think that forcing Aven into an environment where he doesn't need to do all of That (gambling, high stakes, risking his life, Corporate, taking on a certain persona for the amber lord, etc. etc.) is interesting. Honestly i don't know if i have a very good grasp on Aven's characterization so if anyone has extra ideas im not kidding i'd love to hear them. My current ideas are: you can take the insane gambler out of Pier point but.... so even though he is 'free' from his role as Aven (in speech marks bc would he ever feel free from the IPC, from his inherently unjust destiny, all of his persons, and also because him being a uni student isn't exactly real or very long) he may still hold onto some of those habits.

-> so maybe he would still have a very gaudy sense of fashion (he has impecable fashion imo. i love COLOUR and SLUTTY CUTOUTS, I AM A SIMPLE PERSON) and entering into the occasional competition or bet for fun. But as Ratio did encourage him to explore with things he wouldn't really get away with as a stoneheart, Aven does experiment with his fashion. Like those ugly-ass earrings that never saw the light of day before? Those clearly fake gold rings that make your fingers green? Glitter? Fair game now because no one sensible cares about that sort of thing in uni. Idk if its because I decided i wanted to put on extra af makeup just to go to the grocery store whilst in uni, but i think it would be cool if Aven also experimented with that. Like from using makeup just to cover your dark circles and looking 'acceptable' to putting on obnoxiously loud eye shadow and expressing yourself in another way. (speaking of eyes, he'd be wearing contacts here, can't remember if i put that in the last post? Keep in mind that no eye contacts can give him back the light in his eyes lol)

-> Speaking of gambling, maybe he'd still do it, but with games he wouldn't usually go for (like from poker to mahjong celestial jade?? I don't know enough about gambling. Why did i have to attach myself to a really smart guy and his gambling bf???). Defo does not stake his life or 50 million credits this time around. One of my friends went to a casino to play mahjong but there was no money involved, so maybe that could be another approach, but would that be enough enrichment for Aven though...?

-> his next hobby (that starts off as ironic) is showing up to the Dr Ratio fanclub and demolishing every single fan there. In his essays, he makes sure to reference Ratio's work at least once. He uses the uni library to read Ratio's articles because he is down BAD. People fear that he's developed a parasocial relationship with Dr Ratio. They don't know it's even worse than that /j

Safe to say that Aven still stands out even in a uni full of eccentrics lol

Ideas for the aforementioned OCs: they'd probably play a relatively big part in the story by lowkey adopting Aven (in a "omg that's a first year! absolute child right there --- wait why does he have no light in his eyes?! Well we're now friends" type of way) but IDK. Like usually im pretty wishy washy on having a focus on OCs, but because this AU is set in VP Uni and I wanted Aven to be friends with his two flatmates I thought I might play around with it.

-> Li Bingmei: (李冰梅) an engineering foxian student from the Luofu in her final year, had Ratio for her last semester and her hairline has been flying away since. Notorious in the uni for a) being stuck with dr ratio and b) getting hit by a car whilst on the way to her engineering exams last semester (Dr Ratio took her to the hospital). Is pretty frugal so she just brings her gaming computer to class. When it starts up, each time it sounds like the computer may finally explode. The only thing she has there is university stuff, several viruses and one singular game: the Sims 4 (plus 201 mods). She plays it because it allows her to mess around with fuckass building design and not care about the laws of physics. Her student ID from first year smiled; she now does not give a shit.

-> Leo. A med student, also in his final year. He's from Veritas Prime and mainly decided to attend because it was close to his home, secondly because it was one of the best universities in the whole ass galaxy. Notorious for getting the most chalk throws out of any student (no official record, Ratio neither confirms or deny whether this is true, but his high score is 13 chalk throws in one week. ) One of those medical students who parties nearly every night til 3am but shows up to their 9am every single time. When you look at him, he seems to have no thoughts or survival instincts within him. Has fallen asleep in Ratio's lectures several times but still answers each question to a satisfactorily level. Is extremely concerned for Kakavasha because he thinks that there's a really borderline-toxic parasocial relationship between him and Ratio, ALSO thinks he has a weird situationship with an unknown man because he saw a concerning text message. (It's just Ratio under a different contact name, think 'my dearest pookie bear' or something. Also it was just Ratio contacting Aven about "the children missing him grievously". It was about the cake cats, who were left in his care. The only thing that makes them stop crying is Ratio framing pictures of Aven in the living as if Aven died.)

(I find names really hard. It's lowkey the only thing stopping me from writing about Aven's siter. Asked my friend for some chinese name ideas and hit me with Li Bing, who was a famous chinese hydraulic engineer from 3 b.c. Over the panic call, she told me: the common li family name, then bing as in ice, AKA luo binghe's bing. I decided to add mei because luo binghe's nickname is bingmei because i thought it would be funny. The mei in her name is for plum blossom, not little sister don't worry haha. If my naming sucks ass, please lmk i'm not a native speaker. I chose Leo after my friend who is currently in med school. 50% chance I'll tell him that an OC is named after his middle name.)

how do you make your zines? a friend of mine has taken an interest in zine making and also likes pathology like i do, so im trying to convince her to draw a rubin fanzine, however i have no actual idea on how it works. I've bought both of your little zines and they seem so perfect... how do you do it?

first of all Thank You For Buy (sic) overjoyed to hear you're #enjoying them. now ok so ☝ i'm going to go with the peterstakh zine template because for the oneirotects one i had to do some annoying shit. lowkey it's very simple to do you just gotta have an idea for it otherwise the template is easy as shit.

take your lowest-value paper you have (this will be a blank template you can refer to)

fold and cut according to this tutorial ("classic" variant) (<- HA! like the video g) (but tbf you can use the other variants shown, i just haven't used them myself)

mark on this template the cover, back cover, and pages, as well as up side and down side so you can refer to it and also know how to orient your page when you work on the real thing

^ reiterate steps 1 and 2 with a new piece of paper (better quality/possibly thicker depending on what medium you'll be using)

do your zine. it's gotta be done sorry i can't help you with this. for the peterstakh one i really liked the idea of a "wrap-around" cover (if you have it you know what i mean), for the oneirotects one the concept of a page-by-page slow unfolding and then the double page that jumps at you (scary). you can color you can glue you can do whatever at this point it's just you.

^ you can stop here for the zine will be done. if you wish to distribute or sell it (and it's like 2D/no stuff glued or protruding) :

scan it 300dpi minimum (you might have to resize the file later on)

clean up + eventually color manipulations for a cleaner printing

fight for your life over multiple tries on low value paper of trying to find the right printing settings that make the best printed zine

Hi!

I'm so happy for you, it must be so euphoric to find your theriotype and join the community at the same time! [Unfortunately I didn't find mine TvT]

So, let’s get to the tips!

Making red fox art! It can be drawing, painting, but also music (by creating a soundtrack on the theme of your natural habitat or a song about foxes), writing, photography (photos of your habitat and/or your theriotype, if possible), some beings create by drawing shapes in the earth/sand, and adding stones, I find that very beautiful! You don't need to be a talented artist to create! Find a technique you like, then go for it!

Watch some red fox art! You don't have to make art to enjoy the wonders of this concept! You can also make art requests to beings who create drawings, moodboards, stimboards, and even poems! You can also read books and watch series/movies with foxes!

Collect things! I collect feathers that I usually find on the ground, and it gives me a kind of "predatory pleasure" to have a piece of prey as a trophy, even though I have never hunted birds for real. You can also collect objects from nature, like small stones, sticks, etc. ⚠️Be careful if you want to buy taxidermy or vulture culture, because it can come from cruel farms where the animals are unfortunately exploited in a horrible way...please do a lot of research.

“Claim” a territory! If you are territorial, this activity is for you! Select a place in your garden, in a park, in a forest, (your territory can be in a public place, but in this case don't forget that this place does not officially belong to you) You can draw a map of this place, and maybe build a den outside.

Make a scent marker! It's a small potion where there are natural elements mixed with your scent, you can use it to mark your territory. I highly recommend it! Thorn from "therian territory" on youtube made a tutorial for this!

Learn fox body language! This is something very interesting, it will surely help you connect with your species. Maybe you'll find that you use the same body language?

Create a therian/alterhuman/nonhuman journal ! It's a notebook, or a small notepad, where you write things related to your alter/nonhuman identity. You can write about your therian journey, the animal experiences you have, for example. To make it, I reused my old half-empty scrapbook, cut out the used pages and then rebuilt a cover page. (I didn't have an empty notebook)

Create a place dedicated to your theriantropy! Place elements that remind you of nature, place gears if you have any, images or drawings of your theriotype, etc. on a shelf, a piece of furniture, or elsewhere. You can make it aesthetic if you want :3.

Eat a snack that looks like a red fox's diet! Foxes eat a wide variety of things! Keep in mind that your body can't eat certain things that foxes can, so be careful, okay?

Make yourself some less common gears! Gears are not necessarily tails, masks and collars, a gear is anything that an alterhuman/nonhuman can connect to his alter/nonhumanity, there are many other things like bracelets, phone cases, arm/legwarmers, etc. You will certainly find inspiration while browsing tumblr.

Try to do some vocal exercises! I don't know if you classify this as a common way to express one's theriantropy, but hey, why not?¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

Connect with the community! Share your experiences, your feelings, your questions, your points of view in the online community (I advise you not to use Tiktok and YouTube shorts, unless your goal is to educate this part of the community). The Tumblr community is mostly welcoming and caring! [Do not share your personal information, stay safe].

27th of December Dear Diary, I’ve been so excited to write and tell you how my life’s been lately! It’s been nothing short of chaotic, really, but also so much fun! So, first of all, Changbin and I will hit the 3rd month mark tomorrow! Can you believe that?? Ughhh, he’s so adorably sweet. Please tell me we married him in the future! Okay, moving on before I get too delusional! There’s so much stuff I still want to say. Do you remember that we joined the photography club? Yeah, well, guess what your girlie got for Christmas from her parents! YES! A FREAKING CAMERA!!! I’m so fucking excited, you have no idea. Although Seungmin hasn’t said anything so far about giving him back his camera, I don’t want to push it. I promised him I’m gonna buy one as soon as possible and give his back, so that’s what I’ll do the moment I go back to Uni. Which reminds me… I’m screwed. I go back after New Years’, and then not even one week later, we’re gonna start our exams. I have 6 of them and am woefully unprepared. Shit, what if I fail? I’m really stressed. And I also need to get a job. Even though my parents send me money every month, it’s barely enough, and I feel really bad about having to ask them for more to buy a new book or whatever. I saw that a café close to Uni is hiring students to work part-time and I called them up last week, and my interview is the day after I return. I’m really excited to start, but also anxious. Anyways, I gotta go help in the bakery, so I’ll come write more later. Bye~ Phoebe

“You got a job?!” Yuna gasps when she sees me take out my new work shirt.

“Yes! At that new café around the corner! Come see me and I’ll treat you to something.”

“That sounds like so much fun! Wow, should I get hired too? We should work together!”

“You’re sweet.” I laugh at her intensity. She can be quite the character, and although I don’t actually know much about her family’s situation, it’s clear that she has a lot of money to spare, so she doesn’t technically need a job.

Still, getting a job just for the fun of it is exactly the type of thing Yuna would do. Just as the reason why she came to this university and decided to live in the dorms – she wanted to go through the experience of being a student.

“Are you gonna make cute drinks and latte art?”

“I think so! I have training this week, and I assume it’s to learn how to use their equipment and stuff.”

“Man, I should really get a job.” She contemplates as she places her hands between her palms.

“Hey, posture, remember? Sit straight.”

“Ugh, you’re just like Jeongin!” She complains and falls on the bed, hiding her face between her pillows.

“He asked me to take care of you when he’s not here, so what am I supposed to do, Yuyu?”

“But Bibi, I’m an adult too!”

“So what?” I chuckle. “Even adults need someone else to take care of them. Nothing wrong with that.”

“Yeah… I guess you’re right.” She sighs. “Who’s taking care of you, though?”

“Of me?”

“Yeah. Is Changbin treating you nicely?”

“Oh, yeah, he is.” I reply, my voice faltering slightly towards the end. This goes unnoticed by Yuna, and I don’t ponder on it too much either. I can’t understand why I’m hesitating either.

Changbin is great. He’s treating me right… so why do I feel so… uneasy?

“Really?” She sits up again, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Tell me all the spicy details, girl!”

“What details?” I chuckle, embarrassed.

“Is he big?”

“Yuna!”

“What?! I’m curious!”

“You shouldn’t be curious about your boyfriend’s friends’ dick sizes!”

“Why not? It’s only natural to want to know!” She whisper-shouts.

“I think it’s anything but natural to want to know. For instance, I’m not really interested in Jeongin’s dick size.” I point out with a laugh.

“Well, maybe not… what about Seungmin? Don’t you think he’s packing?”

“What?” I ask, baffled. “How did we even get to this conversation?”

“I’m just saying! It’s normal to be curious, it’s not like you’d cheat on your boyfriend or anything like that, but you can’t seriously tell me they aren’t talking about our boob sizes or stuff like that! You know, boy talk!”

“Yuna, that’s disgusting. I don’t want to think about anyone talking about my boob size. Is that really a thing?”

“I’m pretty sure it is.” She nods, her gaze grave.

“Damn, they are?” I sit down next to her, grimace on my face. “My boobs are not that big, though.”

“Yeah. Mine neither. What should we do, Bibi? Should we get boob jobs together? That way we’d have cute matching boobs.”

“You’re fucking crazy.” I stand up, shaking my head and bursting out laughing.

She follows soon after.

“Yeah, right. As if we’d ever change anything about ourselves for a man.” She smiles and throws herself against me, pulling me back on the bed as we continue laughing harder. “However, if you do want to get a boob job for yourself, I’d support you. Although I think your tits are pretty the way they are.”

“This is really weird.” I conclude and we eventually stop laughing.

“Bibi, you’re the best friend ever. I really like talking to you. Can’t you skip work and spend some time with me?”

“No, Yuyu. I haven’t even started, and if I don’t leave in the next 5 minutes, I’ll probably not have any job to get back to. I also enjoy spending time with you, though.” I smile apologetically and pat her head.

“Do you wanna hang out after work? I’m meeting Jeongin for a movie later tonight at his place.”

“I don’t wanna intrude in your alone time.”

“You won’t! I’ll tell him to invite more of his friends and we can do a big get-together! You can also ask Changbin to come.”

“Hmm. You sure?”

“Yes, silly! I’m sure!”

“Okay, that sounds fun enough.” I smile and stand up for real this time, putting on my shoes and grabbing my backpack to leave.

My training lasts for 4 hours, and when I’m done, I open my messages to check if Changbin texted me back.

I am bummed out to see that he promised some friends he’d go with them to the gym to help them train, and can’t cancel last minute, so I send him back a sad emoji and call Yuna, who picks up after one ring.

“Bibi! You done?”

“Yeah, just finished.”

“How was it? You have to tell me everything!”

“I’ve learned how to make a heart in coffee.” I chuckle at Yuna’s excitement.

“Really?! You gotta show me!”

“It doesn’t look that good yet.”

“Who cares?! It’s still cool as fuck!”

“Okay. I’ll show you. Now, where do I need to come?”

“Oh, right! I’ll send you the address. Let me quickly call Seungmin, he’s not here yet either and maybe he can come pick you up!”

“No need! I don’t want to disturb him. Just send me the address and I’m gonna get there soon.”

“Bibi, we’re friends, you’re not disturbing anyone. Now hold~” She speaks quickly, and not even one second later there’s elevator music on the other line.

It takes Yuna 2 full minutes to reconnect our call.

“Mission accomplished! Seungmin will be there in 5!”

“Okay.” I chuckle again. “See you soon!”

“Love youuu~”

I end the call and put the phone back in my bag, looking fondly at my uniform. The day’s been fun already, and I’m really glad that I’ll get to spend some time with my friends.

Things are really looking up.

Seungmin pulls up next to me in less than 5 minutes, and I open the car’s door cheerfully.

“Hey!” I smile brightly as I enter the car, but he just nods.

His demeanour is… glum, and the silence in the car is deafening.

“How was your day?” I ask, trying to start up a conversation and smile, but Seungmin doesn’t even look at me.

“Good.”

“That’s great. What did you do?”

“Not much.”

“Really? That’s unusual, you’re usually so busy!” I try to keep it going, but he’s making it near impossible.

“Mhm.”

“So… who did Yuna invite?”

“I don’t know, Phoebe. Can’t you be patient until we get there and see for yourself?” He looks at me for the first time, and his tone is slightly exasperated.

“Sorry.” I turn away and look out the window, feeling my chest get a bit heavy.

Seungmin and I don’t say anything for the rest of the ride, and the 15 minutes until Jeongin’s apartment are spent in an uncomfortable, tense silence.

The apartment is spacious and modernly furnished, the natural colour palette making the place appear elegant and rich. The hallway is large, and there’s multiple closed doors I can see from the front door.

To the right is the living room that leads up to the rest of the house; it’s large, in natural colours, and has a big sofa in the middle right in front of a cinema-like TV.

“Bibi!” Yuna exclaims and jumps on me as soon as I enter the apartment. “I missed you sooo much!”

“You’ve seen me 6 hours ago.” I remind her while taking off my shoes.

“Come fast, you gotta show me everything you’ve learned at work today!”

“Now?” I laugh. “How?”

“I’m sure Jeongin has a coffee machine in his kitchen.” She grins and drags me after her to the kitchen, which might be just as large as the living room. I try to contain my surprise and simply follow Yuna, who leads me towards a brand-new coffee machine, even bigger than the one we have at work.

And we are a coffee shop.

“See? I told you there’d be one. Now, how does it work?” Yuna point towards the machine and waits for me to figure it out, and thankfully, the buttons on this one are similar enough to the ones on the machine from my place of work, and I manage to get it going.

A few minutes later, Yuna hands me fresh milk that I pour into a cup before I steam it, and I try my hardest to make coffee art.

“That heart looks like a butt.” Hyunjin, one of Jeongin’s friends that has been closely observing me and Yuna, remarks, and I throw him a nasty glance. He quickly backs off with a laugh, then asks everyone else to come in the kitchen and guess what they’re looking at.

“That’s certainly a heart, come on, Hyunjin, don’t be mean.” Chan pats Hyunjin’s back a few times to scold him.

“Well,” Jeongin grimaces, “I’m not so sure… if you turn it like this,” he starts, turning the cup around, “it’s definitely a-”

“Peach.” Lee Know, another of their friends, says with resolve.

“Come on, guys!” I whine. “This is unfair. It’s a heart! It looks like heart, right? Right???”

I look around to everyone in the kitchen, but Seungmin is nowhere to be seen. My heart drops a second time, and I get the feeling that something is deeply wrong with him to act so distant.

After our debate is over and Yuna tries my coffee that she fortunately likes, we all head back to the living room with multiple snacks and drinks in our hands, preparing for the movie.

“Whose turn is it this time?” Chan picks up the remote and browses through films.

“Mine!” Yuna exclaims happily and raises a hand.

“Noooo. She’s gonna pick romance again.” Lee Know whines, and Yuna rolls her eyes.

“Maybe we should let Phoebe pick since it’s the first time she joins us.” Jeongin suggests, before Yuna tuts at him and crosses her arms in front of her chest.

“Nah, don’t worry about me. I’m happy with whatever you guys decide. Yuna should pick.”

“See, Jeongin? That’s how you should act.” She rolls her eyes again, ignoring her boyfriend’s apologetic glances as she snatches the remote from Chan’s hands and settles in the centre of the sofa.

Chan makes enough space for Jeongin, who quickly plops down next to her and puts his arm around her shoulders. Hyunjin goes to sit next to Chan, seemingly running away as far as possible from Lee Know, who’s already sat down at the other end of the sofa, to Seungmin’s left.

The only place for me to squeeze into is either to Lee Know’s side, or between Yuna and Seungmin, although there isn’t much space on the sofa. Still, Yuna pats down the spot next to her and I finally decide to sit down as well, and she clicks on a movie.

Lee Know was right; it’s romance.

I don’t know what I was expecting out of this movie night, but it was certainly not how vocal everyone is. They talk over the film a lot, sometimes even pausing it in order to discuss several elements of what’s going on on-screen.

The discussions are mostly unbiased and objective, but at one point during the film, while the characters are expressing their undying love for each other, Seungmin suddenly scoffs and lets out a silent “Yeah, as if.”

No one hears him but me, and my heart sinks down in my chest for the third time this day, because I now get a glimpse of what might’ve possibly happened.

I contemplate for a few seconds and look at his side profile, but nothing on his face betrays the heartbreaking words he just muttered. Still, leaving it like this, pretending like I didn’t hear and going about my night simply doesn’t sit right with me, so I cross my arms and touch him with my right hand.

I fully expect him to shake my hand away from his arm, or to move away, but he doesn’t.

He lets my hand rest on top of his arm, and my hold on him tightens.

A few minutes pass, and I feel his hand rest on top of mine. We don’t exchange any looks; we don’t say anything. Our eyes stay glued to the TV while our hands hold each other in solidarity.

I’m here for you, my hand speaks.

Thank you, his replies.

“I’m sooo tired! Can’t believe it’s already 12!” Yuna yawns on the sofa as the rest of the guys pick up the empty cans and bags of popcorn.

“Yeah, do you guys wanna stay over?” Jeongin asks, still plopped down next to Yuna.

“Nah, I’m good. I live close anyway.” Chan smiles politely.

The other people also refuse the offer, so I pull my phone out and open an app to call a taxi. No buses run at this hour anymore, so I have no other choice unless I want to walk 40 minutes through the dark.

“Seungmin, are you going to the dorms? Will you drop Bibi off?” Yuna asks brightly, unaware of the inner turmoil in Seungmin’s soul. He looks at her for a few seconds without saying anything, and I start feeling weird.

What if he wants to go somewhere else and not the dorms? I don’t want to disturb him.

I see Seungmin open his mouth to reply, and I immediately cut him off, knowing he’d refuse anyway.

“No, no, it’s fine!” I say quickly, waving my hands around. “I’ll just take a taxi. No worries.”

“It’s okay.” Seungmin nods. “I’m going to the dorms anyway. It’s the same building. Let’s go.”

He doesn’t wait for me to reply, going directly to the front door to put his shoes on, so I follow him unsure, like a lost puppy.

“Are you sure?” I whisper when I’m next to him, and instead of replying, he grabs my shoes and places them in front of me.

I get the hint, so I bend down to put them on, tying messy bows that surely aren’t going to hold on each one.

We thank Jeongin for having us and say goodbye to everyone else, then make our way to Seungmin’s car outside, and just as when we came here, neither of us says anything.

The drive to the dorms takes a bit longer than during the day, despite the empty streets, and soft tunes are playing from Seungmin’s phone connected to the Bluetooth.

Once we reach the dorms, we get out of the car and walk together towards our building, and after the first few steps, I notice that one of my shoelaces has come undone.

I don’t say anything and simply bend down to tie it, letting Seungmin go, as I’m sure I’ll catch up in just a second.

However, to my surprise, I see him bend down as well, and he grabs the shoelaces from my fingers and ties my shoes instead.

“There’s no need-”

“You’re tying them wrong, that’s why they’re getting undone.”

“I’m not tying them wrong!” I protest, crossing my arms in front of my chest, which unbalances me, and I fall on my bum.

“Be careful.” Seungmin chuckles and helps me stand back up, and I immediately burst into a fit of laughter.

“This is so embarrassing.” I mutter under my breath and clean off my clothes of any dust on the ground. “Thanks.”

We resume walking and get in the building, and Seungmin comes with me to my door.

We smile at each other briefly as I start rummaging through my pockets for the keys, but the heaviness in my heart is ever-present. I feel like I shouldn’t leave Seungmin’s side just yet.

Maybe he needs a friend to talk, someone to simply listen to him.

When you’re heartbroken, the last think you need is to be by yourself; all alone with your thoughts.

Seungmin turns around to leave and I instinctively grab his hand, making him look back at me.

“Do you want to talk about it?” I ask softly, removing my hand from his.

He just shakes his head.

“Then…” I start again, rummaging through my head for every possible excuse to give him, just so he doesn’t leave on his own. “… I took a few pictures with my new camera the other day… and I was really hoping you’d give me some feedback on them. And I also have to give you back yours.”

I look at him expectantly, and he lets out a quiet sigh.

“Phoebe, I know what you’re trying to do, but-”

“I’m not trying to do anything.” I reply with urgency. “I’m serious. It’s just a couple of photos. Promise. Come in?”

Seungmin looks at me for a few more seconds, then lets out another sigh.

“… Okay.” He agrees eventually, and I triumphally open the door and invite him inside.

I turn on a lamp with a warm light and glance around the room, and I almost face-palm myself.

“Sorry, it’s a bit of a mess.” I laugh when I see Yuna’s clothes scattered everywhere on her bed. “Let me quickly put these away.”

“It’s Yuna’s bed, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, how did you guess?”

“Only Yuna could pull off that bright pink.” He chuckles as I fold her clothes and put them away in her closet.

“Right? She’s literally Barbie.”

“She is. Both she and Jeongin are such fashion freaks, I’d never wear half of the things they do.”

“I also don’t think I’d wear such daring colours.” I hold out one of Yuna’s bright pink skirts and put it on top of my black trousers, glancing in the mirror with a focused look.

“That pink doesn’t suit you.” Seungmin remarks, and I frown slightly as I put the skirt back.

I’m not exactly sure why his words hurt me, but they sting slightly.

“The lilac you wore last time suits you very well, though.” Seungmin must’ve noticed the change in my expression, as he quickly adds this last bit, and I roll my eyes and chuckle.

“Kiss-ass.”

“Who, me?!” He scoffs, sitting down on the now-empty bed. “I’ll let it go for now, so let’s see those photos.”

“Sure, sure.” I laugh and grab my camera, giving it to him, and then sit down on a chair opposite from him.

I inspect how he treats it, how gently he touches the buttons, as if the whole thing is made of glass, and I come to appreciate him even more for the carefulness he always shows towards objects – and even towards the people he holds dear.

“These are pretty good.” He nods. “You need to improve the lightning though.”

“Yeah, I can’t figure out the right settings for it.”

With no warning, Seungmin presses the camera against his eyes, and I see him quickly press a lot of buttons.

I stare confused at him and don’t move at all, when he snaps a picture of me.

He then hands me the camera and I open the picture he snapped, and of course, the lighting in it is perfect, the warm tones and the dim light skilfully captured through the lens.

“See? Your turn.” Seungmin smirks smugly, and I do the same.

However, the settings are all wrong, since the light now comes from a different angle, and it takes me a lot longer to go through all the settings he’s previously changed in just a matter of seconds.

After a full few minutes, I snap a picture, and not only is the light completely off, but it also came out blurry, and unfocused, which immediately makes me pout.

“Let me see.” He raises his hand in the air, waiting for me to give him the camera, but I just shake my head and try again.

The second attempt is a bit better, but the lightning still doesn’t look as it should.

I shake my head again and change the setting once more, taking a third picture.

“Bee.” Seungmin says, pulling me out of my trance. “Let me see.”

“It’s all wrong, Minnie.” I complain, and for some dumb reason, I feel my eyes water up.

This is so stupid. It’s just a picture.

Maybe I’m tired, and that’s why I’m getting so emotional.

I hand him my camera and rub my eyes a little, trying to control my breathing and calm myself down.

“This last one is pretty good.” He compliments.

“You’re just saying that to be nice.”

“When have I ever said anything to be nice?” He scoffs and we both start chuckling.

“I just don’t get why I’m so bad at it.”

“You’ve started this, what, two months ago?”

“Three. And I don’t mean just photography. It’s everything. Our exams are coming up and I don’t know shit.”

“We’re gonna study together for the exams, and you’re also gonna get better at photography, Bee. I’ve been doing it for years now. Of course I’m able to change the settings a bit better. That doesn’t mean yours are bad, though. You can still change them up in Photoshop and colour correct them anyway.”

I listen to him and nod absent-mindedly.

“Okay, maybe except for the first one-”

“Minnie!” I whine, and he starts laughing at me.

I see him continuing to browse through the other pictures again, and all of a sudden, he drops a bomb on me.

“Ria and I broke up today.”

He doesn’t even raise his eyes from the camera as he says this, and the smile on his face doesn’t falter, but it looks all bitter.

“Seungmin…” I stand up and sit down next to him on the bed, rubbing his back slowly. “Why?”

“She… she left, you know?” He shuts down the camera and puts the lens protection back on, then sets it on the desk. “And each time she came back, she was a different person.”

I don’t say anything as I’m waiting for him to continue on his own.

“We were supposed to spend New Years together, but she dipped last minute, saying she’s been invited to a party by her new friends in the new city. I told her it’s fine.”

“It’s not.”

“Yeah… it wasn’t. It didn’t feel fine. But what was I supposed to do?”

“And then…?”

“And then she came back today, and she was cheerful, and happy, and she told me she doesn’t love me anymore, and we broke up.”

My heart plummets down once more, and I feel it bleed. I don’t even want to imagine how he is feeling. Despite not knowing anything about his girlfriend – or his ex, I suppose – it’s clear he loved her a lot, and that he still does.

“I just don’t get how feelings can change so quickly, you know? We were happy for years, and then all of a sudden, she wants to go away and rediscover herself away from me, and then she’s this completely different person. She left as the Ria we all knew and then came back as a stranger.”

“I’m so sorry, Seungmin.” I frown and stop rubbing his back. Instead, I engulf him in a hug and hold him tight. “I’m here for you. We all are.”

“I know… I just… it doesn’t make any sense.”

“It really doesn’t.”

“I’m sorry for dumping all of this on you.”

“Don’t even start.” I hug him tighter. “We’re friends. That’s what friends are for.”

“I suppose.”

We continue chatting for a bit more, and Seungmin’s complexion looks a bit better when we decide to call it a night and head to sleep.

My heart also feels lighter, as if all the anxiety melted away when both of us opened up about our thoughts and insecurities.

And we also planned a few studying sessions, so I can hopefully pass all my exams, even if I’m getting more unsure about my major each time I open my notebooks.

And at our next studying session, I should really give him back his camera.
