𝐩𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 | 𝐬.𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐝
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: when an unsub hunts their victims in a casino, choosing couples that fit a specific pattern, spencer has no choice but to once again ask his friend for a little favor.
𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬/𝐭𝐰: spencer reid x diva!female reader, undercover as a couple, reader wearing a dress, header and summary FAKE AF bc literally casino scene is like 5% of a fic, the rest are just preparations, kind of like this friends episode where they're just getting ready lol
𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬: 4k
𝐚/𝐧: requested by @mggslover <33 u don't know this about me, but that ep with reid in the casino had me barking like a pack of german shepherds, so i just couldn't stop myself from adding it
"So, we already have a profile. The unsub is a man between twenty-five and thirty years old. A gambler who has lost his entire fortune, yet he still plays, desperately trying to surround himself with luxury, refusing to accept his reality. His victims are men just like him—young posers, living beyond their means. They all had partners, attractive and confident women who belonged to the social group they dreamed of, unaware of who they were really dating. The unsub probably used to date someone like that as well. By getting rid of them, he experiences a deep sense of purification. He believes he is killing the part of himself that he sees as false, when in reality, that part is his true self," Morgan recited, pacing in circles around the office, gripping a black marker in his hand—the same one he had just been using to write on the whiteboard.
Suddenly, he stopped and let out a chuckle. "I think I know what we need to do to catch him. It's actually pretty obvious."
Everyone watched him with intrigued expressions. Usually, it was another team member who had these sudden bursts of verbosity, but that didn’t mean the others were immune to them from time to time. For the sake of maintaining balance in the universe.
"Enlighten us, then," Prentiss urged him, perching slightly on the edge of the table with her arms crossed over her chest.
Morgan spread his arms as if accepting a challenge. He paused for a moment, as if building suspense, then stated simply:
"Undercover agents who fit the profile of his victims."
His gaze swept over the team members, observing their reactions. Everyone focused on his idea, weighing the chances of success.
Reid noticed the concentration on their faces—right at the moment when his eyes accidentally met Morgan’s, who had been watching him for quite some time. He didn’t even have the chance to sigh before his friend asked the question Spencer knew was coming.
"You know how to play poker, right, Reid?"
"Well, turns out I’m banned from casinos in Las Vegas, Laughlin, and Pahrump for card counting..."
"So that’s a yes," Morgan cut him off, nodding in satisfaction. He looked fully committed to his plan—determined to see it through and catch the unsub. "Alright, great. That leaves us with two things."
He paused dramatically. Prentiss arched a brow.
"Go on, enlighten us again."
"One of them is money," Spencer guessed without difficulty.
Morgan waved a hand dismissively. "Rossi’s got it covered."
"Oh, do I now?" Rossi leaned back in his chair, giving Morgan a pointed look. "Did it ever occur to you to ask me first? Do I look like some random ATM to you?"
"So Reid goes in as a potential target, looking for the unsub among the players," JJ cut in, slowly and logically summing everything up. "Makes sense. But there’s still one problem. Every victim had a partner. Without one, he won’t fit the profile."
It looked like he had been waiting for this to come up. The moment it did, he locked eyes with Reid without a word, certain that his friend would immediately understand what was going through his head.
Spencer remained still for a moment before shaking his head as realization hit him.
"I need to ask you for a favor."
“No way,” he scoffed. “No. Just no, this is—”
♠
Just some subtle foreshadowing.
Before those words were even spoken, Reid had to catch up to her first. And that was no easy task—she was making her way to her lab at an incredible speed, her elegant heels clicking sharply against the floor as she walked, nose buried in a stack of papers she was analyzing with deep concentration. She wasn’t even looking where she was going, something Spencer noted with a tinge of jealousy. If he attempted the same maneuver, he’d undoubtedly trip over the most random object right before the stairs, tumble down ten flights, take twenty people with him on the way, and, at the very end, someone would accidentally kick his broken body and spill their coffee on him. Black. No sugar.
She was walking so fast that he had to break into a light jog just to stay a step behind her.
"Hey," he tried to get her attention.
He was already embarrassed by how out of breath he was.
She didn’t stop, but she did slow her pace significantly. Instead of responding, she simply raised a finger, signaling for silence, and continued analyzing whatever it was she was analyzing.
Spencer sighed, irritated as always by her sense of superiority, and simply took the documents from her hands.
It was so unexpected that a startled, deeply offended sound escaped her lips.
"Can’t you see I’m a little busy?"
"This won’t take long. I just need to talk to you."
They both came to a halt. She folded her arms across her chest, raising a perfectly arched brow. Beneath her white lab coat was, as usual, an elegant outfit, and the rest of her appearance hardly needed describing—stunning, as always. Spencer would never admit it, not even for unlimited access to the Library of Alexandria, but every time he was within her orbit and his eyes landed on her, he had to blink and remind himself she was real. Even if they’d already seen each other multiple times that day.
She pressed her lips together, visibly impatient.
"You’ve got a minute. Two, if it’s something sufficiently interesting," she said, waiting for him to get to the point.
And the moment she did, Spencer’s slightly labored breathing from his earlier exertion became embarrassingly audible.
The corners of her lips curled into a smirk.
"Someone chasing you?"
"Actually, I need to ask you for a favor." He ignored the comment, hiding his embarrassment behind a mask of irritation. He sighed, partly to calm his breath, partly to prepare himself for the next words. While he thought the first part of Derek’s plan was good, the second, in his opinion, left much to be desired.
Any other agent could’ve gone with him—there were two or three in the team, counting Garcia. And she wasn’t even accustomed to fieldwork. She just happened to fit the profile they’d created. Incredibly attractive and confident to the point of being borderline cocky. Morgan had insisted on her, but when it came to convincing her, he’d passed it off to Spencer.
"If I remember right, and I’m pretty sure I do, you already owe me for checking that last piece of evidence. You really want to add another one to that?"
"No, but I’m afraid I don’t have much of a choice. So...would you pretend to be my partner while I play poker at the casino, and try to spot our current suspect among the other players?"
He figured it would be easier if he just said it outright.
The woman didn’t even flinch.
"Can you play poker?" she asked, eyeing him carefully. She scoffed. "I want to see that. Fine, let's do it."
Spencer's eyes went wide. He had a hundred arguments ready, but he didn’t expect her to agree so easily.
"What?" she asked, noticing his reaction.
"Just like that? No questions? Doesn’t it bother you that you'll have to pretend to be...my girlfriend?"
He shook his head.
He tried to sound as if it were something completely natural, just another surprising element of the job he encountered all the time. However, he couldn’t help but swallow at the end of his sentence, an entirely involuntary reflex, betraying the hint of nervousness that had settled inside him.
She took a step forward, closing the distance between them, stopping only when she was uncomfortably close, slightly tilting her chin up. Her expression remained unreadable, not even a hint of a mocking smile.
"I mean..." Reid began, but the thought he wanted to express got lost, his focus slipping. Of course, he got distracted. He broke eye contact, shifting his gaze to some random spot on the wall behind her, silently cursing his own reactions. When he looked back at her, he forced himself to maintain the illusion of normalcy. "What I meant is, this could be dangerous. After all, it's a serial killer. You don't have to agree to this if you're having doubts."
She didn’t seem at all disturbed or frightened. She barely shrugged.
"So what? You’ll be there too."
Deep down, he felt like someone had just handed him a medal for special services to the country and shaken his hand, congratulating him. He called himself an idiot and made a mental note to retake the IQ test sometime soon.
“So you trust me?” he asked, driven by some strange impulse.
She simply raised an eyebrow at him.
“Is there a dress code I need to follow?”
He felt like squeezing his eyes shut out of embarrassment. Instead, he just shook his head in denial.
“No…also…actually…no. Just be yourself.”
She nodded as well, and he had the feeling something shifted at the corners of her lips. A hint of a smile, maybe. Then she moved even closer. Surprised, Reid opened his mouth, and she reached for what he’d forgotten he was even holding—documents he’d almost torn from her hands earlier.
So that’s why she’d been so close.
“See you then,” she said, brushing past him toward the direction she’d been heading before he stopped her. The scent of her perfume wafted into his nostrils as she did. “We’ll see what kind of poker player you are.”
The urge to turn around over his shoulder was overwhelming. And to speak up, almost painful.
“The best,” he added.
“Do we look natural? You know, like a couple?” Spencer asked with concern.
There was something sweet in her laugh.
♠
His hand was stiffly resting on her waist, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't relax it. She, on the other hand, standing right next to him, touching him and fitting against his body like a puzzle piece, didn’t have the same problem. She sighed and took his hand, guiding it lower down her body to make it look like a natural position.
“Not at all,” Prentiss said bluntly, shaking her head.
“You look like siblings who were forced by their mom to pose together for a picture,” Morgan added, watching them with a hint of dread. It was starting to sink in that this plan had way less chance of success in reality than it did in his head.
“So that means no?”
“Of course, it means no, idiot,” the woman hissed at him. Suddenly, she stiffened, as if surrendering, and pulled away from him.
Spencer raised his hands in a defensive gesture, looking at his teammates. They’d met in the office that evening, the day before the planned operation. The unsub always struck on the same day of the week, so they had to wait for the right time. Their task was simply to practice pretending to be a couple. Sounded easy enough, right?
"I don't get why everyone's so upset!" he said, looking at them. "Is it really that weird that groping a colleague doesn't come naturally to me? I think, honestly, it’d be worse if the roles were reversed—"
"Not in this case, man," Morgan replied, shaking his head. He rubbed his forehead and straightened up, as if washing his hands of the whole thing. "I’m exhausted. You two can practice this on your own. I don’t care how long it takes, you can sit here all night if you need to. Just remember, tomorrow you have to act like you’re dying to rip each other’s clothes off at any given moment."
Spencer felt warmth on the back of his neck. She rolled her eyes.
"And if it doesn’t work?" she asked. "What then? Can’t another agent take his place?" For a moment, she stared at Morgan before shrugging. "You, for example."
Spencer shot her a wounded look.
"Et tu, Brute…"
She glared at him.
"You want me to play Brutus with you?"
Meanwhile, Prentiss and Morgan had slipped out of the room, leaving them alone. Spencer sighed heavily. He was really starting to worry about the coming day and the undercover mission ahead. They both fell silent for a while, he rubbed his tired eyes and slowed his breathing, trying to rationalize it to himself.
"You know, I wouldn’t stress about it so much," he finally spoke up, glancing at her and her arms crossed over her chest. "I mean, tomorrow I’ll be sitting at the poker table, focused on the game, so I won’t be thinking about how to act natural. And because of that, it’ll be easier to actually act natural...you know what I mean?"
She probably knew what he meant, but that didn’t stop her from letting out a small snort at his convoluted explanation. Instead of answering, she stayed silent for a moment before slowly walking over to one of the chairs and dragging it to the center of the room.
She had to know Spencer was staring at her, completely puzzled by what she was doing, but she didn’t bother explaining herself. Letting go of the chair, she moved away and then gestured toward it with her hands, like she had just pulled a rabbit out of a hat during some magic show. Spencer felt like he was watching something exactly like that.
"Well, go ahead. Sit down," she said.
"What?"
"You said tomorrow you'd be sitting at the poker table and it’d be easier for you to focus. So, let’s see how true that is."
"That’s not exactly what I meant—"
"I’m not sitting here all night. I'm telling you that right now. So just sit down and let’s find out if this whole plan even has a chance of working. Because, right now, with your behavior, it doesn’t have any."
Reid remained still for a moment, almost holding his breath. She had hit a sensitive spot—the success of tomorrow's plan and catching the unsub. Reluctantly, he trudged over to the chair. He glanced at her. She urged him on with a look.
He sighed and sat down. As soon as he did, she settled herself—not anywhere else—but right on his lap.
Due to the surprise, he took a slightly too deep breath. Hearing this, she looked at him from beneath her raised eyebrows.
"Sure, keep reacting like that," she said, sarcastically. She adjusted herself, one hand resting on his shoulder. Once she was sitting comfortably, her soft body pressed against his, she moved her hand to the back of his neck, her fingertips brushing through his hair. "Very natural. Very convincing."
"We don't need to be that convincing."
"If we're going to draw the unsub's attention, then yes, we do. Otherwise, what's the point?" She scoffed. "So you can dig up your poker skills?"
"My poker skills are fine, I don't need to dig them up," he replied almost automatically.
"Confidence. I like it. Seriously. Just try to put it into something else. Into your partner, for example," she began, in a lecturing tone. As she spoke, her face was very close to his. She had an expressive face, moving it as she explained, and Spencer followed her every motion with his eyes, almost as if she were a medallion in the hands of a hypnotist. "According to the victim profile, you're supposed to be a bit insecure. And you know what insecure people do, especially in environments like this? They pretend to be confident. So do it. Hold me tighter, show those guys on the other side of the table..." She gestured behind her as if someone were actually there, "...that this beautiful woman is yours. And they can only look."
His own pulse was treacherous, thankfully she couldn't hear it. Spencer felt slightly dizzy, suddenly way too aware of how she was positioned on his lap, the scent of her, and the delicate brushing of her hair against his neck when she moved.
"There are no guys," he mumbled dumbly, not knowing what else to say.
She flicked him on the forehead.
"Then imagine them."
Spencer felt hyper-aware of the spot on his forehead where she had touched him. For a moment, he tore his gaze away from her, which was difficult when she was literally on top of him. He did it, though, to take a calmer breath before what he was about to do next.
He started by adjusting her on his lap. She might have been comfortable, but he certainly wasn't. He felt like she was about to slide right off him. He placed his hands on her waist—not like she was a delicate porcelain figure, though. Not that he grabbed her roughly or tightly. He just did it the right way. One of his arms wrapped around her for better stability. She watched him, almost without blinking, with genuine curiosity. The corners of her lips slowly turned upward.
For a moment, he disconnected from his thoughts, not worrying whether it looked natural for any imagined people. He just wanted them both to be comfortable.
"Is it better now?" he asked, not teasing, but with genuine curiosity.
He felt the muscle in her thigh move, the subtle tension rise as his hand rested on that part of her body. He relaxed his fingers, letting them cover most of its surface.
Her lips were slightly parted, her breath escaping in a soft, quiet rustle.
"Almost," she said.
Without breaking her gaze from his face, her hand found his, the one resting on her thigh, and guided it higher, increasing the pressure. Spencer had no idea how he was still managing to control his breath so perfectly. Maybe he was too dazed to focus on his own reactions. Maybe he'd surrendered to the situation, not overthinking it, just letting it flow. Where to? He didn't know. Where did he want it to go? He didn't know that either.
"Now," she began, releasing his hand from her grasp and sliding her fingers along his forearm. "Now it's perfect."
She shifted. Gently, probably an unintended twitch. The weight of her body lifted and then settled again, rising and falling on his lap, almost on his hips. The surface brushed against another surface. Body on body.
They were silent. Why were they silent?
If someone had asked him about the capital of Sri Lanka, he'd probably say Fidel Castro.
The emptiness that filled his mind almost embarrassed him, while she looked at him from under slightly raised lashes, her gaze as usual strong, seeming to pierce right through him. He had to break it, he had to stop this before the physical closeness pushed him into doing something foolish.
“So,” he began suddenly, throwing the words out before he'd even prepared the rest. He blinked, trying to focus. “Did you know that originally, poker was played with 20 cards, not 52 like it is now? In the earlier versions of the game, it was usually played with fewer people. It was only with the evolution of poker, and the rise in its popularity, that the full deck was gradually used, allowing for more variety in hands and more complex strategies.”
For a moment, she just looked at him in silence. He held her gaze, doing his best to stay composed. It wasn’t that he was denying his awkwardness—he was well aware of it. And he knew that if she didn’t get off him soon, things were going to get really out of hand.
She sighed and ruffled his hair, like she was petting a dog.
“It was almost perfect,” she murmured, shaking her head. She pointed at him with a warning finger before slowly moving off him. She didn’t seem affected at all, like the whole thing hadn’t fazed her one bit. At least not in the same way it had shaken him. “Tomorrow, no more talk like that, understood?"
Spencer nodded, completely agreeing.
The casino was a blend of intense red and deep gold, popping from nearly every corner. It also radiated from her—her dress and accessories made her look like a goddess dedicated to the place, reigning over it with authority.
♠
"So, there's something we forgot to discuss," she said as they made their way to the table. Spencer kept his gaze straight ahead, his arm around her, while she was looking at him, specifically his profile. She wasn’t watching her feet, clearly relying on his guidance. Lowering her voice, she leaned in. What from the outside might have seemed like a flirtatious whisper with a sly grin and fluttering eyelashes was, in fact, a serious question. "Do you want me to keep an eye out for your unsub while you're busy with the game?"
Reid shook his head.
"You’re not a profiler."
"Doesn't mean I can't tell when some guy's staring at me."
"Everyone stares at you."
She focused on his words, puffing her lips as if conceding the point.
"Fair point," she muttered, pulling her face away from his neck.
His words weren’t an exaggeration in the slightest. She really did have that effect on people, especially men, but not only them—like the sound of a siren, immediately drawing attention from all around. He felt almost strange walking arm in arm with someone like that. He didn’t know what kind of primal territorial instinct had awakened in him, but he felt the urge to pull her closer. He shook his head disapprovingly at his own thoughts, and she tilted her head at him, questioning. Nothing, he mouthed silently.
He didn’t need to do that, pull her closer, of course. They quickly took their seats at the table where the game was about to begin. She lowered herself onto his lap just as they had practiced the day before. Thank God they had done that. Otherwise, his mind would have started spinning like plates in a microwave, feeling it all somehow more real, then, under the watchful eyes of strangers.
She glanced at his face, a slight tension in her expression. He realized she was tense again. He took a breath and adjusted her position, lifting her slightly, holding her as if it were an established routine, following the instructions. When he thought of it that way, it was actually easier.
She gave him a gentle smile, weaving her hands together at the back of his neck. He responded, honestly.
And then, there were only the cards.
Okay, that wasn’t entirely true. He couldn’t afford for it to be just the cards. His job was to spot the one right face among dozens, not to win. That part had become her priority—she kept whispering hints into his ear, as if she still wasn’t fully convinced that he actually knew what he was doing.
“We should play against each other sometime,” she suggested.
“Don’t think for a second I’d go easy on you.”
“You think I’d need you to?”
Her question—well, more of a scoff—barely registered in his mind. Because just then, he caught an unfamiliar gaze lingering on them, watching for longer than the rest. And not just at them, but at one very specific spot.
She sat on his lap, completely at ease, not even noticing how the hem of her short dress was riding up a little too much.
It had caught the attention of the man sitting directly across from them—who was staring, shamelessly, at that very spot.
She must have sensed the way he tensed slightly because, within a second, her lips hovered near his ear.
“What is it? Did you spot the unsub?”
Spencer met the man's gaze and, with a natural movement, reached for the hem of her dress, tugging it down into place.
“I did,” he replied.
Then, without hesitation, he turned his head slightly to the side—locking eyes with the man who had been watching them from the very start.
by the way, happy women's day! <33 u are all incredible and invaluable (never forget that)

Series Masterlist | Next Chapter

The forest was cloaked in an oppressive silence, where every sound seemed swallowed by the ominous presence of cursed energy, the type that even the lowest-level sources could feel in their bones. Footsteps crunched over twigs and leaves, disturbing the stillness as Gojo Satoru led his first-year students deeper into the thick of the cursed energy's source.
His casual demeanor, hands tucked into his pockets and a laid-back smile playing on his lips, contrasted with the seriousness of the situation. It was as if they were out for a casual stroll instead of on a mission to investigate a reported special-grade curse.
Itadori Yuji, Fushiguro Megumi, and Kugisaki Nobara followed closely behind, their expressions ranging from excitement to apprehension.
The blend of eagerness and wariness that accompanied every encounter with curses was palpable. Yuji’s bright, curious eyes darted around, already anticipating the unexpected. Nobara, less enthused, let her irritation show in the way she muttered complaints under her breath. Megumi, the most composed, kept his focus sharp, his brow furrowed in anticipation.
“So, we’re just here to observe, right?” Nobara asked, her voice laced with frustration. She wasn’t one for waiting around, especially when the promise of action loomed. “If it’s a special-grade curse, I doubt we’re doing much besides standing around.”
Gojo chuckled lightly, the sound teasing. “Observing is just as important as fighting, Nobara. It's all about learning how curses work.”
Yuji shot Gojo a curious look. “But it’s dangerous, right? You’re the strongest sorcerer, so we’ll be fine?”
Gojo was amused by Yuji’s innocent confidence. “Special-grade curses can be unpredictable, Yuji. It’s not just about strength; it’s about knowing what to do when things don’t go as planned.” He grinned wider and put his hands behind his head, adding a sense of cockiness as he walked, “But yes, Yuji, I am the strongest.”
Megumi sighed and rolled his eyes at his sensei's snarky comment, his skepticism apparent. “I still don’t see how standing around helps us learn anything.”
“Trust me, Megumi,” Gojo replied, his tone cryptic. “You’ll see soon enough.”
As they ventured deeper into the forest, the heavy cursed energy they had been tracking began to grow stronger. A sort of power Gojo had only felt a few times before in his life, evoking a feeling of both excitement, and fear, the latter which he hadn’t felt in a while.
“We are close to the special grade…stay alert students! You don’t want to miss a master in action!” Gojo said in his usual excited tone.
Beginning to dramatically stretch to prepare for the battle, Gojo was about to give the three first-years instructions to just observe the battle and take out any low-grade curses they encountered. However, before he could open his mouth, the strong cursed energy began to vanish.
It was subtle at first, like the fading scent of something foul in the air, but soon, it became clear that what should have been an overpowering force now felt faint, practically gone.
Yuji frowned, his senses alert. “It’s weaker. Shouldn’t it be getting stronger as we get closer?”
Nobara’s irritation grew. “I swear if we came all this way for nothing—”
Before she could finish, Gojo came to a sudden stop, his blindfolded gaze fixed on a small clearing ahead. The students followed his line of sight, and that’s when they saw you. Gojo’s eyes, even beneath that blindfold, were locked onto you.
—
You sat in the clearing, your body frozen with fear and cold. The forest around you was dark, the shadows stretching and twisting unnaturally. You had no memory of how you ended up here; the only thought that was present in your mind was that you were scared and disoriented.
Your hands trembled as you wrapped your arms around yourself, trying to make sense of the situation. You were a relatively calm and happy person, but as of late things had been changing, although, your memory seemed to be fading more rapidly the more you thought about it.
Footsteps approached, and your body tensed, instinctively curling tighter. The voice that spoke was startlingly bright, almost cheerful, not fitting the heavy atmosphere of the forest at all.
“Well, what do we have here?”
The man who spoke was tall, his white hair glowing faintly in the dim light. His face was obscured by a black blindfold, but there was an intensity in his demeanour that you couldn’t ignore. He crouched in front of you, his tone oddly reassuring despite the circumstances.
“Are you alright?” he asked gently.
You opened your mouth to speak, but your voice caught in your throat. Fear and confusion overwhelmed you, making it hard to form words. You managed a slight shake of your head, your body trembling under the weight of everything you couldn’t remember.
Gojo studied you, his expression unreadable behind the blindfold, but there was a certain softness in his tone. “Interesting,” he murmured to himself, his words more for his own contemplation than anyone else’s.
Behind him, the first-years approached cautiously. Megumi’s gaze was sharp, scrutinizing you closely. Yuji and Nobara exchanged uncertain glances, their confusion and concern growing with each passing second.
Gojo straightened, his playful demeanour replaced by a more serious edge. “What is your name?” he said leaning in closer to your face.
You finally managed to get words out, not much above a whisper, as this white haired man was only inches from your face, “I-I’m y/n, y/n y/l/n.”
He nodded once and stood up swiftly, causing you to flinch. “Well hello y/n!” He said flashing a wide grin at you. “I am Satoru Gojo! A legendary sorcerer, if I might add.” He said proudly, provoking a loud sigh from Nobara.
He hinged at the hips and switched his tone back to a more serious one. “What are you doing here in this forest, doesn’t seem like a nice place to camp for a young girl like you” He asked you, and boy did you wish you had an answer.
“I don’t know…” You loosened the tight grip you had around your legs. “I, I really don’t remember anything at all, not from the past few weeks at least.”
Gojo looked at you intensely straightening his spine as he stood up straight, ‘Her eyes, they’re so…’ he quickly interrupted his thoughts and glanced at the the dark haird boy. “Megumi, can you sense any cursed energy from her?”
Megumi closed his eyes, concentrating on the surrounding area. His frown deepened. “Nothing of significance. Whatever cursed energy we felt here a few minutes ago, it’s gone now.”
Gojo turned back to you, crouching once more. His hand extended toward you, a kind but firm gesture. “Let’s get you somewhere safe. We can figure this out.”
You hesitated for a moment, your fear warring with the overwhelming relief that someone was offering help. Slowly, you reached out and took his hand.
The touch was warm and steady, a small comfort in the midst of your disorientation.
As Gojo helped you to your feet, your mind raced. Who were these people? How had you ended up in this situation?
And why couldn’t you remember anything from the last few days? The only thing you were sure of was that you had always been able to see curses—creatures others couldn’t perceive, lurking just beyond the edges of reality. But this? This was something entirely different.
You swallowed hard, gathering the courage to speak. “I don’t… I don’t remember how I got here,” you admitted, your voice still barely above a whisper. “I’ve always been able to see curses, but this… I don’t understand what’s happening.”
Gojo tilted his head, his expression unreadable beneath the blindfold. “No memory, huh?” He sounded curious but not judgmental. “Well, we’ll figure that out.”
—
Back at Jujutsu High, the atmosphere was tense. You were seated in a room, surrounded by people you barely knew, all of them sorcerers far more skilled than you could ever hope to be. The tests began almost immediately.
Every inch of your story was picked apart, your memory—or lack thereof—under scrutiny. They questioned you about the forest, about the curses, about anything that could provide a clue.
One by one, the sorcerers took turns assessing you. They used techniques, spells, and devices you couldn’t begin to comprehend, all in an attempt to uncover something—anything—that could explain your presence in that cursed clearing.
It was gruelling, mentally and emotionally exhausting. You answered the same questions over and over again, your frustration and mental fatigue climbing with each repetition. The truth was simple: you had no memory of what had happened.
And yet, the interrogations persisted, leaving you feeling more confused and overwhelmed by the second.
Gojo watched silently from the sidelines, his usual playful demeanour replaced by something quieter, more contemplative. His eyes—hidden behind the blindfold—never left you. The longer the tests dragged on, the more something about the entire situation seemed off to him.
Beside him, Principal Yaga and another special grade sorcerer, and Utahime Iori, continued their assessment. Utahime frowned as she used her ability to sense the flow of your cursed energy—or lack thereof.
“She doesn’t seem to be lying,” Utahime said softly, more to herself than anyone else. “But there’s something odd about this. It’s like there’s a barrier, something we can’t quite break through.”
Yaga crossed his arms, his expression stern. “We need to cover all possibilities. She could still be hiding something.”
As the tests continued, you felt yourself growing more drained. The sorcerers probed deeper into your mind, looking for gaps, inconsistencies—anything to suggest you weren’t telling the truth. But no matter how hard they pushed, your story remained the same. You didn’t know. You didn’t remember.
The pressure mounted until, finally, Gojo stepped forward, his voice cutting through the room with an authority you had yet to hear from him. “That’s enough.”
The suddenness of his command startled everyone, even Yaga, who raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Gojo, we need to make sure—”
“She’s not lying,” Gojo interrupted, his voice firm. “There’s minimal cursed energy coming from her, and she clearly has no memory of what happened. We’re not going to find any answers by grilling her like this.”
Utahime glanced at Gojo, her expression curious. “You’re sure about this?”
Gojo turned toward her, his grin returning, though it lacked its usual mischief. “I’m the strongest sorcerer, aren’t I? Just trust me.”
Yaga still seemed skeptical, but after a long pause, he sighed and relented. “Fine. We’ll stop for now. But we still need to figure out what she was doing in that forest. Especially since a veil was drawn…”
Gojo gave a small nod of satisfaction, then turned his attention back to you. His expression softened. “You’ve been through enough today. Let’s get you some rest.”
As the other sorcerers began to disperse, the first-years remained behind, exchanging confused glances. Yuji was the first to speak, his voice low but curious. “It’s not like Gojo-sensei to be this… invested, right?”
Nobara crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Yeah, it’s weird. He’s acting different.”
Megumi, ever perceptive, watched Gojo closely. “He’s unpredictable, but this is definitely unusual.”
Gojo, sensing the shift in the room, flashed his signature grin, waving off their concerns with a casual hand. “Don’t get any weird ideas, kids. I’m just looking out for someone who got caught up in a bad situation. That’s all.”
But even as he dismissed their concerns, Gojo couldn’t shake the thoughts swirling in his mind. There was something about you that unsettled him—something beyond the circumstances of your discovery in the forest. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but it gnawed at him, refusing to be ignored.
He wanted to be closer to you. To understand why, of all the strange and dangerous things he’d encountered, you had managed to occupy so much space in his thoughts.
—
The next morning, you awoke in a small room within the Jujutsu High compound. The soft light of dawn filtered through the windows, casting the space in a gentle glow. Despite the calm atmosphere, your mind was anything but settled.
You had been told to stay here until they figured out what had happened to you.
While the thought of staying at Jujutsu High was daunting, you couldn’t deny the strange sense of safety you felt, knowing that Gojo was nearby. In addition to this, there was nothing waiting for you back in Tokyo, you’ve always been alone, and as a 24 year old girl, it was not the most exiting life to live.
A knock on the door interrupted your thoughts. It opened before you had a chance to respond, and Gojo stepped inside, his usual playful expression firmly in place.
“Morning,” he said cheerfully, leaning casually against the doorframe. “How are you feeling?”
You hesitated before answering, still unsure of how to navigate this strange new world you’d been thrust into. “Confused,” you admitted softly. “But… better, I guess.”
Gojo nodded, stepping further into the room. “Good to hear. We’ve decided to keep you around for a while.”
Your eyes widened in surprise. “Keep me around?”
“Yep,” Gojo confirmed with a grin. “You barely have any cursed energy, and you clearly don’t know how you ended up in that forest. But until we can figure out what happened, it’s safer for you to stay here, where we can keep an eye on things.”
You swallowed hard, the weight of the situation settling in your chest. “So… what happens now?”
Gojo’s grin softened slightly, and for the briefest moment, his playful facade cracked, revealing something more genuine beneath. “For now? You’ll help out around the school. Get to know the students, maybe even learn a bit about how we handle curses.”
He paused, his tone becoming more serious. “And I’ll make sure nothing happens to you.”
The sincerity in his voice caught you off guard, and it seemed to catch Gojo off guard too. You had only known him for a short time, but something about the way he spoke to you made you believe him.
There was a depth to his words that you hadn’t expected, a promise that went beyond the typical duties of a sorcerer.
And as Gojo left the room, you couldn’t help but wonder why he seemed so determined to protect you.
—
As the days passed, the curiosity surrounding Gojo’s sudden attentiveness only grew. The first-years, in particular, found it strange how their usually carefree and unpredictable teacher seemed to go out of his way to check on you.
Yuji, ever the optimist, chalked it up to Gojo’s natural inclination to help people in need. “He’s just looking out for her. You know how he is.”
Nobara, however, wasn’t convinced. “It’s more than that. He’s never this focused on one person. It’s weird.”
Even Megumi, though more reserved in his judgments, couldn’t deny the oddness of Gojo’s behaviour. “There’s something going on. He’s not acting like himself.”
Gojo, of course, dismissed all their concerns with a wave of his hand and his usual grin. “You’re all overthinking it. I’m just making sure she doesn’t get into any more trouble.”
But no matter how many times he deflected their questions, the truth was something Gojo couldn’t even admit to himself. The more time he spent around you, the more he found his thoughts drifting back to that clearing in the forest—the way you had looked so lost, so vulnerable, but still so strong.
He couldn’t explain it, but there was something about you that pulled at him, something that made him want to be closer.
And for the first time in a long while, Gojo Satoru—the strongest sorcerer in the world—felt something…almost like uncertainty.
Days turned into weeks, and you slowly adjusted to life at Jujutsu High. The students, though initially unsure about your presence, began to warm up to you.
Yuji, with his endless optimism and genuine kindness, was the first to make you feel welcome, even though he was almost a decade younger than you. He’d often drop by to chat, always trying to lighten the mood with stories of his own awkward experiences as a novice in the world of jujutsu sorcery.
Nobara, though more distant at first, soon took to you as well. She admired your strength or at least the fact that you were handling your situation without falling apart completely. "I respect that," she said one day with a shrug. "Not everyone could be thrown into this and not lose their mind."
Megumi was the hardest to read. His sharp, critical gaze often lingered on you, as though he was still assessing whether or not you were truly a threat. But over time, his cold demeanour thawed, and though he didn’t openly show it, there were moments where you could tell he had begun to trust you—or at least tolerate your presence.
However, it was Gojo who remained the most enigmatic. He would check in on you often, always with his playful grin and teasing remarks.
But there was something beneath the surface, something you couldn’t quite place. His visits were frequent, his concern palpable, but he never pushed.
Whenever you asked him why he was so invested in helping you, he would just shrug it off, offering a casual, "I’m the strongest, remember? It’s my job to make sure nothing happens to you."
But even you could see that there was more to it. His presence was constant, and no matter how much he tried to play it off, there was a tension between you—something unspoken but undeniable.
The first-years noticed it too, though none of them dared to say anything directly to him. Yuji, ever the optimist, thought it was just Gojo being protective, but Nobara and Megumi weren’t as easily convinced.
One evening, as you sat in the common room, absentmindedly flipping through a book Yuji had recommended, Gojo appeared, leaning against the doorway with his usual smirk.
"Reading? I’m impressed," he teased, strolling into the room without invitation. "What’s the book?"
You glanced up, meeting his blindfolded gaze. "Just something Yuji thought I’d like. It’s… fine."
Gojo chuckled, dropping down onto the couch beside you, far too close for what most would consider appropriate. His casual attitude about personal space had long since become something you were used to, though it still made your heart race a little faster each time.
"I was just checking on you," he said lightly. "Make sure you're not too bored here."
You raised an eyebrow. "Bored? After all the tests and constant probing into my memory? Yeah, I’d say I could use a bit more excitement."
His smile softened, just a touch. "Those tests were tough on you, huh?"
You shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "They were necessary, I guess. I don’t blame them for wanting answers. I want answers, too."
Silence stretched between you for a moment, the air thick with unspoken tension. Then, to your surprise, Gojo spoke again, his tone more serious than you’d ever heard it before.
"You’re handling all of this pretty well," he said quietly. "Most people wouldn’t be as calm about it."
You turned to face him fully, searching for the meaning behind his words. "I’m not sure if I’d call it calm. I’m just trying to… survive, I guess."
Gojo tilted his head, his smile still in place but his voice softer. "You’re stronger than you give yourself credit for, you know."
Something about his words made your chest tighten and your eyes lifted above the page of your book, stunned. A warmth began to spread through you that you didn’t quite understand. Why was he being so kind? So attentive?
Before you could respond, the door to the common room creaked open, and Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi appeared, clearly having overheard at least part of the conversation. Yuji’s bright smile lit up the room, but there was a glint of curiosity in his eyes.
"Are we interrupting something?" Nobara asked, her tone playful but her gaze sharp as she looked between you and Gojo.
Gojo leaned back, waving his hand dismissively. "Nope, just checking in on our guest. You know, making sure she’s not too lonely."
Yuji chuckled, but Nobara wasn’t fooled. Her eyes narrowed slightly, and she leaned closer to Megumi, whispering something that made him roll his eyes.
Megumi, always the most perceptive, shot Gojo a questioning look. "You’re being unusually… protective."
Gojo’s grin widened, but his tone remained light. "What can I say? I decided I’d try and be a nice guy this year, a New Years resolution thing, ya know?."
But Megumi wasnt satisfied with that answer. "It’s not like you to take such a personal interest in someone who isn’t a sorcerer."
There it was—the suspicion that had been bubbling under the surface for weeks. Those words hurt a bit.
You knew you weren’t of much importance compared to everyone here, but it was harsh to hear out loud. The first-years weren’t blind. They had seen how Gojo had gone out of his way to ensure you were safe, how his visits to check on you had become more frequent, more personal.
Gojo, for once, seemed caught off guard by the directness of the question. He shrugged, his grin never faltering. "What can I say? I like keeping things interesting."
But as the first-years exchanged glances, it was clear that none of them believed his nonchalance. There was more to it—there had to be. But none of them pressed the issue further.
After they left, the room grew quiet once more, and you could feel the weight of Gojo’s attention on you. For the first time, it felt like he wasn’t hiding behind his usual playful demeanour. There was something deeper in his gaze, something that made your heart race in a way that had nothing to do with fear.
"You should get some rest," he said finally, his voice low. "I’ll see you tomorrow."
As he stood to leave, you found yourself wanting to say something—anything to break the tension. But the words wouldn’t come. Instead, you watched as he left the room, the door clicking softly behind him.
And as the silence settled around you, one thought echoed in your mind: why did it feel like you were missing something important?
—
Later that night, as Gojo lay in his quarters, staring up at the ceiling, he couldn’t shake the image of your face from his mind. The confusion, the vulnerability, the strength you didn’t even realize you had—it all stirred something in him that he couldn’t quite explain.
For someone as powerful as Gojo, emotions had always been a distant second to his duties as a sorcerer. But with you, it was different. There was something about you that made him want to protect you, to keep you close.
But more than that, he wanted to understand you. To know what it was that drew him to you in the first place.
And as he closed his eyes, one thought lingered in his mind: he wasn’t sure what it was about you, but he was certain of one thing.
He couldn’t stay away from you.

you never believed in myths dealing with the new year. you never cared to run around with a suitcase or wear polka dots or to start sweeping and somehow eat twelve grapes all in under a minute.
and you most definitely never went out to buy yellow or red underwear to wear on new years.
until today, when you consciously wore your red pair of underwear, what’s the harm? it won’t do anything anyway you thought to yourself, continuing to get ready for the party your friend had invited you to.
your friends cheered as you they spotted you among the crowd of people, motioning for you to join them as they said hello, handing you a champagne glass as scooting over so you could take a seat.
after a couple minutes of talking you excuse yourself to the bathroom, hurrying as you check the time.
11:56 pm
you’re walking quickly, stopping in your tracks when you can’t find your friends.
there’s a light tap on your shoulders, “excuse me,” the voice is unfamiliar, making you turn around quickly. you’re greeted with stunning blue eyes and snowy bangs falling into them, a charming smile on the strangers face.
“hi,” you smile softly, not wanting to seem rude, “can i help you with something?” your head cocks to side a bit, confused as to why this drop dead gorgeous man was tapping you on the shoulder minutes before midnight.
“yes actually!” he grins, “see my best friend over there, thinks i have no game,” he points at the bar, you subtly glance over, seeing a man with long black sipping on a drink, observing the two of you, “he thinks i won’t be able to find someone to kiss by midnight.”
you stare at him dumbfounded, what the fuck was going on. “so you want me to..?” you trail off, staring at the much taller man as he ran his fingers through his hair.
“kiss me at midnight, yes,” he grins, “only if you want of course! if not feel free to walk away,” you weigh the pros and cons of the situation.
pro’s: you kiss a hot guy on new years, he proves he has game
con’s: ?
“yeah why not,” you laugh, “I’m y/n” you smile, the man flashes you a smile before replying, “satoru!”
the people around you begin to countdown and you step closer to satoru, giggling when his arm snakes around your waist, pulling you a bit closer. you let your arms snake around his neck.
“five! four! three-!”
“can i kiss you?” he breaths out, you nod, crashing your lips onto his as balloons fall from the ceiling, fireworks popping can be heard from outside as everyone cheers.
your lips fit together perfectly, you can taste his vanilla chapstick and the champagne he was sipping on. satoru feels like he’s on cloud nine, smiling widely when you two pull away.
“happy new year, satoru” you grin, lips still tingling as he smiles back at you.
“happy new year y/n” he replies, about to say something else when your friends find you, quickly whisking you away. you look back at him, an apologetic smile on your face as you wish your friends a happy new year.
it’s almost an hour later when you’re walking out of the building, tugging your jacket a bit closer to you when the cold breeze hits you.
“you cold?” the voice makes you stop in your tracks, a smile fighting it’s way onto your lips when you turn around, bright blue eyes meeting yours.
“aren’t you?” you reply, watching as he approaches you with a grin, he shakes his head.
“only been out here for twenty minutes” he laughs, teeth chattering a bit. the sound makes your mouth fall open, laughing softly.
“why have you been out here for twenty minutes? you don’t even have gloves on oh my god!” you squeal, instinctively taking his hands in yours, face burning when you realize how much larger his were than yours.
“didn’t wanna miss you,” he admits, cheeks even rosier than before as he looks at you, “couldn’t leave my new years kiss without getting to know them a bit more” he smiles, “especially when they’re an amazing kisser,” he teases.
you can’t help but roll your eyes, a bit embarrassed as you tug him back into the lobby of the building.
“if you wanted my number all you had to do was ask” you reply, satoru wiggles his nose a bit, smiling at you and humming.
“yeah but then i wouldn’t get to talk to you while i slowly unfreeze” there’s a flirty glint in his eyes, his gaze makes you look away for a second, flustered as you try to think of something to say back to him.
“we’ll what kind of person would i be if i left you hanging after giving you the best kiss of your life?” you laugh, watching as his smile grows even wider, giggling at your words.
you can’t help but immediately become even more attracted to him as he laughs, dimples popping out and making you swoon.
the two of you talk for a bit longer, deeming him warm enough to live before you’re scribbling your number onto his palm, kissing his cheek and waving goodbye.
you wake up the next day with a message from an unknown number:
it’s satoru :)
would you wanna get lunch sometime ? you see my best friend thinks i have no game … :3
you can’t help but laugh, biting your lip as you reply to his text,
well what kind of person would i be if i didn’t help prove him wrong :/
satoru swings his feet as he reads your reply, shoving the phone in suguru’s face, sticking his tongue out before texting you.
maybe he should be glad shoko accidentally washed his clothes with hers that one time, turning all his whites red.
he’s glad he wore that pair of white turned red pair of boxers that night, he can’t imagine a life where he didn’t have you in his arms right now, celebrating new years together once again.
it’s just the two of you in your house this year, 24 grapes in a small bowl on the table next to you, giggling softly as you cuddle together on the couch, watching the live feed of the countdown.
“kiss me at midnight? I’ve got something to prove to my best friend” he smirks, you can help but roll your eyes at him, sitting up and grabbing him by the collar of his shirt, pulling him gently.
“oh shut it” you smile, crashing your lips onto his as the clock strikes 12 fireworks displaying on the tv screen, lighting up the entire living room.
you pull away quickly, grabbing the bowl as the two of you scarf down the grapes, laughing when satoru almost chockes on one of them. as the final chime of the clock sounds you press a kiss to your lovers lips, both of you smiling as he chases you for one last kiss.
“happy new years sweetheart” he mumbles, grinning when you card your fingers through his hair.
“happy new years angel boy,” you reply, pressing a kiss to his dimples before landing on his lips once more.
safe to say the two of you definitely believe in the new years myths now (suguru tells satoru he should get the credit, not shoko’s terrible laundry skills).

South African Jews reacted with outrage on Friday after the country’s governing body for the sport of cricket stripped the Jewish captain of the U-19 national team of his role, citing the “risk of conflict or even violence” as the reason.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced that David Teeger, who is Jewish, would no longer captain the side just one week before the opening of the U-19 Cricket World Cup, when teams from 16 nations will compete in South Africa for the sport’s top prize.
In a statement released on Friday, CSA said that its security team had advised “that protests related to the war in Gaza can be anticipated at the venues for the tournament.”
It added that such protests would likely focus on Teeger — an observant Jew and resident of Johannesburg who made his professional cricket debut in 2023, scoring an impressive 51 runs for the South Africa Emerging Players side against North Cape. Teeger was only appointed to the captaincy of the U-19 team last month.
The targeting of Teeger could result “in conflict or even violence between rival groups of protestors,” CSA said. Invoking its “duty to safeguard the interests and safety of all those involved in the World Cup,” it said that Teeger had been “relieved of the captaincy … in the best interests of the players, the U-19 team, and David himself.” Teeger would “remain an important and active member of the team and we wish him and the team every success in the tournament,” CSA concluded.
CSA’s decision — against the background of rising antisemitism in South Africa, widespread support for Hamas in the wake of its Oct. 7 pogrom in Israel, and the charge of “genocide” brought by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) — provoked fury in South Africa’s Jewish community.
Prof. Karen Milner, chair of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD), told The Algemeiner that CSA’s decision was “an outrageous act of antisemitism.”
“There is no basis for this decision, other than the fact that Teeger is Jewish,” Milner said. “It is shameful that CSA is embarking on a path that is dangerously reminiscent of Nazi Germany, when Jews were actively discriminated against, including among sporting clubs.” She stressed that the SAJBD “would do everything in its power to fight against this vicious prejudice.”
In a separate statement, the South African Zionist Federation (SAZF) said it would be calling on the International Cricket Council (ICC), the sport’s global governing body, “to investigate the CSA’s blatant act of discrimination.”
“The ANC [ruling African National Congress] government’s political hostility to Israel and its friendship with Hamas has created a climate in which it is entirely acceptable to target a sportsman because he is proudly Jewish,” the SAZF stated.
Among those expressing sympathy for Teeger on social media was three-time MLB All-Star Kevin Youkilis. “Heart goes out to this young Jewish man,” Youkilis posted on X/Twitter. “The ‘security risk’ excuse is bullshit.”
Former Boston Red Sox star Youkilis also referred to a speech that Teeger made just weeks after the Hamas pogrom, delivered after he received the “Rising Star” Award at a Jewish community ceremony. Teeger paid tribute to the Israeli military, saying, “Yes, I’ve been [given] this award, and yes, I’m now the Rising Star, but the true rising stars are the young soldiers in Israel.” He went on to dedicate the award to “the State of Israel and every single soldier fighting so that we can live and thrive in the diaspora.”
Teeger was being “punished for showing gratitude to the State of Israel,” Youkilis commented.

Matt x reader where she doesn’t like loud noises and some of their friends got really loud and we’re yelling so he takes her away and distracts her? I love your stories!
AWWWW thank you🫶🏻 I love this prompt sm. (check a/n)

Matt Sturniolo x Reader
Summary: In which Matt comforts Y/n during a party
Warnings/Notes: Reader is referred to as a girl
Requested: Yes!
My Star
Being at this party was the last place I wanted to be right now. I was only here because I had to be, not because I wanted to be. Standing in a room full of complete drunk strangers was not my idea of fun.
I had come with Nick, Matt, Chris, and Madi, but they had all seemed to go their separate ways to network. I, on the other hand, was resting against the wall, a bottle of water firmly clutched in my right hand and my phone in the other.
Scrolling through Instagram, I could see that many influencers had already posted the party on their stories. One picture I saw that caught my eye was Matt and Chris with a baby doll. I laughed softly before sliding my phone back in my pocket.
Scanning the crowd of people, I couldn’t recognize a single person. There were so many people here it was unreal. The sounds of chatter among friends was slowly beginning to get on my nerves.
“Alright everyone!” A loud voice booms on the other side of the room. “Let’s get this party started!” I stand on my tip toes to see it’s the DJ, and the crowd of people cheers as he begins to play “Love Sosa” by Chief Keef at an insanely loud volume.
I immediately begin to feel uncomfortable as my body temperature rises. My head begins to hurt and my vision starts to blur. I can recognize the signs of a panic attack anywhere, so I begin looking for the exit. The room spins as I try to push myself off the wall.
To anyone else at the party, I probably looked like another drunk girl trying to leave, but in reality, I felt like my insides were being clawed out. I franctically search around for the exit, when instead I’m met with a familiar pair of brown doe eyes.
“Y/n, hey,” Madi says, grabbing my arms. “Matt’s been looking for you.” She studies my features for a moment, before leading me to sit down on the couch.
“It’s gonna be okay, I’m gonna call him.” Madi says, looking for his contact in her phone.
I merely nod, the voices around me fading to an annoying buzz. Madi rests her hand on mine as she talks to Matt. I can’t understand what she’s saying though, for everything sounds as if it were underwater.
I hadn’t noticed the tears falling from my eyes until I felt the droplets land on my legs. Madi, keeping a tight grip on my hand, says something along the lines of “Hurry up” before ending the phone call. She rubs my back in a reassuring manner until I’m being lifted into a familiar pair of arms.
“Matt,” I breathe out, meeting his blue eyes.
“Hey baby,” He smiles, putting an arm around me. “Let’s get you out of here, can you walk?”
I nod as he begins to lead me to the exit. Practically stumbling over my own feet, we finally make it as I am greeted by the fresh night air. Although cold, the breeze blowing lightly across my face was refreshing as I felt my lungs begin to open back up.
Matt sits with me against a wall, rubbing small circles on the small of my back. “I’m so sorry I wasn’t with you.” He apologizes.
Wiping the perspiration from my forehead, I look at him. “You’re here now, though. That’s all that matters.”
Even in the night air, I can see his cheeks redden at the statement. “Here,” He passes me my water bottle. “drink some water. It’ll help.”
Taking the water bottle, I take small sips to ease my dry throat. Leaning back against the wall, I tilt my head up to the sky to observe the stars. Instead, I’m met with a black canvas.
“This is what I hate about L.A.” I murmur.
“What’s that, the parties?” Matt questions.
“No,” I reply. “the sky. I can’t see the stars, too many lights.”
Matt chuckles as he grabs my hand. “I promise you, when I bring you to Boston, I’ll show you all the stars the universe has to offer.” He slides closer, placing an arm around my now shivering shoulders. “Although, the only star I need is right here.”
I snort with laughter. “I know you did not just say that.”
Matt smiles. “I knew it would make you smile.”
I roll my eyes. “Whatever you say, lover boy.”
Now it was Matt’s turn to laugh. “Alright,” He says, standing and offering me his hand. “let’s get out of here, hm?”
I take his hand, standing with him. “But what about the party, what about Nick, Chris, and Madi?”
“I wasn’t feeling the party either, plus they can Uber home for all I care. This should encourage them to get their licenses.” Matt snarks, leading me to the parked car.
“Fair point.” I say, quickly texting Chris, Nick, and Madi that we were leaving so they wouldn’t be searching for us.
Matt opens the passenger door for me, allowing me in. He gets in the drivers seat and looks over at me. “Where to, miss?” He asks.
“To the stars.” I sigh wistfully.
Part 2…?
a/n: if you don’t get the reference at the end, it’s from titanic. also, would you guys like a part 2 where Matt takes the reader back home to Boston and they go star watching??

sb - i think one of his red flags would be fickleness? idk if i would be able to explain it well but he mentioned before that he hates being adult because of responsibilities. based on that, i can see him expressing his feelings toward the other person but then suddenly backing out because he suddenly feels overwhelmed with the thought of responsibilities that comes with relationship. he likes the person but he might be indecisive on whether he is ready to commit or not. (Not saying this is really him but just a possibility based on what ive observed with those type of ppl)
yj - fixer. sometimes he might be too focused on fixing whatever he thinks need fixing on his partner and that can be really annoying. while his moon in libra and mars in sagittarius might help him be ‘chill’.. that leo and virgo combination is no joke.
bg -u’ve said it right. it is his pettiness that can be a red flag. also the lack of communication with manipulative tendencies! if he’s the wrong one, he will have no trouble apologizing. he’s nice that way. but if his partner is the wrong one? yea good luck. he’d disappear and will make sure to make them feel guilty for it until they’re on their knees— 😶
tyun - im inlove with him so much im willing to ignore 🚩.. kidding! look, i’ve seen his chart and a lot of his personal planets r making aspect to his sun which made me think that his ego (sun) plays a huge role in his life and will definitely be one of his red flag. rn we see tyun mature side right? but i feel like anything that will hit his ego so hard can make the vicious side of him come out. his aries mars makes him easily reactive to those things. when he’s triggered, the only way to calm him down is to leave him alone.
hyuka - low self-esteem. among the members, he’s the one with a really low self esteem (all of them have but his goes deeper) im not gonna explain much other than it’s not really pleasant with these type of ppl. u gotta be strong or else they’ll drag u down with them. he’s a leo.. a leo with a healthy self esteem r the best and i know that hyuka will eventually get there.
that’s all. i dont think im able to explain my thoughts well😭 but lemme know what u think?
+ anyways i truly miss reading ur posts! and saw that enhypen’s post too! i love it!! would it possible to request one for txt too? thank u 😄
- ur fellow intp 💙
OMGGGG I WANNA SAY SO MUCH
first i love your mind soooo much, second you’re so good in astrology
i absolutely agree with your opinion about soobin, this is one of the things that I thought about but couldn’t articulate it. in my opinion he is quite mature and he is the leader of the group which makes him mature even more, but it seems like that is enough for him? like, on the one hand, it’s not that he’s not mature for a relationship, but rather he’s just not ready to take responsibility yet. + he said that he is not the kind of person who would lead a relationship or plan something and therefore would just agree with everything that his girlfriend wants, but this is also literally an abdication of responsibility to some extent. so, in my opinion, he either doesn’t want to take on extra responsibility because he’s tired of responsibility at work, or he’s not ready for it due to his young age, or he’s just that kind of person (but actually i think it affects everything together and may change with age, like i don’t think that he will be a person who will become a super leader in a relationship, but at least he will be okay with the responsibility that comes with the appearance of a relationship)
yeonjun yes and beomgyu absolutely yes. if he has a fight with his partner and the partner says something offensive to him, they won’t get away with just an apology, and for some reason i think that if it really hurt him, he would remember it every time in all next fights. and also sometimes he likes to do something like checks? like that time when he blocked taehyun to see if he would come to wish him a happy birthday
taehyun yes too and + soobin said that taehyun often gets offended that he doesn’t share his feelings and this can also be in some ways a red flag for people who have difficulty sharing feelings or who just don’t like it
speaking of kai, i understood what you mean and this is really true, but it is in him that it manifests itself as not being so burdensome for other people? like i mean my work in korea was partly related to this area and i could see and sometimes communicate with different musicians/actors/dancers and other media personas and one of the most surprising things is when you look at them you think “wow this person is so cool, they are beautiful, they are smart, they are interesting personas, they have good singing/dancing/whatever skills” but when communicating with these people, most of them have very low self-esteem but they don’t seem to focus on it. i don’t know how to explain this more correctly, but it’s like the difference between people who due to low self-esteem really pull people around them to the bottom and people for whom it’s like something background that you might not even recognize right away. but idk whatever i hope kai can handle with this and it seems he has already changed for the better
and thank you so much for writing this!!! if you don’t mind i’ll leave a link to this in main post, people should see this too!

A3! Act 15 Chapter 19: Actor, Nanao Taichi
NOTE: I am still learning Japanese, so this may not be completely accurate. If you notice any mistakes, feel free to let me know!
Issei: Hey, this is the first time we’re having a one-on-one discussion, isn’t it.
Taichi: P-please take care of me!
Issei: I’ve heard from Tenma about what kind of actor you are, but as the president [of the Sumeragi agency], I’d like to be able to hear all about it from you.
Taichi: Y-you got it!
Issei: You began acting when you were a child, right?
Taichi: Y-yes!
Taichi: But I only appeared as an extra… And then when I eventually auditioned for Godza, I passed as an ensemble member.
Taichi: U-um, from there—
Issei: You don’t need to be so nervous.
Taichi: S-sorry!
Issei: After transferring to MANKAI Company, you’ve played as the lead several times, and lately, you’ve only acted on stage.
Issei: Could you tell me why you wanted to once more take on the challenge of acting in a film?
Issei: To begin with, why did you completely retreat from the film industry…
Taichi: That’s… I was in the same drama as Ten-chan, and his presence and performance on set completely overwhelmed me…
Taichi: No matter how hard I worked, I thought that I could never become someone like that, and I ran away from the film industry.
Taichi: From there, even though I turned to the world of theater, I still found myself failing. It was then that I met Ten-chan again.
Taichi: I definitely had a complex over him at first, but in my current theater troupe, I was able to gain confidence as an actor, little by little.
Taichi: Finally, Ten-chan acknowledged me as a fellow actor and rival.
Taichi: When Ten-chan called me his rival, it made me really happy…
Issei: …So that’s what happened.
Taichi: Right now, Autumn Troupe is heading towards the New Fleur Award, and we’ve all decided to challenge ourselves by trying to break out of our shells.
Taichi: I overcame my setbacks from my previous theater company on stage, so I thought I’d like to try and overcome my setbacks from acting in films, too…
Issei: When you say you overcame those setbacks, you’re referring to “Stray Devil’s Blues,” aren’t you. Tenma told me to watch the clips.
Taichi: Eh, really?!
Issei: In order to understand Taichi Nanao as an actor, he said I should watch it. He picked out some other clips, too.
Taichi: (Ten-chan…! Thank you…!)
Issei: This time, you want to get revenge on set for when you were a kid, right?
Taichi: That’s right.
Issei: However, even with the pressure of an important work looming over you, you picked this difficult role… you’ve got some courage.
Issei: Even though it’s just a one-off drama, the role’s of a young boy who lost his voice after going into psychogenic shock.
Issei: Among all of the offers you received, you picked this complex role well.
Taichi: Because I’ve been unable to give a flashy sort of presence, the only weapon I have is all of the knowledge born from the many experiences I’ve had.
Taichi: I’ve always thought about what other people think of me and how I can attract attention, and I’ve been observing what everyone’s attracted to…
Taichi: I feel like I’ve naturally come to express the little details like people’s gazes and gestures.
Taichi: Also, I’ve seen a lot of actors on a bunch of different sets, and I’ve stolen the things I’m jealous of from my co-stars.
Taichi: Carefully listening to my co-stars’ performances, as well as connecting to more delicate plays—I want to become an actor who can take advantage of both of these skills.
Issei: When I watched the video that Tenma gave me, I felt that I’ve been waiting for someone with a different kind of charm than him…I’m sure that you can become that kind of actor.
Taichi: Thank you so much! When you say that, I feel like I’ve gained some confidence!
Issei: Tenma didn’t only tell me about how you’re an actor, but I’ve heard over and over about how you’ve been his friend commuting to school together throughout high school and college.
Issei: Instead of going to a performing arts school, Tenma went to a normal high school because we thought that by leading the same high school life as his peers, it would enrich his acting life.
Issei: We wanted him to interact with people from his own generation and be inspired by them. In other words, we wanted him to find a rival.
Issei: That, and as parents, we wanted Tenma to make friends that were his age.
Issei: Ever since he was young, he’s been working with adults on the same sets, you see. Well, that might just be a parent’s selfish desire.
Issei: You made that happen, and for that, I’m grateful. As you take your first steps, I’ll be rooting for you.
Taichi: I’ll definitely live up to your expectations, President-san!!
Issei: Of course—but President-san is a little…
Taichi: Yessir, Sumeragi-san!!
Issei: Yes, do your best.
Igawa: Please excuse me.
Issei: We just wrapped up the interview.
Igawa: Thanks for your hard work.
Igawa: Taichi-san, starting tomorrow, let’s work hard in preparation for filming.
Taichi: Yeah!
Tenma: “What’s with your voice…?”
Taichi: “...”
Tenma: You should be conscious of the camera here—with the nature of the scene, I think it’ll come out better if you can effectively express yourself through your facial expression.
Taichi: I see.
Tenma: Not just as an actor of Mankai Company’s Autumn Troupe, but as an actor of the Sumeragi agency, do your best.
Taichi: Hehe, saying that I’m under the Sumeragi agency kinda makes me happy. I’m gonna work hard!
Tenma: How was the interview with my dad?
Taichi: Thanks to Ten-chan, it went smoothly.
Taichi: Ten-chan promoted me so much, I was really happy! Thanks!
Tenma: It’s nothing. I just explained the actor Taichi Nanao in a way that’s easy to understand.
Taichi: Once again, as both your friend and rival, please take care of me!
Tenma: Yeah.
Taichi: From here on, we’ll be coworkers at the same agency, too.
Tenma: That means I’m your senpai.
Taichi: Ahaha, Ten-chan-senpai!
Taichi: So that I don’t embarrass you as your rival, I’m not gonna hold anything back and really get you worked up, so get ready!
Tenma: Looking forward to it.
Tenma: …Speaking of, if my schedule frees up, I might stop by when your filming’s wrapping up.
Taichi: Eh?! That makes me super nervous, you know~!
Tenma: What happened to not holding back?
Taichi: This and that are different~!
#felt crazy so i need to tl this for me and the 4 other taiten fans to read in advance. thanks#i also needed it for my taiten masterlist#issei u get a pass Just This Once#taiten#🌻🐶#a3! translation#taichi nanao#tenma sumeragi#issei sumeragi#...?#igawa#.......?

Candy - Chapter 9
Word Count: 1256
August invites Joe into his inner circle. Or so he thinks... Cassidy awakes from a nightmare of past trauma.
MINORS DNI TW: sexual assault
Joe's nerves were palpable as he glanced up at August approaching his desk on a Friday afternoon after lunch. "Mr. Walker..." Joe's voice quivered, his face reddening as he stumbled over his words to apologize before managing to mutter, "August."
"I'm going out tonight with a few other guys from the office. It's a special, private gathering we arrange once a month or so. Would you be interested in joining us?"
Joe studied August's demeanor, recognizing the unspoken undertones behind the invitation. He was conscious that accepting would not only mark his inclusion in a secretive inner circle but could also be a pivotal moment for his career within the company. He seized the opportunity with a large grin. "Yes, of course!" Eager excitement laced his response, and he rose from his desk, extending his hand toward August.
"Excellent. I'll text you the details. Remember, dress smartly. Jackets are mandatory, but ties are optional." August's hand enveloped Joe's, his other hand resting atop their joined hands. "Although, they could prove quite handy." A wink punctuated his words before he pivoted to leave the office, a smug grin curving his lips.
Joe entered the club, his identification checked by the front bouncer before he was led to a secluded back room. Inside, August was engaged in conversation and drinks with four other men. The room had an intimate ambiance, its arrangement featuring couches arranged in a 'u' shape, centered around a large glass coffee table. A compact stage with a pole at its heart occupied one end of the room, while a door loomed behind it.
Accepting a drink, Joe settled into a seat that faced August, causing the conversations to halt as the group's attention focused on him. Joe's gaze shifted to the man positioned at August's right, a person he didn't recognize from their office. He inadvertently met the man's gaze, eliciting a scowl from the mustached individual.
August's authoritative voice then initiated the proceedings. "What happens within these walls remains here," he declared, setting down his whiskey glass on the table before him. The other men shifted their attention to Joe. "It's a rule that everyone must adhere to."
"Alright--" His words were abruptly cut off as several women entered the room from a distant wall, their attire spanning an array of lingerie. A realization dawned on him, and he comprehended the nature of this gathering. His voice trailed off into a surprised, "Oh..."
Suddenly, his surroundings became vividly clear as an alluring dark-haired woman approached him, her presence commanding his attention as she took hold of his hands, placing them on her waist before she moved to straddle him. "I have a girlfriend," Joe managed to stammer, his gaze locked onto the woman's blue eyes.
Laughter erupted among the men, and August nonchalantly shrugged. "We're all either married or attached," he remarked. A pause followed, and he playfully nudged his friend to the left as a woman settled onto his lap. "All of us, except for Lloyd, that is. But this is precisely why I emphasized the rule about confidentiality. You understand?"
"Yes, sir," Joe agreed, his consent given just before the woman leaned in to nip at his earlobe, drawing a soft groan from him.
August's gaze shifted to Lloyd, a silent exchange between them through a subtle nod. August sought confirmation if Lloyd had executed the task as requested, and the affirmative nod he received was enough assurance. Returning his attention to the woman nestled on Joe's lap, August provided her with a subtle signal, prompting her to lead Joe toward the backroom. He had meticulously prepared, placing cameras in the room with Lloyd's assistance, all set to capture the evidence he required.
As he observed Joe being led away, August's lips curved into a bemused smile. "Easier than expected."
"Well, he's more eager for your approval than he seems concerned about his supposed girlfriend," Lloyd countered, shoving away the woman from his lap to reach for his drink.
August regarded his friend with a measured look, familiar with Lloyd's preference for beautiful women, whether they were paid or not. "Not joining in this time?"
Lloyd's nonchalant shrug carried an air of knowing, his eyes deliberately avoiding August's inquisitive gaze. "No. I'm just waiting for you to show interest in what I've uncovered about our Cassidy."
"Our Cassidy?" August's retort was laced with both irritation and possessiveness, his tone a clear declaration of ownership.
With an exasperated sigh, Lloyd raised his eyebrows in mock exasperation. "Calm the fuck down. I was just teasing. No need to get all worked up. Are you interested in hearing or not?"
"Quit beating around the bush, Lloyd..." August's impatience seeped into his words, evident in his demanding tone.
The overwhelming stench of tobacco and cheap vodka clawed at Cassidy's senses, triggering a nauseating reaction as the acidic taste of bile rose in her throat. She recognized the familiar heaviness settling on her chest, an ominous signal of what was to come even in the dimly lit room. Her mind raced, a whirlwind of thoughts and scenarios taking hold, while her body remained rigid, trapped by both fear and painful history.
The man, in a drunken stupor, clumsily descended upon her, and a wave of horror surged through her. Her instincts screamed for her to fight back, to scream for help, yet the bitter reality of her past experiences told her it was futile. A paralyzing helplessness enveloped her as she lay there, bracing for the nightmare she knew all too well.
A suffocating sense of dread descended, amplifying her vulnerability. The man's invasive advance, forcing his tongue into her mouth, triggered an involuntary response, making her choke and gag. His thrusts against her body were painful, each motion a searing reminder of her powerlessness. Tears threatened, forming at the corners of her eyes as she fought a losing battle, weakly struggling against his grip.
A surge of anger and humiliation fought against her fear, amplifying her desperation. His fingers dug into her skin, adding new layers of agony as he bruised her fragile form. In her torment, she finally noticed a figure lurking in the doorway, a sinister presence whose gaze conveyed indifference rather than assistance. The sight of that dark silhouette further shattered her hope, leaving her trapped in a cruel reality where there was no rescue, no salvation...
Cassidy's awakening was abrupt and distressing, her body drenched in sweat as she propelled herself toward the bathroom, where the remnants of her unsettling dream translated into reality as she retched into the toilet. She flushed it away, leaning against the cool wall as her knees pressed close to her chest, her silent tears an unspoken testament to the lingering horror of her nightmare. The ghost of that man, the one who had haunted her past, had revisited her mind once again, despite the months that had passed since she last dreamt of him.
Gathering her strength, she shook off the grip of fear, slowly rising to her feet after a few minutes. She managed to muster the courage to face her reflection, studying her own face in the mirror. Time had evolved her, transforming her from the frightened child she was when she left that dark chapter behind. Though he was miles away on the other side of the country, she couldn't entirely escape his shadow.
The first rays of the rising sun caught her attention as she returned to the bedroom, snagging her laptop on the way to the kitchen. Sleep now seemed elusive, so she opted to immerse herself in her homework, hoping to divert her mind from the harrowing thoughts that had plagued her.

spy headcanon thread! just some of my personal thoughts and musings about his character :-) enjoy!
starting off by saying that spy is Absolutely Everything to me.. i've put his thread off for so long because i have SO much to say and im afraid i'll leave stuff out BUT we're going to take a Stab at it (😏) and i guess i'll just add more stuff later if i need! As Usual this is just pasted from my twitter so i'm sorry for any wonky formatting issues!
the most important thing to me about spy's character is that it is Varied and can be Contradictory. i say this about all of the mercs tbh but spy is among the Most important given his role/occupation as a spy. he IS A Spy, but he's also Just Some Guy (gender neutral).
spy is a bit dry; very sarcastic, a bit stoic, but he's definitely not heartless. i think he's very "emotionally in-tune" to those around him and prides himself on being able to read a room exceptionally well!
... but just because he knows what people might be thinking doesn't mean he's going to do anything about it! he likes being in the know but seldom ever enjoys interfering; it's best if he keeps out of the fray, or so he tells himself!
that being said, i Do think spy makes exceptions to this rule (which To Me is what makes his character Interesting!).... as we see in expiration date! he spends his "last living days" helping scout become a worthy date for miss pauling!
if he sees someone Floundering or really stuck in some kind of emotional squander, he'll pass by with a hand on the shoulder and a concise, discreet, kind word of advice in their ear and move on. no need for thanks, he's just Sharing an Observation! if you try to thank him, he'll give you a coy look and be like "for what?" but he knows. he's just letting you know you don't need to thank him <3
loves breaking balls. he'll help you if you ask him, but not before he gives you a LOT of shit for it. he'll volunteer himself to help you (even if you tell him you need his Stinking Help!) and he'll roll his eyes and say "ha! you are So helpless! i know you're glad i'm here to see this through with you uUu" LOL
but he will give you genuine insight and Surprisingly Good advice. huh, you didn't know he knew you so well! despite his job as a spy, he'll tell you to be authentic and will encourage you to listen to your instincts.
is an Observer First and an Action-taker second. prioritizes being in the know and likes being in the background (despite how good he is at being in the spotlight!). always thinks before he speaks, very calculated in everything he does!
got wiser with age. when he was younger i think he was quick to save his own skin and thought only about himself. among his first "selfless" acts were running out on scout and his mom to "protect" them, but with the wisdom of hindsight, that wasn't the smartest idea!
firmly believes in the power of respect. seems to have a positive relationship with all of his teammates (yes, even sniper, engineer and pyro lol) and scout's mom, too (regardless of how u see their relationship). tells scout that he has to earn pauling's respect to be worthy of her!
won't hesitate to stick his neck out for/work with people he appreciates. in the comics, he works with (and even prioritizes the safety of) miss pauling, helps sniper, and obviously comforts scout when he's dying in the way that Scout would want to be comforted. good job pops!
which brings me to dadspy... how i love you... i could make an entire other thread about my dadspy thoughts BUT i'll keep it "brief" here. i don't think he ever "treated scout like shit" nor do i think he was abusive to scout's mom or scout. he's just the world's most mediocre absent father to me... KDSKF
i think scout's mom knew What Spy Was and knew that at some point, he'd have to leave her. i think she's a perfectly capable woman who spy is genuinely still in love with (they have an open, long-distance relationship!) and is quite the deadly catch herself! perhaps i'll make a thread on her if that's something people would want....
i don't think she resents spy for running out and i think spy has complicated feelings about running out. he's convinced himself he did it for everyone involved's safety but in hindsight he Does feel a Bit (emphasis on Bit. it's not Earth Shatteringly Dramatic, just a little demon that sneaks up on him now and then...) guilty and tries to "make up for it" by Trying to get along with scout even if it's... not easy LOL. him turning into tom jones when scout died was to comfort scout the way Scout would want, which i think says a lot about spy's character.
however, once scout finds out the truth, i think he tells spy that he shouldn't have lied to him about it ("what kind of dumbass lies to their son on his deathbed! 🧍") and spy's like "ah... i suppose that... was also a mistake." and they smirk/smile at each other.. Road To Forgiveness begins..
also i personally love the running gag that everyone knows that spy is scout's dad (except for scout), not because i think spy would tell all/even some of the mercs but because it's SO obvious that all of them are like "i mean yeah.. doy". extra points if their knowledge Also surprises spy. "WHO TOLD YOU? HOW DID YOU KNOW?!" and the mercs are like ??? "erm... we have eyes...?" LOL
DESPITE being Stoic and Unknowable and Mysterious, he is also Quite the Doofus. one of my favorite and most important thoughts on his character. i think his authentic laugh is his snort laugh and i think that's what made scout's mom fall in love with him... :') has a great sense of humor.
loves playing pranks, causing mischief and being a Smug Cunt. will hide behind his Carefully Crafted Facade, but those who really know him (heavy, scout's mom) can see right through it! teaches scout some of his "best ones" (though not before pranking HIM with them first! it's okay though. scout's a good sport and gives him props LMAO)
a short list of spy's "best ones":
cleaning a glass door REALLY well and tricking the mercs to run into it at full force
oil on the kitchen floor so that anyone who comes running in will slam into the oven that engineer Just Fixed God Dammit! and destroy it
mentos in soda
scout and spy have the "same laugh" when they REALLY start howling. snorting, wheezing.... they sound almost identical. usually if they're laughing THAT hard, the rest of the mercs are looking at them like this >__> (covered in soda, can't get up from the ground because oil, etc)
obviously enjoys literature! language is one of his favorite things, though. loves learning about different dialects, slang, accents and learning the intricacies of grammar, too! likes studying the other mercs for this reason. the base is a fun, mixed bag for him!
the best secret keeper. contrary to popular belief, spy will NOT air your business if it's Serious. he might "let it slip" to medic that sniper sleeps with a stuffed animal, but he won't let anyone know that heavy has ptsd. he likes giving people shit, but not genuinely causing harm!
ah.. breaking balls as a love language.. this is something that i think is shared between spy, scout, and scout's mom. they LOOOOVE to give you shit, but it comes from a loving place. i think a lot of scout and spy's banter in exp date is like this:
it's not actually Insulting to either of them (spy calling scout a failure, scout telling spy to go to hell, etc) and is in fact more like a thing of Endearment. if you know people like this then you know what i'm talking about. idk how else to describe it KSDFKS
he is very girlfailure that thinks he's a girlboss but is actually a girlfailure and is coming to terms with his girlfailing. as i've said, spy isn't heartless. he knows he's made mistakes and knows his job has costed him a lot and now he's trying to reconcile with it. sometimes it's funny, sometimes its angsty!
is a total foodie and has a LOT of opinions about all kinds of cuisine! loves cooking with engineer and pyro (YES i think pyro is an INCREDIBLE chef. they only burn things because it's fun/funny! for the bit. you understand), and heavy has a perfect palette (just a personal hc of mine heh) so he always gets to tag along and taste test! <3
if spy is involved with any of the other mercs, scout's mom knows about it. they're in an open relationship and spy values her just like he'd value any of the mercs in a romantic relationship. she knows all of them and they're all very polite to her (ala like they are with miss pauling), but she quickly surprises them by being snarky and playful like spy and scout! she also doesn't hesitate to begin telling the mercs the most Humiliating Dirt on spy AND scout! HEHEHE
i don't think he'd cheat on her nor do i think he'd bother cheating on any of his partners. he's very open with communication when it comes to his interpersonal relationships (this is ironic to everyone but him because his relationship with his son is currently in shambles). he's good at it when it comes to romantic relationships though!
his love languages are, well, any and all of them! he loves being in love, he's a huge romantic and is not shy about showing it. will absolutely DROWN his partner in gifts and pretty words (that he really does mean!) and so on... perhaps to the point of it being a little overwhelming! at his partner's request, he'll dial it back... but he still loves to spoil his lovers, and THAT is something he WON'T apologize for! >:)
as i touched on earlier, has a good rapport with all of the mercs and pauling. he's patient with soldier and the other mercs hear him out about the bucket list idea (and are all Quietly Amused by how scout promptly ruins that for him. team dynamic ykwim). i think he's the closest with heavy (i'm a spoovy enjoyer), engineer, pyro, and sniper (BUT in kind of a "unique" way. perhaps i'll elaborate) but he enjoys the company of all of the other mercs as well!
is Informed about engineer's, demoman's and medic's research (though not on the levels they are of course) and likes being in the know about things going on around the base. he mostly shares enemy intelligence with these three over anyone else. they talk frequently and Love to gossip (engineer SWEARS its not gossiping but demo and medic are like "no. its gossip!" SKDFKSDF)!
will absolutely always enable you to treat yourself. scout, spy, medic and demo are the KINGS of "go on!! treat yourself!! :D" no matter what it is. if spy sees you really struggling about whether to get something, he'll slip it in with his own purchases and gift it to you later. "this one is from me, so you don't need to worry about compromise. <3"
in battle, he's a bit more sadistic than his teammates; likes making people squirm and is more than capable of getting under your skin. information extraction is part of his job and he treats it as such: Part Of The Job. he doesn't get a LOT of pleasure from hurting others, but he Does enjoy starring in a good revenge tale!
no, i do NOT think the world's most absent father cares about his 30 year old son's sex life nor do i think he's even "fiercely overprotective" of scout just in general. i think he knows scout is a grown man who has to make (and account for) any failures and fumbles he makes in his life. he'll be there with a kind word (and a few snarky ones!) when shit hits the fan, but he's not running around fighting scout's battles for him. scout loves battling too much to let him anyway! LOL
he teaches him things that Spy Himself values (like respect) because he... values it and since spy IS trying to be a bit more of a Dad to scout, it's also a reflection on him (to spy. scout doesn't care or think of it that way). insists on the value of self improvement! (something he himself didn't learn until he was Much Older... but scout doesn't need to know that!)
#ok FINE this is good enough for now...#-_-#hit tweet limit three times <3 i have things to SAY#dutchfoolery#dutchiehcs#mercthreads#<- yeas i have other mercs in there.. take a look if u want... heh#tf2#spy#rrgghhh sorry for the tags... grrhhh

marshall maximizer is a series song right. i think thats the only one ive listened to (yet), un:c did a good cover of it ...... what are ur thoughts on it whats it about . kicking my legs in the air
YES YES MARSHALL MAXIMIZER IS A SERIES SONG. theres so much going on in it u have no idea yes the song fucks verily but holy shit is it so important to the story.
okay so i think i need to give like. a quick reminder of the story here right. so u have "a certain world" & basically these people onset the destruction of said world such that it basically crumbles to pieces & then disappears. tragic. okay. but theres a catch. they get more than one chance to try. when one iteration of the world ends instead of really dying they kind of just. wake up in a new version. the world's still going to end in the day, but they get another chance to try and save it. the only real thing about it is any given person still has to have sight of their own goals or they aren't allowed to wake up next time & they disappear as well. this is, in the original song and afterwords referred as as being a "person" and having "one's self" or not having your self & being a "thing".
marshall maximizer is the explanation of this phenomenon (the later song laboratory being the demonstration of this concept btw to build off what this song says) among other things.
ill get to the lyrics in a second but the thing that always gets me about this song is the text in the middle of the video that's a conversation between two people. idk how to even go about this i just want to quote the whole thing at u. the beginning of its the narrator (perhaps not the same one as the lyrics but i cant prove or disprove this) trying to figure out the whole thing and the person working with them- referred to as "doctor"- basically says choosing who u are is an impossibility and if u cant prove ur alive of ur own volition then u arent even truly "alive" & won't have a place in heaven or hell. the narrator then asks the doctor to prove if he's alive for himself to which he doesnt answer and the narrator goes "Doctor, you have the appearance of a human. But, what of the possibility you're a 'thing' someone created?" to which the doctor answers "and if im not a 'person'?" and the narrator continues "Just as an example. Doctor, you said 'I chose this job in order to go to heaven.' And the reason you stay here is because 'if i can go to heaven, then it's fine to die,' right?" after this the doctor still cant give a solid answer and when the narrator looks for him again, he's disappeared entirely. which is nearly one to one with what the girls in the songs are going through. the doctor wasnt really doing it for himself he was doing it simply to achieve an end, with no real strong desire or goal along the way, which essentially turns him into a mere tool or 'thing' to achieve that end. much like the girls in the songs; they have to have something in it for themselves or they're a mere "thing" to be used, and at that point they'll disappear entirely.
theres also flashing text of 2 kanji words at the end that are a lot less profound but do give some insight on the series. the terms are broken up a series of three question marks & im willing to bet its describing the timelines in the story. the first 5 words regarding observing the failures of the past, the next 11 dealing more with what sounds like the more modern songs & all the confusion & rash decisions bringing them to their end, and then the last 15 words possibly being from the sort of future or at the very least whatever point in time the first song takes place in as it seems to lineup the most with shoushitsu itself. but its not like its as important to this song's understanding as the mini novel in the middle is.
so whats up with the lyrics then. as u can guess its not as fun as the song sounds. theres a lot of mentions of experiments in this song & ive seen people say its like the demon core thing irl, but i need u to understand the while series been talking about science experiments the whole time. like. all of aru sekai shoushitsu is talking about it, kyuuyaku is talking about it, shuuen touhikou is to some extent talking about it, oumen is, apoptosis is, etc etc this is just par for the course okay, but it does show maximizer in particular does have direct influence on experiments being performed or at least attempted. she is pretty casual about how she talks about it btw the character in this song gives me a very easy going type of vibe with how she talks which is probably why the song itself is the way it is and not like something that fills u with dread the entire time. though i would argue parts of the instrumental do sound like theres a bit of weight in them and its not ALL party time vibes.
one thing i do want to point out in regards to both the lyrics and the people vs thing topic, are the lines "ki ga kuruu HITO no furi wo shiteiru KIMI wo miteiru" (observing You pretending to be a Person gone mad) and "ki ga kuruu HITO no mane wo shiteiru KIMI e" (to You who's imitating a person gone mad) where both the words for person and you are in katakana drawing emphasis to it as well as mirroring how the "people' vs "thing" is written in both the background texts & previous songs. which is to say the narrator here is very aware of this other person not actually being a person. the implications here that since its "pretending to be a person" the "you" is a…. perhaps less direct way of calling out that its a "thing" or in completely transparent terms, is a person not acting on their own will and doomed to disappear. similar to this is the most recognizable lyrics in this song the "tabete sugu nete ushi ni naru/ okite mata nete hito de nashi?"(eating, falling right asleep, becoming a cow/ waking up, sleeping again, is that so inhuman?) is also calling on that "person" aspect, although not as strongly as hito uses the kanji this time rather than katakana. in any case she's still making the claim that despite all the horrors going on she's still acting as she pleases so she should still count as a person……right?(spoilers she does)(this isnt really spoilers because its told to u by the fact the nami no ne no motif is in the song) but it DOES show she's a little worried about it. not enough to full out panic but she sees other people no longer counting as people it makes sense she's going to worry about herself.
likewise the lines in the chorus "nante koto da! shindeshimau!"(what the hell is this! we'll die!" is much more likely referring to the fact if they arent "people" they disappear and are REALLY dead & is kind of worrying over that. like the line later what the hell is this! we'll live! is not really rejoicing at a percieved break in the case so much as realizing she DOES have her own goals in it and she's not about to disappear just yet.
and then of course i cannot overlook that this is also Sunk Cost Fallacy:The Song. the whole "sunk coster, sunk costess! 'i want to return to the isotope we had at the end!' 'we're falling to the worst of hell! falling!' but a dazzling unbalance diverged farway!" like on top of all of this she's still going to run the experiments that are risking her literal self to whatever extent that she invests herself in them. she cant give up yet. they've put so much into trying to correct this disaster, lost so many people, endured so much trauma, even when continuing is a sin, there's no other option but to continue at this point. even when they know it's pointless, even when they can see (to take imagery from kanon) the scales have been upset & the outcome will never be good, theres no other option.
theres a bit more to it but that requires getting sources from other songs & its not overly huge details its probably fine to leave them out for now this is long enough as is. one thing i do want to mention is its one of the side songs(songs that are not directly linked to aru sekai shoushitsu itself/not one of the kanji songs that links to certain lyrics in it) that has alliteration in the title (ma ma) as a way of keeping with the "repeating fractals" theme in the series. which to me implies this situation is not particularly unique to this character as some other songs are (oumen especially, touhikou, ashura, etc)(apoptosis i have an argument to make about but thats another topic entirely) and while maybe not 1:1 it can also be applied to other chara's experiences, or maybe implies its happened at other parts of the timeline as well. which makes sense since its common knowledge among the charas that some people are not "people" anymore so yeah i can imagine them keeping watch on coworkers they think are losing or have lost their selves. that doesnt make maximizer a general song though this is still VERY MUCH a subjective song from a particular chara's perspective & leaves things out & emphasizes others accordingly.
anyway my opinion on this song is that its VERY good and VERY important to get a good look at the story. the instrumental behind the tabete sugu nete ushi ni naru parts scratches my brain & the inclusion of the series "this chara lives" motif drives me insane.10000/10 everyone should like this song.
#asks#rottel#aru sekai series#the text in this song makes me sick like this concept is so uniquely terrifying to me im not joking.#laboratory still fucks me up if i think about it bc its THIS but a demonstration of it from the other side#like maximizer is kind of about keeping ones self#but labo is about having passed into 'thing' territory & the fear & panic & futility of knowing ur going to disappear forever#and of course that means nothing they did had any real meaning so essentially just throwing their lives and selves away for nothing.#makes me ill#anyway i love this song with my whole life & it deserves its popularity

if you assigned sea creatures to jesse + demi + baby, would they differ from baby’s assignments?
yes, they would!! baby's assignments are rooted more in like "this is the sea animal that i think u will like The Best :)", not exactly which animal they are Most Like. as much as i hate to let walt be correct in Any Capacity, jesse really is a blowfish: he has that capacity to be intimidating and violent, but just like how frequent "puffing" can be painful and even fatal for a blowfish, he doesnt Like doing it and would rather just be left alone to do his own thing. when they are left alone, blowfish can be territorial but mostly just docile and they also make incredibly complex sand creations for their mates (<- is carving a beautiful hairbrush for demi). demi is an angelfish!! specifically the freshwater variant. they typically have patterns that allow them to camouflage well among plants, which mirrors demi's tendency to blend in and not draw attention to herself. she thinks of herself as dull and unremarkable when angelfish are actually one of the most kept fish because of their appearance and personality!! peaceful, quiet, admired. and baby is a honey gourami!! they're a little tiny fish species with a really peaceful, but timid nature :') they typically can get along with others, but only if theyre also peaceful and safe, just like how baby enjoys being around her loved ones only because they too are familiar and safe. she might go darting away, but shell come out eventually to Observe

a little something i wrote at 3 am
for context, noel is my oc who is part of the strawhats. she was part of the group that went to zou first but chased after sanji on her own when bege took him. i could provide more details about her but i really wanted to post this somewhere first. she's 310 cm, just a few cms taller than jinbei. at this part of the story, she's been katakuri's prisoner for three days. the reason why she's not in jail is cause she had earned big mom's interest AND once did a jail break that caused chaos in komugi island. "why do u cover ur mouth when others are around." he stays silent, he wasnt just gonna show vulnerability to a stranger
"but youre fine showing it to me"
that, however, he can answer. "you dont seem to mind."
"fair enough" she says, mouth full of cookies before pausing to wash it down with tea. "but i don't see why anyone should."
if this was any day before this, he wouldn't even have thoughts of entertaining her questions but it's been three days since they've met. Whether he liked it or not, katakuri had already unconsciously figured out that she wasn't the villain he had initially judged her to be.
whether he trusted her or not, he wasn't sure but upon a little bit of pondering, he concluded that opening up to a stranger wouldn't be that bad. Especially when said stranger was an enemy who had no credibility for anyone in his community to believe in. "it's unusual. nobody around except for fishmen have a mouth like mine. not even my brothers."
"well yeah i have seen sharp teeth before but not mouth as wide as yours." she props herself on her elbows to lean forward as if trying to take a closer look. "and to think only you have it among fraternal triplets. it must be a rare phenotype."
instinctively, he scoots away from her gaze and he would've taken offense, if not for the sheer lack of malice in her voice. it was pure curiosity-- whether it be the sparkle in her eyes or the slight smile on her lips, he couldn't look away. as much as she was observing him, he couldn't help but observe her too.
"mind if i take a closer look?" he saw the question coming and yet surprise and dread still filled him as her words registered in his brain. "i wanna sketch it for future reference."
he must've made a face because her curiosity was quick to shift into concern.
"oh" she sheepishly smiles, "my bad, i guess i'm being too much.
and just after he had just resolved himself to open up to her— he seriously needs to have more self control. he was slacking off a lot today.
after closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, he steeled himself enough for another shot.
"It's fine." He settles himself supine on the couch, head elevated by the armrest. "Go ahead."
"no, no, you dont have to—"
"this'll be the only chance I'll give you"
as if a dog who had been told to fetch the treat, she hurriedly scurries to kneel by his side. She was hovering over his face, too close for his comfort but he'd rather get it over with than complain.
"can i touch you?" her voice was mindfully more quiet than the usual, making his head buzz unusually in response.
"yes" he manages to answer in an almost incomprehensible grumble. at this point, he was having a difficult time keeping a linear trail of thought. it was impossible to when she was even worse up close. her eyes, her nose, her lips. just when he thought he had done his best to keep his feelings at bay, he found himself in a struggle to keep himself still under her extremely close gaze./
despite his overwhelming crisis, she unknowingly and professionally examines his mouth. making sure to check every nook and cranny, her hands naively settle on his jaw and cheeks, moving them to her own desire.
"your incisors are longer than the rest, does that hinder you in any way?" she looked up at him and realized that her question had gone unheard.
noel didn't know why but the moment her eyes met his dazed gaze, she forgot where she was. noel was a virgin but she wasn't an idiot. she's seen that look before. in movies, in bars, in parties. she's seen people give that look to anyone but her. as they should. she wasn't someone worthy of receiving such feelings and for a long time, she knew she wasn't gonna receive any of that at all.
want? love? lust? foreign yet familiar, the feeling unsettled her mind yet stirred her poorly fettered desires to burn like never before. her heart swelled in anticipation and the butterflies in her stomach fluttered in anxiety.
was she even right? isn't she just jumping into conclusions?
as if responding to her intensifying dilemma, her hand unconsciously caresses the line of his jaw causing his eyes flinch and narrow. he was always so nonchalant and yet, at this very moment— even as he wore his calm facade, she found her answer in his steely gaze.
"can i kiss you?" she finally breathes out.

do u think aliens are real? if yes do u think they’re visiting earth, and if so are they abducting people or just observing us. if u think they’re abducting people… why are they doing it lol
so like. yes. i believe in 'aliens'. so for a long time i have believed in extraterrestrial life. i mean it just makes sense. space is so big that we have no way to even consider exploring even like, a fraction of it. and i just think overall like as a concept it is unlikely that by some freak circumstance that earth is the only environment capable of supporting life. however im not gonna like venture to guess what that means. you know like. whatever we have in our minds about what an alien is like, i think it would be impossible to guess correctly. bc like all of the depictions of aliens in media or what we assume theyre like is mostly like, obviously not human but fairly humanoid with like a head, two arms, two legs, usually two eyes. whatever is happening out in the depths of space i kind of assume it wouldn't create something so specific and similar to earth. but yea i have no way of knowing.
and anyway other than like just knowing that its likely that life exists somewhere else, its literally confirmed. i mean there are REAL documented sightings of ufos and someone alleged at a senate hearing in like JULY that "non-human biologics" were recovered from a ufo site. i definitely think that the government and nasa know a LOT more than we do about all of that. but yea anyway i believe in aliens.
if the ufo thing wasn't a thing i would say that i don't think they're even visiting earth. but idk. i guess they must be? however im not afraid of abductions or anything like that, i don't really have a way to explain all the people who have abduction stories, but i dont really think that is happening, i dont think theyre even like LANDING and walking among us. i just think theyre out there? idk its really crazy to think about. but also the thing is if they are making it to earth, for there to be ufo sightings, but WE don't know where they are because they are not in our solar system, they definitely are more advanced than us at least as far as space travel....much to think about

Smokin' Hot
Was having an absolutely miserable night last night, so even though I was not planning on posting this one until Monday, I felt like I needed a win so I finished it up early and shot it off into the universe. I'll be posting the next chapter of Double Isekai tomorrow, so stay tuned.
Oh, and if you haven't read the two previous stories in this series (don't worry, they're one-shots), here's the links:
The Joketsuzokunichuaan Saga
Description:
What if there was a "Spring of Drowned Warrior Woman?" And what if the Amazon tribeswomen were obligate impression procreators instead of just having a silly law about marrying outsider men who managed to defeat them?
Notes:
And, most importantly, what if you could write such a series without it being squicky 'bad end' fetish porn?
Like a Cat in Heat
Dragon's Lair
Summary:
Kasumi doesn't want to remember
Notes:
This one is...different from the other two entries in this series. If you know me at all, except for certain themes (Celestia is always Sunset's mom somehow, Ranma is always at least NB, if not transfemme, context is king, etc.) I don't like repeating things. Considering I already "repeated" Ranma's curse with Herb for "Dragon's Lair," I didn't want to give someone in the Phoenix tribe a Joketsuzokuniichuan curse and call it a day. A good part of this fic's story and structure can be laid at the feet of Tamsyn Muir and the way she told an absolutely batshit insane, totally off the wall, MAGNIFICENTLY managed Harrow the Ninth. If you haven't read The Locked Tomb yet, you won't have any idea what I'm talking about. If you have, you'll see exactly what I mean fairly quickly.
Preview below the cut:
"This," said Ku Lon to the gathered Saotome-Tendo families, "Is Plum. Yes, like the fruit. Her family have been serving as guides for Jusenkyo for as long as records of the springs have been kept. She took over from her father a couple of years ago and has been doing a far sight better a job than he did...and she's also exceptionally brave."
"Plum not know who to trust. Just know Ku Lon and Xian Pu good to Plum when mother die. So Plum come here when Jusenkyo start to dry up."
Kasumi fidgeted as surreptitiously as she could under the restaurant table. She knew she didn't really have a place at these discussions. She wasn't a martial artist, she wasn't bonded to or wed to one of the Joketsuzoku, and she didn't have any dragon blood in her family line. She was here because she was the 'matriarch,' for whatever that title was worth, of the Tendo family and so honor demanded she attend. She at least had the reassuring company of Hiroshi and Daisuke seated with her at the same table, today wearing some rather silly maid costumes in their female forms. The three of them had bonded over the fact that they had the least ability to do anything for anyone in this rarified atmosphere of condensed power and martial skill.
"Wait, the springs're drying up?" Ranma gaped, "Aint they been around for, like, thousands of years?"
Plum nodded, "Springs guarded by Joketsuzoku, kept clean by Musk, and fed by spring in Mount Phoenix. Three tribes, three legs of stool, is balancing act."
Ku Lon spoke up when confused looks spread through the non-natives to the Juusendo region, "While we don't have records of the origin of Jusenkyo, the legends of our peoples tell of the Amazons, the Musk, and the Phoenix working together in a sort of...mutually assured destruction peace treaty. The Musk would master the springs themselves, the Phoenix keeping the source of the springs safe, and the Joketsuzoku keeping the outside world from discovering the secrets of the springs. And in the middle of it all," she pointed with her cane to Plum, "The guides, only there to observe and to keep wandering visitors safe and direct them to the Joketsuzoku."
"Four months ago we got word of some serious troop movements among the Musk," Nabiki almost unconsciously put her hand on Jian's knee with a gentle squeeze, "They were positioning units in concerning ways, but once it was clear that the Joketsuzoku weren't the target, Ku Lon and I decided to take a 'wait and see' approach. We expected that if this was unprovoked Musk aggression, then the Phoenix Tribe would send someone to the Joketsuzoku to ask for help, part of the balance of power in the region. But instead...?"
"We got silence," interjected Ku Lon. "We, that is, the village sent emissaries, but they were turned away before they even got to the foot of the mountain. We then sent peace envoys to the Musk to see if they were acting on some sort of aggression from the Phoenix people, but our warriors were attacked without provocation. Fortunately, no loss of life, or else this would be a drastically different kind of meeting."
The Elder Emeritus sighed and sipped at her tea, "At least we have an idea why the Musk reacted now, if the Phoenix are interfering with the flow of the water from Juusendo, then the Musk, who use the springs regularly for their...barbaric purposes, would have noticed first. Why they didn't come to us..."
"Because my father is a fool," snapped Jianren. "He believes that men, and specifically the Beast Warriors of the Musk, are all that anyone needs for true power. He will see this as a personal attack against him, specifically, and everyone else is complicit in the crimes he imagines are being committed against him."
"Idiotic old lizard," grumbled Ku Lon, "What is more distressing is the news that the Kaisufuu has been found." At the expected blank looks, she explained, "There are two artifacts that were created to work in tandem with the Springs of Jusenkyo. The Chiisuiton, or Locking Ladle, and the Kaisufuu, or Pot of Liberation. When a silly young prince," Ku Lon nudged Jianren gently with the head of her staff, "So foolishly thought the best way to acclimate himself to the sight of a naked woman was to use his people's traditions to make a mistress of a monkey," Jian had turned beet red and was clasping her free hand over her eyes, her other hand held by an impishly smiling Nabiki, "He, now she, fell victim to the Locking Ladle, which was then lost when Ha Bu fled rather than deal with the ongoing shame of being a princess in a land where women were considered to be barely above animals."
"Legend said that the two artifacts will point the way to each other," Jian interjected, "I thought to take the ladle and pail with me to find the kettle, but then I was ambushed by some highwaymen in the deep backwoods of China. I overpowered them, but the pail and ladle were lost in the battle. That...that was the moment I swore off my birth name and became Jianren."
Kasumi watched as Nabiki leaned into her wife and the two cuddled for a bit. To her left, Hiroshi and Daisuke looked on as well, satisfied smiles like book-ends on their faces.
"Given the kettle was lost centuries ago," continued Ku Lon when it became clear that Jian wasn't going to say anything further, "It is only reasonable to conclude that the pail and ladle were recovered somehow and then used to track down the Kaisufuu. If only one artifact was the possession of either the Phoenix or the Musk, it would be bad. But given the Musk have been behaving defensively and the Phoenix have halted the flow of the springs, we have to assume that the Phoenix tribe has both artifacts and are preparing to use them for some reason we cannot know without more information."
The more experienced warriors, politicians, and martial artists began speculating, though it was clear they were going to be talking in circles. Kasumi looked over to the other two girls at the table and reached out, clasping Hiroshi's hand, "You don't have to do it, you know."
They both turned to her with confusion etched on their faces. In a bit of the puckish karmic humor Jusenkyo was known for among those who studied the magics of the springs, where Daisuke had the more common dark black hair of most Japanese men and Hiroshi had lighter, shaggier brown, almost blond hair as a man, as women their hair colors were nearly exactly reversed, though Daisuke's girl-form hair was closer to dirty blond than light brown. They had similar builds to each other, which had led to some interesting clothing swaps on occasion. Of course, they both had a masculine sense of feminine modesty, which is to say nearly non-existent, a fact for which Nabiki and Jianren had taken shameless advantage of over the years.
"What're you talking about, Kas-chan?" asked Daisuke innocently.
Kasumi just swept Hiroshi's hand into a two-handed grip and bore into the part-time woman's eyes with her own, "You know Jian is capable of taking care of herself, even against her father. Please, you know how much it will hurt Jianren, and Daisuke and Nabiki will be heartbroken."
The two boys-turned-girls looked at each other with sad, defeated expressions. "C'mon, Kas-chan," drolled Hiroshi as she turned to the older woman, "You know that's not how this conversation went."

ARC V MONTH DAY 4 - The Merriest Band of Misfits
A/N: Another late post lol srry :P
I wanted to write abt fusion squad, but i have a whole fic dedicated to em already, so i decided to write abt the fusion & sync duos! theyre another 4-person friend group i rlly love, u see :DD
Pairings: Yugo/Rin & Yuri/Serena
Warnings: None. They say a few cuss words but that’s about it, also expect some OOCness like witth the other things I wrote.
Earlier this morning, Yuri had invited her and the Synchro Duo, Yugo and Rin, over to "hang out" as he called it. He said it was about Yuya telling him to get along with other people or something…
—
It was gonna be a weird day for Serena, she could tell.
So here she was, sitting at a coffee shop in an Xyzian mall with Rin, waiting for their respective boys to arrive.
She and Rin surprisingly got along well after the war, as they were the orphans of the bracelet girls — the only two with no family before the war.
Other things were because she and Rin happened to be the most boyish of the girls and that they both grew up having to prove people their worth.
“What could be taking them so long?” Serena randomly asks, breaking her own trail of thoughts.
“Yugo, definitely… He's always late," Rin sighed.
Right when Rin answered, said Yu's finally showed up at the door and walked over to them.
“I apologize for being late, Rin and my dear Serena—”
“Don't-Don't call me that,” Serena interrupted.
But Yuri went on anyway. “—but you see, Yugo-kun here spent too long in the bathroom.”
“You said I had to look my best!” Yugo complained.
“You can style yourself outside.”
“Whatever…”
“Well,” Rin said, sighing, “at least you're both here. But, Serena and I told the waiter twice to wait for you both, you know. So try to be earlier next time.”
“Okay then, Yugo will try,” Yuri said blatantly. “Now can we get some coffee? And a croissant, perhaps?”
“No, I don't wanna stay here any longer. I've had enough of the place.” Serena got up.
Rin soon followed. “So have I. Let’s just go to an arcade or something…”
“Yes! Gaming time! I'm with ya, Rin-Rin!” Yugo cheered.
Yuri gaped. “I haven't eaten anything!”
“That’s your problem, cabbage.” Serena smiled.
“Hmph. Whatever. Just make sure there's lunch later.”
“There will be.” Rin rolled her eyes.
“And you girls will pay?”
“All of us will pay—we’ll divide the bill into four. Now let's leave!”
—
While walking to the arcade, Rin observed the whole of the mall.
With funding and support from Fusion as a form of apology, together with the efforts of many Xyzian people as well as Fusionists who were sent to help instead of being jailed, most of the mall has been restored to its former glory.
There were still some unfinished parts here and there, but overall it seemed to look the way it used to.
“Aww yeah, the arcade!” Yugo yelled, running into the said place with the two other Fusionists.
“Hey, wait up you three!” Rin ran after them.
“Woah,” Serena gasped, looking around to see lots of arcade machines, claw machines, driving simulators, and duel simulators, among others—all with many games and with their lights ablaze. There were a lot of people too, of course.
Ruri wasn't kidding when she said they'd have so much fun.
“Hah! Who knew Xyz'd be this cool,” Yuri exclaimed. “I almost regret being part of the war!”
“Oi, shut your trap, and stop being proud of what you helped cause,” Serena warned.
“I'm with her on that, Yuri,” Yugo added. “Starting a war is not something to be proud of.”
“Guys, I. Don't. Care. Now let's have fun!” Yuri ran off to the nearest duel simulator, also known as a duel terminal, probably.
The other two also bolted to their own destinations—Serena to this "Grand Piano Keys" game thing and Yugo to a claw machine with lots of cute duel monster plushies in them.
Meanwhile, Rin just got there. What's up with them just running off!?
She sighed and just walked to where Yugo was.
“Hey, Rin! I'm gonna try and get you that Melffy Pinny plush!” he blurted, inserting a coin into that thing where you put it in, which started the one-minute timer.
“Oh cool, good luck!”
With intense focus, Yugo moved the claw with the joystick.
The claw is so slow…!
Aaand there, right there above the plush!
He waited until the timer was at one second before pushing the grab button.
“Yes!” he yelled when the claw fell to the plush.
…before frowning as the claw seemingly, ‘couldn't hold onto it.’
“Aw, poor fusion-kun lost,” Yuri teased, seeing Yugo’s utter defeat.
“That's not fairrr!” Yugo shouted, catching the attention of a few Xyzians.
“Hey, look, it's alright, at least you tried!” Rin encouraged. “Keep your voice low, please. And Yuri, shut up.”
Serena walked over to them with a handful of tickets. “So I played some piano game and got a bunch of tickets… What do I do with these?”
“Yuto said you could exchange them for prices,” Rin stated, motioning to the price booth. “The more you have, the bigger a thing you could get, I'd guess.”
“Ooh, to another machine then!” Serena dashed across the place to what Rin could make out to be an Ice Ball game, with Yuri following suit.
“Yugo, you coming?”
The banana-head just stared sorrowfully onto the Pinny plush that lay in the machine. “Y-yeah… In a moment.”
“Uh, okay, then. I'll be with the Fusion duo to make sure they won't cause any trouble,” Rin told him, walking away.
“Okay…”
“I can stay if you want, you know?”
“Oh, no, it's fine,” Yugo assured. “Don't worry, I'll be okay!”
“Hm.” Rin nodded and walked on.
—
“You're doing it all wrong,” Yuri complained. “Put only a little force on it enough to launch it; don't put all your strength into the ball!”
“Hey! Wait for your turn!” Serena retorted.
“Tsk. Just saying—getting 3 to 5 thousand points is better than getting none at all or an occasional 10k then nothing. Remember, you only have—”
“Nine balls, and at the moment only one left. I know!” Serena interrupted, throw-sliding the ball into the road a little too harshly, it hit the fiberglass with a loud BANG!
‘10 thousand, 10 thousand! Please…!’ she thought.
The ball rolled off to nothing.
“AUUUGHHH!”
Yuri meanwhile laughed beside her. “See? Control your force!”
“SHUT UP!”
“And what's going on with you two?” Rin asked, approaching them.
“Serena never listens,” Yuri mocked.
“And Yuri can't keep his mouth shut,” Serena hissed. “Aha! I was distracted!” She gave Yuri a glare.
He smiled at her in return, but also looked into her eyes.
…they had a staring contest.
“That's enough now, you two,” Rin scolded. She looked around.
Eventually, a certain dancing game caught her eye. “Hey, why don't you both play that dance thing over there, instead?”
Serena usually would rather not dance, but she was losing this contest, and as such, she whipped her head toward Rin so Yuri couldn't see that she blinked. “You know what? You're right.”
She turned back to Yuri. “Yuri, wanna have a dance fight?”
Yuri smiled. “Ah, sure!”
And they left with Rin following them behind, thoughts of whether leaving Yugo was a good idea or not swirling in her mind.
“Look at me, Yuri!” Serena said, and she began the game.
Her swift and graceful movements amused him.
He knew she could dance, but still! He’s never seen her do it with so much passion.
A chuckle escaped him. This little competition is easily won by her… and he couldn’t help but smile as she danced to the beat ever so beautifully.
When the round ended, she got off the small stage and walked to him. “Did ya see that?” She then noticed how he looked at her. “Hm? What’re you grinning for?”
“Nothing. Only,” he laughed, “you’re good—I’ll admit that. And you win for now.”
Serena blushed lightly, not enough for anyone to notice. His compliment also brushed her competitive side away, just for a moment. “Thank… you…? Also, what happened to your condescending attitude?”
“It’s still there, that I assure you. But…”
He looked beyond her—to a kid’s basketball machine.
He saw that the hoop was easily within arm's reach of any teenager their age—meaning they can drop or dip the ball into the hoop with tremendous ease.
And also get a whole bunch of tickets in the process.
He grinned, turning back to Serena. “Rena-kun,” he called to her.
“What do you want?”
Yuri took a deep breath. “I'm gonna ask you a favor.”
Serena laughed at him. “That's new… What is it?”
“I'm surprised you didn't make fun of me, other than that laugh, but why don't we… Cheat the kid's basketball machine?” he asked.
“Hmm… What do I get from it?”
“Let's see… You can have 40% of the tickets.”
“50 and I'll do it.”
Yuri sighed, but he just caved. “Ah, you know what, fine. C'mon.”
From the other side where Rin was playing this remake of Flappy Bird, she stopped playing—which of course made her lose—as their words caught her ears.
She saw them by the kid's basketball machine.
Of course…
When the two got there, a kid was still busy playing.
The poor thing looked back at them, and when he saw Yuri, he froze.
Yuri smirked. “Boo.”
The poor kid squeaked before slowly walking off.
“Oh Ra, you didn't need to do that,” Serena chastised. “Buuut at least we got it to ourselves now, so let's take advantage of that and the kid's tickets.”
For the next few minutes, the two watched amused as the scoreboard's numbers did nothing else but rise almost every second as they both dipped the balls just enough for the sensors to notice.
When they finished, they went for another round, and their number of tickets also kept on increasing.
Rin sighed as she watched them, but her mood brightened when she saw Yugo jogging over to them, the Melffy Pinny plush from earlier clutched in his two hands. “Hey, Rin-Rin!”
“Oh, hi, Yugo!” She laughed as he handed her the plush. “Aww, you didn't have too…”
“But I DID have to!” Yugo insisted, bright blue eyes shining with satisfaction of being able to give Rin the plush.
“Well, thanks, at least.” She gave him an embrace and he gladly returned it.
“Ah, fusion finally got the Melffy, eh?” Yuri said, amused, as Serena continued to dip the ball in the hoop.
Yugo let Rin go and said, “Yeah, so? At least I care for my girl!”
“Serena doesn't deserve me, though,” Yuri said dramatically, making him get kicked by Serena in the shins in the process.
“Can't you be not annoying for once? And you’re the one who doesn’t deserve me.”
“I'm always gonna be annoying—and you all have to put up with it…” Yuri uttered as he clutched his leg. “And you did NOT have to hit me that hard…! What if you broke my leg!?”
He went on whining on the floor, which caught a bunch of people's attention. “It hurts!”
“Oh Ra…” Serena shook her head.
And, together with the synchro duo, they yelled, “Get up!”
“Gee, fine. I'm serious, though—it really, really hurts. Can one of you guys get ice or something cold that won't melt for me, please?” he begged, leaning to a wall.
“I'll fuckin’ do it.” Serena rolled her eyes. “I'll be right back.”
While Yuri sat on a bench to wait for Serena to come back, Yugo and Rin allowed themselves to enjoy the whole arcade without the Fusion Duo having an argument behind their backs.
Both of ‘em went on to play some 2-player shooting games where they shot some mechanical aliens to save some ship before going to play the classic Whac-A-Mole game.
“Yugo, stay focused!” Rin yelled. “You can do it!”
“I'm trying, Rin, but these moles are just. So fast!” Yugo shivered as he tried to pour all his focus into this one game, but he still somehow kept missing.
He didn't hit much, but they got tickets nonetheless, so he took those.
“Can I try?” Rin asks.
“Oh, sure.”
“Thanks!” Rin took the little foam mallet and started the game.
Whack!
Oh wow, this was rather easy.
Whack! Whack!
How could Yugo be bad at this!?
Whack! Whack! Whack!
“Woah, Rin, you're a natural!” Yugo complimented. “I'll help! I'll whack those you can't with my hands!"
“Wait, Yugo, I'm fine—”
And with her focus a bit deterred, she and Yugo went for this one common target, making her hit Yugo's hand a bit too hard.
“YyyyOUCH!” he exclaimed. The pain hurt so much, it got him kneeling to the floor groaning in pain, much like what Yuri did earlier, but a bit louder and without the laying down part.
She gasped at that. “Oh, you idiot! I told you to—! Sigh, you know what, just go sit with Yuri; I'll tell Serena to get more ice…”
After a good while, Serena finally arrived with two glass bottles of cold ketchup.
“What—why'd you get that!?” Rin yelled at Serena in disbelief.
“It was the only thing I could think of!”
“You could've just, I dunno, gotten some ice bags?! And ice??”
“Actually, I thought not to do that. Plus, we can at least use the ketchup for later, bring it home or something, you know? Maybe we could give one of ‘em to the boys.”
Rin doesn't know how many times she sighed now, but she sighed anyway.
After they gave the bottle to the boys—and Serena getting another scolding from Yuri for getting ketchup—they all decided to make Yugo and Rin race through a driving simulator.
“Rin, you can do this!” Serena cheered. “Good luck, and win! YuriandIhadabetandmywalletsdependingonyousoyeahpleasewin,” she went on with the last part quickly.
“What?”
“Break a leg—but not literally.” Serena smiled.
“Oh, alright. Thanks!”
And with le boys…
“Yugo, please win. Serena and I had a bet, and if you lose, I'm not just losing money, I'm also gonna have to dye my hair brown for a week! Can you believe that?”
The banana-head raised a brow. “How's that my problem? I'd honestly love to see how you'd look with brown hair. Also, you agreed to it, not me.”
But anyway, the Synchro Duo chose their D-wheels and started.
3… Rin gripped her handle tighter.
2… Yugo smiled, getting ready.
1… They both held breaths, then,
GO!! The words appeared on the screen.
And instantly, Rin and Yugo revved their motorcycle sims and felt it "move" forward.
The screen then showed them and several NPCs racing through.
“Wooo! Go, Rin!”
“Fusion! You better do this, because I'm cheering for you for once, can you believe that!? So don't you dare waste it!”
Vrooooooooooom!
The sounds came from the speakers with the machine, and the screen showed several terrain — cliff sides, cities, a bridge and even a concrete loop-the-loop.
“Woah!” Rin exclaimed, as she almost fell off.
“Haha! Now we see who's the better driver!” Yugo teased, laughing.
“Oh, you'll see who's better!” Rin 'violently pushed him off' the loop.
“Eek!” He landed rather safely, but it was still a bit uh, traumatizing.
“Yugo, you're gonna make my hair brown!” Yuri warned, clutching his (not Yugo's) head.
“I know! Calm down, I can still beat her.”
“You better!”
Serena laughed at them. “Please, Rin’s clearly winning.”
“Yeah, Yugo, how do you plan to beat me!?” Rin teased, a glint of slyness in her orange eyes.
Yugo's eyes trailed to their front.
Rin already used hers earlier, but he didn't yet—that “Turbo Speed Acceleration” kind of thing.
Rin's was still refilling, but his was full.
Meanwhile, they both neared the finish line.
“Like in a duel, Rin, my luck never fails me.”
Rin dropped her grin at that.
And Yugo took the pleasure of grinning this time. “I activate my ‘Action Magic’, Acceleration!” He triumphantly pressed the button.
“Nooo!” Rin and Serena shouted.
“Yes!” The boys cheered.
And in an instant, Yugo sped up right by Rin and reached the finish first.
“OHHH YEAHHH, WOOOO!” Yugo shouted, dismounting the runner. “I BEAT RIN FOR ONCE!”
He and Yuri fist-bumped and hi-fived each other with both hands and did the back-hit thing in those 'secret handshake' things.
“NO BROWN HAIIRRR!” Yuri yelled, making people turn to him.
“I BEAT RINNN!” Yugo exclaimed. He was so happy, he could feel the excitement running through his veins, and he ran to Rin who just got off, and they both almost stumbled to the ground.
“Woah, hey,” Rin warned. “We almost fell.”
“I'm sorry, it's just… You always beat me and—”
“Yes, yes, I'm happy for you too.” She chuckled. “You beat me—that surprised us both, and them, too, probably.”
“Yeah, a new achievement, hehe,” Yugo giggled with a :P face.
Rin smiled proudly and kissed him on the cheek. “So cute.”
He metaphorically melted into a puddle at that. “Hehe, hehe,” he kept saying, “Hehe…”
“Now it's my turn to say, ‘That's enough you two,’” Serena said, handing Yuri a few yen.
“No brown hair,” Yuri stated casually.
“Stop, I get it already—and it's getting weirder by the minute,” Serena growled.
“Well, what’re we doing next?” Rin asked.
“That kid right there! We weren't sure what he was doing at first, but we just figured out he was hacking into the claw machine!” an officer yelled in their direction.
“Hm?” Yuri turned to the guard and saw he was pointing to Yugo. “Aw, fusion got caught.”
Yugo instantly stood up. “Let's get outta here!” he squealed.
“We should,” Serena agreed, running off.
“Guys, agai—?” Rin was broken off by the boys going off, with Yugo dragging her arm away. “Yuuugo! What did you do!?”
“Sorry! I had to get the plushie, but the machine wasn't being fair!”
“Pretty smart, though!” Serena complimented, running backwards. “If I knew how to hack, I would've done the same thing.”
“But you don't,” Yuri once again teased.
She jumped on him and they wrestled. “I've wanted to do this since earlier!” Making Yuri go “OOF—!” with surprise.
“Oh, you think it's only you?” He fought back.
“Guys!” Rin grumbled. “Right now!?”
She and Yugo had to drag their own counterparts away from each other and out of the place until they both calmed down.
The rest of the day went by with lots of fun.
There was lunch at an Xyzian Burgery Shun recommended, then a walk in the park which included its own set of activities, laser tag, pizza, and a few other things.
Yeah… It was really nice.
The day ended when the two groups parted when they all went back to Pendulum, saying their good-byes to each other and leaving. To go to their own new respective homes.
