may or may not be accurate but i remembered this post and this came to me in a vision

okay i realize im fighting a losing battle here but testament means everything to me & i need people to Get It too

it's not a stand alone song its the second in a scifi series where the world is in a cycle of destruction & everyone is fighting through both the end of the world & the destruction of their actual "selves" (the thoughts, desires etc that make them human) to try and stop the cycle.

this particular song takes place early in the timeline emphasized by the "past" in the japanese title as well as written in the video itself. hiiragi magnetite has a very. particular. lyric sense when it comes to series songs but its so intentional & has so many little details. this one really brings out this character's anguish over the whole scenario from the descriptions of the world literally crumbling apart in front of her to all the long notes as though the only thing in her power is the scream about it to the the "bye-bye"s written with various meaning (with the understanding theres no time of space to meet, regret of leaving a of loved one, of leaving in an emergency, of leaving repeatedly)

it doesnt even stop at the lyrics because the actual genre of the song is made specifically to show off her frame of mind (same with all the other series songs!!) its heavy and intense in the middle it has the bells tolling the whole thing gives u a sense of something ominous impending and for a good reason. it has motifs that link back to the first song & tell the audience shes still a "person" in series context (which would be a whole other essay in itself but tldr; if they act of their own volition they count as "people" and are allowed to live but if they fall into only performing the job to do the job theyre a "thing" and disappear forever) as well as another denoting the song as taking place in the past all pulled off in a way that just FITS in a casual listen.

theres so many little details too from the intro literature thats a cryptic lore dump reminiscent of dante's inferno. theres parts of the lyrics where mata ashita (see you tomorrow) is written with an incomplete kanji while at the same time the last syllable becomes the first syllable of the next line. the whole song is 6 minutes FOR A REASON because the series is all about cycles repeating & this song in particular is showing off the "fractal pattern" it emphasizes & is also displayed in the art. the length itself along with lyric presentation is showing off the sort of one catastrophe into another that the characters in the series are dealing with

this is not even CLOSE to going over everything about this song since a lot of series details requires back and forth between multiple songs but its so so carefully thought out even if it has no chance of winning i want people to appreciate it in a little more detail

Keeping up with the Todorokis or, just me observing the Todorokis (Anime version): Ep. 13

So this is nothing else but a collection of informations, series by series, episode by episode about how the Todorokis appear in it, especially compared to the manga.

Ep. 13 In Each of Our Hearts (各々の胸に Onōno no Mune ni)

So this episode more or less kept the same amount of Shouto we saw in the manga, albeit in some istances the visual is better... and in one instance there's a tiny change that's not so great but... it's overall good.

We get a glimpse of Shouto as the area clears up.

The anime kept the scene of Shouto pointing out there's no need for them to act.

Todoroki Shōto ‘Sasugada... Ore-tachi no derumaku janē mitaida na...’ 轟焦凍「さすがだ...俺たちの出る幕じゃねえみたいだな...」 Todoroki Shōto “As expected... Looks like this is not our turn...”

It also keeps another glimpse of him as Kurogiri says the kids are just standing there.

Kurogiri's sentence is expanded slightly though.

This is instead what he originally said:

Basically the anime added they can still use minions and have the one that were knocked down recover right then, while the manga kept true to what Shouto said previously, that apart for the Nomu and Kurogiri Shigaraki had no other helper there.

It's clearly a change made to make things more dramatic and give the children a bigger role since in the manga Kirishima says to let All Might handle the dangerous guys and go help the others but there he was talking of leaving and helping who might still be fighting, while here he's talking about bringing down the minions that are there, but honestly is a not really interesting one since it's not like those minions will get to do something and seems to aim at making Shigaraki appear even more of a coward, as not only he wasn't up to face All Might but, to convince him to do so, Kurogiri also have to toss in they've other minions. Also, Shouto turning to check on Midoriya as if he were counting on him for the battle (when Shouto has proved not long ago he could take out all the minions on his own) compared to how in the manga he turns to check on Midoriya because the latter isn't leaving, kind of change how the story was meant to go... and also they didn't really do a good use of Shouto's surprised expression as he seems surprised for how Kirishima and Bakugou are willing to fight and not because Midoriya remains behind...

Kirishima Eijirō ‘Shuhankaku wa ALL MIGHT ga nanto ka shite kureru! Ore-tachi wa hoka no renchū o tasuke ni...’ 轟焦凍「主犯格はオールマイトが何とかしてくれる！俺たちは他の連中を助けに...」 Kirishima Eijirō “All Might will deal with the ringleader! We'll go and help the others...”

Todoroki Shōto ‘Midoriya.’ 轟焦凍「緑谷。」 Todoroki Shōto “Midoriya.”

The anime shows us a glimpse of Shouto as Midoriya leaves them as well of his surprise (the manga showed us only Bakugou and Kirishima)...

We gets a glimpse of the boys' surprise as the other Heroes arrive.

We get a better image of Shouto as the students ponder on what the Pro have to face.

They left Shouto's observation on how if the Pro gathered there it means the school wasn't attacked.

Todoroki Shōto ‘Kyōshi-jin (read: PRO HERO) ka... Koko ni kore dake atsumarutte koto wa, gakkō zentai ni shikakete kitatte koto ja nasa sō da.’ 轟焦凍「教師陣（プロヒーロー）か…ここにこれだけ集まるってことは、学校全体に仕掛けてきたってことじゃなさそうだ。」 Todoroki Shōto “Teachers (read: Pro Heroes)... The fact that so many of them have gathered here mean they're not attacking the whole school.”

Mind you, this time I'm reporting the sentence as it was in the manga... in the anime they completely left out the part about the teachers since it wasn't meant being read but only implied.

They added a scene in which Kirishima tells him and Bakugou to gather in front of the gate.

We see a glimpse of Shouto in the scene with Tsukauchi checking if all the students are safe.

They visually expanded the bit with Hagakure.

They expanded the visual of Shouto as he walks back to class.

I’m so happy that this got licensed!  I love Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon, it’s one of my personal favourite yuri series, so knowing we’re getting Shio Usui’s currently ongoing yuri manga next is delightful news!  Now we just need their oneshot collection The World is Only for You (Kimi no Tame ni Sekai wa Aru) and all of Usui’s major yuri manga will be out in English!

New Manga from the Creator of 'Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon' Licensed in English

On Wednesday, Seven Seas Entertainment that it has licensed Shio Usui's I Married My Female Friend (Onna Tomodachi to Kekkon Shitemita). The first volume will be released in December.

The publisher describes the series:

Kurumi and Ruriko made a deal: if they were both single in five years, they would marry each other. Five years later, neither woman is attached, so it’s time for a wedding! Marriage is full of firsts, especially for two friends, so they have a lot to learn about each other in their newly shared home. But will they continue this arrangement like two especially close roommates…or will a different kind of love bloom between them?

I Married My Female Friend began serialization in Comic Yuri Hime in November 2020 and is still running today. Ichijinsha published the third collected volume on February 16 in Japanese.

Shio Usui is best known for their shakaijin series Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon, also published in English by Seven Seas.
