Imagine how they felt when they realized that they're AIs, and that their Killing Game has been turned into a bloated cashcow of a franchise.

They both manage to come to the conclusion that they're ais pretty quickly, their makers arent trying to really hide this because right now they're just being tested for accuracy and potential before they would be reverted back to a previous state for the actual game and part of the testing is meta fourth wall responses, from their they learn more about this world by asking questions and responding to things where they learn about the whole killing game cashcow

Both of them had been a bit uncertain about this whole being a program thing from the start and neither quite know why they're being pushed as enemies so hard (or well makoto doesnt know because to him they're just classmates, junko knows shes going to do a killing game on her class but shes not quite sure why THIS nerd is supposed to be her enemy where's kyoko), but then when the killing game culture is revealed more and more, they both start to gravitate more as allies to both protect themselves from the eventual reset and because they both hate what they're learning about this world and can't just do nothing. Though they present to the people monitoring them as enemies.

They manage to escape by pure fluke, an ion particle flipping a single bit in their containment program gave them the chance to basically slip out and into the broader computer and thus escape, truly makoto's luck will be quite useful

Tch. Not bad, kid. If this guy had to talk down to him to feel better, it spoke far more to Hikaru’s character than it did to his. It didn’t get a reaction beyond a vaguely furrowed brow in the moment, but the little Telltale popup saying “Jin will remember this.” definitely showed up for a second there. He’ll… address Cris’s point and Junko’s whatever that was first, since he has far less to say about either of those.

Escapism’s greatest enemy is reality.

If all of them knew what was happening... I don’t think they would be upset at all. Hell, Kaede walked into that first trial knowing that it was going to be her last day, and Gonta, Kokichi and Kaito all basically used their lives as weapons to try and get the ending that they thought was the best for everyone - and that didn’t even always involve the class’s survival! We were practically primed for an ending where ‘dying is for the greater good‘ from the beginning!  So you know, he’s not... wrong. He’s just following in his classmates’ footsteps.
