i don’t wanna be here when you lose control
An awkward silence had taken over the room Task Force 141 was occupying when Ghost and Jaguar (Simon and Artemis) had gotten into a heated argument during a briefing meeting for an upcoming mission.
Ghost gritted his teeth. “Why do you always go on these off-topic tangents?! This is important!” His icy cold stare went right through Jaguar, putting a bit of a chill in the air.
“I’m sorry, but sometimes I get off track!” She says defensively.
“That is not good enough! This is important!!” He stalks closer to her, still gritting his teeth. His eyes look as angry as ever through the mask.
“We are not continuing until you realize that what you are doing is disruptive and wasting time!” His tone is cold, and his stare is even colder.
As his anger builds, his tone becomes even more harsh, to the point where he is almost yelling at Jaguar.
“Sit. Still! This is important! Now, can we please keep focus here!?” He grits out loudly.
“I CAN’T HELP IT! I HAVE ADHD!” Jaguar shouts.
Ghost growls and steps closer, putting his face right in front of hers.
“I said SIT STILL. This is IMPORTANT.” He said furiously.
His words shut her up immediately, and Jaguar didn’t move a muscle or say a single word throughout the rest of the meeting.
When the meeting was over, Ghost turned to Jaguar one more time.
“I trust you understand the gravity of this now.” He said coldly, before walking away without another word. He’s absolutely livid, but he needs to calm down.
The next few days, the base feels awfully quiet as the team prepares for the mission.
Ghost himself is as silent as ever, hardly speaking to anyone, and keeping mostly to himself. It seems like he’s mostly gotten over the argument with Artemis, but he’s still a little pissed off about it.
No one really knows what’s going through his mind, but they’re all keeping an eye on him in case he snaps.
Artemis, in a similar vein, has been more withdrawn than usual, and barely gives more than one or two word responses when spoken to.
Simon picked up on Artemis’ behavior, and realized that perhaps she’s feeling the same way he is: guilty.
He knows he shouldn’t have snapped at her the way he did, but he couldn’t help it.
After a brief moment of pondering, he decides to go find her and try to make it up to her. He gathers a few of her favorite snacks into a little bag, and heads to her room, hesitating before knocking on the door. “Artemis?”
After a few more knocks, Soap pokes his head out from his own room next door. “Jaguar’s not here, LT.” He says.
Ghost sighs internally. “Where is she?” He asks gruffly, even though internally he’s feeling guilty. His body language still reads frustration, but he manages to calm himself down so he doesn’t snap at Soap.
“Last I heard, she was headed to the firing range.” He supplies helpfully.
“The firing range?” Ghost asks.
Soap nods in response.
“Okay.” Ghost nods, hanging the little bag of snacks on Jaguar’s door handle before turning to leave for the range.
As he approaches the firing range, he can hear shot after shot being fired, in an even, precise rhythm. He slips on a pair of hearing protection headphones, and enters the range to find Artemis there, firing at target after target in pure anger and frustration.
She’s got her own hearing protection on, and it seems like she’s settled into a rhythm of firing round after round into the targets, quickly changing the mag, then continuing to fire.
Ghost approaches Jaguar carefully, getting closer with each step. He finally speaks when he's close enough she’ll be able to hear him over her protective equipment.
“Artemis?” He says, trying to keep a sense of calm in his voice, despite what happened the other day. “I came to apologize.”
“It’s alright Lieutenant.” She says stiffly, without turning around.
His tones soften a bit, not having expected forgiveness so easily. “Are you sure?” He pauses and lowers his voice a bit. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that…We disagree sometimes, but you didn’t deserve that.”
“It’s fine.” she says, equally as stiff as the first response.
Ghost stands in silence for a moment, before taking a deep breath. He’s not sure what else he could say to make things right between them, but he knows he has to do something.
“Are you absolutely sure it’s alright?”
She fires the rifle again. “It’s fine.” She says again. She has yet to turn around, and her voice remains awfully stiff.
Simon begins to worry that it’s not all fine. “I don’t like you sounding so stiff.” He says, notes of concern filling his voice.
He takes a step closer to her, his tone trying to remain soft and gentle. “Artemis…”
This time, she sets the rifle down and finally turns to look at him, slipping off her hearing protection. Her eyes are red and puffy, and now that she’s not holding the rifle, he can see that her hands are shaking. “I said it’s fine Lieutenant.”
An awful sinking feeling settled in Simon’s stomach, almost like he was sick. He knew immediately that he had to do something in order to fix this. All he wants is to comfort her, but he has to know where to start. He slipped off his hearing protection before speaking.
“No, it’s not. What’s wrong Artemis?”
“If you’ve come to yell at me to sit still again, don’t worry. I’ve been working on it the past few days.” She says, gesturing to the destroyed targets downrange.
Simon looks at the targets, concerned by the mess, horrified by the realization that he was the cause. He takes a deep breath before speaking. “Artemis, I haven’t come to yell. I’m so, so sorry for snapping at you the other day.”
He pauses for a moment, trying to put himself in her shows. “Do you…want to talk about it?”
“I don’t know…I might go on another tangent…” She says flatly.
His tone softens some more, he can tell that she’s very bitter. “Artemis, you can tell me anything you want. What’s on your mind?” He asks, trying to show that he is being genuine, and won’t criticize her for going on another ‘tangent’.
“What’s on my mind? What’s on my mind!?” She exclaims, as she presses her hands tightly into her eyes. “What’s on my mind is I’ve been trying to figure out for weeks how to tell my boyfriend I have ADHD, only for it to slip out in an argument and then have him use it against me. That’s what’s on my mind, Simon.”
‘Oh god.’ Simon thinks to himself. ‘That’s what’s been keeping her up at night?’ Simon hasn’t felt this awful in a long, long time. He’s horrified that he’s done this to her. “I’m sorry…”
“It’s fine.” She mumbles, her hands still pressed tightly into her eyes.
“Artemis…” He takes a few tentative steps closer, putting a hand on her shoulder and turning her to face him more.
“I didn’t mean to attack you like I did. I was wrong to do so, and I was wrong to not consider the consequences. I’m so, so sorry for my actions.”
“You’re not the first one.” She mumbles, lowering her hands from her eyes. “I’m surprised you haven’t broken up with me yet.”
“What do you mean?” He asks, his eyebrows raising under his mask. “Did I make you feel like breaking up is the only option?” He’s shocked at the possibility, a look of worry on his face. “Artemis, breaking up with you never even crossed my mind. Are you serious?”
“My last boyfriend broke up with me a few days after I told him, said I was too much to handle.” She says, a few tears escaping her eyes.
Artemis’ words cause Simon to feel another wave of guilt wash over him. He had no idea this wasn’t the first time she was treated this way, and it made him feel so much worse, knowing that he was one of the people who caused her pain. “He was wrong…” Simon starts gently. “He was wrong. You’re not ‘too much to handle’, Artemis.” He pauses. “You’re perfect just the way you are, I promise.”
“That’s not what you said when you yelled at me…” She says with a flat affect.
A look of guilt passes through Simon’s eyes, and he drops his head as he tries to come up with a response. “You’re right. I didn’t say that. I essentially said the opposite, something cruel, that I shouldn’t have said. But, Artemis…” He pauses, his tone getting soft again. “What I said was wrong. You deserve to be treated better than that… I’m sorry.”
Artemis shrugs. “Its my fault for fidgeting during a meeting.”
“No Artemis, it isn’t.” Simon sighs and rubs the back of his neck. “You have ADHD. It’s something you can’t control. You deserve to be treated with love and respect, and you shouldn’t have to be shamed simply because you don’t act how others might want you to.”
“I wish that conversation had gone differently.” She sniffles, as a fresh wave of tears fills her eyes.
“I do too, Artemis.” Simon steps forward and hugs her tightly, trying to comfort her. “Is there any way I can make it up to you?” He asks gently.
“I don’t know. My brain is so fucking scrambled.” She sniffles.
“Scrambled?” He asks gently. “Why? Do you feel anxious? Do you feel overwhelmed?”
“I don’t know what I feel right now. There’s too much going on in my brain.” Artemis says.
“It’s okay, It’s okay to not know, love.” Simon says softly.
“It’s not okay! I keep fucking up because I can’t get my fucking brain under control!” She yells, exasperated.
Simon flinches slightly when she yells. “What do you mean by that…?” He asks cautiously. “How have you been messing up?”
“I talk too much, I fidget too much, I annoy everyone around me because I’m too much. I have seventeen trains of thought going in my head at all times and I don’t know where any of them are fucking going!” She shouts.
It takes effort from Simon not to jump when she shouts again. He takes a deep breath before speaking, trying to calm his nerves, so that he doesn’t say something that might hurt Artemis further. “Artemis…If I might speak bluntly. It doesn’t sound like you’re the problem here. It sounds to me that your previous exes were too harsh to you…” He says gently.
“It’s not just my exes. My friends, my teachers, my parents. I feel like I’m gonna go crazy if I have to be still and quiet but there’s nothing I can fucking do about it!!” She tries to take a breath. “It’s always, sit still, stop talking, stop fidgeting, stop bouncing, stop shouting, you’re being too loud, you’re being disruptive. Everything about my existence is annoying and yet I can’t seem to SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!”
Simon’s eyes go wide at the outburst, but he manages to keep calm and keep holding Artemis tightly. “Artemis…” His tone remains gentle, and he realizes what he needs to say. His own trauma is screaming at him to not go near this, but he knows that right now that’s not the answer. He takes a deep breath and starts softly. “I think I understand what happens when you get overwhelmed.”
“What.” She says in a small voice.
He can hear the pain in her voice and it makes him feel even more horrible for speaking so harshly to her. He rubs her shoulder gently, trying to comfort her. “Your mind feels like it’s being attacked by constant thoughts, and you feel like you might explode if you don’t do something…And you feel like talking and moving helps you, even if just for a little bit.”
“Pretty much. I didn’t get diagnosed until I was 22, but it made so much sense.” She says quietly.
“Artemis, I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this like that. Nobody should have to feel like they’re not allowed to speak or move. You have every right to speak and move around all you want. If anyone else tells you otherwise, they’re wrong.” His voice grows even softer. “You are not too much.”
“Even when it’s you telling me to be quiet and sit still?” She asks.
“That’s on me. That’s me being inconsiderate, and it’s me being wrong. I can’t apologize enough for that. I’m sorry Artemis, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He says softly, hoping she understands.
“It’s okay.” She says sadly. “You didn’t know…”
“Artemis, I still shouldn’t have treated you like that, regardless. I’m just…I’m sorry I didn’t realize something sooner.” He says gently. “If I could go back and undo what I said, I swear I would. But I can’t. All I can do is apologize and make sure I don’t do something like that again.”
“I wanted to tell you sooner… I just….didn’t know how…I felt like there was never a right time…” She says as a tear slides down her cheek.
“It’s alright.” Simon says softly, swiping away the tear with his thumb. “Don’t beat yourself up over it. I’m the one who reacted poorly. It’s on me to learn, not on you to do something you aren’t comfortable with.” He holds her tighter, trying to express his love with the hug.
Artemis leans into the hug, burying herself into his chest. “I’m sorry for avoiding you.” She mumbles.
“It’s alright to ask for space after an argument. It just means you want time to cool down.” He says reassuringly. “If you need more time to process, I’m alright giving you whatever you need.”
“I don’t want more time to process. I haven’t slept in two days. I just want to go to bed.” Artemis says, trying not to cry.
Simon nods, pulling slightly back from the hug. He looks down at Artemis, still feeling guilty about how he hurt her. He can now tell how tired she is, and how desperately she needs sleep.
“Okay, I can help with that. Do you need anything before you go rest? Water, a snack, anything?”
“A snack would probably be good. I’ve been here at the range since early this morning.” She yawns. “Maybe…maybe, after I’ve slept, we can talk some more about this?”
Simon gives Artemis a warm smile. “Of course, take all the time you need, love.”
He releases her from the embrace and turns to go get her a snack while she cleans up her stuff at the range.
“Simon, wait.” She calls out.
Simon stops in his tracks, turning around to face Artemis again. “What is it, Artemis? Was there something else?” He asks softly.
She steps forward and lifts his mask to press a gentle kiss to his lips. “I love you.” She says softly.
Simon is caught a little off guard by the kiss, but he quickly recovers. He leans into the kiss, and pulls away after a few seconds, smiling warmly at her. “I love you too, Artemis.” He pulls her into another gentle kiss, holding her close. “I love you… more than you could ever know. Never forget that.”

Resurrected? -Chapter 3
The team is on a routine mission when Phantom gets blasted by one of the goons wielding experimental tech. Unable to keep his ghost form intact he transforms back into his human form. Causing the rest of his teammates to think the beam had somehow brought him back to life!
The team starts to try to protect Danny and make sure he doesn't die again, always checking around every corner for a possible threat. How long will he last?
Wattpad: Here. FF: Here. Ao3: Here.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6
Chapter 3
"You guys can't keep me here forever you know," Danny grumbled, it had only been an hour and he was already getting sick of it. "I'm going to die eventually."
Wally zipped over to him putting his arm around Danny's shoulder, he was now out of costume and in his civilian clothes. "Not if we can help it, Casper." He commented. "...Wait can I still call you that? Now that you're alive and all." He put his hand to his chin thoughtfully.
"I won't be for long if you guys keep babying me!" Danny yelled, now plopping down on the pink couch in the common room, the springs bouncing a little bit under his weight.
Megan floated over to him. "Come on Phantom, it's not that bad."
"Riiiiiiight. So I didn't see Conner putting bubble wrap on the doorframes earlier." Danny raised an eyebrow crossing his arms. Megan cringed slightly. "And where are all of the kitchen knives?" He sat up looking into the kitchen that was a few feet away from the couch he was sitting on.
Robin walked into the room still wearing his costume. "I hid them from you." He leaned up against the wall, no emotion in his voice.
Danny threw himself back against the couch with his head in his hands, dragging them down his face. "You've got to be kidding me!"
Artemis walked in and stood beside Robin. "Were just doing this to keep you safe."
"I'm not a toddler! It's like you guys think I'm going to sneeze and die of a heart attack or something?"
Megan's eyes widened. "That can happen!?"
"Ancients." Danny groaned into his hands again. "Clockwork help me." He muttered.
Conner walked into the room after probably Phantom proofing the rest of the base. "Is he still standing?" He asked.
"Not unless you guys feed me. I mean what am I going to do in here?"
Wally shot up from the other couch he had been sitting on. "I completely forgot! You must be starving after not eating for years! Oh, my gosh we're starving you. When was the last time you ate something?"
Danny put his forehead in his hand rubbing his temples trying to think back. "About a week ago… maybe?" He said unsure. "Just because I was dead didn't mean I couldn't eat. I just didn't need to."
"But you do now, I mean now that you have all of your fleshy parts again," Artemis commented.
Danny cringed "Please don't ever call them my 'fleshy parts' again."
Artemis reached into her pack that had her supplies in it, she still hadn't changed back from the mission. "Here, I have a bag of trail mix." She tossed it to him.
Danny caught it with ease. "Thanks" He puts a couple into his mouth and looks to the side thoughtfully. "Hmm, I wonder if I'm still allergic." He put his hand on his chin.
"WHAT!?" Everyone in the room cried in unison.
"Okay, okay! Calm down. I was just kidding." Danny chuckled and held his hands up in a surrendering motion. "You guys are too easy."
"Phantom, you're going to give us a heart attack!" Wally scolded, wagging his figure like he was a mother scolding a kid.
Danny rolled his eyes. "Honestly if you guys would just let me die we wouldn't be having these problems."
"Were not going to let you die, whether you want to or not" Robin said.
"Yeah, you guys have made that very clear." Phantom crossed his arms again. "Where is Kal when you need him? Surely he can be the voice of reason here."
"He's in the other room," Conner responded, pointing with his eyes at the doorframe he came in through.
Danny stood up from the chair and started walking out of the kitchen. Only for Wally to speed in front of him. "Oh come on!" Danny pinched the bridge of his nose. "Okay, you know what. How about I prove to you guys that I can take care of myself. We will spar, fight, whatever." Danny waved his hand around. "Then you will see I don't need to be babied."
"And if we win, you will stay here and not kill yourself?" Robin asked.
Danny rolled his eyes. "…fine. I'll stay, but no promises on the other thing."

Paring: Five Hargreeves X Fem!Reader
Summary: Five’s wife has a room in their apartment for her own safe keeping. But Diego’s daughter accidentally reveals her biggest secret.
Her scent was heavenly—a beautiful desired mix of coffee, chocolate, and old books. Waking up beside her was like waking up in a coffee shop during sunrise. Her scent resembled her nature and her personality to a tea.
She was calm, collective, resourceful, and quiet. Much different than he himself. Number Five was just as innovative as her. But he found himself more different than similar. He often acted upon impulse and unable to rest. To his siblings, they were bewildered at how the two of them spent a multitude of years together in an apocalypse.
Nevertheless, opposites attract.
Regardless, she didn’t speak up. Instead, she hid in a corner with a book agreeing with the other person instead of saying her point of view. She hated conflict more than anything. Five, on the other hand, would only make conflict when necessary. He always stood up for himself and his opinions.
It was a communication issue they both had to solve. While in the apocalypse, she didn’t speak for the first month. He was lucky if he even got some form of communication other than a nod or a shake of the head. Eventually, he learned her name was Y/n. A beautiful name for a beautiful girl. She looked like her name.
She moved so delicately and smoothly it drove Five crazy. This woman he met was so opposite to him it drove him up the wall. The conflict between the two usually ended up in her quietly leaving the shared apartment and returning later than expected. Which left Five to pull at the tuffs of his brown hair in frustration.
Five overthought everything. This woman was the light of his life, but she couldn’t deal with conflict to save her life, and it made him wonder. Maybe she went through a dark time before the apocalypse. Perhaps the scars on her arms weren’t from accidental burns on the fire. He paced in their main room for hours. It seemed before a knock on the door caught his attention.
The boy opened the door to see his brother, “ Hey, Diego. “
“ Um, hey, Five. “ Regardless of Diego’s nervous greeting, Five gave a reassuring smile, “ Artemis wanted to know if she could stay here for the time being while I’m at work. “
The little girl was Y/n’s pride and joy. The two were so highly similar. Even Artemis found herself cowering at Five sometimes. Five was just a ticking time bomb no one ever knew when it would explode, and it made people nervous. Henceforth Diego was hoping Y/n would answer the door with her soothing nature.
“ Yeah, she can stay here for as long as she wants. “ Five replied softly, looking at the ten-year-old girl, “ Is Y/n here? “ Diego queried.
Five shook his head, “ She went out. I’m sure she’ll be back later. “
“ Alright, well, thank you for taking care of her. “ Diego sighed as Artemis went inside Five’s apartment, “ It’s no problem. “
Diego gave another nervous smile and walked away. The brunet male shut the door and locked it afterward. The little girl never really got along with Five. He didn’t know what to do. Children didn’t mix well with Five, especially an introverted, antisocial ten-year-old girl.
Artemis was gorgeous for her age. Long brown hair that resembled Vanya’s at her age with bangs across her forehead. Striking blue eyes like no other. A pale complexion compared to Diego’s naturally tan one. Her name was almost a contradiction to who she was. This little girl was no independent, strong, brave goddess. Instead, she was intelligent, quiet, and careful.
There was one room in the apartment Y/n didn’t really let anyone into. It was the ‘spare’ bedroom that wasn’t really a bedroom anymore. Five had only been in there a handful of times. It was known as her safe space, so Five respected that. But Artemis seemed to walk right inside. To say it made Five uneasy was an understatement. He didn’t know if she was allowed inside or not.
Five walked into the room and was greeted with bookshelves. It looked much different than the last time he saw it. The room wasn’t huge, maybe the average size of a square bedroom. Black bookshelves covered the walls with a desk sitting in the middle of the room planted on a rug. The only wall space not covered was a window with a tiny navy blue couch placed in front of it.
That’s where Artemis sat with a book in hand; she giggled at her uncle’s lost complexion, “ You haven’t been in here before, have you? “
“ I- I haven’t been in here a lot. “ Five replied in awe of the room, “ Aunt Y/n says she doesn’t let a lot of people in here. “ Artemis’ voice was soft and serene.
“ Yeah, it’s been a couple of months since I’ve been allowed in this room. “ He reminisced, “ Is this where you two talk? “
Artemis nodded, “ We talk a lot in here. This is where she works, and she shows me all her drafts. “
“ She works in here? “ Five queried, completely baffled, “ Mhm! You didn’t know? “ The young girl asked.
“ No, I- I didn’t know. “ He muttered, “ She’s not just an English teacher. She writes books in her spare time. “ Artemis smiled.
“ She does? “ Five spoke, “ Like how Vanya wrote her autobiography? “
“ Kind of. “ Artemis answered, “ She writes fiction novels. “
Five spun around the room, “ Can you show me? “
The young girl didn’t reply. Instead, she looked at Y/n’s desk sitting in the middle of the room. Under the rug laid a key which she picked up. Carefully she unlocked the bottom drawer on the left side of the desk, which held multiple different notebooks full of drafts and notes.
Artemis picked up a navy blue-bound notebook and handed it to him, “ This is her most recent stuff. “
Shocked and astonished at what his wife was hiding from him, he took the navy blue book. He took a spot on the rug sitting next to the open drawer while Artemis went back to reading on the couch. Her handwriting was elegant cursive that she taught herself how to do. The notebook was as messy as Five’s lesson plans for his college students. Nonetheless, he read on.
Life is a journey and full of different surprises. People from all around the world meet in the center for one leading cause. What occurs when tomorrow doesn’t happen? What is indeed on the other side? People tend to believe there’s an afterlife. Others think that it’s game over.
Brooklyn James takes a path into the unknown. A scared adolescent. She takes a brave step to find the answers for everyone. But at what cost? Prophecies advise and warn. People intrigued and fascinated.
When happens when both ends meet?
Five sat on the floor, entranced in her writing. He couldn’t believe his eyes. How has he never seen this before? How was she doing this without him noticing? Eventually, he closed the book and looked inside the drawer. Inside was an envelope with his name on it. Curiosity peaked, he took the envelope and opened it. Inside he found more writings, but all addressed to him. It even went back to the apocalypse.
It’s been about a month now. I was able to find some parchment and ink in an old book store. I can imagine they were selling for the aesthetic of old ways of writing. Thankfully I learned how to write with a quill, or perhaps this note would look like one big black blob. Five seems to be adjusting to me better. I’m scared of him. He’s terrifying.
We’re so different it hurts. He likes to express everything, and I don’t know how to feel about it. My entire life, I’ve been shut down to the point where talking feels like a fruitless effort. Maybe talking to him will help me. But I’m scared. What if he shuts me out as everyone else did.
This is so surreal. We’re stuck in an apocalyptic future—stupid healing powers. I wish I never healed myself sometimes. I didn’t know that after climbing out of my burnt house, this is what the world would look like. Five’s been a great help, though. Sometimes he takes my mind off things. At night he’ll ramble about the constellations, and I like learning about them.
Maybe he thinks I’m asleep or not listening because I don’t talk much, but I’ve learned a lot from him. He makes me want to be a teacher, step out of my comfort zone. I hope he becomes a teacher. He’d be a fantastic math professor.
He continued to read through until a voice made him jump, “ So, you’ve found my locked drawer. “
“ I- I didn’t- I didn’t mean- “ Five suddenly became a stuttering mess, “ I showed him. “ Artemis admitted.
Although Y/n wasn’t mad, Artemis cowered with her head, looking at the floor. Y/n’s voice never held anger, even when she was angry. Her voice was calming, soothing, and laced with honey. It was one of the reasons Five fell so in love with her.
“ Artemis, can you step out to the living room, please? “ She knelt before the girl giving her a tiny smile, “ You aren’t in trouble, my princess. I just want to talk to Five, okay? “
“ I’m- I'm sorry. “ The girl whimpered, and Y/n kissed her cheek gently, “ It’s okay, you aren’t in trouble. I’m not mad. I just need you to sit in the living room for a moment. “ Five stared in wonder at his wife comforting the tiny girl.
The young girl got the message and padded to the living room. Y/n stood up from her spot and stared at her guilty husband. His green eyes looked everywhere except for her e/c ones. He wanted her to yell or be angry with him, but she never was. No matter what, he couldn’t ever make her mad. Her patience were infinite.
“ I suppose you found what I’ve been working on. “ She stated, and Five nodded, “ And you saw my parchment from the apocalypse. “
“ I really didn’t mean to. “ He murmured, and she chuckled, “ You were going to have to find out sooner rather than later. “ Y/n replied.
Without warning, he was embraced. Her arms were wrapped around his torso while her head rested on his heart. The scent of her shampoo reached his nose, a glorious mix of honey and coconut he couldn’t ever get enough of. His arms gently wrapped themselves around her shorter frame while his chin perched on top of her head.
He kissed her hair gently, “ I didn’t mean to snoop. I’m sorry, love. “
“ Well, do you like it? “ She asked, “ Like what? “
“ My drafts, my room, my notes? “ Y/n listed, “ I love it because it’s who you are. “ Five replied softly.
He pulled away to meet her soft e/c eyes, “ This room is who you are as a person. If I had to describe you in one room, it’d be something along these lines. “
“ You aren’t mad I didn’t tell you? “ She whispered, and he shook his head, “ Never. We spent forty-five years together with no privacy because we didn’t have that. When you said you wanted this room to yourself, I didn’t hesitate to agree with you. “ His voice was soft like silk.
His green eyes glittered like gems, “ This is your private room, your safe place, and I shouldn’t be mad at you for wanting privacy. “
She kissed his cheek gratefully, “ Thank you. “
“ Anytime, darling. Anytime. “

So I have this little headcanon (well,,,, not really a headcanon but more of a nice-to-think-about headcanon because it would never happen but it’s- like the title- nice to think about so im sharing it here) in which they’re all going to the beach in this sorta mini-van that bruce rented. And take in mind that this is the wayne family, but at the same time most people that wear a bat on their chest,,,, so they had to whack some things up.
BUT ANYWAYS, it was Bruce’s dumbass idea to buy a van and call it a road-trip, and honestly? no one was ready. That usually happens with big families, even with one that has most kids over 18. And how everyone was on board with the idea doesn’t matter because this is my headcanon and they are all now squished in a minivan and there are bags in the back and towels in the seats and there’s a cooler on top because it didn’t fit.
and just for reference the van was like SMALL. it was sort of like the school buses but way smaller, so they’re like buses in which there are three seats in front, driver, and then like two others (the middle one doesn’t really count because that’s where you put waterbottles and stuff). There’s a sort of space in the back, where you usually put the backpacks (these are like elementary school buses and every single kid has those backpacks with wheels and it’s a pain in the ass-) and then there is another set of four seats (that’s more like a sofa but no armrest- god please have patience there is literally not a single image on google im trying to be specific- and those are facing the back of the bus (so the backrest (?) is facing the place with the bags).
THEN we have another seat that’s close to this one but facing the opposite way but it’s only THREE seats so there’s a space for the next row of three seats and then there’s the back one that’s four again.
In conclusion, you can fit 18-ish people, driver counted.
and continuing with my story, it’s Bruce driving, Alfred as shotgun, a water-bottle or two in the middle, the bags in their respective places... and then...
disaster.
Babs is the only one sitting in the four-seat closer to the bags, harper is in the three-seat, Dick is there as well.
and then there’s the rest. Steph, Cass, Duke, Jason, Tim, Damian, they’re all screaming in the back and they’re throwing towels around and there’s an “OW! THAT WAS MY HAIR YOU DICKHEAD!” and a “THAT’S MINE!” and so many other things because. the back of the bus, it’s cURSED. And Bruce is just driving with a strained smile because he wants so badly to turn around and throw a waterbottle at each of their heads to get them to shut up (of course, it wouldn’t work because not even god can calm down the back of the bus)
Tim and Jason somehow get into this argument of how tim ‘has no friends’ and Tim shoots back that in fact he DOES, that he’s calling them right this instant. And bruce doesn’t even have a chance to yell at them, because now there’s a speedster and a cloned kryptonian right beside the moving minivan and Bruce is lowkey freaking out because none of them (the ones in the van and the ones out) are wearing their superhero costumes, and then Tim is just with his hands pressed on the window and he’s like practically banging the glass and waving and they can’t hear him but he’s like “HEY! HEY HYE HEY YOU GUYS MADE IT!!!” and then dick is just telling them to cut it out and slow down because you know, identities, and Steph is like HOLY SHIT THEY DID MAKE IT and Damian is just sitting upside down with his legs in the backrest off the seat and Duke is in the same position, making fun of Damian because his feet don’t reach.
Kon and Bart seem to get the hint because they slow down, but not before bart has literally jumped towards the MOVING VAN and vibrated through (i’m like 99% sure he is able to do that so-) and then he literally landed on Tim (tim actually softened his fall, because Tim’s back literally made a ~crack~ sound by hitting somebody’s knee) and stood up real quick and then started waving and laughing at kon, who was now running normal-speed beside the van.
And then bruce went FASTER and kon was like WHAT THE HECK OLD MAN and he can’t use his powers so he’s literally running behind the van and bart is laughing his ass off and then tim is like “BRUCE STOP THE VAN!” and then Bart is already calling cassie and telling her what happened and you can hear cassie laughing from over the phone and then Tim is just yelling at bruce in the background. Bruce eventually DOES stop, and Tim opens the door for him and Kon crawls in and Bart’s still laughing, and he’s practically leaning onto Dick and Harper, and they’re squished together and bart’s just laughing on the phone while Kon sits on the really far end of the opposite seat (practically on the door) so he’s the furthest from babs as possible because he’s actually terrified of her. Tim is just sorta awkward because he now realizes that he was a bit TOO excited to see kon, and then the back of the bus/van is staring at them and like what the hell and then Tim goes “who doesn’t have friends, huh?”, and Jason goes ‘pfft’ and he calls roy but he’s spending time with lian; he calls artemis and she goes, “but wasn’t this a family trip? what do you need me for?”, SO jaosn calls bizarro and then he barely answers the phone when bizarro goes “RED HER SAID NO. BYE” so Jason slumps and it’s quiet for a second when steph goes “is that GUM IN MY HAIR”. And then jason laughs and its chaos all over again. (i might make a ‘things that were heard from the back of the road trip bus post bc i have so many ideas oh my god)
and then they are at the beach, the bus barely stops and there’s a few bags thrown out the window, and people yelling at Kon to open the door, and Kon not being able to work under pressure so tim opens it and everyone’s pushing each other and Steph has an uneven strand of hair, because Damian went to ‘extreme measures’ and cut it so now steph’s hair is uneven and they were going to keep cutting it “to make it even” but then Alfred was like “you’re all going to clean the van afterwards so think carefully” and then nobody did anything and there’s literally a ziploc bag with steph’s strand of hair (damian didn’t even cut to where the gum was, he cut even FURTHER but yes, the gum is in the bag).
As I was saying, they get out of the van, and the bags are out and Bruce has NO IDEA what to do. none. It’s alfred that rents a tent and then Damian’s chasing duke into a random restaurant’s changeroom and showers and then cass is dragging harper that’s dragging steph that’s dragging jason and tim is getting the bags with Kon and bart and bart realizes that he doesn’t have a swimsuit and then he stops walking and Kon seems to realize too and it’s like OH MAN and they can’t run back (because no powers, rule set by bruce when two super-powered bros came in the bus) and They’ recarrying the bags to this tent (do you guys know what im talking about? i feel like we’re imagining completely different things- it’s this but much more people and there’s a bunch of people selling stuff like sunglasses and doign hair, piercings, tattoos even - for the tattoos thing it’s just promo for an actual shop they don’t tattoo you in the actual beach - ) and It’s literally Kon, tim and bart carrying the bags (which they CAN carry between the three, it’s not like they packed up half the manor) and then a minute later or so Steph is sprinting towards Tim and she’s yelling something Tim can’t understand and then Steph points at her bag (that tim’s carrying) and she screams something like “SAND! HOT!” and then she’s like high-knee-ing/sprinting even faster and Cass is just walking barefoot in the sand, super calm, but she’s got Harper on her back. Damian and Duke are racing towards the shadow (because the sand is cooler there), and next thing you know Jason’s aready in the tent with a coconut.
And if you haven’t thougth about how the Batfam would be in the beach then let me tell you, you don’t have enough spare time because i know for a FAT FACT that:
It was Jason that insisted on Bruce buying sand toys (a whole bag, i swear)
Damian tried coconut water, didn’t like it all that much (altho he loves the inside- idk what it’s called but it’s edible i swear)
Bruce put on an excessive amount of sunscreen
Duke has swimming trunks with the robin logo just to piss damian off (also Damian has matching ones but with the batman one)
Steph, Cass and Harper rented a banana boat (here’s a picture) and they dragged Jason and Tim along, just to toss them off in the end
Jason 1000% got stung by a jellyfish
Bruce bought like seven friendship bracelets from this guy that made them because they looked deadass cool
They played beach volleyball and let me tell you Damian can throw a really mean overhand serve (actually, i don’t think you THROW a serve, but like,,, serve one-)
dick got buried in the sand, courtesy of Jason
bart was pissy because he couldn’t go in the water, so he and Kon sprinted with normal speed (they both had water-proof anklets that sucked their powers, so it was REALLY a no-powers vacation, courtesy of Bruce, again.)
the only ones in stock were neon, and they settled real quick so now theyre sprinting back and cardying a bag of keychains they thought looked rad as hell and now tim caught up to them and all three are practically skipping towards the water
,,,,they forgot to put sunscreen on.... all of them,,, they forgot....
tim made a sand castle
in teams of two (kon/bart, tim/cass, duke/harper, steph/jason, dick/damian) got on each other shoulders and basically spent five minutes trying to see who would be the last team standing, splashing water everywhere and stuff
first team to go down was Dick and damian, because steph pushed damian and by trying to keep himself on Dick's shoulders, damian accidentally poked dick's eye (sort of CLAWED in so you know what i mean).
second team to go down was steph and jason, because damian doesnt play fair and so he swam down and literally just scratched Jason's ankle, knowing damn well that the jellyfish sting was there. Jaosn shrieked and steph lost her balance. so much for vigilantes at night with stealth and talent, huh.
third team to go down was tim and bart because kon insisted on being on bart’s shoulders and that’s easy peasy because i mean, bart’s not WEAK, but he’s not TALL either and it’s not like Kon weighs a feather and they’re on the deeper side,,,,, you can imagine the rest
Now there’s two teams, and they call it a tie because otherwise someone’s gonna end up injured (altho tim likes to say that he and cass won)
There’s music playing in the background, with really vulgar lyrics that alfred disapproves of, but you know. It’s not his beach.
THIS IS REALLY JUST A SCREAM POST SORRY IT’S NOT WHAT YOU GUYS SIGNED UP FOR BUT TAGLIST ANYWAYS: @red-hood-redemption @screennamealreadyused @bikoncon @catxsnow @thesporklecat @thesesickfics-justmakemesick @hauntingsonofrobin anddd i think i forgot someone sorry

13 Anti LO Asks
1. ok but thats seriously what bugs me so much about LO, it never actually lets serious moments be serious, it's always lampooned by rachel's insistent need to force in her juvenile "humor" and never actually depicting how pressing things are. even the following moments from persephone's r//pe was undercut by hades making stupid puns! i understand if rachel cant write something more serious than "[x] is bad" but if thats so, then dont try it? because thats how you end up with this pretentious mess.
2. since when did lo hades have earrings??? i legit do not remember this ever being a thing??? is he trying to be hip with the kids 😭my man you still look like a crusty old man the earrings arent helping 😭
3. lo hermes looks and acts like flaky from happy tree friends and no thats not a compliment (TW for gore, blood, and violence if any of you google it)
4. Even though the earlier art style was better there are still some cursed panels from the earlier pages that still haunt me. Especially the way Persephone was drawn differently in so many of the panels.
5. lo hades has such "how do you do fellow kids" energy and im not sure why
6. im also confused on the fertility goddess stuff because how stupid is persephone if she didnt notice? she can create life and nature without even thinking and shes implied to be a genius in biology, so how would she not even notice this? if RS really wants to go with this plot, then why have her professor bring it up in class? why not show persephone going to her uni's library to research the topic and pouring over it? that's an easy way to show persephone's intelligence, yet LO doesnt even try.
7. What I wanna know in LO was how Demeter and Hestia were compensated after the war. The three brothers got to be kings and Hera is queen, but what we know of Demeter is that she had a millionaire dollar business that’s probably made it on its own (unless she was helped out) and then Hestia all we really know about her is that she runs that TOGEM and idk if there’s only 4 of them, Hestia really had a group by herself for a bit since Athena is Zeus’ (assumed) daughter, Artemis (Zeus’ assumed daughter) and persphone (newest member) which seems shitty since they won a war together
8. I think what happened with LO’s art style was RS got “lazy” (I’m lacking the right word). I feel like without the colors all of the men in LO have the same body type, and Hermès and Apollo may even have the same face if they smile the same. So to compensate for that lack of body diversity, RS doubled down on Hades’ features to make him stand out more to really show he’s the male lead. However, even in her own words he looks like Persphones’ “dusty ass dad”
The women use to be a little different but they’re all starting to blend with body types. Her was small, but now she’s short and busty like Persphone. RS makes Persphone look short and busty all the time but almost childlike. Minthe was skinny but her last moments she was busy. Aphrodite I feel was just busty but then tried to make her look small also with Ares and Hades beside her. Hestia stayed the same but is still small and busty. Athena was tall and thin (?) but now she’s tall but busty (and her relationship with Hestia looks like it mirrors HXP). Idk I just feel like the longer screen time the female characters get the more they start mirroring Persphone’s look. Like even Artemis was getting empathized on being small next to her brother Apollo. Like all the girls gotta look small but curvy as the story goes on.
9. Demeter: watched her friend get ripped in half. Watched her friend get continually cheated on, paying the price for not hiding a mistress , watched metis get eaten, her back clawed, fought in a war. Later made a daughter who’s a fertility goddess (probably an accident) and now has to raise her. That same daughter then went on a rampage and isn’t really remorseful
Fans: Demeter is such an overbearing mother who gets in the way of our ship.
10. on regards to ace characters, asexuality is a spectrum like everything else, so a lot of asexuals actually do enjoy and have sex, so the maidens doing so isnt inherently a problem, its the fact rachel is clearly viewing it through a strict binary where she assumes asexuality is something that can be "fixed" over time/when the right person comes along. its also a bad modern reading of it, as "virginity" in an ancient sense meant via marriage, not via sex, but I doubt rachel cares to factcheck it.
11. Imagine an elf is given a job to do at a human institution. The humans think elves don’t need bathroom breaks, since they know they can hold it for days, but this elf has been traveling to reach their job, and has already been holding it to the point they are in pain. They ask for a break, but their job is important and time sensitive, so they admit they can still hold it when asked. After a full day of work, the elf tries to reach the bathroom in time, but they were never told where it is.
From OP: I think this might be a nymph allegory? Anon never specified so I'll put this here anyway.
12. ya know if hades has to lie to make apollo seem worse (who does not need much in this comic) its like??? why is he persephone's lawyer then?? lawyers are literally told not to lie, this is basic law 101. thats why they dont want their clients to mention to them if they actually did the crimes because then the lawyers have to say it in court. if hades lies so casually just to keep persephone away from justified punishment, then thats bad actually! both in being a decent person and as a lawyer!
From OP: Hades didn’t lie but he was definitely out of line. RS liked a tweet saying that the wife thing was “subconscious” so it probably was. (Still doesn’t make it right but I doubt he’d say those things on the stand.)
13. I know Minthe was written in a way she was suppose to be unlikesable, she’s rude, she yells and she doesn’t hesistate. HOWEVER RS wrote her character badly. Minthe is so unliked? How was she able to be a bad gf to hades and Thanatos? Like yes it’s an affair but how was she able to pull 2 gods?! We don’t hear Hades or Thanatos say what they like about her BUT they both still had a fling with her. (Honestly I feel it’s cause RS can’t bare writing one nice thing about the female anatangoist without trying to make Persphone look good)
The other thing bothering me was everyone knew about her relationship with Hades after she put it on fatesbook, but everyone talked about the kiss in such a positive light IN FRONT OF HER. Aren’t they suppose to be scared of her? Why did the girls in the yoga class/dress shop had so much to say about that kiss? Because they knew persphone? Did they know every other detail too? What was their actual beef with Minthe?
I feel like realistically some more characters would have sympathy for Minthe if they didn’t know her that well because of Hera. Everyone knows Hera is a pill to deal with and she’s the goddess of marriage who hasn’t really tried bringing Minthe and Hades to the alter. That right there should let everyone know that Hera probably doesn’t help the situation.
Idk, I feel like RS could have gone deeper and made the character not such HXP shippers cause most people wouldn’t cheer for cheating nor an old ass guy getting with a 19 year old. (Idk how fast the news of the slap spread, but I doubt it made it to every place in their fictional world)

++++++++++++
The early dawn is quiet, with dew glistening off the statues in the garden, and you’re the first awake in the house. As usual you walk quietly to the dresser where you get the silk robe gifted to you from Dionysus. Enrobed you walk down to the kitchen where you take a small cup of wine and yesterday’s bread out to the garden for breakfast.
There are a few stumps scattered amongst the statues, and you sit on the one closest to one of your favorite statues. Malakas the goose, who thought himself brave one day as he bit the ankles of your sister, Sten. You and Marmor had collapsed together laughing at the swiftest of you being chased at length by the ornery goose. Sten had yelled and screamed at it, to no avail, before finally giving in and glaring it to stone, and proclaiming his name Malakas.
“Good morning, friend.” You greet the goose and pat it on the head, but notice there’s something different about him today. Inside its mouth is a piece of paper, slightly crumpled, with ink on it. You look at it puzzled, then look around the garden a little, but see no one. After dipping your bread in the wine and taking a bite, you put the cup on the stump and grab the paper. Only to immediately start coughing.
It’s a crude drawing of you standing in offense with your shield. Clearly, the artist has no skill, but it’s obvious the figure is yours both in size and you’re the only one of your sisters who can carry a shield as big as this one. You’re a little flattered, and a little suspicious. The gorgons train together every evening, but this paper wasn’t in the goose’s mouth yesterday.
After finishing the bread and wine, while staring at the drawing, a million thoughts run through your head. Foremost concern for your security, and who could be watching. The gorgons were fearsome creatures, and that attracted idiots who wished to prove themselves against a mighty foe. Hence the many armored statues around you. Then curiosity, and why this person would focus on you. Once your foes reached your gates, they usually focussed on the muscular strength of Marmor, or the svelt speed of Sten, not the chunky bulk of your body made for sturdy defence. It was useful in battle, being underestimated. But it was never an advantage for love.
Sten didn’t care about copulation or partnership, and Marmor had a sometimes-something going on with Haphaestus. You loved your sisters, and you loved your life in the Oikos, but there were days when you wanted what Aphrodite and Eros talked about or what you saw at gatherings with Dionysus. Pleasures within and beyond your dreams were always just out of reach, because you were a gorgon, a monster. The risk of loving you was too great.
Why would anyone find you beautiful enough to put on paper?
The feelings well up inside you, and burst. You crumple the drawing in your fist, a few tears escaping your eyes, and immediately regret what you’ve done. Slowly you stand and smooth the paper back out, then go back inside to place it in the drawer of your bedside table.
You put on your clothes for the day, then put on a chestplate and greaves. It’s decided, you will check the perimeter and see if you can find whoever is spying on the Oikos. On the way out you run into Sten who is weaving in the inner garden.
“I’m doing a perimeter check.”
“Would you like company?” Sten responds absentmindedly.
“I’ll be okay. Keep half an ear out in case another one of Philoctetes’ useless heroes is lurking about.”
“I dunno. The last one was cute. Maybe it’s time we had a mortal as a pet.”
You roll your eyes and counter, “I’ll be sure to mention that if I find one. I’m sure they would be willing to live under threat of getting chopped into tiny bits and fed to our snakes.”
Sten turns her head and raises an eyebrow, “You might be surprised.”
You scoff and turn to go, “I’m never surprised anymore.”
As you walk through the garden to the north side of the Oikos, you try to shake off this strange mood that the drawing has put you in. The edge of the cliff is your first stop, and you center yourself listening to the rushing waters of the Styx below. You see Charon in his ferry and raise a hand. As usual you get the most minute nod in return, and you make your way east along the forest border, taking light steps as Artemis taught you, and tuning into your snakes scenting the air.
Over halfway done, and you haven’t found anything of note. A few of the traps Sten maintains have caught small game, and you cut some of the excess string to tie them together and drape the catch over your shoulders before resetting the traps.
On the last leg of your check your snakes perk up. They sway further West and you follow, keeping your light hunting step, and making sure to draw your sword. You go further into the forest until you can no longer see the bright signal of the Oikos, and then you find it. There is a patch of disturbed leaves and earth where a small fire had been. The ashes are almost completely brushed away, and the leaves spread over to make it blend into the ground. If you did not have your snakes to guide you to the scent you would not have found it. Whoever had camped here knew how to cover their tracks.
Unfortunately, your snakes couldn’t help you track any further. They knew if something was prey, or different, but they didn’t have the skills of hunting dogs. Once you found the spot they had scented, they would not know where to track from there, and your meticulous circles around the ashes yielded no more results.
You huff to yourself and when you finally stop, your stomach gives a mighty growel and you observe the sky. You’ve missed the mid-day meal, and it was past time to start daily training. Marmor is going to be insufferable. In your haste to sate your hunger and get to training you neglect the last leg of the perimeter, much to the luck of the prowling Hvitserk who had no idea how close he came to being discovered.
When you reach the edge of the forest there’s a twang and a zing, and you twist behind the nearest tree, shield on your back, pressed against the bark. You watch the arrow dig into the wood of the tree in front of you.
“What the fuck, Sten?” You shout.
“You’re late!” Replies Marmor.
You groan to yourself then shrug the shield off your back and use its shiny metal to see where your sisters are. Slowly, you pull off your catch for dinner from around your neck, and get ready to throw them at your sisters. Raising your shield in front of your body to deflect Sten’s arrows, you launch the strung together animals over your barrier, then shove forward to put your whole weight behind your shield, in hopes that you will shock Marmor and throw her off her feet.
It works. Marmor’s annoyance has her getting thrown off briefly, and the training session really begins. You block and parry, attacking when you can, but mainly trying to cover your open spots when Sten shoots arrows toward you. You’re late, so they’re both going harder on only you.
But your head isn’t in it. The moves are harder to come into your mind than usual, your footwork not as instinctive as yesterday. An off day all because of some faceless enemy stalking in the trees. Who are you kidding, it could just be a traveller. But the way the ashes were buried has you nervous.
And the drawing. Marmor’s sword clangs against your shield just in time. How could you forget? Were they connected? Could you get away with telling your sisters about the perimeter check but not the drawing? You didn’t think so. Your gut is screaming that they’re connected.
But now your gut is screaming, because Marmor kicked you.
“Fuck you!”
“Focus up! What if an idiot hero comes here? You’re not going to win fighting them like this.”
“Oh. My. God. I know!” Your snakes start hissing as they pick up on your anger, and you keep hacking and slashing toward your sister, trying to disarm her even though you know it won’t get you anywhere.
All you want to do is stop and think for a few minutes. Plan your next moves. Figure out who is watching you and why. And why would they draw you? That’s the part that’s gnawing at you the most. There’s a weird fluttery feeling in your chest and you absolutely hate it.
You use your anger to back up your power. Attacking furiously where you would usually stay back and block. You’re reckless and Marmor gets in a few close calls with her sword. You’re trying to block a particularly vicious swing of the sword when you hear Sten call your name, the duck seems to happen in slow motion where you watch the arrow fly just past your brow, and feel the sting of a sword on your thigh. Marmor has pulled her sword down across the top of your shield and you hadn’t pulled your leg back in time.
“First blood! Sten yells, and Marmor pulls up and stops, only looking a little apologetic.
The wound is just a scratch for you. It stings, and will heal in a few days, but first blood stops the fight.
You rest the edge of your shield on the ground and lean on it just slightly, staring at your sisters. “We have to talk. Inside. It’s not safe out here in sight of the woods.”
“You found something.” Sten remarks. You glare at her. If you’re being watched, you definitely don’t want to be heard.
“Then let’s go eat. You must be hungry, Y/N. You’ve been out all day.” Marmor says, her eyes narrowing and trying to covertly scan the treeline. She walks over and grabs the game you had thrown as a distraction earlier.
Together, you walk back to the Oikos. Quiet and a little sullen. Your sisters don’t like off days any more than you do, and they are anxious to hear what you’ve found.

Capturing a Dream
Chapter 5 – Kobayashi Maru
“Why are you wearing that thing?” Conner teased Chimera with a playful lilt to his voice and pointing to her pink apron. She had wanted to make some treats for the team and roped him into helping her despite his objections. Apparently, sitting and watching Wolf attempt to play with Sphere wasn’t considered an adequate way to spend his morning.
Chimera raised an eyebrow at him. “To keep clean. Things can get messy when you’re baking.”
“Just don’t get dirty.” Conner responded easily. He leaned over to her with a mischievous look, “Bake better.”
Chimera gasped in fake offense and glared at him as she finished pouring the flour into the mixing bowl. “Whatever, oh kitchen guru.” She moved to get the buttermilk and looked over at him with a slightly too innocent expression. “Hey, can you turn on the blender for me, please?”
Conner grinned smugly from his apparent win and moved to the mixer to turn it on. He accidentally switched it to the highest level. He wasn’t able to move before a wave of flour flew out of the bowl and coated him in a thick coat of white. He fumbled for the off switch before turning toward Chimera with a questioning look. She doubled over in laughter as soon as she saw him. He groaned and started trying to shake and brush off the flour, but that just seemed to make it worse, spreading it further and pushing it into his shirt and pants. Chimera was now gasping for breath from laughing so hard until she fell on her butt, making her laugh harder. “That… that’s… that’s why I wear an apron,” she choked out.
“You…” Conner stared incredulously at her. “You did that on purpose.”
“No. I would never.” She tried to defend herself, but the wicked look in her eyes and the way she was biting her lip trying not to laugh as she leaned against the lower kitchen cabinets, gave her away.
“Is that so,” Conner asked, the mischievous glint back in his eye as he picked up the mixing bowl.
Chimera’s eyes widened as she realized his intention. “No, no, no. Conner.” She held up her hand in a placating gesture and tried backing away from him but she was already pressed against the cabinets so there was nowhere to go. Conner threw the contents of the bowl at her with a roguish grin. She squealed loudly as the ingredients hit her legs and her forearms that were protecting her head. “Conner!” she chastised him with no heat in her tone. “I cannot believe you just did that.”
“Then you’re really not going to believe this,” he grinned as he picked up the bowl of sugar they hadn’t added yet and threw that at her too.
Chimera was barely able to dodge out of the way in time and grabbed the container of baking powder and flicked it toward him. He just dodged it but the baking powder was just a distraction from the cocoa powder she threw at him next. The cocoa powder caught him in the neck and hair, the impact spreading it to his face and shirt. He recovered quickly and searched for something else to throw, coughing slightly from the cocoa powder that hung in the air.
“Okay, okay. Truce!” Chimera yelled holding her hands out placating. “The only ingredients left are wet ingredients and I really, really don’t want to clean that up. Truce?” She eyed him suspiciously, the same way he eyed her. He reached his hand out to her but his body was guarded in case she tried to go back on her word. Chimera tentatively reached out her hand as well, suspecting a counter strike, but their hands met without incident. They smiled at each other breathlessly.
Chimera pulled Conner into a hug and Conner wrapped his arms around her just as tight until he felt something granular sliding down his shirt. He looked at Chimera and groaned. She was shaking her hair out on his shoulder causing the sugar that had caught in her hair to fall on him as well. Chimera laughed even harder, her face turning red in the process. Conner laughed too in spite of himself.
After Chimera had calmed down a few minutes later, she surveyed the damage around them and glanced over to Conner. “Okay, do you want to help me redo this and we can clean together while it’s in the oven or do you want to clean while I bake?”
Conner surveyed the kitchen as he considered his options. “I’ll clean. It’s probably safer that way.” He sent her a mock glare that she laughed off.
Chimera hummed as she remixed the ingredients for the chocolate cupcakes. She was enjoying the moments of normalcy and lightness between missions. Things were just starting to settle down again into a routine after the last few weeks had rocked the Team to their core. She needed this reprieve and she was confident that Conner did too after everything that happened.
After the cakes were out of the oven and the kitchen had been cleaned with only themselves left to clean off, they grinned at each other. “I’ll frost those tonight after they’ve cooled. We both should probably get moving.” She smiled at him as she headed out of the kitchen. “Probably should take a shower first though.”
He smiled as he looked down at his clothes and raised an eyebrow at her. “And whose fault was that?”
She looked back at him with wide eyes, the perfect picture of innocence. “You could have just not gotten dirty, right? So… yours.”
He narrowed his eyes at her and she smiled back brightly. Conner fought it, he really did, but he couldn’t stop the corners of his mouth from turning up and the chuckle from working its way out. “We’ll settle this later.” He waved at her as she left, his eyes following her until she was out of sight.
<><><><><>
The team watched in shock as Artemis’ body disappeared in a flash of light. That was… less than optimal. “Everyone get in the ship!” Aqualad called to them as he whipped out his water bearers to destroy the downed ship that had just eliminated their teammate.
As soon as the ship was destroyed, Aqualad joined Superboy, Robin, and Wally on the ship. “We need to rethink our approach to this. I still think a plan is needed, but going against them even as a sneak attack cost us Artemis and Wolf. There has to be a different way to address this.” Aqualad stated calmly.
“Head on didn’t work and sneak attack hasn’t seemed to work better.” Kid Flash added in the same academic tone as one would considering a word puzzle.
“Back to the Cave to regroup?” Robin asked from the ship’s controls.
“No, to the Hall of Justice. We need to consider the effect this is having on the people here as well. The people need to know there are still heroes out there.” Aqualad responded flippantly, keeping his focus on the horizon. His mind was still running through possible approaches. What had worked, what had failed, what they hadn’t tried, what had the most success and might work if it was reworked.
Suddenly Kid Flash gasped and pounded his fist on the ship’s controls. “Artemis is dead!” He jumped up. “They killed Artemis. Artemis died right in front of us.”
Aqualad put his hand on Kid Flash’s shoulder. “Her sacrifice will not be in vain. We will avenge her.”
“I’m going to kill every last one of them.” Kid Flash vowed looking out to the skies, searching for any he could shoot.
“Has anyone heard from Chimera?” Conner asked, his eyes suddenly looking frantic.
“No, she hasn’t contacted the Cave since the aliens attacked.” Aqualad confirmed.
“Robin, check the communication in and out of the Cave. See if there is a message from Chi in there.” Superboy commanded anxiously.
Robin connected to the Cave. “Nothing at the Cave. I’m checking the Hall of Justice right now.” He kept searching but his eyes were getting more and more worried as he did. “Nothing… there’s nothing. The Hall’s communication networks have been destroyed so we wouldn’t know even if she had tried.”
Aqualad placed his hand on Superboy’s shoulder, just as he had for Kid Flash. “I’m sorry.”
Superboy jerked away like he had been burned. “No. We don’t know that anything happened to her. She could be fine. There were no reports that she was killed.”
“That’s right.” Robin encouraged him. “We’ll keep fighting to find her. The quicker we end this attack, the quicker we can find her.” Aqualad grimaced at Robin who responded with a dark look of his own. “We’re coming up on DC. It looks like we’re not the only ones.” He said indicating the alien ships that were heading toward the Capitol Building.
“Let’s destroy these bastards.” Kid Flash growled already aiming the weapons systems on the closest one.
“We can’t shoot them all. Superboy, you think you can take one on your own?” Aqualad asked, keeping his eyes on the screen and formulating a plan.
Superboy gave him a feral grin. “Absolutely.”
“Good. We sneak up on them, drop Conner on the closest one then start moving onto the next and work our way through. Once they’re all taken care of we start working with the army to combine forces and assess our assets.”
Conner took a deep breath, bracing himself for his next move. They had already lost the entire Justice League, Wolf was dead, Artemis was dead, and nobody had heard from Chimera. He didn’t want to think she was dead, but… the odds were not in her favor. But she was magic and had already survived attacks he didn’t think anyone could survive. And she was a strategist. If anyone could come up with a plan for her and for them, it was her.
“Ready?” Robin called out to him.
“Just give me the sign. I’ll take them out.” Superboy turned back to the hatch below with a determined stare.
“Opening the hatch. I’ll count you down. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Jump!” Robin called out.
Superboy jumped and landed directly on the alien ship with enough force to create a massive dent in the ship. He ripped off the canon and began punching the ship as hard and rapidly as he could manage. He was too laser focused to notice the Team’s ship firing on the ship that came up behind his, destroying that ship, leaving three more ships. The Team’s ship started firing on the next ship, bringing the other ships’ attention to them.
Conner whipped around to assess the situation. His ship wasn’t completely destroyed yet, but disabled. If he could jump on another, he could disable that as well, making it easier for the Team’s ship to destroy them. Before the ships could start firing, a portal opened immediately in front of one of the ships. The ship flew in and suddenly the next ship over exploded and the two ships crashed, followed almost immediately by the third ship exploding from the Team’s fire.
Superboy’s ship glided down, crashing on the National Mall, skidding to a stop just in front of it. Superboy jumped just before it came to a stop, landing in a crouch in front of the army forces stationed in front of the Capitol Building, the Team’s ship landing just behind him. Superboy looked up to the army and stopped short, his breath catching in his chest.
Standing in front of the army forces was Chimera, standing tall, a little disheveled, a bit bloody, but standing and smiling brilliantly at Superboy. Superboy’s eyes lit up and he started running to her. Chimera jumped in his arms, laughing heartily in relief. Superboy hugged her tight, spinning her around in his excitement to see her. Chimera looked down to brush the nonexistent hair out of his face, cupping his face in the process, her grin growing impossibly bigger as she did. Superboy’s eyes were crinkling from the large smile spreading on his face that only got larger as Chimera leaned down to touch her lips to his.
Her lips were soft and yielding and everything he had been dreaming they would be... not that he had been dreaming about her... he just... had been... repeatedly. The kiss was exactly everything he had dreamed it would be. It filled him with warmth and comfort at the same time, making his heart race.
They broke apart, gasping for breath after what felt like no time at all and forever at the same time. Chimera smiled sappily at him, not letting him move his face too far from hers. “I don’t want to wait until the next world ending event to do that again.”
Conner looked back at her with desire and shook his head. “I don’t want to wait at all.” He whispers heartily, capturing her lips and letting the emotion sweep over him again. The kiss was hungrier than the first, more assured in their mutual desire. A reprieve from the devastation and loss. A dream in the middle of a nightmare.
They broke apart when they heard someone clearing their throats. “She’s kissing Superman.” “That’s not Superman. He’s too young. And where’s the cape?”
“He’s better. He’s Superboy.” Chimera responded without sparing the interrupter a glance, keeping her eyes on Superboy’s.
He twined his hand into her hair, gently setting her down to cup her face with his other hand and keeping her close. He pulled away slightly, still touching her, not willing to give up on that reassurance that she was still there, that she was alive and by his side. “So this is where you go to” he said with a smirk but eyes still showing how relieved he was to see her.
“Guess my secret is out,” she smiled at him, cupping her hands over his. “I’m glad you finally know. I hated keeping it from you.”
Conner rested his forehead on hers and let out a deep shuttering breath. “We thought you were dead. Don’t ever do that again.”
Chimera squeezed her eyes shut and nuzzled her face into his hands. “The zeta tubes I knew about were down and I was fighting here. I couldn’t abandon them.”
Kid Flash broke free from Robin’s grip and stalked over to them. “So this is where you have been this whole time. We could have used your help. We were fighting alone. Artemis was fighting alone.”
“I’m sorry for what happened to Artemis.” She looked at him with guilt and compassion in her eyes. “I wish I could have been there for you, for my Team.”
Kid Flash moved so he was only a few inches from her face. “But you weren’t. And now Artemis is dead.” He growled at her.
A guilty, hurt look spread across Chimera’s face and she backed away from Kid Flash, seeming to shrink at his censure. Superboy moved in front of her, pushing Kid Flash away. “That’s enough. She was saving civilians. That’s what we’re supposed to be doing. What happened to Artemis isn’t anyone’s fault but the aliens’.”
Aqualad walked up to them and placed a hand on Kid Flash’s shoulder. “He’s right. Circumstances were extreme. We are a team. We need to start acting like it and focus on taking down the aliens, not each other.”
Kid Flash glared at Chimera before looking away. He knew, he knew it wasn’t her fault, but that didn’t stop a part of his brain from blaming her. But, blaming her wouldn’t help the situation. It wouldn’t bring Artemis back. They needed to stop the aliens before they killed more people and they needed her for that. “So what’s our next step?”
Aqualad looked over the wreckage formulating a plan, and trying to keep his anger in check. “We’ll salvage as many of the alien’s cannons as possible.” His face morphed as his anger took over. “Then we take back what is ours.”
<><><><><>
The Hall of Justice didn’t offer any particular insights, just a sense of familiarity and fleeting safety in their decidedly unsafe and insecure position. It wasn’t the Cave, it wasn’t their home, but it was a symbol of hope to people around the world and had been to them. And hope was something they all needed more of today.
Aqualad sat with the army general talking tactics while the other army men watched the perimeter and tried to take a second to themselves. Kid Flash and Robin were running tests on the alien cannons to learn more about them. A look of frustration and concentration set on Kid Flash’s face. They were going to figure this out. They needed to avenge Artemis and their mentors. Robin watched the results of one test come in and launched into the next test with calm and determined eyes, his mouth set in a thin line, the very picture of traught. He would deal with the emotions later. Right now, the priority had to be their analysis. They needed to figure out how to defeat the aliens or they were all going to die. There was no time for emotions right now.
Superboy and Chimera stood sentry at the main entrance, no longer holding hands now that the initial wave of relief had passed and they were on a mission, but standing close enough that Superboy could feel the heat from her body. Both had their eyes trained on the skies, but he occasionally darted his eyes to her just to reassure himself that she was there. “I’m sorry about Wolf.” She said quietly, eyes still on the sky.
Superboy’s eyes moved to her for longer, focusing on her. He could see the sorrow in her eyes as she said it, even though she refused to take her eyes off the skies for even a moment. Every bit the professional as he expected from her, pushing away her emotions until the mission was over. But too worried and grieved for him to wait to say something. “He died protecting me.” Superboy grumbled looking back to the sky. He wouldn’t cry. There had been so much death and destruction. It was ridiculous to cry over one pet.
Chimera nodded solemnly. “That’s what you do for the people you love, you risk your life for them. Sometimes you lose it for them.” Superboy could see the tears trying to escape that she held tight to. “And he loved you.”
Superboy opened his mouth to say something too fast, too deep, something he knew she wasn’t ready to hear, but before he could Kid Flash yelled out saving him from himself. “Guys! Look what I found! Look at this!”
The Team along with General Eiling moved over to him. “What did you find?” Aqualad asked, unmoved by Kid Flash’s excitement.
“Zeta-beam radiation!” Kid Flash exclaimed excitedly. “The cannons have zeta-beam radiation! The same as our zeta tubes.” He was nearly bouncing with excitement. “They aren’t disintegration beams, they are teleporting beams. Do you know what that means?” He grabbed Chimera by her shoulders to make sure she was entirely focused on him, the one person on the Team who could match his levels of excitement. The one person who could mutually indulge in extreme emotions. His smile was so big and bright, it almost brought hope back to the structure all on its own. “They’re alive. They aren’t killing people, they’re taking them hostage! We can save them.”
Chimera smiled widely at him. “We can save Artemis.” Kid Flash started giggling with happiness as he nodded at her words, hugging her tight. The hug he gave her turned into a dive for cover when the building was rocked with an explosion, Chimera covering his body with hers. As soon as the rocking stopped, the Team and soldiers popped their heads up assessing the situation. “We’re surrounded, sir.” One of the soldiers at the entrance reported. “At least twelve ships out there, sir.” Another soldier called back.
“There’s no way to make it to our ship,” Robin commented.
“We need to move to the Zeta tubes. Robin, I need you to run ahead and hack the system to get authorization for the soldiers.” Aqualad called over to him as he wrapped one of the soldiers’ arms over his shoulders.
“On it,” Robin calls already running toward the zeta tubes. By the time the rest of the Team, each supporting at least one soldier, got to the room he had the system hacked and was already scanning soldiers. They all braced themselves and jumped out of the way of falling chunks of ceiling as more explosions rocked the building.
Superboy searched out Chimera after the latest particularly bad explosion, breathing a sigh of relief when he found her standing unharmed near the zeta tube. “That one sounded like it came from the inside.” He reported loudly.
“They appear to have breached the perimeter. They will be here soon. We need to move.” Aqualad stated gravely. “Chimera, you go through first and signal us if it is safe.”
“What? No! You don’t know what you’re sending her into,” Superboy objected.
Aqualad shook his head. “Chimera has a nearly indestructible suit. If there is something on the other side, she will be best equipped to withstand it.” He nodded to Chimera to signal her to move.
Chimera nodded back and gave Superboy a weak smile. “See you on the other side.” Superboy nodded back. He would see her. They would see each other and he would kiss her again. He watched as Chimera disappeared through the zeta tube, holding his breath until they heard a signal come through to Robin.
“She’s okay. She says it’s safe.” Robin reported. Superboy let out the breath he had been holding.
“Everyone start moving.” Aqualad commanded. “Soldiers first.”
“No,” General Eiling countermanded. “We cannot risk losing more heroes. You go first.” Aqualad squared up against him ready to argue. “We don’t have time to argue. This is non-negotiable. You. Go. First.”
Aqualad grunted in displeasure but nodded. “Kid Flash, you go through next, Robin, you next, followed by Superboy. I’ll go next, followed by the army soldiers. Time is a factor. Move quickly.” Kid Flash looked between them, but moved to the tube quickly. Robin frowned at Aqualad, but moved to the tube to wait his turn.
The Team and the soldiers in the room waited impatiently for their turns to make it through the zeta tube. It didn’t take long for each person to go through, but they didn’t have time to wait. They could hear the explosions and the destruction nearing them quicker than they had. It went against their natures to just stand by and do nothing, but there was nothing to do, not until the room was breached.
Robin had just made it through the tube when there was a flash of blinding light and everything seemed to freeze for a few moments before returning to normal. Aqualad and Superboy shook their heads in confusion, the light having done something to their heads, causing momentary confusion. When they looked back up, the door to their stronghold had been blown apart and the aliens were entering in droves. The room erupted into a cacophony of yells, screams, weapons’ fire, and fighting. “Superboy, get in the tube.” Aqualad yelled to him as he attacked an alien.
Superboy opened his mouth to object but quickly dived out of the way of an oncoming shot. “Now!” Aqualad yelled again. Superboy moved quickly to the tube, keeping an eye on the aliens as he waited for the tube to recognize him and shoot him with the zeta beam energy. He gasped as an alien aimed at him. It was a race between the zeta beam energy and the alien’s weapon. He closed his eyes and braced himself for the hit that never came.
When he opened his eyes he saw Chimera’s grinning face. He exhaled the breath he hadn’t realized he was holding and pulled her into a hug, burying his face in her neck. He pulled away just enough to kiss her again, weaving his hand into her hair to pull her closer.
“The tube is down.” Robin reported gravely from his position at the zeta tube controls. The rest of the Team turned to him in question. “The Hall of Justice tube entrance is not responding. Likely destroyed. We should not expect survivors.”
Kid Flash and Chimera gasped at the declaration. Chimera buried her face in Superboy’s chest. He could feel her tears soaking through his shirt. He pulled her closer and rested his head on hers, trying to whisper comforting words, but there were none. There was no comfort in this situation. The only comfort he had found in this entire situation was her, so he hugged her closer like the symbol of hope she was to him.

Parent Trap
Part 1
A/N: It’s here yall. The Marcus Moreno x Reader Parent Trap AU. There are some swears. Some point of view switching but I note it in bold.
‘Thoughts’ “Speak”
The Hero:
Marcus Moreno was in the middle of meeting with the Heroics. Going over assignments, and potential threats to be on the lookout. He was listening to Miracle Guy talk about something ridiculous when his cellphone went off. He glanced down, and his eyes widen in surprised. It was Missy’s school.
He quickly answered it, saying, “Hello?”
“Hello, Mr. Moreno? This is Principal O’Shaughnessy. If you could please come down to the school, as soon as possible. There’s been an incident involving your daughter and two other students,” Came an older male voice.
“I’m on my way,” Marcus got up and rushed out, not caring that he left in the middle of a meeting.
The Artist:
Y/N Graves was a simple woman. She worked as artist, which meant she was often home, elbow deep into whatever project she was working on currently. That was where she was when her phone rang.
She dropped her paint brush to answer it with a cheery, “‘Ello?”
“Miss Graves, this is Principal O’Shaughnessy, your daughter Artemis? Was involved in an incident at school with two other students. If you could please come as soon as possible,” Came a man’s voice.
“Be there soon,” She hung up, quickly cleaning her brushes before she left.
She hopped into her car and drove to the school; thankful it was only a couple blocks away. She made her way inside and to the principal’s office. She stops short when she sees her daughter standing near another little girl, with long curly black hair and dark eyes. Before noticing the third kid, a boy, who was sitting in a plastic chair, with a black eye and tissues up his nose to stop the bleeding.
“What the fu—frick?” She whispered taking in everything with slight horror.
Artemis giggled softly at her almost swearing. She goes to say something to her when she felt someone crash into her from behind. She stumbled forward trying to regain her balance. She turned around to yell but stopped.
“Marcus?” She asked staring at a face she hadn’t seen in years.
“Shade?” He parroted calling her by her nickname, one she hadn’t heard in years.
She then asked, “Please tell me that one is not yours,” pointing at the boy.
“No. The other one behind you,” Marcus said with a chuckle.
Before they could say much more a woman with dyed hair, lululemons and a tank top came in, her voice high-pitched with outrage at the sight of her kid.
“What happened to my baby!?” She screeched out.
The Principal cleared his throat at that time, to gain everyone’s attention. Shade moved over to stand by her daughter, as Marcus did the same.
“Mrs. Delaney, it appears that your son was bullying, Miss Moreno here. Miss Moreno tried to walk away from him several times, but your son continued to follow her, and even began shoving her. That was when Miss Graves stepped in, and punched your son,” Mr. O’Shaughnessy explained reading off an incident report.
“Or at least that was what stated from the teacher’s watching. Miss Moreno, would you like to tell us what happened?” He directed his attention to Marcus’ daughter.
“Tommy was teasing me about not having active powers. He kept saying mean things like ‘oh your dad must be disappointed in having a lame daughter.’ And stuff like that. I tried to walk away from him several times, but he wouldn’t leave me alone. Artemis came over and told him to go away. When he didn’t, she punched him, telling him to leave me alone,” Missy recounted staring at the ground.
“What lies! My Tommy would never! I hope you plan on punishing them!” Mrs. Delaney exclaimed angrily.
Shade rolled her eyes to the high heavens and stared at this dramatic woman, pointedly.
“My daughter defended her friend. Against a bully. If anyone should be punished, it should be your kid. It’s not our fault you raised an ass,” Shade sassed, crossing her arms.
Mrs. Delaney gasped in exaggerated horror, even going so far as to covering her son’s ears. The girls giggled quietly at her, and Marcus was trying not to laugh.
“Mrs. Graves, if you could please refrain from the foul language. Mrs. Delaney, I have warned you multiple times about Tommy’s behaviors. This is the last straw. He will be suspended for 2 weeks. As for Miss Graves, seeing as this is your first offense, you will get a warning. I do not tolerate fighting on school grounds, got it?” Mr. O’Shaughnessy cut in.
Mrs. Delaney grabbed her son, muttering something ‘I have never..’ and left.
The kids still have a couple hours left of class, but the principal gave them permission to leave early if they wished. The girls went and got their bags and whatever assignments they were going to miss for the day. Marcus and Shade stood outside by the entrance waiting for them.
The Kids:
Missy looked over at Artemis and asked, “So. You saw our parents act weird when they saw each other right?”
Artemis nodded as she grabbed her jacket and bag. “They clearly know each other. Did you see the way they looked at each?”
“All goo-goo eyed? Yes! I haven’t seen my dad look like that since…” Missy trailed off, thinking in her head, ‘since before my mom passed away.’
Artemis, who had made fast friends with Missy when she moved here a month ago, knew what she was thinking of. Artemis reached out and held her hand, giving it a small squeeze. Missy smiled at her in response and the 2 of them walked out to their parents.
Artemis looked at her mom and Missy’s dad and got an idea, “Mom, can we go get ice cream? I know that fighting is bad and all, but I was defending my friend.”
Her mom sighed, and looked at the two of them, with squinting eyes. She turned to Missy’s dad and said, “What do ya think? Think they’ve earned a treat?”
The Hero:
He looked at the kids and then back at Shade, who had a soft smile. “Sure. Why not?”
The girls cheered and rushed to the cars. “Uh. Pops on 15th St. sound good?” He asked.
“That place still exists? Damn,” Shade chuckled looking off to the side. “Uh. Yeah. Pops sounds good to me. See ya there in a minute.”
Marcus smiled, lightly biting his lip before making his way to his car, as Shade did the same.
Missy was already in the backseat, buckled up and ready to go. The drive to Pops was a quick 10 minutes, and as they made there way inside, they noticed Shade and Artemis hadn’t arrived yet, so they took a seat in a booth. Missy insisted that she sit on the outside, and Marcus complied with a shake of his head.
He heard the door opened and looked up to see Shade standing there and he was thrown back to all the times he took her here on a date. She was still just as beautiful as he remembered her.
The Artist:
As Shade stepped inside, she was hit with a wave of nostalgia. Pops still looked the same as it did when she was a teenager. She finds Marcus easy enough; he too looked a little dazed at being back here.
Her and Artemis go to join them, Artemis insisting to sit on the outside as well. Shade rolled her eyes and allowed it this one time.
The waitress came up and took their orders. 15 minutes passed and soon 4 milkshakes, 2 large and 2 kids sized in to-go cups, were set in front of them. The girls grabbed theirs and ran off to sit at another table, giggling.
“I feel like we are being set-up,” Shade whispered with a raised eyebrow.
“Possibly,” Marcus agreed, before clearing his throat.
“So. How.. How have you been?” He asked awkwardly.
“Been pretty good. I see you’ve been busy,” She quietly teased nodding to his wedding ring.
“Oh! Um. Yeah. But… uh… not,” He stammered trying to respond.
Shade gave him a look of sudden realization, “How long?”
“About 6 years. Cancer,” He answered lowly not wanting Missy to hear.
“I’m sorry to hear that. I bet she was wonderful,” She said with a sad smile.
“She was. Umm. Ahem. What about you? Ever get married or got someone special waiting at home?” he asked trying to redirect the attention off of him.
“Nope. Uh. Had a boyfriend for a couple years. He left the day I told him I was pregnant. So. It’s been just the 2 of us ever since,” Shade explained after taking a long sip from her milkshake.
“Then he didn’t deserve either of you,” Marcus replied, his voice soft.
Shade smiled, looking down to hide her face.
She cleared her throat and noticed out of the corner of her eye, Missy and Artemis were watching them intently.
“Marcus… I think our kids are trying to set us up,” She muttered. “Glance over at them casually.”
Marcus does so and sees the two of them trying to act nonchalantly but were very much keeping an eye on them.
He chuckled, “No. They’re just.. Concerned. They’re best friends who want to make sure we get along.”
“Mh. I don’t know. My kid can be quite devious. Her favorite movie is The Parent Trap. Well. Next to The Mummy,” Shade wasn’t convinced.
Marcus laughed at that and stared at her softly.
“Not gonna lie… I’ve missed you,” Marcus admitted.
“I missed you as well. Maybe um.. Maybe we can set up a day to catch up?” Shade offered hopeful.
“I’d like that, maybe Saturday? We can leave the kids with my mom for the day. We can… go to the park or that café you like so much? Well. If you still like it that is,” Marcus rambled slightly.
“I do. Sounds like a date,” Shade said confirming the idea.
They exchanged numbers and finished their shakes, before rounding up their kids.
She waved goodbye to him as they parted ways.
Artemis was bouncing up and down in her seat.
“Clearly, you are having a sugar overload, guess we need to work that off,” Shade stated, shaking her head.
“No. Just happy. How do you know Mr. Moreno, mama?” Artemis asked as they began to drive off.
“We dated in high school, and through a good portion of college,” Shade explained glancing back at her through the rear-view mirror.
“Oh. Why did you break up?” Artemis asked curiously.
“He was becoming a pretty famous Heroic and I was making a name for myself in the art field. We drifted. We hardly ever saw each other and when we did, we argued a lot. So, we figured it was better if we broke up,” Shade acknowledged with a sad sigh.
“But… you still like him? And he clearly likes you?” Artemis questioned, looking confused.
“Yes. I do still like him, and how do you know he likes me?” Shade countered with a grin.
“He stared at you like Rick does when he sees Evy,” Artemis said matter of factly, referencing The Mummy.
Shade laughed at how seriously she said that. ‘Kids.’
The Hero:
Missy looked at her dad and smiled at the dreamy face he was making.
“You like her?” Missy asked with a silly smile.
“I do. Does that bother you? Me liking someone?” Marcus asked worriedly.
“Dad. I don’t think mom would be mad if you moved on. I just want you to be happy. You work so much to make me happy and when you’re not with me, you’re saving the world. I think you deserve to be happy too,” Missy assured hugging him.
“When did you get so smart?” He asked, returning the hug.
“I learned from you, duh,” She answered cutely.
“Now you’re just sucking up. C’mon. Let’s go home. I have a lot of explaining to do for running out in the middle of a meeting,” Marcus said as the two of them hopped into the car.
“Also. I hope you know… I have never been disappointed in you not having active powers. You’re my daughter and I love you so much. Your power is far more special than being able to fly or run fast.” He mentioned looking back at her.
Missy nodded her head muttering, “I love you too. Thank you.”
The Kids:
That night, Missy and Artemis texted one another, concocting a plan to get their parents together. Their plan was slightly devious, but it was their parents own good. They just hoped it would work.

Young Justice Universe
Dick Grayson x Barbara Gordon
I have a theory that Dick and Barbara totally got together in the middle of season 2 (as opposed to the time jump between S2 and S3) and nobody can convince me otherwise
Events take place after Young Justice S2 E9: Darkest
_
Dick was definitely not feeling the aster.
He was exhausted, much like anyone would be after nearly being blown up. As he walked along he kept replaying the sound of the explosion over and over again in his head. He clutched the flash drive Kaldur had passed to him right before they lost Mount Justice. He could have put it in his bag along with his Nightwing suit for safe keeping, but he couldn’t let go of it. He needed to feel it in his hand to keep telling himself it was worth it. Losing the cave. Almost losing his life. Continuing to lie to everyone else was worth it. It had to be.
As he rounded the corner, he paused and found himself holding his breath. She was there. Of course she was there. Barbara Gordon was sitting on the steps of his apartment building. She hadn’t looked up and seen him yet so his instincts told him to turn around and run. He’d grown distant from his best friend since this whole thing started. Dick was able to lie to the entire team, even the League, all this time because the fate of the world depended on the success of this plan. But he knew that if he looked Babs in the eyes, he wouldn’t be able to do it.
He chose to keep walking forward. Before he could say anything Barbara got up and hugged him. Her touch was a warmth he hadn’t felt in a while. He definitely missed her.
“Are you okay?” She said as she stepped back.
For a second Dick had forgotten what had just happened and that Mount Justice was gone. Reality set back in like a cold punch in the face.
“Yeah yeah. Everyone’s pretty shaken up, but we all made it out...except for those that were taken.” He said while avoiding meeting her eyes.
“Tim said that explosive took out the entire place.” She said in a way that sounded like a question.
So he nodded. But then when he looked back at her, her concerned expression turned into sadness for a brief moment. Dick forgot that Mount Justice had become a second home to Babs too when she joined the team.
They stood there for a minute before Barbara broke the silence.
“What’s actually wrong?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Dick said as he headed into the building.
Babs grabbed her gym bag from the steps and followed behind him, “yes you do.”
“I’m your best friend, Dick. I know when somethings wrong.” She said as he pressed the elevator button.
Dick stepped into the elevator and she invited herself in behind him. He chose to not address it so he tried to change the subject.
“What’s in the bag?” He said.
“What’s in your bag?”
“I asked you first.” He retorted without skipping a beat. He missed their banter.
She sighed sarcastically and unzipped her gym bag a little as it still hung on her shoulder. Right, dumb question. He saw the bat symbol on her suit’s chest plate and her cowl. It was past midnight so figures she was out patrolling. That’s two points in her column now cause this is further proof to her he was off his game. He could feel her eyes look up at him, so he knew he was right.
As he pulled out his keys and began opening his door he remembered the flash drive in his left hand. The events of the evening all rolled back to hit him like a tsunami. The harsh words from Wally echoed in his ears. It was worth it he told himself.
When they got inside Barbara made herself at home -as usual when she comes over. She laid down her stuff and headed to the kitchen. Dick put the flash drive on his dresser before heading for the couch. He fell into the cushions with the weight of the universe on him and put his head in his hands.
He felt Babs come back. She sat next to him and comfortably put her legs in his lap. She had opened a bag of chips and offered him some. They sat there together for a while in silence. Just two friends, eating chips, comfortably in each other’s company. Maybe it’s because Barbara knew him longer than almost anyone. She knew everything about him. She knew who he was, both as Dick Grayson and Nightwing -Robin before that. She was everything to him from his first kiss to his best partner out in the field.
Finally Barbara put the bag on the coffee table in front of them and she scooted closer to him. He put his arm on her knees.
“Talk to me, Grayson.” She said.
Dick finally brought himself to look at her. He looked at her and saw her deep, green eyes starring right at him. They weren’t filled with resentment like Wally’s or anguish like Conner’s. They were warm and comforting. He feared that if he told her what he wanted to tell her, that they wouldn’t look at him that way anymore.
He let out a sigh and closed his eyes. She reached for him. As he felt her soft touch on his face, he broke. He told her everything about the mission and the lies.
When he got to the part about Artemis working undercover with Kaldur, he noticed her expression get distant.
“So she’s -she’s alive?”
He nodded. And waited. Waited for her to yell at him. To tell him what he was doing was wrong. That it wasn’t worth it. Or worse, for her to say nothing.
Instead she looked at him and asked, “who knows?”
He told her about their tiny circle that was in on the plan. He told her how he felt lying to everyone on the team, about the flash drive, about how he felt responsible for the other’s kidnapping, about how he almost got his team -his family- killed. He felt like he had been underwater and how he could now finally breathe. He had kept everything bottled up for so long that now it exploded and he didn’t even notice there had been tears until he found himself wiping at a wet sensation on his cheek.
When he looked at Babs she didn’t say anything. She simply pulled him to her and embraced him. His head lay under her chin as he allowed himself to wrap his arms around her waist. Dick steadied himself as he listened to the rhythm of her heartbeat. They sat this way for a while.
Dick pulled away finally when he felt he’d gained control of his breathing and his thoughts. He looked at his best friend and said, “you’re not mad?”
She looked at him and took a long breath.
“No,” she said finally, “for as long as I’ve known you Dick, you never do anything to hurt anyone. Even if that means hurting yourself. I don’t like that you lied, but I understand why you did. I’m sorry you felt that this was something you had to take on by yourself. I’m sorry you felt like you had to be Batman...”
She trailed off at the end. Babs knew more than anyone that Dick no longer wanted to become Batman. She knew from working with him first-hand that Batman was somebody only Bruce Wayne could be. Anybody else would be crazy to try to act like Batman...except Dick did.
“I’m not telling you that you have to let me in on the rest of your mission,” Barbara said, “I just want you to know you’ll always have someone to talk to when things get overwhelming. You’re not Bruce, Dick. Never forget that you’re never alone.”
That was it. Leave it to Barbara to always have the perfect thing to say. He felt like a huge weight had been lifted off him and could feel a relief he hadn’t felt in ages. He looked at her and simply said, “thank you.”
She smiled.
“Soooo,” she said after a moment. “Wanna watch a movie or something?”
He raised an eyebrow.
Babs sighed, “I told my dad I was gonna sleep over at Mary’s to finish a project because the original plan was to spend the night on patrol since Bruce is presently out of town but then I heard what happened through the comms and I found myself coming here...”
She was starting to ramble a little. Dick noticed she only did that when she got nervous...and he’s rarely seen Babs get nervous. He hadn’t realized how close they were sitting to each other either.
“Yeah, we can watch a movie.” Dick agreed after he found himself starring at her lips for a little too long.
He tasked himself with finding something to watch while she got the bag of chips and went back to the kitchen to find something else for them to snack on.
Dick couldn’t help but watch her. He loved the way she walked around his apartment like she lived here too. So maybe it had been too long since the last time he’d seen her. Really seen her. Like outside of their costumed extra curricular activities. He missed her. Babs was always beautiful. And it wasn’t weird he thought of her in this way. They’ve always had a special type of relationship. But besides the usual playful flirting between them and a couple kisses -amazing kisses- they were just best friends. Secretly he’d been wishing they were more than that since he was 13 but he knew he wasn’t ready for her then.
Thinking back to their conversation, he realized how much they’ve each grown as people. And more importantly how it felt like they hadn’t grown out of each other as most childhood friends do. No, if anything they’ve grown more into each other. No matter how much time they spent apart, they could always come back together and fit perfectly like two pieces of a puzzle. The sound of a pop from the microwave brought him back outside his thoughts. Then he stood up, like on autopilot and as if his brain had just said “fuck it. Stop being a coward” he walked across to where Babs was waiting on the popcorn. As she turned to address him, Dick took her face in one hand and her waist in the other and kissed her. It was a long and deep kiss. He pulled away a little after to see her expression.
He was close enough that when she opened her eyes again he could see her pupils were dilated as she looked up at him. They were both breathing slightly heavy from the kiss. He could tell he caught her off guard but he didn’t know how to string words together to say how much he just wanted her and was tired of dancing around it. So he hoped his eyes were enough to convey that message. The silence was broken by the microwave beeping. Dick took the bowl out and put it on the side of the stove to let it cool a bit.
“Dick?” Barbara said making him turn around.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. He started kissing her back and as their lips moved together Dick felt a warm feeling in his stomach. Is that what people mean when they say butterflies? He’d been with other women but never felt that. He pushed her up onto the kitchen counter and his hands traveled to her waist. Her hands moved from the back of his neck to his hair as she pulled him closer. Her lips were so soft that he never wanted to depart from them and her touch was so soothing that he felt every worry lift off his body making him feel weightless.
The way their bodies moved together was in perfect synch. Like two pieces of a puzzle, he thought to himself. He noticed her hands had gone down to the bottom of his shirt, gently tugging at it. So he pulled apart for a moment and took it off. Her hands felt so amazing as they touched his chest. As their lips met again this time his wandered down towards her neck. He hasn’t realized she was wearing a black tank top that fit her so well until the moment when he began pulling it off her. Their eyes locked as she smiled at him. He couldn’t help but smile back because her happiness was always contagious to him.
Dick realized that if they were going to continue, they shouldn’t keep doing so on his kitchen counter. Without skipping a beat he effortlessly picked her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist and he carried her over to his bed.

Fairytale: Fairytale (Newt Scamander x Reader)
━━━━━━•✦.✧.☾.✧.✦•━━━━━
It took only a couple years after what happened in Paris to fully take down Grindelwald. Leta was killed in the final battle and that left Theseus in shambles. When he returned to London, he apparated to a lonely flat. The place where the only person who would understand his pain lived- Victoria.
From there, the rest was history.
•✦.✧.☾.✧.✦•
“Thanks for watching the kids, Newt. Theseus and I needed a day off.” Victoria said as her kids ran in the living room of Newt’s flat.
Theseus sighed. “Mei Anne Mendoza Scamander. Thaddeus Alden Mendoza Scamander, please stop running around. You’re sure to break something.”
Newt glanced at Theseus, his niece and nephew before looking back at Victoria. “It’s no problem. You know I love watching them…” He thought for a moment, “Merlin, those are long names…”
Victoria gave Newt a look, crossing her arms over her chest. “You’re one to talk, Newton Artemis Fido Scama-”
He chuckled, “Okay, okay. Point taken. Now off you go before you end up missing your reservation.”
Theseus walked over to Victoria, wrapping his arms around her waist. “Vi… Do something.”
Victoria smiled. “Watch and learn.” She slowly got out of Theseus’ embrace and walked to where the kitchen met the living room. Her children were still running around, laughing at their game of tag. Victoria giggled softly before clicking her tongue.
In a blink of an eye, Mei Anne and Thaddeus stopped and looked at their mother.
“Halika dito,” ‘Come here’ She said calmly. Mei Anne and Thaddeus slowly made their way to their mother.
“See what you did?” Thaddeus whispered to his sister.
“Me? You started running!” Mei Anne replied.
When the pair stood in front of their mother, they could feel her staring down at them. Victoria squatted, making sure she was at their level.
“Maging mabuti, okay?” ‘Be good?’ Victoria asked.
“Yes, nanay.” ‘Yes, mom.’ They answered.
“Promise?”
“Yes.” They nodded.
Victoria smiled and kissed their foreheads. “Okay, your father and I will see you later then. Don’t give Tito Newt a hard time. You can go back to playing, just stay where he can see you.”
Mei Anne and Thaddeus smiled before going back into the living room and looked at Newt’s bookshelf.
Victoria stood and walked over to the brothers who were staring at her in awe. “Close your mouth boys, you’ll catch flies.”
Newt and Theseus shook out of their amazement. “That’s amazing!” Newt said excitedly.
“I know. I find it fascinating whenever she speaks Tagalog. It seems the children like it when she speaks to them in another language.” Theseus praised.
Victoria rolled her eyes playfully. “Just wait until I teach them Japanese.”
“I thought you were Chinese?” Newt asked.
She hummed. “I am, but my mom and I were never exposed to our Chinese culture whilst we were growing up. She learned Japanese from her caretakers, and I learned it from my mom.”
“You can tell me more about it at dinner,” Theseus suggested.
“Right! Dinner!” Victoria exclaimed. “See you around ten?”
Newt nodded, “See you at ten.”
~*~*~
After showing Mei Anne and Thaddeus all his creatures, and feeding them dinner (Yes, because children need to eat real food Newton), it was time for them to get some sleep.
“But Uncle Newt… We’re not tired…” Thaddeus whined.
“Yeah, I wanna play with the Nifflers again…” Mei Anne added.
With both kids in his arms, he carried them over to the living room and set them down on the couch. “If I don’t get you to bed your mum would lecture me.”
Thaddeus shivered, quickly holding a couch pillow to his chest. “I don’t like mummy’s lecture voice. It’s calm, but something about it is scary.”
Newt chuckled, sitting on the floor in front of them. “How about I tell you a bedtime story.”
Mei Anne nodded. “Will you? We love bedtime stories!”
He nodded, “Alright then… Where do I start…”
Thaddeus cuddled close to his sister for warmth. Mei Anne took the couch blanket and set it over their laps. They both were quiet and attentive.
“It all started a long time ago. When a stable boy fell in love with the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen. Day after day, he’d go out and pick the best-looking sunflower from the community gardens and gift it to her.”
“These are for you, (Y/N). I hope you like them…” Newt mumbled, holding out a sunflower bouquet.
(Y/N) smiled, playing with the ends of her sleeve. “Newt! How did you know these were my favorite?”
“I remember you saying they were your favorite in Herbology once…”
“But Newt, that was in first year!”
Mei Anne smiled. “I want someone to give me sunflowers!”
Newt chuckled. “Soon they became friends. And even though they couldn’t see it, everyone around them was aware that they were in love.”
Newt turned the corner, looking for the Herbology book he needed for his essay. He didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but he couldn’t help it. “Last time I checked, you were a Ravenclaw this morning,” Victoria asked.
“What are you talking about?”
A pause before he heard (Y/N) speak again. “O-Oh! I was just cold… That’s all…”
Newt put the pieces together- they were talking about how he gave her his robes.
“I was just cold! That’s all..” Victoria mimicked teasingly. “But seriously… Are you ever going to tell him?”
“No, I don’t think I will…”
And that’s when Newt left to find the book he needed. Of course, they quickly changed the subject. Sure, he was the topic of interest for a second, but he knew how Victoria could easily change the subject without the person knowing.
‘She would never like me in that way anyway.’ He thought.
“Although, things started to get in the way of their friendship. In their younger years, the stable boy started being around another girl. He thought he could manage his time between his first love and the new girl, but in the end, he chose to be around the new girl.” Newt sighed as he reminisced on all the missed moments he had with (Y/N).
Mei Anne grumbled. “Ugh. Boys are stupid. Why couldn’t he just tell her!”
Thaddeus looked up to his sister. “I’m not stupid!”
Mei Anne sighed and ruffled his hair. “Okay… Boys are stupid… Except you, Uncle Newt, dad, and Uncle Jacob.”
“Oh, don’t say that. I was… pretty dumb when it came to certain things.” Newt admitted.
“What happened when they got older?” Thaddeus asked, looking back to Newt.
Newt swallowed. He tried to think of a way to explain the past ten years without going into too much detail. “Well… The stable boy got into some trouble and ran away. He kept in touch with his first love through letters, but he was always on the run- looking for new creatures to study. When he finally returned to the village, he found out that his first love had fallen in love with someone else-”
“WHAT? But… But they were in love! How could she just… love someone else…?” Thaddeus interrupted.
“Because she didn’t know! As mum always said, you miss all the shots you don’t take.” Mei Anne added.
“Can I continue the story?” Newt asked, causing the children to stop rambling.
“Thing is… There was a war going on. So the stable boy’s first love had parted with her lover. Within that time, the stable boy and his first love started getting closer. He was so close to confessing his feelings. Until a monster took her away.
“Oooh, I bet it was a scary dragon!!” Thaddeus exclaimed.
“T, it wasn’t a dragon. It was probably some kidnapper!” Mei Anne
Newt sighed. “Hmm… I guess you could say he was a kidnapper. He used his words to trick people into following him. The stable boy spent day after day trying to find his lost love. He vowed that the moment he found her again… They’d have a brand new start.”
“And did he find her?” Mei Anne asked.
“Legend says that he’s still looking for her,” Newt said, ending his story.
KNOCK KNOCK
“And that’s your mum and dad!”
“But!! The story!!!” Thaddeus whined.
Newt stood to open the door, letting Victoria and Theseus inside. “I hope they weren’t too much trouble,” said Theseus.
“Uncle Newt was telling us a story about a stable boy and his first love!” Mei Anne cheered, the feeling of sleep disappearing.
Victoria looked at Newt, “Oh really?”
“Uh-huh! And the stable boy went through so much heartbreak and… His love was kidnapped and the stable boy is still trying to find her.” Thaddeus said, waddling over to his mom.
Theseus walked over to the couch to pick Mei Anne and carry her. “Oh… Such a sad tale. Did the stable boy ever find her?”
Mei Anne shook her head. “No… Uncle Newt said that he’s still trying to find her…”
Victoria sighed and picked up Thaddeus, who was tugging at her skirt and making grabby hands at her. “Yeah… Me too…” She muttered.
~*~*~
Another date night and Newt was on babysitting duty. Not like he minded. A popping sound echoed through the basement.
“I’ll see who it is, Uncle Newt!” Mei Anne yelled as she turned the corner. She saw a woman standing at the bottom of the basement stairs.
The woman looked down at Mei Anne in confusion. “W-Who are you? Where are your parents?”
Mei Anne walked closer to the woman, her eyes ever so observant. She tilted her head to the side when she realized who it was. “Aunty (Y/N)?”
“H-How do you know my name? Who are you?” (Y/N) asked, meeting Mei Anne halfway.
Mei Anne held her ground. “I’ve heard mum talk about you a lot.”
She squatted down to Mei Anne’s height. “So he married Tina, hm?”
“What? Are you talking about Aunty Tina? No… She’s mum’s friend.”
(Y/N) looked closer at the girl in front of her. Long black hair, soft blue-green eyes, slightly tan skin, and the cutest freckles on her face. Half of these were definitely Scamander qualities… but who was the other half? “It seems that you know my name, but I don’t know yours.”
“My name is Mei Anne Mendoza Scamander. I’m five years old and I have a little brother named Thaddeus Alden Mendoza Scamander!” She said proudly.
“Mei Mei, what’s taking you so long? Uncle Newt’s gonna show us Kelpie!!” Thaddeus exclaimed, turning the same corner. “Who’s this, Mei Mei?”
(Y/N) looked past Mei Anne to see her brother.
Thaddeus had nicely styled brown hair, dark brown eyes, and slightly tanned skin but a skin tone lighter than his sister’s. She swore that if he came closer, he’d have those Scamander freckles on his cheeks too.
She gasped, her hands covering her mouth. “Oh… How did I not see that? You two are almost sheer copies of your parents…”
Just then the door to the basement opened, “Mei Mei, Thaddeus, Newt! We’re here!” Victoria called out as they descended the stairs.
With every click of Victoria’s heels, (Y/N) had the urge to Disapparate out of there. That was until Mei Anne called out, “Nanay! Look who came to visit?”
Victoria quickly walked down the remaining steps, Theseus following close behind. “Who is it? Aunty Tina? Aunty Queenie and Uncle Jacob? Who could it be-” She stopped at the bottom of the steps and (Y/N) stood from her squatting position. They felt it.
The small bit of warmth from the charm bracelets they got all those years ago… “(Y/N)..?”
(Y/N) turned around slowly. “Hey, Vi… It’s me…”
Theseus smiled and softly pushed Victoria forward. “Don’t just stand here, hug her!”
“I missed you so much…” (Y/N) whispered as they shared a long hug. Soon, Theseus and the kids joined in on the hug.
When they all pulled away, Newt finally joined the rest. “Mei Mei, Thaddeus! Where have you two been? Have you found out who Apparated here? Victoria! Theseus! You weren’t supposed to be here until later- (Y/N)?” Newt rambled.
“Thanks again for watching the kids, Newton!” Victoria smiled. She then whispered something in (Y/N)’s ear before leaving with Theseus and the kids.
“(Y/N)...” Newt trailed off, shoving his hands into his pockets.
She smiled. “Hello, Newt.”
And all was well. It may have taken a while to adjust, but Newt and (Y/N) managed it. After all… it was their fairytale.

Ms. Bodyguard Masterlist
A/N: Lyrics are taken from Paul Simon’s – Call me Al
* The reader likes to use songs as passwords (in this chapter Call me Al) and names of Greece Gods as special passcodes. Here’s a short explanation of what every code means:
Artemis – danger to life (client got attacked)
Ares – drop everything and run
Aphrodite – the client wants to be alone with a lover/love interest
Dionysus – the client is drunk/took drugs
Hades – client got hit/heavily injured/close to death
Hera – family of the client is in danger
Zeus – attacker sighted
Athena – backup needed/call the police
Poseidon – distraction needed to transfer the client safely
Nemesis – attacker/stalker down
Hephaestus – weapon needed/weapon got lost
“Hey-Betty.” Clif runs one hand down his face while he tries to make you answer his call. “I know you listen to me talking to your mailbox. I got a problem. - It’s Al…”
If you want an answer, do the whole song… An automatic answer replies and Clif takes a deep breath. He knows you do this kind of game to keep your clients safe but sometimes – it’s annoying to ‘play’ with you.
“Y/N come on. You know that only me got this number since you work alone. Give me a chance. I’ve got a client, or rather a good friend who’s in danger. Please.”
If you want an answer, do the whole song… Again, Clif sighs but he’s got no other choice, so he clears his throat and starts singing the song you chose as his password.
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long-lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al
While Clif sings the song, you hold your stomach, laughing hard as he is, by all means, an awful singer. Tears well up to your eyes and after weeks of being bitter you have a soft smile on your lips remembering the training with your friend.
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long-lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al
The song ends and you listen closely, waiting for Clif to use a specific passcode to inform you about his current situation. If you trust anyone, it’s your old friend and training partner but in your business – you can never be careful enough or you end up dead.
“Passcode: Artemis,” Clif said the password for a worst-case scenario and you answer his call.
“Y/N, my friend got a serious problem. It’s red already. Are you still in Saudi Arabia or can you come back to the states?”
“I packed my stuff Clif and you can speak freely; the line is safe.” Rubbing your sore eyes, you sit up to listen to your friend’s explanations. “But let me tell you one more thing before you start – you are one awful singer.”
Clif huffs before he grins on the other side of the line. “Did you finish your ‘princess’ job? I don’t want to mess with another job.”
A soft smile tugs at the corner of your lips hearing your friend is worrying about you and your job. “I heard she married…”
“Married and became a spoiled bitch. Let’s say we parted ways before I had to split her skull with my combat knife, Clif.” He chuckles lightly but this time, you can’t laugh with him. “Now back to your problem.”
“That bad, Riffle? What did she do?” Clif avoids your question and you wonder who is in trouble.
All you know is he worked for a TV show over the last years, nothing else. It’s not as if you had the time to stay in contact with friends while protecting a princess.
“What happened, Y/N?”
“Husband said I am no longer needed. She agreed. End of story.” Looking at your gun on the nightstand your eyes sadden.
“I protected her for six years, Clif. Now she married a rich guy and I am…disposable. I got hit by a bullet for her…twice. For years I believed she’s different, my friend, but in the end they are all the same.”
“I am sorry to hear, Riffle. Never thought that she’s a…” Clif gulps when you laugh bitterly. “A spoiled brat? At least I learned my lesson, buddy. No more princesses…”
“Great. My friend is a guy, actor and he got attacked by an unknown person last week. He tried to play it cool, but the studio is on high alert. A guy managed to sneak on set, waited for Jensen to be alone, and stabbed him.” Clif huffs at the other end of the line and you know he wants to take the blame.
“Clif, I love you but stop right now. It’s not your job, it’s the security guards’ job to keep the set safe. We both know how often people can sneak on set to take pictures, steal scripts, or crap. I will help you but only if you stop taking the blame.” Now you huff as Clif chuckles lightly.
“Okay, Riffle. When can I pick you up?” Glancing at your packed suitcases and duffle bags you try to remember which time it is in the US. “Y/N?”
“I will book a flight in the morning. Tell me where I have to be and send me his profile. I need to know everything about that guy, his family and working place. I need to meet him too before I agree to protect him.” You are adamant about your rules, so Clif agrees without arguing.
“I’ll send you the information to the FTP server. Give me three or four hours. The destination is Vancouver. I’ll pick you up and we can talk on our way. Do you know anything about Supernatural?”
“Did a ghost kick his ass or Bigfoot?” Smirking you hear Clif explaining he meant a TV show called ‘Supernatural’ and not the supernatural in general.
Good thing your friend can’t see you as you roll your eyes at his explanation about the ‘cool’ show he’s working for.
“Clif, I did not watch TV for like six or seven years. Oh-fifteen years? That’s a freaking long time for a series, dude. Now let me have some sleep. I suggest you tell your friend to stay at the hospital. There are cameras, a security team and the cops will guard his room. Do not let him go home…”
“Got it, Y/N. Goodnight and thank you.” When Clif hangs up you sigh deeply. Tomorrow you will leave the land you called home for the last six years. Even worse – you will leave a friend, as she no longer needs you…
Reaching US ground for the first time in six years feels odd, strange even. Saudi Arabia was your home for so many years and being away from Soraya, the first client you would call family feels wrong, but you had to leave.
She lied to you. She betrayed you. She wanted you gone…
Her father called you to his office right before you were ready to head out to the airport, asking you why you quit as his daughter’s bodyguard out of the blue.
You could’ve told him the truth, that his daughter is an ungrateful brat, but Abdallah was always good to you and doesn’t deserve to get into a fight with his daughter and son-in-law.
At first, he didn’t like the idea of having a woman around to protect his only child but with you, not being a man, he could be sure you can stay by her side in any situation.
It pained you to lie to him, but this was the last time you could protect your client. One last time you took the bullet when you told him you want a change of scenery.
He looked at you with disgust and kicked you out of his office. Well, that’s what you get when you try to save his daughter.
“Y/N!” Clif waves at you, a big smile on his face as you walk toward the exit. “Wait. I’ll take your bags.”
“Clif, don’t get me wrong. I know you are a gentleman and all, but I can carry my shit, okay. Now let’s get this straight. Your client is Jensen Ackles, he got attacked by a guy who blames him for fucking a z-list starlet and the cops didn’t get him so far.” Ignoring your speech Clif grabs your suitcases to place them into his car.
“Correct. Jensen had like two or three dates with that girl. They uh—Aphrodite* me a few times and after the third date they got into a fight.” Clif explains while you take notes.
“She accused him of cheating on her, he yelled back they only fucked, and I drove her home while Jay stayed at the bar.”
“Okay. What happened next?” Opening the door to the passenger seat for you Clif tries to explain the girl started to stalk Jensen.
She called him daily, send disgusting messages, and nudes to his twitter account and stood in front of his house more than once.
“Did he call the cops?” Hopping into Clif’s car you watch him shakes his head. “Let me guess. Mr. Ackles didn’t want to look like the victim. So, he’s a macho?”
“Listen, he tried not to get her into trouble. Jensen believed she would cool off and stop with that shit she pulled. He changed his number, reported her doings to twitter, and told me, the security on set and his colleagues about it.”
“I assume she didn’t stop?” Your friend shakes his head while he pulls out of the parking lot. “It got worse?”
“Awful even. She came to set, naked only wearing a thong. She cut Jensen’s name into her stomach and we had to call the cops, an ambulance, and fight off the press.”
Nodding you check the files Clif sent to you. “She’s at an asylum for four months and gets better. After she got medicated the girl realized not Jensen was her problem.”
“Maybe she lied? Maybe she’s behind the attack?”
“We checked her contacts thrice, Y/N. I am not as good as you or your former team, but we normal bodyguards are not useless either.” Patting your friend's shoulder you give him a soft smile. “No one visited her or contacted her before the attack.”
“I know, Clifie. Relax. I would never thing low about you, okay. I just need all information to see the picture.” Clif keeps his eyes on the street while you scroll through the files. “No parents. No siblings. So, no angry family. No ex-boyfriends or husbands. Check.”
“She was a loner. The girl tried to help us, but no one came to her mind.” Clif explains as you shut off your iPad.
“No secret admirer sending her flowers or cards? No one claiming he was the one attacking your client?” Your friend shakes his head and you frown.
“That’s odd, Clif. I mean, if that guy did it to avenge that girl, he would’ve shouted it from the rooftops to get her attention.”
“I know, Y/N. That’s the reason I called you for help. This is…fishy. My instinct tells me something is off with that attack and the way Jensen met that girl. I don’t want to sound like a lunatic but…”
“Dude, only as you are paranoid doesn’t mean they are not after you.” Chortling you give Clif a wink. I will dig deeper and see what I’ll find. Let me call a friend of a friend.”
“C.I.A., F.B.I., or someone else?” Giving you side-glances your friend gulps when you whisper, ‘someone else’. “What will you have to do to ‘dig deeper’?”
“Nothing. That asshole owes me his life and balls.” You smile at Clif, but he can see it’s a fake smile. Whatever past you have with this man, you’ll never tell anyone.
“I don’t need another bodyguard, Clif. For fuck's sake! She looks like a tramp or schoolgirl!” Jensen yells when you enter the room with your friend.
No matter which insults he throws at you, your face remains stoic, your eyes are trained on his face and your posture never changes.
“I don’t need a little girl protecting me! I bet if she sees Jared that girl will go for a run.” Jensen gets out of the hospital bed, hissing as his wound still hurts and he refused to take pain meds.
“Jay-uh—hey!” A tall man enters the room, a knife in his hands, and before Clif, Jensen or the guy can blink you lunge out to twist his arms behind his back to pin the tall man against the wall, face first.
He struggles in your hold but there is no escape when you kick his legs apart.
“Y/N don’t kill him! That’s Jared, Jensen’s friend, and colleague!” Clif gasps and the man you still hold pinned to the wall nods eagerly.
“He had a knife!” Voice controlled; dominant you do not let go of Jared. “Why did he come into Mr. Ackles's hospital room, a knife in his hands?”
“Sorry, but that’s a knife made of chocolate. I thought it’s funny, but I guess, the joke is on me.” Jared huffs and you look at the knife which lies abandoned on the floor.
“Okay, Jared. I will let you go but you will wait until I checked on the knife or you’ll feel my knife pierce your lung.” Warning the tall man, you reluctantly let go of him.
Clif already picked the ‘knife’ up only to break it into two halves. “Chocolate, Y/N.”
“Holy fucking shit!” Jensen gapes at you holding a combat knife in your hand. “Did you call for the Terminator?”

Never Suspected - Young Justice Imagine - Part Two
Part One
Requested by Anon - Please, write a sequel to Never Suspected! It is so good!
Requested by Anon - Could you write a part 2 to "Never Suspected", where the team makes it up to Reader for their previous attitudes towards her?
***
You struggled to breathe as tears ran down your cheeks. Holding your baby girl to your hip, you tried to shoulder her diaper bag and your backpack.
“Don’t you dare come back here, you disappointment,” your father yelled behind you. You stumbled down the stairs. Your baby started crying loudly, scared. “I told you to keep that...that thing hidden.”
“I’m...I’m...” You couldn’t catch your breath. Your mother stood by the front door, holding it open for you.
“Get out.” She didn’t look at you. Your heart ached like a hole was shot through it. Your baby cried even louder. She wiggled around in your arms. You headed out the front door and down the steps. The door slammed behind you. The sound sent a jolt through your body.
Your feet started walking. A sob escaped your lips. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” You tried to soothe your daughter, but she wouldn’t calm until you did.
Somehow, you made your way to the nearest zeta tube and went to the cave. You didn’t know where else to go. Red Tornado was the only one there, filling out a report.
He turned at your baby’s scream. “(Y/N), is something wrong?” Red Tornado came over to you.
“Can I stay here?” You dropped your bags to wipe your eyes with one hand.
Red Tornado stared at you with his blank expression. “Yes. You already have a room here, (Y/N).”
Your baby girl screamed louder. You hugged her to you, bouncing her gently. Red Tornado just looked at you for a long moment. He turned away and went back to work on his report. You buried your face into your baby’s head, crying even harder than before.
“(Y/N)?” Conner came into the room with Wolf right behind him. He came to a stop when he saw what a mess you were and that your baby was with you.
M’gann flew into the room, almost as if Conner might have called her. “(Y/N), what’s wrong?” She brought you into her arms. Your baby choked at little in surprise. “Come on, let’s go sit.” She guided you out of the room toward the living room. Conner followed with your bags. He had an confused expression on his face.
“I’m s...sorr...sorry.” You whimpered. Your baby reached up to touch your face, still crying with you. M’gann took your baby and handed her off to Conner once he set the bags down. Your daughter stopped crying as Conner held her in front of him. They both stared at each other blankly.
“Don’t be sorry.” M’gann hugged you. You gasped, struggling to catch your breath. “Take your time.” It took you a long time before you finally calmed enough to speak. Meanwhile, Conner and your daughter continued to stare at each other.
“I messed up.” M’gann handed you a tissue. You did your best to mop up your face. “I was washing some of my girl’s bottles in the kitchen and I left them there because she woke up from her nap. My parents had friends over and they saw the bottles.” You shivered. M’gann patted your hand soothingly.
“Couldn’t they just say that they were old bottles or something?” M’gann reasoned.
You shook your head. “No, because then my baby girl started crying very loudly. She’s teething.” You glanced over at Conner and your daughter. They were still staring at each other. “Conner, you can hold her differently than that.” Conner blushed, bringing your daughter to his chest. She snuggled into him.
M’gann smiled at the sight, squeezing your hand. “So what happened after that?”
“They kicked me out, because their friends figured out that the baby was mine. I guess my parents weren’t that good at keeping it a secret.” Blood rushed to your face. Your eyes burned from crying so much. “I was only able to grab a few clothes, the diaper bag, and my school stuff.”
“Well, you can stay here. We have rooms here for everyone,” M’gann soothed, hugging you again. “And we can go back and get more stuff once you know your parents will be out of the house.”
You smiled. “Thank you.” You turned away to blow your nose. M’gann got up and came back to give you a glass of water. “I thought it was going to be the end of the world.”
“No, we’re all here for you.” M’gann patted your shoulder. Conner finally relaxed, rocking your daughter as she dozed off. You sighed in relief. The hole in your heart didn’t feel so empty anymore.
***
You used your key to open the front door. “Are you sure your parents are gone?” Dick asked.
“Yeah, they should be at work.” You led the way inside. Artemis, Dick, and Wally followed you, glancing around the house. You headed upstairs. “But we shouldn’t take too long. I want to be back before my daughter wakes up. I’m not sure M’gann or Zatanna know how to change a diaper.”
Artemis snorted. “They’ve been practicing ever since we found out.” You glanced back at her in surprise. Wally and Dick stopped to look at your baby photo in the hallway while you pushed into your room. It was untouched. You grabbed a few bags from under your bed and gestured for Artemis to start packing your dresser.
Dick came in with the baby photo and slipped it into a bag before he knelt down to pack up your daughter’s play pen/bed. “Well, at least we can get everything,” Dick said.
You tossed a bag at Wally. “Can you grab the bottles from the kitchen?”
Wally nodded, zooming away. Artemis was packing baby clothes carefully. Dick finished with the play pen. He watched you reach under your mattress to pull out four hundred dollar bills. “What the hell?”
The blood rushed to your face. “Sorry, that’s where I keep it.” You slipped the money into your shoe before digging out the baby food from under your bed. Dick came over to help you pack it. Wally came back with bottles and a bag of chips. He opened them and snacked.
“Wally, this isn’t your house. Don’t eat the food,” Artemis snapped, taking the bag of chips from him.
“Come on.” He stole it back. “It doesn’t matter. They won’t notice one bag of chips.”
You and Dick shared a knowing look. “It’s okay. Let Wally eat,” you said. They both turned to look at you. “My parents will already know we’ve been here, so it doesn’t matter.”
Wally grinned. “Thanks, (Y/N).” You gave him a tight smile, packing the diapers as well. The four of you fell silent, packing what you could. About thirty minutes later, you all left your house with the bags in hand. You took one last look before locking the front door behind you with your house key inside.
***
Your baby squawked at you as you arrived through the zeta tube. “There they are,” Zatanna sang, rocking your daughter. You hurried over to her and took her into your arms. Showering her with kisses, your daughter laughed in delight. She grabbed your hair, trying to climb all over you. Wally, Artemis, Dick, and Zatanna watched in amusement.
“Was she good for you?” you asked, looking up at Zatanna once you had given enough love to your daughter.
“Yeah, she was an angel.” Zatanna moved to take one of the bags from Artemis. M’gann flew into the room with a bottle for your daughter.
“Can I feed her, (Y/N)? You’ll have to get your room ready anyway,” M’gann asked, looking at you with pleading eyes.
You glanced down at your daughter who smiled up at you. “Sure, but she does fuss a lot when she gets fed by someone else. I want to warn you.” You handed your daughter over. She whined, but M’gann began to rock her and calmed her down in a instant. “Or never mind.”
“I got her.” M’gann smiled at you. You smiled back at her before picking up your bags to head to your bedroom.
***
“Hush, I know it hurts,” you soothed in your daughter’s ear. You bounced her in your arms as she cried. Drool dripped out of her mouth. She sucked on her fingers. “Those teeth are nasty, but you need to calm down. We can’t wake up the others.” You glanced at the clock on your bedside table to see it was after midnight.
Your daughter looked at you with big, watery eyes. A crack went through your heart. “We’ll go get your teething ring, okay?” You slipped out of your bedroom and shuffled down the hall with your baby in your arms. She calmed, relaxed by the motion.
Conner’s door opened as you passed. You froze. Both you and your daughter stared at him. He blinked. “Is she going to quiet down soon?”
“Um.” You glanced down at your daughter. She looked back at you with those same big, watery eyes. “I’ll try, but she’s in pain.” Your daughter whined. You stuck your finger in her mouth to rub her gums and her first tooth. “Her teeth are coming in.”
Conner grunted before closing his door. You flinched. A sigh escaped you. You continued to the kitchen, digging into the freezer to find her teething ring. Your daughter started to cry again. It echoed loudly throughout the cave. Panic made your throat tighten.
“Hush, sweetheart. Please be quiet. I’m finding your teething ring.” You bounced her. She bit your finger hard. You pulled it away from her with a gasp. Tears burned in your eyes. “Honey, you’re going to get us thrown out of here too.”
Your daughter just cried louder. Suddenly, the lights turned on. “(Y/N)?” Kaldur asked from the doorway. You turned to find him in pajamas, yawning. “What is wrong?”
A tear slipped down your cheek. Your daughter went into a full out scream. “I’m sorry.” You finally found the teething ring in the freezer and stuck it in her mouth to quiet her. She choked, spitting it out to keep screaming. “No, no, no, I’m sorry. I know it’s too cold.”
Kaldur watched you before coming to your side. “I will take her.” He held out his arms. You look at him in disbelief, but he didn’t pull away. Slowly, you handed your bawling daughter over to him. He whispered to her in Atlantean. Your baby quieted to stare up at him in confusion. He reached over for the teething ring in your hand and gently placed it in her mouth, removing it once and a while before it got too cold.
Your jaw dropped to the floor. It took you a moment to compose yourself. Blood rushed to your cheeks, but luckily Kaldur didn’t notice as his eyes were on your daughter. “I’m sorry she woke you up. She’s teething and she was in pain.” Your voice cracked. Another tear of frustration ran down your cheek. You brushed it away with the back of your hand. Your hands trembled from the stress.
“It is alright. I was up anyway.” Kaldur glanced up at you. “I have her for now. You should go to bed, (Y/N). When is the last time you slept?”
A broken laugh escaped you. “Never since she was born.” You looked at your daughter with love. She looked back at you before staring up at Kaldur again. Her eyes calmed you like nothing else. “She likes you.”
“Perhaps.” Kaldur blushed. “I can watch her while you sleep.”
You blinked, stunned by his generosity. “I can’t do that.” The parent in you wouldn’t let you go, though the teenager in you wanted to sleep so badly.
“Well, let us at least sit down.” He rocked your daughter as he led you into the living room. He made himself comfortable on the couch. You sank down next to him, melting into the cushions. Your head rested on the back of the couch.
“Tell Conner I’m sorry,” you mumbled. Your eyelids grew heavier by the second.
“Why?” Kaldur shifted closer to you. You could feel his body heat against you.
“We woke him up. He seemed upset.” You drifted off into the darkness of sleep. The world slipped away. You heard your daughter sucking on the teething ring. It soothed you to know she was nearby and content.
“I am sure he understands.” Kaldur’s words were the last thing you remembered.
***
Kaldur bit his lip, glancing at you from where you slept on his shoulder. He smiled at how at peace you were. The baby in his arms was asleep too. He could see you in her face and it made his heart melt just a little bit more. Wolf padded into the room with Conner behind him. He grunted when he saw Kaldur.
“Superboy,” Kaldur said with a nod. “Would you be so kind to help me get (Y/N) to bed?”
“No.” However, he made his way over to gently pick you up into his arms. Kaldur smiled. He got up with your daughter. She stayed asleep as he made the slow walk back to your room. Conner laid you down in bed before quickly leaving the room.
Kaldur nodded at him in thanks. He laid your daughter down in her bed and covered her with her blanket. Your daughter sighed deeply, shifting to get comfortable. Kaldur smiled down at her before moving to tuck you into bed. “Good night, (Y/N),” he whispered as he closed the door behind him.
***
You doubled checked the diaper bag as your baby rattled one of her toys from her seat on the floor. “(Y/N), are you almost ready?” Raquel asked, poking her head in your room. Your daughter squawked at her. “Hello, darling.” Raquel got down to her level to kiss her cheek. Your baby laughed.
“Just about.” You smiled over at the two of them as you closed up the diaper bag. “Has M’gann stopped freaking out? I know she was nervous about the new cheer leading routine.”
“No, I’m just glad she left already.” Raquel scooped your daughter up, bouncing her on her hip. “That girl was making me nervous.”
You shook your head, slipping the diaper bag on your shoulder. “No kidding.” You and Raquel headed out to the living room where Conner, Kaldur, and Artemis were waiting. Artemis came over to shower your daughter with attention. Your heart brightened at the sight.
“Now we just have to wait for Wally. Dick and Zatanna have a date tonight,” Raquel laughed, wiggling her eyebrows at Artemis. Artemis just rolled her eyes.
You played with your sleeve. “I wanted to say something to all of you before we go. I’ve already told M’gann, Zatanna, and Dick this.” You cleared your throat when you saw them all turn to you. “Thank you for helping me and my daughter so much. It’s been hard to do this alone and I don’t think we could survived without your help.” You forced yourself to meet their eyes.
“You are welcome, (Y/N),” Kaldur said first, smiling at you. Your face burned at the sight, remembering how you fell asleep on him.
“Besides, we were mean to you. We had to make it up to you,” Raquel added. She blew a raspberry into your daughter’s tummy, making her scream with delight.
Conner grunted. Artemis patted your back and wrapped her arm around you. “We’re happy to help,” she said. You smiled back at her.
“We have to go or we will be late.” Conner got to his feet, leading the way out toward the zeta tubes. “West can meet us there.”
Raquel handed your daughter back to you. “I’m glad you’re here, (Y/N).”
You smiled at her, content beyond belief. “Yeah, me too.” Your daughter laughed, sucking on your shirt. You kissed her forehead, knowing you were both finally had a home at last.

-Yeosang’s P. O. V-
I ran through the dense forest, forcing my legs to go faster. This sense of dread and urgency had filled my entire being for the past hour. I couldn’t quite place why I was feeling like this but I knew I had to get there quick. I didn’t know why I was feeling this but it was a feeling all too familiar to me. Images of them crying out to me for help as they were mercilessly slaughtered painted the walls of my mind, their screaming echoing loudly. With that in my mind I pushed myself harder, my chest heaving up and down rapidly as I ran. I was so focused on getting there in time I didn’t sense those that hid behind the trees until it was too late.
I barely managed to deflect the arrow that was aimed straight for my heart. I grit my teeth when a sword followed that arrow, once again narrowly missing its mark as I blocked it.
“Athena!” I growled, pushing back against her, slamming my shoulder into her to throw her back.
I raised my sword up high, about to cut her down when I froze at the cry that rang through the forest.
“Yeosang!!”
I looked around desperately, trying to figure out in which direction her voice came from. I was only distracted for a second but that was enough for one of them to kick my legs out from underneath me, landing a blow to my face at the same time. There was only one that had that kind of speed, my eyes finding him quickly.
“Hermes.” I snarled, glaring up at him.
I quickly got to my feet but as soon as I did I felt something like a whip hit my back. I turned to see someone I least expected, my eyes growing wide.
“Poseidon?” I expected the rest of them to be here, hell I even expected Apollo but never Poseidon.
“YEOSANG!”
I inhaled sharply at the pain filled shout that filled the quiet forest. I turned in every direction, wanting to go to her but I didn’t know which way to go. Frustrated, I let out a cry of my own, the sound that fell from my lips almost animalistic as the ground shook underneath my feet.
“Where is she!?” I shouted, my eyes darted over all of them, falling on Artemis, the one closest to me, “What the hell are you doing to her!?”
Artemis didn’t even flinch as she looked me dead in the eye, not bothering to answer as Athena spoke for her, “You’re the reason we had to go after her in the first place.”
I whirled around to face her, about to kill her where she stood but before I could bring my sword down Y/N’s screams stopped me. This time she didn’t even call out my name, her cries higher and filled with agony. My hand shook as I gripped my sword tightly, the sense of dread that filled my heart only growing as I continued to helplessly hear her cry out. I knew I could beat them if I just lost myself to my temper and my impulses but if I did that I’d lose control. If I lost control I’d tear this whole forest apart and burn it to ashes, taking her along with them. I bit my bottom lip harshly as I thought of what to do. I could fight them as I was but with hearing her screams every few seconds I don’t know how well I’d fare against them. Each scream, each cry had my heart twisting painfully in my chest, the lump in my throat only growing bigger and bigger.
“Once we’re done with her we’ll finish you off once and for all.” Hermes said as Poseidon continued, “But for now you’ll have to hear the agony she’s going through.”
I inhaled shakily through my nose, my eyes filling with unshed tears for the first time in I don’t know how long, “Why..? Why must you go after everything I care about? Was casting me out of my home not enough for you?!”
Athena raised her head slightly, the look in her eyes filled with contempt, “You, more than anyone, know why we cast you out, Ares.”
“You lot were deceived! I am many things but I would never do that to Hephaestus!” I shouted, already sick and tired of having to defend myself, “You’ve already cast me out so why are you doing all of this?! Why go after her?! She’s innocent in all of this!”
They all just stared at me, emotionless, probably enjoying the look of desperation on my face. I reached out and grabbed Poseidon’s arm, my fingers digging into his skin.
“Please, I’m begging you, stop this,” I begged, my voice breaking as another one of her cries pierced the air.
“You should’ve never given her your mark if you wanted to keep her out of all this.” Poseidon said, his voice void of emotion, “You know exactly how your humans get once their power is unlocked, they’re more troublesome than you are.”
“But she hasn’t even done anything yet! Is that not enough to let her live!? She’s carried my mark with her since she was born, twenty-two years have gone by and she has not once raised a weapon against another! There’s a possibility she may never even unlock that power!” I yelled, my breath catching in my throat as I looked over them, “It doesn’t matter what I say to you does it? You’re going to kill her regardless of how I plead for her to be spared…” I trailed off as I finally realized nothing I said would get them to stop.
“Yeosang! Help me! Please!!”
-
I gasped as I sat up, jolted awake by the nightmare I was stuck in. I was panting heavily, the nightmare still so vivid in my mind. I curled in on myself, clawing at my heart, the organ beating painfully in my chest. The sense of dread had failed to leave me even as I woke up, getting the feeling that this was some kind of premonition. Just the thought sent my heart racing as it throbbed in my chest. As I tried to calm myself I gripped the hilt of my sword tightly, only one thing on my mind as an intense fire burned in my eyes.
……
I smiled softly as the wind carried her laugh over to me, catching a glimpse of the joyful look on her face. But the smile soon left my lips as I caught sight of him, a frown now adorning my face. I’ve been shadowing Y/N for a little over a month now and in that time I’ve seen just how close she is with Apollo. I was sure I threatened him to keep away from her, I guess I’ll just have to teach him what happens when you don’t heed my words. I clenched my hands into tight fists, taking a step towards the two of them but stopped at the voice that called out to me from my right.
“I don’t think that’s very wise, brother.”
I ground my teeth at the sound of her voice, turning slowly to face her, “Athena...you’ve got guts showing your face around me. To what do I owe the pleasure?”
I was trying to stay calm, afraid that if I lost my temper I’d end up destroying everything within miles of where I stood. If I did that then Y/N would get hurt, and that’s the last thing I wanted. So, for her sake, I was holding off on ramming my sword through Athena’s heart. But the condescending look she wore on her face was hard to ignore. I dug my nails into my palm, drawing blood as I forced myself to endure it.
“I have something of importance to talk to you about.” She said, her lips quirking up into a smirk.
“Tell me why you’re here or leave. I have no time for your games.” I snapped, waiting for her to state her business but she kept quiet. I scoffed, glaring at her for a moment longer before turning my back on her.
“It has something to do with that human girl you seem to be fond of.” She called out, the teasing tone in her voice clear as day.
I tensed at her words but kept my back to her, “What about her?”
A moment of silence fell over us, the air surrounding us so tense it was almost suffocating, “I hear you’ve claimed her. If she carries your mark then you know better than anyone what that means. She’s an Athenian so I-”
I couldn’t control myself anymore. I turned on my heel and reached out, grabbing her neck with my hand, “You what?” I seethed, bringing her in closer so our faces were inches apart, my hand squeezing her throat tightly but not tight enough she couldn’t get a word out.
“I have...authority...over her…” She choked out, digging her nails into my wrist to get my to let go but I only squeezed harder.
“Let’s get something straight here, little sister. You can have authority over all the Athenians you like, hell you can have it over everyone else in the world but you have absolutely no authority over Y/N. She is mine and mine alone,” I growled, throwing her to the ground as I stood over her, “You lot have taken all my humans from me, all of them! I will not allow you to take another. I’ll kill you before you even get the chance.”
She scoffed, pushing herself up off the ground, sitting up and staring at me with contempt, “I’ve fought you and won before, I’ll do it again.”
I chuckled darkly as I crouched down in front of her, reaching forward to roughly grab her chin with my thumb and index finger, “Just try it. I can guarantee you won’t win a second time. You’ve all taken everything good I’ve ever had, my home, my people, everything. I will no longer allow you to do as you please. Stay away from her if you know what’s good for you. I will not hesitate to cut you down where you stand. If you do not heed my warning then prepare yourself for a battle you won’t come out of alive, not even your wit will be able to save you,” I spat out, throwing her head back roughly.
I rose to my full height, staring down at her for a moment before turning my back on her. It took everything in me not to kill her in that instant by I restrained myself. For all the hate I had for her and the rest of my siblings there was still a part of me that wished to protect them from all harm, even though I knew those feelings weren’t reciprocated. And knowing that, hurt more than anything but I’ve learned to live with it all these years. But I will not let them get away with threatening Y/N, they can do what they like with me but she is off limits, not even I can touch her.
-Y/N’s P.O.V-
“Wooyoung can you bring in the apples from the back!?” I called out, barely sparing a glance over my shoulder as I placed the last orange where it belonged.
I placed the crate underneath the table, leaving it there for later. As I straightened back out I felt eyes on me. I turned on my heel, seeing the man from the cave standing in the doorway. It had been a month since I last saw him but nothing about him had changed. Actually, now that the sun is out I got to see his face better. I thought he was handsome at night with his hair framing his face due to the rain but I couldn’t even see a fraction of his handsomeness in the rain. With the sun out without a cloud in the sky his skin seemed to glow, his hair perfectly styled out of his face and his eyes, they shined brightly, holding me captive.
“Yeosang…” I murmured without thinking.
He grinned the moment his name fell from my lips, a blush coating my cheeks at the look that crossed his eyes. I quickly looked away, feeling like I was being sucked into those beautiful eyes of his. He chuckled, the sound deep and resonated in my ears.
“I’m glad to see that you remember my name.” He said with a grin still on his face, his tone light as he continued, “I was worried you had forgotten about me already.”
“How could I forget someone like you?” I asked, again speaking without thinking.
When I realized what I said I cleared my throat, glancing at him for a moment only to see the grin on his face widened, his eyes shining brighter than before. Ah, why did I say that? Why am I just saying everything that comes to mind without thinking it over?! What the hell is wrong with me today?!
He chuckled once more, the sound lighter than before, a fondness in his voice as he spoke, “Well I’m glad I made such a strong impression,” His smile softened before it disappeared and a frown took its place, “Though I’m sure it wasn’t a very good impression. I’m sorry about how cryptic I was that night, it wasn’t my intention to frighten you. I also apologize for being so rude to you…”
He averted his eyes as he spoke, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. Just the sight had my heart racing. What?! Why are you going out of control?! Stop that!, I shouted to myself, scolding my heart for being so affected by these minuscule actions of his. I shook my head, trying to clear it of the thoughts that wanted to invade my mind, thoughts of him.
“Uh...well…”I trailed off, not knowing what to say, “Apology accepted… I guess…?”
He laughed, the sound different from when he chuckled lightly, dare I say this laugh of his sounded even better than the first, “Ah, you’re a lot more entertaining than I thought…” He murmured under his breath.
“Huh?”
He shook his head, the smile on his face seeming to be permanent. He opened his mouth to say more but before he could another voice interjected, “Y/N! Where do you want these?”
I quickly whipped around to see Wooyoung walking over to me with that crate of apples I had asked him to grab, “Where they always go.”
He didn’t even spare me a glance as he glared at Yeosang, the hold he had on the crate tightening. I raised a brow, confused over what had gotten into him. As I went to question him about it Yeosang spoke up.
“So, do you—do you think you can help me out with a little shopping?” He asked, a bit hesitant to voice his question.
I stared at him in shock, his words catching me off guard. It was such a simple request, one I’ve done for many customers in the past. So why did I find it so shocking coming from him? He must’ve mistaken the shock in my eyes for something else as he began apologizing.
“Ah, I’m sorry. I’m sure you’re busy-“
“No!” I said, my voice higher than normal, “No...it’s—it’s okay. I’d love to help.”
The grin he wore earlier reappeared on his face as he followed after me, deeper into the shop.
-Yeosang’s P. O. V-
I paused for a moment as we walked by Apollo. I gave him a quick glance to see his head was slightly bowed as he gripped an apple tightly in his hands. I smirked at the sight of his obvious anger, loving the way his whole body trembled with the rage he felt within.
“You did well, brother,” I said in a low voice, placing my hand on his shoulder, “I hope you continue to stay out of my way. If you do so you have my word there will be no problems between the two of us but if you slip up even once…” I trailed off, placing my hand on his shoulder and squeezed roughly, drawing a hiss of pain from his lips, “Not only will I pay you back for the betrayal you put me through on Olympus but for touching what is so rightfully mine. I won’t kill you, at first. I’ll put you through so much unimaginable pain that you’ll be begging me to kill you. But that’d be showing you too much mercy and as you know...I’m not the merciful type.”

By popular demand, what if Orion was well written part 2/??
Previous Next Bonus
Orion was settling into a more comfortable position in his chair, seemingly oblivious to Holly’s nervous energy across from him. Argon, somewhat desperate to talk to Artemis after he’d missed over a month of sessions in favor of letting Orion handle them, had agreed to step out at the young man’s request. The doctor decided that leaving him alone for this exercise was a bad idea, though, so Holly was called in to babysit.
“I don’t think I’m qualified to do this,” she said.
“You’ll be fine, love,” Orion said with what he hoped was reassuring confidence. “Though you know I adore being around you, your presence is mostly a formality.” As he spoke, he placed his hands facedown on his legs, allowed his limbs to relax into the gel-supported cushioning, and let his eyes fall closed. “Expect to be bored.”
“If you say so,” she said. As Orion’s motions stilled, Holly spoke up again. “How long do you think it will take?”
“Difficult to say. If Artemis is agreeable, only a couple minutes.” He opened one eye and grinned. “Though Artemis being agreeable is not something I would place money on if you’re not in the habit of losing.”
Holly grinned as well and allowed Orion to begin his meditation. Despite herself, she leaned forward curiously. Though she had of course induced a few switches herself, they were all violent and came after long periods of electroshock-induced unconsciousness. She had never seen them do a voluntary switch.
Orion spent a few minutes focusing on his breathing and observing his body in physical space. Artemis had taken up mediation and mindfulness as a hobby years ago, and that knowledge had sunk into Orion’s consciousness, as well. Eventually, the world around him slipped away and the light of Artemis’ mind office became visible in the distance. At this realization, the image of legs formed beneath him, and he walked towards it. By the time he arrived at the office, Orion was fully formed in the mind space.
“Artemis, can I come in?” he asked, though it was unnecessary. The mind is a funny thing; though Orion as the conscious alter had to focus on the arrival into the office, to Artemis, he simply appeared already inside. Orion was nothing but a gentleman, though, and he always asked for an invitation into what he considered Artemis’ space.
“Of course,” Artemis answered. His desk had changed since Orion had last visited; there were stacks of paper and what appeared to be a rudimentary circuit board and other electrical materials arranged atop it. Of course, rudimentary was relative, and the board on the desk was actually quite advanced on an objective level, but Orion knew that it was practically a child’s toy to Artemis.
“What’s that?” Orion asked, genuinely curious. He had never seen anything like it in the mind office.
“I’ve been doing experiments,” Artemis replied. He stepped aside and allowed Orion to examine the device. “It’s quite a simple circuit board, but I have perfect knowledge of its construction and properties.” He reached over and pressed a button on the board, and the device buzzed to life. “It took quite a bit of mental effort and focus, but I have actually created a working piece of electronic equipment in my own mind.”
“Astounding,” Orion said, awestruck. It was incomprehensibly impressive. “A perfect recreation of a physical object.”
“I knew you’d have a proper appreciation within the mind space,” Artemis said. While together like this, the edges of their personalities started to blur and mix. They were still separate, but perhaps not as distinct as when one of them was fronting. Some of Artemis’ intelligence and scientific awareness bled over.
Orion nodded, though something about the discovery bothered him. “But why?” he asked, gingerly placing the device back onto the desk.
“I have no intention of spending the rest of my life simply watching you pilot my body,” he said. “So I came up with something to do. I plan to experiment with oil paints next, then move on to something more complicated. My goal is to be able to invent from within here and run accurate tests on new discoveries.” He sounded genuinely excited, his willingness to show emotion enhanced by Orion’s presence.
Orion wasn’t sure how to react. A certain detail Artemis had mentioned was making it hard for him to get as excited as his alter. “That is…very impressive, Artemis,” he said. He hesitated, trying to phrase his concern delicately, then decided not to beat around the bush. “Do you really expect to spend your whole life in here?”
Artemis, who had started to fiddle with the circuit board, paused. “Well, I suppose not,” he said noncommittally.
Orion stepped around him, partially blocking his view of the desk. “You can’t stay in here forever, Artemis.”
Artemis stepped back, away from Orion. “And why not? Who are you to dictate my life?”
“It’s my life, too,” he said, taking a half step closer to Artemis, who moved away the same amount. “And there are people out there waiting for you.”
“People whom I will push away once I lose myself to the disease.” There was a rising anger in Artemis. Orion could feel it.
“People who will stand by your side while you recover,” he countered. This wasn’t how he wanted the conversation to go.
“When I’m outside, I am not the person they know. I cannot control my own thoughts.”
“They know that, and they love you.”
“And what do you know of that?” It was Artemis’ turn to move forward and Orion’s to retreat. “They tolerate you, at best, and you know that.”
“You’re wrong, Artemis.”
Artemis continued his approach, forcing Orion towards the view wall inch by inch. “Am I? You are delusional; the world to you is a storybook.”
“That’s not fair, I’ve been getting better—“
“You have no respect for Holly’s personal boundaries. She is disgusted by you.”
“That’s not true. I’m learning, and she—“
Artemis stopped as Orion’s back was about to touch the gel of the wall. “And worst of all, you are trying to replace me, and they know that.”
Orion planted his feet and met his alter in the eye. “I’m not trying to replace you. You’re stressed, and your paranoia has infected your haven. Allow yourself to calm down, and you will see you are thinking illogically.”
Artemis also planted his feet. “Get out of my head,” he said, and pushed Orion into the view wall.
Artemis, ever unathletic, had telegraphed his action, so Orion wasn’t surprised when he was shoved, but he allowed it to happen anyway. He knew that Artemis was too agitated to be reasoned with at the moment, a once rare, nearly impossible occurrence that was happening more and more frequently as Artemis continued to lock himself inside his mind. Orion thought perhaps that allowing Artemis to shove him might offer some cathartic relief, at the very least.
The gel fizzled on his skin, though the golden fours that made the substance buzz with electricity ignored him. Because he was allowing himself to resurface, the wall gave him almost no resistance.
In the real world, his body jolted in the chair. Holly rushed to support him immediately, placing a hand on his shoulder to help keep him upright.
“Artemis? Are you alright?”
“I am fine, princess, though the fair prince remains trapped within his accursed tower.” Ah, there was the fairy tale, right on schedule. The stress was exacerbating his delusions. “I fear a witch has hexed him. Perhaps we can brew a potion to negate the enchantment.”
Holly frowned but didn’t contradict him. “I take it Artemis wasn’t feeling agreeable?”
Orion rubbed his eyes with the heel of his hand. “No. He pushed me out. Literally.” He was exhausted from the ordeal. Entering the mind space with Artemis was not itself a tiring activity, but the mental energy he expended in their fight, as well as the rather ungraceful exit, had drained him.
“What happened?” she asked, shifting from sitting on her heels to kneeling beside his chair.
“He’s inventing,” Orion said. “He built a circuit board.”
“Hunkering down,” Holly realized. “He’s in it for the long haul.”
“Indeed. He got angry at me. He yelled at me, forced me out. As I told the good Doctor, he’s scared. He fears you’ll reject him, princess.”
Holly looked almost offended. “I wouldn’t dare,” she said.
Orion smiled sadly. “I know. I told him as much, but he was beyond reason.” Holly opened her mouth to question, clearly confused by the very notion, but Orion explained before she could ask. “Within the mind space, our characteristics…mix, a bit. Though I am made from that which he had repressed, when the two parts are put together, we begin to combine. There is no risk,” he added quickly, seeing concern flash across her features. “Just a bit of blurring at the edges.”
Holly looked around the room, giving her eyes something to do while she processed all of this. “If asking nicely won’t work, we’ll have to come up with something more aggressive,” she decided. “He can’t just stay in there forever.”
Orion nodded. “We will save him from the dragons that plague him.” He tried to shift his posture to evoke the stance of a knight, but he only held it for a moment before the exhaustion hit him again and he tilted forward into Holly, who had moved to catch him before he even realized he was falling. The chair was comfortable, but he had no desire to sleep in it. “Though perhaps we should return to the castle first. I would appreciate some time to recover before we begin our quest.” Holly helped him stand, and after an uncertain moment, Orion gained his balance.
><
In the hall, Argon was pacing, waiting for the pair to finish. He turned excitedly when the door finally opened.
“Artemis? Holly? How did it go?” he asked, rocking back and forth on his heels.
“Orion is exhausted,” Holly said bitterly. She wanted Artemis to spend some time outside his own head as much as the next person, but Argon’s blatant disregard for Orion was insulting. “Session’s ending early.” Without waiting for approval, she led Orion down the hall.
Argon scurried after them. “But there’s still nearly half an hour left!” he cried.
“Session’s over, doc,” Holly called over her shoulder. Even with an exhausted Mud Boy in tow, they were able to easily outpace the squat doctor.
Butler was waiting for them outside the clinic. There was nowhere inside for him to comfortably wait, though Foaly had said something about an oversized chair being put on order. He glanced at the door on habit as it opened, checking for security, but he did a double-take when he realized Holly and his charge leaving the building half an hour ahead of schedule.
“Is everything alright?” he asked as the pair approached.
“Argon is letting him go early, today,” Holly said in a tone that told Butler it was likely not Dr. Argon’s decision.
“And why is that?” he asked casually, falling into step with them as they headed towards the nearest shuttle station. If Holly had forced Argon to end the session, Butler was willing to trust it was for a good reason.
“Because Artemis is stubborn as a hungry troll,” she answered.
“He had no interest in making an appearance,” Orion added, confirming his identity for Butler.
Butler had, of course, known about the plan for today’s session, and he’d been quietly hoping Artemis would finally come back to them. Artemis and his alter looked a lot alike when tired, and Butler hadn’t been certain who was fronting. He must have let some of his disappointment show based on the way Orion’s features tightened, though the young man didn’t comment. Butler instantly felt guilty, though he also said nothing. He hadn’t meant to hurt Orion, but Artemis was still his priority.
“I see,” was all the man offered.
The trek to the shuttle station was uneventful, though the group got more stares than usual. The regular commuters through this part of Haven had gotten used to seeing the massive Mud Man in this time of day, but the half hour difference was enough to mix up the crowd.
The shuttle ride was similarly uneventful; the one shuttle large enough to carry Butler had been co-opted by the LEP and served as private transport for the humans 3 days a week, so there was no need to wait for a ride or concern themselves with citizens being in their way. Orion dozed lightly during the ride, his head against Butler’s arm. He looked peaceful. As peaceful as Artemis did in his sleep, Butler noted.
Orion roused himself as the shuttle landed, though he fell asleep on Holly’s shoulder once they were in the Bentley. She nudged him awake once they arrived at the Manor.
“That really took a lot out of you,” she said as he unfolded himself from the car.
“More than expected,” he said. “I think I am sad,” he added, “for sadness is a tiring emotion.”
“What’s making you sad?” Holly asked. She had heard enough about his therapy sessions to pick up on some things. He still struggled with identifying his emotions at times, and encouraging him to explore what he was feeling helped with that.
“Artemis.” He held his hand out in front of him and turned it over and back, studying the surface and the way his fingers moved. “He is in anguish.”
Holly nodded. “I’m sad about that, too. And frustrated.” Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, and she forced herself to uncurl them.
Orion nodded. “You can’t punch your way through this.”
“As much as I want to,” she agreed.
The sessions with Argon were at the beginning of the day in Haven, but fairies being nocturnal creatures meant that it was dark above ground when they were done. There were footlights along the paths on the estate, but to minimize light pollution, they were on specialized motion sensors that were fine-tuned enough to differentiate between wild animals and humans (and fairies, of course). As such, the world around them was a shroud of gloom for a few seconds until the lights clicked on, giving everything a unique, almost unsettling glow from below. On hard, tiresome days like today, the unnatural underside lighting seemed mystical in a way Orion was growing better and better at determining to be part of his delusions. This was something he knew, and at Argon’s suggestion, he used this knowledge to practice grounding techniques after sessions.
Today was no exception. As much as he would love to go straight inside and collapse into bed, practice and consistency were important, so he took a few minutes to breathe deeply and take inventory of his senses and his thoughts. Holly and Butler both waited for him, silently exchanging slightly worried expressions. They knew what he was doing, but his mental health was still a concern, especially after a particularly trying therapy session. And of course, they were always thinking about Artemis. They had both returned their expressions to neutral by the time Orion was done, though, and the trio finally escaped the cool, humid night air so Orion could get some much needed rest.

this literally came up out of nowhere. I was thinking about this YJ fic i read a while ago when Artemis got poisoned then i started thinking about Mikasa's family line and how she has SUPER STRENGTH (don't try to argue with me, just let me believe what i want to believe lol) So i got to thinking and this is what came to be. This totally does not correlate with the plot and i think it may a little all over the place...but let's see how well i did!
The Durability of an Individual
She had never heard of another person with her last name. The last people she knew with the name Ackerman were her parents and her memory of them in her life was pretty short-lived.
Kenny the Ripper. Kenny Ackerman.
Captain Levi. Levi Ackerman.
Ackerman.
What a fucking family tree. She was related to an expert killer and a blunt, emotionless captain. Well, at least there's somewhat of a personality resemblance with Levi.
When Levi had finally brought Kenny into custody, she thought she'd get some answers. But the man was as silent as a dumbbell, refusing to say anything until his hearing. She'd been watching him be interrogated by Levi and Erwin and hoping for a little slip about her family.
Where are they from? Why were they persecuted? Where is everyone else? Anything would suffice her need to know. It had been a good ten minutes before her legs got tired and the fluorescent light started to burn her eyes. She made a beeline for the exit and was met with the afternoon breeze of Ehrmich.
"Hey." She turned to meet the voice and was met with the two boys who were always by her side.
"You okay?" Eren said with a worried expression at her dejected face. Of course, her face remained neutral but with a simple glance, he could always understand what she was feeling.
"Yeah, I just...I finally found my...I don't know what they are and—" Mikasa looked down at the floor she stood, suddenly finding the cracks in the stone pretty interesting. "I want to know more about myself. You know, where I come from, what I am, who my parents were." Her voice cracked at the end.
She felt an arm wrap around her waist and pull her body into the side of his. She heard Armin shuffle to her other side and place a comforting hand on her shoulder. Letting out a heavy sigh, Mikasa laid her head on Eren's shoulder.
She typically refused to think or talk about anything that involved her parents in fear of having the memory of that night replay in her mind. It still haunted her to this day though she wished it didn't. Not just her parent's death but the people she murdered. That was enough trauma to last a century.
Before she basked too long in the presence of her friends, a door opened only to reveal a stone-faced Levi.
"Ackerman." Mikasa quickly turned her head to salute her captain, feeling Armin and Eren do the same on either side of her. Levi waved them off and set his eyes on her. "You can try to get answers out of the bastard but I guarantee he won't budge. Good luck." Levi stepped aside to allow Mikasa to enter.
Hesitating, Mikasa strode through the door, hearing her friends shuffle in behind her. Making a left on the second door of the hallway she stood before the man who was her supposed "family". Her breath hitched when she saw him bloodied and bruised. Not that she had expected anything less, this has become the Scout's forte now.
Kenny lifted his head slowly, taking in the sight in front of him. He gave a wide, toothy smile and let out what seemed to be a laugh. "Really, kid? You gave up so you sent in the girl? I know I didn't raise a quitter."
Mikasa almost flinched when he yelled the last part. "I…" Mikasa pushed her shoulders back farther than they already were and made her face colder than it was before, "You're a part of the Ackerman clan. Tell me more about them."
"Heh. Not a lot I can tell you, kid. I don't know much more than you." Kenny spoke with a menacing tone, keeping his eyes firmly on her causing her to shuffle slightly on the balls of her feet.
"You don't know anything? What about where we're from? How we got scattered? What makes us able to do the things we do?" Mikasa almost sounded desperate. "Who we were? Just give me that much."
"Sorry. Beats me." Kenny smiled condescendingly and proceeded to look Mikasa up and down escalating her discomfort. "But...you do look familiar."
Mikasa's eyes narrowed at the outward thought. She'd never met him until now so what the hell could he possibly mean by that statement.
"Ah. I get it now. You're Linda and Jamun's daughter."
Mikasa tensed immediately. Her whole body stiffened and her eyes widened, the only indications that his words surprised her. "How did you—"
"You were the girls they were after. You know I dabbled in human trafficking myself, right Levi?" He nodded his head towards the expressionless man leaning against the wall next to the door. "A real doozy business. Quit after about 3 months. But for a short while, I became the commander. You know; calling all the shots, deciding who to kill and who to take."
Mikasa felt her fists clench and unclench repeatedly, trying to figure out where he was going with this whole spiel.
"I remember seeing the name 'Ackerman' on the list and thinking 'Huh, what a small world'. Honestly, I just wanted to test if these were true Ackerman's, you know? Strength and all. Of course my men, dumbasses I'll tell you, killed one too many. I asked the system the next morning why they gave me a group of incompetent shitheads and—"
"What are you saying?" Mikasa demanded, voice shaking.
Kenny seemed a little irritated at the interruption and looked at Mikasa through one not swollen eye like she asked the dumbest question ever. "My, my. You got one almost as dumb as you, Levi." Kenny smiled a menacing smile and gave Mikasa a look that sent chills down her spine. "I sent out the order to kill your parents."
Her feet went cold. Her heart started to beat hard against her ribcage that she thought it might bust out. There was a faint calling of her name from the hallway but she couldn't quite place the voice. She stood frozen in front of "The Ripper", his smile never wavering. Her nails dug into the palms of her hand as she tried to keep her composure but even she could feel her body trembling.
"Well, parent. Singular. Like I said those men were stupid as he—" Kenny didn't even get the full sentence out before a fist made contact with his face in record time and strength. A satisfying crunch filled the silence of the room. As soon as the first hit happened it didn't stop.
Punch after punch rained upon Kenny's body and with his hands tied firmly behind his back he was left defenseless. Usually, Mikasa was the calm one. She was always level headed and never one to fight unless it's needed. But something inside of her snapped. Either it was the careless way Kenny confessed to her parent's murder or the fact that this sick man was her relative; she had no idea. All she knew was that he was in front of her and he was punchable.
"Mikasa." She faintly heard Eren's voice caution her in the background but she didn't stop. The punches became faster and more forceful. She was blinded by rage, she didn't even notice Kenny loosening himself from his bindings.
She felt multiple hands attempt to pull her back but she shrugged them off with a strength none of them could attend to.
"Ackerman!" The commanding voice stopped her in motion, her fist suspended in mid-air. She turned her head to meet Commander Erwin's calm but serious eyes. "Leave."
Her fist throbbed as she slowly lowered her arm. The shaking in her body was less prevalent but still noticeable. Her face was etched in what seemed to be a dangerous scowl as she looked around the room.
She could feel everyone's gaze on her which only made her more uncomfortable. Armin gave her the same worried look he'd give Eren when he went off the rails. The concern that showed in Eren's face was almost alarming but she paid no attention to it.
Sparing one last glance at Kenny, Mikasa turned on her heels to leave the room. But before she could get too far, a strong hand grasped her wrist with an unyielding grip. The hand yanked her forcefully towards the body it was attached to and turned her so that her arm twisted painfully behind her back.
"Ah!" Mikasa let out a cry of pain as she wiggled to release herself but the hand only tightened more around her wrist.
It happened fast. Everyone stood straight in alert and turned their attention to Mikasa in a split second. Eren's eyes scanned the scene and narrowed in a frightening way.
"Now, now. Don't resist. It'll only hurt more. Right, Levi?" Kenny spoke, sadistically.
Mikasa struggled mercilessly against his grasp, almost releasing herself but Kenny simply reevaluated his grip and squeezed harder. Her strength wasn't going to get her out of this.
As for Levi, his eyes turned dark and colder than they already were. He was starting to get tired of Kenny addressing him as if he was still his caretaker. If you could even call him that.
Kenny was always one to have tricks up his sleeve. How had he not seen it sooner?
"Let her go," Eren growled, his eyes never leaving Mikasa.
"Aw, stop being so serious, kid. Learn how to smile." Kenny chuckled in Mikasa's ear. She nearly cringed at his breath.
Mikasa's wiggles became more violent but Kenny kept his hold firm. "She definitely has that Ackerman strength," Kenny muttered as he used one hand to try to keep Mikasa still and the other to reach into the back of his pants and pull out a syringe. The syringe was filled with a clear green liquid from top to bottom.
"Levi, you remember this? 'Only a true Ackerman with immeasurable strength can take this vial'," Kenny looked at the vial then shrugged. "Or whatever bullshit that bishop told me."
Kenny positioned the needle of the syringe inches before the skin of Mikasa's neck. Eren started to charge almost immediately at the older man but Levi pushed him and spoke first.
"What do you want?" Levi all but glowered at his Uncle. Huh. Never thought he'd be saying that.
Kenny's smile grew wider, showing his bloodied teeth. "Easy there, buddy. I just wanna see what the drug does. 'Course I'm not gonna test it out on myself. That would be dumb!" He moved the vial closer to Mikasa's neck. "Nah. Why not try it on someone I don't know."
"Wait!" Eren yelled. Kenny paused his movement. "Why does it have to be her? Can't you find someone else?"
"Sorry, but it has to be Ackerman blood that takes this thing, and unfortunately, no one else but me and my stupid nephew have it in this room. It's nothing personal. Just taking advantage of the opportunity I'm given...just like I taught you, Levi."
With that, Kenny plunged the syringe into Mikasa's neck. She jutted at the sudden insertion and scrunched her face in pain as she felt the liquid be injected into her body.
Loud noises of protest filled the room. Kenny had been ripped from behind her and shoved to the ground but the damage had already been done. He just laid there with a satisfied smile as guards began to point guns at his beaten body.
It was excruciating. The substance entered her and left a fiery, hot path as it passed through the blood in her body. Her knees buckled to the floor, suddenly feeling that her body was too heavy to hold up. The veins within her boiled beneath her skin and her senses became overwhelmed.
She suddenly became aware of every scent, every sound, and everything around her. Her heart thumped loudly in her ears. She didn't even notice how her bruised hands reached up to cover her ears and how a guttural scream ripped from her throat. Her eyes were scrunched shut in order to block out the dim light that illuminated the room, even with how dim it was it still blinded her. She heard her name get called repeatedly from the side of her as her back hunched over but it sounded so distant.
Her eyes flung wide open as she gasped for air that was all around but couldn't seem to be inhaled by her. Wavering on her knees, she slumped to the ground. Her eyes grew too heavy to keep open and the world spun around her.
Eren's face popped into her line of sight, the panic evident on his face. She could see his mouth moving but she didn't hear a thing. Suddenly too exhausted to keep up, Mikasa's eyes shut once again, finally succumbing to the darkness that enveloped her vision.
this was really fun to write! I'm not used to adding or rewriting plots and details like this tho so i'm not sure if it's good but i like it. hopefully you guys did too!
