643.
Describe your hometown. Whatâs it like there? I grew up in a really white, safe middle-class town. I found it boring growing up but in hindsight it was a really nice place to live. It was very pretty, had lots of independent shops and restaurants as well as lots of green space etc.
What did you do yesterday evening? Not very much. I worked until 2pm, came home, showered, had lunch and then just spent the rest of the evening messing about online and watching random stuff on TV or TikTok.
Are you comfortable with leaving the house without any makeup on? I do it everyday. I pretty much never wear make-up anymore.
Do you have any expensive hobbies? I used to ride but my instructor stopped teaching in April and I haven't been able to find anyone else since.
What length do you like to keep your nails at? Short, just because I work with animals and anything else is impractical and painful lol.
Have you ever felt physical pain in a dream? Yes, but not very often.
What is the oldest online account that you still use? I have no idea, probably my Facebook.
Have you ever had Christmas carolers come to your house and sing for you? Yeah, but not for a long time now.
Do you know anyone whose family has lived in the same house forâŚ3+ generations? No.
What was the last video game you beat? I don't remember, honestly. I finished BeatStar I guess, unless you count all the paid extras that I refuse to buy.
Whatâs your favorite Studio Ghibli film? I've never seen any of them.
What did you learn from your last failed relationship? Listen to your gut.
What country does your favorite band hail from? England.
Whatâs something on your to-do list that never actually gets done? Painting the bathroom.
Have you ever been really passionate about something but then lost interest? If so, what was it? Yeah, reading. I just donât really do any of it anymore. <--- same.
Do you sleep with the TV or the radio on? No.
Whatâs the worst thing about being male/female (whichever you are)? Periods.
What movie has the best special effects? I don't really care about stuff like that, honestly.
How many work hours per week is too much for you? I rarely ever work more than 30 hours a week. Life is too short to spend it working, honestly. I do what I need to do to pay the bills and have a bit left for spends and saving.
What habit is essential to your daily life? Cuddling my animals, for sure.
What is your favorite documentary? Anything by David Attenborough.
When did you last have a vision test? Way too long ago. I'm way overdue an eye test.
What do you typically eat for breakfast? Coffee, a glass of juice and two slices of toast.
What are three things you need to do tomorrow? Work, pack and drive to parents' house.

The fact you can't copy the questions except one by one on mobile is dumb. I had to type everything manually. But anyways...
1. Are you named after anyone?
No, I named myself.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Yesterday. It's been pretty hard lately.
3. Do you have kids?
No.
4. What sports have you played?
Nothing professionally or organized really (unless you count playoffs for lifeskills kids), but I like playing soccer and badminton.
5. Do you use sarcasm?
Rarely. Usually only when I think someone I don't know is being an idiot and I talk smack later (ie someone at the grocery store and I mock them once I get to my car). I'm bad at reading sarcasm from others unless the other party's voice is practically dripping with it though.
6. What's the first thing you notice about people?
Whether or not they're autistic. (I have a superpower. I can look at people and determine whether or not they've got The 'Tism. /lh)
7. What's your eye color?
Blue-gray, but I'm told they can be hazel in certain lighting. I also have partial heterochromia.
8. Scary movie or happy ending?
Happy ending. I rarely watch movies I haven't already seen, because I like the safety that comes with knowing what's about to happen.
9. Any talents?
I can draw and consider myself exceptionally literate, but that's it really.
10. Where were you born?
Northern midwest United States.
11. What are your hobbies?
Reading, writing, drawing, roleplaying, playing video games, crocheting, farming/ranching, and watching nature and science documentaries.
12. Do you have pets?
*sweats* đł Um. Yes. I have a dog and...six cats. And a fish. Also some livestock. Uhh. Yeah. I almost definitely have that Toxoplasma Gondii lol. I plan to get lots more livestock in the future as well (I used to have way more, once upon a time).
13. How tall are you?
5'6 on a good day, 5'5 on a bad (my spine is actually a bit longer on days where I have less pain.)
14. Favorite subject in school?
English/Literature. Especially creative writing. German was a close second. But I loved having a class where I didn't have to learn anything and I could basically just write fanfiction for an hour and a half lol.
15. Dream job?
Being a field journalist for Natural Geographic. Sir David Attenborough is my hero and I would love to shake his hand someday before he dies. I grew up watching documentaries and knew from a young age that the world was changing. I wanted to directly support preventing that future, and see things with my own eyes that many never have or will. My disabilities would make doing all of that pretty difficult though.
I don't have nearly enough mutuals but I like doing stuff like this so maybe some of mine will enjoy it too. No pressure though.

15 Questions 15 Mutuals
The rules are: Answer the 15 questions and tag 15 of your mutuals.

Are you named after anyone?

2. When was the last time you cried?
like last week after the orthodontist lmao
3. Do you have kids?
i have plants
4. What sports do you play/have played?
i did gymnastics and dance now i do nothing~
5. Do you use sarcasm?
it's somewhat of a coping mechanism
6. What's the first thing you notice about people?
how they dress/their hair
7. What's your eye color?
hell if i know
8. Scary movies or Happy endings

Thankyuo so much for wishing me good luck in my zoology degree and for once someone didn't ask if i wanted to be a zookeeper!! cause some people are just urgh but I actually haven't passed maths I'm from the UK and studying in the UK but doing a science degre and I cannot do basic division and yet final year XD the looks i get from lecturers, well i want to go more into animal cognition and learning but i took functional morphology which fae tales wise makes me think of macro and micro evolutio
n and how bones work and devlope and evolve and like our ancestors lucy and ardi but i find that module so hard it's remembering everything animal locomotion, mastication flight genes etc so tricky, I do animal learning and cognition which i love and parrots and corvids are so so smart it's so cool , current topics of zoology that's like planaria, illegal wildlife trade lecturers special areas of research so venoms etc work based learning i did a placement at my uni and animal social systems       Â
*
Animal cognition and learning sounds really awesome, and anything to do with animal behaviour/ethology and just ahhhhh. *sighs happily* And I bet thereâs way more options these days then when I looked into it as a teenager in backwards Western Australia.
Re: the maths, Iâm glad that youâre still able to do the degree! I was always told that without basic maths (and I have dyscalculia) Iâd not be able to do it, which...may not be true, honestly, given that a lot has changed in 20 years. But yeah like, as a result Iâm just an armchair enthusiast in the zoological sciences (some more than others). I always thought about going into taxonomy, and for a while there I seriously considered doing a natural history illustration fine arts degree, except none are offered in Western Australia and Iâd have to move state. So you know, here I am, writing the things. :D
But itâs so awesome that you think about the fae tales stuff from your perspective thatâs informed by so much biological knowledge. I can manage bits and pieces, but I imagine you can fill in so many mental gaps for yourself and itâs just awesome.
#asks and answers#personal#fae tales love#zoology was actually my first stream choice#for university#from memory#or psychology#it was one or the other#i don't really remember now since i didn't get into either#in the meantime i just read what i can and where i can#and watch way too many david attenborough documentaries lol#administrator Gwyn wants this in the queue#Anonymous

cooking at 3am /// Osamu x f!Reader
Request: Imagine cooking together with Osamu at 3am because neither of you could sleep (or because âSamu got the midnight munchies lol). You donât have anything specific in mind; youâre just playing around and feeding each other little bits of what you make.
A/N: bruh you said munchies and my mind said [[ h i g h o s a m u ]] sorry this went in a kinda different direction? but still fun 3am cooking project vibes :P
Tag/warnings: fluff, light drug use (weed), you and Atsumu are lowkey Brosâ˘ď¸, Osamu's kinda baby đ¤§
Osamuâs not good at smoking.
He doesnât really know how to inhaleâyou know, hold it in his lungs so it can soak in or whateverâand when he does, he coughs. Except he tries to repress the coughs. Even if he wants to hide it, heâs always close enough to you that you can feel his chest moving from trying not to cough when he takes a hit.
And also, like every baby smoker, he canât really tell when itâs kicking in until heâs off the deep end.
âCan you feel it yet?â
âNo.â
You shoot Osamu a glance where heâs sitting on the ground in front of the couch, watching a nature documentary on Atsumuâs TV with a glazed-over look on his face. âYou sure? Your eyes are super red.â
âI canât feel it. Give itââ He holds out his hand and honestly youâre pretty sure heâs had plenty, but itâs Atsumuâs vape so who cares. You hand it over and Osamu holds it up to his mouth and sucks, eyes fluttering closed as the light on the side of the Pax glows yellow.
God, he looks hot when he does that. Something about a hot guy smoking, yeah? Actually, no. Something about your hot boyfriend smoking.
Except 'Samu holds his breath a second too long and you can see the urge to cough hit him⌠Wait for it, you think to yourself, and a second later he hacks and wheezes the vapor out in a wispy cloud that reflects silver against the semi-dark. You coo in sympathy and pat his back. âWant some water?â
Osamu shakes his head, hand over his mouth to stop the coughing. On the tv, David Attenborough talks about penguin courtship rituals and Atsumu (whoâs been draped on the couch next to you for the past few hours) gives a light little sigh in his sleep. You check the time. 3am. Bedtime. Too bad you and 'Samu are both too high to drive homeâŚwhoops. Guess youâre spending the night at Atsumuâs place.
Osamu rubs his bloodshot eyes like theyâre itchy, which they probably are. âHey, can weâ uhh⌠Do we have pancakes.â
âPancakes, babe? You mean the ones you made for breakfast?â
âYeah, thereâs leftoversâŚI made you extra and you didnât want them.â He twists around and gives you an incredibly dirty look, like this is something you did on purpose to hurt his feelings. âIf you donât want them Iâm going to eat them.â
âWait, 'Samuââ But Osamu's already getting up off the floor to wander over to the next room. You debate pausing the showâitâs a really good sceneâbut you leave it going for Atsumu's sake because youâre pretty sure the narration is the only thing keeping him asleep. Heâs kinda drooling on your shoulder and you have to push him off to go follow your boyfriend to the kitchen.
âWhat is all this stuff? UghâŚâ Osamu's pawing through the fridge. Thereâs a lot of crinkling, plastic soundsâyou catch a glimpse inside and all of the shelves are stacked up with plastic bags and styrofoam containers.
You yawn and hop up to sit on the kitchen island. âTakeout? I donât think he cooks.â Atsumu's going to get a lecture tomorrow for keeping 2-week-old Indian food in his fridge. God knows you heard it way too many times before you and Osamu moved in together. You donât envy 'Tsumu.
Osamu sits down in front of the fridge, fumbles with a drawer, and pulls out a bag of moldy grapes. âGrossâŚwho lives like thisâŚâ
You snicker into your hand.
âI canât find the pancakes.â 'Samu's pulling the plastic drawers all the way out now, setting them down on the floor as he inspects the contents of the fridge.
âTheyâre not here.â
âYou ate them?â
âNo, Iâ Hey, put those back in,â you tell him helplessly as he shuts the door of the fridge, ignoring all the leftover food he took out. Yeah, half of it was probably off anyway, but Atsumu's gonna be pissed if he wakes up and thereâs takeout going bad all over his kitchen floor.
âYou threw away my pancakes?â Now the look on Osamu's face is utter betrayal. He stands up off the floor and glares sulkily at you. âI made those for youâŚâ
âI didnât throw them away, theyâreââ You hold back a laugh and wish you had your phone on you (where did it go?) so you could take a picture. Heâs so cute when he smokes. ââtheyâre at home.â
âAt home?â
âYep, at home. The place where you and me live, remember?â
âOh.â Osamu pauses, reaches out absently to grab the edge of your sleeve. Youâre wearing one of his hoodies. âWeâre not at home?â
âNope. Weâre at Atsumu's place,â you tell him through a giggle.
He plays with your sleeve, contemplating. âWhy?â
âBecause weâre out of weed and he said heâd smoke us out. And we like hanging out with him.â
âOh. We do?â
âYes.â
ââŚâKay.â It takes Osamu a second to accept this, but then he nods seriously. â(Y/N), I'm hungry.â
âI know. What do you want to eat? You could probably have any of that stuff, I donât think heâll miss it.â
'Samu thinks about it for a moment, scanning the array of takeout containers spread out across the kitchen floor. âI want pancakes.â
âThe pancakes are at home, remember?â
âYeahâŚâ Osamu flips over his grip on your sleeve and traces his thumb down the lines in your palm. âI could make some?â
More pancakes? âI donât think 'Tsumu has eggs, babe. Or flour. OrâŚbaking soda?â Youâre not really sure what ingredients go into pancakes. Whatever cooking skills you possessed pre-Osamu have deteriorated significantly since you moved in together and he took over any and all food preparation for your household.
He pouts at this, and his hair is a little messed up, and heâs so pretty that you canât stand how much you like him in that second. Mine mine mine, something in the back of your brain says. Heâs mine.
You reach up and Osamu obediently ducks his head down so you can smooth his hair back into place and fix the bits that are flipping over his part. âIs there anything else you want to eat?â
âOnigiri.â
âOhâŚâ Well, at least Atsumu probably has rice. âSure. Ok. Thatâs your specialty.â
âI want ya to make it for me.â
âWhat?â You frown and pull your hand out of his. âYou know my cooking sucks.â
âNo it doesnât. (Y/N)âs foodâs the best.â
âYou own an onigiri shop, come onââ
âPlease?â
One of his bangs falls back in his eyes and without thinking you reach up to put it in place. âOkay, fine. But you canât complain about it if itâs not good.â
He smiles and you want to blush. âYes! I promise.â
So you do it for him. Even though youâre high too. You measure some rice and water into the rice cooker (Osamu has to give you pointers on how much of each to put in) and you scrounge around Atsumu's depressingly bare kitchen for a few sheets of seaweed and some easy fillings. Osamu pulls a stool up to the island counter and rests his chin on his hands so he can watch you with a bleary look of adoration on his face.
It takes youâŚmaybe half an hour to be done? Itâs hard to gauge time when youâre high. You and 'Samu both jump when the rice cooker finishes and plays the little rice cooker song, which will remain stuck in your head for the foreseeable future. 'Samu hums it in a loop while you shape the rice into lopsided triangles and wrap the nori around it.
âHere,â you tell him when you set the plate down in front of him. He looks entirely too happy to be eating your mediocre food for someone who literally does this for a living, but who cares.
He picks one, takes a bite, swallows. And blinks.
âWhat do you think?â you ask in spite of yourself.
âUmmâŚsalty,â Osamu says.
You grab one to try yourself and itâs salty. Like, ocean salty. Yuck. âI told you it would be bad,â you complain, trying to tug the plate away but Osamu grabs it and pulls it back.
âNooooâŚitâs good,â he lies, although his face is giving him away. Still, he takes another bite and chews enthusiastically.
âShut up.â You tug a little harder but Osamu doesnât let go.
He swallows, pulls a face, and takes another one. âSo good. I love it.â
âShut up. You sound so fake. Youâre going to get sick if you eat that.â You keep pulling, but he insists on pretending itâs edible so you admit defeat and help him finish the onigiri off. God, theyâre awful. But he keeps eating and so you do too.
When youâre done, your mouth feels dry as fuck and you want to sleep almost as much as you want to drink about a gallon of water. âIs it bedtime yet?â 'Samu asks, wiping his mouth and then rubbing his eyes again.
The clock over the oven says itâs past 4. âYes. Itâs bedtime.â
âWaitâweâreâŚweâre not at home, right? Weâre at 'Tsumu's?â
âMhm.â
âI prolly drove hereâŚI dunno if I can drive now,â Osamu tells you slowly, like heâs apologizing. âI think I'm kinda high.â
âOh yeah?â You hold your laugh back and put your hands up on his cheeks. âHow do you feel?â
âDizzy. Blurry? LikeâŚyouâre in slow-motion.â His hands come up to layer over yours. âYouâre pretty in slow-mo.â
âPrettier than usual?â
Osamu closes his eyes, scrunching them up to think and then looking over your face intently. âSame amount, just slower. So itâs easier to see.â
âThat so?â You slip your hands around to drape over his shoulders and get up on your tiptoes to give him a little kiss on the cheek, because heâs earned it. âYou know what, I think I'm kinda high too. I think weâre going to have to have a sleepover.â
âOn the couch? Sânot big enough for us both.â
âYou can sleep with 'Tsumu in his bedâŚor I guess you could sleep on the ground?â
'Samu's mouth twists and his brows draw together. You can practically hear the gears in his mind turning while he considers alternatives. âCan we share the bed?â
âI think Atsumu's gonna want it. Itâs his house.â
âBut heâs already sleeping.â
True, you can hear Atsumu snoring lightly from the living room underneath David Attenboroughâs description of endangered falcons in the Philippine rainforest. You should really wake him upâmatter of fact, you should really clean up the kitchen because itâs a huge messâbut 'Samu's already pulling you away. And youâre so sleepy.
âHeâs going to be pissed tomorrow,â you tell Osamu through a yawn, but you let him steer you in the direction of Atsumu's bedroom, holding your hand.
âDonât careâŚI hate sleeping without you.â
âYeah,â you say, and you squeeze his hand and he looks back at you like youâre the literal best thing in the entire universeâand you decide you should get him high more often. âSame.â

As 2020 comes to a close, this is probably the first time in a few years, that I have not properly reflected on the year that was and well, I have decided that whatever I have come up with I will post at midnight (side note: I have started this at 10pm on 31/12/2020 and why tf are there fireworks already? we still have 2 hours people ... ).Â
First and foremost, fuck you 2020. You really said âit ainât happening this yearâ which honestly, sucks balls. But all we could do, was continue on whilst our complaints fell upon your deaf ears. There were times when I really thought things were getting better, but then something else went wrong and it was all messed up again.Â
Many a time, I found myself looking to one of my favourite Dumbledore quotes:
âHappiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.âÂ
And I thought on it every time things seemed to be getting overwhelming, and I did not believe that there was a way to complete an assignment, or be prepared for a test, or finish my work, or just take some time out for myself in a crowded household during lockdown. This picture above helped me continuously search for that light when I felt like the darkness was too much [although it was a constant reminder that I would not be spending my Christmas and New Years in Europe but ... more on that later].Â
Oh lord, that reminds me ... goddamn did I really mess up my GPA in 2020. Studying from home did not insight any form of motivation to study, to complete assignments on time, or to a high standard. I genuinely put myself in this position. 2021 is a new year, and a year to f o c u s and put university before work - and there lies my fault, putting work first. Yes, I was getting paid good money. Yes, I was working for the New Zealand government at the ripe age of 20 - however, that should not have taken precedence over my academic record.Â
2020 also made me spend more time with myself - especially spiritually and in my mind and thoughts. This was scary, a very scary place to be. Still waiting for that proverbial âenlightenmentâ to be honest. Will it come? Iâll keep yâall updated. Too scary, Jordana no want to exposure herself lol.Â
As I sit in my room, watching David Attenboroughâs Blue Planet II documentary (and fkn sweating bc itâs too bloody hot right now) to ring in 2021, I am reminded that had COVID not happened, I would most likely be in MĂźnchen for the new year. Europe was where I was meant to be spending Christmas and New Years, with friends and family, and getting p i s s e d. BUT! I must be thankful for the fact that I have the opportunity to go out, drink in pubs and bars, see friends and family, shake hands with people, hug my loved ones. Bless New Zealand and how our Government responded to this virus. Thank you aunty Jacinda, Dr. uncle Ashley Bloomfield and cousin Adam Wendt (honestly GOOGLE THIS MAN HE IS AMAZING) for all your hard work over the New Zealand lockdown period - the 1pm updates literally kept our country going for those 4-6 weeks of being at home. Thank you for enabling this country to now be in the position that itâs in where we can travel, visit family and hang out with friends.Â
2020 has been a year of big learnings, moments to be thankful for, and new passions (hehe). I have learned: - To accept the fact that sometimes getting it done is better than failing [but at what cost - that I shall discover when I attempt to search for a Masters programme] - That more people believe in me than I would have ever believed, and thatâs more pressure than I would have expected - The ocean is something that is required to maintain balance in my life - without it, I wouldnât know where my safe place would be - That it is better to live for those who helped you get to where you are, rather than mourn them for an extended period of time. it is highly likely theyâd rather youâd get on with it than waste time - though this is a lot easier said than done - Making new friends is scary and I am not one that is good at establishing conversations , but 100% please message me to talk - am not scary just a lot more shy than I realised I promise <3 I am thankful: - To my family and friends for being able to celebrate my 21st birthday with me [I really didnât want anything but yâall came through with a surprise party that a girl could only wish to have] - For my best friend and how, despite the amount of time we spend apart, when we are together time rolls back to 2012 and weâre the carefree trio weâve always - To my marine lecturer for being the most understanding and lenient professor when it came to my many, many family commitments New passions? - Football? Football. Loves me some FC Bayern MĂźnchen men, with some Juventus and Liverpool and a hint of whatever else I feel like. - Oof journalling has become a big part of my life - I spend so much time writing a bunch of shit, that I probably need to start writing more for reflection purposes than just me having a laugh lol - F1. She happened about 2-3 weeks ago, when I started watching Drive to Survive and started seeing all these drivers popping up on my dash. Naturally, I put two and two together, and got handsome men with some juicy drama which a girl loves.
So ... what is Jordana taking into 2021? Pride, and dignity. Hopefully not the same shit Iâve carried into the previous 3 years lol. Let us hope that next year contains positive vibes, healthy mind, body, spirit and fish, and motivation for an improved GPA lol.Â
I want to wish you and your families all a safe and healthy 2021. Hopefully the COVID situation wherever youâre living improves, and life returns to some semblance of familiarity soon.Â
#jordana's reflections#2020#2021#university#university student#student#studyblr#studying#study#travel#new year same me new habits#will finish tags later#im fkn cooked#**cooked as in drunk#lol

Trinidad & Tobago - Carribean dreams...
I am so âvexâ that I won't be âlimingâ in this beautiful place any more. I have been one lucky person to have been able to come here and hang with a local for almost a week. Jasmine has shown me her Trinidad and for that I am truly grateful. I have eaten so many local foods and they have all been fantastic. I have impressed the locals no end with my love of pepper sauce. The food here is tasty, spicy, and pretty much specific to this island. âNah boyâ, I am so very much enamoured with this country! One of my friends asked me if I had posted photos of the food. Truth be told, I donât have a lot of pics, its not the most photogenic, and I seriously just wanted to eat it! I have partaken in the local speciality of doubles, with âplentyâ I might add - for those unaware that is with extra hot sauce and/or the mango bone that is infused with more pepper. Doubles is made with 2 baras filled with a curry channa (chick peas), it originally started as a breakfast food, progressing to be an anytime of the day food. Itâs nutritious, tasty, and sold at street side vendors everywhere. Apparently even pizza and KFC taste better over here. This I can now say I agree with. Not sure if the food tastes better, or if its adding the ketchup, mustard, and pepper sauce that assists with the taste upgrade.....
Jas took me to the home of street food a little town called St James, and made sure I got to have saheena, (seriously amazing spicy little deep fried spinachy deliciousness ) as well as alloo pie...amongst other things. The locals only really eat out at restaurants on special occasions so that meant Jas cooked for me a lot of the time, and wow, just wow. I loved the chicken curry (brown), smoked herring, baigan choka, salt fish, home made roti, the fabulous goat curry.... I could rave on, but google Trinidadian food and youâll understand. Jas lives out in the âcountryâ to the South of Port of Spain, the capital. We spent one evening heading around to some of the local rum bars. Rum bars are everywhere here. Beer is cold and cheap (and made here - love the Stag and the Carib!). I got to meet a few of the locals. Over here they will buy you a drink even for something as simple as the fact that they had to order over you slightly. At the bar. They loved to meet the âwhite girl from Austaliaâ, as out here they dont see a lot like me... The good thing is none of it was them just trying it on with the foreigner. These are genuinely lovely, polite, caring people. I had a dance off with some girls from Venezuela, and ended up drinking way more drinks then I paid for, eating (they sell bar snacks andâcuttersâ only at the rum shops) some tasty wontons at one place, and some really tasty fried chicken at another. We then got some free food from another lovely local who bought us a drink, and also then brought us across some Souse and Corn soup from his food stall (across the road from the rum shop). Anyway I can now say I have tried Souse, not sure Iâd eat it again, it was flavourful, but pigs trotters in broth with onion and cucumber is not on my list of things to eat again! I think I have decided that I need to come back to Aus and start my own Trini food store, I think itâd be a huge hit. Love the local beers. Love the rum here. Jas made sure I tasted the Puncheon rum - 75 % and you never get a hangover or upset stomach... I wanted to bring some home, but alas no room in the suitcase! One of the biggest things, I was not aware that this is the home where Angostura bitters is bottled. It was first created in the town called Angostura in Venezuela by a German surgeon stationed in Venezuela, originally produced there between 1824 - 1830. In 1875, the plant was moved to Trinidad and thatâs where itâs secret recipe is still produced today.
One of the main religions here is Hindu, they have a giant (85 feet - 26m) statue of Lord Hanuman Murti located in the grounds of Dattatreya Yoga. The statue is the second tallest in the world, and the tallest one in the western hemisphere. When we pulled up onsite there was one man looking after the bookstore who allowed us to enter the grounds and take photos. We weren't allowed to enter the temple/yoga centre as we weren't appropriately dressed. The gentleman then showed us the book explaining how the statue had been built and answered all my gazillion questions. It was like having our own private tour! Jas then took me down the road a little further to show me the temple in the sea. This temple was originally constructed by hand 1947 -52 by Sewdass Sadhu an immigrant from India. It has since been added to, and tidied up, but it's an amazing place, and a site of pilgrimage for Hindus. It's also one of the designated locations for Hindus to perform the funeral pyre. Hindu religion requires that the dead are burned near water and a holy place.
Brian Lara is still HUGE here. He is a home town Trini boy so I completely understand. Cricket is massive, and the new Brian Lara stadium is a huge landmark. They had a cricket game on when I was here (Trinidad vs Jamaica) but they had sold out the tickets otherwise we would have gone.
I spent a day at the beautiful Maracas beach, located on the northern part of Trini. On the way there we stopped at the lookout and had a quick look at the food stalls. I got to try some âChowâ, a garlicky spicy way of preserving such things as Pineapple, apple, mango, cucumber... its yummy and not too spicy and I really appreciated the stall holder giving me a taste ( and Jasâs friend Isabelle for buying some of the pineapple one). Maracas beach is a favourite with the locals and its a thing to do to have a âbake and sharkâ when you go to the beach. Betcha cant guess what I had... Can I say amazing (again!!) You not only get your bake (which is a deep fried Roti) You get beautiful fresh deep fried shark fillet inside it, then you go to a buffet like area and add as many of the additions as you want . Yep, of course I added a bit of EVERYTHING . I had to taste it all. Seriously that thing was amazing. BTW I do taste everything first before adding pepper sauce... pepper sauce heightens the flavours. Jasâs friend Isabelle got her son in law to give us a shout out on the radio station he worked at ( they had it playing at the beach), so âKaren from Australiaâ is now Trini Famous... love it!!
Jasmine took me out to the Pitch lake, in La Brea, and Iâll admit, I had no idea what it was ( I thought it was a lake!!) Anyway, some how we ended up with a colourful local as our personal guide, he was You tube famous and has apparently featured on David Attenboroughs visit to the lake. I have to sit and edit my âdocumentaryâ when Iâm back in Australia, itâll be awesome.. I promise. Suffice to say the lake is the most amazing tar pit. Seriously amazing tar pit. The roads leading into the area are all like travelling over mini crazy hills due to the impact of the tar movements in the area. You have to use an authorised guide on the site, which is fair enough as a wrong step could see you disappear forever into the tar... literally... Trinidads pitch lake is the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world (estimated to hold about 10 million tonnes) Its covers about 100 acres and is about 250 feet deep. There is a cool legend involving the origin of the lake the involves a hummingbird (I like the story), Historically Walter Raleigh re-discovered the lake on his expedition there in 1595. It has that charming rotten egg smell, and the mud and sulphur water apparently have healing properties. Locals were there immersing themselves in some of the pools while we were there. As we didnt have swim suits we had to settle with getting coated in the mud on our legs, and for me, also my face...lol!!! I didnt get a chance to put it on myself, out guide was very keen to smear it all over my face... (and shirt and hair.. etc...). Rinsing it, after it had set, was a whole other process involving splashing what looked Iike green water all over my face (and legs), all I wanted to do was rinse my face with some fresh water afterwards - and it took over an hour or so until I finally got somewhere to do it. Letâs not talk about how much scrubbing it required later that night to get the last bits of our skin! A great fun day though, made all the better for our colourful guide! I have had a crash course in some of the Trinidadian slang/words and between that and their accents I am sometimes lost in a conversation... (definitely accents particularly when you are trying to enter the country and the border control guy is talking to you and you have to continually say, sorry what??? ) Iâm a lot better now!!
Jas couldnât make it over to Tobago as she had work scheduled at her house that she needed to be around for. So I decided to head over for a night, hire a car, and see what I could see. Its literally a 20 min flight over (only costs about 50 US return) FYI 24 hrs isnât really enough to see everything. I didnt get to the water fall or national park. I had headed down to Store bay beach when I first arrived with instructions to try the curry crab, conch and dumplings in Tobago (its their local specialty, amongst a few other things). Have to say I liked the conch, crab was over cooked and dry, and dumplings were kind of chewy. The âprovisionsâ that I got with it were really nice though - Plantain, Potato, green banana, avocado ..I would have liked to have tried another outlet to give a second opinion, but didnt have the time. I did get to the beautiful Pigeon Park, a natural reserve area, filled with some shops, water sports hire, beautiful beaches and glorious spot to watch the sunset. I also got out to the Fort of King George in Scarborough hiking up the giant hill to take in the glorious views. Hilariously there was a traffic hold up on my way there due to some goats being herded along the road. Island time boy. I would have to say, as much as its a part of the one country, Tobago island is completely different to Trinidad. Its a lot more touristy for a start, it has more servicible beaches. The roads are not as pot holed as Trinidad. The people are still lovely, but you get the tourist scouters who are looking to sell you on anything they can. Its a beautiful place and Iâm so glad I got to go across and visit. As always, I can always go back!
My time in the Caribbean has come to a close. (9-16 Oct). What an adventure. I have had a fabulous time, and recommend to anyone to come here and see this place, taste the food and meet the people for themselves. The country has their own issues with government corruption which impacts the improvement of infrastructure like roads etc. And there are warnings around safety as there are elements involved in crime that impact locals and tourists alike. This just makes Trinidad Tobago, not unlike a lot of other countries that I have visited on my adventures. It just means the more prepared you are to be open to new things, different ways of doing things, different cultures. The more you are aware of your own safety, and that of your belongings , the more you can avoid crime. Crime can impact you anywhere in the world, countries like this dont have it any more or less than others, it just seems to be in the media more....

467.
Describe your hometown. Whatâs it like there? I grew up in a really safe, white, middle class country town lol. It was very pretty and had lots of nice landscaped parks and pedestrianised streets. I found it boring as a child but looking back there was a fair bit to do - we had a couple of cinemas, a bowling alley, a skating rink, bars and clubs and some decent shops and restaurants. It was a good place to raise kids but Iâm glad I donât live there as an adult.
What did you do yesterday evening? Absolutely nothing and it was heaven lol. We ordered chippy for tea and then just chilled on the sofa and watched movies. This is my first weekend off for weeks and itâs been SO nice to just chill. And for once Iâve not been sick, or had a sick dog to care for, or had horses or cats or whatever to feed lol.
Are you comfortable with leaving the house without any makeup on? I canât remember the last time I left the house WITH make-up on.
Do you have any expensive hobbies? Horse-riding - my lessons cost me ÂŁ35 a week and then beach rides/hacks out are at least ÂŁ90 a go as well, but my dad VERY kindly gave me money towards riding this year for my birthday so I donât need to worry so much about the cost anymore.
What length do you like to keep your nails at? Short, otherwise they get caught on leads and stuff at work.
Have you ever felt physical pain in a dream? I donât think so.
What is the oldest online account that you still use? Probably my Yahoo! e-mail address.
Have you ever had Christmas carolers come to your house and sing for you? Yeah, a few times when I was younger, but it doesnât really seem to be a âthingâ anymore, at least - not since COVID.
Do you know anyone whose family has lived in the same house forâŚ3+ generations? Not to my knowledge, no.
What was the last video game you beat? BeatStar - then they released an update for it which is really annoying and now I donât really play it as much.
Whatâs your favorite Studio Ghibli film? Iâve never seen any of them.
What did you learn from your last failed relationship? That some people really arenât worth it.
What country does your favorite band hail from? England.
Whatâs something on your to-do list that never actually gets done? Finish decorating the bathroom. Itâs been two years since we started it and weâre still not even halfway through hahah. Itâs just expensive and a hassle as itâll involve being without a shower for a few days too.
Have you ever been really passionate about something but then lost interest? If so, what was it? Yeah - reading, for sure. I used to read everyday and would get through several books a week, but then I ended up on medication that killed my concentration span and I just never got back into it. I do read on holiday (like, by a pool or something) but thatâs about it. Itâs not that I donât still enjoy it, I just got out of the habit really.
Do you sleep with the TV or the radio on? Not on purpose, but Iâve fallen asleep in front of the TV more than once.
Whatâs the worst thing about being male/female (whichever you are)? Periods, the pressure to have children and do traditionally female things.
What movie has the best special effects? I donât really pay attention to that kind of thing.
How many work hours per week is too much for you? I work about 30 hours and thatâs fine for me, but I work outdoors in a physical job so itâs much more tiring than working indoors sitting down, lol. Iâve done 40 hour weeks in this job and it nearly killed me, I was so sore and tired hahah.
What habit is essential to your daily life? Getting at least an hour of peace and quiet to myself, every single day.
What is your favorite documentary? Anything by Louis Theroux or David Attenborough.
When did you last have a vision test? Years ago, ha. Iâm way overdue an eye test but itâs SO expensive to get new glasses that I keep putting it off lol.
What do you typically eat for breakfast? Lately itâs been peanut butter and sliced banana on toast with a coffee and a glass of fruit juice. I go through phases of eating the same thing for weeks then I switch to something else lol.
What are three things you need to do tomorrow? Go to work, feed the animals, spend time with my mum.
