Fuck it, what instruments I think the Wolf 359 characters play with little to no justification:
Eiffel: Drums (loud. Also more important than people care to admit)
Minkowski: Flute (but was never first chair)
Hera: Voice (which DOES count as an instrument. I just like to imagine my girl singing)
Hilbert: Piano (classically trained)
Lovelace: Clarinet (proficient at the classical repertoire, but prefers jazz. I like to think she learned from a relative)
Kepler: Tenor saxophone (had to walk away from his ~funk band~)
Jacobi: Cello (in his offical playlist it ends with the 2Cellos cover of Thunderstruck. Which is. TOO PERFECT. I think he was really good at cello through his childhood, but would complain nonstop about it. But maybe secretly like it???)
Maxwell: Synthesizer (cool machines. Probably also owns a theremin)

The chazfam have been on my mind recently.... Care to drop a few random facts about some of em? :3
OH ALSO I really like their designs!!!!!
YES I SURE CAN!
- the chazfam like playing in one big improv group together so they each have their own signature instrument they like to default to :]
chuck- trumpet
chime- clarinet
charm- singer
chintz- piano
cheer- drums
chet- tenor sax
chaz- alto sax
(ik chaz’ instrument looks nothing like an alto sax but like. it sounds like an alto sax a lot of the time rather than a typical clarinet so that’s what i went with)
- chaz gets along the best with cheer, he gets along worst with chet
- they’ve invited the other bounty hunters over at LEAST once, they have no idea chaz met them from bounty hunting though, nor do they know he even is one
- chime is where chaz got his affinity for tigers from but he’d never admit that
- they’re the last swing jazz trolls out there but they’re hoping to change that!

If you were to give each agent and villain their own theme, what kind of genre and/or motifs would you give each one?
oh my GAWD as much as I love music and soundtracks, I'm not knowledgeable enough to like! Describe it in the detail I want, if that makes sense?? I'll try my best to describe what I've got so far though.
The biggest idea I've got is that everyone's themes MUST be jazz-adjacent. There could be different styles but it's REQUIRED. that it must be jazzy. okay?? It would have the same vibes as most bond songs. Could also dip into other similar genres like soul/rnb/bossa nova/swing?/etc depending on the character.
IDEALLY each character would have a unique instrument as the "primary" (Like sadness's trombone in the first movie. which I would also use for her here lol), and the tempo of their songs would fit their personalities as well. Generally the SEGO guys would have smoother jazz and the ID villains would lean more towards energetic, improvised jazz. It would also be cool if each group had like. an underlying base chord that they all use in different ways? The leitmotif moment............
Alright, under the cut are some more ""in-depth"" thoughts about the themes that I'm literally spitballing. like right neow. BTW when I say "character themes" they're kinda like the One Piece character jingles whenever an advertisement comes up (in the older eps at least. haven't reached the recent seasons yet no spoilers /lh), or the UNDERTALE character themes like Death by Glamour, Alphys, sans. and etc. YOU GET WHAT I MEAN?? okay good. onto the brain dumps!!
Verte's theme would be THE definition of smooth jazz. Thinking of giving her the sax for fun. I love the sax. Uncompromisingly smooth and sure of herself. And I'LL SAY IT. it would have that seductive touch to it. It's the sexyphone. Ok? Inspirations would be Nico Robin's theme, License to Kill by Gladys Knight, and Just One Dance by Caro Emerald
Roz I'm not super sure? He could have the piano as his main instrument. I kinda like the idea that it wants to be as suave as Verte's theme, but it's got that frantic vibe of a newbie stumbling into the difficult world of espionage. I don't know how to express that in music. His theme would be the most energetic out of the agents' because he's the most nervous LOL something like Hold On, Please! by Louie Zong? (I was also trying to find songs with tenor voices in them before i realized i just wanted to imagine Roz singing beautifully. sue me /lh)
Bughaw's theme would be just like the sadness theme for the first movie: slow and simple, though it's got that bass fullness to it. I don't know what I'm talking about. If I had to name inspirations, Nina Simone's Feeling Good and I Put a Spell On You would have similar vibes?? Trombone is my pick for her heh. TBH just remembered the Charlie Brown themes would be so fitting for her too
Indigo's would be the slowest out of everyone's themes. It almost sounds like it's droning. Close to how Bughaw's theme would sound but less bass-y. Could be one of those things that'll help you sleep or it's beautifully haunting. Or both. No Time To Die by Billie Eilish is a good inspiration, without the rising notes and all. It's probably because her voice adds to like. that ghostly feel. She could have like a very out-there/modern instrument, probably not always associated with jazz. Like the theremin or something.
Terror's theme. Would sound the most like a stereotypical saturday morning cartoon villain. Kinda like the Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc. Jingles. Maybe EXACTLY like those jingles. Just a little bit goofy, but I do want a melody that can be a solid intimidating villain theme when it needs to be.
Hellforge's theme would have a lot of like, really loud sounds and is probably the most chaotic theme (but also like, really triumphant). He sounds like a drums guy to me - if I recall correctly his introduction in the first movie was accompanied by drums LOL Something like Caravan by Wes Montgomery and I'm Gonna Live Till I Die by Frank Sinatra.
April's theme would have a similar style to 2econd 2ight 2eer by Will Wood . She might be the one to get a swing-adjacent theme... Ngl I thought about how the Bundle of Joy melody would sound as a jazz piece too...She's the main contender for the trumpet as well.
Out of the League villains, Axyon could have the most put-together yet the most intimidating theme out of them all. It's a bit of a contrast from her tendency to get REAL unhinged, but at least it's planned and done with intent. I need her MENACING and COOL. okay. I keep associating her with the Cog in the Machine theme from I Expect You To Die 3. It's a fitting song for her character, it could be how her theme sounds too.
Vivien's theme would be a more upbeat version of Verte's theme; same beats and notes, with a sprinkle of a unique and childlike style that still makes Vivien her own character. I like Trucy Wright's theme for her hehe.
Grandma Meemaw could have an even older-sounding theme with some jazz to it...Probably something close to classical pieces, though I'm blanking out for this one. Also a big candidate for the piano. Or the violin. Any instrument most associated with the blanket term "classical" music i guess

✨ End of Year Questions ✨
Tagged by @ongreenergrasses 💖
I also didn’t think I created much this year, and. To be completely honest, I didn’t really make much new art, and what I did I didn’t really post here. Most of what I’ve done this year is really continue writing snippets of lyrics/verses/poetry in my notes. Hoping to make more time for a lot of things this year!
What is the favourite thing you created?
A sailboat reduction print (lino style but on a literal disposable plate)
Which work are you most proud of?
Honestly, either that same sailboat print or some of the poetry/lyric snippets I’ve written this year. Or the leather medicine pouch (also created for my class final project)
Is there anything you’re proud that you achieved this year?
I’m proud that I created anything at all outside of class requirements (I took one art centred course at the beginning of the year, which my sailboat print was created in)
Did you explore anything new this year?
Not so much for creating, but I did get stickers made of some of my previous work to sell at fairs and whatnot.
Wait no the leather medicine pouch - I haven’t done much leatherwork yet though I really want to create super long lasting functional pieces and textiles is very new to me and is a way of connecting to my grandmothers’ past. And I also joined a sewing/quilting club at school (which doesn’t seem to be running this year but I have no time anyway this semester so that’s fine) (I have not finished the sewing supply bag project we started)
Which work gave you the most difficulty?
Anything finished haha. I am still striving to fully finish and edit and refine some of my lyrics into songs (eventually to try to record and produce with whatever free and/or cheap software I can find).
Also some of the more unusual custom cake requests at work were difficult to do but they worked out.
And textiles can be. Frustrating.
What was your biggest creative challenge this year?
Finding time to create. I definitely took this as a year to go and do things that I. Had to go to. And while I probably could’ve brought a mini sketchbook with me, I didn’t usually.
Which work brought you the most joy?
A birthday card I did for a friend. It’s a pen sketch of their favourite beach (at least the view I got when I took a quick visit and picture of it)
Which of your works do you think people should check out?
…from 2023 nothing is posted unless you’re on my personal instagram or something. (Unless I did post my year of the water rabbit watercolour paintings? In which case - those.)
Otherwise my Creating Awl Together story/series (once I make time to create more for it 😅)
Do you have creative plans for the new year? Is there anything exciting that you’re working on?
Oh always 🥺💖✨
I accidentally made a new years resolution to record one of the songs I’ve written,, but also I want it to be. Better than the literal middle school vent lyrics I’ve written.. so we are. Trying to write some new stuff and upgrade to… mid twenties vent lyrics… (and some like!?! Joyful lyrics too?!?!) (I’m actually excited and terrified and don’t really play any instruments right now and what I played on flute isn’t really necessarily the vibe for what’s in my head?? But it could have a place so I’ll probably play again and if need be I could probably rent a tenor sax for a day or so.) so. Next up is learning (or throwing together) a bit of music production (I am currently gathering royalty free free samples from anywhere I find them more or less)
I really want to draw a lot more this year!!
And paint more again!!
And of some of these drawings I want to transfer them to be lino cut or dry point and do them as prints!!!
I have several quilts I want to make!! I’m going to start really small though to. Learn how to sew them haha 😅 But I hope my first quilt is a lovely sea turtle themed quilt for one of my best friends’ cat. Or a lap quilt for mum. I. Realistically I don’t think I’ll get to this before the end of the year.
I want to paint more ceramic pieces at the paint your own ceramics place (I have. Several pieces that I just need to finish painting)
More cards that I drew on~ I have a bit more energy than last year despite everything it seems right now so I am hoping I can continue to draw on cards for my friends 💖
This shall be the year I finish my dogs out doodle (barefoot ship life!!!)
Lastly, any words of wisdom or advice to share?
To myself: just try. Just try. Just do. It can be whatever. Just create something. Just create anything. Joy, catharsis, one single line. Anything you can.
Given how late I filled this out I’m not tagging anyone 😬

Do you play any musical instruments, or, perhaps, sing? Or both?
Besides my amazing left-handed air guitar? Hmm. Twenty years ago I was... passable at tenor sax. Quit due to a combination of a terrible teacher, an undiagnosed medical problem, and my inability to reach the deep note valves due to my stubby pinkies 😔 I guess I could have switched to an alto, but I still woulda had the aforementioned teacher, so no go.
Oh, I have a kalimba that was gifted to me by an eccentric family friend. I have a sheet that shows which tabs are regular notes and which are the sharps and flats, but I greatly prefer to freestyle on it. Feels more authentic somehow. Though I would totally be down for learning a Ghost song on it if Ghost ever releases, like, sheet music

The fact that i.n has a french horn made me think of who would play what in Marching band. As a certified band kid, and trumpet player (important for later), i am qualified to make this decision.
Chan is drum major. He is best leader, he keeps time, he makes sure everyone in the band is alright. He's also section leader in the off season for percussion, probably plays a wind instrument but surprises everyone by playing bass clarinet.
Noona is hard to pinpoint, because it's a reader insert so i don't wanna pick one and have someone feel left out, so I'll say tuba and make everyone mad.
Minho is flute during marching season and piccolo off season. He's also a section leader but begrudgingly because he was assigned it.
Changbin is a trumpet. There's this joke about trumpet players having massive egos, but i think he's my kinda of trumpet player. He conveniently picked one up, thought it sounded cool, played for all of middle and high school. He's got a tiny bit of ego, like he compliments himself all the time. but once someone else compliments him, he's all shy, so. He isn't section leader but is kinda section leader bc he takes care of all the little baby trumpet players while the section leader fucks off.
Hyunjin is sax. He has the big hands, long fingers, kinda braggadocious about his skills because he knows hes good. He's not section leader because he "doesn't want that responsibility" and would rather be anywhere but practice. But when he's there, oh boy. He might also play in jazz, and during off season he plays tenor sax.
Jisung is also a trumpet player. He's definitely a band kid, like the way he acts reminds me of my trumpet players in my section leader days. He's always with changbin and always playing a random meme song even when chan signals for them to get on their marks.
Felix is clarinet. Look at that face and tell me he doesn't play clarinet. He's pure, a baby, but also has some lungs on him. The one time i tried to play clarinet i couldn't put enough air through it to make a note, but he sure can.
Seungmin is french horn. He's the kind of player that sits in class, goes to practice, plays the notes, and never plays the instrument outside that. He also keeps good time, and if you know about french horns you know they almost always play up beats and you need good time for that.
Jeongin plays trombone. Only because his arms are long enough and he wanted to do the sad trombone sound whenever.
The marching band is chaos with them, but they put on a hell of a show when they're prepared.
- 💀
Hahahhaah.
WHY IS THIS SO ACCURATE.
I mean. As a previous band kid, it totally makes sense that you would be able to nail this so perfectly. XD
I am shocked.
And I loved it all.
And THE CHAOS THAT WOULD HAPPEN WOULD MAKE IT ALL WORTH IT

15 questions, 15 people
thanks k @18minutemajor for the tag!
nickname: i don’t really have one, though corwin once gave the server hockey nicknames and decided i was “larzies”
sign: taurus
height: 5′4″
last thing i googled: “redbubble” (i was buying stickers for my brother for hanukkah)
song stuck in my head: “say i won’t (recognize)” by the gaslight anthem. spotify dropped this on me in last week’s discover weekly and it began taking up too much brain space
amount of sleep: i try to get 8 hours, sometimes more, usually less
dream job: broadway sound designer. or a sports sociologist.
wearing: my favorite flannel (it’s like a size too big and red and comfy), a menzingers shirt, jeans, black converse high-tops with rainbow laces
movies/books that summarize you: oh geez this is hard. i like so many things and i have kind of eclectic tastes and i’m already horrible at picking things so i’m just gonna skip this question...
favorite song: i am so bad at picking favorites so here’s a few: “gates” by the menzingers, “remedy” by state champs, “kids” by PUP, “the crowd” by operation ivy, “45″ by the gaslight anthem
instrument: i play trumpet the most these days, but my first instrument was clarinet, which i started playing in elementary school, and then i picked up tenor sax to join jazz band in middle school. i didn’t learn trumpet until i had to switch instruments for marching band in college. i sort of know how to play bass guitar, and i can plunk out notes and chords on the piano. i have attempted to teach myself guitar but that is basically a lost cause.
aesthetic: punk meets girl next door. band t-shirts, ripped jeans, and cool boots, plus the occasional sweater and funky socks.
favorite author: gonna list a few again. n.k. jemisin, emily st. john mandel, fredrik backman, madeline miller, seanan mcguire
random fun fact: i have 38 playlists on spotify
tagging: if you want to! @arsonandhockey @washyourdamnhands @juhollamago @dawson-mercer @nastybastian @thewestishharpooners @stromesquad @avsmfs @shea-theodore @turbolainen @jonasiegenthaler and an open invitation to anyone who wants to!

literally.... one of my friends was like "oh you got your band geek experience w/ the rose you must be so happy"
but i literally think it was a monkey's paw event
cause the second i stepped onto that plane, the music store my mom bought my first guitar (which was MY first instrument instead of using her keyboard) my first full scale guitar, my first clarinet, my first bass, and the tenor sax i played at carnegie as a kid announced it's closure
and also the music store where i bought my flute that i've gigged on, and my bass clarinet i played at carnegie as an adult did too????
literally monkey's paw

in case ur curious, because i know u are, some of the works on my radar for performance are
point of resonance (2022) by harrison j. collins (currently under exclusivity but i would pay So Much Money to perform this. oh my god. oh my god it's stunning)
she danced in the rain (2018) by cait nishimura (golden hour (2020) is everybody's first choice i know i know but listen. all my colleagues have played it in the past year)
go to the garden (2022) by eris dejarnett (luv narration with live instrumentals)
alpenpass and riverrun (2023) by kevin mckee (riverrun makes me feel like i'm in a d&d campaign irl)
constellations (2019) by katahj copley (katahj's music is fucking. mind-blowingly good. constellations is currently written for tenor sax and euphonium but i believe he's open to arranging it for other solo instruments)
salutation over fractal ground by hope salmonson (pretty snow imagery + canadian trans composer. W)
a song for past selves (2022) by eris dejarnett
sonata for trumpet and piano ("the tempest") (2004) by david gillingham
i'm so normal. i'm so normal i'm so normal i'm so
i love being an instrumental music nerd so much. i'm at the tail end of my BMus in trumpet and my graduation recital was a week ago, and i programmed mostly new music (helios (2020) by eris dejarnett and sonata for trumpet and piano (1995) by eric ewazen) because i just. i love contemporary classical SO MUCH. it's such a rich genre of music and contemporary composers are writing their very souls into their work. like, i'm not a classical music hater, but i personally struggle to grasp at meaning in classical instrumental works. contemporary classical is so good for having meaning baked into the essence of a piece of music which is what i love about it. i love stories, i love telling stories and reading stories, i love characters and worldbuilding and imagery and themes — contemporary classical music does that for me!
which! is why i'm really excited about the next step in my music education. i'm auditioning for a master's in trumpet performance, which is nuts because i NEVER planned on doing this, but! here i am! and when i do my MMus i'm going to have so much more time with my instrument, not to mention creative freedom, and i'm really looking forward to programming my recitals. i want to tell stories with the music i perform, i want my audience to walk away feeling changed somewhat. i want to weave sound into a story, or a character or a place or an emotion, that resonates with people. and i can't wait to get to do that

Band nerd au
As a band kid that grew into a "music major", in quotations cause I'm pausing school until pandemic ends, I will actually make this a thing. Don't tempt me like. I have an outline of a boarding school au that I could merge into a performing arts school/band school thing.
But I am taking this opportunity to give my very official, one hundred percent factual, list of what instrument each one would play in a concert band style thing
Marinette: she's a flute. Generic. Very middle ground. Wouldn't want to play solos but she has a very light tone. However, she likes to play loud and proud, very trumpet style
Adrien: oboe. Total oboe. Started on Clarinet, wanted to stay clarinet, but he was totally pressured to fill the empty chair since he was the best clarinet
Alya: this girl is a tenor sax. Tenor all the way. If you think otherwise you're clearly wrong and should reconsider your life. She's the tenor that you know is in jazz band. She doesn't have to say it she plays a note and you know
Nino: he's a percussionist. Plays like, timpani, or any of the aux PERC played with sticks. Wood block, temple blocks, the whole bit. He also wears sunglasses so much and the band director is so tired of reminding him he can't wear them indoors
Luka: since there's no strings, homeboy plays the bass clarinet. Everyone kinda overlooks him but like, his parts are what make everything sound so good, with the lower harmonies and bass support. He quietly sits behind the clarinets, does his thing, flawlessly. You rarely hear his tone break if it's not a reed problem
Kagami: french horn. French. Horn. If anyone mentions that their part sucks she just coughs and gestures to her whole page of offbeats. But her tone? She's a champ at the high notes, crystal clear and light, but then you get her on those lower tones? Oh man. Strong, a force to be reckoned with
Juleka: piccolo. She's usually trying to get a like, second or third flute part, but her pitches are so delicate and clear that she gets handed the piccolo part every time. Really does like, lyrical music super well
Rose: Tuba. TUBA TUBA. TUBA. she's a tuba. Okay just, trust me. She has the lungs to really hold those long, long notes, really adds so much tone and texture, never too overpowering though. But, she goes off the hook when she gets accented notes and big loud sections
Nathaniel: mallet percussion. He considers himself to be like. The king of the band room. Reading notes without having to use his lungs? He's a big asshole about it too. But he misses cues a lot more than you'd think
Alix: I'm, on the fence. But my gut says trombone. Nearly perfect pitch, she's the one that tunes for a little too long. Can hold a tone like no tomorrow, but she can master the bell tone. Mute master. Somehow always has her mutes in on time, but you never see her move
Kim: this is a trumpet. He's a trumpet! Improv king, he has no clue what he's doing theory wise but his solos sound so good? It's his musical instinct. Awful at counting long rests though. Will not come in on time. He does his best to quiet down when he's not the melody, wants to give everyone their chance to shine
Max: clarinet. Basic. I'm sorry but like. He's been playing the same instrument since he was a child he's just. It's clarinet energy. Sometimes a little too loud, so you always know when the clarinet comes in. But he's very technically and theoretically on point, he's a theory man
Mylene: aux percussion. Wind chimes, triangle, maracas. Whip crack. Very shy at first, nervous about missing cues, but after a chance to practice, she's always on point. Her specialty is a perfectly built suspended cymbal roll
Ivan: drums. He plays them on kit, so he does bass and snare at once. He will loudly apologize when he messed up. His favourite thing to do are rolls, complicated rhythms take him time to get down
Sabrina: here me out on this one, she's a bari sax. Bari sax players are either the classic Band Boy, or they're the coolest girl you've ever met. She's the middle ground. Started on alto, didn't vibe, and moved to fill the bari spot and hasn't moved since
Chloe: alto sax, believe it or not. But not jazz. Not at first. She acts like she only likes more technical or classical pieces, but once she plays something like, Can't Stop the Beat, it's over. Sometimes squeaks, gets all huffy when she does, plays like she has something to prove
Okay. There are the like. Individual ones. Now for the rest of the characters I use more often, so instruments double up starting here. But they're all different vibes
Lila: she's an alto sax, but actually she plays Soprano sax, but since there's never parts, she'll take an alto. Whenever she messes up a fingering she mentions that it's cause it's not her home instrument and like. Okay girl sure. Please play your part
Ondine: she's a baritone horn player, but she does play trumpet in like. Jazz. Will argue that the baritone is better than the Euphonium, and she's right- prefers the lower harmony when on trumpet
Marc: we've got another flute. The classic, shy little flute player that surprises everyone by playing the part right the first time. Master sight reader. Started as a piano player, but he prefers playing in ensemble
Aurore: she is totally a clarinet. But not in the way Max is. She's like, in the goofy sidekick song, they use a lot of clarinet, it's also a feature of a lot of say, Jewish music? Sounds weird to phrase it that way but it is.
And if you've gotten this far and you're a band kid past or present, you may be thinking "but scream, you forgot an instrument! You forgot! You big dumb idiot where is this last instrument?!"
And don't you worry. I didn't forget. I was saving this for last. On purpose. Here it is.
Wayhem: bassoon. He's a double Reed. Will never shut up about the fact that he and Adrien are like "our own mini section!! Double reeds are different guys it's its own thing" and he's wrong. Gets flustered when his notes change too much too fast
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT
if you disagree you're wrong, I'm right, this is true. And correct. But you can argue (or agree) with me all you want. Also if you want more of this like. Let me know I loved this

When the Universe Collides (Sam Wilson x Reader)
Summary: Every person has a soulmate. When your soulmate experiences pain, so do you, and any bruises, scars, or other markings that they get appear on your skin. Or, the story of how smacking yourself in the face with a cabinet was the best thing to ever happen to you.
Notes: Hi! Since the first episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier comes out today, I wanted to write something for Sam! He’s super underrated and deserves more love! Also, this soulmate AU is extremely self-indulgent and has absolutely nothing to do with the TV show, but tbh I don’t care. Hope you all enjoy it too! (no y/n, no pronouns) (PS: any italicized text is Sam texting and the italicized and bold text is the reader texting!)
Warnings: mentions of a stab wound (nothing explicit), cursing I guess
WC: 2.2 k
Tumblr media
Your soulmate must have one hell of a job.
Almost every day, you woke up with dark bruises covering your body. It seemed that whenever one faded, another took its place. At completely random times, you would double over in aches that you certainly didn’t inflict upon yourself. One time, in the middle of the night, you woke up with pain in your stomach so intense, it felt like someone had stabbed you! It turned out that it was a stab wound, but given that no one had stabbed you lately (or ever), you figured it was from your soulmate. You definitely didn’t appreciate that hospital bill.
But you still desperately wanted to meet them. Meet that person that completed you: your other half. As a teenager, you made your parents tell you the story of the day they finally met so many times, you knew it by memory. They were both in the library at college, and your mom dropped a psychology textbook on her foot! Her howl of pain was only matched by the “SON OF A BITCH” that came from your dad on the opposite side of the library. When the two of them made eye contact, they instantly knew they were the ones for each other (they were also immediately kicked out for making such a ruckus). You wanted to have that moment so badly; meeting your soulmate was a huge milestone in every person’s life, and you needed it.
Your best friend and roommate, Brianna, had met hers just two months ago. They had met at the beach, when out of nowhere, Bri had shrieked in shock and pain.
“A crab just pinched me!”
When you had looked at her foot and told her nothing was there, she was totally confused, until you saw a handsome guy with a crab hanging from his foot! He had introduced himself as Julian, and the two had been inseparable since. He was living with you now, and you had honestly never felt more lonely in your life. Sure, you had your dream career; you ran a music shop in New York City, selling instruments, making repairs, and meeting all sorts of interesting people. You had a decent apartment, a chill best friend, and the cutest Yorkie, named Muffin, on the planet. By all accounts, you had it pretty good. You were just missing your other half.
It was a rainy day in NYC. The chill of winter was still clinging onto the March air, and you shivered as you trudged from your apartment to your shop. Even though you had an umbrella to protect you from the rain, the wind blew right through the too-thin jacket you yanked off of the coatrack in a rush. Still holding your half-eaten toaster strudel in your hand, you pushed open the doors to Major Instruments and Minor Repairs, your pride and joy.
It was two floors: the first was where you sold instruments, and the repair shop was above. Acoustic panels were attached to the burnt red walls to help quiet down the place, since the hardwood floors didn’t do much to help with that. The checkout desk was directly in the center in the room. Surrounding it were reeds, bottles of valve oil, and guitar strings. Picks were placed in two clear, plastic bowls on the desk itself. In the front left corner of the room was a grand piano, situated right in the window so passersby could see whenever someone plucked its keys. The entire back wall was covered in guitars and basses. To the right of the desk was a large drumset, accompanied by a pair of drumsticks and brushes. On the right wall were string instruments; string basses and cellos were leaned against the wall, while the violins, violas, and bows were displayed on it. Woodwind and brass instruments were scattered across the room in various display cases. Instrument stands, bow rosin, and miscellaneous instrument parts were on shelves throughout the room as well. The spiral staircase leading up to the repair shop was in the back left corner of the room. Behind the staircase was the door to the back store room, where you kept your extra supplies and also where you took your breaks.
“Good morning!” called Andrew, one of your closest friends from college, from behind the desk.
You waved in reply, wandering to the back store room. You were lucky you had Andrew; you could rely on him to run the front desk while you and Brianna assisted customers on the floor. Unfortunately, Bri had the flu today, so it would just be you on the floor, which would make things a little more hectic. You hurriedly finished your strudel, took off your jacket, which left you in a black and white flannel, a matching black tank top reading “Music is Life,” black leggings, and black combat boots (you had an aesthetic to uphold), and strode back out to the main area.
“You seem in a bit of a rush. Everything okay?” asked Andrew, who was currently restocking bell covers.
You sighed, “Just a whirlwind of a morning. Bri has the flu, Muffin nearly choked on a chicken bone, I almost burned my toaster strudel, and I smacked myself in the face with my cabinet door by accident.”
“Oh, that’s where the new bruise on your eye is from,” he mused.
You snorted, “Yeah, for once it’s not from my soulmate.”
“Maybe he’s a spy. Or a superhero!”
“Yeah, or a criminal,” you joined in on the restocking, grabbing some trumpet mutes since the place opened in just half an hour, “thanks for opening up, by the way.”
“It’s no problem,” he replied, “you know I don’t mind.”
The doorbell jingled and two of your instrument repair people, Sarah (for strings), and Natalie (for brass), entered. Natalie was lugging what was unmistakably a tuba case, while Sarah carried both of their instrument repair kits.
“Morning, ladies!” called Andrew.
“Good morning,” Sarah replied pleasantly.
Natalie huffed out a “morning” and dragged the tuba up the stairs.
“Her tuba’s broken. The tubing that holds up her mouthpiece completely snapped off. She’s going to try and repair it before her appointments today,” explained Sarah.
You winced, “That’s rough.”
Sarah dropped off both of their jackets and followed Natalie up the stairs leaving you alone with Andrew again. Soon after, Erik, your percussion guy, and John, the woodwind repairman, arrived, and it was time for the shop to open. For a while, it was just another mundane Thursday. Customers came and went. People tested the piano and drumsets, someone bought $100 worth of jazz scores, and a teenaged boy came in who somehow got a ping pong ball stuck in their trombone (you learned to never ask). But at exactly 1:47 pm, a time you would never forget, two very unexpected customers walked through the threshold of your store. You were up on a ladder, carrying a large, rather heavy, box of violin bows to situate on the wall, when you heard their voices.
“I’m telling you, Buck, I’m a wizard at the saxophone.”
“Sure, Sam. I’ll believe it when I hear it.”
“I’m serious, dude! I played all the time before I joined the military, and I picked it back up a little bit again after the whole Avengers thing. I just need to get a new one.”
“Hmm, okay. We’ll see.”
“Bastard.”
You whipped your head around and saw the Falcon and the Winter Soldier themselves in your shop. Having superheros in your place was a first. And who knew Sam Wilson played the saxophone?
Andrew offered them a cheerful greeting and directed them toward the saxophones, which happened to be near the ladder you were teetering on. Every time you leaned up to put a bow on display, it wobbled so badly you thought you were going to fall. You really needed to allocate some funds toward a new one.
As you continued to place bows on display, you heard the conversation of the two gentlemen browsing the saxophones. Apparently, Sam much preferred the tenor sax (which you happened to play, quite well you might add). Out of the corner of your eye, you saw him pick up a Selmer Paris model and inspect it. Those didn’t come cheap, but you were sure that saving the world gave a man a pretty decent paycheck.
“You think I can test it out?”
“I don’t know, dude. You should probably ask.”
You saw him nod, “Yeah, I guess so. And there’s not a reed in here, anyway. Excuse me!”
You realized he was calling you, so you craned your head to look at him. Both men were looking up at you, both with kind smiles on their faces.
“Is there any way I can get a cheap reed to test this out with,” Sam asked, “and are we even allowed to test them in store?”
You smiled back, “Yes, you can. We have test reeds at the front desk, just ask Andrew and he’ll give you one. That’s the only one you’ll get though.”
“Cool, thanks,” he replied while looking around, “nice place you’ve got here.”
Your smile grew a little wider, “Thank you! It took a little while to get it off of the ground, but I’m really proud of how it turned out.”
It was almost as if the universe wanted you to suffer. You stretched up to display yet another bow, and the ladder toppled to the ground, taking you with it! You shrieked in surprise and braced yourself for the impact with the floor.
But it never came.
Instead, you were caught in a pair of (ridiculously) muscular arms. When you looked into the arms of your hero, of course it was Sam himself. He was too handsome for his own good. The thing that stood out most to you were his deep brown eyes. And how, on the left one, was a bruise that exactly matched the one that you gave yourself this morning.
“Are you alright? That ladder must have it out for you,” joked Sam, though you could tell that he was concerned for you.
“I’m okay,” you squeaked, “thank you.”
“It’s no problem. All a part of the job.”
You nodded distractedly, still fixated on the bruise adorning his eye. He couldn’t be your soulmate, could he?
“Are you sure you’re okay?” he questioned.
“I-yes. I just got a bit, well, distracted.”
“By what?”
Well, it was now or never. You might as well just go for it.
“When did you get that bruise?”
He looked a bit surprised by the question, “The one on my eye?”
You nodded.
“This morning. It just popped up. Hurt a little bit, like something hit me in the face. Can’t be worse than what I’ve given my soulmate, though. I got stabbed in the stomach once and all I could think about was how confused and hurt they must’ve been,” came his reply.
It was him. It had to be! All of your random, serious injuries made so much more sense now.
“It did hurt,” you murmured back, “but not as much as the hospital bill.”
His face went from apologetic to elated faster than you had ever seen, “Wait, that means it’s you?”
“I think so,” you said, “I hit myself in the eye with a cabinet door this morning, and that-” you gestured to his face, “matches mine.”
“Oh, it does!” he exclaimed.
“Are you two done over there?” complained Bucky.
Thankfully, the Winter Solider had successfully rescued your box of bows.
Sam stood you up, and you could feel the embarrassment slowly creeping over you, “Yeah. Sorry about that, guys. Promise I’m not usually that clumsy.”
“Seems like you need a new ladder,” Bucky told you.
“You don’t say,” you sassed back, prompting a laugh from Sam.
Bucky then strode off to return the fallen box to Andrew. He gave Sam a knowing look as he passed by. He wasn’t very slick, though, you totally saw him.
“Listen, since apparently we’re soulmates and all, I’d love it if I got your number. I’ll take you somewhere nice to make up for all of the times I’ve gotten you hurt,” explained Sam.
You smiled bashfully, “That sounds nice.”
He handed you his phone and you input your digits. As Sam and Bucky were in the checkout line, your phone buzzed.
Hey, gorgeous. It’s your new man.
You giggled softly and looked up at him. He gave you an exaggerated wink and launched finger guns at you, making you laugh a bit harder. You entered his number into your phone and decided to send a text back.
Looking forward to you making up for all of those broken bones.
Me too.
You knew you’d be happy with him. Whenever the universe collided in this way, it always turned out for the best. If your parents and your roommate weren’t enough proof, soon you would discover it for yourself. You couldn’t wait for all of the memories you’d make together.

Idk if this has been posted before, and judt a forewarning this is somewhat of a shit post.
But.
Kotlc characters as high school band instruments.
Music kids, help me out. Anyone else, enjoy the ride.
So first off we got Sophie. Shes quiet, but is determined to reach her goals. What im seeing here is ✨clarinet✨. Just think about it. She can play really well and does- and she squeaks (kind of a lot and she says her clarinet is going through puberty)- but she just doesnt talk very much.
Dex Dizznee? 1000% a trombone. Hes also quiet, but once you get to know him he is definitely n o t quiet. The pranks. The Lego Death Star. The Star Wars music. And he's in jazz band. Change my mind.
Biana is a flute. Shes not quiet but shes more likely to commit murder and get away with it thrn anyone else is. Shes thr gossip the life of thr party.
Tam is a trumpet. Albeit a quiet one at first, but the amount of ego (and hair gel) he has does not lie. I know your secret. I know your trying to hide something. I know you're only here for the credits.
Linh is also a flute. She and Biana can both play really high and do not hesitate to. She gets a bunch of gossip from biana but just doesnt spread it around as much.
Marella Reddek is a trumpet. Do i need- wAIT. i am wrong. The saxophone vibes..are too much. Alto by the looks of what she knows and how she uses the information. Also Marella just kinda seems like a meme lord to me (dont judge me on that). Oh and shes in jazz band as lead sax i just see it too well okay.
Fitzroy Avery Vacker you are headed straight for the saxophone section. Lead tenor and does jazz band, marching band, snd wind ensemble so he can brag. Also so he can do solos and brag about that too.
My boi Keefe is a percussion player. He can cause trouble and gets into his fair share of trouble, but he is r e a l l y good. Hes in drumcore, marching band, and iazz band just so he can play everything drum-related there is to play.
Thats all i can think of music kids tell me if im wrong this all came from the pov of a tenor sax no hate no shame on any of the instruments just my opinions please dont come for me

BNHA CONCERT BAND AU BC IM A NERD
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR REQUESTS OR HEADCANONS AKSJHD PLS ASK ME I LOVE BAND I LOVE MUSIC AND I LOVE THIS-
Izuku Midoriya:
Boy definitely plays a wind instrument. I’m assigning him clarinet
Wants to be first chair so bad, he practices so freaking much I swear
ALWAYS. IN. A. BAND. ROOM. with Iida and Uraraka. They’re always practicing
He’s so confused with music theory, please help him. He just,, WHY is it minor?? WHY IS THERE A SOLO WITH NOTHING WRITTEN?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE HAS TO IMPROVISE WITH THE CHORDS WRITTEN OVER THE BARS-
Ochako Uraraka:
ALTO SAXOPHONE-
She’s also comfortable enough to play 2nd or 3rd clarinet if needed, or even soprano saxophone
Doesn’t have her own instrument, she borrows from the school and she HATES the reeds, they’re crap. When someone gives her a good reed, she CHERISHES it.
In jazz band also! With the same instrument, but she doesn’t feel ready for solos so she’s usually 2nd or 3rd. Bro when she has to switch from swing to straight she ALWAYS forgets and it’s the band’s downfall.
Tenya Iida:
TRUMPET TRUMPET TRUMPET TRU-
And he’s one of THOSE trumpet players, by the way.
“Sir the French horns aren’t tuned” yeah, he has perfect pitch
Literally plays flight of the bumblebee as warm up. Or has his own warm up scales. Never practices right before practice though, he thinks it’s “too late” for that
Has his own trumpet, it’s silver with hints of gold/brass. Takes care of it RELIGIOUSLY.
He HATES having to blow out spit onto the floor, but dude what other choice do you have??
Momo Yaoyorozu:
Sweet angel 🥺🥺 she’s an oboe player
Definitely bought her own instrument
Sight reading MASTER. she instantly gets the key bro, it’s so rare that she forgets an incidental
Definitely leads sectionals all the time. And she does it WELL.
When people (*COUGH* BASSES*cough*) slowdown, she’ll sway to the beat in hopes that they’ll follow her
Kyoka Jirou:
Electric bass or contrabass, give her either and she’s good to go dude.
Also has perfect pitch and knows her music theory WAY more than a high school student should know. She’s a genius.
Her warm ups? Jam sessions with Hanta and Todoroki. She just shouts a key and they go. It’s usually jazz, she plays a pretty constant pattern, Todoroki tries to improvise but hanta takes over pretty quick-
Definitely in jazz band as well. Also in a school competition band (like singer and stuff), also a one-woman-band. She’s in so many bands dude.
Shouto Todoroki:
TENOR SAXOPHONE
Also has a background in flute bc his parents wanted him to have ~versatility~
Knows all the theory in his head, like he knows what’s going on, he just doesn’t know how to explain it
*false note* “sorry my instrument isn’t warmed up, it’s probably my reed”
Has plastic reeds. And reeds ESPECIALLY for jazz.
Oh yeah he’s in jazz band! Loves that he’s like, the only tenor saxophone so he gets all the solos
Rikidou Satou:
TUBA PLAYER IN DA HOUUUSSEEE
Buddy actually brings the tuba home to practice, he drags that thing AROUND.
Always. Slows. Down. But no one knows it’s his fault most of the time, they blame Sero-
Firmly believes in the “basses are the foundation of the orchestra” mindset, he’s so proud to be a bass
Kouji Kouda:
Soprano Saxophone, but can also handle clarinet if the need comes (he just loves the sound of soprano sax you guys)
DEFINITELY in jazz band, but as a Tenor Sax 2 bc he knows if he went as a soprano sax he probably would’ve gotten solos
Is it Momo’s oboe?? Is it Kouda’s soprano sax?? No one knows the different except those two and Jirou
Plays Shostakovich’s jazz suite no. 2 as a warm up
DEFINITELY A SWAYER. He just gets into the mood of the music and SWAYS.
Tooru Hagakure:
Flautist!! She chose it as an 11 y/o bc it was a girly instrument but she really likes it lol
A mediocre player, she spends most of warm up with Mina tho, she thinks that she’ll get to warm up when she’s playing bc I mean— no one hears the flutes
Wanted to main the picolo for the sole purpose that it’s an Ear Destroyer. Aizawa heard the mischief in her voice and said no.
Sight reading?? What’s that?? She has no idea what’s going on, she just pretends to play and when she’s comfortable with the melody, she’ll just step in. NEVER notices key changes and signatures.
Yuuga Aoyama:
LASKHDSJ FLAUTIST!! Also clarinetist. He loves being able to stay where he is during practice even though he changes instruments it’s sort of funny
His cheeks get SO SORE when he plays clarinet though and he WILL complain.
“My flute is so heavy!” Kind of guy.
Definitely has his own instruments and takes GREAT care of them.
Wetting his reed with his saliva?? No, he plops it in a glass of water instead (the reeds are definitely his own, and expensive)
Tsuyu Asui:
Trombone gang bro.
Positions are burnt into her brain dude she’ll never go out of tune.
SO SMOOTH. SOOOO SMOOO- dude she plays so well?? It’s never spitty, but during jazz (yes she’s in jazz), if it’s a moody piece she KNOWS how to make it juuussssttt airy enough to be beautiful
Not that good with fast songs, but she makes up for her amazing ass vibrato and her range. GOD-LIKE RANGE.
Mashirao Ojirou:
FRENCH HORN!!!
Omg he plays like a king. And he’s so proud of being the ONLY one playing French horn, but there is PRESSURE, because a French horn is rlly tricky to tune dude. Have you SEEN it??
Always keeps his mouthpiece with him, as if he’s afraid someone will play his instrument?? Like no dude it’s good in it’s case but you do you I guess
He doesn’t stand out that much, but in the majestic pieces where he has a 5 measure solo?? He gives it his all and he pulls it OFF. Those moments are always the highlight of the piece
Mezou Shouji:
Bass clarinet!!
Once he managed to growl through bass clarinet and literally ALL the saxophone players were jealous AS FUCK
Buddy goes to a low E♭ like it’s nothing?? And then he goes up to like a high high C and you’re sitting there like THE FUCKING RANGE-
His warmups are like, quick scales and arpeggios. Bro he’s so steady when he plays and he could play for HOURS. Sore cheeks?? Don’t know her.
He so proud of being a bass clarinetist, but when he saw an octobass clarinet?? Aizawa better order one of those for him RIGHT. NOW.
Fumikage Tokoyami:
Baritone saxophone. Also lowkey really wants to learn bassoon because it’s such an old instrument
SKSKS he and Shouji sit next to each other, Tokoyami loves to read off of Shouji’s partition and create the WORST fourths you’ll ever hear. Even Midoriya told them to shut the fuck up once
In jazz band too!! Still plays bari sax
Such,, a good,, sound. So,, meaty,, and full,, and HOT. Bari sax is HOT!!
Plays moanin’s intro as a warm up. Search up the song. It’s bomb.
He loves to figure out new sounds with his bari sax. The Too Many Zooz type of sounds
Hitoshi Shinsou:
PERCUSSIONIST. Especially loves the bells, timpani, vibraphone and marimba.
He’s in the back judging EVERYONE. It’s so great for him, he gets to stand there and cringe and no one will know
Totally able to play 4 mallets like the king he is
Surprisingly enough, he’s rlly good in music theory. Like he could probably compose or transpose something no problem
Aizawa’s favourite, of course. Will ask him to sit in front while they play and circle the parts where he thinks something sounds off
Now that we’ve talked about the NORMAL band kids, I present to you,,, the gremlin band kids
Mina Ashido:
Percussionist as well!! She loves snares but you’ll see her pick up castagnettes even if y’all are playing something like Gymnopédie no. 3 she’s a bit confused but she got the spirit.
CANNOT READ SHEET MUSIC. Like notes?? No. She can do beats, just not notes. Let Shinsou figure out the ancient languages dude
Her and Hagakure don’t warm up, they just gossip together.
Did this to Bakugou more than once
SHE DROPPED SO MUCH EQUIPMENT LIKE HOW DID SHE NOT BREAK ANYTHING YET??
Denki Kaminari:
TRUMPET.
Buddy AIMS to have his spit land on someone sitting in front of him (rip Todoroki and Uraraka)
Thinks he’s cool because he plays trumpet, but he always loses count. God forbid Iida cant show up to practice because Kaminari will die
“Where are we? What are we doing? Which piece are we doing? Where are we starting?” Oh my god he’s so lost can SOMEONE please help him
Always gets in trouble during band camps dude. He and Sero are the Bad Brass duo
Eijirou Kirishima:
EUPHONIUM BABEY!! He thinks it’s so cool and he’ll get so insulted if someone calls it a “mini tuba”
DONT GIVE HIM SHEET MUSIC IN BASS CLEF HE HATES IT PLS JUST TREBLE CLEF
So!! Protective of his euphonium. His name is Johnny, by the way. He named his instrument.
When they finish practicing a piece, he’s the first to give feedback. Usually it’s good, like praises for classmates he heard and thought were really good!!
He’s so sweet. Willing to help others during practice and sectionals too!! It’s so sad that he’s literally on the other side of the room bc KAMINARI NEEDS HIS HELP-
Katsuki Bakugou:
Hehehe he’s a flautist. I’ve stood by this headcanon for like two years.
And he wants to be THE BEST. You never knew growling could be done through a flute until you met Bakugou.
CANNOT STAND slow pieces. He wants to go all out all the time, he always speeds up when the tempo’s slow.
Also in jazz band with what? Flute. Yeah, this is George Benson Time.
Will hit you with his flute if you ever think badly of him for playing flute. He’ll defend flute ‘till he dies.
Hanta Sero:
TROMBONIST!!! TROMBONE BABEY.
Will be so happy if he’s in charge of bass trombone?? Like yay??
Always wants to hit Bakugou’s head while playing.
Bro his playing style?? You know the like, lazy-ish trombone playing? But it’s just so full and smooth and heavy anyways? That type of shit.
In jazz band, he’s actually a natural at jazz, doesn’t practice that much so he’s like not even in a good position, buddy just slouches and sight reads.
I love Hanta sm guys I could talk abt trombonist!Hanta forever
