bearing in mind that I have no particular memory of almost anything I’ve written outside Miraculous Ladybug: it might be “Quis Custōdiet Ipsōs Custōdēs?”, I have definitely heard about more people crying over “Quis Custodiet”, but I think it’s actually “indelible memory”. in “Quis Custodiet”, after all, Ladybug and Chat Noir are together, having ended the threat of Hawkmoth. in “indelible memory”, Hawkmoth won and Marinette’s going to torture herself for the rest of her life.

sort of? I really wish I could figure out how to write the rest of the idea that became “Smudged Cartouche”. a lot of my problem is, “The Pharaoh” is a mid-S1 episode at the latest. so if I’m dropping a post-Dark Side of Dimensions Atem into that episode, Ladybug and Chat Noir know next to nothing about where their Miraculouses came from. and if Atem then uses his obviously-Duel-Monsters-themed akuma powers to contact/kidnap/something Yuugi-tachi, that makes Ladybug and Chat Noir by far the least informed and least experienced players on the board.

Hello!! Happy FFWF!! Is there anything in particular that you find hard to write? Are there any WIPs that you've just absolutely given up on cause you think it'll go nowhere?? (would you share a bit of it? :D)

Croisty! Happy ffw tuesday (which tbh is earlier than I thought I'd be able to do these, so be proud of me lol)

I wish I had more to go off of in my writing portfolio to answer this question, but I think the thing I have the hardest time writing/ have avoided writing in my wips is just unfettered angst or like horror/ violence. Like character death? Gore? Fight scenes? (ooooh baby I SUCK at fight scenes) all of /that/ is just not really my forte as a writer. Don't get me wrong, I am not opposed to hurting my characters, but hurt/comfort is more where its at for me. You've read my stuff, so you know how emotionally driven a lot of my writing is. I think I would have a hard time writing more graphic/ heartbreaking/ violent *stuff* in my style. Idk, it would probably be a good thing for me to practice.... but.... I don't wanna (hands on hips) sooooo I'm not planning to really do anything quite like that anytime soon.

As far as abandoned wips go, I've got plentyyyy (or just verrrrrrry dusty wips that are not quite abandoned but are sitting very patiently on the shelf waiting for me to have the time to get back to them) Violent/ angsty/ deathy/ fighty abandoned wips though? Not so much.

But for you, mon petit croissant, have a bit of a miraculous ladybug reveal fic that I wrote one night after having a little ~ouid~ and convincing my husband to put on a sheet face mask with me that I now have no intention of finishing (oops, rip me).

NIGHT OFF

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t a totally crazy idea to take a night off.

Besides, Shadowmoth’s akumatizations had slowed down considerably in the past few months, and he rarely ever sent out two akumas in one day. The battle that she and Chat had fought that morning was brutal, but they’d come out victorious against HoneyBadger. Still, the fight had left her exhausted and wound up. Shadowmoth was planning something, she was sure of it. She just couldn’t, for the life of her, figure out what it was.

Ladybug was stressed.

Add to that, the fact that end-of-term exams were starting up next week and she’d not had nearly enough time during dead week to actually cram. Something about black butterflies and cranky kwamis and a cheeky cat (who, in recent weeks, had been considerably less cheeky.) Not to mention, she had been receiving an awful lot of memes, seemingly without preamble, from Paris’ favorite male model. Nino thought it was hilarious. Alya thought it was suspicious. Marinette thought it was confusing.

Marinette was stressed.

All of it was stressful.

Alya knew when her best friend was stressed. She could usually gauge the amount of Marinette’s exasperation by the frequency with which her bangs went flying from her face, propelled by a huff and a heavy sigh. Right now, Marinette’s bangs were a mess.

“Okay, girl. You need a night off.”

“What? No, I’m fine! Really! Plus, I can’t really afford to take a night off right now, Alya… I don’t know what Shadowmoth ha—”

“Yeah, no. I’m stopping you right there. For the next twenty-four hours, this space is a Ladybug-talk free zone,” she gestured vaguely around her bedroom, which was scattered with printouts and pictures that Marinette had brought over to work on nailing down Hawkmoth’s possible location using Alya’s beloved akuma-map. “I know, I know. It pains me more than it pains you, truly. But I’m doing this for you. Tonight: you, me, drinks, distractions. You are taking a night off.”

“But Alya! What if—”

“Hush, you know that’s incredibly unlikely. And, in the event of this IF you are so set on, you know that cat boy and I will have your back. Even drunk ladybugs can purify akumas when they have the clawed crusaders on their side.”

“I can’t believe you gave in to his silly nickname.”

“It is a badass nickname and you are just jealous that we bonded.”

“I’m not jealous. I’m annoyed.”

“Mhmm… keep telling yourself that, girl. Now, back to the matter at hand: what kind of drunk do you want to get tonight? Classy or trashy? I still have that peach stuff from last month, but if we are thinking classy I might need to call in the reserves to get us some decent wine.”

“You won’t need to call in anybody, Al, because I am definitely not getting drunk tonight.”

“Night off, Marinette. Drunkenness is a prerequisite.”

“Can’t we just watch movies or something? I really don’t know if that’s too good of an idea…”

“Girl, we watch movies every night. This is a night off. Don’t think I don’t see you stressing all throughout movie night every week, anyway. You need to take your mind off Ladybug,” she gestured at the mess that had consumed her bedroom. “And get your mind back on Marinette. Superhero or no, you’re still a teenage girl who is supposed to be enjoying the last few months of college.”

Marinette pouted.

“Stop pouting. You know you deserve to have normal girl fun.”

“But Alya I—”

“No buts.” An unnervingly devious look crossed Alya’s face. “Unless it is your butt in that pair of skinny jeans that you and I both know you-know-who loves. Boys will be here in twenty. Get to it, girl.”

Marinette just gaped at her. She didn’t even notice that Alya had grabbed her phone, but alas, there was the tell-tale ping.

I think the one that made me cry the most was the spy’s goodbye. And I seem to remember crying when Fitzsimmons were at the bottom of the ocean,  and then laughing through my sobs bc the shot of Fury coming down from the helicopter, arm outstretched like Jesus was the most hilarious thing I had ever seen; but other than that? Not many.

Favorite thing about them

I was really scared that they’d just make her a Minfilia 2.0 / an excuse to revive Minfilia.. even before we met Ryne, when they were talking about her backstory and the backstory of previous oracles I thought that it was kind of messed up how these innocent girls couldn’t even live their own lives and was just... living in the shadow and name of somebody else.

Really really glad they actually addressed that and made it a big part of Ryne’s character arc and insecurities. I feel like a lot of us can identify with having to live up to expectations / being expected to be or act a certain way. And Ryne being given her own name and identity will never not be sentimental and heartwarming to me.

Least favorite thing about them

Maybe that... Eden Savage transformation? I dunno. I’m not usually very sensitive to that sorta thing but as many others have already pointed out it feels a tad forced and over sexualized. Not gonna comment any further on the matter, I’ll just say that I don’t exactly like the design of her dragon form.

Ness: (Irritated) I agree, Toon. It's one thing to try and Insult us on a daily basis, but standing here and Insulting someone who has ever rights to participate in the tournament as much as the rest of us here is crossing the line. And I'm sick of it!

Byleth: Ness, I-

Ashley: (Hair Starts to turn White in anger and irritation) You know....I was hoping to hex some fools today.....

Lucas: (Grabs Ashley's hand) Ashley, wait!.......(Turn towards the three guys with a very rare piercing glare) Let me help you on this.

Ashley: (Squeezes Lucas' hand reassuringly) You're always welcome to help me anytime, Lucas.

Popo: (Step Forth with a hammer) Don't forget about us here too, you guys.

Nana: (Follows Pursuit) Yeah. Count us in.

Hat Kid: (Step Forth while patting her parasol on the palm of her hands with a very not pleased look on her face)..........

Kids: (Turn their attention towards their Professor)

Byleth: (Took Deep Breath before speaking) Put down your weapons and calm yourselves....please. I understand that you all are doing whatever you can to look after me, but each and everyone of you should realize that violence is NEVER the answer for anything. Especially for something as trivial as this.

Ness: (Starts Looking back and forth at the Random Guys and himself before coming with the horrible realization) Oh my God....We really are becoming like them.....But even worse.....

Toon: (Starts Feeling bad) I guess we really let our anger get the best of us this time, huh?

Lucas: (Slowly Sits down while feeling terrible) Guys, I think I'm starting to feel horrible right now....

Ashley: (Kneels down and hugs Lucas reassuringly)

Ice Climbers/Hat Kid: (Put down their respective weapons while feeling guilty for what they've almost become)

Ness: (Turns towards Byleth with a very sad look) We're really sorry, professor....

Toon: Yeah....We didn't mean to embarrassed you or anything.....

Kids: We're sorry.....

Byleth: (Smiles Softly as Kneels down to her students) It's okay, my dear students. It really does means a lot to me that you would go as far as to defend my honor. The last thing I want for any of you is to let your anger and frustrations get the better of you in a situation like this.

Ness: Yeah.... (Slowly Starts to Smile) You're absolutely right, professor. We'll try to be careful next time.

Kids: Yeah.

Byleth: (Smiles Proudly at her students) Thank you for understanding, childern. I'm really proud all of you right now. (Starts Standing back up while brushing the dust off of her knees) Now then... Let's get back to the academy. Our lessons await us.

Kids: (Cheers Happily) Yeah!

Random Guy #1: (Watches as the Professor and her students starts walking away together) Man....that was even more intense than before....

Random Guy #2: No kidding...... They're even worse than their moms.....

A: Of the fanfic you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?

Hmmm I think I have to go with Blackbird right now, just because it’s what I’m currently writing and functionally that means it’s the story my brain just...lives in and loves at the moment? Once it’s finished all bets are off though, and Latchkey could very well take the number one spot again. Both of them are really near and dear to my heart and brain, because I pour so much of myself into this Tim (and Steph, too, which has been...really surprising?)

B:  What was the first fandom you read fic in?  Which was the first you wrote fic for?

I’m 99% sure it was the Iron Man fandom. Back when Avengers was just about to come out. I was sneaking visits to Wattpad and fanfiction.net to find fics about Iron Man having a daughter, lol. The first one I WROTE for was either Warriors or Gregor the Overlander—I was at the very end of elementary school and writing self-insert Warrior Cat OCs with tragic backstories in a binder, and a fix-it for the last Gregor the Overlander book because I was sad about the ending. I didn’t even know fanfiction existed when I was writing those, though, I had never been online yet! I was just writing it for myself and my best friend.

I: How many fandoms have you written in?  Do you have a favorite?

UhhhHHHHHHH I’m going to just count all of Marvel as one fandom and so if I do that, then...nine? I think? Over the years? Not all published online though. My favorite is DC, by far, wow, this is SUCH a vibrant fandom????? I’m having more fun than I have in years, since like the tumblr heyday of Star Trek, and still probably even more than back then. I wish I’d found my way into the fandom online way sooner. I don’t know why I never did.

J:  What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?

Does hurt/comfort count as a trope?? I guess not. It’s mostly like a genre. Hm. I enjoy a lot of tropes. Found family is absolutely my favorite of all time, which is super evident if you go through my DC or Star Trek fave fics!!! I’ve written a decent amount of found family, but not necessarily on purpose until this past year. It’s what a lot of the friendships in my older writing leaned towards, but didn’t fully hit, I guess. But man do I love reading it. And all kinds of AUs, like college or a certain profession/passion. And de-aging fics, when done well. Those can be amazing. I’m also 100% always craving injury and sickfics, 24/7, I love those.

M: What’s the weirdest AU scenario you’ve ever come up with?  Did it turn into a story?

I KNOW there’s a good answer to this but I genuinely just blanked on every AU idea I have ever had in my life. If I remember I’ll come back and add it, haha!

O: What are your thoughts on people writing fanfic of your fanfic?

Yo if someone wrote fanfic of my fanfic I would straight up LOSE MY MIND????? Like is there ANY higher praise in the world? It’s crazy enough to be a regular author and have people love your story or show or whatever enough to pour heart and time and love into writing more of it, but for someone to do that for a FANFIC is even more mind blowing. That’s just....wow. Yeah if someone did that I’d probably cry for an hour and just keysmash for a few days every time I tried to respond properly with gratitude, until my brain came back online finally.

T: Any fanfic tropes you can’t stand?

I can’t do A/B/O I can’t do it I can’t I can’t I can’t even the totally platonic family dynamic ones I Cannot Do It I just run the other way. Like, if you love them then more power to you, but they freak me out more than I can understand and I don’t really care to try to understand why lol. I also absolutely can’t read any incest or like, non-con that isn’t strictly showing it as a traumatic bad thing as PART of a story, like there HAS to be a resolution somehow. I’m okay with it being part of a narrative, but it can’t just be like...voyeurism that’s super morally gray. Nope. I avoid all sexual content anyway, between past experiences and being so asexual that flirting and all sorts of references continually fly over my head. But the only thing that absolutely freaks me out irrationally is A/B/O dynamics, for whatever reason.

X: How would you categorize your fanfic reading?  Are you a voracious reader?  Do you carefully pick and choose?  Something in between?

I read it TOO MUCH I’ve been reading fanfiction every single night before bed and in a lot of my free time. It’s wonderful but the more I read fanfics the less I want to read books, and it’s really hard to explain that I AM a voracious reader still when no one...actually...sees me reading a book. I’m not about to tell my MOM that I’m reading about found families and stuff. But in terms of HOW I read, I use filters here and there to get out, like, incest and certain things, and then I’d say beyond that I’m medium selective. If something catches my eye even a little, I’ll open it in a new tab and check it out! But I don’t just read everything in a tag, and I don’t read only like, one fic per every eighty I scroll past. Just middle road. And All The TIme. Except I just...straight up RAN OUT of completed Gen fics in the Tim Drake tag on Ao3, so. I’m not sure what I’ll start clicking through next. Hm.

Y: What are your thoughts on your personal satisfaction with something you’ve written vs. the popularity of your stories?  Do you tend to be most satisfied with your most popular stories? 

I have extremely low self-esteem and confidence, and I’m very critical of my own work, so I usually end up dissatisfied with my own stories pretty fast. But since I started writing the Shutterbug series, that’s been changing a little bit—I’m a lot more confident than I used to be, because, well, I’m like? Genuinely having FUN writing for the first time in years? Nothing is really forced right now—if something is feeling forced, I just scrap it. Or I tweak it until it works ENOUGH. And I’m writing things that sound good to my own ears right now, so like? Even if no one else liked Latchkey, I’d still enjoy reading it myself, which was the whole point—I was writing it to satisfy these questions I had, and then it became a way to explore some feelings I didn’t know how to address otherwise, and it just/...snowballed. And it’s also by far the first story of mine to ever get popular, which was just. SO unexpected? Like I didn’t expect even a single comment and then suddenly a bunch of people fell in love with my silly little “what if” story, and it’s just STILL blowing my mind. I’m so, so happy it’s been able to mean something for so many people! So I only have that experience to go on, but I’m very satisfied with Latchkey because it was just...right. Not perfect! There are parts I want to rewrite, paragraphs that make me sigh, now, all kinds of little things that I itch to change, but not much. The story is what it needs to be. It’s what I needed to write, it’s apparently what a lot of people need to read, and it’s...I’m happy with it. I’m glad that it’s reaching so many hearts. So for now, I guess, yeah, I’m most satisfied with my most popular story, haha! But a few of the oneshots are so dear to my heart, too, and I don’t think there’s anything I’d do differently with them. They’re not very popular at all, compared to latchkey, but like. I love them to pieces and am super happy with how they turned out, too.

Z: Is there a story you’ve written that doesn’t seem to get much love?

Not any that I really want people to read much, at this point! I’m super embarrassed by my older writing, even the stories that I still like the CONCEPTS of. I know I shouldn’t be, because it’s decent writing, and growth is growth, and it was the best I could do at the time, and I should be kind to my past self, but like. Hey. I’m not perfect, lol. I think my Star Trek magic au would be something I’d like to get some love, if I ever pick it up again and make it go somewhere for real. I feel bad for abandoning it, because it really is cute and opens up SO many possibilities in terms of how low-key all the way up to very intense powers would alter the course or playing-out of canon events. But also I just am never going to get tired of the concept of kids getting to literally swing on sunbeams in the forest by a brook. That’s the dream, pals.

Where are you isolated?

I've been locked in a one-room, ridiculously small flat for over a month now. I was supposed to leave it next month but now I'm going to have to postpone. I'm alone with my 6 cats and 1 dog and we're all on the verge of a nervous breakdown!

What are you currently reading or watching?

I'm reading If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio but quarantine has turned me into a very slow reader, I'm afraid. It's dark academia and I've heard good things about it. I finished watching Succession a few days ago and I guess it's my new obsession at the moment because it's also filled with characters on the verge - or in the middle - of nervous breakdowns. So much neurosis in one single tv show, folks.

If you can go outside, what do you like to do during this time?

I can't really go outside much because quarantine rules are pretty strict here in Italy. Parks are also closed so my dog is very unhappy with the situation, as I live in the town centre and I can't really let her roam free. Let's say my routine activity right now is to scatter crumbs/crushed cornflakes/seeds in the area in front of my house where I take my dog out for her potty needs, because the city birds (pigeons, blackbirds, some jackdaws, sparrows) are going hungry now that cafés/bars/restaurants are closed and there are no food pieces on the streets, so I'm helping them out a little.

Any fascinating concept you're studying?

Haha, no. I thought having no choice but to stay at home would give me inspiration for self-betterment, and instead it's having the opposite effect. However, I am trying to learn how to use the Rhinoceros program so that I can maybe get a job when all of this is over.

What kind of acts of creativity/forms of art are you currently doing?

Does shitposting about Succession and thinking about writing fic while decidedly NOT writing fic count?

A song that resonates with your state of mind at the moment?

I'm in a very weird, surreal headspace right now so I guess Hello (Turn Your Radio On) works for that.

Favourite impulsive/"bad" coping technique?

I sleep a lot to avoid thinking, which in turn worsens my depression, which makes me sleep even more!

Favourite healthy/"good" coping technique?

Uhhhhhhhhhh. I've started cooking again? Which is something I've always liked doing. I don't enjoy doing it for myself only, and I prefer cooking for people, but I don't have much choice. Other than that... god, I'm really a human disaster, aren't I?

6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear?

I always thought of my sense of fashion as hippy goth with a splash of punk. So I guess out all of these I’d say boho, goth, grunge…and a little bit of tomboy when I’m outdoors I guess. 

11. what you have for breakfast on an average day?

Oh geez…I work 3rd shift at my job, so my breakfast is everyone else’s dinner. 🤣 But I usually cook either eggs, bacon, and waffles or tacos…sometimes the breakfast food BECOMES tacos. Depends on how tired I am. 😅

15. favorite book you read as a school assignment?

I remember loving Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies, Lysistrata, The Great Gatsby, and The Tempest.  

23. strange habits?

Does being a flower witch count as a strange habit? 🙈 I also have conversations with my cat, I dance around in the woods for exercise, and I like to whittle :3
