Hey, so I started writing a Landoscar 5+1 which...didn't even spiral outwardly that badly, but I hate it. I hate it enough that I never want to look at it again, and I think that if I put it down, I will never pick it back up. And both desperately want to put it down, and don't believe in continually ramming your head into the wall if something isn't working. So, into the fic graveyard it goes.
But! Instead of tossing it in the trash, never to be seen again, I am posting it here to Tumblr. Maybe someone can enjoy it.
It's supposed to be Landoscar, but it takes Lando 1800 of those prose words to show up. What's happening in that first 1.8k? Charles adopting Oscar. Alex and George are also here. Max exists, and Lando is a biter.
The whole 5+1 part is outlined, it's five different things Lando calls Oscar in a College!AU and one time Oscar gives him a nickname back. The bones are all there, but...
*ahem*
I present to you: 2.3k of pose and 1.1k of outline.
Have an experience.
[INSERT TITLE HERE]
Oscar Piastri is a regular engineering major university shut in by the time Winter semester rolls around in his first year of university.
He has one friendâLogan, his roommate, who heâd met all the way back in middle schoolâtwo different incompetent lab groups, a class with four midterms and a final, 18 hours of lecture a week, a never ending stream of assignments, a healthy addition to Monster Energyâ˘, and three humanities he has to take if he wants to graduate at all.
Oscar is taking a 300-level Principles of Marketingâhe figures it will be useful enoughâwhen he meets Charles Leclerc.
And that's when his life starts to change.
â â â
Charles is a business major, and Charles happens to be sitting next to Oscar when Professor VettelââBut please call me Sebastain, or even Seb,ââasks them to introduce themselves to the person sitting next to them.
âOscar Piastri. Iâm in engineering, mechanical, first year.â
âAh. So you are here for the credit, then? I am Charles Leclerc, second year.â
The name pings some level of familiarity deep in the back of his brain, but itâs not enough of a connection for him to follow it down any sort of rabbit hole. âPretty much, but I have to keep my GPA up to keep my scholarship, so Iâm not planning on being completely useless.â
âGood,â Charles smiles. âBecause this introduction thing is how Seb likes to assign groups of the term.â
Oscar feels like a bucket of water has been dumped on his head. âWhat?â
âI know. It is weird, but all of the professors here are. I hope we work well together. When I was in Intro to Marketing, I was stuck with George. George is nice, but he is very intense about the wrong things sometimes. We did not work well together.â
âThis class is going to be, like, last on my list of priorities,â Oscar feels the need to tell him.
But Charles just smiles again. âI figured, since you said you are an engineer. That is okay. At least I know what I am in for from the start. We will meet once a week, yes? So we have a dedicated time to work on this class, and you can ignore it the rest of the time?â
Oscar starts to protest, but a clap sounds from the front of the room. âWell. I hope you like the person sitting next to you,â Professor Vettel, Sebastian, Seb says. âBecause this is who you will be working with for the rest of the semester! Iâll give you five minutes to exchange contact information, and then weâll get started!â
Charles winks at him; heâs bad at it. âSee?â
Oscar forks over his number, and pencils in a weekly Wednesday evening library session with Charles Leclerc.
â â â
Wednesday evening quickly becomes Oscarâs favourite time of the week.
For two hours he can shut off his brain, ignore all of his coursework, and just hangout with Charles Leclerc. At least it feels like theyâre just hanging out, because whatâs actually happening is Charles is explaining to Oscar what the fuck heâs doing for their joint assignments that Oscar feels a little bit bad about putting his name on.
âItâs okay,â Charles assures him. âSebâs husband is one of the engineering profs. He knows which people in his class are eng students, and how much theyâve got on their plates.â
âWhich one?â
âNot telling.â
âRude!â
âBesides, youâre doing quality control.â
âI donât know what quality I am controlling, is the issue.â
âThat is okay.â
âIs it? Iâm going to fail the final at this rate.â
âNo you arenât.â
Oscar flops down onto the table. âYes I am.â
âBecause it is a term project.â
He looks up. âIâm not letting you do an entire term project on your own.â
âOf course you are not. We need to build a product website. I cannot code, and I know that coding is a requirement to graduate, so I will make the design document, and you will code.â
âOkay,â he says, small. âI donât want to drag your grade down because I donât know whatâs going on in this course.â
âYou wonât. I wonât let you,â Charles tells him. âYou understand the lectures, non?â
âYeah. And Iâm acing the theory quizzes.â
Charles grins. âSee? You are doing very well.â
Oscar smiles. âOkay, but what goes in a design document?â
â â â
âCharles, I know I have to be the one to do the presentation, but I canât. Iâm going to sound so stupid standing up there reading off these cards.â
âYou are not going to sound stupid. That is why we are practicing.â
âYouâre biased. You need to tell me Iâm going well so I stay calm.â
âAre you not calm?â Charles asks, tilting his head.
âI am not calm.â
âThis is you not calm?â
âYes.â
âHmm. I cannot tell. Which is good, because then no one will be able to see if you start to panic. The audience is like a snark.â
âNot helpful!â
âRight.â Charles taps his chin with this index finger. âI know! I will get George.â
âGeorge?â
âYes!â The upperclassman pulls out his phone. âIf you can present to George, you can present to anybody.â
âI thought you didnât like George?â
âI donât like working with George. He is judgy.â
âAnd you want me to present in front of him?â
âOui. He will stay quiet until you are done.â
âI hate this.â
âYou told me you would.â
George is apparently George Russell, the man Oscarâs Solid Mechanics TA, Max Verstappen, loves to draw into pointless arguments. He brings his friend Alexander âAlexâ Albonâwildlife biology major. They are both very good at quietly listening to him fumble, while keeping their expressions carefully blank.
At least George is. Alex is smiling at him in a way he knows is supposed to be comforting, but all itâs doing is making him more aware of tightness in his chest.
âAnd thatâs that.â Oscar claps his hands together, and immediately regrets it.
Charles applauds and cheers like heâs just won a race or something.
Alex claps as well.
George turns to Charles. âYouâve adopted an engineer.â
âMaybe,â Charles grins. âYou can barely tell.â
âItâs obvious.â
âNo itâs not,â Charles turns to assure Oscar. âBarely. If you werenât you, you couldnât tell.â
âI mean itâs not really far, because Iâve seen him in Maxâs office.â
Charles looks absolutely betrayed when his gaze whips towards him. âWhy are you in Maxâs office?â
âFor help?â
Charles narrows his eyes.
âHeâs my TA; solid mech.â
âWho do you like more?â
âHuh?â
âMe and Max. Who do you like more?â
Oscarâs eyes dart to Alexâs for a little help. Thereâs not much he can do, but he does manage to convey that this answer is apparently very important.
Oscar has never considered Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen against each other. They arenât exactly in the same category of people in his mind.
âYou?â
âMore confidence.â
âYou.â
âGood. Keep it that way.â Charles sits back in his seat. âDo it again. Do you have a suit? You will wear a suit to this presentation.â
Oscar is only a little scared.
âDoes Max like Oscar?â Charles asks George while they all go about packing their bags at the end of the session.
âIâd say so. You know how he pretends to be professional with the underclassmen, but when itâs just Oscar in the room heâs right back to his usual state of no decorum.â
Charles hums. âDo you do anything on Fridays, Oscar? Friday evenings?â
âCry? All of my assignments are due Friday.â
âSo you stay up all night doing them?â
âNo, that's Thursday. I fix everything Friday morning, so that Iâve got time to cry in the evening before I start next weekâs assignments on Saturday.â
Alex snorts. âNice.â
âYou are coming for drinks,â Charlest tells him. âCrying with friends is better than crying alone. I will come pick you up. Give me your address.â He holds out his phone in front of Oscarâs nose.
Oscarâs eyes dart back to Alexâs. The man looks just as befuddled as he feels, but honestly: Oscar would like more than one friend.
âWill I have to pay?â he asks.
âNon. If I tell you you have to pay you will come up with excuses to not come. I will pay. You have a class that ends at five thirty, non?â
âYes.â
âPerfect. Then I will be there at six thirty. That will give you an hour to get home, and do whatever introvert things you need to do before we go out.â
At Oscarâs expression Alex tells him, âWe also always meet up at seven.â
Which is good, because Oscar was about to tell Charles that they shouldnât change their whole schedule for him.
â â â
Oscarâs shirt is only halfway on when thereâs a knock at his door.
âIn a minute!â
âIâve got it!â Logan calls.
The door opens.
âWho are you?â he demands.
âYou are not Oscar.â
âNo. Iâm not. Who are you?â
âCharles!â Oscar gasps, running out of his room. âLogan, this is Charles. Heâs my Marketing partner. Charles, this is Logan, heâs my roommate.â
âYou never mentioned a roommate.â
âNever came up,â he says, bending down to tie his shoelaces.
âI told you about my roommates!â Charles cries.
âYou complained about your roommate to me,â he corrects.
Logan laughs. âDude, youâre supposed to share horror stories when that happens.â
Oscar furrows his brows. âBut I donât have horror stories.â
âOscar.â
âYes?â
âYour roommate answered the door eating cereal out of a frying pan.â
Oscar turns to look.
Logan shrugs.
âHave you heard of bowls?â Charles shrieks.
âAmerican,â he grins.
Oscar huffs. âHeâs joking,â he assures Charles while grabbing his coat. âWeâve run out of bowls. Logan was supposed to do the dishes tonight.â
The man in question clicks his tongue, and shoots Charles with a finger gun. âAre you going out?â
âYeah. Iâll be backâŚwhen will I be back?â
âTwo?â
âIâm not making it to two. Iâll be back at ten.â
âText me. Iâm staying in.â
âCool.â Oscar throws him a thumbs up. âShall we? Whoâs going to be there, by the way?â
âGeorge, Alex, Pierre, Esteban, Yuki, Liam, Lando, and Max is not coming.â
âPierre is your roommate?â
âOui.â
When Oscar gets to the pub, he is immediately reminded why heâs bad at making friends.
While everybody else introduced themselves with their first names only, Oscar had said: âOscar Piastri.â
Full name, full confidence.
Which was his only saving grace: the confidence. His face didnât even scrunch up in displeasure.
âNice to meet you Oscar Piastri!â Lando says.
âJust Oscar is fine.â
âBut your name is Oscar Piastri.â
âOh my god Lando,â Alex laughs. âIgnore him. He bites, but heâs harmless.â
âI thought the saying goes âhe doesnât bite,â right?â
âYeah,â George shrugs. âBut Lando does bite. Literally. Heâs a bit feral, but heâs good the first hour.â
Charles pats Oscarâs shoulder. âIâll keep you safe.â
âYouâre all making me sound like a dog. Iâm not a pet!â
âI think itâd be nice to be a pet dog. No solid mech homework.â
âIs that what weâre crying about tonight?â Alex asks.
âYep.â
Landoâs eyes light up. âYou schedule your crying?â
âIâm in mech eng.â
âOh Oscar Piastri, Iâm so sorry.â
George groans. âJust call him Oscar.â
âNo.â
Oscar laughs. He doesnât really mind. Itâs very clear that heâs just teasing. Besides, Oscar likes the way Lando says his full name: Oscar Piastri. It rolls off his tongue like itâs a single entity.
â â â
The presentation goes well, all things considered, and Oscar even manages to actually answer some of the audience questions without looking at Charles in panic first.
Itâs a miracle.
âGood job!â Charles says, clapping his shoulder as they go back to their seats. âThat was great. Iâm so proud of you.â
Oscar blushes. âStop. I feel like youâre about to give me a gold star or something.â
âI could. Do you want one?â Charles asks, way too earnestly for Oscarâs taste. âI carry some around with me. We give them to Lando when he does a good job.â
âFirst you tell me he bites, then you tell me you give him treats, are you sure heâs not the friend groupâs dog or something.â
Charles grins. âDonât let his whining confuse you, he likes it. He has a little sticker booklet, so if you are going to give him one you have to give it to him, because you put it on him it wonât be sticky anymore and it will be difficult to keep in the booklet.â
âOh my god.â
âWould you like one?â
âI donât have a booklet.â
âThat is okay. You can put it on your laptop. They are die cut vinyl; very good quality.â
âWow. Yeah Iâll have one.â
Oscarâs laptop is now the proud wearer of a smiling cartoon golden star sticker.
Itâs silly, but he loves it.
â â â
At six thirty sharp every Friday, Charles Leclerc is at his door ready to drag him off to the pub with his friends who are all slowly, but surely, also being Oscarâs friends.
He jumps when all he gets is a loud âOSCAR!â before Lando is barrelling into his side, almost sending him sprawling just outside of the peb entrance.
âHey.â
âHi.â
Oscar is not not bracing for a bite.
Not because he wants Lando to bite him, but because he likes to think theyâre friends, and apparently Lando bites his friends.
Or maybe they just told that to Oscar to scare him, and take the mick out of Lando in a single blow.
âAh! Lando!â Alex cries. âYou pest. Give me warning! You canât just bite people.â
âI gave you a whole four seconds after arriving,â Lando pouts. âThatâs plenty of warning. Not my fault you ignored it.â
âSay something,â Alex pleads, rubbing his shoulder. âYouâve gotten better at biting lightly, thank you.â
Lando brightens. âYouâre welcome!â He turns to George. âGeorge, Iâm going to bite you.â
âOh I donât like that,â Alex says. âThatâs so ominous. Nevermind. Donât say anything. But like, tap me or something.â
Lando whacks Georgeâs shoulder, and then with a âhwamâ he clamps his teeth around the other manâs shoulder.
Oscar isnât sure if he should be watching with horror or fascination.
Oscar jumps about twelve feet in the air when he hears a loud âOSCARâ shouted across the quad
Lando.
The biter.
Who didnât bite anybody last time they were out
But theyâve known each other for longer than an hour, so heâs a little bit worried
Because Charles doesnât tend to lie to him.
Lando throws himself into Oscarâs side
âWhere are you going?â
âPhysics Building.â
âUgh. Why?â
âSolid Mech. Need to talk to my TA.â
âTerrible. I think. Max likes Solid Mech, but Max is a freak.â
âVerstappen?â
âYep! Do you know him?â
âHeâs my TA.â
âFor Solid Mech?â
âYup.â
âOf course he is. He was probably grading your assignments, thatâs why he didnât come out last night.â
Oscar pales. âYouâre friends with my TA?â
âYup! Heâs a freak, but heâs cool.â
âIf heâs a freak, what are you? Iâm waiting for you to bite me.â
Lando pauses. âDo you want me to bite you, Oscar?â
âI was told you bite your friends.â
âAre we friends?â
âI dunno. Donât have many of those.â
âWell weâve got to fix that.â
Suddenly Lando is being scruffed.
âLando. Why are you about to bite my favourite student?â
âWeâre friends now. Charles brought him to the pub.â
âAh.â
âStop giving Oscar so many assignments. Cause then heâll be less stressed, and youâll be able to hangout more!â
âNot how that works. If I let you go, are you going to bite him?â
âHe literally asked for it.â
âI did.â
Max sighs. âI see why Charles took you in. Were you having trouble with the assignment?â
âThe indeterminate structures are doing my head in again.â
âThe what?â
Max hauls Lando into his office. âCome in, you. Youâre going to be Oscarâs rubber duck.â
âWhat?â he squawks. âOscar! Max just called me dumb!â
Oscar feels warm.
He has a friend.
â â â
Lando loosens up a bit more and stops pronouncing the r in his name. It shouldnât affect him as much as it does, but it practically kills Oscar.
Lando is an arts major, graphic design and photography
He sits with Oscar while he works on his assignments
Well, Lando is usually drawing or editing pictures
To Oscar it feels like not working, but Lando assures him that he is actually working
âOscah. Iâm bored.â
âIâm busy.â
âI knoooooooow. Can I take pictures of you?â
âWhat?â
âPictures? With my camera? I need to practice my human portraits stuff. Framing and shit. And how to deal with natural lighting. The lighting in here is shit, mate.â
Oscar glances at him.
âIâll be taking candid shots. Like you in your natural habitat. So I wonât even be talking. Iâll shut up!â
âWhy is that a selling point?â
âBecause youâre trying to work? I can be considerate.â
Oscar smiles. âGo for it. Might be a bit awkward though.â
âIâve got you Oscah. Iâll make you look cool even without dynamic lighting.â
âI hate dynamics.â
â â â
Osc is not made for the pub despite being an engineer
âWe are we are we are we are We are the engineers We can we can we can we can We can demolish forty beers So come so come so come so come So come along with us For we don't give a damn for any damn man who don't give a damn for usâ
Oscar has been drinking water for the past three pubs on this crawl
He runs into Max at some point
Max, who decides that itâs time to save him, and Oscar is being dragged into a booth with Charles and his friends.
âDo you think those guys are going to notice you are gone?â
âMaybe? Probably. Iâve been Loganâs introvert all night. Heâll go looking for me before everybody leaves.â
Charles gets him another water.
Oscar starts asking questions about the torsion unit.
Max laughs, and they are doing office hours again.
âThere you are! Man, I thought Iâd lost you for good. You good, man?â
âYeah! There is Charles.â He points.
Logan grins and shakes his hand. âHey. Oscarâs roommate.â
âThe messy one who eats cereal out of the frying pan?â
Logan laughs, everybody laughs. âYeah. Thatâs me. Weâre headed off to the next pubâŚâ
Lando wraps his arms around Oscarâs torso and clings. âNope. Osc is ours now. Weâre keeping him. You have fun on your crawl.â
âOsc?â Lando jolts back. His face is suddenly stricken with a worried expression. âIs that okay? Can I call you that?â
âOf course itâs okay,â Logan tells him when Oscar starts floundering. âUse protection!â he calls over his shoulder. âIâm staying at Liamâs!â
â â â
Lando comes over and finds out that Logan calls Oscar Osc and has for years.
He gets very pouty
âJust give him your own nickname,â Logan says in between bites of cereal.
âDo you not own bowls?â
âThere are two left. Figured you would want one? And Oscar has some dignity left, so frying pan for me.â
âOsco, your roommate hurts me.â
âOsco?â
âIâve decided on it.â
âOkay.â
âBut seriously, what is wrong with your roommate?â
âAmerican.â
âBro.â
âHe just called you bro.â Lando claps. âIâve never heard someone do that in real life.â
Oscar sighs.
â â â
Charles: Who is your favourite?
Oscar *panicking*: Lando
Charles *waves him away*: Obviously. Between me and Max. Who is your favourite?
Oscar *deer in headlines*: Lando
Lando: *cackles*
Max: Remember, I grade your assignments. Actually, I am grading your midterm right now.
Oscar: How am I doing?
Max: Who is your favourite?
Oscar: *pales*
Charles: I do your assignments. I will not put your name on it.
George: Thatâs not going to work. Seb knows you well enough to know that Oscar hasnât done any work all semester, and that youâre being petty.
Charles: And when Seb calls me for a meeting I will tell him how Oscar has been terrible to me, and does not deserve to coast off my work.
Oscar *panicking*: I need this class.
Charles *mouthing*: Iâm joking.
Max: Iâll tell Mark that Oscar chose me over you, and heâll tell Seb. Whoâs Seb going to believe? You? Or a story that sounds exactly like something you would do?â
Charles: *pouts*
Oscar: Lando.
Lando: Say George. Itâll piss them both off.
Oscar: Alex.
George: Oi!
Alex: Donât bring me into this!
Charles: Itâs me, right?
Oscar: Yes?
Charles: With confidence.
Oscar: Yes.
Oscar is not a nickname guy.
But Lando clearly is
Charles drags Oscar to movie night in his dorm.
Lando gets up to stretch mid-action scene
âAnybody want anything? Iâm gonna refill the popcorn.â
A chorus of nos from everybody in the room, but then Oscar finishes his drink.
âHey, Lan, actually could you get me a Monster?â
Lando freezes.
He practically trips as he runs.
He throws himself on the couch
And bite
âOw!â
âWe warned you!â
âI let my guard down. Itâs been weeks.â

very selfishly would love more of ur thoughts on oscar accommodating and mirroring lando.... as an insane landoheadTM ive been watching lando slowly match oscar's energy in the past year and its been driving me insane and ur SO right that oscars done the same thing!! kind of crazy kind of losing my mind would love to get more thoughts out of u
!!!!!!!!! hi kira i would LOVE 2 talk about this. also this answer may or may not be 2k words long
god there are so many Angles and Frameworks and Contexts through which it is possible to examine 814's dynamic that i constantly feel unhinged about it. and probably sound unhinged as wellâŚâŚ pls note that all of this is pure insanity from my insaneperson brain â ď¸ ;__; ok where to begin.
to me the thing about 814 mirroring each other is that in reality it's actually a metaphor for many different things âď¸ on one hand you can interpret it Literally as in a strictly physical senseâthe idea of mirroring someone as running parallel and positioning yourself firmly opposite each other, as constructing intricate rituals in order to NOT touch the skin of other men, being so specifically magnetically repulsed that any contact is accidental and fleeting and causes you to spring away as quickly as you'd met. but then there is also the other sense of mirroring that isâŚ.. more amorphous and conceptual, e.g. how oscar has in many ways indirectly orbited lando his entire career and how although they've only been teammates for a year now lando has technically been a primary reference point of his throughout a majority of his teens. AND what i think is so interesting about that too is that if you look back at oscar's Evolution As A Person, you could argue that he's been purely Himself As He Is Now for a very long time... yes there've been minute fluctuations in maturity and just general cringeness and muscle growth and cheek fat etc. etc. but at least outwardly in how he communicates with other people and displays his mentality / innate habits / mannerisms he's basically been his fully realized adult self since he was like 17??? which obviously cannot be said of lando norris who has grown massively in appearance and perspective and assuredness and so on from the ages of 17 to 21 to 24. yet this constantly evolving & changing your_choice_of_lorde_album Growing Pains lando has always been a sort of distant static fixed point in the future of oscar's mind⌠hmmm. that's just part of it tho
basically 814 as they are now are sooo fascinating to me because again They Do Not (Consciously) Touch but they've still very gradually managed to build off the foundations of oscar's subconscious teenage mirroring by turning it into something⌠well perhaps not quite fully intentional (and isn't that almost better in the end!!!) but certainly more self-aware and generally conscious. basically: the Negative Space of landoscar's demonstrated "affection" is where their reciprocity lies! if that makes sense.
and i guess what i'm trying to get at is that⌠on surface level, it's easy to say that 1) Oscar has always only ever been himself (generally true) and that 2) As the guy who came into f1 at 19 and was continuously expected to meet his more extroverted teammates' energies lando is the one who's habituated to experiencing marked change (also fairly true), but this still obfuscates equally important facets of their personalities: i.e. that oscar may be the more ~intellectually~ inclined of the two (which also who Cares. completely totally off-topic LOL but personal pet peeve of mine is people acting like there is a discernible difference between a-level maths and whatever private tutoring lando did after dropping out when their job title is lichrally F1 DriverâŚ?! both are negligible fractions of fractions of whatever postgrad coursework the team's Actual engineers have done!!! but anyway), my personal argument is that really oscar is so consistently himself BY having zero concept of himself. whereas landoâŚ.. actually does possess a very strong inner character and intense, at times destabilizing self-awareness but also boasts a higher eq that enables a very high capability for social camouflage.
âŚâŚ????????? this is like a 10-paragraph intro. What am i getting at.
so basically. Yes. mutual accommodationâŚâŚ. i think my main point is that despite lando's strong baseline character and idiosyncrasies and particularities and fussiness and general weirdness, He Can, when necessitated, (as long as it doesn't completely contradict his moral impulse etc. etc.) soften that edge and adapt to another person's expectationsâEven if just to maintain bearable social rapport & conversation. whereas on the other hand oscar can sometimes actually be a lot more malleable because he doesn't really hold strong conviction in much outside the few non-negotiables in his life ??? (read: racing...) like yes he's still competitive in challenges and is pedantic as shit but also he kind of just Doesn't careâŚâŚ. so basically he's the perfect fit for lando. because he DOESN'T expect anything from lando and lando DOESN'T need to camouflage himself for oscar and because oscar interprets things straight-forwardly and at face value and reads lando's intentions in good faith and honestly probably like 30% of lando's overthinking is a result of people constantly assuming the worst of him so i think on some level it's like đ đ when you're both a little weird and also weird in these little different ways but in the end those minute shifts are what make you compatible and fit you back together again ?!?!?!? as i said it's the negative space of it all.
so really landoscar are not totally "opposites attract" but they're also not identical "mctwins" or whatever because Nuance and Secret Third Thing and what's truly critical about their mirroring is basically that 1) they don't EXPECT the other person to do it 2) they don't INTENTIONALLY do it and 3) it only happens because they're intensely aware of the other person's personality and mannerisms and appearances... bref IT'S ABOUT THE CATALOGUING!! like lando saw oscar in 2023 for the first time and immediately went oh you've gotten taller? oh you have big arms now? and they can't help pointing out each other's hair and ALSO >portrait painting (gets ko'd) "do you like purple?" "...uhhhh i can do now" like WHO SAYS THAT? ANDDDDD this was after oscar had picked purple to begin with but lando was like Nooo you can't do that :/ so oscar changed even though he'd argued that he'd "already committed to it" literal moments prior. Many such cases (i'm not finding a chair anyone?). they make me feel insane.
right let me just finish up with a few more moments (if you're still reading i'm sorry) but Vocabgifset is kind of a rough overview of how, at the very beginning, i think oscar did come in with a very undefined approach to How To Be A Teammate ? and was ready to treat lando as he'd treated rob and logan and fred and whomever and maybe even reflecting the atmosphere as reserve at alpine a little bit idkâessentially more visibly abrasive and pedantic and generally annoying. Also (ahem) perhaps how he'd seen lando act around carlos and daniel before... Guy who has carlando tweets in his twitter likes. đ
but of course lando REALLYYY doesn't like being unnecessarily corrected over ultimately inconsequential things and again his demeanor is far from bombastic when it hasn't been demanded of him, so i think oscar quickly recognized that in his character and learned to just play along with what lando liked and wantedânot because he was preoccupied with lando getting annoyed at him or thought that lando was sensitive or whatever and not because he himself is a pushover because of course there is a healthy & endearing amount of push/pull to their dynamic but just because he sincerely respects lando and with that respect understood that he didn't need to "force" their dynamic when it would prosper by just being himself and more importantly letting lando be himselfâŚâŚâŚ.. Or something.
which imo is basically the basis of their current communication style: a lot of wordless meaningful looks & expressions (because they're both entirely honest people in different ways) (SEE: VIRGIN RADIO UK) (the thing Is that lando has no verbal filter but oscar is the one with 0 control of his expressions and deeply revealing permablush), oscar always folding to whatever lando says in an interview, jumping into frame and following along lando's message in the british f4 anniversary video, listening to lando's music through the walls of their driver rooms, and of course any instance of their Soft Talking Voices such as â "yeahhh you're up there" "aww (genuinely a little pleased and flustered)" and CAT 5 behind the scenes smoothie convo and oscar patiently waiting for lando to finish speaking and not wanting to enforce his presence but always being there and ready to help himâŚ.. like the worst part 2 me of the "well-represented" video is that andrea turns to lando first and tries to help him but lando is Still processing and Not listening so THEN he looks at oscar to be like um i don't know the word and that's when andrea looks back at oscar expectantly đĽ˛đđŠ!!!!!!!! what if i dyed. honestly. the category is truly just oscar being susceptible to Lando NorrisâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ i could go on.
also >RANDOM MOMENT TOTALLY NOT IMPORTANT but the yes/no challenge is so devastating on every conceivable level and yet One thing that i do not think is discussed enough! is the way oscar physically leans into lando's space on the table every time it's his turn to answer the questions and Specifically how in round 1 the media people were trying to get his attention to tell him to put the mic pack into his pocket but he was soooooooooo focused and fixated on lando's face right up until lando turned to speak to the camera that he didn't notice for like 3 minutes. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH. argh. the problem with oscar is that he's SINCERE. truly. "are you ready oscar piastri?" [zero hesitation whatsoever] "i am ready lando norris đĽ°"
of course it's not like oscar doesn't introspect whatsoever because obviously he is very capable of self-assessing when something is important by an objective measure of success (aka recognizing deficits over a lap), but relative to lando's specific brand of overthinking & online lurking habits then oscar very much does.... basically underthink??? yes he overcomplicates simple ideas by being too literal but really as a person & conscious being he's great at living in the Present and filtering out excess noise. er... i won't delve too much into the ojp Learned Behaviors of it all and why he's so charming to older people specifically but basically Wwyd if an F1 driver microdosed autisticswag? joking. mostly. but i def agree re: your tags that oscar is never actually consciously trying to be a WELL AKSHUALLY guy because it's just fundamental expressive compulsion alkdsfhaldfh.
also specifically one of my favorite tiny little 814 things OAT is when lando says something unexpected or ridiculous and oscar parrots it back all high-pitched and breathily and disbelievingly like? Girl. this is super jank but perhaps you understand....... đ
in the end it's getting asked >what have you picked up from lando and oscar saying Well everyone hmmms but not in the Special Multifaceted Uniquely Expressive way that Lando does ! whom I not only know well enough to intimately recognize this mannerism from but have also elected to mention multiple times in this interview. and at the end of the day...? maybe that's romanze
is this anything⌠idk. also i offer you the jankiest gif ever because i had to remove zbrown to fit them together (Which perhaps is also a metaphor for reaching each other Across The Distance NO PHYSICALITY REQUIRED!! ok i can't just keep saying see: [another random ass example] so i'll stop now but also see: eyebrow raise knowing smile at the end of the sim city video.) anyway why's this such another crasyinsane little moment of how they communicate with each other?! is it just me ?????????
alskfhsfd ok i'm so sorry. thank u for letting me ramble incessantly đ§Ą

THE FOXBURY FILES SEASON PREMIERE PART TWO
After getting settled in, Devin, Tori and I met up at the commons. Weâre all so excited to start our college lives.
Devin is my best friend from childhood. She also comes from a wealthy family. Both her parents are doctors. Devin is majoring in engineering, although I donât know if sheâs too focused on coursework. Sheâs ready to party.
Tori is our best friend from high school. She wants to be a teacher. She loves kids and more importantly, loves to learn. Sheâs majoring in history.
Devin: Guys, we are finally here. Blake: I know, it doesnât seem real. Iâm excited to start courses and meet new people on campus.
Tori: Can we go to the bookstore after this? I want to get my books and supplies. Devin: Boooo! Blake: You know, some of us are here to actually learn. Tori: *Laughs* Devin: Iâm here to learn⌠Iâm also here to learn about the fine specimen on campus. Tori: Donât let her fool you, she was talking to some girl before I got here. Blake: Weâve been here for literally 30 seconds, D. Devin: What???! She was cute. She gave me her simsnap. Tori: She wastes no time. Tori: Did she tell you the freshman party is being hosted at your flat? Blake: D??? Devin: Oh c'mon Blake, it will be fun. Blake: Iâm not cleaning up, you are. Devin: Deal. Blake: Iâm going to grab a refill.
I get up to grab another cup of tea. While im waiting in line, the guy in front of me drops his cup accidently.
Blake: Oh here, let me help you. Mystery guy: Iâm so clumsy, Iâm sorry. I got some on your shoes. Blake: Itâs okay. They are waterproof *laughs*
When he finally looks up at me, I freeze. Heâs the most beautiful man Iâve seen in my life.
Mystery guy Brandon: Hi, Iâm Brandon.
Blake: uh.. uh⌠hi. Iâm Blake. Brandon: Nice to meet you, Blake.
Brandon: Are you a freshman too? Blake: I am. I just finished unpacking my apartment. Brandon: Apartment? You must be loaded.
*Blake laughs nervously*
Blake: What makes you think that? Brandon: The price of foxbury flats are outrageous. If you stay in them all four years, youâll end up paying almost 50k.
Wow, heâs quick with numbers.
Blake: Iâll be honest, my dad is covering my room and board, but my tuition is completely covered by my scholarships. Brandon: Sounds nice. Oh shit, Iâm late. Brandon: I was supposed to meet up with the freshman in the biology club. Blake: Youâre majoring in biology? Brandon: Yeah, hoping to be Dr. Hartman one dayâŚ
Oh my god, heâs handsome and smartâŚ.
Brandon: I should get going, it was nice to meet you, Blake. Blake: Nice to meet you too, Brandon. Hey, we should add each other on foxusocialâŚ
Brandon: Sure, here Iâll add myself. Brandon: See you around, Blake. Blake: See you around, Brandon.
Brandon heads out and Devin is waving her arms like a maniac for me to come back to the table.
Devin: WHO THE HELL WAS THAT?! Blake: His name is Brandon. Heâs a freshman too. Tori: Heâs cute. Devin: Heâs fucking hot, oh my god. Devin: Did you get his number? Blake: We added each other on foxusocial. Devin: I hope he comes tonight. I canât believe you didnât jump on that. Blake: Calm down turbo, I just got here, and literally we just met. Devin: I want to meet him in bed. Tori: Devin. Devin: What?! Did you not see him??? Blake: Iâm not worried about a relationship right now. I finally moved on from Tre.
Devin: He was such an assholeâŚ. But my goodness was he fine. Blake: D...... Devin: Okay, okay. Iâll stop. Sorry. Just promise me youâll have fun tonight? Blake: Iâll have fun D. Tori: Weâll all have fun. But first letâs go to the bookstore. Devin: *Rolls her eyes* Blake: Of course, Tee.
Guess Iâll have to find something cute to wear tonightâŚ.

Someone mentioned about Akai Shuichi being a TA/ Akai being someone from engineering degree.
Yes. 100% Akai must've been from the STEM degree but he does not have to be in the engineering degree to pursue a doctoral degree in Japan. You just have to have a relevant master's degree for doctoral degree. (I am sure by orders of magnitude) because in Japan for you to get into doctoral/ masters studies you have to pass the entrance exam. Yes, they make you sit on an exam that is notoriously harder than PhD qualifying exam (an exam grad students need to pass before them becoming officially a PhD candidate) and then decide if you are worthy for their program or not. So he doesn't really have to come from engineering background. I have a friend who got admitted to Earth Science for their graduate school despite doing Physics for their undergrad and only took one or two geology classes. I know someone from a top Japan univ who had an engineering background and did masters in Physics -- that pure physics.
What you need to apply for doctoral program in Japan is a master degree mostly. That's because doctoral students are expected to do research therefore they are not covering courseworks anymore. Unlike US PhD program where you spend initial 1-2 year to complete courseworks needed for qualification exams and then continue the next 3-5 years researching, Japanese program makes you take that master courses, do 1 year master research, defend your thesis then you can apply for a PhD program.
Also for TA job it is not really a requirement since Japanese students pay for their tuition (except some universities -- but most universities require you to pay for that). Fundings can come from your Principal Investigator (PI) aka the faculty member that you are working for who is willing to make sure that you don't fork your own money to pay for your education or university offering a TAship but it is really optional (in my uni I only know one or two doctorate students who choose this TAship and they still have to pay for tuition).
That's why Gosho can easily make him to be a doctorate student. Afaik (again this depends on universities) doctorate students do not really attend taught classes in Japan. He can easily skip those classes.

so you wanna write a heartbreak high fic, but you're american (part 3)
I decided to create a separate post for the HSC, ATAR, uni and post-secondary study because our system is so completely different to American systems (and because my previous post was too long).
In Australia, tertiary study falls into two categories: higher education, and vocational education and training. This post will touch on university, as well as other forms of tertiary study and trades.
The uni part of this will be the longest because it tends to be the thing most people get wrong.
Preliminary/HSC
In NSW, year 11 (Preliminary) only goes for three terms. In term 4 of the calendar year in which you started year 11, you start the HSC course, which goes from term 4 of that year to term 3 of the following year. Midway through term 3, you do your trial exams (if you are doing music/drama/languages/anything with a performance/oral component/major work, you will have your practical exam/major work submission in the latter part of term 3). You then will have a graduation ceremony at the end of term 3, and your HSC exams will happen in October-November (term 4), while the kids in the grade below you are starting their HSC coursework. Nothing you do in year 11 counts towards the HSC (until term 4); in fact, nothing you do in any year up until you do your first HSC assessments counts towards your HSC. We don't have grade point averages here. Actually, your rankings in your individual subjects are probably more important than your actual marks (this video explains it). More academic kids might get a bit more competitive about rankings but also tend to want to work together to ensure that they all do well.
ATAR
After you do your HSC exams in year 12, depending on the combination of subjects you did and how well you did in your courses, you get an ATAR, which determines what courses you can get into at uni. This article explains somewhat how different subjects are scaled (because there are some that are perceived to be more difficult than others; this is objectively true in some cases, for example, advanced maths is called advanced for a reason so a higher mark in advanced should be seen as more meaningful than a higher mark in standard, but in other cases, it gets a bit more confusing). What it boils down to is certain subjects tend to attract more 'high achievers' than others, so get scaled higher. That being said, the prevailing advice is that everyone should choose the subjects they like and are good at, not what they think will get them into uni.
Higher education
Firstly, we call university "uni" here. We don't say "college" or "school" to talk specifically about university (if an Australian person is talking about going to school, they're either still in compulsory schooling, i.e. K-12, or they're a teacher). We do sooooort of have college here, but I'll touch on that later.
In Australia, kids apply for the course, not the university. Whether or not you get into the course you want is, for the most part, dependent on your ATAR. The exception is if you're applying for something like a creative arts course that might require an audition, or submission of a portfolio. Most unis offer early admission, particularly for kids who live in rural areas, and UNSW has a program for indigenous students for Business, Education, Law, Medicine, Social Work, or Science & Engineering. The most common universities you'll hear about in Sydney are USyd, UNSW, UTS, Western Sydney Uni and Macquarie, then there are ANU and UC in Canberra, LaTrobe in Albury/Wodonga, CSU in Dubbo/Bathurst/Wagga Wagga, UNE in Armidale and Newcastle Uni. There's also Notre Dame, which is a private, religious institution, and a bunch of other smaller schools.
USyd is the oldest university in NSW; it's referred to as a sandstone uni and tends to be the most sought after one that most people want to go to.
Most courses here are Commonwealth Supported, and domestic students are allowed to claim what's called HECS, meaning that you defer payment of your uni fees until you start earning a certain amount of money, and then it comes out of your taxes. In some cases, scholarships are offered, but those are generally more academic scholarships, or, say, for students studying to be teachers, they might get offered a scholarship to teach a certain school subject and as part of their scholarship get a guaranteed position at a hard-to-staff schooling area. As I said in part 2, we don't have anything like the NCAA here (it's not like the Sydney Uni basketball team has a mega rivalry with the UNSW basketball team like UNC vs Duke for example). Australian kids also don't have to pay exorbitant fees to apply for the courses they want. When I was applying to uni as a year 12 student, I paid something like $30 to UAC and applied for every arts/law course available in the Sydney area. I think there's a limit on how many courses you can apply for (maybe 16 or so) but it has been a while since I've applied for an undergrad uni course, so I could be wrong. That being said, a kid might be eligible for a scholarship if they excel at sport, but I believe they'd have to be already enrolled in the university and achieving academically at a certain level first.
Coming back to the "college" thing - a lot of kids tend to go to uni where they live and commute to and from there. That being said, sometimes kids come from towns where there are no universities, or kids from Sydney might end up going to uni interstate or to somewhere like Charles Sturt, which has campuses in Dubbo and Bathurst. "College" in Australia refers to the residential housing available to students living on campus (usually kids studying away from home, but some locals also choose to opt for this as well).
As for uni life, I'd suggest researching the different social clubs and societies different universities have.
Vocational education and training
Not everyone chooses to go to uni after they leave school. A lot of schools actually offer school-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs) in a number of different industries, which counts towards the HSC and is professional work experience. Early childhood and automotive tend to be really popular. TAFE (Australia's largest vocational education and training provider) provides a lot of courses and opportunities for people (some of the courses are actually really cool; a friend of mine did a music course through TAFE and recorded a bunch of singles).
Work experience
This isn't really related to post-secondary schooling, but is still a pretty important aspect of the NSW school experience. Usually in year 10, kids spend a week doing work experience (there's actually a plot in the original Heartbreak High series about it that Jane and Leanne from Snarkbreak High talked about). Kids generally have to organise it themselves and it's usually related to a career they'd like to have after school. My younger brother did his at our local vet, and after that, he realised he no longer wanted to be a vet.
Other resources
Wikipedia (don't let anyone tell you not to use it - it's one of the best peer-reviewed journals ever and all the info on Australian schooling there is completely legit)
NESA
Bored of Studies forum
Snarkbreak High podcast (this is run by 2 Australian teachers; I think they're from Melbourne and they're currently only doing the original series but they have some great commentary, and they've even had Scott Major, aka Peter Rivers, aka Darren's dad as a guest)
Sydney Morning Herald (they always have a ton of articles about NSW schooling)

I've been taking my Mid Year as an Engineer in Adamson University as a 1st Year to college. May I ask that if you have any advice about going through college?
First of all, congratulations.
Second, oh boy, college. The bane of my existence.
I speak as someone who had a better time as a graduate student than an undergraduate student. But I will give you tips that I used to get by in college, and should have really taken to heart when I had the chance.
First and most important, it is okay to change your major if you cannot handle the coursework or do just don't like the major. Obviously, it is good to pursue a major that has a guarantee chance of you getting a stable job in the future, but if you can't handle the coursework, then you are going get burnt out and your grades will drop. I chose a major that I ultimately despised and I could not handle the coursework and I broke down crying in the middle of many of my exams. Don't be like me, make sure you can enjoy and handle the coursework.
Two, build good connections with your professors and classmates. For a few reasons. One: your classmates and professors can help you understand the material if you cannot. Especially those really smart classmates who seem to just break the curve and ruin it for everyone else. Two: your professors can help you build connections with other professors, and their recommendations can help get you hired for an internship, job, or even a volunteering opportunity. Job and graduate school applications tend to ask for references and letters of recommendations. If you don't have any work experience just yet, those academic references can help you get a good job. Three: sometimes professors can be extremely lenient with their courses depending on the situation. If you build a connection with your professor and they know how hard you word, and you are on the boarder between a B and an A, they might just be kind enough to give you that A.
Three: If you do have to take a GRE course, try to take off a GRE course that knocks off multiple requirements. Same for the elective major courses. If you're able to complete them and get a good grade, then it will save you time and money and you'll be able to graduate faster.
Four: Have proper time management. Make sure to take proper breaks. Don't overwhelm yourself with work. If you're unable to properly finish the course, be sure to drop it before there are any charges to your account. Colleges do charge you if you drop a course right before finals. And if you do need to take a gap year, that's fine too. It's not defeat. It's just recovery.
Five: Don't feel bad if you do get a C. C's do get degree.
(If anyone else wants to add their two cents in, go for it. College can be difficult and advice from others who have gone to college would be beneficial.)

Heartstopper season 2 play-by-play analysis
Question: what is the absolute worst? Is it:
a) dating,
b) coming out,
c) parties, or
d) all of the aboveâŚ
The answer (for me) is d. And this episode has all of the above, and it was like watching a nightmare⌠(I went on a few dates, all of them painful, but I donât know if thatâs just the nature of dating or if itâs because Iâm acespec; also parties to me make absolutely no sense; also I tried coming out multiple times and itâs been the worst anxiety Iâve experienced, each time).
But letâs see how these things go for our lovely group.
EPISODE 3 - PROMISE
- I love that they did the âI know you and Charlie are really good matesâ and Otis and Sai giving him the looks, and a kissing montage playing in Nickâs head with the huge letters GOOD MATES across it. Perfection.
- Coach Singhâs whole body language after walking in on Nick and Charlie kissing. And her being protective of Nick after realizing that heâs queer. âYou donât owe them that informationâ. Itâs so reassuring for Nick to have another queer person, a queer adult, know, and for her to tell her that he doesnât have to live with that pressure, that itâs difficult and it wonât always go well, but itâs not an obligation.
- Nick and Charlie being cozy in the library. Two of my favorite things. More of that please.
- I canât tell you the giddiness I felt when I saw the Pride display and saw that there was an ACE book top and center. Also Iâm so happy that we got so much James, and how fucking giddy he is about hanging out with Isaac. Two little bookworms matching each otherâs energies.
- I love how Tao became the worst date by trying to be the best date, following the worst online advice, changing his appearance, and being so tense about everything being perfect, that he forgot about just being himself, which is precisely what Elle likes about him.
- All Charlie and Nick needed to get through their exams and coursework was to think about Paris, and being together in Paris.
- Every time Harry appears, he usually puts an arm around someone, like grabbing them, which, as Tao rightfully pointed out last season, is a hyper-masculine way of saying âI didnât get hugged much as a childâ. So imposing and annoying. Go to therapy, Harry. Stop invading peopleâs spaces, Harry. (I know the other boys do it too, like Otis did to Charlie in the first episode, and to Nick in this one, but the attitude behind it is completely different. But still, boys, stop just grabbing people like that, itâs so annoying.)
- âBut I love you because of how annoying you areâ is one of the sweetest things you will ever hear, and I felt so bad for Tara because of how Darcy reacted, literally running away from her feelings. Poor Darcy too. I think I can relate to the automatic reaction of running away from my feelings, running away from anything that was me having to be vulnerable. It gets better, and I love that in the end itâs just practice. The more you talk about your feelings, the better you become at it.
- New favorite ship unlocked: the teachers! âAre you also regretting signing up for this?â Donât worry, you wonât regret it at all by the end of itâŚ
- James being all giddy asking Isaac to the party, Iâm sorry but heâs adorable, and therefore Iâm kinda sad about how things turn out, but I hope we get more James in the future.
- The comedic performance of Mr. Ajayi failing to get everyoneâs attention in a gentle manner and Mr. Farouk having to go âQUIET!â Which in itself is so funny. (Fun fact: a teacher in Northern Ireland actually won the Guinness Book of World Records for the loudest shout, and it was her shouting âquietâ at 121 decibels, about the same as a jet engine. Mr Farouk might not be as loud, but the way he does it definitely works.)
- Darcyâs âoh dear, oh noooâ and Charlie and Nick exchanging excited looks when theyâre told that boys and girls canât share rooms is so cute. âI know, heartbreaking, isnât it?â Mr Farouk says with a raised eyebrow.
- Poor Imogen⌠she needs more girlfriends.
- Taoâs new aesthetic, as much as they made him try to look out of character, just⌠works⌠love the whole outfit, the whole vibe. He looks like heâd be in a Wes Anderson film, so itâs very appropriate that theyâre going to one.
- And Darcy going âoh duuuuhâ, just the worstâź And Charlie shouting âyour hairâs amazing!â
- I love the stark contrast between Taraâs outfit and Toriâs outfit, and I love them both.
- âLook after him or you dieâ. Aw Tori, being a good older sister. I want more Nick and Tori interactions.
- The comically large popcorns. âI hope you didnât cut it for meâ. Taoâs little laugh but then his look of terrible realization. Then his terrible attempts at being flirty. And then his whole rant about âtheyâre kids, so itâs obviously not going to last long termâ, big foreshadowing.
- Saharâs makeup and jacket, so cute. Metallic blue eyeshadow. The makeup game in this season is top notch.
- What is up with those boys pulling Charlie away? Seriously, what is this masculine impulse of throwing your arm around someone's shoulder, even when you don't know them???
- And what is up with Saiâs reaction to Nick saying âI need to talk to you guysâ? This is a lot like the party in the first season, when Nick realizes that heâs not really the partying type, and he just wants to hang out with Charlie and talk. Here he just wants to talk to his friends and tell them something, but it is like the worst moment to do it, and heâs already feeling ill about the idea of doing it, and heâs really not the big loud party type of guy.
- Tao being so pent up about this one date going wrong. Theyâre both kids, like the protagonists in Moonrise Kingdom, and they really thought that it would work out from the beginning, and theyâre upset that it didnât, and that it must mean that it will never work.
- âIâm fundamentally unlikeableâ. âI liked the old Taoâ.
- Tori is so mean in that instant, but we get that it hinges on her fear of Charlie being hurt again, being bullied again.
- After a second viewing, the only overblown comment going around Nickâs head is Tori going âyouâre bisexual, so youâre going to cheat on my brother?â (I know that the media tends to have a terrible habit of portraying bisexual characters as promiscuous, which is why Nick is such a lovely change, so I would get why this is insinuated here. But⌠not from Tori, and so far in the show, at least from my perspective, there hasnât been anyone insinuating that Nickâs bisexuality makes him unreliable or promiscuous, but especially not Tori. Unless this has to do with a deleted scene... In any case, I expected him to think of her as accusing him of letting Charlie get hurt or something). But all the other things he hears in his head are spot on.
- Charlie coming in hot and shoving Harry away, because he probably still feels bad about not helping Nick when he was confronted with his brother.
- That one-on-one scene between Joe and Olivia is peak perfect Charlie-Sara interaction. More please.
- Also, is it me, or does Sara wear a lot of yellow? She's sunshine personified. (it's curious that, one of the few times we don't see Sara in yellow, is in season 1 when she's wearing blue when Nick is telling her about the date with Imogen, and she says "don't worry, the right girl will come along", and it might just confirm my theory that light blue represents heteronormativity, but coming from a person who turns out to be supportive).
- Nick and Charlie being all cozy, and Nick tiredly saying that he enjoyed Charlie telling Harry to piss off. And Charlieâs whole talk about that weird obligation we feel to come out to friends and family the moment you realize youâre not straight. I think itâs so lovely that the comic and the show emphasize this so much, because so often in media itâs become a whole thing about how youâre supposed to come out, and for it to be this big announcement, as if otherwise you're lying to everyone if you don't, and as if everything is going to be alright from now on as soon as you come out, and as if not coming out means that youâre afraid and a coward. And I love how much this season works through that, with Coach Singh and Charlie and Sara telling Nick that he doesnât owe it to anyone. This whole season was perfect because of that.
This episode is brought to you by Date Dreadâ˘, Coming Out Anxiety⢠and Party Fear⢠(not just a Raleigh Ritchie song with which I identify way too much...)

Batch 2024 participates in 2-week off-campus internship
University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) Batch 2024 completed their 2-week off-campus internship at various sites from February 12 to 23.
Part of the Grade 12 work program is the two-week off-campus internship which aims to apply the knowledge and skills they have obtained from Kindergarten to Grade 11, to experience a real-world work environment, to understand and explore the careers they may pursue in the future, and to develop proper attitudes regarding leadership structure, employee interactions, and professionalism.
Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) Track
Grade 12 - Kalayaan, the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) track, had their work immersions at Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation, Interactive Childrenâs Literacy Program (ICLiP), M&P Creatives, and Teatrong Mulat ng Pilipinas. UP Diliman Information Office (DIO) and DZUP 1602, despite being within the UP campus, were also included as internship sites for the off-campus work immersion.
The sites offered internship tasks such as writing articles, creating scripts, designing social media posts and publicity materials, covering events, newscasting, hosting, observing and teaching classes, assisting video shoots, joining rehearsals, and participating in activities conducted by the sites.
Zaeda Wadi, a former UPDIO intern, shared some of the most important lessons she learned through her internship. âAt the UP DIO, I learned that being attentive is such a helpful asset to have! Be it in article-writing, observing during programs, interacting with others, or following instructions, having a present mind makes things clearerâand easier. I also realized that there are various activities in UP Diliman that I can participate in! It opened more doors for me to venture that can set me on new experiences as a student and community member,â she stated.
Additionally, she talked about some of the discoveries she made through UP DIO. âUP DIO staff taught me that in the hustle of life, sharing conversations and laughs makes the office life bearable and memorable! I learned from their close bond how it is always nice, even essential, to check in daily wholesome chats with people we meet at the workplace,â she shared.
Business and Entrepreneurship (BE) Track
Grade 12 - Kapayapaan, the Business and Entrepreneurship (BE) track, experienced working at Underdog Fitness PH, Revised Salon, Friuli Trattoria, Puff & Dough BakeLab, SGD Coffee, Street Kohi, Noki Japanese Fried Chicken, and Urban Chick for their off-campus internship.
Some of their work included taking orders from customers, cleaning and setting up the area, making orders and food products for the business, assisting in supply inventory, creating and designing social media posts, preparing financial reports, assisting in administrative-related tasks, and conducting market research.
Princess Tan, a former intern at Noki Japanese Fried Chicken, shared her thoughts on how different the off-campus internship is from completing regular coursework for classes. âThe real world is less structured than the system in school. The tasks we had to do werenât listed for us and werenât taught to us from the very start to end. You are expected to learn the operations as you go through the work program. Additionally, mistakes would cost you more unlike in school where youâll just get a deduction on your score,â she said.
Applied Sciences and Engineering (ASE) Track
Grade 12 - Karangalan and Karunungan, the Applied Sciences and Engineering (ASE) track, held their internship programs at Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) - Department of Information Systems and Computer Science (DISCS), ADMU - Department of Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering (ECCE), ADMU - Department of Mathematics, Buri Technologies, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), DENR - Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), DOST - Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), LCI Envi Corporation, New Era General Hospital, Smile Studio Dental, and Wilson Hobby Studio.
Some specific tasks given by the sites consisted of conducting playtests, exploring and programming with Artificial Intelligence (AI), attending workshops and seminars, testing websites, creating courses on websites, performing Test Case Documentation, listing products and packaging of companies, managing and operating with information and cybersecurity, weather research and reporting, assisting in dental-related work, input and documentation of dental procedures and prices, assisting in tech support with 2D software, 3D printing, and attending discussions and seminars held by the sites.
Enjoce Lampa, a former intern at ADMU - Department of Information Systems and Computer Science (DISCS), shared the skills he was able to develop or enhance through his experience. âThe skill I used the most during the internship was definitely my knowledge in programming. I think I already had pretty good programming [or] coding knowledge from my experiences but this internship further enhanced my skills because I was able to use it on a real project. I learned the Godot game engine and its native language, GDScript, to create our game and I think I will be using this knowledge more in the future,â he stated.
Batch 2024 is the first batch of Grade 12 students to experience separate cycles for their off-campus and on-campus internship since the pandemic. Last year, they finished their on-campus internship, which lasted from December 4 to 15. //by Mira LeaĂąo and Ria Bautista

Week 1: 25,000 steps, $2 beer, and 6 classes later
After a quick stop in London to visit a few friends, I finally made it to Prague for the start of my semester abroad. One week in, and it already feels like so much has happened. New people, places, memories, and a very different cost of living (for better and worse).
Orientation & First Impressions
My roommate Isa and I were the first to arrive in our new apartment. As our flatmates came in, we met the 6 other girls we would be sharing a space with for the semester. The next day, we had our first day of orientation at the Villa where we have school. Itâs a gorgeous building in the middle of a park that makes going to class much more appealing.
We heard lectures about culture, classes, and the city, and spent time meeting people in our IFSA program. There are 98 students in IFSA (the biggest group to date), with a majority from UM, but thereâs representation from other schools as well. I havenât gotten the chance to meet everyone yet but itâs been really fun chatting with people from all over and making new friends!
Classes
A full week of classes later and hereâs the rundown: Iâm taking 6 classes with 4 of them being 1-2 credits and my two heavier classes, Software Engineering (3 credits) and Introduction to AI (4 credits). With this coursework, Iâm able to significantly advance my degree at UM. This covers a ULCS and flex tech course, as well as lighter required EECS classes such as 496, 497, and tech comm 497. These smaller courses also come together to count for my MDE credit, which is a huge win in terms of getting ahead. Letâs just say this program is extremely helpful with completing relevant classes for the Computer Science major since youâre able to take more technical courses in one semester here versus Michigan due to their rigor. Since Iâm in the College of Engineering, all the classes will transfer as Pass/Fail, which is different for those in LSA. Hereâs my schedule (taken from my Google Calendar) along with the credits theyâre transferring over as for UM.
After the week, I have struggled a little with making it to all my classes since Iâm not very used to that as a CS major at UM. However, they are pretty strict with attendance; 4 missed classes in a 1-2 credit course or 6 in a 3-4 credit course results in a fail. So Iâve definitely had to keep that in mind when sleeping in sounds really nice or planning weekend trips. Additionally, classes leave large gaps during the day that Iâm still navigating how to best take advantage of. So far those gaps have been used for a power nap but now that Iâm more adjusted I want to take that time to walk around and explore the city more.
One last note about classes so far, Iâve really been enjoying the professors! They seem to be in touch with and relate to their students more so than profs at UM (at least the courses I take in huge lecture halls). The smaller class sizes has also made me feel more engaged and connected to the material, Iâm enjoying this kind of environment and team-building school setting.
First Look at Prague 1 with the Walking Tour
Prague 1 is the area that people think of when they think of Prague: the touristy sights, busier streets, and multitude of stores. This was my first time going to the more known areas since arriving, so I was super excited. We hit all the main spots: Charles Bridge, Astronomical Clock Tower, Old Town Square, and many more. The architecture in Prague is some of the oldest and most beautiful Iâve seen, it was one of the only cities in Europe that was preserved through many wars, so the buildings are a tell of time that cannot be seen anywhere. However, it is a little weird to see the most stunning buildings of all time be used for a McDonalds or Starbucks. Prague has so much to offer and picturesque scenes on every corner, and it was great hearing the added historical context from our guide!
After our tour, a group of us decided to walk the 49 minutes home to continue the spirit of the tour. We walked past a ton of stores and cafes I took note of to come back to. I was so tired after but got a boost of seratonin when my Health app notified me I had walked about 25,000 that day.
Getting around
On our first day, an IFSA buddy helped us get set up with tickets for the public transportation system here. We paid for a 1 month pass (~$22) and a 3 month pass (~$61) on an app called pid litacka. This may seem like a lot, but after visiting my friend in London and comparing how much is spent on transportation there, itâs a great deal. At first, I wasnât sure what exactly the pid pass covered, but after trial and error I realized it works for both the tram and subway system. The tram is the most common way to get around the city, an above ground system that has stops all over. They're very easy to navigate and the public transportation is Apple and Google Maps friendly and are very clear in their directions. To ride, you just hop on and off, they use an honor system for both methods of transportation. I havenât been asked for my ticket yet but you will get fined if caught without one. The subway stations are more spread out, but very useful when traveling to slightly farther destinations. For the most part though, Iâve enjoyed walking all over the city especially in the first week to familiarize myself as much as possible! It has been a little chilly though, in the 30s and 40s, so I use the public transportation every day. Though it is thankfully not as bad as Michigan here, it is still winter and gets cold when walking around outside for a lot of the day. Before coming to Prague I bought two sets of Uniqloâs heat tech long sleeve and leggings that have been amazing and kept me warm all day even without a super warm jacket on.
Another huge help with getting around Prague has been Bolt, Pragueâs version of Uber. I definitely recommend getting it, Iâve called a lot of Bolts in just one week (mostly on nights out) and theyâre super cheap compared to Ubers in the US!
Making our house (apartment) into a home
Iâve luckily been getting really close to my roommates and enjoying our time in the apartment! Someone does come clean (we suspect once a week but are not sure), but for the most part itâs up to us to take out the trash, wash dishes, wipe surfaces, etc. There is a washing machine and drying racks, which hasnât been the hassle I thought it would be. It also came fully furnished with a lot of dishes and kitchen appliances, chairs, tables, etc. The apartment also has a funny layout in general but especially with the bathrooms, where we have two rooms that are just a shower, one thatâs just a toilet, one with just a sink, and one with a shower and a toilet. Somehow, the layout does seem to be working out with 8 of us, so Iâm not complaining! We also started a polaroid wall and are looking for more decorations to liven up the space which Iâm excited for. Iâm sharing a room with my direct roommate Isa, but itâs super spacious and we each have our own closet, desk, night stand, and shelf space which has been great. The apartment has 3 shared bedrooms and 2 individual bedrooms, along with a kitchen, the bathroom situation I explained earlier, and a hallway with a couch that we call our living room. As Iâve been creating more memories with my roommates in the common spaces (like throwing my DJ board on a drying rack and mixing with my roommates), I can say I truly have no complaints about the apartment and am happy to live here for the rest of the semester. Attached are some pictures of our kitchen, hallway/"living room", my room from two different angles, and our growing polaroid wall.
Our building is in Prague 2 and one of the nicest neighborhoods in Prague; Iâve felt very safe on my morning runs and itâs a beautiful older building. It also seems to be the main one that IFSA students are staying in, since every unit in the building is a group of students from the program. This has definitely been nice for meeting up with others for classes and social outings. However, it is completely random and there are people living in farther apartments with less students from the program which makes it less convenient.
Food & Nightlife
Now for the fun part!! Iâve heard a lot about Pragueâs vibrant nightlife as well as great restaurants, among Czech cuisine and many others. Drinking culture is very big in the Czech Republic, especially beer. During orientation, they told us itâs part of their way of life and if youâre paying more than $4 for a beer, youâre probably getting scammed. So far, weâve had some pretty exciting nights out with the majority of the program, from dancing at popular clubs to more intimate conversations at nice cocktail bars or watching sports games at pubs and drinking beer cheaper than water. Iâve also heard about a lot of jazz bars that I would love to go to soon.
My favorite club so far has been Epic, granted itâs only been a week so I donât have many options to choose from, but I love techno music and it was a great time. Similarly, my favorite bar is dog bar, definitely a must in Prague. It has something for everyone and is a great time no matter what day of the week you go. I also like that in Prague the night can start fairly late. Iâm a bit of a night owl and preferred Madridâs late nightlife scene to Michiganâs almost-everything-closes-at-2am-vibe. Prague is a bit in the middle, which is great considering a busy class schedule.
Iâve also been eating out at restaurants a lot recently; groceries have been fine but Iâve only made pasta for dinner and eggs in the morning so restaurants it is. Iâll get better at buying groceries and cooking soon hopefully, but it has been a little harder than expected because everything is in Czech and takes a bit to make sure Iâm buying what I mean to. For now, however, my reviews on Beli have been going crazy since I got to Prague. From rating some great Czech cuisine at the Vinohradsky Parlament Restaurant to enjoying the atmosphere and smash burgers at Hoxton Burgers or trying amazing new cafes and bakeries (I have so many recommendations already), Prague has delivered on delicious food with extremely reasonable prices.
Budgeting & Finances abroad
Prague is a relatively cheap city, especially compared to more touristy cities in Europe or the United States. My daily lattes cost $3-4, and restaurants, bars, and groceries are much cheaper comparatively. However, in the nature of study abroad, there are always plans happening and forever being made. There are also really cool and enticing clothing stores and lots of vintage thrifting. So I have spent way more money than I had previously assumed for my time abroad so far, which to me has been the biggest shock. I knew Prague was a cheaper city, so I figured the increase in plans and shopping would balance it out. Well! I was very wrong but thatâs also my individual experience. The first week is also more hard-hitting than others, I think, because itâs when many people book a lot of weekend trips for the semester. So far, Iâve booked Berlin, Vienna, and St. Anton for skiing in just one week. As a result, I created a detailed spending tracker on my favorite productivity platform, Notion, that Iâm hoping will keep me more aware and on top of the financial aspect of studying abroad. Weâll see how that goes and if I succeed in budgeting better these upcoming weeks.
Thatâs all my updates for week 1 in Prague, thank you if youâve read this far! Next week Iâm excited to share more about lessons learned and places visited in Prague along with a weekend trip to Vienna.
Na shledanou,
Natalie Ramirez

Data Flow Diagram Assignment Help: Expert Guidance for Students
An important tool of system analysis and design is the data flow diagram, DFD. It represents how data move within the system, showing information flow from one process, one database, or sometimes to an external entity. Many computer science, information systems, or business analysis students are required to submit DFD assignments as part of their coursework, but creating an accurate and detailed DFD is quite challenging. That's where The Tutors Help provides expert assistance in making your assignments easier and, thus, more effective.
What Is a Data Flow Diagram (DFD)?
A Data Flow Diagram is a graphical representation that displays the flow of data within a system. It gives one an insight into the structure of a system and also into interactions among various components. DFDs are considerably applied in software engineering, database management, and business process modeling.
There are two primary types of DFDs.
Context Diagram (Level 0 DFD): Gives a general view of the system and how it interacts with the outside world.
Detailed DFDs (Level 1, Level 2, etc.): Break down the system to small components showing the internal processes and data flow within the system.
Problems That Students Encounter With DFD Assignments
Understand Symbols Used in DFDs: Use of DFD symbols involves several symbols including circles for processes, arrows to depict data flow, rectangles to refer to external entities, and open-ended rectangles as data stores. Most students always make errors regarding the symbols to be used.
System Complexity: Some exercises will require decomposing a system to more than one level that proves confusing
Logic Flow Error Issues: Student facing problems is logical flow issues on data.
Software tools: Most students make DFDs using the supports of software such as Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, or Draw.io. This becomes challenging for that student who might not be knowing how to employ these software resources.
Time Requirements: Most of the students need to complete quite a number of assignments. By having more essays, their assignments would consume their much time developing detailed DFDs.

10 Tips for Success in Online Classes at B.Tech Colleges - ACEIT
Earlier, earning a college degree meant physically attending in-person classes, which often posed challenges for working professionals or those with complicated schedules. But due to advanced technology, it is easier than ever to find a degree program that offers the flexibility you need, whether through traditional in-person classes, online learning, or a blend of the two.
There are many advantages to online courses. BTech colleges in Jaipur allow you to learn whenever, wherever, and however works best for you, making it easier to earn a degree while balancing work and family commitments. And without having to attend classes in person, online learning affords you access to top degree programs across the country that might have otherwise been inaccessible or highly inconvenient.
Online classes can present unique challenges. But if you develop skills for effective online learning, you will find the courses can be an excellent alternative to a traditional classroom setting. Online classes provide a unique set of both challenges and advantages when it comes to academic coursework. There are some challenges of online learning as well as provide you with tips to help improve your chances of success in online classes.
Tip 1 â Get organized
When you enroll in online courses you are responsible for yourself. There is no one to personally remind you about assignments and tests. To combat this lack of informal reminders, it is important for the students of engineering colleges to get organized and create a system to remind yourself of your daily tasks. In online classes, course work is mapped out in advance, so make sure to keep track of when assignments are due and how much time you need for reading or other work related to the course. Setting aside time each week to focus on your work will help you keep a regular schedule and avoid any last-minute scrambles.
You can set reminders on your phone and would schedule time each day to check the discussion boards and email to ensure kept up with everything.
Tip 2 - Finish discussion posts early
A good portion of online class participation is from weekly discussion posts. While it may be tempting to treat these discussion posts as an assignment and not complete them until the last minute, your class experience might suffer. Instead, students of private engineering colleges in Jaipur should try to get their discussion posts completed as soon as possible and become an active participant in class. Some of the most valuable learning experiences come from viewing a subject from another perspective and using that to challenge your own views. If you get a discussion post up early, you are more likely to get responses and that lends itself to a more in-depth discussion of a topic. These discussions can be really eye-opening and spark a lot of curiosity so it is important to not wait until the last minute to submit your post.
Tip 3 â Ask questions
In an online class of engineering colleges, do not hesitate to ask questions if you are struggling with a subject. It is true this applies to any class, traditional or online, but in an online class you cannot sit back and hope someone else in the room asks the question for you. Being proactive with questions will not only give instructors time to respond but also prevent that uncertainty from snowballing into a bigger problem. Sometimes something that may seem like a minor detail in one lesson will get built on substantially in future lessons.
In online classes students tend to feel anonymous and afraid to ask questions because they assume everyone else understands the subject and they are the only one who does not. You have to change your mind set and not be afraid to ask questions. It is likely most of the class is asking the same questions and ask a lot of questions since it shows that students are engaged.
Tip 4 â Try not to procrastinate
Sometimes with a busy schedule procrastination is unavoidable, but waiting until the day an assignment is due to get started can be a recipe for disaster. When students of BTech colleges schedule your week, try to put aside more than one block of time in advance for larger assignments. Even if you do not get as much done as you would like in the earlier scheduled work times, putting a dent into an assignment ahead of time makes for a much less stressful due date. Also, if you finish an assignment early you have a chance to comfortably review your work and catch mistakes that otherwise would slip by if you were rushed.
Tip 5 â Get ahead of schedule
Online classes at best engineering colleges in Jaipur are appealing to students who are working full time; however, it can be challenging to get motivated to do schoolwork after a long day at work. One way to avoid this motivational drain is to get work done ahead of schedule. Assignments for the week are typically posted the weekend before they are due, so the opportunity is there for you to get the majority of your work for the week done in advance. This helps to keep the stress of the work week from impacting your academic performance.
Conclusion
These tips will help you tackle even the most demanding of online classes. Whether it is asking questions or scheduling out your week, the key is to be proactive and to stay engaged. A little bit of effort can go a long way toward success in online courses, so do not let a lack of it drag you down.

What is OPT in USA? A Complete Guide to Understanding Optional Practical Training
For international students in the United States, the journey doesnât end with graduation. After completing their academic programs, many students wish to gain hands-on experience in the country before returning home. This is where OPT in usa comes into play. OPT provides a valuable opportunity for foreign students to work in the U.S. in fields related to their degree, offering both professional growth and a chance to extend their stay. What is Optional Practical Training (OPT)? Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a work authorization available to eligible international students on F-1 visas who have completed their degree programs in the U.S. It allows students to work in the United States in jobs directly related to their major area of study. OPT is designed to give students the opportunity to gain practical experience in their field, enhancing their educational experience. OPT is different from other types of work authorization because it is directly tied to your academic program. It is a temporary work option and can be used before or after graduation, depending on your eligibility and the type of OPT you apply for. Types of OPT There are two main types of OPT: 1. Pre-Completion OPT Pre-completion OPT allows students to work in the U.S. while they are still enrolled in their degree program. It can be used during breaks, part-time while school is in session, or full-time during holidays. However, there are restrictions on how much you can work: Part-time (20 hours per week) during the academic term Full-time (40 hours per week) during vacation periods or after completing coursework but before starting your thesis or dissertation Itâs important to note that any time spent working under pre-completion OPT is deducted from the total available OPT time (12 months), so itâs advisable to carefully consider when to use this option. 2. Post-Completion OPT Post-completion OPT is the most common type and allows students to work in the U.S. after graduation. This type of OPT is available for up to 12 months and must be completed within 14 months after finishing your academic program. The employment must be related to your field of study, and you must work at least 20 hours per week to maintain your status. For students who are in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), there is an additional benefit: they may be eligible for a 24-month extension of their post-completion OPT, allowing them to work for a total of 36 months. This extension provides a significant advantage for STEM graduates seeking further experience in their fields. Eligibility Criteria for OPT Not all international students are automatically eligible for OPT. To apply for OPT, you must meet certain eligibility requirements, including: F-1 Visa Status: You must be an F-1 visa holder. Completed at Least One Academic Year: You must have completed at least one full academic year of study at a U.S. college or university. Degree Program: OPT is only available to students who have completed or are completing a degree in a field related to the job they wish to pursue. Full-Time Enrollment: You must have been enrolled as a full-time student for at least one academic year prior to applying for OPT. No Previous OPT Use: If youâve already used OPT at a prior level of education (for example, a bachelorâs degree), you may not be eligible for OPT at the same or lower degree level. How to Apply for OPT The application process for OPT involves several steps, and itâs crucial to plan ahead as the process can take a few months. Hereâs a simplified overview: Consult Your Designated School Official (DSO): The first step is to meet with your DSO at your schoolâs International Student Office. They will provide guidance on the OPT application process and ensure you meet all eligibility requirements.
Submit the Form I-765: The next step is to complete and submit the Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization) to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This form must be filed no earlier than 90 days before your program completion date and no later than 60 days after graduation.
Wait for Approval: After submission, USCIS will process your application. The processing time can vary, but it typically takes about 3-5 months. During this time, itâs important to refrain from starting work until you receive your Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
Start Working: Once approved, you will receive your EAD card, which allows you to begin working in the U.S. under OPT. Be sure to only work in jobs related to your field of study and ensure that your employment remains in compliance with OPT rules.
Benefits of OPT OPT provides several key benefits for international students looking to gain experience in the U.S. These include: Real-World Experience: OPT gives you the opportunity to gain practical experience in your field of study, which is invaluable when applying for future jobs. Extended Stay in the U.S.: OPT allows you to stay in the U.S. for an extended period, giving you time to explore potential job opportunities and network with professionals in your industry. Transition to H-1B Visa: Many students use OPT as a stepping stone to apply for an H-1B visa (a non-immigrant visa for specialty occupations). If you find an employer willing to sponsor you, you can transition from OPT to an H-1B visa, which allows you to continue working in the U.S. long-term. Conclusion OPT provides international students with a fantastic opportunity to gain work experience in the U.S. and build a career after graduation. Whether youâre interested in pre-completion or post-completion OPT, understanding the eligibility requirements and application process is crucial for a successful experience. If youâre considering OPT, itâs always a good idea to consult with your DSO and an immigration attorney to ensure that you meet all requirements and make the most of this valuable opportunity.

Germany continues to be one of the most attractive destinations for international students pursuing advanced degrees, especially in engineering and technology fields. With its world-class educational institutions, cutting-edge research opportunities, and a strong focus on innovation, an MTech in Germany offers unparalleled advantages for students. For those considering this path, understanding the MTech in Germany duration and how it aligns with personal and professional goals is key to making an informed decision.
Why Choose MTech in Germany?
Germany is widely regarded for its exceptional engineering programs, particularly in fields like mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and civil engineering. But beyond the technical knowledge, MTech students in Germany also gain exposure to state-of-the-art research, industry collaborations, and hands-on experiences that set the foundation for a successful global career. Here are some compelling reasons to pursue an MTech in Germany:
1. Top Universities and Research Institutions
Germany is home to numerous prestigious institutions such as Technische Universität Mßnchen (TUM), RWTH Aachen University, and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), all of which offer excellent MTech programs. These universities focus on providing cutting-edge research opportunities and are closely tied to the tech industry, giving students direct access to global firms and projects.
2. No Tuition Fees at Public Universities
One of the most attractive features of studying in Germany is the tuition-free education at most public universities. While students do need to pay a small semester fee (which typically covers administrative costs, student services, and public transportation), the absence of high tuition fees makes Germany one of the most affordable options for pursuing higher education in engineering.
3. Work Opportunities Post-Graduation
Germany has a robust economy with a high demand for skilled engineers, particularly in sectors such as automotive, IT, and renewable energy. International MTech graduates are allowed to stay in the country for up to 18 months after graduation to search for a job. This opportunity provides ample time to secure employment, with many companies offering competitive salaries and benefits.
4. Practical Learning and Industry Exposure
German universities emphasize practical learning through internships, research projects, and collaborations with industries. These experiences help students apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, which is invaluable when entering the job market. Many universities also offer specialized programs that include close interaction with Germanyâs leading industries, ensuring that students graduate with skills highly relevant to the job market.
Understanding the MTech in Germany Duration
The MTech in Germany duration typically ranges from two to two and a half years. The duration can vary depending on the specific program, the university, and whether the student pursues it on a full-time or part-time basis. Here is a breakdown of the key phases in an MTech program in Germany:
1. Coursework (1 to 1.5 Years)
The first part of the MTech program usually consists of intensive coursework. During this period, students attend lectures, participate in seminars, and complete practical laboratory work. The courses typically cover advanced topics in engineering, such as:
Advanced materials and manufacturing
Data structures and algorithms (for computer science students)
Electrical circuits and systems
Renewable energy technologies
Students can also specialize in fields such as automotive engineering, aerospace, computer science, or civil engineering, depending on their program.
2. Thesis/Research (6 to 12 Months)
In the latter part of the MTech program, students are required to complete a masterâs thesis or a major research project. The thesis allows students to delve deeper into a specific topic within their chosen field, working closely with a faculty advisor and often with industry partners. This research phase is an essential part of the program, as it provides an opportunity for students to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in their field. The duration of the thesis can range from 6 months to a year, depending on the complexity of the research and the specific universityâs requirements.
Key Factors Affecting MTech in Germany Duration
While the typical duration for an MTech in Germany is two to two and a half years, several factors can influence the timeline:
1. Full-Time vs. Part-Time Enrollment
Most students opt for full-time enrollment, completing the program in the standard two years. However, some universities offer part-time options, especially for working professionals or international students with specific visa conditions. Part-time study may extend the duration of the program, potentially leading to a longer overall timeline.
2. Internship Opportunities
Many MTech programs in Germany offer internships or industry placements as part of the curriculum. The duration of these internships can vary, and depending on the program, students may spend anywhere from 2 to 6 months working with companies. While these internships are valuable for gaining practical experience, they can extend the total duration of the MTech program.
3. Program Specialization
Students who choose to specialize in fields like MTech in Computer Science Engineering (CSE) or MTech in Mechanical Engineering may have slightly different timelines depending on the course structure. Specialized programs often require more in-depth study and research, which can slightly increase the overall program length.
Admission Requirements for MTech in Germany
To be eligible for an MTech program in Germany, students must meet specific academic and language requirements. Below are the general admission criteria:
1. Educational Qualifications
Students must have a Bachelorâs degree (BTech or BE) in a relevant field, such as engineering or technology. A minimum GPA or percentage is required (usually around 60%-70%), although this may vary depending on the university and program.
2. Language Proficiency
Most MTech programs in Germany are taught in English, and therefore, students must demonstrate proficiency in English by providing scores from exams like TOEFL or IELTS. For students applying for programs in German, proficiency in the German language (at least B2 or C1 level) is required.
3. Additional Documents
In addition to academic transcripts and language proficiency scores, applicants may need to submit the following:
Letters of Recommendation (preferably from professors or employers)
Statement of Purpose (SOP)
Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
GRE Scores (in some cases, especially for competitive programs)
Career Prospects After MTech in Germany
