"my radio show got people killed" How???
An apology: to be totally above board I was exaggerating. The author doesn't outright say he knows people died, but he does bring it up as a possibility as in "What we did could have gotten people imprisoned or killed and it got people imprisoned for sure."
The How: So it turns out that if it's the 60's and 70's and you insist very loudly and with great credibility
that a pan-pacific Chinese church is a dangerous cult
not only does it ruin good people's reputations on THIS side of the pacific, it's very convenient for a moral purity obsessed political movement on the other side that thinks ALL non-state organizations are cults and is looking for excuses to eradicate them.

Have any of Tim's pigeon spies fallen victim to feral cats? Like, are they his number one enemy when it comes to keeping eyes in the sky? (If you answer this before you finish writing the next chapter, I'm going to wait an extra couple of days before sending the drawing of Wisp.)
Oh several- but he has trackers for their chips and usually just rebuilds them a new body after recovering it. He's made sure the new model chips are practically indistructable.
His number one enemy is actually stray bullet fire since they happen to hang close to crime scenes- idiots shooting at the sky to "show off" forgetting bullets gotta come back down.
(Im already waitin and ive been DYING to awnser)

Something something trapped kid in a pipe at a home renovation and his older brother going in to save him Eddie and saving his sisters from their parents and Eddie reconstructing his life in the aftermath of Shannon…
#something something about Eddie reconstructing his life like a home renovation after the well call - putting buck into his will - rebuilding#his life after grieving Shannon - subconsciously moving on even if he wasnt aware he was moving on#and how having this call back now is a symbol of Eddie actually being ready to move on now - not just in his subconscious mind#it’s the intertwining of Shannon and buck and the connection to Chris#I can’t articulate it well - but being trapped underground and in water and the passing of parenthood from Shannon to buck - in Eddie’s mind#as much as anything#something about an older brother being prepared to save a younger sibling by risking himself - something about Eddie sacrificing himself#for his sisters#there’s actually a lot of layers to this#something about this kid being closer to the surface than Hayden was - something about Eddie being closer to the surface - closer to#figuring himself out - figuring out how to love his life on his own terms#something about construction of a home and construction on sunset and construction and Eddie#something about Eddie trying to build something from a far with Shannon but never getting past the foundations#(Christopher)#meanwhile he’s been constructing the walls etc with buck and repairing damage#and he has reached the point where he needs to put a roof on the house so that he can start kitting it out with a kitchen etc#the roof is Eddie’s figuring himself out - his queerness and embracing his love for buck#kitting it out is them furnishing a life together#I don’t know what this rambling is - but I am feeling a certain type of way about the possibility of this trapped#kid in a pipe call and it’s connection to Eddie#911 spoilers#eddie diaz#911 abc#thinking thoughts that make no sense!#buddie

As somebody who spends a lot of time thinking about media in the metatextual sense and also in the...I guess metacognitive? sense, I see how the bingeing phenomenon has just broken people's ability to enjoy long-form episodic serial storytelling. That ability to sit in an incomplete moment and just not know what's going to happen; to, yes, interpret what you've seen and theorise about what you may see next without judging the whole in advance because the story isn't over yet. The artistic differentiator between serial television and other media was always its slowness, its requirement for patience, the fact that it allows, demands even, that you give it your TIME in order to reap its rewards. Media that is designed around the idea of slowness being regularly consumed at speed has broken something in the audience experience I fear. The ability to sit and think between chapters of the story, to turn ideas over in one's mind, to challenge initial perceptions and interpretations of an action, of a character, of a line, of a moment...it's all gone it feels like sometimes. All that's left is initial reactions and hot takes, never revisited, never reassessed, never reconsidered. A story becomes 'good' because it gives the right dopamine hits or 'bad' because it doesn't, or worse because it requires time and effort to parse. And that becomes The Discourse. And then it starts to feel like all your energy is spent combating the takes, whether that's happening in the public square or in your own head. It feels like you're taking psychic damage!
I returned to Tumblr after a decade away because this felt like the last place to discuss media, specifically my favourite medium of television, in a way that didn't fall into the trap. Here there are entire communities of people who also WANT to sit in the story, who also enjoy the journey, for whom the slowness of television is a feature, not a bug.
So thanks, Tumblr, for both causing me psychic damage and helping me fix it I guess?

Possibly controversial Doctor Who take: UNIT should never have been a military organization. I've always hated the idea of the Doctor becoming a stooge for human governments, and it's only gotten grosser as time's gone on... I think UNIT would be much more interesting as an independent research organization (hell, more of a glorified clubhouse full of nerds) rather than a defense taskforce.
Picture this: we start with Colonel Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, shortly after his encounter with the Second Doctor and the robotic yeti. The whole affair's opened his eyes to a much wider world than he previously thought, and he's taken an interest extraterrestrial life and technology. At first, he thinks only of how this knowledge can be used to England's advantage, but soon it turns into curiosity for its own sake and a genuine urge to learn about other worlds. When another alien creature comes to Earth, Alistair just wants to talk to them if he can. So instead of shooting them on sight like the rest of his regiment, he goes out of his way to defend the alien. Alistair is dragged in front of a court martial for it, and even though he refuses to back down--the creature wasn't threatening anybody, and even if it was, it was still a cowardly move since they outnumbered it seven to one!--he's discharged from the army in disgrace. Severely disillusioned and having done some soul-searching for why he ever worked with those bastards to begin with, he starts to seek out like-minded people. People who are both disgusted with the military and curious about worlds beyond Earth. This leads him to Liz Shaw, John Benton, Jo Grant, and maybe a couple of honest-to-God aliens who've been going about their business unbothered. Maybe the alien whose life Alistair saved decides to join in as well. Together, they pool their knowledge, funds, and resources to found their own private research base to learn about all things paranormal and/or extraterrestrial. It's not a fancy or expensive affair--they're based out of Liz's house, and there's a big hand-painted KEEP OUT sign out front--but it serves their purpose. They don't bother gathering weapons or anything like that since they want to learn about visitors to Earth, not drive them away. The government and the greater Ivory Tower scientific community thinks they're naive at best and idiotic at worst, but they're long past giving a fuck. And when the Third Doctor is unceremoniously dumped on Earth by the Time Lords, the newly-formed UNIT shelters them and offers them a position as scientific advisor. Alistair might even be able to commiserate with them on "Oh, you were strung along by a bunch of close-minded shitstains who'd rather murder something new than try to understand it? Me, too, bud, let's go get drunk about it sometime."
And thus begins a grand, regeneration-spanning saga of protecting new aliens, sabotaging the military, recruiting old companions who want to carry on the Doctor's work, and giving both the Queen and the Time Lords an industrial-grade migraine. Because they're not soldiers--they're "idiots" with some books and a screwdriver, passing through, helping out, and learning as they go.

The thing I like about the manga is that it isn't always miserable. When Vash gets tossed around like a crumpled tin can in Stampede, it kind of makes me wonder how he could possibly maintain faith in humanity. Like he's just objectively wrong. But these small moments here are what give strength to his ideology for me. Not every interaction has to end with a raising of the stakes/emotional turmoil. Vash goes through a llllllotttt, but there is actually some happiness in the world.

At sone point some years ago I started saying "I am going to be productive" ironically and I could have never imagined how much damage this made. I am still trying to repair this mess and to unlearn to say this.
Philosophers were right in a way. Semantics matters, even if it looks like it doesn't. A simple word is gonna change the chemistry of the wrinkly organ if one does not pay attention.

I don't think I've mentioned it before, at least not on this blog, but a fun Construct AU fact is that when Dialga frenzies and the red sky happens, Sabi also frenzies because she gets her power from Dialga. Even if they're child sized, an out of control Construct is not exactly a good thing, so Akari and Ingo are forced to temporarily separate her core from her body during the events of the red sky. She goes back to normal once it's all over, though!
