Funny things about being in jewish culture™
You absolutely cannot expect jews to (1) stay on a topic topic or (2) be concise. The notion of "having a topic" to talk about is merely a suggestion (apparently, this includes me)
Jewish time means you're transported into a universe where time doesn't exist. Every shul has to have a portal to a different plane of oblivion - it's as important as having the scrolls in the ark
You might only know someone by their hebrew name and consider if they will look at you weird if you call them by it outside of shul
There is a latent jewish mother hiding in everyone and that mother will arise like a sleeper agent if someone has deduced that you aren't eating enough during any potential communal meals
Why so many puns
Why are all of you as sarcastic as me...
The one person who's actually fluent in hebrew flexing their superior language comprehension (diaspora)
Celebrating having a minyan
Singing prayers to popular children's songs
It's surprisingly normal to ask about someone's bris if it comes up
There are seven people in the building, yet I thought there were twenty
#jumblr#jew by choice#jewish conversion#personal thoughts tag#meme#yes this post is made with the acknowledgement that all cultures have similarities#and that Jewish Culture™ is not ultimately unique compared to other cultures#i was raised in american protestant culture which - in my experience - is VASTLY different than my community now#you know how SHOCKED i was when my rabbi was like 'so my daughter said i was a communist when we discuss politics!'#apparently my brain thinks we wiped out the commies during the red scare (sarcasm)

Hey major shout-out to my fellow trans Jews. This year has been hell and it's hard not to feel like we've been completely abandoned, betrayed, shut out, and made unsafe across the full political spectrum.
I'm so sorry; we deserved better. I hope you're okay and standing strong - we will get through this together 🕎 🏳️⚧️ ✡️
#the right either actively or passively wants us dead or disappeared because of our genders#and the left apparently wants us dead or disappeared for being Jews#where can we go?#who can we turn to?#who can we rely on but ourselves?#it's terrifying and excruciating#I'm so tired of begging people to see me as a person#trans advocacy is so important right now and being in trans community is so vital#and yet far too many trans activists and community leaders were cheering on the deaths of my people not three weeks ago#pan-Jewish solidarity is so important right now and being in Jewish community is so important#and yet a disturbing number of the strongest voices advocating for Jewish people's humanity and right to self-determination#are also very right-wing#and refuse to see not even the truth of our lived experiences but fail entirely to see our humanity as trans people at all#so again I ask: where are we supposed to go??

So there is this post, claiming that a Japanese hotel is being review bombed, because they refused a man service for being an IDF soldier.
People ate this up of course. At the time of the writing, it has over 12,000 reblogs. Lots of people praising the hotel staff for ~taking a brave stand~ and such.
But, you know, I thought it was a little weird, that the only source the post includes is... Nothing! OP just claims it was from "an israeli group".
So, of course, I decided to do some checking.
Turns out the hotel manager had no fucking idea whether the tourist had ties to the Israeli army or not.
[...] since the hotel did not inquire about the guest's military background at the time of booking, it appeared the reservation was canceled solely based on the guest's Jewish or Israeli name. [...]
So the OP of the above post is already intentionally misrepresenting the situation by claiming the hotel was only refusing to serve Israeli soldiers. (and we don't even know if the guy was a soldier...) But twelve thousand people thought that this was legit.
Great to know twelve thousand people on this website feel that xenophobia and racial profiling are justifiable and even praiseworthy!
Ok cool cool cool cool. Yep. Just another normal day.
YnetNews is rated High Credibility by Media Bias/Fact Check.

if you ever doubt how WHITE Seattle is, know that I just did an audition for THIS ROLE
because they specifically called me in for it
#i was originally just called in to read for OTHER people at auditions. like. not to audition but to be the person reading the other part#because my friend is the casting director. but i joked to her ‘’cannot believe you called me in to read this BLACK WOMAN show’’#and she was like ‘’i just need someone with melanin! and im like girl my dad is black but not like this!!! i feel ridiculous!!!’’#and the director apparently REALLY liked me and was like ‘’why is she not auditioning??’’#and if he had asked ME i would have said ‘’because i am WHITE. SIR.‘’#but here we are!!!!!#girl my dad is black but he is PUERTO RICAN#and I am WHITE (passing)#no one looks at me and is like ‘’ooh she’s mixed’’ people look at me and are like ‘’…..jewish? filipino? greek? what is this’’#anyway i’m really like 👀👀👀 at this because like? should i turn this down if i’m offered it?#the director is black but like. surely there has to be a conversation about how fucking white i look babes#like. they’re gonna cancel me!!! they’re gonna call me rachel dolezal girl why are you doing this to me????#really truly do not know what to do about it#HOPEFULLY i just don’t get the fucking role and don’t have to worry about it

It’s been so disheartening hearing that there’s a member of my shul—a Jewish studies professor no less!—who’s been incredibly rude and disrespectful to my rabbi on social media because she thinks he’s being too “pro-Israel” and not “pro-Palestinian” enough (regardless of the fact that he has us pray for both Israeli and Gazan citizens as well as anyone else who’s been harmed by violence and disaster throughout the world, and regardless of the fact that our shul has hosted multiple peace organizations including one that had a Palestinian man and an Israeli settler rabbi talk about how they came together to work for a pro-peace organization in the West Bank). My shul, and my rabbi, is one of the most nuanced and balanced Jewish communities I’ve experienced while still acknowledging and affirming our connection to Israel (most of us have close friends, family, or are even from Israel), and yet that’s still not enough for this woman, to the point where she refuses to have a respectful conversation about it with community members and just rudely walks out whenever the rabbi talks (apparently that’s what’s been happening, though I wasn’t paying much attention to her since people often walk in and out of services). Like, whose opinion is she trying to change here? (In fact, if her goal is to get more people to agree with her, then she’s achieving quite the opposite lol wtf)
But then again she is just one person, and we had probably over a hundred people today respectfully hearing our rabbi talk about Rachel Goldberg-Polin and Hersh, whom some people in my community have a direct connection to, and when he started crying at the end, many of us were crying too.
#i don’t know exactly what’s going on with this woman but i heard this from the shul president#apparently she’s a big enough issue that he’s trying to figure out what to do wrt her rudeness#that’s apparently having a negative effect on our rabbi#ship makes a personal post#the jewish experience tag#antisemitism#(yeah bc even if it’s done by a Jewish person it’s still antisemitic)

will byers stans who “hc” jaeden mantell as will are bullshitters because they still use pictures of noah and some of them probably just want to see finn and jaeden kiss if they shipped bill and richie back in the IT days
#same with wyatt olaff#it’s weird. mike and richie are not the same person#and will belongs to noah so… cope#the byler you love wouldn’t be the same if will was played by jaeden or wyatt#and it’s pointless wondering what if because it’s not happening#you only have face claims bc you apparently hate noah#but still can stand to use pics of him and say will my baby :((#it’s bullshit#aren’t jaeden and wyatt supposed to be problematic just like finn for being friends with jdg? lol#just the visibly gay jewish kid you have an issue with. right? normal behaviour

So I learned the reason why my dad (and some other xtians) believes a rabbi has to bless things to make them kosher is because priests actually do bless things and those things become Super Special
Like, he said that the bread they get for communion is bought from a supermarket and then is blessed by the pastor, and the moment she blesses it, it cannot be tossed - it has to be used up. So somebody took the leftover Holy Bread and made a grilled cheese out of it, which is... actually, it's iconic. Imagine having Holy Grilled Cheese
#jumblr#jewish conversion#jew by choice#interfaith family#personal thoughts tag#i knew that holy water was blessed to be holy but... the wine and bread?? i had no idea#but apparently you can't dispose of baptism water down the drain but you CAN water a garden with it#or even drink it - but the baptism water they use is just tap water until it is vlessed and then it's Holy Baptism Water

I'm going to go lay in bed, scream in anxiety for a moment, and then watch TikTok.
Next Day ETA: Once again, I am not good enough. It would be nice if I'd at least been told why, though.

still thinking about rage!kyana like. the way that it didn't quite click with me unti halfway through the conversation that the rage is why she's acting like this. her rage comes out as COLD and TERRIFYING and it's just a deep sense of "i need to finish this" and the lines blurring between her doing this for her friends, and her doing it as personal catharsis for HERSELF because cressida has already been rescued. and on top of that!! the fact that this rage is what unlocked another layer of the mystery to kyana's origins? terrifying! AND LINKING THIS TO HER THREATS TO ENDELLION AT THE END OF S3???? i cant remember the specific phrasing but like "if my friends need me to be a weapon today, i'm okay with that" AAAARGH I AM CLAWING AT THE WALLS I LOVE THIS IT'S CAUSING ME IMMENSE PAIN WHAT THE FUCK. AAAAAAAAA
#the kyana angst is always just. so much.#and this isn't even getting to my own personal reasons for connecting with the whole ancestral mysteries plotline so much#maybe this is too personal for the main rwd tag. but my mum's been teaching me to read hebrew in the last month or so#and when told her mum apparently asked why i wanted to learn it. which is really interesting.#obviously i'm not going into the deep personal stuff in the main rwd tag. but you can guess why an 80 year old might have different feeling#about her jewishness to a 19 year old#anyway. me 🤝 kyana - reaching across the seemingly impossible void between us and those who came before us to better understand ourselves#rwd#rolling with difficulty#rolling with difficulty spoilers#rwd spoilers#lily dot tee ex tee

People will see the Star of David and be like "Is this Zionist propaganda?"
#are you fucking kidding me#also 'i think i'm fine with being called an antisemite now' is not something the good guys say#like if you are capable of understanding why the collective cultural treatment of muslims in the us following 9/11 + the rise of isis = bad#you should understand why treating every jewish person as culpable or guilty by association for israel's deeds is also bad#like how are you all stepping backwards on this#you people will bend over backwards to clear yourselves of guilt when the us does anything so how are you not capable of doing the same#for jewish people??#like you understand this is the attitude israel counts on right?#the more unsafe jewish people are made to feel abroad the more israel's branding as the only safe place for jews#is proven right#be angry at what is happening but dont deny that jewish people have also been faced with a uniquely shitty situation#where people they thought they were safe with are now joining neo nazis and christian radicals and white supremacists#in spreading hate and targeting them bc of an apparent bloodlust and need for retaliation#retaliating against random jewish people is not helping palestine spreading antisemitic tropes is not helping palestine#making your jewish neighbors and friends feel like you're watching them for any excuse to prove theyre one of The Bad Ones is not helping#if you can't acknowledge that jewish people outside of israel feel rightly uneasy bc all u see is 'israeli excuses and propaganda'#YOU. ARE. AN. ANTISEMITE.

not my online friend trying to have the "not all zionists" conversation with me rn
#we've talked about palestine before and she always takes the most centrist version of israel's side she possibly can lmao#i try very hard to never discuss politics with her but she is literally always the one bringing it up and it throws all my affection for he#out the window. like babe.... i'm jewish... you're not.... why are we even having this conversation besides you trying to prove smth#like an informal conversation is not the place for a fucking political debate and if you're not gonna recognize my pov#why am i even still friends with you.#it does make me genuinely sad but if i have to have this conversation again i may well and truly just block her#like she apparently has another jewish friend who seems to side heavily with zionist values (lol) but still acts like a centrist#so ik that's where she's getting the majority of her viewpoints from and it's so fucking grating like you're talking to another jew rn#why would i ever want to support nationalism of any kind when that's what lead to the fucking holocaust#why would you ever be lenient on a group of people who are actively commiting a genocide#i seriously just. like it makes me sick to my stomach that i even have someone in my life who doesn't get it#and i don't even know what to say like my 'i don't wanna be mean to a friend' shit is taking over#especially when she's not the kind of person i can just say anything to. we're not close like that unfortunately#so i've just been in limbo hoping she isn't gonna talk about it but i'm gonna have to put aside our friendship if she does this again#bc i'm not gonna be friends with someone who outright doesn't listen to me saying that my own people commiting a genocide hurts me#just because she wants to be one of those 'well this 'conflict' shouldn't be happening bc it's hurting innocent people :('#this is why i hate having any convos about this with people who haven't been politically engaged with palestine before the end of last yr#like my brother also doesn't fully get the scope of it but at least HE knows that israel (and even the concept of it) is evil and racist#sigh.

For the person who told me to be quiet in response to my post on the situation with Gaza, you know? I don't think I will.
THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT IS COMMITTING WAR CRIMES.
The Israeli people are not to blame, Jewish people are not to blame, the rank and file soldiers of the Israeli military are not to blame for the actions of the Israeli government. The Israeli government and other governments that support it shoulder 100% of the blame.
HAMAS IS A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.
The Palestinian people, Arabs, Muslims, and any other group people might relate to them are, in fact, not to blame for Hamas' actions. Hamas and any government or organization that supports them shoulder 100% of the blame.
Just to put that into nice, small, concise chunks for you.
#politics tw#israel#palestine#israel palestine conflict#The person who made that comment got themself blocked.#I don't tolerate supporters of terrorism.#But just as a nice summary for anybody else who might want to pin the blame for the slaughter of innocent civilians#on the civilians themselves...#Bombing a civilian hospital in a besieged city could not be more clearly a war crime and act of terrorism.#Literally I am making another post about this purely because I am that fucking petty.#I said what I had to say. That was apparently unacceptable to some people. That only makes me want to say it louder.#I do not support the actions of the Israeli government. Which is apparently a problem to some people.#Despite literally stating in bold fucking font that the Israeli government =/= the Jewish people.#I also don't support the actions of Hamas. So far no one has fought me on that.
