YOU HELD YOUR ARMS CLOSE TO YOU AS YOU WALKED THE PATH UP TO THE COMPANY BUILDING — Cameron Development. It was midnight on the dot and the night air was chilly. Normally, you’d be in bed by this time, tired and exhausted after running errands for Rafe Cameron all day long with little to sometimes no break. Being his assistant wasn’t exactly anyone’s dream job, but it kept your lights on.
For some reason, the man had called you into the office, saying there was an issue that was urgent and had to be handled immediately. He had an edge to his voice, one that should've been your first warning to not walk into that building.
As you skipped up the steps to the building, still hugging yourself, you pushed the door open and followed the only light that was on down the hall. His office door was cracked and you could hear him mumbling to himself. Reaching the semi-open door, you pushed it open, the wood creaking as you did so.
“Mr. Cameron?” You called quietly, spotting his tall frame hovering over his desk — palms planted firmly on the wood and hair ruffled as his eyes ran wild over the small pile of papers on the desk. Your voice broke him out of his muttering daze as his eyes slowly rose to meet yours. His movements were slow and calm, his wild eyes meeting yours.
His movements were slow and calm, until they weren’t. Within seconds, he’d crumpled up the papers in his hands and rounded his deck to tower in front of you and grab your upper arm, bringing you impossibly closer. You could see him a lot more clearly now — he was visibly strung out and angry.
You gasped at the rough contact, immediately trying to tug your arm away which only prompted the irate man to tug you closer.
“What’re you-”
“How much?” He huffed out, infuriated. His jaw was clenched tightly.
You were sure you looked lost and confused, more scared than anything. Rafe had a knack for treating his employees like shit and you were no exception to his rage now, it seemed. But you’d never been at the receiving end of his abuse until this moment. It was frightening, to put it mildly.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about-”
“How much fucking money did you steal from me?” He gritted through his teeth. You stuttered to find the right words and he took that as a sign to continue berating you. He released his grip on you to uncrumple to documents he was holding, using one hand to push you against the wall behind you as the other practically shoved the printed matter in your face. “Five-hundred and twenty-six thousand...” He started, voice rising with each word. “Five-hundred and twenty-six THOUSAND dollars. That’s how much money has been withdrawn from my company and deposited into shell companies — companies that do not fucking exist!”
You looked away from him this time. You honestly didn’t think he’d find out. Or at least find out that it was you. Five-hundred thousand was pocket change compared to what he was bringing in yearly and Rafe was careless, so you didn't think he'd notice and if he did, you assumed you'd be able to lie on the spot. Clearly, you'd misjudged both him and yourself.
He’d put you in charge of the books when it became too much paperwork for him one day and you just happened to realize that your paycheck could’ve been much higher than what it was but you knew he’d never give you a raise. You’d worked with him for almost 2 years and had never even seen the chance of a promotion. Who was Rafe Cameron to acknowledge his employees or their efforts?
It wasn't like you'd taken it all at once. It was over the last couple months that you'd misplaced the funds into shell companies and collected it at later dates for your own personal gain.
“Suddenly she’s quiet.” He taunted, throwing the papers to the floor. “Look at me,” He demanded, but you refused. He took that as a sign to grab, more like yank, your chin in his direction. “Where’s my money?”
“It’s gone, most of its gone…” You muttered with tearful eyes, speech slurred due to how he had your cheeks pressed together. You weren't lying. You'd spoiled yourself with the money. Shopping, grocery runs, furniture...
“I trusted you. You think I’d let any of those lousy, dumbasses touch my assets? No. But clearly…clearly I made a lapse in judgment with you.” He reprimanded. “You’re a damn thief.” He spat as he let go of your face, so harshly it prompted some of your hair to obstruct your field of vision.
Your heart was racing like crazy. Your hands had been clawing at the wall he had you pinned to, eyes following his pacing frame. “I can pay it back. I’ll pay it all back-”
“Oh, I know you will.”  He scoffed darkly. “But clearly, your word can’t be taken for it so, I’m going to need… collateral.” Rafe sounded much less angry now. But his tone was still clouded with an air of darkness that made the hairs of the back of your neck stand up. Suddenly, he was in front of you again, brushing a loose strand of hair behind your ear — a much softer touch compared to the previous ones.
“Take your shirt off.”
You were dumbstruck, mouth falling open at his demand.
Surely, he couldn’t be serious.
“Mr. Cameron-” You tried.
“Sir.” He corrected.
“...Sir,” You repeated, taking the hint. “I have a husband. Not to mention, you’re my boss. I’m sure there’s another way-”
“There might be...” He cut you off, the knuckle of his index finger trailing down the length of your neck as he licked his lips before speaking again. “Unfortunately for you, I want to do it my way.” He rasped. “So, take your shirt off.”
This was wrong. On so many levels was this wrong. He was your boss — your sick, deranged boss. You may be a thief but this was ludicrous. Was the terror in your eyes not enough assurance for him?
You gulped as you looked into his eyes, letting a few beats pass before moving your shaking hands to the hem of your shirt, pulling the fabric over your head and hesitating to let it drop to the hardwood floors of his office.
Rafe eyed the valley of your breasts that was revealed by your bra, a small smirk forming on his features at the sight. When one of his hands came up to cup one of them through the material, you couldn’t help but cringe slightly at the touch — it was foreign and it felt so… dirty. You wanted to just say fuck it and dash out of his office — shirtless and all. But you knew that would only cause more trouble — he’d ruin your credibility and career, destroy your marriage, and God knows what else.
So when the man used the hand that had been trailing your neck to untie your sweatpants, you stood as still as a statue and let him. The loose apparel falling easily to the ground, pooling around your ankles, leaving you half naked in front of your superior.
“I never took you for the criminal type, y’know…” He whispered into your ear. “I always thought you were so obedient. The things I thought about doing to you whenever you nod when I give you an order, watching you rush around the office in your skirts just to get whatever I need done finished…I never thought watching you do whatever I say would be so fun.” He cooed and you couldn’t help but feel trapped at this moment.
Just how long had Rafe been pining over you? You suddenly wondered if this was really collateral or just a way of getting something he’d always wanted.
Was it both?
The thought ran around in your mind as he roamed the length of your body — calloused hands outlining the curve of your ass, palm trailing over your clothed core. You didn’t even fully register when his thick fingers pushed the fabric of your panties to the side, one digit gathering the wetness that had gathered before being quickly pushed inside. You whimpered lowly at the intrusion, instinctively closing your legs but Rafe wouldn’t allow it, using his knee to hold your legs apart.
His lone finger poked and prodded at your g-spot, forcing light moans out of you that you tried your best to keep low. You hated the way your body responded to his touch — the faint squelching sound you could hear as he pumped his finger in and out of you. A lone tear rolled down your cheek, small whimpers escaping your lips before he harshly pulled his finger out of you and took a few steps back, allowing you to close your legs.
But the racing and thumping of your heart within your rib-cage didn’t stop there, tearful eyes watching as Rafe’s hands moved to his belt. The metal clanking against itself as he undid the object and abandoned it to the floor.
In one swift motion, his entire demeanor changed as he grabbed the hair on your head that he could reach, practically ripping you off of the wall that you were clinging to. You yelped as the man did so, using your tresses as a makeshift leash, pulling your body towards his desk as you struggled not to trip over your pants that were still wound around your ankles. Using his deadly grip, he shoved your face into the wooden surface, swiping papers and office supplies out of his way.
You hissed the contact, a small ache blooming on your cheek as your own hands were planted on the wood as well in awkward position due to how he had you pinned down.
The hand in your hair never left your body as it trailed down to pin you against the slab by the back of your neck instead. Your body jerked as he used his free hand to force your panties down your legs, leaving the material wound around the middle of your thighs.
You don’t even know when he found the time to pull down his own pants during his manhandling, only starting to internally panic, realizing the weight of what was happening when you felt the warmth of his tip rub against your sex. You tried to wiggle out of his grip, causing yourself more pain the more you moved.
You pleaded with him through labored sobs as your fingers clawed at his work space, leaving faint white marks in your wake. You didn’t even know what you were saying — a string of useless pleas falling on deaf ears.
Your fighting only came to an abrupt stop when you felt his dick push past your entrance, biting down on your lip as a small pinching feeling radiated from in between your legs at the unwelcome intrusion. You felt every ridge and vein as he took his time settling within you. The man behind you let out a gruff groan while the hand he’d used to guide himself inside of you moved to capture your waist, pulling you further onto him.
When he pulled his hips back only to slam back into you, you couldn’t contain the watery scream you let out. It felt like he’d punched you in the throat, fucking into you as if you weren’t a living thing. You could feel each and every time the tip of his cock would hit your cervix, the desk beneath you bruising your abdomen with each forward thrust that slammed you against the wooden fixture.
"Please! I can't-"
"Shut up." He immediately cut off your protests, voice curt and nasty. "I don't wanna hear you speak."
Nothing about his movements were pleasurable. His grip on your waist had grown tighter, so tight that his short nails were digging into your skin, feeling like miniature knives against your side. The hand on your neck followed, squeezing the nape of it until you were gasping for air between each cry and shriek.
The sound of his skin slapping against yours, the feeling of his pelvis meeting the curvature of your ass with each thrust made your chest feel tight. You hated the way you could feel yourself clenching around him, a familiar sensation building in your lower half.
Before you could even attempt to stop yourself, your hands were curling into tight fists as you came around him with a pitiful cry. But Rafe wasn’t done just yet, and you laid under him as he continued pounding into you at a borderline animalistic pace. The desk screeching against the floorboards after a particularly, brutal jolt. You were quickly becoming sensitive, the friction causing your clit to ache as a tingling sensation spreading throughout your body.
It was only a few moments before he rammed into you for the final time, his hips stilling as they pressed against your backside, the feeling of him spilling into you almost making you sick. He didn’t bother being quiet as he held you flush against him, making sure to empty himself completely with a few soft pumps into you afterwards, pulling out with not an ounce of care, eliciting a wince from you as he did so.
He roughly released both holds he’d had on you, not saying a word.
You could hear the rustling of fabric and his heavy breaths behind you as you gathered yourself mentally. You didn’t move, not an inch until you heard his voice again.
“Get up.” You sniffed. Not wanting to irritate the man any further, you used your arms to push yourself up to stand straight on shaky legs. You didn’t turn around as you carefully bent over and pulled your pants up, trying you hardest to ignore what you felt running down the inside of your thighs or the way the fabric of your underwear felt against your swollen clit.
All hopes of not having to look at the man who’d violated you were shattered as he rounded his desk to sit in front of you, planting himself in the chair as he opened the laptop that he was lucky hadn’t been thrown from the desk in the harsh turn of events.
You stood in front of him with your head down. You didn’t bother to wipe the tears from your face, fix your hair, or check for bruises that you were sure you had and would have to find some way to cover up. You just watched liked a punished child as he opened the device in front of him, typing and hyper focused on the screen. You wondered how he could be so unphased.
He was like that for a few passing moments until he’d seemingly gotten what he needed, pulling the USB drive from the side of the machine that you'd just noticed, leaning back in his chair as he fiddled with the small stick. His face was flushed red and his hair was all over the place.
“Do you know what this is?” He asked, out of breath but still managing to sound smug. You had an idea. But you hoped you were wrong. So, begrudgingly, you shook your head side to side. “It's our movie. I know it’s not the best angle because, well...” He motioned towards a corner of his office, prompting you to shift your sights in his line of sight, spotting a camera mounted in the corner, so small it was just barely visible but you knew from the placement it probably had a view of the entire space. Your heart dropped, slowly turning back to your boss to find him eyeing you with such a predatory gaze that it made you shudder.
“Don’t look so scared. No one else will see it, so long as you get my shit back.” He spat. “But I gotta admit,” He started, getting up from behind his desk and coming to stand next to you, his lips dangerously close to your ear. “Fucking you was much better than I ever imagined.”
His words had you choking back on your own saliva, swallowing harshly and refusing to look at him as you stared straight ahead with a disgusted snarl on your face. One of his hands swiped lightly across your torso as he left your personal space, opting to sit half-way perched on his desk. Fiddling and examining the memory stick like a prized possession before looking up at you with half-lidded eyes and an unsettling grin on his features before speaking.
“You can see yourself out.”
That was all you needed to hear before your feet were rushing you away from him, barely stopping to snatch your shirt up off of the floor before making a bee-line out of his office. You struggled to put your shirt on as you practically sprinted through the doors of the building so fast, you wouldn't be surprised if you had it on backwards, hot skin immediately bitten by the night air.
Your breathing never calmed as you rushed to your car, struggling to unlock the door, throwing yourself into the vehicle when you finally managed to. You sat there for a few seconds, staring ahead at the street and breathing like a mad woman before you lost all control — punching and slamming on your steering wheel, a long string of curses leaving your lips before you were bursting into tears, sleeve-covered hands coming up to cup your face as you cried into them.
You hated yourself and you hated Rafe. You had nowhere to go from here. Rafe's words made it clear that you wouldn't be quitting any time soon and what the hell were you going to do about your husband? Rafe had a full length tape of you, bent over his desk as he did what he pleased and no matter what you knew happened in that office, Rafe had Kildare in the palm of his hand.
It didn't take a genius to know that Rafe Cameron would bend that video to his very will. This whole thing made you look bad, a thief and a cheater.
Your hysterics didn’t last long when you realized that even though you were in your car, that man was still just feet away. You’d still have to see him the very next day and every day after that, but right now you just wanted to go home and you didn’t even know if you really wanted to do that — to climb into bed with your husband who had no idea what had just happened, knowing not only that your future was tainted but technically, so was his.
You didn’t waste any time in starting your car, nearly whipping into the curb at the speed at which you pulled off. Watching streetlights and stores pass by.
It wasn’t until you passed the pharmacy, bright neon red sign lit up in the dark, that you felt your stomach drop.
You’d been off birth control for months now, wanting to try for a baby with your husband.
And in the middle of the night, you found yourself praying that a loss of dignity and aching legs were the only things Rafe Cameron just sent you home with.

Despite being a man of science, raised in a family of science, Zayne sure is very familiar with religion and fortune telling
And now with him being so cryptic here, I'm starting to wonder if Dr. Zayne has access to his other selves. So far, both his myth selves have the ability to see people's futures. Maybe Dr. Zayne is able to see his own? Or at least, maybe he knows what will happen to MC outside of his medical knowledge
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He looks troubled here, more than we've ever seen before. He looks lost in thought and shakes his head while MC is talking as if he's only half listening because he's trying to decide if he should tell her what he knows
That breeze and floral scent that passes by is no doubt a sign of the Master of Fate (and possibly his MC). But this really does not help deny the thoughts that Master = Dr. Zayne
My main criticism about how Master was written is that I couldn't separate his personality completely from Zayne's. They feel incredibly similar to me to the point where Master isn't distinct enough for me to call him a complete character that stands on his own
But are they now hinting that Master and Dr. Zayne are one and the same? That their way of writing Master was intentional?
I don't want this to be the case tbh. But Zayne is extremely suspicious here, speaking as though he IS Master.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why would he go into such detail about the motives of gods when all MC said was maybe they're busy? He even takes the flower petal from her hair just like Master did in the myth. And he suggests that a god, not even plural, A god only takes one person, female, as his priority, despite the yearly rituals of sex with priestesses and gods in mythology tending to have multiple lovers?
I'm usually the one out here with conspiracy theories but this time it's Zayne himself being the source of it all
If Foreseer is able to see the memories of all Zaynes, and they're kept all in that book... maybe all Zaynes have the ability to tap into that too and see all the memories that Foreseer's wraith keeps in his garden
It could explain the voices haunting Zayne in that promotional video. The voices could also be just from his timeline alone, but none of this is confirmed yet
The only thing that saves me from drowning in this conspiracy theory is Dawnbreaker
Tumblr media
If Zayne doesn't recognize Dawnbreaker, that means he doesn't have access to memories from ALL other versions of him.
(But the fact that Dawnbreaker has the ability to see into Zayne's life might suggest that he has an easier time tapping into the other Zaynes BUT THIS IS A WHOLE OTHER CAN OF WORMS THAT I SHOULDN'T OPEN HERE)
That throws one theory out but the main one that unsettles me the most is still up in the air
Dr. Zayne being the Master of Fate is still possible and still heavily suggested. Their mannerisms are very similar. The only difference is that Master tends to smile more. But is that not just a consequence of Zayne getting used to MC's influence?
Zayne's ability to smile is still there. He's still human. But if Master lost his ability to smile when he lost MC, and he... reincarnated as Zayne?? He'd still carry those wounds but he'd learn to smile again with MC's help
Sure, Master tends to use more wind than ice, but Medic Zayne's green ice is very reminiscent of Master's powers taken shape
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, I don't know where I'm going with this
All I'm saying is that "Zayne in cosplay" might not be just a joke anymore asdflkjadklfn

The ripple effect
So finally, it would seem the news from Hollywood are not good at all. A press release from SAG-AFTRA informs us that AMPTP/TPTB chose to drop the towel after a very long negotiation process (not a good sign, in my book), that continued even after their latest unacceptable offer, as you can read down below (https://x.com/sagaftra/status/1712368110253285730?s=20):
Tumblr media
The mainstream media (always NYT, in this house) reported also on the studios' offer, which may or may not be helpful for understanding what exactly is at stake (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/12/business/media/actors-strike-talks-suspended.html?searchResultPosition=2):
Tumblr media
Now that is a very hardball, completely insolent position. I am peeling my eyes in disbelief at the idea of offering 'further protections around the use of A.I.', when it was hoped that the use of A.I. would be treated as an exception, not as future reality the industry should work 'around'. This is what really is at stake, not the almost abusive allegation of 'unbearable economic burden' (that is a mafioso pretext) an 800 million USD yearly viewership bonus would supposedly entail. The real financial impact of such a compromise solution, as disclosed by SAG-AFTRA, is negligible: 'less than 57 cents/subscriber'.
Tumblr media
And, to make things worse, it would seem the studios deliberately lied to the press, too (it would not be the first time - we shippers know it so well, eh?):
Tumblr media
All this circus, despite a cataclysmic impact on California's economy:
Tumblr media
(Sourced at: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/21/realestate/writers-strike-rent-ny-la.html).
And that was the situation three weeks ago, when I found this article and promptly set it aside, waiting for the right moment to share it with you. And you know the situation is serious, when news like these are to be found not in the business, but in the real estate section of the newspaper. Along with this kind of comments, likely to suggest the possibility of unrest, if things go on like this:
Tumblr media
People living in their flats without electricity or sleeping in their cars: it would seem this strike added unwanted insult to the drastic COVID injury in this particular sector of the labor market.
But what interested me the most about this whole affair was the ripple effect on the British film industry, in an attempt to see what is next for OL's Season 8. Thankfully, I didn't have to go very far and speculate more than the NYT did itself. Oh, and before Mordor starts shouting insanities, their LHR's correspondent paper, back in September, is called 'Hollywood Strikes Send a Chill Through Britain’s Film Industry' (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/19/business/hollywood-strikes-uk-filmmaking-industry.html):
Tumblr media
Despite my unflappable optimism, I have to say that doesn't sound good at all, especially when you know this is precisely the case for OL, a production 'with stars who are SAG-AFTRA members' (or at least compelled to stand in solidarity with the strike, by SAG-AFTRA's own statement of conduct). I predict a very late start for the shooting of Season 8. And further unrest in the UK sector 'in the middle of next year' means that UK based and staffed productions may be fewer and less important, since that calendar announced by Equity could seriously compromise their promotion, a risk not many studios are willing to take. So less alternatives for both S&C, at least for the UK alone.
The writers' strike was a very long one - five months. I suppose the studios are willing to play for time and prefer a long stalemate of the negotiations with SAG-AFTRA, in the attempt of breaking the union consensus from the inside. With people's economies gone and the prospect of a dire, uncertain way ahead, there is no way SAG-AFTRA's compensations, mainly aimed at keeping people afloat with their rent costs, could cover the real impact on its members' everyday lives, on the long run. They would also prefer to foolishly cry over a fictitious 800 million USD 'burden' and not see the (at least) six times bigger negative impact on the local economy, which translates both in net losses of profit for thousands of businesses (mainly SMEs) and thousands of lost jobs.
And in the middle of all this, it would seem that Herself is on her way to the NYCC. Whatever for, sweet summer child, I would brazenly ask this strange, diminutive woman who started it all.

Let’s Talk Wrestling Merch:
Now, I know the reason why you are reading my blog and connecting with other fans . You love professional wrestling! For this article, I’m going to be talking about wrestling merchandise and showing off a few of my favorite merch items and different merch items from over the years.
Wrestling merchandise can come into different forms. It’s all about fans buying items such as shirts , posters, toys, etc to show off their support for their favorite wrestlers. This became popular during the 1980s after the Rock & Wrestling Connection. Fans began buying merchandise to dress and support their favorite wrestlers such as Macho Man Randy Savage and Rowdy Roddy Piper. However, during this time period , it was the most popular wrestler in the WWF, Hulk Hogan, who had the highest selling merchandise in the company. Anything to do with the powerhouse wrestling promotion could be even found in grocery stores, with WWF branded ice cream bars. Vince McMahon’s vision for this was to appeal to children and get them to watch the programming by placing their favorite wrestler’s picture on a frozen treat. WWF birthday party sets were even available at the time as well.
During the 1990s and into the Monday Night Wars between WWF and WCW, merchandise sales were even higher. With the rise of the nWo , fans kept buying their shirts and other items such as figures of the popular group. During the Attitude Era for the WWF, stars such as Stone Cold Steve Austin , DX, and The Rock were the top merchandise sellers for the company. During the 2000s, WWE’s top selling merchandise was of their biggest names such as John Cena and Randy Orton , with Cena being the top seller.
With the popularity of WWE Shop and rival wrestling merch shop, Shop AEW, fans have been trying to find things to support their favorites. WWE’s top merchandise sellers are Cody Rhodes , LA Knight , Roman Reigns , Rhea Ripley , Bianca Belair , Liv Morgan , Seth Freakin Rollins, etc. With AEW, their top merchandise sellers include Sting, MJF, Swerve Strickland, Will Ospreay , Mercedes Monè, Timeless Toni Storm, etc. Sales of merch can change weekly or yearly.
Fans can also go to bookstores or websites to find books that their favorite wrestlers have written or any book about wrestling. I’ve bought two AEW shirts from Hot Topic , you can find wrestling merch there sometimes.
Before the rise of those two merchandise websites , fans had to find merchandise stands at shows and or in catalogs. They could also go to different stores to find figures of their favorite wrestlers.
The rise of sites such as Pro Wrestling Tees and Ringside Collectibles have helped fans as well. These sites have advertised different items to appeal to fans of any promotion or wrestling in general.
My Favorite Wrestling Merch Items:
I have a few favorite items in my personal collection that I want to show off. I have a vintage Shawn Michaels shirt that I found at a thrift store. I found it to be from 1997 , which was the year that I was born. I also have a nWo shirt which I found online and yes, it’s my favorite shirt. I also love my customized Drew McIntyre necklace , figure , and book. I also have a few vintage figures that were passed down to me by my dad.
My Final Thoughts:
Being an Amateur Wrestling Historian , I felt like talking about merch and how far it has came. I also liked talking about how far buying merch has evolved over the years. I’m curious , what was your first piece of wrestling merch and what is your newest one? What is your favorite merch? Let me know!
Love You All,
-Kay

FebruarOC Day 3: Chanri
Chanri refused every promotion Ilia tried to give him. Most of the proposals at this point where all that serious anymore. It was a game now. A yearly proposal, and its subsequent denial. And Chanri knew when each attempt was coming. It was in the way that Ilia wrote when he sent out the missive for Chanri to meet with him, usually the early afternoon when Ilia took one of his actual breaks from work. And he always made sure to do it on Chanri’s days off. Mostly because he gave him shit more than once for not taking breaks, and the ones he did take were not nearly long enough.
Which is how Chanri ended up looking over Ilia as the young emir laid on the floor with an open book over his face. He nudged Ilia’s knee with a foot. “Don’t tell me someone succeeded in killing you.”
“Does it look like I’m laying in a pool of my own blood?”
“Poison in your coffee wouldn’t leave blood.”
Ilia was silent for a moment before reaching up and removing his book from his face, revealing a rather disgruntled Ilia. “I check for poisons.”
Chanri knelt down. “You aren’t wearing your glasses. Far as I’m concerned, you would mistake an execution order for a report from the front lines.”
Now Ilia sat up, rubbing at his face after putting down his book. “I didn’t ask for a meeting so you could make fun of me, Chanri.”
“If I was making fun of you, I’d ask how courting the young Lady Roy was going.”
Ilia grimaced and Chanri couldn’t help but chuckle. He’d been watching Ilia’s awkward attempts to try and court Pippa. Evidently he and the others had been lacking on the aspect of the education they’d been giving Ilia since becoming the first part of his ragtag army ten years ago. The poor man had barely a clue on flirting, let alone seduction. It didn’t help that Pippa didn’t seem overly fond of Ilia either.
“She’ll come around eventually,” Chanri assured Ilia as he sat down across from her. “You have time before the wedding.”
“Maybe.” Ilia rubbed at his eyes. “But you aren’t here so we can discuss Pippa.”
“No? You don’t want details on how she seems to be trying to shake off her guards?”
“The ones I assigned or her ladies?”
Chanri’s brows rose in amusement. “You think Basere doesn’t have Pippa in her sight at all times?”
“I’m surprised anyone is able to keep up with her. But we still aren’t discussing Pippa.” Chanri settled back and waited for the inevitable proposal. Ilia didn’t disappoint. “I asked you to come here for a reason. I have the papers made out should you accept a promotion to general–”
“No.”
Ilia cocked his head to the side in exasperation. “You didn’t even let me finish.”
“Would it have mattered?”
“No. But you could have heard me out. There’s a pay increase and everything.”
Grinning, Chanri shook his head. “Still not interested. You know this.”
“Worth a try,” Ilia replied with a shrug. “I’m not getting rid of you ever, am I?”
“You’re stuck with me until I die.”
“Or I die.”
“Only one of those things is happening in my lifetime and that will never be your death.”
Ilia sighed and fell backwards again. “You’re the worst mercenary in existence. You’re supposed to be able to be paid off.”
Chanri shook his head again and didn’t answer. Instead he leaned against the solid wood of Ilia’s desk and sat in silence with his young charge. No price would ever be high enough to make him leave Ilia. He was the closest thing to a son he’d ever had. No one would hurt a hair on him if Chanri had anything to say or do about it. If he died in the process of keeping him safe. Then so be it.

I sent the previous spiralling ask and basically my point is how do you make time for your life and create the headspace to enjoy life when you're constantly thinking about ur professional career in you 20s?
hey angel! taking the context you're in from your previous message, it does seem like you have a lot on your plate and that the context in which you're in informs a lot of how you feel about your career. I completely feel you, because when I was fresh out of uni the first time around and only concerned with ensuring my subsistence, I used to be a stressed-out mess with a volatile mood and an inability to make space (headspace-wise and physically) for anything outside of work. I'd just go to work, come home, go through the motions, rinse, and repeat. and it's a far more common condition than what people make it out to be. everybody's bragging about where they are career-wise, how much they earn, the promotions they're up for, their five and ten-year plans, etc. It's nauseating and annoying as fuck, especially when they bring all their shit to social media too like girl we get it, keep this shit to LinkedIn!! anyway lmao, how do I make time for things in my life and create space in my life to enjoy myself? it comes with time, practice, and exercising your ability to take a step back and understand that to make time and space, you have to make an active effort. that first step is really difficult, and maintaining it is even more so. your early twenties and thirties and wherever you're in your life after a big transition (from education to the workforce for example) is an unstable and overwhelming period, but sometimes you just gotta think "i want to read a book", and then pick up the book, read a page, put it back down, come back to it the next day to read two pages, etc. it takes practice to normalize enjoying life again as lame and sad as it sounds. a few months ago I was so constantly busy and overwhelmed that when I stopped, I just crashed. I call it my yearly flop era but I really have to stop living like this lol it's a cycle that needs to be broken and it takes me so much time to learn to enjoy my life again even now. But it always takes me back to that one time in my life, fresh out of college and one year into my job, when I picked up "Big Little Lies" by Liane Moriarty. I barely even liked the book and it took me 4 months to finish it, but when I did, I moved on to the next, and over and over again until it took me so much less time and effort to read something. it might seem bleak and insurmountable at the moment, hence you reaching out to me, but there's definitely a light at the end of the tunnel, it comes with compartmentalizing and channeling your energy into doing something you enjoy even for a very little window during your day. it'll just keep getting bigger and bigger until the time you spend at work takes a backseat and what you do outside of work fuels you to keep going. literally the only source of renewable energy on this planet is joy. if your battery is depleted it's hard to get going again but once you do it renews itself more and more easily each passing day. wow this whole big ass incoherent wall of text just to promise you it'll get better!! i wish you the best of luck <3

Good Morning America and Beyond!
Thank you for accepting my invitation. I sought to add you as a colleague and friend because you minister to congregations in neighborhoods that see too much gun violence.
I am a former Cook County prosecutor, defense attorney, municipal attorney and drug policy reform activist. I’m for legalized drug markets, labels, licensing, government inspection of drugs, etc. I’m against drug use and never used a controlled substance.
It’s a World War on Drugs. UN drug-prohibition treaties that the U.S. sponsored mandated drug-prohibition laws in 186 nations. And those laws, unintentionally, result in a world with more drugs, more crime and more corruption. It is the law that takes youngsters from their books, that arms kids with guns, that gets 4,000 Chicagoans shot yearly. It makes healthcare unaffordable and drug overdose a norm. It’s the basis and justification for abusive policing, the promoter of corruption, and the last best refuge for racism in America.
Rather than me rattling on here. I wrote a book that was released Tuesday, November 21, 2023, that discusses these matters. It’s called “The Silver Bullet Solution: Is it time to end the War on Drugs?” Counterintuitively, the answer is YES.
https://histriabooks.com/product/the-silver-bullet-is-it-time-to-end-the-world-war-on-drugs/
Over the years, I have received help with my message from the Hon. R. Eugene Pincham, Ald. Rev. Deville and other leaders in the Black community. But the job is yet to be accomplished. Black Chicagoans, like all Chicagoans, need to help change public opinion regarding drug policy to ameliorate a dozen crises including drugs, overdose, AIDS, gangs, guns, violence, immigration, racism, criminal justice and freedom.
Maybe take a look at my “radical” book and let me hear from you if you’d like to help. Or if I can help.
Kind regards,
Jim Gierach

Could you tell us something about Jólabókaflóðið? My college’s library just issued a note about it (poorly spelling it as jolabokaflod, might I add) and they’re doing something similar to it for Christmas
Well, jólabókaflóð ("Christmas book flood") is just a term for the deluge of books that are published shortly before Christmas every year for marketing reasons - a lot of Icelanders give books as Christmas presents, so it's book-buying season. And I think there's a statistic where we publish more books yearly per capita than any other country in the world, so despite how small Iceland is, that's a lot of books.
The publishers also band together to publish 'Bókatíðindi' or the Book Bulletin, a hefty magazine listing every book coming out for Christmas with summaries, organized into categories, which gets delivered for free to every house that doesn't have a "no mass mail" sticker as well as being available at any bookstore. Some people will read through it and circle books that seem like particular friends or family members would like them, or that they themselves would like. As a kid I would just read through the summaries of the entire children's book section and mark the ones I wanted, and then I could tell any interested relatives what books to get me.
In Iceland, jólabókaflóðið is just the general concept of the flood of books around Christmas which is incidentally a thing - so you'll have people talk about how 'Oh, this book is coming out in the Christmas book flood', or 'The Christmas book flood is upon us, and one of the up-and-coming authors publishing their first book this Christmas is...', but not so much anyone organizing specific events by that name. So a library having a Jólabókaflóð event isn't really something that would happen in Iceland, but presumably what your library has going on is related to this, a general campaign for promoting book-buying and reading inspired by the general Icelandic enthusiasm for giving books as Christmas presents and the publishing of the Book Bulletin.

This past weekend one of the book stores that is near me was hosting a book festival, their first one they’ve held, being that they have only been opened for a little over a year, but they’re hoping to make it a yearly thing. I went to it and I really enjoyed myself, there was a bunch of local authors there to promote their books, I bought two different books from two different authors, they signed them for me I also got cards from various different authors to check out more of their works. There were so many different types of authors there that I did not expect, being from where I am there was a ton more smutty writers there than I thought there would be. All types it seemed like too. Regular romance, fantasy, slightly darker themes, as well as SyFy. But there were books for everyone, they had children’s authors, religious authors and more. There were also people who set up who sold book related merchandise as well as two local friends who have a book podcast where they sit down each week and talk about the books they’ve read.
Once I finish the books that I got from the book festival I will let you know my thoughts as well as the titles of the books and their authors and where you can find your copies of the books.

How to be a good Christian Friend
(even if you're socially awkward <3)
We all wish we could just walk up to people and just start speaking about the Bible, making people aware of the Gospel with no fear. But what if you are scared? I know I am sometimes, especially when my friends are non-believers! Well, you know how sometimes the devil sneaks into our thoughts and causes us to do things, well we can do that, but for positive things, like making people be better.
Here's how!
Be Kind
I feel like this was obvious, but sometimes, being kind is an easy way to spread love! If people ask: "why are you so kind?" Yiu can simply reply with- "I'm a Christian, I believe everyone deserves to be treated equally!" Or "For the Lord!" If people laugh at you for this, they are a) mean b) not real friends and c) need to be more kind too!
Pray before you eat
This is so simple! When you're in the canteen/cafeteria, just do the sign of the cross and thank God for the food! You don't even need to speak out loud. If your friends are belivers, maybe it'll remind them to pray, and if they don't believe, then they'll wonder why. And if they ask, say: "Oh, I'm just thanking God for the food, thats all!"
Sneak in Bible Verses
It's easy to tell your friends Bible verses, and they probably won't even notice!
"Do everything in love!"
(1 Corinthians 16:14)
"Bad company corrupts good character."
(1 Corinthians 15:33)
"Two are better than one."
(Ecclesiastes 4:9)
And if they ask who told you that, just say: My Father or my friend! You can even say that you read it in a book (The Bible!)
Pray for Them
So simple, you don't even need to tell them! Just pray for them to have good lives, find Jesus/God, have safety, and not fall into sin!
The best part is that they can't judge you for this since they don't know. But remember, if your friends judge you for being Christian, it's best to leave.

Eat, Pray, Love
Author: Elizabeth Gilbert
Memoir / Autobiography
Page Count: 334
How did I come across this book?:
Well around 2014-ish I bought this book because the younger me was infatuated with travel and I enjoyed the film.
I stumbled upon this book in Barnes & Noble and thought I'll get the nitty gritty details from the author rather than the film...
But I procrastinate horribly.
I literally blew dust off the cover when I picked up this book.
Review:
Well, 2014ish me would have loved this book.
But 2022ish me thinks this book is incredibly pretentious and riddled with white privilege.
Don't get me wrong - Elizabeth Gilbert can write - this book is filled with excellent prose, descriptions, humor, metaphors/similes - but lordy, lordy - reading 300+ pages about a white lady that "doesn't know what to do with their life" and essentially gets paid to vacay is kinda boring and bullshit.
Another concept/opinion from the book that I did not enjoy - I may have misinterpreted - but from my understanding Gilbert notates she has/had serious issues with depression/suicidal thoughts but still promotes stigmatizing medication and/or seeking help/doctors for such issues.
I could be wrong about her personal stance, but she quite clearly stated during the Italian/Eat phase of the book that she did not want to re-up her meds/take them because she shouldn't have to take them since she is in Italy/"paradise".
I don't know - call me a Jealous Crotchety Scrooge, but the heart of this story left a bad taste in my mouth.
Personal Rating: 4/10

ABLA has the best lookbooks! How often do illustrators get work from ABLA's marketing of their illustrators? (I'm at an agency that doesn't promote their illustrators with lookbooks or on their website so I'm curious!)
Thanks for the kind words. The short answer is: A Lot. I'm not saying the way we do things is the only way, or the best way, but it does work quite well for us, and we try to remain open to new ideas and ways to feature our illustrators and adjust our strategy accordingly.
The long answer involves a story, some of which I'm sure I've told before, bear with me:
Many years ago, during the height of the recession of 2008-era, picture books were in an absolute tailspin, graphic novels weren't really a "thing" yet, etc. And my boss was concerned because our illustrators were not getting enough jobs -- like should we even rep illustrators if we can't rep them well? Maybe we should STOP repping illustrators?
As an agency, we decided instead to do the opposite, and double down on illustrators. But in order to rep them properly and really give them the best chance of success, we had to put in the work and really push the idea to art directors and editors that OUR AGENCY IS A GREAT PLACE TO FIND TALENT, our website is a great resource for them, they can find awesome illustrators to work with here, we should be one of their first stops on any search, etc. This has been a decades worth of effort, but it absolutely has paid off, because I know for a fact that our illustrators tend to get A LOT of work, and much of it is down to the fact that publishing people know how much talent we rep and actively use the resources we give them, such as:
Our agency illustrator page, a constant work-in-progress. We recently revamped it so if you click on a name/thumbnail, it goes directly to an informative page with a bio, portfolio, previous books, downloadable tear sheet, etc, as well as links to the illustrator's website and socials.
Weekly Illustrator Spotlights, which feature a new illustrator every week and are delivered straight to the inboxes of hundreds of editors and art directors, as well as being featured on social media.
LookBooks, which we started really getting into during the pandemic because we realized that physical postcard mailings weren't working when nobody was in the office to receive them! These are twice-yearly and feature 25-30 illustrators each (and the individual LookBook page becomes the downloadable tear sheet for that illustrator after the illustrator is featured).
Our ABLA Artist Instagram, which features art from a wide variety of the illustrators we rep (as well as the art from the weekly spotlights)
Now -- is all that a guarantee that EVERY illustrator will get a lot of job opportunities? Not at all, of course not. Styles go in and out of fashion, and any illustration job that comes to us can only exist if the THING EXISTS, you know what I mean? Like if there is an illustrator who really is great at drawing... I dunno, really sweet baby books, but publishers aren't LOOKING for people to do really sweet baby books, then they aren't going to get offers. That's why it's a good thing if illustrators are also trying their hand at writing / generating their own projects -- it's cool to have things we can shop to publishers in ADDITION to things publishers bring to us. At the very least, experimenting in this way can give you new stuff for your portfolio, and raise awareness of your name/work generally. I have had situations where I shop an illustrator's dummy to editors, and they don't buy the book, but they DO hire the illustrator for something else / keep them in mind when something likely comes up.
It REALLY helps if the Artist themselves is ALSO doing their part, by keeping their websites updated, their portfolio and social media posts updated with fresh art, building their own connections, linking to US the way we link to THEM, etc etc.
(If you don't see an artist you are pretty sure we rep on the website, that's because some of our artists don't actually WANT illustration opportunities because they are busy doing their own self-authored books, so we don't feature them. They are too busy!)

The Double Feature: A Brief History
Seeing a movie is too expensive. This isn’t a new phenomenon, as ticket prices in the U.S. have nearly doubled in the past two decades. We’ve all cringed at the prospect of spending $20, $30, or even $40 to go out to the movies, only to decide the time spent waiting a few extra weeks until the film streams is preferable to parting with that much cash. Theaters feel the heat, now promoting a “premium” moviegoing experience with luxury recliners, elevated dining offerings, and immersive screen and audio options. Naturally, premium experiences come at premium prices. With streaming services continuing to test the viability of movie theaters, it’s time to revisit one of cinema’s greatest innovations: The Double Feature.
Tumblr media
The term “double feature” of course refers to the two films exhibited (usually a higher budget or star-studded “A” picture paired with a less significant “B” picture), but in practice it commonly included multiple live-action and animated short subjects and a newsreel. Note below that the 1940 rerelease of Hell’s Angels and Scarface (which would be double billed again in 1979) also included at least a newsreel and cost 27¢. That’s equivalent to just $6.06 today, cheaper than any ticket on discount days in my hometown.
Tumblr media
In these days, major production companies controlled the majority of large chain theaters, also called “first-run” theaters. Theaters owned by the studios showed an A pictures on a single ticket, then block booked (sold A pictures as an all-or-nothing package with their other films) their yearly output to independent exhibitors. Independent theaters took back some control by offering double features, a fairly efficient way to recoup the expenditure of studio film packages. Although considered an “unfair” practice by the large chain exhibitors, the double feature proved a winning strategy for independent theaters and a beloved pastime for theatergoers, especially during the economic hardships of the 1930s and ‘40s. Two films for one low price. This helped world-weary, budget-minded consumers justify the cost of going to the movies and enabled them to spend a few hours indulging in some much needed escapism.
Tumblr media
In 2024, double feature are a relative rarity typically reserved for the drive-in, a series marathon (think The Lord of the Rings rerelease), or a Halloween bill at your local grindhouse. But could double features—the way theaters kept afloat in the past—also be the way of the future? The people created their own double feature event in the form of Barbenheimer last year, to resounding success. Who knows what a single-price double feature could do for waning attendance with some creative, modern film pairings?
Tumblr media
Until then, I’ll be here at The Double Feature crafting some classic film bills of my own. Please join me in celebrating this timeless film tradition by enjoying my themed double feature recommendations, complete with short subjects and vintage “news,” whenever possible. I hope you will find these blog posts entertaining, enlightening, and evocative of a bygone era.
Our first double feature theme will be Salon Scandals. For further reading, check out this interesting article about the state of 1930s cinemas in Seattle.

PASAdU Hosts Historical Adventure Game “Back to the Fort”
The Pangkasaysayang Samahan ng Adamson University (PASAdU) organized an engaging historical game titled "Back to the Fort" at Fort Santiago, Intramuros on May 4, 2024.
The said game was an interactive and immersive learning experience for  Adamsonians by bringing them back to the illustrious and historically enriched setting of Fort Santiago.
A facilitator coming from members of PASADU is assigned to each group which consists of five members along with their respective group leader which then a map brochure and a crossword puzzle with tasks and a mystery word were given to each team. The puzzle's solution is directly related to every historical information located in Fort Santiago, and players were prohibited from using phones or Google for assistance.
However, if they encounter difficulties in finding the answer, they are granted three lifelines. To utilize a lifeline, they must utter the phrase "PASADU Ako" in front of their facilitator, who will then provide clues from a deck of cards containing daring challenges that team members must complete. The first team to successfully solve all the puzzles will search for a big key and win the game.
After the successful completion of the game, Mr. Adrian Zulueta, the chairperson of the social science department, delivered his closing remarks expressing his gratitude to all the participants and officers of PASADU who worked hard to make this event possible. He also extended his gratitude to the Intramuros administration for opening their space for young learners to appreciate and discover the history of the Philippines. Mr. Zulueta continued to express his excitement to turn this event into an annual one, saying, "We will make this event even bigger and turn it into a yearly event.” he said.
"Back to the Fort" was originally proposed and organized by Exzur Jay Arabia, a professor in political science and history. “In any way that we can promote history whether it's a song, it's a poem, it's a game, I think we should explore those things, and for my part I chose to explore it through a game.” He said
He takes great pride in overseeing this program that he initiated, and he gladly handed it over to PASADU, enabling it to expand into a bigger avenue and carry on our history.  He also then expressed all the significant learnings that every student can gain participating.
“Matutunan nila yung (They will learn) socio-emotional aspect, yung (the) teamwork, yung (the) appreciation ng (of) culture, atsaka yung (and the)  ability natin (of us) to think and analyze.” he said.
Additionally, Arabia has also seized this moment as an opportunity to underscore the importance of why we should all pay attention and be mindful of our history.
“Kailangan natin yun (We need it)  in the sense na ang kasaysayan kasi (that history)  yun ang kaluluwa ng bansa (it’s the soul of our country)  so remove history, i think your also removing the DNA of a nation.” he said.
The President of the Pangkasaysayang Samahan ng Adamson University, Aerol Christopher Infante advocates for their recently recognized organization, persuading Adamson students to join their group that's full of knowledge from the past, “If you want to learn history as well as culture why not try PASADU lalong lalo na (especially)  if you wanna learn in a very fun way na hindi (that’s not) very traditional na (like) by the book of learning.” he said.
Johannah Gonzales, the Vice President of Pangkasaysayang Samahan ng Adamson University, reflects upon the valuable lessons she has gained through organizing this historically inclined event.
“Sa event na to (In this event) pinaka natutunan ko (I learned) is  sobrang halaga na may (It’s very important to have) teamwork pag ginagawa niyo to (when you’re doing this) and i think maapply ko din siya satin mga kabataan (it can also be applied for us youth) na (that) if may (there’s) teamwork, mas mashashape natin ang history for the better ( we can shape history for the better).” she said.
Czearine Kate Padilla, the Academic Directress/Event Head of PASAdU shared her experience being one of the organizers of the event, and with the participants. PASAdU is her first organization as a college student. She said that it was overwhelming for her because of the loads of paperworks that needed to be done, and to make the idea of the event true to life. “They’re not only learning history but they’re also able to learn about the different morals, like teamwork and morals,” she said.
Lastly, Jommel Alagas, a fourth-year communication student shared his excitement in PASAdU’s Back To The Fort. According to him, it’s his last chance as a college student to enjoy school activities. “It is very inspiring and very memorable,” he said.
