Love & Barbells - pt. 3
Pairing: Chubby!Bucky (gym crush) x Reader
Warnings: Fluff, Sam being the best gym bro, Bucky being an absolute sweetheart/flirt.
Authors Note: I have been extremely idle on here, but I finally found some inspiration and decided to run with what little I got. Thank you all for continuing to be here and read for those that are. Hopefully the pixie dust will continue to sprinkle itself around me so that I can continue to push these out. Enjoy and happy readings Buns!
“Come on girl, one more, that’s it, up, up, up!” Though your hot in the face you let Sams words and mirroring stance push you to finish your last set, a relief washing over you in the form of a weak smile as your hand meets his in a lame attempt at a high-five of a job well done.
“Drop your weights and go get some water, you earned it,” he grins, teasing laced in his tone. You don’t need to be told twice as you place them on the mat, your arms like noodles as you drop into a low squat reaching for your water bottle as you watch Sam and Steve partner up, Bucky walking over to you, sweaty grin on his lips.
He drops into a similar squat, “so what do you think, not too bad right,” he questions breathy laugh slipping past his lips as he watches for your reaction.
You swallow down the water held in your mouth, running your fingers over your lips before you speak, “watching and doing are definitely two different things,” is what you offer and the grin that morphs fairly quickly into a smirk has you hiding behind another sip of your bottle.
“you watch us y/n,” he teases smirk growing as he watches your burning face. You will the water down before capping your bottle and placing it down, hopping to save yourself some embarrassment, “doesn’t everyone watch at some point,” you throw back, “and yeah I do, it’s kind of hard not too.”
You had already dug yourself this far, why not keep digging?
The way his brow raises smirk pulling higher is endearing, “I like the little group you have going, its tight knit, you guys fit.”
Bucky smiles, “well I’d hope we do seeing as we’re all friends outside of this.” The brunette laughs at your mock shock, “friends outside of this, I would have never guessed.”
“Enjoying your break,” Sam questions through a breath as he and Steve close in on the two of you.
“This was a break?”
Steve and Bucky are snorting back a laugh, Sam’s brows shooting up, a grin pulling at his lips, “so that’s how this is, you want more?”
Your extending a hand out to him, “give me something to cry about later Sam.” Sam let’s out a whistle grabbing your hand in his as he pulls you up, “I like you, might just trade you for Steve sorry Buck.”
Steve laughs as he moves closer to Bucky, “c’mon Buck let’s go pull some cables.”
“Don’t go to hard on her Wilson she owes me a leg day!”
He’s waving them off, “wouldn’t dream of it Barnes, I think she can handle it,” he calls over his shoulder as he leads you to the next equipment.
Sam manages to put you through the ringer, or at least tries to, “you’re something,” he pants wiping sweat from his brow as he turns to you, “I can see now why you catch Barnes attention here and there.”
Your hands fall to your hips, warmth creeping up your cheeks as you catch on to his words, “everyone at one point or another stares while they’re at the gym Sam.” He laughs, “true, but I see now why big guy over there gets all lost on you between sets.”
You raise a brow waiting, “you’re good at what you do, you don’t come here to play, you come here to put in work and you push.” A smile pulls at your lips, “thank you, that’s the main reason I come here, to put in work - to feel good about myself, to feel strong.”
Your fist is meeting his, “That’s what I’m talking about! Hey listen if you’re ever wanting to join us for one of our sets don’t even think twice, just come on over and shuffle yourself in.”
“Really,” you question, “I really wouldn’t want to intrude, I was telling Bucky earlier that I like your dynamic, it’s tight knit, you all fit in with one another.”
“Well we’ve been training for months now and been friends for longer so yeah we fit, but there’s always room for more,” he grins.
“I’ll keep that in mind, so what’s next?”
His grin grows, “you want more, well come on then let’s hit the next set!”
You take up Sam’s offer, though to be fair it was technically the promised leg day you would take Bucky through, you had started off strong just the two of you.
“You know as long as I’ve been here I don’t think I’ve seen too many people stretch before their leg day.”
You look over at him as he helps you rack your warm up weight, “I wouldn’t before,” you reveal, “its actually not until I started really going up in weight that I realized it’s importance during heavy lifts, I also learned not to just jump into it, you need to warm your muscles up.”
He’s flashing you a grin, “smart girl, so you’ll let me know when you need me?”
Your legs are shaking and you haven’t even begun, “yeah, I’d say the first set I should be fine but once we up the weight – well you’ve seen me struggling so.”
He chuckles watching you intently as you settle under the bar readying yourself as you unrack the weight and settle into your stance. You worry as you begin your descend that you may not be able to perform like you usually do with having him so close, you were used to him being across the gym unaware of you.
Bucky proves you wrong, encouraging your every rep despite it only being the warm up. And you return the favor when he performs his, being rewarded with that knee buckling smile after every descend.
At the first add of weight Bucky settles in behind you, not close enough to catch your weight, but at the stand by, a watchful eye. A grin is pulling at your lips when you find that watchful eye a little too watchful, his eyes following much more than just your form.
Your eyes catch his gaze in the mirror when you pause at the top, “how's my form,” you breathe through a laugh. You’re not expecting the lower lip lick, “it looks good.” Your knees nearly buckle under the added weight and as you go forward to rerack, he’s reaching for you. “Hold on now,” he chuckles hands settling on your ribs, “you’re not done yet sweetheart, come on now give me one more.” You feel warm beneath his guiding hands, his fingers tapping against your skin as he follows you down.
His touch makes you weak, what should have been an easy rep has become hard your legs struggling to get you to the top. “That’s it, come on get to the top sweetheart, come on now,” he encourages. Following his guide you get the last rep out, your legs stumbling forward as you rerack it, his form close as he helps you.
You slip out from under the bar turning to face him a smile on his pink lips, “you good to go up in weight, don’t want you burning out, we barely just started.”
Your roll your eyes only slightly, “I’m hitting max weight today Bucky, c’mon now get under here.”
“You or the bar?”
You want to smack the shit eating grin that grows on his face, instead the back of your hand meets his clothed chest, “get under the bar Bucky.” He moves in chuckling under his breath as he goes, your form sliding in behind him like a smaller shadow.
His reps are effortless, little strain show in his features as he surpasses his reps, “do you even need a spotter, making it look real easy.” Bucky slips out from under, following opposite you as you add more weight to the bar, “when you have the perfect spotter reps do come easy.”
Your heart swoops, stomach somersaulting as you add your weight, your form going around as you settle yourself under the bar, Bucky settling in behind you. He falls in closer, hands hover just above your skin as you push the bar off the rack, stepping back into him as you brace your core for the first rep.
He’s breathing words of encouragement into your ear for every rep you manage to get out despite the shake to your head and the disagreement that you cannot falling from your lips. His hands are on you now, your back aching from the added weight, “c’mon y/n, just one more, one more and we can move on c’mon now.” Your gaze is on his in the mirror, your head shaking, “I can’t, my legs are shot m’gonna fail this one,” you groan.
“c’mon now, I’m right here,” he adds as he brushes his chest up against your back, his hands now stretched out in front of you, “you’re not gonna fail, m’right here, c’mon now.” You work up the gut, bracing yourself as you suck in a breath, “that’s it, ready,” you release your breath, your form going down with his.
You hit the squat, the struggle striking, “push,” he encourages, “c’mon push!” Your groan is muffled as you strain to push up to full height, “c’mon y/n, c’mon y/n!” You see Sam coming up in the mirror, his face set in determination as he watches you, “let’s go y/n, you’ve got this,” Steve chimes in, both of them coming to your side.
Bucky’s still there breathing encouragement into your ear willing you to keep going up as he follows your lead, “that’s it, that’s it c’mon now – yes, yes there it is, there she is,” you hear as you push to full height, a tired grin pulling at your lips.
“Jesus christ,” you mumble as you stumble forward with Bucky, thighs shaking as you rerack the weight. They’re all there to offer you praise as you lean up against the bar, “never doubt yourself, you’re stronger than you think.”
You smile legs putty for just your first exercise, “with the perfect help I’m sure I can do anything, thank you,” you say squeezing his shoulder. “C’mon now,” Sam starts getting your attention, “Buck might have been behind you pushing you to give your best but that rep was all you, he was just the net should you fall,” “but you didn’t,” Steve points.
“Thanks guys, you guys really motivate me, whether here with me or from across the room, you guys have always pushed me through my exercises if it hadn’t happened already, I would have eventually worked up the courage to ask one of you to spot me,” you reveal.
There are similar smiles on all their lips, “well isn’t a good thing you caught Barnes attention then,” Sam gets out nudging the brunette next to you. Bucky swats at him making you all chuckle, “you done Wilson we were just about to move onto our next set.”
“Actually, Steve and I were wondering if you wouldn’t mind us working in,” he says looking between the two of you, “I know I mentioned here to y/n that she could shuffle herself in whenever she felt like it and I’m thinking why not.”
“I don’t mind,” you’re the first to supply, you look at Bucky, he’s shrugging his shoulders surprising you by throwing his arm over your shoulder pulling you from the rack, “I’m okay with it but you’re already a set behind, get on with it.”
Steve and Sam are laughing as they settle into the squat rack, Bucky leading you over to the leg press right next to them. “I’ll go first, give you a break.”
“What a gentleman,” you hear Sam tease. “Hope you’re prepared y/n,” Steve says as he unracks the weight this is what it's like all the time.”
As you looked over the group, your eyes falling on Bucky last as he kicked off the leg press you find that you didn’t mind, you didn’t mind at all.

“This is so pathetic”
Synopsis: In which you and Megumi get really touch starved after not seeing each other for too long 😌
Word count: 1.8k
A/n: reposting this cause the last one got super blocked! It got no likes at all omg
————
You laid in Megumi’s bed squinting up at a textbook you were supposed to be taking notes on. As you stared all the words blurred together the longer you went over them and Itadori’s mumbling as he read aloud made you lose focus.
You sighed before reaching over the bed to tap his head. “Itadori can you please read in your head.”
Nobora clicked her tongue from across the room, “You’re almost an adult and you still can’t read in your head!?”
“I can’t help it, it helps me focus better.” He whined.
“Well if you could, could you just,” you pinched your fingers, “quiet down a little more, I’d love that.”
“If you could read in your head I’d love that.” Nobora grinned.
As Itadori pouted you moved the text book up and down, trying to see if a change in movement would do you better. You squinted, glared, flipped pages, whatever, no matter what the words continued to jumble.
You dropped the book and looked over to Megumi, he sat at his desk effortlessly writing away. It looked as though he did this daily, skimming his eyes over the pages and flipping within seconds. He had filled notes piled all over his desk in messy, but organized stacks.
You turned your head to the few sheets of notes you took, with margins full of doodles. You had to write so much more information.
If only you, Nobora and Itadori hadn’t slacked off all day watching movies, you would be at the same level as him. Or better yet, finished!
You popped some candy Itadori bought into your mouth. You had all been studying for hours, you figured it could be time for a bit of movement.
You hopped over Itadori’s legs to the door, “I’m gonna get a drink from the vending machine, anyone wanna come?”
Nobora shook her head, “I’m good, can you bring two sodas for me though?” She fluttered her eyelashes until you rolled your eyes and held your hand out. She squealed before placing some quarters in your palm. “You can keep the change!”
“Thanks.” With what she gave you, you’d have enough change leftover to throw one penny at someone's car. “Anyone else?”
Megumi stood from his chair while Itadori looked up from his game, “I'll go.” They said at once.
They turned to each other, Itadori’s face full of interest while Megumi’s was full of anything but that. You didn’t like being around people for a long period of time, but he really didn’t like it. Especially when they were in his space for this long.
He did tell them to “go somewhere” but like usual you all didn’t listen and procrastinated all day. Leaving a loud group of teens within Megumi’s quiet space was torture, you swore if you squinted you could see him twitching every time anyone talked.
You looked between the boys, Megumi probably needed an excuse to go outside. You hoped Itadori would somehow get that.
Itadori cocked his head, not reading the room. “Nice! It’ll be the three of us the—”
Before he could finish Megumi already slipped out and slid the door shut, leaving Itadori hanging with his mouth open. Nobora laughed at him.
———————
The two of you walked in silence, Megumi thinking and you in your own little world. The sounds of your footsteps echoed as you walked along the pavement.
He wondered what you were thinking about as you hummed and blew on your hands. Your sweater didn’t have any pockets so you kept pulling your sleeves over them.
“Are you cold?” Megumi asked.
You nodded but continued to rub your hands together, “But we might get caught if we hold hands.”
The two of you were dating. Very secretly, only being romantic whenever you had definite private places to kiss and hold hands. If it was in public it would be you giving a quick peck to his cheek or his hand slipping into yours.
You two wanted it to be a quiet relationship, at least until your friends and teacher happened to catch you guys, which you were both very careful to avoid. He figured as soon as the group found out it would be full of so much chatter and teasing, something you both weren’t too interested in dealing with at the moment.
He flicked his eyes around the building then held his hand out, “No ones here.”
“Are you sure…? What if Gojo comes out of nowhere?” You checked your surroundings as you whispered.
The two of you silently listened for any rustling or footsteps of some kind. He continued to glance at you while your eyebrows pushed together, when you were focused on something he thought you had the sweetest expressions.
Even you looking frustrated made him feel soft, like today when you struggled with that book. It was cute and he couldn’t help but look at you every so often, whenever someone looked back at him he would turn and start writing something random down. He had a few piles of paper with random crap all over it… he really hoped Nobora or Itadori didn’t check his notes while he was gone.
He looked down at the hands by your sides, at this point he didn’t care if the relationship got exposed to everyone.
“Please.” He mumbled.
You pulled on your ears, leaning forward to hear him again. “Huh, what’d you say?”
He squirmed the longer you looked at him. “I didn’t say anything...” he looked away the closer you got to his face.
“You didn’t? I thought I heard you say something.” You backed down, teetering on your toes.
“I…” his tongue tied as he tried to spit out what he wanted to say. It felt like he was confessing to you all over again. He internally groaned as he lost courage to say the words that he felt were too embarrassing to share. “This is so pathetic…”
You grinned, “What are you trying to say? Is it that bad?”
He shook his head, covering his mouth as he circled his brain about how to say his thoughts. Get it together! You two are dating. This shouldn’t be that hard to express, why was he struggling so bad with this?
He glanced down at your hands, flickering his eyes between your face and them. You were shivering and he wanted to do something nice, and he also kind of didn’t see you all day. So he didn’t understand why it was so embarrassing to admit it.
You followed his gaze down before twisting your hand around. “Are you trying to ask if you can hold my hand?”
He frowned, it was even more embarrassing for you to catch onto him...
“So that’s what it was?” You pulled his hand away from his mouth, pulling it up to your lips. “That’s not bad, it’s cute.”
You gave a quick peck to his knuckles, making him let out a flustered noise he tried to eat up with a cough. His brows knitted together as he tried his best to look away, he must have felt overwhelmed or something, your hands were cold but so much warmth spread through his arm.
You two hadn’t held hands in so long, it was like that first sip of drinking cold water on a hot day. You were refreshing, well needed company after a long day.
He intertwined your hands correctly, fingers wrapped up in each other, held inbetween the center of you both.
“I missed you.” He whispered.
You grinned as you squeezed his hand, “I missed you too.”
He let out a sigh, letting the corners of his mouth twitch into a smile as you two stared at each other. The crickets cooed and the wind wisped soundly against the grass, if you listened closer you could hear the whirring of cars on the main roads.
You turned your head closer to his, looking up to him as you cupped his cheek. Your eyes danced over every feature of his face as he looked down at you with his glossy, painted like eyes.
He leaned down, fluttering his pretty lashes shut as you pulled him in closer. Up until your lips touched, a light butterfly kiss that felt like a small cloud graced your face. You could feel him smiling the second your lips touched, his hands moved to your waist, pulling you in just a tad bit deeper.
Your lips were soft, pushing onto his with a gentle squish. He was a little too excited for this. But who could blame him? With the way you touched him it made him warm on the inside, you had him wrapped around your finger with every smooch.
You grazed his cheek with your hands pressing kisses all over his face. He felt himself go weak under your fingertips, every press of your lips against his face made his heart rise into his throat.
How did he get someone like you?
This felt right to him, pulling you away from friends for a night time kiss felt needed. You pulled away, tapping his cheeks while he blinked his eyes open.
His eyes glided over your features, the moon highlighting every lovely aspect of your face. He ran his thumb over your cheek, making space, about to give you one more kiss before he heard a gasp.
“Fushiguro you creep! What are you doing!?”
The two of you flipped around to see Nobora with Itadori trailing right behind her. Itadori’s face dropped open while Nobora’s face twisted into itself.
“Yeah Fushiguro, get it!” Itadori pumped his fist up and down.
You were blinking and taking in your surroundings, one second you were being romantic with your boyfriend, the next you were caught by your friends. You looked between the two wondering where they even came from.
“Why are you guys out here?”
“I didn’t tell you what sida to get and you two were taking a long time!” Nobora pinched your cheek until you apologized.
You rubbed the side of your face as you checked your pocket for change, you forgot she sent you out here. You were too caught up in this quiet boy’s eyes to realize people could have gotten suspicious if you didn’t hurry.
You sighed, nothing you could do now, Itadori was already embarrassing Megumi and you couldn’t help but giggle. As hectic as this situation was, at least now you two could show a tad more affection in public. Nothing more than holding hands, but this reaction from the two wasn’t bad.
You cocked your head, though sweet, this situation felt a little too calm… you looked around as you thought of something that was missing in this situation, like an almost full puzzle piece with one left to fill.
Itadori sighed, “I can’t believe Fushiguro started dating before us…”
“Right it’s not fair…” Nobora nodded solemnly.
Megumi scoffed as the two moped. Scolding them for ‘not minding their business’ as you laughed at them. It was so cute seeing your friends like this over your secret relationship, you couldn’t help but feel a tad bit happy your secret was released.
That was until you heard shuffling from around the corner. You all turned your heads until you heard a voice.
“Did I hear Megumi and dating in the same sentence?” Gojo slipped from the deep dark shadows below, a goofy smile wrapped around his cheeks.
Ah there it is, the missing piece.

I have a fun prompt I've been thinking about I hope you have time for one day! When Newt and Hermann meet actually things go really really well and they even get together. It's just they bicker so much and have huge science-based arguments that everyone assumed they must have hated each other on sight.
sure thing! i had fun with this one
----
"So," Newt says. "I was talking to Tendo today."
Across the mess table, Hermann hums in feigned interest. Newt knows it's feigned 'cause Hermann doesn't stop either thing he's doing: using his left hand to wind noodles around a fork, and using his right hand to scribble away a series of lengthy equations on the back of a paper napkin. His full attention has been hopping between both for about ten minutes now—no room for Newt to slip in there. He's testing his limits enough as it. Half of the last equation ended up scratched into the tabletop, and the last time he lifted his fork to his mouth, it was empty. And then he swallowed anyway. Newt kinda loves the guy.
"Yeah," Newt says, deciding to continue like Hermann responded the way he was actually supposed to respond, which would've been something along the lines of what an utterly fascinating story, Newton, do tell me more. I love hearing you talk, Newton. How marvelously smart you are, Newton, and how melodic and breathtaking your voice is. Now watch me bite down on an empty fork again. "Kinda funny. He was asking how we met."
Hermann finally looks up at Newt suspiciously over the rims of his glasses, which are slipping slowly down his nose. He stills them with the tip of his index finger before they land in his dinner. "Why?"
"I don't know, man," Newt says. "He just was. It was like, small talk, you wouldn't get it. He dropped by the lab when you were out this morning to let me know that there was extra space if we wanted it. Like, lab space." Hermann resumes scratching an equation into the table absently. Newt rolls his eyes. "As in, we could have separate labs if we wanted now."
Hermann knits his eyebrows together. "Separate laboratories?"
When Newt and Hermann first started at the Hong Kong Shatterdome, the k-scientist team was pre-existing and significantly bigger, and anyone who joined on later—like, you know, them—basically got shoved in wherever they fit. For Newt and Hermann, that happened to be Laboratory Space D, Basement Level 1 (the only basement level), along with a former marine biologist who was killed on a research excursion a month later when a kaiju made unexpected landfall, like, right on top of their chosen shelter. Bad luck. Anyway, Newt's known about the existence of other Hong Kong Shatterdome lab spaces in the vague and absent sort of way that you would an urban legend, but (similarly so) he never thought he and Hermann would actually ever lay eyes on one. And then Tendo stopped by to dangle it in front of Newt on a stick.
"The other labs were being used as storage for ages after everyone else—" Newt searches for a word tasteful enough to encapsulate got stomped by a kaiju and wised up and decided to live out what are probably our last few days before the world ends with their families instead of alone in a military bunker. "—left. Anyway, Tendo told me they've been going through shit like crazy this month, I think to see if they can salvage any old tech, and that the other labs are basically totally emptied out now. We just have to ask and they're ours."
Hermann sets down both his pen and fork, twisting his mouth contemplatively. He finally loses the battle against gravity with his glasses, and they miss his plate by an inch, swinging back on their chain and bouncing harmlessly against his chest instead. Newt briefly wonders if getting a chain for his own glasses would save them from their frequent fatal falls into kaiju organ cavities and buckets of non-neutralized kaiju blood, but decides not even the money he'd save on replacement pairs would make a fashion faux pas like that worth it. "You know I don't much fancy the basement," Hermann says.
"Your joints," Newt agrees. The damp of the basement sets Hermann's joint pain off frequently, something Hermann talks about just as frequently. Newt's not really a fan of the basement either, though for different reasons—he would kill to get some windows and natural, non-fluorescent light in there. Sun lamps can only do so much. He's pretty sure he'd fucking glow if he stepped outside right now. Also, it's cold down here.
"And it might be nice to be closer to LOCCENT, in case of an emergency," Hermann continues. "And closer to—oh, hang on. What has this got to do with us?"
"Huh?"
"How we met," Hermann says. "You said, that Tendo asked—"
"Oh," Newt says. It's his turn to play coy. He stirs his chopsticks through his own dinner, accidentally flicking a piece of tofu to the table. It lands on top of Hermann's etched equations. Hermann scowls, because that's how their routine goes: Newt gets Hermann's stuff dirty, and Hermann gets mad. "Well. It was just that Tendo was like you can finally be out of each other's hair, how the hell did you guys get stuck together anyway when you obviously can't stand each other, that kind of stuff."
"Ah," Hermann says.
"And I said that it was because we knew each other before," Newt says, "and that we transferred here together. And that's when he asked."
"And what did you say?" Hermann says.
"That we used to correspond professionally," Newt says, "and met at a conference way back in 2017." He adds, with a grin, "Also professionally."
This was technically true. Newt and Hermann did write to each other, professionally, and they did meet at a conference, professionally, but what went down after a long and public shouting match in the events hall of a very nice hotel—in Hermann's room, five floors up in that very nice hotel—was not very professional. The events of the week that followed—spent, intermittently, between Hermann's hotel room, several coffee shops, a bench under a tree in Newt's favorite park, a rotation sushi restaurant, brushing knees shyly on the tram, and, finally, clasping hands on the staircase of Newt's apartment and gazing deeply into each other's eyes—weren't very professional, either, but Newt likes to think that they were very romantic. Rom-com level shit. Newt revealed none of this to Tendo, who referred to the 2017 conference as that Infamous Day for the rest of their conversation. "Well, it was professional," Hermann sniffs.
But he reaches across the table, and, very timidly, crosses his pinkie over top of Newt's. It's the most blatant form of PDA Hermann ever willingly engages Newt in. Newt thinks if he ever tried to touch two fingers at once in anywhere but the lab, or God forbid, hold his whole hand, Hermann's ears might start emitting steam like something out of a cartoon. "It might be nice," he says again.
Laboratory Space D, Basement Level 1, is unique—Newt knows—in that Newt and Hermann's quarters are connected to it directly. None of the other labs have that luxury (and Newt has a feeling it's because Lab Space D wasn't actually intended as a lab space). He remembers being told that when they were shoved into it. Yeah, you have the darkest and tiniest lab space on base, but your rooms are right there! When Newt wants to go to Hermann's room, or if he's in Hermann's room and needs a sweatshirt or something from his own, he just has to step the three feet between their two doors. Moving labs could throw a wrench in that—they might be asked to move quarters, too, and might be shuttled to opposite sides of the Shatterdome, and though they could just bite the bullet and request couple's quarters already, it's nice to have their own spaces when they need it. That would never work. And, well, besides—the lab, their lab, feels like home to them at this point. Newt shrugs.
"On the other hand," Hermann says, and he taps Newt's pinkie lightly, "I quite like how things are. I can live with the damp, really."
"We can get a dehumidifier," Newt offers.
Hermann nods, and he gives Newt the barest hint of a smile.
Their monthly delivery of lab supplies—whatever they can afford with their shoestring budget, which, these days, mostly means chalk, rubber gloves, and nice instant ramen—comes three weeks later. Newt wouldn't exactly call the Shatterdome delivery guy a friend, seeing as he has yet to divulge his name to Newt (and also Newt's pretty sure he has a thing for Hermann, since he always seems to wait until Hermann is in the lab to stroll by with his package trolley and always calls him Dr. Gottlieb with big stupid heart eyes, oh, Dr. Gottlieb, that new sweater looks soooo nice on you!, so anyway, that makes him Newt's rival by default), but he, at least, recognizes and acknowledges Newt at this point. That's more than Newt can say for most people on the base. After his usual greeting to the two of them (hey, Newt, oh, hellllooo, Dr. Gottlieb, did you do something new with your hair?), he starts to unload their packages, also like usual.
"I was surprised to see that you guys are still down here," he tells Newt, not like usual. "Tendo mentioned something about you getting your own labs."
"He did?" Newt says, meaning to frown, but grinning instead. It's kind of fun to be the subject of gossip. He pulls off his gloves and tosses them in the trash to help with their supplies—the dehumidifier he requested should be in there, and it's fancy and definitely on the bigger side.
"Yeah," their delivery guy continues. He hands Newt a fuckin' massive brick of a package. Hermann's stupid chalk. The amount that Hermann tears through in a month really is astounding: Newt has a private theory that Hermann is an undercover space alien from a planet where chalk constitutes all of the primary food groups, and he secretly sneaks out here and eats it in the dead of night when Newt is asleep. "Anyway, sorry I'm late," the delivery guy says, as Newt imagines Hermann crunching on a piece of chalk like a carrot stick, "I went to all the other labs first."
"No worries, dude," Newt says. "Sorry for the confusion."
He lugs the package over to Hermann's desk, and drops it down on the only spot not over-cluttered with papers and books. Hermann complains about Newt's messiness a lot for a guy who is just as bad, if not worse. "Need any now?" Newt asks Hermann.
Hermann, scribbling away at his chalkboard, grunts. Newt decides that's a no.
"Hard at work, Dr. Gottlieb?" the delivery guy says, practically fluttering his eyelashes.
Another grunt. Newt snorts.
"I thought you guys would've moved right away," the delivery guy (obviously disappointed at Hermann's lack of attention) tells Newt. "Tendo mentioned you've been stuck together for a while, ever since some sort of dramatic confrontation at a conference ten years ago." he adds eagerly, "Did you really get thrown out? I don't know how you haven't killed each other yet."
"It's taken a lot of hard work," Newt says. Yeah, the whole being-ejected-from-the-conference-and-barred-from-all-future-ones-forever thing is technically true too, but everyone there was too stuffy and serious for Newt's fun vibes anyway, so he thinks it's their loss. The most important part of the scientific breakthrough process, Newt frequently thinks, was having someone there to challenge you and push back at you. Sometimes loudly. And in public. In the conference hall of a very expensive hotel, in front of all of your scientific peers, some hotel security guards, and a poor graduate student who made the mistake of asking you and your penpal-colleague for your joint opinion on something and got caught in the crosshairs. Besides—out of everyone at that stupid conference, Newt and Hermann were the only ones snapped up by the PPDC, so it's doubly their loss. "And, yeah, we got thrown out. Me and Hermann fight a lot, but we always make up eventually. It's no big deal. It's, like, our thing."
"Make up?"
Newt waggles his eyebrows and doesn't elaborate. The making up part is the best part of arguing with Hermann, honestly, but he's not about to go giving private details about stuff like that to his rival.
By the time Hermann finally descends his ladder, three hours have passed, and Newt is frowning over an email he's just gotten from Shatterdome HR. Hermann will probably see it in a second when he checks his own email—it was sent to both of them, after all—but Newt waves him over to his desk anyway. "Look," he says.
He draws out the spare chair he keeps by his desk (for Hermann), and Hermann drops into it gratefully, propping his cane up against the arm. Then Hermann pushes his glasses up onto his nose and scans the email with a frown of his own. Newt reads it aloud for him anyway. "'Subject: Quarters Reassignment,'" he says. "Dear Drs. Geiszler and Gottlieb: It has recently come to our attention that you will be transferring to Laboratories A&B. Should you wish to transfer quarters as well, you will find the necessary paperwork..."
"By Jove," Hermann groans, and pulls his glasses off again, smudging a bit of chalk on his cheek, "can't they just leave us alone?"
Newt laughs. "I'll tell them we're not interested. Wait, listen to this bit at the end: Congratulations—this must be a relief! Guess they were getting your complaint forms after all, Hermann." Both Newt and Hermann had long-since assumed that any and all official complaint forms stamped with a k-sci lab return address are filed right into the garbage. It's never deterred Hermann from sending them in, though.
"Hmph," Hermann says.
Newt carefully rolls his shirtcuff back down to his wrist and uses it to rub off Hermann's chalk smudge. When it's gone, or at least, mostly gone, he brushes his fingers back through Hermann's short hair. Hermann's eyelids flutter shut, and as he leans into Newt's touch, his creased forehead smooths just a little. "Mm. You're lovely," he murmurs. "We really ought to tell them we're married. It's gone on long enough."
"I guess," Newt says. "But it's kind of funny, isn't it?"

Human Alastor x reader playing Bowling? (Idk i just like that type of date hhaha) Maybe just them or maybe with friends
((>W>.............................. js I hate bowling. But I love you nonny, so for you..... I made this. ENJOY!! Sorry for the wait *cries*))
How goes bowling these days? Is that even still a thing? And why would anyone want to go bowling other than to drink? But no one drinks have the time... people just go for the pin and balls. Maybe it had to do with long and round phallic objects and balls rolling around. Regardless, your friends had dragged you to go bowling for whatever reason. And you decided to drag Alastor along because if you had to suffer, so did your boyfriend. It was also a bonus that he got along with your friends as well... some of them at least.
It was Charlie's idea mostly. She was someone who always wanted to go out and try new things. It was something she lived by apparently because this week's new activity was bowling at one of those dark neon allies with an arcade built-in. Charlie managed to talk her girlfriend, Vaggie, into coming too. Angel came because he also assumed there would be drinks but found out there wasn't a damn bar inside. You honestly had no idea how or why Husk was even there because he was completely and entirely miserable. If you had to guess it had something to do with you forcing Alastor to come.
Anyways, you and your little group of friends had found themselves staring down an alley with those silly little shoes on. Angel wouldn't wear his though, he wouldn't let their piss shade of yellow clash with his outfit.
You were sitting in plastic chairs next to Angel as you watched Charlie and Alastor go up next. You had two lanes so they went together. Angel sat next to you, he grabbed an arm behind you on the back of your chair and leaned in, "Five bucks says Allie gets the gutter," He whispered loud enough for Alastor to hear. You giggled as you saw your boyfriend's brow twitch and ignore the comment.
There was a second there that you were tempted to say something back to Angel but you were interrupted by the loud clash and computer saying "Strike!" You looked up and saw that Charlie was still holding her bowling ball. But walking away with a smirk on his face, Alastor's smug pride gleamed off him. The shock on everyone's face only made him boast to himself even more. When did Alastor find the time to get good at bowling.
As he sat down next to you, he threw Angel's arm away from you and replaced it with his own, though he was sure to wrap his fingers around your shoulder and bring you closer to him. He never liked Angel, and he was always so overly protective when it came to you anyways, so it wasn't welcomed that the boy was so close to you. Even if he was a guy. Competition is competition, it doesn't matter who they are, Alastor didn't like sharing you. Period.
"How... Did you do that?" You asked him.
Alastor shrugged and watched as Charlie threw her bowling ball right into the gutter, "I'm perfect at everything I do, dear." That was supposed to be satire.
Angel rolled his eyes and with a huff, he crossed his arms, "You can't fuck." He deadpanned.
Instincts kicked in and you ducked seconds before Alastor nearly climbed over you and punched Angel in the face. He missed and got him in the shoulder instead.
"Leave Alastor and his fuckless life alone," Husk said as he got up from his seat, "Some people are just better than the rest of us sexual deviants," He took his turn bowling soon after saying that. Vaggie went next as well. She choose to keep her mouth shut on all this.
But even Charlie had something to say, "Come on guys," She awkwardly waved her hands, trying to calm everyone down, "If you're going to fight take it outside this time. I don't want to get kicked out of another place of business..."
"He won't fight me, he'd know I'd deck him in the head and give 'em a one-two combo real quick like last time." Angel reminded everyone, and you all collectively remembered Angel clocked Alastor in the face at a bar after a heated argument. Alastor went out like a light and broke his nose on the way down. You looked at him and saw the little kink in his nose from that night.
You sighed and reached down into your pocket and pulled out your wallet. You grabbed a random twenty and handed it to Angel, "I'll give you this and two cigs if you go outside for ten minutes."
Angel gave you a snotty look, somewhat offended that you'd even offer such a thing. But he knitted his brows, snatched your twenty-dollar bill, and stole two cigarettes from the pack you left laying next to you on your seat, "I'm gonna find a bar on this fucking street- I'll be back later, losers."
You could still feel the rage simmer off Alastor even after Angel left. Though you didn't have time to say anything to him. It was your turn to go up. And now that Angel was gone, you didn't want to go up there and make a fool of yourself alone... Half your plan was to have Angel bowl next to you so that no one would notice how bad you were.
"Um-" You said as everyone waited for you to go, "I'd...uh... Um. I don't know hooow-" You were cut off as Alastor quickly got up and pulled you up with him.
He dragged you to the lane and got a bowling ball for you, "Hold this," He said. You noticed his anger from before had all but melted away. Alastor gave you a charming smile and stood beside you, "Copy me. Like when we dance."
You blinked at him a few times then did was he said. He held his hand up, pretending he had a ball. You copied him and did the same. He brought his hands to his chest, stepped forward, swung his arm back then forward again. You smiled at him and did the same, but you actually threw a ball. It rumbled down the lane and crashed into a couple pins. At least you didn't get the gutter.
"See? That easy," Alastor smiled at you. He place a hand on your arm and pressed a kiss on your cheek. He grabbed your hand in his and asked, "Do you want to see if they have any vending machines in the arcade? We can get some snacks?" Which was code for do you want to sneak away for a second?
"Sure," You quickly agreed while locking your fingers with his. The two of you scurried off with him. The second you were out of eyesight and safe behind a wall, Alastor gave you a more proper kiss.
He pulled away and asked, "Why did we come again?"
You shrugged, "Charlie asked." You simply said.
Alastor let out a huff then started walking with you towards the vending machines, "You can't really say no to someone like her..."
As you pulled out a few loose coins from your pocket and slipped them into the machine you laughed, "No, you can't." You both dearly loved your friendship with Charlie... But she could be a bit bossy sometimes.
The two of you collected an arm full of snacks and started walking back together, "Well, I say when we get home, we have a proper date."
You laughed and even lost a few snacks. You picked them up quickly and said, "You mean you cook us dinner and we watch a movie? That's not a proper date either, ya know."
Alastor smirked at you then nudged his arm into yours with a grin, "It is too because it'll be just us. Alone."
You rolled your eyes but still chuckled to yourself, "Alright, alright," You said, "What do you want to watch?"
He shrugged, "Don't care. I just want to make fried rice tonight."
You let out a huff of a laugh and passed out a snack to each of your friends while Alastor gave them a drink of some kind, "Fine. But I'm picking a TV show then because I just started watching something on Netflix."
"Aw, are you guys leaving?" Charlie asked with way too much sadness on her face.
"No, no-" You waved a hand slightly, "Alastor just doesn't think this is a proper date, so he has to make one up at home."
"What do you mean this isn't a proper date?" Vaggie threw a hand in the air, "All of us brought our partners! I mean- Angel left... So Husk is more like a third wheel at this point. This definitely counts as a group date or whatever."
"Call me old-fashioned, but you don't bring your friends on a date and there is no such thing as a group date," Alastor said as he cracked open a can of cola.
"What about a double date?" Husk asked from his seat while he tore open a bag of chips.
"This isn't a double date and even then those aren't real dates either. You're supposed to be somewhere nice, havea nice meal, share a few drinks. Share some stories and laughs with the one person you're interested in courting, then call it a night, done!" Alastor smiled to himself while everyone else collectively sighed. He was old-fashioned. (But you liked that about him.)
"This isn't 1955, Al. You can go on a date anywhere. Like here. What about going to the zoo? Could that be a date?" Vaggie asked.
Alastor thought about it, tapped a finger to his chin then gleefully said, "Nope! That's an outing!" Several people groaned but no one went on to feed into his banter.
You did hear Husk grumble under his breath "You need to go out to go on a date," But Alastor must have not heard it or choose to not say anything.
The rest of your night there wasn't that bad either. Angel did end up coming back, but not without his arms full of booze bottles of all kinds. They didn't serve drinks here but at least Angel was wise enough to buy some solo cups too. No one was really paying attention to the bowling anymore either. (You lost, not that you cared or anything.... You did.) Instead, you and your friends had gathered around in the arcade, drinking, laughing, playing games, and picking on each other harmlessly. You enjoyed every second of it, much to your surprise. Alastor did as well, though... He still insisted on his proper date once you got home.

6k words, Romance (Fluff/Angst), Royal AU, Enemies to Lovers, Beware of swearing
Crown Prince! Lee Minho X Crown Princess- Fem! Reader
Dear SKZ, with love with @districtninewriters
Music: Dynasty by MIIA, Ashes by Celine Dion, Speechless by Naomi Scott, Reflection by Christina Aguilera, My Tragedy by Taeyeon
A/N: HELLO I have been so excited to post this EHEHEHEHEHEH- Do let me know what you think of this fic, I’d love to hear feedback !! ONTO THE FIC!
Three soft knocks sounded outside your bedroom doors, prompting you to sit up and slip out of bed in a heartbeat. Sleep hadn’t been your best friend for a while, but there was a sense of peace in the mornings that couldn’t be found otherwise that had you waking up early anyway. The birds had just begun chirping with the sunrise, the first stirrings of the maids and servants causing quiet rustles outside your door.
Pulling a satin robe over your nightdress, you opened the door and ushered Han Jisung into your bedroom, taking a seat at your vanity. “What brings you here so early, Ji?” “This came in for you a few hours ago,” your closest confidante and cousin murmured, pulling out something from inside his jacket pocket and handing it over to you.
You studied the envelope you were holding, flipping it over a few times in your hands. The quality of the paper was nicer than normal, almost like whatever was inside was more important than just a regular letter. You weren’t expecting anything, let alone important or special. But it was definitely your name on the front. In a forcefully familiar, neat cursive you had been trying all too hard to forget. “It’s from Eriant’s crown prince.” Jisung sidled closer to you, his eyes glazed in simultaneous sleep and concern. Your eyebrows arched in mild annoyance as you frowned. “I thought I told the Court of Letters to burn anything from this sender.” “It…came with another letter. From Eriant’s King. ” Your ears perked at the weary concern coating Jisung’s rounded syllables. Nodding at him to speak, you let your fingers trace over the handwriting, momentarily thrown off by the memories that came flooding back to you with the sender- “Your father the King had you betrothed to the Crown Prince to repay the war debts.”
An outraged screech escaped your lips before you could reel it in, your lips stretching back in a furious snarl. Jisung strolled to the tea table for some hot chocolate, absolutely unfazed; he was expecting things to be thrown so this was a rather tame reaction in retrospect. Your hands crumpled the letter despite the weight and thickness, the scrawl disappearing in your clenched hands.
“The day men stop controlling my life is the day I will wipe my hands clean of them all.” You hissed between deep breaths. “Who does he think he is? Does he think he can coerce me into taking him back with a sham of a marriage?”
Ripping open the crumpled envelope, you pulled out the single leaf of heavy paper parked with the Eriant crest and the Crown Prince’s coat of arms- so he’d truly deigned to write to you himself. Jisung leaned closer to read the words in the letter, eyes narrowed and then wide as they scanned the contents.
“Apologies for the inconvenience… Betrothed to be married…moving to the castle… IN 2 DAYS?!” Your voice creaked and broke at the pitch of your furious scream, Jisung flinching from his proximity to your anger.
So much for peaceful mornings.
//
“The Eriant party is here, Your Majesty.” The Prime Minister whispered to your father, your ears perking at the heads-up. So, it was time. Court was well underway, the sun reaching the highest point in the sky outside the arched windows, the air dotted with murmurs and conversation.
“Allow them in,” The King responded before his sharp gaze landed on you. “Behave in a manner befitting of the future queen, daughter.” A blank stare was what he got in return, an eyebrow arched in polite derision. Despite making it abundantly clear that you were not interested in marrying the Eriant prince and would do everything in your power to put the wedding to a standstill, your father had refused to oblige.
“You were courting the prince but a year ago, daughter,” your father shouted, the maids in the corner cowering from his dangerous timbre. But you stood tall, teeth bared in a snarl of your own. “Things change in a year, father!” You exclaimed, the first embers of desperate anger sparking alive. “He’s aimless, a man of pointless rebellion. I don’t wish to be shackled to a man like that, especially one who will be my king, Velairen’s King!” “The Crown Prince has reformed his past rebellious ways. I’m sure you of all people understand reform and poor judgement, daughter.” A wildfire quickly spread across your head, your heart, burning your cheeks and fingertips and spine- “You will NOT dangle my past over my head and I will NOT marry Lee Minho. He is below me.” There was not a chance in hell that you would allow himself to be wed to him, not after everything that happened-No. No- But your father had pulled himself to his full height, the king’s authority ringing darkly in the wood panels of his study like an unbreakable decree. “You do not have a choice.”
“What do you mean, father?” you sneered, taking no small amount of delight in the quicksilver fury that passed by his eyes. “I am but a gift mare in your lost game, am I not?”
“You-” “Presenting the Princes of Eriant and their travelling party.” The herald’s loud voice cut across your father’s likely vicious response and you turned away to face the Courtroom.
Your back straightened against the back of your throne, skirts rustling quietly as you crossed your legs, wayward thoughts eddying and swirling in your mind. There was no way you were letting this accursed wedding happen, damn your father and his decisions-
The large double doors loomed open at the other end of the courtroom, revealing a group of people dressed in the navy blue, brown and silver- Eriant’s colours. The party moved into the hall, walking down the centre aisle to you, stopping a few feet shy of the steps to the thrones. There was an oddly heavy silence that rung through the walls of the Courtroom, almost like the attendees were holding their breath.
At the head of the party stood two young men, both wearing identical smiles of sheer irreverence. One was taller than the other, his hair a mess of inky black against his forehead. Quicksilver eyes met yours for a split second before your gaze met the other- your heart skipped a beat.
He was exactly as you remembered, but somehow older. The same sharp nose and jaw, but his stance was no longer hunched and defensive- he stood tall, shoulders straight, chin up… like a king. He had dark chocolate coloured hair now, parted messily to reveal one part of his forehead. Charcoal eyes that twinkled exactly the way you remembered- no. You wouldn’t remember. Never again.
Princes Minho and Seungmin stepped in front of the party, bowing neatly to you and your father. “Welcome to Velairen, Princes.” “The pleasure is ours, Your Majesty.” Seungmin’s smile widened as he bowed his head to you. “And you, Your Highness. Your agreement to this union is a matter of great honour for Eriant.”
Your eyebrows knitted scornfully, a soft scoff escaping your lips before you could control it. However, the words that left you were light in their countenance, easy and amused and just the right amount of coy. “One would think I was marrying you, Prince Seungmin, and not the Heir apparent who is yet to speak for himself.” The court and the Eriant party dissolved into amicable laughter, and the silence was broken. A small smile curled your lips as Lee Minho’s eyes landed on you. You held his gaze, deliciously cold and unfamiliar. You would not appear weak, not in front of him. Never again. “Heir apparent and your future queen’s betrothed.” The King stood from his throne amidst surprised gasps, the court’s attention now speared on him. “Because 3 months from now, your crown princess will be wed to Eriant’s first prince, a historical union between two ally countries-”
Before he could speak further, the court erupted into joyous celebration, the sounds of happiness ringing in your ears. You smiled widely, the picture-perfect bride-to-be and queen-to-be as you stood up and bowed to the revelling crowd.
From an outside point of view, the betrothal definitely did look like the dream alliance come true. Velairen and Eriant had been allies ever since the inception of the two countries, controlling the continent’s coastline together. During Velairen’s war with the inland desert tribes, Eriant sent troops and funds from their depthless coffers to aid Velairen’s victory. While your country won the war, the lands suffered from famine, bad trade and mourning- no way to repay Eriant for their loan….so here you were, pretending to be the blushing paragon of a happy bride. Pretending that you wanted to marry a snake in a fancy crown.
Sighing internally, you smoothed your skirts out as you sat down again, barely listening to your father’s emotional and thankful speech in honour of the many times Eriant has come to your country’s help and now, you get to repay them in kind with the hand of Velairen’s future queen. A hand that would never touch the prince’s, if you had anything to do with it-
“Thank you for the welcome, Your Majesty.” Lee Minho’s voice was like a jolt of recognition you would sell your soul to forget. “In honour of our betrothal, I have a small gift from Eriant’s treasury, for the newest jewel of our family. May I?”
You could have sworn you heard the ladies-in-waiting sigh dreamily amongst the courtiers, but all you could feel was belated disgust. Despite your inner turmoil, you smiled sweetly at him as your father nodded and let Minho walk up the steps to stop in front of your throne- where your skirts stopped. Too close for comfort.
You gulped as Minho’s clove and mint scent surrounded your senses, painfully familiar. Going down on one knee in front of you, he opened a black velvet box to reveal...fire. Your breath caught in your throat as you unconsciously put a hand out to run your finger over the row of twinkling red gemstones were inlaid into the white-gold ring…This ring had bottled a wildfire in it. “This is beautiful…” You breathed despite yourself, almost forgetting who was to slip that ring on your finger until-
“Of course, I chose it.” Minho grinned up at you, razor-sharp and devious- and you were brought back to reality. This wasn’t a true engagement. It never would be. You were nothing but one acquisition of many for Eriant, a conquest for its unruly crown prince.
“Thank you, Your Highness,” you murmured soullessly amidst the merrymaking that had ensued throughout the court at the sight of the two young royals together. You didn’t pretend to sound like anything you didn’t feel like- there was nobody listening anyway. Minho’s eyes darkened as he saw your enamoured expression shutter into a blandly happy mask as he slipped the ring onto your left hand.
“Glad you like it.” He said as he got to his feet, bowing his head to you and you raised your eyebrows, a small smile still playing at your lips. To anybody else, it would have looked bashful and happy, but Minho knew better- that smile was a promise of dark things waiting to happen. “What’s another ring in a queen’s trousseau?”
//
“Why aren’t you ready yet?” Jisung’s exasperated voice sounded from outside your bedroom, prompting you to giggle aloud as you reclined on an armchair fully dressed, an open book placed on your lap. You had been reading and oh, how unfortunate that-
“It’s only a meeting with my betrothed, cousin dearest,” you responded, closing the book and getting to your feet. “I’m sure he can wait for me.”
“You’re almost an hour late!!” your cousin exclaimed, pounding on the door once more. “I’m not going to be fired by Uncle for your impertinent behaviour, so you better haul your royal ass out before I pick the lock and drag you downstairs by your ears!”
“Tsk, such a killjoy.” you purred, walking to your bedroom door and pulling it open, smile only widening at the sight of a red-cheeked, annoyed Han Jisung. “After his betrayal with this betrothal, I could ask for moon cheese and my father would have to oblige. You’re stuck with me, cousin dearest.”
“You and I both know you’re stalling because you’re scared of looking Minho in the eye, so drop the act, will you?” Jisung responded brusquely, rolling his eyes. A shiver tracked down your spine, unbeknownst to your cousin. He wasn’t wrong.
The Eriant party had taken up comfortable residence in… you guessed it, the princess’ wing. Your wing. And yet, you had managed to avoid Minho over the past week as he got accustomed to his new temporary residence and explored the capital city. Seungmin had caught your eye a few times, bowing his head and smirking as you passed him by. Minho, however… if anything, you were fairly sure he was avoiding you himself, judging from how atrociously easy it was to avoid him despite living in the same wing.
“A queen doesn’t act; others are just judgemental.” You scoffed dramatically, looping an arm around Jisung’s, giggling at the exaggerated huff that left your cousin’s lips. “The things I do for family.” He grumbled, letting you drag him out of your drawing room and into the corridors, a grateful smile quirking your lips.
Jisung had been your closest friend since you could remember- he had seen you grow up from an unruly, spiteful little princess into a dignified royal. At least for appearance’s sake. He knew how pained you were after the events that began your enmity with Eriant’s crown prince, the nights you’d spent staring into the night with nobody but the moon for company. You knew he had your best interests at heart- Jisung would not watch you hurt because of Lee Minho again.
“The Princess is here,” Jisung announced as you stepped into the room, your gait slow and casual. Instantly, you could sense the frustration the Crown Prince was exuding- you coughed a giggle into your hand at the sight of Minho’s furrowed brows and gritted teeth.
“Sorry I’m a little late,” you apologised airily as you slid into a chair, nodding to Seungmin and the blonde boy you recognized as the Eriant ambassador to Velairen, Lee Felix. “I got caught up in a prior commitment.” Jisung took a seat next to you, leaving you seated between him and Seo Changbin- the Minister of the Treasury and another of your close friends. The Eriant princes and Felix were seated opposite to the three of you on the long conference table, Minho directly opposite to you. Changbin dropped a quick kiss onto your cheek after you settled yourself onto the chair.
“Was the commitment of a literary nature?” he murmured, prompting you to laugh heartily. “Oh, you know me too well, dearest.” The incredulous glare Minho was giving you wasn’t lost on you- he was making no attempt to hide his emotions, it seemed. “Can we get the proceedings started now?” You asked pleasantly. “Unlike some crown princes who can loaf their lives away, I have places to be.”
The stab of amusement that tingled your spine at Minho’s affronted expression was too satisfying to let go of. He made it too easy, offending him. Seungmin coughed into his hand, a cough that sounded suspiciously like a laugh, his silver eyes twinkling in amusement. “Of course, Your Highness,” he said, his voice deep and as pleasant as yours.
“Before anything, can we drop the honorifics? If we are to be family, honorifics mean nothing.”
A scoff escaped Minho’s lips at your request and you levelled a stare at him, bordering on ice cold. “Of course you’d want to drop the honorifics, Princess.” Minho’s voice matched you for bland pleasantry- “You’re getting married above your station after all, to a country bigger and better than yours will ever be.” And finally, the snake spits its venom.
Before you could snarl a furious response, Jisung and Changbin’s hands caught each of yours, squeezing in a warning. Not now, they seemed to say. Not now, you can rip into him later.
Teeth gritted, you turned your attention to Felix, who seemed to be cursing his luck for getting him caught in this royal crossfire. “You were saying, Ambassador?” You prompted him, pointedly ignoring Minho’s jab. Felix started and sat up straight, clearing his throat. “Yes, so, this meeting was to figure out your public appearances for the next 4 months.” Oh, stars. “Jisung and I will be managing your appearances and schedules for the next few months. On an average, you two will have to be seen together at least thrice a week- balls, charities, union meetings…wedding shopping.” He choked out and almost instantly, Minho rolled his eyes.
“Judging by the…animosity, can being cordial to each other in public be an acceptable request of the two of you?” Felix’s eyes flitted between the two of you nervously. Poor boy, he must be getting paid handsomely to put up with these rich brats. A pleasant smile lit up your face, reaching out to pat Felix’s hand where it was resting on the table. “Don’t worry, Felix. I’m not much trouble. I can manage myself in public.” Almost instantly, Felix relaxed, an uncertain smile passing across his features- “Of course she can, pretending is the only thing she does decently.”
Changbin’s hand tightened around yours, while Jisung’s grip loosened. Minho was treading the line between impoliteness and disrespect and it was clear that Jisung already had had enough of him. Still, you continued to ignore him, opting to turn to your cousin.
“What’s the first schedule we have together?” Saying the words left such a bitter taste in the back of your tongue. “Your mother The Queen’s picnic with high society at high noon tomorrow. That’s your formal introduction into the society, princes,” Jisung nodded to Minho and Seungmin, before turning to Felix. “We’d appreciate it if we get this meeting over with as soon as possible, we have a meeting with the ministry right after this.” You pursed your lips in amusement; Jisung really didn’t like Minho. You didn’t have anything scheduled after this but a peaceful afternoon in the gardens.
Minho coughed into his tea, a jeer barely hidden behind the teacup and this time, you let your chilling stare bore into him, an eyebrow raised. “Do you have anything to say that contributes to this conversation?”
He smirked, setting his teacup down. “You’ve not changed a bit, have you.” Changbin’s eyes narrowed at the disdainful undertones on his voice, but you surreptitiously patted the top of his hand before steepling your fingers on top of the table. “What makes you think so, Minho?” “You’re still the people pleasing little girl who waltzed every night away with different men. You’re still no better than a lowly courtesan, vying for a richer man’s attention-“
A gasp cut off his venomous words, his eyes betraying the pure rage coursing through his system at the sight and sensation of cold tea soaking the front of his clothes but before he could say another word- A resounding smack sent his head reeling to the side, the sheer force leaving his ears ringing. You knelt on top of the table in front of him, your teeth gritted in a barely restrained anger- the sheer fucking audacity -
Jisung, Changbin, Seungmin and Felix had shot to their feet in shock, only watching as you caught the front of blazer and brought him closer to your face, eyes not leaving his. “You never knew anything about me, Lee Minho,” You murmured softly. “You never did, you never will.” Jisung and Changbin had reached over to catch each of your shoulders, gently hauling you back from Minho but your fingers tightened on the lapels of his blazer, pulling him to his feet and halfway over the table with you. “So don’t sit there with your holier-than-thou attitude and think that I will take it lying down. I am not your doormat, but I have no qualms making you mine.”
Minho collapsed onto his seat as Jisung and Changbin dragged you over the table and set you on the floor, your chest still heaving slightly. Almost immediately, Jisung pulled you towards the double doors you had entered through, Changbin bowing before heading behind the both of them. Seungmin coughed when the doors closed behind the three of them. “That’s her, huh.”
Minho let out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding, a hiss escaping his teeth when his brother’s cool fingers prodded his cheek where she’d slapped him. She was just as he remembered- a spitfire with unexplained elegance, a hurricane barely contained in human skin. She was exactly as his dreams painted her to be for the past year, so fiery and real…a human embodiment of the ring he had gotten made for her. The regret that had racked his system for a year pricked the back of his eyes and he blinked aggressively, willing the emotions away from his face.
She hated him for his reckless behaviour. She would never trust him again after the way he had behaved with her back then- betrothal, marriage or a shared crown be damned. “Yes, that’s her.” //
“Felix, you are excused. Ji, I’ll drop by your chambers later. Leave us alone for a bit.”
You growled the second your drawing room door closed behind the both of you as well as Jisung and Felix. The four of you and Seungmin had been at the Minister of Foreign affairs’ charity ball that evening, so you were all dressed in Lord Hyunjin’s chosen dress code- black and gold.
Minho had been watching you rather oddly at the beginning of the night but you’d chosen to pointedly ignore them, as you always did. Hyunjin had swept you into his arms for your first dance, the most gracious host honouring the lovely crown princess. He had held you close as you chuckled and laughed against his shoulder, thoroughly enjoying your childhood friend’s talent in dance and his innate ability to set the most stressful situations at ease.
When you turned back to your…your fiancé, however, he had taken up residence in the midst of a gaggle of ladies, all giggling and preening around him. You had pushed down the raging fire taking root at the pit of your stomach and stalked to him, asking for a dance- only to be ignored, dismissed with nary but a second glance from Minho. You had been saved from humiliation by a dark-eyed Jisung, who had swooped in and taken your outstretched hand, leading you into an easy waltz. What happened next, however…
“I’ve about had it with you for the past month, you prick,” Turning and advancing on Minho, you pushed him back with two hands on his chest. He stumbled and quickly straightened himself, a haze of anger numbing his own senses.
“Well, you really want to duke it out now, fine. Let’s talk.” Minho crossed his arms. Your face burned with a barely restrained annoyance and for a second, Minho’s heart sank. Had he crossed a line today?
The past month had been torturous for the ‘happy couple’. Velairen was overjoyed to see the queen-to-be and her beloved fiancé stepping into the limelight almost every other day, their love a picture-perfect union. You had laughed and smiled at Minho, let your fingers brush his knuckles and grip his arm, let him lead you in dances and feed you cupcakes at every ball and celebration you could humanly attend together.
Minho, to his credit, had played along. He never failed to offer you his arm on walks, always helped you fix your outfits, dropped ‘secret’ kisses against your cheek and temple, soft and loving and the paragon of a fiancé in love.
But little did Velairen know, the war that the ‘happy couple’ waged behind the scenes. How your hands would always clutch Minho’s bicep a touch too roughly, almost enough for him to wince. How you would deliberately step on his toes mid-dance and giggle airily, apologizing and shying away like a bashful bride. How Minho would trip you on walks and then proceed to catch you, cursing the cobblestones in the most gallant manner. How he would butt into your conversations with dukes and have ‘politely flirty’ conversation with the fawning ladies-in-waiting. Tonight, however…
“Do I really have to go over how much of an absolute ass you looked like in the ball tonight? How you undermined me?”
Minho scoffed, rolling his eyes. “You were the one simpering and falling all over that Lord Hyunjin.”
“He’s like my brother, you possessive idiot!” You threw your arms up in exasperation. “And I can’t bring myself to care about you going around behaving like a man whore. Just try to be a little discreet about it, will you?”
Deep down, your words hit Minho with shards of hurt. Was that how low you thought of him? Despite the bile and nausea that rose to his throat at the thought, he swallowed, before speaking again.
“If that’s not your concern, then what is? The tripping? Surely you’re not that juvenile. You had your revenge on my toes for that-“ “You undermined me in front of the FUCKING MINISTRY!” Your voice rose to a yell and Minho pursed his lips. He truly had crossed a line tonight. You continued, your voice still loud and furious.
“You told the fucking Minister of Education that the only reason I have a crown on my head is because of my blood and not my capability.” You fumed. “I should have you thrown into the dungeons for your thoughtless impertinence.” And the anger came rushing back to his body, replacing any semblance of regret he harboured for his (albeit) false words.
“You don’t have the authority to do that, princess,” he spat out the last word like a mockery of it’s meaning and you stiffened, your vision going red.
“The only thing royal about you is your royal ego, Minho.” You snarled at him. “You’re in my palace. My turf. I can do whatever I wish to you, short of pulling your tongue out.” “Like you can afford to hurt me in any way,” Minho scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Eriant would have your head if I went back disfigured.”
“That’s what you do best, don’t you?” You grinned mockingly, crossing your arms. “Hide behind your country’s prestige like a little boy.” Minho’s eyes darkened, his jaw tight in anger but you found yourself still talking, letting the words slip out of you unrestrained.
“You don’t know a thing about the power you hold other than lording it over people’s heads, PLEASE,” you spit, prodding his chest with a finger. “don’t think, even for a second, that I will ever take you or this sham of an engagement I’m trapped in seriously.”
Turning your back on him, you stalked to the low tea table and poured yourself some water in a bid to calm yourself, when Minho let out a derisive laugh behind you. “There it is. You’re trapped in this engagement? Do you ever think about the unfortunate souls that have to deal with your narcissistic self?” Your fingers tightened around the glass; you would not respond with the anger he was asking- no, begging for any further. “Everything is about you, isn’t it? Your betrothal, your crown, your country, your ice-cold heart and your inability to love-“
Judging from the way your body stilled, he knew he’d touched a nerve. But when you turned to face him, Minho was not prepared to see tears lining your red-rimmed eyes. He didn’t expect the sight to affect him the way it did, feel like his heart had just dropped a thousand feet, heavy and regretful.
“Is that what you think?” “I-I just-“Minho sucked in a deep breath, an attempt to calm the ice-cold panic that was seeping into his veins. “That crossed a boundary. My apologies. I did not mean to say that.”
You only scoffed tearfully in response, a…no, that wasn’t a smile, that was an unfeeling curl of your lips that couldn’t be deigned a smile. “You wouldn’t have said that had you not thought it true, Minho.”
Suddenly you weren’t the headstrong, stubborn, reckless girl Minho was used to seeing, the one with a viper tongue and wolves’ claws. Suddenly, you were the teenager who was used to getting what she wanted, even in the realm of love- the young girl who laid her eyes on men and ladies who fascinated you and did all you could to claim them. Suddenly, you were the young princess who had laid eyes on a young Lee Minho and had instantly wanted him- the blooming young lady new to high society, having eyes only for the rebellious, sharp-tongued, young prince with a smile that could fell kingdoms.
The queen-to-be who never really stopped having eyes only for the king-to-be.
“You found it so easy to dismiss me as a player, a royal rake with no human feeling whatsoever, didn’t you?” You laughed humourlessly, brushing past Minho to flop on the drawing room couch. His eyes followed you, his place at the edge of the rug still unchanged.
“You made it easy to do that, princess,” Minho murmured, his voice soft, placating, hesitant- almost like he was treading a thin line between setting off your anger or god forbid, hurt you again. “Your reputation preceded you.”
“My reputation painted me without virtue, without honour but it didn’t paint me without a heart, prince.” To that, Minho had no answer. The fight left his body, his shoulders slumped in defeat. His body steered him to the armchair next to you, sinking onto the plush cushions. “You’re right.”
“You heard a part of one conversation I had with a lady-in-waiting who wanted to bed you and instantly assumed you were yet another conquest for me.” You pulled your body upright, your tear-streaked face at odds with your pin-straight back and upright chin. This was a future queen in front of him, Minho realized. A queen who had stood trial for her poor decisions in the past and had never shirked into the darkness in fear of being wrong.
“I told her you were my conquest and that you were already crawling into bed with me so that she wouldn’t hound you. Because-“ you gulped, before spitting out the words that choked you on the way out. “Because I was jealous.” Oh.
“I was jealous because I saw you dally with that lady-in-waiting before…before we began courting. I didn’t want you to see how- I didn’t want you to see all the beauties Velairen had to offer and decide I wasn’t it for you. And that thought terrified me.” Oh. Oh.
“I’ll admit, I- I courted you only out of curiosity for your pretty face- But I swear, when I spoke to that noble, I already knew I was in love with you. Had been for a while. Those 3 months of courting you was probably the most- the only time courting felt right.” Well, damn.
Every cruel word he’d thrown at you after eavesdropping on that fateful conversation and the past month…it was all for naught. You had never been the rake, the rebellious player that rumor and reputation painted you out to be. His insult to your character a year ago was what pushed you away from him, unhesitatingly having chosen yourself over a prince who clearly didn’t know enough about you. “I love you.”
A sharp intake of breath was the only response Minho received in response to his blurted confession, your eyes wide with disbelief. “You what?” “I love you. I always have.” Minho’s mouth worked on instinct now, pouring out the words that had been brewing in the back of his mind for a year, weighed down by guilt, regret, embarrassment-
“I panicked when I heard you tell that noble that I was nothing but a conquest. I thought I was more to you. I wanted to be more to you, but there you were, making it abundantly clear that you weren’t. I panicked. The things I said, I didn’t mean a single word of them. Not a single one of them.”
Minho risked a glance at you, Your jaw was slack in surprise, your eyes still wide, fingers still clutching your dark skirts tightly, like you were struggling to stay in reality. The expression enough was almost enough for him to mentally slap himself to shut up, but he was beyond silence now-
“This betrothal was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. It brought me back to you. But when I saw the hatred you still had for me…I didn’t know how else to respond to your jibes. I’m truly sorry about all of it.
“I know my apology doesn’t take back all the absolutely shitty things I’ve said. I won’t expect you to take me back after everything. But could I…could I ask you for another chance?” and out of instinct, his body moved to kneel on one knee in front of you, a choked sob escaping your lips. “Minho-“
“Let me prove to you that I- I mean what I said. Because I do, I really do.” Minho’s hand curled around yours, the hand you wore the ring Minho had given you. “Will you…will you let me prove it to you?” A beat of silence turned to two, three, ten… “Yes.”
//
“JISUNG! Seungmin’s shadowing us!” You called out, chuckling when you heard the amused groan from behind the curtains. The second Eriant prince slinked out and threw you a two fingered salute, his eyes twinkling. You responded in kind, winking at him as he slipped out of your drawing room, just as Jisung walked in from your bedroom, arms laden with boxes. “Stay out of the bride’s room, best man!” Jisung yelled to the open drawing room door, only getting a distant chuckle and a resounding NO in response.
“He idolizes your rake phase.” Jisung grumbled, carefully placing the boxes on the tea table as you laughed aloud, crossing your legs. “And here I was, thinking he was just spying on me for his brother.”
“Well, that too.” Changbin grinned as he walked into your drawing room with Hyunjin, each with a gift box in hand. “My my, for all the love I’m receiving, I should have gotten married earlier!” You grinned, rising to pull both the Ministers into a hug. “Don’t flatter yourself, this is only going to last for the next hour.” Hyunjin stuck his tongue out, ruffling your hair affectionately. “When you get back from Eriant after the tour, you’re going to be treated as woefully normal. As Queen and not Minho’s Wife.” Minho’s wife. The words still sent a giddy jolt down your spine.
True to his words that night, Minho had proved his love to you, a little by little, day by day. This time, there was no misunderstanding and oh, the way his love bloomed. He greeted you with love letters with your morning tea and later, forehead kisses and lazy cuddles in bed.
He had taken his word very seriously and stoutly refused to speak against you for another month until you goaded him into banter again, stating that his sharp tongue was just another thing you adored about him.
Which was why you didn’t have to hesitate when he proposed marriage to you yet again, in the royal garden amongst red roses and white lilies, moonlight striking your happy tears as you said the magic word- “Yes.”
Life was a little brighter now. Not from hate, no. This time, from love. From Minho.

Can you tell us more about Katsura and her relationships with Shino? :)
Well this came out longer than expected BUT it is sectioned (not proof read, so oops). Hope you enjoy 🖤
About Katsura
For starters, she’s very aware that she’ll never be this great kunoichi. She’s not from a major clan that has special techniques, her chakra is barely above average, and her size is a disadvantage.
So to compensate for what she sees as short comings; She trains, studies, and tries to keep up with her teammates/not be a burden.
Will train with her sister even past her team training exercises.
Katsura is very logical about things. There’s always a logical explanation or way of handling things.
Loves writing and will carry a notebook to write in wherever she may go.
She also enjoys dressing up just because on her off days.
Doesn’t want anyone to look at her though. It’s annoying and uncomfortable to her when people she doesn’t know pay her too much attention.
She isn’t proud of it, but she has played dumb and showed some skin to get information on missions. It’s amazing how idiotic some people are over cleavage 💀
Very envious of civilians with soft hands and has definitely invested in creams to try and help with her callouses
She has been helping at her grandparents bakery from time to time for as long as she can remember.
Its one of the reason she bakes so much. She doesn’t want to get rusty~ the other is it seems to make her friends happy.
Never had a crush before Shino and just assumed she wasn’t capable of feeling like that. Genuinely curious how people can just develop crushes on people they don’t really know.
Gets really excited when one of the beetles she raises does well/finds a mate. Like she is so proud of her beetle-companion.
Also gets very upset if it gets flung off a branch by its competitor or mate. She will pout and try to soothe said beetle-companion.
Beyond ticklish. Tries to hide it but even the slightest playful touch of her neck will have her laughing and snorting.
Touch starved, honestly. Will never admit it but she loves hugs. They make her feel warm and fuzzy.
She doesn’t remember her mother at all because she was so young when she passed away, but she still will visit her grave to ask her to watch over her father. He’s getting old and he’s still a recluse.
Absolute morning person and likely to want to crash before 8 pm if she’s not on a mission
Poisonous~ no but fr, she’s crafted her own poison to coat her sword in
Her sword is her baby. Custom made just for her by her father. No one is allowed to handle it for the previous reason.
How It Started
When she met Shino, it was simply by chance. Her dad told she was small but strong like a beetle.
And unfortunately, the beetle he compared her too got away before she could observe it and collect information on it properly.
So she went searching for her escaped beetle and ran into Shino.
Who told her he had no seen that bug but told her where can probably find one.
She was highly insulted but her father raised her not to let her emotions take control of her actions
So she let it go (sort of) and followed his advice. Which did lead her to her first pet beetle
After that, she made a point of saying hi or waving to Shino whenever she’d see him around for helping her out.
And they built a friendship over the years and all was fine with the world. They’d go bug hunting and Shino became someone she really respected and enjoyed talking to.
She could listen to him talk about insects all day because he sort of lights up and his knowledge was pretty impressive
And his voice is nice too~
Also, she really liked his dad too. He was so kind and even accepted cookies she had baked for Shino before realizing he was on a mission.
She totally loves Shinos bugs (before she realized she loved Shino)! even asked their names. Not that she would remember all of them or even recognize one from the other, she was just very curious about these special little guys.
It took the coming of war for her to realize just how much Shino actually meant to her.
And she didn’t expect to survive the war either. So she put all her feelings in an origami beetle that she gave to Shino.
It wasn’t like anyone unfolds them anyways, so it’s safe.
But by some miracle, they both survive.
Now she’s blushing heavily whenever he’s around because ‘oh no’, yes she’s always been aware his conventionally good looking but this feeling keeps growing and now his looks are a burden on her heart and mind
She was honestly pretty embarrassed about that origami beetle he still has sitting a little too close to light for her comfort.
All it would take is for him to look at it in the light to see her confession and she’s not even supposed to be alive to face this possibility.
Tried asking her father what he liked about her mother and none of that matched her (soft figure and extroverted bubbly personality) and Aori gave her ‘the talk’ while completely red faced.
And once she told her teammates, they basically told her to stop being a chicken and just tell him how she feels.
now Katsura does find that just telling him would be the most logical thing to do… but it’s easier said than done.
What if he doesn’t feel the same? Can they still be friends?
Shino pricked up on her not so subtle changes in behavior and wasn’t sure what to make of it.
She’s standing closer, stealing glances when she thinks he’s not looking, jumping a bit when he’d call her name, blushing and losing train of thought whenever their hands accidentally brush, etc.
He’s almost certain he knows what all this means, but maybe it’s just wishful thinking?
Katsura has always smiled easily for him and never seemed to forget him no matter how long it took for them to see each other again.
Maybe it was the way she always was so proud to show him her latest beetle she nurtured from larval or how she seriously always told his beetles to take care of him for her before any missions no matter how small.
Perhaps it was the fact that she always told him she thought he was amazing
Maybe it was the way they both could comfortably enjoy each other’s company without words
Or maybe the way she fussed over the children’s novel she was writing.
The way she always made sure other acknowledged him in group settings by mentioning him or asking him questions.
Her snorting laugh that she’s so embarrassed about had grown on him too. Also made it easy to find her
But at some point he’d developed a crush of his own, so it would be great if she felt the same.
It’s not until Kiba discovers the origami beetle and ask who gave him the love letter
Shino’s like… love letter?
Kiba holding it up to the light so Shino can faintly see the writing in it.
Kiba guesses it’s probably from that mean little thing that always seems to be around Shino these days. In fact, he’s pretty sure it’s her because of the faint scent still on it.
Shino looks calm on the surface but inside, Shino.exe has stopped working. Some quite a few bugs are escaping and kiba is cackling because he f**kin’ KNEW IT!!
Now they’re both acting strangely with each other trying to figure out their timing but what better timing than during one of their forest walks?
Shino waits until they’re absolutely alone (None of his bugs spotted Katsura’s nosy teammates) and Katsura is distracted by if her beetle is ready to find a mate/leave home.
She’s humming to herself that this one doesn’t seem to want to leave when Shino murmurs he can’t blame the little guy. He wouldn’t want to leave her side either.
Queue Katsura turning red and telling him not to joke like that, because she might get the wrong idea.
He tilted his head before asking her why would joke about that? He likes her, and the rest was a blur as her heart was beating too loud to hear everything he said outside of the end of his confession.
Of course she said yes too loudly and then asked him to repeat what he said because she wants to know remember his words forever 🥰
Them as a couple
Once they become official, nothing much changes honestly
They still go on bug hunts and walks in the forest, but will to hold hands while doing these things now.
Shino isn’t into too much PDA of course, but he doesn’t mind her cuddling up to him in private. In fact he welcomes it.
Katsura is the first one to say ‘I love you’ and she’s not shy about saying it.
Will leave him notes to read each day if either one of them has a particularly long mission. (they are numbered and yes she expects him to wait and read them)
He’s also been the subject of several questionable dishes because baking is her thing, not cooking. She is very sorry, Shino.
They both decided she should to stick to cookbooks for awhile after the last random dish
Garden picnics are something they both enjoy whenever their schedules allow and Katsura actually knows how to prepare foods for such an occasion
Shino will have a few more butterflies than normal join them because he knows it will make her smile.
Took them awhile to share a passionate kiss because, they’re both patient types and were waiting on the other to take the lead
But once they did and she heard his beetles buzzing— and he sighed against her lips that was it, she practically jumped on top of him and then apologized profusely later
Shino knows she’s capable, but will still get things down from higher shelves for her.
Katsura loves tracing shapes in Shino’s palms and can/will fall asleep holding his hand. His hands are always so warm and calming to her
She knitted them matching sweaters for winter because she really liked the idea. They didn’t turn out perfect but Shino wore his anyways and made her whole day!
Shino was very supportive of Katsura retiring to take a bigger role at her grandparents bakery and pursue writing. It’s something she always enjoyed and he’s ngl, the thought of them having more time together made him happy.
Katsura was also very supportive of Shino becoming a sensei! What a cute job and she could get intel of what kids may be interested
Both of them would still rather eat at home but will go with their friends. Katsura is more likely to convince Shino it’s good to socialize every once in awhile… although if he wants her to be more selfish with him, she will gladly do so~
Overall just a really sweet couple that’s over the moon about each other 🖤

Would you maybe? I don't know
Modern AU WandaxFemReader
Summary: Reader is confused by liking Wanda.
Warnings: PG-13, some cursing
A/N: This is a fun little piece. The group is mentioned but the main focus is the reader. Any suggestions please let me know!
I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THESE CHARACTERS!
*****************************************************************************************************
You are a nurse working in Boston. You had moved here right after graduating college and besides working you spend a lot of time with your very close-knit group of friends. The group started with you and Nat who moved into your apartments. A couple weeks after moving in you were at a bar and Nat tried to hit on Steve. He turned out to already have a boyfriend, however, named Bucky. Soon enough it was the 4 of you. Steve was a veteran and worked with other veterans and soon introduced everyone to Sam who brought along his friend from college Tony. Carol and Wanda were next to join they happened to be your next-door neighbors. Carol came over to complain about the noise you and your friends were making, and Wanda came over with apology cookies, that is how your friendship started. Tony also brought along Bruce who was friends with Thor. Clint, Nat’s childhood friend also moved to Boston for his job who also brought his roommate T’Challa. Your group expanded over the course of a year. And now 3 years in you all spent a majority of your time at your apartment.
Nat and Bruce had just started a new relationship and it was nauseating to you. They were often cuddled on the couch when you came home and were definitely not quiet in the bedroom. Living there started to interfere with your sleep schedule. One day while Nat and Bruce were out Wanda and Carol came over to hangout.
“Maybe you should just tell them to shut up?” Carol told you as Wanda and her listened to you whine about your predicament.
“But Nat is finally happy. It took her so long to be this happy, I'm not going to whine to her about it just yet.” You said trying to compartmentalize your thoughts in your head.
“That’s so kind of you Y/N, but what about you? What makes you happy?” Wanda asked in a sweet tone. You and Wanda had grown closer as Nat was preoccupied. You both spent many nights cooking dinner together and cuddling up on the couch watching tv shows, most the time falling asleep on each other. You had a soft spot for her. You considered it to be more than a friendship, but you had never been with a girl to make it more than a thought.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right I’ll talk to her, thanks guys.” Just then Nat comes through the door with a very drunk Bruce.
“Hey guys! Let me just put him to bed then I’m all in for the girl’s night!” Nat said while escorting Bruce to her bedroom.
You opened up another bottle of wine and as soon as she came out, she pulled up a stool to contribute to the conversation. The 4 of you gossiped about almost everyone in the group, company excluded. You talked about Tony’s new girlfriend Pepper and what she started bringing to the group, which was mostly keeping Tony in check. You talked about T’Challa and his advancements in his job and hoping that he didn’t move because of it. You talked about when you think Clint was going to propose to his long-term girlfriend Laura.
“Alright I'm making a group chat without Clint and Laura to take a pool for when he’ll pop the question. $1 buy in.” You sent the text to all of your friends and soon your phone was blowing up.
“Ya know, I don’t know why but you sending that text reminded me of this one time in college when I was at a party and we were playing truth or dare, and I got dared to send a text to our professor saying that I believed that I was a giraffe. He recommended that I seek help.” Carol said wiping her eyes as she laughed. You all stared at her in confusion. The comment being from out of nowhere.
“That’s really a great story, you should tell everyone at movie night.” Nat said sarcastically.
“Hey now, let’s all just get along. Carol that was a random story, Nat she should tell everyone she is a giraffe when she wants.” Wanda let out in an almost serious tone.
“Yeah,” you said backing up Wanda. The night went on a little longer with now 4 empty bottles of wine and a very tipsy group of friends.
“Hey, I have an idea, let’s play truth or dare.” Nat said with a mischievous glint in her eye.
“Now why would we do that?” you ask very annoyed. You guys weren’t in college anymore and you had nightmares about the game. You knew the idea was only in her head because of the giraffe story.
“Because it’s fun,” Carol chimed in.
“Thank you, Carol. Now let’s start I’ll go first. Carol truth or dare?” Nat said.
“Dare!”
“I dare you to go flash our neighbors.” Nat said. Carol was not even hesitant, she got up walked to the window and lifted her shirt to flash the outside world, before walking back like she had just accomplished a huge task. You rolled your eyes as the game continued.
The game continued with a few more rounds all being very stupid tasks. Nat was currently in the room with Bruce giving him a lap dance with the door closed. She walked out with her hair a mess.
“Ok my turn. Y/N truth or dare?” She asked fixing herself back on her seat. You were very tipsy by this point.
“Dare!” you said very enthusiastically. You were not prepared for the task you were asked to do.
“I dare you to kiss the hottest person in the room.” You froze. The obvious choice was Wanda, but you couldn’t do that. Could you? You for sure weren’t going to kiss Nat because that’s weird, and you always secretly disliked Carol so that was out of the question. The only logical choice was Wanda. You hesitantly leaned over to give Wanda a kiss on the cheek. As you pulled away you saw her cheeks were as red as tomatoes causing you to also start to blush.
“Boo that wasn’t even a kiss.” Nat groaned on.
“Yes, it was. You never specified what kind of kiss it had to be!” you counteracted Nat.
“I thought you would just assume it was a kiss kiss like on the lips like an actual kiss.” She argued back. Carol and Wanda just kept looking at the two of you unsure of what was happening.
“You want a kiss kiss? I will give you a kiss kiss.” You turned to Wanda and put your lips on hers with all of the liquid courage you had built up. You heard her gasp at the action but soon was reciprocating the kiss. Her lips were so soft and perfect, and you felt electrical shocks go throughout your body at the interaction. Your lips moved in perfect sync with each other. You only pulled away when you heard Carol wolf whistle at the two of you.
You felt embarrassed as your cheeks started to turn red. Wanda just looked at you stunned by the action. There was an awkward silence before you spoke up. “Wanda I’m sorry that was, that was,” you couldn’t find the right words. “Ya know what it’s pretty late and I’m getting sleepy I’m going to head to bed.” You said not looking at anyone in particular. You stood up and walked to your room.
“Y/N wait.” You heard Wanda say behind you, you just shut the door behind you and locked the door crawling into bed.
The next morning you woke up and walked to the kitchen to get breakfast. Nat was already out there, and you saw waffles, pancakes, sausage, bacon, toast and eggs all spread out on the table. You ignored all of that and simply walked to the coffee pot.
“I made you breakfast, also there is freshly squeezed orange juice, with no pulp.” She said pouring you a glass. You didn’t even acknowledge her. Instead grabbed the box of cheerios from the cabinet with your coffee and heading back to your room. Before you could close the door Nat put her foot in the door.
“Look, Y/N, I'm sorry about last night I didn’t mean to embarrass you. It’s just I thought you both liked each other, and I figured I’d give you a little nudge ya know? Be a good friend?” She said while you continued to walk to your bed and get your laptop out to watch Netflix.
“Ok well you were wrong. I don’t know what to tell you.” You said trying to convince yourself more. In all honesty you haven’t stopped thinking about the kiss. You had thought about Wanda’s lips from the moment they left yours. And the way that she kissed you back. That had to mean something right? Like maybe she felt the same way for you. But you weren’t sure you liked girls. But maybe you did? Maybe Wanda could be your girlfriend. That was weird for you to even think about having a girlfriend. You were so confused.
Nat saw your internal turmoil by look on your face. “What’s wrong Y/N?” she asked concern clear on her face.
“I never liked a girl before.” You said staring at your hands. You couldn’t even look her in the eye. You were so scared saying it out loud. But it was true and now you felt like you did like a girl. A very specific girl, who had beautiful reddish hair and green eyes that pierced your soul. She had the best laugh where her nose would scrunch up and she always tried to make everyone feel better.
“Y/N, its ok. You are allowed to like girls, especially ones who make you happy. You’re allowed to like Wanda as more than a friend. A friend would not kiss another friend on a dare the way you kissed Wanda last night.” She said rubbing your back.
“I know I just, she’s just, and I'm just.” You tried to explain failing to find the words.
“Talk to her, let her know. She’s a pretty understanding person and I think she could help you.” Nat said before giving your arm one last squeeze. “Also come eat my breakfast, I cooked too much food.” She said while getting up and moving to the door.
“Can you bring it to me please? I'm super comfy right now.” You asked with pleading eyes.
“Yeah sure.” She said while walking out of the door to get you breakfast.
You spent a lot of time that day writing in your journal and watching tv, the perfect lazy day. You didn’t see much of your friends that week. You took on more shifts at the hospital and stayed in on call rooms to avoid thinking about your friend who you couldn’t keep out of your head. You thought if you just stayed away, it would all go away and be ok.
You came home one day exhausted and just went right to bed. When you woke up you opened your door to go to the kitchen, but you stopped as your eyes landed on a specific pair of green eyes staring back at you. You were frozen in your spot. The person you had tried to get out of your head was now sitting on the couch in your house. “Want to watch a movie?” She asked like nothing had happened. Like everything that happened that one night didn’t happen. It frustrated you that she was so calm about all of this while you were losing sleep. You continued to walk to the kitchen to get food before answering.
“Sure, you want any snacks?” you asked her.
“Yes please! Can I have some popcorn?” you started to get the popcorn out and put it in the microwave and then went to get out a bowl to put it in. There was a silence that came again and stayed there. The only sound was the kernels popping in the microwave. You looked at your hands while you could feel Wanda staring at you.
When the popcorn was finished you dumped the bag in the bowl and walked over to give it to Wanda who was sitting on the couch. You would usually sit on the same couch as her but tonight decided to opt for the love seat. You didn’t even look at her, but Wanda had a frown at your choice of seats. You kept your eyes trained on the tv waiting for the movie to start but it never did.
“What is it Y/N? Why are you in such a mood?” she asked.
“I’m not in a mood. Why do you say that?” you asked her, knowing it was stupid because you were in a mood and she could read you better than anyone, even Nat.
“Yes, you are. If you weren’t in a mood, I would’ve seen you this week. If you weren’t in a mood, you would tell me all about work and how crazy it is, and we wouldn’t even get to start the movie. If you weren’t in a mood, you would be sitting on this couch with me probably with your feet draped over my legs. Why aren’t you sitting with me?” She was aggravated you could tell but you didn’t know how to answer that.
“I don’t know.” You said which only made her get up and start pacing in frustration.
“God, Y/N, you’re so frustrating just say it we all know why you’re in a mood.” She said now standing directly in front of you.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. It seems like you know why I am in a mood more than I do so tell me why.” You said to her not having the courage for the words that needed to be said. You quickly regretted saying that. She climbed onto your lap, so her eyes were directly in front of yours. She put her arms around your shoulders so there was no way to escape. You suddenly couldn’t focus on anything other than how close your faces were.
“You do know Y/N. It’s because there is something here, with you and me. That kiss that we shared was incredible and I couldn’t stop thinking about it, or you. So why are you pushing me away.” You couldn’t think of anything to say.
“I never kissed a girl before, and I just didn’t know I could feel this way about someone until we kissed. And I just wasn’t sure if it was ok for you.” You said giving her the basic train of your thoughts.
“You weren’t sure if it was ok for me? Did I not communicate that enough in the kiss or do I have to show you how ok it was for me?” she asked. You sat there frozen as she leaned in and put her lips on yours again not even waiting for permission. You tensed up at first, but after a second you were quick to reciprocate how right this felt for you too. Her hands were playing with your hair and yours on instinct went to her hips trying to pull her closer.
She pulled away when you did that. “I thought you weren’t sure Y/N? Do we have to keep figuring this out?” she asked while pretending to make a confused face.
“Yeah, I think we can keep figuring this out.” You said while leaning up to kiss her again. She pulled back again though.
“Are you sure you’re, ok? We don’t have to do anything. I’m ok with taking this slow.” She said looking at you, reading your face for any signs of being uncomfortable.
“I just really want to kiss you again.” This time you spoke the truth.
“Then kiss me.” You didn’t even hesitate leaning in again, placing your lips on hers. It quickly got heated as she pushed you back further onto the couch. You didn’t try to fight back, you only continued to move your hands all over her body, exploring places you never would dare before.
Her lips left yours and started to leave a trail going lower down your face till she started sucking on your neck. You let out a moan and felt her smile against your skin. All of your earlier thoughts, questioning if this was right were out the window now. With her in your arms everything felt right.
She came back to your lips where your tongues were soon dancing together. You didn’t even hear Nat and Bruce come in the door. You only pulled away when you heard a cabinet close in the kitchen. You looked over your shoulder to see them both staring at you and Wanda.
“Don’t stop on our account we’re just grabbing some snacks for the show.” Nat said smugly. Wanda buried her face in your neck, clearly embarrassed, as were you. She climbed off of you and walked into the kitchen.
“Ha ha very funny Nat.” Wanda said while walking over to grab some water. You sat up on the couch eyes trained on the girl with reddish hair. Her hair was disheveled from the heated make out session, and her lips were already swollen a little.
“It’s so good to finally see my roomie after a week of being MIA.” She said while smiling at you.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” You said as you rolled your eyes. You finally got up from the couch to sit on a stool in the kitchen. You weren’t sure what would happen next. Wanda came over however and picked the seat right next to you scooting it closer, so she was basically on top of you, which you weren’t complaining about. It had only been a few minutes, but you already missed her being in such close proximity to you.
The four of you stayed up chatting before Bruce and Nat decided to go to bed, claiming they had a long day tomorrow. As they walked out you turned to Wanda smiling.
“Hi,” you said with a smile spreading across your lips.
“Hi,” she said back just as smiley, reaching her arms around your shoulders as she had done earlier that night.
“Would you maybe, I don’t know, mind if I kissed you again?” you said shyly. She didn’t even answer before bringing her lips to your again. The action that was so foreign before was now becoming addicting. The kiss this time was short however before she pulled away.
“Would you maybe, I don’t know, want to be my girlfriend? If not, I totally understand if it’s too fast for you.” You just brought your lips to hers as your answer. You pulled away and simply took her hand in yours before guiding her to your room. You made out but that was it nothing went any further. You just laid in the comfort of each other’s arms for the rest of the night.
In the morning you woke up with a smile on your face and an amazing girl in your arms. You got up to go get some coffee for the two of you in the kitchen. You walked out to see none other than Nat and this time Steve too.
“Hey there Y/N! Do anything fun last night?” Steve asked with a smile on his face. Nat had already told him.
“You’re dead Romanoff.” You said while pouring a cup of coffee.
“Oh, come on Y/N! I can’t help it if you guys are adorable together. Steve, you should’ve seen them last night they were like connected at the hip the entire night.”
“I can’t wait till the rest of the group finds out. Bucky, Sam, and Tony, all owe me $15.” Steve said nonchalantly.
“What do you mean they owe you money?” you asked confused by the statement.
“Well, you guys were already inseparable, and I figured it was a matter of time before you both got together so I made a pool of when it would happen. I said before the end of the month which happened, so I win.” He said it like it was obvious.
“Yeah, you guys couldn’t get together like a week earlier?” Nat asked annoyed.
“Hey now, no more betting on my love life, ok? Or else next time I want in.” you said cheekily.
“Well now, there is a pool when the two of you will sleep together, you want in on that?” Steve said.
“They almost did last night believe me.” Nat jumped in before you could argue. Just then Wanda came out of your room with a yawn. Steve and Nat just whipped their heads to look at you with ‘oh shit’ eyes.
Wanda came over and wrapped her arms around your waist before reaching up to give you a kiss. You melted into her before she pulled away “Morning cutie.” She said before taking the coffee out of you hand and going to sit next to Steve who was still shocked that Wanda just exited your room.
“You do not mess around. Damn Y/N” Nat said with a mischievous grin.
“Ok Nat, it took you what like an hour before you jumped Bruce’s bones.” You counteracted. That shut her up real fast as Wanda looked around clearly confused by the conversation she had missed. After that night you and Wanda were the next couple in the group. Everyone supported you guys and soon enough you got your own place together to watch movies together.

Remember Me - Luke Patterson x Reader
“So I have this idea where the reader died with the boys she's like their friend/fan/manager type stuff but like she has this crush on Luke since forever but never acted up on it and so when they met Julie and stuff the boys kind of neglect her because they were so focused on making the band and stuff and she also sees the chemistry between Luke and Julie. After that she went and met Willie where they talked about their unfinished business and like the reader knows her unfinished business and it's not Luke...”
So this is....the saddest piece I’ve ever written, sorry in advance
It had been about two months since Y/N and the boys were planted in Julie Molina’s life. In that short period of time, Luke, Alex, and Reggie were able to creatively connect with the girl and start to play music again. As much as she loved to watch the boys succeed, she couldn’t help but feel a pain in her chest.
As the boys grew closer to Julie, Y/N slipped into the background. Unable to contribute musically and her death making it impossible for her to help with the marketing piece she used to take on, she was often relegated to an audience member and cheerleader. She didn’t mind encouraging her boys, but she couldn’t help but feel like an outsider from the group.
As she sat on the white sand, she looked out at the open water, listening to water whip around. A jolt pushed her back a few feet, leaving her breathless. As she came back from the sudden pain, she thought about what Willie had said to Alex about completing their unfinished business. With the physical pain of whatever Caleb ejected into their system, and the hidden pain her chest, she was aware of the fact that she couldn’t last long.
She knew she needed to talk to someone about it. Her best friend had been the one she turned to when she felt her lowest. She had hesitated to say anything to him before because looked so happy with this second chance. He was writing and singing again, and most importantly, he was smiling again. She had ignored the fast beating of her heart when he grabbed her hand in excitement over the Phantoms’ first gig and definitely ignored the ache in her chest when she saw the way that Julie and Luke sang with each other on the stage. However, she knew this feeling in her gut wouldn’t go away with her letting it build inside, so she was finally going to rip off that bandaid.
She snapped her fingers and was instantly brought back to the garage. She looked around the garage and didn’t see anyone initially. As she waited, she started to hear the muffled sound of voices outside the door. She walked over, opening the door a crack and peeking outside. She saw Luke and Julie, a soft smile across his face as he looked at her. One she once thought was reserved for her. She swallowed hard as she listened.
“Julie, you’re incredible, please talk to me. You know that you can tell me anything, right?”
The girl looked up at him with wide eyes and a sweet smile. They moved to try to connect hands, his slipping through hers. She turned to face the house and he smiled at her side profile.
“This is an interesting little relationship you and I have…”
Y/N felt tears bubble toward the surface as she watched the pure encounter in front of her. She had felt like she had been replaced for a while now, but this was the physical proof she was looking for. She slid the door closed and fell against it, letting silent tears fall from her face for a moment before snapping her fingers again.
She landed in the middle of the quiet dance floor of Caleb’s club. She heard the sound of tires wheeling toward her and turned to see Willie racing her way. He slid up to meet her, picking up his board in his hand and smiling at her.
“Y/N, what are you doing here?”
She clutched her wrist in her opposite hand, refusing to meet his eyes. She felt his hand grab hers and she finally met his gaze, unable to stop the tears from flowing.
“What’s going on?” He pressed, his eyebrows raised in concern.
She let go of his hand and moved hers to wipe the tears away. “I just wanted to talk to you about something.” She shoved her hands in her pockets as she looked up at him.
He sighed, leading her over to the table. He sat his board on the chair next to him and turned to face her. She took a deep breath before speaking again.
“You know how you said that by completing your unfinished business you could pass on…”
“Uh-huh…” He said slowly, one eyebrow raising at her.
She rubbed the back of her neck “I was wondering...how do you find out what that is exactly...to do that…”
“Y/N have you talked to the boys-”
She stopped him, holding a hand out to his face. “I am certain it doesn’t have anything to do with them.” He stared at her blankly “You know that. We talked about how their scheduled performance will probably be the anecdote for them. That won’t work for me… I need to do this alone”
He nodded at her, waiting a moment before talking again “Okay, so let’s think about this…. Do you have anyone that you have unresolved issues with? Anyone that you might have left on bad terms with?”
She thought hard about this question. There were many people that she never received clarity from, but one stuck out. Her mom and her were never really on great terms. She remembered the last argument they had the last night before she left for the Sunset Curve show. Her mom had been frustrated with her slipping grades and her continued focus on the boys’ career instead of her own.
What really broke her was her mom’s stance that Luke “wasn’t good enough for her” and that she was wasting her time on him. The screaming match that followed this comment had left Y/N’s face red and her heart racing as she screamed ‘I hate you’ at her mother and slammed the door as she left.
She regretted that the moment she said it. She knew her mom was just looking out for her, that she wanted the best for her daughter, and was genuinely worried about her. She knew she didn’t like Luke, but it wasn’t because she disliked him, she felt like the boy was leading her daughter on and didn’t want her heart to hurt anymore. Her mom was there the nights she cried when Luke would go on dates with other girls or when he would cancel plans last minute. Her mom would console her into the early hours of her morning. Although they didn’t always see eye to eye, her mom cared about her and loved her more than anyone she ever knew.
She felt her chest get heavier the longer she thought about that moment. She met Willie’s eyes again, placing her hands on the table as she told him the story.
“I think I know what I need to do, thanks, Wille.”
The right side of his lips rose at her, grabbing her hands and squeezing them. “You sure that this is what you want?”
She nodded, standing up. She wrapped the flannel she stole from Luke this morning and pulled it over her shoulders. The pair exchanged a hug and a last goodbye before she poofed out of the room. As she opened her eyes, she was met by a scene she was all too familiar with. The tree was already decorated for the Christmas holiday, the dining room set the way her mom always did even though they rarely ate there. She walked forward, entering the living room. That is when she saw her, she almost cried at the sight of the grey-haired woman, knitting in her favorite chair. As she approached her and watched her stoically watching the screen in front of her, she shook from the emotion that fell from her body. Y/N tried to wave her hand in front of her face, but the woman did not react to the movement. She watched her for another moment before she walked over to the table.
She saw the pen and notepad on the table and concentrated on them. She exhaled as she was able to hold the pen in her hand. She touched the notepad, pressing the ink to the page. The words flew like water from her as the pen hit the paper. She got to the end and thought carefully before she wrote “Your Sunshine” at the end in neat cursive. She ripped the paper from the rest and folded into a perfect square. She held it up to her and kissed it gently. She walked to the kitchen, placing the note next to the coffee machine that she’d know the woman would eventually wander to. She looked around the room one more time before stepping through the back door.
She sat down on the outside steps and took a deep breath. She rested her elbows on her knees and brought her hands up to cover her face. She finally took a moment to let go, crying into her hands, the tears collecting in her palm. She knew that she couldn’t bear to evaporate into thin air or whatever would happen at her home. She felt like that would be like her mom losing her twice, even if she didn’t see her.
She snapped her fingers and heard the familiar noise of the waves around her. She let her eyes set on the water furthest from her. Sitting in silence as the grey day consumed her.
Later that night
Luke’s body drew a subtle hue as he hugged Julie, feeling the strength reenter his body after a near-death after their last performance. The band hugged each other closely, spinning around in a circle at the opportunity for another chance to be around each other. As they separated, Luke looked around the room with wide eyes.
“Hey, where’s Y/N, I know she’s not formally a part of the band...but maybe this will work for her too?”
He looked over to the chair where he normally found her reading and didn’t see her lamp on. He ran over to the other side of the room by the stereo and found nothing. He ran his fingers through his hair as he sprinted back over to his bandmates.
He jogged back to his bandmates, scratching his head “Did she say she was going somewhere tonight?”
Before any of them could answer, they heard the turn of wheels near the entrance of the garage. They turned to see the long-haired skater frantically trying to catch his breath. His eyes darted between all of the boys eyes before he met Luke’s, fighting the tears he already felt coming.
“Willie, what’s going on?” Alex asked, approaching the boy.
Willie looked up at Alex with tears welling in the corners of his eyes. He bit down on his bottom lip before speaking to the group.
“She didn’t want me to tell you guys, but my heart can’t take you all not knowing. I think Y/N is gone.”
Luke scoffed, pointing at the empty room behind him “Yeah, I just tried to look for her-”
Wille interrupted him, swallowing hard “No...she’s gone gone.”
Luke’s face moved to a scowl, approaching the man with his fists balled “What do you mean? What the hell did you do?”
Wille pressed backward, and Alex intervened, pushing against Luke’s chest to separate the boys. The skater put a hand on Alex’s shoulder and moved him out of the way to meet Luke’s angry expression again.
“I didn’t do anything. SHE came to me this afternoon and asked about completing unfinished business. She told me she had to do this. She said something about it being her last hope.” Luke felt his eyes fill with water. He turned away from the group and slammed his hand against the wall, knowing well that it would bruise his knuckles.
He screamed out in anguish before moving back over to her seat on the couch. His bandmates watched as he terrorized the room, ripping papers and pushing over furniture. Willie moved forward to try to console him but Alex’s arm rose, blocking the boy from walking forward. Alex nodded at his bandmates and Willie, the four of them leaving the boy alone in the room.
Luke noticed a neat little square of paper sitting on top of the last book she read. He picked it up and saw his name written in her perfect penmanship. he sat down in her chair and wiped his tears aways on his ruffled top, steadying his breathing before unraveling the piece of paper.
“Luke,
I didn’t want to do this, but I think leaving will be the best thing for my heart. I hope that your work with Julie gives you and the boys the second chance that you all deserve. I have never been prouder of you and no one in this world and afterlife deserves another shot of happiness like you do. I hope Julie takes care of your heart because I know that you deserve so much love, I hope she’s willing to give that to you for as long as she can. Thank you for being my first friend, my first ‘boss’, and....my first love. I hope you never forget me because I know that it will be very difficult for me to forget you.
Love,
Your Sugar, Y/N”
He didn’t notice that he was crying until a few rogue tears hit the paper, drenching the words. He read the words “first love” several more times before folding it back up into her perfect square. He brought the note up to his lips and kissed it gently before holding it to where his heart used to beat. He looked up at the ceiling and whispered “I love you so much, I’m so sorry Sugar” to the air around him, letting the tears continue to fall as he sat in silence.

Dragon Ball Z: Boyfriend Scenarios
Part Three: How He Confesses His Feelings
A/N: Sorry it took so long everyone!!
Goku
The only person in the group that knew of Goku's crush on you was Bulma. She was always rooting him on and giving him tips.
This morning, she suggested he try to cook for you since you were always cooking for him.
You walked downstairs to the smell of something good...and something burning. It was a weird mix.
Immediately alarmed, you hurried yourself to see what was going on. You were immediately stopped by a panicked looking Goku.
"No, no Y/N you can't come down just yet." He nervously chuckled.
"What did you do Goku? It smells like burnt food in here!"
"Really! There's no reason to worry! I promise! It's all under control." He flashed you his goofy grin as you attempted to push past him.
"Goku! Come on! What is going on!?"
"It's under control Y/N!" You hear Bulma's voice shout.
"Bulma!?" You were shocked. "Goku you must have really fucked up if Bulma's here to fix it!"
"Please, Y/N!"
"Move!"
"No!"
"Move Goku!"
"I can't."
You knew just how to get him. Tickling.
You began to tickle his sides as he doubled over and you quickly sped past him and into the kitchen. You looked at the table to see your favorite breakfast food prepared.
Goku came up behind you and placed a hand on the small of your back. He looked a little red in the face as Bulma laughed.
"He tried to make you breakfast and completely failed." She laughed. "I came to help out. Almost done! Just finishing up the orange juice."
Bulma winked at Goku as you turned around and started giggling.
"Well, you see. I've never been the best at cooking and..."
You interrupted. "Goku, it's alright. I appreciate the effort. Thank you."
You engulfed him in a hug being sure to squeeze him extra tight. His large arms snaked around your waist as he began to whisper in your ear.
"You know, I tried to make breakfast. Well, because..." He sighed softly. "I kind of, sort of like you a lot."
You started laughing even harder, Goku pulling away and giving you a confused look. He scratched the top of his head as you continued your laughter.
"Goku! Come back!" You grabbed his hand and pulled him into another hug. "Surprise! I like you too." You whispered back.
"Told you so!!" Bulma stuck her tongue out at Goku as you happily sat down at the table.
Vegeta
Tonight Bulma was throwing a party and despite not wanting to go at all, Vegeta did because he knew you would be there.
It was nice to take a break from training and just hang out.
Throughout the night, you danced, drank just a little, and chatted with everyone.
It wasn't until the night was almost over that you remembered Vegeta said he would be here tonight.
You were so used to not seeing him at these sorts of things that you just sort of expected him not to show up.
Vegeta had been sitting inside watching TV the entire time you were outside with everyone. He had even gotten so comfy on the couch, he fell asleep.
"Hey, have you seen 'Geta?" You questioned Bulma.
She pointed inside, to which you quickly rushed in.
You found him sprawled out on the couch, snoring away. He must have been tired from training.
You giggled as you crouched down next to the Saiyan. "Vegeta." You whispered his name. He didn't budge.
You stood up, gently picked him up walked outside where you immediately flew away, being careful not to wake him.
You were going to your place.
Once you landed, you walked inside and gently placed him on the couch, grabbing him a pillow and blanket. You covered him up and gave his forehead a soft kiss before making yourself a cup of coffee.
You sat down in one of your chairs, sipping away at the warm drink, waiting for him to wake up.
Eventually, he did.
His onyx eyes fluttered open and an immediate look of confusion plastered on his face. He glanced around the room before spotting you and quickly sitting up.
"Woman! Where am I?"
You laughed. "My house. You fell asleep at the party. I carried you here."
Vegeta's heart fluttered at the thought of you carrying him back to your house. Taking care of him.
"Who knew that the Prince of all Saiyans looked so cute while sleeping." You teased him. "Want some coffee?"
His face went red as he looked down at the floor. "Please..." He grumbled, rolling his eyes.
You made him some and handed it to him, taking a seat next to him on the couch.
"You were really out cold. I tried to wake you, but you just kept snoring."
Vegeta felt a wave of embarrassment fall over him as he shrugged. "You should have left me there, woman."
"Oh yeah. As if. Bulma would have rolled you off the couch and yelled at you to get out. You're not exactly the nicest to anyone other than me." You chuckled. "Why am I so special anyway, Vegeta? Why do you only talk to me?"
"I train with you."
"Ah."
Vegeta took a sip of his drink before leaning forward and setting it on the table.
"Well, you're special to me Vegeta." You looked away, a bit flustered.
He just grunted, crossing his arms and looking toward the ceiling.
"Vegeta. I like you. A lot."
"No, you don't."
"Yes, I do."
"You only think you do."
"I like you Vegeta. As hard as it is to like you, I do. I like how you're not easy on me simply because I'm a girl. And how you treat me like a warrior. I admire you. You're strong and proud. I love that about you."
Vegeta's face went as red as a tomato. His voice was low. "How convenient."
"Huh?"
"Oh god, I've become all...soft." He cringed. "For god sakes woman, I like you too!"
Gohan
"Absolutely not Gohan! You two are getting too old to be having sleepovers together!" Chi-Chi said to her son.
"Oh come on mom! Y/N and I are just friends! Just this one time! Last time I swear!"
"That's what you said last time! No!" She crossed her arms and started tapping her foot.
"Mom, please! I promise this time is a definite last time!" He begged. "I'll put in extra time for studying!"
Chi-Chi's ears perked up once he mentioned studying.
"Okay Gohan, but this is the last time!"
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" He laughed as he flew out the front door towards your house.
Gohan landed at your front door, knocking rapidly.
You opened with a happy face. "You convinced her?"
"Yeah! All I had to tell her was extra studying!" Gohan laughed as he entered your house.
"Gohan, sweetie! How are you?" Your mother greeted.
"Oh just lovely, Mrs. L/N. And you?"
"I'm doing good!"
You grabbed Gohan's hand and dragged him up to your room where the two of you sat on your bed.
"Sneaking out tonight, right?" You questioned.
"Uh, yeah!"
Up until the start of the new school year, you and Gohan did this all the time. You'd stay the night at one another's house and sneak out at night. Most of the time it was to stargaze.
When it finally was nighttime, the two of you opened your window and flew out to an old abandoned barn in the middle of nowhere.
You landed on the roof, Gohan laying back and staring up at the sky, hands behind his head.
"This really might be the last time we do this." He mumbled. "Mom's been pretty strict about us seeing one another lately."
You scooted closer to him, laying down. "I don't know why..." You responded.
Gohan nervously chuckled and took a deep breath. "I think she thinks we like each other or something."
Your heart began to thump as you looked over at him, his eyes shimmering under the stars.
"Well, she has every right to be suspicious. Neither one of us date and we're with each other all the time."
"Yeah. Right." He grinned, grabbing your hand.
You tightly gripped his hand, eyes locking with his.
"Maybe mom is right about us."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, hypothetically speaking, what if I liked you and you liked me and we started dating, huh?"
You smiled at him.
"Would it give me permission to do this?" You rolled over and straddled him, his cheeks immediately turned red and eyes wide.
You leaned down and kissed him square on the lips, his hands moving to your waist.
He tasted so sweet and lovely.
He pulled away due to the need for air and looked up at you. "I think I'm going to need you to do that again just to be sure."
Future Trunks
It had been a few months since the last time you had seen him. You were beyond excited.
Trunks had told you the exact date, location, and time of when he'd arrive.
It was only a matter of time before the androids would show up, and not only were you excited, you were also scared to see what was going to happen.
You stood impatiently, tapping your foot. Krillin stood by your side as you nervously chewed at your nails.
"Hey Y/N it will be alright. I'm sure he'll be here any mo-" And before Krillin could answer, the air zapped and the time machine appeared right before your eyes. It landed on the ground and you immediately flew up to the top, busting open the dome to reveal Trunks.
"Trunks!" You grinned, grabbing his hand and pulling him out.
He looked up at you with his bright blue eyes, a grin plastered on his face. He laughed softly before nervously scratching his neck.
"Y/N! Good to see you too."
"Come on you two! We don't have much time." You heard Piccolo from the ground.
You both flew down. Piccolo and Krillin stayed with you to wait for Trunks while the rest of the gang headed to gather in the designated area.
Piccolo and Krillin lifted off and you and Trunks followed.
"I missed you." You mumbled, glancing over at him.
"Me too, Y/N." He looked down.
Silence filled the air as you traveled Trunks looked nervous and on edge. It was understandable considering he was facing the androids, who destroyed his future.
"It'll be okay Trunks. We'll beat them together." You smiled.
His eyebrows knitted as he looked over at you with worry glistening in his eyes. He frowned. "No, Y/N. You don't understand what they're like. They've killed thousands of innocent people in my future. They won't hesitate to do it here either. They're monsters."
You flew a little closer to him and grabbed his hand. "I know. Which is why I'm motivated to kill them once and for all."
Trunks squeezed your hand softly before clearing his throat.
"Y/N, before we arrive. And before we begin our battle, there's something you need to know." His throat bobbed.
"Yes?"
"If the androids kill you or me I need you to know..." He choked. "I love and like you a lot."
Piccolo
Another day at the lookout...
"Hey, Piccolo." You disturbed the Namekian during his meditation session.
He opened one of his eyes and peeked over at you, a small smile playing upon his lips as he crossed his arms.
"What is it, Y/N?"
You laughed at him before walking over and grabbing one of his hands and tugging him along gently.
"I want take out. It's been soooooo long!" You grinned ear to ear.
"Fine." He had been looking for an excuse to be alone with you anyway. Dende and Mr. Popo always seemed to be sneaking in to watch the two of you flirt like a soap opera or something.
"What?" You were shocked he gave in so easily.
His forehead crinkled. "I said fine. Don't make me regret it."
"Yes! Yes! Yes! You're the best, Big Green!"
A purple tint appeared on his cheeks.
*Later*
You and Piccolo were preparing to leave the lookout, saying a quick "goodbye, see ya soon" to Dende and Popo.
You both flew down towards the ground, Piccolo attempting to make small talk whilst you made your way to the Chinese restaurant.
"Why didn't you just go on your own?" He questioned, not looking over in your direction. You had put something nicer than usual on to get his attention, and it had worked by the look on his face.
"I enjoy your company clearly. You are the reason I am even at the lookout, Piccolo. I mean, seriously. I'm just a mere human."
He growled. "No. You're a warrior."
"Well still."
You eventually landed and Piccolo walked closely by your side as you made your way down the street.
The Namekian held a hand to the small of your back, guiding you along. He really was a gentleman no matter how tough he liked to act at times.
"You know, I appreciate you coming with me." You grinned up at him.
"Uh. Yeah. Sure."
You grinned as you leaned into his side. His heart stopped as he looked off into the distance with a blush overcoming his face.
"Why do you always go purple when I touch you?"
"W-What?" He exclaimed, a panicked look on his face.
You giggled softly. "I think someone has a crush on silly, old me."
"What? No!"
"Yes!" You stuck your tongue out at him.
"No!"
"Yes!"
"And so what if I did?" He stopped dead in his tracks and crossed his arms.
"Well, I'd say I like you too."
"You would?"
"Mhm." You nodded, falling into his chest.
It took the Namekian by surprise, but soon you felt his arms snake around you and you stood in his embrace for a while before starting back up on your walk. His hand is yours.

The Sanctuary || Thomastair (from Alastair's POV)
From chapter 19 & 21 from COI!
This was weird to do and even tho I had the dialogue it wasn't as easy to write as I expected. I tried to make this how I imagine Alastair's thought process and it hit a little too close to home so tried my best to do this scene justice. I hope you like it!
•
Alastair barely moved since the door had closed and locked behind the Consul for the last time.
It has been hours. Alastair was rereading pages of The Prince over and over again, without actually understanding most of them. He randomly turned on pages from time to time, at least to look like he was reading.
Even without looking at Thomas, he was aware where he was in the Sanctuary. Alastair wondered what Thomas thought of him now. After founding out Alastair literally had been stalking him for weeks. Or maybe he was worrying about the fact he was accused for murder.
At some point, Thomas walked to the door and shook it, like he was hoping even for the slightest chance that the lock and wards had failed.
“A little menacing that the Sanctuary bolts shut from the outside, isn’t it? I never thought about it much before,” Alastair said, his voice was the first loud thing in hours.
Thomas turned around to look at him. There was something desperate in his face.
“I, er, suppose one might have to keep an unexpectedly dangerous Downworlder out, or something,” Thomas said awkwardly. Alastair looked away.
“Maybe,” he shrugged. “On the other hand, it does give the Institute a makeshift prison.”
It was a little creepy when he thought about it. A Sanctuary was supposed to be a sacred place. A place that provides safety and protection. Alastair had never thought he would be held as a prisoner here. And definitely not with Thomas Lightwood.
Thomas wandered a little closer to him. Alastair didn't look away from his book. With the corner of his eye he could see Thomas' messy hair, clothes stained with blood and dirt. His tattoo was bright on his arm.
“Why have you been following me around?” Thomas demanded.
Alastair’s breath hitched. He didn't expect Thomas to speak to him. “Someone had to,” he said, still staring at his book.
“What on earth does that mean?” Thomas said.
“Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answer to, Lightwood,” Alastair said sharply. He didn't want to have a fight with him, not now. Not ever.
Thomas sat down with a thump on Alastair’s mattress. Alastair blinked at him in surprise.
“I do want the answer,” Thomas said. “And I will not get up until you tell it to me.”
Alastair slowly set his book aside. He could see Thomas' neck, the edge of his white shirt and if he moved his gaze further below there was the promise of his chest, hidden underneath the cloth. Alastair thought about their time in Paris, in the cafe. Thomas' warm skin under his fingers. And many months later, in London, his skin was warm as he remembered it, but marked with the rose compass tattoo.
“I knew you were taking extra patrols,” Alastair said, still thinking about Thomas' tattoo. “And more than that - going out by yourself with a murderer on the loose. You were going to get yourself killed. You’re meant to take someone with you.”
It sounded logical, didn't it? Alastair hoped so because if not Thomas would reveal that Alastair followed him because he wasn't just worried Tom would get himself killed - he wanted to be close to him, to take care of him, to do something for him, even if Thomas wasn't aware of it.
“No, thank you,” Thomas said. “All these people going out in pairs, announcing themselves every time they speak, unable to make a move without consulting each other - they might as well ring a bell to let the killer know they’re coming. And meanwhile, if you’re not on the schedule, you’re supposed to just sit around on your arse doing nothing. We’ll never catch the murderer if we avoid being out on the streets. That’s where the murderer is.”
Well, this sounded logical too, Alastair thought. Stubborn and reckless but logical.
Alastair was a little amused. “Never before have I heard such a concise statement of the ludicrous philosophy with which you and your school friends go through the world, running toward danger,” he said, stretching. “But that’s not why you were doing what you were doing,” Alastair added. “There’s a little truth to what you just said, but not the heart of it.”
“What do you mean?”
“You couldn’t save your sister. So you want to save other people. You want revenge, even if this isn’t the same evil that took Barbara - it’s still evil, isn’t it?” Alastair knew what he said may sound rude and was definitely not his business. But he was also determined to speak the truth. No matter how ugly, no matter how painful. The truth must be faced. “You want to behave recklessly, and you don’t want your reckless behavior to compromise a patrol partner’s safety. So you went alone.”
Thomas' face told him he was right.
“Well, I don’t believe you really think that we’re stupid,” Thomas said, “or that we willingly court danger for danger’s sake. If you believed that, you would do more to stop Cordelia spending time with us.”
Alastair scoffed. Like he could stop Cordelia from anything.
“My point,” Thomas went on, an edge to his voice, “is that I don’t think you believe the rude things you say. And I don’t understand why you say them. It doesn’t make any sense. It’s as if you want to drive everyone away.” He paused. “Why were you so awful to us in school? We never did anything to you.”
Alastair winced. For a long moment he was silent. What he could tell? What he could tell to make Thomas believe he's not terrible? Maybe he couldn't. Maybe this wasn't possible. He could only tell Thomas the truth and let him decide.
“I was awful to you …,” he said at last, “because I could be.”
“Anyone can be a bastard if they want to be,” said Thomas. “You had no reason to do it. Your family are friends with the Herondales. You could at least have been kinder to James.”
This wasn't untrue, mostly. But there was so much more than this.
“When I got to school,” said Alastair slowly, the effort costing him, “loose talk about my father had preceded me. Everyone knew he was a failure, and some of the older students decided I was an easy target. They … let’s just say that by the end of the first week, I had been made to understand my place in the hierarchy, and I had the bruises to remind me should I ever forget.”
Those were painful memories. The jokes, the vicious words and the other kids' fists. Back then he thought he would never allow someone to treat him like that again, even if this meant he would become a monster himself.
“After about a year of being knocked around,” Alastair went on, “I realized I could either become one of the bullies, or suffer for the rest of my school days. I felt no loyalty to my father, no need to defend him, so that was never a problem. I wasn’t very big - well, you know what that’s like.”
He eyed Thomas for a moment. Looking self-conscious, Thomas shrank back a bit. Physically he had grown so much, his muscles were visible through the shirt.
“What I did have,” said Alastair, “was a savage tongue and a quick wit. Augustus Pounceby and the others would collapse laughing when I cut some poor younger student down to size. I never got my hands bloody, never hit anyone, but it didn’t matter, did it? Soon enough the bully boys forgot they’d ever hated me. I was one of them.”
“And how did that turn out for you?” Thomas said in a hard voice.
Alastair looked at him matter-of-factly. “Well, one of us has a close-knit group of friends, and the other one has no friends at all. So you tell me.”
“You have friends,” Thomas said. Alastair snorted at this. He didn't. Not really.
“Then you arrived, a bunch of boys from famous families, too well brought up to understand at first what went on far from home. Expecting the world would embrace you. That you would be treated well. As I never had been.” Alastair pushed back a lock of hair. His hands were shaking. He was so bitter then, so full of anger at the injustice of the world. He took a breath, hoping Thomas didn't notice. “I suppose I hated you because you were happy. Because you had each other - friends you could like and admire - and I had nothing like that. You had parents who loved each other. But none of that excuses the way I behaved. And I do not expect to be forgiven.”
It hurted Alastair to say it, to think about it. But he really didn't think the Merry Thieves would forgive him - he wasn't surprised. If he was at their place he probably wouldn't forgive himself too.
“I’ve been trying to hate you,” Thomas said quietly, “for what you did to Matthew. You richly deserve to be hated for what you have done.”
Alastair looked Thomas in the face. “It wasn’t just his mother I slandered. It was your parents, too. You know it. So you don’t have to—to act all high-minded about this. Stop pretending you are only upset on behalf of Matthew. Hate me on your own behalf, Thomas.”
Part of him wanted this. One small, self-destructive part wanted Thomas to hate him. To tell him so. To lash out his anger at Alastair, so he could feel his pain in his bones, to remember it and to carry it with himself like he carried his own.
“No,” Thomas said firmly. He looked so sure, like this wasn't even an option. Like it was the law of nature, something that cannot.
Alastair didn't know how to react. Tension was freezing his body and mind and he could just blink at him.
“The reason I cannot hate you is because—because of those days we spent in Paris together,” he said. Alastair stomach flipped. “You were kind to me when I was very alone, and I am grateful. It was the first time I realized you could be kind.”
Alastair stared at him. The little light they had was doing strange things to Thomas' appearance. His hair looked lighter but his face was in shadow, making his eyes seem darker and deeper than usual. “It is my favorite memory of Paris as well.” Was Alastair saying this? Was this really his voice?
“You don’t have to say that. I know you were there with Charles.”
Alastair stiffened. He looked away. “Charles Fairchild? What about him?”
“Wouldn’t that be your best memory of Paris?” Thomas raised an eyebrow.
Alastair’s jaw was rigid. “Exactly what are you suggesting?”
He didn't want to do anything with Charles anymore. He wanted to move on. But it wasn't his business to reveal Charles' secrets. Alastair wouldn't do this to him.
“I’m not suggesting anything. I’ve seen the way you look at Charles, the way he looks at you. I’m not an idiot, Alastair, and I’m asking …” Thomas shook his head, sighing. His face was different than the past few months. The way he looked at Alastair… like he was searching for something. There was a deep ache in his eyes. “I suppose I’m asking if you’re like me.”
•
“Thomas Lightwood,” said Alastair. “I am nothing like you.”
If there was something in the whole world he was sure about, it was this.
He saw how Thomas' eyes widened. A pained expression on his face. Terror and humiliation were creeping in his eyes.
“I am nothing like you, Thomas,” Alastair continued, “because you are one of the better people I have ever known. You have a kind nature and a heart like some knight out of legend. Brave and proud and true and strong. All of it.” He smiled bitterly. He meant every word. “And all the time you have known me, I have been a terrible person. So, you see. We are nothing at all alike.”
Thomas’s gaze snapped up.
“I’m not—” Thomas breathed. “That’s not what I meant.”
“I know what you meant.” The words hung between them, neither daring to move a muscle. After a moment Alastair added in a gentler voice, “How did you know about Charles?”
“You wouldn’t tell me what you were doing in Paris,” said Thomas. “But you mentioned Charles, over and over again, like you got pleasure out of just saying his name. And when you came to London this summer, I saw the way you looked at him. I know what it is to have to hide the—the signs of affection.”
“Then I imagine you may have noticed I don’t look at Charles that way anymore,” Alastair said and couldn't not think what a lovesick fool he was.
“I suppose I did,” Thomas said, “though for the past four months, I’ve been trying not to look at you. I told myself I hated you. But I could never really make myself. When Elias died, all I could think about was you. What you must be feeling.”
Alastair winced. “I insulted your father and blackened his name. You were under no obligation to care about mine.”
Elias was something Alastair carefully avoided to think about. The unsaid words, the anger and all the disgust, resentment and undescribable loss of his father in so many ways was too much to bear.
“I know, but sometimes I think that it is much harder to lose someone who we are on bad terms with than it is to lose someone with whom all is well,” Thomas said kindly.
Tears filled Alastair's eyes.
“Bloody hell, Thomas. You should hate me, not be thinking about what I must be feeling—” Alastair swiped at his eyes. Raziel, his kindness. It was good he didn't deserve, a blessing so precious it made him want to cry. Why couldn't Thomas just hate him? Why couldn't he be like Matthew Fairchild and hate him? It would be deserved. It would be easier. “And the worst of it is, you’re right, of course. You always understood other people so well. I think I partly hated you for it, for being so kind. I thought, ‘He must have so much, to be able to be so generous.’ And I thought that I had nothing. It never occurred to me that you had secrets too.”
“You were always my secret,” said Thomas softly, and Alastair turned a surprised gaze at him. His face was so open, so vulnerable. It was so different, they both were, since the first time they met but… at the same time so soft, so kind like it was at the Academy, at Paris and now, at the Sanctuary again.
“Does no one know?” said Alastair. “That you—like men? How long have you known?”
“Since after I came to school, I think,” Thomas said in a low voice. “I knew what caught my eye, quickened my pulse, and it was never a girl.”
“And you never told anyone?”
Thomas hesitated. “I could have told my friends that I liked men. They would have understood. But I couldn’t have told them how I felt about you.”
“So you did feel something for me. I thought-” Alastair looked away, shaking his head. “I didn’t see you—you were this boy, following me around at school, and then I met you in Paris and you’d grown up and turned into Michelangelo’s David. I thought you were beautiful. But I was still caught up with Charles—” He broke off. “Just another thing I’ve wasted. Your regard for me. I wasted my time and my affection on Charles. I wasted my chance with you.”
It would definitely be easier if Thomas hated him, Alastair thought with bitterness. But now, knowing he wasted his time with a man who would choose his career over Alastair every time when he could be with Thomas—it was too much. Another tragedy in his life, another wasted opportunity….
“Maybe not,” Thomas said. He sounded dizzy. “About me, I mean.”
Alastair blinked. “Speak sense, Lightwood,” he said testily. His words couldn't reach Alastair's brain. “What do you mean?”
“I mean this,” said Thomas, and leaned towards Alastair.
It was a quick kiss. Unsure and shocking and so, so sweet.
Thomas drew back hesitantly. It was obvious he didn't know if this was alright, if he wasn't crossing a line. Alastair caught hold of Thomas’s shirtfront in a firm grip. He slid onto his knees so that they faced each other; with Thomas sitting back on his heels, their heads were at the same level.
“Thomas—” Alastair began. His voice was rough, unsteady. He had a hard time getting a grip on himself. Abruptly, Alastair let go of Thomas’s shirt, started to turn his face away.
“Just imagine,” Thomas said. “What if we’d never gone to the Academy together? What if none of those things had happened, and Paris was the first time we’d met? And this was the second?”
Alastair said nothing. It was an impossible scenario. Just a comfort fantasy for the cold, sad nights that ended up hurting you more than healing you.
He smiled weakly. “Damn you, Thomas,” he said, and there was resignation, yes. Because he was so done pretending, so done hiding what he was feeling towards this amazing man. He wanted to feel every dark, forbidden and sweet thing there was with Thomas.
A moment later he was pulling Thomas toward him. Their bodies collided, awkward and thrilling. Alastair knew he was probably the more experienced of the two but he was barely aware what he was doing.
He had never imagined he would be able to do all this. To touch Thomas' chest, his shoulders and back, his tattoo and Adam's apple. He had never imagined Thomas would tenderly kiss the arch of his throat and smile against Alastair's skin. He had never imagined he would be so happy while waiting to be proved innocent for a crime. But while he was kissing Thomas Lightwood, he thought it was worth it.

Elmer's Glue pt.1
Éomer/Reader
God you just can't get his name right, and it's a shame cause's he's cute af
Awkwardness Humor and Fluff
----
Someone like you shouldn't have survived nearly as long as you did.
You first came tumbling into Middle Earth a few days before departing for some big important quest to destroy a powerful ring, having landed yourself in a place called Rivendell that's full of elves and lovely scenery.
You were presented at some meeting and urged to join this 'Fellowship' and became a valuable member of the group even despite your lack of fighting knowledge, because you somehow had some sort of 6th sense regarding things that have yet to happen.
Just barely did you and your friends survive Helms Deep, The Hornburg, after all of those horrible events (losing Gandalf, Merry and Pippin being captured, and Frodo and Sam departing to continue on on their own), but once all is said and done, you're ecstatic to finally have a moment of rest and celebration.
A grand party is thrown in the royal halls of Rohan, but you're none to interested in the drinking or dancing.
Instead, you opt to watch everyone else enjoy themselves.
At some point after Legolas wipes the floor with Gimli in a drinking game, the prince, and brother of the sweet woman Eowyn, ends up meandering over to where you idly sit.
You remember riding with him to and from Isengard during your journey to reclaim your hobbit friends, though the two of you didn't speak much. It was kind of embarrassing for you to sit so close to him and attempt to share a conversation while looking straight ahead, so you didn't speak much at all, and he didn't engage himself often either.
It was surprising to you how comfortable the journey was, though, all things considered.
His horse was huge and he was just as large, but you never felt afraid or feared falling even once during the ride.
It's not a big deal, but it still stuck out to you since he's so clearly a very skilled rider.
Even after all that, however, you still totally blank out on his name when he suddenly approaches after helping Legolas bring Gimili to the resting area.
Your mind begins to race as you try to remember the name that belongs to him, and all too soon do you realize that you're both staring at each other and he's waiting for your to say something (probably after greeting you, which you did not catch).
"L-Lord... Elmer..." You say slowly after a moment, praying to god you got it right since you took inspiration from your favorite brand of kids glue.
He raises an eyebrow when you say his 'name', and a smile creeps on to his face. "Elmer?"
Ah, shit. You definitely didn't get it right.
"Elmo?" You mentally kick yourself for that one, he's definitely not a small red puppet monster, you would've noticed if he were.
He shakes his head this time, amusement painting his features as you struggle to come up with his actual name.
"Emir?"
Another head shake, and also a full on smile.
"It's not Edgar, is it?" It definitely doesn't sound right, but maybe you'll get lucky.
At this point, you know for a fact that your face is on fire, this is so embarrassing, but you simply can't remember.
"Would you like me to tell you?" He offers after you don't guess again for a time, leaning his arm on the table next to you, leaning closer to you.
Getting help at this point would be mortifying, so you deny his offer for the proper answer and take another crack and guessing. "No, no wait. I've got it! Your name is... Elinor..." You mentally smack yourself in the face for that one; he doesn't even look like an Elinor (mostly because he's not a woman).
"Not quite. Eomer is my name may I remind you."
So your first guess was the closest, but still so far away.
"W-Well, this is extremely embarrassing." You stutter out, adverting your gaze from his eyes which have suddenly become so close.
Eomer can't help but to laugh, and the smile that graces his lips is positively dashing.
You glance back up at him and notice right away, and once more your face begins to burn like a furnace.
"I-I didn't mean to forget, I swear! And I definitely wasn't trying to make fun of you either!"
His chuckles die down when your slightly panicked speech betrays your concern of being disrespectful, and he wastes no time in assuring you that it's perfectly fine. "If you are worried that you've upset me, then do not fret. I'm not offended, simply amused."
Well, that's a relief.
"Um... well, that's good- I guess," you tell him your name, then continue, "I feel so bad. You took me on your horse and everything and I didn't even remember your name! Gosh, I suck."
The tall blond-haired man looks at you oddly when you insult yourself so strangely, and you realize that you forgot to keep your other-word slang to a minimum since it can be hard to understand.
"Right, well, I came over to ask if you would like to join me on a walk outside. Are you interested?" He leans down a bit closer when he asks you this, acting as if he doesn't want anyone else to hear.
Typically you'd be more cautious than this, but you find yourself nodding along regardless.
---
Lord Eomer (you'll definitely remember his name this time, you swear it) took your hand in his and led you outside after you nodded your assent, and while you'd normally dislike being grabbed so casually, you allow it for some reason.
He releases you from his gentle hold once the both of you are beyond the party halls and outside in the cool night air at the bottom of the steps, and you finally find your voice to ask about his intent.
"So... did you want to talk to me about something or...?" You look up at him curiously with your hands clasped in front of you, twisting your heel in the dirt to ease the anxiousness.
"No, nothing in particular. I do have questions, but I simply wanted a moment alone with you," he pauses, then adds slyly, "Your friends have taken up al your time since we arrived, so I had hoped to steal you away for a time."
You aren't sure if you should be flattered, flustered, or both.
"I-I see... well, you've got me now." You mean it as a joke but it's hard to sound humorous when you're so flustered.
He only smiles and nods his head once, "I do."
Cue the awkward silence.
It appears that he's once again waiting for you to say something, so you decide to pull no punches and go straight for the heavy hitting topics.
"So, hows about that battle, huh? Crazy..."
His eyebrows knit together as he thinks over your strange speaking mannerisms, but he doesn't question it and only nods his head instead. "You could say that. The men fought bravely and we lost many, but our victory does not go unrewarded."
"Are you talking about the party?"
"Yes. That, and the knowledge that some of my men get to return home tonight and see their families."
His words bring a small, sad smile to your face, and you speak much more softly this time, "I'm afraid it isn't over, though. With everything going on, it's only a matter of time before we're all sent away again."
"We?"
Oh, right, he doesn't really know about your role in this merry group of misfits.
"Um, yes. I fight, er, kind of. I do my own thing really, but I can't afford to stay behind." It's hard to explain since you aren't sure what the extent of his knowledge is.
His uncle, Theoden, knows almost all about your deal, but does Eomer? He should since he's a key part of this whole Rohan operation, but it's not necessarily your place to tell him either.
"A shield-maiden?" He wonders aloud, taking a seat on the stone steps next to you two.
Even when he's sitting down he's taller than you, and it shoots an arrow of envy through you. The bigger you are, the more intimidated your enemies are, after-all.
"Not quite. I'm not the best at fighting really." It's kind of a lie, actually, because you've got some hidden skill that makes you pretty good at that kind of thing, but it has to do with your foresight to you choose not to explain much further.
Your answer seems to only confuse him more, however, for his eyebrows knit together and his smile tugs downwards into a frown. "You are not? But they bring you into battle regardless?"
Well, shit, now you're making them sound like negligent, reckless idiots.
"N-No- I mean, I'm okay but, uh, it's hard to explain." It's like you somehow just know how to affectively fight; it's like something inside of you just takes over and keeps you from dying, and it proved to be both extremely useful and also unexpected.
They found out about this 'hidden ability' (for lack of a better term) during the battle in which Boromir was slain and you first lost your hobbit friends. You were surrounded and everyone else was fighting for their lives, and in that moment of hopelessness, something inside of you snapped and the floodgates were opened.
Your skill lies in defense, not offense, but it was all you needed to make it through the fight alive and intact.
"I-I know it seems like they were being irresponsible, but there's more to the story- I swear!" You try to defend, taking a step closer to his seated form, "Really, they need me, so it'd be even more irresponsible if they didn't bring me along."
He doesn't seem to get it, for his doubtful expression remains and his frown deepens, but he tries not to judge too much either. "I... see."
A subject change seems like the best course of action, so you decide to ask him a question of your own. "W-Well... anyways. Why'd you want me to come out here with you?"
"I simply wished to learn more about the beautiful newcomer that graced our halls, and I find that I'm even more entranced than before."
Lord Eomer's words bring a flush to your face and leave you flustered, and it seems you can't get your brain to form a coherent thought either.
"Have my words troubled you?" He asks when you still don't manage to find your voice.
"N-No, it's not that..." You trail off and cover your mouth and nose coyly, looking off to the side when you find that you can't meet his gaze any longer. "I'm just not sure how to reply to that. I've been here so long I don't even remember how to flirt." Your words are, of course, an embarrassed joke, and it seems to land well for he chortles with amusement.
"If that is all it is, then it must be fine that I say you've caught my eye, and I'm afraid I cannot get it back until I know more."
"Know more about... m-me?" You repeat slowly, simply trying to wrap your head around it all, "Like... Like what?"
Another dashing smile brightens his handsome features, and this time your heart flutters nervously when he does, "Anything."
You twiddle your thumbs in front of you and dip your head down, racking your brain for any information that would be interesting but not super telling in terms of your 'earth of origin.'
"Um... I can do this-" You raise one of your hands and bend your fingers all the way back until they're perpendicular with your palm, displaying your double jointed fingers effortlessly.
He stares at your hand trick for all of 5 seconds before he's standing up and worriedly asking, "Have you broken your hand?" He takes your hand in his own, delicately turning it around in search of bruises.
"N-No," you pause and look at his larger hands taking yours, then add shyly after, "It's just a trick. I'm double-jointed."
"Double-jointed?" He repeats slowly, not releasing your hand though he does cease his search for damage. "I... see."
He sure does say that a lot.
"I can also do this." You take back one of your hands and reach into your pocket and pull out a lighter that you've had with you all this time, then you ignite a flame and brandish it proudly.
The blond-haired man looks on with wide eyes, and he reaches out towards it, asking with amazement in his voice, "You created fire so effortlessly!'
"Yeah, this little device has, er, oil in it and it ignites it using a spark." It has been helpful many a-night when everyone else has been out and about doing stuff and you were left to tend to the fires. "Don't get too close though, it's hot."
He nods his head once and drops his hands to his dies, watching the small flame dance on the lighter before you blow it out and place it back in your pocket.
"Where did you find such a magnificent contraption?" He asks once it's out of sight, looking down at you with curiosity sparkling in his eyes.
"I, um... made it." You think it best to lie, though he doesn't appear to fall for it, and change the subject. "So, how about that weather we're having?"
Your sudden and shitty subject change makes him raise an inquisitive eyebrow, but after a moment he starts to laugh, "Yes, the night sky's are very clear tonight. As it should be the morrow after a raging battle."
It's strange and none too awkward since you're no good at this, but this normalcy actually almost makes you forget all the shit you've seen up until now.
"I would very much like to see you again." He says suddenly when the conversation dies down and you both just stand there in silence.
You look back up at him and offer a small smile, repeating softly, "Sure. I'd like that as well. But I'm still here, so we don't have to talk about later just yet, right?"
"I suppose not." He reaches down and grabs your right hand gently, raising it up while he also leans down, then he presses a feather soft kiss to the middle of the back of your hand.
Eomer looks up at you while he does so, and you find that your face has begun to heat up once more.
When he doesn't move to stand normally and continues to look up at you expectantly, you ask uncertainly, "Am I supposed to kiss your hand too, or...?"
It seems you're quite the comedian to this guy, for he stands up straight again and bursts into joyful laughter, reaching down to pat your shoulders, "No no, but if you wish to offer me one somewhere else then I would not deny it."
People in this place really waste no time beating around the bush, though you suppose they can't afford to waste much time when things like the Battle at Helms Deep happen every so often.
There are murderous orcs everywhere and danger at every turn for them nowadays, do you actually feel a sense of appreciation for his forwardness.
This time you find yourself laughing too, and you readily reply, "Maybe next time, Lord Eomer. We only just met, you know. I could be trying to steal a place in the royal line, for all you know."
His smile does not waver despite your warning against yourself, for he only shakes his head and squeezes your shoulders gently, "No, such motives always make themselves clear early on. Unfortunately for me, you're honest."
"Unfortunately?"
"Unfortunate for my heart, yes."

can we try again?
@alexroyard asked if this story had a part two. i’m in a writing mood, so i guess it does now.
OR, the one where Becca knows that she’s accidentally fallen in love, hates that she’s fallen in love (except not really), and is a little bit self-destructive.
-
-
they bump into each other at a party a few days into the new quarter. it’s brief, barely a moment, and naturally, it’s a complete disaster.
they find each other in the empty hall just outside Alex’s suite. there’s music beating just inside, but there’s something quiet that settles when their eyes lock—something quiet and calm and only for the two of them.
they move closer together. as if pulled by some unknowable force. Becca wonders if Alex can feel it too.
Alex says, “hey,” when they’re only a foot apart.
and Becca itches to say something. ask one of the questions that have been burning in her mind for weeks. but all she does in yank Alex in for a kiss that’s slow and soft and so damn easy to get lost in.
their tongues move together so effortlessly and easily, it’s as if this is what they were always meant to do. Becca lets herself fall into it, lets her grip on Alex’s jacket loosen, and her fingers sink into Alex’s hair.
Becca tells herself that she’s trying to prove something to herself. that she’s not in love with Alex; could never be in love with Alex. her brain laughs and says, you know that’s not true.
then Becca feels Alex’s arms settle around her waist and that’s when she pushes her away. because suddenly it’s real.
she says, “fuck you,” and doesn’t add anything else. doesn’t dare ask why didn’t you call? why did you leave? why why why?
Alex looks confused and tries to apologise. but Becca doesn’t bother sticking around. she feels tears in her eyes but doesn’t dare stop running until she’s outside and can finally breathe.
-
the next time Becca sees Alex, it’s at the auditions for James’ play. she can only see the back of her, but Becca knows it’s her. and she thinks of leaving before Alex has a chance to see her.
leaving would be the safer option. the easier option. but running isn’t something she does. it’s Alex who makes her run. who makes her feel giddy and happy and ignites something warm and intense inside her. and— what was the point of this again?
whatever. but she’ll be damned if she runs because of Alex again.
Alex turns around and sees her standing near the stage. she offers a hesitant smile and wave. the gesture warms Becca. but she still marches up to Alex and says something nasty. she just can’t stop herself. and then she walks away. tries to hold her head high even though she feels like shit inside.
Becca watches from the side as Alex and Chris talk and laugh in hushed whispers as they practice their lines. she feels something green flare up in the pit of her stomach. she almost marches right over to the pair, but then some guy walks in and he looks vaguely interesting so Becca goes and introduces herself.
Sebastian, she learns. he comes from money and seems to take pleasure in undermining Alex and her ragtag group of friends. and maybe that irritates Becca a bit. but she sees the way Alex’s gaze stays on her when she brushes her hand against Sebastian’s arm. and maybe that ignites a quiet thrill inside her.
-
the opening night of the play arrives. and when Kaitlyn and Alex kiss on stage, Becca silently wishes that she was on stage with Alex.
-
there’s a cast party later and Becca tosses with the idea of not going at all. but, naturally, thirty minutes later, she finds herself in Alex’s kitchen making a drink as a party rages on around her.
she flirts with Sebastian. tries to tell herself that this can work. even as she knows that it won’t.
her brain seems to take pity on her and leaves her alone for a while.
she moves up to the rooftop terrace later in the night. it’s empty—a small blessing due to the cold—and Becca wraps her coat tighter around her body as she leans against the railing.
“i was hoping to find you up here,” a voice says a few minutes later.
Becca glances over her shoulder and finds Alex leaning against the closed door with her hands buried deep in her pockets. Alex offers one of her easy smiles as she steps up to the railing beside Becca.
“enjoying the party?” Alex asks.
Becca hums and fiddles with her fingers. Alex then reaches out and cups Becca’s hands in her own. everything goes quiet in an instant and Becca stares at their hands clasped together and doesn’t feel the cold around them anymore.
she doesn’t dare look up and meet Alex’s gaze; she knows what she’ll see, and she’s almost certain she won’t be able to come back from that.
the door flies opens a short while later and Kaitlyn and Abbie stumble onto the terrace. and their quiet moment falls away like water down a drain. Becca slips away while Alex is talking to Kaitlyn, and she’s almost certain Abbie gives her an odd understanding smile. almost like she knows.
there’s not even anything to know, Becca thinks.
that’s not true, her brain sing-songs.
-
she hangs out with Sebastian a lot. makes a show of always touching his arm or shoulder or something like that when she sees Alex nearby. she knows and yet she doesn’t know at all why she does that.
her brain tells her to stop, that this isn’t a good idea. but Becca ignores it and focuses on the way Alex’s gaze burns into her.
-
they don’t see each other much for a while. just passing glances that simultaneously hurt and excite. but she always goes back to Sebastian.
she even helps him with collecting signatures for the student body president election. she sees Alex a few times then. says a few catty remarks that she doesn’t at all mean. and feels that pull, that desire, to be closer to Alex. she wonders, again, if Alex can feel it too.
her brain doesn’t give her answer for that one though. and Becca finds that she misses the sarcastic comments.
-
there’s the sixties themed party where they have a moment. Becca wonders if she can even call it a moment. because all she did was pull Alex aside and tell her something that might help Chris win the election.
so it was nothing. more of a favour really. but then when Alex returns with the damaging information about Sebastian, she slides up to Becca’s side and whispers “thank you,” and then links their pinkies together.
maybe it was a moment then. because it matters. it means something. right?
when Becca watches Alex laughing and dancing across the room later in the night, she wonders if Alex would ever help her like she just did with Chris.
-
she breaks up with Sebastian.
her brain says fucking finally! i’ve been waiting for weeks.
but Becca just feels empty and doesn’t have any energy left to bite back.
-
and then, finally, there’s the dance at the end of the quarter on the boat. Becca goes solo again and tries to fly under the radar. she spots Alex walk in a little while later with all her friends.
she feels that ache return. although now she’s almost certain she knows what the ache is for.
Alex offers a smile and a wave, and Becca’s cheeks warm barely-so as she returns the gesture in kind.
it’s later in the night when they find each other on some quiet part of the deck. the wind is cold against their skin, so they stand close together. maybe closer than what they should.
and there’s something simmering between them—hasn’t there always been? it bubbles and hisses and Becca wonders how much longer they’ll be able to last.
she’s not sure who breaks first, who bubbles over with want and desire. because suddenly they’re kissing and groping and moaning. and it’s somehow wonderful and terrible and feels like electricity is zapping across her veins.
it hurts and it heals and Becca needs more. there’s a bathroom nearby, barely big enough for the both of them, but they stumble inside and make it work.
Becca lets Alex press her up against the wall and hike her dress up around her waist as her hands wander and explore. she pulls at Alex’s hair and swallows the groan that falls from her mouth. and suddenly she feels everything.
it’s like she’s been hit with a freight train. there’s the heat and the desire, and the pain of not knowing and the pain of hoping and needing. she doesn’t even realise that she’s crying until Alex’s stops what she’s doing.
“i’m fine,” she says, trying to pull Alex in again to kiss away all the pain.
“hey, you can talk to me,” Alex says, and Becca knows that’s a fact. “was it something i did? do you want me to leave or—”
“no!” Becca holds on tight to Alex’s shoulders. “don’t leave. not again.”
“okay.” Alex stays and then pulls Becca in for a hug. she holds her for a long time—long enough to mean something. and only pulls away when Becca is ready.
“sorry,” Becca says.
“what for?” Alex asks, brows knitting together in confusion.
“a lot of things. mostly for being cruel.”
“you weren’t cruel. a little rude maybe. but definitely not cruel.”
Becca smiles. “you’re too good.”
Alex shrugs and grins a little sheepishly.
“no but you are.” Becca stresses the words. wants Alex to know that she means them. “things between us got messy—maybe they always were—and my head was just so... busy, so i had a lot of misdirected anger towards you. i’m sorry.”
“i know you are.” Alex rests their foreheads together, and Becca wonders if they can ever get better. “you look gorgeous, by the way.”
“you too.”
“do you wanna dance?”
“in here?” she gestures vaguely to the tight bathroom they’re currently in.
“outside. we can go somewhere quiet so no one will see. but we didn’t get to dance together at the last dance, so i thought it might be nice.”
Becca feels a warmth bloom in her chest and spread out from there. she fixes her dress and hair in the mirror, and so does Alex, before they slip out of the bathroom and find a quiet part of the boat where they can still hear the low hum of music.
they share one song together. and Becca really hopes that this isn’t the end. that they can try again.
they head back to the party, their hands slipping apart when they can hear the voices of their classmates getting closer.
Alex returns to her friends. and Becca doesn’t feel that ache anymore. it’s been replaced by something different. something good.
you know what that is, don’t you? her brain says.
she thinks that she does. but she’s not quite ready to say it yet.
her brains says, that’s fine. whenever you’re ready.
and Becca wonders when her brain became so understanding. but it doesn’t matter—not really anyway. because she’s found something good. something worth trying for. so who really cares about all the other little details?

A/N: A huge thank you to my wonderful beta Sam @buckyofthemyscira Feedback is always appreciated!
PART 8 | HEY NEIGHBOR MASTERLIST
The lobby of Stark Industries is bright and almost blinding compared to the dull grey that looms over the city outside. To make matters worse, the sky would darken into a deep black in just a few hours, a depressing casualty of setting the clocks back.
It was mid-November with winter closing in. You bundle up your coat, adjusting your scarf before daring to step outside. You were having a conversation with Steve, or at least you thought you were.
“He’s been like this all day,” Mr. Lee said, laughing as a confused Steve finally picked his head up from his phone.
Steve apologized as his cheeks turned pink, again. He was texting Peggy and he just couldn’t help the way he felt about her. They had gone on a few dates since they met on Halloween weekend and Steve was one-hundred percent smitten.
“Well anyway, I have to head to Metro-Gen now so you boys have a good afternoon,” you said, saluting them before stepping outside.
Your internship was going well. It had only been a few months but you were very comfortable working in this type of environment. You were familiar with the hospital and some of the ER staff other than Sam. You assisted Elena with her cases and tried not to forget everything you’ve ever learned while under pressure. It was scary but exciting and most of all you were happy to provide assistance and care to those that needed it.
When the weekend finally came you were thrilled to finish up your hours at the hospital. You were cold and tired, and really wanted to take off your bra immediately. Wanda was coming over which was rare since she and Sam became official. Any time he had off they tried to spend together and you understood it, especially with the hours required for his job but you really missed her and were happy to finally hang out after so long.
“So you seriously can’t eat this?” you said, taking a hefty dip of guacamole onto your chip.
“Uh yes I can bitch, don’t hog all the guacamole,” Wanda joked, pushing you aside as she grabbed the dish for herself. “I just can’t eat the chips.”
Wanda was always trying new diets, not that she ever needed to be on one. She was doing the Keto diet now and while you applauded her commitment you could never give up carbs like that.
She sat cross legged on your couch, moving her fork around her bowl absentmindedly as she worked up the courage to speak. “So I wanted to ask you something…”
A pang of anxiety hit your stomach as it tends to do whenever someone says those words, but you tried to remain neutral, wondering what Wanda was going to say.
“I know we usually have Thanksgiving together but Sam happened to be off this year and I know it’s really soon but he invited me for dinner at his parents’ house and I haven’t said yes yet because I wanted to speak with you first because I know it’s our tradition to do something together but– ”
“Wanda!” You had to shout her name so she could stop and take a breath. You smiled at her, letting her know you were okay with her having Thanksgiving with Sam. “I’m really happy for you,” you said against her ear as she leaned over to hug you.
That night you thought about Wanda and Steve, how they both got into a relationship on Halloween. Meanwhile, the only thing you got that night was a blister on your heel.
“Hey neighbor.”
Bucky’s voice echoed from down the hall as he stepped out of the elevator, seeing you locking your door, with a laundry bag at your feet.
With everyone’s new relationships and Natasha prepping for a case no one has gone out since Halloween and things definitely felt a little weird.
“Hey,” you replied shakily, offering an awkward smile in return.
The truth was you were still upset with Bucky on Halloween. Well, not just you but the whole group. It had been weighing on you each day that passed without seeing him. The closer Bucky got to you and his door, the more nervous you felt and you really wanted to get this off your chest.
“Bucky… sorry this is out of the blue but…” You chewed on your lip trying to figure out exactly what to say.
His brows knit together. “Is everything alright?”
You forced a tense smile, wishing you hadn’t said anything in the first place, especially with the way concern filled those ocean blue eyes of his.
“Yeah I just…” With another big sigh you pushed the words out. “I thought it was kind of rude for you to ditch everyone on Halloween without saying goodbye. I know we’re not that close and you don’t owe me or anyone an explanation for wanting to leave or whatever but I don’t know, I just… needed to say that.”
Your lips pressed together firmly, feeling your heart pound rapidly against your chest as you waited to face whatever backlash there was after sharing your feelings.
Bucky sighed, letting his shoulders slump down. “I’m sorry Y/N. Honestly, that’s not how I wanted that night to end. But you were talking with that guy so I didn’t want to interrupt anything and everyone else had each other so I thought I’d do my own thing.”
“Guy? What guy?” You wondered out loud. When Bucky described him you realized he was talking about Bruce. “You thought something was going on with me and that guy? No, no. He’s a friend from work, just a friend.”
“Shit. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to block… anything… just in case.” Bucky chuckled, flashing his bright teeth as he smiled. “Still that was a dick move of me so I’m sorry.”
You accepted Bucky’s apology, feeling a little better about why he left the way he did. It didn’t mean he wouldn’t have left with that girl anyway, not that you care, because you don’t. Although now that most of your friends were in relationships you were feeling a little envious. It’s not that you didn’t want to date but you were too focused on work and school at the moment.
“Well I guess I’ll see you later,” you said, picking up your laundry bag.
“Wait!”
Throughout your conversation one thing stuck out the most in Bucky’s mind, when you said you weren’t close. He really thought you were and he’s not sure why it affected him so much but he wanted to change that and make it right.
You’ve definitely become a good friend of his even if you hadn’t gotten off on the right foot. And maybe he’s been a little busy lately, he hasn’t kept up on the group chat and didn’t think about how his lack of communication impacted anyone else. You were his friend, and so were Steve, Sam, Natasha, Clint and Wanda. He wanted to do better and be there for everyone so he might as well start now.
“If you wouldn’t mind the company I actually need to do my laundry too.”
There wasn’t any hesitation as you nodded back to him, your lips pulling into a smile that grew wider when he returned one of his own. Bucky took a few minutes to gather his laundry and together you walked a few blocks to the laundromat.
It wasn’t too crowded for a Sunday afternoon which was a pleasant surprise so the machines were pretty available. Bucky shared his detergent with you which was kind, saving your quarters from buying the single use packs the shop offered.
You sat beside him on uncomfortable chairs, bouncing your leg to keep warm as you shivered. There was some heat circulating through the room, a muggy wet heat that poured out every time someone opened the machines to check on their still damp clothes. Bucky was a good distraction, keeping you focused on your conversation as you caught up on what’s been going on in your lives.
“Thanksgiving’s going to be a little weird this year with Wanda and Steve doing their own thing but it’s alright.”
Bucky heard the disappointment you tried to hide in your tone but your face didn’t mask the emotions as well. He listened as you explained this was your tradition since you moved to New York. Since you couldn’t afford to fly home for both Thanksgiving and the holidays you had to choose, and so every year you spent the day with friends.
“Why don’t you spend it with me?” he asked, watching as the corner of your mouth slowly began to turn upwards into a smile.
“With you? You don’t go to your parent’s house?”
Bucky’s expression softened, “Normally I do but this year they’re flying out to spend Thanksgiving weekend with Rebecca.”
“Where does she live again?”
“It’s ‘they’ and Arizona.” Bucky rubbed the chill from his arms despite wearing a jacket. “Kinda wish I was there right now,” he chuckled.
The machines shook for their final spin cycle and you and Bucky got up in preparation to grab your clothes.
“You didn’t want to go with them?” you wondered.
“I’ve got a lot to work on plus I’ll see Bex soon, they usually come in for Christmas. So… is that a yes? I know I’m not Wanda or Steve but I’m still your friend.”
Bucky’s expression was hopeful as he awaited your answer. A beaming smile spread across your face as you replied, “Yes. I’d love to have Thanksgiving with you!”
If you looked at Bucky’s browser history over the last few weeks you would find a lot of food related searches: How to cook a turkey, how long to cook a turkey, how to cook a turkey fast, easiest way to cook a turkey, simple Thanksgiving dinner, Thanksgiving for 2, best Thanksgiving sides.
He wanted to make your Thanksgiving special but truthfully Bucky wasn’t the best in the kitchen. He could cook a few things but the idea of making a full Thanksgiving dinner was daunting and he couldn’t exactly ask his mother for help.
Since it was going to be just the two of you he finally found his answer– Thanksgiving dinner on a sheet pan. Bucky wrote out the list of groceries he needed, making sure he had everything needed so he could prepare the dinner.
You were working a full day at the hospital so Bucky had extra time to prepare for your arrival. His clothes were folded neatly, placed in his drawers that could now actually close. He made his bed, well he made sure the pillows were straight and draped his comforter over everything neatly. His instruments were gathered together neatly beside his desk and he made sure his bathroom was clean. Bucky spritzed his cologne in the air for good measure to make sure everything smelled nice.
Once that was done it finally dawned on him that he didn’t have a table. “Good job Barnes,” he scolded himself as he cleared away the last remaining clutter on the trunk that served as his coffee table. It would have to make do.
Bucky opened the package he bought at the store, a harvest themed tablecloth that was entirely too big for the trunk but with a few extra folds he made it look alright. It was an extra touch he hoped you would be happy to see. Checking his phone Bucky began to prepare the food, hoping to time it right for when you were coming by.
“No, no, no,” you cried, passing another bakery that was sold out of pies.
You hadn’t planned this properly. Not one bit. With Bucky preparing dinner you offered to bring the dessert and for some reason you thought making pumpkin pie from scratch would be easy. You were very wrong.
By the time you got home last night you were too exhausted to even look at the recipe. You needed sleep and had no shame in going to bed pretty much right away. The fact that it gets dark before five o’clock definitely helped you justify your early bedtime.
The genius idea you had was to wake up a little early so you could make the pie crust which might have worked out if you hadn’t overslept. Yes, despite the extra sleep you got your body wanted more.
Although you made it to work on time you ruined any shot at trying to snag a pie from any bakery along the way. Now you were headed home, defeated and upset with yourself for ruining Thanksgiving.
You trudged through the hallway, sighing heavily as you stood outside of Bucky’s apartment. Your knuckles rapped against the door, waiting for him to answer. Bucky pulled open the door with a smile that dropped the moment he saw your face.
“Y/N, is everything okay?” His hand came upon your shoulder as he offered comfort.
With another deep sigh you shook your head, “No… well yes.” You reconsidered your words, not wanting to worry him. “I ruined Thanksgiving.”
His mouth opened but Bucky didn’t speak, silently wondering why you think you’ve ruined something that hasn’t happened yet.
“I said I would bring dessert and I wanted to bake but I was too exhausted, so I thought I’d get something from the store but everything was sold out and now I feel like a shitty friend.”
Bucky couldn’t help but smile at the way you pouted so seriously over something as insignificant as dessert.
“Hey, c’mere,” he said, opening his arms. You rested your head against Bucky’s chest wrapping your arms around him as he rubbed circles on your back through your jacket. “You didn’t ruin anything, doll, I promise.”
With a few more reassurances from Bucky you pulled away from his embrace, feeling a little better even if part of you was still disappointed. You told him you would be over in a few minutes, desperate to change your clothes.
Bucky’s door was unlocked and you let yourself in, now wearing a loose sweater and black leggings that would allow you to feel comfortable as you stuffed your face, and casual slip-ons your feet thanked you for. Bucky was equally casual, in a dark grey t-shirt and black jeans so you didn’t feel bad for underdressing.
You stepped inside seeing the coffee table set up in a themed tablecloth and a scented pumpkin candle that smelled delicious as it spread throughout the room.
“Dinner should be ready in a minute or so. Can I get you something to drink?” he asked as you set your bag down beside the couch.
“Wine, I guess?” You weren’t really picky to be honest, happily taking the glass of Pinot Noir as Bucky poured for you and himself.
Bucky barely had a chance to take a sip before the alarm on his phone was going off, his reminder to take the food out of the oven.
“I hope this is okay,” he said, pulling out the sheet pan of turkey breasts surrounded by stuffing, green beans and sweet potatoes.
Your mouth was watering as you inhaled the enticing aroma. “Mmmm it looks delicious. Do you need any help?”
Bucky shook his head, telling you to relax. It was hard, because even though you were still pretty tired from the day you felt like you should be doing more than sipping wine on his couch. You stared at Bucky as he stood in the kitchen, dividing the food amongst two plates.
The muscles of his back were entrancing to watch as they moved beneath his shirt. Dropping your gaze you couldn’t help but stare at the way his jeans hugged his butt.
“You like what you see?”
Bucky’s voice seemingly came out of nowhere as you hadn’t realized he was looking over his shoulder.
“What? No, I’m… tired and stuck in a comfortable stare,” you laughed quickly, masking the awkwardness of definitely getting caught staring at his ass.
Bucky chuckled under his breath. He placed both dishes down, proud of the work he had done. Pressing his lips together Bucky had hope written across his face as he waited for your reaction.
Your hand came up to cover your mouth as you tried to chew fast enough so you could tell him how delicious it was. A smile stretched across his face, happy that he made you happy, and then Bucky began to dig in.
There wasn’t much to watch after deciding to skip over all the football games and sitcom reruns but choosing from Netflix wasn’t much better. There were a dozen cheesy, romantic Christmas movies but neither of you wanted to watch any of those.
“Oh how about this?” Bucky asked as he flashed by Nailed It! Your eyes lit up with delight as you nodded your head. If there was one show that made you feel better about your baking skills it was watching these hilarious disasters.
Bucky had the cutest laugh. The sound itself wasn’t anything out of the ordinary but the way that his whole face lit up while he was laughing. The joy reached his eyes first with crinkles pulling at the corners, his nose scrunched up reminding you of a bunny, and that smile… Bucky had one of the nicest smiles you’d ever seen because it had the power to make your own greater just by looking at it.
You were crying with laughter as the contestants revealed their cakes, each one somehow more horrifying than the last. By the third episode you found yourself comfortably resting your head against Bucky. It was nice to have someone to hang out with like this again especially since Steve had rightfully been spending most of his free time with Peggy.
“I hope you don’t get your baking skills from this show. Maybe it’s a good thing you didn’t make pie,” Bucky teased. Your immediate response was to playfully smack his leg. “Ow I’m kidding!”
“It would have been good, a thousand times better than this,” you gestured towards the screen.
Bucky cocked his head to face you. “So let’s make it now.”
Your head shook rejecting his suggestion. “It takes too long. The dough needs to rest for a while after you mix it and I don’t want to eat pie at two in the morning. Not when I have to get up early again.”
With another day off from Stark Industries you’d be spending a full day at the hospital, trying to chip away at all those hours you needed to do.
“It’s still early, we can make something right? Cookies? Is that the same dough?” Bucky asked, because even though you had to be up early he still wanted to spend time with you and he could also go for dessert.
“It’s not exactly the same but I have all the ingredients. Do you want to make cookies?”
Bucky’s stomach rumbled as if on cue making both of you laugh.
Since it was easier to bake in your apartment you helped Bucky clean up the dishes you made in his, feeling it was rude to leave things a mess. Bucky didn’t want you to clean but you at least insisted on rinsing the plates clean and since you were at the sink anyway you ended up washing most of them.
You didn’t see the way Bucky smiled while watching you. This was probably the only time he’s felt comfortable having a woman linger in his apartment. His flings all begged to draw out their time, promising him pancakes or the best eggs and bacon he’s ever had. As hard as they tried, he shut them all down ushering them out quickly but things with you were different. You were friends and closer than he would ever be to any of the random names in his phone.
In your apartment Bucky helped gather the ingredients needed. Counter space and New York didn’t exactly go together, not in your price range, but together you cleared space on your kitchen table and set everything up there.
Bucky ignored his phone that rang as he cracked eggs into the large bowl you were using to mix everything together in. He picked up the bag of chocolate chips pouring a generous amount in the dough, not that you minded; the more chocolate the better!
Together you scooped up balls of dough onto a baking sheet and placed them in the oven.
“Bucky!” You turned to find him swiping his finger through the bowl of raw dough and eating it.
“What?”
“You can’t eat that you’ll get sick!” you protested, taking the bowl away from him and washing it before he could risk his chance of getting E. coli any further.
He sucked his finger into his mouth, smiling, “No one has ever gotten sick from eating raw cookie dough.” His comment had you look back, blinking in silence. “Okay well I’m sure someone has but it’s never happened to me.”
“I want you to enjoy these cookies Bucky, not vomit all over the place.”
He brought over the rest of the bowls that needed to be washed, this time taking over and returning the favor since you washed his dishes. “You mean you wouldn’t take care of me if I got sick?” He pouted, tilting his head and raising his eyebrows.
“Not a chance,” you said teasingly, unable to hold back your smile.
Checking your phone you pulled out the cookies just in time for them to be crisp and chewy. After letting them cool you let Bucky take the first bite this time, watching as his eyes rolled back as he let a sinful moan slip.
“So fucking good. You’re amazing.”
This isn’t the first time you’d heard similar praise coming from Bucky, and combined with the orgasmic look on his face it made you turn away with embarrassment, now having a visual of what things might be like at night on the side of the wall. You grabbed a cookie to distract your mind, biting into buttery perfection with a massive amount of chocolate thanks to Bucky’s heavy hand.
“Thanks for a great Thanksgiving Bucky. Tonight was awesome,” you said, kissing him on the cheek before wrapping your arms around him.
“You’re welcome Y/N,” he murmured against you, squeezing back a little tighter, both of you now aware of the friendly kiss you had given him.
Bucky left with a dish containing most of the cookies at your insistence. He couldn’t help but eat a few more when he was back in his apartment. Before getting into bed Bucky listened to the voicemail he received earlier.
“Hi James, it’s Mom. We missed you tonight. I don't know why your deadline was on a holiday but I hope you finished everything. I set aside some leftovers in case you wanted to come over tomorrow. Call me back. I love you.”

If you don't mind answering, what's it like to be part of a large system? Are there people that don't show up that often?
It’s pretty different from being in a small system dynamic-wise, at least in my experience. Instead of the small close-knit family of 2-5 individuals we used to be, our function has shifted to be closer to that of a workplace. Most of my systemmates feel more like coworkers as opposed to family members now. I don’t know some of them too well, some of them I don’t get along with, but almost all of us have a common goal: keeping the body functional.
As opposed to one big group of people or a big friend group like our system used to be, everyone has their own friends and people they like to hang out with within the system, just like how you probably wouldn’t find a group of 90+ people all being great friends with each other in the physical world. Generalizing here a bit, but we tend to find that smaller systems are all in one (or sometimes two) groups as opposed to a lot of different groups of friends.
There’s some people that hardly, if not never show up to the front. Those people sometimes interact with people inside, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they’re just kind of there and don’t have any interest in doing much outside or with the system, but they either want to stay to do their own thing, or they can’t leave for whatever reason. We’ve had a few people leave over the years, and most of our members have the ability to, they just choose not to.
Organising the system is a bit of a pain sometimes because of all the separate groups, which is why we have three hosts (people in charge of the body and system) and are planning on asking a few more people to be hosts too. If not more hosts, appointing “representatives” of the groups within the system to attend system meetings is something we’re looking into doing, to make everyone’s opinions count without getting all 90+ of us into one area to discuss things.
Other than that, sharing front time between the members that do want to front is a bit hard to organise sometimes, which is why we’ve been debating making a fronting schedule at some point. It’s not too much of a problem right now, but perhaps in the future it’d be something for us to set up.
I rambled a bit there, but if you have any more questions, definitely feel free to ask!

I Know : Hyejoo x Reader
The Mnet Asian Music Awards, or MAMA awards was known to be one of the biggest award shows in kpop. Your group and many others had been invited as guests and performers. What you didn’t expect was to get offered a special stage with a male idol. More specifically you had a special stage with Taeyong of NCT.
To be honest you didn’t know how you were the one offered the opportunity. Given the fact that you were a rookie, only have debuting about a year ago. Either way you were still insanely happy that you were able to perform with such a well respected senior.
The one problem you ran into right away was that you didn’t exactly know how to tell your girlfriend about it. Of course she would be happy for you but you knew she’d be not the most enthusiastic about seeing you dance with a guy. Especially given the style of performance you and Taeyong were given.
So you just ended up not telling Hyejoo about the stage at all. It was supposed to be a secret stage, your own members weren’t allowed to know. You knew your manager would probably be upset with you if you told her anyway. So you just decided to stay quiet.
It was now the night before the big day and you couldn’t sleep. You’d slipped out of your bed and walked outside onto the balcony deciding that what you needed was a breath of fresh air.
“Y/N? Honey, why are you out here?” Sieun, your leader asked gently.
You replied “I cant sleep...nerves for tomorrow I guess.”
Sieun asked “do you want me to call Hyejoo? She’s on the floor below us right?”
You immediately replied, maybe a little too fast “no no...I mean- no thats okay. I don’t want to disturb her.”
Sieun wrapped and arm around your shoulder “it’s getting late and we have to be up early in the morning. Especially you, you can sleep in my bed hmm?”
You nodded then realized what she said “wait- how did you know-”
She replied “I know everything, come on now.”

The next day you’d been woken up and taken to do a few quick practices with Taeyong. You liked him, he was nice and constantly joked around to try and make you more comfortable. But you still couldn’t ignore the pit in the bottom of your stomach.
As your group did hair and makeup you scrolled through your phone, different friends of you and your members coming in to say hi. You couldn’t help but feel guilty when you saw your girlfriend come to find you.
She managed to pull you from the room to find privacy somewhere else. Almost immediately she could tell something was wrong by the way you couldn’t even look her in the eye.
“What’s wrong?” She reached down for your hand but you couldn’t even bring yourself to hold it.
“I-I’m sorry I’m just distracted. Nerves before the big performance you know?” You tried to play it off but it was no use.
Hyejoo saw right through you, “you’re not telling me something. I know you don’t get nervous before stages, you never do.”
Your breath caught in your throat but she pulled you into her arms “just relax. Whatever it is that’s bothering you will be over soon, I can tell. If you want to tell me you can, but if not you don’t have to. Your group is going to to great tonight. If you need me you know where to find me ok?”
You nodded before squeezing her tight, happy that she wasn’t pushing you to say whatever it was that was bothering you.
Hyejoo was right when she said your group performance would go well. It went even better than that, perfect even. Every single one of your members killed their parts and you did too.
Your group happened to be sitting across from Loona so when you got up for your special stage, Hyejoo noticed immediately. Her eyebrows knitted together in confusion and her facial expression alone asked “are you okay?”
You nodded and reassured her that you were fine before following your manager back to your dressing room.
Looking yourself over in the mirror you smiled softly when you saw how beautiful you looked. The outfit your stylist had picked out was...just enough to make you feel slightly sexy but still very comfortable.
You made your way to the stage and the lights dimmed. Everyone fell silent not knowing what was happening. When the lights came on and they saw it was you, they gasped in surprise. It was only when the music came on and you started to dance that the arena erupted into cheers once more. When Taeyong made his entrance you relaxed and danced more fluidly.
Throughout your performance you looked in Hyejoo’s general direction. It took everything in you not to laugh at how she smiled when you danced alone, but the second Taeyong touched you she glared at him. You’d definitely tease her with videos fans would take of her watching the performance.
The special stage was a success and both you and Taeyong enjoyed it. You weren’t able to see Hyejoo until after the awards show when you were back at your hotel.
Your group members had gone to see their other friends on different floors, while you stayed back in your room. Finally you’d been able to take a hot shower and remove your makeup, sitting around in your pajamas doing nothing.
A knock at the front door is what tore your eyes away from Mulan that played on the tv in front of you.
“Hmmm?” You hummed as you answered the door, expecting it to be Sieun or one of your other members.
“Can I come in?” Hyejoo mumbled softly.
You pulled her inside and went straight to your bed, wanting to just relax again.
“You did well today, I told you there was nothing to worry about.” Hyejoo told you whilst pulling your arm around her shoulder.
You asked “do you liked my special stage...?”
She nodded “of course. It was really good, I liked that you didn’t tell me, it was a good surprise...” Her voice trailed off towards the end.
You furrowed your eyebrows at her “now you’re the one not telling me something.”
She played with your fingers, refusing to move her eyes from the tv in front of you two. Without warning you clicked off the tv and waited for her to say what was on her mind.
You sat up against the headboard and pulled her closer so she was straddling your lap. Your hands found her waist easily, trailing your hands along her skin softly.
She was still not looking at you, her eyes staying on the blankets on the bed around you.
Gently, you asked “Joojoo...?”
It was the use of the familiar nickname that caught her attention. Her fingers toyed with a seam on your shirt and asked “do you still lo-like me?”
Your heart broke at the tone of her voice and this is when you remembered: even though Hyejoo was quite confident, she still had small insecurities that filled her mind. Despite her outwards appearance, she’s a huge softie. Simply a baby that needs love and reassurance.
“Why would you say that?” You tilted your head so your eyes found hers, but she quickly looked away.
You lifted her head with your thumb, “baby? Do you wanna talk about whatever it is that’s bothering you?”
She rolled off of you and said “it’s just- I don’t know I saw you with him and it just made me think. It’s stupid, i’m sorry...”
You knew that it was hard for her to even have these kind of talks with you, so you didn’t bother having her look you in the eye. It would only make her want to avoid the conversation even more.
“Baby don’t apologize. If something bothers you no matter how small, it’s important to me. Taeyong and I were strictly working. I do not have any feeling for him at all. I don’t want anyone but you. I just want you.” You spoke making sure that she knew you meant every word you said.
She peered up at you, your hand in hers as she played with your fingers “really?”
You told her “of course.”
Pulling her into your side you kissed the top of her head. She settled in your arms, her head resting on your chest.
Nudging her with your shoulder, you said “I love you Joo...so much.”
You could feel her smile against your chest, hiding her blushing face.
She responded “I- um...I mean...uh”
You cut her off, carding your hand through her hair, “It’s okay, you don’t have to say it baby. I know.”
Instantly you felt her body relax against yours as she curled up closer to you. You smiled softly when she pushed her face further into your neck, as you wrapped your arms around her tighter.
Even if she couldn’t tell you herself exactly how she felt, you knew what she wanted to say. All you needed was for her to know how you felt.
