I'm done rereading pjo 2. I see a bunch of people say this is the worst of the og series but tbh it is pretty good. Better than I remembered if I'm being honest.

being unemployed but trying to get a job is like your life is in stand-by. cause if you're not interested in a job or are doing something else that occupies your days instead (like having classes) then it's okay. but if you're actively trying to become employed your whole life revolves around job applications, waiting for phonecalls, going to interviews and then waiting for the result.

maybe it's just me but i feel like i can't do anything else while this is going on. and by anything else i mean things like travelling (even for a few days) or making big plans for certain days (ironically cause i actually now have all the time in the world) because i don't know whether i'll be called for an interview tomorrow or in 2 weeks. and then, because i'm also applying for civil service positions, i also have exams and psych tests to do and i also can't guess when those will take place. so it's just this constant waiting for something.

i'm already a pretty indecisive person by nature (not to mention directionless and with zero drive to do anything) but in this situation i become even more so. it's like when you have an appointment at like 4 pm so you can't do anything major before that time. that's me right now but like for the past 2 and a half months

Correction Theory

i have met my quota of at least ~ 1 ~ interested party

so lets talk about the hair thing.

Correction Theory is the idea that showfall controls their cast not just in showy ways with flashing lights and wires but also in subtle ways that the actors (mostly ranboo) try to tell us about. when studying this theory and incorporating the hundreds of tiny potential cues I implore you to read this and then rewatch even the first 20 minutes of genloss TSE with this new perspective. Even if you don't believe me, its very interesting to notice. anyway I noticed this a bit ago but nearly every time that ranboo goes to do something that progresses the plot, it is followed or proceeded by him wiping his hair out of his eyes. ok? so what? its a tick it was a live show he was nervous? just stick wth me Showfall media's main goal is to have this show go smoothly, to keep the script breaks scripted and to keep the actors where they're supposed to be. due to the promotional material we know that the initial TSE live stream wasn't the first replay of the show so they've already gone through the process of things to adjust by the time were seeing it for the first time. Notably, headaches. the control items that showfall uses on the cast gives them headaches. ranboo shows us this a few times when he comments on his head hurting in TSE, as well as any time he wakes up in the show he tries to clutch his forehead. but he doesnt. its stopped halfway like he forgets that he has a headache and he instead runs his hand through his hair in replacement. now we have a base to work off. that when he touches his head its a potential headache indicator. a headache indicator that flares up specifically when showfall gives a command or correction to their protagonist. so

with this base in mind, as a sane and logical conclusion, i noted every time this happens to try and line it up with whats happening on screen. and 8/10 times it works. Corrections. small insignificant things that showfall wants to control so that the show goes smoothly but isn't worth drawing attention to it with blinking lights or plot. normally proceeded or followed by a headache indicator. - when chat chooses where ranboo should go - when ranboo looks into the camera and instantly looks away - if showfall feeds ranboo lines "I guess I better find these keys" - before or after every action during evil snag fight - when directed to/not to touch something (ep 2 detonator, ep 1 bolt cutters) these are only a few examples of when the action can align to certain commands and corrections relating to the show each correction is small enough that attention isn't drawn to it, but its also giving him a headache and its why we see him brush his hair out of his face instead of clutch his forehead. if ranboo were to act in distress or pain during the show when its uncalled for it takes away from the immersion or the script. pain isnt permitted. instead its redirected.

the theory sounds insane in shorthand but I do genuinely believe it, and you can immagine the written commands or corrections if you watch close enough. please ask me if you need clarification or more proof, I will happily provide. :) -Tophat

Like she needed reminding of why she never tired to move up. Of Why she tried to make herself seem stupid and weak...but every single time she went into battle-she was reminded.

"Maria's one of the best-i recommend-" but she wasn't listening anymore. This is why she and Alejandro never saw eye to eye-he tired to convince her to let him write to the General to move her up-she always said no. She didn't want to be seen-seeing as she was forced into this life. "Ay, Cállate, Alejandro! I'm not the best of the best and you know this," she said, cutting him off in the middle of this stupid meeting. Alejandro put one eyebrow up-so high it arched in the middle and made him look ever so dangerous. "Delscupme?"

She bit her lower lip and said, "Nada...Nada." "Yo creio que...y, Si has terminado, María..." Maria nodded, and tuned out his voice again. Rudy was going to use her as a toll during this mission and she already knew that-he always did. Rudy was nice, sure, but he had a levrage on Maria no one else did. Her past. She looked at Rudy-and he looked back, smiling. El Pendejo. She forced a smile back at him before looking down at her lap-"Maria! Are you even listening to me, amor?" "Si, si, claro que si." Alejandro hummed before saying, "What did I just say then?" "You said i was to work with Rudy-otra ves-and-" "No. I did not. I said you are to work with el nuevo teniente."

"There's a new one?" Maria asked, quirking a brow up, and crossing her arms over her chest-oh if only she knew the affect she had on him. Alejandro took a deep breath before saying, "Si, there's a new one. Ghost, they call him. You've never met him-but we're changing that...you'll also be working with another sergeant-Soap." Maria held back on hell of a barking laugh. "SOAP? ¿Jabón? they call him that? Why?" "no se, now. If your done talking back, we'll leave to meet your new partners." "Fine, fine..."

Alejandro picked up a file and said, "This is for the-" "I dont want to know, Alejandro. Nor do i want to, Pendejo." Alejandro sighed, "You still mad at me for that?" "Yes i am." "I told you-you succeed that mission, you were moving up whether you liked it or not!" "Yo se! Pero-I told you why i don't want to!" "And I don't care! The forms are sent-long over due-and el general-" "I don't care! No me importa!"

And they walked off in silence. Maria's anger known to all those who saw her-Alejandro's too. "Why are you like this, chica?" "Be-" "Don't give me no sassy response, quagliò." "...im going to kill you, Vargas." "Try it, muchacha. I dare you." "...Vete a la mierda, Alejandro."

"Ghost...is the one with the skull mask, si? ...How do we know he ain't part of el sin nombre's ranks?" Maria asked, eyeing the new Lt. Alejandro sighed. "Laswell recommended him. Same with Price." Maria was still skeptical but she nodded. "Okay..." "Just-go meet him, huh?" "Fine." She walked over to him and said, "Ghost, i take it?" the tall man nodded. "You must be Pistola." "that I am."

"Why do they call you that, eh?" ghost asked, Maria smiled, "Should I show you, Pendejo?" "Ay! That's enough, Mari-Pistola." Maria glared at Rudy and he fixed her name halfway through. "Mari, her name's Mari?" the other one asked, the one with a mohawk. She shook her head. "Dumb nickname they call me," she lied smoothly. "Short for my real name-which you idiotos will not be receiving whatsoever-so don't ask." Alejandro frowned at Maria before raising his eyebrows.

'Play nice.' That's what the look meant. She frowned back before sighing. If that CIA lady said that they could trust these two...No. Should she trust again it would be the end of her world. No, she won't play nice. She'll play cold. She'll play harsh. And she'll play Dirty. She nodded at Alejandro, who was now walking over before looking at the one with a mohawk. "You-Mohawk. You a punk rocker or somethin'?" And he blinked. "Scottish. That's wha' aye am." She hummed. "Scotland, huh? What part?" "That's private." "My bad-just tryna...i dunno, be nice or whatever," she said, shrugging. Soap nodded, "I get it, i doo, just doon't ask my home yeah?" "Yeah-sure."

hi there, let me walk you throught the last few days of my life

saw a list of history recommendations here on tumblr last Friday, saw the series if I had words there and thought "well let's give it a shot!"

started reading Friday night, got obsessed with it, couldn't stop, finished max's part Sunday, a little after the race.

got sad it ended and then VERY happy when I remember about the other part!!

started reading Sunday afternoon, got obsessed with it, couldn't stop, finished charles' part five minutes ago

the construction, the order of the events, seeing everything fall into place after reading both parts, max learning to grow older and softer, charles understanding his feelings and letting himself have nice things, their mom's, the packs, the I love yous, oh my GOD 😭😭

broke my heart when I reached the end because I could keep read more and more and more of those two maybe forever??

definitely interest in a sequel or spin off or any little crumb showing just a peek of them again

this fic is truly my child, i put so much time and attention into it and i love the way it turned out so much <33 ive never allowed myself to just take my time on something and keep scrapping it over and over until it was exactly how i wanted it, but i'm so glad i did! it makes me really happy that other people appreciate the care that went into it and appreciate the way everything falls into place. i promise it was HEADACHE inducing at times to write two different stories about the same event but it was also really really fun

Max wakes him up with a kiss at the base of his neck, and then one on his mouth that lingers sweetly. His hands are hesitant on Charles’ waist, his touch light and skittish, which Charles always hates. Charles tells him so, and Max lets out a husky laugh.

“You want more?” he asks, his tone still hesitant even when his eyes are dancing. It makes Charles roll his own eyes, and then roll him; pin him down into the mattress by his wrists and bite at his jaw.

“I want you to touch me like you mean it,” he mutters into his skin.

Max���s wrists flex beneath his grip, muscles coiled and ready to fight. His mouth is curved when Charles kisses it, but he bites Charles’ lip anyway.

“Mean what?” Max whispers against his mouth when they part.

That I’m yours, Charles thinks, but he doesn’t say it. He can’t say it. He can’t really admit to something like that, yet; can’t allow himself to, even if he already knows it’s halfway true. He wants to mean it when he says it, and Max—Max hasn’t chosen him yet.

“That you want me,” Charles says instead. He brushes his nose against Max’s jawline; against his pulse point; follows the line of his throat down to the spot where his mark would go and lets his breath dance over it. Max’s chest goes stone still beneath his own.

Charles ducks forward and brushes a chaste kiss there, as softly as he can. Max shivers beneath him, his eyelids fluttering shut. His tendons shift under Charles’ palms as his hands clench into loose fists.

“Do you—”

In a blink they’re rolling over, Max pressing him down, one hand at the small of his back and the other beneath his knee. Max kisses him hard.

“Like I couldn’t,” Max hisses against his mouth when they part. “What kind of question is that?”

Charles just quirks an eyebrow. “Show me,” he says simply.

For a while, he’s able to forget about it all.

Of course it only lasts as long for it takes the two of them to shower, get dressed and part ways; as soon as he arrives in the paddock he’s swarmed. It’s not the fans—they’re not allowed back here today—or even that people are yelling questions. People know not to try; not when paddock passes can get revoked and fines can be given.

They don’t do anything so stupid, but it doesn’t matter. The scrutiny is just as bad; two dozen cameras following his every move as if waiting for him to do something.

He breathes a sigh of relief as he ducks into the Ferrari hospitality. Andrea slips in after him, and he’s kind enough not to say anything about the way Charles is morosely stuffing biscuits from the coffee bar into his mouth.

“I called your pack off,” he tells Charles, making himself an espresso. He almost manages to look disinterested while he does it.

Charles just raises his eyebrows. “Did you?”

“Well, Pierre did. They didn’t really listen to me.” He dumps two sugars into his coffee, stirring a little aggressively, and then rolls his eyes at the look Charles is giving him. “Oh, leave me alone. It’s been a stressful morning. How are you doing?”

Charles shrugs. “We knew this was going to happen,” he points out.

“Yeah, I know. That wasn’t really my question.”

“I’m,” Charles starts, then looks down at his biscuit; the crescent bite taken out of it. “It’s fine. I don’t think it has fully hit me yet.”

Andrea purses his lips. He nods. “Fred said they’re not allowed to ask any questions about it in the presser. You’re with Pierre, Alex, Oscar and George, so even if someone tries something, you won’t be alone. It was the best we could do.”

“Max?” Charles asks, in spite of himself.

Andrea’s lips somehow purse even harder. “The FIA was strongly advised to give him a week off.”

“But not me.”

“You wouldn’t want a week off.”

Charles hums. That’s true.

“Besides,” Andrea adds in an undertone, “I know you will want to set an example that this is not to be discussed in the paddock. It’s not Fred’s decision, obviously, but…”

“But you don’t trust Max to be able to do the same,” Charles finishes for him.

“I trust him,” Andrea argues. “I trust him to say what we’re all thinking, which is that this is stupid and everyone should fuck off. I just also know that will only make things worse.”

Charles tilts his head, conceding the point. He breaks a crumb off his biscuit; pushes it past his lips.

“Is he alright?” Andrea asks after a beat, his voice quiet. “After last night?”

Andrea had been the one to check on them when they hadn’t reemerged from the bedroom suite, only to find them curled up on the bed, Max having finally passed out. Charles had kissed his forehead before slipping out to join the media strategy session; had pulled the duvet over him as he went. He’d called room service after everyone had finally left, coaxing Max into eating comfort food in bed with him, some meaningless travel show playing in the background, giving Max’s red-rimmed eyes somewhere to drift when they refused to meet Charles’ own.

“He’s fine,” Charles mutters, then scrubs at his hair. “Or he will be fine. I don’t know. He has this stupid idea that he has to be the strong one all the time. He doesn’t feel like he should need me when I am the one who everyone is talking about, and when he thinks it is all his fault.”

“Why does he think that?” Andrea asks.

“Because Jos was the only one who could have told them. Nobody else knew. And Max was the one who told Jos.”

Andrea chews that over, sipping his coffee.

“I don’t know why it matters,” Charles adds. “It is out now. It doesn’t matter how it got out.”

“You could always sue Jos,” Andrea muses. “Defamation or whatever.”

“It’s not worth it.”

“Isn’t it?”

Charles shrugs. Maybe it would give him some sense of satisfaction; probably not. “It would just give the media more to talk about,” he says. “It would make Max feel worse. I would gain nothing. It was going to come out eventually anyway,” he adds. “It was always a matter of time, wasn’t it?”

Andrea grimaces. “It’s hard to say,” he admits, “but these things tend to not stay secrets for long.”

I love that Jay just randomly walks in a random room and decides that this room - Hetty’s room - is going to be a man cave.

Also, I love the way she protects herself with her hands in this gif.  

Aw, Hetty.  She’s SO CONFUSED - Which I think is hilarious.   Apparently, the guys have never talked about man caves.

She’s talking to Jay as if expecting answers and he’s just like “Too busy making a hole”.  LOL (And you know, can't actually hear her).

OMG this is so funny - She’s like WTH are you doing and Jay’s just like “Made a hole - best leave.”

What was he even trying to do here?  I need to know - because it makes NO sense.  OH JAY. Also where did he go since he comes back a moment later and makes it bigger?

Aw, Flower is SO FREAKING CUTE.  She’s like “Oh, we can be roommates” and she’s so adorably excited ignoring Hetty’s dismay at the situation.  

This is hilarious considering what happens later.

Poor Flower, she’s so excited.  I feel bad for her because it’s clear that Hetty’s not into it.  I do wonder how they ended up with rooms next to each other since the order of their choices would’ve been Thor -> Sass -> Isaac -> Hetty -> Alberta -> Flower -> Pete -> Trevor.  (Per Jay’s Sister statement).  ALTHOUGH - I wonder if Hetty just got to keep her room so she really got to choose first.

House of Flame and Shadow SPOILERS

SPOILERS for the entire book, including the bonus chapters. Oh, and also for all of ACOTAR, just to be safe.

[Bryce x Prythian/ACOTAR]

In Part 1, I was a little underwhelmed about the 'ACOTAR crossover'. First of all the whole time I was thinking: you're on the same side, you're all good guys, you should be friends!! Go eat dinner together! But of course I do understand why they would all be wary of each other...

I guess I was hoping to see more character interactions, and to check in on the couples/families. We didn't get to see Feyre and Nyx, and Rhys and Cassian were barely there. (Although I did appreciate Az mentioning all of them to Nesta when she had the Mask, that was sweet.) Anyway, I did enjoy what we got, but I wish there was more and I'm definitely glad that we returned to them at the end of the book and in the Ember/Randall bonus chapter.

The whole time Bryce was in Prythian it just seemed like a super long history lesson/Bryce shennanagins with a reappearrance from the wyrm which I did not need haha. And it felt like that part of the book dragged on for more than it needed to, the whole time I felt like I was waiting for everyone to be reunited already so that the main plot could actually begin...And then, once Bryce is home, the dungeon rescue STILL hasn't happened, and we have to wait until halfway through the book for the big reunion.

[Meanwhile, back on Midgard]

Oh boy, things were getting super graphic and gory for both of the storylines (Ithan/Tharion and Hunt/Rhun/Baxian). The torture was...a lot, some parts I had to skim through super fast. I think it was made a little better by the fact that the torture was just so extreme and not something an actual human could live through, due to their healing powers. (How sad was Hunt, thinking about the babies he would never get to have? And sweet Rhun, thinking he would be sacrificing himself to save Bryce and the others...💔💔💔)

I thought the rescue was awesome! I especially liked the parts that were from Rhun's POV where he's like totally out of it, I think it was a great way of showing how he was feeling with everything.

And when Bryce is finally reunited with everyone, announcing herself as QUEEN, I thought that was a great typical Bryce dramatic entrance. And after this, the pacing of the book was a little better. Or at least, I didn't feel as rushed to get through it as when they were all apart. The one thing I missed is that there wasn't so much down time and chances for the characters to just talk (or do more than talk...), it was go go go for like one week straight.

[Tharion and Ithan etc]

I think these are everyone's least favorite POVs - I seriously hope they are not main characters in House of Many Waters but they probably will be because who else?

Tharion - I have to admit it was good to have him around, he did save Lidia (and Sathia) in the end. But his storyline just seemed a little over all over the place, jumping from River Queen to River Queen, with neither of them really being threats in the end...also he randomly marries Sathia but then she leaves him, not sure what the point was.

Ithan I like a little better, but wth happened with Sigrid? If he hadn't had the thought that she could be his mate at the end of HoSaB I wouldn't have been as surprised; I didn't care so much but just thought it was odd (and of course I felt bad for Ithan mostly). Was glad to see him work with Jesiba and Hypaxia and become Prime, and also the emotional scene with Connor of course.

And just so many side things that didn't seem so important like what was the point of the dragon?

[The end + bonus chapters]

I went into this book expecting someone (Bryce, Hunt, Rhun and/or Lidia) to die. I'm not sure why, because in ACOTAR that never happened. I think it was mostly theories I was reading/hearing, plus the fact that there is such an emphasis on the afterlife in this book. Bryce and Hunt ending up in the afterlife together was a situation I was prepared to accept.

I think it did make the end of the book more impactful for me because I seriously thought that Lidia was going to die - twice - as well as Bryce and was actually preparing myself for it. So when they didn't I was EXTREMELY happy and relieved - while also recognizing that maybe it would have made sense, especially with all the foreshadowing each of those characters had, numerous times, if one of them would have died (and it would have been super noble and heroic). But I am super happy they didn't. If I would have known this ahead of time, I probably would not have devoured this book in just 2 days haha.

That said, the Bryce death scene was kind repetitive to Feyre and Rhys'. (Also did the Jesiba x Bryce scene remind anyone else of Dumbledore and Harry?) Another thing: the whole Rhun handing the throne over to Bryce and giving her the sword and thus fulfilling the prophesy - did I miss something or did this not already happen in HoSaB?? They should have left it out of the previous book to make it more impactful here IMO.

The epilogue bonus chapters were so cute and fun and I loved that both couples got happy endings. And ending with JJ/pegasi was just...classic, I loved it, bringing everything full circle.

Speaking of the couples:

[Bryce x Hunt]

I love these 2 together, I don't know why so many people didn't think they were endgame when they're so totally head over heels for each other. I enjoyed their relationship in HoEaB the most, I feel like Hunt was sidelined a lot in HoSaB. I'm glad there was more teamwork and less secrets in HoSaF. I didn't feel like there was that much development for them as a couple in this book, but we did get some cute moments. Anyway they deserve each other and they deserve to be happy so I'm happy for them! :)

However: their sex scenes were...kinda odd. Like, I know, other-worldly stuff happens when mates have sex in these universes, but these seemed the most out-there, with the whole transfer of power and becoming Made? Ok then! (And the first scene was super short and rushed. )

[Rhun x Lidia]

These two!! When I found out who Day was, I was reacted to it just the same way Rhun did. But I came around to the idea (I think their sex scene was the best once in HoSaB by far) and going into this book I was the most excited for this couple. I do wish we had gotten a little more of them, which ties into my general comment about everything being so fast in this book and having so many side characters and povs but overall I liked what we got.

I do wish there had been a little more interaction in the dungeons, they also didn't make it so clear if Lidia was ever the one doing the torturing or if she was able to avoid this and if so, how? And of course because Rhun was blocking her out they couldn't really communicate... I was so glad she didn't die the first time because there was so much left unresolved. Her having children was a surprise but I think it explained why she did what she did and showed how pure her intentions were.

Post rescue, I didn't completely understand the way she was acting around Rhun, like she was mad at him for being mad at her (even though I think she could have understood he needed time to process?) and then thinking he was only interested in her because she had kids? idk. But I loved them getting closer together while in Avallen, and them just holding each other that first time. Then that scene in the barn LOL. And I'm glad we got to see them finally be together the night before the final battle.

And then for the second time I was really glad she didn't die because she was back to hating him lol. Again, I was sure she was not going to make it but I am really really happy that she did (and I'm glad she got to be the one to end Pollux), and I LOVED their bonus chapter as well. I also loved Bryce and Lidia's friendship and how they are all neighbors now!

I realize I shared a lot of criticisms but overall I did really enjoy this book and the HEA is a major bonus so I rated it 4 stars!

SAR HI! so i finally managed to finish mexican gothic and dang that was one hella weird book 😭 like ???

im gonna rate this 2.5/3 out of 5 because it just wasn't my cup of tea. it was really slow and like took ages to get the the point and actual plot. i felt they were repeating alot and it just got dragged alot which i hate, i dislike slow paced stuff ugh. and it doesn't pick up until the middle which is kinda annoying bc i was just reading and reading having no idea what's going on or what's supposed to be happening lol. i didnt like most of the characters either and i just skim read the half the book i could not take it anymore 😭 but like when everything was finally revealed like wth it was weird and idk what i expected honestly 😭😭 but yeah i didn't enjoy mexcian gothic so much.

BUT that’s so disappointing 🙁 i hate that sm, im sorry u didn’t like it!! i hate the slow books :/ (unless it’s slowburn romance 🤭) thats kinda how i felt with this book i read called milk fed?? it was just droning on and on and i just wanted it to end,,, and i was so excited to read it bc the topics in the book seemed like important ones to explore but the main character was annoying, the plot build up was annoying, the entire thing was just… so bad.

KP watches Snow Day 2022

so...Nick apparently remade Snow Day. how’s it stack up to the original (which is a favorite watch of mine btw)?

first of all, the sister is our narrator, not the brother. we start off with “one year ago...” and the snow day is immediate; we got no character setup for Hal or his friends and love interest, no family setup, nothing. and immediate musical number. this...this is gonna hurt isn’t it?

oh, the “one year ago” was pointless for just an opening song. Natalie (was that her name here? i kinda missed it) is way too over the top; she was believable originally, now she’s...idk, lame Disney Channel? the mom is too...but at least we get family setup now; not great setup, but it’s something. (is that the Fairly Odder mom?)

so...Claire is in a play and not a diver? Hal also seems to have lost his dude friend and only has Lane, who is also a bit too over the top but she’s at least got the same vibes. and Claire’s whale is now a necklace and from her dad instead of boyfriend. and yeah sis is still Nat, and still too sitcom adult in a kid’s body. and i know in the original, Hal and Nat had a good friendship, but why is Nat hanging around him and Lane at school?

we’re getting a Summer Nights type song number for Chuck and Claire? uh...can we say filler? too bad we cut out all the Chevy Chase dad opening setup, we really had no other way to fill the run time...

the Claire and Chuck break up is shown; ok i’ll give that’s a nice addition. however...Chuck was a cartoony jerk in the original, but he’s just...cartoonishly bland? the original would’ve known her dance thing was coming up. also pulling the “how well do you know me” quiz now?

oh we get a “woe is me” music number for Hal instead of him wearing Claire’s whale creepily. i guess that’s an improvement...also i will give that new Hal is a geeky looser looking kid vs original Hal who really wasn’t, so you get some point for that new movie. but no dad checking on Nat about the barometric pressure and the storm coming...idt dad is even the weatherman...idt we even know what he does...why do we even have mom dad and Randy?

we get no real setup for Snowplow man; it hasn’t been an established rivalry just a “hey i’m gonna stop him plowing so i don’t have to take a test”. it’s not something Nat and Hal have been planning for years, it’s a random spontaneous plan. and since we haven’t established Nat’s friends, she looks like she’s doing this on her own since we’ve only seen her hang with Hal and Lane who are going to go do the Claire plot. you really dropped the ball introducing your main antagonist, and featured character on all your promo covers here guys.

ok we now get to establish Eli and Wayne. Eli is not creative (and British?) and Wayne is not Josh Peck. they kept the tv in the snow fort so that surprised me. and now we get family stuff...and dad is working at home...this destroys the mom and Randy stuck at home subplot because the parents can now take shifts; also Randy is clearly older, so he doesn’t need as much of a babysitter you’d think. and he’s just as manipulative as Nat; what is with this family??

awww we cut out the snow angel scene with Hal and Lane, that’s a shame, since that’s a helpful message later on. we also cut out the Claire-stock setup...and Claire forgives Chuck far too easily...yeah this new version is just making it “nerd likes girl with boyfriend” not “looser likes the most popular girl that everyone wants” so...it’s creepy?

geeze we’re like halfway through the movie and at this point, i’m afraid this is so not  good that even Jerry Trainor can’t save it...it might even make him not funny the rewriting here is just that not good so far.

no jelly snownuts??? booooo. i get it, they don’t want imitate able behavior, but c’mon!

oh...oh Jerry...the Siri!Bird is already bad but...you’re singing a song that’s basically “I hate music” and...idk...Jerry i love you man, and you can kinda sing, so i’m gonna blame the writing...and Snowplow Man backstory in the song, wth?? he’s like the Grinch, we don’t need an origin story. also, his snowplow is named Trudy instead of Clementine; minor detail i guess. ok, waiting to throw snowballs at him until he’s stopped rather than causing him to crash into a car; again, don’t want to promote dangerous behavior. however popping his tires is bad...and the snowplow is the Gadgetmobile?? O.o i guess Siri!Bird makes more sense then for that...

oh, oh wow we replace the TV scene with Hal breaking into some tiktok girl’s house to make his Claire declaration. yeah, new Hal is creepy and dare i say simpy?

oh we are replacing Wayne being dead with ketchup, by dressing him up as a grannie and nearly getting hit by the snowplow. that’s still dangerous guys...

oh NOW we get the snow angel scene, ok, you get a point back movie...you’re still really bad though. because now we get Lane taking about ice skating? did she JUST fall in love with him? the musical number seems to imply that; original Lane seemed to be into him the whole time, just saying. it was nice and subtle...and this new one doesn’t know what the word “subtle’ means, so yeah there’s my answer i guess.

we cut back to the family...and a zillion pancakes...you know, in the original the mom and Randy subplot was about mom realizing how disconnected from her family she’d become getting wrapped up in her work. what is the point here? that the parents work too much? we haven’t established that.

Nat and Eli hack the bird to call Snowplowman...ok. it was creepier when he went to Nat’s house and they called him from across the street; but also showed that he knew who they were because they’re local and had a standing rivalry.

Claire’s friends have names?? weird. Chuck is an idiot.

so we replace Iggy Pop running music at the skating rink, Lane distracting him, and Hal taking over the music...with a random high schooler in a food truck, Lane taking it over and tricking Chuck into getting Claire a burger with pickles. what a downgrade. also this whopping crane story sounds like the baby chick story...but instead of it hyping Hal to Claire, it’s a pep talk to Hal; also kind of a downgrade.

why are we back to the parents? “oh i’ve missed you” WHY? you two had 2 seconds of screen time pre-snow day, we established nothing about you two over working or whatever. were you on the brink of a divorce maybe? and now we get the Randy snowball fight? kinda early for that.

the Wayne/Trudy exchange is in the middle of town now? i get eth comedic western showdown, but it out in the middle of nowhere was the dangerous part of it. it made double crossing easier. why are none of the business owners concerned about this display in front of their stores? but ok, using the exchange as an opportunity to sabotage the plow, sure that’s not that bad of an addition, but the rest wasn’t good. he’s also kidnapping all the kids?? O.o oh no Wayne cut the brakes, that’s not good.

so Hal drew Claire to the football field for a speech and the shoveled out whale. how did he invite her if Lane didn’t bring her? also no “But I like Zebras” line! boooooo. also no payoff for the snow angel scene either. Chuck shows up the same, and pulls receipts for Hal being a wiener. yeah, sure, super lame. and Claire tells Hal to meet her elsewhere later instead of him knowing she’d be diving, yeah sure.

back to Speed snowplow edition. there is no original scene to compare this to...unless you count them nearly hitting Chuck as an equivalent to when they took over the truck at the end and plowed him. but i don’t. he truck crashes in a sink hole, so i guess no kids driving the truck to unplow after dark...also no mob justice.

but wow is Lane’s confession lame. she over explains, she’s less annoyed with Hal, it’s just...way less impactful. also no snowmobile chase, but that was expected. the Claire kiss is also less impactful. also don’t buy Claire knowing who Lane is, they had zero interactions. the whole sequence of events were just...no.

and now it’s still daylight at the skating rink, and a couples’ skate. no, this is just, no. original had the deposing of Snowplowman, the reconciliation of Hal and Nat, and Hal finding Lane alone at the rink showing how well he knew her and that neither would  be alone again. this...was just setup for another upbeat musical number. and since this is the ending, i guess that WAS the plow scene for Chuck earlier. very lame. 

“the best is yet to come” huh? you gonna play the original next to apologize for this bland not good movie?

no final narration to sum things up. the plot threads still feel unfinished. this is just all...no.

now before starting this, i’d made guesses at what subplots would get cut. i rightfully guessed the principal one, and that’s fine, HOWEVER, they kinda set up an equivalent with the teacher Nat couldn’t blackmail at the start you know. it’s not just me that saw that right?

overall, this movie is a very poor imitation of the original. it’s not rage inducingly bad, but it’s very bland. they did not use Jerry Trainor to his best, and honestly that would’ve been the only thing to save this. Nick, you gotta stop these live action remakes of things, you’re not doing a good job at them.

i recommend watching the original over this. it’s better paced, better acted, and filled with early 2000s cheese. but it’s fun, and has a complete and engaging story. this one was written based on the original’s synopsis with musical numbers half heartedly thrown in.
