Indie 5-0 with Best Not Broken
Best Not Broken is not to be slept on. This Boston band brings back all the nostalgic feelings we thrive on, both lyrically and sonically.
Their newest song, "I Don't Belong," is a pop rock tribute to those who didn't quite fit in in high school and dreamed of being a rock star. While the song oozes of the 80's and 90's replete with references to Walkmans, 90210, sideburns and mullets, and pegged jeans, the music video brings all that to life with bright colors, big hair, and teen angst.
The band, and their music, bring a fun and playful energy to the industry that everyone needs. We got a chance to speak with the band about their music and their career, so without further ado, let's dive in:
What was the inspiration behind your new song "I Don't Belong"?
This song started years ago with a little vocal melody that wound up being the verse. The only problem was we never had any lyrics for it that seemed to stick. Somewhere along the way, we committed to finishing it and some other pieces started coming together. The second piece was the “can I get a“ pre-chorus that struck me as memorable and tempting in that there are so many things that one might scream that refrain about. It started with jokes about fast food in the studio (“can I get a…cheeseburger!”, etc.) but when the chorus (“ I don’t belong“) started to shape up, the pre-chorus took a new meaning. We were then on the hunt for a concept that fit those pieces. Knowing the melody and pre-chorus had a lighthearted vibe, I set off in search of something with a little humor but an authentic backstory to it. Then one night, while lying awake in bed, for some reason I started thinking about some of my ridiculous high school experiences, and all of a sudden the ideas started to flow. It wasn’t long before the story of a high school wanna-be-rockstar had kind of written itself. It’s really a celebration of all the things we look back on from high school and say “OMG, I can’t believe I did that!“ and how at some point, we all didn’t quite fit in somewhere. And ultimately how we start out with grandiose plans that may or may not pan out, but those of us that are fortunate enough, end up with a life that’s pretty darn good even though we may not have hit our target!
Your video is fun and cleverly ties your lyrics and music together. What was the best part of putting the video together?
By far, the best part of putting the video together was reddiscovering some of the outfits and other time pieces (Rubik‘s cube, boombox, walkman, etc.) from the 90s and even the 80s to make this video feel like it was set back then. Not sure if we hit the mark, but it was certainly fun trying! The second thing was watching Carlo (our drummer) ride a miniature bike around the school. He definitely would’ve spent much time in the principals office!
You've performed with and opened for many iconic musicians over your career thus far. Is there a show that stands out the most? Why?
We’ve been very fortunate in that our music seems to have enough commonality with an array of popular artists that we’ve picked up some pretty cool gigs with musicians we all know in love. Those experiences are all special in their own way, but the one that probably stands out the most is the very first time we were asked to share the stage with a national headliner in front of thousands of people.. It was Pat Benatar. At first we said “that doesn’t really seem like our audience.. we may not be a good fit.” And then we said, “what the heck are we thinking, there will be thousands of people… we gotta give it a shot!” At that point we were mostly used to playing in the garage and after a quick sound check, and looking at thousands of seats in the theater, and people starting to filter in, I just remember walking out to my car 10 minutes before we were supposed to go on thinking “oh my God, how am I going to do this!” Major mental peptalk! But we got through it and they even had us back for another show!
If you could perform with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
The Beatles. For every reason you can imagine, and also because ultimately their songwriting and personality has many fingers in what Best Not Broken is today.
What has been the most rewarding aspect about performing and connecting with your audiences?
Ultimately it is just that. Connecting with people. It’s like having hundreds of great conversations all the same time. With a beat! When everybody is feeling the same energy, living the same lyrics, dancing and smiling together, it’s really a gift that we feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in.

Goin' out tonight, changes into something red
His mouth dropped at the sight of you, a gentle smile on your lips as you walked into the room. You were dressed in a black cloak, a dark green scarf wrapped around your neck like a snake. The kids’ attention instantly gravitated towards you, a whole bunch of them swarming towards you, a walking clump of excited chatters and ‘Merry Christmas, L/N-sensei!’.
Her mother doesn't like that kind of dress
“Hello everyone,” You replied with a laugh, tugging off your cloak and your scarf as you walked into the classroom of the pre-school where both you and Sugawara Koushi worked as teachers at. “Merry Christmas!”
A blush crept up his cheeks when you undressed, proudly showing off a bright red sweater with what seemed to be Rudolph on it. The pre-school had organised a secret gift event, where everyone would buy a gift, wrap it, and leave it under the tree. Later on, everyone would get a chance to pick out one gift for themselves, and since the teachers were required to participate, Sugawara had picked out a sweater, wrapped it in a cute box, and left it under the tree in the teachers’ staffroom. He had never anticipated the fact that you would choose his gift, giving your reason for the choice as ‘It looks really nicely wrapped, whoever bought this must’ve put a lot of effort into it!’.
Everything she never had she's showin' off
“L/N-sensei, your sweater’s really cute!” One of your kids said with a beam.
“Thank you!” A soft smile graced your lips as you glanced down at the sweater with a fond expression. “It’s from my secret santa!”
The kids continued to chatter excitedly around you as you set down your cloak and your bag in Sugawara’s classroom, where both of your classes were having a joint Christmas party.
“Merry Christmas, Suga-san.” You greeted with a smile, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. “Your sweater’s really cute.”
He glanced down in surprise, remembering with sudden shock that the sweater he was wearing came as a set with the one that he had wrapped. His was dark green, and also had Rudolph on it- Except Rudolph was standing in a different pose, of course.
“Ah.” He coughed awkwardly. “Thank you. I like yours, too.” He knew without a doubt by the glint in your eyes, you were aware that the sweater you were wearing was from him.
“Thanks! I really need to thank the person who got me this sweater.” At this point you were just teasing him, and boy was it working. Red flushed across Koushi’s cheeks, and it wasn’t because it was snowing outside.
“Suga-sensei, you’re blushing!” One of the girls pointed out with a giggle. This caused a chain reaction throughout the classroom, the forty-or-so kids you had packed in Suga’s classroom rushing to the front, where he was sitting cross-legged on the carpet while wrapping some last-minute gifts.
“Suga-sensei’s blushing!” Came the chorus of the kids’ exclamations. The red on his cheeks only darkened as he tried to laugh it off, but unfortunately for him, the red around his cheek, neck, and ears did not recede.
You laughed softly. “Alright, alright. That’s enough. Who’s excited for the gift exchange?”
The kids raised their hands and jumped around enthusiastically, some bragging loudly that they got amazing gifts for their classmates. Sugawara breathed a sigh of relief, glad that you had redirected the kids attention.
“We still have a few students who aren’t here yet, so why don’t everyone leave their gifts under the tree first and we can play some small games while waiting for the rest of your friends, okay?” You suggested with a smile, the kids instantly rushing to grab their gifts from their bags to stash under the tree that both your classes had decorated together.
“Thanks.” He smiled thankfully at you, praying that his blush had lightened up.
Your eyes twinkled in amusement. “No problem.”
»»——⍟——««
“Suga-sensei!” One of the girls approached him, pushing past his arms to settle into his lap. He chuckled, patting her hair as he gave her a questioning look. “I have a question!”
“Well, go ahead.” He smiled.
“Are you and L/N-sensei dating?” The kid whispered, looking up at him with saucer-sized, curious eyes.
Sugawara coughed loudly, trying not to choke on his own embarrassment. “No! I mean... No. No we’re not.”
“But she’s so pretty!” The girl scrunched up her eyebrows, not understanding why her teacher wouldn’t want to date the pretty teacher from the neighbouring class. “And she’s really nice!”
“Well, yes, but...” He struggled with his words, trying to remember that you were across the room and that he couldn’t let the conversation get out of hand or he was done for.
Little did he know, across the room, seated with your own kids, you were being confronted with the same question. “L/N-sensei, are you dating Suga-sensei?” One of your boys, who was cuddled up against your side while he munched on a piece of cake asked you, the rest of the kids tuning in to listen in interest.
“No, but what made you think that?” A light blush painted your cheeks but you kept your cool, entertaining your kids with the conversation.
One of the kids who were seated in a semi circle around you piped up. “Because he’s really nice to you!”
“Because mommy said you two look nice together!”
“Because his sweater looks a little like yours!”
You smiled, your eyes flicking up to spot a flushed Sugawara across the classroom. “Well, we’re not dating. If we are I’ll let you guys know, okay?”
It wasn’t just the kids, though.
“How was the Christmas party?” One of Suga’s kid’s mother asked as she engulfed her child in a hug. The boy broke into a grin and begin ranting about the cake and the gift that he had picked out from under the tree. “That sounds great!”
“I met new friends from L/N-sensei’s class!” The boy continued to say excitedly.
“Ah, L/N-sensei?” The middle-aged woman glanced across the entrance of the pre-school, spotting you, also talking to one of your kids’ mother. “Wow, she’s really pretty!” (Suga had to stop himself from nodding vigorously in agreement.)
The boy agreed without holding back. “Yeah! Suga-sensei blushed when he talked to her!” The grey-haired teacher spluttered, not expecting his own student to betray him.
“Is that so?” The mother instantly piped up, wiggling her eyebrows at Suga, whose face flushed again. “Suga-san, I think the both of you would look great together! Is she single?”
“I-” He fumbled around with his words. “I think?”
The mother shot him a smirk, walking away with her excited child as Sugawara blushed, drowning further in his growing affection for you. There you were, across the entrance, waving goodbye to one of your kids. “See you after Christmas break!” You smiled so brightly he was sure you could outshine Hinata, the literal sunshine child.
The both of you sighed in relief as the last kid was picked up by his mother. At that rate, the both of you were ready to collapse from exhaustion- Dealing with kids during Christmas eve was one of the most draining things you had ever done, and the two of you were incredibly grateful that you had combined the class celebration- Because it meant only one classroom to clean up.
“I’m exhausted already, and there’s still the staff celebration tonight.” You complained with a tired whine as you picked up all the trash left behind.
He shot you a knowing smile, feeling his mental fatigue start to settle in. God, he loved kids, but they could be a handful at times.
“L/N!” One of your female coworkers burst into Suga’s classroom, startling the two of you. Her expression turned sheepish as she apologised quickly. “I’m really sorry but- I can’t send you to the staff party tonight!”
Your face dropped as you groaned. You couldn’t drive, and the party location was a reasonable distance from the nearest train station, and you didn’t feel like walking...
“My mom suddenly told me she wanted me home for Christmas eve, so...” She winced. “I’m really sorry. Maybe you could get another teacher to send you?”
“I could.”
The both of you turned to look at Suga, who had paused halfway through sweeping the floor. “I’m going to the party. I could drive you.”
“Perfect!” Your coworker clapped her hands a little too enthusiastically. Your eyes narrowed at her suspiciously as she very conveniently ignored your questioning gaze. “You can go with Suga-san, then. Sorry and thanks again!”
»»——⍟——««
Drivin' too fast, moon is breakin' through her hair
“Wow.” Sugawara couldn’t help the way his jaw unhinged at the sight of you, clad in a tight-fitting red dress that hugged your curves in a way that left little to his imagination. “I mean. Um. You look great.” He offered, trying to fix his composure, heat bursting in blossoms across his neck, cheeks, and ears.
“Thank you, you don’t look too bad yourself.” You replied gracefully, your heels clicking as you walked down the steps of your apartment.
Sugawara had cleaned up from his sweater-dressed pre-school teacher look into a well-groomed man with soft grey locks, a dark-green dress-shirt with a Christmas tree patterning and black jeans. “T- Thanks.” He stuttered, rushing over to hold the door open for you, quite like the gentleman he had a reputation of being.
She's headin' for somethin' that she won't forget
The ride started off a little tense until you started humming along to the song on the radio, enticing him into joining you. He could barely keep his eyes on the road- How could he, when he had an angel like you in his passenger seat, eyes blinking under the stars and your heavenly voice tickling his ears?
Havin' no regrets is all that she really wants
“Suga! Oh, hi L/N-san.” A male teacher greeted the two of you with wiggling eyebrows that instantly made the two of you look away from each other. “Well, get yourself some drinks, we’ve got quite the night ahead of us!”
We're only gettin' older, baby
“Come on, the two of you have been sitting here for the whole night! Get on the dance floor!”
The two of you were seated by the bar, nursing your respective drinks (Suga had a glass of carbonated water- He wasn’t allowed to get drunk and he’d be darned if he forgot his responsibility of driving you home) while sharing small-talk, primarily about your classes and what you do outside of work. Koushi enjoyed your presence; Conversation just seemed to flow when he was with you, and awkwardness a foreign concept that he had forgotten. The twinkle of your laugh was imprinted in his mind, your eyes curved into crescents and a giggle vibrating down your throat.
“I don’t... Know how to dance.” You admitted shyly.
Your coworker rolled her eyes. “Just get out there!”
“I’ll go with.” Koushi laughed, setting his drink down. His hand found yours, in the maze of coloured strobe lights and the next thing you knew you were laughing, smiling, giggling as he brought you the centre of the dance floor, like he wanted to show off to the world just how special you were.
You flushed in embarrassment, feeling multiple sets of eyes on you- Your coworkers’. “What do I do?” The whisper was shot to the grey-haired man, who was already moving to the music like he was born to dance.
“Just listen to the music and focus on the beat.” He laughed, taking both of your hands into his, jerking you onto the beat and directing your movements until you got a hang of it. “There you go!”
And I've been thinkin' about it lately
Everyone in the room must’ve been able to see how in love with you he was, Suga mused with a tiny groan. There were literal hearts in his eyes when he looked at you, your red dress dancing in the air alongside you, a slightly-drunk smile on your lips. The pounding music faded away from him, the only sound he heard being your angelic laugh. At that point he was sure your laugh could cure the world’s deadliest diseases.
Does it ever drive you crazy
“I’ve never had that much fun.” Breathless, you smiled widely at him, both of you (Well, mostly you) stumbling back to the bar.
His eyes softened at the sight of your tousled hair, your gleaming eyes, the thin sheen of sweat on your skin. You looked like you hadn’t went to a club to dance in ten years- Which, judging from how stiff you were when you were first dragged onto the floor- Was probably true.
Just how fast the night changes?
“Hey... Can we get out of here?” You asked after a while, giving him a mini-heart-attack when you turned to look at him. “It’s getting too loud for me.”
“Sure,” He replied easily. Heck, you could ask him to get on a plane to anywhere on the planet and he’d probably still say sure. Koushi knew he had fallen for you, and when he fell, he fell hard.
Everything that you've ever dreamed of
The two of you grabbed a couple of rental bikes a little away from the club, scanning the barcodes with your phones before pedalling away. Your red dress fluttered in the wind from under your coat, your hair loosened and a couple strands waving at him with a laugh while they flew behind you.
Disappearing when you wake up
He wished he could continue pedalling behind you forever; God, what he would give to have Christmas eve last forever. Your laugh played on loop inside his mind, the ring of your giggle warming him, insuring his body against the cold winter.
But there's nothing to be afraid of
By the time morning came, would you remember? Would you remember the park that the two of you stopped at because you wanted to stargaze? Would you remember the love-struck way he stared at you while your eyes were fixated on the dots of white up in the sky, just out of your reach? Would you remember the way he took a breath of courage and intertwined your fingers together just as the clock struck 12?
Even when the night changes
“Merry Christmas, Suga-san!” You smiled, looking at the time on your watch.
It will never change me and you
“Merry Christmas, L/N-san.” He replied, an identical smile on his lips. You leaned closer, your lips connected with his as sparks exploded as loudly as the fireworks up above in his heart.
“W- Wait!” Koushi pushed you away, cheeks flushed and painted a visible scarlet despite the dim lightning of the park. “You- You’re drunk. I’m not going to take advantage of you like this, you’ll regret this when you wake up.”
A pout crossed your lips, but you figured he had a point. Even you knew that you were slightly drunk- It was the boldness of your actions, the way stars seemed to litter the air around your silver-haired coworker, the shine in his eyes that were a little brighter than usual.
“I won’t.” You pursed your lips. “I probably won’t dare to do it again if I’m fully sober.”
»»——⍟——««
“Suga-san?”
He swore he almost had a heart attack when he woke up at 8am and his phone was ringing, your caller ID staring him in the face, urging him to pick up. “Yeah? Do you need anything, L/N-san?”
“No, uh, can I- Can I come over?”
If he didn’t have a heart attack at seeing your caller ID, he had a heart attack at your request. “Uh- Sure? Why?”
“I... I’m not too sure either. I’ll explain when I get there.”
Christmas morning was a wonderland of white falling from the sky, your window sill covered with an inch-thick of cold, powdered sugar. There was a faint throb in your head- You had drunk a little bit more after returning to the party with Sugawara. Fumbling around, reaching for your phone, you turned it on, blinking in surprise as you stared at the three words etched on your lockscreen wallpaper.
‘Kiss’. ‘Sugawara’. ‘Koushi’.
“What did I do last night?” You mumbled, sitting up. Flashes of a park, a sparkling night sky, and a silver-haired coworker flipped through your mind like a flipbook with a dozen pages missing. At last, you figured you might as well call the man in question- Surely he knew what you did last night.
»»——⍟——««
“I... Woke up to this on my lockscreen.” You explained, showing him your phone. Red burst across Koushi’s cheeks like cherry blossoms, and for a moment you wondered if spring had come early. “I figured there was no harm if I came over.”
“So... Are you going to do it?” He eyed you, a mixture of shy and curiosity.
In one swift movement, you jerked the front of his shirt, pulling him to you for a kiss. When you pulled back, Sugawara Koushi was a stuttering, blushing mess who had apparently forgot how to use his words.
“No harm in trying.” You shrugged with a tint of a smile across your lips. “So... Did you forget how to use words or...?”
“Dammit, you can’t just do that to me like this!”

the new kid |
in which | jihoon learns to adore junhwan
characters | junhwan miller, lee jihoon, kye beomju, vernon chwe, yoon jeonghan
word count | 2.0k
circa | pre-debut (late 2012)
Jihoon quickly slings his bag onto his shoulders, calling a hasty goodbye to the other trainees in the dance practice room before he rushes off through the building. It’s not as if he’ll be punished or even reprimanded for being late, he just wants as much time as he can have in the studio with Bumzu; it’s a self accountability thing.
The boy stumbles into the studio with an apology already spilling out of his mouth, “I’m sorry I’m late, dance practice ran long and I just got out. I tried to get here as fast as possible.”
Bumzu turns in his chair from where he had been pointing at something on his computer screen. The older man smiles at Jihoon.
“It’s alright, I was just showing Junhwan how to copy paste on my producing software,” Bumzu says.
“Who?”
The chair beside Bumzu turns and a young boy Jihoon hadn’t even noticed is sat in the seat Jihoon usually occupies in Bumzu’s studio.
“Hello,” Junhwan says with careful pronunciation, “I’m Junhwan.”
Who is that? Is he a trainee? Jihoon hasn’t seen him around before. He has a really heavy American accent when speaking Korean, so he must be a foreigner. But why would he be in Bumzu’s studio? And why during the time he was supposed to be getting a lesson from the producer?
“Junhwan just moved here to train from America,” Bumzu explains, seeing the questions on Jihoon’s face. “Today is his third day training. He doesn’t speak much Korean, though, but I think he understood everything I taught him today.”
Does Bumzu just take in any trainee who’s interested in learning at producing now? This kid’s feet are dangling a foot off the floor, as if he could write an actual song.
Bumzu’s attention quickly leaves Jihoon as Junhwan starts to scoot off the chair. The man helps him get his feet on the floor.
“Thank you very much,” Junhwan says, bowing.
“You’re very welcome,” Bumzu says, “You’ll come back tomorrow at the same time, right? I can teach you more then.”
“Tomorrow... time?” Junhwan says back.
The longer Junhwan takes with his barely functioning Korean language skills, the less time Jihoon is going to have in his lesson today.
“Same time.”
“Same. So 5 o’clock?”
“Yes.”
“Okay. Thank you.”
Junhwan walks over to the door and picks his backpack up off the ground. He leaves without looking back, making sure to shut the door securely behind him. Bumzu chuckles fondly.
“He’s a cute kid; I bet people will love him when he debuts,” he muses.
“Yeah, well, I’ve been working on a new track and I wanted to show it to you,” Jihoon dismisses, pulling his laptop out of his backpack and walking over to Bumzu.
Technically, lunch isn’t over yet. However, since Jihoon ate quickly, he can leave twenty minutes early and work in the studio until his vocal lesson at one. He hopes to one day have his own studio, but for now he’ll have to settle for working in Bumzu’s. Not that Bumzu’s studio isn’t nice, he would just like to have his own space.
Jihoon opens the door to his older friend’s studio, expecting it to be empty. Instead, he finds a small, American boy he hasn’t been able to get away from ever since their first encounter last week. It seems everywhere Jihoon turns, Junhwan is there, too. Despite being so young and barely able to speak any Korean, he has impressive vocals and can almost always keep up in lessons and practices with the older trainees.
How he didn’t notice for the first three days Junhwan was in Korea, Jihoon doesn’t know, but the younger boy shares his dorm. He has every other trainee always cooing and fawning over him but he’s yet to do anything to truly prove himself worthy of the attention and praise. Sure, he’s a good singer for an eleven-year-old, but all the vocal trainees are good singers.
On top of that, he always seems to be in the studio at incredibly inconvenient times. Typically, Junhwan’s lessons run a little long since Bumzu is still accounting for the boy’s Korean struggles, which eats into Jihoon’s lesson time. Today, however, is a different encounter.
Bumzu is very particular about who can use his studio when he’s not there. Meaning he only allows Jihoon to work in it without him present, a fact Jihoon is very proud of. Obviously, Bumzu wouldn’t want this literal child playing around in his studio without him.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Jihoon calls sharply.
Junhwan is sat on his knees in one of the desk chairs, shoes off in front of him so as not to dirty the seat. He pushes on the desk to turn and look at who called out to him. His eyes brighten as he sees the older producer-in-training. Jihoon’s eyes stay narrowed at the boy.
“I’m doing... work,” Junhwan explains choppily.
“No,” Jihoon says, “You’re not allowed in here without Bumzu. You don’t mess with other people’s stuff without their permission.”
Junhwan doesn’t look like he understands what Jihoon said. The older boy rolls his eyes. Typical.
“Um, Bumzu hyung let me use the- no- his studio.”
“Yeah, but not when he’s not here. You should leave. Come on, get up.”
Junhwan’s protests fall on deaf ears as Jihoon demands he get out of the chair. The young boy doesn’t have the tenaciousness or the language ability to argue, so he deftly slides out of the seat. He doesn’t have the chance to put his shoes on before Jihoon is ushering him out of the studio, pushing his backpack into his arms before closing the studio door without so much as a goodbye.
Junhwan’s shoulders sag as he stares at the firmly shut door. He pulls his backpack onto his shoulders, slides his feet into his shoes, and walks down the hallway, mood dampened.
Jihoon sighs to himself in the quiet of the room. All of his roommates are fast asleep in their beds, but Jihoon just can’t seem to do the same. For whatever reason, his mind is keeping him awake.
Giving up, Jihoon pulls his blanket off and gets out of bed, headed to the kitchen for a glass of water or something. He stops as he reaches the slightly ajar door, hearing quiet voices from beyond it.
“I don’t think this was a good idea.”
“What?”
“Coming here. I should have just stayed in New York.”
“What are you talking about?”
Jihoon carefully pulls the door open a little further so he can peek out into the living room. Only the small lamp beside the couch is on, keeping Jihoon in darkness while he looks at where Vernon sits with Junhwan on the couch. Despite Jihoon’s disdain for the boy, he feels his heart squeeze as he notices Junhwan is wiping away tears.
“You’re already so talented; think at what you could do once you have proper training.”
“But I don’t have the personality for it.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m not loud. I’m not funny. I’m not outgoing. I’m awkward and shy and quite and that doesn’t work if I want to be a kpop idol.”
“You don’t have to be loud to be an idol,” Vernon says. “Not every member in a group has to be loud and outgoing. What do you think we keep Seungkwan around for?”
Junhwan laughs but it comes out as more of a disheartened giggle.
“I miss home.”
“I know, buddy.”
“I miss my mom.”
Junhwan starts crying again and Vernon is quick to wrap his arms around the younger American boy.
Jihoon has nowhere near the amount of English capabilities to understand everything that was said, but he knows what “not” and “miss” mean and the amount of times they were said. Given the boy’s age and his place of birth, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that he’s doubting himself and is homesick.
Sure, Jihoon knows what it’s like to move away from home. He moved from Busan to Seoul to train when he was fifteen. But Junhwan came from halfway across the world, barely speaks Korean, and is only eleven.
Guilt weighs heavily on Jihoon’s chest as he thinks back on how unfairly he’s treated Junhwan. Even if not directly, he’s resented the kid simply for chasing his dream and doing his best, just like the rest of them. Two weeks into training, and he is already considering giving up.
Jihoon can’t help but feel somewhat responsible for the stress sitting on his shoulders. As he retreats back into bed, he makes a resolution to be better and give Junhwan a chance.
Which was perhaps the best decision Jihoon had ever made.
Not literally, but only a month later and Jihoon can’t imagine how he so quickly judged such a kind boy with such a cute and shy personality. Kim Junhwan is perhaps one of the best people he has ever met.
If Jihoon had bothered to pay attention, he would have been able to see- and appreciate- much sooner how Junhwan’s face lights up anytime he is in the vicinity of the older boy, which is something he is infinitely more proud of than being one of the now two people Bumzu lets use his studio.
Junhwan had heard about Jihoon and how he was working to become a producer while training too, but Jihoon’s decided distaste for the boy deflected any of Junhwan’s attempts to speak with him. Now, Jihoon could revel in Junhwan’s fondness of him indefinitely (read: rub it in Jeonghan’s face that he’s Junhwan’s favorite).
Personality aside, Junhwan is unnecessarily talented in music writing and production for an eleven-year-old.
“Stop being so talented!” Jihoon exclaims, shaking Junhwan’s chair in faux anger.
Junhwan laughs as he’s jostled, Korean skills having come a long way in just a month and a half.
“My bad,” Junhwan apologizes with a laugh.
Jihoon sighs, “And you question why I call you a prodigy.”
“I’m not a prodigy.”
“This isn’t up for debate.”
“But I’m not-“
“Silence, boy.”
Junhwan shuts his mouth with a small smile.
“Seriously, the distorted strings is such a cool effect,” Jihoon continues to praise the younger boy after listening to one of his tracks. “Then the clapping in the pre-chorus and the way it leads up to and just relaxes back into the chorus is so great. I can’t even give you any feedback other than it was spectacular.”
“Thanks, hyung.”
There’s a knock at the door, “Hey, musical geniuses.”
The two look behind them and find Jeonghan standing in the doorway.
“We still have school in the morning; we need to get going.”
“Alright,” Jihoon says, then turns to Junhwan, “Want to show Hannie your track before we leave?”
Junhwan’s eyes widen and he shakes his head furiously no. Jihoon doesn’t know why the boy is so afraid of other people listening to his music; if Bumzu hadn’t peeked into Junhwan’s practice room the first day they met, Jihoon doesn’t think Junhwan ever would have shown anyone it.
“Aw, don’t you want to show hyung your song?” Jeonghan asks.
Junhwan realizes Jeonghan has come over to where he sits, crouched down and sending him an exaggerated pout. Junhwan shrinks in on himself, not wanting to tell the older boy no but also too scared to show him his track.
“That’s alright,” Jeonghan assures him, rubbing his back. “Just save your work so we can get back to the dorm and get to bed.”
Junhwan scooches forward and saves the open file before closing it and ejecting his flash drive from the studio computer. He safely stores the little red and black flash drive in his pocket and runs over to the older two boys where they wait by the door.
Jeonghan helps him put his backpack on and steps out into the hallway. Junhwan turns the studio lights off and shuts the door behind him, walking between Jeonghan and Jihoon on their way to the dorm.

《 Series Masterlist // ONEUS Masterlist // Boy Group Masterlist 》
You and Geonhak agreed that you would meet together on Tuesdays and Thursdays, right after ONEUS practices. You couldn't wait to dance the following Tuesday. It's currently Sunday evening, and the practice room is probably empty, so you grab your workout clothes and bag and walk to the RBW building. You don't live super close there, but the walking distance is manageable. It's always been your only exercise, so you tolerated it.
You use the key that the boys lent you long ago to get into the building. The practice room is empty, the lights off. It's 6PM, and none of the idols are expected to be here practicing. Obviously, they can come if they want. Youngjo often spends a lot of time in recording studios when producing. There have been multiple times where you'd hang out with the boys as they finished recording before comebacks late at night. This is the first time you've been here completely on your own, for yourself. You feel like you're trespassing, by not being an idol or trainee here, but you already have a bit of a reputation here as ONEUS's friend. No one will kick you out.
You place your bag down, and don't bother with the light. Your computer will be light enough. After stretching sufficiently, you take out your computer. You find the Weekly Idol choreography video you'd used the other day, and repeat the dance presented on the screen. You recall Geonhak's instructions, his voice echoing in your ear.
You're rushing, slow down a bit. Step. Step. Step. There you go.
You can feel how clumsy and stiff you are, but you can also feel how much better you are than from when you'd practice in your bedroom, watching live performances.
Your steps are much more in line with the beat now. Your hand movements aren't half as elegant or intentional as Geonhak's on screen, but they're present.
When you get to Geonhak's rap, instead of stopping, you continue. You clumsily try to imitate his skips and hops, and you manage to get through it. You notice the power in his movements, how each movement he makes is emphasized by the beat. Every kick, every hip thrust.
The song arrives at the pre-chorus, where Keonhee begins singing, and your eyes widen. Those moves are so fast and large. You're not there yet.
You restart the song and continue practicing up until Geonhak's part. He looks so elegant in the video, and you wonder if you look even half that elegant as you try to mirror him.
Halfway through Dongju's part of the song, the door is opened and Geonhak walks in, startling you. You yelp in surprise, and he yells, jumping back, and hits his back on the doorframe. He yells out in pain, falling to his knees as you rush to his side to help him, but he's already recovering on his own.
"Sorry for barging in," he says, before realizing it's you as you rub his back where it hit the doorframe. "Y/N? What are you doing here?"
"I'm . . . practicing," you say, gesturing to the computer which displays the video. "What're you doing here? Didn't your practice end hours ago?"
Guhak ducks his head. "I came back to practice," he admits, laughing while rubbing the back of his neck. "So I could figure out how to help you on Tuesday."
Oh.
You smile, looking away from him. You didn't think he'd need to practice extra to teach you. If you had known that, you probably wouldn't have asked him, simply because you don't want to be an inconvenience.
"I'm sorry for interrupting your practice," he says. "You had the lights of, so I thought no one was here. I'll find another empty room if you want."
You shake your head. "No, you can stay here and practice with me if you want."
"I can give you pointers if you need any," he says, taking off his thin jacket to reveal a black T-shirt. You nod, and he sets down his own bag near yours before plopping down on the ground. "Have you stretched yet? If you don't stretch before and after exercising, you could hurt yourself."
You nod, but sit down anyway to join him on the floor. "I stretched a bit, but I'll stretch with you."
After you both have finished stretching, you restart the song. The two of you dance together to the start of the song, watching yourselves in the mirror. You can see that you're doing well, much more on the beat with Geonhak beside you to follow, but his presence is also distracting.
For one, you can't help but compare yourself to him. He's much more confident with his moves, more deliberate. His moves are sharp and strong, and yet elegant at the same time. While you make the same moves at the same time as him, your moves are somewhat shaky. Of course, Geonhak has years of dance experience, and months of experience with the song, while you only had that one day last week and various random days you found yourself vibing to the song in your room, but that thought doesn't help your confidence enough.
Secondly, his bare arms are a little distracting. He's very strong, is able to carry two of his members easily, even three if he wants. His strength shows in his arm muscles.
By the time you two have gone through the song a couple times, you find yourself panting with your hands in your thighs. Geonhak, however, is barely breaking a sweat. The song continues in the background, and you watch in awe as Geonhak continues to dance gracefully.
After the song has finished, Geonhak smiles at you with his soft smile, and you swear butterflies are fluttering around your stomach. You internally scold yourself and tear your gaze away from him.
"Good job," Geonhak says, and you nod, avoiding his eyes. "You're getting the hang of it."
The butterflies don't mean anything, you tell yourself. You're just tired.
"Thanks," you say. Geonhak opens his mouth to say something when your phone rings loudly from inside your bag, which lies in the corner of the room. "Excuse me," you mutter, running to grab your phone. The caller ID reads 'Doongdoongie,' and you pick it up.
"Hello?" you ask.
"Hi Y/N!" Dongju's voice is loud through the phone, and you can't help but laugh a little.
"Hi Dongju," you say.
"Y/N, what are you doing right now?"
"I'm, uh, practicing dancing at RBW with Geonhak." You glance at Geonhak, and he shoots you a soft smile.
"Oh? Yes, I think Geonhak mentioned that he was going to be teaching you soon. He wouldn't shut up about it. He was very excited," Dongju says, and you raise your eyebrow, looking at Geonhak again.
"Was he?"
"Yeah, but that's not what I'm calling for. I'm calling to ask you for a favor. Can you come over to the dorm?"
"Now?"
"Yes, now."
"Why?" you ask.
"Aish, Y/N, I can't tell you that. Hurry up!"
You sigh. You were enjoying practicing With Geonhak. But . . . "Alright," you say.
"Thank you, Y/Nie!"
"Bye, Doongdoongie," you say. Dongju hangs up and you drop your phone to your side.
"Sorry, Geonhak, I have to go," you say to Geonhak, packing up your stuff.
"What? Why?" Geonhak furrows his eyebrows. "You should stretch quickly before going, to relax your body. You could hurt yourself if you don't."
You nod and plop down on the floor, and Geonhak joins you in stretching. You stretch your legs out forward, and reach for your toes. It doesn't matter if you can touch them, the point is to stretch your leg muscles.
"I dunno why. Dongju wanted me to meet him at the dorm. He didn't tell me why." You hear Geonhak sigh sadly, and look up at him. "So you were excited to teach me?" you ask. Geonhak's eyes widen, and he tears his eyes away from yours, as if to pretend he's too focused on stretching.
"What did he tell you?"
"He said you wouldn't shut up about it." You smile at him teasingly.
"He's exaggerating," Geonhak says. "I'd only mentioned it to him." He pauses. "I am excited to teach you, though."
Your heart feels warm. "Thanks, Geonhak."
You get up, dust off your workout pants, and grab your bag. As you reach the door, you turn to wave goodbye to Geonhak.
"See you Tuesday for practice," you say. "Bye!" He waves back, the softest smile on his face which makes the butterflies resurface again. You ignore them, and quickly leave.
You exit the building and walk to the ONEUS dorm. You've been there countless times since ONEUS moved in before debut, so you know the way well. Sometimes it's for movie nights. Sometimes, to pick up something for a member who's working at RBW. You can probably find your way there with your eyes closed.
You enter the passcode to the dormroom, and find that Dongju is in the living room, sitting on the couch, his phone in his hand. Hwanwoong sits next to him, also on his phone. Dongju looks up as you enter.
"You took your time," he says, and you glance at your own phone for the time.
"Don't be mean," Hwanwoong scolds Dongju, hitting him in the chest. You shoot him a smile. You're friends with Hwanwoong, but you aren't very close. He's always friendly, but he's like that with everyone. Besides interactions like the one at practice last week, you two don't talk too much. You do like and admire him, but he's kind of intimidatingly cool and you can barely muster the courage to speak to him on your own.
"I had to stretch before I left," you explain. "What's up?"
Dongju leans back on the couch, and gestures for you to sit next to him, on the opposite side from Hwanwoong. You do so, and Dongju smiles.
"Do you know what day it is, Y/N?" Dongju asks.
You wrack your brain. It's not anyone's birthday. Keonhee's birthday was just over a week ago. And it isn't a holiday today. So . . .
"June 5th? Sunday?" you offer. Hwanwoong smiles, obviously very amused.
"And what's coming soon?" Dongju asks.
You ponder for a moment. "July 6th?"
Hwanwoong laughs loudly, clapping his hands, while Dongju rolls his eyes. "No! I mean--yes, but . . . Y/N, Geonhak's birthday is coming up on the 26th!"
"Oh yes. I remember. Is that why you called me here today? To tell me that Geonhak's birthday is coming up in twenty one days?"
"Yes," Dongju says, smiling widely. "And I want you to help me and Hwanwoong plan a birthday party."
You blink. "I mean, yes. Of course. But why don't you ask the other members, too?"
Hwanwoong sighs and sits up. "The members decided to split birthday planning into two parts. We split ourselves into two teams. Team A, which is Youngjo, Seoho and Keonhee, and Team B, which is me and Dongju," Hwanwoong explains, his face too serious for the situation. Still, you listen intently. "Each team plans a separate part of the day. Before lunch and after lunch. Team A is also in charge of lunch plans, and we are in charge of decorations. Then we will come together the week before his birthday and figure out the final plan. Since we have one less member, we get to choose one person to add. So we invited you."
You blink, processing the situation. Two teams of ONEUS are separately planning Geonhak's birthday. Hwanwoong and Dongju want you to help them.
"Okay."
"You'll help?" Hwanwoong asks, an excited smile appearing on his face.
"Of course! He's my friend too."
"Excellent. Do we want to start now?" Hwanwoong asks, patting the desk in front of the table. You notice a paper and a pencil have been lying there the whole time. "Let's make a list. What does every party have?" he asks.
"Cake," you suggest.
"Balloons!" Dongju says.
Hwanwoong scribbles quickly on the paper as you and Dongju shoot him suggestions.
"Games."
"Snacks and food."
"Alright." Hwanwoong says. "Remember, Team A is doing everything before lunch as well as lunch plans. We only need to decide snacks."
"He really likes ice cream," you say. "The one rainbow one from Baskin-Robbins. He loves that."
Hwanwoong laughs as he scribbles on the paper. "Yes, he does. Let's go back to decorations. What will we want?"
"Streamers."
"Balloons," Dongju says again. Hwanwoong snorts, writing it down even though it's already written.
You continue listing things off, chatting on and on about plans for Geonhak's birthday. You find yourself getting more and more excited and energized.
You end up leaving after a couple hours, walking to your own apartment, a smile on your face. You think about all of the good things going on. You're planning a surprise birthday party for Geonhak with Hwanwoong and Dongju. And on Tuesday, Geonhak will start teaching you how to dance.

a/n: woah, I completely deleted what I had planned for ch. 5, and so I had to change a few things in ch. 4 before I could upload it. I know it’s been a long time, but school has been demanding so much. and now that we’re online, it’s so much worse. I’ve never had so much busy work. But, here is ch 4. I hope you guys like it. I also added in that Jackson is Y/N best friend, because it’s pretty obvious after the last chapter :) -admin Sam

Chapter 4
Jungkook had left to pick up dinner for the three of you as you were almost finished for the night. Yoongi was working at the computer, the sounds of clicks and clacks all that you could hear in the room. You had decided to lay down on the couch to rest for a second, holding your phone above your face.
And you should have known it would happen. You dropped your phone right on your bottom lip, letting out a yelp as you quickly sat up, giggling to yourself.
“Are you okay?” He asked, only turning his chair around when you didn’t answer, not able to stop yourself from giggling. He raised an eyebrow in your direction, his face completely serious. You stiffened.
“I dropped my phone on my face, I’m fine,” you sobered up as best you could. Yoongi breathed a laugh, and you could see his gums when he smiled.
You immediately relaxed. “So, how much more do we have to do?”
He turned back around to the computer “You guys are both really fast when it comes to recording. We really just have to do the harmonies and background. I’m really impressed with you, Y/N, considering you haven’t really recorded a lot.”
“Well, that’s not entirely true,” you paused as he gave you his full attention again. “I pre-record a lot of demo tracks for some of the JYP artists. Ever since I signed the contract at JYP, I’ve been doing a lot of underground work.”
“Have you considered working outside of JYP? I’d be honored if you’d sing for a couple of my songs I’m working on. Maybe a solo debut?” he asked, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees.
“I don’t think I’m really ready for that,” you answered timidly.
“What do you mean?” he rolled his chair closer to the couch. You weren’t sure if you wanted to be as openly honest as you would usually be with Jackson or Chan, but there was something about Yoongi that made you want to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. You let out a sigh in resignation.
“Okay, so here’s an extremely hypothetical scenario. Please don’t be offended.” He nodded, indicating for you to continue. “Hidden female artist suddenly makes a song with a male member of an extremely popular idol group. It’s not a song that gets any real income, but it would bring in a lot of clout. People seem pretty okay with it, they’re okay with the collaboration for now. But then, hidden female artist gets solo debut produced by another male member of the same extremely popular boy group. People really start to pay attention, they start rumors. ‘She must have paid someone,’ ‘she’s just in it for the money,’ ‘she’s got to be sleeping with one of them,’ or worse ‘she’s sleeping with both of them or all of them.’ Both the images of the female artist and the entire male idol group are brought down and dragged through the mud,” You took a deep breath, pausing before you continued. “I couldn’t do that to you guys. You guys are making waves, and not just on a musical level. You guys are doing great things, and you’re helping a lot of people. You need good attention, not bad attention, and I think I’d only give you bad attention.”
Yoongi was studying you now, and you averted your eyes to your lap. The room felt suffocating. He was looking at you too hard and you didn’t like the feeling of being under a microscope. “And I mean, I want to finish school for right now, anyway. I’m good with staying in the background.”
At that moment, Jungkook burst in with food and the suffocating atmosphere diminished with his arrival and the presence of something to eat.
“Chan told me you really like anything chicken as long as it isn’t spicy.” He sat stir-fried chicken and veggies in front of you along with rice, moving along to hand Yoongi his food.
“You asked Chan what I wanted to eat?” You couldn’t believe it. Well, they had become closer friends since they met, and they were the same age as well. Okay, you could definitely believe it.
But you were also incredibly touched by Jungkook’s kindness. He took into consideration what you liked to eat and the fact that you couldn’t have spicy food.
“Well, yeah. How else was I supposed to feed you?”
“I would have eaten anything you’d given me, Jungkook, but thank you. So much,” you stood up, hugging the boy without even thinking.
When you pulled away, you realized what you’d done. “I’m so sorry Jungkook!” You realized a second too late. “Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry. I did it without even thinking!”
Jungkook laughed a little, smiling at your cute reaction. “It’s okay Y/N. I know how you are. I’ve seen it enough with both Jackson and Chan. You’re okay.”
You released a huge sigh of relief, flopping back down on the couch.
Yoongi played back the progress while you ate and you put in your two cents about what harmonies where would sound the best. Jungkook really liked your ideas and put his finished food down.
“Jungkook, I want you to add one lower harmony for now on the chorus, and I’ll add only one upper. We’ll check the depth of the result and see if we should add more.”
“I’ve never really heard it explained like that before,” Jungkook laughed at your words.
You laughed his comment off, not wanting to think about if he were making fun of you or not. “Yeah, yeah, now let’s start working.”
He nodded, smiling in excitement as he did as you instructed.
--
“I can’t believe we almost finished the song in one night,” Jungkook sighed in satisfaction. He had a lot more energy than you did at the moment. You couldn’t remember the last time you stayed up this late.
“I’m sure there are a lot of things that need to be fixed. I think I might want to re-record my part,” you sighed sleepily as you checked the time on your phone. It was well past midnight, getting close to dawn. You had texted your manager earlier, telling her that you’d be done soon. Hopefully she was close by now.
“Thanks for working with me, Y/N.”
Your soft smile easily graced your face. “Of course.”
Your phone beeped, signaling that your manager was waiting for you downstairs. You started taking off the hoodie that Jungkook had given you earlier (it had gotten cold in the studio and you had been freezing – you still were), when he stopped you.
“Keep it for now, it’s gotten cooler outside. Here, let me walk you down,” he offered. You nodded in agreement and thanks. Before you stood, you flipped the hood up. The hoodie was huge and you were warm and snuggly.
You stumbled a little towards the door, your tiredness crashing into you all at once, causing both guys to chuckle. Jungkook grabbed your arm and looped it through his. “I got you, Y/N.”
“Thanks, Kook,” you sleepily called him the nickname that BamBam used on occasion on accident, but Jungkook didn’t seem to mind as he didn’t call you out on it.
He led you to the elevator and tried to keep you steady on the ride down. You were falling asleep while standing up, and this only happens when you have really lacked sleep. You had skipped your crackhead/delirious stage, as you were working really hard on the song, and went straight to your ‘I’m about to pass out, where’s the bed’? stage.
“How about I just carry you the rest of the way?” he chuckled. You were currently slumped against the elevator wall, eyes closed.
You let out a whine. “But I’m fat,” you mumbled. At that exact moment, you stumbled and if Jungkook had not caught you, you would have been sprawled out on the floor, snoring.
“Oh well,” he said as he turned his back you, forcing you to jump on by grabbing your arms and tugging.
“Thank you, Kook. I mean, thank you for being my friend. You’re my friend, right?” You mumbled as you laid your head on his shoulder, your eyes staying closed. He walked out of the elevator and towards the door to the parking garage.
“Yes, I’m your friend.” You could feel his laughter shaking his shoulders.
“You promise?” You liked Jungkook. He was a really good guy, and you wanted your friendship to last past the making of the song. He wormed his way into your life. You had thought you would just work on the song, and you would live your life thinking ‘wow, I’ve met BTS Jungkook and we did a song together!’ but you realized that he was human. He was a person, a good person, and he lived his life similar to how you lived yours. You wanted to be his friend now, a real friend, someone he could lean on if he needed it.
Idols go through much more than people thought, and you’d seen it firsthand with Chan and Jackson. They came to you with their problems, just like you went to them with yours. You wanted to be that kind of friend to Jungkook. He probably doesn’t need you, but you still wanted to be there just in case.
“Yes, I promise, Y/N.” He opened the door, walking to the van where your manager waved him over from the drivers seat. She slipped her mask back up and got out, opening the back door for Jungkook to sit you down, but you didn’t make it to the seat. You crawling onto the van’s floor and curled into a ball, dragging your stuffed animal down from the seat to be your pillow. Mimi laughed, throwing a blanket from the seat over you.
“Wait, let me take a pic and send it to Chan,” he laughed as well.
“Send it to Jackson, too!” you yelled, curling further into yourself. You maneuvered the blank to cocoon you, causing both Mimi and Jungkook to giggle like children.
“I hope you sleep well, Y/N,” Jungkook said as he waved goodbye. You popped a hand up, waving haphazardly back and proceeded to close your eyes and drift off.
-
Mimi dropped you off close to your college, asking that you text her once you are safely in your dorm. When you got to your dorm building, students were leaving to get to their first class, but you had a clear day. As soon as you were in your room, you sent out texts to Jungkook, Mimi, and, of course, Chan, before throwing yourself into your bed and shutting out the world.

New Kid (Billy Hargrove X F!Reader)
Howdy folks, sorry I am late! I started school and I am also sorting out my work schedule. Here is part 4 of new kid, thank you for reading/liking/reblogging/following etc! I appreciate you all so so much.
Summary: You’re new in Hawkins, hailing from the big city on the east coast. As a city kid, you think you’ve been stuck here to suffer in a small town, but there’s a certain someone who shakes it all up.
Warnings: Swearing, mentions of smoking cigarettes, underage drinking
Taglist: @salemlysi @asheseiler
You sat at your mirror putting on your makeup and getting ready for tonight’s party. You swiped on a tube of red lipstick and pressed your lips together, spreading out the color. Tonight’s outfit consisted of a white cropped tank top with a slightly oversized black cardigan knotted in the front. You had on high waisted black pleather pants, and a black belt with a shiny silver belt buckle. You laced up your old red Doc Martens, they were well-worn and you wouldn’t be too upset if they got scuffed or dirty. Your hair was curled to the nines, sprayed in place so that nothing frizzed out.
“Damn, I look good.” You said to yourself in your mirror. You threw on your denim jacket and pocketed your lipstick and your flask full of whiskey. Moments later, you heard loud beeps coming from outside.
“(y/n)! I think Steve is here to come get you!” Your dad shouts from downstairs. You come downstairs to find your dad is dressed up, with a suitcase at the door.
“Uh. Dad? What’s with the suitcase?”
“I have to go on a road trip, see Uncle Willy about some things.”
Your brows furrowed. “What kind of things?”
“Adult things, kiddo. I’ll be gone for the weekend. I’ll be back sometime on Monday.” He kisses your forehead and heads out for his car. You snag your keys and head out of the house, locking the door behind you. Nancy and Steve greet you right as you slide into the backseat of his BMW.
Nancy lets out a whistle, “You look fantastic (y/n)! Ready to have the best night ever?” She says to you enthusiastically.
“What are we waiting for? Let’s roll!”
--
You, Nancy and Steve enter the party house. You can feel the bass thumping in the house and your chest. The living room is full of teens with red plastic cups in their hands, dancing drunkenly and laughing. You navigate your way to the kitchen, where the rest of the booze was.
“Hey! You’re that new girl! Come, come get a drink!” It was that kid in your chemistry class, the one that sat next to Billy.
“What’s your name again?” You shout over the music to ask him.
“Oh yeah, I’m Tommy!” He replies cheerfully. “Hey, come on, you look sober!”
You laugh, “It’s because I am. Give me something to drink!”
He hands you a beer, but before you can crack it open he stops you. “I bet you can’t shotgun that!”
“What? Tommy, I could drink you under the table. Stop playin’.” You scoff. This gets the attention of the kids in the kitchen, with some of them ‘ooooh’-ing like owls. Just as this happens, you spot a mop of blond curls make its way to the kitchen where you and Tommy were. Billy eyed you up, taking a look at your outfit before turning his attention to Tommy.
“What’s going on?” He asks Tommy.
“Oh you know, (y/n) over here thinks she can ‘drink me under the table’, her words exact.” He laughs.
Billy slaps five dollars down on the table. “My bets on her. Tommy, you’re a lightweight!”
You laugh out loud. “We’re placing bets now?” You pick up the five and examine it. “Who else is ready to see Tommy lose to the new girl, huh?” You were met with roars of excitement as teens were tossing cash on the table, your pile only slightly bigger than his. Billy watched you, taking a swig out of his can of beer.
“All bets are final, and winner takes all. Let the games begin!” Billy shouts, as you stab the side of your beer can, crack the lid and shotgun it. It empties fast, and you crush it underneath your boot. You continue on to your second one, choosing to chug it. The kids in the kitchen were cheering you on, hearing chants of “Chug! Chug! Chug!” over the Bon Jovi song that was booming throughout the house.
You had finished way too many beers, the beer cans underneath your feet. You were still upright, while Tommy had half a can left. People in the kitchen were chanting your name, but all you did was let out a loud belch. You were met with cheers and claps on your back.
“You give up yet? Ready to throw down the white flag?” You guffawed at Tommy.
“Alright, alright! You win. Fair and square.” He shoves his bet money into your pile and you throw your hands up, inciting more cheers from your crowd of “fans”.
“That’s how you drink Hawkins! That’s how you fuckin’ do it!” You open your flask and take a large swig, feeling its warmth trickle down your throat, feeling some drip down your lips and neck. You close your flask and feel a hard stare on you.
Billy walks over to you and leans up against the counter while you count up and pocket your cash.
“That was pretty impressive, (y/n). Didn’t know you had that kind of fire in you.” He smirks.
You turn to him, uncapping your flask and drinking more out of it. “I’m a woman of many mysteries, Billy.” You laugh, tucking your hair behind your ear.
“And I’m really digging this outfit. Completely different from that goody-two-shoes getup you had on at school today.”
You raised an eyebrow and smiled at him, posing. “Oh? You like what you see?” You do a spin, almost tumbling over.
He laughs at you, helping regain your balance. “Careful. Don’t need you busting your ass because you wanna show off.”
A hearty laugh emits from your belly, then a burp. “Excuse me! Jesus christ.” Your head snapped to the dance floor. You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) by Dead or Alive played through the speakers.
“Are you alright (y/n)?” Billy asks, a bit concerned.
“I’m fantastic! This is my favorite song like, ever! Come dance!”
“(y/n) I can’t dan-” You yanked him by the wrist and dragged him to the dance floor, completely ignoring what he had to say.
You got on the dance floor, and started to bob your head to the synth in the song, getting ready to dance and shout your heart out.
All I know is that to me
You look like you're lots of fun
Open up your lovin' arms
I want some, want some
You spun around, dancing near Billy and trying to get him to loosen up and enjoy the song. You then grabbed his hand and yanked him closer so you two could actually dance. He began to relax and laugh along at you dancing. He didn’t know what it was exactly, but something about seeing you smile and have fun made his heart flutter.
I set my sights on you
(And no one else will do)
And I, I've got to have my way now, baby
All I know is that to me
You look like you're havin' fun
Open up your lovin' arms
Watch out, here I come
You sang the second verse and pre-chorus, looked at Billy and shot him a wink. He laughed, a slow smirk spreading across his face.
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round
Like a record, baby, right 'round, 'round, 'round
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round
Like a record, baby, right 'round, 'round, 'round
He grabbed you by your hand and spun you around like you were in a ballroom. He pulled you back into him, your back pressed against his chest. You were twirled out again, only this time you were dipped low, his face close to yours. It took all of your willpower to not kiss him right then and there. You came back up and danced for the rest of the night, laughing and taking the occasional sip from your flask.
--
As the music died down, you had left the dance floor panting and sweaty, a dewy sheen spread across your face. You stumbled over to the kitchen and grabbed your jean jacket from the counter, making sure your keys were still there and they were. You put on your jacket and walk outside, only to see that Steve’s car was gone.
“Goddamn Steve… and Nancy. Damn ‘em! Damn em to hell.” You spat, staring at the porch. “Now I have to walk and, and I don’t even know where I’m at. And its LATE! Goddamn it!”
“Who are you talking to sweetheart?” Billy asked you. He was leaned against the banister, smoking a cigarette.
“I’m talking to me, genius.” You slurred. “Now I’m talking to you. I wanna go home but I got ditched!” You sulked. You walked over next to the banister where Billy was and plucked the cigarette from his lips. You took a drag and exhaled, letting it escape through your nose and lips. Billy watched your lips wrap around the cigarette, wishing it was him.
“Like what you see?” You shoot him a wink, blowing the smoke away from his face and stubbing out the cigarette.
“Yeah. I kinda do.” He licks his lips, smirking. “Now, tell me (y/n), how exactly are you getting home?”
You sigh frustratedly, “I guess I’m just gonna walk and figure it out.” You took out your flask and opened it to drink, but there was no more whiskey left. You pouted.
“You’re not walking. I’ll take you home.” Billy stands up and offers his hand to you. You slowly push yourself up and gather yourself. You take a look at Billy’s hand and high five it. He looks at you puzzled.
“Fix your face! Is that not why your hand was out?” You asked, words slurring here and there.
“No, smartass. Give me your hand so I can walk you to my car.” He states, the slightest pink flush spread across his face. Giggling, you take his hand into yours and you make your way to his car. He unlocks the passenger side door and opens it for you. You lower yourself in, his hand pressed gently on the small of your back keeping you steady. Billy closes your door and makes his way to the drivers side.
“Where to, gorgeous?” He turns towards you.
“332 Oak Lane.”
He nods, starting up his car. As the drive begins, you notice him slip a glance at you every now and then.
“Hey Hargrove, take a picture. It’ll last longer.” You chuckle at him.
He laughs back, “No picture could capture all that beauty you got.”
Your eyebrows flew up, painting a shocked look on your face. “Oh! Smooth talker over here. Didn’t know you could flirt like that. Color me impressed!”
The ride was peacefully quiet, right up until he pulled up to your house.
“Nice neighborhood.” He says, then continues, turning to look at you. “How will your folks feel about you coming in piss drunk after a successful night out?”
You laugh at his sentiment, catching his gaze. “My dads gone for the weekend. Went outta state to see my uncle. I have the whole place to myself!”
“You.. you’re real cute ya know. Real good lookin’.” You say to him with a dopey smile on your face.
He flushes the softest shade of pink, smiles for a second and licks his lips. “Ah stop it. You’re only saying that because you’re drunk.”
“I am not! It’s true. I might be a little tipsy but.. I am right, you know.” You smile at him.
“Tipsy? You passed that stage after your third beer. (y/n), it’s time you head inside.” He pats your thigh.
You playfully roll your eyes, smiling. You place your hand on top of his and give it a squeeze. “Okay, I guess so. Can you walk me in? My room is up some stairs.”
“And?”
“And I’m scared I’m gonna fall! Please?”
He removes his hand from your thigh. “Alright, I’ll walk you in. Don’t go tellin’ anyone either. I have a reputation to keep.”
You let out a thunderous laugh. “Yeah, okay buddy.” He comes over to your side of the car and opens the door. You shakily get up, feeling the dizziness get to you.
“Easy now. Here, I got you.” He puts your arm over his shoulder and scoops you up, carrying you bridal style to your front porch.
“Oh wow. You’re so strong! I feel like a princess.” You giggle.
“You are. And I work out.” He continues, “Where are your keys?”
You pull out the key that unlocks your front door and pushed it in his hands. He unlocks your front door and uses his back to shut it.
“Alright princess. Where to?” He asks, looking down at you. Your makeup is smudged, your hair frizzed out, your eyes glazed over, flushed pink from all the drinking you had done that night. Even in your disheveled state, he still thought you were gorgeous.
“Up the stairs. You’ll know my room when you see it.” You mumble, the tiredness setting in. Billy walks up the stairs and to your room. He could tell it was your room because of the giant Bon Jovi poster stuck to your door.
“Okay put me down.” You ask, and he lowers you down. You slap the light switch on, illuminating your room. Billy gazes around your room, looking at all the band posters hung up on your wall. You also had christmas lights strung around your room. You had a big bed to yourself, a vanity, a small dresser and a decent sized closet. He noticed one wall void of posters. Instead of posters, you had two guitars mounted on the wall instead. One acoustic, one electric. Underneath the guitars were some amps and other guitar tech.
“You play guitar?” He asks, looking at the guitars, his back turned. You were changing out of your party clothes, leaving you in your tank top and black boyshort underwear. You took a nearby scrunchie and pulled your hair up into a ponytail.
“Oh yeah. Back home I was in a band. Lead guitarist you know. I still got it. Maybe I’ll play for you one day.” You say to him. “I wasn’t blessed with good vocals, my dear, but these hands? God must have took extra time with ‘em.”
“You really are a woman of many mysteries, (y/n).” He turns back around to you, but you had slipped out of the room and into the bathroom next door. He walks out of your room and finds you hunched over the porcelain throne, emptying out your insides.
Billy kneels down next to you, feeling his large warm hand on your back.
“I HATE throwing up!” You say, face still in the toilet. “Shit is so gross.”
He chuckles. “Maybe you shouldn’t have started that drinking contest with Tommy then.”
You lift your head up, wiping your tears away and reaching to flush the toilet. “What was I supposed to do? Let him think he could get away with shit-talking me? Just let him test me?” You and Billy laugh on your bathroom floor. “I’ll have you know, Hargrove, I come from a line of strong drinkers.”
He laughs, “Yeah, and I’m next in line to be the King of England.” He stands up, and holds his hand out to you. He helps you up, and you turn to the sink to wash whats left of your makeup off. You’re both looking at each other in the mirror.
“I look so gross right now.” You mutter, taking out your jar of Noxzema face wash. You ran the water until it was warm and bent down to the sinks level to wet your face.
“I’ve seen worse.” Billy says, looking down at your butt. You popped up from the sink and so did his eyes. You unscrewed your jar of face wash and began rubbing it in. Billy took a seat on top of the toilet, watching you.
“You know, you didn’t have to stay.” You state to him.
“You kickin’ me out (y/n)?”
“No. Just saying you didn’t have to stay. I appreciate it, though.”
He hesitated with his response. Nobody’s ever appreciated me. Or said it out loud, at least, he thought.
“Thanks.”
“Mhm!” You rinse the soap off your face, pat it dry and moisturize with some face cream. You turn to Billy, smiling.
“How do I look?” You say, posing. Some of your hair had stuck to your face while you were washing it, you were in a tank top and underwear. You thought you looked like a mess.
“Like a million bucks, doll.” He chuckles, smiling at you. You turn away and brush your teeth. Here you are, in your home, with local bad boy turned softie Billy Hargrove in your house. You catch his eye, and he just doesn’t stop looking at you, lips slightly parted.
You rinse and spit. “Hey, Hargrove. Close your mouth or you’ll catch flies.”
That snaps him out of his gaze, and his mouth closes. You yawn and stretch, feeling fatigue and the slight pounding of a headache lingering in the back of your head. You shut your eyes and pinch the bridge of your nose.
“It’s time for you to get some rest.” Billy looks up and says to you. You nod your head, and you walk over to your room.
“Hey could you like.. turn around or something? I want to change tops.”
“Sure.” He turns his back to you and you grab a large sleepshirt out of your dresser drawer. You peel off the tank top and throw it across your room, allowing you to slip on your big shirt. “Okay, I’m done.”
“You look like a dork.” He says.
“Yeah? It takes one to know one. Dork.” You both chuckle. You crawl into bed and your head sinks into your pillow. You sigh happily.
“Thanks for taking care of me.”
“Not a problem doll.” He shuts off the light and begins to walk out.
Before you fall asleep, you say one last thing to Billy.
“Hey, Billy?”
“Yeah?”
“You’re not as bad as they say you are, you know.”
Billy becomes bashful at this statement. He’s lucky the lights are out or else she’d see just how red in the face he was. Those words would continue to ring throughout his head for the rest of the night.
Before he had his chance to respond, you had already succumbed to the sweet embrace of slumber. Billy slowly approached your bed, lowered himself down and kissed your forehead. He watched the smallest smile form on your face before you turned over, enveloping yourself in your blankets.
He backed out of the room and went into the bathroom looking for medicine. He takes out two pills of Advil and places them on your nightstand, along with a handwritten note. He leaves your house, locking the door behind him.
There was something about you that struck a chord within Billy somewhere. And it unnerved him to his core.

A Cautionary Tale? A Love Story? You Decide
It's been one of those rollercoaster weeks, one that began with a great deal of pain, which I tried to ignore at first, so as not to ruin my 17- year old’s already Corona-compromised birthday party. At some point during our 5 p.m. family Zoom celebration, I quietly left the room and went upstairs to lie down, writhe in pain, get back up, bend over, moan, repeat. This continued through the night Monday – and at one point, I remember thinking that labor wasn’t this bad and that I should probably go to the emergency room. In this new world we’re in, that thought was quickly dismissed by one word: COVID. I paced the floor at 3 a.m., alternately moaning and then bopping my head and sort of softly singing what kept running through my head, which was the chorus of The Knack’s 1979 hit song, “My Sharona.” Only my version went “My Corona.” Yes, even while suffering, I’m clever that way.
By Tuesday morning the pain had subsided. I was exhausted however, and slept throughout the day. “Tricia! Drink this! Jesus, she’s burning up.” It was the alarm in my husband’s voice that I responded to more than the command. I sat up, drank the water he was holding out to me, and when I caught my reflection in the mirror over the dresser I had the brief, feverously detached impression of someone who’d sat under a sun lamp for too long. Sun lamp, the words made me almost giggle out loud. Sun-lamp, sun-lamp, sun-lamp…Does anyone even know what that is anymore? A few hours later I had a virtual appointment with my regular GP, during which the decision was made for me to go to the office first thing Wednesday for a full exam. My instructions (my fever-addled brain again added the words “should I choose to accept them” - hehehe), for entering the building would come in the form a text.
My office exam was efficient and thorough. Upon arrival, I called the office and someone met me at a side door. As we were both masked and gloved, we nodded and murmured muffled greetings. Two PAs and an MD palpated my tender abdomen while I stifled screams. They decided that I should have a C-T scan that day, with the expectation that the offending culprit was a kidney stone. As many radiology facilities are currently closed, it took a few hours for them to locate one that would take me. My scan took place at 4:30. I was the last patient of their day.
Fast forward to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. I picked up the call, which was remarkable in itself because anyone who knows me knows how irritating it is that, a) my phone is always on silent mode, and, b) I rarely answer numbers I don’t recognize. It was another doctor from Vanguard, calling to let me know that my C-T scan showed no evidence of kidney stones – “Yay!” BUT, he cut in, it did show acute appendicitis. What I needed to do, he said, was to go directly to the nearest ER.
So here’s where this story really begins, because I was about to get a reality check regarding the difference between the inconveniences of “social distancing” and quite literally, matters of life and death. For those of us who are shuffling around at home in our sweatpants, eating too much, complaining about the buffoonery of our President, laughing at all the funny memes, and who are, to one degree or another, COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS to the fact that health care workers do not have the luxury of ANY of that, here’s the newsflash: The Corona virus has virtually SHUT down normal operations for hospitals and surgical facilities, so if you’re also laughing in the face of social-distancing guidelines, and just can’t wrap your head around the possibility of contracting this deadly disease, know this too: If you break your arm, or your spouse has a heart attack, or your child’s strange rash won’t go away and you’re just really concerned, good luck. We are NOT in Kansas anymore, peeps.
I considered doing a bit of a negative a rant on the first hospital that I went to here, but perhaps that wouldn’t be fair. “The nearest ER” for me would have been another hospital, but due to their somewhat dubious reputation, we opted to go just a bit farther away. The best thing I can say about that experience was that the safety protocols to enter the ER were impressive. Picture the scene in E.T. where the Hazmat-suited guys from the space program find out about him and “invade” the house in a tunnel of white - then picture the people standing six feet apart outside of say, ShopRite, only these people don’t look so great. They’re kind of bent over, or swaying, or leaning on someone else. Then count your blessings that your gut hurts and you’re not bleeding out…or struggling to breathe.
Three hours later, after they’d reviewed my scans and completed all of the necessary pre-op tests (blood work, EKG, urine analysis), I got the word that most of the ORs were being used as ICUs for COVID patients, and they were only doing “emergent” surgeries. They sent me home with massive doses of antibiotics, and a referral to see their staff general surgeon - outpatient.
I figured they were right, too. Must not be very serious. I was doing well with that notion until the following morning, when I heard the barely concealed shock in the voice of my regular MD.
“Did they see your scans?” his tone serving only to increase my anxiety.
“Yeah. But my appendix hasn’t exploded yet.” I said.
“Ah,” he sighed, “I know things are being handled differently in the ‘current environment,’ but last time I checked, acute appendicitis was emergent.”
Okay, pay attention now, because here’s where it gets really interesting: See if you can answer his parting questions:
“Do you have a general surgeon? Preferably one with their own facility?”
So, do you? And if you do, are you sure they’re even open right now? I sure as hell didn’t (and the name they gave me at the hospital turned out to be for a doctor whose answering machine told me he was not seeing new patients). And the idea that it was now pretty much my problem to solve was a little intimidating – especially for someone who generally needs to be told that they’re sick (enough) or in (enough) pain to seek help—but that’s another story. Now that doctor, who I respect and like a lot, said he’d be trying to find me one, but that I should do my research as well.
My husband and I made a fairly long list of people/places to call, and split it. Those we were able to reach at all offered possible solutions to my dilemma, but each dead-ended pretty quickly. I focused on the task now, trying to ignore what it might mean that the ache in my belly seemed to be spreading down my right leg.
As of this writing, I have yet to hear back from my regular GP and yet, here I sit, post-op, able to get this down mostly because of a Facebook message I sent to one of the nurses in the Belleville Public School district. The only real help I got came from her, a nurse, who responded immediately to an “in-boxed” message, and kept responding for the next hour, sending me the names and phone numbers of doctors (sometimes with their credentials!), links to possible facilities, and words of encouragement. She gave me her personal cell phone number and encouraged me to call it if I had questions and/or to let her know how it was going. I felt like she meant it, too. I also think she was responsible for the first in a series of serendipitous events that just may have saved my life. One of the names she gave me turned out to be the dad of one of my kid’s friends.
At that point, things happened pretty quickly. I called him (at home) and told him my situation. In a matter of 20 minutes, he had my scans and had booked a time slot for me for same-day surgery at Clara Maass. He’s a high-energy, outgoing kind of guy, and although I’d stood on sidelines with him and his lovely wife at many a sports event, I don’t know him well enough, nor did I think it was appropriate to laugh out loud when he laid out the plan: “With everything going on, I just really want to do you – and get you the hell out of there!”
So here I am, more grateful to him than I can possibly express and having some time to consider just how random and crazy and dangerous that whole situation was (turns out, my appendix had begun to perforate after all, and the real fun was just beginning) and how fortunate I am.
But the real heroes here - Oh, and God, aren’t we all a little sick of the “hero” thing? – well get over it, and listen up! From the minute I walked through the door of Clara Maass yesterday, my experience was the best it could possibly have been. The nurses! OMG the nurses - I was in pre-op for hours. Lucky as I was to have been squeezed in to an already crowded surgical schedule, the truth of the matter was that my presence had required a quick shifting of resources—stretchers and space and - nurses. My sudden appearance in the queue was inconvenient, possibly even annoying. And yet all of them, including the nurse who ran the OR, came by to check on me, to give me extra blankets, to chat with me, and laugh with me. A friend’s daughter-in-law, who is a nurse there, got a text from him and even she came from three floors below just to say hello and charm me with her Australian accent and tired-but-twinkling blue eyes. I swear, for me? The whole experience was a cross between a weirdly sterile spa stay, and – as mine all happened to be women - a girls’ sleepover with your best girlfriends—only these were women I'd just met (but they’d also pretty much seen me naked, so, there’s that…).
Most of them were nearing the end of a 12-hour shift. As I lay there, relaxed and warm, reading and texting, they race-walked back and forth among those of us who waited, or were recovering. I lost count of how many times one of them asked me if I was okay, or if I needed something. They ate their dinners on the move, taking bites and then sprinting off, tearing off one set of gloves, putting on another. These people Do. Not. Sit. The sink was right near my bed, so I saw a lot of hand-washing traffic too, and a lot of red, chapped, over-sanitized hands. They spoke in soothing voices to those who were waiting, and possibly scared, and loud-enough voices for those emerging from the cloud of anesthesia to understand. Sometimes they shouted good-natured complaints to one another, or teased one another – and me, as when one started repacking those bags they give you for your clothes, amusement in her voice as she yelled, “What the hell did you do here, shove it all in like a little kid? Your purse is open – Maria, come over here and see this – she’s a mess!” Hahahaha! One came by and pointed to the cover of the book I was reading entitled “The Silent Patient”, and joked “That’s the kind we like!”
I even began to wonder if what I was getting was “special treatment” reserved for those whose surgeries were personally called-in by the surgeon. Once he arrived, however, it was clear that not only did they not know he was the one who got me in, but they chided him in the same affectionate way. At a point, I said to one of them, “Doctors think they’re all that, but nurses really run the show don’t they?” She winked at me and elbowed me a little, “Like husbands, honey – they just think they’re in charge!”
I lounged, for over four hours while they stood on what had to be tired feet, hands on hips as they talked to me, telling me which part of the hospital they’d spent the morning in, or where they were headed next in this crazy, all-hands-on-deck environment. We chatted about jobs and kids, and only when the topic of this deadly disease came up did the lack of words become conspicuous. Then it was all a mime of sad shakes of the head and downward glances.
It occurs to me today that after all of this, I'm not sure I would recognize any of them tomorrow if I saw them on street – nor they me. Of course, we were all masked. But maybe I would – if I could see their eyes again. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that most of all, those eyes conveyed a profound kindness. And laughter, and concern, and compassion, and dedication—and a toughness that allows them to do it all.
I'll tell you a secret: I am a person who often has a weird response to unexpected kindness - it makes me cry. I welled up more than once yesterday afternoon. I may have been just one of many for them – this is just what they do - but for me, a bond was made. I will always remember them.
Make no mistake: it’s no hardship to be home in your sweatpants with your gel manicure looking a little ratchet, and your spouse and kids seeming more like houseguests who have overstayed their welcome. Today, I want you to feel really, really blessed and grateful, and if you’re like me, a generally healthy person who never really gave too much thought to the job that these people do, I hope I was able to convey just a little of it.
That school nurse who rescued me put it this way: “I took an oath when I graduated just as physicians do. I have followed it for 28 years and it has never let me or my patients down.” That whole oath thing is good and important and all, but the heart behind it gives it grace.
So, if you get an invitation to do one of those car processions where you beep your horn and cheer for the local health care workers as they go in to, or leave, work– get in your car and go. Or, just mail them each a check for a million dollars. Either way.

Thoughts on Lover
@taylorswift you killed it. To be perfectly honest, starting with Red it's been a learn to love (I don't do well with change and I lovelovelove them all now!), but with this album I immediately lovered it!
It was really hard to rank the songs on this album because they are all so good! But here's my take.
#18 False God
This is the only song that I had a "meh" reaction to. It's slowly growing on me, but if one song had to be cut, it would be this one.
Favorite lyrics: "I know heaven's a thing / I go there when you touch me, honey / Hell is when I fight with you"
#17 Cruel Summer
I like this song, but I just don't get this song. I like the sound and, I love love love the bridge, but I just don't understand it. (I also thought the lyrics were "he looks so pretty like the devil" instead of "he looks up grinning like a devil")
Favorite lyrics: "I don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you" and "'And I scream, "For whatever it's worth / I love you, ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?"'
#16 You Need to Calm Down
Very fun song and I like it a lot, who would have thought this would be one of the weaker songs on the album? This song is a triple, most of the rest of the songs are completely out of the park home runs! Great message, I think everyone one needs to calm down (ironically especially the left).
Favorite lyrics: "Say it in the street, that's a knock-out / But you say it in a tweet, that's a cop-out" and "Shade never made anyone less gay".
#15 ME!
Fun light song. Every time I hear the song I do the UH hand to the forehead from the music video. The music video was so great and the cat surprise!!! ME! was her first opening single I've immediately loved since Mine. (While I've grown to appreciate WANEGBT, I thought it was a joke when I first heard it when she played it on her live stream party. I thought she'd be like "JK here's the real single". Again, don't do well with change). I didn't mind the hey kids part, and was actually disappointed it was removed from the album version.
Favorite lyrics: "I'm the only one of me / Let me keep you company-e-e-eh / Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh / You're the only one of you / Baby, that's the fun of you"
#14 London Boy
Fun song! Cool learning more about London, makes me want to go back! I thought it was clever.
Favorite lyrics: "He likes my American smile, like a child when our eyes meet / Darling, I fancy you" and "So I guess all the rumors are true / You know I love a London boy / Boy, I fancy you"
#13 Miss Americana
Love the sound of this song. The metaphor is also interesting (easy to relate to on either team. As someone whose team has always been loosing where I live this is very, very relatable). The song can be enjoyed regardless of the political metaphor.
Favorite lyrics: "American stories burning before me / I'm feeling helpless, the damsels are depressed / Boys will be boys then, where are the wise men? / Darling, I'm scared"
#12 It's Nice to Have a Friend
Cute sweet song, I love it! Great classic Taylor Swift story telling song writing. I like the continued theme of snow.
Favorite lyrics: "Church bells ring, carry me home / Rice on the ground looks like snow / Call my bluff, call you "Babe" / Have my back, yeah, every day / Feels like home, stay in bed / The whole weekend"
#11 I Forgot That You Existed
I love this song! It is upbeat and sends a good message. "It isn't love it isn't hate it's just indifference" hits the nail on the head when it comes to truly being over something. I really need to work on the whole "I forgot that you existed" thing as I tend to hold on to grudges and let them consume me. Can't wait for the peaceful and quiet.
Favorite lyrics: "Your name on my lips, tongue-tied / Free rent, living in my mind"
#10 Afterglow
I think I would like this song more if it was earlier on the album. By the time I get here, I'm so overwhelmed with good songs it is difficult to fully appreciate. It is the perfect song to go after ME! though. There are so many good lyrics in this song. The chorus and verses are so relatable.
Favorite lyrics: "I lived like an island, punished you with silence / Went off like sirens, just crying / Why'd I have to break what I love so much? / It's on your face, don't walk away, I need to say" and "I'm the one who burned us down / But it's not what I meant / Sorry that I hurt you / I don't wanna do, I don't wanna do this to you / I don't wanna lose, I don't wanna lose this with you"
#9 The Man
I honestly was expecting not to like this song. I was worried it would be ungrateful and just eye roll. But it was the opposite - the sound and the lyrics! Taylor is in a unique position where being a woman has helped her most of her career (no one would have played a male teenager writing songs like that on country radio). However, she certainly has been held to different standards as a woman. I like how the chorus is relatable to anyone and the verses are uniquely personal to Taylor. Taylor would be THE man.
Favorite lyrics: "I'm so sick of running as fast as I can / Wondering if I'd get there quicker if I was a man / And I'm so sick of them coming at me again / 'Cause if I was a man, then I'd be the man"
#8 Soon You'll Get Better
Wow. This song. I sobbed the first few times I heard it. (I still have to skip over it at work). We had to take a listening break after this one. The story telling and the small details.... Taylor, thank you for sharing such a personal song. I hope your mother gets better soon.
Favorite lyrics: "Holy orange bottles, each night, I pray to you / Desperate people find faith, so now I pray to Jesus too" and "And I hate to make this all about me / But who am I supposed to talk to? / What am I supposed to do / If there's no you?"
#7 Daylight
Such a perfect ending to a perfect album. What a great message. I really need to step into the daylight and let it go. I love this song so much, there are so many hidden gem lyrics in this one. Hard to pick favorites. Love being burning red to golden, great call back, even better lesson.
Favorite lyrics: "I don't wanna look at anything else now that I saw you / I don't wanna think of anything else now that I thought of you" and "I wounded the good and I trusted the wicked / Clearing the air, I breathed in the smoke" and "I once believed love would be (Burning red) / But it's golden / Like daylight"
#6 Paper Rings
I love this song so much! Great story telling, perfect details, and a great message. I immediately lovered it and it originally was in my top 3. Since then it's gone down a little I think because my love of slow songs is catching up to me, it is so SO hard to rank these top 6. This song is upbeat and happy. I just want to dance around. Especially that pre-chorus. Makes me want to marry my boyfriend with paper rings!
Favorite lyrics: "Went home and tried to stalk you on the internet / Now I've read all of the books beside your bed" (too cute, funny how things change!) and "I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings / Uh huh, that's right, you're the one I want".
#5 Lover
I simply LOVER this song! This song is everything I love about Taylor Swift. The story telling, the simplified arrangement of the song - I am so glad she went back to her roots on this song. A week or two after the album was released I went out to happy hour with some coworkers and this song was playing and my boyfriend walked in and I melted. Huge bonus that the music video is just perfect.
Favorite lyrics: "Can I go where you go? / Can we always be this close forever and ever?" and "My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue / All's well that ends well to end up with you"
#4 I Think He Knows
THIS SONG!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! Not a song I would usually expect to love this much but I do. Skipping around with this song in my head. Also, my boyfriend totally knows! I love the throw back to sparks fly and how she's driving.
Side note - When I sing this song I change attitude to cattitude. It's like gorgeous how I sing this song to my cats. I really want to make a parody version song about an animal shelter with cats.
Favorite lyrics: "I am an architect, I'm drawing up the plans / It's like I'm 17, nobody understands / No one understands" and "He got my heartbeat / Skipping down 16th Avenue / Got that, oh, I mean / Wanna see what's under that attitude like / I want you, bless my soul / And I ain't gotta tell him, I think he knows" and "Lyrical smile, indigo eyes, hand on my thigh / We can follow the sparks, I'll drive"
#3 Death By A Thousand Cuts
This song. Taylor proves that she can still write sad songs even when she's happy. Even though I'm happy, I still love sad songs. I cried the first time I heard this song, I don't think I could handle this song if my boyfriend and I ever broke up. There are so many great lyrics and details in this song. The traffic lights lyric is so desperate and tragic. I love this song so much. (This song goes back and forth between #2 and #3).
Favorite lyrics: "And what once was ours is no one's now / I see you everywhere, the only thing we share / Is this small town / You said it was a great love, one for the ages / But if the story's over, why am I still writing pages?" and "I look through the windows of this love / Even though we boarded them up / Chandelier's still flickering here / 'Cause I can't pretend it's okay when it's not" and "Quiet my fears with the touch of your hand / Paper cut stings from our paper-thin plans" and "I take the long way home / I ask the traffic lights if it'll be alright / They say, "I don't know"".
#2 Cornelia Street
This song is both heartbreaking and happy. I love it! The song writing on this is absolute perfection. Not going to lie, this one also made me cry the first time I heard it. The emotion behind this song is so raw and real - "kind of heartbreak time could never mend" just kills me. Continuation of her doubts from the archer and a peak through the years of this relationship. There's a happy ending but at the same time still worry. I need a stripped down version of this song. This song goes back and forth between #2 and #3.
Favorite lyrics: "We were a fresh page on the desk / Filling in the blanks as we go / As if the street lights pointed in an arrow head / Leading us home" and "And I hope I never lose you, hope it never ends / I'd never walk Cornelia Street again / That's the kinda heartbreak time could never mend" and "Years ago, we were just inside / Barefoot in the kitchen / Sacred new beginnings / That became my religion, listen".
#1 The Archer
The emotion behind this song is so raw and real. Taylor is letting us in to her deepest darkest self doubt. I love every single thing about this song. Every lyric just cuts right to the heart. I turn this song up every time so I can hear every detail masterfully woven into the song. The way she pleads "help me hold onto you" kills me. But what I love most about this song is that it ends on a positive note "you could stay" and she's ready to fight for this relationship. This song is my #2 or #3 favorite Taylor Swift song with All Too Well at #1 and I go back and forth on Clean being #2 or #3.
Favorite lyrics: all of them, but especially "I wake in the night / I pace like a ghost / The room is on fire / Invisible smoke / And all of my heroes / Die all alone / Help me hold on to you" and "I've been the archer / I've been the prey / Screaming, "Who could ever leave me darling... / But who could stay?""
Over all. I'd say a 13/10. I cannot wait for Loverfest West. And also, when does album #8 come out? Seriously though Taylor, thank you for these past 13 years. Your music has been there for me throw the end of middle school, high school, college, and now the real world. I cannot wait to see what is next for you.

“Hey! Did I miss anything?” Rob said and plopped down into his seat, his beer now completely saturated in condensation from sitting untouched.
“Nope,” Y/N said and leaned back in her chair, “Jay and I were just catching up. By the way, fun concert tonight. You boys rock out like that at every one of these conventions?”
“We do,” Rob smiled, “It's usually a really good time. You need to start coming to more of them, you fit right in up there. If you’re up for it, that is. I mean, you and Bri sounded amazing together. That should happen more. Right, Jensen? Maybe I should grab her and Bri, then we take this act on the road?” He wiggled his eyebrows and playfully draped an arm over Y/N’s shoulders, drawing her into his side.
Jensen opened his mouth to respond and the lights of the bar dimmed on and off, before settling into a hazy ambiance. The duo took to the stage again and picked up their instruments for another set of four songs. While they played, Y/N took out her phone and zoomed in to record them play. She took less than thirty seconds of video before tucking it away.
“What’s that for?” Rob leaned in and whispered.
“I’ve been taking videos and pictures of all the acts so far, to put them out on the social media accounts. The followers have been growing a lot. Hoping by the time the pre-sale starts next month, all the final acts will be in place and lots of tickets will go fast once they get a look at the line up and diversity of the acts.”
“Smart girl,” Rob mused before leaning back in his seat.
As their second set played on, they transitioned into a cover of Etta James’ Misty Blue. Y/N knew it almost instantly. It was one of those songs that immediately conjured up a memory and not necessarily ones that she wanted to have present. Her initial reaction was that she wouldn’t let the memories of the song hit her like a tidal wave. But by the time the first few lines were sung, she was already being pushed underwater.
“Do you guys want another round?” she asked in a hushed whisper, suddenly desperate to get up and move around.
“Sure, but I ca--”
She waved Rob to sit. “I’ll go.”
Y/N didn’t wait and left the table in a hurry, headed towards the bar. She wanted to leave the club completely, but it was just a song after all. She just needed a moment to herself and she would be able to push away the memories of her father playing it on repeat after her mother left. Y/N didn’t want to think about how he would sit on the couch, staring out of the window at the ocean, most liking wishing he was out on the sea, instead of in the house he had shared with the woman he loved.
Somewhere around the second chorus, Y/N had realized that she wasn’t standing alone at the end of the bar, Jensen now standing next to her, reaching out to take her hand.
“Hey, you ok?”
Y/N shook her head but then chuckled. “Yeah, I’m just being stupid.”
He watched her carefully and could see she was far from the truth. “What’s wrong? Something is clearly wrong.”
“It's the song. Just… reminds me of--”
“The ex?”
“No… not at all. My dad, actually.”
“Oh,” Jensen breathed and pulled out the stool next to her and guided her to sit.
He stood right at her side and motioned to the bartender to bring over another round. When he looked back down at her, he wanted to offer some kind of comfort but wasn’t sure where the boundaries had been set. “Do you wanna get out of here? We can take a walk, or…”
“No,” she replied again, but this time gazed up at him and was struck by how suddenly grateful she was that he was there. She didn’t talk to many people about her dad, yet she felt comfortable sharing things about him with Jensen. “The messed up part is I love the song. But after my mom left, he played it repeatedly for months. He and my brother would fight about it constantly. Then Dave started being home less often, then eventually took off for good. I mean, it wasn’t just the song, obviously. They butted heads over everything.”
“What about you?”Jensen asked, just as the beer was left for them on the bar top. “Did it bother you?”
“Not then, no. I knew it was what he needed to work through it. That’s just how my dad was. I learned from an early age that music was how he dealt with stuff. Whenever he had a problem or got hurt, felt angry he would go to music. He was a man of few words, but you always knew what kind of mood he was in by what was playing in the house.”
Y/N sighed at his memory, and as the song she both loved and hated came to an end, she felt Jensen rest his hand on the middle of her back, gently gliding his thumb back and forth over the fabric of her shirt. She liked the warmth and weight of it against her and silently hoped he stayed just where he was. It was inviting. Soothed her enough so as she sat in the dimly lit corner of Rosa’s Lounge, she felt ready to trust him a little more.
What’s the worst that could happen? She asked herself. I end up singing Joy to the World, right, daddy?
“One time, my brother had stormed out after dinner, so my dad sat out on the bench and killed a six-pack. He had this on repeat, of course. I remember going out there and sitting on the bench with him. I wanted to ask him so many questions, but I could tell he just wanted to sit quietly. Then he started to sing along with it. And I mean, his eyes closed, a few tears in his eyes, and just this look of pure anguish, you know? He was ripe for a country song to be written about him.”
“Oh yeah, I know the look,” Jensen said.
“It was one of the few times I’d seen him cry. He sang through a verse and a chorus and then finally remembered I was there.” Y/N stopped and drank her new beer, and felt his hand still there only now slowly working its way to the small of her back. “I guess over time I just realized that music could talk for those would didn’t have the words to express how they felt.”
Y/N felt like she was rambling on and bit her lip to stop talking. Taking a gulp of the beer, she felt a sense of relief when they came to the end of Misty Blue and picked up the melody of some old Muddy Waters tune.
“I never thought of it that way, but you’re right. That’s how it was for your dad?”
Y/N nodded. “Me too, actually. As you’ve experienced, I’m not a great communicator,” she chuckled nervously and raised her glass before taking a sip.
“Oh, I dunno,” he said with a slight shrug. “I think you’re doing just fine.”
Y/N turned her head to look at him. His features looked drawn and tired, but his eyes were alive with something she couldn’t quite place. Being close to him again, and not just in proximity, but opening up about things that were very personal to her satisfied a need she didn’t even realize she had. Though he looked weary, he looked happy.
“You look beat. You should have gone back to the hotel to sleep.”
“Trying to get rid of me?”
“Never.”
“Good. I mean you’re not wrong. I’m fucking beat. But I wanted to come out with you guys tonight. I really did miss having you around, Y/N.”
“I think we got what we needed. We can call it a night. You have another long day tomorrow, right?”
“Eh, I’ll be fine. I’m used to these schedules by now,” he waved her off and ran his fingers along the rim of his glass. “Besides, we were talking about you, not me.”
“I would rather talk about you. Are you sleeping enough? Traveling too much? Please tell me you’re not just gorging on Sow burgers and beer every day, are you?” she asked sternly, though Jensen could easily see through her facade and sarcasm. She was asking because she cared and wanted to know he was taking care of himself.
“Yes ma’am. I am well rested, hydrated, and have even been eating my veggies.” He was teasing her now.
“Don’t give me that look. Someone’s gotta make sure you’re taken care of.”
Jensen smiled and looked up through the bar, watched the blues duo play for a beat before turning back to Y/N. “That’s your job, is it?”
Y/N shrugged, then changed the subject. “You coming out with us tomorrow night, too?”
“Do you need me to?”
“No. Not necessarily.”
“Oh,” he sighed, the disappointment oozing from that single word.
“But… I’d like you to. You certainly make it more fun.”

* fly high [ solo ]
-- 🟊 busking! [ butterflies - queen naija ]
it’s been a long time since yohan has performed anything live. it’s been years, honestly -- and even when he did have an audience, it was when he was rapping. his singing hasn’t taken the spotlight since he was in high school, but that was mostly by choice. when singing, especially acoustically, it’s a lot harder to feign confidence when you’re not meandering around a stage with a hood pulled over your eyes, spitting some kind of self-aggrandizing bullshit too close to the microphone while cycling through 3 or 4 different hand gestures.
yohan thinks of rapping now as finding ways to put forth the illusion of being bigger, like someone’s projecting a giant hologram of himself on a screen in front of him. he’s watched rappers manage to have presence and power without seeming to fake anything, though -- he’s always been in awe of the people who can be themselves onstage and still command attention. there were times when he enjoyed being in the audience of underground rap shows more than actually performing, for this reason.
but he’s not in a dingy club. there’s no stage, no microphone. he’s not surrounded by the party-goers and soundcloud rappers like he used to be, either. here, tonight, it’s just him, a fold-able stool, a guitar.
that’s not to say that he’s alone here, though. there are strangers everywhere, blurry faces strolling past, walking fast if they’re headed somewhere or slow if they’re some of the people wandering through hongdae just to see the other buskers. just down the street, there’s a circle of people cheering on a dance group. yohan can’t hear it super well, but he thinks he hears the notes of exo’s love shot rising up from within the crowd.
as he presses his lips together and sets down his stool, he tries to hype himself up. just get through one song and you’ll feel better, but even his internal monologue sounds hollow. he already thinks he can feel a few sets of eyes on him, curious looks as he scootches his bum back onto the seat and lifts his guitar. they’re expecting something from him. but what? an entertaining performance? a beautiful voice? something memorable, something unique?
he wants to warn them. sorry in advance, y’all.
he swallows again, thickly this time, and his fingers take up the positions of the song that yohan has been idly practising out of boredom for the past few months.
I don't wanna fall so fast But I'm open They always say that good things never last And I know 'cause I've been broken
it’s an easy english song -- probably a safe choice for now. though there’s a bit of a drop within the first minute of the song, it remains gentle. the lyrics are soft, with a fairly simple, straight-forward meaning to them -- basically, it’s not really anything like the music yohan usually listens to. he came across it by chance when he accidentally selected it on spotify instead of travis scott’s butterfly effect and laziness led him to listen to the whole song instead of changing it. he was surprised at how much it made him... feel.
I'm tryin' to protect my heart But you're making it so hard And I guess it's safe to say You take my pain away
he sings it in a lower octave than the original’s singer, queen naija, did. there was some adjusting to do to make the key fit his range, but the natural husk to his voice suits the raspiness of the original. he continues the simple finger-strumming from the intro of the song, letting his eyes close and only opening them once in a while to stare at nothing in the distance. he tries to loosen his arms a little, to let the song take him away, and as he moves into the pre-chorus and prepares to play the full chord progression that he’s arranged for this part of the song, he finds that it’s working.
And I just wanna hold you all night long Whenever I'm around you, nothing's wrong I'm hoping that you'll always be around You got me on a high, I don't wanna come down
his voice weaves through the notes sweetly, incorporating just a tiny bit of the melisma and vibrato techniques that he’s tried to pick up over the years. he holds back just a little, stopping himself from trying to go too overboard out of fear of making himself sound unstable, or going offkey. his voice, previously a little breathly, grows louder for the chorus.
And I love it, I love it (these butterflies) Yeah I love it, I love it (I'm on a high) Yeah, I love it, I love it And I just wanna love on you (ooh)
obviously, he can’t overlap with his own voice live. he’s adjusted this part to suit his performance, skipping the second i love it, i love it line in favour of leaving a few strums of the chords there before coming back with i’m on a high and continuing on. instead of going back to the plucking, he switches to softly playing chords throughout the next verse, surprising himself with how emotional his voice manages to sound.
Ever since you crossed my path Everything is different You always know just how to make me laugh You got me all up in my feelings And as much as I love the feeling I hate it, it gets me frustrated Wanna say just how I feel But don't know how you would take it Why do you do what you do to me? Got me doing things that I don't do usually
whenever he sings this song, he can’t help but feel a little bit of an ache in his chest. it’s been a long-ass time since yohan has experienced butterflies, since he’s gotten to fall in love. he doesn’t want to look back on it, especially now that he can barely remember what it really felt like; it’s all been tainted by feelings of guilt and a sense of loss. it’s only when listening to songs like this, singing in such plain, yet effective words about new love and the unknown and the anxiety that comes with those things that he can almost feel it again, like the ghosts of butterflies start to flit around his stomach again.
a minute later, he’s finishing the song with a final, gentle downward strum that rings out. he hears a smattering of applause and looks up with wide eyes, having genuinely forgotten about the possibility of people watching him toward the last bit of the song.
he smiles with both his lips and his eyes, warmth in his stomach as he stands up and bows to the small crowd one, two, three times.
“thank you,” he says in korean, feeling just a tiny bit proud of himself. this wouldn’t look like much of a risk to people on the outside, but he feels like he’s just vaulted over one of the biggest hurdles in front of him.
though he feels like all he wants to do is lay on the ground and bask in his relief, he quickly packs up his guitar and picks up the stool, beginning his trek back to his apartment with the slight smile still on his face.

Deep Dive: All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You
One of our favorite karaoke go-to bands is the powerful Wilson sisters, Ann and Nancy of Heart. They have so many time-tested favorites that (to quote ourselves) bring a little bit metal/a little bit goth/hair drama to the mic. Alone, These Dreams, Barracuda...and this week’s deep dive, the somehow chart-topping “All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You.”
This is an awful song. Let’s explore the confusing/dangerous premise. A driver (Ann) picks up a hitchhiker, they have a night of passion in some random hotel (or is it random, see below), she gets pregnant, they bump into each other a year and a half later and she screams at him to run away.
Ann, set the scene for us.
“It was a rainy night when he came into sight
Standing by the road, no umbrella, no coat
So I pulled up alongside and I offered him a ride
He accepted with a smile so we drove for a while”
So many red flags! Where to begin. Well, first of all, Ann--WHY ARE YOU PICKING UP HITCHHIKERS? Is this a thing? Hitchhiker guy, why are you so ill-prepared for inclement weather? I have so many questions. But where is the hitchhiker going? Oh, it doesn’t matter, Ann has a different idea.
“I didn’t ask him his name
This lonely boy! in the rain!
Fate tell me it’s right
Is this love at first sight? [No?]
Please don’t make it wrong
Just stay for the night
(CHORUS!)
All I wanna do is make love to you
Say you will you want me too
All I wanna do is make love to you
I got lovin’ arms to hold on to
So we found this hotel, it was a place I knew well”
Wait, WHAT? Are you creepily driving around town looking hitchhiking men? Is that why the hotel is “a place I knew well”??? If so, why would you jump to the conclusion that this time it’s “love at first sight” with a “boy” (?!) whose name you’re not even going to ask. Is the desk clerk giving you a knowing nod and the keys to your favorite room? (237? Don’t go in that one, hitchhiker!) Then Ann proceeds to tell us ALL ABOUT what went down in the room. Gross.
“We made magic that night
Oh he did everything right
He brought the woman out of me, so many times, easily
And in the morning when he woke all I left him was a note
I told him I am the flower you are the seed
We walked in the garden we planted a tree”
Quick question: how did she know she was pregnant already, assuming that what “planting a tree” is referencing? Is Ann a sorceress?! (Ann Wilson being a sorceress is actually the most likely and least controversial theory that could possibly come out of this deep dive.)
She goes on:
“Don’t try to find me please don’t you dare
Just live in my memory! You’ll always be there!”
So presumptuous. This man just wanted a ride! Also, she makes a point of telling us that she didn’t ask him his name so it seems unlikely they exchanged contact info and he will be able to find her; this is 1990! Pre-internet stalking! Presumably he could just come back to the hotel she knows well and ask the desk clerk if she’s been back around recently, but again, seems like a stretch. Time for the extremely squicky bridge!
“Oooh, we made love
Love like strangers
All night long
Ooooooooo we maaaaaaaaade loooooove”
Well, you are strangers. This is a stranger you just picked up by the side of the road in your car.
Fast-forward to...I dunno, some future time and place. Judging from the video, it’s been perhaps a year and a half. I’m thinking the place is probably the grocery store? In the next aisle we have Dan Fogelberg and his old lover fumbling in the frozen foods and up at the front it’s The Waitresses checking out with a basket full of cranberry sauce. Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! SORRY. Getting off topic. Anyway, let’s let Ann tell us what happens next:
“Then it happened one day, we came round the same way
You can imagine his surprise when he saw his own eyes!”
She’s so casual. “We came round the same way.” Are they both living in a small town? If so, maybe she should have expanded her sperm donor search area. This isn’t a Big Chill scenario. I’m also not sure “surprise” is the best word choice for this particular encounter. I can imagine his shock, confusion, and anger conflating in a frantic mix of emotions, none of which is “surprise,” note about planting a tree notwithstanding. But, whatever. He saw his own eyes.
Then, adding to the emotional pile on, Ann screams at this undoubtedly gobsmacked stranger staring into his own eyes-but-in-a-baby’s face that she’s in love with another man but...they had trouble conceiving and so she decided to take matters into her own hands and find a hitchhiking sperm donor and just keep trying that method until it worked out? I appreciate anyone taking control of their sexuality and fertility, but this is wildly extreme.
“I said please, please understand!
I'm in love with another man!
And what he couldn't give me (woooaaaahhhhh)
was the one little thing that you can!”
So this song is terrible. We all agree. And do you know who else agrees? Ann and Nancy Wilson! AND THAT’S NOT ALL! This is not even the original version of this song! The original was recorded by Dobie Gray in 1979 and is (as Wikipedia helpfully summarizes) “a love song without a storyline.” It’s just a horned-up ode to “making love”--there is no bizarre story involving seducing a stranger in order to get pregnant because the man you love is infertile. Is this the only way a woman was able to sing about wanting a night of passion with no strings--adding the heftiest, most unbreakable strings imaginable to the encounter?! All we know is that sometime between 1979 and 1990, “Mutt” Lange (nothing good ever happens with Mutt, just ask Shania) decided it needed a rewrite, and here we are. Ann hates it so much that she devoted a section of the liner notes (remember those?) of their album The Road Home to decrying it. "Actually we had sworn off it because it kind of stood for everything we wanted to get away from. It was a song by "Mutt" Lange, who we liked, and it was originally written for Don Henley, but there was a lot of pressure on us to do the song at the time."
Ok, DON HENLEY was going to sing this?! How on earth would that have worked, with the whole surprise pregnancy scenario?! And, there was a lot of pressure?? Who, exactly, was pressuring you to do this weird hitchhiker casual sex but it’s ok because it’s for the sake of PROCREATION ballad? What the hell, Mutt?!
Best of all, in an interview with Dan Rather (!!!), Ann described the song as “hideous” and the lyrics as “problematic.” Ann, we totally agree! Why did you decide to perform this song in the first place? Tellingly, Ann and Nancy have dropped it completely from their set list, and have not performed it live in years. And in the end, it looks like Dan Rather got here first with his own version of a televised Deep Dive, but I’m ok with that. There are no new stories, after all.

A Labyrinth Dream
Chaos-and-the-calm67 (Bev’s 80’s Writing Challenge)
Prompt: Labyrinth
Pairing: Gabriel x Reader (Me)
Title: As the World Falls Down
Word Count: 2831
Warning: all the fluff
A/N: This was written for @chaos-and-the-calm67 80′s themed writing challenge. She wrote in the rules that this could be a you-insert fic instead of just a normal reader insert one. So I took that and made this. I hope you all like it. I used a lot of gifs in this. They helped tell the story.
It was just another day at the Bunker, nothing much to do when there wasn’t a case at hand. So what was Corrine to do then? Watch old movies. There was popcorn waiting on the table, movie was in the player, everything was perfect. Walking back from the kitchen with her drink in hand, Corrine thought there was something missing. Someone to watch movies with her. Sadly, Sam was on a run and Dean was working in the garage. So with a sigh, Corrine plopped down on the couch and pressed play on the remote.
“Heya Corrine! Whatcha watching?” Gabriel cried out as he jumped over the couch, landing beside Corrine, who jumped, startled by Gabe’s sudden appearance.
“Damn it Gabriel! Why must you always sneak up on me?” she demanded, exasperated at his antics.
He chuckled as he settled down beside her, throwing an arm around her shoulders. “Sorry doll, it’s just so much fun watching you jump.”
“Whatever. To answer your question, I’m about to watch the “Labyrinth”. Want to watch with me?”
“Are you kidding me?! Of course! I love this movie!” He practically jumped with excitement. “Does he really like this movie or is he just messing with me?” Corrine thought to herself as she smiled and restarted the movie.
Turns out Gabriel really did like the movie, adding commentary here and there with her. He even joined her in singing along to the songs.
“You remind me of the babe.
What babe?
Babe with the power.
What power?
Power of voodoo.
Who do?
You do.
Do what?
You remind me of the babe.”
They sang back and forth with “Magic Dance”, dancing around a little bit as they went. It turned out watching movies with Gabriel was actually really fun. Sam had returned from his run about an hour ago almost and when he heard the familiar sounds of David Bowie, well he had to check it out. Dean joined him and they shared a knowing smile as they watched Corrine and Gabriel dance around the room during the ballroom scene from the movie. It was actually (sickeningly) adorable. This girl was basically their sister and to see her happy was something they both wanted for her. The brothers left the two in the living room to themselves as they continued watching the movie.
By the end of the movie, Corrine felt sleepy as she curled into Gabriel’s side, her head pillowed on his chest. She almost missed how he stiffened and then relax as he wrapped his arm around her again, holding her close. Gabriel started humming to the tune of “As the World Falls Down”, watching as Corrine fought the draw of sleep, succumbing to its grasp as he sang the last line of the song.
“But I’ll be there for you-ou-ou
As the world falls down…”
*Dream Sequence*
Corrine felt herself waking up, unaware of her surroundings. There were sounds of gibberish and squeaks here and there. Blinking away the cobwebs from her eyes, she found herself in the middle of some maze. Slowly sitting up, she took in everything around her and if she wasn’t a little disoriented, she’d recognize where she was. The outer edge of the labyrinth, right before the castle beyond the goblin city. As Corrine stood up, she saw what she was wearing; it was Sarah’s dress from the ball scene from the movie!
“What’s going on here?” she thought out loud.
“You’re late for the ball, that’s what,” a snarky voice came from behind her.
She whirled around and didn’t see anyone at first, but then looked down and she couldn’t believe it!
“A-Are you Hoggle?”
The little goblin looked surprised, but waved it off, “I am. Now follow me and I’ll take to the castle. C'mon.” And he walked off, not even bothering to see if Corrine was following him or not. Rolling her eyes, she picked up her dress a bit and followed after Hoggle. He lead her into the castle, the door having been opened by Ludo. She couldn’t help the smile on her face as she heard Sir Didymus talking to Ambrosius over near one of the pillars in the castle. The farther in they went, the closer the music playing could be heard.
“Here we are. The ball is just beyond that door,” Hoggle gestured to the door at the end of the hall where two more goblins stood, waiting.
“Thank you, Hoggle,” Corrine said, placing a kiss on his cheek, leaving him flustered as she made her way to the door. The two goblins nodded to her and opened the doors. As she walked into the ballroom, she felt like Sarah when she walked into the same room in the movie. Only this wasn’t a movie set. It was an actual ballroom, people dancing and lounging around, laughing and having a good time. No one really seemed to notice her walk in late. They were in their own little worlds.
Corrine walked around, squeezing past people here and there, this feeling that she had to find someone was strong. Only she didn’t understand why. While she made her way through the crowds of dancers, someone was watching from the sidelines, a man with a goblin mask in his hand and honey eyes staring at her as she passed him. After a moment or two, she decided to stop searching and just found a seat somewhere amongst the other ball goers. Then the music changed. The melody familiar to her.
“There’s such a sad love,
Deep in your eyes.
A kind of pale jewel
Open and closed within your eyes.
I’ll place the sky
Within your eyes.”
Gabriel (Jareth) made his way over to Corrine, a smirk on his face when he saw her recognize the song playing. Standing in front of her, he lowered the mask, taking in the gasp that fell from her lips as he offered her his hand. A silent ask to dance.
Corrine found herself looking up at Jareth, the Goblin King, but something was different about him that the movie version. It was his eyes, but she couldn’t place it. Instead, she took his hand and he lead her through the dance.
“There’s such a fooled heart
Beatin’ so fast
In search of new dreams.
A love that will last
Within your heart.
I’ll place the moon
Within your heart.
As the pain sweeps through,
Makes no sense for you.
Every thrill is gone.
Wasn’t too much fun at all,
But I’ll be there for you-ou-ou
As the world falls down.”
Gabriel twirled Corrine around as the dance continued. He could see her trying to figure out what was different about the Jareth she was seeing. What he was showing her was an illusion, much like the Dr. Sexy image from the pre- apocalypse time. But she was having fun, so he spun her out and pulled her back in.
“I’ll paint you mornings of gold,
I’ll spin you Valentine evenings.
Though we’re strangers ‘til now,
We’re choosing the path
Between the stars.
I’ll leave my love
Between the stars.”
Corrine found herself getting lost in those honey colored eyes, they held such power that she didn’t notice the song nearing the end, nor that the two of them had danced their way towards one of the doors to the ballroom. They swayed in time to the song, Jareth singing the last chorus to her just like in the movie.
“As the pain sweeps through,
Makes no sense for you.
Every thrill is gone.
Wasn’t too much fun at all,
But I’ll be there for you-ou-ou
As the world falls down.”
With a final spin, Gabriel pulled away from Corrine, smirking at the look of confusion on her face as he backed out of the room, gesturing for her to follow him. The song had ended and Corrine snapped out of the trance she had fallen into and took after him. “Hey wait!”
Through corridors and down hallways she chased after him. The dress made it a little difficult, but she was determined. Corrine could hear his laughter ringing through the halls as she tried to catch up with Jareth. He took one last turn and she followed, coming to a stop in the M.C Escher Labyrinth room. Breathing heavily, she brushed some hair out of her face as she tried to find the man she followed all the way here.
“How you turn my world
You precious thing.
You starve and near exhaust me.”
She looked over the edge of a walkway and there was Jareth (Gabriel), upside down and staring at her. Corrine reached for him, but then he jumped and ended up on another walkway, sideways this time. Running over to that spot, or trying to, but he was gone when she got there.
“Everything I’ve done
I’ve done for you.
I move the stars for no one.”
Gabriel walked up behind her, seeming to walk through her, much to her amusement and confusion. What was going on? With a smirk, he flipped over the edge and the chase was on again. She gave a laugh as they played a messed up version of tag.
“You’ve run so long,
You’ve run so far.”
Just when Corrine thought she had him, Gabriel was in another spot, looking down at her as she tried to find him. A sad smile appeared on his face as he sang along to the song playing.
“Your eyes can be so cruel.
Just as I can be so cruel.”
That line was true. How can she find anything about him attractive, knowing what he did to Sam and Dean. How could she stand to be around him? She could tear him down with a single look and that’s when he remembered why he fell for her. She wasn’t afraid of him.
“Oh I do believe in you.
Yes I do.”
To be honest, Corrine was tired of running around, trying to catch Jareth. If that’s really who she was chasing. The dance was so much fun, but this, this room with all the twists and turns, she was starting to wonder if this was how Sarah felt when she finally got to the end of the Labyrinth.
“Live without your sunlight,
Love without you heartbeat.
I, I can’t live within you.
I can’t live within you.”
Gabriel brought them to the end of the scene, the room looking like it was falling apart and floating in space. Corrine looked around, trying to figure out what was going on when he stepped out from a corridor. She finally understood what was going on, or at least she thought she did. His outfit didn’t change; it was still the same one from the ball.
“I, I can’t live within you.”
“What’s going on here?” she asked bravely, staring at the man who looked like the Goblin King.
“My dear, what do you think is going on? I did this for you. All of this was for you,” Gabriel stated, sweeping an arm out, gesturing to the space around them.
“Who are you?”
“Crap. She’s on to me,” he thought to himself. But he placed a smirk on his face and turned the question around on her, “Who do you think I am?”
“You’re not Jareth, that much I can tell. You may look and talk like him. You may walk and act like him. But you’re not him. What to know how I know?” Corrine smirked at the impersonator, watched as his face fell slightly. She walked up to him, reaching out, but he stopped her.
“Wait! Look at what I can offer you. I can keep this dream alive. Every time you sleep, you’ll be back here, with me. Don’t you want that, Corrine?” He held out a crystal ball, much like the movie Jareth did for Sarah. He was grasping at straws now to be honest; Gabriel didn’t want her to find out the truth.
“As tempting as that may be, it wouldn’t be real. I loved this; it was amazing, but there’s someone waiting for me back home, even if he doesn’t know it himself. Now as I was saying…” she smiled, closing the distance between them. Gently, Corrine laid a hand upon Gabriel’s cheek, noticing how he instantly relaxed at her touch. “As real as this seems, it’s a trick. And I only have one answer for that. Jareth’s eyes aren’t honey colored. There’s only one person I know with those eyes. So tell me, what was with the Labyrinth dream, Gabriel?”
His facade shimmered away until it was just him standing there, in the same getup as Jareth. He gave a shy smile and chuckled a little. “Guess you caught me, huh?”
He couldn’t help the fuzzy feeling he got every time she laughed, like now. The way her body doubled over, her beautiful hazel eyes closed with little crinkles at the corners.
“Oh Gabe! This was the most fun I ever had! It was a dream come true, literally. But I got to know, why? Why go through all this trouble?”
He heaved a sigh, taking ahold of Corrine’s hand and walked over to a bench he materialized for them. The setting changed, instead of floating bricks and stairs, they were in a lovely garden behind the castle.
“You want to know the truth? I think I’m falling in love with you. And that scares me. You’re this amazing woman and hunter. You make me feel vulnerable. That terrifies me; I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. I just didn’t want to scare you if I told you the truth.”
Corrine took in everything Gabriel told her. She could see how true his words were, how raw the emotions he felt were. He just confessed to having fallen in love with her and she could only smile. If only he knew how she felt.
“Oh Gabriel. Why didn’t you say anything to me before? You want to know the truth? The person I mentioned was waiting for me back home, but he didn’t know it yet, that was you, Gabriel. It was always you,” she stated, laying her hand on top of Gabe’s beside her.
Turning to look her in the eyes, he could see the love, the adoration in her hazel eyes. How her sweet smile lit up her eyes. Closing his eyes, he breathed a sigh of relief before tugging her into his arms for a hug. They fit together like puzzle pieces; nothing felt more right than this. After a moment or two, they slowly parted, not before Gabriel placed a kiss on her forehead.
“Gabriel?”
“Yes, Corrine?”
“What’s going to happen when I wake up? Is this truly happening or is this a dream?” She regarded him with a closed off look. To which he returned with his signature smirk and little eyebrow wiggle.
“Well, you’ll just have to wait and see, won’t you sweetheart?” A quick, chaste kiss was placed upon her lips before everything went black.
*End of Dream*
Corrine slowly woke up, trying to reorient herself with the present. Everything about her dream felt so real, but she wasn’t certain. Sitting up, there were three things she noticed; one, they were still in the living room, the movie no longer playing. Two, Gabriel was still next to her, having fallen asleep as well, but now waking up. And three, they were wearing the ball outfits from her dream.
“So, still believe it was a dream?” he sassed, smirk evident as he pushed some hair from her face.
“You’re unbelievable, Gabriel,” she chuckled, leaning over to place a kiss to his lips. He tasted like caramel and she couldn’t get enough of him.
They parted, resting their foreheads together. Hands holding hands, thumbs rubbing against the backs of them. It felt natural, right.
“So, my Goblin King. What now?” Corrine asked, a smirk of her own playing on her lips.
“Only time will tell my Queen, but just remember, while it’s only forever, it’s not long at all. When you’re lost and lonely, I’ll be there for you. I’ve told you before, I’ll be there for you, as the world falls down.” Gabriel replied with a loving smile, caressing her cheek with a free hand.
“Well, it’s a good thing we have forever then, don’t we?” With that, Corrine placed a hand on the back of Gabriel’s head, drawing him to her again for a kiss. And if Sam and Dean happened to have walked by and saw them, well, they didn’t say a thing and just went on about their business. Two souls floating around the universe found each other, like magic they were drawn to one another. Forever may seem like, well forever, but let me tell you darling, it’s really not long at all.
“But I’ll be there for you-ou-ou
As the world falls down…”

Mitch Tennant’s Track-by-Track Guide to Head Noise’s Debut album, Über Fantastique
Mitch Tennant, singer/songwriter & keytarist with electro art-punks Head Noise, was kind enough to write this guide to the band’s recently released debut album Über Fantastique, especially for redsoapbox.
1. KINGDOM OF CROOKED MIRRORS
We had a lively debate at Head Noise HQ over which song to open the album with, either this track or the one that follows. We eventually decided on “Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors” to kick-start the debut as we think it encompasses all things Head Noise and has a great splattering of our influences in a catchy, oddball pop song. The title of the track comes from a 1963 Soviet fairy tale film and is loosely inspired by Lewis Carroll’s “Through the Looking Glass”. The song reflects our own mantra for creative passion and is also a look at an outsider’s perspective for abstract art and trying to make sense of the senseless. It’s like Alice In Wonderland without the drug references. Ignore the evils of the world and just let the childlike magic speak for itself.
2. 200,000 GALLONS OF OIL
I was on my lunch break one day surfing the web and a pop-up article came on-screen about fuel, oil refining and other industrial processes that I had very little interest in. However, the title of the piece “Pipeline Spills 200,000 Gallons of Oil” really jumped out at me. I wrote it down and put it aside with my collection of other alphabetical oddities that I type up on Notepad. A little while after, Wayne sent me an electropop demo with a bouncy, squelchy bassline which I felt matched up to this wording perfectly! The title of the song has some sort of political or eco-warrior ring to it but it’s always a surprise to people who question what the song is about, and we say “Uhh… It’s just about oil?” What kind of oil do you want it to be? I’ll leave that up to you, but here are some suggestions: vegetable oil, or maybe oil to slick back your hair.
3. JAPANESE BATTERIES
One Christmas, my partner gifted me an Otamatone, which is basically a screwed-up Theremin/Stylophone synth-like device that is in the shape of a musical note, however it looks more like a giant sperm! It’s become a popular instrument on Youtube for fashioning unusual sounding covers of songs, such as Boney M’s “Rasputin” and A-ha’s “Take on Me”. I was totally amazed by the packaging - it had a little Japanese man with fluffy hair, the inventor of the instrument, looking off into the distance, not unlike some surreal propaganda poster art. The song is, basically, a homage to this strange instrument, and it’s played on the track, not long after the first chorus, just to show off the unusual noises that it makes.
4. ANATOMICALLY CORRECT SHUFFLE
This is a song where I feel the bassline really helps to give the song a danceable bounce, that’s why the title of the track has “Shuffle” at the end of it. This is the first of the collaborations that we have on the album. Wayne sent me a demo he was working on with some bass being played by his friend “Monkey” (who I still haven’t met yet) under the working title “Monkey Jam”. When we started putting the album together, we were coming out of that mad scientist stage persona from the Microwave EP run of shows, so I had a whole lot of science stuck in my mind. I thought we’d go gung-ho as a farewell to the bygone days of false nerdy scholarship with a classic Head Noise sound to it. The lyrics for the song are like an amalgamation of a botched surgery, unusual ailments and chronic nightmares. Luckily, we have Brill onboard to give it that fun little jaunty undertone on the synth, to help keep us sane and avoid any potential lobotomies.
5. MYSTERY LIQUID
This is another Notepad scribble title that I just had to make into a song! When you hear songs about drinking, it’s usually either a fun affair (a drunken pub singalong) or a dark, cautionary tale (alcoholism), so we were looking to meet in the middle between jolly and sombre. I was influenced by Spike Jones & His City Slickers and their song “Clink! Clink! Another Drink”, especially for its humorous look at binge drinking from a 1940s perspective. It seems so harmless and funny, but it’s much more morally twisted if you look at it from the outside. With a bassline from our good friend Connor Llewellyn of Math Rock band “Common Spit”, the song turned into more of a fast-paced rocker with some added spoken word and Dada inspired lyrics from Cat Daczkowski who also plays in Rock band KASIA. I really liked her vocal style as it reminded me of Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth’s unique and unbothered singing approach, so we NEEDED it on the album somewhere.
6. AIRSTRIKE 4000
When I was young, I used to love my Sega Megadrive games console! I played games like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Desert Strike, but I got bored easily with Desert Strike because I wouldn’t always know what to do. I wanted to write lyrics that broke the fourth wall too, so the song starts out as a homage to a made-up Sega game in the style of Desert Strike. Then I get bored about halfway through and changed the theme of the song, just like when I was 8 years old and trying to play the bloody game before turning it off to play Sonic & Knuckles instead. It’s a Lo-fi retro Rock vs Synth song with some amazing guitar wobbles/shrieks from Brill and some wicked retro sounds darted across the duration of the track.
7. NITRO
When we were lucky enough to support “Public Service Broadcasting” last year at the Muni Arts Centre in Pontypridd, we wanted to go all out with a wacky elaborate stage show. We roped in our good friend Mark Strange to help us put together some surreal extras in the set such as a puppet show and a battle royale with Mark dressed up as a Ninja Turtle. We wanted to create our own little ‘introduction song’ for this show for when we walked onstage akin to Devo’s “Corporate Anthem” instrumental. So, Wayne put together our own track to help introduce the band as Mark walked out dressed in a lab-coat to inspect the equipment before we came on. There isn’t much else I can say about this track really other than performance is key! We decided to give the song a promotion from introduction song to intermission song which now sits about halfway through the album. In fact, that’s why it is called “Nitro”, it’s just an anagram of “intro” but with some dynamite flair!
8. SHRUNKEN HEAD
We used to open the live set with this song. It’s a song about idiocracy within the musical world, not too far off “Cherub Rock” by Smashing Pumpkins. The song is stacked with surreal imagery, which also includes a reworking of the “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream” phrase from Science Fiction writer Harlan Ellison as a pre-chorus. I think it’s important to have passion in what you do creatively, and you shouldn’t allow others to mistake that devotion for egotism. I went to “Ripley’s Believe it Or Not” oddity museum in Blackpool a couple of times over the years and I got to see a real (or ‘real fake’, you be the judge?) shrunken head in a glass case. Rhys Jones plays some cool guitar lines on this track which is like a mix between Egyptian rhumba and the live dissection of a squirrel. It is an interesting song and we like it very much.
9. INTRUDER-ESQUE
Have you ever had those nights when you’ve gone to bed and looked over at the other side of the room in the dark to see the blurred black outline of a wardrobe or a hanging coat? In a sleep-addled state, this can be terrifying and can lead to “sleep paralysis”. I thought it was an interesting subject to pick up on. We gave the outro to Lloyd Markham of Psych-Electro band Deep Hum to use as his personal synth playground and we love it! I think the entire track captures the vibe of uneasiness that you can get in a sleep-deprived state when you don’t entirely feel safe, with an unknown threat lurking in the shadows.
10. I EAT CANNIBALS
An old friend of mine said the Toto Coelo song “I Eat Cannibals” sounds like something Head Noise would cover, so we just went off and covered it. I think it goes a little hand in hand with “Shrunken Head” and its voodoo vibe. The track features fantastic backing vocals by Miss Cat Southall, singer extraordinaire! I’m a fan of bands who re-work covers to suit their own sound. We always have an unusual cover in our back pocket if things start to go pear-shaped! We’ve previously recorded songs by Sonic Youth and The Bangles.
11. MR. EVERYWHERE
This is a Rocker Wayne had been working on for a little while until we decided to give it more context and “beef” so to speak. It’s basically a punk song that’s been shaved down to a shouty rock song, with a little bit of synth here and there. The song’s lyrics simply reflect how busy we felt after we released the Special Effects EP and how being in a band can be a lot of stress as much as a lot of fun.
12. NO PHOTO | NO FILM | NO TELEPHONE
On a trip to Venice, I stopped by St Mark’s Basilica to see the famed “Horses of Saint Mark”. There was a sign near them saying “No Photo, No Film, No Telephone” which made me laugh. Anyway, the track was inspired by a warning sign, but is about the overuse of modern communication technology and the brief escape that we get from these devices. It’s crazy to see how much the world has changed in 20 years, so we summed it up quickly with a fully Electronic Pop song featuring a fun shout-a-long chorus.
13. COMPLY
Someone said to me recently “music has been intrinsically linked to politics since like forever!” and even though there is some truth in that statement, I refuse to believe that it is the most important reason for someone to enjoy listening to music. This is my own attack against people who like to moan and whine until they get what they want, whether it is logical or not. It’s our own protest song which protests protest songs. We’ve made sure the song is happy and upbeat, because ignorance is bliss, eh?
14. GAMMA GUTS
The spiritual successor to our single “Microwave”, in fact, it’s a loose sequel of sorts. I have a fear that there isn’t enough science behind the use of microwaves. I imagine that there are some harmful side effects, but it scares me to think that we might not have a clue. The song is split into two parts - the first is a goofy little Electro Rock song about the digestion of nuclear materials and then the second part is an electronic instrumental, orchestrated by the band Massa Circles. There are some beats donated by John Barnes and some shouts by Anthony Price too. The song reminds me of Eric Clapton’s “Layla” because it starts off as a fun Rocker and ends with an emotional instrumental akin to side 2 of David Bowie’s Low album. This is one of our favourite songs to play live at the moment because it gives us free rein to experiment musically.

Head Noise / Uber - Fantastique
For the best part of 18 months Aberdare’s Electro Art-Punks Head Noise (Mitch Tennant Vocals & Keytar), Wayne Basset (Synths & Guitar) and Jordan Brill (Synths & Guitar) have been working away on their debut album Über-Fantastique, a record which they describe, in typical Head Noise fashion, as a ‘bombastic, electropop fever dream’. In a detailed, track-by-track guide, Mitch Tennant talked to Kevin McGrath about the record they are about to unleash on an unsuspecting Welsh public.
1. KINGDOM OF CROOKED MIRRORS

On a trip to Venice, I stopped by St Mark's Basilica to see the famed “Horses of Saint Mark”.

[FAN REPORT] SEVENTEEN DIAMOND EDGE WORLD TOUR IN SAITAMA 07/27/17
So!! This is my 3rd time seeing Seventeen!! (First two were last year's fanmeet in the Philippines! Check out my fan report about those 2 days if you haven't yet!) I was able to win in the general sale lottery for this concert!
Pre-con: so it was my last day of school and right after my last final exam, I went straight to Saitama to buy my goods! I bought everything I wanted in less than an hour! Then I just waited at the nearby Starbucks HAHA
Seat: Fast forward to getting in the arena! So yeah, since I won this in the general sale lottery, my seat was pretty far like 4th floor far...but it was in the center so like yay! And I actually didn't mind cause I'm seeing them again on October in the Philippines and it'll be so much closer! Hehe ANYWAY!
*NOT 100% everything and NOT 100% sure now because I finished writing this after a few days lol
*If I don't say much on a song, it means they just sang it normally (amazingly) and nothing else really happened*
So the first video was just showing the members one by one haha then after, the first one to appear was Jun!! I can't believe I finally saw him!! Purple hair suits him omg!!! Then like one by one members started to appear from all over the place! Some came riding carts and like some rode scooters! It was awesome hahah I saw Minghao for the first time too and booooyyyyy! I'm super happy I finally saw them! (They weren't in the ph fanmeet) Then yeah, they were just walking around on stage and just greeting everyone.
First song was Pretty U! It was a different version like hmmm carnival version? But yeah the feels of a carnival maybe hahah And they altered the dance for it too! HAHHA It was cute! but like after awhile I think it went back to the original version AHHAHAH One thing I definitely remember from this song is that Seventeen is sooooo extra I swear HAHAHA Like they just kept making noises once in a while like "let's go!" or "oooh!" hahahah Love them! Also their costumes were so colorful AHHAHAHAHA
Next song was Beautiful! AND OMG CAN I JUST SAY BOO'S VOICE LIKE OMG I LOVE HIM! Like I already heard everyone's voices (except Jun's and Minghao's) last year but like OMG THIS SONG, EVERYONE WAS PERFECT AND ESPECIALLY BOO! LIKE HIS VOICE IN THE CHORUS WHEN HE SAYS PARADISE IS SO BEAUTIFUL! AND JIHOON'S VOICE TOO WHEN SAYING "MY LIFE IS SO BEAUTIFUL" AND HOSHI'S VOICE IN "NAEGA NEGE NAEGA OH NAEGA NEGE NAEGA" T^T everyone's voice was just really beautiful huhuhu
Next was the debut song, Adore U!! So much love for the debut song! But I think they just performed it normally with of course Seventeen being so extra and noisy again hahaha OH! And before the "akkinda" part they said "いっしょに”(Together) <3
Next, seventeen introduced themselves! From what I remembered from this part hmmmm I remember Seventeen trying so hard to talk in Japanese and I love it HAHHAHA They talked about the venue, Carats, and sang a bit of Hip Hop Team's Can't See The End and I have no idea why but I love it cause Vernon tried singing it and nope HAHAHAHAHA But yeah some introductions I remembered were ummm (not in order because I forgot who went first) Wonwoo did his cheeseburger aegyo (forever my fave please hahaha), Hoshi has an 王子様(Prince) chant (so funny cause everyone was cheering it hahaha) and Hoshi also did the 10:10 in Japanese <3 I also remembered Jun's "ジュン備"(Jun-bi, it means preparation) and Boo introducing himself as アンパンマン(Anpanman) HAHAHA and like from their individual introductions, I think the most popular memeber in Japan is Jun HAHAH And they kept calling us Carat-chan T^T <3 hmmmm I also remembered them teaching us like some cheer? I don't know what was happening actually AHAHAH but yeah when they shout 17 Carat, we were supposed to clap and bend our hands to the right and say something which I didn't really understand what XD HAHAH
Next song was Still Lonely with all 13 of them singing this song!
Next was Aju Nice!!! Seeing this live with ALL 13 of them omg T^T JUN IN THE MIDDLE I LOVED IT!!! They sang an extra chorus at the end too!~
NEXT WAS PERFORMANCE TEAM SWIMMING FOOL AND OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I WAS SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS ONE CAUSE I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH!! Like the choreography for this wasn't as powerful as their other songs but it was so smooth!! I actually loved it!! It was sooooooo awesome seeing this live!! And I loved the Carat's echoing the song <3 We have beautiful voices (lol omg sorry) So yeah! AWESOME CHOREOGRAPHY, AWESOME SONG, AWESOME PERFORMANCE!!
Next was another video! They showed like pre-debut pictures of Seventeen and they were all soooo cute!!!! OMG! Like all of them had so cute pictures ><
Next was Mansae! One of my favorite title songs (one reason is cause Wonwoo got decent rap lines here) <3 So this was super fun! Like at the start they had like classroom tables and were "students" and Seokmin was so funny cause I think he was the teacher? or at least someone who's writing on the board hahah And yeah he was so funny cause he was like "no one's listening to me!" HAHAH and he kept on making a face to the other members hahah then the very end Mansae part like I think it was Hoshi was the one who said that we should all do the Mansae part with the hand up in the air hahah yeah we did that for a few times before they ended the song!
Next song is Boom Boom!! And so like it's my first time seeing this live and AAAAAHHHH LOVED IT!! Good thing their "school uniforms" from Mansae had like a jersey shirt? So yeah they were able to do the move they do with the jackets normally HAHAH I realised my explanation might have been a bit confusing lol HAHAHA But yeah! Great stage! Glad to have seen the choreography live <3
Next was the special talking part and I'M SUPER HAPPY WONWOO WAS THE ONE HERE!!!!! Like I heard in the first day it was Chan and Boo? And I was hoping for Wonwoo and GUYS IT WAS WONWOO!!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH I CRY T^T HUHUHU so yeah, he was the one in this special talk segment, and he was with Seungcheol! They were filming for Going Seventeen too!! So yeah the things they were talking about (not in order, I forgot already hahah and I might have missed a few stuff) hmm well first thing I remember is that they wanted to hear our voices so they asked us to sing Lean On Me so like Wonwoo sang LIVE the first part and GUYS I WAS LIKE TAKE MY SOUL PLEASE TAKE IT ALREADY IT'S YOURS and then like when we were singing the continuation omg guys it was beautiful! Like the voices of Carats were really something! Then Seungcheol was like ドキドキ(DokiDoki) and Wonwoo said that it's the first time he heard Seungcheol say stuff like that hahaha then they both said it together hahahah CUTIES! Hmm OH! I also remembered like Seungcheol tried Hoshi's "あつい"(Hot) hahaha I didn't know Hoshi made something like that but yeah that appeared a lot in the concert later on HAHAH basically Hoshi is saying the word with like a high pitch voice I guess? And it comes together with hand movement like picking something? HAHAH Sorry for my bad explanation OH ONE LAST THING THAT I REMEMBERED! Seungcheol said that Wonwoo was the most handsome among the Seventeen members and Wonwoo said that Seungcheol was the number one for him HAHAHA I REPEAT, CUTIES!!
Next was another video and it was the Vocal Team's video!!! So it had a like mysterious vibe to it? But yeah basically just showing the members
Next song was We Gonna Make It Shine!! And omg I loved this pre-debut song!!! I loved it with Hoshi before but like I also LOVE THIS VERSION TOO! So basically during this whole Vocal Team corner, I had goosebumps almost the entire time for like 4 songs! THEIR VOICES ARE PERFECTION HOW EVEN <3
Next was Don't Listen In Secret and OMG It started with like a vampire vibe? Like the intro had like a bery noticeable organ instrument and omg just chills because their voices are so perfect! To add to the vampire vibe, there were like bats and big black gates showing on the screen and like I remember Seokmin sitting on a red chair and Jihoon's mic had like a red cloth with it? yeah super vampire vibes and IT WAS AWESOME
Next they had a little talking corner and they were just talking about their feelings of their songs and their concerts and they also talked about Jihoon's mic ahahha (they made him dance with it too lol) and when he (forgot who >< either Seokmin or Boo) was introducing the next song, he was saying that Jisoo, Jihoon and Jeonghan will rest first. Then Jeonghan was STRONGLY against it! HAHAHHA He left the stage very disappointed HAHAH So yeah, they were introducing the next song and like I think this is the part where the translator was sooo cute hahah She was copying even the tones of the sentences Seokmin and Boo were making and Boo was having fun with it hahahah anyway so yeah, we all know the next song and like DUH IT'S (ONE OF THEIR) BEST SONGS EVER!
SAY YES!!! OMG I remember hearing this live in their fan meet last year in the Philippines and I cried! Like omg I can't ever listen to this song without crying anymore huhu Soo yeah as like the previous year, I had goosebumps and was closing my eyes almost the entire time and I just really love thier voices! AND OMG They had new voicing in a part of the song and BEAUTIFUL HUHUHU I can't believe their real T^T
Next song was the final Vocal Team's song and AAAHHH IT WAS 20!!!!! LIKE AAAHH MY FAVORITE VOCAL TEAM SONG!! Like when I heard the intro I screamed so loud! And like omg HUHUHU IT WAS A JAPANESE VERSION OMG JUST TAKE MY HEART DAMMIT HUHUHU THANK YOU VOCAL TEAM I LOVED IT HUHU like I think I kind of lost it when Jisoo sang いつまでも HAHAHHA ALSO I wanted to mention the lights! The pink lights really suited this song T^T Like the whole time it was just pink and it was beautiful T^T
So yeah next video was Hip Hop Unit's video and like phew it was so mysterious and serious and dark (and sexy omg HAHAHA) and after, like a guy with a weird like joker mask and like it was creepy tbh HAHAHHA and like the background music was creeepppyy af and there were laughing sounds and the joker was just laughing...yeah it was creepy... then like there was a piano on the main stage and the guy just went over to it and started playing it (not sure if he was really playing it or if it was just a recording though) and like suddenly someone was rapping! AND LIKE DUH I WOULD RECOGNIZE WONWOO'S VOICE! AND AAHH HE RAPS PERFECTLY! Then like omg the guy took of his mask and it was Wonwoo... SO ASHAMED OF MYSELF THAT I DID NOT RECOGNIZED HIM OMG WHY HUHUHU (it was really creepy af though, will I see this again in October?)
So yeah the song after Wonwoo took off his mask was an unreleased song and DAAAAAAMNNNN THEY NEED TO RELEASE IT FAST CAUSE BRUH THAT SHIT CRAY! IT WAS SO AWESOME I NEED IT IN MY LIFE! I assume that the title is What's The Problem? cause those words appeared in the screen when they started rapping. So first one was Seungcheol and like bruh BRUUUH!!!!! ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL RAPS DAYUMMMMM Next one was Mingyu and boiiiii He's so classy af like I can't believe someone can rap with class and swag phew last one was Vernon and his rap was kinda different from everyone else's like it was slower and like more chill? but Yeah... Like they were all basically just being wild on stage and like they were running around and head banging and all that and damn it was lit. Like no words! Seungcheol killed this stage for me cause boy was that lit! (Sorry Wonwoo huhu might've been better if you rapped it live huhu)
Next was Lotto!!! And they performed a remix version! Like maybe rock version? And like there was a Meanie moment here if I remembered right? Like omg when Mingyu was rapping and like Wonwoo would be there in front of his face and just "bro kill it!" And yeah the whole stage was just so powerful! Lit as usual <3
Next was the recently released (in their soundcloud) Un Heang Il Chi! A little less powerful than What's The Problem and Lotto but like still powerful nonetheless! I especially love it cause like I was just bobbing my head the whole time and like it was really lit I can't even AHAHHA (Loved Wonwoo's part here the most)
Then next was their talking segment and one thing I clearly remember from this is when they asked how was their stage (cause it's different from their usual stages as seventeen) and I was like bruh, I could live with just these stages!!! (not really but that's what I felt during that time, that's why I remember it lol) so yeah hmm what else....omg I don't remember anymore >< SORRY OMG
Next song was Check-in and YEAH~ I LOVE THIS CAUSE THEY MENTION MY CITY!!! So yeah when they were in the first chorus I was waiting for them to say Manila City and when they did I shouted it with them and the person next to me looked at me weirdly AHHAHAHA oh well, I'll be gone from here in a month HAHAH ANYWAY~ Yeah so they were pretty chill with this HAHAHA but still lit, phew~ and like whenever the beats drops! LOVE THAT PART
Another video was next and this time it's the Performance Team!!!! And like the video had a kind of a different vibe? Like while the others were kind of dark, this was kind of bright? I guess that it was cause like the members were like in this square space surrounded by lights?....yeah....
SO! NEXT SONG WAS OMG AND OMG GUYS IT WAS LIT!! IT WAS A REMIX VERSION AND LIKE THEY APPEARED IN LIKE INDIVIDUAL RISING STAGES AND HAD MIC STANDS SO LIKE INSTEAD OF DANCING THE CHOREOGRAPHY, THEY WERE KILLING IT JUST WITH THIS REMIX! IT WAS AWESOME! LIKE OMG WITH THE VOCAL UNIT, I HAD GOOSEBUMPS THE ENTIRE CORNER. WITH THE HIP HOP UNIT, I WAS HEADBANGING/BOBBING THE WHOLE TIME. AND NOW WITH THE PERFORMANCE UNIT, GUYS I DIDN'T NOTICE IT UNTIL THE TALKING PART BUT HAD MY MOUTH HANGING WIDE OPEN THE WHOLE UNIT SONGS!! Like their performances WERE SO DAMN GOOD!!!
Straight after OMG, they had this like break dance part! First was Jun and then Minghao, then Hoshi and all of them are so talented like I still think they are the most underrated unit and they need more time to show all their talents! THEN LASTLY OMG CHAN! Chan killed it! I'm sorry Hoshi but seriously Chan could be so much more!!!
Then after, they sang Who and like.....I can't believe I saw this live. Like I swear I had my mouth wide open like..... bro this level of sexiness should stop (no just continue please) I can't really explain it guys, I can't T^T
Next they showed another video but this time it was just Jun and Minghao! omg I'm so happy they are getting lots of things!! and then like BAM MY I!!!! OMG T^T They danced with a rope and like there were hand holding and like just CHINA LINE NEEDS LOVE GUYS!!! And omg like there was a part where Jun did this flip and his clothes just totally betrayed him and exposed his upper body and like BRRUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH! I can't with this unit T^T (Again no words...just mouth wide open)
So next was their talking part and so like Chan and Hoshi appeared on stage while singing the MY I part and so cute huhuhuh but yeah, here we go again...what do I remember from this segment.....hmm I think someone got wrong with the greeting but like I forgot who... omg cry this is why I need to finish writing my fanreports after the concert huhuhu anyway hmmmm, OH! okay so like Hoshi did his "あつい" a lot in this segment with the hand movement HAHAHAH and kept pushing us to do it too XD OH! and Minghao kept saying "叫べ!" (Scream) hahaha that's all I can remember huhu
Finally, to end the unit corners, THEY SANG HIGHLIGHT AND AAAAAHHHH MY FAVORITE PERFORMANCE TEAM SONG!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE I SAW THIS LIVE WITH ALL ITS GLORY AND CHOREOGRAPHY and like I thought it was the normal song but like damn they added some extra dance before the final Highlight and it WAS. AMAZING. GOSH. LIKE. (yeah no words.....)
So next was another video and this time and I couldn't really tell what was happening cause like everyone was just doing their own thing and like...yeah nothing much to say here except they were all so cool <3 and yeah another dark concept if I remember correctly....
Then like the sound of the video transitions well with the next song with waaaas CRAZY IN LOVE!!! And can I just say AHHAH after the unit performances, then going to Crazy in Love, I really feel that 13 members Seventeen is complete! Like looking back at the unit performances, the stage looks so incomplete T^T But yeah OT13 is the best <3 ANYWAY, back to the song! They just performed it normally and I saw the CHOREOGRAPHY!! AAAAHHHH The Crazy in Love parts and like the dabs and all AAAAHHH
Next song was like suddenly there was acoustic guitar sounds and then Wonwoo sings the first line to Fast Pace and AAAAAHHHHHH SLAY ME BOY And they had like mic stands and like STOP PLEASE AND TAKE MY SOUL and like OMG THE "GOING, WE'RE GOING" PARTS HUHUHU JUST KILL ME ALREADY but like yeah, the whole performance was soooooooooooooo...nice HAHAHAH
Okay so next was IF I!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHH like bruuuh this song!!!! Vernon was sooo good! and Wonwoo and like bruhh EVERYONE WAS AWESOME!!! And like the Hip Hop Team corner, I was just bobbing my head with the beat~ and like I was hoping that they'd have a dance after the very lit "nan mworado do" but like no :( They were only head banging and stuff but like WHEN WONWOO SAID HIS "geureotamyeon do" AAAHHHHH THEY DID HAVE A DANCE!!!! AND I LOVED IT!!! IT WAS A VERY COOL DANCE AND LIKE I HATED THAT THEY DIDN'T PERFORM THIS THE ENTIRE SONG HUHUHUHU but yeah T^T
So next song is Habit/Habitual Words and of course the Vocal Team's voices are on point/perfection <3 Like from time to time I just catch myself closing my eyes (if you read my previous fan report, you'd know why) so yeah <3
Next they had another talking corner and like the Vocal Team disappeared off stage and like the Hip Hop Team and Performance Team (ALL OF THEM WEARING RED AND BLACK DAMN PERFECTION) came on stage and they (Hoshi started it, if I remember) went on stage singing the chorus of Habit and like the rest followed HAHAHAH and like they sang a short part of If I and Swimming Fool too HAHAHA See what I mean about this group being so extra HAHAHAHAHA and like when we didn't echo the chorus part they wanted us to do it properly so they repeated it and HAHAHAH WONWOO IS SO CUTE GUYS I LOVE HIM SO MUCH CAN HE NOT HAHAH He sang his geureotamyeon do part and like he was expecting us to sing the instrumental that comes after it but of course we didn't so like HE WAS SUCH A FAIL I LOVE IT HUHUHUHUHU I LOVE HIM! Then I think it was Chan but he sang the "oh my god oh my god" and like us Carats were just making random noises now at this point HAHAHAHHA but yeah it was funny HAHAHA but yeah let's see what I can remember in this talking segment..... I think this happened before the Vocal Team came (also wearing red and black) but like Hoshi was mimicking Seungcheol and he WAS SO CUTE LIKE HIS EXPRESSION TOO AAAAHH and like Seungcheol also copied Hoshi and it was so cute HUHUHUHUHUHU then when the vocal team arrived hahah SVT did the thing they did earlier and sang the chorus of Habit AHHAHA and this they they made "bam" sounds HAHAHA SUPER FUNNY!! OH OMG HOSHI DID LIKE A HURRICANE MOVE AND LIKE AAAAHHHH I WANTED TO SEE HURRICANE LIVE HUHUHU BUT WHEN HE DID THAT IT WAS SO FUNNY CAUSE MINGYU LIKE WENT ROUND AND ROUND HOSHI (bird style? I guess?) AND LIKE 3 OTHER MEMBERS FOLLOWED HAHAHAH IT WAS SO CUTE!!! heheh <3 then what else..... OH!!! THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS A SPECIAL GUEST TODAY AND TURNS OUT IT WAS BOOEMI HAHAHAH (Boo trying to copy Buruzon Chiemi, a comedian who recently became famous here in Japan) IT WAS SUPER FUNNY!!! LIKE BOO CAN TOTALLY BE BOOEMI HAHAHAHAHAHHA HE'S SO GOOD AT IT! Caratに生まれて良かった!(Chiemi has a similar line saying how good it was to be born a woman) HAHAHA And like when the music would play, the other members would move to it too just like how Chiemi would do it HAHAH SUPER FUNNY and like Chiemi has this 35億 (3billion) and like Boo did 3万人 meaning 30,000 people, like the people in the arena. HAHAH It was super funny!!! Then he did it again but like this time he prepared the whole Buruzon Chiemi skit hahaha but like he just introduced Seventeen hahaha and it was so fab cause HE DID IT SO PERFECTLY HAHAHAHHA and like the other members were like his "with B" HAHAHAHA then what else hmmmm OH! HAHAH I REMEMBER A LOT OF "あつい" again HAHAH cause they were saying the next stages were gonna be really hot HAHAHAH
Soooo next song was HAHAHHA ROCK!!! NEVER GONNA GET TIRED OF THIS SONG <3 Like those body waves/rolls and like everything about this song! <3 And like instead of the wild chorus after the bridge, they had a like dance break first! IT WAS AWESOME AND LIKE THEY WERE SO SYNCHRONIZED AND THEN THE LAST CHORUS WAS SO LIT AND DIFFERENT AND SO AWESOMELY PUT TOGETHER
NEXT SONG WAS CHUCK AAAAHHH! Loved seeing this again but like they performed it just normally HAHAH but like there were
And then just before the final song, they had another talking part and like saying how hot those two songs were and like they were already saying their goodbyes and like to introduce their next song, Vernon was "crying" and it was so cute cause he was with Minghao for support huhuh but like yeah he was like "ulgo shipji aneun de" huhuhu and like they were saying Hoshi was crying too but like no Hoshi said it was sweat HAHAHHAHA So yeah they said thier Say the name SEVENTEEN then went on to perform Don't Wanna Cry
Don't Wanna Cry had the perfect introduction ever T^T like it was so full of emotions and like I started tearing up again and like lost it when Wonwoo started to sing (so ironic that I cried though HAHAHA) I was looking forward to this stage the most T^T and they did not disappoint T^T It was everything I ever imagined it! They were perfect, the choreography on point, the vocals, EVERYTHING! After Seungcheol's rap, I stopped crying though but when it was the bridge, daaaammmnn waterworks started running again T^T PERFECT ENDING (Before the encore of course)
When they left the stage, it took awhile for them to like show what's next. So like the next thing that happened was another video! It was a video of like interviewing Seventeen and who are Carats for them and what was annoying was that the subtitles were so small that I had no idea what they were saying at all T^T So yeah something to look forward to when I watch them in October! So yeah they were writing letters to Carats, which I thought would be really touching if I understood it but yeah, just looking at them pouring their hearts out with their letters T^T <3 It was touching~ and OMG WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING EVERYONE IN THE ENTIRE ARENA TURNED THEIR LIGHTSTICK INTO THE FAST BLINKING MODE AND LIKE SERIOUSLY IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! WE WERE LITERALLY SHINING DIAMONDS IT WAS BREATHTAKING!
Then there were like a few seconds of silence then we hear Jun's "Slip into the Diamond Life" whisper at the start of Shining Diamond and yeah everyone started getting hyped again cause Shining Diamond is our baby~ HAHAHA
Then next song was Healing!!! BUT JAPANESE VERSION!!!!! LIKE BRUH I WAS SO SHOOKT LIKE BRUUUHHHH!!! The rap parts weren't Japanese though but it's fine cause I HEARD MINGHAO RAP HIS PART <3 THIS SONG WAS SO MUCH FUN GUYS HUHUHU THEY NEED TO MAKE A JAPANESE DEBUT ALREADY T^T
Then the very last song was Love Letter and guess what T^T JAPANESE VERSION TOO HUHUHUHU JUST TAKE MY HEART AND SOUL DAMMIT T^T I MEAN EVEN THE RAP FOR THIS WAS TRANSLATED TO JAPANESE T^T <3 So much feels for this song and like guys guess what huhu I cried again T^T I mean whyyyy Seventeen stop making me feel all these emotions T^T and like guys T^T WONWOO'S LINE IN THE BRIDGE T^T IT WAS IN JAPANESE (DUH) AND LIKE IT WAS SO PERFECT HEARING MY BBY'S VOICE LIVE AND OMG GUYS WONWOO LAUGHED AT THE END OF HIS LINE CAUSE HOSHI WAS THERE STARING AT HIM WHILE MAKING A FACE AND WHEN WONWOO LOOKED, HE LAUGHED OMG MY 2 BIASES CAN JUST BE LIKE THAT FOREVER AND I WILL LIVE HUHUHUHu it was so awesome guys, I can't even put it into words properly T^T
And the concert was coming to an end T^T They were all saying their goodbyes now and like I didn't want it to end T^T there's nothing much I remember from this goodbye except for their "goodbye", "I love you", "we'll keep on working harder", "thank you" and I love their effort to speak Japanese T^T Especially Chan! I think he was the only one who didn't use Korean for his goodbye! One thing I remembered apart from their goodbyes were Hoshi Sushi XD HAHHA THAT WAS SUPER CUTE like they had towels and I think it was Seokmin who put the towel over Hoshi's head and said that he was a sushi HAHAH LOVE IT and then like Mingyu just put his towel on Hoshi hahah another one was Seokmin hahah Hoshi did the same thing to him and made him a sushi T^T <3 I love his smile I swear! Looking back at last year when I saw his smile up close when we took a picture together T^T IT WAS SO PURE AND LOVELY HUHUHU cries like Seventeen is such a big group and I can't handle all the feels they're making me feel all together all at once and continuously one member after another T^T OH! I also remember Hoshi calling us Princesses cause he's the prince HAHAHAHHA I remembered getting "kilig" (I'm sorry I don't know the English word for this Filipino word) hahaha then hmmm oh they closed the lights so our blinking bongbongies can be seen clearly and yeah they loved it, cause guys it really was so pretty and special! So yeah, they thanked the staff for all their hard work and then we took a picture together! (Which, duh I won't be seen) cry HAHAHA and they just kept on saying how pretty we were (wow HAHAH) and that was that! They said their final goodbyes going to each side of the stage and their final Say the Name SEVENTEEN and that was that!
THAT'S IT GUYS!! MY THIRD TIME SEEING SEVENTEEN BUT MY FIRST CONCERT FROM THEM! (Since the other 2 were fanmeetings)
For some general reports: -first and foremost! I am super sad they didn't sing Fronting T^T Like they sang my favorite Seventeen song (Love Letter), my favorite Vocal Team song (20), and my favorite Performance Team song (Highlight) T^T How I wished they sang Fronting too huhuhuu Oh and wished they sang Smile Flower too T^T (actually all the songs they didn't sing, I wish they sang lol) - I don't say this enough but Seventeen is sooooo extra af HAHAHAHAH as in every song they had extra sounds coming out of their mouths one way or another XD I loved that they were having so much fun and like it was nice to see them genuinely enjoying themselves <3 like they were preforming but it was awesome to see them loving what they do!! - their voices live is perfection!! I mean I've heard them before but it will always be a pleasant surprise to me just how beautiful their voices are! Boo though was especially chiiling <3 -And like one thing you know why they're really talented and like have beautiful voices is that they kept singing during the talking segments HAHAHA like they just wanna sing HAHAHAH -hair color was sooo colorful hahaha but it suits them so much! Like when I saw pictures before, I was a bit iffy but nope, it suits them AHHAHA -lights were amazing and the fire was lit!!!! -the clothes of everyone during the unit segments were all black and they were all so good looking omg like please always wear black >< -I was a bit of disappointed with Wonwoo last year during the fanmeet (check my previous reports about that to know why) but I'm totally happy with him now! Like SEEING HIM SMILE LIKE THAT AND THAT NOSE OF HIS I LOVE IT I LOVE HIM T^T -NOW TO GIVE APPRECIATION TO ALL MEMBERS: Jeonghan - his hair was sooo pretty T^T and his voice was really good!!, Vernon - he was really cool T^T Like his swag and omg his voice when he sang?! It was good!!, Jun - GAHD WHERE TO START WITH THIS BOY! He was so handsome!!!!! Like legit wth?! And like he should be given more lines! He's so talented!, Seokmin - DKKKKKKKKK HE'S SO CUTE I JUST WANNA TAKE CARE OF HIM T^T his voice is heavenly and so strong!, Boo - he is definitely the funniest member XD HAAHAH Booemi is forever in my heart HAHAHAH and HIS VOICE IS PERFECTION LIKE LEGIT PERFECTION!, Minghao - THE8 NEEDS MORE LOVE! Like bruh don't sleep on talent!! HE'S ALREADY IMPROVED SO MUCH!! MY I WAS AWESOME! CHINA LINE PLEASE HAVE MORE MOMENTS ON THE SPOTLIGHT!, Seungcheol - Our precious leader is sooooo confusing >< Like one second he's this swaggy rapper then next, he's this cute precious human being that needs to be protected T^T His red hair was sooooo good on him too!!, Jisoo - omg guys, like Jisoo's voice is so good! I don't understand why he has so little lines in Vocal Team songs and like Seventeen songs in general??? Like his parts in Don't Listen In Secret is like one of my most favorite lines!! and he looked really handsome omg ><, Mingyu - I can't with this guy too! He's so classy af and like keep on confusing my heart dammit! He seemed like the member who focuses on each member like really listening to what they say and looking at what they do! Like.....I love him T^T, Jihoon - MY WITTLE FAIRY WOOZIIIII, can I just keep him in my heart forever? His voice is so perfect like I wished he sang Simple cause it's one of my favorite songs EVER T^T I wanted the other members to kiss him but they didn't T^T HAHAHAH And like omg I could really see the height difference though hahaha (sorry Jihoon), Chan - !!! MY CHILD!!! (I call him that even though he's only 3 years younger than me lol) HE'S GROWING UP TO BE SO HANDSOME T^T like bruuuh all those dance solos he got?! and like he sings and raps and like he just has everything T^T, Hoshi - KWON FREAKING SOONYOUNG I SWEAR YOU SHOULD STOP STEALING MY HEART FROM WONWOO OR ELSE T^T HE'S SO TALENTED LIKE HE HAS ONE OF MY MOST FAVORITE VOICES IN SEVENTEEN AND LIKE HE'S JUST MY PRINCE T^T LIKE HE'S SO WITTY AND SO FUN AND SO FULL OF LOVE AND FLUFF AND SWAG I CAN'T EVEN T^T, LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT THE LEAST MY MAIN MAN WONWOO!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH T^T THANK YOU FOR SMILING AND HAVING FUN AND BEING THERE WITH US! I CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN ALL MY FEELS WHEN I SAW YOU T^T YOU ARE NOTHING BUT PERFECTION HUHUHU HIS VOICE WHEN RAPPING, HIS VOICE WHEN SINGING AND JUST EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT! Can I love you forever? T^T
So to conclude! My first Seventeen concert with all 13 members (and definitely not my last) was the best T^T I love this talented, down to earth, noisy, extra af, loving and pure group that is called Seventeen <3
Seventeen, my ultimate KPop bias group, SEEING THEM COMPLETE AND IN CONCERT WAS THE BEST! July 27, 2017.
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN IN OCTOBER!
