it is strange having severe and "scary" mental health symptoms but also like, being a funny person and trying to talk about it. i'll mention that if i get too emotional, sometimes I start clawing at my skin and banging my head against things. and like, when i just casually make that comment, people think it's a joke or hyperbole. but like. no. i'm not one of those people who misuse words like psychosis or ocd or gaslighting.

sometimes i think it's strange how people react to those bc from what i see people say online, a ton of people have these issues. but in actuality, for a lot of people it IS hyperbole and they're just kidding around, and it becomes very Weird when you mention that these are things you struggle with genuinely. not just half impulses that you can easily control.

i have been thinking for days about a tweet i saw that said something along the lines of "I would have been diagnosed with female hysteria back in the day, cuz I'm so crazy". do these people know that there are a couple of conditions that we think were generally what was categorized under hysteria? that it wasn't just something they labeled opinionated women with. i have one of the conditions that used to be diagnosed as hysteria. it's a real, physical, mental disability. it's not quirky. it hurts. you wouldn't have been diagnosed hysteric, you would have been insisting that i get sent away for it
