okay well. for name joke reasons and other ones also i needed to make a second fankid. but comet is still the only relevant one. because here's what happens this time: for various reasons kintobor gets it in his head that it would be a good idea to use his clone-making know-how to make comet a sibling that actually has powers. he does not consult anyone on this idea before following through. it Does Not Go Well.

nobody is happy about lichen. everyone is mad at kintobor. eventually, lichen decides to leave the island to find somewhere else to make home: after hopping back into the tube to get aged up a little, lichen goes off to become a recurring background character that sometimes has adventures near shadow, the most sympathetic character to lichens whole situation.

Something something Knuckles didn't start getting sick until he met Eggman. The Master Emerald and Angel Island were a very safe and healthy environment, working specifically so Knuckles would be healthy and thrive in order to take care of the island in return. He'd never been sick, never had any bad germs to really worry about, he always thought he was just incredibly healthy.

And then he met Eggman. And Sonic and his friends. And suddenly Knuckles felt like he was dying from how terrible his immune system actually was when it came to common colds and sicknesses. What should have been a pretty standard illness for most Mobians turned into Knuckles being so weak he could hardly stand, his immune system shot because it hadn't experienced sickness before. All the symptoms exhausted him and he had no idea how to cure himself and the island no longer seemed to be helping.

The island looked as bad as he felt, flowers wilting and trees losing leaves and the Master Emerald didn't glow nearly as bright as it normally did. It got so bad that even before really knowing Sonic on a personal level he invited him to the island just so the island would be taken care of. He never thought about himself.

But Sonic made it his goal to be the first one to continue to be nice to him, to take care of him and make his first time being sick as easy as possible because he really did look miserable. Sonic didn't mention it though, he knew Knuckles already felt bad enough.

What are your thoughts on the idea that Sonic and Knuckles were destined to meet and be friends? Maybe destiny brought them together. On angel island in hidden palace zone, there is a mural of a hedgehog that looks suspiciously like Sonic...

I really love this idea!! The "meeting you was destiny" trope isn't always my favorite when it's done done right, but I feel like it applies as a great headcanon, and it could be done perfectly. I wonder if Knuckles admired the hedgehog in the mural or feared it? Either way, it would definitely be a surprise to have Eggman tell you to fight him and later become his friend.

Personally I think the most important thing with a shipname is that it's a tool for the fandom. So it should be something that is easy to search for (and ideally easy to block if you don't want to see it). So I would never shun the shipnames that are just the characters' names smushed together because it's the most practical, plus it's easy to understand what characters are in the relationship from a glance (most of the time)

So it's best to have a unique combination of words or a pun that changes the spelling. (In the worst case you could attach the fandom name at the end of it, though in our case it would imply that Sonic himself is a part of every relationship XD )

(Personally I've been trying to come up with a similar type shipname for a rarepair I have because I ship them somewhere between platonic and romantic and the namesmash is inherently romantic to me, but a duo name could be used platonically like, um. The Unbreakable Bond or Team Jubilee)

Actually no, I DO have a bone to pick with the Sonic fandom. We really picked the laziest way to make our ship names, huh? We just smashed their names together?? "But Caffeine, that's how most ship names are made-"

Ssssssssh. I get that - but with Sonic names being how they are... few Sonic ship names are able to roll of the tongue - and the words just look fuckin ugly. Sonknux, Blazamy, Knuxouge, Infadow, Sonjet, Whispangle, Wavouge - ugly, egregious. This is the petty discource I bring to the table. I'm a firm believer in the fact that the Sonic fandom should have more creative ship names. Those ones that are more thematically relevant - names that reference designs, powers, personality, or are cute and punny. We gotta take notes from names like Barnes and Noble/Starbucks (Steve x Bucky), Murder Husbands (Hannibal x Will), and Bumbleby (Yang x Blake). In fact, we should take a lot of notes from the RWBY fandom. White Rose, Monochrome, Ladybug, Nuts and Dolts, Freezerburn, Snowbird, Lancaster, White Knight, Rose Garden - JUST TO NAME A FEW OF THE MANY. This is the standard we should be aiming for. I think it'd be fun to think of cute ship names - I don't think they will take off due to the nature of the Sonic fandom and these ships being around for literal decades but I think it could be a fun exercise :)

oh yea speakin of sonknux. i think knux would want to get married.

i mean, we already know sonic Doesn't. he hates the concept of marriage, of being tied down to one person - or tied down at all. sure, he wouldnt mind the ceremony of it, but pmuch everything it stands for goes against everything he stands for.

but knux is a little more tradition-orientated. i think he'd find or be given knowledge over echidna marriage rites as a kid and spend the next month and a half daydreaming about him and sonic performing them together. being introduced to sonic's family as his future husband, the two cooking together and sharing recipes from their respect families as a sign of trust and a way of bonding. the actual marriage bit doesn't even require kissing, something he's still pretty sure sonic doesn't like (it doesnt mind its just rlly picky abt when where and why)

sonic sees marriage as a chain. knuckles sees it as nothing more than a promise - that they'll be together for as long as both are willing, and that they truly do love and care about each other.

maybe sonic would get how knux sees it, maybe he'd even be open to it, but right now he's got absolutely no interest in anything "more" than the relationship he's got with knux right now.

and that's entirely okay.
