The @renegadepublishing Bound Book Exchange is complete and the books I made have been received.

I was very lucky in that my recipient, @rhipidurafan, had multiple amazing picks for fics she'd like to receive and two spoke to me immediately. I got even more lucky when both @neverwaswise and @shinyopals gave me permission to bind their fics for this exchange.

I got less lucky when my Cameo 4 decided it wasn't going to foil my titles and tentacles for me, but I think it came out Not Too Bad doing it by hand.

Ship In A Bottle by Neverwaswise (rated T) is a modern AU for OFMD and it starts with Stede moving into a lighthouse and doing some interior decorating. This decorating scheme influenced my choices for the case where I tried to match the paper to the wallpaper he was installing and the bookcloth and endbands to the orange brick of the interior of the lighthouse. I also knew early on that I wanted to reference the kraken tentacles on the case or end papers, but I couldn't find anything that felt right, so drawing my own tentacles it was. I'm so happy that the two that ended up making a kind of heart shape wrapped around to be on the front of the book.

The Magnus Institute vs the 21st Century by Shinyopals (rated T) is a series of four epistolary fics (well, 3 epistolary fics and one scriptbook style fic). I discovered very early that there is a very disappointing lack of good eye imagery for decorative paper and cloth options. I decided to lean heavily into the fact that the Magnus Institute may be dragged into the 21st century against their wills, but that doesn't mean they won't still keep things as old school as possible. For the emails and IMs, I tried to replicate the fonts that would be used in Outlook and on the cellphones, and then I matched fonts for the scriptbook as well.

But for the titles, I picked out a nice crunchy Punk Typewriter font. My Cameo 4 tried its best to destroy that on the spine, twice getting caught in one space and ruining it. And foiling by hand made it a little extra crunchy but I kind of enjoy the effect that happened. Yes, technically it's not perfect. But by this point I'd already decided on making my own cover paper art as a manila folder with post notes on it, so I actually enjoy the way that the imperfections in the spine titling make it look even more like this book is the result of the archival assistants printing off all the emails and IMs to file hard copies and then needing to hand adjust when the typewriter didn't quite label perfectly.

I also had a lot of fun coming up with some of the things to have on the post notes on the back cover.

And what would a TMA series be without some tea? I made the little tea bookmark and realized I didn't have any particularly tea colored size 10 crochet thread, so I did the reasonable thing and used gold with metallic and it's fancy tea. That's my story.

honestly? he really doesnt give a fuck about not being able to see colour. there are times where he's curious about the colour of the sea or the sky, bit other than that he really doesn't care

at first I feel like he'd be totally against the idea of a soulmate. the idea that he would have to live his entire life setting up boundaries just for one personxto come and break then down, bringing a large splash of colour and banishing the monochrome canvas of his future, just seemed stupid to him. but as life progressed he found himself yearning for that one person that his soul was intertwined with

like he sees edward and stede's love and just yearns for something like it, he wants someone that will love him until the ends of the earth. and honestly? above all he just wants to feel safe, he wants someone he can rely on, he wants someone that will hold him in their arms for as long as he needs

when he meets eyes with you my guy almost faints. he has to steady himself on the beam of the ship and beauty hues erupt all around him, bht most off all he can't take his eyes off you. the collur of your eyes is so beautiful that he just can't look away,'he's absolutely entranced

"i see the universe chose well for me" and he's just stood there, jaw hung open, absolutely speechless. he regains his composure after a moment and brushes your hair back, out of you face and just gently smiles at you

he's absolutely head over heels for you after that like. he's always just so euphoric when he's with you, pointing out all the colours lf the ocean and the birds and thanking you for bringing it into his life, when you do the exact same back, with probably more affection, he almost collapses

starts wearing rings with gems the colour of your eyes sp ue cam always ne reminded of them and the first colour he aaw in the moment the two of you caught eyes, he gets you one matching his eye colour too if you ask for one

sometimes he just suts by himself and watches the sunset, smiling slightly to himself as your laugh dchoes through his head

the comfortable silences with izzy are the best because he'll just sneak his hand into yours and lean against your shlulder, sighing contendedly as the only sound that you can hear is the waves gently crashing against the ship

being alone with izzy is the greatest because sometimes he nust stares at you lovingly, reaching a hand out to stroke your cheek, when you ask what he's thinking about he'll just gently smile and lean in, placing a kiss on your lips. "you"

and the truth was, you did fix things. ever since izzy found you he has been a better person, he's not bitter, cruel or harsh to the crew anymore, in factzn much to their surprised discomfort and distrust, he's given them quite a few days off to relax

hello hi!!! here are some thoughts that have been rattling around in my brain :-)

stede helps brush out ed's hair ONCE (one (1) time) and after that ed's like oh okay this is going to be your job forever now ❤️ so every night stede will brush it out and braid it for him. VERY important part of their nightly routine that also soothes ed into sleep :-)

VERY obsessed w the idea of stede being like. im a pirate. i NEED a tattoo. the convo i imagine is like theyre just lying in bed and stedes looking at eds tattoos and is like hmmm... i think i should get one. and eds like. holy shit absolutely. but of what? stede: maybe the flag of the revenge? ed: LOL which one we have like 5. stede: all of them! why not!! right down my arm! ed: stede i admire your ambition but maybe start small. anyway i think itd be cute for ed to give stede like a small stick-and-point star or something on his hand and then eventually they will get matching lighthouse tattoos thanks ❤️

on marriage: i really really love the idea of them exchanging rings in a literal sense, as in stede giving ed his turquoise ring and ed giving stede one of his ruby rings. i also have a different thought abt what they might do instead of a ring exchange but i shant say here bc im writing it into a fic :-) i also like the idea of them being like. ok we're husbands. like fuck a "proper ceremony" or whatever they just decide it and its law and then they throw a shipwide party after that the end
