I decided I'm taking the L and applying for the car part assembly place that my former neighbor works at cause A) she can vouch for me which increases my chances of actually getting it, B) all the places I actually wanted to work at either aren't hiring or never got back to me but this place is always hiring, and C) it's full-time and pays $17.75 an hour and I've looked at the rent prices for nearby apartments and calculated that with that pay I should be able to move out in about a year give or take so even though I won't enjoy it it'll be worth it in the long run.
#i also decided recently that freelance graphic artist is the career path i wanna take#so while i'm working there i'm gonna look for a good online graphic design course i can take#and then maybe while i'm at it i'll finally learn how to do digital art#and then i can actually start using my deviantart account and take commissions#y'know to make some extra money on the side#and then eventually when i get all that off the ground i can find an apartment over in kansas city and move there cause blue springs sucks#this is like the first time in my life i've actually had a long-term game plan for the foreseeable future so hopefully it actually works ou#but yeah the evening shift at this car place is from 2 pm to 10 pm#so i'm gonna find one of those online courses where you can do everything at your own pace#so that way i can do that in the mornings and work in the afternoons#also i'd be able to keep a consistent gym schedule#cause i could go to the gym early in the morning#i prefer going to the gym like as soon as it opens cause that's when it's the least crowded#so yeah fingers crossed all this shit goes according to plan i guess#former neighbor gave me a number to call some lady but obviously i'll have to wait til monday for that#cause she definitely won't be there on the weekend#shut up tristan

Recommendations for additional/alternative social media?
This blog and my wider public social media presence are approaching two years old. While it has been a good time and I am grateful for the following I have attained and friends I have made, I am curious about using other social media. Sure, Tumblr is not the most obscure social media, but it’s more niche than a lot of others. I am interested in taking commissions some time in future and am interested in growing my audience in general, but I also just want to discover new artists and find new inspirations. I already have Reddit and Discord accounts, but from what I understand most people do not use Reddit for personal-blog type social media even though you can post art there, and I’d prefer to keep Discord for personal use. Remember even if I where to create other accounts, I’d probably still use Tumblr as my primary social media
Here is a list of sites I am already aware of, and their personal pros and cons in my eyes (ordered from of most interested to least interested):
Deviantart
+Art focused
+Decently popular (?)
-Had the entire AI debacle. I mean Tumblr essentially turned around and did the same thing, but it still makes me feel weird
-At least from what I understand, there was a mass exodus to other social media sites after the AI debacle and in the past few years in general
-From what I have heard, certain communities can be toxic (though that’s true of all social media)
YouTube
-I actually am genuinely interested in getting into YouTube, it’s just mostly a thing where I don’t know what I’d upload at this point outside of silent speedraws. If I ever actually learn audio/video editing I might go for it, but it would be some time in the future
Instagram/Threads (Lumped together because from what I understand you need one to have the other)
+In the case of Instagram, incredibly popular
-Pretty much forgotten in the case of Threads
-Anything made by Meta gives me the squick. That’s not to say Tumblr’s owners/the owners or runners of any social media are “good” by any means, but still. Even I were to use these, I’d probably focus on output my own work on there rather than interacting with other users.
-Once again I have heard that some subsections of Instagram can be pretty toxic
Furaffinity
+Niche, but its a niche that would probably overlap somewhat with my work and interests
-I have heard the owners/mods are either shitty people themselves or at least associate with shitty/problamatic people. If there where similar alternatives that did not come with said baggage I’d probably been interested in those
Xitter/TikTok
-Just no. I respect anyone who chooses to use either of these for art, they’re just not for me unless for some reason I get really desperate. Like Instagram, even I were to start using these sites, I’d probably focus on my own output rather than interacting with other users.
I left Amino off of here because I have not heard of anyone using it in a while but from what I heard it kind of went down the shitter. Bluesky (?) and ToyHouse are off of here because those require access codes (and I haven’t heard anyone talk about Bluesky in a hot minute), and I feel weird about just asking people for them. Creating my own website, wether that be through Neocities or straight up learning code, falls under the same category as YouTube, where I am interested but don’t have the skills or the time to learn the skills to operate them.

Have you ever drawn traditionally? Say, with pencil?
Oh yeah, of course! That's where I started actually. I didn't get into digital drawing/art until college, and even then I mostly drew traditionally. Ironically, I was slow, and even at a point stubbornly refused to do digital art for a while. But since it became more accessible and I found that it fit will with my interest in comics and animation, digital ended up becoming my main medium!
Old art incoming!
I used mostly pens and pencils, and stuck largely with black and white, and very little color. Below are some of the oldest pieces I could find at the moment. They're from 2008/2009, when I was 16-17 years old. One is a page from an old comic that I did, and another is the rare opportunity that I had to work with copic markers
(these can still be found on my old deviantart (@/jadethestone) account haha)
I also did Inktober for a few years. For 2017 I used just ink pens, for 2018 I created India Ink portraits, and for 2019 I used some brush-tip ink-markers which were fun and colorful (all can be found on my instagram (@/renaissancef0x) if you dig far enough)
I actually really like working with India Ink and doing portraits. I even liked combining it with a bit of watercolor for a splash of color! These are my more "recent" pieces from around 2019. The second one was part of a series that was featured in a couple small galleries in Tokyo for a short time
The main reason why I don't do traditional much anymore is because it takes up physical space and materials are more expensive. Also, I became more known online for my comics and such, so that's what I started leaning towards. When I started opening up commissions, I even offered traditional portraits, but no one wanted any, so I took them off this year.
It would be nice to have more opportunities to do/show off my traditional art skills, but I'm very focused on comics and animation now and I work better digitally with them

Which site do you use fpr commission? Or do you use email? Because honestly i want to do commisions online but i am very suspicious of bots and scam accounts 😔
1. I take orders on all social media I have (twt, insta and deviantart, here i haven't yet had anyone ask for a comm)
2. Communication with the customers is done depending on what they prefer. Either dms on that social media, or discord, or email (which is very rare)
3. I have never been scammed by a commissioner. I've had only one instance when someone didn't pay me for months after I finished their work, due to things going on in their life, but they did pay me in the end.
4. Don't take commissions from empty accounts, if you're taking comms on social media. It's easy to tell if you're talking with a bot or a human if you start discussing details on the commission.
5. Ask to get paid upfront, or half upfront. I don't do that because of personal reasons but it's the standard practice.
6. I know there are scammers that might do chargebacks or not pay you at all after you've finished their commission. My advice is to be aware of the discussions you have with them. Do they seem actually invested in the commission they're getting? What are they asking for? Most. normal people who love your art will most likely be following you on social media, will have liked your art before.
7.I have never had anyone directly message me on email or discord for comms. I don't think I would trust just a random email asking for art.
8. You always have the risk of being scammed. Always , always ask to get paid before you send any high resolution final pieces. Paypal allows chargebacks. If you worry about that, I'm not sure about the legalities of using it for work, but kofi doesn't do refunds. I would look into their tos though, since it's primarily a donations site.
9. I have in my TOS (terms of service) that if a customer fails to pay me I reserve the right to alter the art I made for them and use it to make up for the lost profit. I also always check with customers that they've read said TOS.
Hope this helps. Doing freelance commissions online isn't always safe, but if you avoid obviously suspicious accounts reaching out to you, you'll mostly be fine! I definitely recommend DeviantArt for advertising your commissions and art and getting safer customers, most people there are at least art lovers if not artists themselves, and you can also see how old an account is. Someone who's been there for five or ten years is less likely to scam you, in my experience. DeviantArt needs some work to get your art to be seen, but if you learn to use the groups function and you wiggle your way into communities/interract with others, it's a more straightforward way to find customers than praying to the instagram algorithm gods to favor you. Twitter is also useful and in my experience has less wierd people coming into your dms asking for free art than Instagram does.

Introduction post
hiya to anyone that has stumbled across this page amid the mass exodus from twitter! the names yoshii (a.k.a: shi-gut)! im actually not really new to this place so i don’t need a “welcome” sort of thing. kinda surprised this username wasn’t taken after i deleted my old account lol. this is the same handle ive used before so nothing different than before. for anyone that has ever seen my old blog or was around during that time pre-2018 (or if you’re completely new), back in 2021 i decided to up and delete my account here. reason being is because ever since the whole mess with tumblr being bought in 2018, most of everyone had jumped ship and fled to twitter. things weren’t the same as they once were and i could clearly feel it as the activity i was getting on here after 2018 was almost non-existent. after awhile i decided to also jump ship myself but actually deleted the account after putting it off for 3 years. i thought of keeping it up for the sake of archiving, but like deviantart, that old blog reminds me of nothing but my cringe era during its reign and i’d rather dissociate from that era as much as possible. same for deviantart. funny that now twitter is going through the exact same hell tumblr went through. same situation: gets bought out, new owner fucks over millions of users with drastic changes, and those said changes cause mass exodus to occur as users seek new horizons to expand upon but are stuck with the challenge of trying to recreate what they had before on the old platform (unless you’re a big name or popular enough that it won’t matter). it’s assumed rn that twitter could potentially die off as they are hemorrhaging employees by the gallons and with what little will remain, the site might not function very well if there’s few people to manage it. idk how true it is and im not one to get wrapped up in this sort of thing. ever. the only reason i have to give a damn is because i put art out there and compared to any other social platform ive been on in the past 10 years, nothing compares to twitter. im not a commission/request artist so im not really worried about that, but it’s moreso to just get my name and stuff out there anyways. (especially if/when i do decide to take on commissions). so that sorta thing is kinda important for me, and also for other artists/content creators etc. we are more likely to get hit by this hurricane harder compared to the rest.
because of the uncertainty, im restarting my tumblr account from scratch again. im also restarting my deviantart account as well shortly. i still plan to remain active on twitter despite this whole mess. simply because it’s very important to still throw my work out there even if im throwing it into a barren wasteland with a population of zero. rn im just trying to cover as much base as i can in the event that twitter does end up becoming the new tumblr. i have no idea how or what i plan to do for this blog. maybe start by reuploading some old stuff from my other old social accounts just to get everything up to speed and then focus on the new stuff? prolly might do that. idk if plan to be super active because i just restarted this account. but we shall see in the upcoming days!
my carrd website with more socials! (gotta update it soon)

About reposted fanart accounts:
Hi guys! I’ve sort of noticed an influx of reposted fanart going around in the last few days and I wanted to make this post as a reminder of the general rules/guidelines for interacting with fanart from other artists. This applies to all artists from any community, not just the DR fandom, but since this fandom is so big, I thought it would be a good idea to write this post here.
That being said, I know a lot of reposters tend to be young and it may be their first time interacting with a fandom in general, so this post is meant to be informative and is not meant to inspire any harassment or bullying of reposters.
Let’s start with the basics.
What is reposting?
Reposting is the act of taking someone else’s art and posting it to your own social media account as if it were your own post, typically without crediting the original artist. However, many artists do not want their work reposted on another account or platform even if proper credit is given, and will deny permission for reposts even if asked directly.
Why is reposting bad?
To put it simply, it’s a form of art theft that prevents the original artist from receiving the traction and attention they might otherwise have gotten. Artists may have spent several hours, weeks, or even months on beautiful pieces of art, only for a reposter to save the picture and reupload it somewhere else in a matter of seconds. These reposts take attention away from the original artist, which can be frustrating for artists who rely on commissions or freelance work to make a living.
Even credited reposts can still harm the original artist, as many of the people who will like or reblog a reposted art piece won’t actually take the time to go like, bookmark, or comment on the original work. Additionally, once a piece is already reposted, it may inspire other reposters to upload it elsewhere, starting a chain of reposts where it becomes increasingly hard to pinpoint the original artist and give credit. This is why many reposts simply have captions like “Credit to the artist! (idk who they are)”. Some reposts may even gain enough traction that they eventually surpass the original post, which can be especially disheartening for the artist who spent so much time and effort on their work.
These many frustrating reasons often add up and cause many artists to become disillusioned with fandoms. In many cases, artists have been known to delete pieces which have been frequently reposted, or even delete their entire accounts out of sheer frustration. This is especially common in eastern fandoms, where the language barrier often means western reposters are even less likely to ask for permission first before reposting an artist’s work elsewhere. That being said, even western artists may delete their accounts or move fandoms altogether to get away from fandoms which have been known for frequent reposts.
Does reposting actually give an artist more exposure?
This doesn’t work for most artists, especially if the art isn’t credited. Some artists may decide to grant permission for reposts if they’re asked for permission directly, but many artists have accounts across multiple social media sites and prefer to upload their own work directly. If you actually want to support an artist or help their work reach a wider audience, it’s almost best to like, reblog, and comment on the original piece. Tumblr is even better for this than most social media sites, since you can leave your comments entirely in the tags if you’re too embarrassed to comment on the piece directly.
I guarantee artists will check your tags, see all the nice things you said about their art, and be very, very happy.
How can I tell if an art piece is reposted?
On Tumblr, most artists tend to have a tag for their own art, whether it’s just “my art” or “art by me” or something similar. Even if they don’t, you can usually tell whether a piece seems like it was drawn by the op by going through their blog and comparing it to similar posts that they’ve made. On other social media sites like twitter or instagram, most people will specifically call their account an art account, and you can usually tell whether they draw just by checking their bios.
Artwork which lacks any personal tags, sources, or seems incongruous with other artwork posted by the same person may be stolen from somewhere else. You can usually check by using Google’s reverse image source feature, or excellent sites like “Saucenao” to see if the piece exists anywhere else, like Pixiv or Deviantart. Saucenao even has an extension for most browsers that lets you just right click an image and immediately search it for a source.
Most artwork that’s been reposted with permission will usually say as much upfront. Art-with-permission accounts often credit the artist first and then say something like “this piece was posted with permission.” Some accounts have faked having permission in the past, but the legitimate ones who actually do ask for permission usually have screenshots of DMs where they talked to the artist. Typically they’ll either link to these screenshots in the caption or on their blog somewhere.
TL;DR Please try not to reblog or share around fanart if it seems like it may have been reposted! Reposts can be incredibly harmful to the careers and success of original artists, and it’s almost always better to interact instead with the original piece. Artists provide so much beautiful, engaging content in fandoms, and it’s a shame to see so many of them packing up or deleting their accounts all because their work was stolen without permission.
I think this is a good discussion to have with people who are newer to fandom who may not be familiar with all the proper “fandom etiquette” rules, so if people want to reblog this post I don’t mind!
#text post#not exactly sure how to tag this but i hope this post can help explain how to avoid reposts#i've seen quite a few pieces i recognize from pixiv and twitter artists floating around without credit lately#so i thought i'd try and write something informative

Regarding the harassment, rumors, and false claims…
So here I am once again having to come out to defend myself against this person, because it seems this certain serial art thief, scammer, and bully once again cannot leave my name out of their mouth and has gone through extensive measures to not only stalk, keep tabs on me, and avoid block altogether and attempt to spread lies, cause drama, harass, and slander my name because they simply cannot put this to rest. I’ve tried my best to avoid this mess and ignore it altogether because it is tiring and the amount of proof against you is enough to rest my case, but the moment the rumors of ‘p*do pandering’ and ‘targeting young girls’ or ‘teenagers’ came into play next to my name is when I must and NEED to put this shit to an absolute stop. How fucking dare you or anybody even attempt to consider such a gross accusation! Talk about whatever salty bullshit you want but to spread false rumors of that regard is absolutely serious and disgusting beyond belief when there are actual unfortunate cases that have and continue to happen in this community!
I’ll say it again, Kharma Shade, @/darlasboobs, @/sprusillas on Twitter, and wherever else you might be hiding just so you can continue to keep tabs and perpetually stalk me, leave me and my friends the fuck alone!
For anybody uninterested in this please feel free to ignore and scroll on, and once again I apologize for having to bring up this old tiresome shit…
First off, you’re a grown ass fucking adult, not some ‘young girl’ or ‘teenager’ you literally informed us at the start of this thing a year ago that you were 23 and engaged. If you are younger or older than it doesn’t matter outside of being fucking weird you would even lie to begin with as if to use your age or youth as a method of not being held accountable for your actions. Here is you admitting that when you apologized to my friend for your actions on A&C when this shit first started with them:
You’ve made it so terribly obvious that you will post on that damned secrets blog pretending to be multiple people when it is literally just you, as well as vague about me on your Twitter, as you’ve done this numerous times in the past. Do whatever the fuck you want with your OC and RP the biggest fucking issue I had with you was not only did you steal my commissioned artwork(and others) to be referenced for your own OC and copied, but you literally took my own personal artwork I made without permission as well as my friend’s artwork gifted to me to have referenced and essentially carbon copied into your own.
Here is actual proof of you admitting all of this before deactivating your Tumblr:
There are even more receipts of you scamming a smaller artist out of two colored sketches which you never paid for!
Not only that but you and your ‘friends’ were literally threatening su*cide and harassing me for days if I refused to take down my original post calling you out and at one point you even ‘disappeared’ while these ‘friends’ were constantly bullying me and crying wolf that you actually did it! You even posted that shit on your Tumblr prior to deactivation!
As a reference here is a link to my previous post since you seem to have forgotten all of the former evidence against you and why this whole thing started to begin with:
Leave me the fuck alone! I haven’t even thought about you nor mentioned you since that whole ordeal and I have no fucking clue what possible ‘iconic traits’ and plagiarism you are even talking about. What plagiarism??? I don’t have any descriptions of my OC made public unless you are seriously digging through years of archives of my writing on here which is both CREEPY and STALKING! Considering I have you BLOCKED on every platform I know you on and don’t want you anywhere near me!
I haven’t made any changes to my OC in years aside from hairstyles and eyelashes and maybe just my art style progression, and all of that is documented on my social handles/DeviantArt which if you were actually any good and not entirely selective you would fucking know.
I have artwork that dates years back and we’ll before I even knew who you are or when you were known to pull shit like this! The only changes that have been made to my Amora’lei outside of hairstyles were her ‘white eyelashes’ which my friend, who is known as the other ‘albino elf’, and I have discussed as we’ve long since hashed our issues yeaaars ago and are incredible friends. We even inspire each other in our art and writing all of the time; I don’t know how many times this needs to be made clear.
#tw harassment#tw suicide#tw bullying#art thief#kharma shade#moon guard#wyrmrest accord#leave me alone!

Aforementioned long ask post please excuse me while i try to figure out tumblr's new text editor. I’ll get into the art meme questions first and then the rest at the end.
Ok first of all thank you all for sending in questions! Giving me an excuse to talk hehe. I’ll address these in number order. Here’s a link to the ask meme for reference but also I’ll restate the question for ease of reading.
1. When did you get into art?
Super cliche answer but I don’t remember a time where I WASN’T the weird art kid! I started keeping a dedicated sketchbook when I was about 12? But here’s a page from my kindergarten journal about what I want to be when I grow up.
2. What art-related sites have you ever signed up for?
LOL this is a weird question. Not sure why so many people want to know. Anyways I definitely had a dA. more than one dA account. I used to browse oekakis when I was a kid but I think I was only signed up to some small ones that internet friends owned. What else...? Mangabullet,Tegakie, Paintberri, iscribble back when that was a thing, instagram if that COUNTs, I used to post art on livejournal and dreamwidth too. Patreon, I guess. Gumroad, inprnt, bigcartel, storenvy all for selling stuff.
In terms of resources.. I have a schoolism account that I’m sharing with friends. Used to take classes on coursera for free. I signed up to textures.com for work recently haha. I can’t remember if I ever had an account on posemaniacs. Did they have accounts...? I definitely used to visit all the time.
3. Show us your oldest piece of art you have on hand.
Alright here’s me actually logging into my old deviantart account. These are from September 2008 So I was 13 years old. I don’t have a deviantart account from before then because 13 was the required age for having an account and I didn’t want to lie about my age because I wanted people to be impressed by how young yet clearly incredible at art I was LOL.
4. What defines your artistic style?
You guys are probably more equipped to answer this than me but uh... I wanna say... Focus on colors. And... a slightly heavy hand? Like confident... not always well-considered mark making HAH...
Also I think I have a pretty healthy mix of american comics/manga influences. I feel like people who are into american comics always think my art is too manga and people who are into anime/manga always think my art is too american. And I’m taking that as a good sign.
5. Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past?
I like to think I switch it up a bunch! I mean, these are pretty different, right?
I think I’ve mentioned this before but one thing I really took away from art school is that, for an illustrator at least, art style shouldn’t be consistent. Your greatest weapon is changing the aspects of your style based on the task, the emotions and message you want to illustrate etc. So depending on the project I’m working on, the fandom I’m drawing for, whether I want something to be funny or serious or dramatic, I’ll change things about my style all the time.
One thing I don’t rly post on here is really tight polished work and that’s because I do that for my day job haha. If you’re not paying me... I’m probably not gonna color in the lines.
6. What levels of artistic education have you had?
I have a whole ass diploma LOL. Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. from the Rhode Island School of Design. And I had a great college experience tbh. Besides the student loans. If any of you guys are thinking about art school feel free to e-mail or message me questions or concerns, I’ll be happy to help. Be as honest as I can be.
7. Show us at least one picture you drew or sketched recently that you did not put on a public site.
heres the wandavision kids. Uhh what else do I have...I feel like I’m rummaging for loose change here...
assorted valentines prep doodles
8. What is your favourite piece that you have done?
Well, obviously this is gonna change all the time and generally it’s gonna be my most recent piece LOL. So yeah, why the hell not. I’ll say it’s this one. I have a pretty short memory which I count as a blessing for an artist. I don’t dwell that long on older work and it keeps me moving forward.
10. What do you like most about your art?
I like that it’s something that only I would make! I had this thought fairly recently and I wrote it down in my sketchbook, it’s pretty cheesy and rambling but it felt revolutionary at the time:
So yeah. I like my art best when it’s the most me and for me. And I like it least when it feels like I’m just making something for social media or for other people’s expectations or whatever.
14. What do you like drawing the most?
Kids in baggy clothing are like my go-to LOL idk if that’s obvious. but also I like being challenged so lately I’ve really loved drawing multi-character compositions, environments, weird angles, etc.
oh i LOVE drawing the underside of shoes lol. And bandages. People that are kinda beat up.. I think it comes from getting a bunch of cuts all the time. I’m always patching myself up and I want to patch characters up too.
15. What do you like drawing the least?
mmm I try to find something to like in every drawing but lets see... I don’t like doing commissions of people’s dogs. Just because it’s normally like... a family friend and my mom volunteered me without my consent and I don’t even really know what they’re expecting me to draw and I don’t even get to meet the dog. Also I’m not that great at dog anatomy. Trying to learn though.
18. What is your purpose for drawing?
This could have a million answers! Uhhh to GIT GOOD??? But also to express myself... and also to make money... I mean it depends on what the drawing IS. I draw fanart mostly to connect to people in the fandom so if you ever see me drawing fanart please take it as like an open invitation to talk to me about the character haha.
20. How would you rank your art? (poor, mediocre, good, etc.)
Good!!! I have a lot of self-confidence primarily born out of ignorance and a short attention span. If I don’t think too hard about how many other artists are mindblowingly unfathombly good... its easy to think I’m good too! LOL
In all seriousness though, I think the opinion a person has of their art is like a crazy balancing act, right? Like you have to think you suck enough to want to get better but also you have to think you’re good enough to not want to give up. I think we’re all walking that line, I know I am! But also I’m a glass half-full type of person so. Most of the time I feel good about it.
22. List at least one of your “artspirations.”
This is a good question because I’ve been trying and failing to put together one of those “influence map” memes for like a full month now. What’s giving me a hard time is I feel like none of these are actually really obvious “““influences”““ in my art? Like it’s hard to see a lot of them in the work I make...? But idk maybe you guys’ll see what I can’t.
And these are just a couple! God there’s so many more. I could talk about other artists for ages, from all different genres of art. Daumier, Rockwell like every illustrator out there, Dana Gibson, Alex Toth, Hiroshi Yoshida, a lot of the Brandywine School. Lots of current working artists too, Karl Kerschl, frikkin Masashi Kishimoto lol, Jake Wyatt, Richie Pope, Edouard Caplain, Matt Cook, Sachin Teng, - lots of big internet artists, Sophie Li, Freddy Carrasco, Milliofish, Angela Sung... like all my friends from art school too. I could just keep going but I’ll stop for now lol.
24. Do you have a shameful art past? (recolour sprite comics, tracing art, etc.)
I mean if that’s how we’re defining shameful?? sure LOL. It’s not sprite comics but I used to do pokemon sprite recolors all the time. And I used to trace manga panels and color them... Granted this was all when I was like under 12 yrs old so it’s not even embarrassing. Can you really call it shameful when a 7 year old wets the bed or whatever? Not really. In fact some of these are cool as fuck. Look
25. Draw a picture!
Man I’m so tired now but here.
I used to get a lot of compliments for drawing people smiling lol but I don’t think I’ve drawn a lot of smiling lately.. here’s proof I’ve still got it.
OK MEME DONE. onto the rest.
I read this ask first thing when i opened my computer in the morning and it made me really emotional.. I’m so glad my sketches could help you!!
I think a lot of artists on social media talk about the struggle of making art but imo not enough people talk about the joy! Like I know it’s corny but. I really meant what I said at the beginning of that sketchbook about re-contextualizing art around process and progress > product and perfection. I think its super important..! The strength of messy, unfinished, and energetic art! For the feeling of it, for the love it!
That's crazy!!! I hope you like 'em. The whole line of x-books is really good rn imo.
Hi! I totally have the answer for digital stuff on my faq lol. But in terms of drawing on paper.. it varies! I tend to use sketchbooking and any on-paper doodling I do as a way to loosen up/warm-up or experiment. But right now my go-to aresenal is:
from top > bottom
- kuretake no.55 doublesided brush pen
- tombow fudenosuke
- muji 0.38 ballpoint
- medium size poscas
- grey tombow double brush pens
- good ol bic mechanical pencil
not EXACTly sure which inking you referring to from my sketchbook but if I had to take a guess it'd probably be the kuretake no55. That's been my main inker, lately. Great for sketching with the thin end too.
You can print out and eat my art if you like. Just please don't mass produce or re-sell. <3
Thanks! I've come to accept that my art is always gonna be sort of gestural and painty naturally. It's getting it to tighten up enough to be legible that's hard lol...
uh yeah lol I agree actually. I think yolei is great.
I assume these asks are related? LOL
1) Yeah totally true. I love David.
2) I don’t take requests, sorry! But if you want to commission me to draw Legion i would be MORE than happy to. Just e-mail me at [email protected].

Honestly been meaning to ask ever since I found your blog, but do you ever take commissions? There isn’t enough Roy love to go around and my soul demands M O A R
There isn’t enough Roy love to go around because all of it is contained within me and I'm not willing to share, sorry.
I've a complicated relationship with hobby monetization. Don't get me wrong, being able to make money off my art would be grand, and I'd love to be able to do it, I could really use a boost. But also art is what I do to relax, and I wouldn't want to turn it into another chore. With that said, I don't and here's why:
1. Well, for one, I don't have a bank account, can't open one, either (I mean, my job* doesn't pay me, literally, so having one would cost me more than it's worth). As is, I keep all my money in secret envelopes in the sock drawer, cause I'm old-fashioned like that. So unless you plan on meeting me in person, there is no way for me to engage in monetary exchange, even if I wanted to. Maybe I should start taking commissions in art trades like the good ol' deviantart times, bahahaha.
2. I'm sceptical that anyone would actually be willing to pay me for my artistic endeavours, anyway. As such, I don't take commissions, I don't have a patreon**, and I don't take tips. I've neither the audience nor self esteem for those things, and I don't wanna make myself look like a fool tryina start anything with no results - had enough of that by now and I'm allergic to disappointment.
3. If I did take commissions, they would not involve Roy as a general rule. It goes against my principles. I'm a Roy devotee, I do this out of my own pure self indulgence and genuine adoration, nothing more (though, of course, the positive attention is always appreciated). Roy makes me happy, and this is the least I can do to repay him. Well, that, and the sacrifices, but that's not what this is about. Besides, I need to draw Roy to live. S'not like I'm ever gonna stop.
* ""Unpaid Internship""
** On top of my general dislike of patreon
#I hope this post doesn't come off wrong I just don't know how to answer questions without being extra verbose about it#'I've a complicated relationship with hobby monetization' yeah yeah what don't you have a complicated relationship with#I've a complicated relationship with money and I've a complicated relationship with the concept of fame#But that has nothing to do with commissions and is a whole nother rant for a whole nother day#I have my onions and nowhere to put them so I scream into the void instead

Hello! How are you? I wanted to know if u had some advice for someone wanting to start selling psd (besides knowing how to use ps, which is the basic hahah). thank you!
hello!!! im alright, thank you :)
honestly i don't really have very much experience with monetizing my creations. i have recently begun releasing psds as pay only for about 2 weeks until making them available for free, but i haven't had anyone buy them, and i found out some things about the way deviantart "pays" artists (points cannot be converted to actual money irl without a core membership, which requires More money) and am therefore likely going to stop this practice because points have no value to me because i do not buy goods on deviantart.
however! a good thing i will recommend is the ko-fi website, which is sort of like a donation pool, where you can advertise your art and even do commissions through it. ko-fi, unlike deviantart, does provide for the exchange of real money, however you cannot list individual products to sell afaik. however, as mentioned you can take commissions theough it i believe either through the actual website itself (i think it may have a commissions widget, however i dont know if this is a premium option or not) or by having commissioners donate through it.
you can also use, i would assume, paypal or other online banking apps, by having customers IM you and sending them the psd file once they have paid.
though like i said i don't really have any experience. i have never yet made any money or profit from what i create. all of this advice is based on my own research and what ive found out by looking through both websites, so i highly suggest doing the same or asking multiple other creators as my word may not be the whole truth or the truth at all.
if you want to start uploading psds without necessarily making a profit, i suggest google drive or deviantart. i use both, where i post my psds on deviantart (partially for aesthetic reasons as deviantart is a prettier website than GD) and then upload them to a folder in my google drive so that if anyone needs an alt link for any reason i may provide it for them. it also helps to keep things sort of neater as if i move devices (as i recently did and lost my local folder for psds) i have all of my psds available on the google account.
i hope this helps, if not entirely then at least a little bit! if you still need any help feel free to ask and i may answer to the best of my abilities.

Final 2020 Update: 2021 Goals!!
Cross posting from my devART
Also links to all my alts and shit will be at the end of the post if you need them!
So some of these may be unrealistic due to my struggles with ADHD/Depression Combo but. I wanted to get these down somewhere so you guys can see them and be aware..
Please note, my executive functioning abilities are absolutely Butchered on the regular by my ADHD alone, and the various stressors of 2020 have absolutely taken anything else I might have had in that department and tossed it out the window.
Something something something, financial stressors outside of my control sends me into shut down mode and I can't do anything productive or even fun until it's handled, but because I'm not doing anything productive, I'm not making any money, and the stressors gets worse and worse and it just ends up in a horrible cycle where I constantly want to die because I'm not able to create anything to relieve the stress! Which is why you've all seen... pretty much a standstill on my productivity save one or two pieces a month if I'm lucky
That said, I'm going to start trying (hopefully with some outside help/accountability to keep me on track while I'm unmedicated) to put a system in place that doesn't make me constantly want to die while like. maybe actually getting stuff done! So I'm making some optimistic goals for 2021 regarding both my art and ability to make money, so here goes!
I'm breaking this down into 3 parts:
Changes to expect regarding my social media, commissions in general, posting, etc;
Overall Goals for 2021;
and Goals for January specifically.
Changes to expect going forward from here:
I'm going to be making some changes regarding my social media accounts, including this one, mostly concerning when, where, and how I'm posting.
I am also going to be making some changes to my commission policies, prices, and payments in the coming year, namely:
Lastly, I will be making some changes to my art discord server!
Moving forward, I am going to be MOST active on my twitter and tumblr accounts. They're just easier for me to maintain in general, and although I hate twitter's formatting, it's just easier and faster, and frankly after deviantART and Instagram fucked with their websites/algorithms, it just makes the most sense for me as an artist.
I'm also going to be making an effort to make scheduled cross-posts on all my accounts. In the past, I've been really irregular about when and where I post things (most things got posted to my old tumblr account but never here, i rarely remember to post to instagram, etc).
This is going to include commission slots, finished piece dumps, etc.
I will also be making an effort to semi-regularly post sketch dumps, both digitial and traditional. I am also considering at this time offering a monthly digital download of my sketch collections, though I am undecided as I'm not really sure how many people would be interested.
Increasing commissions prices to reflect time spent working on specific commission types, as well as my personal cost of living.
Planning and announcing commission slots in advance.
Taking and finishing regular commissions to cover living expenses on a monthly basis
Payments will be exclusively through paypal invoice, and will be broken up in halves: first half will be taken up front after I have started and given proof of start (base sketch), the second half will be paid after completion, with WIPS given between first and second payment. Fully completed art will be given after receipt of second half. This is both for my personal protection as an artist, as well as for the comfort of the commissioner as my completion time can sometimes be long due to my ADHD/executive dysfunction.
Moving forward into 2020, my discord will be SFW, but 18+ only. This is a personal comfort thing. I'm 25 years old now, and just really don't want to spend time hanging out with teenagers.
I'm also going to start trying to schedule art streams again! Since this is the only place I can live stream due to my art computer's limitations, it just makes sense to like. Schedule them so more people are able to attend. I haven't decided exactly how that's going to look, but once I have I'm going to make an announcement and formatting guide somewhere for people to see so they can make an informed decision about joining the server.
I will also be regularly posting in the server again. This may or may not be cross posts from twitter and such, we'll see, but I DO plan on being more active there since it's been kind of dead.
I may also reformat the whole server again. We'll see!
Goals for 2021
Regular Adopt Sets -- 2-3 per month. Size, price, and number in set will be decided on case by case basis.
I'll be doing a monthly prompt for myself as well. This is just to get me back in the habit of creating things I like for myself to just feel... less bad about my art in general, and about making art. Also it'll be good for my artistic development i think?
Keeping a monthly sketchbook for warm-ups and in-between pieces. May be offered as a paid download at the end of the month, we'll see.
Might start a patreon? This is EXTREMELY dependent on what my userbase looks like. Tiers and rewards to be decided at a later date
Regular traditional sketches + scan and upload of said sketches. May also be offered in the monthly sketchbook.
Draw more self portraits & self-expression pieces! I don't know if any of yall realize how repressed I've been in the last year without therapy, and I did't either until I forced myself to pursue a vent piece earlier this month, and then felt immensely better afterward so. Going to start doing that! Maybe I'll feel better weee
Regular posting to social media! (see changes above)
Drawing less fantrolls bc I'm just bleh about them lately, drawing more original content!
Drawing fancontent that ISN'T homestuck? We'll see but I'd like to. I don't usually draw fan art bc like. Idk in my mind I don't feel like my interpretation of things is important or cool and I think thats a confidence thing and I'd like to change that so! I'm gonna start making more fan content.
Draw more full illustrations & backgrounds in general because I actually enjoy doing them it turns out?
Practice painting more !! Both traditionally and digitally....
Goals for January 2021
Finish at LEAST 1/4 of my art queue. I'm shooting for half, really, because fully completing it might actually kill me but! We'll see! Maybe I'll surprise myself. But I'm setting the goal low to keep my mental health problems in mind.
Finish and release the base set i've been working on, on and off. It's an homage to the old pixel doll days of 2009-2012, and the full sheet will be free to use (with stipulations, as I have some people blocked that I don't want using it). BUT! There will also be a mix and match .psd that will be pay to use (it'll be pay to use a, bc it'll be huge, and b, bc the edits to make it mix and match results in like 6 seperate bases in general so.... yeah. pay to use)
Finish the pay-to-use base pack i started in june (i may scrap and restart though, we'll see)
Possibly release all old p2u bases of mine in one pack on gumroad? price tbd but it will include old iterations as well as unreleased remakes.
Making some dainty-specific bases! One will be f2u, one will be p2u.
I have a whole dainty YCH set for january! I just have to finish the example... (:
Perhaps I'll be announcing a collaborative project later in the month! It depends on where each of us are at, at the time! We'll see! (: You should be excited though! It'll be a ton of fun!

Life and Health Update
This year has been quite horrible for me both in life and the health department, but somehow my mental health is probably the opposite of horrible. Maybe because I’ve come to terms with everything now.
STEAM
First thing first, Steam is dead. For me anyway. Although I’ve heard a lot of similar stories everywhere, it’s definitely not just me who’s going through this problem.
The first sign of trouble comes with the pricing. Steam’s biggest problem, in my opinion, is the market price. Everyone expects cheap games. 10 USD Visual Novel with 200k words, 100 CG, and full voice acting. If not, your stuff should be sold at 1 USD or risk a thumbs down (and obligatory “it’s not worth the price” review). Since it took me about a year to finish a game on average, you can guess how selling at 10 is not enough for me to survive, let alone 1 USD (lol)
Continuing that line of thread, discounts everywhere. No discount, no sale. Basically, you are expected to slash your game price all the time, and I don’t even include regional pricing, Steam taking 40%, California tax, etc - so we got like a few bucks a game at best. Most of the time it’s less than that.
In other words, Steam completely destroys the perception of 20 USD baseline of Indie Games that existed just a few years ago before Steam opened the flood gate.
Now, if someone argues to me, “But if it’s cheap, a lot of people will buy, so you get more money, right?” Well, maybe if it’s in 2015, where Steam still gives equal chance to everyone. Right now, that idea is laughable. Steam has changed the algorithm so much that it reduces the page view down to almost nothing. Wishlists are dropping every day instead of increasing, which has never happened until September this year. I don’t know what Steam is doing but with every update, things get worse and worse.
So what now? If Steam is no longer viable, should I sell somewhere else? Well, I have more things to blame Steam for this. Ever since the dawn of Steam, you can no longer sell games outside of it. My website no longer generates sales. Steam has completely monopolized the entire market.
TL:DR: Steam has eaten every Indie Games out there and killed most of them in the process.
HEALTH
I’ve probably noticed this as early as 2017. I realized that it’s inevitable that my game-making career will not last. I tried my best to delay it for as long as I can. Creating Patreon, taking commissions, making more games, etc. The only thing it did was making me more stressed and depressed by the workload, which accumulated to me suffering from GERD early this year.
For that matter, I still suffer from GERD, albeit not as bad as it used to. I still have to live with 8 pillows, cannot lie down on a flat surface, bend down, run or jump. I have to be super careful with what I eat or risk everything getting worse.
FUTURE
All sound super depressing, right? But, well, as I mentioned earlier, I’ve come to terms with everything now. I speculate with my current savings, I probably can work on new games for at most 2-3 years, then I will have to call it quit. I don’t intend to quit 100%, I’ll still try to make games as a hobby, so not all hope is lost. In fact, I already started helping my mother with accounting, that’s why my working speed is a bit slow recently. ^^;;;
Right now, my focus is to work on the games that I want to work the most. I’ve delayed making Silent-X forever because I was so uncertain about the future, but right now, I just want to enjoy making games while I still can.
TL:DR: Maybe getting sick is making me reevaluate my life. Worrying endlessly is not going to solve anything. Life is full of hurdles. I should just take it in stride.
Thank you for reading! I’ve always wanted to write this, but I didn’t want to write something so depressing. But now that I let that off my chest, it actually feels pretty good. ♪(┌・。・)┌

Artist Spotlights!
🎤 Penco 🥁 PikaPlushing 🎷 Pine
🎺 Pip 🎸 Primarinite 🎻 Propaganda101
Interview below the cut!
Introduce yourself
🎤 Hello hello! Penco here! I've been drawing ever since I was little but it's only been recently that I've started to take art a bit more seriously. I like digital art but traditional art has been my favourite form for years, particularly watercolour art. You can find me on Instagram and Tumblr as pencokun! 🥁 I'm a digital and traditional artist. I'm interested in video games, Japanese culture, Anime, Vocaloid, Cosplay, Sewing, etc. (its a longggg list www). I'm really quiet and awkward in person, but once I get to know you, I'm pretty much cursed trash. You can find my art accounts here: https://www.instagram.com/vladslab/ , https://twitter.com/vladslab98 , https://vladslab.tumblr.com/ 🎷 I recently turned 18 and reside in the chaotic state of Florida. A common theme in my drawings include clowns, angels and demons. I have a hard time finding interests but I like Demon Slayer and had a long addiction to Overwatch along with Osomatsu-san (which I don’t understand but glad I had fun hehe). I post art only on dA:@pinekun and iG:@pinefii :,D 🎺 I'm a being of chaos and insomnia, im both a traditional and digital artist as well as an aspiring animator you can find my art at my Instagram @jl_artsandcreations and Tumblr @jl-artsandcreations 🎸 I'm a 19 year old digital artist! My usual art has a very cartoon style, with my main drawing interests being furry oc's and Pokemon. My art blog is primarinite.tumblr.com and my art Twitter is twitter.com/primarinart. 🎻 Hey, the name's Wreath! I don't know how to write these types of things but i'll try! I like drawing, musical theater and fashion. I'm mainly a digital artist but I do traditional art on occasion. You can find me on Deviantart: https://www.deviantart.com/propaganda-101
Do you do commissions post? Where can we find the info?

Do you listen to music (or tv shows/films/anything else) when drawing?
🎤 Mostly music but I also like to work in silence whenever I'm working on details. 🥁 Usually I'll have my headphones on and listen to different types of music depending on the feel of the piece I'm trying to make. 🎷 I like to listen to music or watch an anime while I draw! 🎺 Yes, I listen to music while drawing 🎸 I have a playlist full of my favourite songs and go to that when I want some music. 🎻 Yup! I find that I work better if i'm listening to music especially if the music fits with the theme/aesthetic. But if i'm bored I might watch youtube while drawing.
What’s your favorite music artist/band? If you could ask your favorite band/music artist one question, what would it be?
🎤 My number one is definitely ABBA! I grew up with their music, after all. 🥁 I love anything Vocaloid, but if I had to choose, my favorite producer would probably be Neru or Deco*27. As for bands, Autoheart, Three Days Grace, Mother Mother and Breaking Benjamin. One question I'd love to ask any of them would be what inspired them to start music and what keeps them going. 🎷 My current favorite artist is Conan Gray but I also really appreciate Hobo Johnson. Hm, what’re their favorite songs? :^0 🎺 I don't really have a favorite music type if I like it I like it but if i had to choose it would be the singer Nico Collins sice i love all his songs 🎸 My favourite band is either Deaf Havana or Wolf Alice. 🎻 Though they are technically a fictional band, my favourite band is Hello Happy World. Their music warms my cold dead heart. I don't actually know what i'd ask them, i'd probably ask them for a hug and to have a good day.
Do you play an instrument? If not would you like to play one? Which one?
🎤 I can play the melodica but I'd love to be able to play the piano and any of the string quartet. 🥁 I've played the piano for nearly my whole life. 🎷 I used to play violin in orchestra for one year, which my tiny hands do not cooperate with. I also had one year of guitar class. 🎺 I don't play an instrument now but I use to play the clarinet but now i would like to play the piano 🎸 I would really like to learn the guitar one day! 🎻 I mean, if your voice counts as an instrument then yes I do, but if not then i'd like to play drums.
Which song(s) are you going to draw?
🎤 I've drawn Lenka's "Trouble Is A Friend" for this zine and I'll also be drawing Cecile Corbel's "Bal de Chats". 🥁 My main piece is Flower Tail feat. KAITO by yuukiss. 🎷 I think Conan Gray-Comfort Crowd, unless I have some big brain blast moment for another song. 🎺 Killing Butterflies by Lewis Blissett and if i finish this pices early i may do another using the song Lullaby by Ellise
🎸 Free to Breathe by Cold War Kids 🎻 Revolting Children from Matilda the Musical, because it's been stuck in my head for a full month.
What do you expect from this zine?
🎤 I expect to see real cool stuff! 🥁 I can't wait to see the wide spread of different types of music as well as all the talent of all the different artists! 🎷 To learn about what a zine community is like and to face the deadlines, as well as learn the process of one. 🎺 To broaden my horizons and get more attention on my blogs and art work 🎸 I'm excited to see all of the wonderful art being put forward for this. It's great to see so many artists from different walks of life coming together. 🎻 I expect to get introduced to a bunch of new music and artists.
Anything else you want to add?
🎤 Good luck y'all! 🥁 I'm so happy and excited to be a part of this project and I hope the best to absolutely everyone involved! Much love and take care! Please stay hydrated and sleep! 🎷 Thank you for your hard work! :^D

Stupid Powers
Well here's some art I wasn't planning on making at all But a few days ago when the Stupid Powers Challenge appeared in my notifications over on deviantArt, I knew I had to do it for the badge. After many cycles through the generator that I wasn't happy with (many I thought were amusing but I had no desire to draw them), I'd almost settled on a different headline than this one, but I decided to give it a go a few more times the next day, just to see if something I liked better popped up. And I'm glad I did because that time the headline I've illustrated here came up: Librarian Embarrasses Themselves on Livestream With Ability to Pet Every Cat They See I had the idea right away of a poor mousy librarian girl having fallen down with books everywhere, and kitty cats thoroughly enjoying her "power." And then after I started sketching I had the idea to add the Youtube video frame since the headline does say this happened during a Livestream. (And a disclaimer that I know the frame isn't 100% accurate; I only had a couple of livestreams I was actually willing to have in my Youtube watch history to choose from and they weren't quite exactly what I needed so I had to make some extra manual modifications.) Here's my logic; This girl is a popular Librarian Youtuber (let's pretend that's a thing that exists) and she was just doing a routine "I'm going to Livestream while I reshelve books so you guys can see the library and my process" when, somehow or another, a couple of cats got into the library while she was up on a ladder doing the reshelving, she saw them, and the next thing she knew...She was on the floor with the cats and many, many books around her. I also went with a slightly different process from my usual (as is maybe obvious) in order to get this done as quickly as possible, but still with a level of quality that I was comfortable with. I sketched as usual until I thought the girl and the cats were refined enough that I could do the linework without much guesswork (which involved taking some reference pictures of myself and a doll to get the right angle of the book and glasses). Then I scanned it into Photoshop and did the lines more or less as usual. When I moved on to the coloring, I decided to do some more simplified cell shading similar to what I did for I will be with You. It's not quite the same, as this one has linework and that one was lineless, but I think it works well enough. And I did briefly try to use only the colors from the #stupidpowers journal & generator, but in the end, it just wasn't working for me because of the details I had in mind. So I ended up using a more natural color for her skin and blonde for the hair (I was just in a blonde mood at the time), but otherwise, I did try to stick with the original palette. I did have to add a cream color for the book pages and her name tag, though. After that, I went out of my way to avoid having to draw in a background of many books. Not after how long it took me to do the background for World in a Book, and that was far fewer books in a much more organized manner. Originally, I'd considered actually just grabbing the shelves or part of them from that drawing, but after I had the Youtube frame and the girl and cats finished, that sounded less like a good idea, style-wise, and that wouldn't account for the mess of books there needed to be. So I went and grabbed a few different stock photos from PixaBay and edited them together, making adjustments until I was happy with how it looked. After that, the last step was to add a drop shadow to the girl and the cats so they'd pop against the background a little more since it felt like they were blending in a bit. I don't think this cartoon-character-on-a-real-background look will become a norm for me, but I think it works well enough in this instance. This also isn't my greatest, portfolio-worthy art, but I am pretty happy with how it turned out, all things considered. And with that, onward with the other art things I was working on before this got added to my regimen! ____ Artwork © me, MysticSparkleWings ____ Where to find me & my artwork: My Website | Commission Info + Prices | Ko-Fi | dA Print Shop | RedBubble | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram

Where to find me!
Since tumblr decided to self-destruct, here are my other social networks!
I might keep posting here for a little bit, but ultimately tumblr isn’t going to live much longer.
Twitter (art only)
Just art, very sparse comments and other posts
Twitter (personal)
Retweets, rambling, comments, shitposting. You’ll usually be talking to me here because this is the one I’m logged in on constantly!
Pillowfort
Hopefully soon to be the next “home” platform.
They’re currently in beta and are down until Wednesday to work on a security issue (other sites would stay up and not tell you so this is a good thing). Come December 5th, you should be able to purchase a beta account for $5. I highly recommend it since it supports a very AO3-like staff, and you can get started migrating early.
I’ll be uploading a lot of art there over the next few days!
(if you can’t find me, try this Zilleniose link! I updated the name but who knows)
Discord
Zillychu#0629 -- feel free to drop me a message! This is the preferred method for commission talk too.
AO3
I’ve only got a few tiny fic things up, but depending on how things turn out the next few months, I may start uploading art under the Zillychu pseud.
(More info under the cut! )
DeviantArt?
I have an old account there, but I am no longer uploading anything to it due to the nature of their copyright policy, and poor staffing choices. I do check it somewhat regularly for commissions.
FurAffinity? Weasyl?
I technically have accounts there under my old Zilleniose name, but I really don’t use them for anything other than commissions.
Instagram?
Nope. The format itself is awful imo, and their slack copyright policy is horrendous.
Amino?
You won’t catch me dead on that site unless it’s to submit DMCA takedown notices (which is a lot)
Facebook?
hahahAHAHAHAHA
Flight Rising?
Dude don’t even go there. The admins and staff are so corrupt if you say you aren’t too happy about how a certain feature is run, even on another site, you get banned. They’ve also banned users for doing commission deals on their site that don’t involve their in-game currency. Big Yikes. Check out Mythaura instead.
Wait a second you don’t post NSFW content, why do you care?
This adult content purge isn’t just an attack on questionable content, it’s a veritable nuke to get rid of a spider. Some of this stuff does need to be regulated, but SFW artists are going to get (and already are) caught in the crossfire. To add insults to injury, they aren’t even really doing much to the porn bots and illegal content distributors.
> Banning adult content creators shrinks the userbase as a whole.
Surprisingly, people who post/reblog adult content tend to actually like non-adult things as well! I get a lot of SFW commissions from people who post adult content. Everyone, even SFW artists and bloggers, will be losing followers and potential clients.
> Operating on nebulous rules doesn’t make a good social network.
It’s one thing to ban illegal content, or slightly adjust the lines of what’s considered harmful, hate speech, etc. It’s another thing to take an entire demographic that includes vast amounts of harmless material, and suddenly decide to ban it after many years of cultivating a userbase that spent a lot of time and energy building a presence here.
A website that willingly burns down a huge portion of its customers (yes, we’re customers, we’re giving them ad revenue) because Apple doesn’t approve of their poor management? They’ll burn you again the next second a penny or two is at stake.
> They’re literally demonizing women, and saying all feminine attributes are inherently sexual.
This is what pisses me off the most. I’m still seeing red. No body is inherently sexual, no skin is inherently sexual, no individual is inherently sexual just by existing. Saying otherwise is the core of misogyny and objectification.
All in all, I’m upset yet relieved. Tumblr has been the prime platform for fandom and art, but since the Yahoo acquisition, it’s been a cesspool of terrible management, a total lack of customer service, and absolutely no regard to their customers.
I’m a bit peeved about losing 30k followers, but while I’ve got a good customer base across other platforms, a lot of artists do not. And I’m enraged for them. That can make or break people who rely on that income.
I wish they could have had the decency to let us migrate in a reasonable time span. This whole fiasco has been nothing short of a disaster, and the plummeting stocks are a testament to that. Good riddance, tumblr.

fuck tumblr.
so, I’ve been pissed about this nsfw content thing all day. it’s screwing over a lot of content creators i really enjoy without giving them nearly enough warning, and slapping a nonfunctional bot and a ban on legal nsfw content after YEARS of rampant cp and other shit is not only sloppy, but it isn’t a solution. if staff wants to run a social media site, they have to invest the time and manpower into moderating it. but, for now, it looks like they would rather keep being lazy, morally bankrupt slobs. a bot that flags everything under the sun- including dogs, ffs- and misses legitimate nsfw content isn’t a solution. not only will it fuck over the entire userbase, it will let illegal content slip through. it’s almost like you actually have to commit to fixing problems, instead of slapping shoddy quick fixes on em, huh!
(and that’s to say nothing of the fact that they let cp, nazis, etc use their website for YEARS and didn’t “care” until their app got taken out of the app stores. but. you know. lol w/e i guess.)
real talk, despite my outrage at the way it was being handled i was going to continue using the site, because it’s STILL my favorite format in which to post art. I’m not a nsfw artist, personally, and I wasn’t sure I was willing to give up the website- and follower base- I’ve had for years.
then I started scrolling through my posts.
YEARS-OLD posts that are lightyears from being nsfw are flagged. monochrome sketches of dogs, a neon zenyatta, an esk.. My posts are being knocked down at random with no notif to me. (but the nudity stays!! lol. so effective, staff) So it looks like I can’t continue to use the website even if I want to. I honestly can’t believe that staff expects us to helicopter parent all of our content and beg them to reinstate posts that abide by community guidelines.
so like. fuck it. i’m taking a hiatus that may very well be indefinite. if staff fixes their shit, I’d love to come back, but I suppose we’ll have to wait and see.
you can catch me on deviantart and twitter, which I’m gonna try to be more active on. I’ll be looking at pillowfort when it comes back up from maintenance; if I make an account there I’ll link it on tumblr and da, and I’ll be using the same handle. if you know of any artist-friendly websites that are good for hosting nsfw / erotica, I’d appreciate it if you’d let me know. and
if you migrate over to either of those accounts from here, I’d appreciate it if you’d tell me hi. It’d be nice to know I get to keep some of you.
And on that note, I want to thank all of you for coming along on this ride with me, from the very bottom of my bitter little heart. this blog is where I made the transition from being entirely overlooked to people actually caring about the things I make, and nothing can tarnish that. I’ve had incredible, unbelievable experiences here- along with a few that were just outright hilarious. I took my first commissions, I got my first anon hate, I cried over some of the unbelievably kind and encouraging things you said to me, and I couldn’t possibly appreciate it more.
so to all of my followers, thank you.
and to @staff - sit on this feedback and spin.
