if adulthood scares you because it seems more serious than school/uni, please be informed that me and my coworkers (aged 23-31) spent half an hour printing out tiny pictures of our other coworker, hid them around the lab, and took bets on which ones he'd find first; several weeks ago, one of these people also hid in a large cardboard box for ten entire minutes just so that he could jump out at someone as a surprise.

in my previous job, i had a coworker in his late thirties who would sneak post-it notes onto my desk with drawings of carrots when i wasn't looking. my dad, in his sixties, bought a tiny multi-coloured light for his ambulance to turn driving into a mini disco.

no matter their age, people sort of have an instinctive and deeply unavoidable urge to Be Silly, and a good deal of the people you consider Serious and Responsible are actually doing this shit behind the scenes. sometimes work will genuinely be difficult and stressful and serious, but it will also probably be full of Goddamn Shenanigans.

Here’s my take on the whole audio books vs. reading:

Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.

The actual difference is

when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names

when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names

i love it when characters are codependent. i love it when losing someone feels like losing a limb. i love it when two people "complete" each other so wholly and terribly that one can barely function without the other. i love it when the fear of losing the only person who understands them is so all-consuming they'll destroy anything to stay together, including themselves.

Literally begging anyone who can vote in US elections to vote, and to vote against Trump. Which means voting for Harris, not abstaining or voting third party.

My family actually did move here from an authoritarian country, where voting literally didn't matter, they literally did throw out your vote, and they literally did assassinate citizens who spoke out against them.

We would all very much like to keep living in a country where those things are not the case!

You know, the same things that Trump and his stooges have openly said they want to do. And two of the main propaganda lines for why people in the US shouldn't vote, which is a lie.

Voting matters. The parties are not the same.

And make sure to vote in down-ballot races!!!

And like. The fact that voting matters in the US is a very real reason for hope. It is something you should genuinely appreciate. We can make a difference.

And a lot of people risked their lives or even died to earn that right, and it's a right not everyone has.
