San had been flirting with Y/N, the group's makeup artist, for almost a year. His intentions had always been clear in his own mind- he wanted her, physically, with a fervor that bordered on obsession. He admired her from a distance during the chaotic days of rehearsals and performances, his gaze often lingering longer than it should. But she had always been unavailable, locked in a long-term relationship that kept her just out of reach.

Tonight, however, San noticed a change in her demeanor. Y/N was usually lively, her presence bright and engaging, but tonight she seemed withdrawn, her smile less frequent, but San's focus was fixed on her. He knew something was different.

As the evening wore on, the group moved to the backstage area, where the atmosphere was filled with laughter, chatter and the clinking of glasses. San, ever observant, grabbed two cups of alcohol and made his way over to Y/N. She was sitting off to the side, her eyes distant and reflective.

"Hey," San said, handing her a cup. "You were amazing tonight, as always."

Y/N managed a small smile. "Thanks, San."

He took a seat beside her, their shoulders almost touching. "You okay? You seem a bit... off."

She sighed, taking a sip from her cup before speaking. "I broke up with my partner two weeks ago."

San's heart skipped a beat. He knew he should feel sympathy, but all he felt was an overwhelming rush of opportunity. "I'm sorry to hear that," he said, trying to keep his tone gentle. "That must be tough."

She clinked her cup against his, the ghost of a smile playing on her lips. They drank together, the alcohol burning a path down their throats and loosening ther inhibitions. One drink led to another and soon, the space between them seemed to shrink.

As the night progressed, the conversation flowed more freely, the alcohol dulling the edges of Y/N's pain and sharpening San's desire. He leaned closer, his hand brushing against her, his voice dropping to a seductive whisper.

"You know, Y/N, I've always admired you. You're so talented and beautiful."

Y/N looked at him, her eyes searching his. "San, I'm not sure this is a good idea..."

But her words lacked conviction and San seized the moment. "Why not? We're both adults. We can decide what we want."

He leaned in, his lips capturing hers in a heated kiss. She responded almost immediately, her hands tangling in his hair as the last of her reservations melted away. The kiss deepened, becoming more urgent more demanding. San's hands roamed her body, pulling her closer as their need for each other grew.

Before they knew it, they were stumbling down the hall towards San's room, their hands and lips never leaving each other. The door barely closed behind them before they were tearing at each other's clothes, driven by a primal, drunken lust that left no room for tenderness or affection.

San pushed Y/N against the wall, his mouth devouring hers as his hands explored her exposed skin. She moaned into his mouth, her fingers clawing at his back as she wrapped her legs around his waist. He lifted her effortlessly, carrying her to the bed where he threw her down and followed her, their bodies colliding in a frenzy of need.

"Fuck, Y/N, you're so hot," San growled into her ear, his hands gripping her hips as he positioned himself above her. "I've wanted this for so long."

China’s “danmei” genre is booming in the West

The article “How to Tell Chinese Stories Well” (July 14) overlooks an important genre that is growing in popularity in the West and is more reflective of contemporary Chinese life than works from decades ago such as Shanghai Life and Death or The Wild Swans.

I am referring to the danmei genre of online novels. Danmei is a term that originated in Japan. This new genre has spawned a number of very successful online novels that have been adapted into extremely popular Chinese TV series and translated into English. A prominent example is The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, which was adapted into the Chinese TV series The Untamed in 2019 and translated into English and is available on Amazon.

Untamed made two young actors, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo, famous in China. Another very successful work is Erha and His White Cat Shizun, which made the New York Times bestseller list in English. The English version has a wide readership in the West and is available in paperback.

Danmei novels celebrate “boys’ love”, which is officially frowned upon. A major production based on Erha, produced by Tencent, has been shelved. But the genre has a large following in China and abroad, inspiring fan art, fan works and merchandise.

Many danmei online novels are written by women for women. Why are they so popular among Chinese women? Feyre had already had a talk with Rhysand, who was more than happy for her to spend time with her friends.

As the golden hues of sunset bathed the sky in its warm glow, Feyre couldn't help but feel a flutter of nerves mixed with anticipation. Her heart pounded in her chest like a wild bird trapped within its cage, but she tried to push those feelings aside.

She was going to meet someone new tonight, you, someone who held a special place in Ressina's heart. Ressina, her dear friend, had been talking about you for weeks now. It seemed that you were not only talented but also kind-hearted. And despite all these praises. The smell of fresh paint still lingered on Feyre's fingers, reminding her of the hours spent painting.

Feyre's mind wandered as she thought about the late evening ahead. She was both anxious and curious, eager to see how things would unfold between herself and you. There was an evident sincerity in your voice when you praised Feyre’s talent, causing a flush of pink to bloom across her cheeks. It was clear that your words meant more than mere compliments, they were spoken from admiration, the type that didn't need to be faked or forced.

Feyre easily confessed her love for painting, without flaunting or boasting. Instead, it was presented like the revelation of a fond secret, a source of joy that fueled the passionate pursuit of art.

Your own surprise seemed genuine as well. Learning oneself was considered a feat among skilled artists, especially since not all painters were fortunate enough to learn from mentors or experienced artists. However, despite her lack of formal training, Feyre's talent spoke volumes

"But..." you trailed off, thinking of something. Then, your face broke into a wide grin. "Maybe that's why your paintings seem so real. So raw, like a peek into your soul."

"And maybe that's why you keep painting Rhysand." You tease Feyre, motioning to the three paintings she had made of her mate and husband.

Your comment about the numerous portraits of Rhysand hung around the room to dry caused Feyre's cheeks to turn a shade of crimson that matched the sunset. She glanced down at her feet, avoiding eye contact as she chuckled nervously.

"I guess he's inspiring," she admitted with a shrug, trying to play it cool despite the obvious blush on her face. "He's got this... presence. It's impossible to ignore."

There was a momentary pause in the conversation as you really looked at the paintings. They weren't merely sketches or scribbles; each piece was carefully crafted, showing off Rhysand's strong features and piercing gaze. Each portrait captured him in different moods, one in particular with a babe, Nyx, you knew, "Also, can't help it," Feyre admitted with a shrug, trying to play down the importance of Rhysand in her life. "He's just so damn gorgeous, isn't he?" she added with a playful wink, trying to lighten the mood.

"I'm not sure how you want me to respond to that..." You both snort softly at your statement.

"But seriously though, he's my muse. He inspires me in ways that nothing else does." Feyre sighed, and you smiled, watching her.

Ressina returned carrying a tray laden with plates of food from Rita's. The smell wafting from the dishes was mouth-watering, a mix of spices and herbs that promised flavours bursting with life. There was pasta, freshly baked bread, and a salad that looked like it was straight out of a garden.

"Hope you guys are hungry!" Ressina announced cheerfully, setting the tray down on the table. "Rita's never disappoints!"

She then turned to Feyre, handing her a plate filled with her favourite dish. "Here, Feyre. I remembered that your favourites, got you everything." She handed you yours, "And yours too, y/n!"

As Ressina served the food, Feyre thanked her with a warm smile. "Thank you, Ressina. This looks amazing!"

"You didn't have to spend money on me though..." Feyre whispered, "I'd feel bad."

"Hey, no worries. I wanted to," Ressina replied, giving Feyre a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "And besides, Rita's is worth every coin. Trust me."

Introducing My Characters!

Thanks so much to everyone that voted in the naming polls! I am excited to show you all the final results and a little more about them.

These characters are for my personal WIP novel "Big Queer Liminal Train Trip"

It's about four queer arts students in New York who live on the West coast, and are taking a train back to their families for the summer. They're taking the train for some adventure! (and definitely not cause they want to prolong the time til they're back home).

They all have their own motivations and needs and wants related to family, career, themselves, and each other. But the train itself also has it's own needs and wants. And they're about to find out what those are.

I would classify it as Adult Paranormal/Science fiction.

Now, On to the main characters!:

This is Elias!

He/him, trans man, gay, aromantic , allosexual. His major is Actor/Singer. Elias is like a brother to everyone, platonic best friend love with Avi especially. He calls Margo "Mango", and Raine and Elias joke like siblings, play jokes on one another. Elias has a family that accepts him for who he is, but not "all the way" (for example, his mom saying stuff like, "Why do you need to go on hormones to be yourself").

This is Raine!

They/them, Agender, queer, allosexual and alloromantic.

Raine's Major is Music Composition, and they play the Violin. Their major stresses them out and all their friends insist they change it but they refuse (people pleaser for their parents).

Raine and Avi have had a crush on one another before, and almost kissed but then it was awkward and they didn’t so they just went their separate ways to dorms. Meanwhile now, Raine and Margo are in a romantic relationship eventually/getting there.

This is Avi!

Ze/zir, Bigender, queer, aromantic, allosexual.

Avi is the Meme lord of the group. It suits zir as zir Major is Activism Art. Ze does large scale projects as well as election memes, skits, and much more. Ze is looked up to as a meme saint by the rest of the group. Ze has a family that doesn't understand them and their humor one bit, however. Margo and Avi spend a lot of time together engaging in their shared interests like that they’re both in an art related major.

This is Margo!

She/They, genderfluid, Demi-girl, Asexual, Panromantic (changed from alloromantic to specify their romantic attraction).

Margo's Major is Digital Artist! She has been drawing since they were a little kid, and they have a talent for drawing backgrounds and details that her peers are jealous of. They couldn't be more happy with their major, but her family disagrees. Saying she's "Wasting their money" on art school. You mean the government's money from the scholarships she won? While simultaneously letting them go to art school? Kinda hypocritical there.

Anyway, her favorite things to do are take commissions from their friends, and they give them MANY. Though try as Elias might to get her to draw porn (it's where the money maker is, he says), that's just not her jam.

I hope you all enjoyed the descriptions! I'll be sharing more about them as time goes on and I flesh out the story and their relationships!

Sandman March Mania: Winner Announcement

This is it, everyone! Since March 25th, you voted every day. Four rounds, 24 amazingly talented artists who qualified, and each time one of them had to go, it hurt a little.

But we didn’t do this because we truly see these artists in competition with each other. Our goal was to get to know them better, share what moves us about their art, also have fun with the… weird depictions and generally just acknowledge:

You guys might be tired of me saying this but just, it means so much to me！ And… uhm yeah, when I said i should never exist in this fandom, there was actually a much deeper meaning behind it. I'll probably never explain this but I understand what you mean about activity and stuff. I may never know what I look like from an outsider's perspective. Just I don't have free time anymore. I have serious responsibilities in my private life now and for this reason you will see me posting commissions from time to time. Favorite TOA-related memories? Byleth losing HP while fighting a fish with Arden's Frederick in order to impress fishermen, breaking his hand on a table, and then getting kicked in the nuts. All in the same event.

(Having been cursed with bad luck his whole life, as an abandoned orphan, Korekiyo finds fascination in the idea and concept of luck, considering it "beautiful". This causes him to be seen as unnerving by others, in spite of his otherwise affable personality. With his massive collection of lucky charms on his person, Korekiyo is determined to turn his bad luck around, survive the killing game, and find his missing sister.)

Kokichi Ouma, Ultimate Clockmaker

(This enigmatic young lad, in spite of his immature appearance and personality, is a prodigy when it comes to handcrafting only the most intricate of clocks. His appearance and personality also belies a conniving chronic liar, who speaks entirely in clock and time-related metaphors and seems intent on toying with and confusing his fellow classmates.)

Maki Harukawa, Ultimate Plastic Surgeon

(While a master in all matters of surgical procedures, Maki seems to specialize in cosmetic surgeries for a massive number of celebrities. In spite of this, Maki claims to dislike performing surgery and can't stand the self-centered attitudes of the people she performs her surgeries on. Both in and out of the operating room, Maki is cold and aloof, not willing to engage in small talk.)

Kirumi Tojo, Ultimate Personal Stylist

(Famous for her attractive appearance and gothic punk fashion, all the spikes and leather belie a loyal and kind-hearted woman. If one wishes to improve their wardrobe, Kirumi will always be there to help, with her knowledge on all matters fashion. However, while she may normally be passive and obedient, let's just say that this leather hides silk, which also hides steel.)

Rantaro Amami, Ultimate Zither Player

(While infamous for his travels and the wealthy family that he is a part of, Rantaro is even more famous for his innate talent in playing the many instruments of the zither family. Rantaro is known amongst the class for his bountiful wisdom, his coolheadedness, and his attractive appearance. Having 12 younger sisters back home, Rantaro appears to have a brotherly instinct, when it comes to a couple of people in his class.)

Shuichi Saihara, Ultimate Effects Artist

(As the son of a famous actor and screenwriter, it was only natural that Shuichi would be an expert on the ins and outs of the film industry, although his main speciality is in special effects. In spite of his status as a blueblooded prodigy, Shuichi is also extraordinarily humble and timid, possibly due to all the hotshot actors overshadowing him.)

Kaede Akamatsu, Ultimate Jockey

(Having a love for horses since she was young, Kaede won many horse-racing competitions and always has a spot in her heart for all of her horses. Cheerful and energetic even off the track, in spite of her legions of fans, Kaede is also rather socially-inept, spending more time with horses than with actual people.)

Himiko Yumeno, Ultimate Matchmaker

(Referring to herself as the "Ultimate Cupid" and fashioning herself in a similar manner, if Himiko senses the right chemistry between two people, they would be destined to be happy together. Outside of romantic pursuits however, in which case she becomes extremely conniving and ambitious, Himiko is incredibly lazy and would only ever put in the absolute minimum effort, if asked to do something.)

(Having been raised away from civilization by a bunch of eldritch horrors, Gonta is an expert when it comes to all matters horror. He is very enthusiastic when it comes to the topic of horror, and would love to talk at lengths about them. In spite of his creepy fascination and bad tendency to psychoanalyze, Gonta prides himself on being a kindhearted "gentleman" to everybody.)

(Truly an academic role model in every sense of the word, Ryoma is renowned throughout his school for topping academic charts and being diligent towards his studies, and always being eager to assist other people. He is even a star member of his school's tennis club. According to some unreliable sources, though, Ryoma is more lazy and pessimistic than what his public appearance would seem.)

(Specializing in the studies of pheromones and aphrodisiacs, Miu is about as perverted and bawdy as one would expect from someone with that line of study. In addition to her sex-laden speech, Miu is also highly proud of her intellect and appearance, and is always ready to put down other people for their perceived lack of intelligence/beauty. (Raised by a former bowling champion, it didn't take long for Kiibo to pick up their father's craft with ease, eventually joining the best bowling league in the country. Having spent a good portion of his life having their favorite sport be belittled and mocked, Kiibo is notably sensitive and overprotective, when it comes to the topic of their talent. Apart from that, they remain kind and cheerful.)

(Despite referring to himself as the "Modern Day Da Vinci" and being genuinely talented at all artistic pursuits, Kaito's talent is one of the more sketchy and morally ambiguous of his class. (Standing up for the rights of women everywhere, Tenko wants nothing more than to dismantle the patriarchy hanging over the heads of innocent women everywhere. Tenko is also well-known for her contributions towards the lesbian/trixic community, garnering a reputation as a lesbian icon. Ignoring her vilurant hatred of men, especially male authority figures, Tenko is cheerful and warmhearted.)

Angie Yonaga, Ultimate Inspirational Speaker
