Even with Hobie's terrible voice (he's so off key) there is no one in the world that Ansi would rather duet with than Hobie.

No matter where they are whether it's Ansi's apartment, Hobie's boat, or Aunt May's house, if the radio's playing and a song they both know comes on they're both about to be belting out the lyrics.

Ansi sings Hobie love ballads as gifts because he knows how much Hobie loves his singing voice. (And she honestly just loves to sing so much.)

Hobie snagged parts to put together a karaoke set up on his boat with a personalized mic for Ansi. (It's orange and it has her spider symbol on it.)

Singing is the one thing in Ansi's life that hasn't been exploited. It's not something that he wants to share with the world. But singing with Hobie puts him at ease. She gets to do something that she loves with someone who means everything to her. And nobody can take that away from her.

Even just reordering the songs in bway hadestown so that Eurydice is on stage during Why We Build The Wall and Our Lady of the Underground would improve things so much….you have the “step into my office” bit, you have Persephone react to that, then you have the song where Eurydice meets the other workers and sees what’s actually going on, then Why We Build the Wall is her having apparently given up and lost her identity like the others…..THEN at the end of Why We Build the Wall, Hades leaves the stage and the other workers turn to Eurydice and take her by the hands and smile, and they bring her to Persephone’s bar and they’re all in the chorus for Our Lady and Eurydice realizes that the people here ARE still people and they do have somewhere to talk where Hades isn’t listening (and all the lyrics to Our Lady actually make sense again lmao, ESPECIALLY “there’s a crack in the wall”)

Also I just really want to see Persephone and Eurydice interact on stage in this context….like Eurydice is a little wary bc she’s pretty sure Persephone is jealous of her, but Persephone knows what’s up and sees the new girl that Hades tricked and discarded and picks her out of the crowd during the musical interlude, and twirls her around while the rest of the cast cheers, and gives her a drink and sends her back to her seat…Eurydice stares at her like she’s entranced…idk. Just a little something that sets up how close they are in “I Raise My Cup to Him” as well as Persephone’s sympathy for Orpheus and Eurydice specifically

#obviously the simplest changes would be like. giving everyone their concept album verses in 'way down' and 'doubt comes in'#but 'our lady' is still the thing that makes me angriest lmao #i know there needs to more more connective plot in the show and i actually LIKE some of it during this part #but in the album you can HEAR anais singing on 'why we build the wall' and 'our lady of the underground'#bc her voice is so distinctive! so you know eurydice is there!#and that's how you know she's seeing the two different worlds that exist inside hadestown. just hearing anais in the chorus #the stage show adds so much stuff and yet restricts the world of the story in a major way. ugh #(i saw the touring production and it was very beautiful! not quite as frustrating as bway because i was prepared for the changes)#(but still deeply frustrating. also the orpheus singer was WAY better than reeve but the eurydice singer was very inferior to eva)#(so i have still never seen a production where i really liked both leads. rip)#hadestown

#vocaloid #pinochiop #i saw this video link wasn't posted anywhere on tumblr and thought i should share #(i will be gendering protagonist as 'she' and writer as 'he' for simplicity)#anyway to me in my interpretation the song is written about specific person's reaction to mental illness/neurodivergence.#the fact that mushrooms are growing on heads is a reference to mushrooms only growing in darkness and-#-and is a common anime trope to imply that a character is depressed or a shut in (shimeji situation did this) (also a panel in ohshs)#there is this familiarity between the singer and who she is singing to (presumably the writer) like these are the words of a past lover..#making it feel like the pinop almost HATES the protagonist of this song. that he was called the one with the 'mushroom mother'#but it almost feels like that protagonist does become obsessed a little with the idea of not catching a mental illness from pinop #but then in their obsession of 'not catching it' they start exhibiting like a hypochondriac ocd but for mentalillnesses #the 'your mother is a mushroom mother' to me is a teasing (almost child like) jeer almost felt aimed at pinop/writer.#to imply that.. because his mother gave birth to him she's a mushroom mother. because he is a mushroom (like a yo mama joke)#in my mind the writer is insulting himself here. that the chorus is insulting him in that teasey child's tone #anyway later in the song the protagonist gets more paranoid about others spreading their emotional toxicity to her.#and in her sanitation attempt she winds up hurting other people (implied i think. because of the violence of setting mushrooms on fire)#eventually though I think she stops seeing mental illnesses as a flaw and instead of 100% hating she jumps to 100% loving them #tbh this interpretation is the shakiest part (because why would she put on a mushroom on her head in the end) (what does it mean??)#I think it means that she's embraced being allowed to be publicly mentally ill. and she takes that 'being allowed' as permission to be crue #the protagonist was cruel and toxic even before this transformation #then the writer.. in some perspective thinks about how in retrospect her actions were hollow #the writer surmises that living in that cycle would feel emotionally unfulfilling .. empty.#the writer here is coping with what was done to them in the past.. the person that hurt them enough to write this song #then now that she has those mushrooms growing on her head/is depressed and so the chorus of mushroom mother returns to poke fun at her #and in the end i think the writer joins in in that gloating chorus #The writer feels mixed on celebrating an 'ex' being confirmed as something he was for having #but there is also the celebration of being petty. and the franticness those sort of mixed emotions would give u..#and in the end the writer thinks that in the future that the world will keep changing on it's view on the mentally ill #but because those ending lines are repeated twice i think he's implying that there is a cycle to it #that there is a resignation to the world moving and changing into something else but not getting totally better
