Thinking about the fact that, to pull Gale from the stone and get him in the game at all, you have to decide to try to touch an extremely dangerous looking swirling mass of unstable magic. Something that is, objectively, a terrible idea
Like, the options it gives you are to either touch the sigil or leave, and if you leave you just... don't get Gale in the party
You have to take the risk. You have to let your curiosity override your common sense. You have to look at this unstable, possibly dangerous malfunctioning magic sigil and go "...Ok, but what if I poke it?"
In short, to get Gale in your party, you have to do exactly what he would in that situation, and indulge in a moment of reckless curiosity. And I just think that's delightful
#meta#gale dekarios#gale of waterdeep#i'm positive this has all been said before but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#on a meta-gaming level of course it's just a matter of committing to the bit#the equivalent of that time in an actual dnd game when i said ''idk guys this sounds like a plot hook. we should probably go check it out''#but on a watsonian/character level? objectively not a great choice safety-wise#my husband for instance completely missed gale at first because he went ''...i'm not touching that thing it seems dangerous''#and idk. i just kinda love that for him. perfect introduction. nice little litmus test for if you can handle his chaos lol

watching this Paul Gross thing he did in the 80s (chasing rainbows) and ive been enjoying it despite the knowledge that there'd be some kind of a het love triangle thing going on and that the other two characters simply aren't that interesting, but. oh boy. is... is the woman in this constellation meant to be read as a villain???
(ME DOING A BREAKDOWN ABOUT A SHOW NOBODY WATCHED AND NOBODY WILL WATCH ✌)
PG character -- a working class man who is fundamentally good to everyone in trouble he meets, to the detriment of himself more often than not, but scraping by until he gets his big break (which he also works very hard for) and becomes the owner of a relatively successful nightclub
other two characters -- come from rich backgrounds and sort of suck him into their lives by the coincidence of the two men having been at the front in WWI and PG saving the other guy's life and consistently don't realise he's got way more working against him than they do
the lady in this situation initially dumping said other guy "to find herself" when he comes back from the war, which, fair, it's 1919, she's going to college, she wants to be sure she can make informed choices, chill enough
said lady imprinting on our working class heroic character, because he's working class. i just. cannot read it any other way. she clocks him as such at a party (that he was invited to as a veteran) straight away, insults him, throws water in his face when he doesn't take it, but simultaneously is into the whole idk... rugged unpolished nature of him
discovers a diary written during the war with poetry in it that she presumes was written by him -- steals the book and reads it out loud to her college friends and is offended that he's not flattered by this
despite numerous protests that he didn't write the poetry (and he didn't, it was written by a kid he tried to save who was later shot in front of him for desertion), she just doesn't believe him, because she desperately wants him to have the "hidden depths of a poet" or some nonsense. never mind his actual good traits -- his kind-heartedness, his tenacity, his savvy, his sense of humour, nonono she wants a Poet
also, she is a failed playwright. she writes terrible plays about things she doesn't understand (including the war), asks his opinion and is offended when he (under duress) admits he doesn't think they're very good
and now she fucking... copied down the poems without his knowledge and published them under his name with an article she wrote about said hidden poetic depths!!!! gets incredibly offended when he is upset about this, first of all with a "I thought you'd be pleased" then with a "you should be happy for me for getting an article I wrote published in a major newspaper!" (because at the end of the day it's about her)
he initially -- not knowing how to handle the situation -- goes along with it, because what do you do now? go to the publishers and say it wasn't you? out yourself in the news?? I mean??? but pretty quickly re-emphasises He Did Not Write Those Poems!
the plot then mysteriously seems to pivot into saying it was his fault for "stringing her along" because the "hidden poet" bit was the only thing she really liked about him... and she vehemently denies this (but girl, tell me one other thing that draws you to him, and you can't say because he's pretty!) and says he's hurt/betrayed her by lying. i just... don't know... if the plot... is writing her like this because she's meant to be a self-absorbed college girl who has her working class dream-boat fantasy get broken, or if it's meant to be presented as him having betrayed her. it is. unclear
and now she's threatening to write a new article about how he's a fraud. im just. waiting for the plot to point out that she's done all of this herself and she also won't suffer for any of it in the way he will...
this boy can do better than these rich kid tourists 😔
#i think because it's kinda presented as a Big Tragic Romance and im just.#she's just a terrible person. and if that were the Point then great. but im not sure that is the point#i think it's meant to look like a give-and-take where they accidentally hurt each other but...#one of them consistently makes poor decisions and forgets the other person has agency.... and the other is just Hanging On#this whole plot sounds like something you'd read on a reddit AITA#im watching tv#im watching chasing rainbows#paul gross#ive been Suffering for two episodes

For a little over a year now I've been slowly amassing a collection of ninja turtle books and I wanna talk about some of them. Picture books, joke books, novelizations, coloring and activity books... For all different iterations and all different reading levels.
Well ok they are pretty much just kids books let's be real, but some of them are really great and it's nice to see some new adventures. I've loved ninja turtles for as long as I can remember. Watched the '80s cartoon when I was young, read the comics, caught '03 in it's first season and was hooked immediately, and have pretty well kept up with everything since, with the exception of IDW (SOON.) These books have given me a new appreciation to the TMNT.
At first I just wanted to get my hands on some '03 books, but I was at the same time falling back in love with the '87 show, and books related to that series ended up being a lot easier to find. There's new adventures, some adapted episodes of the cartoon, some from Archie comics...
A rap song to fight drugs, and a little book adapting the first live action film with the '87 boys (Raphael defenestration and all, LOOK AT MY BOY THEY KILLED HIM)
I wasn't really planning to get so many, but THESE 4 delightful books really had an effect on me.
I'll probably make another post just about these 4 books sometime because I have so much to say on them! There is such a charm about them and they've changed how I think about the '87 and Archie turtles. They also act as a prequel series to either! Each book focuses on a different turtle. You see them in some of their pre-series naivete, learning and exploring and joking around. It's really no surprise they're so good, given the author, Stephen Murphy, was a primary writer for TMNT Adventures (Archie) and Tales of the TMNT. '03 girlies, he co-authored "Sons of the Silent Age" in Mirage and was a writer for several '03 episodes!
Anyway, after reading these, I really started searching.
It's so interesting to me to read these characters in this form, from different authors with their own ideas about the turtles.
There's several unique stories in the '03 books, with wonderful illustrations. These goofballs just shine even in the silliest of the adventures. Stephen Murphy, again, shows up here as an author of '03 books. I really love how he writes the boys.
'12 tends to just be episode adaptations, although I haven't actually read the novels I have yet. '12 books have been pretty easy to find so they have not been high on my priority list, but I try to grab ones that look like unique tales!
Mikey's Nightwatcher Scrapbook was so adorable, one of my favorites! Newspaper clippings, date and time stamped sightings and attempts at catching/talking to the elusive Nightwatcher... It's very fun and endearing! The Rise novels are just retellings of episodes, but each story is told by a different character! It's not much, but it's a cute detail.
finding coloring books is HARD, and even harder is finding one that's not been used. The joke book is full of the most garbage jokes but I had some fun torturing friends with it. :3
The coloring books in particular I'd like to scan sometime to share. I remember seeing '03 coloring books around all the time while the show was running; now you're liable to find yourself in a bidding war for one! (against me)
These books have become so important to me and I wanna talk about them more so I might just start taking one every now and then and ranting about it in a post. I have about 80 various books now, and a decent list of more I'm on the hunt for.
#tmnt#tmnt books#book rant#thank you for reading me be excited about children's books#There was actually one book for '03#whose synopsis sounded suspiciously like the plot of an '87 book#so I bought it and low and behold#Steven Murphy is the author of both#there were only some key similarities#not a wholesale copy of his own previous story#and natch both are good#anyway books are great kids#all kinds of books

Hey! Since freydis moon ended up being a fake ass latine, i raise you La Nación De Las Bestias by Mariana Palova: an actual latinoamerican woman writing about alchemy, voodoo and dark magic in Louisiana, with a male gay couple and queer characters, its originally written in spanish but has been translated into english as The Lord of Sabbath
#like sorry but even their plot sounded too much like mariana's#actually im a bit wary of recomending this to non latin americans because usamericans are too much of puritans sometimes#but its a great series#cata reads

max and charles road tripping across america?? who am I. (this idea started consuming my brain approx 24 hours ago and I haven’t been able to let it go since)
the writing process on this one is fast (right now) but it’s still gonna be a long fic so here’s a snippet in the meantime just for fun:
"It's mental," Max says, because he's never really trusted ovals. Feels unnatural, like you're trapped on a hamster wheel, no open road in front of you. "It's amazing," Charles breathes out, eyes lighting up. Max can see it then; Charles, glorious and unburdened under the midwestern sun. He thinks it'd be something pretty special to watch. Just Charles and a car, nothing else. Nothing but raw speed and a healthy dose of insanity. "You think you'd like to do it?" "Maybe, one day," Charles grins, climbing up the banking. "You'd win," Max says, and Charles turns to stare at him. "What?" He shrugs, it's the truth. "In a spec series, nothing to hold you back. Of course you'd win." No Ferrari to hold you back. The comment hangs there, for a minute, itching to be heard. Max swears he can feel a prickle on the back of his neck, like any minute he'll turn around and the ghost of Enzo Ferrari will be standing there, glaring at him under the Indianapolis sunshine. Ferrari, he thinks again. Just to taunt himself. Like Beetlejuice. He glances over his shoulder, wonders if he's going crazy. "Maybe I would," Charles concedes, shaking Max out of his stupor. It's reassuring in a way, that Charles hasn't lost sight of his own abilities despite the clusterfuck around him. He smirks at Max. "Since you're too scared to race ovals." It sounds, in Charles' own complicated way, like a promise. You're the only one that could ever catch me. "I'm not scared," Max protests, though he does glance at the banking under him in suspicion. "I just don't like them." Charles laughs, like he sees right through him. "You can admit it, we're the only ones here."
#inspired by:#1. my obsession with driving west and that robert penn warren quote#2. the laguna seca raceway as both a destination and plot point bc reasons#3. road trips as a plot device#also the song indiana by david mead#charles is going through it so he rents a ford GT and drags max along with him#(yes. a ford. I know. hes really going through it)#it sounds real weird but it makes sense in my brain so im gonna roll with it#im blaming this scene on my boyfriends offhand comment that charles would dominate a spec series bc on pure pace he's just there#and that he's the exact right level of unhinged for indycar#great hot take babe 10/10#lestappen#snippet#my writing

watching playthroughs of a couple new indie horror games people are raving about rn and just sitting there after like oh thats it ?
#i swear im not trying to sound different im not a pick me i just dont get the hype bro😭#the artstyles and certain shots are great i love ps1 graphics and such but story/horror/scares wise? sure man whatever#also i dont think a troubling issue that lies in the underlying plot automatically makes a story good (wow brave concept kat) but idk#not naming games bc im scared of fandoms HAHA but if u can apply it to a game then thats what this post is abt as far as u know#i’ll still watch a bunch if explanation videos bc i like fully knowing the story but i already know the whole thing so#also disclaimer (?)#one could argue you need to actually play it instead of watching someone else do it but i dont feel like it HAHA#you dont really have to play the game yourself if youre still getting the same exact content you would otherwise#ive watched a lot of gameplay that i havent played and still think theyre great games#because i still experienced the gameplay just like... idk secondhand? doesnt really ruin the experience imo

btw the good(ish) ending for the f/q junior shithead alliance is that in their various quests to avoid being sent away/married off/having to make any real effort outside of the areas they actually care about they all become hypercompetent in various administrative areas so tariq gets to delegate
#i do. have thoughts on these roles they're not any of the really important shit but they are helpful and i am willing to discuss lol#mostly they make everyone's lives easier in that they are immune to seditious plots & schemes because really? treason sounds like a lot#of work. and honestly their brother's doing a great job of things. and you? you're going to the dungeon now lol !

Another thing about MJTY: it's set in a closed community with a strict power hierarchy where secrecy is highly valued. In other words, it's a powder keg for exploitative sexual relationships.
#my journey to you#admittedly I am not paying much attention to the plot#the politics don't interest me and the assassination plots frankly bore me#as incredible as this sounds#I'm actually bored with Esther Yu's character?!#i can't believe i'm saying that#a dead eyed female assassin played by Esther Yu sounds 100% my jam#but its not clicking for me?!#maybe my brain is broken :( :(#the volatile relationships within the Gong family are great tho#and i like the other assassin lady

“Gasp” how do you feel about Alegeoff
i haven't seen any content of it, but it's a geoff ship! this is enough to make me love it... plus the concept is really interesting (though it would be really hypocritical for bridgette to be criticised for liking alejandro but not vice versa)
#99% of geoff ships are perfevt#this one sounds great but you'd have to do something about the alebridgette mini plot thing#alegeoff#total drama#td#ask answered!
