why did the crump backstory sequence fuck so hard though??? the rest of the movie was basically constant gooey cgi soup (dgmw I loved basically every second of it) but that scene!! holy cow!! all of the animation budget went into that like minute of screen time

*puts hands on hollywood exec's shoulders, staring unblinking into their eyes* listen to me. you will never get people who hate musicals to like musicals by making your musical less of a musical. if you hide the fact that your film is a musical in the advertising, you're going to get a lot of low ratings from people who hate musicals and went into your movie not expecting a musical and got one anyway. people who hate musicals will hate them no matter how realistic and diegetic and lowkey you try to make it. they will hate musicals even if you completely excise anything complicated, over the top, silly, or even slightly challenging. they will hate musicals even if you cut half the songs. they will hate musicals even if you cast that a-lister who can't sing worth a damn. stop trying to market to people who hate musicals. they're a lost cause. your audience should be people who love musicals. this half-assed middle ground pisses off both camps. just embrace the fact that your movie is a musical. lean into it. don't try and trick musical haters into coming to your film when you could be marketing to the theater kids. better cringe than a coward.

I think, perhaps one of the funniest things to come from EPIC popularising the Odyssey is that now a ton of people think Poseidon wanted to kill Odysseus.

In the Odyssey, Poseidon has no intention of killing Odysseus. In fact, part of the whole reason Zeus lets Poseidon do whatever he wants even though he thinks Odysseus is rad and should get to kiss his wife is explicitly because Poseidon had no intentions of killing Odysseus. Poseidon wanted to pay back the suffering/inconvenience blinding Polyphemus would have caused. It's a really abstract thing tbh. How do you pay back someone permanently disabling your son? Poseidon's solution was just to amputate Odysseus from his other half; i.e. Penelope. The end game was never murder, it was always an endurance race.

Also, for those wondering if there's any sort of in text reason for why Poseidon wasn't around in God Games - at the time in the Odyssey when Athena petitions Zeus to let Odysseus leave Calypso's island, Poseidon was -checks notes- on vacation in Ethiopia. Yep. He left to Ethiopia for a festival and thusly was very much absent for Athena's whole "please let Ody go? Please? 🥺" request.

For some context i have been a pretty big fan of The Narcissist Cookbook for a while now.

TURNS OUT, they perform regularly at my best friend’s work and i get a call from her and get put on FACETIME WITH THEM, it’s 12.30am i’m in bed in a twilight t-shirt half asleep and i pick up and it’s THEM, the person who’s music got me through my uni applications (blasted good morning sunshine on repeat) and i’m holding my phone at the worst angle cuz i think it’s just my drunk bestie calling to say hi.

Anyway they also perform at my local pub regularly too so i’m gonna go see them soon :D

Josh and Brody also have fantastic chemistry as Pony and Johnny!! Literally a 10/10 and got to see Jordan!Ace! Which was cool!
