Loki Laufeyson | Request Muse
Age: Unknown
Fandom: Marvel/Norse Lore
Species: God/Goddess of Mischief
Pronouns: He/Him or She/Her depending on the form
Romance: Pansexual
Face Claim: Tom Hiddleston/Katie McGrath
About:
Loki was taken from an abandoned death to Asgard by Odin many years before he was a warrior alongside Thor. Loki may have been kidnapped from Jotunheim, but he grew into his own as an Asgardian raised being. It didn’t come without abuse of it’s own making. Parenting came naturally for him in either gender he chose to exhibit. From a young age, Odin distorted his children, telling them they were both born to be kings but that only one would ever actually be King. Loki tried to be an equal to his brother, but Odin always favored the big blonde, and Loki was left to his reading, his magic that his mother taught him, yearning to be seen as a worthy son. He wanted a fair chance at the throne, but it always seemed that Thor was always more adored. And so Loki began to trick and play games, a mix of love and resentment towards his father and brother from years of just being the confidant to the prince. Loki wanted a chance for Thor to see them as equals, warriors worthy of Valhalla, instead of an inferior brother. He planned a series of pranks for his brother’s coronation, a new one each time as he knew deep down that Thor wasn’t ready to take the throne and when it was proven, Loki discovered that he wasn’t Asgardian as he had been led to believe his entire life. He was of Jotunheim; the crown prince of his home realm and the trauma of finding out he was something he hated twisted him, made him bitter and angry in a way he’d never experienced before. He fathered and mothered many children. But Odin always found a way to destroy them. The grief of losing his precious kids took a toll on him when coupled with the bitterness of his lied heritage settled deep into him. He lashed out several times, but in the end let go to try and find some peace in death, instead finding torture at the hand of Thanos. He suffered for an unknown amount of time, though to him it felt like an eternity, refusing to give the Titan what it was he wanted but at last, he could no longer take the torment and agreed to doing Thanos’ bidding. Loki would be given a realm of his own to protect and rule, while Thanos got the tesseract. But not all went as planned. The scepter he was given gave Thanos power over his mind as well, the control taking a toll on Loki’s mental and physical state the longer he was there. So when he lost the battle of New York, he was relieved to get home to Asgard, even if he knew imprisonment awaited him. While he was resigned to his fate in the cells beneath the castle, he knew he was safe from Thanos’ wrath. But the wanderer in him longed to see the world just one more time, and so he agreed to help Thor, and when they returned, Loki let Odin go to earth while he took the throne, pardoning his brother and friends and taking care of the realm for a while until Hela was released. In the aftermath of his adopted sister, Loki vanished, leaving a clone behind to help those he cared for, but searching for any sign of peace he could grasp

The Possession (Sequel to Mystery of Laufey Manor)
Read chapter 7 here // Series Masterlist
Chapter 8
Summary : Things have been quiet since Loki got back to the apartment with you. How long will your peace last for?
Note : I wrote this while I'm going through stuff so please bear with me if it's not how I usually write because I read this chapter and I was like no but then I didn't want to waste another two hours on writing the same chapter
Loki didn't want to hurt you, he didn't want to leave either. But he knew if he'd stay there, the fight would escalate. He wanted you to stop hurting and he wanted his past to stop hurting you too. He has made horrible decisions when it comes to you, he knows how it feels to be played by the ones who claim to love you. He has been on this road before and he was left broken by his wives who claimed to love him but hurt him in the worst possible ways. Then why did he put you through the same thing?
He has asked himself that question every day since you left him. There's nothing he could do to change it, all he can do is be honest with you going forward and not betray you ever again. He was a few blocks away from the apartment when he landed on a florist shop. You love flowers and he didn't want to go back to you empty handed, he wanted to watch your face light up as you'd see them, when he came out of the shop with the bouquet in hand he had a smile on his face. You'd love this.
He suddenly saw a man walking towards him and recognised him. He had met Bruce before he married you while he was investigating Steve's case.
"Loki? I have been trying to call y/n ..there's something important you need to know" he told Loki and loki was taken aback by the worry in his voice.
"What do you mean? What's wrong?" Loki asked him and Bruce looked around
"There's something you need to see, come with me, I can't show it to you here" he had a file in his hand, he turned around and started walking so Loki followed him. If it was something about Steve, he wanted to know whatever Bruce found out. He went inside the nearest alleyway and Loki walked in not knowing what Bruce had in mind
"What is it?" Loki asked him and Bruce gave him the file he had in his hand. As soon as Loki opened the file his eyes widened in shock, disgust and rage.
It had pictures of you in a compromising position, pictures that Steve must have taken of you when he was stalking you. It also had pictures of you kissing and making love with your other boyfriends. He wished he had never seen those pictures, it truly enraged him. Steve was always keeping an eye on you. Always
"Where the hell did you find this?" He asked Bruce as his jaw clenched with anger
"In the house..it's something, she's something" Loki glared at him and walked over to him, how dare he talk about you that way and why did he keep these pictures with him?
"Mind your tongue banner, that's my wife you're talking about" he pressed his cane on Bruce's chest and pushed him behind
"Your wife huh? Your wife? You stole her from me you bastard" Bruce raised his voice and Loki glared at him again
"Stole her? You had one date with her" he raised his voice as well. This felt ludicrous to him, he had a much bigger problem awaiting at home and he didn't want to leave you all alone there for so long, even though James and Natasha were there he knew you must miss him by your side. So he turned around to leave, he kept walking and he looked behind once, Bruce was just staring at him with a smile on his face, he wished he could have been faster but he was incapable, and that's when Bruce ran towards him, passed by him and stood in front of him.
"Bruce you have lost your mind" Loki told him as he stepped away from him, he didn't even have any weapon on him today.
"Bruce? You think this is Bruce ?It's Steve" He took out a sharp knife from his coat and stabbed Loki in the torso, the flowers he held fell down and so did the files with your pictures in them. He didn't want to give up, he didn't want to leave you but he was truly afraid in the moment.
"She was mine and you stole her from me" Bruce kicked him in the same place and then he stabbed randomly three to four times, Loki started bleeding profusely and fell down as he started losing all the blood so quickly.
"She will be mine now, she'll always be mine" he punched Loki in the face and it was only when he heard a voice is when he ran away from the scene, leaving Loki to bleed and die.
You looked at him shocked, and hurt as he told you about Bruce and how he got hurt. Your eyes teared up and you were going to break down so Loki asked you to scoot next to him again, just like yesterday. You sobbed your heart out as soon as you felt his warmth next to you. He could have died out there, he could have died if they hadn't found him
"Wait but Bruce said he found you and called the ambulance, why would he do that if Steve was possessing him?" You asked him and he looked at James.
"Steve can't stay forever in Bruce's body, Bruce is easily prone to possession now but as long as he's alive and his soul is still there, Steve can't take him and own his body as his own.. he'll have to kill Bruce and replace his soul to complete the possession" you looked at him horrified as he said that. You can't let that happen, Bruce is innocent in all this. When Steve possessed you momentarily you acted against your nature and did something you never would have done.
"We need to save him, bruce, we need to save him from Steve" you sat up and Natasha nodded
"We will help him if he would want to be helped, for now we just have to keep him away from you two" she said to you
"Why him? Why Bruce?" You asked them and she sighed
"He was investigating Steve's case right? He was already obsessed with his case, he was thinking about him all the time and he became an easy target, he might also have chosen Bruce because he was harboring feelings for you and was jealous of Loki " you sighed as you heard her. Everything is such a mess but at least you know who is dangerous to you both now.
"Does Bruce know that he's being possessed?" You asked them and they shook their head
"You didn't know that when he was in you, but then you remembered what happened while he had you under his influence, you remember allowing Loki to leave and you remember not asking him to stop, which is rare, the one who gets possessed never remembers anything after they are ridden of the evil soul"
"Why don't we remember?" You asked her confused and James answered you
"Because onxe they get possessed they are not acting from their own mind so there's never a memory of the incident. But somehow you remember being possessed, your mind is alot stronger than other people y/n.. you have a gift" he told you and your father's voice rang in your head. He always told you that you had a gift to connect with souls just like your mother did. Loki linked his fingers with yours and you looked at him.
"So what do we do now?" You asked them and they looked at him
"We need to find Bruce and Father Coulson will perform a seance, maybe steve would be open to reasons and would leave willingly after communicating, it may not help but it's a step necessary to perform before the actual exorcism"
"I don't think he's going to leave because we will ask him to.. what if he tries to possess me again, and I'm here with Loki alone?" You asked her and she walked towards you and placed something around your neck. At first you thought it was a cross but it was just a chain
"You're a lot stronger than you think, don't let him take you so easily, resist him, fight him, as long as you have love in your heart, as long as you're free from the feeling of envy and jealousy, you'd be okay, fear, Insecurities is what makes one more susceptible to the possession" she hugged you and soon after they left.
You laid down next to Loki and caressed his forehead with your fingers, there was a smile on his face as looked at you
"I'm sorry it all happened because of me" you sobbed as you hid your face in the crook of his neck
"No no no darling, it didn't happen because of you, it's happening because it had to be this way, maybe our road to togetherness isn't as easy as we thought it would be. It didn't start easy, but I'll make sure we get there. I'll make sure we get to live our forever darling. I won't leave you here I promise" he turned his head so you pecked his lips softly.
You fell asleep again and so did he. His body has gone through alot in the last two days and he needed to heal. You spent the majority of your time in the hospital and didn't go home, you packed a bunch of stuff you needed and found a hotel next to the hospital to stay. Wanda stayed with you for two weeks and you got to know her alot better. Whenever you weren't there in the hospital, either James, Nat, Sam or Clint would stay there. They were all doing so much for you two and it made you believe in humanity again. There are all sorts of people in the world, you're lucky if you find good ones.
Loki truly was the best one of them all, he made mistakes and he was trying to fix them all. His wounds have healed by 80 percent in two weeks but he still needed to rest and take care of himself to be healed from deep within. It would take months before he can get back to normal.
"I can't wait to get out of here darling, i miss sleeping next to you" he whispered to you. They were discharging him today and he couldn't have been happier.
"I miss you too hubby, let's go home" you smiled and they put him in a wheelchair which he absolutely despised but his leg would still take time to heal and he needed it. Doctor did advise you to help him walk with a pair of crutches.
As soon as you got home, Wanda and Nat made tea and coffee for everyone. James helped Loki to get on the bed.
You all stayed in the bedroom as you chit chatted, James told about the time he met Natasha and how they fell in love. You noticed that there was something going on with Wanda and Sam and it made you smile.
"So about the seance, when will we do that?" you asked Natasha and she told you that it would depend on you two so you looked at Loki
"Let's do it as soon as possible" Loki told her and she nodded. After they left you climbed in the bed and laid next to him..you wrapped your arms in the space between his chest and torso where he wasn't stabbed. As soon as felt your touch he wrapped his arm around your back and sighed as you placed feathery kisses on his neck. He was home.
"I have missed your kisses and everything else that comes after that" you chuckled and lifted your head up to kiss him, this time it wasn't just a short fleeting touch, you kissed him deeply, you missed him more than you could have imagined. He was there in front of you but he still felt so far. You looked at his broken nose and felt horrible about it. He just got his face back and now it was all busted again, even though other bruisings have faded his nose would still take some time to heal
"Can I use 'I almost died' as an excuse so you would have pity sex me?" You giggled as he said that.
"I would have sex with you and it definitely won't be out of pity.. but" you got on your fours, and leaned down to kiss him.
"I knew there was a but"
"But your doctor said we shouldn't do anything that would strain the stitches"
"You asked the doctor if we could have sex?" He chuckled and you sucked a mark on his neck
"Mmmhm I almost lost my husband to death, I wanted to know how quickly I could jump his bones"
"This is going to be torturous" he mumbled and you laid down next to him again.
"I'm sorry about everything lo, whatever happened that day..I"
"It's not your fault darling, you did what I would have done, I would have been jealous too..I just need you to know that you're my everything and I'd never do anything to jeopardize our relationship and the love we have in each other"
"You're my everything too, and I never ever want to lose you" he caressed your back softly and you fell asleep soon.
Few days passed by and Loki was getting better and better everyday. He could even walk with the help of the crutches. Weirdly enough since you got back to the apartment with Loki, you have not heard from Steve, it was as if he disappeared or went away but you knew that would be wishful thinking. Bruce was missing and nobody knew where he was. You have put the shop opening on hold considering the circumstances but you were ready for it to open now and Loki was doing his best to help you.
"Come help me shave, you promised me" he was standing in front of the mirror, with a straight razor and shaving foam in his hands.
"I don't think me holding a sharp razor over your face is such a good idea" you were standing on the bathroom door with your arms crossed. Tomorrow was the reopening of the shop and it made you nervous
"Come on darling, I'm here, I'll take care of us" he held out his hand for you so put your hand in his and he made you sit down on the sink. You used the shaving brush and lathered the cream all over his cheeks and chin, his beard has grown in the past few days, and you could tell he didn't like that look on him. You pulled him closer by wrapping your legs around him
You started to shave from the right cheek in the downward motion, slow soft strokes,
"I always wanted to shave my face when I was a kid, everytime my dad shaved I had this urge to do the same" he pulled his face away from you as he had to chuckle, he could imagine a little you jumping up and down and throwing tantrums so your parents would allow you to shave
"That's adorable darling, what happened then?" You smiled and moved to the other side. He roamed his hands all over your thighs as you continued to shave him
"Well I was going through my dad's shaving kit and of course I got caught red handed, instead of scolding my mom told me this horror story about a girl my age who grew facial hair after she shaved her face" he raised his brows as you changed the tone of your voice, it got chrpier, almost childish.
"Sounds horrifying" you nodded your head and continued to shave his neck
"I really thought that was true, she even showed me a picture of a woman from a magazine with a full grown beard, she probably had some medical condition, bless her heart. But as a kid I was terrified of it happening to me" he looked into your eyes as you finished the story, you were focusing on shaving his mustache while the only thing running through his head was having a little girl who would cause such mischief around the house.
He wanted a family with you and he wanted it all with you only. He just wished you both didn't have to suffer so much to find your forever together.
"Well I'd still love you the same if you had a beard" you chuckled as he said that
"Really?"
"You loved me how I was, you have taught me what it's like to love someone so selflessly, I'd never give up on you no matter what happens" you leaned forward to kiss his forehead then you kissed his lips. When you pulled away you both were breathless, gasping for air.
"I think my stitches are healed now darling"
"I think so too"

Peter’s intensity did not let up. If anything, he grew more insistent and more suffocating. After the pool, there was the bed, then the shower, then another romp that kept you from logging into your work email. You were sore and drained by the time you laid down, too exhausted to try to wriggle away from him as he joined you and kept his arm over you as you drifted off.
You woke to him drinking coffee and looking out at the lush property. He wore only a pair of short boxers, his muscles lined perfectly along his bent arm and firm stomach. You let out a soft breath and rolled onto your back.
Your thighs brushed together and made you squirm. You thought once he had his fun, he might let up. You could not predict this man in anything.
“You want a coffee?” he asked as he turned away from the windows, “I’ll send for one. Latte? Mocha?”
“Mmmph,” you grumbled and sat up carefully.
Those cocktails went down too easy and added to the weight in your head and limbs. The alcohol made him bearable, made your new reality palatable. You were naked still. You held the sheet to your chest and he went to the dresser and pulled out the drawer with his free hand. He dangled the long camisole gown before you as he neared.
“I hate to cover such a pretty woman up but I think we’ve exposed my staff to enough of our fun,” he held the thin straps over a single finger.
You reached for it and he drew it just away from your grasp. He bent and his dark eyes clung to yours, “not a good morning kiss?” he taunted.
You leaned forward and pecked his lips. He purred and stood, draping the silk over your lap.
“So, coffee?” he asked again.
“With just a little milk,” you answered as you pulled on the nightgown and turned your legs over the edge of the bed. Every part of you was stiff, “thank you.”
“You’re learning, princess,” he praised, “such sweet manners.”
You stood and crossed your arms. He chuckled and nudged your chin with his knuckle playfully. He pulled on a robe and knotted it loosely around his body. He went to the door and hit the button right beside the frame. A knock came shortly and he handed over his empty mug and requested one for you.
“I was thinking, we’d extend our stay a while,” he said as he turned back to the room, “I need a break from the city… but if you’re good, I’ll let you invite your friends. They’re nice girls.”
“Is that a suggestion or an order?” you asked dully.
“Both,” he smirked at you as he came closer and wrapped his arms around you, “you’re starting to get it, princess.”
You searched his face and held back a sigh. His brown eyes were smokey as his hands slipped down to your ass.
“I’ll need them around to distract my guests,” he purred.
“Guests?” you turned your arms and planted them firmly against his chest as he bent to kiss your neck. He ignored you easily as he swayed you with him.
“I was woken up early by a call,” he spoke against your skin, his lips sending shivers through you, “we got today and tomorrow, then those two goons will be joining us. I can get away but…” he raised his head and ran his hands up your sides and along your arms, pulled them over his shoulders, “business is business… we can still fit in a little play.”
You stiffened and swallowed. Your brows furrowed and you slanted your lips as you looked past him.
“You mean Bucky?”
“And Steve,” he filled in, “you don’t get one without the other.”
“I thought you guys were all… sorted out,” you said quietly.
“Ah, princess, you don’t know the half of it,” he cooed, “let’s keep it that way. Better for everyone.”
You nodded. He was right, you knew whatever he did was unsavoury and you didn’t need the details. You knew what he was capable of. A flash of fear went through you as you recalled the barrel of his gun pointed at you.
“I don’t wanna do that again, princess,” he uttered as if he could read your mind, “so… let’s not. Give the girls a call.”
A tap came at the door and he parted. He opened it and took the mug from the servant and brought it to you. You took it as the scent promised to fend off the ache behind your eye. You sat in one of the upholstered chairs and took a cautious sip. He watched you with a grin and bit his lip.
“Better finish that fast,” he warned, “coffee stains don’t come easy.”
You eyed him as he pushed open his robe and you saw the bulge twitch in his boxers. You kept your face placid, not wanting to provoke him. What exactly were you holding onto? He already had your whole life in the palm of his hand.
✨
Halle was more than overjoyed to accept your invitation but Molly passed as she wanted to hang out with Charlie. Desiree said it would be good for her as her co-worker turned out to be a total waste of time.
You hated that you were doing this to your own friends; using them as bait. Peter made it clear that they were welcome only on the condition that they could be an ends to his means. ‘Tell them to bring bikinis’, he insisted before you made the call.
Your second morning at the beach house was just as heavy as the first. The day before was filled with Peter’s incessant touching and another dip in the pool that ended in his delight. The staff was set to cleaning the pool once more in preparation of the guests. You were embarrassed as the servers, cleaners, and chef were all too aware of your activities.
Peter left you after a quick shower and you were thankful for the chance to wash on your own. He pecked your lips as he held his phone to his ear and squeezed your ass before he went.
You stood beneath the steamy stream of the faucet and melted beneath it. You came out slightly refreshed and wrapped yourself in a plush towel.
You went into the bedroom and sorted through the second drawer as you searched for something more comfortable than showy. There wasn’t much you could categorize as practical. You heard the door creak and didn’t look up as droplets cooled on your arms and you pulled a yellow sun dress out of the closet instead.
“That’s a good colour for you,” the voice made you freeze and you glanced over at the open door.
You assumed it was Peter or the wind, but the man who filled the doorframe with his thick shoulders, made your chest tight. Bucky stood with his arm against the wood as he leaned nonchalantly and leered at you.
“Wh-when did you get here?” you stuttered as you held your towel tight and shielded yourself with the dress.
“Just a couple minutes ago,” he smiled, “I was just looking for the bathroom but…” he tilted his head as his voice trailed off and his eyes ventured down your body, “...think I found something better.”
“Get out,” you hissed, “or I’ll shout.”
“Why? I’m not doing anything… just watching,” his lips curled lasciviously, “and you are fun to watch.”
“What-- I said, get out, Bucky,” you snarled as you stomped over to him.
You pushed on his thick arm, the muscle firm as it peeked out from beneath his short-sleeve button-up. He didn’t budge as he loomed over you.
“Your man likes to treat me like some errand boy. Sent me off to keep an eye on you. Boring, at first, all those months following you around to cafes and grocery stores,” he reached out and cradled your chin. You tried to pull away but he gripped your jaw firmly and held you in place, “but those things you do when you think you’re all alone… I was tempted to lend a hand but… business.”
“Don’t fucking touch me,” you grabbed his wrist and wrenched it away, “I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about--”
“That little pink dildo, well, not very little is it?” he licked his bottom lip, “I thought he would’ve told you. He’s a careful man. He plans ahead. I respect that, at least.”
“Go!” you shoved him in mortification, “or I’ll scream right now and you know Peter won’t be happy--”
“Calm down, little girl,” he scoffed, “don’t get so worked up. I’m not that stupid…” he squared his jaw and raised a brow wryly, “but he will get careless and I’ll still be watching.”
He winked and turned away slowly. You quickly closed the door as he retreated down the hallway and you locked it with a shaky hand. You staggered back blindly and sat heavily on the cushioned bench at the foot of the bed.
How long had Bucky been hounding you? How long had Peter had his eye on you? Your heart raced at the realisation of how deep in you truly were. You could deal with one, but two? You were well and truly fucked.
✨
You tried to hide in the bedroom until your friend arrived but Peter dragged you out to welcome his guests over breakfast by the pool. You sat quietly and picked at the fruit plate until they excused themselves for more business. You were grateful as you didn’t miss Bucky’s fleeting looks.
Halle and Desiree arrived just after noon. The men were locked away in the parlor so you greeted them as they approached the walk, beach bags on their arms and rolling suitcases bouncing up the stones.
“Oh my god, girl,” Halle chirped, “he sent a car and everything.”
“Thank god, my old piece of shit wouldn’t have made it this far,” Desiree added, “oh, you look so good. I love that dress.”
“Thanks,” you sniffed, “um, I hope you guys don’t mind staying on the second floor. Peter’s staff just got the rooms ready--”
“Staff?” Halle swooned, “you hooked in a real sugar daddy.”
“No, I-- Halle,” you sneered, “it’s not--”
“I’m teasing,” she giggled, “but come on, look at this place.”
“Mm, well there is another hitch,” you said as you led them inside.
Two staff members approached and offered to take their bags. They gave you silent looks of amazement as they handed over their luggage and you rolled your eyes.
“So, what’s the hitch? Don’t tell me the pools out of order,” Desiree whined.
“No, pool’s just been cleaned, but… we have company,” you said tritely, “couple of Peter’s… friends. I’m sure they won’t bother you but--”
“Are they hot?” Halle asked.
“Are you serious?” you blinked.
“I’m so serious. I need to get laid. Bad.”
“And a stranger is the best choice for that?” you scoffed.
“If he’s cute,” she shrugged.
“It’s an important question,” Desiree seconded, “I can’t keep dating boys. You won’t believe what this asshole did.”
“I dunno,” you waved off the question, “how about I show you around first and then we can get to all that later.”
“Ooo, yes,” Halle clapped, “this place is huge.”
“Alright, well, we can’t go in the parlour right now but you won’t really be in there anyway,” you ushered them forward, “the pool’s just through here…”
✨
When at last the girls were settled in, you waited by the pool as they went to change into their suits. You requested some drinks from the staff and thanked them profusely as you felt entirely out of place asking anything of them. The fruity margaritas were left on the round table as you sat in the middle of a lounger.
“Uh, this place is gorgeous,” Halle declared as she came through the sliding doors, “oh my god, are those for us?”
You nodded as she swiped up a drink and sipped noisily from the straw. Desiree took her own but side-eyed Halle, “It’s barely one o’clock, slow down,” she chirped.
“It’s a vacation! Sort of. I had to use sick time for this so no Insta please,” Halle sang, “I can’t wait to get in.”
She set down her glass and strode over to the pool. She slid out of her sandals and dipped her toes in. She surprised you as suddenly she dove in and sent up a splash of water. Desiree giggled as she swallowed her mouthful and placed her drink beside Halle’s and raced over to join her.
You dragged yourself to your feet and sat at the side of the pool with only your legs in the water.
“Come on, don’t be such a party pooper,” Desiree splashed you.
“I’m not, I’m just… all pooled out right now,” you shrugged, “you guys have fun, I’m just happy to have you here.”
It wasn’t a lie. In those last two days when it was just you and Peter, you felt so completely isolated. Even if they were there to act as diversions, you were reassured to have a glimpse of your former life.
“You ladies look like you’re having fun,” Peter’s voice startled you and you looked over your shoulder as he emerged from the house, “drinking already?” He was dressed in his trunks already, “I hope you don’t mind, the guys were hoping to hop in too.”
“The guys,” Halle giggled.
“I told them we had company,” you assured Peter, “and uh, you know Halle, but this is Desiree.”
“A pleasure,” he said as he neared and sat beside you, “why aren’t you in there with them?”
“I will get in, I’m just… enjoying the sun.”
He hummed and put his hand over yours on the rim of the pool, “you okay?” he lowered his voice.
You squinted at him and nodded. He didn’t really care if you weren’t okay. He was only telling you to start acting like it.
You heard the others before they appeared. Peter introduced them as they came out and the girls were all too happy to have them sink into the pool with them. Peter nudged you and you slipped over the edge and he quickly followed. He caught you as you broke the surface and held you to him.
“They’re getting along,” he intoned.
“I still don’t get it,” you pressed against his chest as he waded you over to the other side of the pool, “why do you need them?”
“Part of the deal,” he said, “they want some fun too.”
“What? You mean--”
“The girls seem willing. They’re pretty enough and I wouldn’t say Bucky or Steve are hideous,” Peter chuckled, “it works for everyone.”
“You’re whoring out my friends for a deal?” you spat.
“Now, princess, watch it,” he curled his lip, “I’ve been patient, haven’t I?” he leaned into you and squished you between him and the wall of the pool, “if I was a worse man, I’d just let them have a taste of you… but you’re mine,” he kissed you roughly and drew back, “and so long as you are, you will only be mine. Understood?”
You swallowed and nodded. He relaxed and kept his arm around you as he came parallel to the pool wall and floated beside you. Steve and Desiree were chattering as she came back to the pool with her drink and Halle gabbed on at Bucky but his eyes weren’t on her. He smirked as he watched you and slowly dropped his gaze to your roommate.
“Maybe Bucky will chill out a little,” Peter grumbled as he pushed himself away from the side of the pool.
“Mm, maybe,” you let him pull you with him as he waded around the middle of the pool.
“Don’t worry so much,” he chided.
“How can I not? I hardly know these men and these are my friends, Peter,” you hissed, “I should’ve known.”
“And if you had, you still would have done what I said, princess,” he snipped, “why are you doing this? Everyone’s having fun so join the party.”
You thinned your lips and forced a smile. His eyes narrowed and he latched onto your arm. He pulled you with him to the large round steps along the far corner and you tried not to slip as you climbed out of the water. The others were too distracted to notice and as you glanced back, you found Desiree with her tongue down Steve’s throat.
“You don’t wanna have fun with them,” Peter dragged you into the house, “then we can have some of our own.”
“Not right now, Peter, please--”
“Listen, princess,” he spun and pulled you to him, “you’re not getting this. I’ve been nice. I bring you to my nice house, I send a car for your friends, I get you off… you need to start using that head instead of your mouth…” he eyed your lips, “well, the mouth is good for some things.”
You quivered in disgust and he turned as he forced you further down the hallway. He flung you through the bedroom door and you barely caught yourself on a chair. The door slammed as your damp feet slipped on the floor and you stood to face him.
“I’ve done you all these favours so you can do me one,” he hooked his thumbs in his shorts and pulled them down over the protrusion of his arousal.
You glanced away and he closed the distance between you. He grabbed your chin and made you look at him. He kissed you roughly and shoved you away. He stormed over to the bed and flopped down, his cock bobbing as he moved to recline against the pillows and exhaled loudly.
“Well…” he said.
You stared at him and the bitterness laced your muscles. You huffed and walked to the bed slowly. He stroked himself tauntingly as he smirked at you. You put a knee on the bed and braced yourself. There was a moment you were ready to run and not look back, but your friends were in his pool and the vision of his pistol pulsed in your head.
You climbed up and crawled to him. You sat back on your heels, just between his legs and he tutted, “now, princess, don’t give me that look.”
You wiped the anger from your face and closed your eyes. You grasped his dick and his hand fell away. You moved your hand up then down and tamped down your reservations. You bent over him and your lashes fluttered as your lips pressed to his tip. He gasped at the soft sensation and you stretched your lips around him.
He groaned and put his hand on your shoulder as he urged you down. He met the back of your throat and you eased back, wetting his length to ease the tension in your jaw. He gripped the back of your head impatiently and you strained to let him further as he invaded your throat. You gagged and he let you back only for a moment before he forced you back down.
You followed his motion, fast and deep, until the spit dripped down him and across your face. You clung to his thigh as you breathed with each retreat only to be smothered again. Your throat burned as your jaw ached as you kept your tongue firm to his length. The sloppy sucking mingled with his lusty moans and he held your head between both hands as he thrust from below.
He stopped you suddenly. Your head spun as he lifted you off of him and sat up to kiss you messily. He pushed you over as he got to his knees. You fell back and bounced on the bed as he parted your legs, bending on over his as he moved to straddle the other. You laid at an angle as his hand slid up your stomach to your neck.
He squeezed lightly as he pulled aside the crotch of your suit and angled his dick against your cunt. You moaned as he filled you and pressed his thumb to your clit. He kept his hand at your throat as he held you down and jerked his hips sharply. He jolted your body with each decisive thrust as he watched your face.
“You like sucking my dick, princess? Makes you so wet, huh?” he growled.
You grabbed his hand but he only gripped your throat more firmly. He bit down as he sped up, the mattress shaking beneath you with each tilt of his hips. He rammed into you hard and harder, your leg stretched up his torso as he kept astride your other.
He teased and toyed with your clit as he fucked you. You choked out raspy moans as the coil wound tight inside of you and your muscles knotted around him. Your eyes rolled back as you slapped at his bicep and clawed deep into his flesh as you came. You squirmed in your orgasm and he sped up.
He pulled his hand from your throat to hold your leg to his body. He kept playing with your bud as you groped your chest senselessly and your voice rose unrestrained around you. His deep grunt punctuated each airy cry from your lips and the entire bed rocked beneath your bodies.
“That’s it, that’s it,” he snarled, “oh, princess, that’s it.”
He sank deep and pulled his hips back in a series of cruel thrusts that made your hips throb painfully. Your walls squeezed him as you came again and you milked him as he spent himself inside of you. He slowed and stopped as he hung his head and the muscles in his chest and arms tautened.
“Shit,” he breathed and slipped out of you, flinching as his tip brushed against you.
You stayed as you were as he let your leg fall to the bed and he sat between your legs and pushed his hair away from his face. He sighed and shook out his arms as if to free himself of the tension.
“You’re so good, princess,” he felt along your cunt and played with his cum as it seeped from you, “aren’t you?”
✨
Shamefully, you left the room in a new swimsuit. The former was stained from Peter’s punishment and after cleaning up, he forced you out with a fake smile. You emptied your margarita and ordered another with less reticence than before. Steve and Desiree had disappeared as Bucky humoured Halle’s flirting on one of the loungers.
Dinner was awkward enough as you weren’t foolish enough to think that no one noticed or heard your absence. You emptied three more glasses and Peter excused the two of you as he kept you from a fourth. You wobbled back to the room ahead of him and fell onto the bed without changing out of your shorts and shirt.
“You’re mad again?” you bubbled drunkenly.
“You’re drunk,” he said as removed his watch and unbuttoned his shirt, “I don’t like that.”
“You don’t, ha?” you rolled onto your back, “that first night you had no problem feeling me up while I was--”
“Princess,” he snapped, “you can only blame the drink for so much.”
“You’re an ass,” you slurred and turned your back to him.
He huffed and the light went out. You felt the mattress dip behind you as he lowered himself next to you. He was stiff and didn’t try to touch you.
“I should spank you for that,” he muttered, “but you’re so fucking lit you wouldn’t remember it.”
“I feel good,” you murmured, “for once.”
He pinched you and the bed jostled as he rolled onto his side.
“Go to sleep,” he ordered.
He didn’t need to tell you twice as the alcohol weighted your eyelids and you were soon snoring carelessly into the pillow.
✨
You woke with a start as your stomach churned. It was still late as you clamoured out of the bed and ran for the bathroom. You hugged the bowl as you retched into it. Your body revolted and the alcohol came up with your dinner.
You shuddered as you caught your breath and flushed. You rinsed your mouth and steady yourself as you veins were thick from excess.
You stumbled back into the bedroom. Peter was asleep. His even breath rasped up into the dark. It was a rare moment of peace unsettled only by the memory of the day. You recalled his reproach before you fell asleep, you knew that wouldn’t be the end of it.
You groaned and crept to the door and let yourself out quietly into the hall. You went to the kitchen, tiptoeing through the dark, and filled a glass with water. You sipped but a noise pricked your ears. You listened as you kept your lips on the rim and drank to ease the fire in your stomach.
You followed the sound until it was too late to retreat. The whimpers and groans mixed and sent a tingle through you as you realised what was happening. You stopped in shock, frozen as you found Bucky and Halle in the immense front room. He had her bent over a round ottoman, her fingers curled at the seam as he rutted into her from behind.
She squealed each thrust as her head hung over the other side of the cushion. “Slow down,” she wisped, “please, I told you-- ugh, I never done it like this be--”
She cried out and bit into the cushion as he slapped her ass and fucked her harder, his other hand stretched between her shoulder blades. You took a step back and the movement caught his eye. He looked up and held your gaze as his face contorted into a sinister grin.
He sped up as he reached to smother her wails and held your gaze. You gripped the glass tightly and trembled as you backed away from the doorway. You spun and raced back to your room and tripped through the door.
You crashed to the floor and the glass shattered as water splashed around you. Peter sat up with a snort and reached to flip on the lamp at the bedside.
“What’s going on?” he asked sleepily.
“Just getting water,” you croaked as you sat back on your heels in the midst of the broken glass.
“Shit, did you cut yourself?” he asked as he saw you.
“No, no, I’m okay but-- stay there, you’ll get hurt. I’m close enough, I can… I’ll clean it up… I’m sorry.”
He stared at you and slowly nodded. The anger crinkled in his forehead and you stood carefully.
“So, now we know not to drink like that, huh?” he girded.
“I said, I’m sorry.”
“Mmhmm,” he leaned back against the headboard, “go on, princess, clean up your mess.”

Schoolyard Bullies PART 3 (Loki/Reader)
Loki comes back home...surprises await him.
Read the 1st part here
Read the 2nd part here
Read the Mischievous Life series here
Your eyes opened, and the room around you slowly came into focus. Still – that same scent was there, but now, it was complemented with a heavenly voice.
"She let you have Biscuits, huh?" Loki's voice jerked you back into reality.
He had come back – there he is – sitting on the couch with your legs in his lap – one of his hands slowly massaging your feet while the other holds the soft stuffed animal.
"Oh my God, Loki," you sigh, the tears coming back to your eyes as you sit up and throw your arms around the god.
Loki places Biscuits on the coffee table, and his hands begin to lovingly rub your back – breathing in your scent as his lips place a kiss on your neck. "It's alright, my darling," he softly comforts you. "I'm back – I'm so sorry for leaving you like that."
You shake your head and double-check to make sure that it's actually Loki. Once you see his gorgeous blue eyes looking at you, your arms are wrapped around his neck and pulling him on top of you – earning a chuckle from him. "I love you," you tell him, closing your eyes and thanking whatever force brought him back home. "You have no idea how sorry I am, Loki."
"Let's just move on, love," Loki softly insists, hovering his face over yours. He takes a deep breath in. "I was wrong," he admits. "I should not have acted the way I did in front of our daughter – I just – someone was hurting her, and I couldn't-,"
Loki's interrupted when your lips devour him.
"Did you see the drawing she made for you?" you ask when the two of you finally part.
Loki smiles against your lips. "I did," he says.
"When did you come back?" you ask, wanting to know just how long he had stayed away from you and Jade.
"Little while ago," he answers you – gently stroking your cheek and studying your eyes. "You fell asleep as soon as I came back, but I didn't want to wake you, so I just sat here with you."
Loki plants his forehead to yours. "Why do we fight?" you ask him, the pain still heavy in your voice.
"Because we love each other," he smiles sweetly at you. "If we didn't love each other or Jade, then there'd be nothing to fight over."
"I could never imagine not loving Jade," you shake your head and lovingly stroke his jawline. "Or you." Finally, you manage to smile up at the god hovering over you. "Or our newest little one."
Loki's mouth drops, his eyes widen, and he searches your eyes for some sort of giveaway that you're just joking with him – but it never comes. "What?" he breathes out – frozen and unable to say anything. "I'm sorry, but it just sounded like you -,"
"I'm pregnant," you nod happily – Loki only being able to respond with actions as his lips are deeply on yours – holding your face with his hands and exploring every crevice of your mouth that he can. "So," you pant, "I guess that means you're happy?"
Loki laughs, and one of his hands goes down to your stomach. There's only a hint of a baby bump – nothing that could've been noticed on its own, but when Loki lifts your shirt to look at your growing womb, he immediately plants his lips on it – pure love coming from him.
"Are you going to take me to bed, or what?" you grin at Loki while he's lost on the feeling of your body in his hands. Without answering, a flash of green surrounds the two of you, and you giggle when your back lands on the soft mattress, and your body bounces up a little – just enough for Loki to wrap his arms completely around your body and hold you completely to his body. "You still have that kink of yours?" you ask with a wiggle of your eyebrows.
"Oh, dear," he moans into your neck, "you know I do."
Loki makes quick work of your pants and panties as you work to remove his shirt – wasting no time in marking each other with mouths and nails.
"Can I taste you?" your breath pants against Loki's lips as he removes your shirt and bra.
He chuckles seductively and goes to remove his pants and boxer-briefs with a wave of his hand, but you quickly grab hold of it and stop him. "Let me do it, babe," you plead. "I was bad, after all. I deserve to be punished," you purr as you bite his bottom lip.
Loki's hands return to your hair, and you eagerly undo his belt and unbutton his jeans – taking your time and teasing his growing erection. After listening to him groan from frustration, you finish removing his pants and set him free when you remove the rest of his clothing.
"Fuck, I missed you," Loki growls in your ear – your hand gripping his cock and playing with the bead of precum on his tip. You bring your finger up to your mouth and taste the god's cream – moaning at his delectable taste. You giggle as you get out from underneath him and move towards the end of the bed – Loki moving so you can get to him easier. You stroke him before starting to take him into your mouth, but before you can, Loki stops you. "Wait," he breaths. "Ride my face."
"Yes, sir," you smirk and do as he wants – taking as much of him into your mouth as you can as your soaked pussy connects with his tongue.
Loki lets out a sinful moan at your taste – taking his time and savoring your sweetness. You moan around his cock when you feel him smack your ass with both of his hands. You feel him placing kisses on your clit, around your entrance, and leaving his marks on your inner thighs. Chasing your own climax, you begin to roll your hips on his tongue, and Loki's mouth begins to move deeper and faster on your core. As you roll your hips, Loki begins to thrust up into your mouth – chasing the same thing you are. Happily, you let him use your mouth as he needs, and it's not long before the both of you are swallowing each other's juices, gulping down and greedily searching for more. Loki taps your thigh, and you roll off to his side, and he quickly moves to hover over you – bending your knees and spreading them as far apart as possible – awestruck at having your pussy completely exposed to him. Slowly, Loki enters you – pushing himself inside your tight tunnel completely – giving you a moment to adjust to his size. Both of you appreciate that you never stay stretched to his size, so he always gets to stretch you to accommodate him.
"Your pussy feels so amazing, my dear," Loki mischievously moans into your ear – thrusting himself deeply yet slowly into your core – hitting the deepest spot possible.
"Mmm...your cock...oh my god...," you moan sinfully as your back arches – giving Loki access to your neck.
"That's right, my love," Loki chuckles between love bites, "I am your God."
Your hands find their way to Loki ass – holding him tightly to you and leaving your scratch marks from as far down as possible up to his shoulders. "Watch it," Loki growls – taking a nipple into his mouth. "Don't start what you can't finish."
Calling Loki's bluff, you make a bold move. You distract him by tangling your fingers in his hair and pulling his face up to yours, but once he's fully committed to dominating your tongue with his, your hands leave his hair, and the moans that the two of you are sharing are interrupted by the sound of your hands loudly smacking Loki's ass. He pulls away from your mouth – his stunned and desire-filled eyes stare down into your cocky smile.
"What're you gonna do about it?" you whisper – grabbing the god's earlobe with your teeth.

There's Just Time (A Loki x reader Fanfic)
Chapter One: We've Met Before
Summary: You were an explosion waiting to happen who found love in the arms of a hurricane. Loki saw you as an angel that calmed his demons. For you, he was a savior that taught you to trust your abilities, yourself, and others. When he died, you were broken. You clung to any hope possible and watched as it all fell away. With nothing left, stories from your youth flooded back of a mysterious force that controlled time and space, and you knew that you would do anything to see him again...even if that something meant teaming up with the Time Variance Authority to capture the man you love.
A series of murders catch Mobius' eye. A familiar face catches yours.
Words: 3,118
Warnings: grief, mentions of self harm, death
Prologue
If you'd searched the whole wide world
Would you dare to let it go?
The pews of this church were far less comfortable than you could have possibly imagined. You let your feet dangle for a moment before pushing them up on to the pew in front of you. A bored yawn echoes in the empty halls and your eyes fall closed as the workers around you continue to struggle to make sense of the scene. When you try to breathe, you notice that the air is far too still.
“It’s great to see you making yourself useful.” The soft sound of shoes stop steadily next to your seat. With an annoyed huff, you push your feet down and sit up, looking at Mobius.
“I could be far more useful if you’d let me use my goddamn powers.” He sighs and stares down at his watch. “You know I can’t do that. Now come on, you’re a smart kid. What does this all look like to you?”
Your eyes don’t leave him for a few seconds. There was a time where you would have tried to run off; take what you needed to jump from place to place and find Loki on your own. Not now though. You know these people are far more powerful than they let on. You know that you need them if you’re ever going to see him again.
With that in mind, you walk over to the candlelit section, Mobius following closely behind. The bodies are spread out on the floor, each with wounds in a pattern far too familiar. Gunshots were never your forte. Stab wounds on the other hand, you were taught well by the best on how to both treat and inflict.
“They were stabbed.” He nods and squats down to inspect the wounds of one body more closely.
“They’re all consistent with the others. Look at the position of the bodies.” Your eyes glance over each of them. Some look defensive, but in a sudden way. Almost as if…”They didn’t know something was coming to them until it was too late. It was a blindside.” Mobius rises and pats your shoulder. It makes you uncomfortable, he’s trying desperately to be your friend and you don’t really know why. You both knew you weren’t here because it was your first option.
“That makes six attacks this week.” Your fingers tingle with the need to feel something. If you could just tap into the energy here, it could make everything so much easier. There is endless knowledge in the atmosphere of a room, especially one where such horrific things occurred. It was infuriating that they you couldn’t use a part of yourself that you had learned to depend on.
“Those are just the ones we know of.” Mobius walks around the side of the room again, just in time for your frustration to bubble over. You stare him down and, even without your abilities, you know he can feel the anger that courses through you.
“I thought you guys were all knowing.” You step toward Mobius and one of the soldiers lifts his gun. Mobius quickly puts a hand up to order him to stand down. He walks closer to you, arms up in attempt to defuse the situation. His patience pisses you off even more.
“This is a variant we’re talking about. You know better than most that those aren’t so well regulated.” He watches you closely as your jaw clenches. He’s right and you know it. It’s just felt like an eternity since any sign of Loki has come up. You were on edge, without your powers, and working with people you didn’t fully trust. Playing it cool was the only way to keep your position as Mobius’ partner though, and you had to remember that.
“Right.” You nod and turn away right as the shuffle of feet sounds from down the hall. A small child runs by and Mobius follows, along with a few of the crew. You’re not so quick to see what’s going on though. Right now, you need to think. The bodies around you were alarming. The stab wounds even more so. There was no way that Mobius didn't recognize the same signs you did, but you weren't about to broadcast it with the small chance that he didn't already know.
You had been working with Mobius for a little while now. You weren’t exactly sure how long because time has a weird tendency to move differently at the TVA. It was long enough to establish that, while you weren’t the most fond of him, he held a certain faith in you that the others lacked. Still, something was off, you just didn’t know what yet.
That’s what made all of this even more concerning. If your suspicions were even close to correct about the recent murders…you knew where your loyalties were held, and it wasn’t with Mobius or the TVA. Loki was somewhere out there. For a brief moment, before you had your powers stripped from you, you could almost feel him. It was the connection to his energy that tethered you to him when you first met, and it was a similar one to what called you to him back at the revisit to New York. There was something that kept hope in you that he was still alive, and the feeling stayed with you until the moment you entered the TVA.
Every once in a while, out here in the field, you think you can still feel little shards of it.
Your mind stops wandering when you see Mobius take something from the child to be examined. It was a little blue package, but the glowing teeth on the child are what really catch your eye. You make it just in time to see the kid point out the stained-glass imagery of the devil. Horns protrude from his head like a crown. It all felt too familiar: the god-like being, horned crown, stab wounds, and tricky nature of a blind attack. The anger, the mistrust. Your eyes can’t seem to tear away for a second, but when they do, you can’t help but stare at this kid. Something was definitely not right. Why was he so calm?
Mobius watches you from his place by the doorway and takes it all in. You can see it when you look back at him; the knowing look he gives you. It’s unsettling to think that your thoughts are so easily deciphered when you don’t have your shield to hide behind. He doesn’t ask any questions though, and for that you’re almost grateful. He says something else to the kid, but you aren’t listening anymore.
“Alright, let’s head out.” Mobius takes your arm and guides you back to the main hall. Part of you thinks these little gestures are to establish trust. Mobius truly has given you no real reason to dislike him. As a person, he appears inherently good. Without your ability to read him though, you never know what to trust. The fact that they seem adamant to keep them from you, while not his decision, makes you weary of the whole organization.
“Any of that seem odd to you?” He looks between your face and the rest of the room quickly. You know he’s trying to make it seem like he’s not watching you that closely, even though he is. Keeping your face as steady as you can, you choose your words carefully. Focus on the gum, not the horns. Not the stab wounds.
“Yeah, the gum was weird as shit. Definitely not the usual candy for this time period.” You brush his arm off of you and move your body around to feign looking over the church in attempt to hide the action. “You never know though, they might be more modern than we think.” He watches you with a straight face that breaks out into a smile instantly. Mobius nods and grins at you.
“I agree. No time variance there.” His voice is sarcastic and playful in that moment, but his face falls serious again. “What about the devil?”
You do everything in your power to not flinch or make any indication of discomfort at the question. “What about the devil? I feel like it could be a clue, but it could also just be some kid who learned from a very early age that any evil is done by a creature with hooves who lives in hell.” He continues to watch you and you continue to be as nonchalant as possible.
Finally, he nods. “Maybe.” Mobius turns and you pause to breathe for a moment before following him back to the TVA.
Upon your arrival, things move incredibly fast. Thoughts of the case are abandoned in favor of a much more urgent matter.
A call came in immediately. Before you even had a moment to settle yourself back into the usually stale atmosphere of TVA headquarters, Mobius was rushing you into a room. You almost miss the fact that the air is not stale in the slightest; in fact, it almost felt as though it was crackling with electricity.
“I need to know that you won’t do anything stupid.” The words left his mouth with urgency. The constant glances over his shoulder to the awaiting hall a clear sign that he knew something you didn’t.
Your eyebrows scrunch in confusion, “What are you talking about?” He turns and paces the floor. Once. Twice. Three times before his movements halt.
“The Loki you know isn’t here. He never will be. You understand that, right?” His device flashes in his hand. You don’t know what the flashes mean, but you do know what he’s implying. Loki’s here. Somewhere in this building. In the same general place that you are. Loki is here.
Mobius continues to wait for a response. His foot taps with impatience. “When I took you in, we promised each other that our partnership wasn’t over when we found him. You can’t go rogue on me or this is all over for everyone, do you understand?”
Your breaths come out in rapid little puffs as your mind tries to wrap itself around the unspoken truth here. Mobius is right in theory. This isn’t the Loki you knew at the time you lost him originally. This Loki is still afraid. He’s angry, hurt, confused, and so far from trusting you. Where Mobius is wrong though, is in thinking you aren’t familiar with him at all. You know Loki in all forms, and if it takes a little extra time to make up for lost memories, that would be more than okay with you.
“Hey, I need an answer.” Mobius’ voice was barely registering with you, but you heard it. He’s on edge and you almost panic at the thought of potentially not seeing Loki as soon as possible if Mobius doesn’t think you can handle it.
“I understand and I’m not going to do anything stupid.” You can’t speak the words fast enough and as Mobius searches your eyes for any sign of deceit, you know all he sees is honest desperation. You would do anything to be with him again. That’s the truth.
With an affirming nod, Mobius leads the way to a section you recognize as the courtroom.
The air here is thick, almost unbreathable. The crackles turn to little sparks as you near the doors. How is it that in a place that banishes magic, Loki can still make the ghost of yours come to life? To say that you aren’t prepared to see him again would be an understatement. You traveled through time itself to be near him again, but the prospect of achieving that goal never actually felt like a fantasy you could fully entertain. How very like him to bring your wildest dreams to fruition in the most obscure of moments. Your thoughts all come to a sudden halt when you hear the faint sound of the most narcissistic angel to ever utter a word.
“…because they traveled through time. No doubt in a last ditch effort to stave off my ascent to god king,” Your mouth falls open in silent shock. Of course the first thing you hear from him in years is an accusation, you assume, to have you arrested instead of him.
Your gaze falls on him and you feel a weight lift off your shoulders as you see him, truly see him, moving, speaking, and having just as big a flair for the dramatics as usual. He’s here. He’s alive. He’s okay.
Mobius nudges you to follow him and you both attempt to silently take your seats in the rows lining the courtroom. Your heart pangs as Loki mentions Tony, but you sit and listen, nonetheless. He continues to argue with the judge, bringing up your old team and reminding you of just how much things have changed irreparably.
“Perhaps you can provide me with a task force and resources, and I can return and eliminate them for you.” His hands are spread confidently, but they immediately fall when you let out a short laugh. The comment caught you off guard and a part of you loved that he still thought he could squash your team so easily. Even after all that happened in New York, he never gave up and you loved that about him; even if his determination was a bit misplaced at the moment. Loki is nothing if not confident in his abilities to charm and disarm.
Your hands fly to your mouth immediately when you realize that the majority of the courtroom is staring at you.
That’s when it happens. His gaze pierces into you like a dagger, sharp and oh so welcome to do whatever damage it pleases. Your hand goes down, stopping at your chest where you can feel your heart pounding. Tears slowly well up in your eyes, but you blink them away as quickly as they came.
Loki tilts his head to the side subtly. You know he recognizes you and you know your lame attempt to hide your pain and love was seen right through. He doesn’t say anything though. Even though he was just offering to hunt your team down for sport and turn you in to gain his freedom, he says nothing to indicate you should be on trial. Instead, his eyebrows scrunch together, and he continues to stare at you. There seems to be a hint of sadness in his eyes, but you know you’re just imagining it.
The judge clears her throat, calling the attention of the room back to her. Loki’s eyes slowly move from yours. You continue to watch him though. It isn’t irrational to fear he might disappear at any moment. Not with him, and definitely not here.
You barely listen as he learns many of the same things you previously did about the Time-Keepers and his inability to use magic here. His attempts to conjure his daggers pulls your focus, but not in the same way a conversation would. No, you swear that you feel the frustration and utter helplessness that courses through him. You know the feeling, but this rushes over you just as fresh as the day you lost your powers. You can't be feeling it from him though, and that is reestablished in your mind as his magic fails to conjure.
What does call your attention is the sentencing that Loki receives and the sheer panic of potentially losing him again. You move to rise, ready to put up a fight because you know that being this close and failing is not something that you want to survive. In that moment, you don’t care if they kill you instantly. You just can’t live in a world without him. Not again. If you could find a way for him to escape, a way to feel him one more time and know that there is a chance that he could be okay, that he could live and learn to love again…well, death wouldn’t be so bad at all.
Before anything could happen though, Mobius pushes you back into place with a firm hand and rises. He runs over to the stand, speaking to the judge in whispers that you can’t decipher. Your lip trembles and you choose to scan the room for an escape route instead of focusing on Mobius, and Loki’s impending doom. When you find Loki again, his eyes are fearful and searching just like yours. You’re too preoccupied to notice when his worried gaze lands back on you. You don’t see when the fear slips from him and turns to calmness for a reason that he can barely understand.
The few seconds that Mobius spends by the stand feel like a lifetime, but his words are worth the wait.
“Alright, Loki you’re coming with us.” You have never felt more grateful for the man in your time here. Mobius takes hold of a collared Loki and guides him to the door. Loki shrugs his hand off and glares at him. “Who is us?” You take that as your cue and rise to fall into step on the opposite side of Loki.
Loki’s eyes find you the moment you’re next to him. The first time you met back in New York, you were young and still in training to fight. They had put you in the field out of desperation. When you came face to face with Loki then, you had felt small and insignificant. His confusion when he wasn’t able to control you had sparked a subtle interest in him, but you were still just an insignificant child in the eyes of a powerful god.
Now, standing next to him, you didn’t feel small in the slightest. You felt just as powerful as he had taught you to be. Even if he didn’t remember the endless time you spent together, the nights you cried over the torment your powers put you through and the days he could barely see himself through the monster he thought he was. Even if he had no memory of picnics in the park, dark nights spent teaching you to dance beneath the stars, movie nights, and laughing as you screamed lyrics at the top of your lungs in an effort to get your family to sing along (Tony, Wanda, and Thor often did); it was okay. All you needed was each other. The rest would fall into place.
“Hi. I think we’ve met before.” You give him a smile and continue walking beside them. Loki’s eyes don’t leave your face and you feel him staring as you all leave the courtroom behind. Finally, he shakes from his thoughts and offers you a soft nod.
“Yes. I believe we have.”

A pivotal moment in Loki's season 1 finale was being tweaked and rewritten up until the last minute.
In the Disney+ drama's revelatory ending, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) came to blows once again. This time around, it was because Sylvie was determined to kill He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), but Loki was desperately urging her to reconsider because doing so could cause the Sacred Timeline to branch and herald the return of the enigmatic figure's less benevolent variants ("a bazillion boogeymen") and, more importantly, wouldn't heal the pain in her heart.
"The cost of getting this wrong is too great," Loki pleaded with the enchantress. "I've been where you are. I've felt what you feel. Don't ask me how I know. All I know is I don't want to hurt you. I don't want a throne. I just want you to be okay."
According to director Kate Herron, crafting this surprisingly heartfelt speech was one of the trickiest moments to nail in the finale.
"Me, the [finale] writer Eric [Martin], Tom, and Sophia, we were working on that speech that Loki says to her right up until the day before shooting, because we just wanted to get it right," Herron told EW last Friday. "I think those words — and this came from Tom, 'I just want you to be okay' — were so key because there's pain in that, right? Because he's evolved in ways and he's moved beyond his pain and anger, and he doesn't want that for her. You don't want that for someone you care about. But, she's just not quite on that path yet and she does still have that."

Loki's sweet declaration led to a long-awaited kiss between the two variants; however, they didn't live happily ever after because Sylvie was committed to her mission. After the kiss, Sylvie opened a time portal and pushed Loki through it so she could kill He Who Remains.
"I think for me the kiss was really beautiful because I don't think it was a deception, and I don't think it was a trick necessarily," said Herron. "I think for her, it was almost a goodbye. I think she does care about him, but it's just her feelings toward having to complete the mission overtook because she's not emotionally in the same place he was. I always think of Sylvie in this episode almost like how Loki was in Thor. She has all this anger and pain, and she isn't necessarily going to make the best decision with it."
Where do Loki and Sylvie go from here? Well, viewers will find that out whenever Loki returns for its second season — because it is the first Marvel-Disney+ series to get renewed. (WandaVision was designed as a limited series, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's future is a bit murkier since a fourth Captain America movie is in development.) According to Herron, a season 2 was always in the cards for Loki.
"When I started, we'd always thought about it as its own story, basically, that it was these six episodes," said she said. "Marvel wanted to approach it like a giant movie, so we were always thinking about it like a giant film, but obviously with the second hand of it being episodic and wanting to keep the conversation going across the six weeks. But season 2 came out as we were working on it, and it was just coming out of the fact that Marvel was very excited about the story and Loki, and we'd done a lot of groundwork here but there's always so much more road to travel with him."
Unfortunately, Herron will not be involved in the show's season 2. "I'm only on for season 1, and it's honestly just because I'm so proud of the story we told," she said. "I'd always planned just to come on for [one season], because when we started, this was what we were doing with the story and I'm so grateful to Marvel. It has changed my life and I love the character, but I definitely will be enjoying the second season as a fan, and I look forward to seeing what another director does with it."

Terrigenisis Series Masterlist Divider by @firefly-graphics
As the months went by, the relationship between Steve, Bucky, and yourself became more and more solid. You talked about the future, made plans, and worked through the few issues that had arisen. There had been missions and you had become an integral part of the team. You were happy. You had a job you loved, two men you loved, a home, and a family in your team. It was idyllic. Which terrified you at times. When the fear began to overwhelm you, Bucky and Steve were there for you. They let you express your fears and helped you through them.
You were gearing up for a mission to take out a large Hydra base that had been recently discovered. The intel on its existence was solid even though what was going on there was a mystery. Some information had been gleaned through surveillance but it was mostly pictures of objects with an alien language. Thor and Loki were expected to arrive today to help and give some information on what these items could be.
The team was awaiting their arrival in the conference room except Steve and Tony who were greeting them. You were going over mission details and making tactical plans with the available information.
“So, what are Thor and Loki like?” You ask the group in general.
“Thor’s a good guy. Nice. A little terse at times. Intense.” Bruce replies.
“What about Loki?” You look at Bruce.
“He’s a bag of cats. He’s trying to be… different. Better, I guess. That’s why he’s coming. Thor is trusting him. I guess we’ll have to try, too.” Bruce shrugs as Natasha scoffs.
“Be careful around Loki. There’s a reason he’s the god of mischief.” Natasha warns.
“Noted.” You say just as they walk in. You immediately smile when you catch Steve’s eye but turn your attention to the two Asgardians as they enter. Steve makes introductions as Tony pulls up the intel photos for the two gods.
“This looks to be Kree.” Thor states.
“It is.” Loki confirms as he swipes through the photos.
“Kree?” You say bringing Thor’s attention to you.
“Yes. They-”
“Created Inhumans.”
“Yes. You are familiar with the Inhumans?” Thor asks.
“I am an Inhuman.” You watch the two for any reaction.
“Ah, a fellow abomination.” Loki grins. “What are your powers?”
You stare Loki down for a moment. Interpreting no malice in his remarks, you reply, “Warging, understanding of all vocal communication, increased strength and stamina.”
“Interesting.” Loki narrows his eyes.
“Warging?” Thor asks and you give him a brief explanation.
Going back to the available information, the team gleans all it can to formulate a plan. Afterwards, everyone moves to the common room to relax while Tony has a meal brought in.
“Loki has been watching you the entire time we’ve been in here.” Natasha murmurs to you.
“Novelty, I guess.” You shrug.
“Maybe so. Are you okay?”
“Just have a headache all of a sudden.” You say.
“Want me to get you something?”
“No, I’ll-mmph! Ow. It feels like an icepick in my head.” You say.
Natasha’s eyes widen and her head snaps up, “Loki, stop!”
You make eye contact with the god and feel another stab of pain. Realizing he is trying to get in your head, you push back at the feeling.
“What are you doing, brother?” Thor grabs his arm.
“I just wanted to see how far her capabilities went, brother. She began fighting me. Strong, this one.” Loki smirks.
“Keep your mind games to yourself, Loki!” Steve growls.
“No, it’s okay.” You say. “Try.”
“What?” Steve turns to you with a stern look.
“I want to see if he can. I can’t know how far my abilities go if I don’t push them. Most of my powers have to do with my senses. I’m just curious.” You shrug.
“Doll, I don’t know if that’s a good idea.” Bucky warns. “It was obviously causing you pain.”
“It’s not a big deal. Will you try again, Loki?” You ask.
“At your service, darling.” Loki grins and concentrates on you again. Your head aches almost immediately and the sharp stabbing pain returns but you fight back against it. Using the same thought process you use when warging you concentrate on Loki, pushing back against his mental invasion. The pain in your head increases the more you fight back but you aren’t willing to stop. You feel a surge from Loki and automatically push back at him with a mental force that suddenly turns your eyes green as the god’s and you realize you have entered his mind. Intense pain spikes through you bringing you to your knees as you grab the sides of your head. A scream tears from your throat before you black out.
You wake in Bucky’s arms as he takes quick strides towards the elevator.
“Bucky. I’m okay.” You say.
“You passed out. You aren’t okay.” Bucky says firmly.
“We’re just going to take you to get checked out, sweetheart.” Steve says from right beside you.
“No, I’m fine. Put me down.” You squirm in Bucky’s arms.
“Doll-” “Sweetheart-”
“Down! Now!” You all but shout. Bucky reluctantly lowers you to the floor and you stand, holding his shoulder for support. “Well, that was new.”
“What did Loki do to you?” Steve growls.
“I only did as she asked.” Loki defends himself. “She managed to fight my attempts. It was quite impressive. Not many can keep me out of their mind as she did. And then, she slipped into my mind. It probably overwhelmed her as she’s not used to such an exertion.”
“Agreed.” You say. “I’ve never been able to do that with a human before.”
“You were probably able to because I have to open my mind in order to reach out. That was admirable.” Loki says.
“Uh, thanks?” You laugh lightly.
“Did you see anything?” Loki asks with eyes narrowed.
“It was pretty jumbled.” You admit.
“That’s normal for a first timer. Come, let’s discuss our little experiment.” Loki wraps your hand around his arm and guides you away from your two supersoldiers who glare at Loki as the two of you sit on the loveseat. When dinner is ready, you sit at the table between Bucky and Steve. Loki is seated across from you with Thor next to him and the table is jovial as everyone enjoys the company and food. You notice that Loki retreats into himself during the meal. As soon as the meal is over, you approach Loki again to ask more questions about his abilities. Everyone drifts into the common room while you and Loki sit at one end of the table and talk. He has a great deal of knowledge regarding the Kree, Inhumans, and different abilities. You learn more in two hours than you had in the six months with your Inhuman team.
“Hey Doll. We’re heading to the room.” Bucky approaches to say.
“Okay, Love. I’ll be there shortly.” You smile up at him as he leans down to plant a quick kiss on your lips.
Loki watches as Bucky leaves with a smirk, “So, you and Sergeant Bar-”
“Sweetheart, you coming to bed?” Steve interrupts.
“Soon, Babe. Loki is giving me some history on the Kree.”
Steve eyes Loki for a moment before leaning down to kiss you possessively “Don’t be too long.”
“I won’t.” You smile at him as he leaves. Turning back to Loki, it’s your turn to smirk, “Yes, Me and Bucky and Steve.”
“That was unexpected.” Loki raises an eyebrow.
“I imagine not much surprises you.” You laugh.
“Very little.” Loki says.
“You know, I was prepared to hate you but… you aren’t exactly what I was expecting.”
“I was under the influence of other entities during the Battle of New York. It spoke to the basest part of me. I know I’ll never fully make up for it but I’m hopeful I can do some good to set it to rights.”
“I’m sure you will. Do some good, that is. I should head to bed. Good night, Loki.”
“Good night.” Loki nods his head and joins his brother.
You were impressed with him. Truthfully, you had planned on hating him. After all, he had killed Coulson but when you had slipped into his mind you had felt his remorse. You were honest when you told him that everything was jumbled. The memories and images that came through had been but his feelings had been loud and clear. Inferiority, remorse, contrition, fear, and hope had suffused you when your minds were joined. It had softened you towards him and you hoped that he could find some corner of redemption in all of this.
When you get to the bedroom, you pause a minute to smile at Steve and Bucky cuddled up together in the bed.
“Come join us, pretty girl.” Steve beckons.
“What were you and Loki talking about that kept you so enthralled?” Bucky groused.
“Careful, Buck. You almost sound jealous.” You laugh. “We were talking about the Kree and inhumans and different abilities. I learned a good bit from him. Loki offered to bring some information and writings when he comes again.”
“He doesn’t usually talk to any of us much when he’s around.” Steve says.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. Usually all we get out of him is sly remarks.” Bucky says.
“Huh. Probably a defense mechanism. He feels he has a lot to make up for and know no one really likes him.” You offer.
“How did you find that out?” Steve asks.
“When we did the Vulcan mindmeld. I could feel what he was feeling more than anything else. It told quite the story in and of itself.”
“Loki is a master manipulator.” Steve warns.
“I understand.” You reassure them. “And we leave for mission tomorrow for who knows how long. Is there anything you'd like to do before that happens?”
“Yeah.” “Definitely.” They speak at the same time.
“What would that be?” You ask.
“You.” They say in unison.

The New Compound, July 2025, 7:09pm
The extra hour of sunlight this time of year was the easiest excuse to use for lounging on the roof to watch the sun set slowly. The compound no longer touches the clouds, but it still provides a rich view of the landscape across. There is no blowing of horns or shouts of the road hecklers; it’s a simple hour of solace to rest your chin against your arms, eat your snacks, and watch the sky change colors until nothing remains but the possibility of counting the stars.
“Hey… can I sit here?”
Your heart does a little jump at the sound of his voice. Traitor, you want to say to the pesky organ, but remain quiet as Steve wanders over to stand by you. He’s close enough that you can feel the warmth radiating from his body.
“Do what you will, Captain.” It’s simple enough of a response, you figure. You look down at the granola bar in your hand, turning it over a few times before rolling your eyes at the silly gesture. “Granola bar?”
He nods, watching as you snap it in half, and grabs the piece. “Thanks.”
You eat in cooperative silence. You take small bites, saving the granola bar so you have something to focus on during the length of time Steve decides to stay up here. He seems to be doing the same. “So what brings you out here? Another depressive episode?”
“I happen to have the perfect amount of depressive episodes, thank you very much.”
You snort, “Ditto.”
He takes a small bite and rolls the granola over his tongue. “No, I uh… I actually came out here to watch the sunset.”
“That’s sweet.” You shrug and admit your reason to him without a second thought. “I came out here to be sad, so.”
“Thor’s visit isn’t doing you any good?”
Thor is genuinely looking better. He’s started braiding his hair again, exercising with the help of Quill and Bruce, and participating in conversation without being addressed first. Seeing him makes you happy, but there’s still a glint in his eyes that reminds you of the lowest point of his life. And his lowest point was also yours. Sometimes you just want to forget. “He looks better. Healthier, got some light back in his eyes. It’s just whenever we look at each other we think of the same thing, I guess.”
Steve hums low and his shoulder brushes yours. “Loki.”
“It’s good to reminisce and all but I’ve got my limits,” you say.
“What was the special connection between you and Loki anyway?”
You grin at such an innocent question. Steve had never been close to Loki, didn’t really like him much, but he tolerated the God wandering about. You figure he genuinely wants to know. “I met him a little bit before I was assaulted. Everyone in the compound had their suspicions but no one asked. It was like they were avoiding me but also trying to help, I don’t really know. It was a weird time. And Loki, after we caught that dragon thing and really, really properly met, just straight up asked me why I was so distant all of a sudden.” Your chest warms at the memory. “I told him. And you know what the first thing he said to me was?”
Steve shakes his head a little and his eyes follow the tilt of your mouth. “‘What a cunt’.”
He startles himself into a laugh, the rough word not expected. You continue, “It was the first time I laughed in four months.”
Steve follows your gaze out to the sunset. He suddenly feels guilty, out of the loop, sad. You had only mentioned your assault to him once when you discovered Tony’s afterlife gifts, and he never brought it up again. “I’m sorry I didn’t notice you were-”
“Bucky had just moved into the tower and all of your attention was on him. I don’t blame you for not seeing me.”
It’s true, but Steve doesn’t forgive himself. He’s had two years to check up on you and because of his own selfish choice, he’s let you slip from his fingers. A question bubbles from the back of his mind — one that he doesn’t think twice about finally asking. If he does, he won’t ask. “Do you miss… me?”
“That’s a stupid question.”
“Sam put the idea in my head and—”
You sigh, “Steve, it’s the fact that he had to put the idea in your head. I can lie and say I’ve been all fine and dandy, or I can tell the truth and say I’ve been all fine and dandy. Take your pick.”
Steve stares at you for a long moment, mouth parting around invisible words. You’re staring at the sunset, avoiding his gaze but aware of his eyes on you, and he misses you. He truly, terribly, misses you. He decides he’s got nothing more to lose — he’s already lost you. “Well, I miss you. Do with that what you will.”
The two of you sit in silence for a few minutes: wind in your ears, legs shifting when too much weight has been applied, tiny sniffs of the nose. You don’t really know what to do with that information. Steve misses you. And you miss him. But he doesn’t deserve to know that. There’s been no apology from him, just things he’ll do to appease Sam.
At the three minute mark, you groan quietly and turn to him. “Are you seriously still going to watch the sunset up here?”
Steve smirks and watches you from his peripheral. He really has missed being on the receiving end of your various tones of voices. “I have been told that I’m impossible to get rid of, so yeah.”
His company isn’t all that bad.
Present Day, 2025, 9:07am
Perhaps there were good things that came from being locked up for over two weeks, alone. Last time you were locked up with the team and there was absolutely no special treatment after that. Now you’re resisting the urge to burst out laughing as Steve piles on the seventh massive pancake on your plate; or rolling your eyes as Sam keeps asking if you want more maple syrup — ‘What flavor? We’ve got six!’ — and Peter’s drowning Bucky with questions about who he encountered at the wedding.
“Is it the same as Netflix Narcos?”
“No,” you say bluntly.
“Is the Amazon series legit? Like, did Omar really kill the DEA agent?”
“No.”
“Is Omar as evil as they say?”
“No.”
“Damn,” Peter groans, piling a forkful of pancakes into his mouth. “Nothing’s as exciting as it seems, huh?”
Everyone looks to him, then to each other.
Steve clears his throat, “I was literally shot.”
Mouth full, you follow. “And I was abused for years.”
“And I had to deal with them while with HYDRA,” Bucky says with his mouth full too.
“Man, they shot at me. That counts,” Sam adds.
“And I finally got to use the shield. While being shot at,” Scott says.
You interject, “Technically I was being shot at.”
Even with such a cloud of violence, with gruesome memories — memories that would just be shoveled into the pile of things that no one is ever going to talk about again — you all begin laughing. Poor Peter missed out on a lot, but he can put two and two together. He knows this is his only chance to ask before you all lock it away and call it just another mission. It doesn’t hurt to humor him.
And even though you won’t mention it to any one else unless they ask — this wasn’t just another mission for you or Steve. Things have changed and the both of you know it. The aches within your chest are no longer negative or a bother, but instead are blooming flowers that have laid dormant for years. You’ve been plucking petals for as long as the two of you can remember, and it’s about damn time you both end up on the same page.
Everything has been quiet. Sure, there are bounties on everyone’s head but when is there not? You’ve pissed off more cartel leaders and gang leaders and political enemies than you can count on two hands, so this enemy territory is not all that foreign. You recognize the high trees, the gray skies, the mud beneath your boots. But you’ve got friends on your team that know how to climb those trees; friends on your team that know how to move the clouds and make the sky the talk; friends on your team that would hump through mud and snow watching your six.
You can’t believe you even thought about leaving after the mission in the first place. This is where you belong, where all of you belong, because youre the only ones with good hearts who qualify for the job.
As breakfast winds down, Steve takes the opportunity to sprinkle in moments of long-awaited public displays of affection. When you go to refill your orange juice, he sneaks a kiss on your cheek. When you go to wash your plate, he makes sure Peter is looking the other way before patting your ass. And when you’re the one to envelope his slim waist from behind, he melts in your combined warmth.
“So, about our date,” Steve inquires, cheeks turning pink but voice unwavering. He looks brand new, refreshed, and there’s a shine in his eyes that you haven’t seen since forever. You can’t remember the last time you have, but you figure it must have been back when the world hadn’t yet swallowed him whole. Now, he’s burning bright with the youth his soul has missed.
You jump up and down, “Ooo, exciting!”
Steve takes you by the waist, swinging you in every direction. It’s uncoordinated, messy, and not exactly dancing but it’s pure. “Chinese? Pizza? Just fries?”
“¿Por qué no los tres?” Pursing your lips, you wait for his answer.
“That can be arranged.”
You gasp dramatically, “You’re spoiling me.”
“Well I have two years to make up for it.”
That startles a laugh from deep inside your chest. “That’s gonna be our inside joke now, huh? Two of the worst years of our lives and we’re joking about it.”
He blushes along with you. “I think that describes our relationship perfectly.”
“Our relationship…” Your voice comes out like a melodic whisper and Steve feels it in his bones.
He grins down at you but before he can respond, someone enters the common room rather cautiously.
“Oh, now what the hell are you doing here?” Steve demands, pushing you to stand behind him. The gesture is nice, but completely unnecessary. Friday would have alerted the team if someone entered the grounds armed.
Agent Kavert raises his hands, “Relax. I’m not here to arrest you or anything.”
Steve tries to move his shoulders in a way where Agent Kavert can’t see your head. But you maneuver around him, somehow ending up peeking your head through Steve’s underarm. “If I know the law, and I think I do, you can’t really arrest someone in their own house anyway, right?” You pat Steve repeatedly on his side. “Right?”
Before Steve can respond, Agent Kavert speaks. With Steve guarding you, it seems the only thing Agent Kavert wants to do is get in and get out as fast as he can. “I just came to apologize. Ballistics came back and the evidence does show that you didn’t kill Ernesto Vega. It was Ramirez’s issued gun.”
Yeah, you think. The gun Seda stole.
“Oh, what a breath of relief! I almost forgot I was there.”
He sighs and his lips pull into a small smile. “You’re not gonna tell me where Ramirez is, huh?”
Steve takes this as his cue to leave you two alone, but not before squeezing your hand on his way out. He nods over to Peter, who’s still crouching in the kitchen, unseen by Kavert. Peter gives him an enthusiastic thumbs up, happy to spy for his Captain. But you know he’s really asking Peter to take care of you while he’s gone.
You let out a heavy sigh. Omar has been wanted for years for another murder he didn’t even commit. And now, he’s wanted for another. He may be a giant with morals, but even he can’t escape the gruesome reality that plagues the wicked.
“I don’t even know where he is. If you came looking for answers—”
“No, I just… Everything’s been so fucked up since half the universe came back. And the possibility of an Avenger being bad, having played us for years — I think it just scared a lot of people.” Agent Kavert actually looks sincere. He adjusts his footing and chuckles a little under his breath. There’s a fine line creasing his forehead, but it isn’t formed from stress. He’s smiling, an honest look, and his eyebrows pull inward. “And Shakespeare? Really?”
Rolling your eyes, you shrug and lean back against the counter. “When half the world disappears and takes your family and friends with it, there’s really not much else to do.”
And besides, Loki was really into Shakespeare.
You continue, deciding at the last second to throw Agent Kavert a bone about your past. “Shield didn’t know but Nick Fury did. So did Pierce. And when Shield fell, Fury just hid it even more.” You give him a half smile. “We weren’t helping the cartel. We were slowly taking it apart.”
Agent Kavert nods, thinking it over. “The deal Jackeline made with us was pretty simple. She’d tell us all the inside secrets that she knew and in exchange, no charges against her and none so serious for you.”
Your shoulders slump and you shoot him a blank stare. “Was it really that simple? Like, I could have just used her as my one free call?”
“Joke all you want. You should have called us when Shield fell. The double agent thing was risky and everyone needs help taking down a giant like that.”
“I did have help. Involving more people was never planned.”
“He was just as much our mission as he was yours.”
Agent Kavert, as sorry as he looks, still doesn’t seem to get it. But that’s fine, you think. Not everyone can. And you’re not in the mood to argue anymore. “No… he wasn’t.”
He seems to read your mind because he simply accepts your answer. “I really am sorry for accusing you. And for the government arresting you alone and letting the white man go free.”
A tiny snort tickles your nostrils. Agent Kavert is white, and it’s even more amusing considering he’s being serious. “Thanks… I guess.”
He turns to leave, seemingly normal, until he spins on his heel and claps his hands. “Oh! And by the way — don’t leave the country. The charges of conspiracy and murder have all been dropped. But there’s evidence of drug smuggling. So, you’re on house arrest.”
Your eyes widen and you reply with a sarcastic yell. “Thanks!” He turns to leave again. “You’re fucking with me, right?”
He glances over his shoulder, “Could not have let you just get away with it. Some of that smuggling was under no order from Shield at all.”
“You know I can easily disable that ugly ass ankle bracelet you’re about to give me?”
He chuckles low, and finally waves goodbye. “Goodbye, Agent Y/LN.”
You stand dumbfounded, slightly annoyed, but you figure it’s better than actual jail time. Peter rises from his hiding spot and walks over to you, blowing air from his mouth. “Friend of yours?”
You whip around to point a finger, scream and laugh mixing into one. “No friend!”
Peter finally hears that accent Steve can’t stop talking about.
It’s a tiny portrait, sealed in a tiny frame and hidden in a tiny room. The frame is black with professional wooden carvings that make the sides look like perfectly detailed tree trunks. It’s in between the portrait of Tony and Natasha’s bracelet. Tony wears the same AC/DC shirt Steve has somehow stolen and claimed as his own. He’s got this sarcastic grin, some type of wrench in one hand while his other rests on his hip. He stands in his lab, glasses pushed up onto his head and black soot smudged on his cheek. You think Peter snapped the photo back in 2017.
But the middle portrait is your favorite. It’s the only photo he ever allowed to be taken of him. Brushing your index finger against the glass, you trace the small outlines of Loki’s jawline, to his thin pink lips, to the bulb of his nose, to the waves of his hair. He sits caught off guard, book in his hand and in regular human clothing. He shoots a rather annoyed but joyful look over his shoulder as the camera was shoved in his face. You know for sure Wanda took that photo.
“You’re not dead,” you say as you study the blue of his frozen eyes. A God doesn’t die, you remember him saying. Loki was wrong about a lot of things, but you pray he wasn’t wrong about this. There’s a small part of you that wants to speak the same words to Tony and Natasha, but there’s only so many times the world’s axis can shift for a miracle. You tap the glass, sighing a breath of acceptance, and finally let go. “Whenever you’re ready.”
Smiling up at the ceiling, you think you’re right about this one.
It’s quiet. The only sounds are the mild ripping of wrapping paper and small ‘thank you’s’ from the team. Everyone got each other something — granted, everyone got something small for everyone. No matter how much Tony joked about still splurging on Christmas shopping, his promises weren’t exactly kept. He’s gotten everyone things they actually need or wanted. Steve, a new drawing pad; Natasha, a bright pink knit sweater; Rhodey, a new watch; Bruce, a pair of sunglasses; Nebula, a dark blue knitted sweater that she immediately presses against her cheek, eyes focused on the ground as she savors the soft brush; you, the full collection of Shakespeare's plays and sonnets. And he finally presents the baby’s crib to Pepper, constructed three weeks after she originally asked him to.
“I know how much you like to reenact A Midsummer Night’s Dream in your room,” Tony grins at you. Biting your bottom lip, you throw yourself at him and hug him tight. He returns the hug with just as much strength, if not more.
As the night goes on and midnight rings, your small group exchanges tight-lipped merry Christmas’s and happy holidays. Natasha retires to her room, a distant look in her eyes as she says goodnight. No one knows where Clint is.
Steve nudges your elbow with his once the room empties. He holds out a box with festive wrapping — snowmen with carrots for noses and a variety of pebbled smiles. “From me and Okoye.”
“You got me a gift?”
Steve’s brow furrows as he nods like it’s obvious. “Of course. You’re my friend.”
“Well, now I feel inadequate,” you laugh. It comes out wet and it’s then that you realize you’re tearing up. “I promise to reenact Midsummer for you, okay?”
Steve chuckles, “You got it.”
You unwrap it slowly, half wondering why Steve and Okoye teamed up to get you a present. You. Your stomach churns an innocent whirl.
It’s a long sleeved vest… or sweater. You can’t really tell until you pull it from the box. It’s intricately designed and it takes a moment for you to finally see it, to finally understand, and the moment you do you exhale a wracked breath.
It’s not Wakandan fashion. It’s threaded with the colors and swirls of a place you haven’t called home in years. It has red flowers down the vest portion and multicolored rows down the sleeves and back. It’s made from a thick fabric that’s rarely used this century. Vintage — home.
“Steve…”
Steve clears his throat, “Now, I only did the flower parts. Okoye found it unfinished in… um…”
And there, where tags from brands would usually be, is a small threaded engraving.
‘From Bucky, To our muñeca.’
“He didn’t get to finish it so I thought I would — you know, help? — so it’s really from Buck. Probably an apology for not letting you visit him in Wakanda.”
Steve tries to push out a laugh at his poor joke, but you can see how he’s faltering. You reach up and wrap your arms around his neck, dragging him down so his knees bend, and pour as much nonverbal thank you’s into the hug. He hesitates at first, arms floating awkwardly, until he swallows his fear and wraps his arms around your waist. He holds you to him tightly and breathes in the sweet scent of your vanilla shampoo.
“Thank you.” Your voice is small, but Steve regards the delivery as powerful.
You wear it once, that Christmas night, enveloped in its warmth as you slept. In the morning, you hang it in the back of your closet.
A knock on your bedroom door sounds through your headphones. Bucky peeks his head in, “Is now a bad time?”
Sitting up, you pull the headphones from your ears. “Nope. Just thinking about how I’ve lived several years in the span of one week.”
Bucky lugs in a sports bag in one hand and a manila file in the other. He places them at the edge of your bed and proceeds to bounce in the available space near you. “Yeah, that can be annoying.”
You attempt to shove him away as he tries to steal your blanket. “Did you need anything?”
“Yeah.” He lets you take it, and simply turns on his side to face you. “What’s gonna happen between you and Steve?”
It’s an innocent question, but you know Bucky well enough to notice when he’s stressed. Steve probably told him to mind his business. “We’re good.”
He inspects your face with squinted eyes, “I know what you’re thinking so cut that shit out. This isn’t one of those missions where the feelings will just go away.”
“Funny thing is, I believe you,” you admit, watching as his face does something unexpected. His smile drops suddenly, like he didn’t expect you to agree with him, and then it’s immediately back full force.
“Peggy and Steve - right person, wrong time. You and Loki - right person, wrong time. You and Steve, all those years ago — right person, wrong time.” A weird thing happens: you agree with him again. “But now, after everything — right person, right time.”
“It’s just weird feeling like it’ll actually work.”
“That makes us seem like we’re all broken, doll. We’re not.”
You turn so you’re facing him; two mismatched parentheses. “We’re just tired.”
“We’re just tired,” Bucky agrees, smiling. “I’m not saying don’t look over your shoulder whenever you feel like it. Hell, I still look over mine.”
Snorting, you roll closer to hug him. He pulls you into his chest. “You give amazing pep talks.”
“Yeah, I don’t know why they gave that trophy to Steve.” Bucky shares the intimate moment for as long as it takes before the blanket starts overheating. He groans as he sits up to retrieve the things he brought with him. “By the way, our mutual friend sends one last warm regards.”
Bucky throws the sports bag onto your lap. “What’s this?”
“Your shit.”
You don’t even want to ask him how he packed your things without your knowledge. “Kicking me out, Barnes?”
“Clothes, toothbrush, shampoo and conditioner, pads, the quilt I just finished knitting thank you very much,” Bucky lists and hands you the file. “Maribel found him.”
“Ramirez?”
“Your dad.”
You snap your head up to look at him. Bucky expects to see anger, hurt, maybe even betrayal. He was prepared for it. But you just look confused, lost for words, maybe even scared. “Goes by Richard these days. Lives with his wife in Wisconsin, no kids, keeps to himself.”
You flip through the files, holding your breath. The file is small, Richard’s information only covering the first page, the rest just drabble. He seems relatively normal, looks normal even; normal job, normal credit score, normal upbringing. It doesn’t even seem real. You close the file and set it aside. “So you are sending me away?”
Bucky smirks, “It’s a suggestion. But I took the liberty of doing the hard part for you.”
“Yeah, because packing my lady products is the climax of this story.”
It didn’t go unnoticed that Bucky called Richard your ‘dad’. Everyone either referred to Ernesto as ‘your father’ or by his name. Steve had said ‘dad’ a few times before he met him, then he never said it again. Hell, even you did sometimes.
It’s a sweet distinction and you’re certain Bucky said it on purpose. Bucky takes your hands in his, “It’s been a long time coming. But at least we can both say that the people who hurt us can’t hurt us any longer.”
You can. You really can.
Bucky’s already packed Steve’s shit as well. Steve’s just shoving extra socks into his bag when someone knocks on the door. He expects Bucky or Sam, final words of encouragement, but it’s Scott. And he’s standing there grinning like a mad man.
“So, what’s the verdict, Rogers? You going after her or not?”
Steve huffs a laugh, “Think you already know the answer to that, Lang.”
Scott closes the door behind him and leans back against it. He shoves his hands in his sweater pockets, “Not that it should matter, shut me up if I cross any line, but everyone supports this.”
“Weirdly, I think it does matter. We’ve had you guys picking sides for two years. Selfishly. Like we were having a fucking civil war after everything.”
“Yeah, well.”
Steve huffs a laugh. It’s always going to surprise him just how comfortable Scott is around him now. Not afraid to tease him or call him out on something he doesn’t agree with. It’s refreshing.
“I’m not giving up on her, Scott. Not again.”
Scott nods. Perhaps breaking the mission ethic code wasn’t a bad thing after all, Scott thinks. He gives Steve a proud smile, genuine. “Then I hereby declare our hanging conversation officially closed.”
Steve wanders from his bedroom, to the conference room, to the main living room without an end destination in mind, seeming to just follow his quick feet as they lead him around the halls of the compound. He’s proud of himself, really, because he truly believes he’s learned to swallow his pride, has opened himself up to the possibility of being happy, and accepted that the world has changed and will continue to alter whether he likes it or not. He was, is, and will always be a man out of time — he’ll never fit but goddamn does he feel settled. He hasn’t felt this sane since before the war — which one? — so he relishes in the feeling for a few calm seconds.
He feels tears well-up on his water line and feels the pressure in his temples. He’s at a crossroads — both proud of himself for finally choosing the path he wants and relieved that this week, this mission he has dreaded for almost ten years, is over. He doesn’t know if he should sleep for a month or occupy his time with other things awaiting repair. A build up of five years, grief and loss and happiness all weirdly mixed into one pot, and Steve simply hasn’t noticed the improper portions of each ingredient.
It’s too much.
He thinks about his mental health. Shot to Hell, he jokes with himself. He’s already got the virtual therapy appointments scheduled. He figures he’ll get better with time and if Steve knows one thing for sure, it’s that he’s got a whole lot of that.
He thinks about Sam and Bucky and Scott — his three best friends that have gone to the ends of the Earth and back for him, and who would proudly do it all over again. He thinks about their kind words, their gentle touch, their devotion that Steve still sometimes feels he doesn’t deserve.
And he thinks about you. To anyone else, this was written in the damn stars. No, there wasn’t anything extremely obvious in the first few years. You were friends. Friends that grew to consider each other teammates. Teammates that drew a drop of blood while fighting on opposite sides. Teammates that recognized the true endgame, teammates that helped each other escape, teammates that went silent for two years. Two years of no contact, no signal of survival. Then again, teammates who stood by as their world crumbled around them. Teammates who grew to be friends again, leaning on free shoulders and seeking help through happy conversations and long nights. Friends that brought the world together again, only to rip each other from their own. Friends into the most bizarre of enemies. And enemies back to teammates.
Steve wipes a hand down his face as he fixes the strap over his shoulder. The common room is empty — he likes it this way. That means everyone is either napping, getting food, visiting friends or family, simply living life. The silence is therapeutic.
His eyes fall on a crooked picture frame near the television. He tries to ignore it, almost to the door and ready for another road trip, but he steps back. Then forward, then back again. He groans in frustration of himself and moves to turn the frame back in place, holding it for a few seconds until it stays. But as he lets go, it tilts once more. He tries again — it tilts back.
He pulls the frame from the hook and turns it over. He rightly freezes, the presence of a small pink paper airplane taped near the edge knocking the wind from his constricting lungs. He pulls it off, careful to not tear the delicate post-it.
He never found it. Natasha probably placed it behind this very picture frame in the other compound for him to find. Surely the explosion should have destroyed it — but it didn’t. It’s right here, perfectly intact, just a smudge of dirt on one of its wings. The frame hadn’t been damaged either. It’s real.
He holds the thin piece of paper like it’s the most precious thing in the world.
Steve turns it over between his fingers a few more times, before he carefully folds it back in half and puts it in his wallet. “You’ve got some nerve, Nat. But I hear ya.”
Steve decides to write you back. He hides the letter in that sweater he knows you don’t wear anymore, in the far back of your closet, and marvels at the intricate stitching while he can. He poured his heart out, even if it’s not guaranteed you’ll ever see it.
‘Yes, I found your letter. I found it when I was looking for perfume in your suitcase. The tape was loose and I violated your privacy. I’m truly sorry for that.
But I felt compelled to write you back, in case the reverse happened and I died instead of you. I didn’t write it then, when you were drying your hair in front of that impossibly small mirror you so weirdly called ‘a stupid little bitch’. And you looked so beautiful. But I’m writing it now and maybe I’ll share it with you in person when we’re both ready.
When the world turned to dust, I held on to you. I know exactly why. Natasha bugged me about it also, teasing me whenever I would glance at you too long, or give you the last remaining Oreos I was planning on eating, or whenever I would leave your room in the mornings after a nightmare. She knew nothing was happening between us, but she had this smile whenever she caught me. Like she was happy I was comforting you, and in turn seeking comfort for myself.
You remember how her smile would tilt up more on the left side?
There isn’t a proper way to truly apologize for hurting you. But I will spend the rest of my life trying to make up for it. You at least deserve that.
I returned a different man. And I think that was for the better.
Yes, I wanted the quiet life. I still think I do. And I think you know this — you have always seen right through me.
I now know what Natasha saw. You irritate me, you damn near make me want to choke myself out, but I care for you. We hold each other up, and I’m always rooting for you, and I’m always by your side. No matter how annoying and smart-mouthed you may be.
You’re my best friend — I hope I’m one of yours.
Steve.’
There’s no one currently in the compound who really knows how to change the battery in your car. Bucky tries, does a rather good job too, but he claims he’s winging it and that you should call a mechanic just in case. He leaves you there with two random batteries on the ground, hood of your car open, and without any idea of what to do next. So you chill and wait for the mechanic you hope isn’t going to jack up the price just because he knows who you are.
But he doesn’t seem fazed by you at all — or at the fact he just had to drive through countless checkpoints and security checks just to get on Avengers property. He changes the battery and changes the oil, hooking you up with as many upgrades he can. He even offers to wash it until you thank him repeatedly and that Really, really, you don’t have to do that. Thank you so much!
“Quite a garage you got here.”
There are unfinished projects and random wires falling from the ceiling and enough tools to supply five garages. It’s messy, but it was Tony’s. You accept the compliment and see him out.
“Eh, make sure those windshield wipers work. I hear it’s gonna rain tomorrow.”
You thank him again. The clouds to the west are gray, getting darker as the expanse stretches, but from where you’re standing everything’s blue. You figure the mechanic was right: it’s gonna rain, and it’s gonna rain hard.
The mechanic did good, all things considered. You never thought your old, beat-up Honda could look a few years younger. You flick one of the wipers lightly, testing its strength. It holds, as does the other, but when you go to lift it up it stops halfway. Without wanting to break it, you don’t force it. There’s something blocking the switch.
You grab it before it can accidentally fall into a deep slot; the figurehead of a man, curly hair and beard that matches Steve’s, who also has a prominent and strong nose. You turn the coin over a few times before looking around the garage, down the street, at the remote area where the mechanic has just left. Standing there, mouth agape, you wonder just how in the world you missed the mechanic placing it there.
You were lacking in the spy department nowadays. Oops.
You know you’re not going to find Ramirez. But him giving this back to you? It was his way of saying he’s alright and that he owes you many thanks.
You pocket the coin and accept the fact you just got bested.
It should take a few hours before you hit the first motel. Wisconsin isn’t that far, but you do have to pass through about hundred “middle of nowhere’s”. You pull out of the garage and check your mirrors — completely unaware of the super soldier running full speed to the passenger door. Steve carefully throws it open, somewhat aware of his strength, and lands into the seat beside you.
You hit the brakes hard. “Oh my! Rogers!”
Steve sucks in a few heavy breaths, like he literally ran across the compound to make it. “What? I startle you?”
“What are you doing here?”
“What are you doing? Aren’t you on house arrest?”
You squint at him, “Touche.” Putting the car in park, you turn your whole body to face him. “Answer my question.”
“Thought you were just gonna leave without saying goodbye?” Steve asks, expression much more teasing than serious.
“I’ll be gone for three days tops,” you say, waving your hand in the air. Steve smiles at you, seemingly waiting for you to speak again. You roll your eyes, “You’re coming with me, aren’t you?”
Steve lifts up the small duffel bag you hadn’t seen when he first got into the car. He throws it into the backseat and smiles lovingly at you. “I’ve been told that I’m impossible to get rid of, so yeah.”
“Rhodey said that the ankle bracelet they gave me wasn’t a trusted model. Easy to break off, like they did it on purpose.” You lean toward him, holding your chin up with the palm of your hand. “Should be able to drive free for a few weeks before they suspect anything.”
“Already booked us a cabin for Thanksgiving.”
“What makes you think that I even want you to accompany me on this road trip? Did you like the first one?”
Steve clears his throat and mimes like he’s writing on paper. The next words out of his mouth make your legs turn cold. “No matter how annoying and smart-mouthed you may be, there’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be than here, there, and everywhere with you.”
You blink multiple times, as if that would fix your ears. “...You. Fucking. Didn’t.” Steve reaches over to try and hug you. “No, don’t.” He squeezes harder, smooshing your face in his chest. “Steeeeve!”
“It fell out of your suitcase during the mission and I just… looked,” Steve reasons. He allows you to escape his grip.
“You just looked?”
Steve sighs. He really does look guilty. He pushes a strand of your hair behind your ear, letting his fingers tickle your skin. “I’m sorry I read it. I’ll get out of this car for real if you want me to.”
You arch an eyebrow, “You’re a little shit, but I’m not mad. No one understands privacy these days.”
Steve smiles wide enough for his dimples to pop and his eyes to crinkle. “I’d follow you anywhere, doll.”
“Anywhere?”
“Just name it.”
Humming low, you lean forward. He follows your direction like you’re a lighthouse beaming with light, capturing your lips with his in a sweet kiss. He hooks a large hand behind your head to press you to him harder. You smell like that vanilla scented shampoo he loves so much and feels his heart constrict with a pleasant pulse.
You pull back for air and smile against Steve’s soft lips.
“Well, I’m headed for the middle of buttfuck Wisconsin—”
“Just drive!”
Bursts of laughter fill the car until you’re past the checkpoints and well onto the long roads. The clouds continue to turn darker but they’re inviting, alluring, and it’s not insane that both of you desire thunderstorms because they remind you of family.
Steve watches you from the passenger seat, memorizing the contours and edges of your profile. The roots in his heart begin spreading again; the meat of his heart filling with a soothing promise that his time on earth is no longer rootless. He’s dug his feet in, he’s watered all he’s needed to water, and he feels it spreading within him like newly blossomed flowers in the spring. He has a sudden urge to take out his drawing pad to immortalize the way your mouth tilts higher up on the right side when you smile, to record it forever.
But he’ll remember it. He’ll remember well into this timeline, several years down the road, and even when he’s resting in his grave. So he leans his head back against the seat and chooses to watch the curves of every expression you grace him with. He immortalizes the sound of your voice, the taps of your fingers against the steering wheel, and the accented way you say his name.
There’s a long drive ahead, but he’s excited for it. He’s excited for you. Steve promises himself that he’ll ask you a million questions, and give you a million answers, and share a million more stories.
Right now, he just needs to sleep.
~

A Thousand Worlds
Summary: Fix it fic of sorts after the trauma that was episode 6 of the Loki series. Loki is in pain after discovering Mobius doesn’t remember him. He’s been living in apocalypses to avoid capture by this new TVA until he formulates a plan to get his Mobius back.
Rating: T for later chapters
Emotional angst.
Chapter One.
Chapter Two.
“And so that’s where I grew up, the ends of a thousand worlds.”
The ends of a thousand worlds. The words of his accomplice echoed through the god’s mind as he fiddled with the straps of his worn and tattered holster. The fluorescent above him flickered with every gust of wind that battled against the sides of the building that Loki was crouched down in. He slid his long legs out against the tiled floor in front of him and sat with his head propped against the wall. He sighed. Loki tapped his foot on the door of the space he was hiding in to close it, drowning out the cries of fear from the people outside in their final hours of life. There he sat waiting for the tempad to charge. Alone. Living in another world where every person he met would be dead by the end of the day. Another world where Mobius didn’t exist. His Mobius.
Was this what it was like? For her? To never be able to stay in one place for more than a day? To always see the same faces riddled with fear as they awaited their painful fate? To only know destruction, screaming, fires, earthquakes, the literal gates of hel? To be utterly alone with your only desire to live in the hope that one day your glorious purpose would be fulfilled?
Glorious purpose.
Loki scoffed. The god didn’t know what his purpose was anymore. Taking down the TVA was a complete failure. The chances for fixing the mess they started seemed impossible now as branches grew and new timelines erupted, with endless TVAs to monitor every universe. At least, that’s what Loki assumed. He knew next to nothing about what they had unleashed. It wasn’t the same TVA. Different hunters, different analysts, different ruler. Many he recognized, but they were still different people. They weren’t the same. She wasn’t the real B. He wasn’t his Mobius. And Loki was at a complete loss on how to find them again.
The first tempad he stole only brought him back to the place he snatched it from. The same Time Variance Authority where Mobius didn’t remember him and not a single file existed for Loki Laufeyson, God of Mischief, God of Outcasts, God of Lies. Even when he dragged the analyst through the timedoor into the roxxcart parking lot to access his memories, nothing existed of him. No laughter over silly metaphors, mischief at pompeii, not even the memory of their first encounter in the elevator. It was like they never met. This led to Loki wasting away their days hopping from one disaster to the next until his brain racked up a solution. The TVA never once did follow him. Why would they? No one remembered his brilliant discovery about the apocalypses. He could run free. But as the days whittled by, the hope Loki had began to fade into nothingness.
For awhile he kept track of the places he went and the time that had passed.
Day 1 - I finally stole a tempad and left that dreadful place. I came here first. Hoping I’d see you. But I guess that’s not how time travel works in apocalypses. No trace we were ever here. The storm reminded me of my brother. I hope to see him again one day. Now that I know we could have been friends. Everything was eventually going to be okay.
Day 24 - I’ve been sitting in a coffee shop awaiting the earthquake of 2098. Met a lovely redhead with the most peculiar of tattoos. But alas! Little does she know this friendship could never blossom in the wake of death!
Day 37 - I miss him. My brother. The pain that solitude brings makes me think of home more often. How ironic that the very place that caused me the most pain I miss. But anything is better than this. So today I visited home right before its destruction. I saw my brother. I saw Thor from afar. Oh how I wish I could have talked to him somehow and tell him i’m sorry for being such an ass.
Being there brought back memories of the silly metaphor he made using Mobius’ lunch. The corners of Loki’s mouth crept into a smile at the thought. But that smile faded away in the next second and was replaced with tears.
Day 56 - I went to Pompeii again. I stood in the shadows. I tried to picture your expressions of skepticism at my insane ideas. I tried to picture how your face lit up with pride and joy when you realized I was right. I wish I could have stayed longer but I never can anywhere I go.
He whistled like a bird before he exited through the time door.
By day 125 he had lost his will to live again. It was their fourth visit to Lamentis-1. Perhaps it was a mistake on his part to journey here once more and feel both the pains of betrayal and heartache at the prospect of never seeing Mobius again. The second time they had visited Lamentis, the god decided to stay until the very last second with the false hope that maybe him facing death would create a nexus event. His mobius would come find him and save him at the last second. But the time door never came. Maybe it was because he knew there was a chance to escape and he could take it. Or maybe it was because there were so many time branches no one would care to fix a world that was about to end.
“You were always meant to be alone.”
And so this time Loki threw the tempad to the ground and waited. He watched as the lethal disaster unfolded before his eyes once more, ready to die. Alone. Alone with no one to assure him everything will be alright in the face of death. Not a single soul would know he was gone. No one would care.
But at the last second they saw something on the tempad that made them change their mind. A glimmer of hope.
Any hope Loki had, a glorious purpose he had left to fulfill, it was in finding Mobius. It was the only desire left that fueled him to keep existing. He was all that mattered. His only friend. The only person left among the universes who trusted him and saw beyond his flaws. The only person left who hadn’t betrayed the fragile levels of trust the god could give. He was his hope that one day, he wouldn’t have to be alone.
And so he found himself walking the streets of New York in the summer of 2197, on the brink of some disaster he knew nothing about. Not a single idea when it would happen, where it would occur, and what he was doomed to witness. He saw something that could potentially lead him to his destination. The tempad had given him an alert for an aura match - two of the same people in one place. An oddity. Something that wasn’t supposed to exist.
They weren’t just any entity either. They were registered hunters in the TVA database. Which meant one had to be from another universe.
And he knew the TVA would be coming for them.
He had to get there first.
Loki speed walked down the sidewalk frantically scanning his surroundings for any clue as to what was happening. He couldn’t read any signs of fear or confusion on the faces of those who passed him. He didn’t know how much time he had.
Upon hearing shouts of anger, Loki broke out into a run across the street towards the source, dodging every dystopian vehicle that nearly collided with him in the process. It was coming from the roof of the parking tower. With a snap of his magic, Loki teleported himself to the top, hiding behind a parked vehicle to assess what he was working with.
There were two agents standing about 10 feet away who looked nearly identical, one waving her arms frantically while the other looked on stoically, possibly from shock, with a pruning stick in hand. Loki locked eyes on the tempad fastened to the belt of the frantic one. Then he glanced at the one in the other hunter’s hand.
Well shit.
Now he had to figure out which agent had jumped from the other timeline. He quickly flashed himself closer to the two, but not before one caught on that someone was there.
“I was given orders by a man to…what was that?” one of the hunters asked.
Loki crouched down farther on the other side of the wall. He reached for a dagger, ready to pounce once their suspicions subsided. They listened intently to the words from the first hunter for the first clue on who to attack.
“He sent me here to grab this,” the hunter pulled up someone on her tempad, “entity and leave. Those were the orders given to me. So if you’ll excuse me.”
The other hunter planted herself in front of her clone. “I can’t let you do that. Not until you’ve told me everything I want to know. How are you me? How is this possible?”
The first hunter was from an alternate timeline. Loki took that as his cue. But before he could sneak behind the hunter, he was shot backwards by a blast of energy from a ring of light.
Out from the ring stepped a peculiar man with graying hair who was wearing blue robes and an assymetrical cloak that sparked the curiosity of the confused hunter. Within a split second, the portal closed behind him. Loki laid very still on the concrete and held his breath in the hopes that the man would believe him to be dead.
“You know I can tell when someone is playing dead.”
Loki grimaced and winced as he heaved himself off the ground. He came face to face with the strange man, his hand lingering in the air where he placed the pocket for his dagger.
“You.” was all the man said.
“Am I supposed to know you?” the god questioned.
“You always manage to show up in New York again at the most in-opportune times.” The man raised his hands and Loki mimicked his movements, summoning his daggers in place.
“I’m gonna assume we’ve met before sir, perhaps in the future? I don’t know! And i’m terribly sorry about New York! Look let me explain…” they lowered their hands in their attempt to make peace with the angry man in front of him.
“Dr. Strange.” He kept his fist in the air, golden sparks flying from whatever spell he had in mind to attack the prince with. “And until you prove otherwise Im going to assume you are here for hostile reasons.”
Loki blinked. Well he’s kind of not wrong, they thought.
“Well I’m afraid I can’t prove anything else.” and with that the god blasted the sorcerer into the nearest column with their magic and teleported across the space.
Loki noticed that one of the hunters had disappeared. He assumed she had returned to the TVA. The other was charging towards him fast. He whipped out his daggers to face his attacker, but suddenly his feet were dragged out from under him and he hit the concrete hard. He was being dragged backwards, body scrapping against the concrete. So fast, that the god could barely think about what was happening to him.
When he came to his senses he cut the magic ropes with his powers and rolled across the ground. So he was dealing with another magic user, this “Dr. Strange.” Loki teleported again before he was up on his feet to where he was standing directly behind the hunter.
“D-11…” Dr. Strange said with a hint of caution in his tone.
So this was the man Hunter D-11 was working for. Before the hunter could turn around to face them, Loki snatched the tempad off her belt and snapped himself to the furthest side of the building. Dr. Strange reacted quickly and stood his ground in front of Loki, prepared to attack again.
“Loki, perhaps we can work out some type of deal. What is it that you want? Maybe I can help you. Maybe we can reach a compromise.”
Offer him a deal? Nah.
“I’m done trusting people I’ve just met. All they ever do is stab me in the back.” he conjured the time door behind him.
Strange titled his head. “You do realize we can follow you right straight back to the TVA?”
Loki turned to face him and D-11. “You’ll never find me. You won’t know the first place to look.” The time door closed with Loki inside of it, before the two even had a chance to reach their hands out to follow the god.
…….
And that’s how Loki had ended up here. At Roxxcart again, waiting for the new tempad to charge up before hopping through timelines again.
He breathed in deeply as he felt the bubble of excitement, relief, and happiness build in his chest for the first time in months at the prospect of achieving his goal. Being reunited with the only one who mattered: Mobius. His Mobius.
But as he released his breath in a sigh, his chest tightened again and worry clouded his mind. What if this didn’t work? What if this was just another dead end? What if this was just another one of the countless TVAs that might exist in the vast multiverse?
At first, all Loki felt was sadness and regret in the days following Sylvie’s betrayal. But now all he felt was anger boiling deep inside him. That same unwelcome feeling he experienced after discovering his father lied to him. The feeling that harbored in the abyss of Thanos’ chambers. The feeling that never left his soul until Mobius looked him in the eyes and assured him that he didn’t have to be the villain in his story.
She had taken everything from him and he was afraid he couldn’t wash away the resentment this time. He wanted desperately to feel anything besides the pain he had known for the past year.
He needed to feel love again.
“He cares about you.”
Loki couldn’t wait any longer. He picked up the tempad and tapped the time door request for the TVA home base. He drew in a shaky breath as he paused in front of the portal.
This was it.
He was either about to be reunited with his greatest source of happiness, or find himself hiding in apocalypses again for months as he searched for another plan.
And he would do it. He would search through a thousand worlds to find him.

My Soulmates A God?! Loki x Fem Reader part 3
This is the longest part so far be warned and if you need here's part 1 and part 2. I'm really glad that people like this series so much and I hope you enjoy this part as well! CW: Reader is not treated the best Death mentioned in passing, Self hate, Angst , Cursing
Loki's pov
Two weeks have passed since that women visited my cell and try as I might I cant get her out of my head. The way her lips trembled when I told her I didn't want a soulmate the anger in her voice when she left just thinking about it leaves an aching pain in my chest. I know I need to get out my plan can be complete any day now yet I cant bring myself to through it I just want to speak with her again! "I want to see her again I want her to come back" Those treacherous thoughts keep echoing in my head everyday and each time the doors open to the room I dont even bother to stop myself from looking, hope etched on my face every time. Thor stilled showed up only this time he was always giving me pitiful looks sometimes he would speak about how she was doing, I never said anything back but I wanted to and then as of three days ago he stopped. Three days with him not saying a word to me about her and it was driving me mad I couldn't take it anymore.
It's been almost a week my thoughts are about her more often then not and each time Thor comes in I want to ask if I can see her but I dont. Its near noon the guards are trading shifts and Thor will be here soon "Today I'll ask today I'll make sure I see her again" I stood tall as I faced the door steadying myself to speak to Thor about this problem I was having. When the door finally opens I take a breath this was something I had never done "what if it goes wrong she might not even be willing to see me again" I grit my teeth at that thought so with a new resolve in mind I await for Thor to approach the cell. I waited with baited breath as he walked over, it was clear from the way he walked he had something to say but no matter what it was I would still ask. "Brother I need to know something!" "And what Thor would that be." He stops for a minute looking at me before glancing at the door.
" Have you given up on trying to escape are you willing to cooperate with us now?" 'Am I?' I wasn't sure I wanted to see her again, to see my string tied to another was a sight I longed for but could I give up on my plans? " I truly dont know but I will consider it for a price.' A price and what is that brother?" I want to see that girl my...soulmate" I was expecting him to laugh or sneer to tell me that was impossible but instead he smiled " Wonderful if you think it will help or even if you dont I'm glad you want to see her again!!" He chuckles walking over to the door and letting in someone. When our eyes meet it was like fireworks going off. There she was looking unsure of everything but the light in her eyes was still there and as she walks head held high towards my cell I knew we had much to talk about.
Reader pov
Getting a chance to see Loki again was both the hardest and easiest thing I've ever done. When I arrived at Stark tower the person who greeted me already knew who I was she gave me a pass and told me to head to the top floor " Don't worry J.A.R.V.I.S will make sure you don't get lost" and with that she sent me on my way. Jarvis as it turns out was an AI programed into the tower who led me to the elevator telling me I would meeting with some of the Avengers to talk and thus came the hard part. When the doors open to reveal a penthouse full of people it felt like my heart stopped for a moment six pairs of eyes glanced over but only two continued to watch me. It was Captain America who actually came up to me nodding to the others before leading me into another room.
" Miss Y/N what brings you back here?" The Captain pulls out a chair gesturing for me to sit down before moving to take a seat himself " Well you see mister umm... Just Steve is fine" He smiles before I continue" Steve I-I want to see Loki again... I need to talk to him at least once more! Our eyes meet he looks shocked but not upset in any way" That's not an easy thing to have happen". He says " I know but if you can let me no matter how long it takes it would mean the world to me." It takes him a few moments but after a while, he speaks " Why do you want to see him again. I understand he's your soulmate but.." Steve takes a breath looking at me before standing" I know about what happened last time are you sure it's a good idea, do you know what you'll say?" No, I don't know, I don't know if this is a good idea or what I want to say but I can't just leave it at this I need to say something so please can I?" He sighs telling me to wait before leaving the room I glance at the clock feeling tired and so I lay my head down and await the result's
It was hours later that I got woken up to a light shaking on my shoulder with blurry vision I looked up to the person waking me, Wavy red hair and welcoming yet harsh eyes a woman greeted me stepping away and waiting for me to fully wake up. " My name is Natasha I'm gonna show you back to your room the others have already headed off for the night I thought it might be better if you don't deal with them" She scuffs slightly before walking to the door I hurry to catch up " Thank you" We walk in silence for a while before we make it to the room she turns to me hovering a hand over my shoulder" As much as I don't hate that man I hope it goes well for you and with that, she leaves me alone to settle in my room until I get my answer. The next morning I got it, Thor came to my door early that morning nocking and calling out to me. Furry had said I could see him so Thor was going to take me to him to see if it was he was willing to listen we set off to the holding and cell where I waited and finally he came back with a smile on his face as he led me. Though my head was filled with the worse scenario's walked with confidence I was ready for this no matter the outcome.
Fuck it I was so ready to end this series I was so ready to only have this be three parts but my god this took so long and I want to be proud of this so I making it long. I'm sorry for taking so long and I hope you don't mind waiting. Thank you so much for reading and enjoy this series so far and I hope you stick with it! - Lilly

Dragon Queen
Chapter 10: Long Live The Queen
Summary: Your family finally gets their happy ending.
Notes: Thank you all for joining me on my Blood of the Dragon series! Not sure if there will be a part 3, so for now I will keep the series as incomplete on AO3.
Just when you thought your nerves were at their highest point during momentous events in your life, your body proves you wrong. The day had finally come for your coronation and you couldn’t even believe that this is where your life had lead you.
When you were a little girl - long before the X-Gene reared its ugly head - you had a basic idea of how your life was going to go. There had been a career you had picked (even if it wasn’t a realistic one at the age of seven), a place you wanted to live, and how you wanted a princess wedding (you blamed all those Disney movies you had grown up on). But then your life took a turn for the worst when your eyes slowly turned red. And then the nubs for your wings began to push through. Before at last, your tail bone extended outward into an actual tail. That’s when your parents dumped you on the street before the rest of your physical changes could take place.
And now....now you were looking at becoming Queen of New Asgard. You were a former Avenger and Thor’s wife. If only your parents could see you now.
Well, they had tried to, anyway. And it went as well as one could imagine. You don’t even know how they found you. It was shortly before you were pregnant before Thor had even thought of marrying you. Both of you were taking vacation time from the Avengers in Iceland, visiting sites from the show that had been made from the books you and Thor had bonded over.
The ice-covered lands had been beautiful and your naturally high body heat kept you warm even during the snowstorms. Thor looked so handsome covered in fur from an animal that had roamed his home planet. Both of you dining out on a patio of a local establishment, the wine flowing and laughter filling the air. Until two people who looked vaguely familiar came running up to your table.
“____! There you are! We have looked everywhere for you!” The woman cried, though, her tears didn’t seem genuine.
The man smiled at you, but it didn’t reach his eyes and seemed rather creepy. “You’ve grown into such a fine young woman. Just look at those wings! Who knew they would get so big?”
You shrank back in your chair when the woman tried to hug you and Thor got in between.
“Forgive us, but do we know you?”
“Oh, you must be Thor!” The man went to shake his hand, but Thor just crossed his arms. “Uh, we’re ___ parents. And we’ve missed her so much!”
Your eyes had gone wide at these words, instantly recognizing the pair in front of Thor. Of course, you saw it now. The woman had your eyes before they had changed. The man your color of hair. Both carried themselves in a similar manner. But there was something off. The woman couldn’t look at your eyes, choosing to focus on your nose so it still looked like she was looking you in the face. The man kept his eyes on your wings, only occasionally sparing a glance at Thor.
“Her parents?” Thor’s voice became colder with each word. “The very ones that threw her out into the street when she was only a child? That left her to be scooped up by Hydra and used as a weapon? All because she couldn’t control that she was a mutant?!”
The woman backed up to her husband, her eyes now on Thor. “That’s no way to speak to us! We are her parents.”
You finally found your voice. “I don’t have any parents. Any ones I did have, lost the right to call themselves as such the moments they refused to act as such.”
Your dad tried to take a firm voice with you. “Now, ____. That’s no way to speak to us. We have been worried sick.”
“Have you?!” You rose to your feet and your wings spread out slightly behind you. “Because the last I remember was you-” you pointed at your father “tossing me into the street while you-” now you gestured at your mother “screamed that such an abomination would not be allowed under your roof. So as far as I’m concerned, my direct family consists of Thor and Loki, of the Avengers, and the X-Men. Those who stood by my side, who saw past my mutation. You only come to me now as I have risen above my past and become a hero. I will not let you back in just so you can use me for my fame.”
“A hero?” Your father sneered. “You just found a place with other freaks.”
“ENOUGH.” Thor’s words carried over the restaurant and now everyone was focused on your table. “You will leave my presence now and never try to contact ____ again.”
As if to emphasize his words, lightning crashed behind him. Your parents took one last look at you, before fleeing for their lives. That night, old wounds had been ripped open and Thor did his best to comfort you.
That night, you knew without a doubt that Thor Odinson was the one for you.
And now, here you were, married to him and a mother of his twins. Awaiting your coronation to become queen of his people. It was better than any childhood dream.
“Are you almost ready, my love?” Thor poked his head into the room, seeing you struggle to zip up your dress.
“Almost….got...it,” you grunted as you tried to reach around your wings.
“Here, allow me.” Thor reached over and zipped the dress up with ease.
You turned around to plant a kiss on your husband. “Thank you, my love. Are the twins ready?”
“Ready and playing with Loki.”
“I hope not with his daggers again.”
“No, he promised no more of those until they were old enough to learn proper safety.”
“Somehow that doesn’t put my mind at ease.” You playfully rolled your eyes. “So? How do I look?”
Thor took in the floor-length gown that was deep red with black lace over the bodice and bell, matching your wings and eyes. Your tail twitched nervously behind you.
“You look amazing as always, my Queen.”
“I’m no queen.”
“Not yet. Just a couple more hours.”
And that brought back your nerves. “Are you sure about this? It’s not too late to change your mind.”
Thor chuckled as he kissed the top of your head. “You will do fine, I promise.”
While you tried to always believe Thor when he showered you with compliments and praise, it was still hard to believe you were the best choice for queen. Soon, Thor left to see to the ceremony and you paced your room as you waited.
Hilde poked her head in. “Hey, your grace.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. “Very professional.”
“Eh, I’ll save it for after the ceremony.”
“Save it for public appearances only,” you laughed again.
“So….should I even ask if you are ready?” Your face fell and Hilde instantly ran up to hug you. “Hey, hey, it’s alright. You’ll do great!”
“I just worry that-”
Hilde pulled away so she could look you in the face. “If you’re about to say you’re not worthy of Thor or being a queen, I will literally shake the sense into you.”
That made you laugh once more and you hugged her again. “Thanks, Hilde. I guess then I am ready.”
She called a few guards to make a formation around you as you began your long walk to the throne room. And just like Thor’s coronation, your wedding, and the announcement of your twins, your makeshift family of the Avengers and the X-Men were there to watch your new chapter in your life. To support you as they had when they first freed you from Hydra.
The only faces to be missing were your parents and there would never be a moment in your life where you truly would miss them. Need them. Love them.
Next to the dais, Loki held your son while Helena cradled your daughter. Taking a deep breath, you slowly climbed up the steps to the thrones and stood next to Thor, who looked breathtaking in his armor and red cape.
You turned to face the audience, your wings pulled back and your tail draped to line around the edge of your skirt. Smiles across the room greeted you. Thor stepped up next to you before addressing the crowd.
“Nearly seven years ago, the Avengers were called upon to stop a dangerous weapon that Hydra control. It was soon obvious that the truth was worse than that. That Hydra really had a powerful prisoner. Over time I was lucky enough to earn that person’s trust, setting her free from her prison. We fell in love, got engaged, and she gave me two beautiful children. We have had our fair share of ups and downs, and there is no one I would have by my side than her. My fellow Avenger. My wife. My Dragon Queen.”
The crowd erupted in cheers as Thor moved to placed a silver crown atop your head, then moved to stand by your side. As you both held hands, you couldn’t help the tears that came to your eyes.
No, this wasn’t the fairytale life you had pictured when you were a child. This was far better.

Chapter 2: Either it'll move me
💀💀💀
Usually your work kept you busy and if you were busy, you were content. Not that day. Not since that man ruined your lunch. You were so worked up that when you got back to the garage, you didn’t even finish your sandwich. You barely got anything done as what you did had to be redone in your distraction.
The night was little better as you planned to get the car done so the next time Loki bothered you, you could tell him to fuck off. If his headlight did come in before he left town, you’d send it down to Carl’s to have the work done. You would take the cost from what Bucky gave you to cover your time.
You were on your second coffee by the time you headed down to the garage, your apartment conveniently above as your existence was relegated to that single lot in Birch. At the bottom step you paused as you sipped from the travel mug and listened to the unexpected noise from behind the black door.
You locked all the doors at night, even that between the entryway and the garage that you kept propped open during the day. You stepped closer and tested the handle and bent to examine the lock. You glanced over at the painted front door and found that both had been picked.
Your fingers tightened on the mug. The last person to break into your garage, well, they weren’t around to bother you anymore after Jerome found out. You swung the door open and hauled the hot coffee across the garage towards the only sign of movement.
Loki sidestepped the splash, a few drops along his dark jacket, and continued to tighten and untighten the wrench. He looked at you nonchalantly and his mouth slanted. He shook his head as he let the tool hang perilously from his hand.
“Is this how you treat all your customers? This ungainly assault,” he peered down at the overturned cup beside his car.
“What the fuck are you doing in my garage?” you huffed as you marched over to him and reached for the wrench.
He gripped it tighter as you tried to snatch it from him and held you close as he sneered down at you.
“Two days,” he said “correct?”
“Tomorrow by my count,” you rebuked and pulled harder on the wrench, “not that it gives you any right to break into my garage and touch my stuff.” He let you yank the metal free of your grasp and you pointed it at his chin, “so leave or this time I won’t miss.”
He chuckled, barely bothered by the tool pointed at him as his green eyes sparkled, “your count is incorrect. I might be early but your work is due this evening so I will wait.”
“Not here,” you waved the wrench at him and grabbed his arm, “so get out and come back later then.”
His hand covered yours and he pried your fingers from him. He twisted your hand back and you gasped and swung the wrench with your other. You hit his shoulder as he raised his arm in defense and grunted at the sharp impact. He let you go and you swung again. He dodged and shoved you away from him.
“Do not presume to put your hands on me,” he warned, “you know who my brother is, that I associate with your cute local chapter--”
“I’m not one of them and I don’t report to them,” you snarled, “so get out now or you won’t be associating with anyone.”
“Mouthy little bitch,” he slithered, “you touch me again, or even attempt it--”
“I said get out,” you hit the hood of his car and left a dent, “It’ll be another day at least.”
His nostrils flared and his eyes narrowed. He fixed his jacket and sighed. He raised his chin and stiffly strode across the garage and through the black door. You followed feet behind him and made sure he continued outside. You cranked the lock behind him and listened to his footsteps crunch through the snow.
You might not report to Bucky and his goons but he was going to keep the rabble in line.
💀
It was just after noon but you knew Bucky would already be at The Asp. You ventured down the street in your heavy boots, your jacket flapping open in the wind as you were set on your destination and the conversation that awaited you. You nodded at the man who leaned a few feet from the door and sucked on a cigarette.
You entered and shook the snow off your lined denim jacket and kicked off your boots. You looked around at the mostly empty bar. You rarely went there as it was more trouble than you needed. The men were drunk and dirty and like many places in Birch, you just didn’t fit. You didn’t want to fit.
Bucky sat at his usual table, a woman you recognized beside him. She had been a year or two ahead of you in school and a couple behind Bucky himself. You knew she was his new girl but she never really looked happy about it. Knowing him, it didn’t surprise you. He always wanted more than he got.
You crossed to him and stood in front of the round table as his right-hand thug watched you curiously. You raised a brow at Steve and focused on the boss.
“We need to talk,” you said plainly.
“We do?” he asked genuinely confused, “I owe you something?”
“You do and you don’t. I’m not here about money,” you replied, “but it’s important.”
“Alright,” he pointed to the chair in front of you and gestured to his companions, planting a kiss on the woman’s lips before she stood, her lips slightly curled at the corner, and left you. He shifted in his chair as they went and nodded when he was ready, “sorry, if I knew you were on your way, I would’ve kept her in the back.”
You scoffed and shook your head. He was always obtusely arrogant. “I stopped fucking you, Buck, I don’t care who you’re with now.”
“Yeah, yeah, I remember,” he inhaled and placed his hand against the table, “so what is it?”
“This guy, Loki,” you began, “brought his car to me two nights ago.”
“Mhmm, I sent him down. I know I should come down myself but--”
“Please, you hate going down there,” you waved his words away, “it’s not about the car, it’s about him.”
“What about him?”
“He broke into my shop this morning. There was… well, I got a few licks in and for the sake of you I’ve held back but you need to keep him away from me. I’ll fix his car but I’m not dealing with him anymore. He’s a pompous asshole who thinks he can just do whatever he wants.” You stopped yourself, usually not one to go on at length, “he’s your… associate, as he would say it, so he can deal with you, not me.”
He considered you and pulled his hand back to scratch the stubble along his jaw. His blue eyes were intrigued if not surprised.
“He… coming onto you?” he asked.
“No,” you blinked at him dully, “no, he’s just annoying me. You promised me the shop would be my space. He picked my locks, Buck, so you let him know what’s what.”
“He’s new in town,” Bucky sighed, “but I’ll talk to him.”
“You better,” you stood, “because I don’t care about whatever business you got going on, the next time, I’m gonna pop his eye out with a--”
“Don’t be dramatic,” he snipped, “I’ll take care of him, alright?”
“You better,” you said as you backed away, “or you can find someone else to fix up your bikes.”
“Really? You know it won’t come to that,” he sat forward in irritation, “go, he won’t bother you.”
💀
The next day you looked over the front of the car. Aside from the cracked headlight, it was as good as new. You rolled up the garage door and took the keys from the hook. You drove the car out and steered it along the snowy street and parked just outside The Asp. You got out and headed inside to hand off the keys to Bucky with a promise that you would take care of the light when it came in as long as he kept Loki away.
You returned to the garage to close the door and checked the time. You were overdue for lunch and hadn’t been back to The Chipped Saucer since that eventful day. You were hungry and too lazy to climb up to your apartment and dig through your fridge.
You crossed the street and entered the diner as Kimmie looked up from the harlequin novel she hid behind as she stood by the till. She marked her page and closed it before she grabbed the carafe from the machine and crossed to your table. She poured you a mug and confirmed your usual order.
There were a few of the older residents enjoying pie and coffee at the other tables but the snow still kept many in their own houses. You might try the strawberry rhubarb before you went. You didn’t indulge in sweets often but it smelled good.
Kimmie brought your sandwich and as you finished the first triangle, you were disturbed by the last voice you wanted to hear. You didn’t look back as the door chimed behind the new patron and you continued chewing as you once more reviewed the newsletter.
To your chagrin but not unexpectedly, the figure appeared at your table side. You bit into the next portion of your club sandwich and ignored him.
“Hello, darling,” Loki sat across from you as he had days before, “I saw that you attended to my vehicle at last. Fine work, I must say. I do hope the headlight arrives soon.”
You said nothing and kept eating as you looked out the window and slid the newsletter aside with your other hand. You took the last gulp of your coffee and swallowed. You raised your cup and looked around, “‘scuse me,” you called out, “when you have a second.”
He laughed to himself and you felt his gaze on you. You pushed aside your uneaten crust and went about your meal as if he wasn’t there. When Kimmie refilled your coffee, he ordered a tea and a bowl of the daily soup.
You barely withheld your grimace as you watched Babs across the street by her bakery. She dusted snow off the open sign before she retreated back inside.
“I’m pleasantly surprised by the food here,” he mused as he stirred a plume of milk into his tea.
“Can’t you take a hint?” you snapped, “I don’t want you near me.”
“Believe me, at first, the feeling was mutual, darling,” he said.
“I told you not to call me that,” you frowned at him directly and he smirked.
“I like the way it makes your eyes go,” he taunted, “admittedly, that first meeting I would’ve liked nothing other than to never encounter you again but the more I poke and prod you, the more intrigued I am.”
“If you don’t stop--”
“You’ll go back to Barnes, hmm?” he intoned, “yes, he did speak with me but I might enlighten you on one fact. The man requires my business more than a mechanic, especially as there seems to be healthy competition in town.”
“You have your car, you’ll have the headlight done, and you can be on your way out of town,” you growled, “and you can be far away from me. Whatever stupid game you’re playing at, I’m not biting. I meant it when I said I won’t miss--”
“Darling, this is not an invitation,” his eyes strayed from your face for just a moment and he considered the buttons of your flannel shirt, “a man like me doesn’t ask, he expects.”
Your eyes rolled so hard it hurt. You pushed your plate away and pulled out your wallet. You left your tab on the table and stood. You shrugged into your jacket and glanced out the window at the white main street.
“Whatever you expect, it’s not going to happen,” you rebuffed, “but I told you what you can expect if you come around me again.”
You left as you had days before and stormed across the street without looking. You dodged out of the way of a slow rolling Ford as it honked and you waved them off. You stomped up to the front of your shop and realised too late you were being followed.
You spun around at the door to face Loki as he slid to a stop. He grabbed your arm and drew you back from the painted wood. You hit his chest and he barely flinched as he flicked your chin with his finger.
“Oh, darling, let’s not drag this out, I do love that temper--”
“Get off--” you pushed him and he nearly slipped and took you down with him as his leather soles held no traction on the frozen ground.
He threw you back and you hit the corner of the doorframe and gasped out as it forced the air from you.
“I promise you, it won’t last. I will damp out that flame and bask in the smoke,” he neared again and you kicked out. He fell to his knees as the force of it had you on your ass.
You crawled away from the wall as he tried to stand and you grabbed onto his leg and pulled him back down. He slid back to his kneeS and gripped the collar of your coat. You hooked your arm around his neck and he jabbed your stomach, not as hard as he could, but a warning.
You brought your other arm up as you struggled to get a foothold and you managed to push you both back. You fell in tandem into the snow, your arms locked as he forced his fingers under them to keep them from snaking tighter. He was strong and you knew you could only do so much. You had to keep him on the ground.
He elbowed your ribs and you released him sharply. You rolled away from him as you panted and scrambled on your hands and knees. The frigid snow seeped through your jeans and burned your palms. You heard him behind you and you turned as you climbed to your feet unsteadily.
He was half-keeled as he got his feet set and his dark hair hung over his forehead as he glared through the strands. He stood straight and pushed back the mess of tangles and you faced him, ready for another brawl.
“Oh, this will be fun, darling,” he brushed the powder from his suit and his cheek twitched, “You needn’t worry about Barnes, you should be more worried about me.”
He puffed out a breath and spun swiftly, nearly slipping again on the icy walk. He headed back down to the street and you saw the tension between his shoulders as he pulled his jacket straight. He hurried across the road and you turned back to the garage.
It was a brief retreat, a chance to plot, you knew that much. You only had to outlast him and if you were anything, it was stubborn.

Stolen - 41
Fandom: MCU Pairing: Loki Laufeyson x fem!gifted!reader Content: Angst, uncertainty, surprises, diplomacy of sorts. A/N: Reminder: this is unrelated to the D+ Loki series. The only thing in common between the two is the background (ie: the MCU movies). Sorry it’s taken so long for this chapter - I’m a mess. Ask or re-blog for tag.
41. Unkillable Monster
... Loki ...
He knows the way, knows when to slip past a pillar and use the temporary cover to alter his disguise into someone else – someone more distinguished whom no one would question as he stalks the marble floors with the red cape fluttering behind him and blue eyes hard as cold steel. At least this way, Loki thinks, you can be of use, brother.
Though the knock is heavy, it doesn’t quite match the hand the Trickster is using. Still, the answer is affirmative and he enters, closing the door behind him as soon as he sees the All-Mother standing there.
“What a surprise” The queen arches a brow with all the disappointment of a mother.
Still maintaining the illusion (and a gleeful smile), Loki knows he has to ensure she is alone before he can reveal himself. “We have to -” The next words die on his lips as the very man he is impersonating steps around the corner from the balcony.
Heavy, blond brows scrunch together in confusion and the Jotun has to credit the real Thor for showing more concern about Frigga’s lack of worry than the fact that he’s faced with his own image. Still, he lifts an arm, hand outstretched to the open archways he just came through in a silent command for the damn hammer to find its way up to this part of Valhalla.
No one talks as they all wait. If I must, I will incapacitate you. Judging by the hard glare, it seems the God of Thunder might be thinking the same of the intruder. Frigga, on the other hand...as soon as Mjølnir slams into the awaiting fist, she throws her arms up in resignation.
“Oh, for Mimir’s Beard’s sake!” A flourish of fingers sends the heavy curtains falling into place to shut out all light and sound from outside. “I knew this was inevitable. Now sit down. Both of you.” She points to chaise-lounges on either side of a low table. “And don’t you dare place that hammer on the table.”
“Mother, I am-”
“No.”
Loki smirks but only for a second as Frigga shoots him a glance. “And you,” her voice is foreboding, “at least have the decency to show yourself.”
Seating herself equal way between them, fingertips burying into the opposite palm and lips pulled thin, the queen waits while the silence becomes oppressing until both “children” do as their mother whishes. A gracefully arched eyebrow is enough to keep the oaf under control even as he reels from the sight of the fallen prince who has the gall to grin in return, but the air still crackles discreetly – Thor is flexing his fingers the way he always does when longing to grip the handle of his weapon.
Come now, Loki beckons silently as his pretend brother stands, do it.
There are unidentifiable emotions mixed into the confusion in the blue eyes; there’s a hesitation in the movements at first when the crown prince steps closer. None of that remains visible to the younger of the gods as strong arms pull him into a tight embrace that forces all of the air from his lungs.
“I’ve missed you, brother,” Thor mumbles with a desperation that scares Loki.
It takes longer than the Jotun appreciates before he is released once more, allowing him to flatten the creases in his clothes as he fights an unusual ache. Thor, on the other hand, doesn’t even attempt to hide the tears gleaming in his beard when he sits once more, smiling fondly at Frigga too and nudging his head towards Loki as if he, Thor, is the one who has known and brought about the surprise.
Finally, the queen turns to her adoptive son. “Did you speak with them?”
“Ah, I suspected you may be behind the arrangement,” the raven-haired male admits.
Until now, Thor has held back the storm of thoughts raging within. “Does fath-...no, of course he doesn’t know. Brother, how long have you been here?” but he doesn’t allow time for an answer, “[Y/N]...you arrived with her. Why? Why would you come? Is this all because -”
“Yes, because of Thanos,” Loki interrupts, suspecting that there will be no end to the questions. “Why else should I bother returning to Asgard?”
She hides it well, the queen. Only Loki notices the slight twitch of her hand when she pinches it as though the gesture could lessen the sting of the words. Only then does he notice that his hands too have busied themselves in a similar manner.
“Because this is your home,” Thor continues, “we are your family and we have been worried about you.” A black brow raised in question is enough for the man to reconsider his words. “Mother and I...there is goodness in you! What we have learned since the...the incident on Midgard, although your actions seemed sincere, it’s clear now that you were not truly to blame and that it was Thanos’ doing.”
“Incident?”
“Boys...” the warning is spoken kindly and calmly but is all the more potent. “Loki, there will come a time when you will have to explain fully what has been...but right now,” she looks to both of them in turn, “we must deal with what might be.”
[Y/N]. But no, the immediate concerns for the two people sitting before him are the advancing forces of Alfheim and the threat which Heimdal has spoken off too.
It soon becomes evident to the prodigal son that Odin has no intention of spending much effort in diplomatic solutions, preferring to trust in the forces of his own realm if Alfheim doesn’t alter its course of action. He has begrudgingly allowed for Frigga to attempt to mediate until they advance too far which he is certain they will.
“Now that your mortal can not call them off, perhaps you can? She has given me the impression that you are in favourable standing there?”
Thor’s words leave a heavy numbness within Loki. “Truly, she is the one they care for. I am no longer owed any favours by them which means they would only heed my requests due to the association with [Y/N].” Even speaking her name hurts. “She is your hope.”
Mother and son look painfully alike as they share a glance of foreboding – sun-kissed hair and bright eyes that served to fuel Loki’s sense of alienation after his lineage had been revealed – and Loki knows that he longing to share in their knowledge will only bring him pain.
“Tell me,” the demand hardens his voice and cools the air.
It is clear that the choice of who answers is strategic.
“Not knowing the extend of [Y/N]’s powers, Odin has placed her in a deep sleep within a prison cell,” Frigga explains. “She is alive and does not suffer...yet her role is that of a hostage.”
“Wake her.”
“Then what? Brother -”
“We must get her away from Asgard, bring her back to the Älfir! Then she convinces them to retreat and call of any incursion.”
Vague ideas begin to take shape thanks to his keen mind – Loki has always delighted in challenges of the mind. Frigga, who had instilled this intellectual drive during this childhood, senses the direction his thoughts are going and together they formulate a plan sound enough that even Thor believes in it. Little do the two know, that Loki has no intention of following through on the latter steps, because he holds an ace unknown to them.

The trial is here. It's the day that your family has been waiting for since this whole nightmare started. Unfortunately, Loki and Jade are both adamant that you remain on bed rest for the sake of the growing baby, and you ultimately end up losing the argument when you try to force them to let you come. Loki assures you that he'll be by her side for the both of you – supporting her the entire time.
In the back of your mind, you know the stress of hearing and seeing the evidence would be too much for you, and no one wants to see anything happen to your baby. Thankfully, Thor also appears to support his niece and brother – sitting on Jade's right as Loki sits on her left.
"I don't wanna see him," Jade mutters – looking down to the floor when Evan walks into the courtroom with his parents.
The teenager looks like he's injured – his leg has a slight limp, and his eye is swollen and dark. However, the seventeen-year-old has a smug smile on his face – his ego being stroked when he sees the television cameras on him. He takes his seat in between his lawyers, and they group together to discuss something quietly. Loki, Thor, and Jade try their hardest to hear what they're saying, but they're speaking far too quietly.
"I don't understand how he could have a defense," Thor says to you and Loki. "How can anyone deny that he did what he did?"
You shrug. "I don't know, Uncle Thor. I just want this to be over with."
The prosecution begins their opening statement by laying out all the facts of the case and making it clear what Evan Nichols is being tried for. His charges are as follows:
- 1st degree aggravated kidnapping
- 1st degree sexual assault (with forcible penetration)
- 1st degree sodomy
- Conspiracy to commit a kidnapping
- Conspiracy to commit a felony
- Felony stalking
- Harassment
- Attempted murder
- False imprisonment
- Assault with a deadly weapon
The first few witnesses to testify are the first responders who saved Jade from the small space she was being held in.
"Could you please state your name for the court and how you became involved in this case?" the prosecutor, Mr. Jeff Bards, began to question the officer.
"Brian David Wilson. I'm an NYPD SWAT officer who responded to the 911 call to 4892 E Graves Road," the witness explains.
"What happened upon arriving at the address?"
The officer took a deep breath before speaking. "We, the SWAT team, forced our way inside the house, and we started searching. I began to hear some muffled pleas for help, and when I followed them, I came across the fake wall in the home's basement. After removing the fake wall, I discovered that there was a small crawl-space type room."
"Can you confirm what the photo on the screen is?" Mr. Bards asks – a photo of the tiny, dark space where Jade had been held showing up on the screen.
"Yes, that is the crawl-space," he confirms
"And where was Ms. Lokisdottir located?"
"She was located in the back corner of the crawl space. She came out from hiding when she saw me, and I pulled her out of the space," officer Wilson stops to take a deep breath and gather his thoughts – trying to push his feeling aside. "Afterward, I carried her out of the house and to the ambulance that was waiting outside."
There's silence as the officer exits the witness stand – looking towards Jade and Loki as he goes to take his seat in the rows. The other officers testify – stating similar things to what the first one did. Then, everyone hears the fateful words.
"The prosecution calls Jade Pandora Lokisdottir to the stand, please."
Loki and Thor wrap their arms around the shaking sixteen-year-old – remind her that they're right there, and if she needs to, just look at them and they'll help her.
"You can do this, my love," Loki says softly. "Just pretend you're having a conversation."
"Okay," Jade nervously breathes out.
Thor hugs his niece close before she stands up. "You are so strong, Jade...just like your parents. You got this."
Jade exhales and nods – trying to walk up to the witness stand without falling. On the way, she refuses to look at the defense's side of the courtroom – disgusted as to how anyone could defend Evan.
Oh well, everyone has a right to a defense.
For a moment, Jade looks towards Evan. A smirk appears on her face when she sees his injuries – wondering who she needs to thank for the revenge. Before Jade turns her attention away, Evan takes the chance to blow a kiss towards her – excited to watch the goddess relive the nightmare he put her through.
"Could you please state your name for the court?" the prosecutor asks – looking directly at Jade.
"Um," Jade's voice is soft against the microphone. "Jade...Pandora Lokis-Lokisdottir."
"And can you tell the court how you came to know the defendant?"
Jade takes a deep breath and exhales – looking towards Loki and Thor for support. "Ye-yes. Um, we met at the mall when my parents took me shopping before the school year started. That weekend, we went out on a date, and then we started dating."
"Were you and the defendant ever sexual?
"Not...really," Jade answers. "Um, we only ever had oral sex, but that's it. I wa-wasn't comfortable with ever going any further than that."
"So, there was never any consensual sexual intercourse?"
"No."
"How long were you and the defendant dating?"
"Four months."
"During that time, did the defendant act inappropriately towards you in any sort of way?"
Jade exhales. "Yes. The last night we hung out together, he tried to force himself on me, but he ran away and drove off when I yelled for my dad."
"Ms. Lokisdottir, can you walks us through the day of September 3rd?"
Jade shakes her head and exhales nervously – looking towards Loki and Thor for their support. This is the first time she's ever spoken about what happened to her, and hopefully, it'll be the last.
"I was...at school, and Evan told me he wanted to speak with me privately, so I followed him out into the parking lot to smoke marijuana and talk in his car. When we got to his car, though, he locked the doors, and he took off from the parking lot." Jade swallows hard before continuing. "Um...I begged for him to stop and turn around – just let me go back to school, and I wouldn't tell anyone. But he didn't. He kept driving – pulling a knife from under his driver's seat and holding it to my throat. I tried to do as he said – hoping that he'd let me go, but he never calmed down. When we arrived at his house, no one was home. H-he led me into the basement and pulled a dresser away from the wall. It was a secret room behind the wall, and he made me...uh...he made me take all of my clothes off, so I was completely nude. He put a collar around my neck, and he connected it to a bolt in the floor so that I couldn't move much. He left for, I guess a couple hours, and he left me in the dark room. I remember how cold it was. It was freezing...especially since I didn't have any clothes. When he came back, he started to...do things."
"Could you explain what things were done to you by the defendant?"
Jade's eyes begin to tear up – her breathing becoming staggered as she thinks about how to word the horrific abuse she had been put through. The looks of support from Loki and Thor, however, give her a strength that she didn't know she had.
"There was...a metal bar," Jade begins quietly – biting her bottom lip to keep her thoughts going. "He had a long lighter with him, and he started to heat the bar up. He was laughing when he pressed the hot metal to my thigh – smiling at me while I screamed in pain as my skin started to burn. There's still a burn scar on my left thigh. When the bar finally cooled down, he threw it to the side. He grabbed me by the chain leash and forced me down to my knees. With his other hand, he...took his penis out of his pants and pried by mouth open. He grabbed the back of my head and used my mouth to get himself off. No matter how much I cried, and begged, and pleaded, he didn't stop. He found it entertaining. It turned him on." Jade looks out to see Loki and Thor becoming angrier by the second, but they're trying their best to remain calm for Jade's sake – knowing that they need to be her support. "After he was...finished, he uh, forced me to lie on the dirty floor. I tried to keep my legs closed, but he punched me in the face, which caused me to jump. Before I could try to close my legs again, Evan had them spread, and he began to...force his mouth...on me. I felt his teeth bite me, and I knew I was bleeding, but it seemed to turn him on even more. H-h-he reached over and grabbed the metal rod again, and h...I'm sorry...can I just...a moment?"
"Take your time," the prosecutor assures Jade – maintaining a professional composure.
Jade exhales deeply – closing her eyes and trying to gather her courage to continue.
"H-he began to use the metal rod to...assault me. He shoved it inside me – giving me cuts and bruises. I was bleeding, but he continued to thrust it in and out of me until he was satisfied. I thought he would finally be done, and I thought he'd take me home, but then I felt him begin to...insert himself...his...penis...into me. I tried to kick him off, but he held my legs as tight as he could to stop me from moving. It...I'm pretty sure he was trying to cause me pain. Finally, I stopped fighting – wanting him to just hurry up and let me go. I tried to stop crying because I didn't want him to be anymore satisfied with himself, but when I felt his fingers start to go into...the other side, I started fighting again. He pulled me up by the chain, and he forced me to look into his eyes. I remember he said that I was now his slut, and he was going to break me until I learned to love it. After a couple of minutes...he...ejaculated into me, which later resulted in a pregnancy. Evan was still wanting more though, so he turned me over and held my face to the floor as he entered my backside. Again, ignoring my cries and screams for him to stop. I lost track of how many times he did this...I think I may have blacked out or something, or maybe my brain made me forget in order to protect me from the memory, but the next thing I remember was being alone, redressed, and I heard the police officers calling out for me."
"Thank you, Ms. Lokisdottir," the prosecutor says with a proud smile.

Please Hate Me //part 43
Fandom: Marvel
Summary: Based on: “Imagine having a love/hate relationship with Loki.” by @thefandomimagine Who would have thought that babysitting a god could be so much fun?
Genre: slow-burn, enemies to lovers, banter
"You know what? This could actually be worse."
Loki tore one eye open, just to check if your surroundings had changed during the short nap he’d taken against the wall.
The cold, humid cell deep under the palace was still bare and just as uninviting as before. The roughly carved stone reminded Loki of the insides of a beast's belly, the edges rounded, the corridors meandering, and that unnerving smell of dampness and mold hanging thick in the air. The only evidence of the dungeons ever being touched by civilized hands were the metal bars set deep in the stone, quite solidly locking you in.
"Are you sure?" Loki asked. "We are being tried for murder, and not even ones we actually committed."
"That part sucks, I’ll concede, but I mean - at least they don't know about Peter. I don't see him in any of these cells."
That was some small relief. Loki stroked your head, currently laid in his lap. He closed his eyes again. There was no rush.
It was difficult to judge the passage of time under the mountain of stone overhead and with no light from the outside. The only sources of it were the strange colonies of small mushrooms, glowing softly in the otherwise complete darkness. Their hats were no larger than the nail of a thumb, and swayed slowly, as if struggling against phantom winds.
The air felt stale in your lungs - to the point where you wondered if the only way to feel a whisper of a breeze again required consuming the luminescent mushrooms if only to catch the barest hint of the breeze that perpetually swayed them side to side.
"Are those toxic?"
"I have no idea."
"Haven't you read about the dungeons?"
"I've never even heard a whisper of them, but to be honest, I never prepared my studies of the Edge with imprisonment in mind."
"You should've known better."
"My bad."
You tapped your foot against the stone, hoping to relieve at least some of the energy buzzing in your veins. The sounds were quickly swallowed by the foggish air, enclosing you once again in the unnerving silence.
No more than a few hours could've passed since you were thrown in there to wait for the trial. You had no idea how much longer it'd take, but if they thought you'd peacefully rot down there for however long they wished, the lords would be in for a surprise.
"Loki, can I cut the bars now?"
Loki sighed. It was the third time you’d asked. "No."
"But I'll just make a tiny little chip to see if the sword would even work on them."
"We literally have nowhere to run to. I have no way of getting us off the Edge, and Heimdall is unlikely to work against his orders again for us."
That posed a problem.
"But I want out."
"You just don't want to pee in the bucket."
"Of course I don't, I still have some basic human decency. Have you even looked at that thing? I wish I could throw it out of our cell… I have no idea why you're laughing, but I'm warning you - if my bladder decides it's had enough, I'm out."
"Don't worry, it won't be long now."
Crossing your arms, you hid your hands from the cold. Your patience was wearing thin, but Loki's calm was a reassuring presence behind your back.
"You've been on trial before?"
"Yes."
"What happens now?"
Loki didn't dwell on the memories that resurfaced in his mind. His last trial had taken place on Asgard, under a vastly different regime. The mark of the traitor had been plastered to his back before he even set foot before his king - and father.
There would be none of that in this trial, for better or worse - Loki hadn't yet decided.
"They'll soon take us before whoever is to make the verdict. The delay is likely caused by the powers weighing in the palace. The High Prince has every right to rule over us, but the Queen won't allow herself to be pushed away, even now."
"I don't think she'll even notice us."
"If there's any conscience left in her from the old days, she will."
That caught your attention. It sounded like a story, and even poor, short stories were better than the miserable wait in the tiny, damp cell with only the mushrooms and a reeking bucket to keep you company.
"I told you that I've been to the Edge before, with my court on official visits. I was never allowed to dwell around this place as freely as I'd wish for, but even I had met the Queen. It was long ago, for beings like us are not confined to the mortal passage of time. She was fading already back then, but her descent had only just begun and the power within her was still thrumming deep, making her grip on the court and its people like iron. There were whispers that with the almost depthless power like hers, her fading would take millenia, and assure the Edge's prosperity throughout that time. The sacrifice she must make would never be forgotten." Loki swallowed. He still remembered the cold, icy touch of her magic. "She's likely clinging to every shred of it."
"She seems like a ghost." You shivered, remembering the brief meeting with what was left of her.
"I wouldn't put it above her to make her final stand a moment to spit Asgard in the face before she completely fades. I'm a prince, after all, even if Asgard cut ties with me. The wars ravaged this land, and the memories are still fresh in some minds."
"Will they sentence us to die?"
"Most likely. The Rifts will surely enjoy drinking our essence."
The images that flashed before your eyes were far from enjoyable.
"So, we stick to our usual plan?" you asked after a moment of silence. Even silence felt sticky in that place.
"I don't recall ever having one?"
"What about being assholes to everyone long enough for some lucky turn of events to save our asses - in our current case, Peter finding the murderer?"
"I love that plan."
The plan was not loved by even one other person, but that was no surprise. Those who had to deal with you once the time had finally come to put you in shackles and drag you out of the cell, were far from happy when a series of unfortunate events halted their preparations.
And those were truly unfortunate, one had to admit. Who would've thought that the shackles on Loki's hands never seemed to fit? They constantly slipped off, much to his own surprise. But Loki was a forgiving god, so he braced through it all with a calm smile and patience of a saint. It only faltered when another set of cuffs was placed over his wrists, weaved from thick, silvery material that seemed to block the source of the struggle, and his magic with it. It was not unlike the bracelet his memory was still adamant to forget, that had complicated his life in the past.
But as saddening as that was, your problems were on a completely different level. It was not everyday that one's legs completely refused to work, no matter how much you willed them to.
A tragedy, that's what it was.
A nuisance, that's what one of the guards said before hauling you over his shoulder.
You wished you could wipe Loki's smirk off his smug face, as he walked behind you.
"I didn't have time to think of anything better," you hissed through clenched teeth.
"Silence!" the order came sharp and loud in the echoing confines of the narrow staircase.
The guards were careful handling you. Their swords were at the ready and you had little doubt they'd be used if necessary. Loki shook his head slightly. You had to wait for a better chance.
The enormous hall you'd been taken to had to lay in the heart of the palace. Rows of galleries overlooked the vast space, separated by thin, winding columns covered in ivy, orange, and red leaves tightly woven. Behind them loomed the river, its wild current sending a cold breeze through the hall. The water murmured a song of endless wrath as it hit the rocks and the shore, ferocious in trying to free itself from its course.
It was the only alive thing in the hall, you quickly noticed as the guard plopped you onto the ground with no ceremony. He stalked back, joining the other guards, their armor unblemished, and swords pointed at you. In front of you, standing on the raised dais at the head of the hall, awaited the Prince and the fading Queen, just as Loki predicted. Pooled around them were the other residents of the palace you could see for the first time. They stood tall and proud in their ashen regalia and shimmering jewelry. Horns bode the air, sharp as knives. Clawed hands clenched, as if imagining the way your necks would feel underneath them. The enemies' necks.
A miracle occurred when your legs suddenly worked again. You moved a little closer to Loki, looking around. But the walls were far and carefully guarded. The only way out was the river, into its thrashing current that dug its way through the mountain and the palace, unstoppable in its rage.
A shadow of the same rage crossed the eyes of the Prince as he beheld you, seeing precisely what all the unexplained events led him to believe. It was a wonder why he bothered with a trial at all. You were sure the river would welcome two more corpses, just as the Rifts would claim your lives.
You couldn't wait for the part where you could at least say you had nothing to do with any murders. There was little you could do to prove it, but it still felt like the only highlight worth waiting for.
Loki understood your concern well. There was absolutely nothing pleasant about murder accusations, true or not.
"How low Asgard has fallen," the High Prince finally broke the silence.
"You have no idea," Loki admitted. "But still not low enough to have anything to do with what we're being accused of right now. We spent the day out in the woods, learning about the Rifts and looking for more clues."
Half-truths were an interesting sort of truth. While they maintained some of their original meaning, part of them always had to be diluted enough to fit into what others wanted to hear. Despite the hurtful claims against him, Loki loved the truth. Truth was his favorite thing more often than not - so much, in fact, that he often preferred to keep a part of it for himself.
"Have you found any?" The question was polite, but there was no interest in the Prince's voice.
That was a slippery ground, especially since all your potential suspects had gathered in that very hall.
Your eyes met with the female guard you recognized. It was the scarred warrior following the Queen. Her short hair stood like a porcupine's spikes, covering part of the thick, winding scar. The woman had a nasty smile on her disfigured face.
Her place was by the Queen's side, her hand on her sword. She looked ready to strike on the Queen's slightest indication - it was lucky then, that the Queen herself appeared as disinterested in her surroundings as always. The pale gown she wore reminded you of old, crumpling papyrus, withered as if held too close to the flame. She stood too far for it to be possible, but you could've sworn the smell of burnt-out candles drifted to you.
Loki wore an easy, pleasant smile - a mask befitting this place. "We managed to secure an object that'll lead us straight to the culprit of the unsuccessful attack in the gardens a few days ago. Much remains to be explained, but I'm sure that'll be a great place to start."
"You stand before me, accused of murdering the wild dwellers of the Edge, and yet you speak as if you still have time." The Prince shook his head.
Looking at his horns, you couldn't get the image of them cutting through your head. The Prince was the first of your suspects. If he wanted you dead, why weren't you already?
"We cannot even be certain that you didn’t stage that attack," the Prince mused. "Where do you have this object you speak of?"
Loki swallowed. "It is currently tracking the source of the spells," he said carefully.
Time was indeed running out, and it gnawed at your bones. There was only so much you could do to delay the inevitable.
Your hands shook, but you put them together. You wouldn't show any of those deadly silent, uninterested lords how hard it was to remain still. How hard it was to breathe.
A splash of color, so unlike anything in the pale, withering hall caught your eye. Making sure not to move your head much, you cast a careful, quick gaze upwards, toward the empty galleries overhead. A youthful face peeked from one of the balconies. Peter.
Loki's words drifted away from you as you focused on the boy, showing you the stone he still held, the mission you entrusted him with. And you frowned as he pointed toward the dais, to the two figures standing there.
The true murderer was there. It had to be one of them.
The Queen remained poised still as a statue while the Prince derided Loki's words. Which one was it?
Peter kept showing you the horns with one of his hands, which could've helped you more in a situation where you didn't stand among lords, jewels shining on all of their many horns, sharp and dull, long and short, but all deadly.
"Where is it then?" the Prince lost his patience at last, the steel toning in his voice. "How can you prove anything of what you claim?"
"It is the stone of Atica," Loki finally said. "I borrowed a part of the spider that attacked us and let the stone find the spellcaster behind it."
Faint whispers erupted among the lords. The Queen's gown rustled like dried leaves, but she remained silent. But there was fury in the Prince's eyes as he shouted "Then where is the stone? How much longer will you make a fool of me?"
"It is here," you said, your voice clear and ringing in the hall as you stepped forward.
Never had you felt so small and irrelevant as in the moment when all the attention focused on you.
Out of the corner of your eye, you caught a glimpse of color, moving from the gallery onto the high ceiling above you, cautious and slow as to not alarm anyone. You took another step, hoping everyone would monitor your movement instead, so close to the dais now that you could count the silver fairies and animals sculpted onto its side in lifelike detail.
So close that the hatred emitting off Faroq, captain of the guard, was close to burning your skin. You had no doubt that if you took one step closer to the Prince, the needle-like sword hanging by his hip would pierce your heart.
"We only hope that you and your people alike will accept the truth," you said and held your hand to the side.
As a stone dropped right into it, a murmur ran through the crowd again. It began glowing, dragging all eyes to it - no one dared look away as you raised it to show everyone the culprit.
But it did not glow toward the Prince, who you stood no more than a few feet away from you.
The stone of Atica held a steady glow toward the left, to the Queen and her guards.
The female guard took a step closer, the expression wild on her scarred face, and for a moment you thought she might spill the Queen's blood.
But you watched the wrong person.
The Queen, merely a decorative part of the palace grounds through all the time you spent there, finally raised her face, her only horn pointing toward the far ceiling.
To Peter, who had gestured with only one hand. Who tried to make you understand.
"Long may I live," the Queen said, her voice ashen and steady.
The power she unleashed was far from faded - that was the single thought you managed to scramble as it hit you hard, sending your body flying like a mere insect.
