I have a lot of feelings but these guys summed them up pretty well imo

The issue is that some fans look at the show as "something Rick made" rather than "a show" and then turn around and look at the movies as "something that Rick did not make" rather than "the movies". Like, we're never going to have a good conversation about what makes a good adaptation unless you kill the author and leave him in the ditch.

The movies function great as movies. The show functions as shit as a show.

Not to even mention the weird ass cult of personality around Richard Riordan in the PJO and adjacent communities. People constantly and rightfully critique him for being shit at writing queer stories without turning them into 2023 Tumblr post, being horribly stereotypical at writing POC (and especially WOC), being biased as hell in writing women (which became even more obvious now that the show is out), being really weird about the cultures he chooses to "represent" (read: appropriate from and profit off without giving back), as well as his overall views, whether they are in the books or surround his space as a writer. Riordan isn't your kind Uncle, he's a millionaire that genuinely does not give a fuck about you. It's unhealthy to have such a strong parasocial tie with a straight white rich man that has in some way failed nearly every community he tried to write about (aside from the "community" of straight white people).

Whoever Riordan was when he wrote the first five books (hint: he was Not Rich), he no longer is. He lost fucking track of what made his books good because he barely writes his own stuff anymore because he's no longer putting in the effort. He doesn't need to, he's rich. He knows there are countless of fans that will "read it anyway" and "watch it anyways" and otherwise engage without considering pirating.

Media that has the least input from him (the movies, the musical) score as being better at capturing the spirit of his own books, and that should tell you something.

P. S. The first five books hold some sort of place in my heart, but I consider the rest of the franchise money-grabbing, clout-chasing trash. Mysteriously enough, his best post-PJO books are (likely) ghostwritten.

can't believe blackwood farm is just a cheesy text-based supernatural fantasy romance rpg game. quinn is just a blank-slated self-insert player character. He gave off "player character who can be selected as either "male" or "female" on the start-up screen but the choice doesn't impact the story whatsoever because the dialogues and choices would be literally the same" vibe. Meanwhile, lestat, former villain, current anti-hero, now a featured bisexual love interest that everybody calls "playersexual". This book has only one purpose, and it is to let you imagine what's like to want to fuck lestat through the perspective of the most pathetic most livejournal fanfiction.net self-insert character ever who also happens to be a bit louis look-alike. This book is so fucking bad, but at least it's hilarious.

I am metaphorically grabbing everybody I know by the collar and telling them to read Some Desperate Glory, unless the subject matter isn't for them which is fair, but it's so good.

I distinctly remember finishing Gideon the Ninth at like 11pm because I couldn't wait until morning, which must be seen in the context of me being asleep by 10pm every night of my life I get a choice in the matter.

I went through a solid decade of reading Hogfather every Christmas and I've probably got a few more left in me.

Tried The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart last year because it was blurbed well and I was in a fantasy mood, and got like...twenty pages in. It didn't leave enough of an impression for me to remember exactly why, just a general 'I don't care about these characters' vibe.

Storm over Mono, which is a really interesting account of the fight to save Lake Mono in California, a scientifically interesting and historically and ecologically unique place.

Technically between books but I'm about to start The Imposition of Unnecessary Obstacles by Malka Older. I liked the first one fine but it didn't grab me grab me, so we'll see how it goes.

My mostly-science book club is going retro and reading Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman which I have been putting off because I have Heard Things about Richard Feynman...but also I gotta gird my loins and get onto it.

Azira Fell and AJ Crowley are both successful authors in their own right, invited to speak at the same national book festival. Despite a falling out a couple of years ago, they've never actually met in person - so this event is going to be excruciatingly awkward for both of them.

As it happens, and unbeknownst to them, it seems they share a love of a certain TV show... and being very active parts of its fandom (yep, it's Fanfic Writer Crowley and Fanfic Reader Aziraphale time!)

Kicking off his shoes, Crowley laid back on the bed, relishing the way it held his tired bones, before navigating to the dashboard on Archive of Our Own. Chapter 12 was in his drafts and he gave it a final onceover, but it was fine; he knew it was because he’d meticulously edited and proofread it several times already.

He tapped “Post”, waited impatiently for the link to become live, then copied it and headed over to Tumblr to add it to his draft there. He’d nearly pressed “post” before noticing he’d forgotten the tags. Crowley tutted at himself (bloody amateur hour) and added, amongst others, #Accurate Prophecies, #Accurate Prophecies fanfic, #Accurate Prophecies fic and, most importantly, #Nuttifer. Satisfied with his work, he sent it off into the fandom and hoped they liked his latest instalment.

As happened every time, a momentary shiver of regret bore down upon his spine. Not about the writing, never that; Crowley had been diligently plucking away at the 24 chapter fic he’d planned out and he knew the outline was good. Wasn’t even like it was his first upload. No, the regret was anticipatory, thinking about what would happen to him if Ana discovered he had, despite her warnings, continued to write fanfic about Accurate Prophecies.

He humphed, letting the phone slide next to him on the mattress, and told himself that it was Ana’s own fault for being too bloody nosy.

“You can’t publish stories where Andrew Nutter is getting ploughed by Thall Pulsifer!” she’d exclaimed, having caught sight of Crowley’s foolishly unlocked laptop screen when he’d been making her a coffee.

“S’a purification ritual,” he’d winked, not fully comprehending at the time that her wide-eyed stare was not one of awe.

Black!Reader Fanfics!

I wanted to share the change happening on this tumblr, I know it’s been silent for a min because of a lot of stuff going on in my personal life and job.

To answer one question continuously no this page isn’t dead lol, as some that follow me see the stuff I like and reblog.

Just making that clear, so the changes is I want to write for different fandoms for black readers and not just one alone. Which kinda of burned me out.

Don’t get me wrong I still love Bi-Han and I have seen the latest things as far as mortal kombat and the other characters. I am heavily still in love.

But I have to be honest with myself, I’m not a person that can only write for only one fandom. I love to many things and I want to see more black women in those fandom. It’s so little, and I will be taking on more requests that won’t be Mortal Kombat alone.

How I Write Black Readers!

Now ya’ll that follow me or even see my blog I am a black woman, so of course I can write black girls and other stuff.

But I felt worried sharing the specific kind of black girl I write, and I love all the other black girl reader stuff. But I sometimes try to find ones with a bit of my personality and such

Examples being; I am super introverted like ya’ll don’t know lol, I’m very shy to as well. I don’t have much ghetto in like I have very ghetto friends we know at least that one friend that’s ready to box the fuck out of anyone lol.

I usually have to be pushed to that level of ghetto, it can slightly come out. But I don’t walk it or wear it on my skin like some of my friends do.

I’m your friendly neighborhood weirdo, super nerdy, bookworm, and I listen to all genres of music literally lol. But the things I read in certain stories for black girls, are music I don’t listen to.

I listen to limited rap songs and I don’t listen to a lot of female and Male rappers especially the new ones. I would listen to a Doja Cat and I love me some Nicki Minaj. The rare times I listen to the others such as Cardi or Ice Spice and others is like when there in features of songs. And if it sounds good. But never listen to there songs alone.

The same applies to male rappers, if anything I don’t listen much to there’s more so. I only find rare gems. I listen to a lot of previous rappers and if they have good new ones.

I just can’t stand gibberish rapping, and music that only talk about the hood, ass, titties, etc alone. That make songs about the same thing lol, not knocking any one that does. It’s just not my taste, so nothing wrong with what you enjoy.

So you won’t see me talking or writing it in my pieces. I like Celtic music, certain kid songs(which ya’ll have to admit some are like bops). Especially Desmond Dennis. I like game soundtracks, and fantasy instrumentals, etc.

How do you keep yourself from feeling down about your haters/anti your ships?

There’s these (literally) 5 girls who think they’re the queens of my current small fandom and their hate is starting to get to me even though I try to let it roll off my back.

Oh goodness, Sass, I'm so sorry. I've been in my fair share of fandom dramas (the worst being last summer) and it's never an easy thing to deal with.

I want to gently correct you, though. The hate DOES get to me. Last summer, there were anons in my inbox telling me I deserved to be sexually assaulted as a child because I support dark fic writers. There were anons calling me a pedophile. There is a 600 note reblog going around the Stranger Things fandom claiming I was a pedophile. I was suicidal at that point, because it was triggering as hell.

But at the same time, I refused to give up MY tumblr space because of bullies. This is my blog. I've had it since 2011, it has been a space of freeverse, of gossip, of art, and of joy. I will not change that for the satisfaction of a few teenagers who think TikTok is activism.

I got through it a few ways.

Turn off anons. I am a stubborn bitch and I only turned my anon off once during that period, right after someone told me I deserved being assaulted at seven years old. I turned it off for one night then turned it right back on, because I hated limiting access to my lovely anons because of bullies--same reason I haven't privatized my AO3 account, even though AI very likely will steal my work. I hate the thought of some anon who reads my fics for comfort being denied access to them. But that's my thing. Turning off anon is the best way to shut off their power to hurt you. If you don't want to turn off anon, delete their messages. I am CHOOSY about which anons I answer. They are reaching out to me, on MY blog, it's my decision whether I deign to answer them or not. If I'm in the right mood for it, I might be trolly and snarky. If they're sweet, I love to hear from them. But I delete just as many as I answer.

Get off the internet. The internet is my space where I can zone out and do whatever I want. Sometimes that means watching a carefully curated selection of TV shows while writing fanfic. Sometimes it means doing TV show meta. Sometimes it's just goofing off. But the internet is chocolate, it's a lovely sweet treat. But if you have nothing but chocolate, you will get sick. Take walks. Go outside. Forget online drama (it's never that serious), enjoy your offline friends, snuggle your furry friends, go out for a cup of coffee and read a book.

Curate your experience. If you see someone with an absolutely RANCID take--like how Eddie wasn't flirting outrageously with Chrissy (sure jan) or Neal was a rapist, whatever. Don't engage, don't comment, don't reblog. BLOCK THOSE BITCHES. Block the people who make you feel weird. Block someone who used to be in your fandom but has moved onto reblogging something that annoys you. Block, block, block. Or use tumblr savior assiduously. When it was really bad in Hellcheer land, I watched Smallville and blogged about it until I felt ready to play in Hellcheer again.

At the end of last summer, the hate started dying off for a couple of reasons.

One, school was starting (yes, I do believe the majority of these bitchy anons are bored children, they ALWAYS have an uptick during school breaks).

Two, I got a book deal. I was too thrilled with my success and though they tried to threaten me, it didn't have much of a sting. My publisher and agent don't give a shit about the latest fandom drama. My editor LOVES horror and darklit.

Three, I fell in love. I have an incredibly wonderful partner who is a writer too (for television! I used to write fanfic for a show he worked on! :D). Autumn was an incredibly wonderful season of joy for me (minus my then-work troubles) which bled into a romantic winter, a challenging spring, and now it's becoming a lovely summer.

I had a bunch of lovely things happen to me that made me realize that the internet is actually quite small. It doesn't matter if STEDDIELOVER69 hates me or believes I'm a pedophile. What matters is that there are plenty of other folks who love reading my work, who like hearing my thoughts, who enjoy my VQ gossip, and those are the people I want to engage with.

Those folks don't know you and the joy you experience every day. Keep that joy close to your heart, as closely as they keep their own bitterness and cruelty.

You'll be all right, love. I promise it gets better.

 College was never enjoyable save for the afternoons that y/n spent in the embrace of a comfy chair and a mug of tea while she tackled her latest homework from her Organic Chemistry class. She always seemed to spend hours at the coffee shop pouring over anatomical diagrams and periodic tables. She occupied the same table so often that the staff became accustomed to her drink order and preference for pastries.

      So here y/n sat, at the same chair, with the same drink, and the same textbooks, studying just like she always did. And like clockwork, another person came to that same coffee shop just as often as y/n and he always noticed her in the corner of the store with a crinkle in her brow and a chewed-up pen in her mouth. Austin Butler was by all means a shy guy, so much so that even though he saw her every. single. time. he came in, he had not yet said a single word to her. Even though he desperately wanted to.

      It was June. And it was hot. So hot in fact, that y/n simply could not take it any longer and decided to take haven inside Crazy Love Café. Despite the weather outside, y/n smiled at the familiar barista as she went up to the front desk.

" Hey y/n! The usual?"

" Yes please!" Her reply came swiftly as she denoted it with another small smile. She paid and sat at her usual spot with a book she planned to read as well as her computer.

" ORDER FOR Y/N. A MOROCCAN MINT TEA WITH SUGAR"

     She couldn't help the smile that graced her face as took a sip of her drink and settled down in the comfy chair to start watching her movie on her computer. The Elvis movie had come out last month and being an avid listener to said singer meant that y/n was required to view this film. So, y/n propped up her computer, opened the streaming website, and put the movie to play, unbeknownst to her, the very actor in the movie had also stumbled into the same coffee to avoid the scorching heat.

     He ordered his coffee and unknowingly sat quite close to the girl viewing his movie.

“ ORDER FOR AUSTIN. BLACK COFFEE!’

    Austin relaxed back into his chair with his coffee and phone resolving to scroll through social media to pass the time. Austin eyed the décor of the shop. It was a quant café with renaissance paintings framed in gold hanging from every wall. Plants scattered the floor as well as the walls and the windows seemed to reflect the sunlight into rainbows onto the wood floor. He followed the reflection of one such rainbow to the face of a girl.

      The first thought that came to Austin’s mind was soft. She looked so very soft. His eyes strayed to her computer only to find her watching, his movie? She was watching.. his movie? Austin immediately faced forward before he was caught zoning out on a girl that was watching his movie.

The main ENNEAD tags (just the series name) are all the most populous for stuff, regardless of platform, particularly the English and Japanese. Horuseth is the next most populous.

As a caveat, exploring these tags and communities assumes you are either up to date with the latest episode in Korean or don't care about spoilers. Fans will sometimes spoiler block panels, meta, or fanworks for the latest episode, but usually nothing older than that, and communities are increasingly flooded with panels from the new episode on the day of the update as the community grows bigger. Your best bet if you don't want to be spoiled because you're reading a version that's behind the Korean (e.g., the English, which is usually multiple episodes behind) is to mute the number for the latest Korean episode while browsing. If you'd like to read the Korean, I made a carrd and a Tumblr post to help. In terms of socials, there are active fan communities basically everywhere!

At the moment, twitter is by far the most populous for anything ENNEAD, cross-language, including fanart, sharing fics in a number of languages (or at least links to them, if not also twitter fics), discussion, meta, and cosplay. Japanese fandom in particular is very active there and posts a lot about fandom events. If you'd like good twitters to follow:

RT ENNEAD is a good general trawler of all things ENNEAD. They do all ships and characters, as well as news, and usually update 2-3 times a day

Mojito is also on twitter and posts things sporadically

Witchcomics, one of the official Korean chapter posters, regularly promotes ENNEAD and raffles for merch. They also post previews for new episodes some hours before the episodes go up.

ENNEAD Japan is an official twitter run by b-boy, who manage the Japanese license for ENNEAD. They use the twitter to announce distribution (webcomic updates), publication (physical book updates), and merchandise.

Papyrus Studio/Studio Papyrus is a group of artists who create fanworks for ENNEAD, including phone calendars, and regularly run fandom events

HoruSeth365/365_with_HS, another fangoods collaboration

Following that, pixiv is a very populous site for fanworks, including fanfics (each tag will have its own fanfic hub, just go to the "novels" tab to see if anything is there). Pixiv is free to use, very accessible if you read English (or obviously Japanese since it's a Japanese art site) but easier to use if you have an account (though you don't have to pay for it, and you don't have to post anything). A lot of twitter artists have been mass dumping all their art on pixiv lately, or near-simultaneously publishing there, so if you hate twitter, pixiv is the place to go.

Archive Of Our Own has a fanfic archive for the community across many languages, with English and Mandarin Chinese dominating (followed by Spanish).

Instagram is the next most populous site for fanworks, mostly just fanart and cosplay, though it's pretty heavily censored, so people just mention their work is on twitter or somewhere else. Also be wary, IG is full of art reposters and folks sharing scanlations. They've also gotten rid of chronological search, so it's hard to browse anything but what came out years ago.

Tumblr also has a lovely archive of art if you want to browse.

If you'd like a Discord, many are locked or dead, but I have an adult Discord open if folks would like to join, where I try to do regular news and event updates on different platforms, as well as share links to fanworks and resources on different platforms, and there are lots of channels to talk about the story, the mythology, and fanworks.

There is a growing but still somewhat small Blue Sky Social community.

There is also a very small pillowfort community.

There are some locked communities on Facebook, and some artists apparently do well there, though there is also a lot of art theft and scanlation there.

I would not recommend using sites like Pinterest, as it's almost entirely stolen and reposted art, without credit. A few artists actually post their art directly there, but by and large, it's the worst place for art theft. TikTok and YouTube are also full of art theft, scanlations, and vitriol.

However, there are a couple of YouTube accounts I'd recommend:

Mojito has a YouTube account, where Mojito rarely posts videos

Papyrus Studio/Studio Papyrus has made collaborative AMVs for the series

There is a subreddit, enneadmanhwa, which is very quiet.

There are fics on Wattpad, but most of them use stolen fanart, or include scanlations. There's a lot there if you want to check them out, just be wary, and please support actual artists, not reposters. There is also a collection of Thai fanfics on readawrite (but again be wary as a lot of them also use stolen fanart).

For information on characters, side comics, physical releases, locations, etc., the ENNEAD fanwiki on FANDOM exists, though it's still under heavy construction. I also have a tumblr post about side comics and extra art by Mojito.

It's 8:39 pm, I just got home and can finally sit down to actually do something...

it has been a rather peaceful day at work today, which allowed me to do some stuff I wouldn't otherwise have the time for later on.

I managed to write down some more french vocab/basic expressions. most of them I already know, but I decided to make more handwritten notes, to practice my penmanship. so re-writing some of the stuff I'm already familar with serves the dual purpose of revision mixed with practise.

[I also decided to write any original or fanfic ideas down on paper as well, to give my eyes some rest from all of the computer and phone screens]

in terms of spanish, I decided to start translating some short stories [1, 2, 3, 4]. it's actually really fun. definitely a nice change of pace.

(then I looked up some short stories for beginners in other languages, and found some for french [1, 2, 3, 4], turkish [1, 2, 3], and arabic - though I was already aware of this one from another tumblr post - [1, 2]; do recommend, though I haven't checked all of the resources yet.)

the two books I'm focusing on this month are: pride and prejudice and silence of the lambs. I felt like catching up on the latter today (it has been a week since I started reading them, and I'm finally moving past my 'burn-out/block')

the visit to my therapist today has been a bit... heavy. emotionally draining. but in the end I feel a bit more at peace with myself.

in order to reward myself for my latest accomplishment (getting full marks on my latest assignments) me and my brother decided to eat some fast food on our way back home. it has been some time since I ate anything like that, and it has felt good to indulge myself. (even better to actually accept the good grade as an accomplishment, without making excuses for myself or downplaying it yet again)

all in all, a very nice day.

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? 

Oh I never had to get into it, I was into fanfiction even before understanding the concept of fanfiction. It always made sense for me to do something (art stories...) from the things I loved. Like when I was a kid, I loved writing and stories, and I also loved this children's book series the famous five, so of course, when I was around 9, I decided to write my own story with the characters (I had no internet at the time, so I had no clue it was actually a thing). I never finished that story but I had like one or two chapters written. Then I got into code lyoko and thought about creating my own fanzine with some of my own stories (still had no idea it was a thing as well). I spent a lot of my middle school doing some rp with my best friend for diverse fandoms by sending each other SMS (and it was at the time you had to pay for each individual SMS). But I got introduced to the actual concept when I got into the Doctor Who fandom and I read a lot, thought of writing some (I had so much ideas) but I never actually managed to write more than a few lines. Then we started actually writing a story together with a friend, based on a game we had played (still on the doctor who fandom). It might still be somewhere online btw but I'm not sure I'll even be able to find it. And then I got a bit away from fandom, but two years ago I went back to it with the le visiteur du futur fandom, and my friend was talking about their ideas for fanfiction, so I went back to reading some, got some ideas myself and started writing once more.

Oh no, this won't work. This is where my ability to follow rules stops. I can't recommend one author or fic, it doesn't work like that you know. It depends on so many things and without even looking at my bookmarks I have three coming on top of my head. So I'll recommend some, but not only one. (I'll do that in another post though to keep my recs at the same place)

❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?

I have plenty of ideas for fics (and I'm not going to share them right now to not lose my motivation too much) but when it is my ideas, I often think I'm the best person to write it, because I know exactly what I want in it.

Though if I had to chose one that I don't want to write, I'd like a neurodivergent equivalent to the queer guardian angel Aziraphale /demon Crowley one, but I don't know who I'd see as the best writer for it (if anyone wants to give it a try though...)

All of them, I love comments ! But once again, if I have to chose, I'd say those who discuss specific parts of the stories or the small details I decided to put, or the ones that makes theories about what is to come next.

☁️ ⇢ what made you choose your username?

My AO3 one is Eweryan and it comes from my friend's universe and the language they created. It means nocturnal and I took it because I'm a night owl and I love the night. For my tumblr one, it comes from my reddit one, which is similar except for the last part. The last part was about chemistry, and I changed it because this is no longer something that I am sure is a big part of who I am. I put chaos instead, because, well, my mind is chaotic and so is this blog. The time travelling part comes from doctor who.

I am actually braving ff.net site since most of the good stuff is there or at lj since the show is 22 years old at this point which is weird because i am so used to the simplicity of a03 (my eyeballs are now old!!!). And I'm trying to find a good (easy) bread recipe that i can make in a small apartment kitchen without a stand mixer. 2024 is the year i will make homemade bread!

Maybe Ryufuyu (Ryusei Satou and Chifuyu Matsuno) from Tokyo Revengers this time?

Ryseui often makes fun of Chifuyu and his love of shoujo manga and romance. But he finds it super cute. And since he also has a huge weakness for Chifuyu, he arranges for him various "scenes" typical of shojo mangas or dramas (like "rescuing" Chifuyu from a cyclist who is riding a good few meters away from them), which are more like pranks and cause Chifuyu's irritation and frustration. at the beginning, but then Ryusei makes up for everything and Chifuyu admits that he is a very charming bastard.

The fastest way is to follow me and create some interactions through e.g. reblogs? Comments? When I see that someone is excited about what I like, I start to feel a connection hahah.

Idk, I can't remember. All I can remember in my head is how I looked for information about what diseases etc. kissing can bring 💀

❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?

I would love to write a Hanahaki Disease fic! I already have it in my head, but this idea will have to wait. Hmmm, who could write it well? Maybe Julie Kagawa could create something good? Her "The Iron Fey" and "Shadow of Fox" series convince me she could handle it. Or Colleen Hoover hahah. She would definitely dramatize this theme even more. Her Hanahaki Disease book would definitely be a bestseller

Honestly, it helps me to read fics or books where the characters are also fans and create something themselves, mainly fanfiction. I can identify with them and feel solidarity. Their passion is contagious, their doubts are my doubts. Stories like this make me feel motivated.

Hmmm I don't think so? Mostly ideas come to me randomly. But "Fruits Basket" was my inspiration to write one fic

When I see some incest tags 💀 If in the fic the romantic relationship is between siblings, I have *ABORT ABORT*. Just like there is a threesome with siblings in the main role. If there are love triangles between a character and two siblings - that's cool, but God forbid such a threesome 💀

If I see that the text is written in a sequence and there are no paragraphs, then I often give up reading

Writers Truth & Dare Ask Game

So, just two days ago after I finished the latest chapter of my fic, I came back to Tumblr for the first time in months to find out there’s been another PJO book out. Lol. I am so out of the loop. I still haven’t fully read anything past Blood of Olympus, never opened up Chalice of the Gods, and never saw anything of the Disney+ series aside from the trailer. I came across “wottg” and I was clueless as to what that even was. 

It feels strange to spend so much of my time writing a ginormous fanfic I love so dearly that is set in a fandom I hardly feel connected to anymore. (Is this where I should also mention that I've also been on and off on for years messily drafting a sequel I will likely never publish, partly because it's just so tragic, although that's also why I am on and off messily drafting other versions of the same story?)

I suppose that goes to show that, once you put it out there, art takes a life of its own, and people who connect with that art at some point are able to make things theirs, even as those works of art and their fans evolve along separate paths.

Maybe one day I'll actually be compelled to get back into PJO canon. For now, I'm more than content exploring my version, and I'm cherishing the fact that there actually people who have continued to read it, even as I know full well that my main fic and any of its current readers may eventually grow apart.
