if a teacher at a Catholic school is a poor role model of the moral life in a public way, they should be fired, simple as. if a teacher at a Catholic school cannot accurately describe and vocally affirm the teachings of the Catholic Church when asked, they should be fired, simple as. if a teacher at a Catholic school is known publically to be a non-practicing Catholic, they should be fired, simple as. Close schools if there aren't enough staff. I don't care. I'm sick of our Catholic schools disobeying the Bishop, the Church at large and pushing relativistic nonsense onto students as Catholicism.

Today, an associate of mine from the Prairielands Freedom Fund informed me that a defendant they've been working with was, yesterday, unjustly sentenced to 5 years in prison. He should have received a deferred judgement. Brandon Jones is a black man and he has 3 children.
I don't normally make posts like this, but I want to share this here in the hopes that it will have further reach. Brandon Jones is a member of my community and he does not deserve to be ripped away from his family like this.
Here is a statement from my friends at Prairielands Freedom Fund:
Tumblr media
Pictured above from left to right are Brandon Jones, his three children, and his partner, Lily Lindle, at Wilson's Orchard in Iowa City.
On March 25, 2024, "District Court judge sentenced PFF participant Brandon Jones, a Black father, to a five-year prison sentence. We posted bond for Brandon in January after he had pleaded guilty but couldn’t pay his bond. He spent two months in Johnson County Jail, a particularly cruel separation where he was apart from his newborn baby over the holidays.
Brandon’s case is emblematic of the cruel, racist punishments inflicted upon Black folks in our carceral system. Separating Brandon from his family inflicts a layer of violence upon their lives — and it does not do anything for public safety.
We’re committed to rallying behind Jones’ family and his partner Lily, and the best way we can support them right now is with financial support. Lily is now a sole provider — it’s crucial that she gets the economic support she needs.
In September 2023, Brandon’s 8-year old son was suspended and told to walk home, alone and in the cold, from an Iowa City School District elementary school. Brandon went to the school to speak with the principal about the situation. Accidentally bringing his legal firearm with him into the school, Brandon was arrested, charged, and held on a $30,000 cash-only bond.
School staff claim they were threatened by Brandon’s presence in the school, and prosecutors jumped at the chance to make an example out of Brandon. Prosecutors claim this case is about public safety — and yet, their target is a Black father who showed up to his son’s school to advocate for his family. This situation starts and ends with racism. We know our district suspends and expels Black children at higher rates. And the reaction from school staff cannot be extricated from Brandon’s existence as a Black man, advocating for his son, a Black student who was suspended.
Brandon took full accountability for his mistake, as evidenced by his guilty plea. His legal team asked the judge to simply give him probation, allowing him to continue caring for his young family. But today, Brandon was sentenced to five years behind bars.
Brandon’s situation so perfectly epitomizes why abolition matters. Abolitionist principles urge us to think expansively about what safety means. By separating Brandon from his family, they are all less safe — especially when considering economic and emotional safety.
[This] outcome was not what we wanted, but we remain committed to supporting this family, and creating a better system than the one they were victimized by today."
Lily Lindle has started a GoFundMe so that she can receive some assistance with raising and caring for the Jones kids: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-jones-family-in-iowa-city

favorite winnix fics pt. 2
pt. 1
these are all "long" winnix fics (like the first list), which I'm defining as around 20k or more. they're in in no particular order, either, they're all great!
duology by leoandsnake, 118k, series, explicit. felt very "realistic" in its own way. Winnix the long way around, which is my favorite. heavy on Nix's alcoholism. I adore the ending to this, as well.
He Shall Live This Day, and See Old Age by CorvidCordelia, 56k, explicit. Great writing, very classic long Winnix fic.
A Spell of Riot by churchkey, 62k, explicit. very intense portrayal of alcoholism and recovery from addiction. depressing and very well written.
A Different War by x_art, 28k, explicit. Dick keeps having dreams about Lewis. Very sweet, great writing.
Lancaster County by raquelelpillo, 37k, series, teen/mature. AU where Nix visits Lancaster as a teenager with his mother and stays for the summer. Essentially Nix and Dick are teenagers in the 1940s and fall in love. definitely one of my new favorite longer Winnix fics. very creative, great writing style, very sweet. made me feel nostalgic for a summer I never lived <3
Long Ago and Far Away by churchkey, 18k, series, explicit. very classic Winnix, well written. the best fic in this series is "This Tender Offering."

Now that I’ve seen “Buck, Bothered, and Bewildered” in the context of the rest of the show I’m going even more insane:
Tommy flies Eddie to Vegas for ringside seats.
He spends time at Eddie’s house.
He gets to know his kid.
He accepts an invite to the pickup game.
No one in the whole episode mentions Marisol.
Lou confirmed that the writers originally intended Tommy and Eddie to get together.
Tommy liked and was attracted to Buck from the beginning; if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t have dated him the moment he realized Buck was interested. But that whole time, while Buck was spiraling and in his feelings about Eddie and (unknowingly) pursuing Tommy - Tommy was pursuing Eddie, and Buck wasn’t an option.
All I can take from this is that when they met, Tommy clocked Buck as straight and Eddie as queer. So I really have to know:
What the hell kind of pheromones do Buck and Eddie give off around each other?
When Tommy whisked him away on the firefighter equivalent of a magic carpet, what did EDDIE think was happening?
How does everyone think Eddie is queer except for Buck and Eddie??

Happy storyteller Saturday (glad we’re bringing this back)! Your characters go to the county fair! What do they eat? What rides do they go on? Who gets so into petting goats they forget to even look at rides? Who wins a questionable number of clearly rigged games? Who gets their face painted? Who overhauls their entire aesthetic based on booths of scarves and accessories? Who finds something hyperspecific to learn about while the others tap their feet impatiently? Etc.
(that last one is based on me going to the county fair and becoming so engrossed in a local history lecture at the museum exhibit I did not even go check out the rides)
Happy STS Moshke! What a fun question!
I feel like the Twins are big fans of the rides and food trucks, they take turns waiting in the lines and babysitting their other siblings, switching whenever they're bored of one task and feel like tagging in for the other. Like Marco loves spinny rides but hates waiting in line for them, Matteo isn't a fan of the spinning but doesn't mind the wait, so they switch when he gets to the front of the line. Meanwhile, Marco gets funnel cake as a favor so when Matteo switches out, Marco can go in his ride, and Matteo can have a treat! They've really hacked the system.
Tess is Extremely Intimidated by all the hubbub and Hannah hates crowds with a visceral passion, so the two of them gladly hang out at the petting zoo.
Quercu would win all the rigged carnival games. She's been sneaking into human fairs for 200 years and she knows all the tricks. She won't keep the prizes though and passes them off to the kids in line who don't have her kind of faerie luck.
Cecelia gets her face painted so that nobody questions when she uses her glamours, just a tiny bit. It looks a little too hyperrealistic, but no adults are looking that closely.
Lady Brigid would enjoy seeing the crafters, though I don't know if she'd completely overhaul her aesthetic (she is supposed to be based on a nun) but she would like to support the arts, so she'd buy a few pieces as gifts for the girls! I also imagine Mrs. Tegan might run a stand like this. In my imagination, she has a large craft room and runs a fairly successful small business out of her home. Cecelia might help her stock inventory and run the table.
If Hannah ever left the petting zoo, she'd get lost at the farm show exhibit with all the heirloom varieties of vegetables and apples, and the panels on local agriculture. She's a huge plant nerd and learning how to yield a successful harvest would interest her. Her dad would find her talking the ear off a gaggle of old-timers and she'd leave with an internship or something sldjsflkjds.
Thanks for the ask!

I've had a lot of people ask for updates or just give well wishes (and I appreciate every single one of you even if I havent been able to respond--Ive been stuck on the tumblr app and mine crashes constantly lol)
Some fun disaster facts for you: they had to get a special crane to remove both the trees due to the sheer size of them, and the second tree (pictured in the top photo but not in the bottom ones bc its fricken impossible to get them both in one shot on the ground) they had to cut at the property line bc it was through both mine and my neighbors house, and the arborists got uppity about potentially further damaging my neighbors house (which I laughed at but like, I get it.)
Our insurance would not condemn or assess the house until the trees were removed. Somehow that is normal.
My house was condemned--it has some insane damage not just from the collapse, but from the second ice storm that followed. The whole place is swollen (some of the floors are crazy to walk on.) Insurance did get a structural engineer to put in supports so we were able to get a lot of things out, but at the same time there's so much more damaged than you'd ever think (given some of the upstairs rooms were untouched, etc.) just from the weather.
It's spooky to walk in, and a lot of professionals wouldn't go near it (can't blame em.)
We're finally in a rental home, and we've picked a contractor to move forward with. Whole things getting razed to the ground and rebuilt.
What's insane is that only three homes so far have been condemned in the neighborhood. My neighbors house in the above image? Yeah they said it's fine.
Which I personally think goes to show how bad insurance is more so than like--the houses themselves being sturdy.
