Fighting for the rights we basically deserve should never be an option in the first place. Children are our investment for a better future and we must nurture them with good teachings and practical learning. These children are brought into this world without knowing what kind of environment will they be raised in. They did not choose who their parents will be and which community should they belong to. But as a citizen who has enough knowledge and compassion to his co-human being, it will be our decision if we choose to harm these people.

Childhood is the stage where kids get to live carefree without having matured problems at hand. It is also the stage where these children are very vulnerable. The child in the illustration is colorless as it reflects his life living in this colorful community. Colorless because he witnessed the brutally destruction of his foundation of development. Colorless equates to emptiness. One thing that could help fill him up is the restoration of peace in his environment.

It is where they are destined - in Lumad community. We have no rights in forcing them to leave on where they are living just for the sake of our selfish desires. We have no rights in taking away their needs for the sake of our wants. The opposite of love is indifference, indeed. We may both differ from our way of living but it is never right to belittle the marginalized. Education deserves to be served to ALL.

Let us be thankful for the volunteers and the people who protects the community at all cost. There is no time to waste in rebuilding the childhood they once lost. Listen to what their hearts are shouting and help them to heal the wounds they are enduring. I stand with the Lumad. #StopTheKillings

Infrastructures and housing projects have become one of the country’s fundamental aspects in improving the economy. Building offers to create more jobs which leads to income increase and reduction of poverty.

But do we really need these high-rise buildings and hectares of residential properties? Do we really need to sacrifice the natural habitat of these creatures for the sake of luxury and satisfaction? The greater the land you own, the higher your social status is. But do you really own the land? Remember: Nobody owns a land and not even a paper will dictate that it is your property.

This illustration I’ve drawn is the view I have from our laundry area. This field is surrounded by houses of different villages. It is the only vacant lot left behind these houses. The owner of this lot decided to make a subdivision out of it but the problem is there’s no available entryway. He offered compensation for those homeowners who’d agree to get their house demolished. One of his priority is our home. Our home is in corner lot and near to the highway which really makes a good entryway. My parents decided to turn down his offer despite the large amount of money. This is the only house we’ve got and it really is hard to find cheaper home these days.

Up until now, the vacant lot still is vacant but I’ve been seeing lives flourishing in that field. I see a family of cow hiding under the shades of some trees, dogs carelessly run around the field, goats, migrating birds, fish in the pond, healthy crops and other creatures who seemingly live a peaceful life in this little ecosystem. I am just happy everytime I do our laundry because of this view I have. This is the last view of greenery we have in our village. I wish to see more vacant lots than vacant houses. I hope more people will consider having practical spaces enough only for their household. All I hope for is having a sustainable environment, community and economy — but not at the expense of one’s ecology.
