Anthony felt the sweat dripping down his neck, the heat of the morning sun already burning into his skin as his shoulder twinged and the ball flew past him.

This was a terrible fucking idea. Terrible. Just take that fucking job at the club and be done with this. Please just be done. If it’s hurting already you’ll never get through the first match. Let alone the tournament.

He loved Wimbledon. He loved everything about it. The smell of the grass and the strawberries and the roar of the crowd. It had always been his favourite tournament. As cliche as that was. He’d said so many times that Wimbledon had been his first Grand Slam and he’d love for it to be his last. He’d been sure that wouldn’t ever happen. That he’d never get a wild card, never get back to where he’d been and now here he was, the tournament not even started yet and he could already feel his shoulder threatening to give way.

He dropped into a crouch, waiting for the ball machine to wind up again, his eyes intently fixed as the ball popped from the machine, flying across the court towards him. He pulled back his arm, and-

“You need to move your feet more.”

Anthony’s concentration broke and he felt the ball clip him on the chin, letting out a yelp of pain and still he wasn’t focused on that. Because Kate Sharma was leaning against the metal fence, watching him curiously. Her dark curly hair was tumbling around her face and she had a sweater draped over her shoulders her sneakers custom printed with her name along the midsole.

Everyone knew Kate Sharma. Well, knew of her at least. She’d burst onto the scene at 16 and won the Australian Open. Her very first grand slam, right out of the gate. Anthony had already been well past whatever part of his career could ever be called the prime and he remembered watching her play with something jealous in his chest for how sure she was of her talent. He’d slipped to world number 93 by then which he supposed was a damn sight better than where he was now.

Anthony clutched his chin, covertly looking behind him to make sure she’d actually been asking to him, “I’m sorry?”

Kate dropped her racquet bag and another ball flew past him. “Are your feet glued to the floor?”

Anthony couldn’t help but gape at how bold she was as she crouched in front of her bag, her legs long in her bike shorts. “Not…today.”

He could have sworn he heard her chuckle as she dropped her sweater to the ground and pulled out her racquet, checking the strings. She mimicked his voice, “Not today.” She turned off the ball machine when she reached the other side of the court, stood in her shorts and sports bra, her hair still loose. “Are there days where they are?”

Anthony blinked at her, “Sorry… what are you…?”

“You’re not going to get anywhere with a ball machine.” She said it as if it as obvious.

“Do you even know who I am?”

He hated to say it but she was at least a decade younger than he was and she might very well not have any idea. Kate raised her eyebrow, “I know who you are, Anthony. Are you going to serve? You could use the one that hit you.”

Anthony rolled his eyes, picking up the ball “Don’t even want to tie your hair back?”

Kate chuckled, the noise echoing across the court, “No. I won’t be sweating. Don’t worry, Anthony, I’ll take it easy on you. I’ll use one hand and everything.”

I'm SO excited to hear you're working now on JeanPiku and AruAni's double date! (And me too, actually!) Looking forward to seeing your result!

Thank you for asking this question, and I'll try to advise something, based on what I usually use:

don't try to imagine just the shoe - sketch roughly the feet itself firstly. No need to do it too detailed, just the lines with the feet silhouette to settle the direction;

as it's sneakers we're talking about, so they're much larger than other types of shoes, so when you start sketching the outline for the sneaker make it bigger, not too drastically, but enough to see the difference between your bare feet sketch and sneaker sketch;

the sneaker sketch itself - don't focus too much on details here, and concentrate only on the shapes and directions line. Here the earlier drawn feet will help to understand how to place the shapes + directions + use reference to help you to visualise how to place it;

if now your rough sketch looks more or less like a shoe - that's great! You can check if your sneaker has the instep arch, the difference at the top of the sneaker for different toe balls etc;

only now, if you're satisfied with the shape, move to the details - adding the midsole (keep in mind that it's a part inside the silhouette of the sneaker, not outside, so that's why I mentioned earlier that it's important to make the shape bigger; tongue, shoelaces etc

So... This is pretty much what I can do to advise, I hope it was a bit of a help for you, Ce! Good luck with this art and I'm very excited to see it (but no rush, of course)
