Coming from ao3, I'm rather enamoured with the idea of finding things easily because of useful, accurate tags. Below is a list of commonly used tags on this blog (though some are unused yet; but I think they'll be employed soon enough), sometimes with explanations in [ ] following. I will be updating it as I add tags.

When looking for a specific thing, it is best to input multiple fitting tags into the search field. Like this for example:

Personally, I have my own understanding of these two, which the description above (snarky, competent, etc...) barely scratches the surface of. I won't go into detail here, but one specific tag in this post of mine gives a most accurate, if vague, representation of my feelings towards them:

What's the criteria to get an ask answered? I've had a few of mine that never did.

It's mostly down to time and mental energy. I do tend to prioritize topics that interest me. It's not personal I just don't have much input for some subjects and nothing to add. Topics I will likely never answer asks about or will respond negatively too. Children- Crew members being children, adopting children, becoming parents. I'd honestly prefer to keep this blog child free.

Highschool AUs- I hate school dramas. The over dramatized, heavily romanticized pastiche of high school life depicted in media is not interesting to me and I don't want to put my characters in it. This one has come up a lot recently, especially in regards to Edward Hyde or Erik, so I'm going to go in-depth about it. Pathologization of characters, mine or otherwise- Half of you guys who come to my inbox trying to figure out what disorder literary characters have are either dead wrong, grossly misinformed about the symptoms of a disorder, or ablest as fuck. I am particularly wary about people projecting autism headcanons onto characters like it's some quirky fun thing to give your blorbo instead of something that actually affects people's lives. And don't think I don't notice that the only autism rep a lot of you guys seem interested in is the Sherlock Holmes brand of autism, "genius with quirks"

People jump to ASD really quickly and I get that a lot of it is people on the spectrum looking for rep but not every symptom that looks like autism is autism. People have tagged posts about my experiences with PTSD as "autism things" or "autism rep" and I cannot stress enough that I am NOT autistic. I have been tested for it and did not meet the criteria. People in my life armchair diagnosing me as having ASD or ADHD is why it took so long for me to seek out help to get the correct diagnosis and a therapy/medication regiment.

ASPD spectrum and schitzoaffective disorders are also wildly overused as "scary" disorders and I want to avoid Edward in particular as having them. NPD and BPD are not universally a cause for jerkass behavior. Sometimes people are just abusive, greedy, self-absorbed, or prideful. Pop Psychology and Pseudosciences- I have -10000 respect for either of these topics. I hate them both and, I do not want to interact with people who believe in them or treat them like they are legit. Keep your love languages, your MBTI, your narc abuse, and your zodiac sign bullshit away from me.

I do appreciate if you guys don't bother me about unanswered asks. I get a lot of them on any given day, my inbox is crawling up to the 300 mark right now so I'll only pick a handful when I'm up to answering asks.

hey hi!! i'll answer with regards to how it presents for me, but keep in mind that it'll probably look a bit different for me because i have other mental illnesses (including personality disorders) that also influence my behaviour ^^ any of my followers are free to chime in with their experiences too, and just looking through the #actually dpd or #actually dependent tags might be a good pursuit too!!

for me it manifests as being very anxious about making my own decisions (even when i don't necessarily recognise it as such; sometimes it presents so casually - asking about something that really doesn't need external input - that i don't notice when it happens). it also causes a deep fear of living alone and being abandoned/losing the people close to me, although the first one may be partially influenced by the fact i'm physically disabled, and the latter is common in some other PDs too. i typically seek validation over little things and share as much of what i'm doing as possible to my close friends in an attempt to reaffirm my acceptance and the fact they care about me, in a way?

for me i also seem to get a bit clingy, which if left unchecked could progress into something worse like overprotectiveness/jealousy and the like. for me that doesn't happen because my other PDs mask that aspect, but i do sometimes feel that possessiveness that i worry about, especially around my depended (DPD's version of the BPD 'favourite person', for lack of a better way to explain it)

being asked to guess or make my own decision causes me some anxiety, and doing things without permission causes a similar stress. i still tell my parents whenever i'm leaving the house and what i'm doing, and sometimes ask if i can go out, and i turn 20 later this year 😭

i can't really think of much else to talk about that isn't just reiterating what i've already said but with different examples, so now i'll leave this open for any followers here to rb/comment and add their own experiences!

(if you're curious, the other PDs i believe i have are AvPD and BPD, which overlap somewhat with these symptoms, but also work to mask some of them too. bc of that, a lot of my experience with DPD is internal)

2.     Are you a pantser or plotter?

I self-identify as more of a Plantser. I delve in both, understand both, practice both.

I used to be more of a Pantser, but I lean more toward Plotter/Planner. It's helped me so much to have an outline, to do background world building, to plan a chapter before I write it. I do, however, need to write to figure some things out. I also do the world building as needed sometimes. Same goes for characters.

So yeah, bit of both, but I've shifted over time.

13.  Describe your writing process from idea to polished

Hm, this seems tricky. My writing process is very strange. I'm still polishing.

Linked in my pinned post on TSP is the backstory of how I got to where I am. It's hard to explain, but I'll try.

I got the idea for TSP from this story I acted out with my stuffed animals when I was young. I don't know why 10 y/o me decided to write an adaptation of this for a school project, but I became obsessed with it. I rewrote it multiple times, staying in each version for a while, revising as I went, until I settled on something that was finally close to what it is today at around 14.

I rewrote it because I got stuck and didn't plan. I didn't have a lot of this draft planned, but I did start to develop one as I went on. This version of TSP lasted a while until I realized I needed to massively overhaul it. Change the timeline, add about half a book of new content, cut unnecessary things, focus more on characters, etc. I started over again.

Throughout this draft, I've taken multiple breaks of overhauling one key aspect. Characters were huge. I needed to make everyone distinct, so I focused on personality, emotions, how they express that, etc. Every time I think of a new thing each character should have, I focused on that for a while. I am currently working on world building the magic system, which will take a while.

I have gone through TSP multiple times, rereading for specific revisions, like character ticks or using Ctrl+F for unnecessary words and phrasing. Last time I was revising I got stuck, so that's why I've decided to world build.

My process of outlining now is quite complicated. I have a master "brainstorming document" as I call it. I have it more organized now though. Sections where I make broad comments on characters and their dynamics, plot ideas for various story threads organized by the part they're in, notes on revision ideas, etc. I also made a brief outline for Part Two listing all the chapters I need to make happen.

I then take those vague outlines and focus more on what I need for the entirety of Part Two. I cross-reference them with my brainstorming ideas to pair together characters and scene ideas. As each chapter comes up, I look at what I have and expand even more on what needs to happen in this chapter. As I go on, I note when I can cut a chapter from the outline because it turns out it became unnecessary. Changing the outline is not a big deal for me at all. I had an idea, but part of writing is the discovery, hence why I'm part Pantser.

When this draft of Part Two is complete, I'll do similar revision sweeps as I did with Part One. I also am writing down ideas for revisions as I go. Sometimes, if something is small, I'll go back and change something immediately. If it's a little bigger, I tend to wait to revise it.

Now Part One is in beta reading stages. What I do is I read over the comments the reader left me and think critically about each of them. What I'm doing right, what I need to work on. I take every comment seriously whenever they make a suggestion or criticism. Their word is not gospel, but their insight is important. I decide if I like their input, then implement it. Most of the time I do listen, at least partially, because a second opinion is always helpful.

And uh, get a keyboard. bluetooth is fine for a while and better for someone trying to start this kind of project on a phone or a tablet. If someone is sticking to typing games for a few weeks or several, it might be worth considering getting a corded keyboard -- Anyone who is topping over 45wpm and heading for 60+ will find that bluetooth keyboards may not keep up with that leveled up meat input. (I can type around 90wpm or so when I'm on a roll and get frustrated pretty quickly.) Most Importantly: SAVE YOUR PROGRESS (u matter), & Look It Up before you Give It Up.

another thought about "gen z and gen alpha don't know how to use computers, just phone apps" is that this is intentionally the direction tech companies have pushed things in, they don't want users to understand anything about the underlying system, they want you to just buy a subscription to a thing and if it doesn't do what you need it to, you just upgrade to the more expensive one. users who look at configuration files are their worst nightmare

As I get closer and closer to actually being able to post my WIP on AO3 I have to figure out the hardest part of fic writing... the tags 😓 idk if it's just me but I've always struggled to figure out proper tagging etiquette on that site. Maybe y'all can help me?

I think I've decided to rate it 'Mature' mainly for the frequent suicidal ideation/attempts (though I honestly think a level-minded teen could handle that topic just fine). That will definitely make it into the main tags too, it's a whole character arc and themetically relevant part of the story that is nevertheless dark and good to warn readers of.

Where I tend to get stuck is the smaller instances of potentially triggering things. For example, Aston hits his son once (1) in chapter 3, then that never happens again for the remaining 25 chapters. Should I still add "domestic child abuse" to the main tags, or is it enough to put a warning in the author's notes of the relevant chapter (with specfics on where it begins and ends in the paragraphs, like how some YouTubers mention timestamps in their videos so viewers can skip certain topics)?

I personally would prefer the latter so I can avoid just the upsetting part and enjoy the rest of the story. To use myself as an example, I am easily squicked by vomiting. If I see a fic tagged with vomiting I will most likely not read it because I assume if they tagged it it must be relevant enough to be noted, but I actually can handle it being mentioned once as long as there aren't any graphic details. In fact I can think of a specific fic I enjoyed that did NOT tag for vomiting and only mentioned it briefly so all I did was wince a little and move on. If it had been in the main tags, I never would have read it.

I guess my confusion boils down to whether the tags of a fic are meant to convey EVERYTHING in a fic or just the most relevant aspects. I've heard tagging compared to a nutritional label before, but unlike those I feel like AO3's current system just doesn't allow you to convey the ratio of its contents well; to me, a 500 word fic that mentions a squick is worse than a 50,000 word fic where that same squick can be easily drowned out by other non-triggering events. I'm just worried that tagging my fic with "child abuse" will make it sound like it's ABOUT child abuse when that's only a very small part of it, like calling a cupcake salty just for containing salt. But I suppose for someone allergic to salt it might be better to be told that immediately, instead of in a missable author's note.

And this isn't even getting into some of my other confusions around AO3, like knowing the exact popular phrase to describe a trope--- I recently posted a fic in which the type of love the protagonist is feeling is left to interpretation, with room for platonic or romantic readings. I'm certain there's a term for that in fan fic (I definitely toggled the "other" button under relationships), but my inputted tag "ambiguous love" didn't seem to be a thing, only "ambiguous relationship" which is NOT what I had in mind--- the relationship dynamic is established (at least to the characters), it's just the internal feelings of one character that are loosely defined on purpose. But I suppose this one's up to the tag wranglers, though I wonder sometimes how accurately they can assign intended meanings to the tags without reading the fics for context.

And I have plenty of other questions too, most but not all relating to my particular fic: Does a chapter set partially inside the Rockgagong count as vore? (it's a little more graphic than canon but that's a very low bar and I'd hardly say it's intentional). Is it okay to tag things that haven't happened yet in the chapters I will be posting first, or will that confuse readers who are expecting those tropes to appear already because they have been tagged? (I'm worried I'll forget to update the tags once the relevant chapters are posted). If a relevant trope would be considering a spoiler is it okay to not tag it at all? (my instinct would be to still tag it, especially if it's something potentially triggering, but I also personally would rather not know so I could maintain my emersion instead of waiting for the thing to happen). Feel free to weigh in on this, friends, as you can see I'm generally clueless and prone to overthinking 😅

Kipling's racism aside, I adore The Jungle Book and if I don't feel like explaining to you why Kaa is the fucking boss and disney sucks, I usually say Bagheera is my favorite character. Also when I first got into AO3/tumblr I was really into Avengers and Black Panther is my favorite/the literal fucking best avenger, so it was fandom adjacent at the time.

Bug's RWBY Worldbuilding Series 1

Hey, look, something nobody asked me to do! I'm about to start a multi-part post on my AU-but-theoretically-at-least-decently-applicable-to-canon idea of Aura/Semblances/Dust/Magic, in that order, in a system that should help unify and streamline them while still making there be an actual difference in what Magic is. I will also repeat myself sometimes in later posts, just so that each post can still be understood on its own without going to every link I'll add as I update this series The tag will be #Bug's RWBY Worldbuilding Series Without Further Ado, Part 1: Aura <- You are here. Part 1-B: Active Aura

Aura is a form of energy produced by all living things, and can diffuse into the atmosphere and surroundings as a wave/particle (it is both, much like photons). Passive Aura is the main thing produced, being akin to "infrared". The exact intensity and frequency of its production also directly coincides with an organism's physical and emotional state. So, when Grimm "sense" negative emotions, this is actually *what* they sense. The specific pattern of Aura produced by a person in distress. Active Aura would be "ultraviolet" in comparison, giving it new properties and abilities thanks to having much more energy to work with. (more on that later!) For now, we're focusing on the broader role and importance of Aura in Remnant, rather than the more specific combat-related things. That comes in my next installment. The Aura passively produced when you experience negative emotion is also what Grimm "eat", meaning that Grimm do not actually have any need to kill humans, however, the act of terrorizing and then killing humans allows them to become stronger at an accelerated rate. The traumatic death of a person produces massive blooms of the "negative" Aura they feed upon. Therefore, it unfortunately serves as their kind's most lucrative feeding strategy, even *with* the energy and risk that must first be invested into hunting and killing prey. Aura particles linger after they are produced, and reach a point where they "cool" (lose energy) to a sort of "ambient" energy level rather than losing all of it, leading to a "background" Aura field that surrounds and permeates the entirety of Remnant. However, the Aura does not simply diffuse itself calmly and evenly throughout Remnant, and then lie still and passive. Aura forms myriad invisible currents, vortices, jetstreams, and eddies throughout the world, much like air or water, although Aura also can and does phase through solid obstacles as it flows. In ways that are not yet well understood, this also has a profound impact on Remnant's ecosystem. Areas where Aura currents converge, or where dense currents flow, can often seem richer than others. This leads to phenomena such as how certain settlements can exist with little physical protection: For instance, by developing the means to discern areas that are within fast-flowing "rivers" of Aura, one can create settlements and trade routes in which negative emotion is typically "washed downstream" faster than it attracts Grimm. Even though Grimm can and do follow the Aura "upriver", especially if negativity gets truly out of hand, they will typically be distracted by the "runoff". Strong vortices and gyres of Aura can also accumulate a dense enough concentration of energy to allow for a very steady "low-level" activation of Dust deposits without any living creature's direct input, allowing for locations like Lake Matsu's floating islands to exist. Dust itself also attracts low-energy Aura, while higher-energy Aura becomes increasingly resistant to its pull. As such, it is not only affected by Aura currents, but the global actions of Dust across the world, all "pulling" unevenly on the background Aura field, contributes heavily to the formation and distribution of currents.

Such a phenomenon can be used as a simple and low-tech way to locate "rivers" as well: If a Dust crystal, especially one held at a considerable distance from anyone's person (such as up upon a flag or banner, for instance), begins to take on a slight glow by itself, and/or starts to weakly exhibit its inherent elemental property on its own, it's a clear sign that you are within a strong Aura current. More advanced applications allow for people to place specially-prepared Dust crystals in machinery and electronics and have the tiny, subtle fluctuations in the Dust's output be read carefully enough to be useful for myriad purposes, measuring and visualizing what might otherwise be almost entirely opaque to human senses. However, human activity and Dust industry can and does alter Aura currents, and sometimes disrupt even those currents which were thought to be too large and stable to *be* disruptable. This can be harmful, as was the case for the Great Vacuan Gyre, whose dissolution greatly worsened and accelerated the region's environmental degradation through an incredibly complex string of unforeseen chain reactions. Little could be done, as little was understood about just how important the invisible Aura currents can truly be to the environment. However, it can also be harnessed in intentional ways. Aura "dams" and Aura "diverters" can be built to increase security, although they do not outwardly look like the kinds of "dams" you may be used to at all, as Aura is not "dammed" by creating physical barriers. By extension, background Aura can also be used to generate power. This is almost always done by using Dust as the middleman, however, which also means the Dust will eventually be expended. Dust industries across Remnant are, of course, keenly against efforts to develop a way to harness atmospheric Aura without a Dust-based intermediate. Also, note that I haven't even gotten into explaining *active* Aura yet. That'll be next.

How much does Zurg take Eclips's ideas into consideration? Like if she wanted to add something to the palace or a planet he's conquered (massage place, dodgeball court, ancient torture device museum, etc) what would she choose and would he make it happen?

Zurg is generally receptive to any changes Eclips would want to make, within reason. Her suggestions can vary depending on her mood, as well. Sometimes it's something subtle to help make work easier for the local population that's being conquered. Sometimes she just makes silly changes because she thinks it'd be hilarious, which usually leads to her and Zurg having a good laugh over it. Usually though, when successfully taking over a planet, Zurg has Eclips tag along and they treat it like an evil house renovation. The most prominent example of this would be like in the episode Stranger Invasion, when the Brainpod is telling Zurg about the benefits of having the planet and what things they could add to it and Zurg goes "I'll take it!"

It's like that, but now Eclips is there and nodding along and giving some input. One of my screenshot edits is even this idea in action! (Shown here)

[INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT UNDER THE CUT!]

Q1 . Tell us about the story you made for the Jam!

Chloe is Home is about a seemingly harmless interaction that could potentially lead to a very dangerous and unpredictable result. A group chat between four flatmates (Meghane, Sam, Kayleigh and Yourself) are expecting Meghane's cousin, Chloe, to be added to the group chat as she's on her way to spend the weekend with them. But Meghane accidentally adds the wrong number, and you're left alone to interact with Chloe unsure of whether or not there's an actual threat looming.

Q2. What was the biggest challenge in creating a game in such a short time span? How did you manage it?

I think the biggest challenge for me was to not only try to make everything flow smoothly between player choices, but to also make Chloe sit right between creepy and overly friendly.

Adding to that, keeping up with alll the changes I had to make! Gosh, that was mind boggling. Especially since I unfortunately left it all to almost the last second. At some point I got a bit lazy, but that was the tricky part. Game flow, and the touch of creep-factor in Chloe's interactions with the player.

Q3. What was your inspiration for your entry?

Long story short, it started off with a mindmap with 'cliffhanger' smack dab in the middle. Other ideas included:

- A guy called Cliff who gets turned into a hanger.

- Chatting with a person from the past/future on a computer.

- 'This chat room could literally kill you' (A Mr. Ballen video on Youtube, but a reversed POV).

* Fraternity/sorority chat room.

I liked the chat room idea, so I stuck with it. I was intrigued by the experience of being in a chat room and talking with someone who isn't who you think they are, and the different roads that could lead you down.

Regarding Chloe's character and behaviourisms, my partner suggested the movie Creep, which was really great. It perfectly balanced that bizarre-friendliness that I wanted to capture for Chloe.

(If you do decide to look at my inspo/references, be warned, they're a bit shocking)

Q4. Is this your first time working on a game like this? What do you like (or not like) about working in this format?

I've done CYOA before. Not many, probably only like 2-3 others before. I've always loved CYOA, especially those Goosebumps books as a kid? I loved finding different ways to die!

It's such an intricate and detailed format that requires a lot of planning, and that's the part that overwhelms me, but honestly, I think with practice I'll eventually get the hang of it. It's just that sometimes if the scope gets too big, and you have all these tiny little details sprinkled in between, it's really daunting and tedious to have to go through everything to make sure it all lines up smoothly.

Q5. What is your favorite part about your entry? What have you enjoyed most doing during the Jam?

I really enjoyed working with Brushmen, he was so insightful and really patient. It was really great having an extra set of eyes and he had the technical skills that I don't posses. So everytime we'd touch base and he'd input the text it was so exciting to see it all slowly come to life!

But overall favourite part of the entry is the knocks at the end. Silly, I know. It's just the one thing that gets you, cause the whole game is silent. Then suddenly, knock knock knock.

Hehe.

Q6. What is your advice for sprint projects like this one?

Don't stress. Take it easy and be ready to ADAPT. Especially if you're collaborating with others, sometimes you'll have to let your ideas go to make space for time, and even sometimes, better ideas. Trust me, we don't always know all the answers, and that's great! Stay open, stay curious and flexible. Communicate like never before and just have fun with it!

Q7. Do you have any other works you’d like to promote?

This was my first game jam ever, but I do have a few other projects that I've worked on. I guess I'll link my website here? I'm not very good with self-promo... I'm still learning, and tyring out new things. Process, process, process.

honestly, i think this fandom has a problem with over sexualizing the members. i've been into kpop for close to a decade and many groups over time and i have never seen it this bad. its kind of shocking looking through tags for the hyung line because people use them to project fantasies that are extremely triggering and sensitive, way beyond usual smut. and the amount of people who only have interest in members sexually and come here just to express really inappropriate thoughts. it's strange how comfortable people are with that, when it is the definition of sexualizing. anyway, it falls in line with your sfw works not getting enough engagement. it's something i've noticed myself as a writer and enjoyer of such works. but i'll support you if you stay and add more to the softer side!! i appreciate it! don't forget to write for your enjoyment too <3

That being said I’ve seen so many things on this app about heeseung that just make me so uncomfortable as you can see the smut I write is never anything really crazy except the perv concept but honestly when I wrote creep I was just testing something

Sometimes when I write I almost want to create my own characters instead of it being heeseung cause for me personally I find it a little weird just to write any story and use him as the character for the story but all that is for a different day lol

I know this is going to sound really hypocritical cause I write smut too and have said some questionable things but it was almost more in a joking manner however I do find heeseung attractive sexually and I had my fair share of unholy thoughts about him but nothing like some of the stuff I’ve been reading/seeing I don’t even read smut anymore unless it’s from a few select writers cause as I said it’s starting to make me feel uncomfortable at this point

I’ve been a fan of kpop for more than a decade and I understand you fully I guess shit just gets worse with time but this is outrageous it seems like it’s just all about sexualizing the members at this point and forget fic writing in general just think about them as humans and have some type of respect for them and yourself
