Been considering tinkering with some kind of herp for breeding, since my health is making birds harder to do (birds live outside in aviaries, which means feeding/watering/egg gathering at least 2x a day + big cleans). But I've run into ISSUES. 1. no diet of only/primarily rodents. I'm not interested in anything that eats rats, and I don't really want to raise mice (or rats for that matter). African soft furs are illegal in the state I live in unfortunately.
2. no fruit flies I hate them LOL. any other bug is fine, just not those. 3. no balls, cresties, beardies or leos - there are too many already 4. must have at least some demand, can't be so completely niche I never sell the offspring
5. prefer only CB animals
6. must be able to tolerate up to 85F in the summer I originally looked at dart frogs because bioactive stuff looks fun but they're not tolerant of heat at all. Now looking at microgeckos instead. Also considering garters, gargoyle geckos and smaller skinks (zebra, fire, great plains).

the tank i have for the shrimp comes with a built-in filter, bubbler, and light that doesn't seem like it can be separated from one another to function since they all plug into the same chunk bit... this tank also has a history of killing fish WAY larger than my shrimp with this filter just as it is... so... im wondering if i can fashion a false bottom for the filter but the tradeoff is maintaining it is going to be way harder this way if not impossible... ugh....

Also pretty sure the actual dosage in any given pill of my Adderall recently fluctuates like crazy maybe due to the manufacturing/supply shortage because some days it feels totally normal but other days it's like there was hardly anything in there

isopods aren’t the only peracaridans (marsupial crustaceans) to have come on land: amphipods have also successfully ventured out of the water! while many terrestrial amphipods are beach-dwellers, others have cut ties with the ocean entirely and live in humid leaf litter, particularly in the tropics.
these are talitrid amphipods that I collected accidentally in Florida a few years ago. I’ve cultured them in the same habitat I found them in, wet leaf litter above sandy soil.
Tumblr media
rather than the dorsoventral flattening of isopods, amphipods are laterally flattened. this species actually struggles to stand; although they run upright, they tend to flop over on their sides at rest. this isn’t a huge issue for them, though, since they can launch themselves into the air with their spring-loaded tail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
larger species of land amphipods are called “lawn shrimp,” which has always been one of my favorite names. these are more of flowerpot shrimp though

Okay I’ve never asked on tumblr but I just found your page and I’m OBSESSED!!! I want to get/make a Vivarium/bioterrarium for millipedes and isopods and I can’t WAIT!! Please please if you have any advice at all, I’d love to hear it! Where to get supplies, the buggies themselves, how to handle them, what do you do if they get sick, how much space to they need for how many there are, etc? Your buggy babies are so cute!!
First off thank you! I love all my little guys as well <3
I ramble kinda a lot so I'll put this under a read more.
For advice I'm still very much a novice when it comes to keeping but I'll tell you what I can!
For tanks I got my glass ones second hand or ones made my the store I buy used to buy my millipedes from, you'd be surprised how cheap you can get a nice big one! For Acrylic THESE are the ones I've had the best luck with not warping BUT they sometimes have kinda blurry parts on the plastic, but still I'd say good for the price if you can't afford glass. I tape up some of the ventilation holes to keep more moisture in.
For soil that ISN'T bought from a specialist stores(Sometimes I can't afford it) I use Peat free compost, paired with leaves and rot wood I buy off ebay stores that sell bug/reptile products, I mix them together with some water and leave them in a tub for 1 week to soften up the leaves. Some people go out and get their own leaves and wood but I'm not really in an area to do that so I can't give advice on that. It's important to keep it moist BUT NOT WET!
Heat mat! You want one to put on the SIDE of the tank and not under it, just one would be enough. I have a timer plug for mine so they're on a few hours a day on and off all day. If you REALLY wanna spoil them then I've seen a few people use reptile headlamps.
For moss and plants I again just buy it off ebay in sheets and give it a cheap over to make sure there are no hitchhikers on it before I put it in the tank. It needs watered and looked after for a while for it to take to the tank. Carpet moss is mostly for looks while sphagnum moss is used to keep moisture in areas and should be water/sprayed often. I have a little fern plant in my tank rn they seem to leave alone. I know a lot of people use fake plants as well for decor!
You should make a point to put a little temp and humidity monitor in your set-ups as well. The special reptile ones can be expensive so I just but the little ones you put in rooms and have had no issues with them.
Don't forget to give them hides! Cork wood/bark or coconut shells are nice and cheap. You can also use man made items just make sure they can handle the moisture and aren't made of anything toxic to your new friends. Also give them little sticks and things to climb up on. Just make sure the lid is secured so they can't escape.
For food I just use kitchen scraps like carrot peel, cucumber, apples and melon, give them a cuttlefish bone and some dried tiny shrimps in small amounts once a week or so, but you can also use fish flacks instead. But remember! Leaf litter and rot wood is meant to be their main diet for most species.
For the millipedes I would recommend Ivory millipedes as a good starter one, they're lovely in colour and are often up top, hardy as well, and usually you can get them captive bred which I've had much higher survival rates with vs wild caught. For each species you'll have to look up their needs yourself though, there isn't a 100% catch all set up for all species. Woodlice/isopods I'd suggest dairy cows as they're lovely and also very easy to get a hold of. I will say species of Armadillidium(roly poly/pill bugs) are my fave and I'm very biased and want 500 of them.
For handling just be gentle! I wear gloves in a lot of my videos but that because I've incredibly sensitive skin and can't stand soil under my nails. The worse they can do to you is them staining your skin(not all species), or give you a little nibble. Make sure if you're handling to wash your hands off BUT be careful what hand soaps you use! Wash hands after as well some can be toxic to bugs from what I've heard.
For tank size hmm that's hard, usually you want soil as deep as their body but that can be hard, 10-15cm is what I aim for my BIG boys and 7-10cm for my others, deeper is better but sometimes you'll also just never see them again! You'll want a tank at least a few times longer than your pets body or at least big enough for them to filly stretch out in if you get really big millipedes like giants and a 120cm tank is just kinda unrealistic haha.
I do not have a lot of advice for if they get sick sadly, it's kinda of hard to tell honestly and usually when you can it's too late. I would just say don't beat yourself up too much if some pass away sometimes bugs just do that especially if you don't know their history.
Where to get them depends on where you're from and what you want. A ton of reptile/specialist stores will have wild caught which isn't great but they will have the largest range of species and usually also sell all the stuff you need to tank care of them. Ebay is where I've gotten most of my captive bred and I just message people if I've questions about their bugs there.
I think that's everything I can think of,
Again I'm a big novice when it comes to bugs, @onenicebugperday and @crevicedwelling likely know way more than me, though idk if they're open to questions but they likely already have a lot of info on their blogs.

The owner of the living defense is Crab Dorippe.
Dorippe crabs are considered to be relatively ancient (“primitive”) crabs and belong to the family Dromidae. The Dorippe crab is most commonly found in the Caribbean and surrounding areas of the Pacific Ocean, particularly near the Panama Canal. It lives at depths from 1 to 15 m, usually on muddy or muddy-sandy soil. It feeds on various invertebrates, half-decomposed remains of plants, fish and other animals.
The body size of the Dorippe crab is up to 5 cm. The first two pairs of walking legs are well developed and are used for movement. The hind legs of Dorippe have become thinner and curled up with evolution, specifically in order to quickly throw anything that comes across onto its back. For this habit he was nicknamed the ragpicker. You won’t see anything on it - crabs carry the jellyfish Cassiopeia (and very often ride on this jellyfish - the offspring of these crabs - at a very late stage of the larvae (megalope). You can also see Dorippe with sea urchins on its shell. It happens that these crabs protect themselves with mollusk shells, which they use as shields. In a moment of danger, the dorippe crab exposes its back to the enemy so that the enemy is distracted by the dummy and gives time to quickly leave the battlefield.

What’s one food/drink in your world that sounds amazing
Do they have any musical instruments, if so is it based off of any really world stuff?
Tahen cultures have all sorts of taboo around fire. This is taken to an extreme in Ranai, where open fires are completely forbidden and one must own a special permit to tend a cooking fire. As a result, Ranai cuisine is renowned for it's wealth of raw, pickled, and otherwise marinated foods. Bcause Ranai's territory is an archipelago where fish and seafood is the main source of protein, makwa, acid-cooked fish akin to our world's ceviche, is a staple. Real-life ceviche being delicious, it is only logical that fictional ceviche would also be*.
Tumblr media
Bird-fish makwa is an ancient traditional meal of the archipelago. It has three main ingredients: gruel of uciwici, an oat-like, distinctively purple grain rich in anthocyanins, dried and salted kelp, and shrimp and crustacean meat marinated in sumac vinegar. Eggs, herbs, and tart fruits are sometimes added as toppings. Bird-fish makwa most salient tastes are tartness from the sumac vinegar with salt and umami from the seafood and kelp, on a base note of mild and nutty sweetness reminiscient of brown rice from the mashed uciwici. The name of this recipe is a mistranslation of the meal's name from Wetki to Ranaite Tahen.
Jimeleu makwa is a classic ceviche which puportedly originates from the town of Jimeleu, where the soils and climate are conducive to the growth of citrus trees. Jimeleu ceviche consists of diced white fish acid-cooked in lime juice with horseradish, white beans, and cold-cooked uciwici grains. The marinade is usually clear, with a green tinge from the lime and horseradish. Common variants add cold fish broth or cream of green peas to water the ceviche into a soup. Jimeleu makwa is sour and spicy, and variants with cream of green peas have a distinctive sweetness.
Cici-Uli makwa is reminiscient of tataki or carpaccio. A large, white-meat fish is cut into filets which are marinated in a mixture of sumac vinegar, oil, and seasonings (including, but not limited to, salt, horseradish, and tart fruits akin to pincherries). The marinated filet is then cut into very thin slices and served with crunchy seeds and sliced sweet onion. Only the external edge of the fish has cooked: the main flavor of Cici-Uli makwa is that of the raw fish itself. This type of makwa requires very fresh fish.
*Note that I have not tried to make these The Most Palatable Possible - especially the first one!
---
The answer to the second question is a bit less interesting. In short: yes, they do have music instruments! However, I am profoundly not musically inclined and this (as well as sports) is a thing where I show my biases as an individual: I have done roughly 0 musical worldbuilding, and it is unlikely that I will ever do more than the bare minimum (when I remember that the world should, to feel alive, have some music). About Ranaites, I can say that they have a variety of instruments, especially winds and percussions. Bamboo is an important material for their woodwinds and percussion instruments. A large shell is used as a traditional wind instrument. I imagine they have some sort of relatively simple string instrument, and a slightly more complex one with better acoustic imported by members of the Oumdashen diaspora. Ranaites have inherited a taste for passive music such as windchimes from the archipelago's original inhabitants, the Wetki. Shell windchimes are a popular fixture of gardens throughout the archipelago.

Let's Talk About: Fantasy High Junior Year and Cursed Out
Tumblr media
This whole episode had so much going on that I'm physically exhausted. Or that could be because I'm also very sick right now--but that doesn't change the fact that A LOT happened this episode. And there was A LOT of emotions. Especially with the whopper of a teaser for next week's episode.
What we didn't get a lot of though is plot movement. But that's okay too. We inched our way there, but we got a lot of great character moments in exchange.
I love Siobhan's glee at Aelwynn being an inside man of sorts in whatever it is Copperkettle is really doing. And the constant close ups to her fist thumping on the table was hilarious to me.
Murph plays stress so well--and I was beside myself laughing at how the others were reacting. (See image above.) And whatever Murph's got going with the stress is Lou with Fabian's awkwardness. So good!
And Ally managed to make Brennan do a spit-take! So four people have now been broken at the table: Murph's tactical yorbies, Emily and the platter of shrimp, Zac and the Vulture King, and now Brennan with Ally's "keep my name out of YOUR mouth." Who's next?
Why does Emily have so much fiendish aura?! Okay, we know why, but why?!
The incident at the mall feels like ages ago, which it is in a way, but wow. The down time mechanic Brennan introduced this season really sells the passage of time REALLY well.
What's also being utilized really well is the stress token mechanic. I just really dislike how much fun Brennan is having with it. And how much he wants the players to take a rage token.
Okay, maybe not dislike. I am definitely scared though.
Lastly: although I did say that we didn't get a lot of plot movement--I do feel like Brennan planted a lot of seeds in the soil this episode. And Quincy blowing up at the end? Definitely the start of something.

Eliseo Barnett begins the short trip from the little town of Punta Cheuca to the vast Isla de Tiburon -- the largest island in the Gulf of California and part of the Indigenous Comcaac territory. [...] Erika Barnett [...] watches dozens of herons, seagulls and small coastal birds bask in the shallow waters [...]. Beyond them stretches a dense mass of green leaves -- part of a huge mangrove estuary on Tiburon Island. It’s one of about a dozen interconnected stands in the Infiernillo Channel. A narrow stretch of ocean between the island and the Sonoran coast, entirely within Comcaac territory, the channel is known for its biodiversity and abundant seagrass meadows and is a protected wetland area.
Mangroves cover some 960 hectares — or nearly 2,400 acres — of the channel.
“It’s like a kindergarten,” Barnett said.
A local conservation leader, she compared the mangrove forest to a nursery, providing a protected habitat for important marine species like crabs, shrimp and fish, as well as birds and sea turtles. [...]
It all starts with collecting mangrove propagules — the long, slender green and brown stalks that grow from mangrove flowers — from the estuaries and beaches in the Infiernillo Channel. Walking along the beach on Tiburon Island, Erkia Barnett occasionally stoops down to pick up a stray mangrove propagule. She collects the ones that wash ashore. [...] “It occurred to us to pick them up and keep them” until they sprouted roots, she said. After propagating the plants, her family took them to the El Paraiso estuary nearby.
The conservation team’s current project is much the same — collecting, propagating and reforesting the plants — but on a larger scale. This year, they collected more than 6,000 plants from the channel. [...]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Climate change is one of the biggest factors impacting the mangrove forests,” Barnett said. Increased heat, drought and rising sea levels are all taking a toll on the plants.
“It is the extreme of extremes, my goodness,” said ecologist Laura Smith Monti, with the Arizona-based Borderlands Restoration Network and The University of Arizona. “The mangroves stands in the Infiernillo Channel are the northernmost mangroves that occur on the West coast for sure.” [...]
And so far, the stands in the Infiernillo Channel are relatively healthy, likely because the protection afforded by the Comcaac community, Monti said. [...] The Comcaac have relied on these mangroves for thousands of years — using them as a source of food, medicine and building materials. [...] This year, after the plants grow large enough in the water-filled Coke bottles, they will be transplanted into soil for another six months or so — a new technique Barnett learned from one of the few other mangrove conservation teams in the region. [...] “It’s something relatively new,” said Milka Valenzuela, who has been running the mangrove reforestation project at the El Soldado estuary near the beach town of San Carlos since 2017. [...]
“I want to continue so that my children and my nieces and nephew might want to follow my example and continue taking care of the mangrove and the environment here in our territory,” [Barnett] said. “Because this ecosystem is important now just for our people, but for the world.”

Fun facts about pill bugs?
(For the people who don’t like insects, there’s an image of a pill bug)
Tumblr media
You see, pill bugs actually aren’t insect. They’re in the same family as shrimps, crabs and lobsters.
They are soil dwelling crustaceans (crustaceans is the scientific name of the group pill bugs are in. With the shrimps, crabs and lobsters. Of course there are also other ‘animals’ in there but I won’t be naming all of them)
Pill bugs actually don’t breathe through their mouth, they’re breathe through gills. These gills are located at the underside of the ‘bug’.
Also, if it’s humid, pill bugs can absorb moisture from the air to stay hydrated.
You can also tell the sex of a pill bug by looking at the underside
Tumblr media
And that was all for now. (I now absolutely love pill bugs omg)

Ok so regarding the stranger things extended universe, i definitely want to know more about nancy and her storyline, like does this become her career ? investigating government conspiracies? And how does she feel about it? About not living a more peaceful life after everything?
After something like Hawkins, there are three ways to go if you want to keep sane, Nancy thinks. Or, well. As sane as any of them are, now.
Some of them went out into the world ready to grab life and joy with both hands and all their teeth, the memory of how close death came to devouring them enough to spur them on to devour life right back. (Eddie's playing Boston next week, wants to know if she'll go to his show; Max and El, last Nancy heard, are learning to surf.) Some of them went out into the world still full of combat reflexes they didn't mean to keep and tripped into a new fight, a slower quieter more mundane one. (She saw the photos Jonathan took last time he visited Steve and Robin in Chicago, the protests last month, the signs, the flags.) And some of them...well. Some of them left the lessons of Hawkins a little less behind than that.
They won in Hawkins, inasmuch as burned-out buildings and the town memorials and the deep scars cutting through a still-damaged downtown count as winning. That battle's fought and won and done. But Nancy hasn't forgotten who started it, and it wasn't Henry Creel.
(She'll argue with Dustin about it, over a mountain of fried shrimp and a pitcher of beer he's somehow old enough to legally buy, because Dustin's always cared more about the how than the why. He thinks the important lesson of Hawkins is that the laws of physics known by everybody across the global scientific community are wrong. They spend an hour and a half going back and forth about Oppenheimer and Eisenhower, Regan and Brezhnev and Martin Brenner, because one of the only differences between Vecna and a nuclear bomb is still the fact that nobody thinks Vecna could exist, but Dustin is wrong about why that's important.)
Science can do a thousand things nobody thinks it can do. Science can split an atom. Science can split dimensions. It doesn't matter why it's possible; it doesn't even really matter what's possible, beyond the fact that massive governments with thousands of soldiers and billions of dollars can always kill when they want to. Whether it's a bomb or a child experiment or a gas leak.
What matters, every time, is that people are dead. What matters is that the public needs to know.
Nancy makes her name in college breaking a story about illegal sewage dumping near a residential neighborhood before the Boston Globe even has it. She gets a professor fired for plagiarism. She almost gets expelled for libel when she tries to run a story about date rape on campus. (She almost gets caught slashing tires, after that one, but she learned from the best. Erica Sinclair taught her plenty about stealth, and Murray's been trying to drive in the idea of patience since the first time they met.)
It's not about monsters, it was never about monsters. There aren't any more monsters, Nancy thinks. (She keeps a licensed handgun in a shoebox in her apartment, because she ran out of ammo for the Makarov years ago, because monsters aren't the only things that like to threaten too-curious reporters in the middle of the night, and because you never know.) It's always been about the people the monsters destroy.
Nobody will ever believe the story of what destroyed Hawkins, probably. (Maybe someday they'll declassify. Nancy has a four-hundred-page memoir under lock and key in the safe where she doesn't store her gun, if the world ever gets there. Maybe she'll just pass it down to Mike's grandchildren.) But people know now that it was Hawkins National Lab. That some kind of government weapons research, right there on Indiana soil, broke a small town in half. That's something.
Nancy graduates college and interns anywhere she can get a foot in the door. The Globe. The Times. The Washington Post. The Post, finally, sticks. There's an editor there who loves to give new reporters just enough slack in their leashes to hang themselves with, so they can fill the back of the paper with issue-selling scandal and then have somebody to fire if the wrong person in power gets upset. Nancy does three months of research, jotting off puff pieces and human interest stories about charity work and bills with no opposition, quietly filling up file folders of photos and receipts and evidence that nobody can prove she didn't obtain legally. Her first headline runs on a Tuesday morning and gets a White House senior staffer fired by Thursday afternoon.
It could have gotten her clearing out her desk by the end of Friday, but Nancy was careful. Nancy was smart. It chafes from the inside out, like a blister on her soul, but she knows all about water it down. She could've implicated a dozen elected officials in this, and ten of them would have skated right by with no trouble, just plenty of cause to make Nancy trouble right back. (There are already people in Washington who know her name. Nancy knows there are files about her in the Pentagon.) So she's careful, she's delicate, and she implies nothing at all about anybody she can't demolish outright. She waters it down. It gets her a promotion.
.
Nancy doesn't drink icewater vodka, herself. She likes whiskey instead, in her coffee, in her tea. She talks on the phone with Murray Bauman at only the most irregular intervals, and he sneers at her in a way that Nancy's pretty sure translates, on Murray's tongue, to a colleague's respect. She tries not to lie. She's better at it, nowadays.
Nancy is hungry, has always been hungry. Has always been starving, one way or another, all the way back when she was twelve years old thirsting for adventure in the basement with her little brother, fifteen and ravenous for a challenge, an experience, the chance to grow up. She's choked on what she thought she wanted enough times that you'd think she'd learn by now. Mostly what it's done is toughen her teeth and teach her to chew.
She wants truth, and she can have it for herself, if she's good enough. If she doesn't try to force-feed it to the rest of the world too hard. She wants respect, she wants justice, she's selfish and selfless and hungry for all of it.
She wants to not be so afraid. She wants to not be so alone. She wants, sometimes, just once in a while, to be a little bit quiet and a little bit soft and rest.
It didn't work with Jonathan the same way it didn't work with Steve, or Liam, or Casey, or Diane. Nancy aches to be a little less alone, but she doesn't starve for it. Never once in her life has she been hungry for a person the way she's hungry for everything else. Never once in her life has she actually fallen in love back.
But Jonathan is at her front door again, because Jonathan is a yo-yo to all the people he's ever loved: backing off to give them time and space to grow, rocketing off into the world alone just for a little while, just as long as he can bear it, and then slinging himself back. Back to her again, this time.
Jonathan knows the score. Knows she loves him as much as she's ever loved anybody, other than Barb and Mike and her mother and Holly. And if it's not hunger -- if the closest Nancy has ever gotten to hunger for another person tends to happen in that oh-so-very, very discreet bar where Nancy can wear a perfectly-tailored suit and buy whiskey sours for girls in short skirts with no nightmares behind their eyes -- well, Nancy's never wanted most of them past the next morning anyway.
So sometimes Jonathan is on her couch and sometimes he's in her bed, and sometimes they fuck and sometimes all they do is sleep. When she needs a photojournalist, he's never once let her down. When she has nightmares, she wakes up just as terrified, but it's so much easier to pull herself together with someone to pull it together for. And Nancy Wheeler has never been in love, will never be in love, but she doesn't know what it could possibly have to offer that she could want more than that.
.
Does Nancy like her life? Wrong question. Stupid question. Better to ask if Nancy would have it any other way -- and well, yeah, she'd have a president who didn't sexually harass interns, a national defense budget that wasn't ten times the size of the department of education's, and a coffeemaker in the office that didn't get grounds in everything. She'd live in a world that didn't need her, find a new thing to be hungry about. Maybe she and Barb would both be on track for tenure by now.
In this world, she has half a dozen Pulitzer nominations and a Polk Award on her bookshelf. She has a locked filing cabinet full of other people's secrets and a locked safe full of her own. There's a file with her name on it somewhere in the Pentagon, although she hasn't managed to sneak in to read it yet. She's pretty sure the files on her desk about Pentagon staff are thicker.

A carapaceon that evokes mantis shrimps, massive lobsters, and the notion of hydrothermal environments - METAMOR-DECA Title - Hyperthermal crab Monster class - Carapaceon Known locales - Locales rich in magma/lava upwellings, occasional forays to mountainous environments Element/Ailment - Soiled + Dragon + Fire Elemental weakness - Ice (3), Water (3), Dragon (2), Thunder (0), Fire (0) Ailment weakness - Paralysis (3), Sleep (3), Poison (1), Stun (0), Blast (0) Metamor-Deca is a carapaceon known to inhabit environments where magma upwellings are prominent, though occasionally venturing to mountainous terrain. Recognised by its burly frame, with enormous chelipeds modified into club-like structures and a flexible abdomen that swings a cudgel-like end, Metamor-Deca coats its shell in volcanic material. The reinforced carapace and sturdy limbs enable excellent defensive integrity, with its head defended by spear-like antennae and its second and fifth pair of limbs adjusted for delicate handling. Predominantly a herbivore, feeding on the few plant and lichen species able to survive close to lava flows, Metamor-Deca is also known to be an effective lithophage, easily ingesting many inorganic materials. They tend to gravitate to rich mineral upwellings, where they may also harvest rock and gems to affix to their reddish-black shells and bolster their defences. Because of their defensive integrity, Metamor-Deca is rarely bothered by other creatures, and it is perfectly tolerant of humans in close proximity. However, any motion towards its current favoured food supply can be interpreted as thievery, goading the carapaceon to lash out. Researchers must pay close attention to their surroundings when observing Metamor-Deca and remain very still if they feel it is agitated. As expected, Metamor-Deca relies on its hard shell to fend off the few monsters that would dare attack it. Waste products from its plant diet accumulate in pores below its carapace and can be released as a noxious gas, augmented by ashen materials affixed to its rocky coating. But if the enemy persists, Metamor-Deca will charge its limbs with dragon energy and lash out with the blunt abdomen and pincers. If even this is not enough, Metamor-Deca will enrage and enter what is called a Molten State. Its dragon energy superheats its body, destroying its rocky coating whilst raising its mobility. Now venting heat able to induce a Fire effect, Metamor-Deca attacks with incredible ferocity, though this Molten State cannot be maintained for long. Metamor-Deca tend to live solitary lives, defending their turf vehemently against rivals, but when the time comes to reproduce, the carapaceons migrate to mountainous environments. There, the adults mate with any compataible partner and then bury the eggs before leaving them to their fate. The young that emerge have specialised membranes on their second and fifth limbs that allow them to glide, letting them travel their environment in search of food with ease. Eventually these membranes will atrophy as the juveniles reach adulthood, coaxing them to leave the mountains and seek out lava flows. Metamor-Deca is renowned as an apex in its environment (Low Rank - 5, High/Master Rank - 4) and so presents a formidable challenge. When facing it in its shelled form, hunters should focus on its more vulnerable joints and abdomen, baiting its powerful attacks to leave it open. Once the beast is enraged and enters its Molten State, water and ice weapons will prove effective at inducing temperature shock. Pitfall traps are not effective against Metamor-Deca, who easily climbs free, but shock traps can stymie it. As expected of such a heavily armoured creature, Metamor-Deca has very few enemies, beyond exceptional specimens such as Deviljho or Teostra. One consistent rival, surprisingly, is the piscine wyvern Daemona Xocoe, which may prey on juvenile Metamor-Deca. Adults that encounter this foe thus attack it with extreme prejudice. - Thank you for reading and take care.

so... isopods are crustaceans, so if you had like, enough of the meat, would it taste like shrimps or lobster or crab or whatever? or just like bugs?
“bugs” is a lot of things. the taste of bugs varies. this is akin to saying a plant “tastes like leaves”
if “enough of the meat” means a really big isopod, Bathynomus giant isopods are occasionally eaten and supposedly do taste like other large crustaceans. if it means a bucketful of smaller normal-sized land isopods, I can’t imagine they would taste like much. isopods have more shell and stomach contents (soil) than meat, so most of the meal would be isopod poop and calcium carbonate. one redditor seems to have fried and eaten Porcellio hoffmanseggi and found them to be like crispy shrimp but I’m hesitant to offer more than a sample size of 1.
do also note that dead isopods spoil in a matter of minutes and quickly take on an ammoniac stench. I assume this is why some languages refer to them as “bed-pissers” (Dutch pissebedden).
