Tumblr media
The ruckus reached Regent's Park, causing everyone to start running.
I began to blend in with the crowd, trying to sneak past, knowing that both Jasper and Horace would be fine. They are not stupid enough to get caught by the police.
By walking through small alleys, I reached a small pub, called ' The Camden Assembly Pub'; It was totally full, and a lot of noise came out of that same place, music, to be exact.
"Good evening. Shall I pour you a drink?” asked the man behind the bar
“A Martini. Please"
"Are you celebrating , miss?"
“Indeed, yes”
The drink was served, and just as I was about to take it, a dull blow to my arm made me turn my head, while the music stopped playing.
"Excuse me, I'm sorry, I'm stupid"
A woman spoke, with hair dyed black, with the tips dyed red, perfectly made-up eyebrows, with a makeup that simulated lightning; which made her hazel eyes stand out more. With a nice nose, that she had a nice piercing; full lips, painted with crimson red lipstick; high cheekbones and slightly plump cheeks.
She wore a long-sleeved black shirt, which she accessorized with a short-sleeved Pink Floyd t-shirt, just above it. They were both trapped by a little red tartan pattern skirt, which had a small leg opening, but her legs were still covered by fishnet stockings and ended in big black boots, a bit dirty and worn.
The poor girl had hit me with her guitar, so she quickly lowered the guitar from her shoulder and started walking towards me.
"Sorry I'm so stupid"
Someone else yelled at her, causing the girl to simply dodge to the side and jump over my back to run to the other side of the pub.
A Martini became 2, after 3, until, just as he was going to order the fourth drink, a different music started playing. Guitar, bass and drums started playing, I didn't recognize the song, but they sounded pretty good.
I turned to see the band play and there I could see her, the same girl who had hit me minutes before, was on stage, beginning to sing to the rhythm of the band. She had a soft voice, you could even say that she was a bit out of tune to 'rock', but in some strange way, she fit perfectly, with her surroundings, with the harmony of the group, it was strange.
Apparently the petite woman and her band had been playing here for some time, when a group of girls and boys began to gather right in front of the small stage, singing and dancing as the music shifted from light ballads to covers of more well-known songs. songs and more danceable.
Even some women were moved to see how the boy with the guitar and the bass played and made strange movements to the rhythm of the music, while the men did not stop looking hungrily at the girl who played the drums and the girl who beats the boys. strangers.
"They're good, aren't they?"
I turned back to see how the bartender cleaned up a bit while his gaze never left mine.
“Yes, they are quite good”
“They play here every Friday” I raised an eyebrow, questioning him “if you want come have a drink and see them. The girls there are his fans. I don't see you as a woman who could become his fan, but… I don't judge you."
“Give me another Martini”
I stayed to enjoy the music, the fans singing and yelling and watching the little troublemaker start to tire. Until she announces their retirement, their next presentation and comes down from the stage to sit next to me.
“Rick, give me a beer please”
The man just opened the container and gave it to him.
" Hey , I know you" I looked up from my glass to see how the woman gave me a smile
"Sure, I'm the woman you hit an hour ago"
We both giggled, making the poor thing almost spill her beer.
“I'm sorry, I'm really sorry,” she reached for the olive she had left behind and popped it into her mouth, “but, you're also the new designer, Cruella. The Baroness's New Butt Pain"
"Wow, I thought your good taste would only be limited to your taste in music."
"Well, you saw that it wasn't" she finished her beer and turned her body to sit right in front of me "I like your designs, you are daring, eccentric and not at all imitable"
"Good thank you. You, for your part… you have a good voice”
"I guess I'll take that as a compliment."
We both fell silent for a while; It wasn't an awkward silence, but we could feel the tension. Until more people began to arrive at the place, and it seemed that many knew who I was.
“Do you want to go backstage?” she asked while gently touching my forearm "it's not really a backstage as such, it's just a small room behind this, where the band and I relax" I watched her eyes, trying to decipher her, but she just got a little uncomfortable "there's free drinks, if you want, and there are also candys”
I got up from my seat, ready to start walking towards that room, until I saw how the small woman did not move a muscle.
“Lead the way”
"Sure, of course" she started to walk through the crowd of people, until we reached a small door that led to a corridor full of other doors, she took my wrist and began to guide me "I'm Y/N"
We opened the door at the end of the hall, meeting her friends, who were eating small gummies while playing a video game sitting on the floor.
“ Hey Y/N” the guy on the bass raised his head and looked at me, scanning me “and friend of Y/N that I had never met”
That comment made the other 2 guys turn their heads to see us, and while the other man looked at me with disdain, the woman opened her eyes and looked at Y/N trying to question her
"Guys, this is the new fashion designer, remember the woman who came out of the garbage with an amazing dress?" the men agreed “well, they have it in front of them. They are Max, Mike and Amelia."
“cool”
"You're the one who made an impromptu parade a few streets from here, right?" Amelia asked
I nodded as I sat on the abandoned sofa, next to Y/N
"So, you were the criminal who made me late"
Y/N accused causing me to burst out laughing.
"I plead guilty"
Her friends went back to talking amongst themselves, leaving Y/N and I to have our own conversation.
"Come to think of it, today was also the presentation of the Baroness's new collection, did you plan everything methodically?"
"That's How It Is"
"That's great, I like smart women" she got a little closer
"Who says I like you?" I moved closer too, causing her left shoulder to collide with my right shoulder.
"You didn't run away in horror, so that's already a big step forward," she got up, just so I could take off the oversized coat she was wearing, to put it on a small rack. "Nice coat. When you have your own fashion house, can you get one?”
"What will you give me in exchange?" purr in her ear
"May I give you a kiss"
She started to move closer, and just as I could feel her breath mingling with mine, small, uncertain Estella came back to me, causing my hands to travel quickly to her shoulders, pushing her away.
"I'm sorry, I just... I'm stupid, sorry"
“Your friends are here” I whispered.
"You know, you don't need excuses, I overdid it and I'm sorry"
Would I dare to kiss her even without her friends near us? I must admit that I find Y/N attractive, and although I have learned over time that emotional bonds only distract you from your path, human needs are fundamental and sex is a big part of it.
"I have to go home"
I gave her a small kiss on the neck and got up, starting to walk quickly to leave the room. Just as I was about to start walking back to my house, Y/N yelled.
"Hey, you forgot your coat"
She ran to reach you and try to deliver the garment
"No, keep it, so I'll have an excuse to look for you" I smiled at her as I walked away and started on my way home.
I entered the small elevator, and as it went up, I remembered the resounding success I had against that harpy. I hadn't had time to celebrate my triumph, so I started humming a song that Y/N had sung, I opened the door, ready to start bragging about my achievement together with Jasper and Horace, until I turned on the light
“Cruella...”

I hope you enjoy it

Cover: Tiger Woods' car crash
Tumblr media
Page 2: Bruce Springsteen has beaten the DUI charges leveled against him after federal prosecutors couldn't find a drop of evidence he had been drinking over the legal limit -- with an acceptable blood alcohol level of 0.02 well below the 0.08 threshold at the time of his arrest in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, prosecutors backed off two of their charges for drunken and reckless driving -- the rocker did plead guilty to a third charge, admitting he had two small shots of tequila on federal parkland and for that, he was fines $500 plus $40 in court costs
Page 3: Patrick Dempsey's dreamy return to Grey's Anatomy was a big hit with fans but his well-received cameo left series star Ellen Pompeo seething with jealousy -- Ellen may have permitted Patrick to revisit his old stomping grounds in Meredith Grey's fever dreams in season 17 but she doesn't want him coming back permanently and swiping her hard-earned glory and she considers herself the anchor of the show and thought she was rid of this guy after making the show her own, but now fans are begging for him to be brought back and Ellen is furious -- it's no secret Ellen hated the first 10 years of the show when Patrick was the star and she feels the series got better after he left and she became a big-shot producer, something she'd been demanding for years -- she likes being in control and calling the shots and clearly thinks she got this deal on her merit alone but it's also because she's the star who's lasted the longest; most of the original cast had already left and bosses had to cave in to keep her -- unfortunately being in charge hasn't amounted to better ratings and show has been slipping consistently in recent years and the main reason they brought Patrick back on was to spike the ratings, which it did and now producers are considering offering Patrick a full-time gig but Ellen will do everything in her power to prevent Patrick from stealing her thunder again
Page 4: Home reno gurus Chip and Joanna Gaines are clashing over his wild spending, and she's desperate to rein him in before they land in the poorhouse -- Chip and Jo are rich on paper and worth $20 million in property and assets but they were hit hard by the pandemic like everyone else and recovery has been sluggish to say the least -- they're just getting back on their feet and under a ton of pressure to get their Magnolia network off to a running start but Chip, as usual, is casual when it comes to money and it frustrates Jo to see him buying things they don't need, like new tools and equipment when the old ones work just fine and overpaying on lumber and masonry -- Chip is always shopping and not always for the house; he's got a boot fetish and has dozens of pairs, plus he treats the crew to free cappuccino and treats from their coffeehouse several time a day and Chip wants the best of everything for himself and everyone else
* Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are ready to welcome baby number four through adoption -- the couple who are parents of daughters James and Inez and Betty hope to find their next child in South America and they've invested time and money sponsoring immigrant children and they're warming up to the idea of providing an orphaned baby or toddler with a forever home -- a 16-year-old girl they sponsored through the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights was deported back to Honduras and they were heartbroken, and Blake and Ryan are now determined to provide a child with a happy home and opportunities he or she wouldn't have in their native country
Page 5: Newlyweds Pamela Anderson and Dan Hayhurst are itching to start a family and are already trying for a baby of their own -- 53-year-old Pam tied the knot with the 40-year-old handyman on Christmas Eve at her Vancouver Island home and she's been telling pals they hope to have happy news soon -- Pam wants to build a whole new clan with Dan and he's on board even though they each have kids with their exes and Dan's two kids from a previous relationship are living with the couple at Pam's pad -- the couple love the idea of adopting or going the surrogate route and it's not something they want to waste any time over
Page 6: Weary Kelly Clarkson is juggling her skyrocketing career and brutal divorce battle with estranged husband Brandon Blackstock on less than six hours sleep a night and Kelly has also been pushing to sell her homes in Nashville and Encino, while running her L.A.-based talk show and recording new music -- she's been running herself ragged for months and she's feeling the burn in a big way but despite her exhaustion, she can't sleep and nothing she tries works and the most shut-eye she catches is two, three hours at a time; she lays awake in bed at night worrying and crying
* Suddenly remorseful Kanye West has spiraled into depression and despair since soon-to-be ex-wife Kim Kardashian filed for divorce -- for all their problems, Kanye realizes she was the one person who was there for him whenever he went off the deep end and now he knows he's alone and seriously doubts he can hold his life together -- without Kim and her family to keep his wild impulses in check, he may succumb to the poor judgment and wild mood swings that have marked his chronic bipolar disorder as they were the ones who reminded him to take his meds and steer clear of recreational drugs and now all he has is a circle of yes-men he doesn't listen to anyway -- since the split, Kanye has shuttled between his ranch in Cody, Wyoming and a hotel in L.A. near the sprawling mansion he once shared with Kim and he's been blowing up her phone to beg forgiveness, but she won't take his calls and it's driving him off the deep end again
Page 7: Kourtney Kardashian is fed up with Shanna Moakler's online barbs and is plotting her revenge against the ex-wife of her new squeeze -- since Kourtney and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker went public with their romance last month, former pageant queen Shanna has been throwing social media shade and Kourtney's tired of taking Shanna's crap and she's going to fire back soon and Kourtney's using her wide network of contacts in Hollywood to bad-mouth Shanna and she's placing calls to casting directors and perspective suitors to put as many potholes in her love rival's path as possible and she plans to make Shanna regret messing with her
Page 8: Nearly two years after Johnny Depp was forced to exit Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise following ex-wife Amber Heard's allegations of abuse, the company has kicked him while he's down by considering her for a plum part -- Johnny is fuming over news that Amber is reportedly in contention to play fairy-tale heroine Rapunzel in the studio's upcoming live-action remake of Tangled -- for Amber to be in the running for a Disney pic is the ultimate insult to him especially because he believes the company made millions of dollars off his name
Page 9: Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle had a whopping $500 million motive to betray Queen Elizabeth -- outraged at being cut loose by the British royals, the couple retaliated by secretly negotiating backroom Hollywood megadeals and going public on TV -- Harry and Meghan see themselves as victims of an out-of-touch monarchy and want revenge and selling out Harry's family is the way to get it and cash in big-time; Meghan's convinced they'll have deals totaling $500 million by the end of the year but they better act fast because Hollywood is a fickle town where even royalty can be chewed up and spat out
Page 10: Hot Shots -- Amelia Hamlin stuck to the shore while pink-haired beau Scott Disick made waves in Miami, Steve Martin nibbled on a pretzel while filming Only Murders in the Building in NYC, Floyd Mayweather turned 44 and celebrated with a birthday bash in Miami, Bachelorette reject Tyler Cameron showed off his toned tummy in Florida
Page 11: Drew Barrymore feels deeply for dad-controlled Britney Spears because she's been there: she said her mom locked her away in a loony bin for over a year when she was just 13 -- Drew said it's hard to grow up in front of people and she empathizes with Britney and Paris Hilton and any star who can't escape the glare of celebrity -- Drew's mom put her in a place that was a full psychiatric ward and says she used to laugh at those Malibu 30-day places because she was in a place for a year and a half called Van Nuys Psychiatric and you couldn't mess around there and if you did, you would either get thrown in the padded room or put in stretcher restraints and tied up
* Eddie Murphy famously bragged he has never changed a diaper in his life despite having so many kids and now he's set on having another baby with fiancee Paige Butcher and this will make baby No. 11 for Eddie -- he says his genes are incredible as ever, so why stop; he's super fit and Paige is in amazing shape at age 41 and wants at least one more baby so they're going to go for it and are already trying
Page 12: Straight Shuter gossip column -- CNN could blitz news veteran Wolf Blitzer as the network revamps its lineup and TV is a young person's game and no one knows that better than Wolf and after 31 years at CNN, he sees new faces getting promoted and knows his days are numbered and Jim Acosta and Poppy Harlow are the future of CNN, not Wolf -- although Wolf's airtime has been cut as Jake Tapper's role expands, he isn't bitter or angry but instead he's grateful for an amazing run
* Love It or List It star Hilary Farr is moving on to her own show and leaving partner David Visentin in the dust -- Hilary's new show is basically the same one she and David have been doing for years, with him edited out and David was blindsided by the news and he knows HGTV has sent out a casting notice for the new show and he's hurt and angry especially because Love It or List It hasn't been renewed yet
* Sacked Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron has reached out to Chris Harrison after he stepped away from The Bachelor amid a racist scandal -- Tom wasn't fired over a scandal, but he knows exactly what Chris is going through because both of them thought they had a job for life, but nothing lasts forever -- Tom is a good guy and wants Chris to know he's around if Chris needs anything
* Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, spruced up for the camera (picture)
Page 13: Brooke Shields isn't letting a busted leg keep her down but she's taking her recovery one step at a time -- she shared an Instagram video showing her cautiously hobbling on crutches and explained she broker her femur and she was beginning to mend -- she didn't reveal what caused the unlucky break
* Outspoken actress Rose McGowan is living a charmed life in Mexico and the Harvey Weinstein accuser has headed south of the border and vows never to return to the United States -- she got her permanent residency card from Mexico and is grateful to have it and says it's a really healing land and it is truly magical -- she moved at the dawn of the COVID-19 pandemic because she knew it was going to get really bad in America and she had a moment to figure out where she wanted to be
* Picky perfectionist Blake Shelton listens to around 300 songs to choose what to record for each of his albums, according to his longtime producer -- music pro Scott Hendricks said he wades through nearly 3000 tracks by professional songwriters to select tunes for Blake to consider and then Blake methodically whittles down the nominees until he's certain which songs he wants to record but Scott admitted that process is more difficult for him culling the 300 from the 3000 -- Scott, who has worked with Blake for most of his career, said of their close professional relationship that the chemistry works and they have recorded several hundred or more songs together and they are getting ready to go do some more
Page 14: Crime
Page 15: Killer kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's busted beauty queen bride will be marked for death behind bars -- if Emma Coronel Aispuro snitches to the feds about the bloodthirsty Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel long run by her caged husband, she'll put a big fat bulls-eye on her back -- according to a federal complaint, Coronel was intimately involved in her husband's multibillion-dollar drug-running racket and acted as his criminal agent while he was on the lam and the mother of El Chapo's two young daughters helped mastermind her spouse's daring 2015 tunnel escape from a Mexican prison and also paid him $100,000 for another failed bust-out a year later -- they are going to put the heat on her to spill more details on other top operatives in the cartel and take them down, too, but if she spills, it will be open season on her on the inside
Page 16: Dr. Dre appears to rap about estranged wife Nicole Young in a song filled with angry, explicit lyrics calling someone in his life a greedy bitch -- DJ Silk previewed part of a new track from Dre full of digs presumably at Nicole, with whom he has been locked in a nasty divorce -- his lyrics include: Trying to kill me with them lies and that perjury/ I see you trying to f--k me while I'm in surgery / In ICU death bed on some money s--t / Greedy bitch take a pic / Girl you know how money get
* Hollywood Hookups -- Lorenzo Lamas is set to wed for the sixth time to model Kenna Scott, Justin Hartley and Chrishell Stause are officially divorced, Adam Rippon is engaged to Jussi-Pekka Kajaala
Page 17: Former Home Improvement kid Zachery Ty Bryan has pleaded guilty to two felony counts of domestic violence -- Zachery, now 39, has been sentenced to three years of probation and will also have to take part in a batterer intervention program
* John Mayer has dated a succession of famous singers including Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Halsey and he hopes they write chart-topping songs about him and admitted he'd be jazzed if his exes enshrined him in song, saying sometimes a song is so good he hopes it's about him and he even scours their lyrics for clues -- Taylor already has several tracks that have been linked to John including Dear John
* Ruthless chef Gordon Ramsay said he's cooked up his own plan to keep his kids humble -- he has five kids with wife Tana: Megan, twins Holly and Jack, Tilly and Oscar but said he plans to leave most of his reported $200 million fortune to charity -- Gordon explained his kids must tidy up after dinners, can only fly coach and are expected to learn how to cook for themselves and he's forbidden them from taking costly taxis and the foulmouthed foodie insisted they don't swear
Page 18: American Life
Page 19: Roseanne Barr was blindsided by a humiliating new scandal after risque photos from the early '90s recently emerged which appear to show her teenage daughters licking her boobs -- Roseanne posed for the shots with her two youngest girls at a Glamour Shots studio in Iowa more than 25 years ago and the photographer who claimed he snapped the fake lesbian lovefest but did not want to be named dished Roseanne and daughters Jessica and Jennifer who are now in their mid-40s happily hammed it up for the camera but decades later Roseanne and her daughters are all mortified and embarrassed by these pics; they were horsing around years ago and never thought they'd see the light of day
Page 20: Cover Story -- Still recovering from agonizing back surgery, Tiger Woods was pushing himself to the limit when he flew off a California cliff into a career-crushing car accident -- lawmen said the golf legend was lucky to be alive after the horrific wreck that shattered his right leg -- the accident only added to Tiger's physical problems; his movement has been restricted since a fifth back operation in December and he was unable to play golf despite an appearance at a local tournament the weekend before the bloody wreck -- at a press conference days before cheating death, Tiger admitted he was worried about his physical condition and his ability to play again, saying a lot of it is based on his surgeons and doctors and therapist and making sure he does it correctly and he doesn't have a lot of wiggle room left -- Tiger could barely move, and it seemed to get him down and his back rehab has been brutal and he was hobbling around and distraught but he refused to give into his condition and his tough-as-nails mindset could have contributed to the crash: when a person is overwhelmed by physical pain, that dominates everything they do and if you're behind the wheel of a car and in physical pain, it can distract you and likely lead to this kind of disaster -- Tiger was eager to get to a TV taping on the morning disaster struck and he seemed impatient when he left the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, an L.A. suburb, just after 7 a.m. and although traffic cameras show he was driving within the speed limit, his Genesis GV80 SUV crossed the center median onto the opposite side of the road and flipped -- authorities said Tiger appeared lucid to first responders and there were no signs the recovering addict was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and they did not request a blood test when Tiger was rushed to the hospital from the crash site and the incident was an accident -- Tiger was taken to nearby Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where doctors said his broken bones protruded through his right leg and they put a rod in his leg and used screws and pins to stabilize the break and his ankle -- it will take three to four months to heal and then eight months of physical therapy and it is unlikely he will ever run again and he may have a limp and in terms of golf, just walking for extended periods of time will be a big deal and recovery will be agonizing; it's a very real possibility that Tiger's taken his final swing
Page 21: Addiction experts warned Tiger Woods' recovery will test his sobriety after his stint in rehab for prescription painkiller use and it is very, very common for a patient in recovery to relapse after a trauma like the one suffered by Tiger and exposure to painkillers administered directly or prescribed after a physical trauma is highly likely to trigger a relapse -- Tiger will probably need painkillers to get through this, but he'll also need to be connected with like-minded people to keep him away from his old thinking that pills are the solution to his problems
Page 22: Desperate Ghislaine Maxwell has offered to renounce her British and French citizenships in a new bid to get out of jail -- the disgraced socialite's last two stabs at freedom including one package offering $22.5 million as bond money were rejected by a judge who deemed her a flight risk -- now according to her lawyers, Ghislaine will formally commence the procedure to renounce her foreign citizenship to satisfy any concerns the court may have that she may try to seek a safe haven in France or the U.K. -- Justice Department officials were concerned Ghislaine would flee to France, where she was born, since the country has no extradition treaty with the U.S.
* Woody Allen claimed his own words are being used to attack him in the bombshell Allen v. Farrow documentary -- Woody has repeatedly denied adopted daughter Dylan Farrow's claims he sexually abused her when she was seven at her mom Mia Farrow's home -- Woody blasted the documentary which rehashes the claims as a shoddy hit piece and a hatched job riddled with falsehoods adding the filmmakers stole from his autobiography
Page 26: Twice-divorced Ricki Lake's engagement to California attorney Ross Burningham has insiders fearing she may suffer yet another heartbreak -- she announced her happy news on Instagram but Ricki has seen far more than her share of bad luck in the romance department and everyone is praying this final shot at love doesn't end in despair and it's never Ricki's fault, but she's never found a man who could keep her happy
Page 28: A lurid landscape of drug-fueled orgies, suicidal thoughts and fake sexual enthusiasm will play out in a new television series based on model and reality star Holly Madison's X-rated confessions from her shocking 2015 biography Down the Bunny Hole -- Madison first exposed the sleazy details of how she and other young women were plied with drugs and coerced to participate in sex parties with Playboy founder Hugh Hefner in exchange for acting as his girlfriends and getting to live inside the iconic L.A. mansion along with a weekly $1000 stipend -- the limited series will star actress Samara Weaving as Holly, who was a member of Hef's harem between 2001 and 2008 -- Holly, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt became the notorious stars of the reality show The Girls Next Door which debuted in 2005 and focused on their seemingly glamorous life with Hef but glossed over the dark secrets behind the scenes -- in her bombshell confessions, Holly revealed the 22-bedroom manor was actually a foul pigsty filled with stained mattresses where Hef's live-in ladies were forced to perform weird bedroom rituals and look excited by it
Page 29: Jack Osbourne has listed his sprawling California home for rent at $16,500 a month -- the 35-year-old son of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne is offering the five-bedroom, 5600-square-foot home in Studio City unfurnished -- Sharon was recently seen outside the home with moving vans helping Jack prep the property -- Jack, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, bought the home in 2014 when he was married to Lisa Stelly; the couple divorced in 2018 and share three children: Andy, Pearl and Minnie
* Heidi Klum has snipped all threads tying her to dad Gunther Klum after the cosmetics and modeling honcho skipped her wedding -- Heidi dumped her manager dad after he snubbed her August 2019 ceremony in Capri with guitarist Tom Kaulitz of the band Tokio Hotel and she has also ended her German enterprise Heidi Klum GmbH, originally overseen by Gunther -- Heidi and her dad had a falling out over Tom and Gunther never really approved of him and was dead set against the marriage and it drove a wedge in their relationship
Page 32: Health Watch
* Ask the Vet -- an African Gray Parrot with a feather-picking problem
Page 34: Barack Obama broke a buddy's nose over a racist remark -- he revealed the two classmates were playing basketball when his friend hurled a racial slur and he popped him in the face and broke his nose, Obama told Bruce Springsteen on their podcast Renegades: Born in the USA -- Obama said he doesn't think his pal even knew what the word meant, just that it was meant to be hurtful
* Country singer Keith Urban has shrunk to 140 pounds as the former addict is hooked on a bizarre diet of nuts and berries and even worse, the five-foot-ten crooner appears to be growing thinner and friends are worried the stress of his demanding career and his desperate desire to be a good husband to Nicole Kidman may push him over the edge -- no one sees him eating much more than handfuls of raw almonds or sunflower seeds and berries washed down with gallons of water -- though he's been sober since 2006, pals fear the struggle to avoid giving in to temptation as well as hearing Nicole purportedly mended fences with ex-hubby Tom Cruise may be weighing on the star -- despite his bony appearance, Keith thinks he looks great
Page 40: Evil ISIS terrorists are using the COVID-19 pandemic as cover while they rebuild their network and mastermind new attacks and both Iraq and the U.S. are in their crosshairs -- because the West has been focused on dealing with the pandemic, ISIS and new groups sprung from their shattered forces have been reloading and plotting revenge, according to Ryan Mauro of the terrorist-monitoring Clarion Intelligence Network -- the pandemic has brought decreased confidence in Western governments, which has emboldened the terrorists to launch sleeper cell attacks on foreign soil

Fluffy ELU one shot (a little bit of smut at the end... ;))
As usual, please, be aware that english isn't my first language. I hope there aren't too many mistakes in this story, I did my best at least ! I hope you'll enjoy this little story anyway... Comments are loooved ! Oh and feel free to come and talk to me... :)
Under the sheets
A light rain was falling on the streets of Paris since morning. Lucas, safe in the apartment he still shared with Mika, Lisa and Manon, was enjoying one of those rare days when he was alone at home. Anyone who once lived with roommates  will understand this small but oh-so-precious pleasure. Do what you want, as you want, when you want. The Playstation controller in his hands, he was in the middle of a game when he heard a knock on the door. No doubt it was Eliott, knowing that they could be alone for a day, Lucas had invited him to join him.
« Come in! » Lucas shouted, still quite absorbed in the game. Eliott stayed outside. Why didn't he come in? Lucas knew that by raising even a little his voice, anyone in the lobby of the building, could hear. Frowning, Lucas paused the game, pulled himself out of the blanket he had placed on his laps and walked to the front door.
As he approached, Eliott, on the other side of the door, started to pound on it, yelling at Lucas to hurry up. He seemed eager to come in. Lucas rushed himself. The door was indeed locked. He turned the key in the lock and scarcely had it opened the door that Eliott rushed inside the apartment and closed behind him in a hurry.
« What... what the hell? » The young man asked, anxious.
« Your neighbours out there... They have a girl, She's freaking me out as fuck. »
Lucas had a hard time holding back a mocking laugh.
« Clémence? The little blonde? She scares you?!
-It's her eyes... I don't trust them.
-But...
-The girl is strange no question.
-She’s 10, how can she scare you?
-She is, that's all. Oh. » He bent over and put a soft kiss on Lucas's lips. « Hello, by the way. » Then he started walking toward the living room. Lucas, on his heel, was still thinking. « Still... » He laughed. « All this for a kid...
-She may seem like lollipops and rainbows but I bet behind close doors she’s latex and whips... » Eliott answered, taking a seat on the ageless couch. Surprised of this crazy answer, Lucas remained speechless for a few seconds.
« You weirdo... » He finally cracked, collapsing on the couch before snuggling up against him.
« I’m not weird. I am limited edition. »
Lucas smiled. Indeed, there weren't two like him. In this dimension at least. Would he be tired, someday, of listening to his crazy stories, his crazy ideas? It was obvious that Eliott didn't really think that the little neighbour was a bondage fan. He said that simply to make him laugh, he, Lucas, always so serious, down-to-earth. Eliott was aware of this, he had the imagination and the necessary "craziness" that Lucas lacked. He had the power to bring forth the most beautiful smile on his lips. So indeed, he used and abused of that power.
« Well... What do you want to do? » Lucas asked after a long silence.
« I don’t know, what do you want to do ? »
It had been a full week since Lucas knew they would have the apartment for both of them so, of course, he had imagined every possible places where they could make love. The kitchen countertop exceeded by far all other options. But for now, he had another idea in mind...
« Do you know what I liked to do when I was a kid, alone at home? -Tell me. » Eliott answered, gazing his laughing eyes into Lucas's. « You'll think it's stupid. -Tell me ! -Blanket forts. » He said shyly, lowering his eyes. Eliott smiled. « Alright ! » He cheered, getting up suddenly. « What are we starting with? » He asked, slapping his own thighs like a strange warrior.
« Don't you want to change out of your clothes first? » If Lucas wore his jogging and tee-shirt since morning, the perfect outfit for a good chill-out sunday, Eliott was still wearing his tight jeans and wet hoodie. « Bébé... » He started to say, using this nickname to annoy Lucas as he thought it was ridiculous. « I don't fit in your clothes.
« Not mine, you idiot, I'm sure Mika's would fit perfectly... » Lucas replied, getting up before walking toward his roommate's bedroom. He came out a minute later, a jogging and a white tee-shirt in his arms. « Here, try this and put your sweatshirt on the radiator. » He gave the clothes to Eliott. The latter, smiling, grabbed his chin with infinite sweetness, made him raise his face and kissed him tenderly. « Thank you. » Eliott sighed before taking off his hoodie and jeans. Lucas let his eyes lingered on his boyfriend's body. He never would have thought he could feel so strongly attracted by a body of a boy or even a girl. Even after two months of relationship, he couldn't help but feel this sweet pain in his belly caused by the view of Eliott's skin. Once changed, the young man turned to Lucas. « It's perfect. You're right it's better like that.
-However not a word to Mika, he'd kill me on the spot. -No problem, bébé. -Putain, stop with that! -Sorry but it's funny. -No funny... » Lucas pouted. « Well! What do we do now? » Eliott asked again, too happy to have such an impact on the boy who haunted all his own nights. « First of all, we have to make room... Push the table. »
Eliott ridded the coffee table of every objects which were on it in order to move it against one of the walls. Lucas pushed the heavy couch next to the dining table to create a space big enough for the fort.
« Damn, you’re strong for a little thing... » Eliott told with a mocking look.
« I keep my cards hidden Eliott, I keep my cards hidden... »
Once the furniture was pushed to the sides, Lucas went to explore every corner of the apartment and brought back all the sheets and blankets he could find.
« Step aside and watch a pro... »
Without waiting, Eliott grabbed a white sheet, tied it to an old woolen blanket, and tried to hook one of the corners to a small bookcase. The fort was taking shape but Lucas wasn't moving, watching his boyfriend with skeptical eyes. As Eliott prepared to lay a heavy blanket on top of the fort, Lucas spoke again. « It'll break everything if you put that on it.
-You’re questioning my methods ?
-I’m not questioning, I’m saying it’s stupid. »
Leaving Eliott to his frustration, Lucas walked to the speaker on the coffee table, plugged in his phone and started one of his favourite songs, Comfortably numb by Pink Floyd.
« Fuck... »
Lucas turned around and saw the roof of the fort collapsed on itself in front of Eliott, useless and dissapointed, passing his hand through his hair. The two young men came back to work even more, this time, showing an incredible cooperation. A few minutes later, the result surpassed all Lucas's hopes.
Their blanket fort was large and colored. The floor was covered by a thick mattress on which were disperced many covers of different materials and four pillows of different sizes. This was perfect.
The first to come in the fort was Eliott, crawling, he disappeared under the covers. Lucas turned off the living room's main light, turned on a little bedside lamp on the bookcase and followed him closely. Under the covers, the boy found Eliott lying comfortably on the mattress, all the pillows on his side. Lucas lay on his back, close to him. He still lacked one or two pillows to feel totally comfy though...
« Pillows are over-rated... » He sighed.
In response, Eliott threw one of the pillows on his face. Lucas replied, lashing his stomach with the same pillow. Bursting into laughter, Eliott stepped over Lucas, sat on his stomach and immobilised him without any difficulty, his wrists in his hands above his head. Lucas frowned.
« Admit it, I'm stronger than you. »
Not knowing what to say, Lucas remained silent and sulked.
« Hate me all you want. You can’t deny we spend wonderful time together.
-I don't hate you. » Suddenly Lucas recovered all his seriousness. « I could never hate you. »
Smiling and visibly touched by Lucas' answer, Eliott released him, handed him two of the pillows and stretched out. The two young men lay on their backs side by side.
« Wait, stay right there, I’ve got a song I want to listen now. » The oldest of the two boys crawled to the exit of their fort. For a few short minutes, Lucas heard him coming and going in the living room. The first notes of a song started to escape from the speaker. Eliott reappeared at the entrance to the fort. He had gotten rid of his clothes, wearing only his black boxer. He held a joint in his left hand. He lay on his back, lit the joint and took a long, deep puff. Unable to help himself, Lucas shifted and dropped his head on Eliott's torso.
Le spleen n'est plus à la mode, c'est pas compliqué d'être heureux
A song with a deep meaning for Eliott... Lucas's lips twisted into a melancholy smile. He understood why Eliott had chosen that song. He decided to remain silent. He closed his eyes and got as close as possible to the young man's body.
« You’re very warm… It’s nice. » He whispered.
« And you smell good. » Eliott answered. « I wish we could stay here forever. » He added in a bittersweet voice.
Lucas sighed, he took the joint and took a first puff. The air was now saturated with herbaceous smoke, the rain was hitting the window, punctuating the few silences conceded by the music. After a long time, it was Lucas' turn to straighten up, with sweet gestures, he sat down on Eliott's belly and took all his courage in his hands to gaze into his light blue eyes.
« I love you. » He whispered, as if he was out of breath. Eliott, still looking into his eyes, said nothing, took the joint and took a puff.  « I'm »... Lucas bended over and kissed Eliott's lips.  « ...completely... » A kiss on his jaw.  « ...and utterly... » A new one in the neck. « ...in love... » On the collarbone « With you » On the chest.
Shivering and unable to hold a hoarse groan of pleasure, Eliott put his hands on Lucas's face, brought him close to him and put his lips on his.
Le spleen n'est plus à la mode, c'est pas compliqué d'être heureux
Not thinking about words strong enough to respond to those of Lucas, Eliott kissed him, completely surrendered to him. The meeting of their two mouths became warm, deep and passionate.
Tout, il faudrait tout oublier
On joue, mais là, j'ai trop joué
Feeling only one desire, to become one with Lucas, Eliott clung to him like to a life ring. Tasting his lips and his breath, forgetting to breathe, he truely wanted to give back these wonderful love words to Lucas, but for that, it would have been necessary to move away from his lips, impossible.
Ce bonheur, si je le veux, je l'aurai
Eliott would have liked to love him with his words, words which he couldn't find so he gave him his whole soul through his lips. Hands in his hair, arched back to better fit the shape of his body, he forgot everything. Lucas was the only thing to exist, his eyes, his lips, his body.
N'existe pas sans son contraire, une jeunesse pleine de sentiments
Tout, il faudrait tout oublier
Opening his eyes after a long long time, Eliott put his forehead against Lucas's, breathless, flushed cheeks. The two young men gazed into each other's eyes. In the History, the blue colour had never been considered as a warm color, it was a very big mistake, Eliott thought, there was nothing warmer and more comforting than Lucas's blue eyes.
On joue, mais là, j'ai trop joué
Ce bonheur, si je le veux, je l'aurai
Lucas, with a wide gesture, took his tee-shirt off before resting his forehead against Eliott's one. « Kiss me again. » He whispered. Too happy to be permitted to do what he was craving for, Eliott push his boyfriend under his body and rested his wet lips against his. This time, his hands didn't stay in his hair, they became more adventurous, stroking his cheek, his neck, his chest, discovering his belly.
Le spleen n'est plus à la mode, c'est pas compliqué d'être heureux
Ferme les yeux, oublie que tu es toujours seul
Finally, Eliott's hand slipped under the fabric of Lucas's pants, caressed the groin area and made his way between his legs. Then, while he began to stroke him from the base of his penis to its head, he felt some hands slip into his own boxer. Eliott gazed into Lucas's eyes. « Together and we're waiting for each other... » Lucas whispered in a sigh, like a child dictating the rules of a new game.
C'est simple, sois juste heureux, si tu l'voulais, tu le s'rais
Ce bonheur, si je le veux, je l'aurai
In a childish setting, under colourful blankets and swirls of smoke, the two teenagers loved each other to the rhythm of the music. Then, once the desire was consumed, their bodies rested and their spirits soothed, Eliott and Lucas fell asleep, huddled together.
Le spleen n'est plus à la mode, c'est pas compliqué d'être heureux
It wasn't very late when Manon came back home so she was surprised not to hear a single noise. Had Lucas left the apartment without locking the door? Weird... Arrived in the living room, she discovered the pile of blankets a.k.a the blankets fort of his roomate and his boyfriend. On tiptoe, she approached, leaned over and ran her head through the white sheet. The two teenagers slept, cuddling in underwear. Manon bit his lip. God, they were beautiful... Reluctantly, she turned away from this peaceful scene. On the way to her room, she picked up a jogging and a tee-shirt which she recognized belonging to Mika and put them in his room. They could thank her later...

I’ll be the first to admit that when I first heard of 5 Seconds of Summer it was because of my niece Kayla. At the time, she was starting to get the hang of playing guitar and she said, “There’s this cool band called 5 Seconds of Summer, you should check them out.” I said, “OK but didn’t they open for One Direction?”, she proudly said yes and played a few songs.
My initial reaction was this is really good radio-friendly Pop-Punk. A few months later she asked for help in learning some parts of one of their songs from their debut album 5 Seconds of Summer. We started going through the parts and I was forced to pay closer attention. While listening, I thought to myself, “Wow, these are well crafted songs…. Those guitars sound great, the vocal arrangements are on point and the rhythm section is seriously good.”
As soon as Kayla started learning guitar I was feeding her a steady diet of Zeppelin, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, U2, Nirvana and more, to show her the groups she “should be” drawing influence on. She humored me, listened and had some positive comments but like my first listening of 5SOS not much came out of it. Then I realized, “Why on earth would she want to emulate my “rock gods”? “. She has found her own for her generation and they deserved the recognition.
Rock Out With Your Socks Out
My first in person encounter with 5SOS in September 2015 and I was determined to find out who they were as musicians. Studio albums are one thing but playing live is a completely different animal. At that time, I had failed to appreciate that 5SOS was a band that was essentially born on the road opening up for One Direction in 2013 and 2014. Now 5SOS and 1D don’t exactly have the same sound and opening for one of, if not the biggest groups of 2013/2014 has an upside and a downside. On the upside, you get to perform your music and expose your band to a massive audience but the downside is the fans came to see One Direction not 5 Seconds of Summer. Therefore, you have to work harder than the headliner to capture the audience.
We had made arrangements to go to meet the 5SOS technical crew at the show in Hartford, CT on the final run of their first headlining tour Rock Out With Your Socks Out, which covered 3 continents and 69 cities. The pre-show period of any live concert is already a hive of controlled chaos hours before the band takes the stage. A team of hard working people are loading in equipment, placing stage pieces, setting lights, rigging line arrays, conducting sound checks, dealing with the inevitable and daily “uh oh” moments, plus getting all the instruments set and show ready. Don’t forget, this is all what you can see from the seats at the venue, there is just as much going on backstage too.
After sound check the stage was empty and doors hadn’t opened yet, so that was the perfect time to meet with the crew to understand how everything on stage is used.  During this brief downtime, Ashton Irwin (Drums/Vocals) had taken it upon himself to come over and introduce himself and thank us for coming. Ashton didn’t have to do that, in fact he probably gave up his one break he had all day to do it, but he did, which made an impression on me.
Ashton went on to explain how he was using a V-DRUMS Portable TD-4KP as a warm up kit and a SPD-SX Sampling Pad  on stage. One of Michael Clifford’s (Guitar/Vocals) first pedals was a BOSS DD-20 Giga Delay  , plus Luke Hemmings (Guitar/Vocals), Calum Hood (Bass/Vocals) and Michael were already using BOSS TU-3 Chromatic Tuners on stage. The first single from the band’s forthcoming second album Sounds Good Feels Good had just been released and the video for She’s Kinda Hot was released a month later.
The video for She’s Kinda Hot features Ashton playing SPD-SX with custom stickers. In addition, it is clear the band’s sound had evolved and pushed forward from the first album.
So there I was, standing in the audience like a good forty something musician, arms crossed with that “impress me” look on my face. The lights went down, 5 Seconds of Summer took the stage and the venue went exploded with energy.  5SOS can put on a show and they didn’t rely on gimmicks or hide behind production. It was clear to me that they were not only talented musicians but performers too, I was truly impressed, these guys could play.
Sounds Good Feels Good
Just like their debut album, John Feldmann produced their second Sounds Good Feels Good, but the songs featured a deeper musicianship and darker tone than the first album. The evolution of their sound had started and Jet Black Heart is a great example of the new direction the band was taking.
Sounds Good Feels Good, like its predecessor 5 Seconds of Summer, debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, making 5SOS the first band (non-vocal) to have their first two albums debut at number one.
Sounds Live Feel Live
To accompany the success of Sounds Good Feels Good and the three singles released from the album, 5SOS announced another world tour, Sounds Live Feel Live which covered 4 continents and 101 shows.
The relationship between Roland/BOSS and 5 Seconds of Summer had deepened since the initial meet up the previous year. The band was in rehearsals and all the pieces for the tour were coming together. Ashton was going out with a new hybrid drum kit that was half acoustic and half Roland V-Drums. The V-Drums components were the SPD-SX, KT-10 Kick Trigger, TM-2 and V-Pads.
For the tour, Michael and Luke had both selected the Waza Amplifiers and Cabinets  which was very exciting for both us and them (more on that later). Calum was running a BOSS only pedal board which included a BB-1X Bass Driver . In addition, all three were using the BOSS ES-8 Switchers.  Finally, Michael had led the decision to have the RD-800 on stage. Carry On was the opening song and the first notes heard would be the RD-800.
The Waza Amp Story
As the guitarists in “The World’s Hottest Band” ( Rolling Stone – Dec 2015), Michael and Luke could have chosen any amp they wanted but they decided to go with the BOSS Wazas based on tone. This decision is another example of the band putting their vision and sound ahead of “playing it safe”. They loved the tone control and “Waza Brown Sound” that Waza system brought to the stage.
BOSS had only just announced the Waza Amps a few months before so the factory was still ramping up production. The plan was for the first units from the factory in Japan were to be hand delivered by the BOSS team to the first show of the tour in Nagoya. As you can imagine, a band embarking on a world tour with empty flight cases and trusting that your gear will be ready once you fly halfway across the world is not exactly the norm and requires some significant trust.
Meanwhile in Hamamatsu, Japan, the BOSS team including Yoshi Ikegami President of BOSS, were diligently hand assembling each amp and cabinet.
On the day of the first show in Nagoya, Yoshi Ikegami and the BOSS team loaded up the vans with Waza Amps and Cabinets and headed out to Century Hall in Nagoya. The 5SOS team had finished assembling the the stage and were getting ready to start sound check when Ikegami-san arrived with the Waza Amps and Cabinets. They unloaded the vans, rolled the Wazas on stage and fired up. The show and more importantly the tour could now go on!
Youngblood
Evolution is a key to life and this is no different when it comes to music. Given the success 5SOS had achieved, you would think that they had found “the formula” to producing hit after hit. Instead of sticking to their Pop/Punk roots that had garnered them worldwide success, the Australian quartet ripped up their “playbook” and took an entire year to craft their new album. The result is another step forward in their sonic evolution.
Want You Back is the first single from the forthcoming third album Youngblood. The audio only video is already over 10 million views and the music video was released at the end of March. Check out the video above and you’ll see the Waza cabs.
Want You Back – Acoustic
5 Seconds of Summer have been preforming acoustic versions of Want You Back at radio stations across North America and Europe. The reception to the stripped down version has been incredibly positive and on April 6 they released videos for both an acoustic and remix version of Want You Back.
The acoustic performances of Want You Back also feature Roland & BOSS products. Calum, Luke and Michael are using TU-3 tuners and Ashton is using an SPD::ONE Kick. The SPD::ONE Kick is a single trigger pad loaded with kick drums sounds that can be mounted on a drum kick and hit with drum stick. In addition, the SPD::ONE Kick can be placed on the floor and used as a pedal to allow the percussionist to trigger the sounds with their feet. Ashton is using the yellow SPD::ONE Kick as a trigger pedal and you can see him using it in the SirriusXM performance below.
5SOS III Tour
Now that the 5SOS III tour has started, additional new songs from the upcoming album have been heard by the masses. The sound and direction are more mature and  another step forward in the band’s continual evolution.
Luke, Michael, Calum and Ashton didn’t stop with changing their approach to making music, they also changed things up in regards to touring.
The 5SOS III tour is a four-month tour across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, focusing on intimate venues. They could have easily kicked off another worldwide headlining arena tour but instead decided to “flip the script” and go small when everyone expected them to go big. This approach ensures the best fan experience for their new songs. Performing in smaller venues impacts the amount of equipment used as everything has to be efficient and just as importantly, need to be able to fit on stages that vary in size form night to night.
Here’s a rundown of what Roland & BOSS products 5 Seconds of Summer are taking out on the 5SOS III tour.
Ashton Irwin – Percussion/Vocals
Ashton plays a Gretsch drumkit with DW hardware. The Roland SPD-SX-SE is used to trigger samples and loops. In addition to playing the SPD-SX-SE directly, Ashton utilizes the RT-30K, RT-30HR and RT-30H drum triggers on the Kick and Snare. The drum triggers allow Ashton to either completely replace his acoustic drum sounds with samples on the SPD-SX-SE or he can augment the existing acoustic tone with sounds from the SPD-SX-SE. For example, a kick drum might require extra punch or low end for a single song, the triggers allow an additional sound to be played every time he hits the kick drum, toms or snare.
Michael Clifford – Guitar/Vocals, Luke Hemmings – Guitar/Vocals
Michael and Luke both use the BOSS Waza Amp Cabinets to get their tones on stage. Each of the stacks feature 2 Waza Amp 412 Cabinets which are closed back with four custom 12-inch speakers for a maximum input of 320 watts. Given that each stack can handle up to 640 watts for a total of 1280 watts coming off stage, we are not sure if they will need a PA!
To ensure their guitars are in tune, BOSS TU-3w Chromatic Tuners are used by both Luke and Michael. The TU-3w has the same tuning functions as the TU-3 but includes more refined internal circuity.
Calum Hood – Bass/Vocals/Synth
Calum is utilizing BOSS pedals to sculpt his bass tone. The CEB-3 Bass Chorus is used to fatten up his sound, the ODB-3 Bass Driver is used to add distortion, the BOSS GEB-7 EQ is used to shape the bass sound and the BB-1x Bass Driver adds a rounder and warmer distortion and depth to his bass tone.  Finally, everything is kept in tune using the BOSS TU-3w Chromatic Tuner.
On the previous tour Michael and Luke also performed keys using the RD-800 however for this tour Calum has taken on the keys duties. The Roland SYSTEM-8 is used for deep bass tones and you can hear Calum play the INTEGRA-7 superNATURAL Sound Module piano sound (via MIDI) on the intro to Want You Back when they perform live. The SYSTEM-8 is a PLUG OUT synthesizer which means not only does it generate incredible sounds using the four onboard Oscillators (including a sub oscillator), waveforms and LFOs it also can load PLUG OUT iconic ACB synths like the JUNO-106, JUPITER-8 and more which means you can customize the SYSTEM-8 in anyway you want! You can even use any of the these synths and many more in your favorite DAW by subscribing to the Roland Cloud.
On June 22nd the third album Youngblood will be released and is available for pre-order now. The title track Youngblood is available now to anyone who pre-orders the album. Check out the live video of Youngblood to see all of the Roland and BOSS gear in action from the 5SOS III tour.
To support the album release the first leg three month leg of Meet You There Tour has been announced which will cover the US and Canada starting in August 2018. Roland and BOSS are looking forward to being part of this next chapter.

15 years ago, 'Rock Star: Supernova' rocked reality television

15 years ago, 'Rock Star: Supernova' rocked reality television

Before David Cook became the first rock winner of American Idol or Adam Lambert made TV history with his game-changing, Jeff Buckley-esque “Ring of Fire” cover, there was CBS’s Rock Star: Supernova — a search for the lead singer for a new supergroup comprising Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, and ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke. (Lambert even credited Rock Star: Supernova runner-up Dilana’s “Ring of Fire” performance as an inspiration for his Idol arrangement.)
The Dave Navarro-cohosted talent show, which premiered 15 years ago on July 5, 2006, was an “anti-Idol” of course, featuring covers of songs by Nirvana, the Verve, Hole, Radiohead, the Killers, Dramarama, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., Depeche Mode, the Kinks, Living Colour, Failure, Franz Ferdinand, the Police, Talking Heads, Cheap Trick, Bob Dylan, Soul Asylum, Stone Temple Pilots, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, and even the actual Jeff Buckley — at a time when that was unheard-of on all other singing competitions.
“It was real. It wasn’t like karaoke with somebody up there just singing some dumb s***. It was real music,” Lee tells Yahoo Entertainment. “I really think [Rock Star: Supernova executive producer] Mark Burnett was way ahead of his time in wanting to deliver that kind of thing to prime-time America. Like, ‘Here’s some real s***. These guys are going to look for a singer. They’re going to make a record. They’re going to go on tour.’ … It totally was ahead of its time.”
The blueprint for Rock Star: Supernova was arguably created a year earlier with Rock Star: INXS, a questionable and somewhat distasteful reality show set up by Burnett and the surviving members of Australian pop-rock band INXS to replace late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. (Another future American Idol rock trailblazer, Chris Daughtry, actually unsuccessfully auditioned for that show.) Canadian glam-rocker Lukas Rossi eventually won Rock Star: Supernova after performing his self-penned original power ballad “Headspin” on the finale (which, again, was not typical for reality shows of the era), but he tells Yahoo Entertainment/SiriusXM Volume that when his friend suggested he try out for Burnett’s new Rock Star spinoff, he balked — because initially, Rock Star Season 2 was going to be a search for the replacement singer of another big, established rock group, not for the singer of a brand-new band.
Story continues
“My life seemed pretty grim at that point. I was in Montreal, going from friends’ to friends’ houses and trying to get my band, Rise Electric, off the ground. I was literally in minus-40-degree weather, living in an abandoned bowling alley and covering myself up with newspaper just to keep warm. I got a call out of the blue from a friend of mine, [EMI Music Publishing executive] Barb Sedun, and she was like, ‘Hey, there’s this show and they’re looking for a singer.’ And she mentioned another band. I was like, ‘I can’t replace that singer! That’s just not right!’ … It was Van Halen — that’s what she said to me. And I was like, ‘Absolutely not. I don’t want to pretend to be their new singer.’ I mean, I love Van Halen, but that’s just not my persona. I’d be lying to the fans and their fans and to myself.”
Rossi was homeless and destitute after leaving his home base of Toronto following a breakup with a cheating girlfriend, and he had focused all his energy on the fledgling Rise Electric. “I put all my eggs into one basket, because I’m a firm believer. My daddy used to say, ‘Whaddya got for plan B, after all this music s***?’ And I’m like, ‘If you need a plan B, that means your plan A is pretty s***ty, dude.’ So, I didn’t have a plan B. Or a plan C.” Still, Rossi admits that he was tempted to try out for what he believed was going to be Rock Star: Van Halen. “It was a hard freakin’ pill to swallow, because I was frickin’ broke, dude. I had nothing.”
However, a week later Sedun phoned Rossi again to let him know that Rock Star had changed direction, and its second season would instead center on a new hard-rock supergroup featuring A-list musicians, with superstar producer Butch Walker set to record their album. “I was like, ‘Hell yeah, dude! That’s what I was like!’” When Rossi had no way of affording a trip to the nearest audition city, Vancouver, Canada, Sedun footed the bill. “She’s like, ‘I’ll pay for you to get there. Just go and kick ass. I know you can do this. I believe in you.’ I packed up my backpack — I had all my belongings in a backpack — and I went there, terrified.”
Rossi confesses that he “drank a few too many pints” before he tried out with “Headspin” (which he’d written just a week earlier) and Live’s “Lightning Crashes,” and he initially thought he’d ruined his chances. “I was so nervous. I walk in, and there’s this dark room. It’s like really weird, like this little stage lit up with one light and the rest is this empty theater,” he recalls. “And then halfway through that I hear, ‘Why are you sweating so much?’ I was like, ‘Who said that?’ I’m looking around, and then I see Jason Newsted through the darkness. And I said, ‘Oh, hey, dude. I just had a couple of pints and it’s hot as s*** in here. That light above me is hot, dude!’”
Apparently the skunk-haired Rossi’s rock ‘n’ roll attitude — which likely would not have impressed the stuffier powers-that-be on, say, Idol or America’s Got Talent in 2006 — was an asset on Rock Star: Supernova. “There was a chuckle in the darkness,” Rossi remembers. Moments after he left that audition and started walking down the street with his guitar case in hand, a casting agent from the show chased him down and invited him to return the next day. And even later, when Rossi got on the show and botched his live, televised performance of Hole’s “Celebrity Skin” — when his “brain took a big dookie” and he forgot the words — that rawness and authenticity worked in his favor. “When you take your life too seriously, man, that only goes so far. That’s, like, a real person. [Rock musicians] trip over things once in a while. We do things wrong. You have to be yourself,” Rossi shrugs.
Unfortunately, the Rossi-fronted band that formed after the show’s finale was not nearly as successful as the show itself. First, there was a branding issue when the new group, which was supposed to be called Supernova, had to officially change its name to the clunkier Rock Star Supernova (minus the TV series title’s colon), after an established Orange County pop-punk trio named Supernova sued and was granted an injunction. (One key piece of evidence was a Myspace message from Butch Walker noting that Burnett Productions, CBS, Lee, Newsted, and Clarke had been informed that another Supernova already existed, but they had proceeded anyway.)
The hastily renamed Rock Star Supernova’s surprisingly solid, Walker-produced self-titled album, which included “Headspin” as a single and featured Rossi’s writing credits on four other cuts, debuted at No. 4 in Rossi’s native Canada, where it eventually went platinum. (Check out two circa-2006 performances by the band at Yahoo’s studio below.) But in the U.S., the album stalled at No. 101 on the Billboard 200 and received virtually no radio airplay. It was likely that the reality-television stigma hurt Rock Star Supernova’s chances of being taken seriously in the hard rock world, despite the project’s A-list pedigree.
“I think a lot of people think it’s baggage, like it is not ‘authentic’ or whatever, like it’s the ‘Hollywood TV version’ of something,” Walker, who also appeared as a guest judge on the show, tells Yahoo Entertainment/SiriusXM Volume. “But that being said, I mean, that’s what people sign up for when they watch.”
“We toured everywhere, all the way to Australia and back, but I’m a firm believer that timing is everything, you know?” muses Rossi. “And honestly, I don’t know, because I went out there every single night and gave it my all, dude. Me and Tommy were hungry, but maybe the rest of them — I’m not gonna mention people — but maybe somebody wanted Dilana to win instead of me. We’ll just leave it at that.”
Dilana, who toured as Rock Star Supernova’s opening act in 2007, was actually happy and relieved to place second on the show, as she ultimately didn’t think she was the right fit for the supergroup’s music. “I wanted to get as far as I could, but after I heard their first original, I was kind of bummed,” she confesses to Yahoo Entertainment. “That was exactly when I knew: ‘I don’t want to be the singer in this band.’ I’m not dissing them — I mean, they’re great songs, and Butch Walker is a fantastic, amazing, creative artist — but they’re just not me. They picked me to be the first [contestant] to sing an original on the show, and it was a challenge for me. After that, I knew there was no way I would be in this band, singing this material. And I made the mistake by actually informing some people about it the night before the finale.
“Someone posed the question, ‘What are you going to say [if you win]? What’s your little speech going to be?’ And, I said, ‘Well, if I win it, I’m going to decline it,’” Dilana continues. “Everyone knew it was either Lukas or I, so I said, ‘Lukas, you’re going to get it.’ And I think they were videotaping us at that point. So, I have a sneaky suspicion that somehow the producers got word to the band, and maybe they decided to make sure that I didn’t get picked. … Maybe they told the band and the band was like, ‘We’re not going to get humiliated like that.’ But, maybe the TV people were like, ‘Oh, this would be great television!’ Who knows what happened? But everyone also knew that Lukas was definitely Tommy’s favorite from day one, so it worked out perfectly for me. I didn’t have to embarrass anybody, I didn’t have to get kind of nervous if I had won, and I got exactly what I wanted. I wanted the exposure, and that’s what I got.”
“There was a lot of people involved. There were a lot of cooks in the kitchen. Everybody had their own manager. I mean, you can just see how that’s going to go,” sighs Walker. “There were a lot of people trying to get squeezed through the same rathole with all of their ideas. But they were all great people. I really enjoyed the experience, and Mark Burnett is awesome.”
Rossi was disappointed when Rock Star Supernova lasted only one album/touring cycle, but like Dilana, he used the exposure to further his solo career, and he and Lee remain buddies to this day. (“He’s the best dude. He’s like my tall, skinny daddy. I love that dude,” Rossi gushes.) Most recently, Rossi sang two tracks on Lee’s 2020 solo album Andro, the original “You Dancy” and a cover of Prince’s “When You Were Mine.” And Rock Star: Supernova changed Rossi’s life in a more important and lasting way: Shortly after the show, Lee and Navarro fixed him up with their friend, former adult film actress Kendra Jade. “We met up at Barney’s Beanery and literally spent the next two whole weeks in bed. It was mental,” Rossi laughingly recalls of their first date. Lukas and Kendra eloped in 2007; adopted a son, Bryden, in 2015; and now happily reside in Nashville.
“The music was secondary [to the Rock Star: Supernova experience]. Everybody I’ve met through that whole journey was so awesome,” Rossi adds. “Like I was telling you, I was on the street, I had nothing, and all of a sudden I get thrown into meeting all these wonderful people. … We were all there to do what we love most. Plus, we got to have free drinks and be on television and make a bunch of wonderful, wonderful fans. I mean, God, it was the best time of my life.”

“That’s all it ever was to be — it was a great experience,” says Lee. Rossi does wish that Burnett had continued focusing on rock ‘n’ roll reality shows instead of moving on to the more mainstream and less rockin’ NBC show The Voice (“Why? That’s like McDonald’s cutting off their Big Macs,” he quips), but Lee does believe that Rock Star: Supernova changed music television 15 years ago, attesting: “I think it paved the way for a lot of the shows that are here today, definitely.”

EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER - LOVE BEACH (1978): 4/10
Yeah! How do you like that album cover? What the hell happened? Okay, time for a little history lesson. Remember how the band used an orchestra on the previous two albums? Well, one day Keith said to the other guys: “Hey, wouldn’t it be a great idea if we took an orchestra with us on our next tour?” And… well, to be honest, it actually was a great idea. Artistically, at least. Backing up the old and the new ELP hits with orchestral arrangements resulted in some outstanding performances that were captured on the live album Works Live, which I heartily recommend to anyone who's interested in the band. Financially however, this was a really bad move. Paying the musicians and transporting their equipment was such a financial strain that the band would inevitably lose money unless they sold every last seat at every venue. And they didn’t succeed at that because the popularity of progressive rock as a whole took a nosedive in the late seventies. The genre's emphasis on complex rhythms and structures, esoteric concepts and instrumental virtuosity became more and more associated with snobbish elitism and was rejected by the new generation, which instead flocked to the more approachable, raw and rocking sound of punk rock bands such as the Sex Pistols, who regularly mocked progressive rock bands as part of their performances, with their famous “I hate Pink Floyd” t-shirts, and their burning of Yes and ELP records on stage. In addition, the music industry itself changed around this time and became far less receptive towards experimental music than it had been throughout the decade.
So, to make a long story short, ELP were in a bad spot in 1978, and were further plagued by deteriorating personal relations between the band members, as well as conflicts with the record company which demanded a hot-selling record. Love Beach was made in a desperate attempt to reach out to a new audience: it’s made up primarily of a bunch of lightweight pop songs but also throws in a few progressive-sounding tunes to please their old audience. The result, predictably, pleased no one at all and made ELP the laughing stock of the music world. Even the band members themselves have frequently mocked it. What else could they do? This album is just too easy to mock. Just look at it! Even the liner notes hardly say anything about the music and mostly just talk about how much fun the band had on the Bahamas, where the album was recorded.
I mean, you can tell that there are some creative problems when a singer has trouble trying to make the third line on an album fit within the meter. At the same time, Keith changes his synthesizer tones from otherwordly and ominous to sickly sweet and sappy, and Carl plays an awkward drumming part that never seems to get off the ground. And despite all of that, I still have to count “All I Want Is You” among the better songs on here, because it shows at least a wee bit of classical influence and of the old production style (and to be fair, this is hardly worse than Greg’s pop stuff on Works, Volume 1).
However, things very rapidly go off the deep end with the title track and “Taste Of My Love”, which are basically guitar-led cock rock anthems that have Greg singing oversexed smut that would make even Gene Simmons blush with embarrassment (Oh, I almost forgot: all of the lyrics on this album were written by Peter Sinfield, who originally rose to fame by supplying King Crimson with his hallucinatory texts about 21st century schizoid men and rusted chains of prison moons, and who just five years earlier thought up the apocalyptic machine warfare themes for Brain Salad Surgery. Now he writes such lovely slices of poetry like “I’m gonna love you like nobody ever loved you; Climb on my rocket and we’ll fly”). Anyway, these songs are far too tame instrumentation-wise to appeal to the general sleaze-rock crowd, and far too simplistic to not infuriate anyone expecting to hear the ELP of old: Keith’s synthesizer parts feel like they were added to these tracks more out of obligation rather than because they actually contributed something of substance to the music.
“The Gambler” goes for a comedic mood again, but really overstays its welcome with its generic female backing vocals as well as some shitty ukelele and some equally shitty harmonica to spice up the pill. Oh well, at least it has some funny keyboard playing. And "For You" ... well, that one's actually alright. Unlike the rest of the album, it's more melancholic and reflective than sappy and jolly, and it has some nice echoey guitar playing, too. I couldn't care less about the "rocking" coda though (in quotes because it just sounds kind of torpid).
In contrast to the first side of the LP, the second side holds tracks that are basically bones thrown toward the band's traditional audience. The first track on here, "Canario", is also not bad. It's another classical cover (of a piece by Joaquín Rodrigo) that still sounds overly sweet and kinda cheesy but at least it has some dang energy which is sorely missing on the rest of the album, particularly on the next track, where things get really murky when the boys try to pen one more epic multi-part suite in the old prog style, called “Memoirs Of An Officer And A Gentlemen”. Don’t expect another “Tarkus” here: this whole suite is just a big toss-off. Almost the whole thing is in the same key and the same plodding tempo, and it sticks to the same disgustingly cheerful atmosphere that dominates the rest of the album. Furthermore, the lyrics try to sound really grandiose and world-shattering but, when taking the utterly banal subject matter into account (a soldier falls in love with a nurse but oh no she died the end), just come off as pathetic. But worst of all, Keith's keyboard playing feels completely sterile and forced throughout the whole thing, and there's no impressive synth solo to hear for miles around. The final movement, "Honourable Company", is a gradually intensifying march that's obviously intended as a rewrite of "Aquatarkus", but it has no climax and just ends up sounding like really bad theme park music (I apologize if I overuse this analogy in my reviews but I really can't think of a better thing to compare it to. Do you remember waiting in line for an Indiana Jones ride and hearing some super-cheesy tune for the grand, magical adventure you're about to go on? Yeah, that's the one ). Not even the gratuitous Chopin quotations help bring the suite to life or anything resembling life.
Oh, I'm sorry. I must come across as angry right now, but honestly, the spectacular stupidity of this album makes it impossible to actually hate or get angered by. The incompatibility of Emerson, Lake & Palmer with their newly created popstar image, combined with the unconvincing manner in which they pursued this new direction, makes Love Beach one of the most hilariously ham-fisted and ill-conceived products in the history of mainstream rock music. So just don’t take it too seriously. Don’t look for quality here. Just let the stupid sink in and have a blast.
Allmusic's original review of this album consisted of just one sentence which read: "A record that ELP released only because they owed it to their original label, and that's all one needs to know." I suppose it’s a mystery whether the band just wanted to make a few dollars and please Atlantic Records or if they actually wanted to make a turn in this direction, but in any case, the album flopped both commercially and critically. Now reviled by their former fans and belittled by their enemies, the trio finally called it quits and went their separate ways.
Best song: eh, I guess it's probably CANARIO

Naomi Watts's surprising connection to new 'Sports Illustrated' swimsuit cover

The new Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue has launched model newbie Danielle Herrington into the stratosphere. Obviously, her good looks made this shot cover material, but she couldn’t have done it — literally — without professional photographer Ben Watts, who took the photo.

Watts is an acclaimed photographer — more on that in a minute — but he is also the older brother of actress Naomi Watts. Yes, the Oscar nominee. The siblings were born in London — their dad was Peter Watts, road manager for Pink Floyd — before moving to Australia. We know what Naomi went on to do; Ben attended Sydney College of Arts and became a photographer’s assistant. He soon started shooting for Australian Vogue, among other publications. He later moved to N.Y.C. — like his sis — and has shot advertising campaigns for major companies, such as Apple and Polo Ralph Lauren. He has also shot a slew of cover pics for celebrities — ranging from his sister, of course, to Hugh Jackman, who has used him many times, as well as Chris Hemsworth, Ashley Graham, Henry Cavill, and Fergie, to name just a few.
Watts celebrated the new SI swimsuit cover on Tuesday by sharing some behind-the-scenes shots from his time with Herrington on Harbour Island, Bahamas, where the shoot took place, as well offering his congratulations. She’s clearly the new “it” girl, earning kudos for the cover from everyone from Tyra Banks to Kate Upton.

For the record, this isn’t Watts’s first SI swimsuit cover. He was also the man behind Hannah Jeter’s super racy photo in 2015. You remember — her bikini bottoms were pulled down so low that we were educated about her waxing preference, and stories like What Does the Sports Illustrated Cover Teach Our Kids? were plentiful.

Watts clearly has a good touch with swimsuit models — he’s also worked with Victoria’s Secret ladies too — but celebrities love him too. Last month, some of Watts’s archival photos of the late Heath Ledger were well loved across the internet when Naomi and others shared them around the 10-year anniversary of the actor’s death. (Naomi dated Heath.)
Thinking about this beautiful soul today. 10 years ago he left this world. He was a true original. Heart always on his sleeve, with the most powerful charisma, strength, humor and talent. I will never forget his gentle spirit. ❤️ #heathledger @wattsupphoto
