Ok so tonight I wanna talk about pre-canon David. I am in just about EVERYTHING I am into I fixate a lot on pre-canon and Legion raises more questions than most.

Specifically a lot of the early episodes in season 1 deal with the Summerland team trying to get an idea of who David is and solve the mystery of his corrupted memories around the Dr.Poole incident. Division 3 end up derailing this investigation along with the discovery of the Shadow King's presence. As soon as they find Farouk, they stop looking into it, but they never really find out what happened.

Ultimately two versions of what happened are put together.

In one, the one David remembers, he started seeing Dr.Poole and initially things were going well. Then he met Lenny, got into drugs, and robbed him in a moment of moral weakness.

The other one more supported by the evidence they find is that yes David started seeing Dr.Poole and things were going well before he got into the blue vapors with Benny after which he stopped being so easy to work with. But the idea of robbing him, if there even was one, was not what made him break in. During a discussion after Poole asked "What do the stars say?" He answered something which revealed something important. After that, Poole noticed David began to act differently. He increased their sessions and started being open and curious again. Then David broke in to Poole's office to destroy the incriminating tapes and beat Dr.Poole so badly they had to put him into a medically induced coma.

Given we never hear of David going to jail, I'm guessing Poole either didn't want to press charges when he woke up out of sympathy for his patient OR David's parents paid him off (the idea that the Hallers have a significant amount of money is reoccuring to me but more on that in another post) OR David "persuaded" him to forget about the whole thing.

The Summerland team probably assume that what David said revealed the presence of the Shadow King who then took control, covered his tracks, and made sure Poole wouldn't be involved with David anymore. This tracks with Lenny being there over Benny in the memory as well as the way we know Shadow!David to act as in his scene with Amy, calm and seemingly easygoing compared with the way David usually is.

But what if Ptonomy's initial assessment is right? "The guy's a bomb". The third option for this story is that Farouk didn't play a role at all in this, nor did drugs. David revealed something he was hiding (and David hides a lot, including his alters) and went back to destroy the evidence and injured Dr.Poole for getting in his way and then editing his own memory to absolve himself.

Which brings us to another concept; the David we meet in episode 1 is not who he was pre-canon. This is evidenced by the alters telling him that the idea that he is "a good person (who) deserve(s) love" is a delusion born the moment he saw Syd. He wanted to be with her and so he tried to become the kind of person who could have what he wanted to have with her. Not the kind of person who would beat the shit out of his therapist. But maybe he was. After all, even without the Shadow King, David is plenty capable of that kind of rage and violence. In the pilot alone he stabbed Clark with a pen and lit him on fire, very much on purpose. Ptonomy tried to warn Syd that she really didn't know David very well, and from his track record maybe hes not the safest person to be around. I'm not sure if I believe that David really did all that without Farouk's influence but I do believe that he's capable of it and I wish Noah Hawley had brought that back up again later especially in season 3. I kinda wish we were able to find out ultimately what the stars said.

the main event of course is tennis ball and nickel’s excellent adventure. if i had a nickel for every time a random donut line from bfb was justified by bfdia i would have two nickels: past nickel and future nickel. its nickel’s fault gaty got eliminated btw he lured that bug up there. he also caused all of tpot 15 by kicking the yoylite into the future so THANKS BUDDY

overall very funny episode! as much as i hate to say it i think needle is going to go here, she was very close to elimination last time and she also didn’t really have much to do this time. nickel is also a solid possibility due to him destabilizing the fabric of spacetime, which sources tell me is not a very “cash money” thing to do

Listen,I don’t have much to say about the newest LO episode so here’s an ares ranking to go along with the other ones.

Spoilers.

Percy Jackson:

Look,Ares is a really weird figure when it comes to how the media presents him.

Almost always they present him as this sexist frat boy when in mythology he is:

A reported protector of mistreated woman.

The patron god of the amazons and was worshipped to the point that their leader had 2 babies with him.

Scored the GODDESS PF LOVE AND BEAUTY and there is no way you cannot convince me she doesn’t have some pretty high standards(even though apparently you can convince most of the writers on this list)

And as much as I love Percy Jackson,it is not devoid of crimes.

In the first book,he helps Luke/Kronos steal Zeus’ master bolt and Hades’ helm of invisibility as to start a civil war within the gods.id say this is a pretty good portrayal overall.

…until we get to the second book.

This myth will be very important so long story short:a daughter of ares got r*** by a son of Poseidon so Ares,like any reasonable and bloodthirsty god of war,fucking killed him.

After this,he got put on trial for murder as if he wasn’t the literal god of bloody war,and all the ladies vouched for him so he got set free.

Let’s just say,Rick Riordan didn’t know of this myth.

In the second book,there’s a scene where Clarisse La Rue,a DAUGHTER of ares talks to him through a magic mirror.

There,he threatens her and says he should have sent one of his sons on the quest.and keep in mind she is his FAVORITE DAUGHTER.

So yeah.

I don’t really like this portrayal but he gets points for bringing Clarisse and (technically)Frank into this world since I like them both.also the fact that Percy could tell he had beef with him even without having any other memory.

Also the fact Athena didn’t directly refute any of his points but instead persuaded him with the fact that the moment Ody gets home the suitors are going to be fucked is surprisingly great.

Also can I just say how absolutely hyped I am for god games?Aphrodite’s part fucking rocks and I’m excited for Apollo and Hephaestus.

(Events of BTD 1 happen with Ren and Strade but Ren was kidnapped at 19 and decided to escape at 21, still dealing with a bit of stockholm syndrome he never actually goes to police after.)

After escaping Strade and building himself back up Ren ends up paying a prostitute to fuck during his heat. And because of this it caused an accidental pregnancy she didnt want. She wanted nothing to do with the baby but she also couldn't afford to get rid of it. Instead she just waited it out and after having Yoki she tracked down Ren and gave Yoki to him. Ren took full custody of her and Yoki's mom hasnt been seen since. Ren named Yoki (full name Yokino) and raised her all by himself even thoughit was a bit of a struggle. Ren allowed Yoki to be more free and give into her animalistic instincts more which also caused her to be much more animalistic then Ren. Aka being more feral and getting triggered much easier around like blood or food (especially when hungry). As a young child she really liked meat of course, especially rabbit. Due to Ren taking her out into the woods sometimes and allowing her to hunt she enjoyed bringing back a fresh kill with her bare hands (even when being young she was still able to do it). He doesnt mind Yoki hunting on her own, actually enjoys it and is happy it makes her happy. As long as she doesn't come back home covered in blood or brings the dead animal she killed on the porch he doesnt care. Hes proud of his little girl. At a young age Yoki was introduced to Rens jobs but she didnt really care. Since she basically grew up with it even as a baby its sorta just a thing she knows about and Ren does. They are animals afterall. They have to give into their instincts at some point. Over time Ren started disposing of his 'stars' a different way by giving them to his private chef and asking them to cook it. It helped dispose of bodies easier and quicker all while having a good meal after. Because of this Yoki developed a taste for human flesh. Now she can't go a week without having her favorite meal, human heart. From rabbit hearts to human hearts. Yoki absolutely loves shopping and spending daddys money. Like once a week she gets his black card and goes shopping. Ren doesnt mind though since at this point hes pretty loaded. Plus he loves making his little girl happy. Ren and yoki have probably the most healthiest relationship out of all 3 kids. Ren has raised her well and the best way he can all while giving her a comfortable happy life.

As a young child yoki was often bullied in school for being a freak since beastkin are rare to find. It wasnt until around highschool she started to gain popularity due to her getting popular online. Shes your average tiktok and Instagram girly and being the daughter of a rich guy everyone wanted to be her friend after that. During middle school though she did make a few friends (and a few enemies) but nothing to serious. Basil was her number one friend all the way though just because of how well they bonded together (or well she bonded with basil). She saw him as a close friend and even better a brother to her. And with Hanz. Well he was the little prick. He was the main person that targeted both Yoki and Basil, picking on them and even going so far as to pull on Yoki's tail. Then one day he hust stopped and started staying to himself. Nobody knows what happened to Hanz during that and he never said what happened. Yoki alway knew Ren had scars but never knew what caused them. After learning some information from Hanz when they were older she gets help from one of Rens men to get on the web and check out of what she heard was true, and after snooping around on Strades account she finds out why Ren is that way. And due to this she gets in a small fight with Hanz but they end up settling it out. Yoki and Hanz are sorta a thing when older? But not? Its nothing serious. Mainly because Ren doesnt accept or like it at all. If he could he'd kill Hanz and Strade. He wants nothing to do with strade whatsoever even though Hanz did nothing wrong. Ren found out about Hanz and Strade during a parent teacher conference. Ren knew about Hanz before because Yoki would complain he would pick on her but after finding out it was strades kid he seemed to hate them both even more. Ren would have pulled yoki out of school if it wasnt for it being the only decent school around and plus he wanted Yoki to interact with other children. He couldnt just take that from her and hide her away. So he just protected her from afar. Ren wants nothing to do with Strade and as long as he doesn't bother him or Yoki he doesnt care. Strade likes the thought of fucking with Ren even if hes not doing anything. He could just sit back and relax as Hanz does all the work for him.

Yoki does know a bit of Japanese from Ren and Ren taught her a bit about their culture (trying to remember what his mother taught him). After getting older she could maybe only remember a few things but not everything.

while typing this out i have another question, which of the dreamers are still alive in your AU, and what are their relationships with fpk, if any? since holly is alive id assume you branched off of the embrace the void ending, and i dont believe you need to kill any dreamers for that end (if I'm wrong, do correct me!), and quirrel in your AU doesn't have monomons mask, so i can only assume ghost at least got to her.

it was... not the best, admittedly. granted, they weren't hostile towards each other, i actually think that herrah warmed up to him a little bit, mostly seeing how attached he got to hornet. they certainly had a common reason to bond over, the problem is that fpk was afraid of her. among his species, it's quite common for the larger female to kill and eat the male after mating, so it's coded in his brain to expect that possibility. with wl, it was a bit different - she's more plant-like, and so her behavior is very different to that of a wyrm, or any other carnivorous species, and that comforts his mind a little bit. but with herrah, he sadly couldn't have that assurance, so he was very stressed out about it and expecting the worst

their affair was part of a bargain, so he knew it was his obligation to fullfil his side, but he was terrified throughout all of it. on top of that, since he's gay in the au, he had another reason not to enjoy it very much, though he didn't realize at the time. so all in all, it was a very unpleasant experience, and it greatly impacted his perception of herrah. i do think he have liked for it to be different, after all, she was hornet's mother and i'm sure he would love to have a more pleasant relationship with her, if only for the sake of their daughter. but his fear was too strong and so he rarely visited deepnest aside from seeing hornet (probably for the better since deepnest wasn't particularly fond of him. too bright of a light, for one haha)

as for grimm, you said herrah, but judging by the rest of that sentence i'm assuming you meant hornet, so just in case i'll go over both. i don't think he interacted with herrah much, perhaps he knew her before the whole bargain deal, but nothing more than just being aware of her existence. and with hornet, like you said, she's basically his daughter now and he most certainly sees her as such. definitely more than wl did, but her being emotionally distant is basically a given - she didn't dislike hornet but to call their relationship a mother-daughter one would be an exaggeration. grimm, however, absolutely sees her as his own child. he did that even before him and fpk became a thing - he always liked to imagine himself and fpk raising her together, but since it wasn't meant to be at the time, he instead brought her gifts and entertained her with his powers whenever he visited. these days it's a tad more complicated with hornet's refusal to admit that she sees him as a father figure and her overall bitterness, but his attitude hasn't changed at all. of course, he doesn't pamper her with gifts anymore, but he enjoys spending time with her and bonding over shared interests. their relationship is fun, they have the generally laid back, joking type dynamic of close friends, but it's clear that grimm does thinks of her as his child, meanwhile hornet seems to get upset at that idea, but secretly really cares about him

the dreamers are something i thought about before and i'm considering leaving one of them alive, since i think they're interesting characters and i'd love to explore at least one of them post-ending. as you said, monomon is a goner, and so is herrah, as hornet in the au finds there to be no reason to visit deepnest unless she has to, so it's a natural assumption that her mother is dead. that leaves lurien, and with the city of tears slowly returning to its prime over the course of the au, he would be a pretty good fit for an important figure that watches over its development. but i haven't decided yet. if i choose to keep him dead, then i think it would be a fun idea for his butler to be "promoted" to lurien's previous role, since he was his most trusted bug. we'll see, i like both of those options, and i'll have to see what i decide on

Now, I maybe misremembering bc I haven’t watched nart in years, but thinking back on it it’s crazy how little Sakura mattered to team 7s overall dynamic. It makes me so mad bc this team should be like a family but she was barely even friends with sasuke pre shippuden.

she is literally Never friends with sasuke ToT they get MARRIED and i still find it hard to believe he even likes being around her. i genuinely cannot remember a SINGLE one-on-one interaction she has with sasuke that can't be effectively described as "sakura is in love with him and he doesn't give a shit". gen the closest we get to that is after his fight with naruto when he apologizes to her for being such an asshole and she tells him that he should be sorry. THAT WAS EPIC. but anyways he def does care about her in the sense of "she is part of team 7 and i don't want her to die", but he doesn't consider her a friend. kakashi cares about her, but even though he trains one on one with both naruto And sasuke and teaches them both important skills that become staples of their fighting styles, he never does this with sakura, and she ends up training mostly under tsunade instead once team 7 dissolves for the 2.5 year naruto is off with jiraiya (i do like that she trained under tsunade and i like the stuff she learned (also because i love tsunade <33) but it def does emphasize how she just for some reason does not get solo lessons from kakashi)

i will defend her friendship with naruto though because those two def are like real actual friends and i think they're very cute, i love their interactions in shippuden especially during the arc where sai first joins them when theyre both grappling with sasuke being replaced, its just just suchhh a good display of how close they are and how much they love each other and how they rly are in this thing together. but ofc that said, esp because their best interactions are all in shippuden where team 7 is more or less dissolved, this doesnt really like. make her feel like a big part of team 7 bc as soon as sasuke is there naruto kind of forgets she exists mostly. so her contribution to the overall dynamic like you said is not really saved by the fact that naruto considers her a close friend.

whats especially frustrating is at the very start of the series, she's BETTER at controlling her chakra than naruto and sasuke. she immediately aces the walk-up-a-tree assignment, kakashi comments on her cleverness, etc, but as soon as the action starts she gets sidelined, Every Time. she spends half the battles they have as a team either 1) immediately incapacitated or 2) in the back guarding someone/something so that she can't be part of the actual combat. i did ofc ofc love love love the final scene in the fight vs kaguya when she joins naruto and sasuke in landing the final blow and kakashi is watching from the sidelines thinking about how much he loves them, oohouuh he loves them .. but ofc she'd been sidelined the whole battle with a feeew epic moments here and there so it did sort of feel like ok ladies ill throw you a bone. she can do one (1) punch ^_^ then she's getting ditched again though while naruto and sasuke collaborate on the most heartwrenching scenes of the entire series.

it rly is because kishimoto refused to define her character beyond having a crush on sasuke whenever they're on screen at the same time so her ability to contribute to the team dynamic was rly hurt. kakashi and sasuke SAYING that they care about her is great etc but i really wish they'dve SHOWED it more beyond having to protect her when she inevitably gets taken out faster than anybody else. this is why ep 101 (kakashi's mask ep) will always be famous

something i just realised is how UN-FUN mileven fans are. Like imagine being giddy about that mid ass kiss at the end of s3 (THE moment that made me give up on Stranger Things overall let alone just mileven lmao)

Like... where's the fun? Mike and El had a shit time at the rink even before it all went down. You see defences of awkward teenagers, and yeah... but that can be fun as hell. Look at all the humour with Lucas and Max in s3. Mike and El are just... awkward awkward.

But byler... it's cheeky, it's cute, it's giddy, plus there's so much chemistry of so many kinds, especially the 'I don't want to feel this way but you make me' kind, which changed for Will in s4 but is still strong for Mike, well into s5 I suspect. I think there's going to be a blowout where mike shout-fights something along the lines of 'you think i want this? you think i want to feel this?' and will doesnt seem to mind pushing mike around too, always poking and prodding him, i can see him crying trying to bash mike in the chest and bat him away but mike is just holding him and they eventually collapse into a hug.

and yeah, that elephant in the room that most people here don't wanna say cos it's a very queer-forward fandom, but byler is a little taboo as well, forbidden, 'shocking' as noah said. it being 2025 doesnt change that, cos this IS a period piece. and byler is shocking for the 80s. ofc theyre not gonna walk around hawkins hand in hand, but why is that the only happy ending people use as an example? them running away together to a big city is perfect and yeah, very exciting.

but yeah. milevens are boring ass. i always feel tempted to fight them then remember that damn... they are probably the world's most boring people irl. like the kind of people who genuinely laugh for 5 minutes at the world's shittest joke or say things like 'I know, I'm just sooo kooky' because they're wearing a polka dot scarf or some shit. the kind of people that if you meet them at a party you feel like you have to leave soon otherwise they'll sap the ever-loving life out of you. like a drain. people are radiators and drains and milevens are drains lol.

I've pointed it out before - I don't know that I've ever seen Mileven analysis. What do they even want for these characters other than married at 17 and pregnant soon after? WHAT do they even want to happen in the show? I see Byler fans talk constantly about El's show arc and what her plot will be. I have my entire own El storyline about her being on the run from the govt. while working with Lucas to find a way to save Max while taking her independence back by overcoming her trauma by saving the kids that the military has stolen to experiment on as a means of breaking the cycle and choosing to act as a savior rather than through violence I guess (or something - based on very vague theories and ideas and how I'd personally like to see her character arc be handled). What... do Mileven fans want other than "well she's gonna take down Vecna and Mike will be there cheering her on and he's gonna propose" BUT WHAT ELSE WE HAVE EIGHT EPISODES AND OVER A DOZEN HOURS OF TELEVISION TO FILL??? Byler fans if asked can draft their own vision for the entire season 5 script of the show.

How is being a Mileven fan even that fun?? How do they spend their time, because clearly they're not creating things? It's all bland social media comments and bullying.

Taiya <--> Sakito

Sakito serves as some of the main driving forces of the au. He's overall mostly unchanged from his OG counterpart. it's just that a lot of his more vocal traits about him tend to come off a little bit more amplified. He's the one sabotaging a wedding. he's the one leading the fight against the Hashiiliens when they land on earth (at first). He also is, just a tad bit more reckless than normal (again, he did sabotage a political wedding)

Taiya ends up being just a bit more lowkey. His want to help, though, namely helping children, and their screams are very much still present, but he does a lot to withhold his true feelings and come off much more calmer to everyone else (much more than in the main show). Roleswap Taiya is a lot more of a reclusive person, and spends a lotnof the early moments before he shows up officially working on the various boonboom cars and serving more as a guy in the chair than actually going out there.

Ishiro <--> Jou

A running theme with this 'roleswap' is that their 'roles' aren't that different. Taiya and Sakito are still Deliveryman and Cleaner respectively, Mira's focus is driving, and while he isn't as smooth with it compared to his og, Genbas still procurment All this to say that Even though Chasshiro isn't a spy, and rather a freelance security guard (who happens to mainly stay as an aquarium guard), his postion of keeping an eye on people and having connections remains as an Informant. He plays a lot of things EXTREMELY seriously because he loves the job, but he's always had a hard time connecting with others ironically enough. It was a run-in with Taiya that allowed him to open up and is one to relay information back to him.

Jou's kind-hearted nature and desire to help people is still at full display here, its just that rather than being a rookie policeman, hes a rookie freelance agent. It definitely doesnt make him any less of a threat, but it does mean a lot of people undermine him and his abilities at times,

Mira <--> Genba

Probably the two most radical swaps, Mira's workaholic grind mindset allows her to have the right skill for the job, and most of the times one of the skills she puts to use the most is her driving ability. In turn however, shes being pulled around to all these jobs with no real goal in mind, meaning she doesnt have as strong of a grip on her wheel as her OG counterpart. This conflict only rises when shes sent by the ISA to keep track of Sakito for wherabouts on the missing prince of Planet Bureki.

Genba very much starts out the AU in an arranged marrage that is supposedly to make peace with the Hashiiliens only for him to be taken by a half-drink Sakito. Needless to say his crash landing to earth is very much different in a lot of ways. Hes much more reclusive than elusive and when disrace shows up his reactions are much more paranoia than blind rage. Genba's just a tad bit more clumsy in this iteration, but it does mean he develops a stronger sense of self and a better grasp of his own wheel than his og self did. Granted. He doesnt know what happeend to his planet after he left. So that might have something to do with it to some degree

She was immediately amazed by you, first of all you look so cool! Second of all you were very...uh.. bright.

She immediately ran up to you asking for your name.

You were immediately enamored with the cute child and decided that you would surprise adopt her.

When you two get closer:

No but seriously whenever she blows up fish in the lake you would just encourage her. Basically you stand beside the lake and laugh brightly while she blasts fish into oblivion.

Each time she sees you she always runs towards you expecting hugs!

She also loves playing with you whenever you can, mostly it involves fish blasting or searching for flowers.

She loves it when you braid her hair, especially when the two of you take a picnic and she makes a flower crown.

She really loves listening to you talking about all your fight stories, she will boast about you to the other knights about how cool and strong you are.

Whenever you two get something to eat and you yell “UMAI” in the beginning she is kinda shocked but soon after she joins in.

Whenever she eats anything and it tastes good she yells “UMAI” it has become a habit for her. The first time she did it people looked at her scared but she just kept going.

She likes to take picnics with you and Ganyu, it gives her this unfamiliar but happy feeling of family!

Qiqi is lowkey a matchmaker for you and Ganyu, she makes the two of you hold hands and while Ganyu lowkey dies with a red face your laugh is as bright as the sun.

chapter 6

Sydney was sitting on a plane, her frame positioned awkwardly in the first class seat. She never knew whether it was classier to act as if it was a completely normal place for her to be, or if she should soak up the luxury. In between Monaco and Baku she was being flown to London to do an interview and photoshoot for a French magazine. Looking over at Daisy, she felt a rush of gratitude for the woman, madly typing away at her laptop like she usually did. Sydney had on a pair of fleece shorts and couldn't stop herself from picking at the drawstring, hardly focusing on the movie playing in front of her. This would be the first photoshoot she'd ever done out of her racing overalls, and she was, quite frankly, shitting herself. 

Despite what some people had told her over the years, those people including her mother, she'd never thought of herself as overly pretty. Sure, she could clean up nice, and she typically had much better things to worry about than insecurities over her looks, but at the end of the day she was an athlete, not a model, and she didn't really have one of those effortlessly nice-to-look-at faces that, being French, she'd always craved in the back of her mind. Daisy had assured her that it would be lowkey and casual, but it didn't stop her stomach from churning or her eyes from catching herself in every semi-reflective surface and twisting a stray lock of hair behind her ear.

“Wait, Syd.” Daisy had developed a bad habit of starting sentences with wait, hold on, or okay due to having to placate Sydney into doing whatever she said next. “Don’t look so worried, Jesus. I’m not about to sacrifice you.”

“Are you seriously sure about that? Because I am not.” Sydney said, half laughing.

“You just looked very picturesque, sitting there. See, how's this? I’m improving, right?” Daisy was never the best at taking photos, but she'd been getting better under the support of the AlphaTauri photographer. Sydney liked the photo Daisy had taken; she had one knee pulled up to her chest and one dangling off the seat. She wasn't looking out the window, rather her head was tilted back on the chair and her eyes were half closed. There was just something about it that she really liked, and she couldn't quite put her finger on it. That, and her legs looked really, really nice, which was always a good thing.

“I love it, you should post it.” Sydney said earnestly.

“Caption?” Daisy said, looking at her phone.

“Euh, I don't know, I am bad at these things. You could just do the little plane emoji.” Sydney said, resuming her earlier position. She felt her phone buzz and saw a message from Pierre, maybe she would ask him. Bless plane wifi.

“I like it, or, wait, no that's dumb, maybe, oh wait, cute, how's this instead?” Daisy turned the screen around to show her the photo, with the caption ‘busy 🐝’. She liked spending time with Daisy for this exact reason, she could be her abrupt, kind yet real self.

“What?” Daisy just laughed.

“Busy bee, you know cos you're on a plane and you look tired and it's cute.” Daisy continued, and Sydney saw her press the post button anyway.

“I have never, not in my whole life, heard someone use busy and bee together. Why are bees busy?” Sydney said, her confusion less out of genuine curiosity and more just something to fill the time.

“I don't know, they're buzzing around making honey, they're busy.”

“I think I am a bit busier than a bee, no?”

“Just a bit.” Daisy smiled. Sydney felt her phone buzz again and saw that she had another text from Pierre.

“Busy 🐝 huh”

“ what about it”

“nothing nothing”

“no tell me”

“just a bit corny”

“it's Cute pierre”

Her stomach twisted slightly at his reminder.

She watched the three dots appear, but received another buzz before Pierre could finish typing. It was Lando. Unlike Pierre's contact, which had a photo of him incredibly drunk holding a beer bottle, eyes wide and crazy with the name pepé le pierre 👃🥖🇫🇷, Lando's was just Lando. It wasn't like she needed a last name or any emojis to recognise him. Just that name alone stirred something within her. It was distinctly different from the current turbulence in her guts, and she wrote it off as the nerves of trying to maintain another friendship, if you could even call their two drunken encounters and a few glances across the paddock friendship.

“heard ur gonna be in london, wanna hang out or smth” She had her read receipts on, and was conscious of taking too long to reply, so she chose to ask Daisy her question instead of googling it.

“Daisy, what does ‘smth’ mean when you are texting someone?”

“It means something, why, who are you texting in English?” Daisy asked suspiciously yet with a knowing look.

“No one, hey!” Sydney squealed, grabbing her phone that she’d left open and face up, giving Daisy plenty of time to see who it was.

“That would've been so much less suspicious if you hadn't tried to hide it.” Daisy giggled.

“I have no idea what you mean.” Sydney said, trying to think of a reply.

“I mean that you’re literally texting one of your colleagues, but you're acting like a schoolgirl with a crush.” Sydney chose not to respond, and Daisy gasped excitedly. “You are a schoolgirl with a crush! I won’t tell anyone, don't worry. Does Pierre know?” Sydney was confused as to why she would be asking about Pierre, but she chose to focus on the bigger issue.

“No, because I do not have a crush on Lando.” Sydney still hadn't replied.

“It's perfectly fine, he’s cute. A bit young for me, but I can see why you’d like him.” Daisy giggled, yelling playfully when Sydney pinched her.

“I do not have a crush on him, we are friends only. Anyway, do I have any free time in London?” She said semi-sheepishly. Thankfully Daisy chose to drop the subject, although she kept a self-satisfied smile on her face as she opened her calendar app.

“Well, we get in at 11, your photoshoot’s at 12:30 and that will take a few hours, they’ve said ‘till 4 but it'll probably be more like 6, and then you're free for the whole night with the interview tomorrow at 10. Sooo-” She sung, but Sydney cut her off with a glare.

“I will tell him that we can hang out tonight then. And maybe he will bring Alex and George, and I will not care because I do not have a crush on him.” Sydney said defiantly, about to begin drafting her text.

“sure, i am free tonight from 6:30, we can have dinner?” She backspaced that. It sounded too intense.

“sure, r u free after 6:30?” Pierre was trying to help her with her English texting, but so far u and r was all that had stuck. She sent the message and hoped that she sounded chill yet enthusiastic yet cool enough. Almost straight away she saw the three dots, and then they disappeared again. Then the message:

“yep, it's random but u wanna go see a quiet place 2? we can get some food after too if u want”

The three bubbles appeared then disappeared again, Lando clearly not wanting to become a double texter this early on.

“i am excited, i am staying at the hilton so u can pick me up? 😄😄” She was trying to channel some of their more playful drunken banter, but immediately regretted it after pressing the little blue arrow, thinking that she was coming off as needy.

“ugh fine 😐 see u at 6:30 🤪” It's okay, it worked. She flicked over to the safari tab and typed in ‘a quiet place 2’. Horror/thriller. Those kind of movies didn't freak her out too much and plus, she would be with Lando, and she couldn't imagine him taking anything that seriously. Although, they hadn't really spent that much time together, so she didn't know why she was coming to these conclusions.

“Done organising your date?” Daisy asked, and it awoke Sydney out of her trance.

“Yes.” She said with faux annoyance, not bothering to correct her on ‘date’.

“Good, cos we've landed.” Sydney hadn't even registered the plane descending at all, let alone the bumps from landing nor the people now waiting to leave the plane. Daisy just chuckled and shook her head. Sydney thought she heard her mutter something about Charlotte, the name of Lando’s PR manager, but she was probably just hearing things now.

The clock had just ticked over to 10:30pm, and instead of sitting in some overpriced Italian restaurant with Lando like she'd been daydreaming about for the past 2 hours, she was standing in the bathroom of the hotel room taking off her makeup with some wipes she stole from the set, her feet aching so much they felt as if they were sinking into the tiles. The whole day had been a colossal shitshow.

Her and Daisy had arrived a comfortable 10 minutes before 12:30, showered and fresh, ready to pose with her helmet and then maybe without it for a few hours. Instead, after ringing the buzzer to the studio and getting no response, they got a call from an assistant of an assistant and told to come to a different studio on the other side of London. So they hailed a taxi, stressed themselves silly until they got there, only to be told that the photographer was running late and wouldn't be able to begin shooting until 2. Sydney texted Pierre in a huff and was uncomforted by his reply that it happens all the time, and what was she expecting? At 2 she was heralded in to be prettied up, and even when the makeup artist admitted that they were 'unusually disorganised that day,’ Sydney just put on her well rehearsed smile, said it was fine and still didn't think to text Lando and cancel their plans. Something inside her wouldn't allow it. But, after several more outfit, lighting and backdrop changes, with the photographer seemingly having no plan and moving with the wind, she caved and let Daisy text Lando through her phone and say that she wouldn't be able to make it. He was kind and understanding, because of course he was, but Sydney still felt a sense of sad defeat where her nerves for the photoshoot once were. Finally, at 10:03pm the photographer had seemed satisfied and now here she was, disappointed and exhausted.

She had texted Lando as soon as they had finished, just to make sure he knew she hadn't forgotten about him, but he was yet to reply. She felt silly for thinking that he would keep his evening free after she cancelled, and yet she couldn't fight the small pang of something at the thought of being replaced so easily.

She was brushing out her hair, fluffy from just blow drying it so it wouldn't be wet while she was sleeping, when she heard her phone buzz. Thinking it was either Pierre or Daisy, she tapped the notification without looking, and didn't realise who it actually was until she picked up the phone to type her reply.

“still down if ur not too tired, in london anyway so can pick u up in 10”

Sydney felt her mouth go dry and her heart start beating loudly in her chest.

“sure, text me when u r here”

She stood still for a moment, just looking at herself in the mirror, before she realised that Lando would be there in 10 minutes and she was in her pyjamas, bra off and hair frizzy. She quickly tied her hair in two plaits, not the French braids she did for races, just relaxed ones, and shoveled clothes out of her suitcase to try and find something suitable. She figured it wasn't going to be overly intense given they were going to watch a movie at 10:30pm on a Friday night when most other people their age would be half blackout in a club by now. She pulled out a pair of wide leg jeans and a green turtleneck. It wasn't what she would usually wear, but then again this isn't what she would usually do. She hadn't been on a date since she'd tried out tinder once during her break between F3 and F2, and that had ended in her saying she had diarrhoea then calling her mum to pick her up.

‘ This isn't a date .’ She reminded herself, but she barely had time to unpack that thought before Lando had texted that he was there and she hadn't even put her shoes on.

“one sec” She replied. She grabbed her wallet and room key and sped walk down the hall, not before texting Daisy where she was going. She didn't need to, she was a grown woman after all, but it felt appropriate. Daisy responded “have fun 😉” and Sydney felt an unknown weight lift off her shoulders. She left out through the hotel's sliding doors and spotted Lando's outrageous car stopped right in front of her. She was trying not to walk towards it too fast, scared of looking too eager, and he got out of the driver’s side before she reached the car.

“That is a very nice car.” She said, half laughing as she looked at her situation objectively. Lando was standing in front of her, grinning sheepishly as he opened her door.

“What, AlphaTauri don't give you cars?” He asked.

“Comparing a Honda to a McLaren is like comparing me to Lewis Hamilton.” Sydney replied, trying not to look at Lando’s hands as he drove them out of the driveway. Something about how calm he looked, how at home he seemed in the car, it made her feel safe and warm in the unfamiliar vehicle.

“Yeah, one's much better looking than the other.” He said cheekily, pretending to look hurt when she flicked his shoulder.

“Is this movie we are seeing good?” She asked, and Lando laughed. “What?” She replied incredulously.

“Nothing, I don't know, it was just how you said it.” He said, smiling. “The first one was pretty good, so I’m sure this one will be good too.”

“Wow, so detailed, I cannot wait.” Sydney said sarcastically. “In a range of 1 to 10, how scary is it?”

“Maybe like a 4, it's mainly jumpscares. Don't worry, you can hold my hand.” He grinned.

“Oh wow, thank you so much. What exactly is a, euh,” She trailed off.

“Jumpscare?” Sydney nodded. “It's just like, AH!”

“Ah!” Sydney yelped, although considerably less loud than Lando. “What the fuck?” Lando just laughed.

“That's a jumpscare.”

“Fuck, I think I need to sleep after that.” Sydney noticed that they’d pulled into a car park and assumed that they were at the cinema.

“By the way, it's ‘on a scale of 1 to 10,’ not ‘in a range.’” Lando said, and this time Sydney thought he might actually be blushing.

“Merci, Lando. On a scale of 1 to 10, how common is the expression, ‘busy bee’?” She didn't know why that was what she thought of, but he seemed to find it amusing.

“I don't know, maybe a 4?”

“I am beginning to think that 4 is your favourite number.” Sydney said, and poked the logo on the hoodie he was wearing, because of course it was his own merch. He smiled and said nothing, now focusing on getting them into the actual theatre. Something about his whole demeanor made her feel so protected, and she couldn't quite put her finger on it. He wasn't that much taller than her, only a few centimetres, and although he was broader it wasn't his physicalness that made her feel so safe in his presence. Maybe it was the way he drove, or how he led them around the cinema like he'd been there many times before, or how he found their seats and, without hesitating, put his arm around the back of her chair, but she felt more at ease than she had since the night after the Monaco grand prix, and she was beginning to think he might be some kind of lucky charm for her. Less lucky, though, and more just...right.

“If you get bored or tired we can leave, I know you've had a long day.” Lando whispered under the movie trailers. He didn't need to, they were the only ones there, but his hot breath on her ear made her wish he spoke like that all the time. She turned her face towards his so that she could whisper back, and brushed her nose along his cheek in the process.

“I won't get bored, don't worry. And if I start falling asleep you can do a jumpscare and I will wake up.” They both laughed softly, then turned their attention to the screen in front of them as the movie began. His arm was still around the back of her chair, and she was resisting the impulse to lift up the armrest separating them and lean into him. She didn't know why though. If it was Pierre, her only friend she really spent time with alone, she wouldn't’ve hesitated, mainly because he probably would've initiated whatever it was and she would just be reciprocating. Maybe that was why she had this pit in her stomach when it came to Lando. It wasn't a crush, she just didn't really know how to act around him yet. The thought eased her mind, she didn't need to stress over the nuisance of having feelings for another driver, despite how carefree Daisy seemed to think it was.

Realistically, even if she did have a crush on another driver, it would be the most nightmarish situation imaginable, whether it was Lando or not. There would be the conflict of wanting them to do well but wanting to do your best. Needing to focus on your race but constantly thinking of how they were going. Feeling like you were sharing them with millions of other people with only a tiny portion to call your own. The questions and the rumours. Never feeling good enough as a driver or a girlfriend. Oh, and not to mention the complete and all encompassing lack of privacy. She must have drifted off into this world of unreal scenarios when a loud noise from the movie startled her and she let out a squeal. In her defence, it was a very, very quiet movie. Lando laughed and shuffled in his seat, almost seeming to get closer to her but still not touching.

Now she was paying attention. And the more invested she became, the more stressed she was for these characters. Also, her weirdly intense focus meant that the next loud noise, which was just some birds flying out of a train car, had her squeezing the armrest out of anxiety for what would come next. She looked over at Lando to see if he was just as freaked out as she was, when she saw that he was already looking at her. Of course, he looked forward once they’d made eye contact, but she knew what she saw. Over the course of the movie, Sydney found herself making her body smaller and smaller until she was sitting with one knee up and one crossed under it, both feet off the ground, her arms wrapped around her raised knee and her head leaning on Lando’s shoulder. The armrest was now digging into her side though, and in a moment of calm she sat up slightly to lift it out of the way.

“Watcha doin’?” Lando asked quietly, above a whisper but not talking volume. She noticed that his fingertips had followed her left shoulder around and were just grazing her jumper as she adjusted the seat.

“This thing is becoming seriously annoying, and I need full focus for the end of this movie.” Lando laughed and seemed to welcome her back into his shoulder where she now settled, much more comfortable and much, much closer. She had a brief moment of wondering if she was being annoying, but she soothed herself by saying that he wouldn't be running his fingers up and down her upper arm if he was finding her annoying. Which, by the way, felt incredibly nice.

The climax was building and, despite telling herself it was just a movie, Sydney couldn't stop the stress that was pumping through her and, without an armrest to clutch, she reached over and grabbed Lando’s hand, wrapping both of hers around it and squeezing. Later, she would realise that this definitely wasn't how she'd behaved with Pierre after a week of friendship, and certainly not how she behaved with any of her other friends, but in that moment all she cared about was the little deaf girl escaping the weird skeleton spider maze-runner things and Lando's warm, callused yet soft hand was a lovely way to express that.

“ Shit, shit, shit, fuck off, run bitch run! Oh my fucking god, why would you do that?” Sydney started yelling quietly, not even realising that she had started speaking French. She briefly thought that she felt Lando squeeze one of her hands back, but she couldn't tell through how hard she was gripping his. After what seemed like the most tense minutes of her life, the credits began to roll and she felt like she could breathe again. She patted the back of Lando's hand before releasing it, and then she reached up her arms to stretch. Lando's hand fell to rest on her waist, now unobstructed by her arms, and his thumb smoothed over the green fabric of her jumper. She lent to rest her head on his shoulder once more, and they sat watching the credits, neither making a move to leave.

That was, until, Sydney’s stomach grumbled the loudest she'd ever heard and Lando let out a laugh. “We probably should’ve eaten before.” Sydney smiled and reluctantly stood up out of his embrace, wanting nothing more than to stay in the warm, low lit room. It was the calmest she'd felt all day.

“Mm, maybe. Where are we going to eat though? It is,” She unlocked her phone “20 past midnight.”

“We're in London, Syd. On a Friday night.”

“Well, lead the way.” She said, gesturing for him to walk past her in the aisle. He swung an arm back around her shoulders and they left the cinema, thanking the teenage cashier on the way out. Instead of getting the lift back down to the carpark, Lando steered her through the front doors, and they were met with London’s cold midnight air. Sydney pulled her sleeves over her hands and tilted her chin further down into her jumper, Lando's arm just the tiniest bit tighter around her shoulders.

“You wanna get a kebab?” Lando asked, and Sydney wondered why he sounded half joking.

“Yeah, that sounds nice. Why are you laughing?” She asked incredulously.

“I dunno, I never picked you as a kebab girl.” He said, coming to a halt in front of the brightly coloured menus and food encased behind glass. “I’ll have a chicken kebab thanks.” He asked the man behind the counter, who nodded but was still eyeing them with vague recognition.

“Uh, yes, me too.” Sydney smiled, and pinched Lando in the side when she heard him snicker. “What, it must be good if that's what you're getting.” Lando just smiled in response.

“You two’re in formula one, aren't you?” The man said, assembling their food on the bench.

“Yep.” Lando replied, the two of them not really knowing how to act now.

“Would you sign something for my daughter? She started watching ever since you started driving, won’t shut up about it now.” Sydney looked up and expected him to be speaking to Lando, but found him looking straight at her.

“Of course, euh,” She picked up a napkin and took a pen from the ‘customer feedback’ jar, signing her name. She waited until he was done with their food to give it to him, and he gave her a big toothy grin in return.

“Thanks, it means a lot.”

“You're welcome, oh and thank you as well.” Sydney replied, lifting her kebab in acknowledgment. He just nodded, still smiling, and they left the store. She noticed that Lando still hadn't said anything, so she looked up at him, only to see him stuffing his face full of kebab.

“Woh?” He said through chewed kebab, and she gently pushed his shoulder.

“Nothing, is it good?” She said, taking a bite out of the corner of hers after he nodded.

“Bhe besht.” He mumbled.

“That is disgusting.” Sydney laughed. They were very slowly walking back to the car, feet moving sluggishly on the pavement. “Why did you not pick me as a kebab girl? This is delicious.” Lando seemed bashful, which only made her want to know more.

“I dunno, I would've thought you were a bit more...upmarket than kebabs.”

“Why do you say that huh?” Sydney giggled, trying to look annoyed.

“I dunno, you just uh, seem like the, you know, type.” Lando said awkwardly.

“Lando, I am missing what you are trying to say here. I will not be offensive, if that is what you are scared of.” Sydney smiled.

“Offended, you won't be offended.” Lando chuckled.

“Stop avoiding the question.” Sydney prodded.

“I dunno, you're just, really quiet around the other drivers, and, I mean I don't think this, of course, but you kind of have a, uh, reputation, of being, you know?”

“A snob?” She asked, not smiling anymore. “People still think that? From one interview, are you fucking joking me?” She knew she'd said something weird because of the way it sounded, but she didn't really mind.

“Well, some people, but like George and Carlos and them don't think that. Daniel doesn’t.” Lando said. Sydney didn't feel too angry at him specifically, because how could she when he was standing there, hoodie bunched around his wrists, hair curly and soft, walking her back to his nice car to drive her back to her hotel after taking her to a movie.

“It just makes me fucking pissed off. I do one thing and instead of it becoming a little joke that gets brought up from time to time, I am now a snob. Fuck me.” They had reached the car park, but Sydney didn't want to go home yet.

“Maybe you’ll just have to keep spending time with me, and when your accent gets weaker you'll lose your French snob reputation and all will be well in the world.” Lando smiled, clearly trying to ease the tension.

“Mm, maybe I will.” Sydney said, letting out a yawn. They were both standing by the boot of Lando's car, neither one heading towards the doors.

“I should take you back.” Lando said, and she thought she heard a note of disappointment in his voice.

“Do you have to drive home tonight?” Sydney said, remembering that he didn't actually live in London.

“Ah, no. I’m staying at a friend's place.” He looked down at his shoes, scuffing one against the concrete.

“Ooh, a lady friend?” Sydney said, a joking tone in her voice, despite a small hole that seemed to open up in her stomach.

“Uh, no, not really.” Lando said, and by his tone of voice she couldn't tell what it was he was trying to hide, but before she could continue quizzing him she yawned once more and remembered that she had an interview the next day.

“Oh well, maybe I should be going home anyway, I have an interview tomorrow.” She said, scrunching up her nose.

“Busy bee.” Lando said, smiling as he got into the driver's seat.

“Shut up.” She laughed.

“I really like that photo of you, by the way.” Lando said, choosing to focus on the road to avoid eye contact.

“Really, why?” She didn't mean to be so frank, but her sleepiness was hitting her now and she was losing her filter.

“I dunno. You look very relaxed. You don't seem relaxed very often.” He said quietly.

“I’m always relaxed with you.” Sydney murmured without thinking, the hum of his car below her filling up the space after her words.

“Mm, me too.” Lando looked over at her and smiled softly. She felt that hole in her stomach fill up with something warm and gooey, and it made her feel a bit sick in a nice way. She definitely didn't feel this way around Pierre, or Charles, or Daisy, or her parents. She'd never felt this way in her whole life. Then again, she'd never had that many friends. Maybe this was just how people felt about their best, best friends.

OK NOW HERE IS MY BIG PET PEEVE the end of the film is like. jack taught rose to grab every chance in life and she puts this lesson into practice by using this unimaginable tragedy to fake her own death and build a career for herself as a glamorous actress. now i can understand that and i can understand blowing off her evil fiance. BUT. HER MOTHER IS STILL ALIVE. it is made clear that her mother had no money and will now have to work for her living if rose doesnt marry rich. AND ROSE LEAVES HER TO THIS FATE???? AFTER THE TRAUMA OF BEING ON THE TITANIC?? like yeah it is soooo feminist girlboss of you to abandon your mother to penury and make her believe you’re dead while you have a wonderful ‘free’ life and her only crime was trying to do the best she could for you according to the options available to her gender and class in this time period. also. YOU BOTH SURVIVED THE TITANIC. if anyone on earth was allowed to break off an unwanted engagement and come to terms with each other and forge a new path for themselves it was these two!!! probably why they never showed roses mother after the sinking bc the audience would have gone. oh yeah what was up with that!!!!

also so mean of her to throw that diamond in the ocean she wasnt using it and that guy spent three years of his life looking for it and now he wont get paid either

overall rose and jack took up waaaaay too much time and i didn’t care at all the sound track was doing so much heavy lifting for them. and my heart will go on is a decent tune but celine dions voice is sooo annoying and that. synth that’s used in every nineties movie ending song. insufferable

ok final analysis. not the worst film ever made and not the best. mediocre which is not a crime. everything to do with the titanic itself as a man made object was incredible. here’s what i do think though. i dont think its a bad thing to have ‘morbid’ interests or obsessions, like true crime or serial killers or disasters like the titanic. whether you engage with them healthily or ethically or whatever is not really anyones business to police really. but i think it does become something worthy of criticism when you spend a bajillion american dollars on a film about it. mostly the whole thing felt to me like. whoa isnt the titanic so cool look at all the facts i know about it and how the physics of the wreck worked and all the history stuff i can get right and like. the spectacle of tragedy. which would be forgivable if it gave any respect to the people who actually died but it kind of didnt! ALSO absolutely no analysis of WHY this tragedy happened or who was at fault like very surface level oh there arent enough lifeboats? no one rowed back? not enough people in the lifeboats? but no examination of WHY like why didnt the officers row back? were they cowards? were they uneducated? traumatised? upper class idiots who didnt care? the film doesnt say! it points out the flaws in the design and running of the ship but never says whose fault it was! idk like it spends all this time and money on showing us the titanic and at the end you realise wow. it was never about the victims of this tragedy at all it was all a vehicle for james cameron to infodump about his special interest and so everyone who died on that ship to stand around and cheer and clap as leo and kate kiss in titanic heaven.

watching titanic bc i’ve never seen it and james cameron irritates me so here’s my thoughts so far

james cameron can certainly make films about things but not about people like. the opening sequence is genuinely beautiful like wow that is the real titanic and those are the real chandeliers and piano and it looks like the ghost of a ship and how can a machine made by the hand of man have a ghost? does a ship have a soul that lives on after death? i was so genuinely moved

the sequences of the ship in action are also genuinely moving like the shovelling of the coal and the boilers and the pistons and the propellers and the hundreds of people and hundreds of tons of machinery o the mighty works of the hands of man! the accomplishments of the human race and the attendant hubris and folly! like he truly made me see that and feel that so well done

but the whole story of jack and rose is so baddddd like it is entry level historical romance novel stuff. absolutely dire. ahistorical and stilted. juvenile analysis of class and gender. boring!

Alright, time for the post that no one asked for! Which ship had more development between Bmblby and Blacksun!

Gonna preface a few things first: I dont particularly ship either ship, so I'm going to do this with as little bias as possible.

This is only over the first 3 volumes, so anything after the fall of Beacon isnt taken into consideration right now.

And the rules are as follows:

First, winking will not be considered. Since people keep saying a wink isnt inherently confirming of a relationship, I'll ignore any winks and judge the scenes based on the content.

Second, scenes will be judged by whether or not you could replace any character and still get the same effect. (the more you can replace, the better in my opinion)

And lastly, since I keep seeing this coming up as well, the only evidence I will consider for absolute confirmation is of any sort of kiss in the first 3 volumes. Although, its going to feel a bit rushed and out of nowhere since the first 3 volumes takes place over 4-6 months at best.

Without further ado... everything will be under the cut.

Starting with Vol 1, after re-watching, there really wasn't any build up to either ship. Which, doesnt surprise me considering that Sun doesnt show up until the end of Vol 1 and the entirety of that volume is centered around introducing the characters, the world in which they live, and just general ideas on what it's like being a huntsman academy. But there are still a few scenes to note in vol 1:

Initiation: Its a quick blur, but you can see Blake rush across the screen once we see Yang walking through the forest. At that point, its safe to assume that Blake had already made her choice on who she wanted, which is further implemented with Blake helping Yang out with an Ursa.

Its safe to assume that between talking with Ruby the night before and seeing hearing how what she thought of Yang didn't quite match her thoughts.

Our next scene comes to Sun and his infamous "slow-mo wink introduction." As per the rules, I'm ignoring the wink and going straight off the content of the scene itself. Which, doesnt leave much. We know he pinpoints Blake as a faunus very quickly and he has some sort of infatuation with her, but the scene alone doesnt give us much.

However, that one does lead into the end of the Vol: Blake runs off from her friends and takes her bow off to finally show us her ears. At which point, Sun comments that he knew she'd look better without it. So that already shows that 1) Sun definitely pinpointed Blake being a faunus early on, and 2) he wanted to talk to her and this provided the right opportunity. Or... so he thought. Especially since the next scene opens up with him half complaining that they've spent 2 days together and all she's done is make small talk.

Which is all pretty on par for Blake. She then spends the next bit talking about her past, how she was pretty much born into the White Fang, stayed with it after it went from peaceful protests to more anger filled, until leaving Adam just a few months ago. After all of this, Sun asks if she's told her friends, to which we can assume she answers no to, you know, since she ran. Overall, it ends up leading Sun into going a bit gung-ho about helping Blake with the White fang.

Overall, Vol 1 did well to start putting together dynamics between Blake and her friends. Sun and Yang both make different impressions on Blake, both of which she ends up seeing as friends... for now.

Vol 2, is a bit of a strange one. Our first introduction to Beacon is Sun basically telling Neptune how cool team RWBY is, emphasizing a bit on Blake. Which does end up bringing us to the meat of the first half of vol 2: Blake worrying over the White Fang. Now, because of this, we dont see any build up between Blake and Sun or Blake and Yang while they go around town to figure out what the White Fang and Torchwick are up to. Sun makes a good point that Blake shouldnt go to the rally alone, and the two pair off while Yang goes to the club with Neptune.

Once the dance arc comes along, that's where things take an interesting turn. Sun immediately asks a sleep deprived Blake to the dance, in probably the most awkward way since he's trying to say the dance is lame, but would be less lame if the two of them went together.

Sun definitely cares about Blake and actively tried to help her calm down a bit. Which, ultimately, she never says no, just that she doesnt have time for a dance. So, I give this one a +1 in points for build up.

Then, we get to the burning the candle speech. Which, a lot of people seem to write off as either pointless or not build up. Personally, it gets a +1 in points on build up for me on this. First, Yang is absolutely worried about her partner, seeing her go down the same path she did when she was much younger. She immediately starts by telling Blake that she doesnt want her to stop, just to slow down and take a breather. And she ultimately makes a strong point: slowing down isnt a luxury, its a necessity.

This also end s up being the first time we see Yang open up and drop the party girl demeanor that she's had. She talks about her mother, someone that she doesnt talk to many people about, and just how much it hurt her to find out that Raven left shortly after she was born.

After an emotionally charged discussion, we finally see the point that Yang had been trying to get Blake to see:

And it finally does work. Blake slows down, takes a rest, and ultimately enjoys herself at the dance. Which, in her own words, she technically goes with Sun.

Overall, the dance arc in general gives great build up to both ships. Which ultimately is the end for the Black Sun build up.

Bmblby doesnt get much more build up in vol 2, the only other notable scene being the campfire where Yang, Blake, and Weiss start opening up a bit more to each other to figure out why each of them are becoming huntresses. Which absolutely gives a bit more foundation to the friendships they have.

Vol 3 ends up having most of the build up between Blake and Yang. The first major scene being after Yang was disqualified for breaking Mercury's leg. When Yang finally asked her team if they trust her, Blake is the only one who doesnt immediately say yes, instead, saying she wants to. Leading us to this face from Yang:

(yes, I know, captions are a bit off, deal with it.)

But Yang ends up being distressed by her own partner saying that she wants to trust, but doesnt yet. Blake ultimately ends up opening up about Adam, telling us how she used to trust him... until accidents started piling up. Eventually, she looks at Yang and asks her to look her in the eye and tell her she didnt do anything wrong. When Yang does, Blake allows herself to trust Yang.

Which then brings us to the biggest piece of buildup between the two: Adam. When Adam shows up, he starts using words like "my darling", hammering in that at one point, the two had something going on. He decides immediately he wants to hurt Blake just like she hurt him by leaving. But what really hammers in Blake's feelings for Yang, is the fear she had on her face when she heard Yang's voice not so far away... and right where Adam can hear her. It doesnt take long for Adam to look down at Blake, notice the fear, and then look in the direction of Yang, ultimately stating that he'll destroy everything Blake loves, starting with her.

Now, I know a lot of people will dismiss that as "it could've been anyone. If Sun had shown up, it would've been the same." And honestly, yes, it would've. This moment here is what solidifies who Blake ultimately cares about. Had it been Sun to come around, no doubt she'd show the same fear. But it wasnt him. Instead, it was Yang, who immediately found Weiss and asked where Blake had gone. And we further see her feelings for Yang cemented by the way she blames herself that Yang got hurt. The way she stays close, gently reaches for Yang's hand, the emotion of the entire scene after they get to safety.

Sun does ultimately care about Blake, and helps out where he can, but at least in vol 3, he had his own priorities of making sure everyone could make it to safety.

TL;DR: Both ships had a bit of build up in vol 2 and 3, although, the build up that Bmblby had outweighs the buildup that Blacksun has. Blake definitely had feelings for both, but ultimately, it took until Adam was a threat for her to realize the feelings that she had for Yang, and even then, she still wasnt entirely sure what they were until later in the series. At this point, the only reason anyone can say that Bmblby has little build up is due to either a higher bar for f/f ships (because, lets face it, everyone takes the wink from vol 1 as absolute confirmation for blacksun because its m/f) or they continue to deny that sometimes, there are multiple ways to show buildup between two people for a relationship and the slowburn route usually takes an emotional route over a physical route. And look, Blake has two hands. Take that as you will.

Going to be writing about the twins in a toxic relationship so dont read if you want fluffy blankshipping.

Ive written a manipulative Emmet but i havent written anything for manipulative Ingo. I guess i should start off by listing off the differences between them and some ideas i have. This is going to be very disorganised and probably would not be consistant. Im still working through my ideas.

So lets start off with an unhinged Emmet:

I dont think Ingo is that oblivious at all - just more or less in denial. He notices when Emmet is acting possessive or aggressive and he woud definetly try and set his foot down. (not that it changes much). He takes his role as an older brother seriously so he would try and correct this while giving Emmet the benefit of the doubt,which Emmet uses against him to gaslight him into thinking hes overreacting and that would make Ingo more hesitant to call him out. Which intern allows him to get away with more things since Ingo would start believing he's being unfair and thinking the worst in Emmet.

Emmet relies on manipulating Ingo's emotions and gaslighting him, he will cry infront of him and go 'look how you made me feel' and make him feel guilty. If Ingo's being more stubborn then he isnt afraid to play on Ingo's insecurites or even using other people. He definetly has vented to Elesa to make Ingo out to be irrational or stubborn which results in her taking Emmets side and making Ingo doubt everything. She definetly does not know the full extent which leads to some nice angst once this all comes out.

Emmet hates not knowing where Ingo is, he also hates it when Ingo spends too much time with other people. He would definetly make Ingo feel guilty or quietly 'take' care of the other person if he feels Ingo is neglecting him or if he's in danger. Ingo quietly picks up on his twins agression and starts isolating himself since he believes it would be his fault for making Emmet uneasy and for getting the other person hurt for 'his mistake'. (he does not know the full extent he just thinks Emmet gets mad or overprotective and eventually simply doesnt want to stress his twin out)

Overall, Emmet is more overt with his manipulation with Ingo since Ingo would notice quicker that something was wrong (But not exactly what) and it isnt like Ingo would speak up to others out of fear of a misunderstanding and hurting his twin, especially with most people having a bias to believe Emmet more than Ingo and Ingo's desire to be a good older brother wanting to believe the best in him. He'd eventually convince himself that everything's fine and that he's a horrible brother for thinking the worst in Emmet.

Now for an unhinged Ingo

Unlike Emmet he isnt overt, since Emmet wouldnt pick up on it as quickly as Ingo would. Emmet trusts his brother and looks up to him, he would have an easier time writing off his odd behaviours with whatever Ingo tells him. He trusts Ingo to look out for him. Of course he does end up picking up on Ingo's possessivness he's more willing to believe his excuses and would feel horrible for thinking that his older brother doesnt have his best interest at heart.

He's subtle, would never blow up on Emmet and would instead manipulate him by never explicitly doing anything. He would gaslight Emmet and make him question everything he saw (and he isnt afraid to use chandelure if he has to) and would never be mad at Emmet, just disapointed he believed that about his 'beloved older brother' doesnt have his best interests at heart. Emmet would end up feeling awful for doubting his twin and would have his words misinterpreted frequently that he doubts his own feelings.

With Emmet being more social, Ingo does get really possessive and will quietly take care of people by carefully destroying their reputations. It makes it all too easy then for Ingo to ask Emmet not to hang out with that person since 'hes worried about him after all he heard'. It definetly causes Emmet to isolate himself since he starts to doubt everyone who isnt Ingo. Even if he realises Ingo was causing these rumours and isolating him on purpose, he would struggle reaching out because 'what if hes right and they do want to hurt me?' resulting in him keeping quiet.

Overall, Ingo is less overt so Emmet doesnt realise everything's falling apart around him until its too late, compared to Ingo who would be watching helplessly as his brother takes full control. Emmet would also struggle going against Ingo and standing his ground due to Emmet looking up to him and trusting him. Its hard for him to wrap his head around so he would try ignoring it and pretending that everything is alright. He'd convince himself that its fine and all he needs is Ingo.

Clearing out the to-read manga blacklog of ours, its time for Today’s Cerberus!

Cerberus, the title character of ‘Today’s Cerberus’ is a cute anime girl version of the same entity from Greek mythology. Our main character Chiaki is unable to feel proper joy and happiness because his soul is damaged. One day a strange girl shows up at his house and announces herself as the legendary Cerberus, who is three people in one. Cerberus wants to help him restore his soul, of which it is their fault that it is damaged. The situation then proceeds to develop into a standard harem manga love quadrangle as Chiaki begins attempts to heal himself with Cerberus’ help.

Gonna spoil the whole manga, so buckle up.

Plural Characters: Cerberus (Kero, Shirogane, Roze), and Orthros&Hikari

System type: Traumagenic for Cerberus, and unknown for Orthros

Personhood: Every headmate in both systems is unambiguously treated as their own person by the narrative and by other characters. MC recognizes Cerberus each as separate people long before the unfortunate splitting occurs, “with the two of us, no.. the four of us”. All of them get character development as well. 10/10

Dynamic: The dynamic shown while Cerberus is still plural is particularly good. They call switching ‘switching’ on multiple occasions. Kero(who acts as the host) cannot access the inner world because Roze(the original) has blocked her access to their memories and she has amnesia barriers from the other two, who do not. Roze and Shirogane talk internally on several occasions. They can be triggered in and out, and Roze and Shirogane can override Kero usually. There is even an occasion or rapid switching leaving Kero reporting that she feels like she is ‘floating’. While switching is usually used as a source of humor, it manages to be surprisingly well done despite this.

Orthrus on the other hand, are dysfunctional and antagonistic. Hikari and Orthrus communicate poorly and Hikari can keep memories and information from Orthrus and it causes a mess when Hikari goes and tries to kill Cerberus and steal the item that is supposed to restore the main character’s soul because he wants that healing too. Hikari doesnt want to go back under Hade’s abusive thumb, so he is willing to lash out to make that happen the second he spies a true way out. Orthus doesnt begin to understand he needs to repair his and Hikari’s relationship and why he chose to try to kill their sisters until Hikari seems to be gone, and the ending being ambiguous if its going to be forever or not. This is a reasonable, if dysfunctional setup.

Overall, while the plural characters are plural and obviously so in the story, their dynamic is well thought out, especially for a horny gimmick harem manga. Points off for it not lasting long and us not getting very much on Orthrus and Hikari. 8/10

Narrative Sympathy: Cerberus is given full narrative sympathy, to Shirogane- the aggressive one that lashes out, to Kero- the oblivious ‘childlike’ host, to Roze, who is why the main character’s soul has a piece missing out of it(as she bit him in fear and damaged his soul). You get to spend time with each character and the narrative really shows you they all deserve love and care.

Orthrus and Hikari are less sympathetic, but they are antagonists. They do have the potential at the end to heal and develop dangled in front of us. Hikari may do terrible things in the story, but he has reasonable motive (getting away from an abuser) so you can feel for him, even if his actions are inexcusable. After getting power of friendshipped, he also seems to show remorse before the end. Orthrus in particular seems to trend towards getting Vetaga-ed into a decent person by the end.

Generally good, but points off for Hikari 8/10

Consistency: In short- not super great. We only learn of Hikari way late in the manga despite Orthrus showing up very early, and the physical splitting happens about a third into the manga, with a brief fusion into one body again in the climax before splitting again. While Cerberus is plural, its fine, and once Hikari shows up through till he disappears, its fine in terms of consistent portrayal, but everything else is less so. 6/10 

Edge: There is some edge. They are both supernatural creatures with magic powers and Kero has a berserk state. Hikari is willing to have a lot of people die to be free and behaves in quite a malnevolent way once he sees a way to do that. Roze took a bite out of the main character’s soul, so there is that too. 5/10

Singlet Nonsense: There is shapeshifting but Cerberus is supernatural so thats somewhat excusable with magic. What is not, however, is the splitting into separate bodies for essentially the rest of the story. Its ambiguous if they can refuse into one body now that Kero is a human or not. It IS acknowledged that its a massively lifechanging event and Shirogane and Roze want to go back to how they were and that they have to learn how to live lives without relying on one another, but its still very much a thing. Hikari also ‘dies’/gets tossed into this void between worlds thing. So no characters get to be confirmed plural by the end, and the majority of the manga is them not being plural. Its a shame because the were doing so well for that first while. Aside note, some real monogamous nonsense too in regards to plural characters and dating, but thats par for the course in harem mangas. 8/10

Possible Upsetting Tropes Present: Shapeshifting alters, nonhuman neurodivergent, singletification through alter death, singletification through separate bodies, superpowered evil side, violent alter, alters as comedy prop

Overall series grade: While it starts so well, it rapidly goes off the rails and never gets back on the rails proper in terms of plural rep. The singlet nonsense really drags it down and despite its best efforts, it never regains footing in that respect. When taken just as those first chapters, it would be something like 8-9/10, but as its a whole work in which the plural characters feature, it gets a 6.5/10

- she just really loves spending time with you, but also very much enjoys being in your arms

- this can cause a lot of problems in your relationship, but after you explain how much it affects you, shes trying to change

- will always work on her stubborn-ness and pride

- and it actually makes her feel a lot better being able to admit defeat, or being wrong

- she really likes being communicative and honest, especially with you

- i think overall your relationship with sasha is very very fun, filled with good memories, good food, good friends, and most importantly, love.
