Saw the submas soulmate idea of being able to see colors once you meet your soulmate, and how in a situation where you are both Ingo and Emmet's soulmate meeting with Ingo only revels half the colors of the world. When I saw that I couldn't help but think of how that would make Emmet's reunion with his brother (and meeting their shared soulmate) rather interesting. So have this tiny fic/idea thing. I'm just picturing Emmet in Nimbasa all alone. His world is nothing but grayscale completely void of all colors. His brother is gone, and all of his searching has amounted to nothing. Most have given up on Ingo coming home, and while Emmet still has hope that one day Ingo will return that hope dies a little bit with each passing year. He hasn't even thought about finding his soulmate during this time. Finding their soulmates was something that the brothers has always dreamed of doing, but he can't bring himself to do it. He can't even find his own twin what hope does he have in finding his soulmate? Days blend together until one day he hears a voice call out to him. A voice he feared he would never hear again. "Emmet!" And when he turns around he sees Ingo there. Happy, and so clearly relived to see Emmet. By Ingo's side is you, and when Emmet gives you a quick glance suddenly his world explode into color. He can see the different colors that make up the evening sky and the setting sun. He can see the blue that makes up the Gear Stations symbol on Ingo's hat. He can see the flashing colors on the farris wheel of the distant theme park. While he's trying to process it all he can see his soulmate have a moment of startled realization, but while Emmet is still processing everything his soulmate recovers a lot quicker. "So you are my other soulmate," They say. 'Other?' Emmet can't help but think, but that thought leaves his head when Ingo runs to him and yanks him into a hug. Emmet melts into the hug, and clings to his brother. His brother is back. His brother is finally back. After clinging to each other for a while Ingo breaks the hug slightly although he doesn't let go. He only separates to gesture for Emmet's soulmate to come over. "Emmet," Ingo says. "This is my soulmate. Well, our soulmate I suppose." "Nice to meet you," They say. "It's nice to know what the color blue looks like now." Emmet didn't have a way with words. Not like how Ingo did, and in his overwhelmed state said skill might as well have been nonexistent. Instead of saying anything he only reaches out to them and gently takes hold of their hand. He gently pulls them toward both him and his brother, and once they were close enough he quickly included them in the hug. They quickly hug him back clearly understanding that he needs a moment. Ingo is quick to hug them both while Emmet clings to the both of them. His soulmate is here. His brother is back. There are questions that need to be asked. Things that need to be figured out. But they can worry about all of that later. For now Emmet is content to cling to his soulmate and brother, and just be happy to have both of them in his life.

Tell me more about this book blanket? I'm Fascinated

Omg yay!! Okay so I'm knitting two rows per book that I finish in 2024, and each book rows will be a different color based on the genre it is

So here are the books I've read so far. Everything that's in bold is what I've knitted, and the last book on the list is what I'm currently reading but haven't finished yet. So I've knitted everything before Fifty Feet Down, and read everything up to Annie on My Mind, but I'm currently like thirty percent through it.

I'm choosing colors as I finish genres, and I'm trying to do it only with yarn I have (cuz yarn is expensive and I have a lot of yarn. The reason I have a lot of yarn suitable for a blanket is because I took all of this yarn from a blanket I started knitting four years ago and never finished. Like I finished frogging that blanket yesterday and made it into cakes on my new yarn winder!!) I didn't really try to make the colors fit the genres. I just own a lot of navy yarn and knew I'd read a lot of LGBTQ books, and I own a lot of black and know I'll read a lot of horror books. Then for dystopian I just chose a yarn color that I had available, same with mystery.

Here's how it's going so far! You can see the four navy rows for the two LGBTQ books i read, the two purple for the one dystopian book (which is also very good, I highly recommend Debate Kids at the End of the World and that author in general, Alex Nonymous) and then a chunk of black because I read four I. S. Belle books in a row (you can also see all of the ends I didn't weave in, which I'm going to hate myself for when I finish the blanket)

"But Austyn, what if the book is more than one genre?" I'm so glad you asked! Most of these books could be considered more than one genre. Fifty Feet Down is a mystery, but also a romance. So I just consider what genre I believe is more integral to the story, if that makes sense. Fifty Feet Down could be relatively the same if the main characters were just friends, but the story would be vastly different if it wasn't a mystery. Therefore, it gets the mystery color instead of romance. Same with all of the I. S. Belle books. There's romance in them, but if you took out the romance it would still be pretty similar, but if you took out the horror it would be an incredibly different story.

So that's my 2024 book blanket!

i am currently working on 3 wips right now: fem!mav AU, assorted extras for the edts series, & non-top gun related war novel that is my honors senior research thesis on military literature

i write sporadically when i get an idea. I very rarely have ideas which is why i almost never write fanfiction. 90% of what you guys have read of mine is not written in any conceivable order, and i mean literal sentence-to-sentence level construction that is sometimes written months apart because i couldn’t figure out how to end a sentence in march but did figure out how to end it in may. i am kind of running out of wips to show you guys on wednesdays because so many of my paragraphs are straight unfinished lol. this system really works for me because i can write whatever i want whenever I want, meaning if i have a eureka “i should add such-and-such symbol!!!” moment (see the pens in the slider one-shot, a very last-minute addition) then i can just go back & add it because everything, every scene and every paragraph and every word, is a work-in-progress till literally the minute i post it… i don’t count drafts except for huge marked changes because im always constantly editing & tweaking

Mistborn AU Snippet: In which Hilda and Hilbert accept a deal with a particular Inquisitor and trade one fear for another.

(In other words, I have thoughts about Emmet going behind the backs of literally all his colleagues in the Canton of Inquisition to find allies in Hilda and Hilbert because they can get him to Ingo)

(And Ingo, unfortunately, harbors a deep, grief-concentrated hatred for the Steel Inquisitors; including, unknowingly, his own twin)

"That entails trust," Hilda said, and his head turned ever so slightly towards her. She was far more open in her threats, a black dagger already out and being flipped back and forth between her palms, obsidian singing easily loud enough for Dari to hear whenever it brushed against her leather gloves. "Deals require trust, and you're just one of the Lord Ruler's dogs, with how loyal you Inquisitors are."

"Not all dogs are born to be leashed," he said, the grin already stretched across his lips widening further, a disconcerting scimitar of teeth. "And do not think that I am not risking myself for this, either. The other Inquisitors will have my head if they find out. Assuming your Wraith friend does not kill me first."

Hilda twisted her mouth to the side, glancing at Hilbert. She cocked an eyebrow while he furrowed his own.

Their emotions were settled -- there was no gentle touch of brass, nor the subtle shove of zinc, trying to make their choice err one way or another.

"You can help us get closer to the Lord Ruler?" Hilbert asked, holding off on his answer.

"Yes."

"And you're risking your own hide as much as ours?" he pressed.

Dari shrugged. "Not quite. But my execution would follow your own. Verrrrry quickly."

The boy scrunched his nose and looked at Hilda.

"Well?" he whispered, not particularly caring if Dari could hear them or not -- he'd find out their decision soon enough, regardless of what it was. "If he's serious...."

Hilda sighed, weighing the odds, the cons, the pros, a pair of conflicted scales eventually settling between her and her twin as she nodded reluctantly.

"Ingo is going to kill us," she muttered.

YOU GOT ME AT SCHRODINGER'S I'M SCREAMINGGGG but yeah, i just want to share and geek out about how the Oldest Dream situation really reflects Schrodinger's Cat theory and how Kim Dokja is the cat in a very poorly worded way with hopes that people can understand why I always get so insane about the Oldest Dream situation.

Likeeee, imagine the subway train as the box and 51% Kim Dokja as the cat. In order to "maintain" the worldlines, we know that the fragments of 51% Kim Dokja will be scattered throughout the universe to maintain the existence of everyone else, essentially having him follow the rules of quantum superposition. Quantum superposition is an explanation of how many different states can essentially exist in every possibility at all points in time because they are "unobservable," and what you observe is all those unobservables collapsing into a single outcome. You can only imagine what the cat in the box is doing until you actually open the box. Relating this to 51% Kim Dokja, 51kdj is essentially both dead and alive at this point in time within the subway train because we no longer have his pov beyond what happened in the 0th regression. We can only imagine what is happening to him until we actually "open" the box (which is the train door of the cabin that he was in).

Now let's connect this to the ORV author's epilogue. yoohan and kimcom coming in to save 51% kdj (opening the "box") collapsed the unobservable reality within the subway train of their worldline into one "observable" outcome, which is 51% kdj becoming the oldest dream (scattered into fragments and implicitly dead) and 49% as the kdj that they got to have.

Fourth wall saying, "You should have been content with 49% Kim Dokja," is SO interesting to me by the way, because the way that the Fourth Wall talked when they arrived at the cabin where 51kdj is, it's like kimcom and yoohan's actions are indirectly responsible for doing three "irrefutable" things: 1) fulfilling the prophecy for the final time and establishing it again that you can't escape the fate of the prophecy iirc even if kdj had managed to cheat it out in DKOS arc (Kim Dokja will be "killed" by the one he loves most), 2) that Kim Dokja will regret his decision of splitting up himself 49/51 (because yoohan and kimcom will always look for him as long as they find out instead of settling down and being finally happy), and 3) that 49kdj will now always have to deal with the reality that they are not the Kim Dokja that everyone wants even if 51kdj said to the Fourth Wall that 49% Kim Dokja is technically him fulfilling his own wish and promises to be with kimcom and just live happier...

SO YEAH. TL;DR kim dokja is the schrodinger's cat and by extension, the entirety of Everything in orv existing hinges on the Schrodinger's cat theory which is on nobody ever knowing what the Oldest Dream "actually does" (and you can see that numerous times when Kim Dokja was initially puzzling out what this constellation sponsor was doing and surprise, bro is himself and doing the job of keeping everyone else alive) until they opened the forbidden box—er, final wall slash train door and then that's when everything blows up and kills me

Love the fucked up YooHanKim dynamics in early ORV. Kim Dokja is has made it his life's mission to save YJH's life and solve all his problems and be his fucked up apocalypse therapist but also can't hold a conversation with the man to save his life. YJH can't decide if KDJ is his ride or die bestie or some freak he can't manage to kill. They hate each other. they'd die for each other. They have a thousand years of history they don't remember because it hasn't happened yet, and 15 years of history YJH is just straight up not aware of. Han Sooyoung is busy starting a cult and moonlighting as the author of a book she plagiarized.
