You could have just had Kinich making NORMAL vines to pull himself around, and have Ajaw be a tiny yellow dragon who ISN'T flat and pixelated. You didn't have to do... whatever this is. Why are they 8-bit?? Who thought that was a good idea??

General opinions on Traveler ships I like:
Xiao/Traveler: I can see it. I don't think about it much or actively search for it but I like it when I do see it.
Enjou/Traveler: Only if it's horribly one-sided, where Enjou is willing to follow the Traveler to the ends of Teyvat and tell them all his deepest secrets from second one and the Traveler is actively asking Diluc, Kaeya, and Yelan about how to stealthily dispose of bodies.
Furina/Traveler: Why am I seemingly the only person who ships this do you see how hard she struggles to both impress the Traveler and grow as a person and a leader for them, did you notice how Neuvilette asks not to leave her alone during her meeting with Arlecchino when he can't make it and how she asks the Traveler to sit next to her, imagine her joining the Traveler in domains and, mid-combat, asking the Traveler to praise her for how much stronger she's grown since she started actually learning self-defense, if she stays in Fontaine imagine her using her intelligence network to send them updates on their sibling and also notes from herself, imagine her boasting to everyone in the Court of Fontaine about how cool and amazing and beautiful the Traveler is and what do you MEAN she sounds like she's in love with them, EVERYONE should be in love with them, they're just that cool, they saved her life you know--

I suddenly groked why Childe's friendship with the Traveler is important to me. It makes him look more inhuman.
Same with his attachments in general. It all looks so sweet on the surface but this is *not* how humans handle attachments.
Humans are awkward, and afraid to admit they like someone, and they want reciprocity, and they are careful about how a new person will affect their life. They are very cautious about placing their trust in someone even if they like them. They often lie for the sake of maintaining the relationship.
And then there's this guy who loudly declares you a friend the moment he starts liking you enough, expects nothing in return and seems to trust almost blindly (personally, I think it's calculated risk rather than that, but it still removes the usual weight of trusting someone). Who is honest and straightforward in ways that don't really benefit him. And it's not exactly hero worship (he has that towards Skirk and Capitano and we know it looks differently), he just sees someone like himself in the main character.
His other relationships (siblings and Her Majesty) could have been interpreted in multiple ways but his attachment to the Traveler establishes those as genuine and more on the warm side too.
(and more weird)
We also get reminded that he isn't nice even when he likes a person, he still has his weird ideals and obligations and doesn't compromise on those.
If he was a brooding loner or someone more sociopathic in his approach it would be too easy to clock him as a traumatised kid or at least a flawed human. The way he relates to the Traveler very clearly establishes him as more than that.
I've also seen takes on how he doesn't really love his siblings, he just wants to be the best in everything and that includes being the best older brother. That would be awfully human, too, I think.
It's a subtle distinction, fae beings can be obsessed with beauty and perfection but not with being the best. A desire to be the best is a narcissistic dynamic, it's painfully human and rooted in insecurity.
(he says and shows multiple times how he doesn't seek narcissistic fuel at all, even on an average human level. he seeks improvement but doesn't really care about winning or impressing other people
he's also committed to doing the best he can without being worried about perfection in the current moment)
He loves them dearly and he's doing what's best for them as he understands it, but it doesn't matter whether they love him or whether anyone else including them thinks he's a good brother.
So we once again get a lovely paradox with him. Everything is the opposite of what it seems.
Could be read as a different form of trauma or just arrogance, of course, but also it connects him to other Abyssal beings (Elynas, Durin, Caribert to an extent too. one could say Enjou as well). Horrors of Teyvat love with no reservations but also it doesn't mean what you think it means.

Spicy foods are something that you like to try out, even if your tolerance for it isn't great, you still enjoy the way the spice hits your taste bud, inflicting pain that turns pleasure from the other flavors along with it. Which is why you find yourself in your current situation, in your apartment, prepping for your weekly spicy food review that you later on write about and post on social media – a little something you find fun in. As you put the bowl of ramyun on the coffee table, sitting on the floor comfortably with the T.V. playing a random show, you rub your hands together in excitement. Grinning, you picked up the chopsticks and brought the noodles up to your mouth – already salivating from the smell, guessing just how spicy it was.
Another thing about you is that you are stubborn. Slurping the noodles, a hum left your lips as you chew on the noodles, lips spread wide as you relish in the pain and flavors, letting the spices hit your tongue. However, as you let everything sink in, you started to notice that the pain kept increasing to the point that your tongue actually stings more than you're used to. You continue on anyway, slurping noodles once again as you start sweating, some dripping down the sides of your face. You then gather the bowl in your hands and sips the soup, closing your eyes in pain as you continue on without a break.
Your eyes were now tearing up, mixing with the sweat that slid down your cheeks. Despite all of the pain and suffering you have put yourself through, you didn't stop. 'Maybe I should've checked the spice level first...' you thought, sniffing while you put the bowl down after sipping once again. Leaning back against the couch behind you, you let your head rest on the cushion, eyes closing. You feel just how puffy your face is, especially your lips from the onslaught of pain it received, as well as the tongue. You kind of wonder how up until now, your taste buds are still intact. Maybe after you recover from this, it'll officially be lost.
As you try to calm yourself, you don't hear the door to the apartment open. Only jumping from the shock that coursed through you after a familiar voice spoke.
"Are you okay?" your boyfriend, Seokmin, asked. Voice laced with worry along with his face. Looking up at him with a pained smile, you shoot him a thumbs up, not even bothering to speak. Just looking at you tells him enough, but upon landing his eyes on the coffee table, Seokmin confirms then and there what has caused his lover to be in such a state.
Endearingly shaking his head, he smiles back at you and moves to settle beside you "You seem to be in much more pain than usual." he notes, snuggling close to you as he puts an arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer to his side. Feeling you melt in his touch, he bought up his other hand to caress your cheek, now noting the puffy lips along with the little puffs of breath you release. He finds it adorable, ignoring the fact that you're literally suffering right now. Seokmin knows you like it though, it's just a little concerning how much you were whining and breathing heavily more than usual, he knows that the spice for this one was something you underestimated.
Lips pouting, Seokmin continues caressing your cheek as he coos "Too spicy for my baby?" he asks, gazing deep in your eyes. Your lips look so kissable.
Nodding with a whine, this causes him to chuckle, thinking of just how adorable you, his lover, is being "Want me to kiss it all better, hm?" he suggests, not caring if he'll be able to taste the flavors of the noodles by pressing his lips against yours. You seem to have thought about this as well because you were about to speak, but seeing the eager look on Seokmin's eyes, another sound slipped from your lips as you nodded once again.
With the approval, Seokmin leans close and softly slots his lips on top of yours. He keeps it gentle, settling with placing soft pecks on and around the lips to really feel the puffiness in them. Why he likes the condition of your lips are in, so much? He doesn't know.
Heat spreads on your cheeks, this time because of how gentle your boyfriend is handling you. Although kissing won't ease the pain that you're feeling, it definitely helps distract you that the pain was on the back of your mind. You kisses him back every time his lips are on yours, but mostly you just sit still with your face cradled in his hands, eyes now closed while your heart flutters rapidly from the affection.
Soon a smile spreads on your lips, the giddy feeling bubbling up and showing on your face, resulting in Seokmin smiling as well. This continues on until you open your eyes, hands moving to cradle your lover's face, gazing at him lovingly. You can feel your heart swell, just like the state of your cheeks is in.
Licking his lips, Seokmin grins "We should kiss more every time you eat. It adds to the flavor." this earned him a gentle slap on his cheek, making him laugh.
"That's disgusting!" you whined, despite doing it just now.
The two of you erupted in giggles after a while, continuing the slow, soft makeout session. The heat and pain you felt gradually subsiding as it goes on.

Genshin ships: stock market update (Natlan Act 3+4)
(Warning: May contain spoilers for character appearances and dynamics in [Chapter 5 Act 3–4] Beyond the Smoke and Mirrors and The Rainbow Destined to Burn. Previous entries here.) This is for entertainment purposes only and is not financial advice: consult with your ship financial advisor before you invest.
Citlali/Traveller — This ship has everything. Handholding. Accidental mind reading tropes. Fast friendships in middle age. Drunken soul-baring. Palm reading. Coparenting dynamics. They sat and watched the moon together. BUY.
Capitano/Traveller — HOLD. Solid starting potential but their interactions have all been too high stakes to get a sense of how their personalities interact.
Mavuika/Capitano — SELL OR HOLD. Too early to call; Act 5 could make or break this.
Mavuika/Xilonen — Our previous recommendation has changed; it's now a strong BUY. Our analysts say they haven't seen this level of weary fondness since 2021's "pay your fines, Captain", and Dainsleif hinting that Xilonen does everything in her power to avoid being around when Mavuika turns up is just icing on the cake.
Kinich/K'uhul Ajaw — HOLD. Just because two people are married doesn't mean there's a ship in there. Sometimes it's just for tax purposes.
Paimon/K'uhul Ajaw — SELL. The world's best travel guide deserves someone who will treat her with respect, such as... uh... Sorush?
Mehrak/K'uhul Ajaw — be serious.
Traveller/Teleport Waypoints — after Act 4? As if. SELL.
Enjou/Aether — BUY BUY BUY does this even need explaining?
Enjou/Lumine — HOLD. Our analysts hurriedly added, “Nonono it's not a gender thing, it's because Aether likes Pyro slimes and Lumine likes Cryo slimes more so really we should be shipping Lumine with the Maguu Kenki or something.”
Chasca/Shenhe — SELL. Bird mating rituals aren't nearly as fun without the possibility of oviposition. Or, um. So I heard. Stick with Xianyun/Kujou Sara.
Cyno/Kinich — *sigh*, no, SELL. Too (ki-)niche.
Ronova/Xbalanque — HOLD OR BUY. Btw, are we sure the Archon War made it west of Liyue? >_>
Citlali/Faruzan — HOLD. It's too early to compare their traumas for thematic compatibility, but it's not out of the question. Watch this space.
Citlali/Draff — *wince*
------
We tend not to advise on heavily optioned stocks due to all the short selling activity, but for those of you who were wondering:
Citlali/Ororon — too volatile to call. This is the first explicit (grand)parental relationship between playable characters, so it technically fills a niche, but it's unclear whether that's a niche anyone went into Genshin looking for.
Chuychu/Chasca — the analysts just gave me a really withering look so I guess SELL? "Too soon"? What's that supposed to mean? She's just resting her eyes, right?
Mavuika/Nahida — SELL OR HOLD. The motif of memories as fuel is great and all but Mavuika is way too young.
Ematol/Phonia — SELL. The worst part is that they're not even the kind of sisters where that would have any transgressive je ne sais quoi. They're just like flatmates. Bert and Ernie minus the chemistry.
And that's it for now. Keep an eye on the Sumeru market later this patch— we're expecting predictable dividend payouts on all the blue chip stocks.

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who went A J A W E G G S after that line hahah
Thank you for painting such a delicious picture. I see your vision, I absolutely can't blame Kinich for not wanting to deal with a second Ajaw but what if they turn out to be a second Kinich and tag team against Ajaw lol that'll be somewhat cute haha.
Kinich developing a breeding kink because of ajaw will be hilarious. The saurian relic opened a new horizon for him and now he'll want even more from his partners. Dragonlord be damned!
I'm eating up the hc about his complicated relationship with the tribes cause you're SO right. And ngl I do wanna see what camp two is capable of! lol Trinidad is for sure one of the leading figures in there, he's such a hater HAHAH
Thanks for answering!! Very pleased to have found a space where I can feed my kinich brainrot xD take care author!

Feel free to keep sending your brainrot my way! I love it!! You take care too, anon!! ❤️❤️❤️
Response under the cut! Spoilers for Kinich’s character stories and the Yupanqui's Turnfire Tribal Chronicles!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wonder how Ajaw’s baby would look like 🤔 A direct copy of Ajaw? Pixel? Dragon? A mix of all three? Ajaw’s technically a projection now, which makes me doubt his real form is pixelated, so probably not pixels?
If Kinich somehow had a guarantee that the kid would turn out more like him than Ajaw, he’ll be jumping on that dragon dick without hesitation!
Imagine after a nice long fuck, his partner of the day casually asks him when did he develop his breeding kink? Kinich, being the blunt fucker he is, just goes ‘Ajaw’ and proceeds to give his partner a whiplash because whAT DO YOU MEAN YOU GOT IMPREGNATED BEFORE BY THE??? TINY PIXEL LIZARD?? HOW?? 🤣
Camp Two wanna fuck him so bad they look stupid!! They’re capable of SO many things, but unfortunately defeating Kinich isn’t one of them. His stamina is simply too good + he’s a raging masochist. So no amount of bullying can break his spirit! He thrives on it instead! Maybe that’s why he could get along (Somewhat) with Enjou/Sanka so well. It’s masochist on masochist communication HAHAHA
And of course, we can’t forget Trinidad! As much of a hater as he is, I don’t think he’ll actually do half of the terrible things Camp Two would. He’s still an elder of the tribe and a generally decent guy (I don’t like him denying Huni her dinner when he scolded her for lying/recklessness, but it’s pretty obvious he was struggling a LOT with grief during that time). Not only does he prioritise the tribe’s safety over tradition (I wanted to watch him argue more with Wayna 😩), Kinich himself says the tribe needs people like Trinidad, which emphasises that he’s an okay person!
If anything, he’ll denounce the other members of Camp Two, being like ‘don’t be disrespectful even if you don’t like him! Be the better person!’ and then turn around and guiltily wank to humiliating Kinich 😳 We also don’t know if he has a living spouse, but if he does, I’d love to imagine his partner being supportive in his desire to wreck Kinich. They’re usually monogamous but because Kinich is THAT annoying they decided to make an exception for him HAHAHAHAHA
If they’re going to do it, Kinich’s going to have to be the one initiating. Once he’s serving himself up on a silver platter, though, there’s no way in hell Trinidad will be able to resist. That’s when all the nasty stuff will come out!! The most tame it’ll be is Trinidad aggressively fucking his mouth so he can’t talk back, scolding him with stuff like ‘Not only are you some Mora-obsessed degenerate, you’re also a loose slut! You can’t be further from a hero!’ While Kinich’s just. Super turned on plus super amused at how mad Trinidad is! The more aggressive end of their sessions can get highly physical, with scratching, biting, slapping etc.
Now I can’t get the mental image out of my head: Trinidad sitting on the edge of a bed, face in his hands, dying of guilt/horror/denial/shock at just having the most mindblowing sex with someone he hates. Post nut clarity in its finest. Meanwhile, Kinich’s staring impassively at Trinidad’s naked, scratched-up back planning to goad the elder into fucking him again 🤣
What would their ship name be actually. Trinich? Trikinich??

As I said, any with the asterisk are replaceable with any of the ideas above. Please feel free to suggest different ideas, if I like them I might go crazy and write a day .5 or just switch something out.
Generally, each will include the reader as the main character using second pov (so you/your) so most should be gender neutral, but with some of the chapters the reader would use specific biology so the chapters where it is relevant I will call it out. If there are any pronouns used, they will be they/them, if I slip up please lmk. Always open to constructive criticism, as the main purpose of this challenge is actually to have me learn to write a variety of different characters + scenarios that are briefer than 10k words per chapter in a shorter period of time.
Wherever you are and whoever you are, I hope you have a good day!

I enjoued your recent Zatanna post! Do you have any recs for someone who wants to know about the character?
Dini's Zatanna series is probably the best choice for what to read if you want "baseline" Zatanna adventures.
Morrison Seven Soldiers was my first Zatanna story, and while it's explicitly one featuring a Zatanna who is depressed and needs to get her groove back, it's sooooo good.
Tynion and Ram V's Justice League Dark series are both excellent showcases for her as part of a team, and it gave us the Zatanna/Diana friendship
Zatanna & The Ripper Webtoon was enjoyable, very much a YA Zatanna however
I remember her having a few appearances in The Books of Magic. I think her appearance in the main series was good, in the first mini she also had a few good scenes with Tim Hunter where she explained her perspective on magic. Had to get bailed out by Constantine from a bunch of evil magicians in that first mini, which might put you off.
Never read the New 52 JLD, heard it's good
Swamp Thing #50 by Alan Moore is where her father dies and shows her first time meeting Constantine from a "real-world" perspective.
Tynion had a great arc with her in his Tec Rebirth run that explores her relationship with Batman (also she practically solos a military organization that had the Batfamily on the ropes which was awesome)
Oh and while it's not finished I heartily recommend Zatanna: Bring Down the House

Hey I'm sorry but I read all your posts about In a Windless Land today and it's all I've been thinking about all day for various different reasons so now, if I may ask, what is Jean and Lisa's relationship like in this AU? :>
Also, it might not be the most plot relevant thing, but I was very curious about the bit about Jean and Diluc's past where Diluc accidentally burned Jean when he first recieved his Vision... What happened?
Haha, I'm glad you think it's fun! :>
The exact details of Jean and Lisa's relationship are kind of up in the air still? Despite initially positing this as a Jean/Kaeya AU, I have given in to the urge to make Kaeya aromantic again here, which has serious magical and ritual implications (again, fairytale leanings here--"true love" is an actual magical force that Kaeya assumes he's shut out of), but also means the relationship that develops between them isn't a romantic one but a partnership of mutual respect. (Kaeya is trying very hard to make Jean happy in Khaenri'ah as its future Queen, not as his wife, which is a nice but vitally important distinction.) Which leaves the field open for Jean/Lisa, one of my favorite things! XD But also, Jean did not come here to ruin this alliance by cheating on her husband, and also I don't know how much space I'd have for that subplot, so it may not manifest within this story itself. Regardless, though, Lisa is Jean's counselor and guide throughout on how to be a surfacer (from Mondstadt, even) in Khaenri'ah, helping her navigate customs, attitudes, and, of course, the magic. She trusts and values Lisa a lot, and sees her as kind of a lifeline when she's overwhelmed, because Lisa will always pause what she's doing to pull out some tea and give Jean a comfortable space to relax. :>
(Diluc, on the other hand, deeply mistrusts Lisa, because he realizes when she's chewing him out over the names thing that she has some inkling about his brother and she won't tell him what it is. Which is why the librarian he ends up relying on is Enjou. Who is getting such a good grade in secret agenting for that particular coup. :3c )
As for that childhood burn, I honestly didn't have a lot of details in mind beside my persistent headcanon that Diluc, getting his Vision so young and having a temper, very likely had control issues around his Pyro when he was mad! I'd vaguely imagined it as something like, he and Jean were sparring, she was clearly winning and said something about it that really grated, and he inadvertently sent fire down his sword and scorched her. I didn't have a clear picture, though. Just that it was an unconscious lashing-out and the first time he'd actually hurt someone doing so, which was shocking and upsetting for them both.

Saviour - GN!Tav x Raphael
hey! so i'm still trying to write at english and I had two fics unpublished of Raphael. this is one of them, the other is a lil more spicy and i would share it eventually! gender neutral tav in a "you"/second person style to enjoy better ❤️ more info under the cut
i'm not fond of Raphael as i've used to, i saw him as a good villain, a "one you enjou to despise and hate", but had some fics from other point of view i had of him (until the triggers of his Hope's relationship came to light)
it's softer than canon raphael? i think its not ooc (not completly) but probably way too humanized and romantized. and enjoyable, i think! i adapted it to you or reader style with gn!tav, so you two could have a moment after Yurgir battle.
if there's any tag i missed, please tell me!

Thoughts on Kinich's quest:
- from the moment the quest started, where Kinich revealed that Trindad wants to kill the Mountain King, and Paimon and Traveler immedietaly went to "Oh no! Killing = bad!", with no mention of Enjou or Ajaw whatsoever, I knew this quest wasn't going to be as good as I hoped. I don't know why I had hope in the first place.
- I like Kinich accidentally entering a beastly rift and doing his own research on abyss stuff, without automatically knowing the names for things like most characters. It was pretty neat to watch him explain beastly rifts to Traveler and Paimon while referring to riftwolves as "purple dogs". It made me feel like I understood how his brain works a little better.
- actually, the funny thing about Kinich, as a Natlan character, being the one to do this research is that Natlan is the nation that is at war with the abyss. Like. This is literally the only nation where it would make sense for the average person to know what riftwolves are. This isn't reeeally a complaint, I just find it funny.
- I'm really not a fan of how killing the Mountain King was automatically seen as bad despite their suffering bc tradition is 'more important', but to be fair to the main conflict, it would've been much worse if we were supposed to see Trindad as a bad person. The writers didn't villainize him for not wanting his people to die bc of a tradition, and his point of view was treated as equal to the npc's that Traveler and Paimon agreed with, and that is pretty good for a Genshin npc.
- though, I am a little suspicious about how they're suddenly willing to do this for a light skinned npc, when Mualani's quest villainized a brown skinned npc in the same update.
- I do actually like the Turnfire Night plot. One of the only things I like about Natlan is that it combines the abyss lore and nation world building more than other places. I just feel like the writers can't decide whether they want Kinich to be morally gray (sending the MK to the ABYSS just to avoid killing it to Avoid Drama) or have great morals like the rest of the cast (Traveler and Paimon being so focused on killing = bad that they don't have a problem with this).
- I am extremely annoyed at the fact that a decent chunk of this quest was spent helping npc's and giving Traveler over-the-top praise while Kinich did the actually important stuff. I don't care about these guys! I care about Enjou and the abyss! This isn't even about the turnfire night! We already do this kind of stuff in every single world and archon quest, for fucks sake!
- why do we learn how Kinich and Ajaw met from a random npc? Who just brings it up out of nowhere?? Why??
- it's not that important I guess, but Kinich calling Paimon gentle natured was the stupidest thing ever. I can forgive him bc he's comparing her to Ajaw and hasn't seen her be bitchy yet, but please don't tell me that the writers actually see her like that. She's an asshole.
- in comparison to the Turnfire Night plot, what little we got of Enjou and Ajaw was suuuuper interesting. I am loving whatever they have going on (and Ajaw's lore overall), and I wish we got more of it instead of fooling around with less important npc's. I am very glad that Enjou is back, but that makes it sadder that he's probably going to be forgotten about again.
- it took me a second to realize that his name changed to The Thing Calling Itself "Sanka". That's a neat little detail.
- "cliche, I know - the hero's trusted partner sells him out to the Abyss in a shocking act of betrayal. Cue bad-guy speech and drawn-out death sequence..." "Abyss Boarding School" "I could never beat you in a straight-up fight, but when it comes to running away, I won't lose to anyone" Enjou I love you.
- my favorite part of this entire quest is probably the fact that Enjou now, officially, has a relationship to a playable character other than Traveler. And man, is it a fun one. Deadpan, serious Kinich caught between silly little assholes Ajaw and Enjou both wanting to take his body is really fun. If Genshin itself refuses to expand on his relationship to Ajaw and Kinich, then I better see the fandom doing it instead.
- back to the Turnfire Night stuff, it's convenient that the Mountain King isn't corrupted anymore and decided to live. I wonder if the ending was just done like that bc the writers weren't sure what to do with a story where one side isn't necessarily wrong. Overall though, it's not that bad, just boring.
I'm enjoying making these overall thoughts posts. Maybe I should make more? There's no guarantee of me doing every single archon quest and story quest, though. Especially when I'm focusing on both Genshin and hsr.

I think one of the big reasons Genshin NPCs are perceived as so much more interesting than Genshin playable characters is... they’re ALLOWED to grow and change in radical ways.
Ruu has an arc about realizing he’s dead, about finding peace and bringing it to Kapatcir, and then finally moving on. Zhiqiong struggles with her mundanity, her mortality, recklessly pushing its body far beyond its limits in a bid to be remembered. Jeht is lively and curious and friendly and gets quickly attached to Benben, but also struggles with her father’s past and the place she belongs. Neko sits idylly on her island, waiting for the day Hibiki, who died hundreds of years ago, will return to her. Gendou Ringo has a great hidden quest about being a Fatui Spy but wanting to live a normal life as a shrine maiden, being helped by a begrudging Momoyo, and there’s also Katarina and the Company of Fatui, hell, Enjou.
They’re allowed to have full, lengthy arcs and to radically change their life situations. Gendou Ringo defects from the Fatui and becomes a Shrine Maiden. Katarina and Zhiqiong vanish and may be dead. The Company’s fate is uncertain, but not optimistic. Rana goes off adventuring with a Vision and Arana. Enjou reveals himself as part of the Abyss Order, Ruu leaves the world...
I think the reason why the NPCs tend to be more interesting is because they’re allowed to have complete arcs. They’re allowed to be ‘retired’, to go off somewhere where the Traveller cannot follow. While the playables are all stuck in just... a limbo. Sometimes their development is tied to Archon Quests or Character quests, but only two out of the 64 playable characters (not counting the Traveller) get sequels to their character quests. And of those two, only Ei gets to make significant character development in her sequel.
Amber, Kaeya, Diluc, Razor, Xinqiu, Lisa, Mona, Jean. They were some of the first characters to get Character Quests. Do they get sequels? Do they change radically and make life-altering decisions? No. Have we learned what Childe is doing, if he no longer remembers Scara to track him down? No. They’re all generally in the same places we left  them. With the same significant relationships. They appear in Events, and those Events can pair them up with characters we don’t usually meet for fun dynamics, or reveal previously unknown past info like Razor’s parents or Kaeya and Diluc’s letters. But the Rifthounds in Wolvendom don’t get followed up on, Kaeya and Diluc retain generally the same relationship. These things are interesting, but ultimately treated as skippable and will be summarized in the main quests.
It’s not just that all the playable characters have to be considered ‘marketable’. They have to believably be in a place where the Traveller can ‘reach’ them, so they can still be rolled or show up in events.
Take Dain and Scara, for example. Scara spent a long stint as an unplayable character. Dain still isn’t playable. Scara quickly won a lot of fans’ hearts, not just because he was allowed to act like something of a bastard, but before he became playable he showed up in four different regions for varying reasons. Then what’s the final thing Scara does before he officially becomes ‘playable’? Establish that he’s staying with Nahida now, allowing the Traveller a place to conveniently find him in future Archon Quests, and possibly a reason to show up in Sumeru-based temporary events. Likewise, Dain exclusively shows up for Archon Interludes, appearing and disappearing across the continent, being the one to seek out the Traveller, rather than allowing us to find him. Before becoming playable, both Scara and Dain are allowed to have their own quests, goals, and adventures separate from the Traveller, but upon being made playable Scara’s development is made to scale with the Traveller’s journey and progress.
This is a little rambly and disorganized I expect, and I’m sure it’s not the only reason, but I think it’s a possible theory about why it’s like that. If the writers felt they were allowed to, say, have Thoma pack up and return to Mondstadt, that would be breaking the status quo, because he may not make it back for the next Irodori festival. If Razor decides it’s time to leave his Lupical and journey to track down the Abyss Order, that would be breaking the status quo, because now he can’t be there for Windblume.
And boy do gacha games struggle with character development and the status quo.

Note
reverse heart!reader is like the abyss sibling, cold and distant, solely devoted to accomplishing their goal and protecting cyno
and what would happen if they did succeed? found out a way to get cyno his half back and sacrificing themself
which he did, his heart whole again and no longer having the side effects. and yet, why does he feel so empty when he's staring horrifically at his beloved's dead body in the temple
not to mention since his emotions are no longer dulled, the despair he feels are a hundred times stronger
well i think that's enough angst for now
to make up for it imagine if there's another route where cyno somehow managed to get reader to give up their goal and come back to him (it's going to be extremely hard though, they're just as stubborn as he is when it comes to each other)
it's going to be rocky at first seeing how all those years in exile and isolation made them detached from their emotions but he's always patient for them and willing to help them as much as he can
and maybe finally going to therapy
-cyno lovebot anon
And the spirit inside them is Enjou sksksksks no but in all honesty, the spirit is the one actually trying to help them to go back to Cyno, not just because it's nigh impossible to undo the contract but also they know this form of self-imprisonment is not good for them at all
Besides that gut-wrenching, heart breaking scenario you just laid out while he desperately clings to their body ignoring the cold and the disgusting wetness of the blood clinging to him as he wails for them to come back, the spirit also would transfer to him. It would at least be able to tell him everything that he doesn't remember or missed, and so far this ending best ties in with the canon of the game
In THIS significantly better route however, Cyno would bring reader to Aaru Village so that Candace and even Dehya can befriend and support them when he's gone <33 they need friends, strong and responsible people (to stop them from running away again) You can imagine how they act like a humble child when faced with any sort of kindness and warmth, even a nice decent meal would get them tearing up cuz they've been holed up in the temple for years
It's therapy in the form of positive energy, and Cyno who's primarily in the desert (lives there too) can come home daily to his favorite person. It does take a while because their 'relationship status' had to be shoved aside to help them acclimate to the current world properly, love comes naturally and not forcefully with time
Just think of how happy Cyno would be at seeing them growing roses with Sabbah, playing race with the kids, doing patrols with Candace, and finally learning and teaching with Setaria. He'll be crying without realizing as he stared in silence, never in a million years would he have thought this would be possible, when just a year or two ago, everyone he knew kept telling him to move on from a possibly dead crush

Genshin Impact x Hades Crossover
TBD with Murata and the Tsaritsa, but I thought it's far enough along to at least make a start on this.
Traveler (either Kong or Ying by choice) as protag, going through the stages to get answers about their sibling.
Decided to combine or split the character roles.
House of Hades/Mondstadt: Starting area, get teleported back every time you 'die' in a run. Shops, currency exchange, quest bulletin board, get your own house? to decorate and show off collections and accomplishments. Should be very pretty. Maybe a fake sky?
Characters in this area:
Xiao and Ganyu as Thanatos and Hypnos, generally hang around and offer gossip (or ". . ." I suppose in Xiao's case). Both occasionally show up in your runs to offer help, Xiao offers you a challenge the same as Thanatos, Ganyu offers a complete heal. Each can only appear once per run, although they may not appear at all.
Katheryne as Hades, hanging around always doing paperwork. She makes commentary on your run, like Hypnos except much more obviously sarcastic. She also gives out challenges/bounties and you can purchase decorative upgrades from her. (I originally was going to put Jean here, for the paperwork, but Katheryne seems to make more sense.)
Noelle as Dusa, mostly just commentary and can increase relationship values here.
Diluc as Achilles, offers combat advice as you try out new weapons and boons. Maybe also offers to spar with you for practice? Unlike Skelly, he fights back though.
Dori as the Wretched Broker, exchanging artifacts for currency or vice-versa. She also takes the place of Charon during the runs, offering items, boons and artifacts in return for currency, either in person or at shops. Maybe an extra boss if you steal from her, but not THE bonus boss.
Skirk as Nyx, more commentary, maybe the one who advances the plot?
~~~
Tartarus/Liyue: First hostile area, shown mostly underground, as opposed to Mondstadt. Mostly dark with gold accents, very luxurious looking (as opposed to Tartarus appearance of a prison).
Dainsleif is the merchant in this area, implied to be sneaking around for unknown reasons and should drop hints in conversation on how to advance the plot.
The boss for this area is an Abyss Lector, either one or a combination of Enjou, Egill and Agnarr. Enjou would be the only one who really talks and is friendly to the Traveler. None of them show up in Mondstadt.
~~~
Asphodel/Fontaine?: Definitely full of rivers, maybe frozen over. Elegant in appearance, lots of fountains.
The merchant is Faruzan. She's in a comfortable, luxurious palace with lots of resources, but implied to be stuck only in the palace and ironically without the items/artifacts she needs to get out. While normal items can be purchased with the regular currency, advancing the relationship with her would involve bringing her artifacts so she can build something that would allow her to escape.
The boss for the area would be the All-Devouring Narwhal.
~~~
Elysium/Sumeru: Rooms should alternate between jungle and desert decorations. (I really wanted to do Mondstadt here instead, but I decided it worked better as the starting area.)
Kaeya is the merchant in the area. He's a lot more snarky than Patroclus but maybe some hints of depression still. Advancing both his and Diluc's friendship points means helping them rebuild their relationship, usually by passing messages back and forth to each other. (Personally, I'd like the idea that you can make choices to tilt the relationship to be either romantic or familial, but we know that developers would never go for it.)
La Signora and Childe are the bosses, with La Signora being the Theseus expy and Childe as Asterius. NB: while La Signora shows both Pyro and Cryo abilities and Childe Electro and Hydro, they can only summon the Tsaritsa for an aid attack. Maybe stick a relationship path with Childe, maybe advancing by doing certain challenges?
~~~
Temple of Styx/Greece: Not sure what to put here. It would either be Khain'rieh or Celestia, neither of which have been seen yet.
Cerberus would be Durin, except instead of finding a Fetid Sack, you'd pick up a Mondstadt souvenir instead.
The final boss is the Traveler's sibling. Each time you defeat him or her you get a chance to ask one of three questions. But not all questions advance the plot and if you choose the wrong one, well you just have to go again. Not sure what causes the Traveler to return to the beginning each time.
