Wei Wuxian has enough of getting whipped for no valid reason and starts standing up for himself (not just verbally, and especially NOT just talking back while still accepting punishment) but by attacking back or some other form of brutal revenge. 

a modern AU where jiang yanli and/or jiang cheng cut off contact with their parents for their treatment, anything where they put themselves and their brother above their abusive parents

Lan Zhan does not accept his punishment and kills(or at least successfully fights off) any elder that attempts to whip him.

1. How many works do you have an AO3? Lol. Lmao even. 289.

2. What's your total AO3 word count? 914,620 on AO3, but that includes co-writes as well as things I've podficced where the fic and pod are in the same work. My actual personally-written wordcount, per my Batshit Spreadsheet, is 771,819.

3. What fandoms do you write for? Mostly RWRB these days, though most of my back catalogue is Schitt's Creek. Also The Pairing and various other things scattered about.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Kinda think that I might be his type aka Alex and Bea fake date coming in at the top spot, which will never not bewilder me. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely fic!! But I am always surprised that it was a few hundred more kudos than:

We were supposed to find this - baby's first soulmate AU and my first RWRB fic. The brainrot really took hold with this one lmao.

Warm like the glow that you feel head to toe, the age gap fic with older Senator Alex and younger Prince Henry. This is probably the only one in my top five that really surprises me, considering age gaps are... divisive.

5. Do you respond to comments? Always always always.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I mean I did write that one MCD fic in Schitt's Creek, though I maintain the other five parts in that 5+1 are in fact angstier than the MCD ending.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Uhhhhhhh, the rest? The Doylist answer is any of my fics where the HEA is literally forever rather than 'till death do us part'; so, the Schitt's Creek afterlife AU and the RWRB zombie!Alex AU. (Is that all? Am I forgetting one?)

8. Do you get hate on fics? Yeah, sometimes. Weirdly, more through tumblr anons than on the fics themselves? A lot of them I just delete, sometimes I'll give them a bit of a public scolding etc. Frankly at this point if you come into my ask box to be a cunt on anon I'm going to assume you have a public humiliation kink and will indulge you accordingly.

9. Do you write smut? Who's to say.

10. Do you write crossovers? I'm more inclined towards a fusion than a crossover (love a good media fusion) but I did write a short RWRB/The Pairing crossover for VoiceTeam.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope. Someone did ask recently, so we'll see!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? HEAPS. @ships-to-sail is an ongoing collaborator, but I also did a bunch of "each write a chapter" type collabs in Schitt's Creek. Currently co-writing something truly fucking incredible with @indestructibleheart.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? IDK if it's a WIP by the strictest definition, but every day the likelihood of the SC kink!verse series being completed slips further away lol.

16. What are your writing strengths? Rae, you're the worst.

Smut, I guess? Giving people new kinks, apparently. Character voice. Also a very specific type of world-building where I explain nothing because the characters already live in that world and let y'all infer how it works, which came up a LOT on one of this year's Kinktober fics in particular and led to my spouse saying "okay so you're basically the Brennan Lee Mulligan of tree fucking", which is sure not a sentence I expected to ever be directed towards me, but here we are.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Anything original, apparently. Good thing I didn't quit my job to be a writer or anything OH WAIT.

(In all seriousness, though, I am genuinely shit at, like, plotting. And action sequences.)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? If it makes sense for the character, sure! I'm enlisting someone who speaks it for anything more complicated than, like, a pet name - I've seen what Google Translate tries to spit out for my second language and therefore don't trust it lmao.

19. First fandom you wrote for? terf queen mcgee's property.

20. Favourite fics you've written? The RWRB fic specifically based on the episode The Husbands of River Song from Doctor Who. Hands down the best thing I've ever written.

I also fucking LOVED the Much Ado actor AU. My love letter to Shakespeare and theatre and queer joy.

Just like father

Here it is, my first written work in maybe 6 years. It's a Tad Spencer chapter in the 'Young Volcanoes' series, which gives glimpses into the lives of the various students at Bullworth Academy. I hope you all enjoy, let me know what you think!

Characters: Tad Spencer, Gord Vendome, Vance Medici

Summary: Tad, already not having the best day, runs into his parents in Old Bullworth Vale. After a small conversation, his mother mentions he reminds her a lot of his father. One of the worst things you could tell him, he becomes distressed after hearing the remark and completely shuts down. His thoughts become intrusive. Is he really that much like his father? And if he is, what does that say about him?

TWs: Tad refers to the physical abuse he receives at the hands of his father multiple times during the chapter. Please be warned!

It was chilly outside, even for an autumn day. Tad Spencer wrapped his scarf tighter around his neck, shivering from the cold. By God, why did I let Gord drag me here, he thought to himself.

His best friend, Gord Vendome, had been dating the greaser Vance Medici for quite some time now, much to the other preppies’ chagrin. Everyone with a working brain knew the preppies and greasers were sworn enemies, divided by their class and wealth. The preppies were among the richest people in Bullworth, their fathers ran most of its businesses or were the lawyers defending said businesses when they were inevitably revealed to be exploiting their employees. Meanwhile, the greasers lived in the run-down New Coventry district, riddled with homeless people, graffiti and crime. A place no self-respecting preppy would dare set foot in outside of the occasional turf rumble or spot of vandalism.

And yet, Gord had. And look what he had gotten out of it. After last year’s little adventure with Lola Lombardi, one would think Gord had had his fill of poor people. But clearly, he had not. After a particularly grueling fight with his father, who had once again insisted on his son becoming a lawyer while Gord wanted to go into fashion, he had taken a walk around town. Gord and his father had a comparatively good relationship, better than most of the clique had with their fathers, but they constantly bickered over Gord’s future. Annoyed and needing to think, his friend had sat down on a bench to ponder, when he was approached by Vance. What had begun as Gord just needing to vent to someone, ended in a reluctant friendship, that then evolved into a relationship. Which is what led to this moment. Gord wanted his friends to be more accepting of his relationship with Vance, like the greasers had – begrudgingly – accepted him. They had not been very forthcoming, however, so Gord had decided to try and convince them one by one. Tad, as Gord’s best friend, was first on the list.

They had been drinking coffee at one of the little coffeeshops in the shopping district of Old Bullworth Vale, Gord and Vance merrily chatting away with Tad trying his best to join in on the conversation. It was a Saturday afternoon, but due to the cold, few people were actually out and about. Nobody of note would see Tad spending time with a greaser, so that made him feel like he could relax a little. He had found that Vance was not so bad, but he was afraid they just might not have much in common.

‘So, Vance, would you mind telling me a bit about yourself?’ Tad asked politely, accent on full display.

‘Uh, well, I live with my grandparents. My pa is in jail and my ma ran off when I was four. They’re great, so I work at the movie theater to help them out with money ‘n stuff.’ Vance smiled at Tad warmly, which made Tad uncomfortable. He dealt badly with receiving affection.

‘Isn’t Vance simply dreamy. He is so incredibly kind,’ Gord said, looking at Vance with admiration in his eyes. Tad felt nauseous.

It wasn’t as if he didn’t want Gord to be happy, mind. He just could do with a little less public display of affection. Then again, Tad might have just been feeling jealous. He didn’t have anyone in his life he could show affection to. And even if he had, his father had taught him that there were certain expectations from someone of their status with regards to public behavior. It was poor taste to behave like lovesick schoolgirls when others could see you, that much Tad had learned. Not wanting to think about his father and hypothetical relationships, he decided it would be best to think of an excuse to go. He had enough of greasers and love for one day.

Rising to his feet, he once again wrapped his scarf tighter around his neck, flicking a speck of dust off his Aquaberry sweater. ‘Why, Gord, Vance, I must go. This was very enjoyable, but I have other things to attend to.’ He smiled politely at Vance, leaned in to give Gord a quick hug and started to walk away when he suddenly heard a voice call out. ‘Tad, darling, is that you?’

He froze. He recognized the voice as belonging to his mother. Which only meant he was not far behind. He reluctantly turned around to see his mother walk towards him from where she stood in front of the Aquaberry store. Indeed, the man that was his father walked up right behind her. ‘Son,’ he said simply, giving a small nod.

‘Hello, father.’ Tad felt all the strength leave his legs. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Gord tense up, looking at the Spencer family, completely on guard. Vance looked confused at his boyfriend’s sudden change in behavior.

His mother, ever oblivious to her surroundings, enveloped her son in a hug. ‘Tad, dear, it has been so long since I’ve seen you. Why don’t you ever come and visit, we live in the same town!’

‘Oh, mother, you know how busy I get. I have been so caught up in my studies.’ He tried to ease the tension by waving a hand in the air and trying – and failing – to force a smile. His mother knew very well why he hardly ever came home and why he chose to stay at Harrington House most of the time. She was just very good at pretending otherwise. Tad didn’t necessarily think she approved of his father’s treatment of her son, but she was as obsessed with the Spencer family image as her husband and so it was easier to pretend nothing ever happened. ‘Roughhousing’ is what she called it. ‘Typical boy behavior.’ Once, during an evening event hosted by the Harringtons, her friends asked her how Tad had gotten his most recent black eye. She had told her friends Tad had accidentally caught a baseball in his face during a training session between her ‘two boys’, neglecting to reveal the actual reason he had a black eye was because his father had learned he had lost a boxing match against his friend Bif. No love was lost between his mother and him, but she treated him with more kindness than his father, and he took the small victories wherever he could find them.

‘How are your studies?’ his father asked him bluntly, shaking Tad from his thoughts.

‘V-very well, father. I am top of my class in English, math and history.’ He felt even more nauseous than before. Please, father, let me go.

‘So you are not at the top in your other classes?’ said his father, ever the pessimist.

Gord chimed in at that. ‘He is second-best, Mr Spencer! And he is giving many of our friends a run for their money in the boxing ring!’ His father seemed to soften a bit at that. Thank you, Gord. He could kiss his friend for saving him.

Mr Spencer looked at Gord and noticed Vance sitting next to him. He eyed the greaser like he was something nasty he had stepped in. He looked back at his son. ‘Very well. Keep up the work, son. You know I will not tolerate failure. And you and Gord might need to reconsider who you are spending time with. It would not do for us to be associated with the vermin from the wrong part of town.’ His eyes contained an icy glare. Tad whimpered. He was still shaking, but no longer from the cold. That was a threat, and he had better believe his father would act on it.

‘I will, father, thank you.’ He would have to apologize to Vance later, but right now he needed to get out of this conversation without angering his father.

‘That’s my darling boy! So much like his father, ever the go-getter!’ his mother said. The color drained from his face, hearing that final comment. She gave him one last hug, before she and his father walked off. Tad had seen her move in to hug him, at least. But he had not felt it. He felt nothing.

As soon as his parents had turned the corner, Tad’s face fell. He began breathing heavily. Like my father. She said I am like my father. His mother’s remark kept spinning in his head. He faintly noticed Gord grabbing his hand, trying to make contact with him. Tad stepped away, flinching, and instinctively covered his face with his hands. ‘No!’

‘Tad? Are you with us?’ Gord spoke calmly, kindly. Vance, known for being the biggest empath among the greasers even outside his own clique, had caught on what was going on and tried to move towards him. Tad could not have that. He could not let anyone get close to him.

‘I-I… I must go. Yes, I have to… Yes, go.’ He could barely form coherent sentences. He turned around and walked away quickly, ignoring Gord and Vance calling his name. He needed to go home. To safety.

The walk to Harrington House was short at the tempo Tad walked, but he wouldn’t have noticed. His mind was racing.

Like my father. I am like my father. My mother said I’m like father. I am like father. It was a mantra. Memories flashed before his eyes, vivid as if they had happened yesterday. His father stood before him, knuckles bloodied. Tad was on the floor, nose bleeding and left eye throbbing. Tad could not tell what had happened before, so many nights were spent the exact same way that he had trouble remembering all the details of every incident. ‘Daddy, please!’ he remembered pleading. His mother was crying at the dinner table. ‘Are you telling me I deserve what is happening to me, son? What do you know about the business I run? You foul, miserable, little shit.’ A kick, Tad struggling to get up, another punch in the jaw. Cries of ‘daddy!’, sobs from his mother, growls from his father. Like my father. I am like my father.

By the time he reached Harrington House, silent tears were streaming down his face. He brushed right past Parker and Justin, who turned to greet him but fell silent upon seeing his expression. He ignored Derby calling for him from the sofa and walked up the stairs to his room. His safehouse. He spent all of his nights here in this room. He did not dare go home if he didn’t need to, while his assigned dorm room was filthy and one he had to share with Casey from the football team, a big oaf of a guy that had no concept of what it meant to be clean. His room was his safe haven. In it, he did not need to be anyone other than Tad. He could drop the accent, he could be free from the expectations of his peers. He did not have to pretend to be old money, he could enjoy partaking in hobbies that were not fit for someone of his status. Most of all, he was safe from his father.

He locked his door and paced back and forth, hands in his hair. Like my father. I am like my father. He looked at himself in the mirror. He had his father’s eyes. His hair color. His small build. I am like my father.

His mother had been right. He remembered the last time he was in a fight. It was against a greaser, Ricky or Lefty or whoever. He had been so filled with rage. He had been punching, kicking, whatever it took to take his opponent down. He had seen red. It had felt like he needed to go the extra mile to ensure his survival. Like this fight was a matter of life and death. When he had regained his senses, the greaser was completely knocked out on the ground. His face bloodied and bruised. He had not looked unlike Tad himself usually did after facing his father’s wrath. That proved what his mother was saying. He was like his father. Just as violent and full of hatred. No regard for the lives of others. Did not blink at the thought of beating someone into submission.

He was going to be sick. He ran over to his sink and threw up. I am like my father. Wiping his mouth with a sleeve, he leaned against the wall and slid down, pulling up his knees under his chin and rocking back and forth. I am just as violent as he is. When I have kids, will I be the same? I have hurt people, too. He was terrified of his father, and he was convinced his children would be terrified of him. He had beaten that greaser to a pulp. Who’s to say that wouldn’t happen again? He cried softly. He could not block out his thoughts. I am like my father.

He did not know how long he had been sitting in the corner of his room, rocking back and forth, completely consumed by his thoughts. But he looked up at the door when he heard a soft knock. That was Gord’s knock. He had a knock he only used when knocking on Tad’s door. When he didn’t want to see other people and wanted to be left alone, he would know it was his friend outside, and he could decide whether he would let Gord in or not. That way, he wouldn’t accidentally open the door to his other friends and be forced to think up an excuse to lock them back out. ‘Tad? Are you in there?’ he heard Gord’s voice.

‘Y-yes,’ he replied faintly.

‘May I come in?’

Tad nodded silently, then said ‘yes’ when he realized Gord could not see him.

The door opened slowly and in walked Gord. With Vance. Tad did not need that. Vance could not see him like this, hiding in the corner, curled up like a child, crying. The greasers would surely find out and that would ruin his reputation. That would definitely anger his father. ‘Gord, for the love of God, can’t you go somewhere without him for once?’ He sounded more angry than he had intended. I am like my father.

Gord ignored the remark, walked to Tad and knelt in front of his friend, grabbing his hand and stroking it softly. That seemed to calm him down a bit. ‘He insisted on coming, Tad. He told me he knew of a way to help.’

He looked up at Vance, eyes red from crying. The greaser looked at him. Not with pity or condescension, like he expected, but with understanding. He let Gord drag him to his feet. ‘H-How?’

‘Mio dio, Tad, I told ya my pa was in jail. I know a thing or two about dads not being dads. I hated hearing my nonna say I looked like my pa. I am nothing like him. But I didn’t believe that for a long time. C’mere.’ He took Tad’s hand and walked him in front of the mirror.

Tad didn’t want to look. ‘Please don’t make me.’ But Vance was unrelenting. He gently guided Tad’s face towards the mirror with a finger under his chin. ‘Look.’

Tad once again looked into his father’s angry eyes. ‘I look like my father. You have seen the man, you can tell.’ He felt sick again.

‘Do you? I don’t think so. Look again.’ Tad did so hesitantly. Vance put a hand on his shoulder. ‘Ya might think ya look like your pa, but I don’t see it. Look at your eyes. I only ever seen your pa once, but his eyes were cold, Tad. I almost wanna say evil. You don’t look evil. You are warm.’

Tad kept looking at himself. He focused on the eyes in his reflection and slowly but surely, his father’s icy, unrelenting glare turned into Tad’s own red, swollen eyes. Aside from the obvious fact he had been crying, his eyes did look a little warmer. Maybe Vance was right. The color slowly returned to his face and he got a bit of strength in his legs back. I am not like my father, I don’t look like him. He turned away. ‘Thank you, Vance.’

Vance grinned. ‘Anytime. A buddy o’ Gord’s a buddy o’ mine. The next time someone tells you that you look like your pa, look at yourself in the mirror and focus on the way you two are different. Ya will start to believe it at some point. Ya hafta trust me.’

Gord, feeling it was time to insert himself back into the conversation, walked up to Tad and hugged him tightly. ‘I am so, so sorry, Tad.’ They both knew Gord wasn’t the one that needed to apologize, but he appreciated his friends words nonetheless. Gord always made him feel safe. And Vance’s words rang true. It was sage advice.

‘Maybe Vance isn’t so bad,’ Tad said, smiling. ‘You are kinder than most of your friends.’ Vance blushed at the compliment.

Gord looked uneasy. ‘I am glad you think so, because we might need your help smoothing things over. We kind of rushed past them to get here, but Derby and the other chaps aren’t too keen on having a greaser in Harrington House.’ Vance rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

Tad chuckled. He still felt a spot of disgust when he glanced back into the mirror. Fear of his father, of being like his father, was something that he would carry with him for the rest of his life. But he recognized more of himself in his reflection. Maybe, with time, he would start to see Tad. Until then, he was glad to have Gord by his side. And he might have made a new friend as well. Vance wasn’t a bad guy. In the end, they had more in common than Tad thought.

Tad remained at Harrington House the rest of the day, in his safe space, with Gord. They had gotten Vance out via the window and apologized with a little white lie to Derby, who luckily didn’t press any further. They talked about Gord’s latest plan to get into fashion school without his father finding out, and watched one of the many musicals they had bought together over the years. Little by little, Tad felt better. Gord stayed with him in his room until Tad fell asleep. That night, Tad Spencer went to sleep without bruises, without fear, and a calm smile at his lips.

Finallyyyyy, chapter 7. I was dying waiting for it and now I'm already dying waiting for the next so I guess this week will be filled with rereading and rereading the whole fic until chapter 8 comes. Anyways here we go, thoughts on this one:

-Drew. Oh boy. I'm assuming we won't see him in chapter 8 since it'll probably be composed mostly of the day at the bar. The morning, then the bar itself, who ends up in whose bed; and you'll most likely add a lil flashback to something somehow relevant since you've done that for every chapter except 4. But so reunion in chapter 9? or 10? I don't know but I wanna see him reunite with Azzi and meet Stephie. Apparently he was irritated at Paige's decision to go to the GSV, the Drew from 6 years ago probably would've loved and encouraged the idea, if he hadn't come up with it himself. I feel like the fact it irritated him instead shows he's learnt to live without Azzi and the Fudds now, but like Paige wonders if he has, might've still not fully forgiven her and Azzi for taking that away from him. As in, I think it took him a lot of time to adapt and if he's angry at Azzi, it's really only cause he spent so much time missing her, if that makes sense. So if/when we get their reunion scene, I'm expecting him to first be angry, maybe throwing certain questions at Azzi before breaking down. I wonder if Stephie knows who Drew is? That picture is on the stairwell clearly, but maybe she's never really noticed him. If not, I'm really excited to see her reaction to a boy she has no clue about, hugging and possibly crying in the arms of the woman who's probably a sort of sister/mother to him, her mother. Basically, I really want some Drew, Paige and Azzi scenes and Stephie's reaction to the dynamic of the 3; and some Drew and Stephie scenes.

-"But she doesn’t quite know this place, couldn’t tell you where to find the sugar or where the utensils were kept" this was just written beautifully in my opinion idk, just wanted to show some appreciation for it.

-"“They’ve all missed you, you know,” Tallulah says softly, “they try not to do it too much around Azzi but it’s always ‘oh Paige would’ve loved this’ or ‘did you catch that bucket Paige made last night’." They try not to do it too much around Azzi. I just wanted to add this because I think it sorta confirms my suspicions that they might however do it around Stephie. The first time I sent in some of my thoughts on this fic I mentioned how I don't think it's a coincidence Paige and Stephie share so much in common. Though I did say it's Azzi probably passing Paige-like things onto her daughter, I think Stephie's simply grown up in environments that scream "Paige". I think it's beautiful how much her and Azzi have affected everyone around them, not just eachother. But it's also scary because it is about the 2 of them at the end of the day and if they start living separate lives they take away a person important in others' lives too, as we see with Drew, or the Fudds like Tallulah pointed out. I just hope Stephie doesn't have to lose Paige, I know we're guaranteed a happy ending (or maybe that's what you want us to think) but I hope there's never even a small period of time where Stephie thinks she's lost Miss Buecks.

-"“you’re thinking about her mother huh?”" "“your daughter has you wrapped around her little finger huh?”" I'm just a bit shocked that Ruthie guessed she was thinking about the girl's mother, not father. I feel like people's first assumption is that you're straight, the majority of the world is, does Ruthie know Azzi and Stephie? Or does she know Paige? Was just wondering, I don't know, maybe her gaydar's just on point.

-Drew appearance soon but I'm not fully sure exactly when because idk if y'all have caught onto this yet, but I actually don't outline the whole story beyond just the beginning - middle - end, everything else is just ideas that I fit in when it feels right. The Drew from 6 years ago was a little boy who still held onto hope for his favorite love story. But with time, hope turned into irritation and missing Azzi turned into being angry at Azzi because sometimes that's the only way to deal with the hate. I'm very excited to write both Azzi-Drew and ofc Stephie-Drew.

-I remember that ask! Paige is so entwined into the Fudd's and Azzi's life that even 8 years later, you can still see the remnants of her in their life and that's what Stephie has grown up seeing so really it's not surprising that some of that imprinted onto her as she has a little bit of Paige in her.

-See this is my lovely fantasy world where straight isn't just the normal and I have no other explanation for it. Ruthie does not know Stephie or Azzi lol. I'd like to think 2033 we can avoid straight as the default lol

Well, what a busy summer it's already been! Know I've been active here and there, but tbh, life has been crazy - both in good and in bad ways.

I still find solace in writing no matter what, so just wanted to post a tiny update about what I'm presently working on and what I want to work on eventually 🤗📖

Squarepants family fic

I'm currently working on a fic (mentioned here) that involves the Squarepants family. 🧽👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 What started out as a plot bunny has evolved into something much bigger, which (unfortunately) means it's been taking me a bit more time than expected.

Additionally, with all the lore and headcanons I'm including, this fic is becoming slightly longer than I originally thought. It was going to be ~6 chapters but I'm thinking it might go up to 7-8.

Hoping to share some teasers by the end of this month, but we shall see.

TLM AU fic

I've definitely said somewhere that I don't usually write/read full-blown AUs (i.e., not canon divergence), but I'm about to do something I never thought I'd do and try my hand at writing an AU fic. 🙌

As with many AUs in SBSP, it will involve humanization. However, it will also involve non-anthro critters that maintain cartoonish attributes (ex. Finding Nemo, Lion King [animated], etc).

Setting is probably ~1800's in a seaside kindgom/village. It won't be super accurate but I'm here to entertain, not educate - unless the opportunity presents itself in a fun way. 🤯

It isn't going to be the timeliest either lol, but it was somewhat inspired by this. 👀🧜‍♀️

I haven't even started drafting this, so no ETA yet.

To the surprise of no one, SquidBob is the main pairing. 😊

I haven't posted much original content for Sims, but I'm a total Simmer and I'd love to do more Sims storytelling at some point. Fun fact: my username was actually inspired by the Tragic Clown from the games. 🤡

The Sims 4 Werewolves did a great job on the lore so I've had this idea to write a story (maybe with screenshots?) based on that with my own made-up lore sprinkled in. 🐺There would obviously be a romance aspect because I'm a sucker for it and there's this "Fated Mates" feature that I just have to include. 💏

I would LOVE to talk about Soldier, Poet, King and the Brokeback Mountain AU!!

SPK first:

It's going surprisingly well considering how long it's been since I posted 😂! I've been working verrrry slowly on the next chapter - for most of that time I've had a very vague, general idea of how I want the story to go from here but fairly early on I hit a stumbling block with the specifics of actually getting it to go there. But I've very recently figured it out!! Shower thoughts to the rescue!! So now that I have the concrete idea I just need to write it, which as we all know is also at least half the battle. That being said, there's just shy of 5k words of the next chapter written already, and I'll probably end up doing at least another few thousand before the chapter's done and ready to post. And also, while I'm not going to actually commit to a chapter count because I still don't actually know for sure exactly how much story we have left before the end, I would like to get it done in under 20, which would mean at most 6 more chapters (or 5 that are currently not written at all)? And honestly it'll probably be fewer than that considering how much I try to cram in each chapter and how close we actually are to the climax of everything I wanted to do with this story.

And now the Brokeback Mountain AU, my beloved! Ugh I (mentally) fucking roll around in this fic like a pig in mud so often it's a little embarrassing, but actually sitting down to plot/write it? I keep ending up writing the OPCU instead for the Cowboy Vibes since they're much less depressing (which is why the OPCU exists in the first place) 😅

In case you've missed the few bits I've shared for it before, I've tentatively titled it 'I Wish I Could Quit You', which I've realized since doing is a quote I've slightly misremembered, so I might end up changing it to the actual quote - or I might just leave it! I like the way it flows as it is.

I haven't posted anything new for the AU in a while so I hope you'll accept this very short little bit of brainstorming I had in my notes app a while back about who Nie Mingjue (he's Ennis Del Mar in this AU) would marry and why:

"Nie Mingjue is already engaged to Wen Qing when he meets Xichen. They met as children thanks to their parents and they've kept in contact, bonding a little over the shared experience of being orphans raising their brothers. They're both too practical and busy to wonder if their mutual respect is affection or not so they've gotten themselves engaged recently, and by the time they marry that autumn he comes down off the mountain, they have (separately) talked themselves into thinking it's romantic love."

And as a thank you gift for asking, some brand new thoughts (well I've thought them before but haven't written them until now) about how I think their arc will continue!

I think Wen Qing sees Nie Mingjue's loneliness and anger, knows exactly where a lot of it comes from (though of course not all of it), but she still doesn't really know how to help. She's good at fixing him up when he comes home with the occasional injury from working such hard jobs, she's good at rubbing the tension out of his aching muscles at the ends of long, gruelling days, but something in her doesn't know how to be emotionally vulnerable enough to let him be vulnerable in return. They don't talk about his feelings, or hers. They have two daughters, and it doesn't do anything to fix either of their issues, it only makes them worse. By the time Xichen comes to visit and she sees her husband kissing this old 'buddy' of his with a desperate passion he's never once had for her, she's almost relieved, under all the hurt and disgust and anger. She stays with him because she doesn't know what else to do, but she knows him now and it taints everything, it makes her feel stupid and foolish and useless and her pride just won't allow this to go on for much longer. They fight more and more and more, and she finally leaves him when she can force herself to face the fact that it'll just have to be her and their girls against the world, and maybe that'll be better than being trapped in a tiny apartment with this enormous man who loves in a way she can't understand. Whatever this is, she can't fix it - she never could. As much as it hurts, and as furious as his issue makes her every time he lies to her to keep fucking his 'friend', she accepts the inevitable and files for divorce without telling him what she knows. Nie Mingjue never misses a single child support payment or his turn to take one or both of the girls, even when she knows he's broke or busy with his seasonal work.

You Tried to Be a Hero by highkingpenny. 16k, no explicit sex really despite the rating, but I loved the banter between Marc and Steven (still crying over Marc calling Steven his little noodle boy)

If you haven't already, I'd also say check out anything marcsteven that's been written by the AO3 writers TheCarrot, usurp, lostmagician, gloss, pardillo, nakimochiku, It's_brilliant_thor, kika444, and snapdragonpop007. I'll read anything they write, and total, they make up probably half of my reading list anyways.

And if you don't mind WIPS (most of these update semi-regularly), Consider the Flowers (They Don't try to look right) by sacrificeplay and Narcissus in Blue by chashuu are two of the fics that gave me the most Moon knight brain worms. Fall Into Line by Yersifanel is a beast of a fic that hurts so good, What the Right Hand is Doing by ErinPtah has been really interesting so far (and you might consider checking out their Cover of Knight series if you like crossovers and headspace polycule fic), and if you're looking for angsty Hate to Love fic, friight just posted the first chapter for Love Song for a Deadman (i'm assuming you have but if you haven't, also definitely check out their completed beast of a slowburn fic The Measure of Things.)

Hopefully this helps at least a little bit, anon! Like you, I'm starved for any and all new content, i swear I've been refreshing the ao3 tab since last march. hey, just came here to tell you that i'm so so relieved that i was able to find your blog again !! and your jane eyre au fanfic with silco !! honestly, 'bend but not break' was (and still pretty much is) one of my favourite fanfics ever; not aus or silco fanfics, i mean one of THE best fanfics i've ever read. cannot even begin to describe how sad i was when i lost the ao3 link, and when i wasn't able to remember your blog's url.

and it was a shame, because BBNB was just *chef's kiss* 🤌. i literally stayed awake until sunrise reading it the first time, already getting inpatient for the next chapter. and i think it's mainly because you capture silco so so well, and you get 'jane eyre'; and you capture the dreadful air of the novel, and those little acts of tenderness and romance... and your smut it's quite great too. like, i still can't get over The Opera chapter, even after all this time 👀👀

I am so very humbled. You have no idea. I'm still learning as a writer, and I am my own worst critic.

I'm sorry I haven't been online to respond to this earlier because I've been really sick with the flu and binge watching Poldark (again).

I've been technically writing fiction since 2015 and it's been a learning curve with each story. For some odd reason, historical eras seem to fit my style in writing. I can do modern but this era I feel like I can sink my teeth into it.

I'm a huge fan of gothic horror/suspense/romance. So, yeah, I guess you can see that in the choices I make.

I must admit I'm not all together happy with the last chapter of BBNB, I might want to change some things in that chapter before moving on (maybe because it might meld into the next chapter better? idk).

Even though I have approximately 5-6 chapters (depending on how big the chapters get, I'm terrible about posting novel-length chapters) left in Bend, it should be an emotional rollercoaster. There are soooo many things I have left to run with before it ends.

As of the lastest chapter, I'm deviating from Jane Eyre a bit, while still holding onto certain plot-points for context but I want to play more with the Regency Arcane/Silco's world.

I do have other ideas for Silco stories I want to write. One will deal with a younger, hot-head SIlco. Another I'm tempted to play with a Roaring 20's Underground.

Then I have a story that I'm developing into an original gothic novel. I have maybe too much on my plate. LOL

It's moments like this when I wish I didn't have to 'work' a regular job to pay the bills because I would literally write all day, every day.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you sending me this. It really does brighten my day. That may sound cliche, but it does. I admit I don't have the greatest self-esteem, but I'm working on it.

That someone likes something I've written that much to comment at all and tell me they're re-reading it... my heart is going to explode.

I am working on both Regency Silco stories. When my head doesn't feel like a fog-horn inside of a 100lb bowling ball, I should be in a better space to be creative. It's zapped when you feel exhausted. Working 60hr weeks lately probably hasn't helped my health any.

soooo the next chapter of How to Catch Snitches and Get Witches is just slightlyyyyy delayed because i decided to rewrite parts of the chapter. it just wasn’t flowing or working in the way i wanted it to, so i’m currently jigging it up a bit! this chapter is one i’ve been excited about for a loooooong time, so naturally i want to make sure it’s perfect! timeframe on when it will be posted: soon! in the next week kind of soon!

i have 16 chapters planned for this fic! which, i know, doesn’t sound like a lot, but the plot is really going to be picking up in the next couple of chapters so expect them to start getting longer!

the writing process for me varies a lot! with Snitches, initially it was only meant to be a one shot, so i didn’t really do any planning at first! i actually started writing it on a stream in a discord server - totally pantsing the whole thing, working only off the title i had and the idea that Draco Malfoy has published an autobiography, and Hermione Granger hates it. i quickly finished the first chapter and realised - this needs to be more than a oneshot. and it was then, after having already written chapter one, that i actually sat down and planned out the whole thing.

i really went into a lot of detail while planning Snitches, because i knew i wanted each chapter to tell it’s own “story” outwith the main plot, and to have each of them end with a book/letter addressed to Hermione. but beyond that, i had to figure out each characters’ motivations, and layer in the mystery of what is in that fucking book?! it was quite a process! and by the end of it i had a very lengthy plan of the entire fic, chapter by chapter, bullet-points falling out of the arse end of the document hahaha.

as for how far ahead i write before i begin posting…… i think i was about 3 chapters ahead when i started posting snitches, but now i am posting as i write. i didn’t stay ahead of myself for long *cries*

Chapter 5 of Shoot to Score originally had a first kiss between Jounouchi and Kaiba. But the entire section didn't feel quite right and felt like it was moving too fast. I ended up scraping the scene. I'm very happy with what I actually published, with their conversation on Donki, which I think better fits the fic's vibe. But here's a snippet from the version where they kissed as they walked home together.

Kaiba nodded, but his heart sank at the lack of an affirmative answer. "Do you not want to?"

Kaiba considered a few replies, but in the end, he thought it might be best to show the other boy. Jounouchi's eyes widened into saucers as Kaiba canted his head down and planted a chaste kiss to the blond's soft lips. It was over almost as soon as it started, but the brief contact electrified every nerve ending in his body, confirming he'd made the right decision. Jounouchi made a sound like a whimper when he pulled away.

Looking the blond dead in the eye, Kaiba said, "Because I've been thinking about doing that. And I'd like to do that again in the future if you don't object."

"Does that mean you like me?" Jounouchi latched onto the front of his shirt with a death grip that Kaiba didn't want to shake. His voice and hand trembled in unison.

The cicadas buzzed as the shadows on the street lengthened. Overhead, the street lights flickered on.

He had known Jounouchi for how long now? Almost two and a half months? What did he know about him beyond his name and age? Or that he was on the basketball team and lived with Mutou? He didn't even know what Jounouchi was studying at the university.

In fact, it was ridiculous how little he knew compared to how much Jounouchi knew about him. 336K (wow thats so much more than I thought it would be) - but this does count the 3 unrevealed and anon-ed fics so...

3. What fandoms do you write for?

I've written bits and pieces for a whole bunch of different fandoms, but mainly write for Harry Potter and I've only ever posted HP fics online.

4. Top 5 fics by kudos?

the ghost of you, it keeps me awake (currently unrevealed for rewrites); and a love that I dreamt of came to me at my worst; In Plain Sight; The Wedding Date; Just Mates

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes!! I adore receiving comments on my fics and try to respond to as many of them as I can (even if it sometimes takes me a while to get to it).

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I'm very much a happy ending writer (these characters already go through so much angst in canon, I can't help it) although I certainly enjoy building up some angst in the lead up to the happy ending... but if I had to pick probably my jilypad-if-you-squint entry into this year's Kill Your Darlings MCD fest flickering light in an endless night although I tried to give it somewhat of a hopefully ending, even if its not necessarily a happy one.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All the others lol. Haha but maybe you'll see me in hindsight I certainly spent more time with S/J after they are officially together in that fic than I usually do and there's like two chapters of smut/fluff to make up for the earlier angst.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Luckily, only few times (thank god for the small insular fandom that is prongsfoot <3), but it always hurts and turns me off writing for a period. I feel so sorry for any writer who has experienced it.

9. Do you write smut?

Sure do. Although, I do struggle a bit with writing it. I've also realised preferences sway towards the vanilla (with maybe a bit of voyeurism, exhibitionism thrown in), so that's usually what I feel comfortable writing :)

10. Do you write crossovers?

Nope. I wrote some dreadful Queer as Folk/HP crossovers as a teenager (which will NEVER see the light of day) but haven't for years and years.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! I was so thrilled that someone liked my work enough to do so.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No I haven't. I am quite insecure in my unfinished drafts so I think I might struggle to share that with someone in order to co-write, but maybe one day!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Can't go past Sirius/James. I've loved them for over a decade (which is insane) but Merlin/Arthur have been a close contender at certain times of my life <3

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

I want you to ruin my life I just lost steam on the project and it went in a direction that I wasn't completely happy with. I do feel guilty though, which is why its now on permanent hiatus and anon-ed lol.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Ummm... I think I can come up with a cool concept / AU idea once in a while.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing Endings is probably the thing I'm most annoyed with myself about at the moment!! Finishing projects without being distracted by new ones. Purple prose (probably), sometimes even I get tired when editing my ridiculously convoluted introspection scenes (although I think, or at least hope, i'm getting better at editing them down). Writing characters and POVs outside of the ones I'm most familiar with. Writing oneshots and actually keeping them at a reasonable length (see issues with endings lol). Self confidences... the list goes on.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?

I'd love to be fluent enough in another language to do so one day.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter, probably Harry/Hermione (but I didn't finish or post anything until fairly recently).

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Probably and a love that I dreamt of came to me at my worst, its probably the fic I've re-read the most and has so many of my favourite tropes in it. And idk I'm just really proud that I actually wrote something that long and managed to see it through and finish it.

Well I'm not writing much at all at the moment (bad menty health innit) but over the last year it's been pretty much entirely Top Gun Maverick, with some Assassin's Creed in the background just for funsies

I try to respond to every comment I get because I think it's common courtesy when someone's taken the time and effort to leave one. I'm a little bit out of practice though (kiss kiss kiss grovel grovel grovel @ those left on read in my inbox)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Blessed Are The Meek (FC5) maybe? A canon-compliant character study of Jacob Seed and his fucked up cult family has no iteration where things turn out well in the end.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I don't know actually - maybe Quiet Promises because I just really enjoy that ending and it's one of the only bits of published fic I've written I can reread and not want to edit more. If I ever finished writing the last chapter of Swim Until You Can't See Land it would probably be that but I'm just so very very lazy.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I had a tumblr anon one give me shit for not putting icemav in a fic but it was so fuckin weird to get I just deleted the ask. My brother/sister/comrade in christ I am the most niche rarepair stay-in-my-lane kind of fic writer. I am not a popular author in any fandom I write in. Why on earth would you think I care.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I try to write smut once a year when Eurovision sends me into my annual bisexual frenzy. It's not very good (my smut, not Eurovision)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Short answer is no. Long answer is no with the exception of a Pacific Rim/Assassin's Creed crossover which I keep as a never-to-publish deliriously self-indulgent writing exercise to dip into when I don't feel like being perceived through words. I've got a whole Hytham/Jacob thing going that I'm fucking feral for which is soooooooo big brained of me imo.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of. I've read fics before where I can pick up a clear influence from my work on theirs but nothing like a straight up copy + paste.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nah. I've considered translating my own fics into Scots but it feels like a lot of effort for the sprinkle of folks who might read it.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No but I wouldn't be against it. I did a lot of rp writing back in the day with OCs and I really liked the collaborative aspect of it.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

I don't pick favourites I love all my insane children equally. I will say most ships I gravitate towards have a doomed by the narrative / love doesn't conquer all but it's enough in the moment kind of dynamic and I can trace that back to some of my early favourites (Ten/Rose, Merthur) to now (Kassidas, Eivor/Vili, RebelCaptain, so on)

15. What's a WIP you'd like to finish but doubt you ever will?

For Those We Left Behind. I have a lot of love for that fic but it is very reflective of the time in my life when I started writing it (bouncing off the walls bored out my tits under lockdown.) Lots of enthusiasm and energy to pour into it but little patience or planning. I look back on it as an unwieldy, rambly thing. I still do pick at it (and want to keep updating) but if we're honest I don't think I'll ever quite reach the finish line beyond the pieces that are already firmed up in my head.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I can turn a tasty metaphor on occasion. I tend to think I have a strong handle on the characters I write the perspective of and put a lot of effort into making them feel true and honest to the source material.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Plot - there's a reason why I tend to write canon compliant/canon adjacent and it's because it gives me the bones of the canon to work from. Pacing is a perpetual struggle. My attempts at smut are laughable.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If it's done to serve a narrative purpose and/or show something about a character, sure why not. Absolutely abhor written out accents though (unless, again, for a very specific narrative/character purpose.)

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter and Stargate. There's probably still some 12/13 year-old Reiver fic floating around in the internet ether that I hope no one is ever subjected to again.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

I honestly don't have one - everything I've published I've loved at one point or another for a variety of reasons. Gun to my head I'll say Quiet Promises because I think it's one of the highest quality fics in my catalogue from an editing, pacing, and character perspective. Writing isn't about the technical skill to me though, it's about how it makes me feel and the audience feel, so no favourites here.

First of Wow. Second of I'm sorry I am a bit late I've been a bit busy but read it as soon as I could. So let's get into it��

It was so thrilling, the action and the suspense is amazing. You have me on the edge of my seat every time and this time was no different.

The flashback for jin was truly amazing. I loved the way you introduced it and after I read that I had to put my phone down for a second. It was so well written and it litteraly gave me chills.

I really like your writing style, you always get me sucked into the story and then I can't put my phone down and I can't stop reading. You always have just enough and just to little info and details to keep me on the edge of my seat and to keep me wanting more and more. I can not get enough.

I am really curious to know more about jungkook's backstory. Because when yoongi threw him against the wall he didn't react much. And there have been a few other scenes where you make it know that he doesn't show much emotion. So I'm curious why that is.

Also even though he was not mentioned this chapter, I am still rooting for jimin to join them.

Ow ow and I want yn to kick zeke his ass. I want her to become a full on badass and take revenge on him with yoongi by her side to support her and teach her some fighting and shooting. That would be so cool.

Sorry for my rant I will end it here😅.

Well if it wasn't obvious yet I really love this series, I really loved the chapter and I still think you shoul write a book😁

JIN'S FLASHBACK GAVE YOU CHILLS???? Damn, I knew that scene was good, but you always find a way to inflate my ego :))

I loved writing that scene, I mean obviously it's terrible and heartbreaking but I've had the idea for it since I started character mapping, and the more I wrote his character, the more it kind of developed on it's own.

And thank you so much, I try my best now to give as little answers while still keeping the questions relevant, I used to write just whatever was on the top of my head, but now that I think through and map out where I want stories to go before I start writing them, I find it's a lot easier to hold that suspense in place, you know?

And both Jungkook and Taehyung have very interesting personalities, and I'm very happy about that. I feel like a lot of fic's (no shade, because it's definitely something every writer has done, myself included) don't really put a lot of thought or depth into anyone but the protagonist and main love interest, but I really wanted them to all have full stories and complex personalities, so the actions they took to help y/n made sense, and wasn't just something thrown together for the sake of the story.

But Jungkook is very interesting, and I'm so glad you're curious to know more!

There will definitely be a Y/n kicks Zeke's ass scene. There's no way around it, she's a badass and he's a lil bitch and there's genuinely no way I could finish this story without that taking place.

Good thing about my new job is that I quite literally have upwards of 6 hours of downtime a night, and so far, I take turns between reading and writing, so I should be uploading more often than I have been in the past!

The next chapter is already mapped out and half written, though tbh I might rewrite it because I'm not in love with it, but with that being said I don't see a reason I shouldn't have it ready to upload within the next week or two!!

Fanfic Progress Update 152

Hello, it's Saturday! That means I'm doing an update on the stories that are currently in the works. Stay tuned for a sneak-peek for Keep the Cuddles Platonic -challenge at the bottom of this post!

Current WIPs:

Keep the Cuddles Platonic -challenge

Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog, movieverse

Summary: Doctor Robotnik is simultaneously touch averse and touch starved, which results in a plan to "get the touching needs over with" in the most efficient way he could think of: cuddles overnight, when he wouldn't be doing anything useful anyway. Agent Stone was not privy to the plan until they arrived at their hotel room for their business trip.

Progress: Chapter 1 is the current latest chapter and was posted on 16th of November. Chapter 2 is finished and will be posted on 23rd of November aka next Thursday. There is a sneak-peek into the chapter at the bottom of this post. Chapter 3 is in a complicated situation - it was supposed to be the last chapter, but it already reached a word count to match the previous chapters and is at a perfect point to end it, should I want to. So, I have two options: 1. I let this chapter be longer than the other ones and keep the fic to three chapters total. 2. I end the chapter at the natural cut off it's currently at and simply do a chapter 4 to finish the fic with. I'm thinking that option 1 will be Plan A, and I'll go with it if the fic gets finished in roughly 500 more words. If, however, the fic keeps going to a 1000 more words, I'll do a chapter 4 and just flesh it out until it matches the other chapters in length. In short: Good news, more story one way or another, woop!

I'm Signing in the Drain

Fandom: Sonic the Hedgehog, movieverse

Summary (temporary): Not many people know this, but Doctor Robotnik is actually deaf and uses hearing aids to make up for it. Agent Stone does not know this, he just kind of assumes he's told to learn sign language upon being assigned for some other, mysterious reasons, and not as a "just in case" measure.

Progress: This fic will have at least three chapters, maybe four. The second chapter is almost done, despite the first one not being written yet. I'm actually not sure if this fic will end up being Stobotnik aside from Stone being Big Gay as usual, cause Robotnik is being very aroace right now and I don't know if he'll give Stone a chance or not, as that is not really the point of the fic. Anyway, I wrote a bit more since the last update, but not enough to finish the chapter, as I focused on Cuddles.

Summary (temporary):

Wanted: a yesman who is capable of operating an espresso machine, has at least a higher IQ than your average amoeba, and is willing to put work before having a personal life, or indeed a life, period. The extra in your pathetic paycheck is good, but the strain in your psyche will make up for the positives. Forfeit your basic human rights and apply today if this sounds like you. 

Maybe it said something about Agent Stone - and probably not good things - that the poster in the cafeteria's pin board piqued his interest more than any of his official assignments had for a good long while. 

Dr. Robotnik, huh?

Progress: This one will be a longfic, probably around 20 chapters. It's a bit hard to estimate at this point, so the number is subject to change. Or I might cut this into two fics in a series, because quite honestly, it's two stories in one package (that is, half of it is pre-canon and half post-canon, so you know, could easily have two fics.) My writing hours will be devoted to this fic.

Now the actual progress. I have the first two chapters written (first is a prologue, so about half the length) and the third one is now 3/4s done thanks to a successful writing hour today. I also have two halfway written chapters that don't yet know their exact placement within the fic (somewhere in the early middle, but like, are they chapters 5 and 6 or 7 and 8, nobody knows).

Every overnight business trip or remote mission involved nightly cuddling these days. There weren't very many of them, as most of Doctor Robotnik's work could be done remotely or the mandatory meetings and frankly pointless presentations were held at the Virginia headquarters, but every now and then travel was a necessary evil.

What had changed between the last trip and the current one was that Stone had found himself holding the doctor in a different regard. As in, he now had a massive, soul consuming, heart palpitations inducing crush on the man, and that was terrifying.

As he dragged their luggage in, he forced himself to remember the doctor's words from the very first time they had this arrangement: purely platonic. Non-intimate.

While the focus had been on Stone keeping his hands to himself and his pants untented, surely that included romantic notions too.
