Okay since no one I know can agree if Gale wears Purple or blue, it’s clearly an ultramarine. Which is something that often appears more blue, until you mix it with white and realize it’s more purple (most versions of Ultramarine are purple-ish, but there are exceptions).

Finally finished this bad boy, I’ll post a better pic at a later date.

It’s for an ‘Evoking Emotions’ assignment and my chosen emotion to evoke was comfort/intimacy, featuring a wall taken directly from my bed room lmao, old art and all.

Materials used are:

- Liquitex basics acrylic paint (mainly napthol red, ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow, white, and burnt umber)

- Liquitex satin acrylic varnish

- mdf board

- generals charcoal pencils

- Golden Fluid Acrylic paint (pthalo blue-green undertone, this was used for the outlines)

- Liquitex Pro Heavy Body Acrylic (quinacridone magenta)

besides being totally yummerz, they're also just gorgeous-looking animals and pretty common sights in estuaries around here. i love the striking ruby accents on all the pointy bits and the rich coral blue limb segments combined with the pthalo green + ecru of the cephalothorax. they feel artfully designed. i feel like a lot of people take crustaceans for granted as being largely monochrome red but no human artist could color a crab with more pop and style than the humble blue crab.

generally i have a personal philosophy of picking very brightly colored favorite animals if it's a kind of critter i might see fairly often in my day to day— my fav bird is a cardinal, my fav butterfly is a monarch, etc— because that means it's way easier to notice when one happens to be near me, so i don't miss out on the joy of pointing at it and going, HEY, that's my favorite animal!!!

Oooh and the white around the jeans too, it does a great job making them pop out from the background :o I'm super curious about your process, if you have any wip photos? It looks like you did the same thing I do where I put down, like, a silhouette or under painting stuff first and then it creates like a subtle line art without having to make actual line art.

You didn't ask about what paints I used, but I think it's more than possible you're using the same ones? not the brand probably, but like, the title of color they all use. I use pthalo blue to shade pretty often, it looks like you figured that out :) I just pick up acrylics from whatever store I have accessible to me, which was hobby lobby at some point. I think the pink I used was an oil, I'd have to do some digging to get that one out.

I have made an important discovery: You can mix primary red and pthalo green to get some absolutely lovely shades of purple~

Adding more red makes it lighter and more brownish, and adding more green makes it a deeper, richer purple

Pthalo green is a favorite and really all dark greens, but I also adore pretty naturey grass/leaf greens, pale greens, emerald green, sage green, olive green... just. Green 💚 (although ironically I do NOT like the shade of green of the green heart emoji or the tumblr text green very much lol)

A few things at once! I am making my way through Teen Wolf little by little (just finished season 4), and I recently restarted watching Doctor Who at the beginning of Twelve's run (I had stopped after Eleven to mourn, as I have with every doctor thus far, then waited long enough that I got locked out of HBO Max and couldn't remember the password... but I found it!) I have an incredibly long "to watch" list and will likely start something new soon as well.

Coffee or tea:

I don't make a habit of drinking either because I don't care for tea and coffee messes with my heart (or it used to; it hasn't lately that I've noticed), but I really love the taste of coffee! Specifically super sickening sweetened coffee drinks that are probably just as much chocolate as they are coffee lmao.

Green or pink probably! Pthalo green, viridian, and brilliant-yellow green are beautiful. But a soft pink, classic crayola, or a fuschia are delightful as well. Though I say that and sure do have a lot of blues and oranges around me, too. Love a good terracota.

The fiber arts. They tempt me. Knitting and crochet look so interesting, but honestly so does learning how to spin fibers. Oh! And embroidery.
